I would NOT stay here again. We went up for New Years a few days ago. We got to the hotel close to 10pm at night with 5 of us. We were there for an hour, relaxing, drinking & hanging out when we received not 1 or 2 but 3 complaints and threatening to kick us out without a refund. We weren't too loud or doing anything obnoxious but we still received the phone calls and visits to our hotel door. How is it that I paid over $200 a night and get 3 complaints in 1 hour. The walls are super thin, the people that work there are rude and unhelpful and nobody seemed to care that we were there like most others, to ring in the New Year. Isn't that what they would want and expect? for people to come to their town since it's a tourist town, and drop some money to help their ailing economy? instead, they treated us like crap, wouldn't help us with transportation, information or anything really. The walls are super thin and the bathroom is small and sounds like a turbo jet is coming in for a landing. I was very close to checking us out of the hotel and going on the strip to pay even more but at least get better service. i will NEVER stay there again!

Apparently any small hotel (i.e., not part of a large chain) can now label itself a "Boutique Hotel."  If an overpriced, small, unclean room with outdated fixtures is your idea of "boutique" then this is the place for you.  There is nothing unique or charming about this "Inn."  We have stayed at Inn by the Lake ("IBTL") twice this season and after our latest visit will definitely not return.  We chose to try IBTL because we have a Snow Bomb discount card.  But even with the discount, we paid $125 for a room in the back of the second building with a "view" of the rear parking lot and a trailer park.  I'm starting to think that it is this hotel's policy to place guests with discounts in the worst possible rooms because we were placed in virtually the same room and location on our first visit.  During our latest visit we had to have the duvet replaced because it had what appeared to be blood stains on it.  When we received the "replacement" it was a wrinkled duvet (i.e., comforter) without a duvet cover.  Also, it took more than 30 minutes to receive the replacement duvet because there was only one person on staff working at 9 p.m.  To make matters worse, the bathroom floor was dingy and had a dark mystery stain on it (don't ask).  To be fair, the bi-level Jacuzzi is nice and it is convenient to have a balcony, even if it overlooks a trailer park.  For the price you can do a lot better and probably get a complimentary continental breakfast in the bargain.  That's right - you can't even get a free waffle at IBTL before you hit the slopes.   If you decide to stay here, don't forget the disinfecting wipes.

I stayed in this hotel a couple of times.  One time had a room facing the lake, another time facing the back.  Agreed that it's not much of a "boutique" type hotel, without any fancy features.  Yet it has all the facilities that most people need, and it's clean and spacious.  Even if you don't have a room facing the lake, but when you get outside, you can immediately see the deep blue color of the lake and the mountain, so it's kind of pleasant.  Besides, you can cross the street to walk on the trail along the beach.  I think for the price, which is not outrageous, it's better than those big casino hotels, which we try to stay away.

Not a bad place to stay at if you realize that you are really not that close to the lake.  You have to cross the busy road.  We were worried that the traffic noise would be too much, but it wasn't. The traffic dies down at night.  Staff friendly.

Wow what can I say. THERE IS NO BEACH, so if you think you're paying for one, choose another hotel. The staff claimed that they had not seen the beach lately but that the size of it depended on the amount of snow run off. It is a rock face and nothing else. The other resort beaches seem to be just fine with plenty of sand but not the one across the street from the Inn By The Lake.  The pool is 1/2 to 1/3 as big as it appears on the internet. We were 4 guests but until I complained they never left more than two sets of anything. Really, we had to keep calling for towels and wash clothes and cups. The keys need to be reset every single day - no kidding. They claimed it was because they reuse them. In four days we obtained at least 16 new keys. The door to our room did not close properly. We had to take extra care to pull it all the way shut. When something happened to the pipes and one night and we heard water running through the walls, they said they couldn't do anything to fix it because there were no "engineers" on shift until the morning. The walls are thin and one morning at about 7:30 a.m. two maids stood against our door and talked, the volume of their voices increasing as time pasted until after about 15 minutes, I asked them to please move on. This, when we had hung a Do Not Disturb sign outside our door. Also, one day, after hiking and biking we decided to go back to the hotel for a break, arriving after 3:30 p.m. and the maid was just getting started with our room. I got to witness what I suspected all along, that she vacuumed only the carpet where there was foot traffic. The reason there was sand around the dressers and bed for our entire stay was because she never vacuumed there. THIS IS NOT WHAT I THINK OF AS A STAY IN A RESORT.

Though the Inn by the lake touts itself as a boutique resort, I would not put it in that classification. It's more of a cute little place, slightly outdated, with a nice view of the lake.

My boyfriend and I headed to So. Lake Tahoe to celebrate Christmas, and this was one of the few hotels we could find that didn't require a three day stay over the holiday. The queen room was very small, it held the bed and requisite side tables and dresser with a TV, but didn't have room for any extras. It was clean, and had some surface updates, but we could tell it hadn't really had any renovations since the 70s. There was a balcony, but it was too cold to enjoy. And the walls were paper thin, we could hear everything, and I mean everything that went on in the rooms next to us. It sounded like they had a very Merry Christmas ;)

The bathroom was large and had some pealing wallpaper, but was clean, and that's what really counts.

We appreciated the light continental breakfast, and though I didn't use them, the Inn had an outdoor pool and hot tub and a well-equipped workout room.

This place was pretty good. It was like 90 bucks a night. We booked the hotel the night before. The hotel beds are lovely and new. Sheets were really clean, and bathroom was spotless. The bathroom was not as updated, but still okay for the money. The best thing about this place in the winter time is that there is an outdoor hot tub. Its amazing! We were sitting in it, and it started snowing. It was amazing. I would totally go back!

This boutique hotel is 'by the Lake'. It is not to be confused with 'on the Lake' which it is not. You are very close to the Lake, but it is not out your balcony door. If you are going to Tahoe to play in a hockey tournament like I did, then stay here. It's so close that you could walk to the rink. You probably won't want to walk, but you could if you did want to. It is visible from the main road (Hwy 50). There are many things for free including a continental like breakfast, gym with cardio machines, a large hot tub and a pool and of course, free wifi internet. I did not use it, but it looked like there was some kind of bike rental thing on the premises. All the rooms have a balcony or a patio. There is plenty of parking and very quiet.

The rooms are okay. They are a good size, but the seem kind of old. The bathroom needs some work and the tv is what you might consider putting in your bathroom.

If you are not here for a hockey tournament, you can probably find a more cost efficient choice.

The Inn claims to be a "boutique" hotel - I think not. The only pros to this hotel are A) It's across the street from the Lake B) Its in walking distance to Safeway C) There is plenty of parking D) its seems to be a fairly central location

We were in South Lake for a wedding and choose to stay at the Inn along with the rest of the wedding guests. From what I heard NO ONE slept a wink. We were in room 141 - it was the loudest hotel room I have ever stayed in. In fact it was so loud, I considered asking for my money back. I mean the point of paying for a hotel room, is partly to get a little shut eye. Right?

Oh and, we got a "Queen Room" with a Full Size bed!

For the price you could get a room at the Embassy Suites, Marriott etc.

My advice - Don't stay here unless you have to.

Our first stay at the Inn. The front desk lady was super nice, concerned about putting us on bottom floor since I am a female traveling alone with children, so she put us on 2nd floor, where you have to use key to get into the building, as well as the room. The hallways and elevators smelled fresh and clean, no mustiness anywhere. Thank goodness!  I was so pleasantly surprised at the neutral, clean looking decor and bed spreads! Bathrooms were not bad, but not impressive either, a little dated, but neat, clean and decent. Comfy bed, stainless steel refrigerator and microwave. Good, easy to work heater. Wonderful, clean, HUGE, bi-level hot tub, among beautiful tall pines.Very fair price. Yay, we love this place!__

We went there for our wedding anniversary. We make a reservation for 2 days. First we got a room, witch was pretty nice inside (nothing special same time). But at night we found out that we have a problem with heater (in October it is pretty cold). We try to reach administrator, but they say there is nobody  who may fixed for us tonight. Next they they offer us to move to other room, witch was similar with first one,but our view on a lake got even worse, because of many threes outside. In new room we got another problem, our shower ventilation was broken. ...
Breakfast was one of the most terrible that we ever experienced. Why? Because there was almost nothing to eat....

We had a great stay here. The staff is very friendly.  Big props for being dog friendly and not smelling like dogs! Our room had a microwave and mini fridge...seemed standard in all their rooms. Great double decker hot tub and good sized pool. We had a partial lake view that was nice and I liked being ground level for the most part. (You never know if you'll get noisy upstairs neighbors.) I thought it was a great location, not too close to the madness of the casinos but not too far. We walked across the way to our favorite Freshies for dinner. The bowling alley is right behind the Inn. And we found a new favorite, The Tudor Pub within walking distance as well. Beautiful sunset walks on the trail above the lake and a nice beach area just across the street from the Inn. Definitely would stay here again.

I spent three nights here this past Christmas weekend. Not sure if I got a holiday special or anything, but their rates were very good. A room with 2 queen-size beds went for $420 total for 3 nights, a great value considering this place is very close to Heavenly, has large rooms, comfortable beds, a fabulous two-tiered outdoor hot tub, and friendly service. More expensive than the Motel 6, for sure. But it was well worth it.

The hotel is very far from the main town...it's good if you want peace and quiet..but it'll get boring. It's a challenge to find a nearby resturant to eat at...or a place to go...or things to do. I'd rather pay extra for a better location..I ended up having to pay a lot more for cab rides to go to places since the free buses don't go pass this hotel.

I was especially disappointed with the rooms, they were very old and needed some major updating. The bathroom tiles were a greenish/yellow color so it made it look dirty. Our tiny balcony looked out to a trailer park, and that really threw me off.

What I did like was:

1. The jacuzzi
2. Staff was nice
3. The peacefulness

For the price...I would not recommend this hotel..I'd rather pay extra for the resorts closer to heavenly village or nicer rooms.

I see that many people wrote reviews about this hotel before me, so I will go ahead and just validate the most important points (summary):

1) Property is very clean.

2) Front Desk service was very friendly

3) Breakfast is included into our King Lake View room.

4) There is a fitness club + heated pool + jacuzzi.

5) Location is close to everything in South Lake Tahoe (walking distance to the Safeway supermarket), and is accross the main road from the lake itself.

6) High-speed wireless internet is available.

7) Huge room, if size matters to you.

1) Ain't no boutique: unless you've never ever visited a true boutique resort, no way this Inn can be called that way. Only the lobby is cool and recently updated. The actual rooms are kind of outdated, basic. Maximum 2 1/2 stars.

2) Smell: if you keep the window fully open for 40 minutes, the sticky 70's hotel-room smell will partially go away. Until you decide to close- then, the dark blue-green outdated carpets will reek again. If you intend to stay at this property, make sure to bring incense. If you are allergic to old carpets, don't stay here.

3) Cosiness: My lovely date and I expected that each suite at a "boutique hotel" in the Tahoe mountains has a wood-burning fireplace, as a mandatory amenity. Or at least an "artificial" gas-operated one...  Or in the worst case, a FAKE one (with the flames that are actually a fan blowing at stripes of cloth illuminated in orange color, with a mirror behind, and some plastic logs)... Nothing. Nada. Niente. So with outside temperatures in the low 40s, we are in a huge room with just small pieces of rather outdated furniture scattered around it. A 22" TV with an old-fashioned bubbly-looking tube feels really tiny for this huge room, and is about 26 feet away from my pillow (on which I rest my head while writing this). How am I supposed to watch? I need binoculars.

5) Very noisy AC / heating (like a tractor engine)... and is the ONLY heating option... with 42F temperature outside, we cannot sleep with the heater on... very disconcerting.

6) Bathroom is also in need of an update.

7) "by the lake" or "by the road"?. From the hotel's name, you'd think the hotel is right on the peaceful banks of Lake Tahoe. But in reality, the lake is visible- indeed... visible from behind a very busy road (the main street) with SUVs and pick-up trucks passing every 2 seconds. Also big trucks, semis... A lot of noise. Inside the 3rd floor King room, even with closed window, I can still hear every truck passing by.

8) WAY OVERPRICED for what you get... Seriously! We paid almost $200 (incl. taxes) here. For something that is NOT boutique... I think next time we would rather explore other options...

We did a Living Social deal this weekend.  I wasn't expecting much, just a clean room with good water pressure ( from Yelp reviews). However, what a lovely surprise.  Our room was big with a suite and two tv's. It also had a jacuzzi tub.  Which came in handy since the double hot tub was out of commission for the weekend. We also had a balcony with a beautiful view of the lake. Check in and out was easy.  There's a great pub, diner and fun bowling alley within walking distance.  I highly recommend this hotel.  If you got in the Living Social deal...you're going to have a great time!

We went for our wedding anniversary and liked this place.  It was quaint and kind of charming. :)  The price was very reasonable and we had a nice little room facing the lake.  The location is great! It's a 5 minute drive to the casinos, and there is a bowling alley and a diner onsite.  We went to both of those places(Bear Beach Cafe and Tahoe Bowl) and it added to the positive experience.  The condition of the hotel is a little run down, but not too bad. Our room was clean and that is the important thing.  The place could use some remodeling but for the price and location it suited us just fine.  The front desk service I have to say was stellar!  They were really nice and welcoming, greeted me by name and let us check in 4 hours early.  They thanked me graciously for coming too.We would go back again. Plus, it's pet friendly! Our puppy loved it.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for our anniversary in Dec. and I came back with friends for my birthday in Jan.

Despite the fact that it's a bit over priced and the name is decieving, it's pretty decent. I guess I was just expecting more, based on the website photos and how the staff talked of it on the phone.

I noticed someone made a list of pros and cons so I'm going to do my own:

-AMAZING hot tub. A two-tier [level] hot top in a very nice pool area is just perfect for relaxing. It's so nice in the snow, the hot tub just tops off the night before bed. =)

-The "great" rooms are pretty big, decent amount of room to move around in. I hate feeling cluttered and cramped in tiny hotel rooms. The "King Great Room" has ALOT of space and it was nice.

-Microwave and mini-fridge. I know it's pretty standard these days but still, it's definitely a convenience.

-Balcony with chairs. Although it's nearly 0 right now, the little balconies are nice and give you some room to step out and breath the fresh Tahoe air. Very nice little addition. =)

-Comfy beds. The beds were nice, not too soft but not too firm. I got a decent nights sleep the whole time.

-Location. The hotel is located very close [within walking distance] to many stores, restaurants, fun activities, etc. There's a bowling alley right behind it and they have a "Blue Dog Pizza" which I definitely recommend trying! Very good and close so you can bring it back to your room.

-Friendly staff. The staff [front desk, maintenance, maids] were all very nice. The front desk staff was helpful in choosing the best room for our needs as well as suggestions for some fun things to check out in the area.

-The website and name are a bit deceiving. Yes, the name is Inn "by" The Lake but that gave me the impression that we were right on the lakeside with a perfect view. It's actually across the street and behind some trees so your view is not as expected, however the view is nice if there's a lot of snow.

-The rooms are out-dated and not too amazing. All the furniture is old and ugly and the TV is nothing to brag about. TVs do not have input for game systems so if you bring yours you will need an AV coaxial adapter.

-The laundry room/ice machine is only on the first floor in our building, which makes it very inconvenient from out 3rd flood room.

-The price is a bit high for the quality. Be careful in what room you choose and the time of year because in the prime seasons the prices raise quite a bit. [For one bed I recommend the "King Great Room" or "Junior Suite" due to the spaciousness. If you're on a strict budget then the "Single Queen" is the cheapest, but lowest in quality. For two bed I recommend the  "Double Queen Lake View".]

-Lame breakfast. With the price we payed and all the hype about this place online, [wine delivered to your room, sauna, luxury rooms blah blah] I would figure they had a really nice breakfast offered, but sadly I'm wrong. Just plan bagels, coffee and a banana or two are set out on a table for a first come first serve breakfast.

All in all, I like this place and I plan to stay here again but I definitely recommend only staying here during the winter value season, the prices are better and the view is much nice when there is snow.

Also, something that you should try [we did this for my birthday to save some money] is stay at a discount hotel [Travel Inn was very cheap] for most of your trip then for the last day or two stay in this hotel to spoil yourself and relax. =)

our room has an amazing view of the lake from our private balcony. our suite also had a pull out couch, arm chair, two tables, two tvs, a closet, tub/shower, coffee maker, fridge, microwave and a very comfortable king size bed. staff was very friendly and helpful. the spa and pool were closed for repairs but they had a nice fitness center and free bicycles you can borrow for the day.

I've stayed here twice and been really pleased both times.  The rooms are large and clean - not the newest or the shiniest but definitely comfortable.  I have a massive phobia of unclean hotel and motel rooms so if I felt comfortable, I think most people will.

The staff at the front desk were very friendly and accomodating both while we were making our reservation over the phone and checking out a day early.  Even though I gave pretty late notice that we weren't staying the second night (due to the incoming storm)  they still offered to refund half of the next night's cost, apologizing that they couldn't refund the whole thing.  I also got a great deal ($136, $111)on a holiday weekend suite when booking over the phone - way better than the internet rate!

My favorite thing about the place aside from it's lakeside location and amazing view (if you get a junior suite facing the lake) is the large 2-tiered hot tub!  it's so great after a day of snowboarding and there's plenty of room - I've had great chats with other visitors both times there.

The junior suite had a king sized bed and a queen sleeper sofa.  It's well located and just an all-around good place to stay for the weekend.

Love this place!!! The staff is friendly and very helpful, the room is big with great views, LOVE the double decker hot tub!!! Lots of fun things to do so close to the Inn. Great place to stay! The rooms are decent size (we had a room with 2 queen beds) and we enjoyed the balcony! We had a room with a lake view, and enjoyed it since it was not much more $$ than the standard rooms.

The beds were comfy. The room didnt look/feel dirty. Bathroom and shower were nice.

The HOT TUB is awesome. 20 person capacity. Definitely recommend sitting in the hot tub while it's snowing!

The only bad thing about this place is that they don't do breakfast. There is a cafe restaurant right next door that they will send you to, but no discount is given (at least, we dint receive one).

Like one of the other reviewers said, this place is across the street (highway) from the lake, and NOT directly on the lake. Didn't bother us because we were here to snowboard.

Other pluses are that there is a Safeway a few blocks down the street, as well as CVS.

Would definitely go back to this hotel.

We recently stayed here while our son was getting married at a nearby lake. We started out in a room with one queen bed. Great room. Great bathroom. Room for your stuff and great shower. Then we moved to a room with two queen beds when our younger son would be joining us after the wedding. This meant a move to another building. Not as well kept up. Older maybe? No room for anything in the bathroom and the shower was kind of pathetic. But the kicker was the bathroom faucet. The handle looked like it was meant for a kitchen faucet. It stuck up so high that you were in danger of putting out your eye when you bent over to to wash your face or brush your teeth!!  The beds were very comfortable in both rooms. Decent A/C.
The grounds were nice. The attached restaurant was good. Great breakfasts anyway. That's all we had there. Good service and good food.
I would have given in 4 stars if we hadn't switched rooms.

Inn By The Lake was a real find.  The hotel offers an event center, perfect for weddings, retreats, etc.  In the Spring/Summer months there is a lovely outdoor lawn area, perfect for socializing or just relaxing.  The views are great - famous Lake Tahoe & a lovely wooded campground just across the streets.  Great spa, pool and fitness center too.  The staff were warm and friendly.  Like to bowl?  Just a stones throw away, the Inn provides great entertainment at Tahoe Bowl.  Best pizza ever.  All this is reasonably priced and close to Heavenly Ski Resort,  Casinos and shops.  Great Value, Great Place!

We have been staying at this hotel for years because the price is right. The staff has always been helpful, professional & friendly. The Hotel, however, is definitely in need of a face lift. The heating/cooling system seems outdated & struggles to keep up. The spa jets were non-functional so it was like sitting in a hot tub of water.  The rooms are good sized & comfortable, they just look old.

The Staff at the Inn are fabulous! We were there for a girlfriends birthday and were pleasantly surprised with the Inn. The prices were reasonable and the rooms were spacious and clean. Nothing fancy but we were only there to sleep~
They should consider having a simple breakfast available for guests though, they have a nice size club house that would be perfect.
Next  time I'm in Tahoe we will be staying here~and I plan on using that hot tub!

I'm not a huge fan of 1-day trips to Tahoe to snowboard - it's just so exhausting! My boyfriend and I stayed here for a last minute snowboarding trip to Lake Tahoe. I figured we both needed a nice break to get away.

I got a pretty good deal online for a last minute room. Finding a discount code also helped with lowering the price a bit. After staying at a few rundown, cheap places at South Lake Tahoe, I was not going to stay in another one of those. I'll pay an extra buck to avoid the stink.

The facility isn't brand new, but it worked. The people that worked at the front desk were friendly and quick. The room had a heater, and thank goodness for that, to keep us nice and toasty from the freezing cold outside. The room had a nice Serta mattress that was really comfy. We got a standard queen room, which included a mini fridge, microwave, small TV, and 2 white robes! I've never gotten a robe at a hotel before, so I was very excited about that.

The location of the hotel is right across from the lake. I'm sure the people with rooms facing the lake got a nice view. As for us, we got a pleasant view of our car in the parking lot.

It's a very comfortable, and I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants a basic, clean place to stay in South Lake Tahoe.

The best part was the 20 minute drive to the ski resort!

pros: very clean rooms ( seriously important to me!), a year round hot tub, darn good location.

cons: harsh cleaning smell in lobby and hallways, paper thin walls, outdated hotel, barking dogs, view of the lake was also a view of the busy road. Our neighbors for 3 nights had a baby and toddler and we could hear EVERYthing so we were kept up then woken up each day by a crying baby. Our 3 year old and I would wake to the noise. UGH. When I complained the staff was very nice about it -but would only offer a 10% discount on our stay. My fault really as I wasn't pushy about it at that point because we were on our way out.

Good choice for a recent four night stay in the Lake Tahoe area.

This is not a "boutique hotel" but it is modern and clean yet leans to the basic side.  Definitely a much better choice than the inexpensive chains out there.  Our room was on the top floor, in the back building so it was superbly quiet.  Room had new carpeting and modern bedding.  Mattress and pillows were so comfortable...had the best nights of sleep ever! (And I'm picky with mattresses/pillows.)  There was also a balcony but it, unfortunately, looked out over a trailer park. :/

Bathroom was on the newer side, good lighting, good shower pressure.  (Side note, epoxy was visible on the tub and switch plate was falling off the wall.  Annoying yet easily fixed.)  No issues with room temperature.

Hallway had newer carpet, light wood paneled walls and nice lighting.  Never had to deal with staff other than check in/check out and they were super friendly and helpful at that time.

There is a fun looking double level hot tub and pool which was open although I didn't personally use it.

Based on the other options I saw in the area, this was a great choice.  Seemed everything else was rundown, shoddy and/or over priced.  The Inn by the Lake (across the street from the lake) was a very peaceful and relaxing place to stay at a very good price.  (Offering a breakfast would have made it even better.)

The Inn by the Lake fulfills it's purpose just fine. My companion and I stayed for four nights and had no complaints. The Inn is not a 4 or 5 star establishment and it is a bit more expensive than it should be. I put the Inn by the Lake at 3.5 stars. Other reviewers have had issues with smells, the rooms being outdated or other really silly complaints. I can assure you these are all silly complaints. Sure the Inn is not " hip and modern", it is motel/hotel that gives you a comfortable place to sleep. The Inn really does have a few really nice advantages, as follows;

1) Super comfortable bed, probably the most comfortable bed I have slept on in a hotel.
2) 50 stations on the old tv- small tube tv, but still 50 stations!! Awesome!
3) Microwave and mini fridge in the room
4) MacDuffs Pub/restaurant 2 blocks away
5) Bowling alley right next door
6) Room to lock up your ski's and boards.

My company and I were comfortable, well stocked and well pleased with our get away.

We stayed here for our wedding weekend and had our reception in the event center.  I have to say everything was fantastic!  Our room was by the pool and was a 1 bedroom suite.  It was amazing, it had an amazing view of the lake, a living room, full kitchen, bedroom and GIANT bathroom.  The bathroom had a HUGE jacuzzi tub, which we as newlyweds took advantage of!  It was almost like an apartment.  The ONLY negative is the construction that is going on, Friday evening and Sunday night were noisy and traffic was a pain.  But we know it wont last forever.  The pool and hot tubs outside and neat too, the trees all around and beautiful and the weather was great!

The event center is something else.  It was perfect for our wedding!  Yes, it is a little awkward if you have a large group like us,  Eating and cake were in one large room and dancing and the DJ was in the lake view room.  But, it worked and we had the entire event center for the whole day!  We were able to get in there when we wanted to and decorate, the vendors had no trouble setting up when needed, the chairs and table are great quality!  No folding chairs here.  They have a big fridge on site so we could chill the cider and champagne we brought, they suggested and set up renting a dance floor since it is all carpeted.  Great place for a wedding reception!

We have a connection here and plan to come back for our anniversary to room 340 every year!

First of all this place is not a boutique hotel. It is comfortable, but not a boutique. The staff is absolutely wonderful - extremely friendly and knowledgeable about restaurants and ski/activities in the area. We stayed in the pool building in the back and unless you are coming with alot of people, which warrants a bigger suite in the lake building, I would say save your money and stay in the pool building. The lake building is across the street from the lake and you probably won't have a spectacular view anyway if you are not in one of the few rooms in the front.

The room was pretty hot and we slept with the sliding door open all night and the heat off. The room was very clean. Definitely felt safe and secure here.

Really nice that they have a restaurant on the property, but would be great if a breakfast deal was included. They do rent snowshoes for free in the winter and we had fun walking around the lake in them for a bit.

The main reason we chose this place was for the sauna, hot tub, pool, and work out room. They are great facilities, but while we were here they were being miss-used by children and teenagers and it was less than relaxing. I do have to say though, although this was a disappointment, I told the front desk and left a note in the comment card and the hotel manager contacted me personally to say he would be addressing my issue and was taking my concern seriously. Very thankful for the great customer service.

We reserved our hotel planning a last minute trip. It's a good location close distance to lake and casinos. The rooms are just an average of a motel 6 nothing exciting or to look forward to coming back to your room. Tv in the room is so small with only a few channels.

The price for the room is so not worth it. My son burned his arm in the sauna room, walked right in and burned his arm. After spending the night in the ER was not my way of vacationing.

Totally cool, hassle-free place from which to explore the area.

Really good location (lovely views of the lake, and only a 2 minute drive to the village - or you can take one of their FREE bikes for a ride), clean and spacious rooms, free tea and coffee, very friendly staff, and 24-hour reception. Around the corner from a funky bowling alley and a cute breakfast place.

Had a room in the back building on the third floor, and enjoyed my coffee on the balcony every morning with lovely views of the lake and the marina.

It's not brand spankin' new, but it has that older lodge feel that's very cozy and comfortable.

Decent rates for Memorial Day weekend, too.

If you like a clean, accommodating, spacious and comfy place to stay, with all your needs covered without being a 5-star hotel, then this is for you.

My boyfriend and I decided to plan a quick trip to Tahoe so we didn't have much choice in where to stay. This place was perfect for us for $90 a night. We checked out the room before we said yes!

It was clean, basic toiletries, clean towels, balcony (ask for a lake view), the water pressure in the bath tub was extremely strong which was nice, and everything worked. Don't expect the flat screen tv because it's non-existent here but it was a nice place for ONE NIGHT. : )

Everything is ALRIGHT. The rooms could use some updating and the whole place smells a little musty.. But not unbearable. It's quiet enough, the air conditioner is pretty weak and loud though if you happen to be there in the summer. Must be old like everything else. Not worth the $240 price tag.

Been here a couple of times now and each time they did not disappoint. Clean rooms with micro and fridge. They also have a sauna, jacuzzi, and heated pool if you have the time, can't say we've tried it but it looked nice. The workout area also has a nice assortment of machines with a lake view if you're inclined.

Each time the front desk was more than accommodating to our requests and other favors.

The haters can go, I'll keep it to myself.

Awesome hotel. Reasonably priced. Safe. Smells good. Balconies, lake views, mini fridge and microwave in room. Bed was really firm, not my favorite, but the GF slept like a rock. Free wifi. Pool and jacuzzi were closed but they looked like they would be enjoyable. Overall a great deal for a last minute reservation.

Two LEVEL Jacuzzi makes those long snowboard day aches go away. This spot is one of the good joints on the lake. I dunno how the rating can be this low when it was cheap compared to all the other places in south lake tahoe.

The beds are nice, soft and supportive. Hot Water Pressure for the shower head was the best part of the room necessities as well as the cable tv.

The King Lake View Rooms are almost too big (and while you get a lake view, save your money and go with the non-view, it isn't that great and if it's snowing you can't see a thing)

Clean. Typical Tahoe rooms that are slightly dated.

The two-tiered hot tub is amazing though. and the new fitness room is small but actually had a bench with dumbbells up to 50lbs, and incline bench, a TV, and some running and biking equipment. The sauna is great too.

And the service is fantastic. The guys who run this place are very accommodating.

If I had to get a room in South Shore, I would go back.

Awesome location! I don't frequent Tahoe very much, but I must say I was very pleased with Inn by the Lake. It's close to everything you want to be close to. I went snowboarding at Heavenly Ski Resort which was about an 8 minute drive. Went to the grocery store which was about a quarter mile. Went to one of the best restaurants for both dinner and breakfast both were down the street. Went for drinks and didn't have to worry about driving. The rooms were nice and clean, and the rooms were affordable! During president's weekend when all other hotels were $200+ this place was about $140. Very happy with my decision and I will definitely will be returning on my trip to S. Tahoe.

Overpriced! Rooms with a lake view are 100 feet from street with constant traffic noise. Two queen size beds completely fill the small room, leaving no room for suitcases.  Mattresses are worn and single sink has no room for cosmetics. HOW could a bowling alley make up for a poor night's rest?

This Hotel experience was disappointing. Do not let the name fool you...this is nothing like a true boutique resort. It is over priced for what you get. The first thing you notice when you walk into the hotel is the musty, old furniture smell. The location of the hotel is not directly on the water either, it is across the street from it. Also, only certain rooms are "lake view" , if you can even call them that, being across the street and all. Might as well call it "street view" . My room was directly facing the parking lot and registration office, not so pretty. For being a "boutique resort" the amenities are terrible. No fireplace and the fridge is extremely small. Also, the room was small and cramped. I felt like I was at a motel 6, not a waterfront boutique resort. And with no continental breakfast I might have been better off at a motel 6, at least I could have a free breakfast. This place is WAY overpriced!!!

Staff - Awesome, super friendly.
Facilities - Awesome hot tub.  Place is a little older, but It is well maintained and definitely not run down.  The size of the room was perfect and the showers were hot and had great water pressure.
There is a diner and bowling alley right next door and the Heavenly shuttle picks up right out front.

I definitely recommend this place

My wife and I had reservations at a hotel at Stateliness. When we got there at 10:15 at night we were checked into a room that was not clean. We called the front desk and they moved us to a room even dirtier. We checked out. It was 11:30

After calling a few other hotels to no avail we called the Inn By The Lake. The front desk woman was polite and understanding. We were a bit nervous explaining our disappointment so she gave us three room keys to allow us to choose which one we wanted and sure enough they were clean and inviting. We chose the one with a lake view and stayed two nights. Used the bikes.  Enjoyed the balcony. Great friendly service loved it.
We are returning for the 4th of July and booking three rooms. One for us and one each for our grown son and daughter.
Recommend it highly.
Great location. By the beach and a park and close enough to the stateliness for a short car ride to the casinos.

Although this appeared one if the nicer rooms in south Lake Tahoe & the views in front of hotel were amazing (don't b fooled thinking u'll have a room with that view unless u purchase a suite) we will definatly b choosing somewhere else to stay!!!

I have to give this place a 3 because everything is either a 5 or a 1 on a scale...

5 Stars - the service, room coziness, cleanliness, the outdoor jacuzzi is amazing, the small gym, the front side outdoor look, close yummy food/shops, bowling alley next door, mini fridge and micro in our room, tv (small tube) with lots of channels, super clean and large bathroom, free wifi, again the service (front desk girls and maids were awesome). It was also nice that our room had a balcony with 2 chairs and a table to relax on at night.

1 Star - our room overlooked a trailer park (giranted prob the nicest trailer park you'd ever see lol. Never saw anyone, no cops, no noise, no kids, nada.), it is near the lake but it isn't by a beach or anything. You cross a street that is under construction, go down some stairs and then there is the lake. No beach, just rocks. The name of the hotel and the pictures make it seem as if you are on the lake. Not the hotels fault, but I don't think the people above us ever slept during 11pm-4am. Up all night and I think they weighed 500 pounds and were doing jumping jacks.

This place had a lot to make up for when we arrived. I had just come off several weeks of crazy work schedules with no down time, and was burnt out and ill-tempered and desperate for proof that working so hard pays off. I couldn't stand one more weekend of smoke and 100+ degree weather in the north valley, so we got a reservation here on the spur of the moment and drove up.

We arrived a bit before check-in, but staff was kind and accommodating and got us all set up. We were traveling with our dog, and when we arrived our room had a little doggie bed and bowl with treats for him - that was nice touch. The problem was, the balcony of our room opened to the entrance of the hot tub/pool area, and listening to people banging in and out the gate and talking too loudly in the pool for a few minutes, I called down and asked if we could change rooms. Again, staff was kind and quick to accommodate - we got a different room that looked out on to the lake and was in a much quieter area, no fuss. Perfect.

Both rooms were nicely appointed and clean - this isn't a new place but it was well kept up and I appreciated how clean everything was. The beds were comfy, and the robes were a nice touch. The patios are a real bonus - nothing fancy but a good spot to sit and decompress. Went for a walk along the shore and surrounding neighborhoods, took the dog to Regan beach, and in general had a nice afternoon. Strolled to MacDuffs for dinner, which was also great.

Next morning we checked out a couple of bikes and went for a ride. The bikes are free for guests to use, and we had a blast riding them around. I haven't ridden a cruiser (single gear, no brakes) in years, and it was so much fun.

I wish the in-room coffee was better. I wish this most of the places we go actually. It doesn't seem like it would be that expensive to put some good coffee in the rooms, and at $200+ a night, it doesn't seem unreasonable. But that's nit-picking - it's rare to get good coffee in a hotel room.

I think the only caveat about this place is that it looks like it is on the lake from their site, but it is actually on the other side of a very busy road from the lake. Traffic noise wasn't too bad, but if you were expecting a really quiet lakeside location, you should be aware. WiFi access also wasn't great, but honestly, I was just as happy without it.

This turned out to be the perfect super-mini vacation. It felt like a real getaway, even if it was only for a day. We will definitely be back.

Wee bit expensive for what it has to offer. Still, we had a good time.  We had one of the nicer rooms, with a view of the lake.  However, it did have a busy 'highway-like' road in front of it. Had to look past that to enjoy the lake view.  The hotel was dog-friendly and seemed well maintained.   The pool and 2-level spa are nice. The property is older but they do a good job keeping it up.

They offer free bike rental for 2 hours. This was awesome and we really enjoyed riding around on the cruisers.

However, based on the location (definitely not as convenient as other places where you can walk to everything) I think the pricing might be a bit over the top.  If the pricing was adjusted to be more in line with what other similar hotels are asking, I think we'd make this a fave.  For now, we'll give it an "OK" rating.

$190 per night. Expensive for what you get.

The exterior, pool and hot tub look really up-to-date.

The interiors of the rooms, are a well-kept throwback to the 80s though. There's a razor disposal that looks to be from the 60s/70s.

Still, very clean, though I visited in the summer.

True, there is a trailer park behind and seen from the back rooms, but it's Tahoe. What the hell are you doing staying in your room looking out a window, you should be out there exploring.

We stayed at this hotel with our kids recently and I can say that the quality of it was not that good. I stayed here last weekend and absolutely loved this place. We got the Lake View room and I was little apprehensive about it after reading the mixed reviews. But when I entered the room and opened the patio door, the view was awesome. There are plenty of restaurants and convenience stores at walking distance from this place.

Lakeside shore is just across the inn, very convenient to take a stroll by the lake. They also have pool and Jacuzzi which I din't get a chance to use. Rooms were large and spacious with microwave, mini refrigerator and TV with decent channels.

Enjoyed my stay here and will definitely come back here again.

I have to leave one star because there is no option to leave no stars!  The hotel was dirty, the gardens are untended.  Upon arrival we were rudely informed that our room had NO Air conditioning, that there was a fan put in the room for "Our convenience" and if we did not like it, we had 30 minutes to find somewhere else or accept the reservation.  I asked the young, rude, woman at the desk, who spent the first two minutes of our check-in complaining that she was the only one who was working there, was overworked and hated it, if what she was saying was, "IF you dont like it, leave.?"  She said, "Yes. Essentially."

The parking lot curbs are damaged and crumbling.
The bathroom Electrical outlet was missing screws, and the faceplate came off with the switch.  The floor molding trim boards are separated.  The bed was HORRIBLE.  It sloped inward toward the wall, causing one to sleep with your feet elevated.  My side of the bed was also tilted or broken.  I woke up all night long to the roar of the "Convenience fan" and the sensation of rolling out of bed. In the morning I felt like I had been crippled.
Our hotel view, which was sold as a view of the lake, was a view of a trashy trailer park, looking in the oposite direction of the lake.
Hotels.com saved the day with a refund.  Avoid this hotel!  THey are rude, and the place is not worth $170.00 per night.  $7, maybe.  Better of to just skip it.

We had a beautiful view of the lake. The room was huge (single king bed) with a mini fridge and a microwave. Yes, the decor was a little retro but that isn't too uncommon for the Tahoe vibe. Everything was extremely clean and nice.

We got a deal through Living Social, which included 2 nights, 2 breakfasts at the cafe and 2 games of bowling. Would do it again in a HEARTBEAT!

Things you should know before booking:

1. This place is absolutely no-frills.  Cheap, kitschy decor that reminded me of that time I partied in Vegas with Ke$ha.  It's cool if that's what you're into, though.

2.  The temperature is set to "Hell".  It says "Air Conditioner" but all it would blow out was heat.  The room was so hot, even opening the balcony door couldn't cool it down.  We got NO sleep at all, and were dragging the next day.

3.  "Dog-friendly" is false advertising.  We weren't there half an hour before the front desk lady called up telling us our dog was barking too loud.  We explained to her over and over that it was the dog next door who was barking, but she insisted it was us anyway.  Luckily, the owners of the dog next door came back and it stopped barking, because she threatened to kick us out, saying (and I quote) "I don't believe you."  Now, I know sometimes people have bad days and whatnot, but never call me a liar.  That's just inhospitable.   Which brings me to our next issue:

4.  The walls are paper-thin.  I could hear conversations going on all around me up until around 11pm.  If you have an early-morning ski or hike, that becomes a BIG problem really fast.

5.  It's a shame this place sucks so bad, because it's in a beautiful location right on the lake.  Gorgeous balcony views.  That's the only good thing I have to say, really.  But definitely NOT worth the extortionate pricing.

I was so looking forward to my stay here at the inn based on an article in USA today and Yelp. No hot water in my sink for two days. Run down halls. Desk staff messed up our tour tickets. Online reservation stated an extra day of stay. desk staff seems untrained. Very unpleasant highway noise in lake view room. Could not enjoy!

We stayed four nights here in a king-bed room with lake view.
We had a pleasant stay.

I've read some of the negative reviews on yelp, and I will say that with one exception, I didn't find any of the bad things listed.

Room was clean and always cool (in July). We didn't turn on the AC at all. We did slide the door to the balcony open a bit at night for some fresh air. Small but nice balcony with two chairs.

The room was well-appointed. Nice bed, table, chairs, small sofa. Microwave and mini-fridge and a sink (besides the two bathroom sinks). Flat screen TV (which worked fine, though we only watched it once).
Bathroom was clean. There's a shower/tub + toilet + sink in one room. There's a second sink outside the bathroom so one person can shower while another can brush teeth, etc.
Hair dryer, iron, and ironing board were in the room.
Also a coffee maker.

I liked the fact that we weren't right downtown. And, no, you're not really "on the lake." You do have to cross the street. But there is a traffic signal right on the corner.
There are three restaurants very close by as well as a great ice cream place. Safeway is a block away. And a public park on the lake is a block away as well.

Loved the two-tiered spa. Nice pool as well.

We saw lots of people with dogs, but didn't hear any barking.

Front desk staff was always pleasant and helpful.

The major downside is that the walls are thin.  We could hear the folks in the next room talking. They weren't yelling or screaming, just talking. It wasn't a big deal since they didn't stay up late or get up really early, and we were out of the room most of the time anyway (as I assume they were too). But I was thinking, "What if we had late-night party people or loud drunks next door?" That, I'm sure would have been a problem.

I thought the price was okay. It was less expensive than what we paid for lesser accommodations on other vacations. So, I was okay with the price point.

Pleasant stay. And I'd book it again should we go to Tahoe in the future.

Spacious room. Very cool game room. Nice doggie accomidations , room was large enough for us to play with our puppy and the little doggie bed was a nice touch, she enjoyed laying on it. Could see the lake from our room, the hotel was pretty quiet, we had a nice time walking around to the surrounding spots. Lake is right across the street, enjoyed a beautiful sunset walk on the icy shore. Heaters work very well in the room as well, we were toasty. Only complaint was that I think the room was a little dusty, as we both woke up sneezing. Other than that, great experience!

My group consisted of 6 adults and 3 kids in a beach front town house. We stayed one night but we wished we could have stayed more! First off, the place looks exactly like the pictures and it was bigger than expected. The kitchen REALLY was fully equipped and so were the bedrooms. There were plenty of blankets and pillows and beds to go around (and they had the best sheets and blankets I've ever slept in. So comfy!) Check-in and check-out were hassle free which only adds to a great experience. I highly recommend this place for a relaxing vacation retreat.

Stayed here for a night and I thought it was very nice. You cannot beat the location of this place- it's 5-10minutes away from the casinos, shopping centers, Bank of America is right next door and a restaurant was just down the street.

We were able to get a room on the 3rd floor, with the balcony facing the Lake. Housekeeping was tentative- we checked in for 2, and only had one robe, but before we could say anything housekeeping showed up with an additional robe (I believe her name was Lucy)

Rooms were a decent size and clean, Beds were comfy, we had free wifi, a microwave, coffee pot, hair dryer, iron+ board, flat screen tv and fridge.

No complaints, I very much enjoyed my stay here and look forward to staying here again.

My husband found this gem!  it's nice, clean and affordable!  The outside isn't that appealing, I was a bit worried.  Not saying that  I'm bougee! but I don't want motel 6 standards either.  The staff greeted me with a nice warm welcome, as I ran to the  lit fireplace.  I told them I hated the cold, and they chucled.to them it wasn't  cold.  I told them my husband  will be right in.  As he came in they said, you must be Mr. __________.  oh they were so friendly.   They checked us in quickly,  and we  were on our way,  as we went to look for our room, I was still doubtful.  I just wasn't  feeling the smells, and the decor.    we were looking for the  elevator,I passed it up, the door  is so small.   but that's  nether her nor there.  we got to the room, and I was able to EXHALE!  The room  was nice!  They had robes, and a couch,a patio with chairs and a table, over looking the lake.  So far so good, if we comeback, this is were we will be staying!

Nice hotel with view on the lake.. Beds were comfortable and the lady behind the receptionbar was also really nice. Its not really expensive and they have free wifi, late checkout, free parking, big beds, etc. I really like Lake Tahoe :) and I would recommend this hotel for staying.

So where do i start?  If you are looking for a quiet place that you can sleep all night this is not the place, noooo really!!  Walls are thin....2 a.m. could hear people upstairs walking...bed sqeeking aswell as neighbors next door.....I won't give u details but it started again at 7 a.m. !!  Bathroom tub had hair...did not look like it was even cleaned !  :(

Our room was clean, the staff has been nice problem is that our 'room with a view' is right next to the main road and is super noisy! Even with the door closed. The view is obviously great but ruined by the traffic. It goes all night too. We were too lazy to switch rooms but would not book here again.

I stayed at the hotel for my honeymoon, and for being in Tahoe it was reasonably priced.  The room was adequate, the bed was fine but not amazing, and the shower was a little old and the hair dryer didn't work.  In addition housekeeping did not remake the bed for us, forcing us to remake the bed on our second and third day.  The lighting was also a little dark.  In addition it had the huge detract ion of not serving breakfast.

However, the service and amenities were excellent.  They had a great game room, with a foosball table, and an air hockey table.  They also had a small excersize room and a lending library.  On top of that they had a two teir spa, and a pool, plus the addition of bath robes, despite being a little old and one of them being broken was a nice touch.

The customer service was prompt with any requests and blew us away when we needed a DVD player, having rented some DVDs thinking we had a player in the room, and they arrived thirty minutes later to furnish us with one!

So all in all, with all the pros and cons, we would definitely be willing to stay here again, and would recommend it to anyone coming to Tahoe for a weekend.

This place was recommended to me. The price was fair. My husband got us a room for two nights in the withOUT the lake view to save money. This was fine because we didn't spend a lot of time in our room. The view was not pretty in the back. I did enjoy that we had a patio on the third floor.

The pool was pretty; nothing over the top but nice. The hot tub, too. We didn't go in but I did hang out there for a bit.

I love the game room. Lots of family choices. Definitely somewhere I'd like to bring my kids.

There is a restaurant in walking distance but we didn't go there to say if it is good or not.

The hotel room was a nice. Overall the place seems a little outdated but it didn't bother me. Maybe that's the look and feel in general around here?

I LOVED that our room came with a fan, microwave, and mini-fridge. All super nice. Very handy. It was well cleaned. We missed the maid service being in our room both times when they tried to come by. So, I can't give feedback there. Parking was easy and close.

Overall I would recommend it!
