We stayed at the Timber Lodge for the second time in a year. AS always, it was wonderful; everything from parking your car to the bellboys and front desk staff carry out everything smoothly and efficiently like a well oiled machine. Everyone is very nice and knowledgeable. Their are two pools, three Jacuzzis, book rentals, activities on and off the resort put on by the resort, a fitness center, and just about every amenity that you would expect from a resort. The rooms are clean and well maintained; I prefer the two bedroom units sense they are needless to say bigger and have a shower as opposed to just a just a tub. I love the fact that they also have a regular tub, plus a Jacuzzi tub which I have yet to try. Like other yelpers have said, they provide you with a fully furnished kitchen which is cool. You get maid service every day and the place is next to a plaza with various restaurants and shops, plus a shopping center across the street with an Albertson's and other shops and restaurants. You are only footsteps away from the ski resorts and casinos. Essentially, you are in the center of the hart of South Lake Tahoe with everything at your fingertips. What more could you ask for? Oh,! the in-house restaurant, Fire and Ice is an experience in itself. It is Mongolian barbecue style meets fusion; you get your food and bring it up to the hot wok where they quickly cook it up. Everyone is in a party mood with such a lively atmosphere and music. They also have festive drinks which I had two of, that is a total of 92 oz. I amazed the waitresses; they were could not believe that I was still vertical, asking "How are you doing" a few times. All of the meats and vegetables are what you would expect with sauces like orange, Szechwan, garlic, Panza, soy, and other Asian and Asian fusion sauces. They also give you corn tortillas and bread with your meal. So, for a good time and a prime spot in South Lake Tahoe, Marriott's Timber Lodge cannot be beat. Keep up the good work guys.!

I well never stay here again.  This building is very old so the walls and doors might as well be made of paper, all flash no substance.  I can hear my next door neighbor beating eggs in the morning and a lot of people bring their kids.  But its not that kid friendly since people are partying and drinking all over the place.  They'll let like 8 people book a room and have loud parties all night.  I mean like full on yelling down the hallways, party with the door wide open, some chicks were screaming in the hallways out of the window, this persisted for like 3 hrs starting at 2am in the morning.  $300+ per night to get no sleep and then try to snowboard the next day....not worth it.  The beds are very hard and uncomfortable, the bedding are microfiber filled so they don't breath at all.  If nothing wakes you up and you can sleep in the middle of a runway, then its a great hotel.  The pool is nice.  This place looks like a 4 star hotel, but far from it, its a 3 start at best but with 4 to 5 star prices which equals rip off.

I would rate this 4.5 but I have no idea how to do halves! This is our first time staying here and we loved it! With a large family we booked the 3 bedroom villa (which is actually a 2 bedroom suite with an adjoining door to a one bedroom/bath room). The villa had 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, full kitchen - fully stocked, washer and dryer, free wireless for internet, tv's in each room, windows that actually open (well a little bit anyways) and we were lucky enough to get a balcony that over looked the pool area. I sat on the balcony for most of saturday morning drinking coffee, checking emails, and watching everyone at the pool - was one of my most relaxing mornings in Tahoe ever! The pool is awesome! It has 4 hot tubs, a kids pool area, a large adult pool and it closes down at 10pm so you can be sure to get your sleep! Be aware however that if you want to sleep in - you might want to keep your windows closed -- kids are always at the pool first thing in the morning!! CONS: there is no room service and no maid service. You have to pay extra to have maid service. So if you plan on showering, make sure you track the cleaning lady down for more towels or pay extra to have them clean it. Their card keys get de-coded when near a cell phone or credit card. All of our keys got de-coded atleast once. It was a total pain in the butt! One of the ladies at the front desk told me to keep the cards at least 5 feet from cell phones or credit cards - I still am not sure how to do that and carry all your stuff at once?? They need to find a new system for their card keys Stateline brewery is less than a 3 minutes walk from the front doors and starbucks is about a 5 minute walk from the back door/gate. Will definitely stay here when in Tahoe!

Spent a week here in August. Excellent location for all things Tahoe. Food and groceries in walking distance. The Heavenly Gondola requires less walking than going to the valet for your car. Casinos within walking distance. Hotel has fully equipped fitness center with shower facilities. Parking is $19 a day, but you can park for free in the Harrah's lot next door.
(Spend 45 minutes hearing a time share pitch and get $100 voucher towards food or the gondola ride.)

I had a preview presentation at Marriott's Timber Lodge at lake Tahoe. My sales executive was Tom Cardoza. He was a pretty laid back, straight forward, no pressure kind of guy. I was pretty honest with him and upfront and he was the same with me. We went through the whole preview and got into his sales office. Tom brought his boss in and he explained all the numbers for ownership of the condo. I told them I wasn't interested and I didn't get a lot of pressure. Then the marketing guy Ryan Anderson came in and explained he was the only one that that didn't want me to buy. He wanted me to purchase either a 7 day or a 3 day vacation package to come back to this hotel. I told him I wasn't interested and he said here are some coupons and pretty much threw them at me on the table. Ryan got up and started to leave the room so I asked him where the exit was. He turned around and said go out these doors and turn right. I think Ryan was the least pleasant of them all.

We have been time share owners for 20 years and have never received such awesome service as we did at Timberland Marriott in South Lake Tahoe. The accommodations were ideal, the location could not be more perfect, but the service was phenomenal.  Our checkout time was 10 a.m. (which is very early) but we asked for 1 p.m. and they accommodated it.  We've never had any place allow us to stay that much later.  We will definitely come back to Timberland Marriott in South Lake Tahoe!!

I spent the past 5 days here with my friends. We had a 2-bedroom villa with a whirlpool tub in the master suite. It had a fully stocked kitchen- full size refrigerator, stove, oven, toaster (the kind that sucks), dishwasher, and even a blender. They also have a washer and dryer but you have to bring your own detergent and dryer sheets.

It's the perfect place for a getaway with your girlfriends or boyfriend. Harrah's is right next door (well, Embassy Suites is next door and Harrah's is next to ES), so if you like to gamble there are lots of casinos at your disposal (just across the stateline). Hard Rock is located across from Harrah's, inside of Harvey's, and there's a new casino just down the block called Mont Bleu, which is supposed to have the next "it" club.

Parking is valet only- $14 per day, but worth every penny. To my understanding, there's free parking, but it's difficult to find and not worth the trouble. The valet guys are on top of their shit- they open doors and chit chat a little, even at 6AM.

If you're a timeshare owner, you have to pay for cleaning service. For the master suite it's $15, so it's reasonable.

Our room was a studio, so we had a mini fridge, microwave, and kitchen sink. (No stove, no fire place, no jacuzzi tub in studios.)

The location was great.  We could get to Heavenly gondola in a few second from the hotel lobby.  Also, this hotel is walkable distance to Casinos.  If we need any groceries, Raley's (we went there every day during our stay) is just across the street.   Some restaurants, movie theater, ski rentals are in the same properties.

(BTW, Heavenly ski resort is way expensive-almost $90/day!! Marriott does not own the resort, though...)

These last few days we stayed at the Timber Lake Lodge located in South Lake Tahoe. This was a family vacation with my wife and me along with our two children. The hotel was fantastic. Top score however, the lodge has a functional idiot as manager of the valet parking. This kid was rude and very unprofessional. This kid is in way over his head. I heard a number of guest complaining about his inability to get things done. As an ex military instructor I can see when one has no idea of what one is doing or how to keep poise and make it work. This kid needs to be removed from this position. May be a comprehensive course on customer ethics would help. On the other hand some morons belong at the bottom of the food chain!

Went to Tahoe to elope, stayed at Timberlodge.  Great location, clean rooms, everything we needed there.  We really really loved the heated pool and several hot tubs.

The staff was not as friendly as I'd like.  Lots of young people who seemed like they were always annoyed with us.

Long story short, great hotel, love the outdoor pool, super location, but they really disapointed me in the end when the charged the room to the wrong credit card and made us run around in order to fix it.  That was annoying.

We've stayed at this great property for 3  nights and love it!  Location can't get any better. customer service and housekeeping guys are prompt and trying their best. Nice gym, great swimm pool, jacuzi, etc. Can't get any better.
Also it was kind of weird to have a cleaning lady almost ruining our dishwasher, not cleaning our  bath tub...
I cut my lips with very sharp edges of the spoon we've had in the kitchen on the first night (glad my kids didn't get that spoon! LOL). It looks like it was damaged, so it wasn't safe to place it back in the drawer. Manor cut, but very inconvenient for 4 days.
Check your silverware!!!

I stayed at the lowest price room for $149. I think it was a great deal. Whatever you want to do, location is perfect as everyone says. My only complain is the noise. You hear voices and noises coming through the wall and ceiling particularly at night when everybody is back. There was a family with small kids staying in the room above us and I heard the girls jumping and shouting late at night.

Nice location and facilities, although it lacks the "Wow" factor if you're considering it as a time share.  I'd rather see the Lake (which is strangely distant) than the Gondola, although the plethora of food, shopping and other support facilities is a real plus.

Just returned from our annual family vacation at Tahoe and had a great stay at the Timber Lodge.  Great location, very nice rooms, free wifi, steps from the casinos and shops.  The kids enjoyed the pool and hot tubs.  Rates can be a bit pricey if you do not have some sort of discount...luckily we did!  Overall, a great place to stay.

Location Location Location!  Man, this place is right next to Heavenly Gondola.  Plenty of shopping near by, and first class suites and rooms.

So why am I giving it only 3 stars?  Because this place is waaayyy overpriced.  I stayed here fore 4 nights, and I got a really good rate, because I have a friend who works for Marriott.  I would never pay their normal rate, it's very ridiculous.

They also charge you around $20/day to park your car.  I parked mine at Harrah's and just walked.

Very nice room though, and a comfortable bed.  The place came with a kitchen, so we ended up heating up leftovers in the morning.  Great way to stay in your room for breakfast!

Family member came with my wife and me and got a good rate for the 1-bedroom villa.  Parking is $26 per day and is Valet Only -- rather expensive, I thought, but what could we do.  Villa was beautiful, with large TV in living room area and smaller TV in bedroom.  Large bathroom with large shower enclosure, and the shower head produced a nice stream of water.  Large kitchen area with big refrigerator.  Bed seemed a little lumpy to me, and the pillow did not support my head well.  Lots of activities -- some free and some for a fee -- at the Timber Lodge; our family member took advantage of a one-hour free yoga class one morning.  Short walk (not much more than about 300 of my steps) to Nevada state line and casinos (Harrah's, Harvey's, and others).  Heavenly Valley ski lifts next to side door of the Timber Lodge.  Heavenly Village shops, restaurants movie theater, and ice skating rink (not open when we were there in late April this year) are next door and extend out towards the shopping center where Raley's supermarket and other stores reside.  We took a 2-hour cruise on Lake Tahoe on the Ms. Dixie II paddle wheeler out of Zephyr Cove, and the cruise people will pick you up in free shuttle bus at the two Marriott properties at South Lake Tahoe and other locations and bring you to the boat dock.  Shuttle also brings you back to your hotel for free.  Cruise was $47 per ticket, but only $42 with AAA membership and even less -- $42 -- when you show your Marriott room key card.

I usually go to Tahoe in the winter, and I usually stay/ski on the North shore, but when an opportunity came up for a free, all-expense paid* weekend at the Marriott in South Lake Tahoe, who was I to say no?  (* and by "free" I mean my sister was staying there with her family and invited me up, and I happily mooched off them).

The location couldn't be better if you like convenience and being close to everything.  The Heavenly gondola really is "steps away" (to quote the brochure), you're surrounded by shops and restaurants, and Harrah's is right next door.  The pool is large with plenty of lounge chairs for all (but it's about 4' at its deepest - I like a deeper pool).  If you're with kiddies, there's lots to keep them entertained - there's a play room and little activities like face painting and free ice cream.  All the hotel employees seemed nice.  I just wish they had more convenient self-parking options -- I don't like to pay extra for valet.

The room (alas, we didn't have a suite) itself was fine - comfortable and clean, but pretty much your average hotel room plus a tiny kitchen area.  But again, the location can't be beat.

As nice as Tahoe is in the summer, I left hoping for a good ski season this year.  Pray for snow!!!

AhhhhhMazing!!! I just got back from a great weekend with the boyfriend at South Shore.  The location is spectacular, with great shops, restaurants, and people.  It's great walking disctance from their PRIVATE beach (yesssir private!) and the evil Casinos.

The resort is very well-kept, the pool is perfectly set at a comfy 80 degrees, and they have 4 whirpools, one is HUGE that can fit at least 15 people, another 2 can fit 10 people or so, and then there is a "2 seater" that me and my love shared for a good 45 minutes.

We had a 1 bedroom villa, and I swear it was bigger than my apartment.  There was a kitchen with granite counter tops, and marble flooring, a separate living room with a fire place, which led to the bedroom that had a whirpool tub that ACTUALLY fit my 6'5'' bf!  There was a separate bathroom with his and hers sinks, and this bathroom was bigger than my bedroom at home, seriously.

They have THE most comfortable beds, with HUGE fluffy pillows, and a big cushy comforter.

I could only spend a couple nights there, but after my one and only visit I'm really considering purchasing a timeshare...I absolutely LOVE Tahoe to begin with, but this place is like no other.

We had a 1 bedroom villa

Wow, this place is truly as good as it gets!  I've been wanting to stay at this property for awhile now, and I finally got a chance.

When I drove up, there was no obvious place to self-park my car, so I had to pull up to the valet.  The dude was pretty cool and i asked if there was self-park and he said no.  Hmm ok.  The dude was hella cool and told me to check in b4 unloading to make sure the room was ready. Back to the valet in a sec.
So i go in and walk right up to the girl behind the counter and tell her i'm checking in.  Super quick and painless process and the girl gives me a rundown of the haps.  So the i go back out to the car and get my stuff and head up to the room.  The one thing i want to point out about the valet is that it is a huge plus in the winter because when they bring your car around in the AM, it's warm and not freezing cold from the elements because they have an underground garage!
The room: huge 1 bedroom corner suite across from Fire and Ice. I've stayed at other 1 bedrm Marriott villas but this one is by far the largest!  Everything is clean and well maintained.
They also have a TON of activities if you want to participate.  We went to the lobby one night and had a free face painting for my daughter.  The next morning they had waffles and coffee for like 7 bucks in the lobby.
Everyone on the staff that we encountered was hella nice!  That totally sets this property apart from others.

This place is conveniently located in the heavenly village and within walking distance to the casinos, movie theater, ice rink, restaurants, and the gondola to the top of Heavenly is right outside your door!  What more can you ask for?   Sorry, it won't wipe your butt.

I just stayed there for a weekend of fun for a bachelorette party and it was great.  This hotel is filled with everything you may possibly need and more.  It is also in a prime location, near a ton of shops, bars, clubs and casino's.  They have a huge adult pool, one kiddy pool and THREE Jacuzzi's and a daycare for the kids.  The hotel itself was made up of three large buildings, not including one that was under construction and the service was excellent.  We never had to worry about parking or lugging bags, due to great bell hops and room service was 5*'s.

The best part was definitely the location.  Just out side our room, about a stones throws away, there were at least twenty shops, boutiques and several restaurants.  There was even a Cold Stone's; that got a little dangerous for all us girls.  Also, there was a movie theater in very close proximity; definitely in walking distance and that was nice for those of us that didn't want to lay by the pool all day.  And I was also pleased to find a grocery store with a pharmacy right across the street.  It was all very convenient.

The room we had was also excellent.  We stayed in a two bedroom sweet and it had a fully loaded kitchen.  I loved that there was not one thing missing from that kitchen.  They had thought of everything, including Tupperware!  We even had our own washer and dryer.  And to top it all off, it was fairly affordable.  Tahoe is beautiful and a ton of fun.  It is a great place to get away, especially for people living in and around the Bay Area.

I stayed here over the 4th of July weekend with 9 other people in a 2 bedroom villa for about $1070 for 2 nights.  Well worth the money.  The room easily slept all 10 of us, 7 girls and 3 guys we are all rather close though.  It had two bathrooms and I still felt like we had plenty of privacy when we needed to shower or change.  This place is perfect for a large group or family looking for the daily maid service of a hotel but still want the extra room and ability to cook your own food like a cabin would offer.
The other great thing about the resort is the pool we spent a whole day relaxing by the pool, it was really nice.  And you can't beat the location you are literally right next store to the casinos, no need to take a taxi.  There is also a few restaurants down stairs and you are within walking distance to safeway.  I think it is $20 a day to park, but you can park next store at Harahs and save the money.

COM-FY! this lodge is definitely great. It's situated in the heart of S. Lake Tahoe, and right in the middle of the Heavenly village. Stayed with friends in a three bedroom villa (Can I just say?....you go rich lesbians!). Three baths, jacuzzi, balcony, and a frickin kitchen. South Lake Tahoe is a very eclectic place- the Marriott almost seems out of place with the throwback hotels, restaurants, and hospitality of the area.  Nonetheless, other family members were staying here, and I wasn't opposed to a night at the Marriott.  Luckily, I had a $100 gift card, so it softened the blow of $220/ night during spring.

When we arrived around 2 pm, the room wasn't ready yet, so we left our bags and went sightseeing and got something to eat.  When we did check in, we were very pleasantly surprised.  The room was almost too big for 2 people, what with the separate bedroom and living room/ dining room.  We could have slept 4 others if needed.  The kitchen was a nice surprise, even with a Kool-Aid container in the fridge.

The bedroom was somewhat small compared to the rest of the room, but offered a balcony to peek at Lake Tahoe and enjoy morning coffee.  The bed was extraordinary with king sized accommodations made with fine linens.  The TV had any channel I needed and the closet was big enough to move in.

The bathroom was impressive, also.  The bathtub, though not used during our stay, could have fit 2 if desired.  The hotel provides Bath and Body Works toiletries, a nice surprise.  It was actually a smart marketing plan- the scent is so good I now own the soap for my guest bathroom and find myself using it often.

Overall, the stay was quick and our needs were few.  The staff at the front desk was very helpful and friendly, the room needed nothing else and I will definitely be staying here again, gift card or not.

This place was a great find!
I stayed here this past weekend w/ a few friends.
Check-in was a breeze..room was very clean...no 2 night minimum....and room was cheap! (well not cheap..but cheaper compared to the other older hotels)
This hotel seemed newer and is a 3 minute walk to Harrahs and Harveys.
I would def stay here again.

This is more of a 3.5 stars type of place. The hotel is nice, exactly what you'd expect of a Marriott.  The pool was nice but bit smaller than I expected.  Rooms are nice and clean and there is free wifi.  It loses couple stars for the $27 a day valet parking and not having a buffer breakfast that Marriott is known for.

Timber Lodge makes it easy.

You are 5 steps from:
1. Gondola to Heavenly
2. Harrah's / Vex
3. Starbucks
4. Raley's (Beer)
5. Hot tub and heated pool (w/separate pool towels)

Nothing else to worry about... they sell eggs and bacon in the lobby so you can put the stocked kitchen to good use (frying pan and flatware included!)

Stayed here in January over MLK weekend.  Due to the holiday weekend, didn't get the choice location, so our room was on the first floor, with a view of the valet parking area.

The housekeeping people were basically absent during our stay. The hotel room was not luxe, but definitely adequate for our needs. The sofabed was a good place to throw all our ski gear. The staffpeople were nice.

The location of this hotel is AMAZING. Lots of things within walking distance. It is just too bad that on the day we chose to ski, it was too windy, so the gondola lift (the prime selling point of this hotel to skiers) was closed.  The shuttle buses were waiting to take us to the lodge though, and that worked out pretty well too.

Hubby and I hit Tahoe last weekend and boy was it off season.  Yeah, duh right?  Well, we're Tahoe newbies so cut us some slack.  Anyway, the weather was great (60-70s) but unfortunately, all the things we wanted to try were closed: zip lines, gondola, kayaking, etc.  Bummer.

As for the Timber Lodge, Marriott rarely disappoints.  The Alpine building offered good amenities and convenient location.  Pluses included: free wifi, a beautiful, awesome, humungo heated pool plus FOUR hot tubs.  Minuses included: $19/night valet parking where the guys did this weird thing windexing the windows as soon as I got into my car.  Odd.  Also, front desk agent charged me Sat rates for both Sat and Sun nights... when I told him it was incorrect, he said, "I don't think so..."  Excuse me, say that again?  Thankfully the front desk manager Jaime corrected the error promptly.  Pretty shitty for a 4-star establishment though.  Finally, we asked the concierge for a recommended walk to the lake-- he told us this podunk, sidewalk-less path to a chain link fence.  Maybe bc it was off season.  I dunno though: it was a horrible intro to the lake.

Where do I start? The staff was really nice as soon as I entered the parking lot I was greeted by a nice young man. Then the night audit clerk was really nice and efficient with the check in. Now when we walked in our room, it made the drive worth it. I would stay here again for sure.

Absolutely gorgeous hotel in Heavenly! We got a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom suite this past weekend for a little over $200 - apparently quite a deal since this hotel/time share runs $700-800 a night during ski season.

The suite was unbelievable. We had a fireplace, dining room, full kitchen, a master bathroom with a jacuzzi tub, and several plasma screen televisions. Oh yes, and a washer and dryer with tide to keep our ski clothes clean!

The resort's location is key if you want to ski or gamble at Harrah's or Harvey's. You also have several Starbuck's and grocery stores within walking distance of the resort. Prime location for people who don't want to walk too far in the cold.

Impeccably clean rooms and professional staff. My only complaint is that the resort lacks room service!

My daughter and I are staying here this week for our annual mommy/daughter vacation.

We came here last year too.

This is a terrific spot to stay while in South Lake Tahoe. For a family, it is great because you get a fully stocked kitchen and all of the amenities.

Since we have a timeshare in Colorado, we trade for this one. It is one of the best to stay at in Tahoe. A lot of the other ones are so dated that they really are not very nice. The Marriott is beautiful and the location is terrific.

And when you have a three year old with you it is nice to be near all of the things that make a kid happy ... Coldstone Creamery, the movie theater, snow, the gondola and Wolfgang Puck's pizza.

And it is fun to swim in the pool.

My daughter thinks life does not get better than this.  ^..^

We took our lil Wasabi there for a one day break with the family and were very satisfied with this resort.  Although, during high season, the prices can get kinda outrageous, try to find a deal towards the end of summer the week before.

The one bedroom suites were huge, over 700 square feet with two TV's and DVD players, kitchen had everything, nice dining area, and even a washer/dryer!  Jacuzzi Bath and Shower completed what felt like a one bedroom condo.

Great location on the Lake, 2 minute drive to the Recreation Park.  The Timber Lodge is situated right near Harrah's, Harvey's for the gambler with plenty of shopping all around.  There's also a great BBQ place right across the street, Womack's.

This is definitely one of the nicest places I've stayed in Tahoe.  Even though it costs a bit of change, take the Gondola ride to the top, the views of the Lake are amazing from up there.

Overall a nice hotel and resort. Check in employee was terribly rude, but Valet, Housekeeping, and Checkout staff were friendly. Check in was bad since check in agent got very upset when I asked him a question regarding a building number on a map, and angrily told me to not ask any questions until he was done talking. He was very rude and condescending. This left a very bad first impression of the hotel. As for the room, we requested higher floor on reservation, but got lowest floor and they would not change it. As for the room itself, it was very clean and well maintained. Bed was great too. Internet was free and fast, but parking was extremely expensive. Overall, seems like a nice hotel, but due to bad check in experience, I will stay elsewhere when I come back to the area. I travel so much for business and pleasure, and this was first time ever being yelled at by an employee. It was for a simple question regarding a building number! I would have given this place 5 stars, but due to check in employee's attitude, I am only giving 2 stars.

What an awesome place!  The building looks like a large log cabin and is just stunning.  We stayed here in a 1 bedroom villa with a lock-off which is an attached hotel room with a bathroom and kitchenette.  The main villa had a full kitchen, washer/dryer,  large TV, fireplace and a beautiful master suite with a large bathroom and jacuzzi.  Outside your villa is a heated pool and 2-3 hot tubs that melt the tension of the day away.

There is also nice shops, restaurants (skip Fire + Ice though), a movie theater, Cold Stone Creamery, etc.  There is also an ice skating arena during the winter and gondola rides.  There is also kids activities going on in a room off the lobby which includes movie time, crafts and other supervised activities.  It is also within walking distance from Raley's and the casinos.

Very nice place, can't wait to go back again.

Great location, wonderful beds, friendly staff.  Valet parking is a plus and very prompt.  Roomy condos with wonderful amenities like heated pool, hot tubs and well equipped exercise rooms.  Close to shopping, groceries and movie theater.  Easy walk to casinos and nightlife.  Close to public transportation.  Be sure to ride the gondola to Heavenly shops and snow skiing.  Enjoy a lakeside reverie.  Fabulous.

My partner and I were fortunate enough to spend 3 nights in one of the 2 bedroom Suites.  The first room we opened looked spacious, but not what were were expecting, there was a small kitchen to the left with a coffee maker, fridge and a microwave... to the right was a bathroom, the room was big and spacious, with a king bed, flat screen TV and a comfortable sofa.. Ok. .this works!

Then we opened a door,  we found a whole other area.. apparently we were in the guest bedroom.. We walked into a large spacious living room with leather chair and sofa, flat screen TV with DVD player, a table that seated 8 for dinning and a beautiful fully stocked kitchen, there wasn't one thing we needed or had to call for, everything was though of from steak knives to bottle openers to whisk brushes for scrambled eggs... Dish washer, washer and dryer..
The Master bedroom and bath was a whole other half of the apartment, spacious king size bed (though I will say that the bed was way too soft for our liking) a spacious walk in closet, jacuzzi tub big enough for two and the bathroom was a separate room with a walk in shower - The shower had fantastic water pressure as well!

Regarding the Service.... This was my first time going to a Time Share, we weren't trying to be sold on anything, we went in place of my boyfriends parents who couldn't make the trip. though if  we could buy a spot at this location we would.  It's mandatory Valet Parking, the drivers are courteous and very willing to answer any questions about where to go and most importantly, they are friendly and kind.
The location is walking distance to State Line, and there's the Heavenly Valley Gondola rides on the property - the cost for that was $30.00 per person, a little pricey in my opinion.  There's a movie theater walking distance as well as grocery store and a Starbucks.

The swimming pool was probably around 85 degrees and the jacuzzi was invitingly hot!

Overall, a great place to be at during any season!  Two thumbs up!

Went with family friend twice on a weekend during winter. She got us the 2nd floor suite with kitchen. My room has the view of the gondola, right above the restaurant fire and ice.

Our place was a two bed rooms with full kitchen between our room and it also came with washer and dryer. I like the area where a lot of foot traffic and all the restaurant. The seen with snow cover the place during winter was spectacular, specially when they put the ice skating ring and light bulbs decoration all over the tree and building.

The pool I have talk about the out door heated pool and the hot tube can set the night on fire and if you're lucky the seen looks better when snowing. With a drinks on one hand and GF on the other what more can I ask for. however, drinks are not allowed in a glass bottles and/or glasses of any kind.  So, use plastic water bottle to drink your alcohols with in the pool and hot tub area. Thanks you for reading if you need any help let chat.

We stayed here last year during New Years. It's like a mini apartment with kitchen, living rooms, and bedrooms. It is really clean and cozy.

Its cool because there is an ice skating rink downstairs and a bunch of good restaurants. Plus the Entrance to Heavenly's gondola is down stairs. Its also a 10 minute walk to the cosinos. To my suprise it was Crackin on new years. Timber Lodge is a must!!!

My wife and I spent a great weekend here.  Great king room with a view of the mountains, full kitchen, two tv's, and a huge bathroom.  There's a Raley's within walking distance, and if you don't want to pay for valet parking, you can park in the casino lot about a hundred yards away.

Rooms can be pricey, but they often run off-season or mid-week specials.  Besides with a full kitchen, you can save a lot of money eating in.

The staff was friendly, the room was immaculate, and no one even mentioned buying a timeshare.  We'll be back!

Great location in the heart of things in Tahoe, with the mountain gondola right outside your hotel.  Prices were reasonable, rooms were clean, and the pool area wasn't bad either.  The convenience, though, is the most attractive feature.

Valet parking was quite a pain.  They advertise to call down in advance but they either never answer the phone or never have the car ready when you arrive.  They also walk around your car and go crazy mad about trying to find scratches or dents so they can claim they are not at fault.  Watch them do it as they waive their hand at the camera wherever they see a dent when circumambulating the cars.

We are a timeshare owner here.  We've owned here for like 10 years and have no regrets and love it here!  We have not gotten tired of coming here year after year and have been able to bring family/ friends with us on every visit. I  guess I don't have a problem with some of the things that people complain about... not making the room or picking up garbage (you can pay extra fee if you want an extra cleaning, we choose to save money); when you are a owner, you don't pay the $26 valet parking fee, and as far as late check out, some times they can accommodate  If you are there during the Sat-Sun, it it much harder to get a late check out than if you are requesting a late check out on a weekday. We bought here because it's  ideal location.  We love our option to stay a week or split our week up into two visits.  We have stayed here over 10 times and have never come across any problems with guest service.  The service is great and they are always quick to help in any way!

It's a Marriott, it's going to be good, but the rooms feel like any other Marriott.  If you're staying in South Lake Tahoe with family, this is probably a pretty good choice, especially during ski season.  If you're a couple and here for the gambling - stay at one of the casinos. I got my room for free... a family member had to cancel at the last minute. Free is nice, but would I pay to stay here - probably not. There are so many lodging options in the Tahoe basin, so many places where you get the Tahoe feel that this place is noticeably lacking. Like I said, for families, probably a good option if you don't want to get a house. For skiers, the gondola is right out the back door. Lots of shopping nearby too. It's pretty spending and parking is $$ too.

They charge $26 a day for parking, valet only. Plus the tips, that really adds up and is quite excessive, in my opinion. Or, you can park literally in the next state at the casinos and walk a lot. But this is a great location, right in Heavenly Village at the bottom of the gondola. Pick up your skis at the ski valet (this is free), and you are off. There are lots of restaurants and shops in the Village, and a movie theatre. There is a shopping center nearby with a grocery store. We stayed in a lockout unit of a larger timeshare, sort of a studio with a mini-fridge, a microwave and a small sink. It was cramped to prepare food and there was no stove at all, but it was OK. I learned how to poach eggs in a microwave. There was also a toaster and coffee maker with filters. The room was clean and nice but needed air freshener. There is no mid-week housekeeping visit, which I sort of expect. We had to call for towels and other things. They will come in and clean for a charge.  There was wi-fi (no charge) but the signal was weak. The fitness center was very nice. We were close to the lobby but some rooms can be a hike. The heated outdoor pool and four hot tubs are open all year. There is a steam room in the fitness center but no sauna. The one restaurant in the building is a Mongolian BBQ type place, all you can eat for $26.95. You can try it once for the experience. Service was quick and friendly. Checkout time is a very early 10 AM and our request for a late checkout was refused. But even an hour after that there was no housekeeping in sight, so we really should have stayed. I would return for the right deal.

The timeshare deal is not pitched hard at all but there are places in the Village that will try to suck you in by offering excursions. Beware especially of Diamond Resorts International. In my opinion, any timeshare is a sketchy deal these days, and I own two.

I have to tell you, the customer service was excellent!  Everyone we encountered was extremely helpful and polite.  We were there on a very busy weekend but still felt we got great service.

Ok, so the beds are a little uncomfortable, and the extra charge for valet sucks but the grounds are well kept and our room was clean and a great size for a family of 4.

The staff was extremely fun, they had activities at the pool and everyone had a smile on their face!  We are going to make this a family tradition every 4th of July.

Btw, we got to the resort at noon and they had a room for us - and it was the 4th of July - so we were extremely impressed.

I absolutely love this hotel. As soon as we checked in we were offered cookies! Too bad I was too full from lunch to even want to look at them. LOL.  The location is in a prime spot, right where the Heavenly Gondola rides are and tons of great shops within walking distance.  It was kind of strange that their swimming pools were shallow but I loved that they had three jacuzzis.  They offer classes every day which are advertised in their elevators and in the mornings you get messages about the activities.  My only complaint is that they have the most pitiful little food shop in their lobby. I didn't even bother going there because it was so tiny, most people just ended up grocery shopping at Raley's across the street.  From now on when I'm in South Tahoe we're staying at this hotel.

Hubby and I stayed here on the last weekend of snowboarding season.  This is without a doubt the place to stay if you like to be right in the mix of things.  Room was nice with a mini kitchen and sofa - basically what I expect of a Marriott so it's really truly all about the location here.  Gondola is literally right out the door along with shops, restaurants, movie theater, ice skating rink, casino, and a Raley's.  Gawd, what more could a girl ask for? !

Minus one star for the crazy $22 charge for overnight parking.  Please Marriott, you are not the city - you must refrain from inhaling all that powder, it's making you delusional!  Until then, we will park in the adjacent casino...thank you!

Great Location, very clean room, friendly and helpful staff. We stayed 2 nights and would have liked to stay more. Loved that the elevators would only work with your room key for security. Check-in is a bit late, 4:00, we got there at 3:00 and they had a room ready for us but it was in the way back and we preferred closer to the lobby.  They checked with the person in charge of rooms and were able to accommodate us with a room and early check in. Valet parking is mandatory and the price a bit steep ($26 per day) but also very convenient and you have in and out privledges. Just text or call them for your car and they will bring it right to the front. We never waited more than 5 minutes. Rooms are very clean and well decorated. Would definitely stay here again and will recommend to friends and family

This resort has always been equally my All Time Top favorite at South Lake Tahoe if we could not get a suite at the Grand Residence, their sister location next door.  Conveniently located at the bottom of the Gondola to Heavenly as well as a 5 minute walk to the casinos and even a 24 hour CVS.   The fully equipped kitchen with dining area is nice so families can have a meal together or just relax in the hot tub or private steam room. 1 bedroom with kitchen can accommodate 5-6 people comfortably and they even have a roll away Cart service.  No on-site parking is the only downfall however, if you don't mind walking 5 minutes to a nearby parking garage, that'll save you the $26/day valet.  On their peak days, be prepared to wait up to an hour or so after check in time.  They say a 1 bedroom suite can take up to 2 hours to prepare therefore, the short wait was necessary.  They made the lobby quite comfy as a staff member passed out hot apple cider and fresh baked chocolate chip cookies.  Highly recommend staying here any chance you get, their customer service and friendly staff has never failed me.

We stayed here during construction but it didn't really bother me at all. We came up to have a relaxing few days away & we completely accomplished our goal. The rooms were nicely remodeled & had all the comforts of home: DVD player, fireplace, Jacuzzi tub in the room, HBO, full kitchen (in our room). We enjoyed the pool & hot tub area every night & didn't find it to be too crowded while we were there. I thoroughly enjoyed being walking distance to the shopping, casinos, & restaurants. We were able to enjoy all of these without getting in our car. Would be great for winter when its cold & snowy. The staff was pretty friendly although we didn't really have too much interaction past check-in. The lobby is very pretty & valet parking was ok.  I have stayed here twice in two different rooms & I enjoyed looking out over the pool area better. Bed was pretty comfortable & decor was really lovely.

The staff at Timber Lodge are amazing. From the Bell Men when you first arrive to the check-in to the staff at the Activities center. You could not ask for a more focused and dedicated group of young people.  Of course, there are even stand-outs among these pro's and we give our highest marks to Kirsten in Activities. I am generally easy to please, but this place was extremely disappointing. I'm not sure how they can get away with calling themselves a 4-star resort.
Our room was depressing, dark and uncomfortable. The towels were dingy and had lipstick stains on them, and even the bed was sloppily made. Overall, the hotel was simply an unpleasant place to be. Also, the 10:00 check out time is really unjustifiable at an ostensibly "nice" hotel. To make things worse, they only give you one day's worth of coffee for your entire stay (how cheap is that?), so setting the alarm for 9:00 in order to get out before they charge you another day is all the more painful.

It wasn't all bad - the staff was nice enough and the pool area was fine. Apparently it is a nice place to go if you have a herd of kids, as everybody else seemed to. In the winter, its immediate proximity to Heavenly would be another plus.

Overall, this place is absolutely not worth the money. Unless you absolutely need an outdoor pool, save yourself some cash and get the same quality room at one of the many cheap motels within a half mile. They probably won't even kick you out at ten in the morning.

The Timber Lodge  will most definitely be our one and only place to stay in Tahoe. The service is beyond excellent. The suites are spacious and yet cozy at the same time. We could not have asked for more. There are plenty of shops, restaurants, a movie theater and great rental places (we rented bikes) within walking distance. The Timber Lodge is the perfect place to stay when you come to Tahoe.

We stayed here for my birthday weekend.  We reserved 2 1-bedroom suites and 1 2-bedroom suite.  We had a blast!  In Tahoe, it is about location and this is by far the best location I've stayed at.   Heavenly was right outside our doors, I mean literally, the gondola was a few steps away, not to mention restaurants, shops, and rental places.  There's a Safeway about a mile (maybe less) away and the Tahoe strip is walking distance.  We were able to walk to Harrah's a few times during our stay for their buffet and to gamble.

The rooms are spacious and clean.  Our room was as big as a normal size one bedroom apartment with a full kitchen that was stocked with appliances, cookware and dishes.  The living room was comfortable with a fold out sofa if needed, a fire place, flat screen and a dvd player.  I was shocked at the channels we got including HBO.  The bedroom was my favorite because in between the bedroom and our bathroom, there was a full size jacuzzi that seats 2 very comfortably.  There were also double sinks and a separate shower, which we found very convenient.  There is also a closet with a full size washer/dryer and all the soaps/detergents were provided.  We received Marriott service with comfy home-like accomodations.  We love the Marriott beds and were not disappointed.

Service was also great and concierge was very helpful.  One thing we wanted that they didn't provide was room service.  I guess because this is a timeshare hotel, they didn't have that.  It wasn't too big of a deal because we just went downstairs to eat.

I would highly recommend this place to anyone that is looking for a comfortable place in Tahoe.

10am checkout, you suck.

No late check out, you suck more.

Your beds aren't even comfy.

So much for having a hotel to sleep. I thought the whole point of paying for a hotel was to have a place to sleep. Marriott does not believe in this.

$22 parking fee, daily, also sucks.

Blackout curtains don't blackout.

Front desk service is non-existent.

Won't be staying here again!!!!!!!! EVER

We drove up to Marriott Stateline for New Years as they were advertising a 'Family Friendly, Kid Friendly New Years Celebration'. We brought 5 kids ranging in age from 12 and up.

We have stayed at the Embassy next door in the past (many times) and rented conference rooms from Marriott and Embassy for our business conference guests.

This New Years Celebration was horrifying. Utterly horrifying.

The Embassy and Marriott had hired 'security' guards and there were masses of strange police forces who were wearing paramilitary camouflage and also SWAT style uniforms with large guns such as you would see for a violent riot situation.

I swear our family and others we spoke with felt like it would have been in 1940 Germany under Gestapo forces. For that matter - insert any fascist paramilitary totalitarian country.

We and about 50 other people - mostly families with children and couples were sitting at Fire and Ice around the patio bonfire pits they have there. Marriott at one point shot off a firework from the roof. We thought 'great - some fireworks for New Years' and that brought some other people over. It was a very friendly, peaceful and funny event. Everyone was having a good time- in an upbeat but mellow manner.

Suddenly we were all surrounded by this Security force (at 10PM!) walking around and getting pushy with people - telling everyone they had to leave in loud voices - that they were 'shutting this thing down' for 'safety reasons'. They got nasty with people for absolutely no reason and even made little kids cry.

They walked against the people there like I have seen videos of Riot police clearing protesters - and at 10PM!? Family Friendly New Years?

Now I had been at Fire and Ice many times in the past - with larger and more boisterous crowds by far than this was - far later into the night. This action by these Marriott fascists (I don't have a better name for them) terrorized children, upset parents and guests and was totally uncalled for.

Many other horrible things happened this night that were caused by very stupid Marriott and Embassy decisions on how to handle security, including only allowing one entrance at Embassy that was preceded by a long walk over a very, very icy and lumpy sidewalk area that had not been cleared or salted. They said they did this for 'safety' reasons- but more people were hurt trying to navigate that sidewalk than anything else that night. So the 'safety' excuse doesn't fly.

It was as if the entire complex Marriott and Embassy both were terrified of their own guests. And South Lake Tahoe itself resembled an armed camp. And this was one of the most 'chill' New Years groups I have seen.

It was horrible and I will not be back- nor will our companies be bringing business associates or clients to this area again.

Marriott and Embassy both could have done things much differently in how they decided to handle crowds and party-goers. They apparently used no social studies in crowd management - besides maybe Mussolini's handbook.

Room was very nice, clean, etc, but significant misses marred our experience:
- forgot to mention the $26/day valet fee before I reserved (no clue before arrival)
- told me about the exclusive private beach several times but failed to mention that I needed a pass (NOT room key) from the front desk...of course we didn't get the news until after we'd arrived at the beach with a picnic after a long hike
- returned to room around 3:00 and housekeeping had not been by...of course they knocked about 4:00, 30 minutes into a nap
- desk staff seemed untrained or uninformed or uninterested in local information about activities, destinations, etc.mbut they knew about hotel services to pitch. Supersize that, sir?

All told, an overpriced (by at least 1/3) shopping mall in the mountains that feels more like it belongs in Newport Beach or San Diego.

Front desk mgr. Andrew Jansen, front desk associate Joseph, and bell boys Bryce and Rambo are employees that the Marriott Corp. should be very proud to have in their employ. These folks are living proof that  " hospitality services " are not dead but are alive and well at the Marriott Timber Lodge.  I will be spreading the word to my fellow traveling buddies, that when in Tahoe, this where to stay. The place is so chocked full of neat and cool things to do (like a gondola ride in the summer!) that you would be hard pressed to find another playground like this one. Smack dab in the middle of "everything" that is South Tahoe the Lodge is a focal point that you may easily walk to most of the attractions in the area. My room was immaculate, all of the staff were helpful and full of smiles. And if you talk to some of them you will find out that they love the area and their jobs. Wow. You can't lose staying here. Really enjoyed our week stay here... We had a 2 bed room and 2 bath through an interval getaway.... We brought a group of our friends up for the holiday weekend.

The staff at the front desk was great.. They let us check in early. We were able to valet one of our cars for free. They have free wireless which worked great in the room.

The 2 bedroom can easily sleep 8 and possibly 9 to 10 with a blow up bed... The kitchen was average but served out purposes....

The pool area and gym are both solid.

The location is perfect.. Walking distance to the ski lifts, Starbucks, Raleys, the casinos...

The only issue I had was ............ nothing... I can't complain.....

Expensive. Used ALL My points for one night. Nice rooms. Valet only, which sucks. Enjoyed the steam room. Has 4 outdoor hot tubs. And had an outdoor movie going at night. Would stay here again if given the opportunity. Close to shops and restaurants.

Stayed here over this weekend. Very calm and inexpensive place to be. The NUMBER ONE rule I have before going on vacation, is to find a place for my child to have fun. This hotel provide activities for kids that allow you to leave them in the facility (The Cubs House) for a couple of hours  while the adults have FUN.. My daughter enjoyed our stay. I would definitely come back again.

I stayed there over MLK weekend in a one bedroom unit and was disappointed. Now, I have to clarify that my disappointment was relative to my expectations and the price of the unit.  For $350/night I expected a lot more.  Although the unit was clean and decently appointed, it was not stylish or tastefully decorated.  The kitchen was fairly well stocked and modern.  What disappointed me the most was the amenities and recreation facilities.  The surrounding pool area was not lit in the evening.  The pool was heated but the hot tubs were very small and not enough given the size of the hotel.  The lobby area is very small, meagerly furnished and right by the front entrance where the doors were constantly opening on either side of the lobby, letting a frigid breeze blow in; not a cozy place to hang.  The teen room was deserted as well as other activity rooms.  No game room for kids so mine were totally bored after skiing.  Also, no good restaurants in the hotel or around it.
Another really important aspect to consider when staying here to ski, is the Gondola; although conveniently located right outside the hotel, it is very slow. It does not offer the convenience, that one would assume as a benefit, of going back to the hotel at lunch time and then going back for some more skiing in the afternoon.  You have to be on the Gondola at 3:30 PM latest to be able to get back to the hotel at the end of the day.  There are no ski runs at Heavenly that you can take back down to the hotel.  So you might as well just stay on the slopes for the whole day.  By the time I got back to the hotel for lunch (because I could not easily find the ski run that led to the Gondola - but that's a bone to pick with Heavenly Resort) it was 2 PM.   It did not leave me enough time to enjoy lunch and go back for more skiing.  Bummer!!  It really cut into my skiing.  So I conclude that for $350/night I could have stayed at a hotel that was ski in/ski out.  I guess if I would have paid $200 for the room I would have been happier.

I LOVE THIS HOTEL.

I always come here with a big group of friends and family and I still give this place 5 stars even though I NEVER get to sleep in one of their dreamy beds. (I usually get stuck on a couch or pull-out sofa bed)

It's within walking distance to the casinos, the grocery store, a bunch of unique boutiques, ski shops, restaurants, bars. It's nice getting to be all cozy and shacked up in a cabin but it's even better to have things to do at night without having to drive.

The rooms are spacious. We've always gotten a 2-bedroom suite. The first room has one queen bed, one pull-out sofa, a mini-kitchenette and a bathroom. A door connects to the living room, which has a dining table for 6, a large kitchen, and either a pull-out sofa bed or L-shaped couch. The other bedroom has a queen sized bed, bathroom, and hot tub.

The gym has plenty of equipment and a weight room. The bathroom has a super-fast working sauna, showers, and lockers. The outdoor pool is heated to a very comfortable temperature and it's long enough for some laps; I have a low tolerance for cold weather but I LOVED the pool's temperature, as well as 4 or 5 jacuzzis (I forgot). Lots of people like to gather at the jacuzzis in the late afternoon with drinks. Come around 4-6 pm, or even later, if you don't mind the crowds for a chance at free booze from friendly drunks. Come at 1-3pm if you like your space (that's me!)

There's a daycare, a reflection room for yoga and stuff, another room with tv's and foosball...there's also a daily newsletter posted around that lists all the activities available at the lodge. My mom took a complimentary pilates class, for example. They've got other classes like Boot Camp Training, craft-making for the kiddies, and other classes that require a small fee and rsvp like snow shoe hiking.

The gondola for Heavenly is right outside the door from the lobby and there's a complimentary ski/snowboard locker room with an attendant nearby (tip the attendant please!). On the other side of the lobby is the bus that will take you to the Nevada side of Heavenly. Oh valet parking is the only parking available, which is the only downside.

Yes, this place is great.

Just got off the plane from Reno! Stayed at the Marriott July 3-8th.

First off, the Marriott has the BEST location in SLT. Right next to the gondola, shops, casinos & bars. About a 10-15 minute walk to the beach.

Check-in was easy. The lobby was nice & the staff was very helpful. We went to our room shortly after (we were in the Alpine Building) and were pleasantly surprised; it was HUGE! Full kitchen, washer/dryer, dining area, living room - in the adjacent room there was the bedroom, soaking tub and bathroom. We were on the top floor (6th) with a view of the pool and mountains.

Biggest pros:

The pool. It was the biggest/nicest pool we saw in the area. Lots of chairs, a kiddy pool & 4 hot tubs. We noticed the pool was pretty dead from 8a-12p; besides the stage parents coaching their young children on swimming. That was okay with us, though, because it provided a lot of entertainment (almost as good as Toddlers & Tiaras!).

The location. A block away from Harrah's/Harvey's. Valet at the Marriott is $24/day. Parking in Harvey's lot is FREE. We did valet on the first day but parked at Harvey's the rest of the week. Definitely worth it!

The rooms. Having a washer/dryer in the room was a huge bonus! Also, FREE WIFI!!!

Now, my only 2 VERY MINOR complaints:

First complaint: I wish there was a logo shop in the hotel! It would have been nice to get a hat or golf polo for my husband or parents. Since we were surrounded by shops, it was okay - I've just never been to a Marriott that didn't have one.

Second complaint: Elevators. By far the slowest elevators I've ever experienced. If you are able-bodied, take the stairs. Since we were on the top floor, we took the stairs going down every time since I ran out of patience after the 2nd day of waiting.

If we ever return to SLT, we will stay here without a doubt!

The Timberlodge is a great place to stay when you are in South Lake Tahoe.  There is so much to do within walking distance, you will never need to use your car.  :)

Heavenly Ski/Board resort is located within the hotel.  You can step out the hotel doors and literally step right onto the gondola going up to Heavenly.  If you don't want to ski/board for the day, you can take the gondola up and have lunch at the top of the mountain, go ice skating, or just hang around for the day.

The hotel is very clean, the staff is very friendly and helpful with fun activities to do while you are not skiing/boarding.  The rooms are extremely clean, there are 3 pools and hot tubs everywhere!  5 hot tubs for just one pool!!  :)  Guaranteed to stay warm.

Make sure you hit up Fire and Ice located in the downstairs section of the hotel.  My favorite place to eat in Tahoe.

Also, make sure you go to Stateline Brewery, which is right next to the hotel.  Really fun brewery, great atmosphere, family or friends.

I am a fan of most Marriott's I own in Maui.  I got a pretty good deal on a one bedroom Friday and Sat night for 120 a night using my owners discount.  Love fireplace and tub in my room.  Great locations.  Didn't get a chance to try out fire and ice.  Many retails shops near by.  Walk to Casino's.  Great getaway.

This place is expensive and I am not sure it lives up to the price.  But, the pros are it is steps from the heavenly gondola.  The staff is amazing!!
We had positive experiences with everyone we encountered from the valet guy to the front desk to the loss prevention officers who came to our room to fix the safe.

A particular shout out to Mike Hair the front desk manage in the evenings, Zach, front desk clerk, Julian, front desk clerk.  As well as Joe, David, and Chris with loss prevention.

The cons, the one bedroom villa has nothing in it other then paper towels. The kitchen has the basic household appliances but bring your own dish washing soap, etc...For the price I would think the would keep the villas stocked with the basics.

One other thing, we wanted to watch the Warrior and Sharks on Cal sport bay area, no one, not even the concierge staff knew where the games would be on.

We later learned on our own State line Brewery and Base Camp Pizza both have Cal sports bay area.

Overall very expensive with a very attentive staff.  Do not expect 5 star accommodations.

I was so excited to stay in this prime location.  We were up in Tahoe for a wedding and paid a little more to get a good location, hoping it would be worth it.  So, was it worth it?

Location:  Prime, truly walking distance to everywhere you want to be and a short drive to the golf course the wedding was held at.

Ambience:  A lot of families stayed here, so definitely not a little romantic getaway.  The rooms were dim and comfortable.  Unfortunately we never got to use the pool or the private beach while we were here.  Walls are fairly thin.

Staff:  Most were very friendly, especially the valet guys and bell guys.  I had a huge problem trying to check in.  Apparently, if your bf makes the reservation, you will not be able to check in without him.  At first I was told pretty much tough luck, come back when he's with you.  Then after interrupting his golf game twice, we came up with a confirmation number which a different guy said would be okay.  After a long day of getting up early and running around in the sun and altitude, I was extremely frustrated.  Also, one time it took me over 30 minutes after phoning down to get my car, cutting it close to get to the wedding.

Room:  Super comfortable bed.  But why was there hair both on the bed and under the comforter?  Did the staff even wash the sheets?  Or just smooth them down?  In addition to our super comfortable pillows and sheets, there was a rip in the middle of the sheet.  Not that I really care, but the price paid for the room would lead me to believe that the staff would make a bed with unripped sheets.  The shower head has three settings: piercing needles of water, a massage mode that pelts water bullets at your skin, and a mode where it trickles out in random directions.

Overall:  Unfortunately the hotel doesn't really need to care about their customers because the alternative is a crappy Days Inn down the street 1/2 a mile away from everything.  Or Embassy Suites which is even more expensive for a crappier bed and shower.  So take your pick.   I'm unimpressed, but I certainly didn't feel like they cared enough to try to impress me.

We are huge Marriott fans but this resort is not up to par. We've stayed next door at the Grand Residence and its generally cheaper and much nicer .

Pros: great service, perfect location, our 1br suite was spacious and clean.

Cons: only one real con... The bed was so hard we weren't able to sleep on it. It's unbelievable that they would have such crappy beds for $300/ ni . Awful enough that I wanted to give this place a 1 star but couldn't because everything else was great. If they want to be a real resort they should upgrade to feather top beds instead of crap that rivals the red roof inn.

For the price... Stay next door.

I so wanted to give them 5 stars!!  Everyone here was incredibly friendly!  The place was lovely.  I love the rooms, fireplace, kitchen... they had four different spas although one of them didn't work (the jets didn't turn on).  The heated pool was awesome since it was warm but not hot.  Great location - walking distance to casinos, a liquor mart, shopping, the gondola, etc..  Our family had a great time staying here

The minus one star - our last night there my sister and I are woken up at 3 a.m. by this LOUD noise that sounds like it's in the hallway.  It sounded like a very loud vacuum.  I opened up the door and couldn't figure out what it was.  It sounded as if it was in the lights.  But it would not stop and it was so loud we could not sleep.  My sister called the front desk and they said it was the wind.  I understand they can't do anything about the wind but that was BAD, we couldn't get any sleep our last night and they should really try to figure out something to do about that.   It was really bad and would make me not want to stay there again if I knew it was going to be windy.

There are two listings for this property on YELP, I used the one with the most reviews. I am a Marriott Gold Elite Member so I spend 50+ rooms a year in Marriott properties. I basically rate them as consistent and overall great places with a 3-4 star rating. I thought this property deserved a rare 5 star rating.

You can get caught up in the location, especially since this one is Lake Tahoe. So step away and objectively look at what we have here.

1. Beautiful accommodations, really nice rooms.
2. Unbelievably comfortable bed.
3. In house movie rental
4. Close to many good restaurants
5. Laundry facility (free)
6. 4 hot tubs
7. Nice pool
8. Excellent workout facility (big with free weights)
9. Amenities for kids, movie, miniature golf, etc
10. Lots of cool shops
11. Close to nice beaches (free beach pass)
12. Close (3 blocks) from the Casinos
13. Well trained, helpful staff
14. Very clean throughout
15. Microwave, frig, toaster and coffee maker in the room so you can reduce breakfast costs
16. Major Supermarket 3 blocks away for stocking your room
17. Room temperature control that works well
18. Seems like nice people stay here, they were all talking to me

Yes, its expensive. But if you are skiing or doing the summer gig in Lake Tahoe, this is an amazing self contained property. Excellent price/value relationship.

If you are visiting the area there are other great hotels and motels. You need to focus on what you are looking for and which amenities work for your particular vacation goals. There are many less costly alternatives with fewer amenities.

I loved my weekend staying here! We went to stay at a timeshare which was a suite and another connected room. It was so beautiful and comfy. Plus, we had a great view of the mountains and gondala ride. The hotel was right in the middle of the village and walking distance to Raley's, and other places to eat at, or to buy groceries or shop. We skipped the gondala ride, because it seemed a bit pricey, but we did check out the casino only a couple minutes walk away. This place seriously has the best location, you don't really need your car to go anywhere. They have a speedy valet service which is really convenient. And, the Marriott had a bunch of activities, for kids, teens, and adults everyday...we got some free smoothies!

This Hotel has some big pluses as well as some minuses.  The pluses are the location, it is right at the base of Heavenly for great ski in/ski out.  If you enjoy gambling you can walk down the block, it is also in walking distance to a few restaurants and grocery.  We rented a two bedroom suite, it came well stocked with a decent size kitchen, it also had two bathrooms.  The room is well decorated.  The biggest downside was the cost was quite high, I assume we paid peak prices, we went in mid March, I looked at the prices two weeks out and they are literally 1/2.  You also pay an exorbitant fee for valet parking, you have no other choice and if you sign up for ski lessons at the top of the Gondola you have to pay a lot to get to the lesson.  While we paid a lot we got a view of a parking lot and the room was on the dark side.  Marriott Gold/Silver members don't receive any perks.  If we did not pay so much I might have given the hotel 4 stars due to the nice size rooms and convenience to so many activities but the prices were so high.  I would consider staying again but would try to find a better deal.

We've been Marriott Vacation Club timeshare owners(Platinum status) for 15+ years, primary ownership: Palm Desert Shadow Ridge and Maui Ocean Villas. Through the owner exchange program we've stayed at numerous other Vacation Clubs, from Newport Beach, CA to Orlando, FL, and beyond. We had some extra points to burn this year so we headed up for a 4 day stay. While I can see this property's appeal for the winter sports folk, for our summer visit ( July 29-Aug 3) we just didn't fall in love with the resort.

Our assigned 2 BR was in the back of the Alpine Building (7422/7424), 4th floor, overlooking a driveway and some back property. If we craned our necks up, we could see the tips of mountains. The condo had some serious light deprivation. When I asked to be moved to another location my request was denied. Normally MVC will fall all over themselves to accommodate their owners - this manager could not have cared less. The living area of these units are by far the smallest we've ever seen. Our unit had no sun after about 10 AM leaving it darkish and requiring lights on during the day; so try to get a unit with western exposure if you can. Unit windows have no screens, and only open about 6 inches. Unless you have the A/C cranked to frigid so it blows all the time, good air circulation is impossible. Perhaps another nod to this as a winter destination property, only a handful of units have balconies. This was a big deal to us - as you must leave your unit AND your building for a bit of fresh air, forget lingering on your balcony for a glass of wine. Every Marriott Vacation Club we have EVER stayed at has outdoor barbecues. Not here, leaving you to attempt broiling or frying meat in crappy frying pans, and frankly, the smell and mess in the kitchen isn't worth the hassle. Kitchen amenities need to be updated, and this is supposed to be in process. Be aware, recent mattress replacements in the units have people howling. They are rock hard, were a problem for me with 2 hip replacements, and my first night was agonizing. Front desk advised that there aren't enough 4" memory foam pads to keep up with complaints; but they did accommodate by exchanging one of the older, softer mattresses for the slab in our room resulting in heavenly sleep thereafter.

As for the pool area, the pool is cold, poolside service is spotty so plan to bring your cooler down for food/drinks. I have raised my kids, and I am generally tolerant of young families - but the level of noise and disruption from unsupervised little kids in the pool is annoying. Parents have no problem with their little kids doing cannonballs in the hot tubs where adults avoiding the horse play in the pool are trying to converse and relax, so strategical placement of your lounge chairs is necessary if you don't want to be driven nuts

On the up side - the property is is well maintained, and keeping with the Marriott Vacation Club model, units are well decorated. It is rock throwing distance to state-line casinos, has access to a private (albeit crowded) beach with boat/jet ski/kayak/paddle boat rentals, umbrella/beach chair rentals, and a restaurant. There are lots of places to rent bikes, para-sail and what have you, and our adult kids loved that. Good restaurants dot Lake Tahoe Boulevard in So Tahoe, so check Yelp for dining suggestions.

Not saying Timber Lodge is a bad place? It just wasn't our place.

Best time EVER!!! This place is awesome. We stayed in a one bedroom villa. This had a full kitchen, washer-dryer. There's a heated pool, a kids club. The staff is friendly & the room was immaculate. You're steps from restaurants, the gondola, there's a movie theater within walking distance, Raley's and and not too far from one of my favorite beaches- "Pope Beach". Stay here when you come to Tahoe, you won't be disappointed.

I LOVED the villa we stayed in!  I loved how there was a washer/dryer in the room and our master suite had a jetted tub... The villas were really nice and clean and I couldn't have asked for a better location!

The shops at Heavenly were nice and you can even go to the movies there.  There is a Raley's that takes about 5 minutes to get to, which is so convenient!

The Gondolas are literally right outside, which makes this super convenient.  At check in, they give you a ticket for their private beach and you can go relax at the Lake.  Everything you can imagine is within walking distance and if you want to gamble, Harrah's is a short 5 minute walk as well.

One thing I would do is park at harrah's and walk over.  They charge about $25/day for valet, and we never drove anywhere since everything was in walking distance.  This is the most awesome place to stay in SLT!

The Timber Lodge Marriott is an oasis of respectability on a strip of cheap ski motels and casinos. It sits almost right on the border between California and Nevada. Walk to the left, and you get sports shops, liquor stores, and motels; walk to the right, and you meet with casinos and cheap breakfasts.

We stayed at Timber Lodge--which is right at the foot of Heavenly--during the off-season. The location is perfect during the winter. Off-season, unless you like to gamble (which I don't), South Lake Tahoe isn't the best area in Tahoe to visit. We did, however, get a really good deal on the room. The hotel is really nice; they seem to have all sorts of great activities and amenities that we didn't take advantage of. The room was clean and attractive. The beds, as other people have mentioned, were ridiculously comfortable.

The beds were so comfortable that it seemed impossible to make the 10 am checkout time--that seems really early for checkout to me, but I guess Timber Lodge operates on skiiers' time. We asked the night before for late checkout, but they said they offered only limited "first-come, first-serve" late checkouts starting at 7am. So, we set the alarm for 7 am and called the front desk and then were allowed to check out at 11. That's kind of a strange process, but, at the same time, they were very accommodating when we arrived early for check-in.

One slight negative is parking. You can pay $20 for valet parking or park for free at Harrah's a block or so away. The Marriott actually tells people upfront about the free option, which I appreciate.

My family and I spent the 4th of July weekend at Marriott Timber Lodge and all I can say is beware of this hotel. Where do I start?

1. Valet staff employee tells my wife to "stop bitching!" when questioned why no-one notified her that car was ready and waiting (out of site). Young man is lucky I was not within earshot or I would have "parked" him on pavement. No excuse for a hotel employee to mouth off regardless of how busy they may have been.

2. No, there is no wooden roller coaster on the ceiling. That is the AC working.

3. "Family Friendly" should not equate to kids run amok! Pool policy allows over indulgent mothers to plop little 12 month old Johnny into one hot tub after another (there are 3) with diapers on. But it's ok because they are "pool diapers". Also encountered pre-teens practicing their backstroke in our hot tub and dumping their pineapple drink in another tub. This happened at 10:00 at night! Regarding saftey of "pool diapers" Marriott needs to educate themselves on this (here are a couple of helpful links that cover what an unhealthy practice this is).

cdc.gov/healthywater/swi…

"Swim Diapers & Swim Pants
The use of swim diapers and swim pants might give users, parents, and pool staff a false sense of security regarding fecal contamination."

mayoclinic.com/health/ch…

"Can babies or toddlers wear diapers in the water?

Various types of diapers are designed for underwater use. They're water-repellent and fit snugly around a child's thighs and waist, but they're not waterproof. If your child has a bowel movement in the water, fecal material may escape the diaper. A dirty diaper might contain diarrhea-causing germs, including the parasite cryptosporidium -- which can contaminate pool water or other swimming areas. In otherwise healthy people, a cryptosporidium infection causes upset stomach and diarrhea."

We confronted the front desk manager (Andrew Jansen) regarding the situation at the pool and we were met by indifference and a smirk when we said the hotel should review it's pool policy.

4. Lastly, this is a TIME SHARE ESTABLISHMENT which means that everyone else will get squeezed into whatever little corner of the hotel is available.

Great place to stay when you are visiting South Lake Tahoe if you want to snowboard/ski or see the snow! The greatest part is that it is in the middle of everything--food, shops and the Heavenly Gondola to take you up the snow! You can walk around to a lot of restaurants, shops, even the movie theater!

The rooms are nice and service is great. Front desk and the concierge are always accommodating. I love that it comes with a kitchen, stocked with all the pots and pans you need. You can even bake or use the tupperware. Raleys is in the next plaza. There are many things to do around the area for the family or couples who want to get away.  For families who have kids, walk down to the casinos for the arcades! Harrahs had the best arcade.

Sidenote: The Wifi is pretty crappy sometimes. Some days it is okay but some days it doesn't work at all but, its vacation, so who needs internet!

No time share pressure.
Very friendly staff.
Great WiFi.
Good showers.
Good bedding.

Other amenities including the hot tubs, fitness center, pools, etc are all very nice here.

I would definitely stay here again... the location is hard to beat... all you need is within a mile, or even right in the village itself.

The only gotcha is the $24 nightly parking fee... which seems to be standard in SLT... but there is not charge if you are stay on your ownership week.  : )

Used accumulated points to stay a few nights here.  First, don't pay $26 to park your car per night.  Just park out back of the old Embassy Suites and walk over - ask for a room at the back (Alpine building) and it won't be much of a hike.  Might be more treacherous in the snow but...to save me $100 I would do it.  The rooms are nice enough.  The king room has a mini fridge, microwave and sink but the room set up is so narrow, you can't really get comfortable and watch TV and you definitely couldn't cook up anything good - but you could keep some sodas, cheese and crackers if you wanted.  They also have 'activities' because this is resort living but I thought it was kind of bogus that you had to pay if you wanted to participate in some of the activities...odd.  Upon checkout (they didn't have the checkout folio on the TV like most hotels do) I found they had charged me for 2 nights of valet that I didn't use.  They couldn't adjust it right then because a manager had to do it but they said they would call me and email me the receipt when the credit was done - they did call, still no receipt so I'll have to check my Visa statement to be sure - however, the people that work there were all nice and helpful.

If I could give negative a million I would! We used the valet (we live here) we were visiting our if town guests one who is a gm for a Orlando Marriott. Well they ran my big bright blue mega cab truck that just got a new paint job down their yellow poles. So now my beautiful truck is yellow down the side of my truck. So we told them they said "it's not on our cameras and just because our paint is on your truck and your paint is on our pole doesn't prove anything get a lawyer". Marriott! So I'm a disabled veteran can't afford a lawyer they knew that.

Great Resort! Well kept, clean rooms, attentive staff and yes free wifi  Pool area is nice, wish it was deeper than 3.5 ft all around.

Very close to activities: casino's, grocery, bike rentals, the Heavenly gondolla lift, speed boat and jet ski rentals.

They have live chefs in their restaurant preparing your food Mongolian style with some acrobatic shows. Fire at night at outdoor bar. I recommend to stay at least two or three nights.

Parking is valet only 26/night with no restrictions. Kind of expensive but no other options.

Overall 3 star.

Has anyone else gotten a weird sense of vertigo or dizziness in the hallways? Or felt like the floor in the waiting area for the elevator was about to give way? Walking through the hotel was a trip - literally. Woooo next time I'll remember to bring Dramamine.

Hunter S. Thompson experience aside, the hotel is lovely. Rooms seem recently updated and are fairly spacious. Within walking distance of the casinos, but still on the California side so you don't have to worry about your room reeking of cigarette smoke.

Me and seven other of my friends came to SLT for one of our friend's birthdays. The valet service was very efficient and you can tell the guys work very hard (the look on their faces was obvious). The lobby was the picture of ski lodge with huge comfy seats and a fireplace. Water with lemon was available for the guests and visitors, and every desk and area had a label.

The rooms left me speechless. We booked two rooms that connected. The main suite had two master bedrooms, two baths, kitchen, dining room, living room, and (fake) fireplace. The beds were heaven for me because I sleep on a dinky Ikea mattress at home. The pillows were perfection and the blankets were so soft and warm. I just the love the convenience of having an apartment feeling hotel room.

If I had the money I would love to stay here again for another weekend getaway....too bad the town is kind of boring.

Excellent customer service- from the front desk that was very friendly and helpful during check-in to Ron from Loss Prevention just walking by and starting a little chitchat to see how my stay was going.

Valet is $24 a day, self serve parking is not available. The hotel was at 100% occupancy and we were advised to call in about 5-10 mins before we needed the car and we never had a problem with valet.

Most importantly, the room was quite impressive. Kitchen, washer, dryer, jacuzzi bath tub, living room, dining room and the master room- ALL CLEAN.

Located just a block away from Harvey's and Harrahs, and plenty of shops and restaurants within walking distance- very convenient!

Normally, I am very impressed with the marriott family of hotels.  I've stayed from the courtyard to the Ritz Carlton.  I was a little disappointed with Timberlodge.  This rating is solely on the experience and not the property.  The property itself is outstanding, the staff-not the usually super customer service staff.
So I drove up to Tahoe from the Bay Area we arrived a little early around 230 pm, I know the reservation states that room won't be ready til 4 pm, so we drove around to the lake and spent some time there and ate an afternoon snack, I come back to the lodge around 4 pm, room is still not ready, all the front desk could say, "We'll call you when it's ready."  At this point, my 3 yr old and 5 yr old and my mother is a bit tired from the 4 hr drive and needing to rest up a bit before we go out.  At  around, 440 pm our room was finally ready.
No apology was ever given for not having the room ready for us.  Who knows, mayve they were having an off day.  This is an honest review, I would definitely stay there again.

Stayed here recently for our anniversary. I was on crutches due to an injury. The young lady at the desk hooked us up with a room close to the elevators making it easier for me.
The rooms are great. Little villas basically. Enough shopping within walking distance to cook for yourself, In the heart of Heavenly Village, lots of things to do even if you don't ski/snowboard. Valet guys are fast and friendly. Always something going on in the lobby. Wine tasting, lemonade/iced too, hot cocoa, waffle stations.
Definitely the only place I will stay at in Tahoe.

The rooms are clean and secure.  The staff was friendly.  I agree that the late check-out policy is lame.  This is a very family friendly place so if kids annoy you then maybe you should stay somewhere else.  My favorite thing about this place was coming down to check-out on the morning of Cinco De Mayo and seeing an extremely white-bred employee standing at a fold up table with a sombrero on giving away shots of Tequila at 10 am.  Good stuff.

We stayed there for the weekend - but were not too happy. They gave us a room which has a sink, Dishwasher and Microwave (is that really a Kitchen ?)

I asked if they could send Tea bags - which they said no and one would have to go to their store and buy it as they provided only on complimentary coffee bag for the stay.
Being a Marriott Platinum member - this was really bad service in all my years staying at any Marriott location.

$26 for Valet Parking is mandatory as there is no street or nearby parking.

We attended the wine socials - the sample of wine was served in small plastic 20 ML cups (same as what you get with NyQuil or hospital medicine) - this was really cheap display at any Marriott location.
Rooms were nice and it is centrally located - but next time I would take the Embassy Suites

Valet service terrible. Had car parked on No Parking hatchmarks area next to handicap parking, making handicap spot unusable. Had to park on the street at extra cost. Manager of valet service said she doesn't care that this is illegal. Extremely bad service, not worthy of Marriott.

4.5 stars this year, rounded up to 5.  I am a timeshare owner and go once a year.  Just came back from a week up in Tahoe.

Parking is by a valet service.  Those guys and gals hustle, and when you call down, your car is usually ready by the time you get to the entrance.  For owners, there is no parking fee, and this valet service is the best I have experienced.  For non-owners, I understand the daily rate is high.

Heavenly's gondola is right next to the property with many shops and restaurants.  Raley's is a walk across the street for food.  There is a movie theater in the complex right next door.  Casinos are one block away.

Our room is a two bedroom suite.  Full kitchen, living room with flat screen TV.  Master bath is large and has full jacuzzi tub.  2nd bedroom is a full king size bed but smaller with minimal kitchen set up and smaller bath.  Very nice and clean. Unit has washer and dryer.

Two issues this year:

1. The appliances in the kitchen are getting old and need replaced.  We had trouble with our dishwasher and had to call for service.

2.  There are no outdoor bbq grills.  You have to cook your steaks/chops on the stove or in the oven.  Most other Marriott resorts have outdoor bbq grills.  Attn: Marriott management: can you put 3-4 grills out in the pool area?

Overall, another great stay.

This was one of the best hotel experiences I've ever had.  Wonderful location, fantastic room, and GREAT service!

Everyone from the valet to the front desk and concierge desk workers were cheerful, polite and very helpful!

Word to the wise - valet parking is your only option at the hotel, and at 26 bucks a night, it is NOT worth it!

Harvey's and Harrah's are literally a 4 minute walk away, and have FREE 24-hour parking!

Other than the outrageous valet parking price at the hotel, it was seriously an amazing stay and I look forward to coming back again.

The hotel itself was OK, not great, but OK. However, their policies are annoying and made the trip less than enjoyable.

It's convenient, just steps from the gondola which is great, and you can definitely expect to pay a premium for this which I gladly did. I booked on expedia and "taxes and fees" added 15% of the room cost (which is more than the room tax), so I assume either Marriott or expedia is pocketing extra "fees" and they don't disclose what those are. Maybe if you book direct you don't get those extra fees (just speculating) and as I learned too late...if you book through expedia or any means other than direct, you don't get marriott points. That's buried in the fine print which I apparently missed.

Then there's the marriott's annoying policies:
- Forced valet parking, which I just don't like in principle because it wastes time while you have to wait for your car, you take a chance with theft (for which they deny all responsibility even though they force you to do it), and you can't go to your car if you forgot something, you have to call valet for them to bring the car down so you can get something out of it. Again, just a lot of inconvenience and wasted time.

- $26/ night parking charge. Exorbitant of course, especially considering that other places in town have free parking.

- Check in at 4pm and out at 10am. I remember when noon check in/out was pretty standard. This reducing of hours in your room is a bad trend in hotels. If this continues soon we'll only be able to check in after midnight and out by 6am?

- No late check out. Period. I asked...you make me check out at 10am and no one can check in until 4pm. You need 6 hours to clean a room? He says it takes 2.5 hours to clean my small room. BS-I could do it myself in 30 minutes tops. A pro should be even faster. If they're truly cleaning some rooms until 4pm then they could easily clean another room while I stayed in mine for an extra hour. I saw how they operate while I was there--they're not swarming every room cleaning them as soon as checkout time comes...there's only a few ladies cleaning one room at a time. So the point is that they could have allowed a late checkout, they just chose not to.

- I left clothing in my room at checkout and called that night to get it back. First, after a week they had not returned my call so I called back. Lost and found says that it didn't get turned in so I guess housekeeping got themselves some new clothes at my expense. Obviously it's my mistake for forgetting, but it's sad and dishonest that housekeeping keeps your stuff and doesn't turn it in to lost and found.

- Bell desk/parking is a completely separate and outsourced company from marriott which leads to some annoying issues. Such as if you stay up on the mountain bar/restaurant for apres ski, when you get back down to the marriott their ski valet will be closed. If you ask the front desk what to do with your skis (which they do not allow in the rooms) they'll say you can ask the bell desk if they can hold them for you, but the hotel themselves will do nothing. (Basically you're on your own.) We had a similar issue with the late checkout issue--we had a lunch reservation about 1.5 hours after checkout time so since the hotel wouldn't give us late checkout, we asked if we could at least check out but leave the car parked there an extra hour so we could walk around town and kill time until it was time for us to drive to our lunch appointment. Again, they said, well we can't help you but you can ask the bell desk to see if they can do anything for you. Luckily the bell desk re-parked our car after checkout, but they warned us that if we left it there past noon there would be another $26 daily valet charge. Ahh, customer service. Seriously, I've been in hotels around the world and I've never ever seen a place where the bell desk and hotel are completely separate, unconnected, and uncoordinated. It's just stupid and annoying to the guests.

The hotel rooms themselves were just OK. Definitely better than a motel 6, but not as good a hyatt, sheraton, or other marriott's I've stayed at and definitely NOT even close to high end like a ritz-carlton or four seasons.

But again, if you accept that you're mainly paying to be right next to the gondola then you'll be ok. If you expect much more than that you'll probably be disappointed.

Overall this is my impression of the hotel management, staff, and service...it's very superficial and only skin deep. They're all smiles and cheerful and are really friendly on the surface, but when you really ask or need something then their true colors show. You'll get a "no" more often than not. I don't blame this on the staff themselves--they all seemed like nice enough people. I'm sure they're just following corporate policies and those are policies which are designed to *appear* helpful and service oriented. But when true service is asked for then you'll see that their "service" is only an illusion.

I won't be back.

Very nice hotel.  Full kitchen and also washer and driver.  Might have been a recent remodel because everything in the room was pretty new or of new style.  Price was very good for a one bedroom during Thanksgiving weekend.

Gondola to the top of the mountain was right outside and totally convenient not only that but they had ski valet between getting off the gondola and back into the hotel.  Very cool.

Many activities for kids, teens and adults at the hotel.

One star off for check-out time at 10am.  At 9:30am there was no trolleys insight and had to wait after 10am.  Valet parking only at $26 a night?

I will visit again next year most likely.

For a Marriott Vacations Resort, I was expecting a little bit more than I had received. When I was driving searching for it through beautiful Lake Tahoe, the sign was not visible. Hidden in Heavenly which is absolutely gorgeous! and a wonderful location! lies the Timber Lodge. It was like walking into an oversized Cabin, which is basically what it was. It was very welcoming.

But when I got to the Valet, they were unorganized. No one approached the car, no one asked me to pull up more even after the next guest's vehicle was off the porte coche. So I pulled up myself. Still, no one approached the car. I had to get OUT of the car in VALET in the middle of the porte coche and tell one of the VALET I was uh. VALETING THE CAR and checking in. Then he told me to pull up behind a Ford Black truck straight ahead. I waited in the car for 5 minutes. Still, no one approached it. No Valet. So I GOT OUT OF THE CAR FOR A SECOND TIME IN VALET, TOOK MY OWN BAGS WITH ME OUT OF THE CAR. I approached the Valet podium and another guest was already yelling at another valet person because he was overcharged for his parking fee. ($27 overnight) The valet at the podium looked at me waiting for me to speak. No greeting. No Good morning. No welcome to the Marriott Timber Lodge. Interesting.... I told him another guy asked me to pull up behind the Ford truck and he said ok. I handed him my keys. No telling me where the front desk was. No asking me if I needed assistance with my luggage. Just OK. There were only 3 valet on the Drive for a property that was full of families on vacation. They were backed up. Be better staffed please. I encountered two other guests complaining upon arrival.

When I got to the Front Desk, Joseph was very pleasant. Maps were given upon check in and he took his time.

My room was quiet and cozy. Interior facing so I could sleep better. The rooms are spacious enough and the security of the doors I'm very impressed by. The keys are magnetic. WIth just a tap, they let you into your room. Everything is secured.

The pamphlet given gave an immense amount of activities to do in North Lake Tahoe. The location inside Heavenly is gorgeous. The gondolas to the lifts are steps away.

But the Concierge wasn't fully staffed either. Only one was on duty, again when the hotel was full of families. She was busy on the phone that kept on ringing, and had a line of tourists who wanted information. Some got frustrated and diverted to the Front Desk. Or gave up and walked away out the lovely doors of Heavenly. I was lounging in the lobby, cozying with a beautiful stone fire pit. It was a shame to see. She seemed overwhelmed. Out of the multiple times I stepped out into the Lobby, the Concierge was hardly there. How in the world do you assist your guests? If not fully staffed?

Also, I encountered someone from the Guest Relations Team. She was trying to get into my hallway which was locked and you needed a specific key to get in. She had a lovely movie gift basket in her hand for a family. I asked her if she needed to get in she said yes, (of course) I let her in and complimented on the Gift Basket. She didn't seem to pay attention. I asked her where her Master Key was to get into the floors and she said she forgot it, that she was just in a rush to get this amenity delivered. Then she sprinted down the hallway.

Even the operator stated it would be 20 minutes to bring up my vehicle! When I knew their garage was just right behind. A good tweak was a business card that said "text this number if you'd like your car brought up."

Marriott Timber Lodge is a gorgeous property. I would send anyone here who did not want guest service. ;) Please staff accordingly. I could see it everywhere, the staff seemed overwhelmed, & therefore, unorganized. But such a beautiful property, please make it better so I can rate it higher.

this hotel was the best i've ever been to! We had the bedroom villa. it was a lot bigger than i thought it was gonna be. i actually didnt know it was going to be a 2 bedroom villa. there were 2 bedrooms and bathrooms and everything was spotless clean!

Pros:
1. they provide paper towels in the kitchen, sponge and soap to wash dishes, detergent if u wanna wash do laundry, and plenty of towels for the kitchen and bathrooms.

2. we had the corner room: 7218. i was told it was bigger than their other bedroom villas since it was on the corner of the building.

3. comfy beds!!  they seem pretty stiff at first but once u lay down, you'll knock out!

4. they have so many activities to do in the hotel. like wine/chocolate tasting for very cheap like $5. since you stay at their hotel, you get so many discounts to the local eateries and shops and even free stuff! like free wine tastings at other locations and discounts on your meals at certain restaurants.

5. YOU CAN CHECK OUT AT 12 PM!!!! Just let them know that you want to check out at a later date instead of their usual 10 am. They were nice enough to give me that offer.

CON:
1. Valet parking sucks. Since i heard of this $26 daily charge, i parked at harverys casino. HERES THE THING: Since we had luggage, we had to carry our things to the hotel from the casino parking lot. it is like a block away but its a pain in the ass when youre carrying 2 douffle bags, jackets, backpacks, and laptop and things like that.

2. since we parked at harveys, the day we checked out, we loaded up our luggage by bringing the car and parking on the side of the hotel building and then drove up to the front where valet was so that i could run in really quick to check out, but the valet dudes said he couldnt stay to park even though i was checking out (less that 10 min).

3. we were cooking and knew they'd have salt/pepper in the room. for some reason we only had pepper and was missing the salt, so i had to call customer service to bring it to our room. took 20 minutes but at least we got the salt!

4. i requested a high floor when i called in for our reservation. i found out the lady who took my request never wrote it down on the computer so the receptionist had no idea and gave me the ground level instead. SIGH!

PARKING TIP!!
Park at the Raleys parking lot right next door! it's closer than Harveys and has a lot more parking spots available! and its free!!

We just returned from staying here and had a wonderful time. It was super relaxing with many great activities if you wanted to do them. Its a beautiful place in a good location. The staff was so friendly and helpful. We asked to be moved to a quieter room and they were more than accomodating. The management there was super and very attentive to our needs. There is quite a variety of activities for adults and families. We loved the Mojitos 101 class! Valet always had our car ready in minutes and asked if we needed directions, every time we picked up the car. The concierge was sweet as can be. The employees there seem to really like what they do. We also got discounts and coupons for all kinds of places nearby. INCREDIBLE place to stay.

I have mixed feelings about this hotel. However, at promotional rate of $101 a night (pre-tax), this is a great choice for vacationers and business-goers. Most amenities are standard for a Marriott hotel, clean and comfortable beds, flat screen TV, thick curtains, well-maintained property, but my room on the fifth floor is possibly the smallest room I have ever stayed at in a Marriott property.

The things I really liked:
- The pool: outdoors but it's big, heated, and clean! There are four small whirlpools on the side which I loved as most likely you won't have to share a hot tub with strangers and have to stare awkwardly away from their faces...
- Friendly service: Everyone from the valet to the front desk is super friendly and helpful.
- HUGE fitness center: it is one of the biggest fitness centers I have ever seen at a hotel (albeit this is a vacation home sort of property). Even though I didn't use it (lazy), I was impressed.

Things I didn't care for:
- Mandatory valet: yes I know it's South Lake Tahoe, but really? $24 Mandatory valet? Is that really necessary? At least they pay their valet minimal wage (I asked as I was curious). Still, the valet + tip amounted to a significant increase to the daily rate.
- Lack of breakfast options: I'm not looking for free breakfast as i know only the Springhill Suites and Residence Inns in the Marriott family have complimentary meals for sure. However, I was disappointed by having to walk to the nearby strip mall for breakfast. Even though the walk is short, this is pretty inconvenient when I'm already on a time crunch.

Overall, this is a great place to stay if you are ok with the mandatory valet.

We have stayed here a couple of times and every experience has been outstanding. I do agree with the other yelpers that it very expensive if you book through them and not though red week or private persons timeshare. Location is awesome! Close and in walking distances to everything. Casinos, Store, Gondola, Restaurants, Ice Skating, Trampoline Jumping, and Shopping all right outside the doors. The lake is about a 5-10 min walk. The rooms are very nice and newer than many other places in Tahoe. The walk ways are heated outside and the spa and pool are year around and very nicely heated. Definitely a great family resort.

Great location- foot steps away from the gondola and walking distance to the shops and restaurants. We rented a car and only used it to drive to and from the airport but everything else was walking distance. I really liked that we were able to walk to the grocery store since we had a full kitchen in our 1-bedroom villa.

The staff was friendly. The front desk and valet were very accommodating. A little annoyed with the daily calls and voicemails to sit in on a timeshare meeting.

Although I didn't take advantage of this while I was there, I liked that they offered daily activities from wine tasting to arts and crafts. (Fee)

I loved their fitness center- all the cardio equipment had their own tvs, complimentary head phones and towels provided.

The pool and hot tubs were great after a long day of snowboarding.

Free wifi.

I'll definitely book here again the next time I'm back in South Lake Tahoe for some skiing and snowboarding.

I'm laying here listening to the conversation taking place in the room next to me and understanding some of what is being said.  The walls here are ridiculously thin.  I have given up reading which is my favorite leisure activity because of the noise next door and have turned on the TV instead.

Nice property but a few misses. Extended our stay additional days and each time they threatened we had to MOVE ROOMS in the hotel with vacancy. It's a bit crazy making to get a call each morning after booking the extended stay and asking us to cancel and rebook at more money so we can stay in our SMALLer room. Just downgraded to 3 stars. Front desk is a bit challenged by their own hospitality policies. Terminally thin doors that adjoin rooms. Granted they were loud talkers but we could hear our neighbors forks scrape their plates at 6am. We are late sleepers so weren't thrilled. Feels a bit sterile and the restaurant closes early. No loss it seemed less than appealing and there are other options very close. Check out is 10 am. Rather early. Kitchenette with grocery store across the street and gondola right next door was great. We would probably look for a cozier property next time.

The customer service at this hotel is hands down the worst of all the Marriott hotels i've ever stayed. Mike Sprunt, the service manager at this hotel, is rude, unsympathetic, and has no capability/sophistication to run a 4-star hotel. If I compare the customer service to that at Motel 6, I would be insulting Motel 6.

I called the front desk simply to ask a simple question. But I was put on hold for 25mins. I hang up and called back to see what's going on but only to learn that they forgot about me. I was put on hold again for another 20mins. After sharing my frustration with the agent, I finally was transferred to speak to Mike the manager. My wife and I were shocked why a 4-star hotel would employ such a rude person. He has no business being in the hospitality industry. Marriott, I truly believe you can hire better people.

The location is really central to everything. The room was big size but kind of an awkward space with a 6 person dining table in the living room when it was only a one bedroom. The valet service at $26/day wasn't good. Cars took longer than the 10 minutes promised. Also, when we retrieved our car when we checked out, I noticed a generic key chain with the car key. My Tiffany silver key chain was not there and nor were all my other keys. I went back to the valet and told him. He pulled out a drawer and said oh here it is, it fell off the chain. I had to ask for that? No apology. Also, the housekeeping didn't show up one day. I called at 4:00 to complain and they sent someone. They didn't clean the toilet or the sinks. Not impressed.

So much to love about this place... my lover (at the time) was a timeshare owner here so we had the privilege of coming a few times within the past couple of years.

This place is conveniently located next to the Heavenly gondola. There are so many places to eat around here that are walking distance. Love how the Casino's are very close by as well (on Nevada side).

Staff is always very polite here. Very helpful with checking in and always ask if we need a hand. Rooms look and ARE very clean. Guests can always rely that housecleaning will get the job done when you're out.

I love that this Marriott always has activities for guests posted everywhere with times schedules. They usually have wine tasting on Sunday's in the lobby which is fabulous!!

The only thing I don't like about this place is that they don't have their own parking garage :( all is valet service. But don't get me wrong, their valet staff does a great job having the car ready in time and whatnot.

Highly recommend!

Gorgeous luxury hotel. Room is very clean. The amenities are top notch. It's right next to Heavenly plaza which is awesome! There are many shops and restaurants to enjoy before & after ice skating & ski/snowboarding. We usually rent a cabin but due to lack of availability we decided to stay in a hotel instead, and among all the hotels here in South Lake Tahoe, Marriott caught our attention (no brainer!) and we can't be any more happier staying here! It's family friendly--with a 7 year old & a 2 month old this is the perfect hotel--cozy and lots of fun things to do!

Any hotel that cannot accommodate a late checkout for someone that has a work commitment doesn't really deserve more than one star.

This place is fine... It has a comfortable bed, and a good location.  They call your phone and leave a message in the morning and evening telling you what activities are available for the day... even if you call and request that they stop leaving the messages, they keep leaving them.

There is a ski village atmosphere with concerts at night outside a really nice pizza place.  It was hard to find a place for a nice quiet dinner.  The kitchen and amenities of the hotel room are nice to use, though.

For someone here on business, I was expecting the usual Marriott flare of customer service and attention to a businessman's needs.  I was met with horrible internet service, and the worst AT&T signals I have ever had.

My family and I enjoyed a nice weekend here in a 1-bedroom condo. The hotel itself is beautiful, right dead smack in the middle of all the shops and literally steps away from the casinos. The hotel staff was very nice and helpful. I didn't care for the $26 valet parking fee but it was better than parking the car at some random spot and having to walk to where ever whenever we needed something from the car, plus with a 6 and 3 yr old convenience is a must, especially when one forgets their special blankey in the car and MUST have it at 11pm.

The hotel has many activities for families/couples. My daughter enjoyed the cub den where she got to color and watch a movie, fully supervised! The pool was nice, I liked that they had a baby pool that was the perfect depth for my 3 yr old to sit in w/out me having to constantly be at his side. Our room upon check in was very clean - the hotel was newly renovated back in November, you can tell the job was done quickly, some of the molding in our room looked like my 6 yr old had done it. But honestly, who spends that much time in their room? I did enjoy the granite counter tops and the stainless steel fridge and washer/dryer. It was nice going home w/ all clean clothes :) The full kitchen had pretty much everything you could ask for, I couldn't seem to find a cutting board but I may have simply overlooked it. I think my only complaint about this place was how far the elevators seemed to be. Our room was right next to an elevator, but when you go down to the lobby it's a fairly long walk to the lobby. On the flip side we could have skipped the elevator that was right next to our room and walked to the other elevator across the hotel in order to be at the closer elevator in the lobby. Either way we were walking a distance. Other than that it's the perfect place for families and I look forward to coming back soon.

Hotel highlights:

Service: A very friendly and accommodating staff, especially Dotty.  Coffee and donuts in the morning in the lobby.  Snacks at check in. Wine in the lobby. Free shutterfly photo book. Wish I had time to take advantage of the activities- yoga, olive oil tasting, etc

Room: I stayed in a guest room and it was spacious with a small kitchenette.  There was also a sofa with a pull out bed.

Concierge: very helpful with recommendations and even gave me balloons to help celebrate.

Location: it's perfect because you are close enough to drive to a few locations to hike or go to the beach but also walking distance to restaurants and casinos.

The only downside of my stay was that the pool was under renovation so we had to walk across the way to the Grand Residence. It isn't a far walk but the pool was more crowded than I expected since guests from both the Grand Residence & Timber Lodge were using it.

Awesome.  The only downside are the kids.

The facility is insanely well maintained, with a great staff.  I believe they must even require contractors to stop work and greet guests nearby, whenever able.

Being someone that knows that time-shares can be a horrible investment that can virtually never be fairly transferred after purchase;  this stay at Timber Lodge almost makes me want to buy a time-share!

From management to house-keepers, the service was exceptional.  The guys in Valet were also attentive and professional.

Having said that, be prepared for a lot of kids!  It almost reminded me of Disney land or similar.

However, you're within a 5 minute walk from the Nevada casinos (Harrahs, Harveys, and Mont Bleu are especially close).  And you are right on top of the Heavenly gondola.  Starbucks and Raleys shopping center are also within a 3 minute walk!!

 Very great.

Our visit was without blemish and there were lots of instances of the staff "going the extra mile."  We got enthusiastic assistance from the concierge when needed, our repeated use of the car from valet was without issue, the front desk staff was great about giving us access to the locker rooms when we arrived quite early and again when we left late (and they happily stored our bags), the room was in great shape and cleaned well, the gym itself is pretty impressive, the Kids Club looked cute, WiFi was free for guests, there were four different hot tubs (all different temperatures, take your pick), the clientele in the hotel was predominantly families/professionals.  The location is so convenient, next to the Gondolas, it really makes the experience an extra special one.

I was going to give this place 5-stars but in hindsight that ain't possible.  Every way I look at it - I see kids.  Loads of kids.  Definitely, a clandestine sight for parents to drop off their kids while they do sinfully wicked things at the casinos.  Kids in the pool; kids in the jacuzzi; kids, kids, kids.  I thought I was beside a den of sin, win, and gin.  Instead I'm at a place with kids, dids, and vids.  I'm not hating on the little boogers again am I...I don't mean to.  I blame myself for not getting a comped room at Harrahs.  Sure, I could have paid for a room there but the enticement of staying at a hotel I've never been in got the best of me.

First off $26j/pd for valet at this establishment.  With tip, a minimum of $36/pd.  Dang!  It's free for me at the casino parlors, yo.  No matter, we're not going to need the car.  You gotta like the keyless cards they have for the rooms though.  Just wave near the door and your in...great if you're having trouble finding things in your pocket after a good night.  Great pool despite the seniors hogging it in the morning to do their pool exercises.  The pool is only 4ft deep but it gets the job done, especially when you're hungover.  I'd like to think the hotel was thinking about their degenerate patrons when deciding the pool's depth but a little piece of me believes it was for the kiddies safety.  A little!  There's even a 1 foot deep pool for babies, wow!

Most of the staff I thought was wishy-washy.  Kinda blah.  Too indifferent for an indifferent kinda guy.  I wished one of them could have changed my opinion, but alas they failed me.

The rooms are clean at least.  They've got a sofabed with a king room.  And, they've got plenty of amenities for living situations.  The hotel is next to the gondolas so it's perfect in the winter...that's about the highlight for me.  Starbucks, Jamba Juice, supermarkets, the casinos, etc. are just a trot away also.  The fact we were in South Lake Tahoe during the Celebrity Golf Tournament was awesome though.  Saw a few celebs...None of them, as far as I saw, were staying in this mini-Disney style hotel.  I'd think they'd know better...thicker walls, more sin, more gin, more...

Overall, I still like this hotel.  If you can afford to have them, you can afford to live with them (kids, that is), so go for it and stay here.  Just wish they had a jacuzzi for adults only.  All 4 of the jacuzzis were occupied by (yup, you guessed it)...

let me just say the moment i checked in I knew this was a good hotel, I choose this one due to all the good yelp reviews. I am very pleased with my 1 bedroom villa with the king size bed. I am on the fourth floor with a view of the pool. my only regret right now is that I am only staying one night. Celebrating my 12 year anniversary with a mini vacay to Tahoe.

the room is over 800 sq. ft, it has doors separating the bedroom from the living, full kitchen with regular size fridge & stove if u want to cook. Fireplace and couch, 2 flat screen tvs, large bathroom & shower, very nice tub. I will be returning to this hotel for sure.

The only reason I couldnt give 5 stars is because of the 10am check out. I am not happy with that, it should be 11am at the earliest, considering you check in at 4pm and then have to be done by 10am, not liking that, would be thrilled if they changed that.

Be smart & park somewhere else to avoid the $26 parking fee like I did. We parked at Harrahs which is really close.

by the way, so pleased I am writing this review while im still here in the room relaxing by the fireplace, love it!!!

Normally I would give a Marriott a higher score but this time reservations were made with no mention of the pool and spa's being under renovation.  Additionally we made reservations for a suite.  What we got was a hole in the wall room and a couch you had to crawl over to get to the 3 foot ledge to get to the window to adjust the curtains at night and in the morning... really?  The staff was great.  They had coffee and donut's each morning as an apology for the pool renovation with pictures of what you'll be missing if you don't come back.

A better location can't be found, as others have stated.  There's a $12.95 buffet two blocks north (20 - 45 min. wait time).  There are lots of shops and dinning locations in the open air mall on the Marriott south side.  If you hit it just right you can hear live bands on the mall around dinner time if you sit outside while eating.

There's a great place for kids in the open air mall with miniature golf, and bungee trampolines that were constantly busy to the cheers and laughter of kids as they jumped high into the air.

We've stayed at many Marriott's however this was our first time staying at the Timber Lodge. At the time we visited, they were doing major construction in the lobby and it was a bit disappointing that we were not able to sit and lounge about near the fireplace due to loud construction. It was also an eyesore to see ladders, tools scattered about, and half the lobby roped off right upon entering the lodge. Along with the lobby renovation, they are also updating the rooms. Our updated room was on the top floor with a nice view of the pool and hot tubs. Rooms are spacious with a full kitchen with cookware, washer/dryer, living area space with fireplace, bedroom, and bathroom. Note, since this is a timeshare resort, there is no room service available but there is an onsite restaurant and many others just steps away.

Here are a few of the pros and cons during our week long stay:

+Staff was always pleasant and helpful
+Rooms spacious, nicely decorated with stainless steel appliances
+Nice 24 hr workout room and heated pool
+Onsite bar
+Great location, walking distance from shopping, restaurants, casinos, and slopes
+Lobby level convenience supplies available

-Valet only ($26/day unless members). Our valet was included but it was still annoying
-Mattress was too firm
-Towels are rough
-Renovation to lobby was inconvenient
-Awkward bedroom layout
-WiFi a little slow and spotty

Overall, we had an awesome stay and would love to visit again after their hotel renovations are complete.

Checked in on a Friday evening for seven nights. I scored BC I traded my Desert Springs Marriott (Palm Desert CA) lock out unit and received a two bedroom at Timber lodge. The unit also included a full kitchen, living room, dinning area, jacuzzi tub and two bathrooms. The location is awesome due to that you're steps away from Harrah's and the Nevada Stateline. In addition, your within steps of heavenly mountain ski lifts, many retail shops, restaurants and a Raley's grocery store.

The valet parking service here is awesome which included in and out privileges, unfortunately for non Marriott owners or guests the fee is $24.00 daily. The property has a heated pool, restaurant, planned daily activities and a complete fitness center. If you're interested in taking a excursion many of the tours provide shuttle service within steps of of Timber Lodge and will save you the hassle of driving and parking fees.

The staff at Timber Lodge was friendly & helpful at the lobby and concierge desk. I would definitely recommend staying here and I'll return here next time I'm back in Lake Tahoe.

Such a cute hotel! I've stayed here twice and I'm happy with my rooms and its a big bonus having a kitchen, washer and dryer!!!

Today I had to check in to 1/2 of my room since I arrived early and iiiiffffff this was the only room available I would give this stay 1 star. The wall beams make it not so cozy and spacious but with the other half being available nearly 1 hour (still early check in, hooray!) Made me fall right back in love!

Nearby to everything in sight, cute day care activities! Lots of hot tubs...

Overall ill defiantly come back, this is what the Tahoe vibe should always be.... Service is super, everything is tidy and clean, beautiful lobby and super family friendly!

Staying here only means I'm on vacation so I'm going to go enjoy myself!

Btw they only offer valet!

So...are you thinking about buying or staying here?  You don't have to own but the rentals can be pricey.

I guess if you must own a timeshare, Marriott is a good one.  We bought ours in Phoenix.  Marriott has rather limited options for exchanging our timeshare with others on this side of the continent, a cluster of them in the So Cal area, and then there is this one.  All fee-free exchanges for us. They also partnership with Interval, so the choices do expand, but with fees of course. I heard that Marriott has no plans for expanding to new locations.

This trip was part of our Marriott to Marriott exchange.  We have never been to this resort in Lake Tahoe, so I figured Fall might be an interesting season (but don't pray for snow please). It was not so far away from home, just a 1-day's drive, if we wanted to push it.  A week is about all I can take, I get stir crazy, miss the dog, and miss the fam. So, a week it was.

You should know there may be some nickle and dimer charges added:

1. Mandatory Valet parking = $26/day (really!).  There are no free-for-all parking lots.  The fee fortunately is waived for the timeshare owners.  The ones who pay that ridiculous amount are those non-timeshare owners who rent.  Tips are encouraged.

2. Taxes and fees that run $4.50 per day.

Now, our particular room was situated in the back 40, or more like 355.  After dropping off our car with the valet, we had quite a walk.  First through the big main building, then outside to the pool area, then on to our building.   I would be pissed if it were snowing. Then into the elevator and finally, down a long, long hallway to our suite.

Mr. B counted his steps from the doorway of the second building to our room, that until he ran out of toes.  Yep.  That part equated to greater than 1 1/2 football fields.  We added in the walk through the lobby, and the long ramp, and the remainder of the first building, and the open air walkway.  Another whole football field and a half.  That is a long haul when your arms are full and you are pushing a cart with your suitcases and all the other ridiculous stuff you think you need to have that "complete" vacation.

Ok.  So Marriott is dedicated to keeping you in shape, or getting you in shape, at high altitudes. Puff, puff.

No balconies, the only way we could check the weather or enjoy a breath of fresh air in our room was to open the windows the entire 4 inches they allow.  I missed sitting on a balcony with a fresh cup of coffee in the morning.

I am still begrudged that Marriot REQUIRES valets.   If I leave something in the car by mistake, well you know the drill.   And if I get all the way down to the valet and find I need something in my room, well you can bet you will see that frustrated frown on my face.  But, I have to say, the valets are some of the nicest, most considerate guys, and do their best to not keep you waiting.

While the Lake Tahoe area is lovely, and our suite defintely meets their standards for quality, bottom line, this is not my favorite of the Marriott properties based on the layout.

But kudos to the wonderful staff who keep this place in tip top shape. And Marriott for their fiscal excellence.  You cannot ask for better.

I am surprised to see that some people complain about this resort. We just spent a week there and really liked it. The weather at the beginning of June was just amazing, perfectly warm, but not hot. It was not overcrowded either.

We had one-bedroom villa in Alpine building #7302 (third floor). It was a corner unit that was surprisingly spacious with views of Gondola. Our daughter loved watching Gondolas moving in the morning. The unit looked like new to me, SUPER clean, and nicely decorated. The kitchen had everything we needed and more. They also had washer and dryer in the unit and even provided some detergent for washing.

The valet parking was very convenient. We just left our car with them and 10 before we needed our car we texted (not even called) and the car was always there even sooner than we needed it.

The staff was super nice and friendly and made our vacation even more special.

Our daughter (4 y.o) loved the kids club and spent a lot of time there. They have a lot of free activities for the little ones and some activities you have to pay for. The breakfast with fruit-loops cereal and cartoon is free (never give my daughter those fruit-loops, but there was no alternative); stuff a toy one-hour activity ($15); the camp, 3.5-hour activity ($40) and so on. It was convenient to have that option, because with most activities you could leave your children with them. They had face painting in the hall with freshly baked cookies one day. They also had teen club on the premises.

They had a lot of activities for the adults too. Yoga, Pilates, Zumba, and etc were free of charge. They had hiking trips free of charge. They also had swimming pool parties, s'mores gatherings and many more activities some free of charge and some not.

You do have to sign up, especially during the busy season for the activities.

I saw other comments about the late check-out, they actually did allow an extra hour in our case, we checked out at 11, which we did really appreciate!

The Fire and Ice restaurant was nice, but nothing extraordinary. We went there for lunch. For dinner we mostly went to the top floor of Harras hotel; we love their buffet dinners and price was good.

Or, and Reiley's (spelling) for your grocery shopping is very close, but it is way too overpriced. If you need to do a major shopping, a trip to the SAFEWAY is well worth it.

The close proximity to the Heavenly Gondola make this lodge a prime location for some epic South Lake Tahoe excursions.  I've stayed here with a bunch of friends over a weekend and we had a blast.  The front staff is friendly and very accommodating, I must've lost the keys about 5 times and kept coming back to the front office to get a replacement and was provided new ones with a smile.

There's a heated pool out back and very nice hot tubs.  The rooms themselves are very roomy, we must've flooded two rooms with 6 people each and still had ample breathing room.  I'd definitely stay here again once the next winter season rolls around.

This has got to be one of the better places to stay in Tahoe. Lots of Motel 6 or America's Best Value hotels here. For a better experience (and you will indeed pay a higher price), we recommend this place. Front desk very professional, well-trained. Down to earth. Valet efficient. Beautiful pool. And the hotel is very nice - a great location here in the south shore.

Very nice hotel/rental apartment to stay in South Lake Tahoe. The daily room cleaning is great. Lots of places to eat and grocery stores nearby. Too bad the swimming pool was being renovated. There is DVD player for each TV, however, it costs $5 to rent a movie. I think that is ridiculous. Maybe the management should consult with Marriott Vacation Club in Oahu about giving access for free movie rental for guests. Washing machine was loud in our room.

After our stay at the Marriott Grand Residence over the summer [ yelp.com/biz/marriott-gr… , we vowed to come back and spend some time here in the winter. Unfortunately, we chose a week that EVERYONE was in town because we couldn't get a suite there so we stayed at Marriott's Timber Lodge instead.

I love the location of both Marriott Timber Lodge and Grand Residence properties. They are very close to all the shops, restaurants and casinos in the area--and of course, the slopes at Heavenly.

We stayed in a 1 bedroom suite that had one bathroom and a full kitchen. It also had a full size stackable washer and dryer which became useful after a day on the slopes and just washing odds and ends during our stay.

The service here is really great. We found the concierge to be helpful, the front desk to be responsive to our needs, and the facilities well kept.

While we had a pleasant stay, here are the cons that I found with this stay:

--4pm CHECK-IN, 10am Check out.

--For $540 night, the 1 bedroom suite was tiny!

--No self parking - valet was $26 a night. In and out privileges, which was nice.

--Kitchen was much smaller than I've seen at other Marriott timeshares.

--The closet was small - and was the only closet in the entire suite. It couldn't fit our larger luggage in there so they were out the entire week. I hate that!

--The heater in bedroom was not working - cold air was blowing out the entire time. The bedroom was an ice box.

--Fireplace was for ambiance - did not produce any heat at all. It was probably because the room was so small but when it's -2 out, turning on the fireplace to produce heat would've been nice. Especially when the heater wasn't doing much for the bedroom and after a day on the slopes.

--Single chair in the living room was too upright and not comfortable to do any sort of reading or let alone relaxing in.

--1 bathroom so if you have guests, they have to use the master bathroom.

We came for the post Christmas / New Years Eve week and the Timber Lodge was packed the entire time we were here. There were big groups of people in the lobby at all times of the day and night which made it pretty hectic. We went through the lobby of the Grand Residence Inn one night and it was night and day. If I had to chose between the two, I would definitely choose the Grand Residence Inn even it's a bit pricier. A lot less hectic which is more up our alley.  Next time, we'll make our reservations earlier so we can stay in our preferred hotel.

Our stay -- in 2008 -- was fine.

But word to the wise: Don't agree to the 90-minute time share presentation, even with the discounted hotel stay rate, unless you want to be hounded for YEARS by an infinite number of vacation companies. I've had countless reps promise to remove me from their lists, but the calls keep coming, more than five years later.

Marriott sold me out.

We had a very nice stay at the Timber Lodge, EXCEPT for one very annoying instance when none of the valet boys offered to help us with our luggage or the cart upon arrival. At one point, two ladies in our group were obviously struggling, but no one helped until we asked for it.

At other points in our stay however, the valet team was very nice. I enjoyed all the activities in the lobby for kids, including a nice cream sundae bar and face painting.

The beds were comfortable, the gym was open 24 hours and was very clean, the housekeeping were very friendly, and there were several hot tubs to enjoy which could accommodate many people.

We will be back!

What a beautiful, gorgeous, updated and relaxing hotel! It was our anniversary and the villa was worth it (under $200!)
Quick Pros: This is amenities galore!
Fitness Center has towels, head phones, and water.
Swimming and Jacuzzi (hot all year round, 4 Jacuzzi, tons of towels)
Fully stocked kitchen
Organic local coffee
toiletries
Xtra pillows and towels
Fireplace
humidifier
washer& dryer (tide detergent)
Blowdryer
Jet Tub
Soft toilet paper
Close to basecamp pizza
Free classes/yoga
Again, I've traveled a lot and have never been to a hotel with this many amenities. It was tastefully decorated and updated.
The recepitionists were super welcoming and nice!

Cons:
Out of 6 receptionists I came across ALL were nice accept Michelle. She was super condescending....treating us like we were children.
Check out is a bitch, 10am

This is one of the newest and best places to stay in Tahoe.  Marriott is known for its classy, upper-scale properties and this property does not disappoint.  I remember seeing it while it was under construction years ago and thinking what an awesome looking place it would be, and it is!

The hotel is on the wrong side of the street (i.e. not lakeside) but the well-appointed rooms and the amenities in and around the hotel and in the surrounding mall help make up for this.  There is also a lift to Heavenly just a few feet from the side entrance of the hotel so if you plan on skiing Heavenly this is THE place to stay.  Some other highlights of the hotel include:

- Half-olympic sized pool
- Very large and well maintained gym
- Activity center for little kids
- Adjacent mall with movie theater
- Great buffet restaurant, Fire and Ice, where you pick your ingredients and they grill them up for you

We stay here a week at a time when we do a timeshare exchange and we get a two-bedroom/two-bath unit.  The 2+2 units are actually a one-bedroom apartment with an efficiency attached via a lockable pass-through door.  They are designed this way so that the 2-Br unit can be split up and rented out as the smaller units depending on demand.  The one-bedroom unit comes with a fully equipped kitchen including pots and utensils, it also includes a washer/dryer combo for laundry.  The efficiency has a mini-kitchen with a microwave and fridge.  The rooms have all the other equipment you would expect (large flatscreen, DVD player) and we had free wi-fi.

I see that my good friend Sharon V stayed here recently and got a bad room.  It happens, especially if you come during peak season when they may not be able to switch rooms for you.  I also agree that the valet parking is a drag.  Still, this is our favorite place to stay when in Tahoe.

The rooms are clean.  everything else about the lodge is terrible.  checkout in the morning is so chaotic.  the valet and bell hops are understaffed in the morning.  they cant help but be rude in the craziness of the situation.   its a mad dash to get a luggage cart.  the bell hops will tell you that the few they have left are for them to use and you have to fend for yourself to find one.  If your room is not close to the front desk area it's a pain to get your room because of the layout.  You have to walk through multiple doors and might have to take an elevator.

Usually, my family and I stay at the Grand Residence whenever we're in Lake Tahoe, but we stay here if there's a better deal at the Timber Lodge. They're basically the same property, but with different names and the fact that all of the activities are at this hotel.

Truth be told, I like the Grand Residence more for some reason, but I also like this hotel.

Good free wifi. Check out is at 10am but front desk was nice enough to give me 11am. Valet attendant was friendly, although she was very busy. Rooms have full kitchens (but it's amazing how many people can't cook, the fire alarm may go off & the front desk won't know where it's coming from) or kitchenettes w/ sinks, microwave, coffee, fridge, toasters & dishes! Nice high counter in bathroom. Rooms are very spacious & clean, except for a nasty cold stone icecream bowl left if our fridge :P

This hotel was in an ideal location - right by the water, walking distance to shopping, food, and the casinos!  Accommodations are very nice and I love that they have kitchens in the larger suites.

I really wanted to give you 5 stars but deducted 2 stars for 2 reasons -
1) No staff came to clean our room/throw out garbage, etc.
2) Check out time ~ 10am!  That's completely unreasonable and you should seriously think about changing this.  If you cannot turn a room in 3 hours - there's a problem.  Guests should not be punished for this.

The lodge is clean, the staff was nice and we had a 1 bedroom apartment for a room! We went for Valentines / Presidents Day weekend2014. The reason my husband picked this place is that's it right next to the gondola but we wound up having a few problems.

The Saturday we were excited about going up to the mountain it was too windy so the gondola was shut down so we had to take the courtesy shuttle to another side of heavenly to ski. I guess it was to be expected but it was VERY over crowded. To the point where it was very much like going to Disney land or an amusement park on a  weekend. Once we got to the front of the line we were told that our season passes were blacked out because of presidents Day weekend. Apparently they don't work on holidays. That's defiantly put a damper on our decision to get passes next season.

Any who, about the lodge. PRO's: The kitchen was stocked with equipment if we wanted to cook (Riley's is conveniently across the street), lighting was great, the room was very clean, there's a washer/dryer with detergent and the staff pointed us in the direction of some good inexpensive food as well as supplied ample bandaids. I gave my self some great wounds on both of my thumbs trying to open my go pro case :p. Oh! There's also a ski valet so that you don't have to continuously drag your skis around the lodge.

CON's: The TV doesn't have the greatest picture (Not HD) and the couch is vertical to where the TV is hung. It looks great for the space but not that convenient for your neck.  My other minor con is that some dirty towels were not replaced by the cleaning lady. I'm not sure if we were just suppose to wash them or if they were suppose to replace them.

My honest opinion is that if you don't really plan on being in the room long just get something less expensive. Ideally we would have been on the slopes but circumstances kind of prevented that.

Great location to everything.. Suite was very spacious... large open kitchen for cooking (we brought our own panini grill)....

So close to Zephyr for boating on the lake, close to trails, hiking.

Amenities are plenty. Used the small gym inside. Stares out toward the pool.
Pool facility nice...plenty of chairs for tanning, but fill up quickly.

PS We went next door to Raley's or whatever that market is there. Kiosk for Redbox and chilled with a flick in the eveningtime.

Lobby is nice. like

One star for free WiFi, that's it. Everything else is miserable for the price. For a $300+ room I tend to expect reasonable service. Not here, though. They want you out at 10am. We checked in for one night at 9pm and were essentially asked out at 10am the next morning. We also paid $26 for parking, and I was under the impression that is good for 24 hrs, but not so. You're out of luck after 10am the next morning. Folks at the counter are generally apologetic but helpless. When asked where to park for the remainder of the day they seriously send you across the street to their competitor with a short explanation how to get free parking there.
Good luck. Not recommended.

If you're an owner and they suggest you deposit your week with Interval International,  you will be ripped off.  They will downsize you when you come back and you'll have paid a lot of extra fees to do this. The manager,  Andrew, is very unpleasant to work with.  Tahoe is great,  just wish we hadn't invested with Marriott.

Overall great place to stay. Clean, new and cozy. Our room had full kitchen and even washer and dryer. (Luckily I didn't have to use it.)

The only thing is they've changed their "late check out policy" they charge extra for it now. They didn't do that before, they just let you if they could.  I was just kind of bummed about that  we arrived late since we were coming down from Sac and couldn't even have a late check out.

Cozy and pretty timber lodge. Service is pretty friendly. The ski lift is right outside the door so super convenient. Valet parking is $26 per night.
Our room was cute with a kitchenette & a king sized bed. It looked comfy, but I couldn't really sleep. Maybe it was because I sharing the bed w/ my mom & sis. I prefer sleeping alone so I have all that space to do whatever.

We paid 280 before tax a night. For that we got a ok size room however the walls were very very thin and you could definitely hear your neighbors. The front staff was nice but short and not as nice as what I would expect for a nicer hotel. My main gripe is that they charge for parking and also do not provide a shuttle which most hotels here do. We wanted to go have dinner away from the main strip and the fact we had to pay for a taxi when we paid what we paid for this hotel was not right in my opinion. Pros were nice pool, fast valet (separate company contracted by Marriot) good location in south Lake Tahoe. My advice stay some where cheaper, not worth the money. If you want to spend the money on a nice place go to the Hyatt in north Lake Tahoe

We stayed here last September when we eloped. Everything about our visit was lovely. When we first pulled in to valet we were greeted by the valet host (I wish I could remember his name, very nice guy) He took our check in info as our bags were being unloaded. He let us know our room wasn't quite ready and gave us a coupon for a free appetizer at Fire & Ice. Once we checked in we found the room to be clean and spacious. We didnt expect to use the kitchen much, but ended up being nice for a couple little things. Same with the washer and dryer. Would have been great if we were staying longer then 2 days. Plenty to do close by at Heavenly Village. Easy enough walk to casinos. All in all a great experience and would definitely stay here again!

Really nice hotel located in a great area!

we stayed in a suite and it was really nice. only thing that bothered us was the air in the rooms..humid? we could not sleep well, but maybe that's why there were humidifiers in the rooms.

so many activities to do!! wish we had time to do them, wanted to do yoga!! but no clothes.

too bad the only way to park is valet and thats $$$.

but we really enjoyed it there.

Great place... if you've never stayed at a decent hotel. This experience is worth maybe $100/night, not the more than $300/night they charge, plus $26/night for the requisite valet (there is no non-valet parking here). Their service staff is beyond pathetic - when we pointed out there were no sheets on the bed, they simply dropped the sheets at the door.

TWICE, we had the maids just walk in, without knocking or announcing themselves. When I brought this up to the concierge, it was met with an eye-roll and "Oh, you know the maids..." Then they comped one night of valet parking. For that they get an extra star.

The room was poorly laid out, extremely small, and the A/C was incapable of keeping the room cold. There were stains on the mattress (which were obvious without sheets), stains on the carpet both in the room and the public areas, and a creepy, filthy vent in the shower. Never seen that anywhere at all. I've staid at Marriott's around the world, and this was by far the worst.

Save your money, stay at a Motel 6. You'll get the same experience for a third of the price, and you'll even get a free breakfast.

GUESS WHAT (Timber Lodge) your my 100th REVIEW congrats.
This is a great place to stay over all the hotels I've stayed at before in Tahoe valet is a little expensive. I checked in on Friday night the check in was smooth the front desk reception was excellent gave me good info The two-bedroom villas are huge the concierge is also a big help with finding activities to do for my kids

overall I would definitely stay again but next time I'll bring my swim trunks I didn't think people would swim in 30° weather.

This high end timeshare isn't as luxurious as other Marriott timeshares I have stayed in the past.  Little things like cracked tile in the kitchen, carpet not clean, shower head not spraying uniformly and the valets taking a long time to retrieve the car. The location is nice with a Raley's Market within walking distance and a movie theatre next door,  I will probably try the Grand Residence the next time as it sounds more serene,
I love anything Marriott and prefer them as I am part of their hotel program which is first class.

Rates are pretty steep, but it's understandable base off of where this is located. Seriously, it's one of the best places to stay. It's next to a bunch of restaurants, Heavenly, and stores. The views are pretty great, and there is a giant pool (plus several hot tubs) for you to lounge around in after a day of doing whatever in the city.

What I really don't like is the fact that you can't really park here. It's $26 for valet parking only, so drive over to Harrah's and park there for free. You can walk the two blocks back to the Marriott without having to pay the expensive valet fee. The rooms are decked out though and pretty bomb. They come with cooking equipment and washing machines. Go wild. The bathrooms are pretty sweet too as they're large and luxurious. I do wish the fans worked in them though. Free wi-fi, right next to Heavenly, Base Camp, and a bunch of other places. Not bad at all.

This is the nicest hotel near Heavenly. It gives you the high end lodge feeling you want, while having the best location, literally directly outside the Gondola to head up to ski (and 5 feet from the ticket counter, which is probably your first stop anyway).

I'm not sure why they don't call it the "official Heavenly Lodge" or something like that, but this is the best spot.

Here is why they don't get 5 stars: they try to charge $26 for valet parking when generally Tahoe parking is either free or much cheaper just across the street, and there is no free breakfast or other similar amenities that might add to the experience.

The pool and multiple jacuzzis are very nice though, and you can't beat being in the same plaza with the entire Heavenly plaza and Base Camp Pizza (the best meal by far), the ice skating rink, movie theater, etc all right there.

Pros-great staff, amazing views, in the middle of everything going on, extremely clean and quiet, concierge is very helpful and useful.

Cons- gondola nearby is $45/person and Marriott doesn't help with that rate for its guests, no balcony on my particular room, $26/night for parking is highway ROBBERY!

I have stayed at this hotel several times over the past 5 years when skiing or mountain biking and have been consistently underwhelmed.

Basic rooms are typically more than $200 per night plus a mandatory valet service. But, there's no bell service leaving my family to struggle with our bags while trying not to be run over by the aggressive valet drivers. We've had smelly refrigerators or placement next to a noisy elevator with partygoers through the night. But the front desk always tells us these are not they're problems and to go stay somewhere else if we don't like it. We have stated elsewhere but there are limited options at busy times if the year - I guess why they can afford to be so rude and expensive.

Stayed here to attend a local event.  While it is technically a "Marriott" property, it did not have the elements of a Marriott stay that I've become accustomed to.

Specifically, here are some examples:
-Their check out is 10 am, one of the earliest I have ever seen.  I asked for a late check out and they moved it to 11 am.  I asked for later check out, given that check in isn't until 4 pm and a 5 hour window to turn a room seemed pretty long, and they would not accommodate me.  In fact, the guy at the front desk made it sound like he was doing me a huge favor by giving me a 11 am check out...
-Mandatory valet parking - one night, the valet left my headlights on the entire night.  Couldn't believe the incompetence.
-Room - we were put into a pretty small room, especially given the price.  I had expected more are for the rate.  That said, everything in the room was clean and functioning.

Overall, I've had much better accommodations and service from Marriott in the past.  I do not see us returning.

Loved the resort.  Needs more restaurants within the facility, or room service.  They received 2 stars because you HAVE to valet park your car,  it's chaos checking in/out, they have a tiny area with a lot of nice cars--but they are disrespectful to our cars.  My brand new car was left outside, unlocked in that city.... and 3 dings on the door when it came out of valet.  As I was trying to get out of their chaos, I watched  a valet driver bang the car door into a Mercedes, no respect.... NEVER AGAIN WILL I GO THERE AND SPEND THAT KIND OF MONEY, and have my things treated that way.  Bad, Bad move.

Went to the Timber lodge with my hubby for our mini babymoon getaway on a friends & family rate. The whole experience was great. Staff was very friendly and helpful and our room was pretty spacious which includes a mini kitchen with microwave and fridge. Timber lodge is also walking distance to the casinos and the village where there are restaurants and coffee shops nearby. What's also great is the heavenly gondola sits between the Grand Residence Marriott and Timber lodge. You can just walk right out the door of the hotel and you are just a few steps away from the gondola. What's also nice is the Timber lodge offers snacks and desserts on certain days. When we arrived on a Sunday, they had complimentary fresh baked cookies in the lobby area after 4pm. Later that night, they have a make your own sundae for about $4 and I think you do get your money's worth. I've stayed here in the past when I use to work for Marriott and had a great experience then.

We stayed here 3 nights 9/6/14 to 9/9/14.  The two bed room two bath suite was really nice and clean.  Well stocked.  Comfortable.  Great location.

Here was my issue.  Pull into the front valet, and they were understaffed and overwhelmed.  Cars seemed to be everywhere.  A valet tells me to pull up into a spot and park.  I am in the Valet and I park? OK?  When I do this, another valet tells me not to park here beacuse they were getting another pinned in car out.  So I pull back and park to unload my car.  The valet did get a cart for me, but he was no help unloading.  We arrived around 7or8pm, and our friends were waiting on us for dinner that night.  They already checked in and we just wanted to unload and go to dinner.  I tipped the valet/bellman $10 to take my luggage to my room.  I gave him specific instruction to take my bags into the sepcific  room number and gave him the name for which the room was booked.  I told him we are leaving for dinner and that I was not going to the room and asked him to secure the luggage inside the room.

Three hours later I return from dinner, only to find my luggage unattended in the front lobby by the bellmen desk.  My GF and friends take the cart up to the room.  No one stops them from doing this.  I go to the front desk to complain.  They tell me the bell service is a third party contractor and not a Marriott employee service. The bell men supervisor comes out and I let him know my displeasure.  He tells me that the luggage was secure and that there are cameras everywhere.  At this time the hotel night manager comes out telling me the luggage was secure and the hotel policy does not allow staff into a room with out the guest present.  So how does housekeeping work I wonder?   I asked them both where my luggage was right now.  They look over and the cart was gone, they had no answer.  I knew where my stuff was. I just wanted to prove a point to them.  Leaving luggage in the lobby unattended is not secure.  Camera will only show luggage being stolen.  In three hours probably 100 people walked by my luggage.  They do not secure your luggage, so buyer beware.

At  the end the hotel manager waived three days worth of valet charges.  I think I let them off easy.  I'd also like my $10 tip back for doing nothing.

If you're looking for the best location with all the conveniences nearby, this is the place. Since It's centrally located, we walked to the casinos close by and even to the beach (about 10 minute walk), ate pizza and rode the gondola and never took out our car from the valet. Even walk to Raley's for snacks and breakfast food since the kitchen was well stocked! Everyone was always smiling and helpful from the valet to the concierge. Jenny checked us in and was very helpful with our room request considering we had arrived a little early! Definitely, our place to stay in Tahoe!

Pros: great rooms, large bathrooms with large and deep tubs, all the employees are friendly, movies to rent, great access to all sorts of shops and restaurants, the area is beautiful, the drive to the snow wasn't that bad, the pool was VERY warm and there were 4 hot tubs, the fridge in the room was large and there was also a microwave and sink, and also the room came with dishes and cups which really came in handy.

Cons: when we first came into the room, there was dirt on the pool towels and the soap holder in the shower/tub that had a large thick black hair on it, the tv was really small and at a weird angle to the bed and the quality was poor, the light switches weren't near the bed so you had to get up to turn the lights off, there is no room service, no robes, lacking with the amenities, no really accessible outlets, the pool area had a weird burning smell that almost smelled like someone had gone to the bathroom and then burned it, and there was some visible damage in the hallways of the hotel like wires hanging out and there was an overpowering smell of paint.

Overall? I really enjoyed this hotel and definitely want to come back, it's not perfect but it's up there as one of the better hotels I've been to!

The place is a really nice place, the rooms are good, and its proximity to the Gondola is unbeatable. It is always great to find a place in a ski resort right in the main village(with a discount at most places!) But my problem here was the service. It was not satisfactory.

First of all, they are not very helpful when it comes to finding information. They will not tell you anything unless you interrogate.

Second of all, their responsiveness is near 0.  Our shower water was too cold, so we called for them to set a mechanic. 3 hours later, a guy came to fix our drain. Smooth. The guy stayed until 10 PM, and said he'd come back the next morning. No one came for the rest of the week.

Overall, the hotel itself is nice, but the service was bad.

Was there Sep 6-8th 2014. I'm pretty picky about where I stay. Attentiveness, details with cleanliness are my most have to have. I've stayed at the Grand Marriott across it and they are much better and cleaner even though you have to go to Timberlodge for their fitness room and actives.

I'll just list the things that made our stay not so favorable and get to the point.

1) asked for a room next to elevator, our room was 3 corners/turns from the elevator.

2) jets on the tub did not work, I called to let them know but after looking at the yellow/stained jets I didn't want them fixed since I won't be using them.

3) caulking and grout around tub were peeling and cracked (despite that it had been remodeled with new carpet, stainless steel appliances they are lacking the minor attention to details).

4) second night we wanted to watch a movie in the living room, the DVD player was disconnected from the TV. Since it was a wall mounted tv and the plugs were nowhere to be found we ended up calling a technician and it took 2 of them to get it fixed (I took a pic of them).

5) movies? Forget about it, there's no movie choices on your tv, you have to go downstairs and rent it for $5.00.

6) I was hesitant that there is no option for self parking just like the Grand Residence. I took a look around my car when we got home and there was a license plate mark on my back bumper. I don't parallel park my car and those marks were not there when we took a walk around the car before we checked it in with the valet. I read from a previous review that they don't care about the cars, and I can attest from my experience.

The place is a nightmare to get your car from valet and they are running around making cars fit in for the underground lot. I'm upset because I take good care of my car, avoid parking parallel only to get it marked by their valet attendant. My bf who checked my car and did a walk around when we checked out thought it was dirt, only to realize after we cleaned my car that it was in fact a license plate mark. You had to be so close to get a mark from behind and I'm never again staying in both properties.

This lodge is pretty nice. We stayed here in the summer time so we didn't get the whole skiing experience. Our room was nice but not very clean. You could see spots on mirrors, shower doors and floor.

This will be a good spot to stay at in the winter time because you are right next to Heavenly ski slopes and the gondola. It's very conveniently located.

We brought our boat with us and we could park it at a nearby parking lot which was nice.

Great location, beautiful hotel. Would've given five stars except the room was very expensive and they still charged me for parking and check out was at 10am. Other places charge less and include parking, have a later check out, and include breakfast.
We did enjoy using their gym (although they probably should've told me I needed my room key to use the cardio equipment)
and we enjoyed walking right out of the hotel gate to the heart of Heavenly Village - the restaurants and shops.

This is my first time staying here. I am usually at the grand residence. The Timber Lodge has the same flavor but feels more homey than a hotel.
All the staff that I encountered from the valet, bell men, front desk, and phone operators were super nice and super accommodating.
I feel I was lucky enough to e joy my weekend here and felt super relaxed.
Everything is literally in walking distance, Raley's, the movie theater, a few bars and restaurants.
The pool and the hot tubs are heated and perfect after a long day on the slopes.
Only bad thing was we were located right across from the elevator so we could hear the elevator chime every time it went off, it was super annoying when trying to sleep in.
The beds were very comfortable but we had a hard time finding that perfect balance of too hot and too cold.
I look forward to enjoying another weekend getaway here.

Beautiful and clean.  If you want to do laundry, the washer/dryer is tiny, however, they do have two full sized washer/dryers on the floor....other wise, it's a very nice property with access to Heavenly, Raley's, and a dozen or so shops.  Yes, parking is pricey, but you can just park at Harrah's and walk next door to the Timber Lodge....No one cares....besides, Harrah's know that there are people who cannot walk past a casino without dropping some money....and that we did....

Actually greatly disappointed by the service in this property. We came here for a mini vacation and we get here everything is great except for the fact that they don't treat people with the employee rate the same service as they do non-employees. They charge employees to get their rooms service, since we were already in a small budget working for the hotel industry so for 4 days we couldn't afford room service and to top it off check out time is at 10 and to get a later check out they also charge employees. I have stayed at Marriott properties at the employee rate and this place has treated me the worst of all of them. I plan to never come back here again I am so disappointed at this property not at all the service I would expect from a big Marriott hotel! I was taught working for a hotel to show the same consistent service throughout all guests because every guest counts!

We have been coming here for almost a decade now so I think it's about time to write up a review. Here's the bottom line. This place is great, but can be a bit pricey. If you are a timeshare owner, it's a much better deal, but even if you aren't it's still great for what you get. I would almost give it 5 stars, but some do have a few nits. I'd give it 4.5 if I could.

The property is beautiful and the location can't be beat. We started coming here to ski in the winter and spring, but now also come in the summer. There's always something to do in South Lake Tahoe and this hotel is in the prime location. It's great for families with a full activity schedule on the property. If you want more adult oriented activities, the casinos and their shows are literally a 5 minute walk. You are just a few hundred feet from the California/Nevada state lines. The village has everything you need (restaurants, shops, movie theaters, ice skating, putt putt golf, bike and equipment rentals, live music, etc.)

The rooms are like mini apartments with full kitchens, washer & dryer, and a full jacuzzi tub. If you have a long stay, these are indispensable. The two bedrooms are awesome with lots of room for multiple families. We've had a few family reunions here and each one has been wonderful. Once we got an "older" room and that was weird having a big tube tv, but now the property has been remodeled and the LCD tv are in the rooms as well as a comfortable pullout couch for the kids.

Downside? Every once in a while things are not taken care of when specified, but it's usually due to how busy they become. There is construction and ground maintenance at times that can get noisy, but just ask about it when you book and get away from those areas. Over the years they are charging for more things (valet parking fees creep up - currently $26) and changing some things (checkout at 10a is a bit early)  that can be annoying. Also the price of Heavenly ($85 lift ticket) and the gondola  ($45 daily) is getting way up there now. So, if you come prepared with an understanding of the cost of things, it won't freak you out. There are other options close by.

I'll post a panoramic picture from our room during a recent stay. This time we had a pool and casino (facing Nevada) view. Other times it's been the mountain and snow. It's nice to get a variety.

This is a nice place but dangerous. The power went out three times in our two night stay. I got hurt using a swim truck dryer that fell from the wall. I took a closer look... No bolts just two tiny screws.  I posted a pic

So I called the front desk asking for help and ice. Waited 20 minutes and no one came to my attention. So I called again using the hotel courtesy phone and no one answered.

So I walked up to the front desk and told them I felt like I was being ignored after an accident, they said they were sorry and would get some help. About 10 minutes later a maintenance man shows up, no ice. Nice.

We are here with our 3 young children under 8 on spring break and over Easter. The resort has a great kids' activity program that will keep my kids busy all day. The rooms are a bit tight but have everything we need from kitchen to washer/dryer. Heated pool means they can swim in 50 degree weather. They even assembled Easter bunny baskets for the kids for Easter morning and had an Easter egg hunt. My kids didn't skip an Easter beat.
The gondola is literally right outside the lobby doors where we drop the kids for ski school.  Call the a win/win for parents and kids.

Not a real Marriott. It's a timeshare scam run by the cheapest contractors they could find, almost all of whom appear to be teenagers.

Don't bother to come here if you think your status will ensure you're treated properly. I'm Gold Elite and about to be Platinum having accrued around 60 nights in the first four months of 2015, and it meant nothing because this isn't a real Marriott. Let me run down a list of things that I disliked about my 2 night stay:

1) Mandatory Valet Parking (no option to pay and self park). 26 bucks a night to park in this little dump when there's abandoned parking lots across the street.

2) Paper Thin walls. Normal conversations in other rooms were as easily heard and understood as if I'd been in the room with the people on the other side of the wall.

3) Probably owing to the paper thin walls, the entire room rattled and shook any time another room's door was allowed to close naturally (aka, not being gracefully closed). In the mornings, this is great when the cleaning staff is going in and out of all the rooms for hours on end. My rooms shook so much the pictures bounced off the wall.

4) Televisions smaller than the much cheaper Residence Inn I stayed at the previous week

5) Checkout is at 10AM... yes, 10AM. I asked for late check out and they spent 5 minutes seeking authorization to extend it to....11AM. Wonderful. When I inquired as to what exactly my status actually got me in this particular marriott, I was told that if I requested a movie rental I would get it for free. What a deal! I was told by no less than 3 staff members that this wasn't a real Marriott and that's why everything was different.

6) Getting your car in and out is a nightmare. The valet takes forever, is understaffed and much too small of an area to coordinate everyone checking in or out.

7) The rooms offer a view of... nothing. What's the point of paying a premium so you can look out at a parking lot or the street. I could have paid 1/3rd what it cost and stayed at one of the hotels that are literally directly on the beach.

8) Restaurant is horrible.

Now, to be fair, here's the good:

1) The bed was comfortable.

That's it.

Great place to be with family!

We booked their one bedroom villa and guest room and the best part is that they have connecting doors and our children were able to go in and out of their grandparents room and during bed time we just closed it.

The one bedroom villa comes with a full kitchen, full bath and a bathtub inside their master bedroom. It would be wise to pack the food you like to cook before you arrive as the grocery store is quite a walk and can be quite a work out if there is lots of snow! They do have a little store in the lobby with drinks and snacks but they don't provide bags. One night when we came back with our dinner we just wanted to grab some drinks but when we asked for a bag the person who helped us told us that maybe we should just walk to the grocery store instead! I just gave him the look, "Do I look like I want to walk with two young kids who are hungry and thirsty all the way to the store just to get drinks!" I pay overpriced water and drinks because we are tired and don't want to keep coming back just for water! Maybe just have some small bags on side if you have this small store for guests!

Parking is valet parking and just FIY always check your car after you check out as we had some scratches on our wheel.

We would definitely stay here again if we come back to Tahoe as it is very conveniently located next to the gondola and village (where they have lots of great food places!)

My boyfriend and I stayed here about a week ago. We loved everything about this hotel and would recommend people to stay at this hotel.

I was a little scared to see the inside of our room because I've had experiences in the past of dirty looking hotel rooms but our one bedroom villa was very clean! Our room had a full kitchen, washer/dryer, living room with a TV, king sized bed with a TV, a big hot tub with jets, and a nice looking bathroom. The bathtub with jets was super relaxing and was what I needed after a long day! We had no problems with our bedroom! The bed was big and comfy.

The service at this hotel was great as well. Although during the morning valet could be busy so it can take a while for your car to arrive but understandable because many people are checking out of the hotel. I would recommend for people to call or text the Marriott's valet pull up your car so the wait is not too long.

When you walk out of the side of the hotel was a gondola going up Heavenly Mountain which was $50 per person, a little pricy but definitely worth it! We were planning to go tubing two hours before they closed but by the time we got up there they sold out of tickets which I was super bummed about because I was looking forward to it so make sure you go early!

Overall, great time at this hotel and Lake Tahoe trip!

Getting there: picked up a rental car at the airport for $54 and dropped it off at the Hertz a block away from the hotel. We didn't want to pay $26 for parking and knew we'd be staying close to the hotel for most of our stay.

While there: Staff was friendly at check-in and throughout our stay. We had a small bedroom and since we were on the associate rate we didn't have our room cleaned which was fine. There's a Fire and Ice restaurant in the hotel and they also have an outside seating area. You step outside of your hotel and you're at the Gondola to take you to the top of the mountain. Heavenly ski/snowboard rentals is next to the Gondola and couldn't be easier for pickup and dropoff.

Leaving: We were told a cab would be "about $100" back to the Reno airport. Turns out it was a $200 cab ride. It would've been cheaper to rent a car for two days and return it to the airport for $70 less. I didn't want to take the Tahoe express bus and probably still wouldn't have but be aware that there are other routes of transportation back to the airport that don't cost $200+

Overall we had a great stay and will return if we come back to Tahoe within the next few years.
