Newer than the hotels closer to I-4, this hotel is clean with friendly staff.

This Holiday Inn Express offered $80 rooms over the Christmas holiday with continental breakfast.  As a bonus, we got an upgrade to a king suite from a two (2) queen room for the same rate.

Note -- I believe this hotel and the Hampton Inn adjacent to it are run by the same people.  The rates at the Hampton Inn next door were $40 more than the older Hampton Inn near the interstate -- $109 for the same room, albeit in a brand new hotel.  Nowhere near the deal that I got at the Holiday Inn Express.

The hotel is clean, with well-kept public areas and guest rooms.  The decor is very art deco Floridian.  It's almost a tropical jungle theme to the whole place.  In keeping with the theme, they didn't run the air conditioning while we were there on the floors -- with the warm temps in December, stepping off an elevator meant walking into 80F+ air before getting to your room.  Thankfully, you have full control over HVAC in the room, so it was only a minor inconvenience.

Other things we noted during our 3 night stay...

Bad Internet -- it's free but useless.  Absolutely no download speeds whatsoever on WiFi.

Good continental breakfast -- it was better than a similar offering at a Holiday Inn Express in North Carolina.  Bigger selection and a much more comfortable sitting area.

Reasonably safe parking -- the lights on one side of the lot didn't come on the first night, and the hotel IS sorta located on the edge of rather uninviting Apopka downtown.

Friendly staff -- the staff is Indian (Pakastani?), and they are very friendly.  They answered questions and allowed me to pay for a portion of  my parents' room during the stay without any hassle.

No smoking -- they will charge you $250 in a heartbeat (they tell you as much when you check in) if you smoke inside your room.  I love it.  No risk of getting a non-smoking smoking room here.

Give Holiday Inn Express Apopka a try.  As long as the rates are good, it's a bargain for what you get.

This is a great Holiday Inn Express.  It is newer, clean and quiet.  The only reason why doesn't get five stars is simply because it is not considered an upscale hotel. It's as good as a Holiday Inn express can be.  We got a mini suite which came complete with a separate sitting area microwave and mini fridge.  The beds are comfortable and the pillows are separated by firm to soft via the markings on the pillowcase.

Check in with quick and simple and nothing out of the ordinary. B I was quite impressed with the number of plug-ins and rechargeable areas for the electronics.  There is free HBO and free Wi-Fi to enjoy.

The coffee maker is single serve with the Styrofoam cups. If you enjoy drinking out of a ceramic mug like I do, that's not what you'll fine here.

Great place.  A new hotel, crisp and clean.  Eco-modern decor.  Our room had a mini-fridge and a microwave and  two queen beds with four pillows each (pillowcases were embroidered "firm" or "soft," to help choose softness level).  Hair dryer and nice selection of soaps etc. in bathroom.  Generous breakfast spread featured scrambled eggs, bacon, biscuits w/ gravy, all kinds of cereals and breads, teas and juices, hot cinnamon rolls, and. . . . a pancake machine.  I'd never seen a pancake machine before.  (In the breakfast room, the flat screen t.v. was located in a waterfall-fountain-thing.  Also a first for me.)  Neat.
