I came across Forest Suites when I was browsing the net for a non-cheesy wedding chapel in the area. I started planning my big day remotely and sight unseen based on what I could see via their website. From the very first message that I sent to the wedding coordinator, Alesha, to our actual first visit to the Hotel a few weeks ago, I have been impressed. The staff at Forest Suites are prompt, courteous, and completely hospitable. During our stay just to check out the hotel pre-wedding, we were upgraded to a 2 bd suite, given a bottle of wine on our arrival, and various other perks. I am sure that some of this had to do with the fact that we had already booked our wedding with them, but the small things were above and beyond what I had expected. The location is lovely, away from the busy street and nicely tucked against the forest, yet right next to Heavenly Village and within a few minutes of everything you would come to SLT to see and do. The rooms are in need of a bit of TLC, thus my 4 star review, but I imagine with all the wet snow and heavy traffic during ski season that the rooms get worn down pretty quickly. I am definitely looking forward to having my wedding there in November, and will post more details on everything from the reception to the service to our stay in the 1200 sq ft Presidential Suite. As of right now, I would recommend this place for sure.

Forest Suites is situated directly behind Marriott Timberlodge, and has all the benefits of that fabulous location....shopping, shuttles, movies, gondola, and three minute walk to Harrah's casino, and restaurants....for a little bitty price!  (Which can be even smaller through hotels.com ) They also include a more than adequate lobby breakfast, a health club, and a pool and hot tub.   I had a one bedroom suite with full kitchen, and living room sofa pullout, which was a little dated, but perfectly comfortable for three people, and a really great value.

Ive stayed here on multiple occasions. This place is great. Great location. like a 3 minute walk to the casinos. the suites are huge. Its definitely not the nicest or newest place in Tahoe but it is great for what you pay.

I went to the forest with my fiance for a little get away. it was a last minute trip to Tahoe and they were great in accommodating us in what we needed, we went in between seasons so the rates weren't bad at all. The location was great it was within walking distance of the casinos and the heavenly village where there's a shopping center and a movie theater. The room was beautiful. We stayed in a one bedroom suite. The bed was huge and all of the sheets and comforter were extremely soft and comfortable. The room was equipped with a full kitchen we didn't use it but it was still very surprising to see I didn't expect for it to be so big. Overall we really enjoyed our the stay at the Forest Suites Resort.

I stayed at the Forest Suites after reading reviews on tripadvisor and yelp. This place was the perfect location (walking distance to the Heavenly lift, and all the restaurants, and movie theater), nice rooms (big living area, with a full kitchen), and great staff. With all that you receive at this hotel for this location, I can't imagine staying anywhere else. I was able to rent ski's at the hotel, which was a huge convenience, and by the end of the day when my body was to soar to use, the hot tub was the perfect answer. In summary, perfect place to stay with friends or with family!

Huge fan of this place. I stayed here with a few buddies and the setup was perfect. Can't beat the location (a somersault from the Heavenly gondola and casinos), the service is tremendous (extra blankets in seconds!), and the included breakfast rules (waffles!). Definitely will come back again.

Stayed at the Forest Suites this last weekend.  Despite being the busiest weekend of the year, the staff was extremely friendly, and the hotel never felt packed.  The hotel is in an amazing location, right next to the lift, all the shopping, and next to the Casino's.  The rooms were clean, large, and had a full kitchen.  This place would be great for family as well as stays with friends.  The price is more than right for what you get here, and the best part is once you arrive, you park your car and never have to drive it until you leave because the location is that amazing.

Could you pick a better location, a more accommodating staff, and rooms with a better value??? NOPE  This place was awesome.  The staff was really great.  I must admit i was very grouch based on the fact I had not SLEPT AT ALL, and may have come across a bit rude when I found out we could not early check in, but that was MY fault, not anyone Else's.  I wish I could remember every ones names, I think carla? carolina, and the manager greg?  I'm so bad with names!! anyways they were all AMAZING!!!  Anyways.  We get up and the front desk staff was very friendly, the weather was quite bad and they definitely were booked solid, and so we waited.  Because of the wait (until before check-in time still) they gave us an amazing room right by the hot tub (which was not SUPER hot) but it was sooooo cold outside I can't imagine it being able to stay crazy hot.  So the rooms are awesome.  We had our own kitchen which we definitely utilized.  I was nervous they wouldn't have pans and what not so we brought our own that we didn't' have to whip out cause yes they did have stuff in the rooms.  The couch pulls out and so next time we go up we wanna go in the summer and will definitely bring a couple with us to share the room.  Also the location is amazing.  So close to the little village with shops and galleries, movie theatre,  then the gondola is right by the hotel, and the casinos are like 100yards away.  So great!  Can't wait to go back :)

For the price-you can't beat Forest Suites Resort. It  has large one and two bedroom suites with kitchens, pool and jacuzzi and perfect if you come with your family. The rooms are kept clean.  Its location is central to everything in South Lake Tahoe and It is next to state line and across from Heavenly. We go in the winter and the summer because you can cross the street to snow ski in December or go for a hike in the summer.. The staff is so friendly and in the morning they have a good continental breakfast. We will stay here again

We arrived at the Forest Suites Resort around 6:00 pm and settled into the 2 bedroom rooms.  The hotel is very dirty and quite run down.  The bathroom tile is missing most of the grout.  The rugs are very, very dirty and stained.  It has only 3 glasses and very few dishes.  It is far from adequate for $300+ a nite
We will never stay here again.

I found this hotel on a whim b/c Hubs and I really wanted to get away this weekend for a short weekend trip. I found Forest Suites Resort through Kayak for a REALLY affordable price per night and was very surprised by all the good reviews here and on Kayak.com .

We got here on Friday early afternoon and it was impressive driving into this resort. The lobby's been remodeled so it looks very nice. The buildings are all older, all the rooms have been cosmetically remodeled but they are dated as others have said. The linens and ESPECIALLY the towels are all older (really they need to be replaced, even with cheap Walmart stuff, it'll still be better than what they've got now). I sometimes bring towels on trips with me but figured since this place seems pretty nice from the pictures and all that I wouldn't have to do that (wrong), so I'll be bringing towels for us the next time we come. For how little we paid for this room for 2 nights (Friday and Saturday nights) over Mother's day weekend 2009, this is a good deal.

They also provide a almost full breakfast in the breakfast room in the main lobby bldg which is really nice (I also look for hotels with at least a continental breakfast), it's more than continental so I like that. There are toasters for the English muffins, bagels, and thick Belgian waffles. There's also hard boiled egg (but cold, wish they boil them fresh and don't peel them, just let people peel for themselves so at least they'd be warm), cereal, juices out of a machine, coffee, tea, and hot chocolate (also out of a machine, but it was very yummy). Condiments were also very sufficient (peanut butter, jams, butter/margarine, syrup for the waffles, and cream cheese for the bagels). To finish things up there's fresh fruits (oranges, apples, bananas, and EVEN honeydews and cantaloupe (but the latter 2 maybe seasonal), etc.) so I was impressed. They also have coffee and oranges, apples, bananas in the lobby all day.

We've made special requests for more soaps, lotions, one more blanket (we get cold easily), and extra towels and they've been very responsive and quickly brought everything to us. The front desk people are also helpful and nice.

Overall, the location, the price (I think I did get a hot deal that might not happen again), the service, and the provisions (room, surroundings, facilities to include 2 swimming pool and 2 hot-tub/heated spas, and fitness room (still have to check that out) all make this place a great place to stay without breaking a budget. Since Forest Suites Resort is right behind 2 Marriott hotels (of different caliber) that's more than I want to pay, and it's very close to the Raley's so that's very convenient for cooking in, it is very centrally located, and also within walking distance to Harrah's and Harvey's for those who're into gaming and shows, etc. I think Forest Suites is about 3-4 stars far as a hotel in South Lake Tahoe is concerned and is reasonably priced without being pretentious like the chains like the Marriott hotels right nearby, but b/c it's so centrally located and surrounded by 4-5 star hotels, it also has to keep up with its facilities to compete against its neighbors, so that  means it's a great place to stay and I plan to stay here again with Hubs and might even bring other family members/relatives/friends! =)

I'll add pictures as I take them and post them up. I may update after I finish my stay here, since I'm writing this review in my hotel using the free wifi (another nice free service that I hope Forest Suites will always provide)!

This is place was the ideal location for my Heavenly ski trip. It was only a 1-2 minute walk to the Heavenly Gondala, and about 2 minutes to the casinos.  It was within my budget, and the rooms turned out to be very nice.  I can confidently recommend this resort to my friends and this will be where I stay from now one when I come to South Lake Tahoe.
The staff was very nice, and its the perfect place for families.

We stayed at the Forest Suites a couple of weekends ago and it was great!  Everyone there was really nice, and the rooms were nice and clean and comfortable... the rates were really reasonable for what you are getting.  We stayed in a one bedroom suite and it was like a little apartment, with living room and kitchen...really great when you have kids!!  It is really close to everything..free wifi...just a walk away from the Heavenly   village & gondola, and you can actually see them as they go up the mountain over the hotel.  The Lobby is Terrific!  Very nice and spacious and with a little lounge bar in the back you can have a drink and watch the game...
I would definitely stay here again and again!  The summer even more so since the property is very spacious and they have two pools and hot tubs...The location could not be better they are surrounded by everything..you can walk to grocery store and shopping and even the casinos!!
Thanks Forest Suites!! :O)

I purchased my room though hotels.com the pictures were really pretty and I paid $100.00 for a $200.00 dollar room on a 1 day sale.
So we show up thinking this room is going to be really nice. Well let me tell you something. Our $200.00 dollar room looked worse than a Motel 6! First of all the room smelt like, And in the picture I saw online there was a living room. Right? That's what Suite means. Well NO!  It was a really small room and only had a bed, that I didn't even want to sit on never mind sleep in!
So we called the front desk and asked if we could cancel and just pay some kind of cancelling fees. I was willing to even ask for just half back and go stay in Harrah's (which is where we always stay) and pay $30 more. So then they said they would upgrade us to a suite, and then asked us to pay an additional $40.00 !!
They upgraded us to a 2 bedroom suite, which still smelt moldy, the floor didn't look like the place even owned a vacuum. So we wore our flip flops the entire time there. The lock on our sliding glass door was broken. I opened our bedroom window and the curtain fell of the hinges!  Sure this room was a little better than the first one they gave me
Then they give a complementary breakfast... which included cold hard boiled eggs and bruised fruit. Oh.. and some day old tasting coffee.  YUMM.
do not stay here!!!

This place is overrated on yelp. The place can use a lot of updates esp for the prices we paid for a 2 bedroom suite. Granted it was a 2 br/2bath little condo with kitchen and dining table, the cleanliness in general can be taken several notches higher. I refused to use the elevator after the first time, small cramped and stinky!
The lobby is great wish it would have translated to the overall place. Carports for parking and continental breakfast included. The only positive for the place is location, literally you can hop into the gondola and be off. Close to all the business, lake and the casinos. Cant beat that!

I agree with all the reviews about this place needing a makeover. This place is so old it is at the point of unsafe we rode the elevator the first day and I would never step on that thing again. It's hard to believe it is legal. The windows in the room are so drafty that people walking by two floors down sound like they are in the room. The pluses are the location and it's pretty clean.

Awesome place to stay.  The front desk staff was great, breakfast choices for any person, and best of all, right at the gondola!  Free covered parking!!  The 1bedroom suite was perfect for 2 (or 4) and the kitchen has everything you need.  It was probably built in the 80's and hasn't really changed.  Clean, but a little dated.   I'll be back!

3.5 stars when you factor in service.

Great location (behind Heavenly Village and gondolas) if you want to skiing/snowboarding, restaurants, shopping and casinos. Suites are clean. Don't expect Ritz-Carlton amenities! But far better than Motel 6, Super 8 or National 9 quality. I'd definitely book again... unless you want a North Shore place (less commercial and more natural).

Towels & other soft goods (pillows, blankets, etc.) are a little thin, but I didn't pay for Egyptian or pima cotton. Hot tub looked inviting -- even if it was outside! I really liked the lobby. Bonus for free Wi-Fi and hot coffee throughout the day.

The staff -- from group sales to front desk to breakfast room -- is friendly. We also enjoyed meeting the facility team member who remodeled the meeting room we used; the space was new and ideal for our 20+ person group. My friends and I especially liked having a kitchen in the 2-bedroom suite. Plenty of parking space too. Relatively quiet quarters except for the two drunk guys that came home at 4 am!

We recently stayed at the Forest Suites Resort when in South Lake Tahoe attending a friend's wedding. We stayed in a two-bedroom suite. First of all, the location is fabulous, which is why we give it two stars. The room was okay, but definitely not what I expected for the price we paid. The floor was super sponge in areas, where there is obvious water damage. The bathtub in the master suite had water underneath a rubber mat that was glued to the tub itself. It felt like you were standing on a waterbed when taking a shower. The window in the second bedroom rattled every time some walked into the room, which was annoying since my 18 month old son was sleeping in there. My last issue came down to parking. When arriving back to the hotel after the wedding, which was late, there was absolutely no parking available. My husband and I circled every inch of the parking lot three times, before I went into the lobby. I was a little irritated, since we had a "parking permit", with no parking available. When I went into the lobby, I was greeted by three hotel staff, one of which offered to give me his parking spot. While I was happy to finally get a spot, I was a little put out, but none the less, I got a parking spot. All in all the staff was courteous, and the hotel was okay, but definitely did not meet my expectations for how much we paid per night.

Now stayed here twice and had a great experience both times. We were in a 2 bedroom suite the second time. Very spacious and was more updated than the 1 bedroom suite I stayed in a few years ago.  Will stay again!

This is a great place to stay!  It's close to the Heavenly Village and the casinos.  Both are in walking distance.  You can also drive to a nearby shopping complex where there is a Raley's, Starbucks, nail salon and fun shops.

We stayed in a 1 bedroom suite and it was very spacious!  I loved having a full kitchen, living room and dining room.  The bathroom was big too which was nice for our group of girls when we were getting ready.  Things are a bit outdated, but we didn't mind.

There was a king bed and a pull out bed in the couch...  We also brought a blow up mattress so we could sleep more people.

The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful!  AND the breakfast in the morning was great!

When splitting the room with a big group the price was great!

Wow what a great location we could walk everywhere we wanted to go including the lake close to gondola and if you gamble can get to casinos. Staff was so helpful and nice. We really like this place! I like the location, and the fact that they have kitchens so you can have your drinks and food when you want it. Not really state of the art decor but clean and comfortable for sure. The staff is helpful and friendly also. There are different buildings, some have been updated and others not at all! So ask about that when you call to book. Bonus: a very nice continental breakfast.

There are a lot of other reviews telling about this hotel pros. All good things I read about it happened to be true, for this price it's a one of the best hotels in the area. The only downside like many reviews point out here is all rooms are kind of worn out, but it was pretty minor for us, what was more important are good price, lot of space (we took studio), lot of helpful things inside a room, hotel's location, decent breakfast.

Me and my group of crazy friends stayed here for the 4th of July. We stayed in the 2 bedroom suite and it was great. Having the full kitchen really cut down on my gross spending up there. I could booze up, fuel up, and walk right through Harrah's parking lot to get back in the action. We paid $800 for 8 people and it worked out great. 2 girls had to share my king bed but I managed.

The place was great, the staff was great, the room was great, the location was great. Did I mention it was 2 guys and 5 girls? Did I mention that there is no way for me to have a bad time in Tahoe?

Too much sin up there not to have a blast.

I gave 4 stars because this place feels like home but better! It is right off the main strip near monteblue and literally 1 minute walk to the gondalas.Just amazing location. I just went this weekend so 11/13-11/14.   It was only $140 for 2 br/2 bath suite. Full kitchen including cups, silverware, pots, plans, coffee maker, etc. Comfy living room with couch, television, and 2 chairs. All the rooms have windows. The outside of the hotel is alil misleading because it looks alittle run down. However the lobby is pretty well maintained on the exterior. However the exterior doesnt do it justice because it is so nice and inviting in the rooms. The lobby was so BEAUTIFUL INSIDE!!!! Also, there is a continental breakfast inlcuding coffee, hot cocoa, various fruit juices, waffles, toast, fruit, bagels, cereal, and oatmeal. I enjoyed it a lot. And after breakfast I made myself some coffee and sat by the fireplace with my dad and boyfriend. It was so peaceful because we were the only ones there. This place might not be a 5star Hotel but it is wonderful. It is not like most hotels where there is just a large room with a bed in the center like at monteblue or Harris. It is way more sentimental and relaxing. I found this place actually very romantic

You can't beat Forest Suites for value!! A few steps from the Heavenly village / gondola, free wifi, outdoor community hot tub (real tiny), a kitchen in the spacious room. All for about $140 a night the week b4 Christmas.  Even a continental breakfast is included. Staff was very friendly and accommodating.

We stayed in a one bedroom suite but we could have easily invited another couple as there was a pull-out couch.  Heavenly is a wonderful ski resort (owned by Vail) and you cannot get near the base of most quality ski resorts for under $400 a night. Sure the rooms are a little dated but who cares - we were hear to ski.

If you must have something a little nicer, walk across the street to the Marriott's Timber Lodge At Lake Tahoe.

really 3.5, but cant quite call this a 4 star place overall.

Stayed here with the family and one of my daughter's friend over labor day.  We had the 2 BR, 2 BA suite.  Giving it a single rating doesnt really doesnt give a clear picture, so here it goes:

location:  5 stars, cant beat it

room size: 5 stars.  This suite could very comfortably sleep 6 or 7

parking: 5 stars.  Free, and not an issue for us even over Labor Day weekend

pool and hot tub: 4 stars

free breakfast: 3 stars

cleanliness of room: 3 stars

Condition of rooms: 2 stars.  While clean, these rooms seriously need to be updated.  Looks like last renovation must have been more than 10 years ago.  I was expecting a rotary telephone.  Carpets worn out.  bathrooms worn out, no dishwasher or toaster in kitchen, etc .  Windows are the classic single pane, aluminum windows that were used in the original construction (maybe 30 years ago?)

Hotel layout: 2 stars. These are built as seperate buildings surrounding a pool area.  If you dont like noise, you may have an issue here.  Annoying guests can bother the entire complex.  Didnt bother us too much as we were away from the pool and the patio area where some of the drunken cougarettes were lying in wait for their prey.  I pity anyone who was closer to their room though.

We stayed here for spring break in March, luckily we had Perfect weather!
These places are older but they are roomy and clean, we had a 1 bedroom unit.   The windows open, no screens but I am a big fan of fresh air!  The sofa bed is better than some, the closet in the bedroom was big.  We did not hear any noise from our neighbors but you could definately hear the people above us stomping around for a while each night, maybe they were making up the sofa bed.  The fan in the bathroom was noisy and I'm not sure it worked but not a big deal, I always travel with a scented candle and matches.  The shampoo, soap & lotion provided was fine, I saw other people complain about that, if you care about your shampoo you should bring your own.  I also travel with ear plugs, you never know when you will need them, my husband snores terribly loud!  We did not use the elevators, the stairs were easy for us, right by our room.
My one complaint is that one of the reasons I was interested in this place was the full kitchen, well, the appliances are all there but not the cookware or other items you would need to actually make a meal.  There were plates, glasses, silverware etc. but large bowls to serve anything and the pots and pans consisted of a pan big enough to fry one egg and a pot big enough to make a to make a small box of mac & cheese.  There was nothing provided to wash dishes such as a sponge or dish drying rack or kitchen towels.  It would work perfect for using the microwave and fridge so just know that.
The free breakfast was perfectly fine, boiled eggs, toast/bagels/waffles, cereal, fruit, juice, tea, terrible coffee.
Don't even bother trying to connect to the WiFi.
The location is excellent, right behind the Marriott and next to the shopping center with grocery, etc.  It was nice to park the car and not have to drive anywhere.  Just behind the property is a great park where you can sled or go for a great walk.
For a family of 3, our daughter is 9 this was a great place!

How can this place have an average of 4 stars!!!!

We stayed here one night which was supposed to be a 2 night stay. The place is run down. Carpets are very very old and dirty. Our room 517 was dismal. Quasar CRT TV in one room and Goldstar CRT in the other. Smelled very musty and funky walking in. Closets had a bad odor too so we just put our clothes draped over the chairs. The bedsite outlets didn't work. The view out the main window was of the places storage shed. Mounds of dirt, a bull doser, and garbage cans...lovely. Build a fence to hide this stuff people! The elevator is very very old and rickity, feels like it could break any minute.

The real trouble started in the evening. We didn't get much sleep. The walls are paper thin. Above us people were loud and it felt like thunder over our heads, and to the other side of us we could hear the tenants. I don't just mean muffled sounds we could hear exactly what they were saying.

When I complained to the front desk the next AM the girl was not phased. They must get this quite often.

We promply made reservations at the Aston Lakeland Village and could not be happier.

The Forest Suites Resort is just sad. It's in a prime location and it must get traffic, surely enough to update the rooms.

WEDDING VENDOR REVIEW

We came across this hotel as part of one website where hotels were giving us their bids on room deals for our wedding guests. When we came to visit, we were shocked at how fancy it looked, for the deal they gave us! Several motel/hotels chains down the street was only 10 bucks cheaper with disgusting rooms and barely any good amenities, geez. Then as our wedding planning progressed, we ran into some problems with our original reception location. In a panic, I asked Stacey, the manager, for help. She offered a small grassy area of the hotel that was used for weddings in the past. Best of all - the price was right, especially for having a wedding date like 9/10/11! Since our guests were already gonna stay here, we thought it'd be extremely convenient to have everything at the hotel (except for the ceremony). In the end, Stacey and her staff were absolutely amazing! We corresponded via e-mails, and it was so easy to get things done with them. They worked with other vendors (cake, rental, catering) without any problems. The other vendors told me it was a pleasure working with Stacey. Alesha, another lady who also worked with Stacey, was also great.

They gave us absolutely great deals on our honeymoon suite, and in the end, the guests told us they loved the rooms. They were big, the location was just perfect (after the wedding was finished, the majority of our guests walked over to a bar across the street and continued on with the party - no drinking and driving!), and Heavenly gondola is nearly within spitting distance. I would absolutely recommend this hotel to other people who want to have small, intimate wedding receptions. :)

The hallways smell funky (prob from wet floors during the winter), the floors are really creaky, the bed was too hard, the furniture needs updating, the shower didn't drain very well, the shower head is too low but the breakfast was fairly decent. They also didn't regulate quiet time very well. A party was going on in the pool past 10 pm and staff didn't come say something until close to 11pm. And all they said was "Ok guys we've gotten our first complaint, so you need to keep it down." Party continued in the pool for a while then moved to a room where we could still hear them. The party didn't stop until midnight.

My hubby and I stayed here for a weekend when we were in town for a wedding. We received an excellent rate for what we got~ very large suite, with plenty of room to spread out. Full kitchen, which helped us stay on budget. Large complimentary breakfast~ simple and satisfying. Pool and hot tub were very clean and enjoyable. The rooms are somewhat outdated, but very homey and comfortable and clean. I prefer the comforts of home when I am away, and I didn't feel like I was staying someplace that I couldn't set a glass down. The only con I can think of was that the walls are a bit thin, we woke up both mornings to our upstairs neighbors' lovemaking, which apparently begins promptly at 5am!!

Great service... I loved  that they had private beach access and many coupons to offer for around the area...... We got 1 bedroom suite but when we got there we got 2 bedroom suite due to not having one bed available .....

Great  location, walking distance from lift, shop and restaurants. Hotel interior is aged, but clean. My main problem is the Internet. Free wifi they offer throttled at 384Kpbs, but in reality I was not been able to get even that. Out of curiosity I paid $8 to get their "premium" internet, which supposed to give me speeds up 1.5Mpbs. The most I got is 1Mbps (measured with speedtest.net ).

I read the reviews before booking here. I knew it wasn't going to be updated, and that was ok with me...I was looking for a good location, a kitchen and a decent price.  This was the perfect fit for our family.

The room was outdated, and we could hear the people above us.  The room was enormous though (both the living area and the bedroom w/king bed) and the kitchen had everything you'd need - pots/pans/cups/plates/spoons/forks...etc.  We didn't spend too much time in the room except to eat and sleep so it worked for us.  Awesome location, we could walk everywhere with two kids (except for the beach...too much stuff to carry for us, but I'm sure it could be done easily for others without kids or who pack lightly to the beach).

I agree with another review here about the service - we had to leave the "maid clean our room now" sign on the door in order to get any attention for the room.  Also I had to ask about the beach only to find out they had free passes.

The pool and hot tub were a little dirty (not un-swimable by any means, maybe I'm being snotty here)...but we were there for the lake anyway so we only went in the pool once.

We didn't try the breakfast.

LOCK YOUR CAR!!! Our garmin was stolen, suction cup and all.  We got lazy after a long bike ride and forgot to lock the car door.  Lucky for us, that was the only thing in the car anyway other than carseats.  This was covered parking, and the sign did warn us, but we didn't listen. Lesson learned.

Just got back from a 2-night stay here -- we even stayed in the exact same room as last time!
This is a really great hotel. All the furniture was updated and new and clean, and the kitchen was great. The hotel is a 3-minute walk from the casinos and a 1-minute walk to the gondolas. The beds are super soft and comfy. Amazing.
They have free wi-fi AND a free computer in the lobby you can use. They brought a DVD player to our room for free and when my mom told the guy it was our second visit here, he gave her a complimentary bottle of wine, and said, "thanks for coming back!"
The breakfast is great, too.
I think it's time to hit the thesaurus now and find some better synonyms for "great" and "amazing."

If your looking for a cheap place to stay, with a kitchen, near the Heavenly Gondola... Forest Suites Resort wins hands down.

Don't get me wrong... the regular suite rooms are outdated, the rugs often have stains & the furniture have seen better days.  Its well noted on here.  I'm a neat freak & like things new.  While everything is old & outdated its always been super clean.  (I've stayed here at least 5 times now).

We stayed in their really nice suites once.  While they were updated & modern they were built cheaply and weren't well thought out.  For example... the fridge was a mini fridge (and not the biggest mini fridge either) yet there was a table with room for 8.

Overall I've always been pleased with my money.   You can't beat the walk to the gondola & the extra savings for having a kitchen (vs. having to go out for your meals).

We've stayed twice and you couldn't be in a better location than this for the price. It's reasonable and you are steps away from the Heavenly gondola. It's dated in terms of appliances, decor and countertops, but you're not paying for luxury here. It's also right across the street from the Raley's! There's also hot tubs that I saw ppl using. I love staying in South Lake, there's a lot to do and when you're steps away from everything, it's more relaxing!

A suite for $109 on a Wednesday night.

A sparkling pool heated to about 80 degrees with no one else swimming -- open until 10 p.m., but you can actually swim as late as you want if you're quiet!

Fluffy beds that fill you with a night-ful of the most gorgeous sleep you've had in a year and a corkscrew in the cupboard when you were sure you were going to have to just stare at that bottle of wine all night.

It's like a dream in a dream in dream. Ok, that's just one too many dreams (I'm looking at you Inception), but you get the idea.

We had our wedding at the Forest Suites Resort on April 28, 2012.  Alesha assisted us with all the details of our wedding and she was amazing.  Everything was perfect!  All of the staff were very professional and helpful all weekend. The chapel there was beautiful along with the Presidential Suite, that we were upgraded to.  All of my guests who stayed at the resort, loved their suites.  I heard nothing but compliments from my guests all weekend.  Perfect place to have a small, intimate wedding.

I enjoy this place. It has a great location, the staff is friendly, the suites are clean. My friends and I have been coming here for our Tahoe trip for a few years now.

The suites are not the newest or the fanciest, but it does the job well. We've never really had problems with anything in our rooms. The towels are a little thin and scratch, but I personally don't care.

Our favorite thing about this place is the location. It is just behind the Heavenly Village and gondolas, we never have problems checking in, parking, or with neighbors. Once we get here, we park and walk to the village, gondolas, casinos, and food. There is also a market (Raley's) and a Blockbuster next door if you need other stuff.

I had been in search all week prior to a family weekend getaway for a suitable hotel/ resort for my family and I to stay in while getting some R&R in Tahoe. I decided to call the rservations phone number to Forest Suites to get more of an insight of this place and to properly pick a fitting room for my family. The nightly rate was better priced than the Embassy Suites Resort I had originally set my mind on so I decided to book our stay here.

Jeremy the individual who took my call reserved my stay, however, I found him to be extremely rude. I had simple questions any mother would ask about a resort. My first question was, how are your suites setup? He snidely replied, the living room is setup like a normal living room. Are all living rooms created and set up the same I thought in my head? Then I asked, is your resort family friendly? He quickly responded in an arrogant manner as if I should know better than to ask such a question,  he said, " all of Lake Tahoe is family friendly." I personally do not consider casinos family friendly and there are bars and clubs in Lake Tahoe, was he suggesting that I can take my family to places like those. Hmmm? Really?
I called back after my conversation with him to speak to a manager in regards to his unprofessional behavior, I came to find out he was in fact the manager. Wow, I thought to myself, I cannot believe that someone in a leadership role would be as unfriendly as he was.

I arrived for check in an hour early, the resort was accommodating in letting me check in upon my arrival. The building my room was in was a little dated the elevator was extremely small and could have dated back to the 40s. Our double stroller could not fit through the door entrance to the the building or the elevator, I'm not sure if the building was wheel chair accessible. Our room was nice and a good size for a suite, it was more like an apartment with a kitchen. The kitchen provided a full size fridge, sink, oven/stove, cooking/ eating utensils and cleaning items. There was a television for the bedroom and livingroom, the picture quality was terrible. The room was clean and we were provided a rollaway bed promptly after I requested it. Housekeeping unfortunately skipped our room for cleaning the next day.I reported the incident to the front desk and all they said was that housekeeping was gone for the day. They called back a few minutes afterwards and offered to refund a certain amount of my nightly rate and to also have their maintenance tech. Vacuum, empty trash and attempt to make up our beds. I was appreciative of that because at least they attempted to make up what was done wrong.

Breakfast is horrible an hour before 10am. There are no seats, lack of selection of remaining breakfast items and no breathing room. I felt cluster-phobic.

The suite location is ideal. You are in the heavenly valley village, behind great shops, the famous Gondola ride, restaurants and a walk away from Mont Bleu, Harvey's etc. A grocery store is also just a block away. I felt very safe here.

Overall 2.5/5 stars due to the rude
Manager.

Over due review from my wedding in September. My fiancee at the time were looking for a venue that was not a cookie cutter set up. When coming to the Forest Suites we were greeted by a lovely coordinator named Alesha. We knew we already wanted a small intimate wedding so the chapel and the reception area was perfect. The bridal (Black Diamond) suite was amazing. It seemed like an apartment. Bigger than some that I have lived in. The staff was friendly and my guest suites were all close to each other. We used the pool area to have our rehearsal dinner. I could not have asked for more. The food was great, the brownies are still talked about, the wedding cake was amazing, and Alesha and crew did a phenomenal  job with the set up and making sure everything was on schedule. Alesha if you read this. Tell the cater I know people who are willing to buy that brownie recipe. Thanks for everything!

I've stayed here many times over many years.  I believe this was the last as there are several other places in the area that are more up-to-date.

The Good:
Location right at the state line. You can walk to casinos, restaurants, beach, groceries, and the gondola.
The suites are large with full kitchen.
The maid service kept the place clean, the pools were clean.

The Bad:
Rooms need to be redone.  Everything is old. Things in the room didn't work, were broken, or missing.  The glass on the slider door to the outside was so dirty you couldn't see through it (and the screen door didn't work).  You could hear every footstep from the people in the room above us.
Service from the staff was lousy.  My first hint should have been when I emailed a couple months prior to my stay with a question about rates and never got a reply.  On our first day we told them the drain in the shower was backing up but it never got fixed.  On check-in we never heard anything about amenities offered: pool towels, beach passes, free breakfast?
Speaking of breakfast the cereal was the only thing really edible.

We just went for the second time. The first time we brought our son and grandson and this time we brought my mother-in-law.  The rooms are perfectly set up, allowing everyone their own little cave - but still having a great gathering area in the middle.  The kitchen came in handy, and the free breakfast, wine and cheese social, hot chocolate hour, children's activities and so on - there's something for everybody.  Walking distance to the store, shops, casinos - can't be beat!  The rooms are a little dated, but really not bad...especially since we spent so little time in there. I would recommend to anyone. Super affordable when they run their specials.

I had a really comfortable stay here with my parents and my sister on our grand tour of the USA in May.

After some hard travelling and long drives in the car, I had chosen Forest Suites Resort for a touch of luxury. We were in a 2 bedroom suite, which had 2 large bedrooms with king beds and a big living room area and kitchen. We were able to chill out in our room and relax in a bit of space which was nice.

The staff at the front desk were very efficient, friendly and very helpful with local information ranging from booking our helicopter flight over the lake to advising us where the best free beach was.

The location couldn't have been better for the main downtown area near the casinos. It was a short walk to the Heavenly gondola and the nearby restaurants and shops. The casinos were 5 minutes away. My sister and I were able to walk back at midnight from the local cinema.Safeway was a short walk away to buy food

There was a computer with free internet access for guest use. A complementary continental breakfast was served every morning and I especially enjoyed the fruit on offer there. There's also a small gym for those need to pump that iron!

2 small black marks. Both outdoor hot tubs were broken and not fixed while we were there. Also, guests at this hotel were supposed to be able to access a private beach for free but when we were there, they couldn't get us a pass.

Otherwise a lovely well located resort with good service

Great location, but definitely in need of renovation. Mold in the bathrooms and showers (stayed in the 2br suite), and pillows had stains in them.  Kitchen soap dispenser was empth, and a light bulb out  in the living room area.

Location is great, only a block or two away from downtown Heavenly, the state line, grocery store, and all the casinos.

Free breakfast is good and runs until 9:30am.  This is a good place to spend the night, but not as great if you're planning to spend a lot of time in your hotel room.

Great Location.
Must stay in a room with a full kitchen, especially with the Raleys so close. You will save a lot of money cooking the food in your room.

Having a room pool side is key in the summer, the 600 building.

Fair warning the place is old, no AC, no garbage disposal or dishwasher. The elevators are old too, but the place has been there forever. A good reliable place to bring the family.

I had my wedding here on 4/20/13 and it was awesome! The service is great, the staff pleasant and the accommodations were comfortable.  All my guests had a blast! I had my wedding ceremony here and booked my pkg with the Presidential Suite (which is amazing) and then went over to Harrah's Buffet for dinner with guests. Everything went as planned and with ease. Alesha worked with me on what I wanted/needed vs what we didnt want. The flowers provided by the coordinator were very pretty. The pastor they contract worth is nice to work with a pleasant looking minister type. We had more guests show up than anticipated and the hotel worked with us and didn't complain or charge us extra. Knowing that we could only have 50 ppl in the chapel they allowed guests to stand at the entrance and back wall, luckily its an open area and small so even from the doorway you could see the ceremony. Everybody LOVED the location, extremely close to everything. Since we partied the most at Harrah's it was nice to have it within a block to avoid drunk driving, just had to watch out for drunk walkers. lol. I was able to use the wooded park across the way AND the Lake access for Bridal shots since everything was so close.  The nice bonus was the free breakfast. not just a continental. eggs, bacon, sausage, bagels, toast, cereal, juices, starbucks coffee and so on. Nice not to have to worry about catching breakfast, especially when u have young children.

Long review I know, but I am so glad I picked this resort to host my wedding. Thank you Forest Suites, Alesha, Veronica and the front desk staff.

Prior to wedding in 10/2012 - I visited the resort this past weekend to check it out, and was SO pleasantly surprised by the chapel and accomodations. It has very recently and currently still is getting a make over and many rooms have already been updated. I was shown the 600 building and happy that my guests will have comfortable nice suites. She showed us the Pres Suite we upgraded to for our wedding pkg, and wow! u had me at indoor jacuzzi!

Alesha the wedding coordinator is really easy and nice to work with. My goal is to have a simple yet beautiful wedding and I feel confident we'll be able to pull that off here. Its not your typical cheesy Tahoe chapel (no offense to others), its rustic with just enough touch of elegance.

It right in Heavenly Village (they actually just changed their name to Forest Suites Resort at Heavenly Village) and super close to Casinos, the Lake and everything u come to Tahoe for.  The next trip we take up there, we will book a room for sure.  We were told they are amist many changes and will be adding a hot breakfast vrey soon.

I booked my recent stay on the Hotels.com APP. I was told if I booked, I would receive a 20 percent discount. So, I paid in advance. I learned via an email that the 20 percent only applied to the first three days and not the Friday night. I was charged $95. for the first three nights, then a whopping $149 for Friday nite. If I had just gone to the Forest Suites website, the Friday night would have been about $105. Shame on you Hotels.com

Also, upon leavng the hotel, I was smacked with a $48. resort fee for a 'safe' which I never used--Forest Suites said I had agreed to this fee...if you go back to the Hotels.com booking, there is a vague statement about this fee and yet on the listing for the Hotels.com costs, there is a hotel service fee which sounds like it includes the 'resort fee'...underhanded...dirty dealing...you have just ruined your image.

...I shall NEVER book thru your organization...this is fraud HOTELS.COM . I will tell all my friends to NEVER book thru you.

PS- they also say they have a happy hour on Friday nights...which show a martini glass and highball glass...well, they only sell beer and wine, and no food...doesn't Happy Hour infer there will be appetizers...very disappointing...the only saving grace was that the staff was cheerful...

Sorry if this is long but I want to be thorough since many other reviews gave me mixed messages about this place. I then anticipated a really ugly, outdated room.  However, I was pleasantly surprised when I stepped inside.

Yes, it is like an apartment, but not in a bad way.   I think it's perfect for a family or friend get away.
I am basing my review on a 2 bedroom/2 bath suite.  Their were 5 of us. And yes, I can confirm the sofa bed is unfortunately uncomfortable, which is too bad. A bonus to that is the 2nd bedroom had a queen bed and a twin, plus they offer free cots on request.

The room does show some wear and tear, which is why I gave 4 stars but it was very clean and practical for our stay. The fully stocked kitchen and breakfast were a huge plus. Many reviews put down the breakfast, which seems silly since it is free food. If you want a cook to order breakfast then stay at another hotel for more money or go out and eat.
The breakfast is like an upgraded continental.  It included hard boiled eggs, waffles, toast, bagels, cereal, fruit, coffee, tea, and juice. I don't see what is bad about that plus they leave coffee and fruit out all day!
The lobby was very nice and there is a game room upstairs, and a ski rental shop inside.

The staff were all very accommodating, which overall made my stay here very pleasant. It's only a few feet further away than the other hotels are to everything you need and want and it is still nearly just as nice.  Plus, since it is behind the others you have a view of the mountain side instead of the main street.  The pool is in the center, which for my party crew, was perfect; however, there are many other room that do not face the pool side.

If I was traveling solo or as a couple, or just had a lot of money to throw around,  I can see how I'd prefer somewhere else but for my group and budget it was perfect and I would stay here again.

And a side note for all you hair lovers, the shampoo wasn't crappy at all and smelled really nice but it's a shampoo/conditioner combo.  Many hotels have crappy shampoos and soap and you never really know so I thought I'd add that!

A very good value hotel. Very good service but the rooms need a remodel. I had a spacious two bedroom with a full kitchen. Its an outstanding place for families to stay because of the price about $120. Free breakfast and happy hour everyday. If you don't mind the worn state of the rooms, its in a great location and well worth the price.

My friends and I loved our weekend stay at forest suites. The location was great and the room was clean. The only thing was our AC wasn't working so they had to put in a portable one, but it worked just fine. The breakfast was nice and I liked the free wine hour they had. Lots of little events for hotel guests to participate in while staying there. Nice hotel, will definitely stay there again when coming back to south lake.

This is an update:
Moving my review up a couple notches. Just received a call from the general manager of Forest Suites. Was very impressed that he was concerned enough to call and get my opinion first hand. The hotel itself is in a great location as it is near a shopping center and walking distance to Heavenly.

There is a big difference between the hotel rooms and suites. The suites are pretty sweet. They have a kitchen area, living room, bedroom and bathroom. The hotel room is a standard room with a tiny bathroom.

We had hotel room that had a broken closet door and bloody pillow. It was a little repulsive...

Staff is not very helpful, but they are always around and greet you with a smile. Kinda creepy =/  just kidding.

Overall, Forest Suites Resort is okay and could be better.

Great location, old rooms.  The room size is large and the setting is convenient.  The rooms are noisy with thin walls, single pane windows and hollow doors.  Our room had no direct access to an elevator and so we lugged our bags upstairs. The bathroom fan stopped working the first day.  Birthday parties and a family reunion went on right outside our window (facing the pool) on two days. The parking also got crowded some nights (we stayed 3).  Breakfast is included (you pay a resort fee), there is a movie, game area above the lobby but the games do cost money.  The rooms have full kitchens and seemed good for groups or younger travelers.  It seems set up for skiing.  We saw a bear one morning near the garbage cans.  You are very close to Heavenly and the gondola as well as the Marriott shops and Stateline.

Location and high quality service and reasonable prices make this place a winner.  We very much enjoyed our stay and know we will be back

This hotel is tuck away behind a couple of large hotels along the highway.  It is out of the way of the hustle and bustle along 50 but easily in walking distance to all the action.  It would be hard to pick a more useful location. We were able to do everything without getting into our car except when we went to the lake.

This is a quaint older hotel that is well decorated and a bit on the rustic side.  The lobby is spacious and very useful to us during our 2 night stay.  The hotel included a night morning breakfast and plenty of activities for the kids.  My kids did not want to leave and now want to go back there so the whole family enjoyed the stay.

The staff were very friendly and delivered outstanding customer service.  We were very delighted with the quality of service and even received a phone call from the manager asking how our stay was.  Pretty uncommon for us.

I wanted to give this a 5 star but unfortunately the place needed a little maintenance work.  Nothing major, mostly cosmetic but some may be put off by peeling paint or doors that are a bit sticky on opening and closing.  The interior of the rooms are a bit dated.  Still the place was clean and comfortable and so I have no problems recommending this place.

Nice accommodations clean and spacious for the price. Loved meeting Apollo the artist he was really kind and friendly.  So close to Heavenly it is a great location. They have a lot of activities for kids movie nights and smores but we only took part in the arts and crafts and I felt the lady running it was so rude to my kids and I. My kids are shy at first and she was angry that they did not say please and thank you every time she gave them something and my little one gets excited and she called her pushy because she wanted to spell her sisters name on a name tag (she is 4)!and referred to her by calling her pushy! As we were leaving I had my girls say thank you and then she says and what about mom! She is lucky I did not tell her what I really thought!  Overall the hotel was a great Value.

We stayed at Forest Suites recently and booked a queen hotel room. I am giving 2 stars because of the convenient location, price, and amenities. It's right by Heavenly Village and restaurants so a handy location if you don't feel like driving around and looking for parking. Our room was fairly quiet and it was off season, so the place wasn't very busy. Room was well equipped with microwave, coffee maker, fridge etc. (yes, I have stayed in hotels without these basic things and it's a real pet peeve when you are paying 100+ for a room and they don't even provide coffee).

The other reasons why I am giving 2 stars. Here's my rant:
-Annoying card and payment procedures. When we booked we paid the 1st night up front...this is normal and of course, totally expected. When we checked in they needed a card to input for the rest of the payment for the stay. We were told it wouldn't be deducted until we checked out. Again, all fine...but we might as well have paid there and then as they keep a hold on the money and you can't draw from it (something to consider if you're staying for a few nights and have a large bill). On the second day we decided we wanted to pay with another card so my boyfriend went to change it and they said it was fine. What they didn't tell us was that they still kept the hold on the first card, so the money was still not usable on it. They also held the same amount from the second card. This wasn't such a big deal; we were expecting to pay a certain amount, but what if someone went with the expectation of not paying until the end of the stay and needed the money in the meantime, or needed to change payment card? This was an annoying lack in communication. They wouldn't release the hold for the second night on either card until we checked out, then said it would take 3 days to credit back to the card that we didn't use to pay. Again, not such a huge deal, but it kind of messed up our day and we had to spend a couple hours sorting out the mess, and figuring out where the money went, which cut into our visit.
-We opted in for one of their perks, forfeiting a room cleaning for a free bottle of wine. Awesome! We were told they'd still replenish our basic supplies...towels...toilet roll etc...we came back to the room later in the day and hurray! Wine! No towels or toilet roll. We had to call the lobby for supplies. Again, not a huge deal, but i feel like i had to chase after something that was supposed to be sorted out already.
-Weather was cold and rainy so I used the room heater...it smelled like a burnt hair dryer. It was either freeze or deal with the smell. I opted for the smell, but only just.
-Bathroom fan was half broken and super rickety and loud.
-Went to warm up my hot chocolate and the dish from inside the microwave was missing. I wonder how often they actually check on the room fixtures and amenities! It can't be too frequently.
-Didn't care about dated decor...room was clean and tidy, but it had a kind of musty dusty smell....perhaps shampoo carpets and wash heavy curtains once in a while?

Overall our stay was a little uncomfortable, and a little too much hassle...we won't be back. There are nicer places to stay for the same price.

I have been staying at this hotel since 1979.  Even though the place has been aging we dealt with it because of its location.  We made reservations yesterday to come and spend the night ahead of a ski day on the 1st.  They did not tell us that there was a live concert across our room and when we complained they referred us to another hotel.  We had to move as the walls of the room were shaking from the music.  So we checked into one of their referrals after which I called to make sure that our credit card would not be charged.  They quoted me their cancellation policy and refused to issue a credit.  They lost a regular customer tonight and all my referrals.

Frequent traveler here.  Rooms are fine, smaller but that's typical for Tahoe.  Heater worked well which is the big concern here. Breakfast is great for hotels price range.  Hot egg and meat options.  Gym is big with free weights and machine.  I've only been here once so no history.  Best advantage, you can walk to heavenly village and the casinos. No parking which is great because parking there's expensive.  At the resort up to $25 a day.

We stayed in the two bedroom suite and it was wonderful! We got a great deal from Living Social and weren't sure how it would be, but it was perfect for us. We were 4 adults, but it would be great for families too. Full breakfast is included, very generous with the wine and cheese at 4 pm, and they have activities for kids on the weekends. Craig at the front desk was very knowledgeable about the area and sent us on some great hikes that were perfect for us. Taneka helped us find what we needed in town and sent us to a good pizza place for dinner, Base Camp Pizza. It's also a 3 minute walk to shopping and movies.

Need a getaway - go to this place!

Snowboarders, I have good news for you. Tram access is unbeatable from this place. You could probably count the steps from your room to the tram on one hand (ok that's exaggerating a little but it is close).

Non snowboarders, this resort is walking distance from the casinos, a couple different small shops and shopping centers, and other stuff that can definitely keep you entertained.

We have been staying at the Forest Suites for several years now.  Over time the property has pretty much stayed the same.  Its number one draw is the square footage for the money and the Location, which just can't be beat.  We most often stay in the 2 Bed/2 Bath unit, which is perfect for a family of 4 or 5.  The staff is always friendly.  The units are a bit worn in places, but clean.  The biggest issue we had during our last stay (Oct. 19-22) was that none of the windows have sheer curtains on them anymore.  The Living Room has a sliding door and when the heavy drape is open, anyone walking by can see in to your Unit.  Forest Suites needs to invest in replacing the sheer curtains that have come down over the years (units used to all have the sheers). On a scale of 1-10, the beds were about a 5.  Not great, but not horrible either. Although there are DVD players in the Living Room & "Master" Bedroom, the Televisions are old fashioned and aged.  If you are looking forward to watching Sunday Football, you might want to plan on going over to a Sports Bar.  There is tons of closet space thruout.  Having a full kitchen is really nice. It would be good if the Hotel would provide a Dish towel in the kitchen, as well as Salt & Pepper.   We walked over to Safeway (2 min. walk) one night and bought food to prepare at the Hotel.  Another really good offering from the Hotel is their full breakfast in the morning.  They offer pretty much everything in a nice dining room off of the Lobby.  They warn that breakfast is crowded after 8:00 am and they were not lying.  It was crowded.  But the staff does an excellent job keeping everything clean and all the food hot & replenished.  They even serve Starbucks ! Overall , this is a property that we will continue to visit.  It remains a relative value for a Family who wants to be able to spread out, be comfortable and in a great location.  (Next time though we will bring our own Soap.  The soap provided is almost as bad as lye soap.
Don't know about the shampoo, I was afraid to try it)

I Recently returned from a stay this past weekend with my two children. I used the living social deal for a 2 room suite but decided to stay an extra eve. so my kids could do more snow activities. The 2nd night was reduced as a courtesy but not inexpensive like the social deal. Pros: Friendly & prompt service, designated covered carport, close to heavenly village & conveniences, good variety hot/ cold breakfast that is replenished so everyone enjoys it.They have wine & Cheese hour & extra kid activities on Sat.  Housekeeping does wash dishes when they clean the suite but it would be nice to have a dish rack/ kit towels. The mattress/ pillows are good enough for me to stay asleep on.  The kitchen was small but adequate.  The living space is large and the bathrooms/ bedrooms are as well. The resort lobby is nice. The bartender Jacob was more helpful with local recommendations. Con: The buildings & rooms are old and though there is some updating, it does not feel like a clean place when it comes to floors & walls. The heating worked good but it is a bit noisy when it kicks on. The car was two floors down & the elevator is original/ small so taking the stairs was the better option for unloading, going out or loading back up.  The resort charges you for everything and they even charged $1 for a toothbrush that was the saddest cheapest thing I have ever seen. The Raleys right across the street sold a  better multi-pack for less so it worked out for me. The windows are thin but the biggest noise annoyance was the truck back up beeping at 7am for several minutes outside our bedroom windows. The concierge was friendly but it was a bit tacky to try and get me to take a tour at their upcoming time share hotel down the street.

Overall, If I get another good deal/ opportunity, I will stay at Forest Suites another time in the future.

We spent a week at the Forest Suites this past month on our annual snow-cation. This trip was booked about 3 months in advance, so we were pretty stoked about it. To make it even better, we were told that the resort was going through renovations which were to be completed by the time we got there.

Upon arrival, the main lobby area was very well-decorated. There are plush leather couches, a huge warm fireplace, computers for public use, and off to the side were the breakfast area and bar. Looking good so far.

Turns out the pool and hot tub are both outdoors. The pool was closed for the winter, and the hot tub, I was told, was more like a "lukewarm" tub.

We stayed in a 1 bedroom suite equipped with a full kitchen. As soon as we walked in, all I could think was that it was renovated with pieces from the 80's. Everything seemed clean, but pretty outdated. Nonetheless, it was still pretty much bang for the buck. The wifi was pretty good, and the cable channels were good enough for us (but then again, we don't watch much tv). The bedroom door opened into a nightstand, which made the room feel small. Bed was comfortable. There are laundry facilities and car ports for each building. Unfortunately for us, only 1 of the 2 washers were working, so we had to wait our turn. (There's also a folding table area, but we opted to fold in the comfort of our suite.) Since we were on the ground level, we could hear what the folks above us were doing all the time - stomping around, waking up at 5am, beds creaking - you name it. Cleaning service was average - since there was no dishwasher, the maids actually did the dishes. Some days they would forget to clean the coffee pot or forget a towel here or there. On our second day there, I killed a spider in the kitchen. One major bummer that I found was that there was no fireplace.

But you know what? Let's forget about the negatives. The pros? The heating was awesome. Considering the temps fell into the single digits during the nights, our suite was always warm and toasty. The hot water got hot really quick, which is definitely a plus. (Although, if you are any less than 5'5", you may have some trouble since the showerheads are quite low.) And the best reason for staying at the Forest Suites??? LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION. We were a hop, skip, and a jump away from Heavenly Village, the Gondola, and the shopping center. Literally just a two-minute walk, if that.

Yes, I was a little disappointed when we first saw the place. But considering we spent the majority of our time (1) on the mountain, (2) at the casinos, or (3) eating in the village, I would stay here again.

I'd actually give this place 2.5 stars. Think of an apartment building turned into a hotel. That's the feeling I thought when we walked in to our building #5. I'm puzzled at some of the reviews saying this place has been updated and is above the standard. Updated from what? For a couple hundred bucks, I was expecting and hoping for a little more. Don't judge the website pics for actual.

Avoid the elevator and take the stairs. The elevator is maybe 8 feet across and 4 feet wide. Definitely cannot accommodate wheelchair visitors or more than 2 people comfortably.

The rooms are okay. Nothing to jump up and down and brag to others about. I can see during the winter time it might be an okay play to stay since it's super close to Heavenly and the gondola is within walking distance, but I'd rather stay elsewhere.

The place looks like it's out of the 80's and seriously needs updating. The linoleum in the bathroom was coming up and when we first turned the water on in the bathroom, it started out a little brown. No bueno. It may just need a super deep clean and serious remodel. The shower head is built for short people. If someone was over 5'5", they would have to duck to get their hair wet.

The 2 bed suite is ok. The second bedroom didn't have a clock and the bed was semi uncomfortable. The living area is pretty basic, but comes with full kitchen, so that is helpful. The couch was also a pull out, but the mattress was so thin, I could feel the coils underneath.

Plus side: The "Saloon" serves a free continental breakfast until 10am. And that's a hard stop. They don't mess around. They start putting everything away at 9:55am. They served waffles (already pre cooked, but needed to be toasted), toast, cereal, hard boiled eggs, and various fruit options.

Parking is ok. They have carports underneath the building and lots of other open parking. We didn't seem to have a problem with that aspect. The pool and hot tub are also in the center of the complex. Best part - the place has a resident duck that pretty much lives by the pool.

Maybe there are other "updated" rooms, but I felt ours wasn't worth the price. If you do get a one or two bedroom and invite friends to stay on the pull out, be an awesome friend and don't! I'd rather sleep on my aerobed.

As soon as we arrived, I requested for an upgrade which I received without hesitation.  Very very nice and helpful staff.  Staff summarized quickly to us all the pricks and services.  I will go nowhere else next time when I go to Lake Tahoe.  Kitchen menu was awesome.  Rooms were very clean.  They have game room for kids which we used.  Last but not least, we had a choice of red or white wine, snack pack or movie pack for free.  Thank you for everything.

Couldn't be happier! We booked our wedding ceremony here, and stayed in the presidential suite. Everything about our visit was great. The staff was so nice and attentive. They had great activities all weekend long, which our kids loved. Our ceremony was wonderful and our suite was amazing. The furnishings were a bit outdated, but the rooms were huge. Plus, the location was perfect. Can't wait to go back!

I am giving this place 3stars along because of the location and the free WiFi. They are walking distance to the casinos and Heavenly Village.

The lobby is beautiful! And I thought that would be an indication of the rooms bot no.

We really did get what we paid for. I received a voucher for $99 each night for a two bedroom suite. The room was old and in dire need of a renovation. The bathroom for the master was small and the tub looks stained (I did not let my 6mo old take a bath only showered with me). The second bathroom had a shower so small you could barely fit and the sink was outside of the bathroom with no outlets!

The beds were harder then the floor.

The kitchen came pretty well stocked with items you would need for cooking.

We went and toured the Marriott hotel (5star) and found out Forest Suites bought all of their old furniture for their lobby and rooms.

We will not being staying here again; next visit we will be staying at the Marriott.

Everything that matters is perfect.

Comfy beds, easy check-in, ample parking, good hot breakfast, coffee is Starbucks (a step above the swill that most hotels in this price range give you), fridge in the room, nice complimentary social events (hot chocolate? wine and cheese? Sure!) Nice incentives for "skipping" your room during cleaning, though they'll still change out towels, nice setting in the trees.

Oh, and did I mention the easy walking distance to the Gondola and Heavenly Village?

Sure, the decor is dated, bathroom is small, TV is old-fashioned, but does anyone *actually* care about any of that stuff? If I can find this same rate, I'm staying here every goddamn time that I come up to South Lake Tahoe! Of course, now that I've told you all about it, they'll probably be booked solid. Alas...

A major disappointment in quality of the facility. We happened to get there when a storm was passing through and had to wait to check into our room.

Cheeky 70's "tree wood" dining furniture; 70's kitchen and bathroom fixtures; the place looks like it has been updated, nor consistently maintained.

Benign neglect would be a nice thing to say.  It is a discount tourist venue. I got the coupon for discounted room rates (Sun-Thurs), bring low expectations --so you won't get disappointed.

My husband, myself, and three young kids stayed here earlier this week. It was FANTASTIC! We stayed in a two-bedroom suite and I was amazed at how spacious it was. It was out-dated a bit, but didn't bother me. It kind of fit in with the rustic-woodsy feel of the area. It was clean. The location is BOMB! And the staff was super nice. You can see just how nice the suite we stayed in was on my Youtube video: youtu.be/HjkJpOhOviE?t=6… . (It's our family vlog, but I do a walk through of the suite from minutes 6:12 to 7:30. Also, I'm not trying to post this link for promotional purposes but just to give a look at our suite. If it seems inappropriate I'll take down the link.) I can't wait to go back!

Stay: 6/8/13 to 6/10/13 (2 Nights)
Rooms: 104 (1-BD Deluxe Suite) then 102 (Presidential Suite)

The Good
-Friendly staff albeit a little green and unknowledgeable at times.
-Ice cream social was fun & friendly.
-Good looking property and lobby, near alot of trees, close to everything.
-Spacious Suites
-Option to skip room service for a bottle of wine or other treat.

The "ehh"
-Room was fairly old and run down, dirty/sticky/wrinkled carpets, old but adequate fixtures, cabinets, tv, etc.
-Near to our room, some rock/concrete next to an accessible room ramp was falling apart and all over the ground...like someone was jack-hammering...amazing they don't fix these things...at least clean it up a little.

The Bad
-Woke up 1st morning to 15 rat/mice droppings all over kitchen counters and floors, perhaps more but we didn't want to spend our vacation counting rat poop. (When we came back that night, they decided to give us the presidential suite...albeit it was a Sunday night and everybody had cleared out so it wasn't hard for them. Pain in the ass to move our stuff and still think they should have credited the first night stay, which was a bust.)
-Very little parking, had to park far away from unit...even though it was not very busy and just before the season kicked off....can't imagine how bad it would be when packed!
-Bed (in 1-BD Deluxe Suite) was VERY uncomfortable, equal to the worst motel bed you've ever slept in....and this is coming from a 30-yr old that is not usually too picky about such things....I slept in tents on the ground all the time growing up! The bed in the presidential suite felt like the same bed but with a topper to ease the blow a little.
-Breakfast was low quality (prison eggs, awful coffee, difficult to cook waffles, just a weak toaster to pass them through.)
-Sprinklers in front of #104 stayed on for over two hours in the morning, causing huge puddles on the only path to our door....called maintenance.
-Door on Fridge in 1-BD Deluxe Suite was totally falling apart.

Family reunion in July '13 - great location with lots to do for oldsters and youngsters alike.
Walking distance to the casinos, Heavenly Village and major grocery store.  The breakfast room was a good way for us to all regroup in the mornings and the big lobby and pool outside of our rooms were nice meeting places for our rather large group.
Although old and dated, it was clean, convenient and well priced.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for two nights for my friend's wedding.  We were certainly impressed with the spacious rooms and the location of the hotel.  But we had two bad experiences here that are worth sharing. First, the iron in the room had dirt (or something?) on it that left big marks on my boyfriend's new dress shirt. Thank goodness he brought an extra because we were going to my friend's wedding rehearsal dinner!  Second, there was a mouse in our bathroom.  My boyfriend heard it in the trashcan the middle of the night and removed it.  I am grateful he was the one to discover it, because I would have been much more upset.

We told the staff about the mouse and the iron experiences. After an apology and some hesitation, they removed our resort fees for the weekend. $24 will not cover the shirt cost if it cannot be cleaned, nor would it have covered my unhappiness if I had been the one to find the mouse. I was disappointed that they did not do something else to make amends or remove more money.

We did our booking last minute while on the way to tahoe. It was the July 4 weekend. Place was clean , close to Gandola, bungee jumping and the mini golf . Could not have found a better place even with advance planning . Our boys too had a good time at the Game Center . The little details if marshmallows by the pool and daily activities added to family time. Shall look forward to being there again . Helpful staff too.

Stayed here for 2 nights during the snow season.  We had a 1 bedroom suite.  The building looks like an old apartment.  There is carport parking right outside the building which is convenient.  The property is older but well funcitioning.  It is very family friendly with daily activities.  They have smores by the fire place, movie night, and arts and crafts for the kids.  There is also happy hour for the adults.  Hot breakfast is included with the normal items.  Location is a big plus here.  It is close to Heavenly Village and all the shops and restaurants.  Walking distance to the casinos too.  I've seen specials occasionally for $99 for a 2 bedroom.  Keep an eye out!

We were looking forward to our stay as we had read several positive reviews. We were very disappointed. The room was not ready when we arrived at 3:45pm. We were told to comeback in an hour. The room was clean, but very shabby. We were supposed to have a balcony and did not. In addition, one of the reasons I booked this resort was because they had a "fully equipped" gym. Their "gym" was the poorest excuse of a gym I have ever seen. A few mix matched weights and the bike was like cranking up an old car. The hotel does have an agreement with an excellent gym, Elevated Fitness that can be used if you are staying at the Forest Suites Resort. The location was the best part of the hotel as it is right in the heart of the Heavenly Village.

Yelp review #700. Stayed in a suite here one night while on a ski bus trip from SF. The suites are a little old and not updated. The lobby is pretty nice. There's breakfast, which was decent with eggs, potatoes, bagels, Eggo waffles, fruit, juices, coffee, etc. I slept on a sofa. The TV was new and there was cable. I'd look into Forest Suites if I needed a place nearby Heavenly Village in South Lake Tahoe that wasn't too expensive. Oh, and the hot tub is really small and not impressive, but there is one.

This place is great for families! It was five of us, two adults and three kids and it was perfect! We got a deal on Travelzoo, $99.00 for a 2 bedroom suite, you can't beat that!
From the booking of the room to the actual check in, everything ran smoothly. The receptionist who booked our room for us was so nice and friendly, once we actually got there the front desk ladies were just as nice.

Pros:

The suite we got was spacious and cozy! The beds were comfy and there was a full kitchen, so we were able to make dinner in our room. Everything was clean and there was more than enough space for us all.

Free Breakfast for us all in the morning. They had a good selection, eggs, potatoes, bacon, eggo waffles, instant oatmeal, cereal, pastries, etc.

Free Parking!

Heavenly Village in walking distance of resort.

DVD player in the suite to play movies for the kids.

Cons:

The hallways need to be updated, very dark and cramped. There was also a funny smell in the hallways that bothered us all.

The breakfast is only served until 10 am.

Overall, our stay was great and we enjoyed ourselves! We would definitely come back!

My wife and I stayed here this past week on our honeymoon and we had Forest Suites chosen for us by Diamond Resorts, as part of a timeshare we attended in 2013.  They provided us three nights and we booked the fourth night on our own thru the Resort.

I read the reviews before coming and I think my experienced exceeded expectations.  The staff is friendly; the location is as good as it gets, and the one bedroom suite we stayed in was spacious and felt pretty homey.  Instead of having them clean the rooms each day they brought various gifts, which are nice to have (mostly snacks or wine).

It's not a five star fancy hotel, as compared to what Diamond Resorts showed us while we were there and went to another of their presentations (it got us an extra free night).  We were put in Forest Suites since they were doing renovations at their location, Tahoe Vacation Resorts.  So we looked at the one bedroom suites at Tahoe Vacation Resorts while on our presentation (which we said no again). I think Forest Suites is comparable in terms of space, and while the interior is a little more modernized at Tahoe Vacation Resorts and nicer, it doesn't beat the location of Forest Suites.  And my wife and I, if given the choice, would rather stay at Forest Suites instead because of location alone.  At Forest Suites, you are walking distance to everything and you probably won't even need to leave your car from the carport once you arrive (although during winter season if you don't run it in a few days, it probably will need a jump start because of the cold weather when you leave, as was our case).  You are next to the Village, The Gondola, The Casinos, Supermarkets, restaurants, etc.  All within a five minute walk or so.

They provide a decent breakfast and a good selection at that.  The main negatives can be corrected: the beds are almost like sleeping on carpeting - they are way too firm; the shower head and overall water flow is very weak.  Overall, our experience was good: the one bedroom suites are roomy, have a decent kitchen and fridge, the staff is friendly enough, and I like how they have covered carports for your car during the winter.  It's too bad we didn't really see any snow - it rained for two straight days and finally it snowed for about an hour at the very end of the storm, but not enough for any accumulations.  However, the ski resort got a ton of fresh snow so the conditions up there couldn't have been any better.

I give this place 5 stars. We actually got the deal from TravelZoo. It's 2-bedroom suite and kitchen for 6 people. $99 for Sunday - Thursday and $274  for two nights including Friday-Saturday. Up to 6 people. This also including breakfast.

So Price : if they don't get 5 stars, I don't know what to say

How about service??? Service is great. They are very very friendly. We arrived so early on Friday. They even check us in at 11AM!!!!! Usually they check people in at 3PM. They clean the room so well for us. Imagine 6 people stay together, how messy it will be. If you think you will be okay not to have cleaning service, they offer wine or snack!!!! - and yes!!!! Free wifi!!!

Service : 5 stars

Location : you can walk to everywhere! Casino, grocery store, restaurants, gondola, and BEACH!!!!! Also they offer free parking (others don't, such as marriott)

Location : 5 stars

Activities, they also offer wine tasting, movie night, kids activities..... That's extra 5 stars (they have pool and hit tubs, but it's under maintenance now (which is so fine, it's so cold at the time)

The only thing that you might say, ehhhh!! Is the hotel itself. It's not a new hotel, so don't expect anything premium.

All in all, this place is awesome. Even you use the coupon from Trazelzoo, they still treat you so welll. Totally recommend to try ;)

Our 1 bedroom didn't look like the pictures here-  sort of rundown.  It was clean enough and had all the needs of a studio apartment that you weren't going to spend much time in.  We were housed here on a Diamond Resorts timeshare deal, so don't even know what they would be charging.  That said, the price was right.

We stayed here over this last weekend, and we stayed in the basic hotel room. Nothing fancy, but a cozy mountain feel. Only down side was the shower which had a mind of its own, but overall, it was great. When spending a weekend in Tahoe, worrying about fine details of a hotel room are silly. Clean and simple. The location was great, walking distance to heavenly, casinos, restaurants. And the continental breakfast was one of the greatest. We will definitely be returning.

Great location that can't be beat for the price. Heavenly Village and the Gondola are a few steps away.  The two bedroom suite had plenty of space and well stocked. The room itself is dated but it works. WiFi is spotty. The pillows however were bricks (at least our room).  The bed linens also don't stay snug to the mattress, so you may find yourself on bare mattress at some point during the night.  I would still recommend this place for its location and price.

Location is prefect. It is right at the center of south Lake Tahoe city, next to shipping and eating plazas. The hotel staff is very nice. However the hotel needs renovation badly if you want claim it as 3 stars. I booked a 2 bedroom suite, the space is very good, but everything is old. The carpet is dirty and the floor makes noise. I have to say, it doesn't fit my clear definition. It may fits other people perfectly. It claims to accommodate 8 people and we have only 4. So, very comfortable space. Just want to point it out that I booked a month earlier, most hotels are already full. It was my best choice from price and space wise point of view except the picture on the web doesn't reflect the reality. It costed me $805 plus fees for 2 weekend nights in July. The bottom line is, it is a 2 star hotel with nice people.

Great location, horrible room!

I chose this hotel based on reviews and location. Somehow, I missed the reviews of the run-down rooms since the location was great! The bed was absolutely the worst part of the room--it was springs poking into back for the worst night sleep ever! Beyond that, it seemed as though the room needed an overhaul 20 years ago. I felt for the high price we paid for the night, it would be a great room. Looking back, I wish I would have paid a bit more for as Marriott at $400/night for a great room compared to close that amount for a gross room, A/C that didn't work and a horrible bed.

Great location, horrible hotel! Spend more and get a better experience!

Not the worse place I've stayed at for the cost but don't expect high end. Maintenance is not a priority, a lot of little plumbing issues, chips, cracks and old carpet. Bed was hard as were the pillows and considering that it gets cold the bedding was not appropriate. We were asked if we would "Go green" and sign off on housekeeping for a predetermined "gift" Chose the option and never received the gift. No big deal but keep in mind they charge a daily resort fee..ARG!!

They are cutting corners and it's very apparent. However you are within walking distance to a lot of eateries, stores and bars.
Pool towels were mysteriously non existent but the area was clean.

Would I return? Not if I can get a better deal somewhere else and my impression is they don't care and no effort is made to assure you do. Too bad they have a premium location, obviously decent amount of business and don't care to make it a winning property.

Last warning...I honestly think the elevator was a kitchen dumb waiter. Very sketchy ride!

I was waken up several times throughout the night because of the loud creeking caused by people walking around in the room above me. I couldn't get the shower to go more than luke-warm, and because there is no tub or border, water went all over the bathroom floor. Other than that, the room was spacious and it is located a walk away from the Tahoe village and Heavenly gondola ride.  The staff is also very friendly. Just bring ear plugs if you plan on staying here.

My fiance, brother and his girlfriend came here a few weeks ago for 2 nights. We got a LivingSocial deal for a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom suite. Overall we really liked this place. It's in a great location. Very close to restaurants, stores and Heavenly. We got a free bottle of wine in trade for housekeeping. We also were able to take advantage of free wine and cheese in the lobby which was awesome. They also have a pool table, fooseball table and Xbox gaming room. The beds were not the comfiest, but it's okay for 2 nights. The breakfast was pretty good for being buffet style. Not amazing, but pretty good. And free wifi!

The negatives I think were when we got the keys to our room and we finally got there, a lady JUST started cleaning our suite. Check in is at 4pm, we checked in a little after 4. It was a little annoying because we just drove a long way and wanted to put our stuff away and relax but we had to wait awhile for her to finish. She also kept asking me stuff in Spanish; I don't speak Spanish. Another annoying thing was the concierge that is "supposed to tell you what to do around here" was SUPER pushy to get us to see this stupid timeshare presentation. Like VERY pushy. I just wanted some info about Heavenly and we all got stuck listening to her talk and talk and talk. UGH!

But other than that, we all really enjoyed this place. Great prices. We will be coming back next year.

Location.. Location .. Location.. That is what gives it a 3 star rating.  I have stayed here a few times as it it right across the street from heavenly village.  The heavenly gondola goes right over the pool. They have a pretty good breakfast.  The above make this a pretty decent value.  Unfortunately.. The site was a serious dump prior to renovation.  The staff works really hard but the structure is horrible. yes, they have painted and brought in new furniture...they keep the grounds pretty good.  kids like the pools and hot tub.  The hallways are scary and dark. There is soft spots in floor that appear to be a rotting sub flooring.  Bottom line.. Good value if you want to be walking  distance to everything, breakfast provided, and you don't spend a lot of time in the room. If you want to be pampered in a room of luxury .. Spend more money elsewhere.

We just returned from another 4-night stay at Forest Suites Resorts, and I've decided that it's worthy of an upgrade.  They have made some changes in the two months that are a great improvement.  First, the concierge experience is significantly more pleasurable.  No more wasted time and hard-sales tactics; there's more of a focus on service rather than pitching timeshares.  Second, the wi-fi service is markedly better.  Last time I would get repeatedly disconnected and would have to sit in certain areas of the hotel room to get a good signal.  This time around, I had a solid connection regardless of where I was.  As an experiment, I tried uploading a couple HD videos to YouTube, and it handled the data stream without problem.  Third, breakfast was improved, with fresh fruit salad every morning and more healthful options such as yogurt and instant oatmeal.

We were in a two-bedroom suite this time, in the 600 building.  The suite is clean and spacious.  As mentioned in my earlier review, the furnishings are updated and the beds are comfortable.  This is an older hotel, but there are certain advantages that go along with older construction.  It is solidly built, unlike newer hotels with paper-thin walls.  We did not hear our next-door neighbors at all.  Yes, we did hear the guests above us a few times - I think they were a family of kangaroos wearing ski boots - but it wasn't terribly disturbing.  Despite the fact that the hotel was almost completely full during the busy President's Day week, the property was surprisingly quiet at night.  My kids were able to fall asleep at 8:30 without being disturbed by noise from other guests (not even the kangaroos above us).

The staff is exceptionally friendly and responsive.  We had a couple minor requests during our stay, and they were almost immediately met.  The bartender in the small lounge was cheerful and chatty and remembered my children and me when we returned day after day for the complimentary wine and cheese in the afternoon.  There are kid-friendly movies on some days of the week and marshamallow roasts at their fire pit on other days.

Sure, there are some quirks to this hotel.  The TV cabinet in the living room only opened to 90 degrees on each side, so you had to position yourself more or less directly in front of the TV if you wanted to watch it.  I still would like to have a dish drying rack in the kitchen.

This isn't a luxury hotel, with white-gloved doormen, evening turn-down service, a large lounge or fancy restaurant, or valet parking.  So why does it merit 5 stars in my book?  When I consider its location (walking distance to the Heavenly Gondola, casinos, Van Sickle Park, and even Lake Tahoe itself), cost, and amenties (particularly the full kitchen, which saves a lot of money on restaurant bills), it is difficult to find another hotel in SLT that offers the same convenience and value.  Just don't come here expecting a luxury hotel experience.  If that's what you seek, the nearby Marriott will accommodate your needs for nearly three times the cost of a stay at Forest Suites.

So, in summary we're quite happy with hotel, and we're looking forward to our next stay when we visit Lake Tahoe again.

Eh.
Stayed here for a timeshare presentation.
Upgraded from a room to a one bedroom suite before arriving. After talking to the kind guy at the front desk, he upgraded us to a two bedroom suite fo' free! So that was cool.
Opened the door and met with a whole mess of outdated everything. Bedrooms were ok, showers looked old, nothing fabulous. But that's fine. Not a big deal. Still riding my free upgrade high.
After our first day we realized that the sinks didn't drain. Not a slow drain. No drainage at all. Gross. The heaters were finicky, the pool/jacuzzi were closed for maintenance.
Plus side: you can pretty much walk anywhere. Amazing location.
Would have given three stars, but I seriously appreciated how nice everybody was at the front, this bumping it to four. The upgrade was nice too.
They just need to update some things and this place could be great.

Booked my wedding with them and was a little afraid based on the bad reviews but I absolutely loved it.  We stayed in the black Diamond suite it was clean and very comfortable. . The wedding ceremony was beautiful Alesha and Victoria were great in putting everything together I didn't have to stress about the big day and it turned out wonderful :)

Although the property is older in comparison to neighboring hotel chains, Forest Suites is well kept and met our needs.  Yes, they need updating, but just as long as the rooms/suites are clean, I'll come back.

Hot breakfast was included. Although the selection was not lavish, there's something for everybody. The breakfast definitely got our day started.  And the lady that managed the breakfast area was so pleasant.

Our two-bedroom suite was good.  Looks like a 2-br condo with a full kitchen (stove, microwave, sink, and refrigerator).

And...the location is really good. Plus, free wi-fi, and no parking fees.

The staff were very friendly and helpful.
The breakfast included daily was nice.

It's my first night here, these are my impressions thus far:

Booked our stay through Living Social, we were told we would receive a 2 bedroom 2 bath suite which sleeps 6, which sounded perfect as there were originally 5 of us going. As plans usually go, people backed out and ended up being just my girlfriend and I. And THANK GOD. I can't imagine this suite comfortably sleeping more than 2. It's a 1 bedroom 1 bathroom apartment albeit with a decent sized living room. Perhaps 3 of us could have slept on living room floor, or mayyyybe this tiny couch folds out I to a bed, but that's certainly not what we were expecting! We invited a couple friends out to meet us there, but after seeing the room we decided that would be a foolish mistake. I'm not sure who to dock stars from for this false advertising, if it's Living Social's fault I would hate to dock Forest Suites because other than that the place is pretty nice!

Receptionist was very helpful, told us they would be showing a movie that night with free popcorn and breakfast tomorrow morning will be served til 10am. I work nights so usually don't sleep until 10am, which means I'll probably miss that but nice that it's offered. Maybe they can save us some leftovers? We declined housekeeping in exchange for a free bottle of wine.

Room interior kind of looks like my grandma would have decorated it if she was still alive. Nice big HDTV but as far as I can tell it doesn't receive HD channels. Not that big of a deal I'm just nitpicking here.

Location seems amazing so far! Was able to walk to grocery store, went to Taqueria Jimenez nearby which was surprisingly really good, best horchata I've had in a minute! Got in late so have yet to see the lake but looks within walking distance. Harrah's and Harvey's casinos are 0.4 miles up the road, looking forward to getting drunk as a seagull and walkin over there tomorrow.

Hopefully have more to add tomorrow! Enjoying my stay so far, other than the false advertising bit but not currently a problem for the two of us!

Great location, but worst bed I've ever slept on.  You know the bed is bad when you chose to sleep on the sofa bed instead because that's more comfortable than the bed in the bedroom.  I would be back if they decided to replace their beds.

Location can't be beat.  It's within walking distance to everything on the stateline.

My family and I stayed at Forest Suites Resort this past weekend. Overall we had a good experience and WITH the GroupOn the price was right. I'm not sure what they normally charge but for $180 (after taxes and fees) for a 2 bedroom 2 bath suite for Saturday night they deserve 3.5-4 stars.

The resort is conveniently located toward the back of the Heavenly Village within walking distance of the Heavenly Gondola, many shops and restaurants and the casinos. The resort has a basic gym, outdoor pool (closed in the winter), hot tub and fire ring. Parking is limited but included in the resort fee. The highlight of there amenities are their daily activities and complimentary breakfast. The evening we were there they had a hot chocolate bar (that we unfortunately missed). Breakfast was surprisingly good and served until 10am. I say it was good because they went a little beyond tiny wrapped muffins and cereal. There were a variety of bagels, toasts and waffles, yogurt, cereals, fruit, eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes, juices and Starbucks coffee.

The resort lobby is nice but the complex is general is old. Our room was clean and decent. Bedrooms were a good size and the bed was comfy. The master bedroom had a king bed, tv and bathroom. The second room had a queen bed and full. The second bathroom had a shower. The top cover on our toilet had a huge crack but what does that really matter? The toilet works right? LOL. The hair dryer is only on the master bedroom bath. The kitchen was stocked and nice to have for storing and heating up food. The furniture in the living room was a little older but decent.

Service at the front desk was friendly and helpful. They always say you get what you pay for. If you don't mind an older complex and smaller rooms then fish for a deal and you'll be satisfied. If your looking for something a little more bigger, nicer, cleaner and slightly closer to the casinos the Marriott Timber Cove would be a better option. I've stayed at both and my husband and I agreed while we love the Marriott we would come back to the Forest Suites again unless we needed a little more space, were coming with a larger group and visiting for something other occasion than just a day of snowboarding.

The location of this hotel is so great. The gondola, heavenly village, and the casinos are all under 5 minutes away. I got a one bedroom suite, which I thought was very reasonable for the price. Everything was clean and cozy, which is just what I wanted.
The two reasons I had to detract one star were these: 1.) The mattress was incredibly hard. I like firm mattresses but even I couldn't sleep through the night the entire weekend I stayed here. 2.) The continental breakfast was pretty bad. It seemed as though everything was microwaved, which was a disappointment.
Otherwise, I loved this place and will definitely recommend it to others.

Stayed here for a 4 day weekend in Tahoe. I would say the best thing about this hotel is the location. It is in Heavenly Village and near all the attractions you could think of. (Gondola to Heavenly, restaurants, Casinos, shopping) And a very short drive to the lake.
The amenities could definitely use some updating especially the elevators! Wow, I refused to use it again once we got our luggage to the rooms because it is old and you have to pull this lever, I don't know it was pretty scary.
We stayed in a one bedroom suite which included a kitchen is decent for the price.  The rooms are spacious and I like the outdoorsy, Tahoe feel to the furniture. The bathrooms could use some updating as well. It's just an older building and you can't expect luxury living but it is definitely comfortable.
The complimentary breakfast is good! Eggs, potatoes, sausage, bacon, cereal, waffles, bagels, oatmeal...you can't beat it. And they serve Starbucks coffee which was really good.
The gym was mediocre, an old treadmill with an older sit down bike and a poor excuse of weights.  The car ports are nice so you can park your car in the port and there was ample parking.  Overall a decent stay for the price, perfect for families and I would stay here again if I were on a budget..

We just returned from a trip to Heavenly Ski Resort at Tahoe.  Prior to leaving, I found a few Groupon deals for hotels and resorts at South Lake Tahoe (both in Nevada and California).  On a hunch, I decided to go with Forest Suites Resort.  I am glad that I did!

I was completely unaware that Forest Suites was located at the Heavenly Village.  It is about a half-block away from Nevada.  We had planned to take the gondola 2.5 miles up the mountain to the Heavenly Mountain Resort, but I had no idea that the gondola is a short walk just behind Forest Suites.  In fact, the Heavenly gondola rises right above the hotel!

The rooms were very nice for the price. During previous visits, we had stayed at some hotels along Lake Tahoe Blvd.  This was just slightly more expensive but offered much more in terms of room and amenities.  We stayed in a two bedroom suite.  Our suite had two bedrooms, two full bathrooms, a living room, dining area and kitchen.  In one bedroom, we had a huge king sized bed (and a nice flat panel TV and media player).  In a second bedroom, we had a queen sized bed and an additional bed.  The kitchen was furnished with a stove, refrigerator, microwave and plenty of pots, pans, plates and eating items.  The living room had a leather couch with a pull out sofa bed and two leather chairs as well as a flat panel TV (with cable) and media center. It felt more like a furnished cabin or apartment than an inexpensive hotel.  We also had great views of mountain from our windows (until the snow began to obscure our views).

We were a short walking distance --  literally across a driveway -- from Heavenly Village.  Heavenly charges for parking, so we avoided that cost by simply leaving our car at Forest Suites and walking to the Village and gondola.  Note: Cars are given a parking permit, so this should be left on the dashboard while parked at Forest Suites.  There is also a shopping center across the street from Heavenly Village with a grocery store and restaurants.  We saved some money by purchasing food, soda and water at the Raley's across the street and walking it back to our suite.

There are also things to do within the resort.  We were given a schedule that included movie night selections and other activities.  We had a great time at the S'mores campfire.  We sat around a fire and made S'mores with the ingredients (Hershey bars, graham crackers, marshmallows and sticks) that were provided free-of-charge by a very nice attendant.  There is a nice lobby, restaurant/bar and even a game room upstairs with a couple of Xbox consoles (with games available for check out at the front desk).  There is a complimentary self-serve buffet breakfast offering eggs, sausage, bacon, toast, waffles, cereal, bagels, milk, OJ, grape juice, oatmeal, etc...  Breakfast is served between 6:30-10 AM, but we were told that it is better to go before 8 AM (to beat the crowds).  There was a large group of well-behaved youth from the U.K. staying at the resort, so we were able to get fed before they arrived.

On the last day, we were planning a trip up the mountain.  Checkout is at 10 or 11 AM, but we left early to beat the crowds of skiers and snowboarders up the mountain.  During checkout, I asked where I would need to park.  They allowed us to keep our vehicle parked there until we returned from the mountain.  That saved us from having to pay a parking fee at Heavenly Village.

All in all, we really enjoyed our stay at Forest Suites!  I am sure that there might be better hotels around Tahoe (at the Nevada casinos or elsewhere), but this resort seems to offer the most bang for the buck.  The staff was great and you just can't beat the location!  We plan to stay here during our next trip to Tahoe.
