Stayed there last weekend. Very rustic, found some dirt from 1999 in our room but the location, on the Taylor River made up for the lack of cleaning. Met the the owners, great people, food in the restaurant is average, but again there is a need for cleaning in the restaurant.
The bar is well stocked and bartender is friendly. If you are a fly fisherperson this is the place to stay.

This place was horrendous. We should have known when we walked in and found a pile of dirty rags on the sofa to turn around out the door! The room was filthy. The 90s style furniture was covered with dust and the carpet filled with stains. The TV was so old it had a digital converter on it...but the TV and DVD player was broken. I asked 3 times for a working TV to be brought to the room, only to be ignored. We woke up to a dead mouse in our dogs water dish. The microwave was broken as well as the living room blinds. It is quite apparent they just don't care. For $100 a night it was a complete ripoff, they can afford to update their amenities and get rid of the garage sale furniture that doesnt match.
During the day while my boyfriend hiked a 14er I was greeted by at least half a dozen mice that ran in and out of the fireplace vents. I couldn't enjoy a quiet afternoon as they decided to use the weed eater for an hour around my cabin.
I was shocked when housekeeping just unlocked my door without knocking. Thankfully my dog went crazy and they shut the door really fast.
The bathroom walls and ceiling were filled with smashed bugs...very nice touch!
I couldn't even enjoy a nice cup of coffee as the sugar packets and cream were so old they were hard and crumbled up.
Don't expect to get any help from the office, the 3 times I went it took 15-20 minutes for someone to come to the desk.
My advice, don't waste your money...unless you enjoy mice and 90s style furniture, then you will love it!

Location at confluence of Taylor, Gunnison and East rivers is great as someone else mentioned. I really hate to have to give this a 2 but..... Have stayed here before and although very rustic for the older cabins on the Taylor really liked it that time.
This time was another story altogether. I am giving a 2 because they did try to make things right. I hope if I ever stay here again I can give it a 3 or 4 because it has the ability to be that and the people are nice.
First night was OK in lower cabin vintage 1929 or so. I mean yes it was dingy but with a certain charm and I like that kind of thing so long as it is clean and it was as best as I could tell. When it comes to age after a certain point you just cannot make it look clean even if it is. One of the best things is the fire ring outside so you can have a fire at night under the stars with the river signing nearby.
Second night was not OK when we changed to a new cabin (first cabin was booked for that 2nd night) on the East River. Room was not cleaned at 6 pm when we moved over there. The answer was that it had been cleaned but someone must have the key and have taken a shower, left all the used towels and shampoo bottles on the floor etc. At least the beds looked like no one had used them. Now if that was really the case there is a serious security issue. But when you think this out it makes no sense because if I did something like that I would want to be able to come back and do it again because it would mean I was "camping out" and needed a place to shower. Why else would that have happened???? There are a lot of people who work in the area that cannot afford a place to live or cannot find one due to limited housing - so they camp out and work nearby in Crested Butte. But I really think the room was just not cleaned at check out. Also broken blinds and chairs on deck missing and so forth....
That cabin being newer and bigger was $150 a night. They did take 1/2 off after I requested that.
Food in restaurant was OK somewhere around a 3. Although the BF's breakfast biscuits and gravy was not good. They took that off at my request to. Burger was good but kitchen closes at 9 even through the bar is open much later. Bar is fun and good pool tables.

Great idea, bad execution. The ambiance is nice, but the service is poor. One guy waiting tables and another in the kitchen. It is in a tourist area so I try to factor that in, but I'd recommend driving into Gunnison. Much better choices there.

I read the mediocre review here and had gotten a mediocre recommendation from a local about the Almont Resort, so I was a bit skeptical coming here. The ambiance is like an old lodge, which is fun
My kids loved looking at the mountain lion skin and old pictures. The food was fantastic. Not fancy, mind you... burgers and ribs... all of us loved the food. The St Louis style ribs (sat nite all you can eat for $17) were absolutely fantastic. Very meaty and perfectly done.
My only complaint were the rowdies at the bar next door. Apparently they don't cut people off here when they've had enough alcohol. Some of the behavior in the bathroom was embarrassing.
