The hotel was $41 after tax/fees on a holiday weekend. When everything else nearby started at $69+

The hotel manager was very friendly and responded to my question about bringing a dog with me over email very quickly. I ended up riding the bike up, but it was nice to find out they don't charge extra for bringing a dog with you. For that reason alone I will probably come again.

Check-in was 1pm, which I appreciate since most are around 3pm. I needed to check bags in before continuing on with my motorcycle trip to Genoa, Carson, Reno, Truckee, and back to South Lake so I wouldn't have to drag all the weight with me.

The room door opens with a regular key in the knob and there is no door bolt. But the hotel is in an area where I'm not concerned about security. Some may be turned off by this so beware.

The window was an old style I've never even seen before, it was like thick glass horizontal blinds and you open/close it with a mechanical crank and there was no screen. Add a screen and it would be charming! I still liked it. But that's probably just me :)

The room was clean. It had a mini fridge (with freezer), tv, microwave, iron with ironing board, hairdryer, and coffee maker (but no coffee?), 1 table, 2 chairs, 1 desk, and a good sized cabinet with the tv in it and drawers for clothes, etc along with the customary hotel nightstands, lamps, bed, headboard, and framed picture. All the linens and pillow covers were newish. The bed was fine.

I didn't see any AC, but in Tahoe you don't need it.  There was a large wall heater for winter that also feeds the bathroom.

The whole time you're in the shower it's going from cool to warm and back every other 3 seconds. But not intolerable in any way.

I was in room #2 right next to the office, stairs, and highway so the traffic was audible at night since the room is in no way sealed due to the window design, but that's fine by me. I slept OK anyway after a long day riding my motorcycle.

The hotel manager must have heard me coming on the bike at around 9pm as I was coming back from the Genoa Bar (which I highly recommend), because she came outside and pointed me to a "no parking", slashed line area, right outside the office and said it was cool if I park there. Which was nice because between the time I checked into the hotel around 1pm and the time I got back at 9pm the place went from empty to packed!

I was here on Labor Day weekend and there were fireworks. Which I was able to watch right from the sundeck / patio area that sits over the main office. I had to watch between some sparse trees in the way, but it beat driving down to the beach as I had a few beers in me :) The deck would be great for people watching if that's your thing. The hotel is about a half mile from the casinos.

I recommend the Midway Inn to anyone who wants a hotel room for the cheapest rate they can get in south lake tahoe. It has everything you need, it's clean, friendly staff, and it's very close to the casinos/stateline area.

There is no air conditioning. There is also no cross ventilation, hardly any ventilation at all.  (There is a small window in the bathroom -- with no screen! -- but when the bathroom door is open, the door blocks the window and when the bathroom door is closed, it blocks the ventilation.)  There is also a window in the bedroom, but you have to block it with the curtain, unless you want anyone passing by to see what you're doing.

The first night, they gave us two hand towels, but no bath towels.  The second night, they gave us two bath towels, but only one hand towel. The first night, they gave us one soap (the size of a normal motel soap -- after you've used it for two nights) and two single-use size packets of shampoo (although one of them had already been used by a previous guest).  The second night, we had more soap, but only one single-use size packet of shampoo.  It's a good thing my girlfriend brought her own shampoo.

There was a lot of dirt on the floor, and it was never vacuumed. There was even a price tag from a pair of shoes some previous guest had left on the night table. After two nights, it was still there when we left.  One chair was broken (at least, they replaced it for us).  There was actually a users manual for the TV remote.  (I've never been to a hotel that provided a manual.)  It would have been even nicer if they provided a remote to go with the manual.

On the plus side, the tv, refrigerator, and microwave worked.

I'm giving this place two stars because of it's location.  It is located in downtown Tahoe close to the ski resorts and casinos.

The motel, however, needs some serious work.  I've read other reviews that mention the motel is currently undergoing renovations, if that's the case we ended up with an OLD OLD unrenovated room.

The room had a small double bed that was in a super low frame. It felt like the mattress was on the floor.  The room had old nasty shag carpet in a weird brown color with something that looked like spots??  The furniture had seen better days and I was afraid to walk around without my shoes.

The room was so out of date that the majority of outlets were two prong and I couldn't plug in my phone in the main sitting area.  The bathroom was very outdated as well. The window did not close properly and there was a cold breeze that came through.  The door to the shower was super loose and almost fell on me.  Not cool!

After we settled in, I was looking for the TV remote.  I wanted to enjoy the HUGE 20 inch TV... well, there was no remote to be found.  I called the front desk and he said, "yes, sorry, no remote for room 17".  WHAT? no remote?  Well the TV didn't end up working anyway, so I guess it wasn't a huge loss.

So in summary - you get what you pay for.  If you want a small room to crash and you don't really care, then this is your place.  It is a one star motel, so you should know what you are in for.  The location is great, which is the only saving point.  There are also juice boxes and coffee in the morning when you check out.  That's about it though on the good....

This was the first and the last time I will say at this location.

Awesome little gem we found when we had to stay one extra night in Tahoe. In the outside it looks like any other cheap motel on the strip. But this family run business holds itself to much higher standards.

The room was a step above many chains like Motel 6 and Super 8. The carpet, bedding, and furniture was new. It's like they furnished it from an IKEA store.

It you need a cheap room and clean, do not look any further.

I just stayed there one night during the week of Christmas. We paid $90/night. Originally we planned on longer but after seeing the place, we changed our mind because of the condition of the hotel.  The reviews about how "unsanitary" and "falling-apart" the place is are more accurate than the reviews with 5 stars. The carpet was so stained and old that when I had to get up in the middle of the night and step on it with my bare foot I was afraid of getting fungus or something else from it. It was nasty.
The bed sheets were clean and warm, the bathroom appeared clean as well. The carpet was the absolute worst. The owner was friendly and understanding. It took a while for him to come attend to us when we arrived late around 11pm.
I cannot imagine any one giving this place five stars or the place remaining open for over twenty years.

If you ever decide to stay at this nasty stinky motel here is a list of things you well definitely need to bring with you.

1. Bleach wipes or a whole bottle of bleach
2. Sanitizer
3. Febreze
4. Air freshener
5. Your own bed sheets, pillows and blankets
6. Carpet stain remover
7. Lint roller for pet hair
8. Bring a portable fan or vent to purify the room because it stink like cat and dog pee

Its horrible!!!

I won't delete this comment because I haven't seen for myself, but the property management at this hotel respectfully contacted me to let me know they have made several updates and renovations to their hotel since I stayed there nearly 2 years ago.
