Let me start by saying "this a SUPER 8 MOTEL"  not a fancy hotel suite with a view, hot tub and champagne...just a motel.  The primary reason for staying at this place is to save $$$.  Fridge, microwave, coffee maker, hair dryer, iron and ironing board, cable, pool, adequate parking, free WI-FI (fast too!!!) and within walking distance to many restaurants.  The staff is very friendly and willing to help you find local amenities.  To top it all off, their ground floor rooms are pet-friendly (no deposit, only an extra 10$ a night).
My fiance and I booked a non-smoking room 1 night in advance and were accommodated promptly.  The grounds are clean and since the rooms sit back off of the road, you can barely hear the traffic.  Another convenience is that the rooms have 2 doors.  One door opens to the back and the parking lot, while the front door opens to the grass and the road.
Our stay in Tahoe was great and this place helped us save some money so we could spend more on activities.  Considering that it is just a motel, it exceeded our expectations.

Gross!!! This place is Dirty and Nasty....Bugs in the room, walls were just gross as were the carpets and everything else!! Not even a clock in the room, the remote didn't  work went to the office 3 times to get one and just gave up. We stayed in room 106 you could see were the door had been kicked in before, doesn't make you feel safe with the chain lock on the door! There has got to be better places to stay for the same rate.

We booked this hotel five weeks in advance. We knew we may not get a non-smoking room (which we preferred) and we did not.

Unfortunately the room smelled of not just stale cigarettes, but of garbage. The floor in the bathroom had cigarette ashes all over it. The window in the room bathroom was screenless and it also was backed up to a garbage dumpster which you could smell from the room.

We called the front desk to see if we could move rooms, but they were sold out. We asked if they had any type of spray for the room that might minimize the cigarette smell. They said they'd send someone. After 2 1/2 hours they had not sent anyone. I went to pay a visit to the front desk and asked them again. They said they would send "the guy" with the special spray that will take out the odors. Still after another 30 min. he did not come. When I called the front desk again they said he must be gathering up what he needed and would be right there. He showed up with a small can of glad floral spray! I kid you not.

The walls are thin and you can hear your neighbors.

It is right on highway 50 and very loud.

We don't normally stay at this type of motel so I can't say if it is any worse than any other in this category. It was not worth the cost savings, not even for one night!

best super 8 motel i've ever stayed in. let me just say it again, this is the best "super 8 motel" that you will ever stay at. not only is it cheap but rooms come with a fridge, microwave, dryer, ironing board and a coffee maker. try to stay in an upstairs room because the balcony is super nice.

they also have a sports pub, restaurant, hot tub, swimming pool, and a playground for some odd reason. there's a large open grass space for activities such as volleyball or frisbee.

this super 8 motel is located in the center of everything. safeway is only a 2-3 min drive down the road. it's close to heavenly village and ski resort so its the perfect place to stay for ski trips. for those of you who likes to gamble, harris and harvey's are also down the street (probably a 5 min drive). the lake is about a 5 min drive. super convenient location.

the only problem is parking. you have to park in the back of the motel but the way in is extremely unnoticeable and narrow.

Perfectly A-Ok for $55 a night.  The bed was big and comfortable, all the usual amenities were present, nothing stood out as being exceptionally good or bad.  It's exactly what a Super 8 should be, especially one that you're only using for sleeping purposes between snowboarding sessions.

I'm pleasantly surprised! We needed an inexpensive hotel room on a Saturday and I booked over the phone without seeing the property first. When we pulled up we immediately regretted booking here. It looked really run down at first glance. I didn't want to stay but we were on a time crunch so we checked in anyway. Wow! The lobby was so nice! The coffee machine was awesome and the front desk lady let us check in early. Still skeptical, I gave our room the white glove test. I manage a small boutique hotel in the Sacramento area and I know what to look for! It was SPOTLESS. I would love to steal their housekeeping staff for my property ;) It had a fridge, microwave, coffee maker and a huge balcony. The bed was very comfy, made up very nicely and the bedding was fresh. The soaps, shampoos and in-room cups were quality. I even took one of the cups home so I can order the same kind for my property :) We came back to the room late and found that we couldn't get the heater working. The sweet front desk girl sent maintenance up within 5 minutes to have a look. Seems it was user error after too much wedding champagne. Oops. The fact that a super 8 has 24 hr maintenance is impressive!  We will definitely stay here again whenever we don't feel like paying for a room at one of the casinos! Their housekeeping, maintenance and desk staff are excellent. For $65 it's a great value. They could definitely work on their curb appeal. We thought it was pretty sketchy when I first pulled in. The snow and mud weren't helping them though. There was a large chunk of cement missing from the stairs which is a safety hazzard. Curb appeal and exterior maintenance is the only reason for 4 instead of 5 stars. Everything else they are definitely doing right. Kudos to the general manager! I hope we have time to check out the breakfast and the cute little on site bar and grill next time.

I've stayed at many different places in Tahoe and many much more expensive than the Super 8, but the Super 8 is my "go to" place now.

It is one of the cheapest places(if not the cheapest place) to stay in Tahoe and the location is outstanding with easy access to Stateline and CA side at Heavenly.  The Brewery and an authentic Mexican restaurant and grocery store are located within walking distance.  If you know the roads, you can also by-pass Hwy 50 when it's backed up via Pioneer and local streets to get to easily get to the Nevada side.

The motel is kinda run down and minimally furnished -- it's Super 8 after all.  So, don't expect that much, but each room has a TV, hair dryer, microwave and frig.   They also have a free wireless connection that's fast enough to run Netflix instant movies. There's lots of parking in the back.  Get a room on the 2nd floor to avoid footfalls.  The walls are thin.  So, nothing you really can do about that except hope for reasonably quiet neighbors or just increase the volume on your TV or wear some earplugs.

Reservations are easily made online and they have a toll free number direct to the motel (not a national service center) where you can confirm, change and/or cancel your reservation as need be.  Check it out!

Stayed here after a concert and it served it's purpose. The building is older but the room seemed clean. If you are looking for a place to stay for more than a night this may not be the best choice but it was fine as a place to crash for the night.

This hotel is relatively dated. Fixtures, wall paper, and heating/ cooling units all look like they are probably the originals. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. They served breakfast, but it was just coffee, juice, mini muffins, and cereal. Overall, though, for being one of the cheapest places in the areas, I can't complain about anything.

For the cheapest rate I could find during Hot August Nights, this place served it's purpose.

Sure, it's not the god damn embassy suites, the carpets were dirty, but hey.... what do you expect?

Beds were comfortable, tv worked, had hot water, and a coffee maker. I was happy.

Only con... you have to SLAM the doors to get them to latch. Found this out when I woke up in the middle of the night with the damn door wide open! Good thing we were on the end and upstairs, no one ganked our shit.

You get what you pay for....maybe. I chose this place because I was traveling with my bulldog. The location was great and the bar Mos place was cool. You could watch the kids swim and have a drink. Then we went to the room. None of the lights worked. Until we found the extension cords and plugged things in. The mattresses were gross. Hair all over them. Long black human hair. Un identified splatters all over the walls. Stains all over carpet. The trim was hanging clearly from a locked door being kicked open. The toilet didn't flush. My kid cried because he didn't want to get in the bed or touch the sheets.  Expedia says no refunds..I sucked it up. No one slept. Come morning the bulldog was covered in welts. I had a roach on my leg. Expedia refunded my money!!!! We drove up to the Park Tahoe Inn. Nice place in the heart of town pet friendly and she gave it to us for the same price as the cock roach motel.

***WARNING: SUPER 8 IS PART OF THE WYNDHAM HOTEL GROUP AND THEY SELL YOUR INFORMATION TO 3RD PARTY VACATION COMPANIES TO SELL YOU TIMESHARES AND VACATION PACKAGES.***

On top of this place being a complete dump, franchise owners of the Super 8 have no control over their database as Wyndham Hotel Group has access to it and sells your information to 3rd party companies who attempt to sell you more vacation packages for the Wyndham Hotel Group.

1 star for the manager acknowledging that Wyndham taking my info and selling it was not ok and getting in touch with his franchise rep.

It's Super 8, not the (insert the high-class hotel of your choice).
Perfectly acceptable.
Some caveats are worth mentioning.

I don't get why motels are the only ones who still cling to CRT televisions.
The picture is horrific and you can't connect your iPad or more Plebeian Android device (Hi Jennifer!) to watch your own stuff. It's not endemic to Super 8, mind you, it's just a pet peeve.

No wi-fi. At least none that my iPad or iPhone could detect. Verizon 3G is prevalent  in the area though.

The shower head is so low that you have to do deep knee bends to wash your hair.

The usual assortment of mystery stains.

And...that's about it, really.

The microwave and refrigerator were clean and functional.
So was the bathroom.
The bed was firm and comfy.
The heater and AC both worked and are the knobs were all present and accounted for.
Even though I could hear a dog barking and a baby crying (two thirds of the Trifecta of Evil) when I returned with my pizza, that was the last I heard of them the entire night.
Check in was fast, check out was faster.
Reasonably priced.

Yeah, I'd stay there again.

I've stayed there a few times due to lack of options and it's pretty much what I expected.  Could be a little cleaner but you could probably say that about any Super 8 I guess.  Even though the Super 8 is closer to Heavenly, personally I'd rather stay at the Motel 6 down the road.  They are about the same price but the Motel 6 just feels cleaner overall.

Travel?
Travel with dogs?
Travel with dogs that need to poop and pee late night or early morning?

Super 8 was made with you. The biggest issue I have with taking the kids is where do I need to walk them when the greasy burger they had as a treat is cause for the doggie four step. This motel has a front and backdoor with the latter leading to a small open field with all the right sniffs to encourage the deed is done quickly and efficiently.

Rooms are large, (bigger than most studio apts. in San Francisco), with microwave and fridge. This isn't a luxury room, but when your pup has the runs it's truly mans best friend.

Motel 8 or not, forget this place and pitch a tent at Camp Richardson. The room is old, dirty and do not dare to use the shower. I barely wanted to use the toilet.

Even if every room in town is booked, like what happened to us, just stay home or go camping if you must come - just don't stay here.

We'll never stay here again nor let anyone we know stay here! Inhospitable office people (had to remind them both mornings to put out food!), broken concrete around pool's edge, wasp nest allowed to exist near hot tub, dirty room (mystery splash on ceiling, mildewy grout in shower, broken fixtures, FILTHY carpet), and concave mattresses.
Worst incident: our toilet backed up, we went to the office for a plunger (assuming from earlier office interactions that they would not likely provide the plumbing help in a timely manner) and the person behind the desk told us, "I don't know where the plunger is. Use the bathroom in the lobby." that was their solution.  Never again.  Seriously, this place should not be in operation.

Stayed here two nights ago with high hopes of having a mediocre night.  This place is awful!  Was staying in a pet friendly room which was saturated in carpet stains and reeked of cat urine.  There were some sketchy people hanging out outside, and people were literally hopping from balcony to balcony.  Someone even hopped onto our balcony in the middle of the night.  Bathroom shower was covered in mold. My bed was broken, sagging in the middle and had a terrible, fresh stain on the sheets.  Seemed unlikely this hotel is cleaned to health code. When we checked out, I alerted the front desk that the room smelled of urine and their response was "oh, pets aren't allowed in that room."  Well, news to Super8, there have been pets in that room because I have a pet and YOU assigned me to that room.    The ONLY nice part of this place is that there is a ton of green, grassy space which is helpful if you are traveling with a dog.  But if I were passing through again, I'd definitely splurge an extra $50 to stay somewhere significantly nicer.  You cold not pay me to stay at this place again.

with $60, a large dog, and being under 21, this place was a super sweet deal! I was scared to stay here because of some of these reviews, but I was pretty surprised. The room was pretty clean, sheets smelled fresh of laundry detergent, and I was in a smoking room and it didn't smell of smoke! The wall heater warmed up the room quickly, they have sealed disposable cups for use, the shower was as white as it could get. This is coming from a brat that was raised in Harrahs and Harveys for our family trips growing up! There were 3 things that bugged me- the microwave didn't work, the neighbors above us were making enough noise walking around to set my dog off for about 10 minutes, and there was a dog hair on the pillow. It could have been my dogs but I don't see how it could be when the sheets covered the pillow until I took them off- Just bring your own pillow cases like I did lol.

My mum has stayed here stayed here multiple times when she comes to visit us (okay, she came to visit our 18 month old). I don't know if they got a new manager or what happened this last time. The room was fine - hot water in the shower, clean sheets on the bed, etc - but the staff and management are HORRIBLE.

After she had asked her next door neighbors to quiet down three times (well past one AM) she finally went down to the office to ask for their help. As she was babysitting our daughter for the night, our toddler also ended up in the front office when she should have been asleep - not that she was sleeping anyway, what with the profanity coming through the wall and off the adjoining patio. The staff was rude and dismissive, and pretty much told her it wasn't their problem. When she's a paying customer with a BABY in her arms.

Grandma and kiddo were finally able to sleep after she resorted to calling the police around two AM. Needless to say, the manager got a verbal thrashing from a pissed off mama and they won't be getting any further business from us. I understand that Tahoe is a party town and you're going to hear your neighbors to a certain extent in any hotel, but this was absurd - I could hear the people next door when my mother called me. And to have the management do nothing? To the point of being rude? WTF.

Don't stay here unless you like to party hard and listen to others do the same.

Womp womp womp...that's what I get for going cheap.

This place is perfect for a group of 19-26 y/o snowboarders, who just want to crash after shredding the mountain for half the day.

The room needed a deep deep deep cleaning, as did the shower.  The sheets were rough and the mattresses must have been about 10 years old.  I checked out the 'Continental Breakfast' in the morning (6:00 - 9:00 am) and left with a small cup of OJ and a cup of coffee. They had some mini muffins and a couple choices of cereal, that's it.

I guess you get what you pay for. After tax, I paid $67 for one night. I don't think I'll be staying here anymore.

Super cheap, couldn't believe that we spent about $136 to stay from Saturday ~ Wednesday and they accept  pets. The room was a good size and clean (how ever I was a concerned about the one spot by the dresser that my dogs kept sniffing at ). They provided us with a goodie bag once we checked in. It was filled with trial size lotion, Irish spring body wash, some granola snacks and tooth paste ( i had my husband grab some extra bags ). They also provide the basic shampoo and soap in the bathroom.
There is tons of parking and if you are looking for real Mexican food you should stop by Los Mexicanos which is on the side street of the back parking lot. If you prefer Mexican food from Chevy's then i don't know if this restaurant is for you. Your taste buds might not be able to handle the yummyness. You can also eat at Mo's place which you can find if you step right out of your room or just go there for a good drink and stumble back to your room.

Front of this place is good the back is a bit worn.  Only three real dings I had on the place was a chair came apart (needed glue), the  bathroom seemed a bit worn out, and it need more outlets that could actually hold a plug once plugged in (who plugs would not hold a plug in them.  The continental breakfast was OK, but they had a decent sports bar/restaurant attached with decent food.  They offered a Hot Tub and a Pool which I did not use, mainly because I was taking part in the Valhalla Ren Faire.  IT was clean, quiet, cozy, and safe.  They offer daily maid service, which was a plus.  Cable TB with HBO.  A mini fridge and microwave in the room were good.  It was pretty close to everything I needed.  All in all, a better than average place (slightly), with a super friendly staff.

Worst motel I have EVER stayed in!!  We were there for one night.  We requested an upstairs room as we have a toddler.  When we arrived the carpet was filthy, walls had black marks all over, sheets and comforters were stained.  The bathroom floor was dirty.  We requested another room and the front desk accommodated.  However, the new room we were given was not any better.  The walls were covered in insect corpses and there were bugs crawling around on numerous occasions.  Plus, the condition of the room was the same as the upstairs room.  The clientele also looked a little scary.  We paid $102 for our room (after taxes and fees).  Even if you are desperate for a place to stay, please choose another motel.  Super 8 is disgusting!

My fiancée had booked a room for valentines day weekend, we were supposed to check in on Friday but had a change of plans and decided to check in on Saturday, he called before to let them know and they said it was fine, now fast forward to Saturday evening, we try to check in and they said they gave our room away because we didn't check in on Friday and they couldn't give us a refund and we would have to go through Priceline, we ended up having to get another hotel and spending more money. Long story short we got HALF of our money back, but based on most of these reviews I guess it a good thing we didn't spend the night there. AVOID SUPER 8 IN SOUTH LAKE TAHOE.

This place was without a doubt, the grossest, nastiest place I have ever stayed at. If you are looking for places in South Lake Tahoe and think that you want to save a few bucks, this place is NOT WORTH IT. Spend the extra money and stay somewhere else.

Our room had multiple bugs that I found during our two nights there. The bathroom was not clean and I felt so disgusted that I wore my flip flops into the shower. The paint was peeling on the walls and there was discoloration on the paint.

We stayed on the lower floor and could hear pounding every time someone walked above us. The breakfast in the morning was a disaster. The coffee was undrinkable and there was so much garbage on the tables, chairs, and food areas that on the second day we just skipped it all together.

I have no idea why this place has so many good reviews. Maybe all the newer clean rooms are hidden away for special guests or something. I have never stayed in a worse room.

STAY AWAY!

If you are going to pay more than $40 for a night here, stay elsewhere, despite the convenience of the location. The room was seriously gross, and not at all cheap for the holiday weekend. Can't believe how much we paid for a filthy room. There were sticky patches on the bedspread and on the damp rug, it smelled seriously funky, the nightstands were broken, the walls were dirty, the shower wasn't hot for more than 5 minutes, the hot water handle for the bathroom sink was broken and unusable, and we could practically hear our neighbors breathing. The breakfast was useless - hot brown water calling itself coffee and cheap packaged sugar bomb "pastries."

I'm just glad we didn't look under the bed until checkout. It was full of garbage - empty beer cans and water bottles. Wonder how long it's been since anyone has actually cleaned that room. The smell alone indicates months, if not years. I still can't get that moment I stepped barefoot on the rug and thought I had stepped in gum out of my head. Wore our shoes from then on. I won't try to describe the smell of the bedspread. Reliving it makes me nauseous.

I've traveled a lot, staying in hostels and budget guesthouses all over the world. This place is a close second for most disgusting place I've spent the night. There are tons of budget motels all around here, and many had vacancies even though it was a holiday. Don't book this place thinking you won't find anyplace else. Seriously.

Pros: good location, accepts dogs, nice grounds. Price was OK for non week-end stay.

Cons: the beds are old and hard and we couldn't sleep.  Our room was outdated, needs new beds, new paint, and new upholstery on one of the chairs.  The staff was not friendly at all.  Breakfast is 6 to 9 am and we were nastily denied a cup of coffee at 9.01 am when the receptionist was turning off the coffee machine and the breakfast was taken away.  I understand they don't want people coming late for their - very minimum breakfast, but they should be a little more lenient and cool about the time.  Most other chains have the coffee machines going on all day.

Conclusion: never again a Super 8! Spend a little more money and go somewhere else.

Stayed here again for four nights from 12/20-12/24/13 and upgrading my rating from two stars to three stars.  Super 8 is dirt cheap, close to Heavenly (there is a free shuttle to any of the Heavenly entrances right outside the motel or you can just drive 5 minutes up the street for free parking at the California Lodge) and offers all that a frugal snowboarder could ask for: a toasty room, hot shower, free Wi-Fi, microwave, fridge, free breakfast and enough cable channels to help one drift off to sleep after a long day on the slopes.  When one is paying ~$100 per day for lift tix and ~$15/pp for lunch on the slopes, its nice make up for it by saving some money on accommodations.

This time around, it wasn't noisy at all and the parking lot was clean.  Looks like the hot tub area got upgraded since last time around.  Super 8 is known for being the party destination and I'm sure it still gets rowdy there over NYE.  If you want more peace and quiet than I recommend getting a room on the second floor.  My only gripe this time around is that the bed was too hard.  After four nights I was grateful to be heading home to my own comfortable mattress.
