Because my sister got the wedding package with the rodeway inn, I too stayed in the hotel.  The staff was friendly (I believe it's family owned, which I strongly support), décor is a little outdated, but the rooms were very clean.  I wasn't thrilled about the continental breakfast, I've had better at other places, but I also paid twice as much for those.  It's walking distance from beaches, shopping, casinos, bars and food.  Can't beat that for $60 a night!  They were also a great help with the wedding prep!  The girl at the front desk even stored the cake in their fridge for us.  :O)

I'm all about bargain hotels, but this place was HORRIBLE!!!

What was so bad? Oh let me count the ways.

    1. It smells like my grandma's retirement home. Both in the rooms and in the hallways.
    2. This "breakfast" dealio is a joke. A bag of Iron Kids bread, a huge tub of Skippy to share, and a bin of stale Cheerios.
    3. The staff has ZERO idea about anything in Tahoe. We asked them for a ski suggestion other than Heavenly and they said to look it up online.
    4. Our room didn't get cleaned, even though we specifically asked a member of the housekeeping staff if we need to leave some note (the door thingies didn't have the 'needs cleaning' option) and were assured all rooms get cleaned. THEN when we returned to the room at the end of the day, we had to argue with a staff member to get new towels, and her kids (who had been running around), came in! Is that normal?
    5. The bathroom doesn't get heat, so bring a space heater if you intend to potty.
    6. People bring their dogs. I don't know if they are allowed, but it contributes to the smell and will wake you up in the middle of the night because the walls are paper-thin.
    7. The beds are cardboard boxes. I have never been so sore.

Only good points are location and free (slow) wifi.

My fellow visitors to Tahoe.  Please please please do a favor to yourselves by never ever staying in this hotel.  Especially if you are traveling with small kids.  This place is the worst of the worst places I ever stayed.  Here is my story.  I booked three rooms here during weekend of Feb. 18th and we booked for 3 families.  All of us have toddlers.  First of all the rooms are really really really old.  One of the friends stayed in the same building where the reception is.  They don't have the heater working in their room.  The mini heater the hotel guys provided almost exploded and my friend has to turn it off and bear the cold through out the night.  Then my other friend and myself lived in the building across the road.  Here the heater worked as expected.  But there is no hot water neither in the evening when we checked-in nor in the morning.  I called the reception in the morning and asked what's happening.  The receptionist kept on telling me that the technician is working on it and it will be 15 mins.  I told her to call when its ready and I waited for 1.5 hours and never got the call.  So I had to give my kids a cold bath in mid winter and head out as it's past the check-out time.  I went to the reception and talked to the receptionist about this and she told me that their manager Mike is going to call me on my cell to see what he can do about it in a day or two.  And today is March 16th and I never ever got a call from them.  Reading other reviewers experience, I guess not providing hot water is a common facility (pun intended) in this hotel.

And comment on the breakfast.  It's a very congested area where people are kind of over each other to grab the food.  No sitting area even for 10 families to sit.

They are trying to run this hotel by keeping some pleasant receptionists, who can do the nice talk on the face of customers rather than addressing the real issue with their buildings.

If after reading all this you still want to book a room here, good luck.

1st room we got hasn't been cleaned. 2nd room we got had very wet floors. 3rd room we got had the wrong # of beds. After an hour getting us our correct we got to relax. Waiting an hour is way to much work after snowboarding for 8 hours and driving for another 5 hours. Just go somewhere else

I have to wonder what people were expecting for the low price here. And to the person who said it was overprice, where do you usually stay? They have great prices here for clean rooms. We have only stayed in the jacuzzi suites (they have 4, located on the corners of the 3rd floor), but they are huge for the price and we didn't have any complaints. They do clean sort of on the late side sometimes, but that's life. Sometimes people just want something to complain about.

We have ALWAYS had a good time here. I believe the staff is friendly and helpful. We normally get the King Size bed with the Jacuzzi (Heart Shaped) For my our anniversary they put in a bottle of generic champagne, even though we don't drink alcohol it was the thought that counts. The hotel could use an upgrade on outside looks and inside the rooms and hallways. The beds are comfortable. Nice location near everything, restaurants, casinos, shopping and now they have room service (catered from an outside vendor). We've stayed in other hotels that were more expensive and not as comfortable as this hotel. The breakfast is ok, we prefer hot restaurant food and rarely eat the "free" breakfasts at hotels. I would recommend this place to a close friend or family member.

    1) Carpet is stained, rooms SMELL, bedding stained!!
    2) Staff does not have customer service skills and appeared drunk at one point
    3) Bathroom shower full of mold and show head did not work
    4) Barking dogs running in the hallways and the rooms

I have a 6 page letter written to the owner, Choice Hotels, and creditors regarding my experienced.

    Please, please, please stay away!!

On the good side, they are within walking distance of the casinos and just a little touch away from Heavenly. The state line is only a block away, so you can get away with buying from Nevada and having to get back to CA in no time. The apple juice and orage juice provided in the morning was all water and very little flavor, which is my first gripe.

I ordered a place to stay on Travelocity and paid for 2 queens, but got 2 full size beds. Which are cramped for 2 couples. The biggest problem that I had while staying there on new Years eve was that we had no hot water. We drove from the SF bay area to this hotel for new years night, and weren't able to take hot showers. Even more dissapointing is that the water heater for the building broke, and we had to go use the shower services of other friends rooms at the hotel. Since we kept asking what was up with the hot water, the reply given to me was that they were working on it.

On the third day, we are offered a substitute room, which is too little too late since we now have to leave to go back to work. The front desk person understood our dilemma but was powerless to help since we purchased tickets on Travelocity. Travelocity was unable to do something because we had already checked in.

One company said they wouldn't and the other said speak with the hotel. Only come here in the hot weather, because they don't get to cleaning the rooms until late in the day, so if you go snowboarding... by the time the slopes close is when they will clean the room.

Just a bad experiance with no attempt to try to compensate or assist.

I've heard horror stores about really gross hotels in South Shore, but for the price and location, the Rodeway is a fine place to crash after a day at Heavenly.

I booked my room through hotels.com , but next time I'll use the hotel's website for better rates and AAA discounts.

It's walking distance from the resort, and the hot tub, albeit a bit strange smelling (just make sure you shower right after you get out), does wonders for your skiing/boarding muscles at the end of the day. It was a little awkward to be hot tubbing when that day's wedding party came out of the chapel, but hey, whatevs.

The room was clean enough; a little over-perfumed with cleaning products, but the door onto the balcony allowed us to air out the room. Shower faucet was a little wonky, stopper in the sink didn't work, but the bed was fine, the TV had Bravo and the Food network, and the heater kept the room nice and toasty.

The continental breakfast was actually pretty extensive -- make-your-own waffles, eggs and sausage (mixed together, sorry vegetarians), potatoes, toast, cereal, juice, coffee.

Don't know that I'd get married in their wedding chapel, but I'd definitely go back the next time I want to ski Heavenly and/or Sierra.

How is the a casino center?? Because it's kinda by the casinos? It's not like it's right across the street or anything. It's more like a couple of blocks.

The breakfast is what you expect from continental breakfast. Just your basic cereal, waffle maker, and a few wilted apples.

Our main reason for coming here wasn't for the casinos or continental breakfast. It was for a wedding! They have this little gazebo area with grass that is right next to the parking lot, they wanted to perform the ceremony there, but then you would have to drive across state lines to say " I do." We weren't feeling that idea so we just had the wedding at this lake view, state park kind of a thing that had incredible views!!! It's open to the public though so there was a man laying on the bench near the area where they were going to perform the ceremony. I wasn't really feeling that. The wedding service they provided was OK. They forgot the flowers at the hotel so they had to drive the two miles back to go get them. All the views made up for all that.

Rooms were OK. Kinda small. The A/C worked really well. The floors seemed dirty so I didn't walk around bare foot. Everything else seemed clean. They have luggage carriers to transport your luggage. They had a elevator, which was nice. But I used the stairs. I wanted to burn a few extra calories. Lol. They had a nice size pool and jacuzzi. My little cousin went in it and said it was freezing.

This is a cute little motel, that I would definitely come to again.

I've stayed here twice.  The first time was a few years ago and it was across the street from the main office.  This time we stayed on the same side where the office was.  Both time, we stayed during Christmas weekend.  When I stayed there first time, the only thing I remember was that there wasn't enough hot water and the water pressure wasn't so great.  For our stay this time, there were some electrical issues.  We had booked 4 rooms and a few times the power would turn off then on again.  It happened to all the rooms we booked.  Hot water and pressure wasn't the problem this time.

They had a decent breakfast menu of eggs, sausages, oatmeal (instant), potatoes, waffles (make your own), toast, juices, and coffee.  They also have on site a washer and dryer, which I didn't notice the last time, and was a plus for me, since we were on a week road trip and needed to wash our clothes.

The one thing I thought was pretty cool of them was that I got a call from the receptionist letting me know that there was an ipod left behind in one of the rooms after we had checked.  They offered to have it mailed back to us when we send them a prepaid envelope.  She told us the maid had turn it in after cleaning the rooms.

Definitely not a 5 star place, but it's okay for a quick stay in Tahoe.

What can you really say about a Rodeway... you really get what you pay for???  If you're looking for a place that's pretty close to Heavenly, inexpensive, with a bed & a bathroom, well you've come to the right spot.  Granted you don't mind a run down old motel and are OK wearing socks or shoes at all time (yes probably not a good idea to walk around bearfoot).  It's a Rodeway, what do you expect.

On the good side: The beds were comfy and the pass to use at the private beach was nice.

On the bad side: Property is kind of run down. Loose hand rails, dirty walls and carpets in common areas. Breakfast was a total zoo because they had 2 tour buses full of people fighting over 10 feet worth of counter space. I couldn't tell you how it tasted because we gave up after 10 minutes and went out to breakfast. We had to wait until 4pm for the room to be ready and even though our Choice Rewards allows for late check out they would not honor it.

The price would have to be right to stay here again.

My fiance stayed here on our spur-of-the-moment wedding planning trip.  We had already booked the hotel for our guests during our upcoming wedding.  Finding ourselves in Tahoe, and realizing it was only going to be $39 to stay the night, we decided to stop here.  :)

We had no reservation, and when we walked in, the owner's wife was at the counter.  She had plenty of availability, and we got a room for the night.  Since we were right there, we went over our guest list and made sure everyone we expected had their rooms booked for the event.  (They did!) and canceled the extra rooms that were not needed.  She also asked if we wanted to upgrade our room, and handed over a key to one of their honeymoon suites so we could check it out.  It was a really nice room.  On the smaller side (as are really all their rooms) but plenty of room to get ready for the wedding.  Then we checked out the basic room (which we were staying in that night.)  We decided to upgrade for the wedding.  :)  She was really very helpful, and chatty.  I really enjoyed talking to her.  After a long day on our feet looking for the perfect beach for pictures, we came back to the hotel.  Like I said, our basic room was small, (really small) but it opened up onto a cute little balcony, and the bed was wonderfully soft.  The room was clean, and earlier that day, we had seen them professionally cleaning the carpets in the stairwell/elevator area.  Most importantly, it was QUIET, and the little window AC unit had a room delightfully cool.

In the morning, we checked out their complimentary breakfast - and it definitely exceeded my expectations.  There was a waffle station, with VERY yummy waffles, eggs, sausage, and country fried potatoes.  To drink there was milk, hot coffee, orange and apple juice.  There was also fruit, and a couple choices for cereal.  I have no worries about my kids or wedding guests finding something to eat here.  Although we won't be using them, I did peek at the wedding chapel, which was nice.  There is also a grass area with a beautiful gazebo for outdoor weddings.  If no one is using it, I may have a first look picture there.  :)

I HIGHLY recommend this hotel.  You will get far more than you expect for the pittance you pay.  :)

2 stars because it has a great location on state line.

The place itself is overpriced and underwhelming. But you're not going to stay here under the assumption you're getting a nice place, so in those terms, they did not under deliver on their value proposition.

It worked for us. 2 double beds and a bathroom, parking for our cars, and just a short (short!) walk to the casinos on state line and heavenly the next day to ski.

Though I do have to call out their lack of pet policy. Not sure if they have one or not, but the room next to us had a super annoying yappy dog that woke us up in the middle of the night and kept us up for hours. I wanted to shoot that damn dog.

The included continental breakfast wasn't extensive, but they did have oatmeal, cereal, and 2 waffle makers with batter to freshly make your own. I liked that touch, made my own and was quite happy.

Would I stay here again? If the price was right.

My second time staying here and I have enjoyed every stay. I will recommend, if you have no children, to stay in the balcony room with a King Bed. I read reviews where the other rooms were small, I can't speak for those rooms. Of course it's an older motel, but so are all the others ones in S. Lake Tahoe. It's better than a Motel 6! For a room for $60, I got a fridge, free parking, free wifi, free brk (just the norm continental brk, nothing fancy, but satisfying), a community kitchen for guests to cook (plates, utensils, etc included) and store foods in the fridge (how cool!) And lastly, friendly staff! Thanks for another enjoyable stay! Will return!

Rodeway Inn is good for its beds and breakfast, but this is no Bed & Breakfast. It's basically a crappy hotel. But I was pleased the rooms had nice beds with plush pillows and there was plenty to eat for breakfast. A buffet contained eggs and potatoes, along with oatmeal, waffles, bagels and fruit. The staff here was very attentive, but you have to arrive early to avoid the rush. My vegetarian cousin wasn't pleased with the sausage-laden eggs, and the potatoes seemed slightly under-cooked, but there was plenty of options to fuel us through the morning.

If you want to relax in the hot tub after a day on the slopes, you might consider settling for a shower. The hot tub was not worth the walk across the icy road. The spa was dirty and not nearly hot enough, and the massage jets were worthless. I wish the room had a bathtub, but the shower turned out to be pleasant.

This is the best bargain at the lake, we always stay here. Free hot breakfast, wi-fi, rooms with balcony decks, hot tub. I am in a room I paid under $50 for right now, and I'm a walk from the beach It kills me to see folks looking for cheap and reviewing with their inflated egos. If you want a $100 experience, then don't be a cheapskate. You get what you pay for, and in this case its a deal.

Stayed for two nights. Left the card on the bed to have the sheets changed the first night, the sheets were not changed. We came back to our room after being gone for several hours, found the room door wide open. Thank goodness we placed all our belongings in the closet, but housekeeping failed to close the door when they made up the room.

The room was quiet, the bed was not made well, I had to pull the sheet back over the mattress before getting in bed, the mattress pad was not the correct size for our king sized bed, so there was an awful ridge in the middle of each side of the bed.

Breakfast was sufficient, but the only fruit offered was last seasons apples. Very few healthier options and even though they were supposed to have some kind of breakfast meat, there was none. Most likely I would not stay here in the future.

When I told the desk clerk about my issues upon checkout, instead of apologizing, she choose to argue with me. All I wanted was to be told that the issues would be looked into and that she was sorry. I did call the front desk when I found the door wide open, I was hung up on the first time and the second time, I was told they would look into it, when checking out I was told I never called as she was the one on duty the entire day before. I know I spoke to someone, but I question the front desk clerk's customer service skills.

Just got back from a fabulous weekend in Tahoe and am so happy we found this place! It was cost and location (not to mention the crazy rates of the larger hotels) that drew us to the Rodeway Inn. And based on the review, I set my expectations pretty low. It was such a pleasant surprise and I would definitely come back.

Here's what I loved: Location- it is 2 blocks away from the beach, and 2 blocks away from the back door of Harveys Casino.  Super easy access to the two places we wanted to visit most on our weekend getaway. Room - the room was very clean, bed was so incredibly comfortable with what seemed like new comforters and extremely soft linens. Pretty sure the towels were softer than mine at home! We were most excited though to find that we had a balcony with two chairs and a table. Made the room seem so much bigger and at night, it was so wonderful to sit out and just take in the large trees all around (be sure to request a room facing the street though, as there were rooms with balcony's that overlooked the back lot). The standard rooms are on the smaller side but honestly, that didn't matter to us at all. Even without the balcony, we were content.

Only a few minor complaints: I read on another ad that there were passes for the nearby private beach which I knew nothing about (we just had to pay $5 to access the beach instead). While the bathroom was incredibly clean, the sink was slow to drain. But its an older place so that tends to happen. I don't take it as a reflection of poor maintenence. If I could make a wish list, I'd add mini fridges to the rooms and change the breakfast to be past 9:30a, but these are not things that would keep me from coming back.

Overall, super happy with this experience. For a quick trip away, this is priced incredibly reasonable and made for a great place for us to stay!

I saw a review saying the rooms were updated, and that review was three months ago. So we were unfortunate not getting that updated room coz what we got was an old one. The heater/fan was working, water pressure was fine. The problems we encountered were the wifi connection was not working. Well, it was working the first time we walked in but later that night, it kept saying incorrect password. The sad part was their reaction or no action to the problem. One guy said just keep trying, and after hours of keep trying, no luck. So to keep us busy, we decided to turn on the tv. But the tv had no sound! That was the worst hotel experience we had for $180 a night! Their breakfast time I think is tricky, 7:30 to 9:30 only, when people are probably still sleeping. We are not definitely going back here. The one star is for the nice receptionist we had on the check-in.

This place is old and run down.  Our sheets looked dirty when we got to our room; they were wrinkled like having been slept in.  They were not changed after the first night either.  If you are doing this to conserve water, I don't have a problem with that, just let me know.  I expect clean sheets when I arrive.  Won't stay here again.

It is a decent hotel stay for a night or two. More than that, I would suggest you check what dates are off season with less tourists. Because this time around the hotel was busy and we could hear ppl talking, walking down the hallway, etc. No, I am not exaggerating lol. Paper thin walls. The carpet is faded green and the bed is comfy.

Okay so first of all this hotel isn't as bad as it seems. It's a low end hotel riding on the side of a motel. However you aren't paying out the door here so you do get your money's worth. Me and my girlfriend stayed in a king room with a television, heater, and free breakfast, along with buying the package through heavenly's website for 3 nights and 2 double day lift tickets it came to roughly $600. Which for being in walking distance of the gondola it was a bargain deal. Sure it wasn't the best but we had a great trip, the owners are extremely friendly and I would stay here again!

Rooms are clean and updated. Comfortable beds and excellent complimentary breakfast. The staff is very polite as well, the location is great.

If I had anything constructive to say it would be that we got the king suite with a balcony and our balcony faces the property behind us- so request sunset view if possible, I'm sure it's prettier.

Place actually has two separate buildings, the office is attached to a 2-story motel on one side of Pine, then across the street there's a larger and kinda nicer 3-story building. No clue what the office side rooms are like, had a king bed in the 3-story.

As par for Tahoe, kind of an old and creakity building, but I had no real noise problems during 2 nights. Top floor is apparently all 2-bed rooms, don't think anyone was above me, but I got no noise from neighbors on either side. Have to book one of those if you want to be on the uppermost floor tho.

Room quality is closer to a Quality Inn than the typical Rodeway. Flat screen TV with Charter Business, good comfy bed, everything in working order. Even a tiny little balcony to sit out on if you want. Good air/heater unit that lets you run a strong fan for white noise. No micro/fridge but I saw some sort of community kitchen out in the hallway.

Good breakfast, scrambled eggs, roast potatoes, sausage patty and waffle iron in addition to the usual continental stuff. Nice little dining area with plenty of seating too.

Wifi was OK. On the slow side, cut out for a couple minutes here and there, but functional. There was some sort of Ethernet jack in the room, I didn't have a cable to try it out though.

I haven't stayed at a whole lot of places in Tahoe but of the ones I've seen this is the best budget option of the bunch.
