We booked a special two night rate here. Then we got a late season ice storm in May which CLOSED the highway that gets us here. The hotel would not accommodate our special which was paid for in advance. Pretty crappy...

We came to Estes Park Resort for a weekend getaway, as it's pretty close to Denver. The resort itself is nice, we stayed in a lakeview room and the views are great. Pretty sure I would not like it as much if it were facing the parking lot. Its nice to be able to walk right outside first thing in the morning and go for a nice walk/job around Lake Estes, and it's really close to Rocky Mountain National Park entrances. They have a nice restaurant on site and the staff is pretty nice. The only things that I did not like is some of the channels didn't have sound on the TV and they didn't have PPV, however, most people don't come here for the tv viewing, so I suppose it doesn't really matter. Overall, a nice experience.

The property itself is in a great spot right on the lake.  However, our stay wasn't that great. We were given a room on the first floor, which is really the basement, parking lot side. Our view from the window was cement and dirt, for real. The room is renovated nicely except for the sink being outside the bathroom. I. Hate. That. The linens were all clean and the bed was fairly comfortable. But my goodness I did not sleep due to hearing every single noise in that place. Clanks, bangs, hisses, fridge rattling with no way to unplug it, heavy-footed people above us stomping around, birds cooing in the rafters outside of our room - ugh. I'm still exhausted from that night. We visited in the offseason and really didn't get to experience any of the resort amenities/activities. However, the restaurant during brunch time was very nice with a live pianist and actually really good food - all prepared simply but wonderfully.

Stayed here for a two night weekend with the "romance" package, which totaled almost $1000.  Didn't mind the price as it was a special occasion (girlfriends 30th birthday) and I wanted a nice weekend away.

Room: Very average, interior was generic business hotel style, odd layout with sink right next to the bed, nothing remarkable at all.  View of the lake was okay but as we were on the ground floor, which is partly subterranean, the view was obscured by a holding wall and the room was subsequently gloomy.

Service: Very poor.  There were no robes in the room as indicated, when I called front desk to enquire if we could get some before heading to the spa I was told they were out.  Room service was horrendous: I called to get breakfast in bed for the birthday girl and after listening to the girl who answered yell at her colleagues without covering the phone I was told, very rudely and without an apology, that there was no one available for room service and I'd have to come to the restaurant.  After that we didn't even want to try the restaurant at all during our stay.

Romance Package: The one highlight was the spa couples massage, excellent, one of the best we have had, but not enough to make up for the discrepancies elsewhere.  The "Champagne" in the room was $2 chuck sparkling wine.  Roses and strawberries were nice though.

After our experience, considering the final bill, I wrote to the manager to complain and didn't even get an acknowledgement which again is entirely unacceptable, I guess not surprising after seeing how they run the hotel.

I will never return, I'd not recommend anyone else try either.

Upon arriving at our room we realized they'd put us on the first floor on the side away from the lake.  It featured a lovely view of dirt (seriously, a concrete wall and dirt) and they'd put a couple in a room with two double beds.  What?

After we went back to the front desk to (nicely) inquire about our room, they begrudgingly moved us to a third floor room still on the side away from the lake, that thankfully had a King bed.  They didn't seem happy with us though.

The place is newly remodeled, and we found it odd that they put the sink area in the room.  The walls were also paper thin, we could hear people in the hallway all night.

The lobby and main area is very small, though they did have live music in the bar area one night.

For a place with Resort in the title we are not impressed with the Shores restaurant . The inside screams 4-5 stars with marble tables and rustic log theme and immaculate views. But the service and food screamed 1-2 stars which was very disappointing. I will not be back unless some else pays.

Stayed here for a night in June 2013.   Some pros, a few cons.  OK overall  but in future I'd stay elsewhere for a more affordable room & just come here to get a drink/dinner & watch the sunset.

    - no A/C in our room.  For $250/night + tax, I didn't think to ask up front (although yes cheaper places in the mountains often don't have A/C, once you get north of $200 I tend to assume the place is fully modernized).  It was $25/night to upgrade to an A/C room so we passed.  Downside was that being on the ground floor meant that we didn't feel comfortable leaving the windows open when we weren't there or during the night when we were asleep, so the room was very warm during the day (78-80 degrees in day with windows closed), and warm & stuffy at night (didn't get below ~75-77 overnight, after we closed the window to sleep).

    - lots of weddings / big noisy groups.  This is one of the destination resorts for weddings in Estes Park.  This is either uplifting or annoying depending on your perspective and the energy level/politeness level of the guests.

    - poor/few TV choices.  Yeah you didn't come to the mountains to watch TV....but be warned it's only local channels.

    - immediate surroundings outside the hotel are meh.  There's a lower end park next door with swings, a community space (somebody was getting married there when we drove by),  some  empty lot type spaces, etc.  Was OK by us but it's not a big estate type hotel with a lot of garden space around it (a la the Stanley).

    - located right on the lake, nice view over the water to the mountains
    - restaurant was pretty good with both inside & outside full-window views
    - friendly & nice employees
    - nicely furnished, well maintained, large rooms.  Yes they have the sink/countertop in the main room (the bathroom contains only the tub/shower & toilet).  Wasn't an issue for us.
    - comfortable beds (YMMV)
    - pleasant live music (it was classic country the night we were there, lively but not too loud)
    - on "hotel row" that's practically walking distance from a string of other hotels along the lake
    - lots of parking, easy to find

Bottom line: if you're looking for higher end hotel digs in Estes Park, or group wedding destination, this is a great choice.  Otherwise there are other places to stay that are better value & you can come here to sit on the deck & have drinks/dinner.

After having a terrible night at Rocky Mountain Inn, this place was a welcome relief.  The views are amazing, the staff is courteous and helpful, and the location is great.  We will definitely book here again next time!

We stayed here two nights and had dinner here one night. The rooms were very nice--great view of the mountains and the lake. On a cold and windy night we stayed in and went to the restaurant. It was very good. I had the shrimp  and Judy had the salmon---both were worth the price.

TIP---on Wednesday evenings they have happy hour and free appetizers. They were good.

For the view, 5 stars. Amazing lakeside view.  It also helped that because of the fire, they had to change dates and gave us a king suite with balcony view of the lake (amazing sunset view). Though the location is a bit far from central stores, we weren't there for stores... we drove to the park anyway to do trails or see other sites.

For the noise, 1 star.  If you're too close to the reception area, you'll have to deal with noisy guests and the elevator traffic.  We were on the end where the staircase was and the door constantly slamming shut or voices projecting up the stairwell was a big problem until I found my earplugs.  Walls are thin.

For the comfort, 3 stars.  We couldn't get the room to a good temp so we had to turn the heat on and window open.  The pillows were all FLAT.  For a renovated hotel, they need to get fluffier pillows.  On that note, too, the hotel is newly renovated so it's very clean and modern.  Huge plus.

I don't know why they had bad reviews because for the price we paid on Hotel.com , we most definitely will be coming back if we ever come back to Estes Park.  It's by far the best choice for that location.  Hopefully they'll have better pillows, and we'll request a quieter room.

We just went here for a wedding and loved the hotel. Very nice, our room had a lake view, a fireplace and a separate living room. The guest services were awesome and amenities great as well. Perfect for a romantic getaway! Can't wait to go back!

Recently held a wedding reception at this hotel. Food was great but the service was as bad as it gets. The banquet staff was non-existent, the bartender disappeared for long periods of time and I am not comfortable with the accounting of what was actually poured that night and what I was charged. I tried to contact the general manger the next day but did not receive a call until  days later after my wife sent a email. After discussing my issues with the GM I was told 2 people had called in that evening and the wedding coordinator had been let go. I was told by the GM she would look into my concerns (never happened just blew me off). I truly feel I was ripped off for the price that this event costs. If a Hotel is going to call itself a Resort get a clue about the importance of customer satisfaction.

    Let's quickly debunk the two silly bad reviews;

Noreen T. 1 Star cause you didn't get to set your own price?  Did you even stay here?

Willie B.  (elite?) lol.  I have been here for a few days and there's no such thing as a Shores restaurant.  Even if there were you have not reviewed the resort at all, mr elite.....  Sigh.

So, here is a Real review.

Wife and I have been here since Thursday and have loved everything about it.  The view is magnificent, it's right on Lake Estes, like 25 feet from our back yard, the walking trail in beautiful, friendly service, easy parking, comfortable beds with 4 comfy soft pillows, two body logs, widescreen tv, big clean restrooms, granite table tops, microwave, coffee maker, mini fridge, safe, fluffy towels, nice exercise machines, private sauna, small indoor pool and hot tub.  We have found the pool and tub right down the hall to be open and private to us.

There is a restaurant and bar called Waterfront Grille that has a great selection of local beer brewed right here in Estes Park.  My only complaint it that it closes too early at 10 when we should be able to enjoy a nightcap as late as 12 when returning from downtown, which is only 1 mile away and within eyesight.  And good wi-if which I am using right now.

In this case the Yelp average rating is wrong due to just two people that have not even reviewed the Resort.  It is 5 stars and we will stay here again next time in Estes Park..

The hotel room and view were very nice. The only complaints are the towels were very rough and the jacuzzi is basically a children's pool. We tried to go down to it three different times in two days and every time there were children swimming in it. They should definitely charge less.

While a great hotel and great location --- I'm not sure I would label it a resort. They feature a full bar/restaurant, good meetings rooms and their hotel rooms are rustic. The front desk was always helpful and attentive.

The workout facility is limited --- but their is a great gym down the street (Rocky Mountain Health Club). If you enjoy walking --- they have a path that you can take around the lake which is right outside your window.

Service is terrible. They took my card and double charged me for my room and then said they couldn't do anything about it until after we left.

When the desk personnel asked me a question when trying to respond they quickly cut me off until I offered to take him outside to talk about it.

    Will never be back.

We had an event at the hotel and the staff was very attentive to detail.  The rooms were nice.  The location is great too.  The bar staff were great.  Erin, Jamie, and Nick who planned and worked on our event did a great job.  We had dinner at the restaurant as part of our event and the food and service were excellent.  The only comment I have is we had our meeting in the mezzanine level above the bar and restaurant and their was a wedding party that gathered in the afternoon in the bar and the noise was a bit much.  It's a trade off because the views from there are very nice.  We will book a part of the convention room next time I think but will definitely consider having our event here again next year.

The resort is in a lovely location, and the lakeview rooms do have a lovely view. I stayed in room 114 on the first floor which looked like any other hotel room, aside from the small balcony. The room was clean and the bed and pillows were comfortable. However, I was awakened at 7am from sounds above my room. After trying to fall back asleep and continually being disturbed I called the front desk. They promptly offered to call the people above, which I consented to. This did not seem to help, so when I called again they offered to move my husband and me for the two remaining nights of our stay. They said they had a suite on the second floor available, but we would have to pay $15 per night extra. I said I was not willing to pay anything additional given the inconvenience, and Sophia called back a few minutes later to say they would waive the upgrade charge. I found the front desk staff to be very helpful throughout this process.

The new room, 218, was beautiful - two balconies, a dining room table, a living room with two couches and a chair and a fireplace. That night we slept soundly, but the final morning of our trip we were once again awakened  to noises. It turns out it was not just heavy walkers above us in the first room, but rather the insulation in the ceiling/floors is not good so you can hear every step taken above. I complained at check out and got an apology, but no offer for a discount, which I would have appreciated.

Other than the noise issue, the resort is lovely. The suana, whirlpool, pool area were not as "resort-like" as I hoped - they looked like any pool area you'd find at a Holiday Inn, but the rest of the resort was well maintained, homey and the grounds are very nice. I wouldn't stay here again because of the noise, but if you're a heavy sleeper and that sort of thing doesn't bother you, everything else was fine.
