My cousin and her family are timeshare owner and was able to secure a space at this lodge. Great location and just right across from the Heavenly Gondola. Walking distance to all the casinos and main strip of South Lake Tahoe to the Nevada borderline. Rooms were decent, a lil on the older side but free wireless for timeshare owners and the housekeeping cleaned all the dishes!

In South Lake Tahoe, it can be hard to find a decent hotel room. Since I frequent the town quite often, I have had several occasions where I have been stuck in really crappy hotel rooms where I have been afraid to touch the bed.
So I was really pleased with my room at the Stardust. It was clean, and had a lot of conveniences like a microwave, VCR, radio, fridge and a shower with two shower heads. The room was a little 80's- red carpet and furniture and some very 80's lamps. But it was really clean and the staff was very friendly.
One of the best parts about the stay is that it is so close to the casinos!

Don't let its rough exterior fool you. The sign of the Stardust Lodge might always have a light bulb or two burnt out, appearing sketchy to the untrained eye..but it really is a gem. We stayed on the lower level of the 2 story unit. There were 6 of us crammed into the 2 room suite. The bedroom had a queen bed, a TV and DVD player and just enough privacy for a girl sharing the place with a bunch of guys.
The main room had a fold out couch, TV, DVD and CD Players, sink, full sized fridge, microwave, blender, dishes...I felt right at home.
There were large mirrors on almost every wall, opening up the place and although it was a little tight, it was also very cozy.
My boyfriend and his friends stayed in the upstairs part of the unit last year, and from what they said, the downstairs is definitely worth the extra money.
A few other amenities that I didn't take advantage of was the mini gym, pool and street front spa. I will definitely consider the Stardust for future South Lake trips

Great location.  Clean, remodeled room. My husband and I came to Tahoe to play slots and golf, and the accomodations were not so important.  The room was sold to us as "sleeps 3, 2 privately."   It's a good thing we didn't bring along a 3rd person...It was a small one room unit.  It had a murphy bed which could accomodate 2 people and the footstool/coffee table unfolded to a cot for the 3rd person.  With the murphy bed in the open position there was barely room to push the footstool/hide-a-cot out of the way.I dont know how we could have opened it to accomodate another person, let alone have any privacy!.
We did enjoy the cookies on check-in and free popcorn.  Although we didn't use it, they have a free laundry facility, which is quite nice.

I have stayed here twice so far but havent in about 2 years. Its good to see recent reviews and happy ones at that!!!

At first site the age of this place would turn one away. First time was a last minute thing so we got a nice little studio. We were surprised that it had a fully stocked kitchen. Only stayed for the night but it was a good one and under $100.

Second time was a planned trip w/ about 12 people. We booked 3 suites from 1-2 bedrooms. All were kick ass and were under $120 per night. We stayed for two nights this time. Decor is old but its cozy. Everything was clean and again, fully stocked kitchens in all suites. The double headed showers were kick ass for a couple =) and the mirrors in the room made things interesting =)

I would recommend this place to anyone that can get past rooms that look like they belong in the late 80's.

Stardust South Lake ROCKS!!!

I have travelled extensively and have stayed in many of the best international hotels the world has to offer. I'm not saying that the Stardust is a five star resort, but it delivers fully on my expectations every time I have stayed here. The location is as good as it gets for Heavenly, just steps from the Gondola yet only a two block walk from the stateline casinos. The staff is simply fantastic, from the manager to the desk clerk to the maids. They really made me feel like home, always quick with a dinner recommendation or to accomodate a special request. There is always coffee and donuts to grab on the way to the mountain or hot chocolate after a day in the snow. The rooms are comfortable and clean and the showers have double shower heads which is pretty cool. Gym is enough for a daily workout and the heated pool and jacuzzi are always clean and working. They also have a huge DVD library they will let you borrow for free.  There are many more luxurious places to stay in SLT but you will never find a better value for the money than the Stardust Lodge, I rarely give 5 stars but I just love this place!

We had a wild weekend. We drove to Death Valley, stayed in a haunted opera house, drove to Vegas for a few hours, ended up in Pahrump, Nevada, at the Pahrump Nugget (which deserves its own yelp review as well, for being awesome). We took off to Yosemite, got roadblocked and ended up in South Lake Tahoe on the last night of our trip. This place was a bright shining star, we were drawn in by the bitchin' sign. Turns out, this place is fucking rad. We got studio room at a ridiculously low rate. Our room had a murphy bed that was really cozy, tv, dvd player, fridge, microwave, couch, dining table, and a two headed shower!  After our long day of driving, several beers, and a burrito, I passed out quite happily in this sweet little room. Oh yes, we will be back.

Great location, people, service and extras.  The one major drawback is no AC; we were all dieing from the heat and never did get a good sleep.  Would not recommend staying there during the summer.

The bf decided to take me on a spur of the moment trip to South Lake Tahoe and after yelping where to stay for the night we settled on Stardust Lodge and it was one of the best choice we made to begin the trip. After checking in we both received a bag of tasty cookies from the gentleman who checked us in. We opted for a loft styled room where the bed pulls out from the walls.  Prior to pulling out the bed the room is quite comfy and roomy. It was quoted for around $70 but after taxes it was around $80...there regular bedroom with an actual bed instead of out of the wall is quoted at $90. Our room came included with a mini fridge, microwave, toaster and a large sofa bed and dining set. Each room has a country charm and it was super clean and didn't smell which is a plus for me. The highlight of this hotel for my bf was the double headed shower head lol....he told me he couldn't stop spinning in the shower...i'm like wtfudge hahahhaa.
Anywho location is perfect right across from the Heavenly Gondala and many of the main shopping centers. It's a 10 min walk from Harveys and Harrahs but i HATE gambling and gamblers so that didn't do much for me.  The restaurant selection around that area is crap so i suggest you go grocery shopping before or while there and stock your hotel room's mini fridge.  Beside after a long cold day in the snow all you wanna do is head back to your hotel room and relax and after winding down and relaxing it's hard to rebundle up and head out in the cold again.  It's just nice to bring your own easy to heat TV dinners and hot coco...besides save all the money you can because that Gondala ride and those lift tickets are expensive!

Totally agree with the previous reviewer. This place is a real gem. My boyfriend and I stayed here for a weekend, but my family also owns a timeshare here, and comes during the summer. Here's a run down:

Pros:
- Very close to Heavenly (right across the freakin street!)
- Beautifully remodeled rooms which resemble a fancy condo rather than a hotel room
- Dishes, silverware, microwave, half sized fridge provided in the room, along with a coffee maker, toaster, cutting board and blender. You can even request a hot plate.
- Ionic breeze and nice ceiling fan really help to circulate the air
- Two shower heads, and huge shower!
- Heater on timer inside the bathroom
- Wonderful housekeeping and generally quiet neighbors.
- Close to Raleys supermarket, Starbucks, a cinema, and restaurants.
- Parking inside and on the side of the hotel
- 2 blocks away from Harrahs and other casinos
- Free coffee, donuts, hard boiled eggs, and bananas in the morning.
- We had free wifi, but it was a little bit slow.
- Good selection of cable channels, great television in the room
- Laundry room provided, so bring your detergent!

The not so good:
- Too many cars parked, so it may be hard to find a spot sometimes. We arrived after midnight, so there were only 3 spots left
- Some equipment in the gym was broken, and looked like nobody was going to fix it soon.
- Bad circulation and no air conditioning in rooms. There is a heater control though.
- Bad circulation means opening windows. Too bad neighbors can sometimes be loud at night when they are drunk.
- Opening windows only works if the blinds are up. Since the murphy bed is right in view, consider lack of privacy an issue.
- Room is a tad on the small side, so you have to move the ottoman to pull down the murphy bed. Bed is also not the most comfortable to sleep on, but is very interesting.
-No real closet, so you should try to bring smaller luggage or duffel bags, which can be put into the drawers provided.

Overall fantastic place. Would definitely stay here again.

Very nice. Continental breakfast was actually really good. The donuts were fresh and not the cheapo donuts that I'm used to. These were the real deal!

Back to the room. It was very nice, accommodating for 4 people. There's a gym, a heated pool, and also a spa. We didn't get a chance to try these out, but hey..it was available to us :) They also have bbq grills if you want to bbq.

It's conveniently located on Tahoe Boulevard...near pretty much everything. Everything was walking distance, so this place scores a 5 for location. About a 5 minute walk to Harvey's and Harrah. And right across from Heavenly ski resort as well. I wish we had time to board, but sadly we didn't.

This is a great place to stay and probably the best place to stay for parents traveling with kids. What is available: a spacious living area, kitchen table available, fridge, sink, extra dishes, etc. I would definitely stay here again.

I've done a pretty exhaustive tour of dumpy hotels in South Lake Tahoe.  During ski season I'm up here most weekends and I really sleep around based on the cheapest rate.

Stardust definitely has location going for it - easy access to night life and right across from the Gondola.  Location is pretty much it though.

I really don't enjoy the murphy beds and always wake up with a sore back.  Just like every other 60's/70's hotel in the area, the walls are thin and it's easy to join your neighbor's conversation *ahem* through the wall.  Bring earplugs.

It's the location that makes this an ok place to go.

We just love this place. The kitchen is great! We love the studio space! The remodeled rooms are fantastic! It also has so many extras...gym, hot tub, laundry, pool, popcorn, breakfast, DVDs and cookies! The location is the best and you can leave your car here while you hit the mountain after checkout! Just a great place!

I just stayed here for a week (March 14-21). This place has the best location on the California side to the Stateline Casinos. The timeshare was perfect for two people and a little tight with three, four people would be way too small. The room was really modern and had just been built within the last two years or so.

Good things: Huge flat screen TV in living room and bedroom. Free internet. Shower was hot and had really good water flow. Free washer/dryer use. Two whirlpool hot tubs throughout the resort.

Bad things: TV reception was really fuzzy. Internet was extremely slow. There was no real closet to hang cloths, just a built-in corner linen closet that was an afterthought. The kitchen has no stove, only a microwave. Lights were really dim throughout the entire place. Bedroom was only big enough to fit the bed (the door hit the bed).

The place was great, but needed to be designed a little better.

Trying to find a place to stay when visiting South Shore beside the same old crowded casinos, well look no further. This small lodge is perfect for those who are looking for a place other than the casino. The rooms have been recently restored and looks nothing like the outside. Don't be fool by the outside of this lodge. Parking is provided for hotel guest.
The rooms are equipped with a small kitchen stove and oven. 4 sets of dishes and other cookware. The rooms were well lit and very spacious, our bed was very comfy after a day out in the snow. The shower, the amazing double head shower was great. Never going cold and hit every part of the body it will get you clean. Need to see how to get that install at home.
The staff is very customer oriented, making your stay as warming as the can. Unlimited free movie popped popcorns=BOMB. Must have ate 4-5 buckets during my stay. They have a gym year round pool and hot tub. A book shelf full of movies to settle the night away.
The location of the place is very easy to find, can't miss it. Across the street from the Heavenly village less than 5 minute walking distance to the casinos or Raleys. The convenience of everything, price, service, and quality earns this place a 5 in my book. Definitely a place I would book to stay again when doing over night trips. It beats the pricy Marriott that is across the street in my opinion.

I usually stay in elusive timeshare resorts which are very spacious and brand new,  disappointed this RCI resort was OPEN TO THE PUBLIC and looks like Best Western motel.  If I rated as RCI resort would be 1-2 because this is not up to timeshare standards with tiny motel room.

I got stuck in very tiny (200 sf) studio unit.  Sleeps 4 (sofabed and wall pull-down bed).  Room so tiny I kept banging my knees.  No bathtub. Tiny kitchen area has dishes, sink, small frig, microwave, hot plate (impossible to cook as counter too small).  Room clean.  Nice toiletries.

RCI guests pay $49 fee.  RCI welcome packet includes: 4-free meals (on site), 1-free activity pass (2 people), free pass Lakeside Beach (6 people) for duration of stay.

NEGATIVES:  tiny room, no air conditioning, no elevators, no bathtub, no oven,  parking very tight .

POSITIVE:  1-block from Heavenly and casinos, friendly staff, room clean, free bikes (kids & adults), free DVD movies & popcorn, free breakfast (donuts, egg, fruit, OJ, coffee), free WIFI, free HBO, free exercise gym, free business office.  Activities planned every day (bingo, water aerobics, ping pong, vocalist, wine party, t-shirt painting).  Nominal fee but some activities are free.

Best value in Tahoe.  Don't be fooled by their retro sign...This place is awesome.  Beautifully renovated rooms (the photo of the room with the striped wallpaper is old) and meticulously cared for grounds.  The staff is great and the location can't be beat.  Directly across the street from the Heavenly Gondola, you can walk to anything you'd need, including the private beach just a few blocks away (be sure you remember to ask for a pass at the front desk before you go).  Heated pools and 2 hot tubs, BBQ's, etc. this place is sure to impress!  Another great trip, thanks to the Stardust!

I've stayed at the stardust twice now and both times have been a blast - for a place that has such a young staff, the service is exceptional!  I've watched these kids multitask when dealing with multiple patrons at once, and all with a smile.  They were attentive to everyone's needs, and did a great job with the meals and activities that the stardust offered it's guests.  I look forward to many more visits, and want to let everyone know that the stay there gives you the feel of the true "winter lodge" experience.  Thanks for everything.

I've stayed at a lot of the "budget" lodging in South Lake Tahoe and for the price I got a room at the Stardust, I wasn't exactly sure what I was getting into. I'm hesitant to write this review cause honestly I'd rather people not know about this amazing place.

We arrived at 9am in SLT ready to hit the slopes. Stopped in just to see if it was ok to park our car in the lot till we checked in later and they said they even had a room we could check into immediately. Score! We even made it in time to have some of the breakfast they provide each morning. Donuts (like 500 of them!), hard boiled eggs, fruit, juice, coffee. Perfect little meal before hitting the mountain.

The room was amazing. All new inside. DVD player, CD player, and the mattress on the bed was super comfortable. Wall sized mirrors everywhere (makes hanky panky extra fun...) and a phone in the bathroom. Really. In. The. Bathroom. (As well as in the room proper). Tile floors keep the danger of wet, moldy carpet away. A DVD library of 500+ movies to choose from. Very nice hot tub. Pool towels. Specialty soaps, shampoos, and conditioners and lotions. Double shower so you can share. Wink wink.

Our room was in the part of the property right around the pool, so I can't vouch for the rest, but damn... this place is way better than places I've paid much more for.

OMG I am just in love with this place. But listen, don't tell everyone. Let's keep it our secret, ok?

Water temperature in the shower did fluctuate kind of wildly, but hey, if that's the worst you have to deal with, well, stop complaining cause the rest of the nearby hotels pretty much suck and not in a good way.

I come up to Tahoe a few times a year; sometimes my family rents a cabin out, sometimes we stay in one of the casinos and when just my boyfriend & I come up for a quick trip we usually stay in one of the smaller hotels/inns.

With that being said, my boyfriend decided he wanted to be spontaneous and take a trip to Tahoe since we haven't been in a while so I did a quick expedia search and with the lack of snow these days there were plenty of options with cheap rates! I'd read reviews about the Stardust and was really impressed with all of the raves. I recognized that not all of the rooms have been remodeled, but crossed my fingers that we'd get one and if not the reviews gave me confidence anyways. So even though the nightly rates here were more than the Park Tahoe Inn, the 968 Park Hotel, and Harvey's I wanted to give it a chance.

We arrived at the Stardust around  midnight and the office was closed so they had a phone to call and get the code to a lock box with our room key inside. There were plenty of open spaces for parking so we quickly found a spot and headed up to room 216. To my disappointment this was not one the remodeled rooms. It had a bit of a musky smell and my boyfriend was confused about where the bed was (I knew he wouldn't have wanted to come here if I told him there was a possibility of a Murphy bed). My boyfriend wasn't thrilled with the Murphy bed, but I can sleep just about anywhere (move theater seats are apparently my favorite) and I thought it was fine. I guess I got used to the smell because it didn't bother me past the first night. And I must say that even though the room was seriously outdated, it was very well kept and extremely clean!

The next day we grabbed some donuts, hard-boiled eggs, bananas, & juice from the activities room and went to the front desk to get set up with free wi-fi. The front desk area is really nice, I assume one of the first areas they remodeled. They also offer popcorn, coffee & cocoa in the front desk area at all times which I thought was a fun touch. The staff was extremely nice and told me about some of the activities they had going on that day--they keep a list of daily activities here, definitely a fun add-on for families staying at Stardust. Next we went to rent out the complimentary bikes that I had read about. I was really looking forward to the free bike rentals (it was honestly a big selling point for me!) and I was really bummed out when the staff told us that they only have them available during the summertime. Sure we could go down the street and pay to rent some bikes, but we also could have brought our own up for free if we had known they wouldn't have them here. Oh well.

Overall we had a nice stay here, the staff was really friendly & the rooms are clean. But I wish we had stayed somewhere else. I actively decided to pay more than Harvey's, 968, & Park Tahoe and since I've stayed at all three more than once, I know that I prefer all three to Stardust. I'd like to come back here once they are completely done with the remodel. After seeing some pics of the remodeled rooms I know I'd love them and be willing to pay a little more for them but as far as this trip goes, I can only give Stardust 3 stars.

Truly a gem in South Lake Tahoe! We've stayed at this place before and really liked it then for the personal service and cool perks like raffle, wine & cheese and free breakfast, but this time Stardust added one big bonus - totally remodeled rooms. It was actually a mini-suite with living room that has a sofa, small dining table, coffee table, LCD TV and granite top kitchenette with stocked supplies, and then a cozy bedroom with recessed lighting, another LCD TV/DVD and cool cabinets around the bed. Modern bathroom indeed has 2 shower heads on opposite sides - very cool feature!

If you need a nice place to stay in Tahoe (5 minutes walking distance from casinos and 5 minutes from the lake) - give them a call!

This place was really cute. I don't think $200+ is cheap, but it is cheaper than many other hotels in the area. The outside had nice flowers and a clean looking pool and the grounds were well maintained. Parking was iffy; we were always able to find a spot but we literally always found the last spot. We had a recently renovated room, and the decor was really nice. Great furniture choices, it felt like a boutique hotel. The bathroom was really nice too - dual shower head (no tub), and pebble floor in the shower. Bring your own toiletries however, they only provide soap.  Tons of cabinets which would be great in the winter to stow your gear. We had a kitchenette and it was well stocked with cooking supplies. Only 4 plates and a few cups though; you have to wash after every meal. Also, there was no coffee for the coffee machine and not even a coffee filter! We brought coffee to make after standing in ridiculously long lines for Starbucks on a previous trip. I had to hunt down a filter to use from the hotel. They offered continental breakfast, which was donuts, coffee, banana and orange slices. The tv in the room was nice and there was a blowup mattress pull out couch we didn't use. The huge drawback to this place in the summer is that there is no air conditioner and it was sweltering at night. They had a really nice fan which helped a lot, but it was still very hot. And opening the window was a no go unless you want to hear traffic and loud people by the casinos. We would probably stay here again, but it wasn't perfect.

Four people shared a studio for one night. They gave us two goody bags upon check in. The goody bags included toothpaste, shampoo for hair and body, and icy hot patches. I loved the icy hot patches because I was sore from snowboarding.

The studio had a couch, flat screen tv, microwave, sink, and a fridge. The bed was a pull down.

The hotel provides free use of the washer and dryer. I think that is really good seeing how people go snowboarding/skiing and clothes get dirty/wet. Some people forget about their clothes so just take it out.

My friend went to use their gym while we all took turns using the shower.

There is also a pool and a jacuzzi. When we were walking back from the buffet at Harah's we saw a couple in the jacuzzi making out.

I slept on the couch and it was comfortable enough for me to fall asleep. My friend had trouble sleeping with the refrigerator making noise.

Also there was a heater. It came in handy because my friend caught a cold from snowboarding. It did get pretty warm when we were sleeping but all of us were too lazy to get up and turn it off.

As we like skiing/snowboarding in Tahoe, we usually stay in South Lake Tahoe as there are many stores and restaurants around Heavenly Gondola area. Stardust Lodge is 30 seconds to the Gondola gate. The price is reasonable for the great location. Staff are always friendly and helpful. Rooms are small but comfortable. We like their complementary DVD library and popcorn. We are staying here for three years.

Good:
Friendly, helpful staff
Lots of extras - popcorn, bikes, dvds, two pools, walking distance to lake, portion of lake set aside for guest

Bad:
we had a one bedroom.  It was VERY small.  The bedroom itself was like a closet (no windows), and NO air conditioning.  So needless to say, the days were fun, the hot stuffy nights unbearable.

I was so skeptical based on some of the reviews, it's name, the exterior, and of course, the wierd sign post.  However, I have to say, this was such a welcome surprise.
We arrived there much earlier than check in time (2-4pm) and they gladly cleaned a room and aloowed us in at 11 am.
The service was great!  Complimentary gym, breakfast, popcorn, movies, beach towels, beach chairs, and bikes.  Could not believe this.
The rooms are tiny, esp the bathrooms, both my husband and I could not be int he bathroom at the same time.  We loved the kithenette area.
I had booked the room and at first he was wworried at the dump I had chosen, that is until we went in and he said her had loved the place!  Score!
The murphy bed did not sound strong enough but it made it through! No broken beds there!

5th time staying here bought a time share for a medium room ( starlight) . Walked in and we were surprised how big it was ! Not huge by anymeans but much much nicer that the small studios, we have a real bed, and its very comfy, corner unit so its got an extra window and a lil more patio area. So i suggest buying or renting a 1 -2 bed !!!

Guest above us are very noisy keep dragging the furniture across the floor :-(

Renovation to the place are wonderful. I stayed here using my rci time share points. I was here for 1 whole week. I didn't really know what to expect since the reviews on the rci website varied. All I have to say is DONT' JUDGE A BOOK BY IT'S COVER. When the BF and I pulled in the place reminded me of a 70's Motel 7 place. The sign is retro which is cool, but it might throw some people off. The best part about this place is it's location. I didn't realize it was literally right across the street from the gondola for Heavenly and right across Heavenly village. What a pleasant surprise! It's also conveniently located within walking distance to the casinos.

Going back to the interior of the place. Although I booked a 1 bedroom unit, the place was still a little tight - especially when you take into consideration storage, etc.. Everything inside was very modern and updated. I had enough counter space (although I honestly wished for more) to make basic food and the necessities were there. I loved the dual shower heads and updated fixtures as well.

The gripes I had about the place were the following:

1. The heater didn't work - this was quickly fixed when I called the front office and griped to them. In less than 5 minutes a young guy showed up at my front door with a heater in his hand.

2. I couldn't reach the racks in the closet to hang up my clothes - they were too high for me (and I'm not that short).

I stayed here and used my moms rci time share points. Stayed a week in march. This was the best experience for me. They set us up in a nice cozy studio that had this Murphy bed with a couch which we have never seen before. It was pretty comfy which was not what I was expecting. There was a half kitchen with a stove, microwave, fridge, and a dish washer. It was not crowded when we went so we pretty much got to use the heated jacuzzi whenever we wanted. The front desk girl, Mayra, she was awesome, all of the employees were. We loved this place!! There must be rooms that are not as nice as ours were this i gathered from the reviews but we were lucky to get a nicer room. Big shower too... My fiancé and I were able to take a nice bath one day. It's right in the center of the shopping centers and the grocery store so we could comfortably walk wherever we needed to go.

We recommend the Stardust to any one traveling here to South Lake. The location is amazing right across from the gondola takes you right to the lifts at heavenly which is where we skied so it was just perfect.

They also gave us a sheet of paper which outlined their activities for each day that week and also what was going on in the town that week. We made a tie dye shirt there too. We also had 2 free meals that were home cooked. Chili and lasagna both were really good.

it was just an amazing experience for our vacation altogether and our stay here just made it even more amazing.

Thanks guys!!!

We've been visiting the Stardust almost every year since I was very very young - so about three decades now!  My family has a timeshare so our room is usually one of the smaller ones but they do have larger rooms available.

The room, as I said, is VERY small.  I can tell, though, they were fairly recently renovated as everything is different and newer than I remember from my childhood.  Nevertheless, they somehow fit a dual shower head shower plus toilet; a separate room for a sink/changing area?; a kitchenette with cabinets, a slimline refrigerator, a sink and dishwasher, a two burner range, coffee pot, and toaster; a table with 2 chairs, a dresser, and a couch/murphy bed.  Also there's an ottoman in the room that converts into a twin bed.  It's a VERY tight fit with both beds set up but it's do-able.

Small room aside, it's a vacation resort so there's always activities during the week.  When I was younger I would participate in the activities and borrow bikes (free for guests) at least one day during our week.  There's also a very low cost dinner offered every week that varies from lasagna night to bbq nights.  It's a great opportunity to meet and greet with your neighbors for the week or just have a nice dinner if you prefer your privacy.

There are two pools and hot tubs. The rear pool has a handicap accessible hot tub and the front pool has a quiet time for adults from 2 - 5 (which is fantastic now that I'm an adult!).  There are also noodles etc to use in the pool and a hot tub in the front pool area as well.

The resort is also fabulously located just a short walk away from the State Line (read: casinos).  Also since the Heavenly Village was completed, there are shops, restaurants, and the gondola (and more) just across the street.  Plus, as my mom just reminded me, it's on the California side of Tahoe so no Nevada resort fees apply.  It's also just a short walk from beach access and you get a complimentary gate pass good for up to 6 people and for 1 week.

Overall this is a great little place.  Every afternoon/evening there's fresh popped popcorn in the lobby, coffee all day, and complimentary donuts and boiled eggs in the morning.  You get homemade cookies upon check-in.  And the staff is always exceptionally nice and helpful.  I've always loved our weeks in Tahoe and can't imagine staying anywhere else in South Shore.

Great price and location, just a bit over a block from the casinos.  The front desk staff were super friendly and efficient.  The room, a studio with a Murphy bed that worked well and was very comfortable,, was just right for two people.  Not the place to hang around in e room and watch TV, but who does that in such a beautiful location?   We were there for a concert and will stay at the Stardust again next time we simply need a good place to sleep.
The continental breakfast was very basic but had fresh pastries and good coffee.  Get there early as quantities are limited.

We are currently staying in one of their 2 bedroom units.  It is very roomy with a large living room, full kitchen, two full baths (one with two headed shower), and a heart shaped hot tub for two!  There is a TV in each room (bedrooms, livingroom and even the kitchen).  There is a balcony out front with a table and your own private bbq grill.  There is a weekly fee of $49 which covers internet (on as many devices as you like), free bike rentals, and free dvds.  (They have about 200 to choose from.)

The reason for the 4 stars is a few things:

1.  There is this weird mix of old and new.  For example, there are two flat screen TVs and two of the older large TVs in the room.  There is a 10 year old dvd / vcr player and then two new dvd players.  In the recreation room, there are books and magazines you can borrow with some being very recent and others are more than 20 years old.  (Really, I grabbed a magazine from the early 90s!)

2.  Water pressure in the showers is very low.

3.  Their information binder is way out of date.  It would be helpful if they updated information as things change at the lodge.

It was late Saturday night and we needed a place to stay, and Stardust had a vacancy. I always passed this place thinking it was a dirty rundown crackhouse, but it's SO the opposite. It's a walkup solidhome?

Anyway. So this place is actually a whole bunch of timeshares. Rather than the typical motel establishment, each little rental is a full unit, mostly one-bedrooms or studios. We were hooked up with a one-bedroom. Place had a full on fridge, a stove, dishwasher, sofa bed, and... yeah. So it looked like a studio apartment, but then there was the separate bedroom. OH! The place came equipped with a CD PLAYER! Pretty awesome. But I couldn't figure out how to work it... I put the iPod inside, but the lid wouldn't close. *shrug*

The living room area and bedroom each had ceiling fans. The bathroom fan was a bit loud and we could hear upstairs neighbors walking, but hey, whatever.

We got there too late, but the place offered free DVD and game rentals, popcorn and in the morning there were "breakfast treats." Pretty awesome, yo.

The bed was soooooooooooooooooooooooooo comfy. I loved the pillows. I took a picture of the tag so I can maybe get myself some one day. It was a pretty great night's sleep.

The only thing that troubled me were the framed pictures. So in the bedroom there's this cute bear cup chilling in the tree. In the bathroom are little chicks. The main sitting room there is the wolf with this death stare that stares into your soul and eats all of the happiness and light that has ever existed. It was greatly frightening and I couldn't find a way to cover it since it was so large. It's called "Alpha Wolf" or something, but it should be "Alph-I-EAT-YOUR-SOUL"

There was a little mix-up and the room was rented to us so last minute the night before that the next day someone rented the same room early in the morning and we were still in it when she tried getting in at 10am. We spoke to the front desk at check-out and they were so nice and understanding and the guy who did the accidental double booking fessed up to his mistake and explained where the confusion was. All was forgiven.

Definitely will come back when I'm looking for a place to stay in the area. It would be nice to stay a few days to check out the grounds and amenities.

I am so pleased to let people know about the stardust property.  As an owner at TB&S, we made a late decision to go to Tahoe for Thanksgiving.  I was hesitant to book at a hotel converted to a timeshare and I normally do not feel comfortable staying at places with front doors that open to a parking lot.  The Stardust exceeded my expectations.  Check in was a breeze and we were given a list of activities to participate in.  The first night they had a cheese and wine event, which normally I wouldn't go to.  I went and really enjoyed getting to know the staff, figuring out which day to use the property bikes, and met a few long time members.  As a studio level owners, (and I've always traded to locations without studios figuring it was too small), we got a studio.  The Murphy bed was more comfortable than many other beds I've sleep in.  The recent remodeling of the kitchen and bath was top notch.  The shower with dual heads and the beautiful tile work made me want to redo my shower at home....especially the rock detail.  I was concerned that 3 people in a studio would be cramped but the Murphy bed converted to a love seat when not in use and it was very comfortable.  The day we rented bikes we were  given a great recommendation for a trail we'd never done and the selection of bikes (at no charge) was amazing.  Thank you to the Stardust for making me a believer in Studios, converted units, property staff actually enjoying their job, and a relaxful, yet busy week full of Tahoe beauty.

I must admit I had my reservations when my guy told me we would be staying at Stardust Lodge for my birthday weeked SLT trip. How great is feels now to be proved wrong!

When we drove up to Stardust, even he expressed his surprise with the exterior: "Are you serious?" Well, being that I am a woman and I take the time to analyze things, I had already researched the place and so I knew to expect an outdated exterior. We were told by the front desk staff (a nice young gentleman) that we had scored one of the renovated rooms, which had me light up with glee! But I did not expect to see what was inside.

Photos don't do the rooms justice at all! I opened the door to my new little studio for the weekend, and it was PERFECT! I grinned from ear to ear as I checked out the beautiful modern decor, the kitchenette (fully stocked!!), the bathroom sink/vanity area with plenty of counter space and wall mirrors, and, last but not least, the stone shower with dual shower heads. I looked at my guy and told him he did very, very well. :)

Staying at Stardust for the weekend was more like having my own little studio apartment for the weekend. I felt at home. I still got my healthy breakfast in the morning, worked out at the on-site gym, watched a movie during downtime from their extensive DVD library, etc. Yes, the studio is small, but it is perfect for 1-2 people and I could not have been happier! It should be noted that I am not the easiest to please, though I DO make the most of every situation. But I digress...

Oh! How could I forget the perfect LOCATION? We nearly walked everywhere, from the Heavenly Gondola across the street, to Harrah's and Harvey's, to shopping on the strip. It's also a short walk to the beach area. As far as I'm concerned, Stardust Lodge has it all. I was one very happy customer! We will be back in May!! :-)

We were only staying in Tahoe for three days this year because we were going on to San Francisco and Monterey, so we stayed here instead of the Marriott Residence Inn.

First thing I saw when I walked in the lobby? Popcorn!  Of course, I went for some and it was good.

Then, we got to our room, which looked out onto a wall. I didn't really mind it because at least our car was a few feet away. The bedroom was kind of cramped, and the mirrors on the wall were tacky and reminded me of porn movies from the 1970's.

I docked one star because there wasn't a lot to eat for breakfast - Just oatmeal, fruit, hard-boiled eggs, and donuts. The hard-boiled eggs tasted funny, so I mainly stuck with the donuts.

Will stay here again. However, we're having a family reunion next year, and my least-favorite aunt wants everyone to stay here. I think I'll go back to the Residence Inn to spare myself the embarrassment.

We stayed a week in a studio unit.  The walls were very thin.  The first night we listened to music from our upstairs neighbor until about 3:00 am.  The next day I mentioned it to the office, which closed at 11:00 pm every night. The rest of the week we had no music during the night but we would be awakened to our neighbor opening and closing drawers, scrapping something across the floor, and walking as if he had an elephant in the room.
The Murphy bed, which was not listed in the booking information, was extremely hard and very hard to get into and out of.
The studio unit was extremely small and it was hard for 2 people to maneuver in the room.  Size wise, It would be perfect for 1 person.
Parking was a little restricted so if you were not back to the Lodge early you would not get a parking spot.
The room was well appointed and very clean.  The staff were wonderful, especially Kenny.  I would stay there again if the rooms were more soundproof and if we had a bigger room.

We came up to Lake Tahoe in the high season without a reservation anywhere. We walked into the Stardust and met Kenny and it was the beginning of a great vacation!

The entire staff could not have been nicer or more accommodating. The first night we were lucky enough to stay in a beautiful 2 bedroom - 2 bath suite. It included 2 full bathrooms, one has a huge jacuzzi tub. It also had a gorgeous fully updated kitchen  along with a fireplace, living room, and a huge porch with BBQ. The second night we stayed in two separate room equally just as nice. They gave us free bikes to use, and a bottle of wine for a friend's birthday along with a warm delicious cookies! Breakfast is also on the house!
There are two really nice pools and lots of fun activities. The location can not be beat! You can walk everywhere! The staff is so friendly. They even helped us get discount tickets for activities like boat rides etc.

We can not recommend this place high enough!!  We will definitely be back. Thanks Kenny & staff!

This place is very conveniently located right across from Heavenly shops and gondola. The staff is super helpful and knowledgable about the area. They have free breakfast every morning including fresh donuts, boiled eggs and fruit and coffee and tea. They also have several other free activities throughout the week with wine and beer live music etc. I had never traded into this place and when they had a hot deal for $200 for the week I grabbed it up! In the summer they have bikes to borrow and they loan out snowshoes in the winter so you save a bunch of money staying here. They have two nights with homemade dinners for only $7 a person which is a good deal. I am so happy I discovered this place after all this time staying up here. I will for sure look for this place again when coming up here. Staying here was very nice. The units have cooktop, microwave, dishwasher, full size fridge and everything you need to cook for the week. Also a huge double sided shower for two. Two nice sized flat screens too. You can't beat this place. Location, ammenities, perks and friendly staff come see them next time your in Tahoe.

Resort living: It's like cruising without the ship.

Stardust is a condo and a hotel.  We traded in for a week that started while 2 fires burning in California cast smoke over the lake.  Just as I expected, the firemen were successful and the skies were clear for us most of the week.

The lodge has heated swimming pools, a barbecue deck, a weight room, an activities center, and free DVD checkout, all in  a courtyard right off the main street (i.e. highway).  These amenities, and the fact that it's OPEN when a thousand other hotels and motels appear to be vacant, made the week for us.  The in-room wifi is decent, too.

The location is perfect.  It's walking distance to Lakeside Beach, Raley's, Heavenly Valley, Harrah's, Harveys, Montbleu, and Horizon.

The rooms were great.  We were booked into a studio the first night, where we enjoyed watching fireworks over the lake, and then upgraded for free to a 2BR/2BA for the rest of the week.

Dancing, karaoke, a barbecue, water aerobics, and hikes on nature trails were all on the activities calendar.

I had seen the Stardust Lodge sign on the highway for years, but I never thought of staying here.  Now I'm glad that we did!

Open secret: There's another heated pool behind the building.

BED BUGS BED BUGS BED BUGS
I checked into a single studio August 2014. The check in staff were very friendly and the price was decent. While taking a nap in my room a staff member opened my door without even knocking and proceeded to walk in until I freaked out. Then after returning from dinner and settling into my bed, I began to notice beetles crawling on the walls. Then I look in the sheets and there were bed bugs crawling around. Lets just say I packed up and booked it out of there and they didn't refund my money either. Beware of bugs

Very nice place to stay. We found a coupon for the hotel online so we got the room at a very good price, although we didn't stay in one of the refurbished rooms it was still very nice. The one downfall was no ac in the room so we constantly had the fans on and left the door open.

The place had many pros, the room was nice with a full fridge and cooking/kitchen utensils, 2 tvs a little living room type set up as you walk in and the bed in the back room. The guy at the front desk was very nice and accommodating. They also have a nice pool and spa, complimentary rental bikes, movies, board games, and wine (; also throughout the week they had different activities going on here and we were walking distance from the casinos, restaurants, and shopping center. Perfect location!

We stayed at the Stardust in early April for 3 nights. Family of 5 with dog in tow. Our kids (11, 9 and 7) LOVED the spot. The hotel is perfectly positioned in the middle of everything which makes it uber convenient. The rooms were nicely remodeled and very clean. We had a little kitchenette with all the amenities needed to even cook dinner one of the nights. The pool was clean - there was a sign saying the pool was kept heated year round to 85 degrees...felt more like 60 degrees though. The staff was helpful and responsive. Every day/night they had a theme they encouraged the guests to participate in, like taco Tuesdays or karaoke night. We showed up for karaoke but there was only 1 other guest there - guess it wasn't that big of a hit. There is a bit of a noise problem though. The walls are pretty thin. Every morning I was awakened by a repetitive creaking sound which I thought was the A/C. However the pace would escalate as it progressed...so yeah, someone was "having relations" nearby. It woke my son up one of the nights. I told him it was the ceiling fan and to go back to sleep.

2 bedrooms (1 with it's own bathroom and hot tub)
kitchen with fridge, microwave, stove, sink, pots, pans, eating-ware
dining area
2 couches that pull out into 2 beds
gated patio with bbq grill, swing set, patio furniture
2-sink bathroom
TV

Free continental breakfast that ends at 9:15 that consist of boiled eggs, donuts, cut oranges, cut bananas, orange juice, hot chocolate from a packet and coffee. The food might sound very sparse but it's what I have for breakfast most mornings, especially when I'm rushing to work.

Free popcorn and peanuts available at the rec room.

Activity room has a water cooler.

They have a shelf of books you can borrow.

The front office has a wall full of videos you can borrow to use in your room.

Front office bathroom is nice, big and clean.

Complimentary bicycle rentals to bike around the area. Yup, free!

Coin operated laundry room.

And it was super super cheap!

And it was located so near Heavenly Village. Walking distance!

Stay away if you cherish your sleep!
We had booked the the Stardust for 4 nights and checked out a day early because we were so sleep deprived that we couldn't function any longer.
The room was super hot and stuffy (75 degrees when we went to bed!) and no chance to cool it down although we had the windows open and the fan running from the time we came home to the time we went to bed.
And the noise was horrible.

First night: loud tapping noise, lasts for about a minute, repeats itself every 28 minutes. I know this, because it kept me up pretty much all night and woke up our 3 year old son.
We told the receptionist, described the noise in detail, told her that it keeps us awake at night. She claimed maintenance would take care of it. Nothing happened.

Second night: loud tapping noise (description see above) plus a 2am false fire alarm
Tried to take a desperately needed nap in the afternoon after 2 nights of sleep deprivation - not possible thanks to a beeping lift, only interrupted by chain saws and a stump grinder. Told receptionist that we are very tired due to the tapping noise at night that nobody had taken care of and have a toddler that needs to sleep. Again, nobody cared.

Third night: loud tapping noise, up all night again.

But wait - there's more! The check out!
Receptionist: how was your stay?
Me: horrible, that's why we are checking out a day early
Receptionist: "oh, ok". Looks at her screen. "Well, you are all set"

REALLY?!?!?!?!? By then we already knew they didn't care but how about pretending?

On our way to Tahoe I told my husband how excited I was about the location of the Stardust Lodge and that it would take a whole lot to dampen my excitement but those guys nailed it! Not only did they dampen my excitement, they ruined our family vacation.

We had a wonderful stay here at the Stardust! This place is so cute.. we just loved everything about it. We stayed in the deluxe studio which had a great kitchenette and a beautiful bathroom that exceeded our expectations! The murphy bed was surprisingly very comfortable and the smart tv was an awesome bonus! We could just plug our gopro usb right in and watch all of our videos and photos from the day on the slopes! Perfect size room, not too small at all. Dual shower heads in the shower was awesome too. The Jacuzzi was WONDERFUL and the perfect temp.
Location is perfect, right across the street from Heavenly Village & the gondola!

Wow. For the price. Wow.

We drove up and at first I was disappointed. It looks like a fairly standard crappy motel.

But look around and you start to notice that there is an activity/fitness room. Outdoor chairs set up for lounging. A pool (on the small side but nice) and spa. And the sign says free Wi-Fi. Definitely not your standard motel.

Walk inside the room and you are blown away. Very nicely renovated with high end fixtures. The bathroom is nicer than our newly remodeled master bath at home (and I love my new master bath). Rooms come with a full kitchenette. Stove, microwave, oven, full size refrigerator. We also opted for a suite so the front room contained a queen sized sofa bed. There are beautiful designer touches throughout the suite (like the adjustable overhead reading lights installed in the master bed headboard).

Plus the location is fantastic. Right across the street from Heavenly. And a fairly short walk to the beach on Lake Tahoe. By the way, the motel gives it's guests free beach access. Otherwise, you will have to pay.

And wait, there's more. The motel provides free breakfast (donuts, instant oatmeal and fruit but hey the kids loved it), free coffee and popcorn in the lobby, free DVD rentals (movies were recent too!), and even activities. Best of all, there is a SECOND pool and hot tub in the back. And this is a hot tub on steroids. Never seen one quite that big before.

Downsides: Location is a plus if you want to be in the middle of the action. Otherwise, be prepared for some noise. The motel is right off the freeway and a short distance from the casinos. We also had the police come knocking on our door one night. No, it wasn't us but the people next door. My husband having to answer the door in his underwear. Priceless.....

Real downside however is lack of air conditioning and lack of ventilation. Those rooms were hot! Now you know why my husband was sleeping in his skivvies.

I have stayed here every month for years and they don't seem to care or notice. The one time I bring my family, they have jacked up the prices to almost double what I usually pay. $205 a night for a 10 ft x 15 ft room. I feel totally ripped off. As I sit here and look a other hotels online I feel like an ass for giving this place another shot.

Even now I feel the urge to support this family run business but if they can't recognize a return customer, what's the point?  I tried the 968 Park Hotel twice and the second time the girl that checked me in knew right away that I was a return customer.  On the second visit, I received a discount and felt like a valued customer.

I'm going to try and cancel my 3-night stay and go some place else. Looks like I will save some money too.

So me and my boyfriend decided to spend our Christmas at South Lake Tahoe. I found this hotel through Hotels.com .  After reading so many good reviews online, I booked this hotel with no doubt.

The staffs were friendly and accommodating. They are able to answer any questions regarding the activities around that area. When we came into the room and we were surprised about how nice it is!  We had a one room suite comes with a kitchenette which is a big plus. Everything looks new and well renovated.

The location is perfect! It's walking distance to restaurants, casinos and Heavenly.

Everything seems so good and exceeded our expectations until I sleep in the BED!
I felt itchy while sleeping at night. When I woke up the next morning, I wasn't surprised to discover bug bites on my legs and arms! It is awful! I am not paying $200 per night to experience bug bites. The hotel has responsibility to protect guests from bug infestations. We mentioned it to the front desk when checking out. Hopefully they will take care of it! I just wish those bugs won't come home with me as souvenirs!
