The Deerfield Lodge is by far the most comfy, warm, friendly place that we have ever stayed at!  Heather, Jocelyn & Robyn went out of their way to make us feel special.  They even took our puppy out for a walk when we went out during the day.  I loved the decor of the rooms as well as the "Bed and Breakfast"  type atmosphere.  You even get a goody bag filled with sample products in your room ( what girl does not love samples!)  The bathroom is filled with Bulgari products- shower gel, lip balm and even a tea bag for the jacuzzi bath!  You will not be disappointed by this lodge!

If you're going up to the Tahoe area, look no further, this place is amazing.   The front of the hotel makes you a little nervous about the overall quality of the place, but do not be fooled!  Inside you'll find lush surroundings.

Our suite boasted a thermostatically controlled gas fireplace in both the living room and bedroom.  Soft, squishy carpet that I'd put in my own house, a jacuzzi tub big enough for 3 or 4 people, slate floors, and so on.  Each room backed a beautiful green courtyard and had their own little cafe table/chairs to enjoy it all with.

Breakfast in the morning was lovely, freshly baked cinnamon bread and oatmeal with Apricots were my favorite, though it was all very yummy.

The staff was very friendly and did everything they could to make us feel at home and welcome.

Really liked this place. Great location, very charming, good breakfast, and Heather at the front desk is really awesome. She's very attentive and her recommendations for activities and food were perfect. I highly recommend the place.

After committing to meet friends in Tahoe for Thanksgiving weekend without a place to stay with our two big dogs, we were frantically searching for lodging that was dog-friendly (and yes, many hotels say they take dogs but they must be under 35 lbs?!).  A friend recommended The Deerfield Lodge and from our first communication through check-out, the experience was fantastic (thank you Heather & Robin!).  Here is the quick run down -

Room: We were upgraded to a King Suite, which was giant!  Leather sofa and chair plus fireplace and full bathroom in the living room and king size bed and fireplace in the bedroom.  And the bathroom was huge!  XL spa tub and separate shower.  Seriously, you could get lost in this room.  Plus, there is a sliding glass door that opens to a courtyard where kids built snow people and the dogs could romp.

Food: Breakfast was plentiful - oatmeal, muesli, cereal, bagels, blueberry bread, cinnamon rolls, coffee cake, yogurt, coffee, tea and hot chocolate.  Happy Hour with wine and snacks was a nice way for the guests to chit chat.

Staff/Owner: Heather and Robin really were over the top in making us feel welcome and cared for with restaurant recommendations, dog walks, and even travel tips for our next trip to Arizona!

Don't be put off by the external appearance of The Deerfield and assume that this is a bad Tahoe motel where the doors open to the parking lot.  This is a quality run inn with nicely appointed rooms and an amazing staff and innkeeper!

What a fabulous place to stay near Heavenly! The owners are incredibly friendly and helpful, and the rooms are really big and tastefully decorated.  We arrived after hours and the key was waiting for us, as well as a surprise room upgrade, and a delicious basket of goodies.  We will definitely stay here again, and I recommend the Deerfield wholeheartedly to anyone looking for a nice place to stay near Heavenly.

I was recommended by my cousin to try this place out, as we've been frequently disappointed in the out of date cabins, casino hotels and cheap motels we've both experienced over the years....

This lodge is just the right amount of casual yet luxurious, friendly and cozy without being a B&B (where you feel like you are in someone's home) and close enough but not too close to the highway 50 action! It's pet friendly, and you don't have to sign a long list of rules signing away your life as you check in...that always makes me feel so "untrusted"...haha, as my dog doesn't have accidents and is very well crate trained. (I think she is better behaved than some of my friends kids!!).  I only like to travel with my dog , because she is extremely adaptable and well behaved...I would hope others are the same, but regardless I often feel so "penalized" by hotels.  Most places won't let you leave your pet in the room and these are often places that I don't really want to stay at anyhow, so this is a great find if you are looking for a trip with your pooch.

Anyhow, if you too are tired of the 1970's decor in those cabins and prefer more luxury than the Fantasy Inn...this is the place for you. We will definitely be back!

Do yourself a favor and BOOK Deerfield Lodge!  They are incredible.  Friendly staff that remembers you when you return.  Heather is awesome!  They are also pet friendly!!!  Oh and don't get me started on their rooms!  The bed is so comfy and plush, I sleep like a log every time we are there.  The rooms are beautiful to boot!  We've stayed in a regular king bed room and one of their suites too.  The suite was crazy!  Giant jacuzzi tub and separate shower. It was like a mini apartment.  Fireplace, patio, fridge, loves it!  Can't wait to go back:)

I stayed at this hotel back in April of last year and LOVED IT!!!  So did our dog Zeus.

The room we booked was huge, but it was very cozy.  It's location was fantastic, and the breakfasts were quite yummy!  I especially loved that the owners and staff were so attentive to our needs and to Zeus'.

It's definitely turned into the ONLY place we'll stay when we're in South Lake Tahoe!

If ONLY I could give the Deerfield Lodge more stars.  WOW!!!  You must stay here!  It's right on Ski Run Blvd. at the bottom of Heavenly and a 5 minute drive to the casinos.  The staff is absolutely friendly.  No, friendly is not the word...they make you feel COMPLETELY at home.  The staff is so hospitable.  When we arrived, there weren't many people since it was the middle of the week, they upgraded our regular room to a suite.  Suite indeed.  Brown leather living room set, kitchenette, 2 FULL bathrooms, a desk, free WIFI, neutral, warm colored walls, beautiful (not hotel casino cheesy) décor and most importantly DOG FRIENDLY!  I will definitely be back.  I'll probably end up booking my wedding here:)

What a great place!    This was our first visit to Lake Tahoe and we were extremely pleased with our choice of accommodations.   Great rooms with wonderful hosts in Robin and Eric.  If our travels take us back we are sure to be repeat customers.  We walked to restaurants every evening.   We especially liked Cafe Fiori.   Suggest a reservation well in advance at the restaurant.

Two friends of mine recently got married and stayed here on their wedding night. I wanted to do something special for them, so I called the The Deerfield Lodge and asked what they might be able to provide.  Not only was the staff very enthusiastic about assisting me, they went above and beyond to make sure that my friends got a wonderful surprise. I asked for champagne and roses to be put in their room, and Spence and Ali's beautiful presentation EXCEEDED MY EXPECTATIONS BY FAR (especially by including thoughtful touches like special wedding napkins, a few chocolates and treats, and a lovely card). They even emailed me a few pictures of the final set-up so that I could see what they put together for my friends! Also, they were very fair in their pricing and didn't try to take advantage of the fact that I was purchasing over the phone. The CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS EXCELLENT, and I was so pleased with the experience of dealing with them by phone, that I am eager to stay there the next time Im in Lake Tahoe.  My friends were very happy with their stay and had great things to say about the place! Thank you for a wonderful experience!!!

My partner and I have stayed here on two occasions and LoVe this place!  There are so many perks:  Great location, spacious rooms, very clean, hot tub in room, fireplace and hospitality.  Although, the best feature is the owners.  Robin sat with us for an hour, by the fireplace, and gave us insider suggestions for shopping, meals and ski rentals.  Her husband chatted with my partner about Chicago, their home town.  Turns out the lodge is named after a town near Chicago, how serendipitous.
Also an excellent italian restaurant right across the street:)

Kaylen and I can't wait to make a trip back up there, hopefully soon.
We love you Robin!

Great place for a romantic get away. Actually we're local and some friends got us a suite here for our wedding night. It was perfect! The room was very clean elegant. Our suite had a nice living room with plenty of seating and a guest bathroom. The bedroom was large and had a very confy bed. the bathroom was  nice and modern.

The grounds are beautiful! This is definately one of the more elegand modern hotels in Lake Tahoe. I would recemond this place to anyone looking for a romantic get away, and even as a local I would stay there again for a night out.

We had a wonderful weekend at The Deerfield Lodge.  Robin was so fun and helpful.  She even gave us a bottle of wine to enjoy!  Loved having the 2 rooms, one to sleep in and one to relax in - both with fireplaces.  The Lodge has great bed,  linens and bathrooms too!  This Lodge is located right across the street from 2 good restaurants and it was wonderful to walk along snow lines streets to eat and not have to drive back.  A magical weekend!

This is a beautiful place. It was decadent, spotless, and truly relaxing. We stayed in a king suite. The bed was comfortable with separate feather duvets for each of us. The jacuzzi tub was nice, showers great too. Having two bathrooms was awesome. We never heard anyone else the whole time we were there.

We had an awful time finding a decent place to eat in the town. Looking back, I would have ordered pizza in and enjoyed the suite longer.

Great place, I can't imagine anything better especially if you're planning a nice weekend and don't want a place with a lot of children running around.

My fiancé and I stayed here for New Years Eve weekend and absolutely LOVED it!  I do not have enough good things to say about this place.  The owners are so sweet and personable.

The rooms are gorgeous and the jaccuzzi tubs are amazing!! There is nothing better than soaking in that tub after a full day of skiing.  Also, our chocolate lab was welcomed there and had fun playing in the snow with their lab ;)

Overall, we had a fantastic trip and will definitely recommend this lodge to family, friends, and fellow yelpers.  Can't wait to return to Deerfield Lodge next NYE!  Thanks, Robyn, for making sure our weekend was great!

This was our first visit to Deerfield Lodge, but I'm sure we'll be back in the future.

This place is DOG-Friendly!  Our dog was so excited to go explore the surrounding landscaping. There's a big lawn where dogs can romp, and lots of trees for marking.  Our room was spacious, with plenty of room for our dog's bed and for him to not be underfoot.  Street is well-lit for evening strolls.

Location is great--right on Ski Run, and minutes from everything.  Breakfast is simple and convenient--they have great blueberry bread, plus there's coffee, pastries, yogurt, fruit, cereals, etc.  Bed was comfy and had plenty of blankets. There's a mini fridge, microwave and coffeemaker too.

This would be a five-star review, except that our room was a bit noisy--we could hear footsteps in the room above us.  Most of that is due to the way the lodge is built, since our room was next to the stairwell.  We did talk with the staff about it upon checkout, and they did tell us that our room has the most issues with noise--they also said that if they aren't full, then they usually move guests from that room to another room.

The owners and staff love having dogs as guests, and went out of their way to meet and play with the different canine guests.

Overall, we really enjoyed our stay, and found the Deerfield Lodge to be very comfortable. We'll be back!

My husband and I chose the The Deerfield Lodge as our host lodge for our recent wedding. We reserved all twelve rooms for our wedding party guests and additional friends/family.
From the time of our arrival and throughout the duration of our stay both Robin and Eric were so welcoming and hospitable. The lodge accommodations are top notch and create a very romantic Lake Tahoe cabin ambiance.
Our family and friends were very impressed by the accommodations as well as the outdoor landscaping.
The Deerfield Lodge is surrounded by a very peaceful forest environment and only minutes away from all the major attractions in South Lake Tahoe.
Having grown up spending summers and winters in South Lake Tahoe, without question The Deerfield Lodge has been the best hotel/lodge experience yet. We can't wait to visit again !

My husband and I have stayed here twice now and love it here!  The rooms are beautiful and cozy, a combination of cabin feel and modern elegance.  The beds are so comfortable and each room is heated by a fireplace.  The best part is that dogs of all sizes are allowed to stay here, so we are always able to bring our little furbaby.  They do charge a one time pet fee, but all pet fees are donated to the Lake Tahoe Pet Society.  The first time we stayed here we got a standard king room on the second floor. The complimentary breakfast was a great spread that included a variety of cereals, yogurt, breads, fruit, and oatmeal. The second time we stayed here they did not have any more standard rooms so we ended up with a first floor suite, which included a jacuzzi spa, living room area, and two bathrooms. We must have come when most people had already left (Sat-Mon) because the breakfast this time was much more limited.

As wonderful as Deerfield Lodge is, there is some room for improvement:

1) Replace the old school TVs with flat panel LCD TVs.

2) Wi-Fi access in every room. Right now only a few rooms closest to the lobby have access, and a spotty one at that.

Looking forward to coming back again!

We came here for our friends wedding weekend and the staff was so great and accommodating.  The rooms were nice and the property was well kept.  They allow dogs and only ask for a donation to the local SPCA.

Most of the rooms were suites, but we had a single room and it had plenty of space for us and our 80 lb lap dog.

The location is central to a lot of activities and was actually a great walk down to the lake.

It's a little spendier than other places in the area, but you get what you paid for.

AVERAGE, AT BEST.  My husband and I stayed 5 nights at the Deerfield Lodge this past week in a King Suite.  While the room was nice and large and the 2 staff members we met very nice, the property was lacking amenities of any kind.  They were kind enough to get a radio for my room (as my husband has a radio show in Lake Tahoe), and that was very appreciated.  In the 5 nights we were there, the room was never vaccuumed, sheets never changed, bathroom shampoos, etc. never replaced, even when empty.  I did not feel that the room and bathrooms were really clean at any time.  Dirty drinking glasses were not replaced with clean ones, either.  I had to wash them out in the bathroom and let them dry!  In addition, there were only 2 ceiling fans (no A/C) and it wasn't sufficient.  Finally, there is NO Soundproofing between rooms.  We could hear the people in the next room (thankfully, we only had one common wall) talking as though they were in the room with us!  They were having a conversation at 7 a.m. and it totally woke us up.  They weren't talking loud, either.   The property has a rundown appearance.  Andrea and the front desk clerk and very nice.  I never met Spence.  These seem like nice people, but the property needs a lot of work.  This is not a four star property.  It is an old motel that was re-done at some time in the last few years.

Beware of the Deerfiled -- they specialize in false represenations and are the least friendly hotel owners I've ever encountered.

I made a reservation to stay for 4 nights with my husband and my parents, who were coming to Northern California for a visit.  We were considering a few different hotel/B&B options, and chose the Deerfield because they said they could offer us a room which had 2 bedrooms and 2 baths with a joined living room -- so a 2/2 suite.  I made the reservation about 8 months in advance since we were coming up for a planned event.  I was very clear that we had 4 adults, and the email confirmation I received acknowledged this as well.  I then proceeded to confirm my reservation via phone with the owners at least twice.  Given our absolute need for 2 separate bedrooms, I could not have been clearer -- I have long since reached the age where I will share a bedroom with another couple, let alone my parents.  Each time I called and spoke with the owner, the were almost rude about having to confirm my reservation, each time answering with an exasperated tone that, yes, we had our 2 bedrooms and 2 baths.

As soon as we arrived on the busiest day of the summer in Tahoe -- the 4th of July -- and walked into the lobby, the owner looked at us and said "and, who will be staying in the room, because, you know, it's one bedroom with 2 queen beds."  Needless to say, I was furious.  They had no other available rooms and did not offer to try and accomodate us.  The owner accused me of lying about what I had understood the reservation to be.  I then asked whether she thought the B&B next door might have a room, at which point she said she didn't know and did not offer to call and check.  My husband and I were  able to get another room at the B&B (which was amazing -- see my related review of the Black Bear Inn).  Despite the clear misrepresentation, the Deerfield would not let us out of the reservation.  So, we ended up paying double what we would have if we had just opted for another hotel in the first place.

When I returned to the Deerfield to confirm with my parents that we were able to secure another room, they also noted that we were lucky since our new hotel had breakfast.  I was shocked to hear that they had been informed by the Deerfield that no breakfast was included, as the front page of their website says "contintental breakfast" included.  When I raised this with the owner, she literally said:  "you need to read the fine print, it says we have breakfast baskets.  I'm not a B&B, I don't get up that early."  The tone with which she said this was with complete disdain.  I double-checked the website, and you have to click onto another page to see that they do offer breakfast baskets --- but, nowhere do they state that this is the same as their offered "continental breakfast."  By the way, the baskets include some candy bars, a dreadful looking loaf of unidentifiable bread, and a plain old apple and orange.  Not exactly what I would eat for breakfast.

These were just the start of the lies.  Another one:  wine and cheese hour from 4-5.  No such event exists at the Deerfield.  Their "wine" hour consists of a bad bottle of red wine left out on the counter for you to drink.  These were the big ones, but it seemed that nearly everything they told us turned out to be false.

Since we didn't end up sleeping at the Deerfield, I can't speak to their amenities.  The rooms appeared clean, but for the high cost not exactly worth it.  Save yourself the headache and book somewhere else in Tahoe.

FIVE STAR LODGING AND STELLAR SERVICE IN SOUTH LAKE TAHOE!!

I'm a big fan of small and intimate boutique lodgings, especially in the mountains of the world and this place doesn't disappoint.

This is definitely my go to place when riding Bessie in this neck of the sierras.

My only recommendations would be:

1- Ensure your fireplaces operate during summer months (who doesn't enjoy a fire anytime of year?).

2- Create a more varied selection of delectable goodies for breakfast (scones, more muffins, croissants, etc) and stronger coffee.

3- Although we heard the heavy walking upstairs neighbor get her freak on at 2am (actually, I think everybody in South Lake Tahoe heard her), there's nothing you can really do now about soundproofing.

Besides, who hasn't heard somebody get their hotel freak on in the middle of the night, right?

I discovered the Deerfield Lodge using Yelp and what a find it turned out to be!  The owner, Robin was so friendly, helpful, and accomodating when I made the reservation.  Unbeknown to me, she was also very helpful to my soon-to-be fiance  in planning and executing a wonderful marriage proposal in advance of our arrival.

The accomodations were perfect.  We stayed during a quiet time of year in between seasons (we may have been the only guests at the lodge that weekend!), but we felt like we were very well taken care of and attended to.

The bed was extremely comfortable and there was a lot of room to spread out and relax.  It's the right combination of feeling tucked away and close to the action nearby.

We will definitley return to the Deerfield Lodge.

Really odd experience. Great room and very nice grounds.
But the lobby was only opened 9am to 5 pm. After that, you're on your own.

And the person who was staffing the desk, although very nice, had only been in Tahoe for 2 weeks and was unable to give any recommendations for restaurants, sights, etc.

They advertise WiFi but it didn't work at all and no attempt was made to restore it. The phones in the room didn't work, neither of them. It seemed like they had been disconnected. The guests upstairs had 2 dogs that barked a lot. The down side to being pet friendly is that sometimes it makes the facility a less people friendly.

Not a horrible stay, but disappointing for sure. Would try someplace else next time.

It's pet friendly lodge with very clean rooms and friendly stuff that makes you feel welcomed. Ali is great, always makes you feel very special and helpful when you need her. Complimentary bottle of wine every night, best jacuzzi bath tubs and great location are the reasons why my family keeps coming back to Deerfield Dodge.

My now-husband and I have been to this hotel twice for our visits to Lake Tahoe, and for good reason - they have some of the nicest rooms we've stayed in during our travels. The rooms are nice and cozy, and if you pay for a better room, you get a bedroom, an entertainment/den room, and two bathrooms, one of which has a Jacuzzi. The shower stalls were excellent for my husband as they use rain showers and he often has trouble finding a shower he fits into properly (tall).

The customer service has been good to us both times. On our most recent trip we had come to get married, but it was difficult to find a florist open on sundays. We picked up our flowers the day beforehand, but were concerned about them wilting so we used the hotel fridge to keep them cool. Unfortunately, they still went south overnight in the fridge but the lady at the desk, Robin, was amazing and went to get us a new bouquet and lapel flower before we had any idea that there was a problem.

The only downsides we found were that the wifi was still a bit shoddy - our room this time didn't seem to have it at all - and we noticed a small mess between the left nightstand and bed that the cleaning staff either missed or couldn't remove. There are lots of handy amenities near the hotel (Red Hut is a great place to go for breakfast) and the lake itself is within walking distance. We'd definitely come back if we visit again.

The worst, you deserve better.  An old motel, posing as a deception (boutique hotel) with no service, despite repeated request.  The front desk must read from a script that says, "We're busy now but will get to it wen we cal. Don't be fooled by the positive reviews.  As a world traveler, ranging from five star hotels in big cities to very most lodgings in third world countries, this was a "never return".  As a reviewer professional( published in the New York Times), I don't like giving negative reviews.  Doing and reading reviews, serves to greatly alert me and we travelers need all the help we can get. Thanks to the many who have guided me.  We never get that time and money back again.  To start I Emailed them about computer connectivity and was assured, everything worked.  During my entire one week stay, my top condition computer, never once was able to connect.  The signal was strong to the Lodge, but stopped there.  During this time I was waiting at the Lodge entrance, where I was told the computer tech would get the key and we would go together  Never happened and their internet access as still failed. This is  a violation of my privacy and everything my the computer is there to see.  The Lodge should recognize that my computer is my property, not theirs.  I don't want anyone "in"  my computer, unless I am there and would have refused to have a computer is excellent condition, "reconfigured".  The service was atrocious. Asked at various times/days for toilet paper, had no towels, bed was not made, etc.  Always the same answer from the front desk, they are busy now and will get to it when they can, more repeated failures. I have not objection to "pet friendly", except when was walked to the front desk across a small lawn and stepped into dog poop.  The other time was, was in a hurry to meet friends for dinner and as I was getting in my car, stepped in dog poop again.  I  realized it, when I turned on the motor and put my foot on the pedal,  Now, in was both on my shoe and my pedal.  The smell is so strong, even though I put my shoe in the trunk and wiped over the pedal, the stink was painfully pungent.  Finally, I asked for a very quiet room and was told it was.  Except in was directly over the metal trash collection container.  It was repeatedly noisy, from things being throw in and the lid slamming down and, of course, when during regular pick-ups.  Generally, when there are too many good reviews, short and not very specific, it creates suspicion, the same with negative.  My suspicion and other,  complaints not posted, were well justified.  What was good: a free apple..  Doing and reading reviews, serves to greatly alert me and we travelers need all the help we can get. Very nice place to stay. Rooms are very nice and spacious. The walls are a tad thin, so I would choose an upstairs room next time if it were available. Grounds are very well kept and has a cozy feel to it. Ali was wonderful during our stay. She was very helpful with places to eat and things to do in the area and always pleasant to talk to. I booked several rooms here for a wedding party and was complimented by everyone on the choice of hotels.

This place is actually really really nice. It's pricey, but you get a lot for your buck. My room had 2 full bathrooms, one of which had a jacuzzi!! The suite was very spacious and came with plenty of amenities. We visited on Valentine's Day weekend a couple months ago and when we arrived in our room, there was a bottle of complimentary champagne and box of chocolates which was very nice and thoughtful. There was also complimentary coffee, breakfast food, and other snacks in our room as well. I really liked that both the living room and the bedroom had a fireplace. The jacuzzi also worked very well. The continental breakfast in the morning was actually pretty good. I liked the pastries that they bought. As someone else had mentioned, I also liked the spacious entrance area at the front door of the room which allows you to hang your jackets/put away your shoes/boots after a long day on the slopes.

But the reason for the 3 stars? The very very thin floors/walls. Throughout our whole weekend we heard footsteps of from the floor above which was getting pretty frustrating. There was a family with kids above us and their kids were running around the entire day and night which really disrupted our weekend stay.

Otherwise, I truly loved this place for its amenities and spacious rooms. It just has one major flaw (the poor noise isolation between rooms/floors) which should be fixed asap. Once it does, it will definitely be the best hotel in the area in my opinion.

My wife and I had the pleasure of staying at The Deerfield Lodge this past weekend and this cozy, dog friendly lodge made our stay very special!  We stayed here years ago for our wedding night and had such a great experience, we couldn't wait to come back to celebrate our anniversary here.

While we were checking in, the new owner of this boutique lodge, Spence, greeted my wife and I and welcomed us.  The staff here is super friendly and were happy to give our dog plenty of love while checking in.  They even offered to watch Maddie (our Labrador) if we wanted to go out and do something and couldn't take her.  We never took them up on this very kind offer but were thankful they offered.

The rooms are absolutely beautiful! On our last visit we stayed in a suite which we will never forget.  On this trip we stayed in a single room which was nice and cozy.  The bed was very plush and comfy, we loved the decor, the brick fireplace, nice furniture, and mini kitchen, very nice indeed..

My wife is pregnant and needed some extra pillows to get comfortable, but it was after hours.  We hesitated but called the number on the nightstand for after hours requests and they kindly brought us pillows, great service all the way around!

The grounds are beautiful, pretty trees and flowers all over, chipmunks and squirrel running around the grounds, staying here definitely makes a trip/vacation special!

When I first arrived I was very impressed with the serenity of the inner courtyard. I had my dog with me and was quite happy to have a place to sit outside with him and relax. However, there was some kind of problem with the sprinklers and they were running nonstop the entire time I was there. The grass was swamped. I would have expected them to fix this problem promptly, give the current drought crisis. I also noticed that the groundsman was spraying Roundup all over the plants and courtyard area. This really should not be done ever, but especially not when so many people are bringing their dogs to stay here. So hopefully they can clean up their act and then I would give it four stars.

My husband and I decided upon a spontaneous trip to Lake Tahoe, and came across Deerfield Lodge by researching online. Although the lodge looked beautiful online, we still felt skeptical. Left with little time and options, we called to make a reservation and was surprised to actually be speaking to the owner. Spence, the owner, was very hospitable and provided us with amazing customer service from check-in to check-out.

We booked and stayed in the double queen suite and were very pleased with the accommodations. It was a beauty! Captured the very essence of Lake Tahoe with the wood furnishings and combination of naturesque and modern interior design. The suite was roomy and had many desirable amenities to choose from. Balcony view on-looking the property was gorgeous!

When we return in the very near future, there will be no need for us to look for any other hotel/lodge, Deerfield Lodge is our Lake Tahoe home, and we look very forward to returning.

One downside was the jacuzzi tub, although wonderful, the jets were a bit noisy and didn't feel comfortable using it to its full capacity in fear of disturbing our neighboring lodgers.

Came here 5 months ago and forgot to review. Shame on me. This place is great! They are truly dog friendly (very important to me). Our king suite was huge and super cozy. A comfy bed and fireplace in the bedroom. Our living room was very spacious and  charming, it even had a "mini kitchen" (cupboard with coffee maker, microwave, mini fridge and a breakfast basket) and  fire place. Two large bathrooms, with shower and large Jacuzzi for 2. The view is lovely and (maybe because it was a weekday?) super silent too. The staff was absolutely great. I also remember courtesy wine and free wi-fi. We had a really great time here. If I ever visit South Lake Tahoe again, I will most certainly stay at Deerfield Lodge.

My husband and I stayed with our dog at the Deerfield Lodge for 3 nights. The room was nice and suited our needs - the jacuzzi tub was a nice addition. The outside grounds were very nice and we enjoyed use of the fire pit and complimentary s'more ingredients.

That being said, we encountered some service issues that need to be addressed.

1) This is a dog-friendly hotel. They advertise on their website that they have recommended pet sitters if you need one during your stay and that they offer recommendations of pet-friendly restaurants and activities.  This is one of the main reasons we booked this place. However, when we arrived at 5:30 I asked the man working the desk if he could recommend somewhere to eat where we could bring our dog. He said he had no idea. I then asked for the list of pet sitters as stated on the website. He responded "oh, it says that on the website?" Absolutely no help. I even asked a different women working if we were allowed to leave our dog in the room alone for any length of time. She responded "I don't know." These are basic things the staff should know! The next morning a much more helpful and friendly women showed us a binder of pet-friendly information that is kept in the lobby. However, still no pet sitters. We ended up finding a doggie daycare service on our own.

2) When we came back from hiking on day 2, we found a basket of new towels by the door to our room and a note that said our room hadn't been cleaned because the cleaning service was unable to get into our room. Thinking perhaps we had locked the room in a way that we shouldn't have (using the inside lock), we asked the front desk what had happened. They responded that their master key doesn't unlock our room and they haven't been able to get it fixed yet. They had no way of unlocking our room ... OK so if they knew all along that they were not going to be able to get into our room to clean it, why did they not tell us this upon arrival? Also, what if we had misplaced our key? They would have had no way of letting us back in. The woman who we talked to about this problem was similarly apathetic and unhelpful like the man the night before. The next day we left one of our two keys with the front desk when we left so that they could clean our room. However, we had to initiate this conversation and ask how we could get our room cleaned the next day as they were not proactive at all.

So bottom line is that the hotel itself is nice but the service really needs improving. I don't think it was worth the $$ we paid.

We had a wonderful stay at Deerfield Lodge last weekend. The managers were very helpful and welcoming and the room was much nicer than expected. The property is well maintained and nicely located on Ski Run. I would recommend Deerfield to anyone looking for a really nice place at a fair price. A real gem...

Excellent DOG Friendly Lodge!

My wife and I really wanted to bring our dog with us on a summer trip to Tahoe, so we found this place and (based on the reviews) looked to be the most accommodating. Considering this was my first pet friendly location, I was surprised at how clean the place was. Our room was in immaculate condition and the grounds were well kept. The room was serviced daily and its only a block away from the main strip and within walking distance of a few pet friendly restaurants as well. If we stay in Tahoe again, this place will definitely be on the top of the list!

Came here for the snow with wifey, Boston biggie, and daughter Amber. Staff was very nice. Came on a weekday so not too many ppl not any noise. Yes you can hear ppl here and there  it's not sound proof but no hotel I know is either. I like how the living room is separate from the master bedroom. Both rooms gas fire place heated with digital temp controls. Amber is very sensitive to noise but she was able to manage to sleep through the night. Safe location no signs of danger or shady ppl. Close to all the casinos and shops and the lake walking distance if you're a walker or hiker. Definitely will come back.

First I have to say the customer service is awesome and the people their are very kind and helpful. The rooms are amazing and the location has to be the best I've ever experienced.

My lovely fiancee surprised me with a two night stay and since we arrived late they left the key under the mat for us and even hooked it up with a discount. Very cool!

I would have given it 5 stars if they had an iron/ironing board included, a real breakfast and if they changed the sheets after the first night but other than that this place is a must stay.

The rooms are the beautiful and comfortable.

Nice rooms, relaxing courtyard environment, and very enjoyable spa tubs in the bathrooms.

On the downside, the floors are quite thin. My wife, toddler son and I had the misfortune of a room under guests with two young boys who stomped around all day and night. It woke my toddler from his night sleep, and anyone who has had kids knows what a massive frustration that is.

That's really the only downside. But, it is a big side, thus, gotta knock off a star. If you have a room under kids like we did, you will be sorry. Ask for a 2nd floor room to be safe.

Other reviewers complain about the snacks and how staff doesn't kiss their rear end. I have two words for them: Ritz Carlton. Those of us who prefer small lodge character prefer being left alone to explore what the area beyond the parking lot has to offer.

This review is not based on a hotel stay but rather my experience with the staff over the phone. I was trying to get a gift certificate to the Lodge for my parents 30th wedding anniversary.

When I first called, Cynthia answered but didn't know how to process a gift certificate. I had to wait another day so she could be trained and she told me she would call me back. Never did. I called and got a hold of Ben who said he could help me. I was very clear that I needed the gift certificate for my parents 30th wedding anniversary. I told him when the party was and gave him an address to mail the certificate to. 8 days go by and the party comes and goes with no gift certificate in the mail. I call back after the party and speak with Taylor who says she doesn't know anything about the transaction but will try to contact Ben and Cynthia to get to the bottom of the problem. She promises to call me back within the hour. Never did. I call back later and they can't confirm it was ever mailed but that they would send it out that day. I said thanks but the party was last week so it will be arriving 2 weeks too late. They gave me an insincere apology and tried as fast as possible to get off the phone with me.

My biggest problem with my experience was the awful apology and fact that they did nothing to help relieve the problem. You are in the hospitality business, you just ruined someones 30th anniversary gift and all you can do is give a terrible apology? It speaks volumes for the type of people they are as well as how they treat their customers. Hopefully my parents have a better experience than I did.

Very thin walls surrounded by beautiful scenery and friendly staff. I would give this hotel five stars if it weren't for the very thin walls. We stayed in a single queen size room on the ground floor.

If I were ever to return to this hotel I would request to stay on the second floor. Staying on the ground floor I could hear every single step the people above me took. Unfortunately I am not exaggerating.

This wouldn't be too much of a problem if the sound was just an occasional dull, thumping noise, but it wasn't. Every step was accompanied by a loud wood creaking noise in the ceiling that practically made my room uninhabitable, especially because the guests above us would not sit still. The sad part is they probably don't realize they are making so much noise. I couldn't imagine how much worse it would be if they had a couple of kids running around.

The hotel room itself was beautiful, and as soon as you step outside in the courtyard area you are enveloped in the beauty of Lake Tahoe, tall trees, blue skies, and luscious green grass.

Our bathroom was fairly small but nice. The bed was comfortable. There is no air conditioning, but there is a working fireplace below the small, fuzzy tv.

Unfortunately, all of the beauty and friendliness in the world cannot offset the thin walls in this hotel. I could literally hear someone checking their voicemail on their phone through the walls. You will hear other guests conversations clearly. You will hear people walking on the balcony above you. You will hear people dragging their luggage across the floor. You will hear people opening and closing their doors.

A hotel is supposed to give you comfort away from home and a nice place to rest once you are done with a day full of the activities Lake Tahoe has to offer. Sadly, this hotel made me wish I had stayed somewhere else.

I decided to give it a try based on the four and a half star average even though I read about the thin walls in other reviews. I thought that the noise would be tolerable, but it is not especially for the price. We paid 420 dollars for a two night stay in a hotel where we could hear people coughing and talking as though they were sitting right next to us.

Pros:

Newly redecorated rooms with microwave and refrigerator
Beautiful, spacious courtyard
Pet friendly
Free wifi, as long as your room is close enough to the lobby
Very friendly and courteous staff
5 minute drive away from the Heavenly Shops and Casino area.

Cons:

Very thin walls
No air conditioning
Pricey
Main office is not staffed 24 hours
Minimal parking
Small tv with terrible picture quality
Small room (single queen size)
Restless feeling due to the noise instead of a relaxed feeling that should be accompanied by a vacation
No mirror in the room to check yourself before you head out. There is a very small mirror above the sink in the bathroom

The Deerfield Lodge is a good place. It is an excellent dog friendly lodge with a very easy going dog policy (no deposit, great area for walks, etc).

I really enjoyed this place - we stayed in a 1Br suite with a separate bedroom and living room. The suite was incredibly large with two bathrooms and nice furnishings.

Great place. I will be back next winter.

I have to give this two stars because I paid $399 for a two night stay and could not sleep because it was so dang hot in my room. There is no a/c in this hotel! I understand that the summers are short in Tahoe but there should be a way to bring the cool night air into your room. The thermostat read 77/78 degrees both evenings and well u might think sleep with the window open... Well I would have but the only window was a door with no screen on it. Anyone would have been able to walk into my room while I slept since I was on the first floor.

The rooms themselves have nice finishes and the outside area is nice. My bed had two twin size comforters to cover a king bed (very odd) and the comforters had holes in them. The sheets were pilling which means they are old and not something you want to feel on your skin.

The walls are super thin and I could hear every step my neighbor upstairs took... Which was fun since I couldn't sleep because of the heat. They gave me two keys and thankfully they did because one of them did not work in the door. Needless to say this experience left me a little frustrated.

When I checked out I was not asked how my stay was and when I let the guy know about the key he seamed to not really care..... I was so done with this place I didn't even address the heat in he room issue.

If you ever stay here stay upstairs and in the winter.

This place has beautiful rooms and grounds. This is the reason why we made a reservation months ago to stay here. Unfortunately....plans changed.   We called to cancel 3 weeks before our arrival date and was told  they will charge a $25.00 cancellation fee.  .
I have never been charged  a cancellation fee for cancelling a hotel reservation. I feel that a cancellation charge is anti-consumer and that the hotel is trying to make money off of people.   Tsk! Tsk!
Five days before the day we would've arrived, we received an email from booking.com to "confirm" the reservation.  We informed them the reservation was canceled over 2 weeks prior.  I emailed the hotel & they said we were to contact booking.com to cancel.  If I had known that, we would have.
Long story short: I received a reply email stating booking made through their old system & waiving $25 fee.  Today, I received my full refund. (finally)

We just had an unfortunate issue with canceling a reservation, but this hotel would be a beautiful place to stay.  Just be sure if you need to cancel, to cancel where you made the reservation & get a confirmation. (either the hotel directly or the booking site you used).

I really want to give this hotel 5 stars, I really do. And it would be 5 stars if it weren't for one thing..... THIN WALLS!!!!! And really, what is the point of a nice hotel if you can't sleep in it? The walls are so thin, I could clearly hear the couple in the room next to us having a VERY good time. Then they turned on the TV afterwards and that was loud enough to make it hard to get to sleep. Then they turned on the TV again at around 6am. Lovely. I didn't want to sleep on my vacation anyway....

But the staff was really wonderful and accommodating. They let us switch rooms, and were super sweet and nice about it. Of course, it was still loud wherever we went, the floors creak and no matter if you are on the top floor or bottom floor, you can hear people walking in the hallway(but its worse on the bottom!).

The showers and hot tubs are awesome, beds are comfy, they have a firm and a soft pillow on each bed, with extra pillows, too. Everything was wonderful, but I just can't get past the super thin walls. Not cool.

My boyfriend and I came here for a long weekend. The room was HUGE with a kitchen, 2 bathrooms (with 3 showers total), a jacuzzi, two TVs and a big bed. The room was also stocked with some snacks and the hotel offered some light breakfast as well as bottles of red and white wines which were free for taking.

Overall a great experience and would recommend!

This place is soooooooo nice!!

I love their service.  Although they are not open 24 hours...  and we arrived late in the afternoon.. and they close at 6pm.  They (actually there was only one lady working there at the time) really tried to accommodate  us as much as possible and make sure we are well taken care of, before they leave for the day.

And next morning, she is already there, with Continental breakfast ready on counter.

They were also extremely flexible with check out time (as long as there is no booking the next day).  so, we didn't have to rush to pack out stuffs in the morning, and was able to head out to the mountain early!

The room itself, very simply decor, roomy, nice and clean.  A breakfast/snack tray awaits you in the room, and every room has a Q-cup coffee machine inside along with the Q-cup coffees.  Hot chocolate/coffee, cookies/snacks and some fruits are available in the lobby throughout the day.  Also another Complementary, we also get to choose a bottle of wine from them as well...

Totally LOVE their the 2 full baths!!  the 2 full baths not only gives us privacy, also help with the morning rush as well!!  LIKE!!!  not to mention both bathrooms are nicely decor!!

Entry to the room also gives u extra space to hang your snow jackets and space to take off your snowy shoes before entering the room.

The only fall back are the thin walls...  in the middle of the night, around 4-5 am in the morning...  we were waken by the loud sounds and screams of the couple upstairs...  so u better wish your upstairs/next door neighbors are not having any kind of battle in their rooms...

This is an interesting place. It's an old motel that has been remodeled and done up in relatively high quality furnishings, décor, and design. The place has a wealth of barbeque/cook out pits and they apparently have packs of s'mores for après ski, etc. In the summer, there's a grassy courtyard with wildflowers and tall, beautiful pines and aspens that is very quaint.

The motel is close to most of what's good about South Lake -- the best restaurants are one block away. The beach is several blocks away and the ski resort is about a half mile or less (but uphill) in the other direction.

The staff is very friendly. They have something good going on here. I would definitely visit this place again.

They did some very special things for us when we mentioned we had just married, including a bottle of wine or champagne (tho we aren't drinkers), roses in the Jacuzzi (quite nice), some goodies, and a bouquet. They found out our likes for teas and whatnot and supplied those as well. Most importantly, they made my bride feel special.

So, we both felt pampered. For once. And who doesn't like that!
