Where to begin?  Let's start with the positive. The continental breakfast is good, nice extra, clean, and the staff are extra friendly! This place is really affordable, great rates!   Now, for the bad. The rooms. The carpet in the rooms has been there 20 yrs plus cause I stayed here back then and remember it. The hotel is run down and old. For example, shower doesn't work, smells funny, paint chipping. Now for the worst part, the pool area is always dirty full of band aids, hair, paper etc., it needs power washing. The pool furniture comes off on your skin with little white and blue specs and the bottom of the pool paint is peeling away. The grills are disgusting and shuffleboard is worn off. The place needs to be demolished and just start over.

I will never recommend this hotel to anyone, not even my worst enemy. the hotel is old and run down, the carpets in the room are dirty and they smell bad. I canceled the reservation and went to another hotel that was so much better ...

Can't beat the price or the location.  We had a great room for 3 nights on the 7th floor.  Balcony over the ocean, kitchette with a refrigerator to keep the beer and wine cold, continental breakfast.  Bed was comfortable.  Free Wi-Fi.   I liked it a lot.  Elevators were slow and one wasn't working at times.  So we usually took the stairs going down.  It was a little cold so we didn;t use either of the pools.  Wish they would have had a hot tub by one of the pools though.

So far, so good.  I've been here for 2 days now and everything is good.  The pool and surrounding area is very clean.  Yes, the paint is not perfect and the buildings are no-telling how old, but overall it is a good place to stay for families.  No, it is not located in downtown Daytona, but honestly unless you enjoy being asked if you want to buy drugs and all types of people roaming around in the middle of the night, I would stay at El Caribe.  It is in a more laid back part of town.  I will be honest and say when I first walked into the office I thought I would not stay because maybe the way the person at the desk at the time had never been asked by a guest to view a room before paying or maybe he was new.   Once they opened the door to a room, I changed my mind.  Front desk people warmed up, housekeeping has not knocked on the door 1 time asking if we were leaving, anything you need like extra towels, trash bags, things like that, they don't make you feel like you asking for their first born.  Maintenance is great. They have Security.   Grounds are kept clean.  Please keep in mind, it's the "guests" that make the mess.  Plants, palm trees and grass are neat, and trimmed, not half dead.  The room was big, had everything I needed and more, a small kitchen, bathroom, cable tv, tub/shower combo.  Other amenities include two pools, one heated, one not, both saltwater.Guest laundry, on the beach, basketball, beach volleyball, and shuffleboard  Plus El Caribe does not charge for a parking pass or a "resort" fee even though it has all these amenities.  I only planned to stay one night and decided to stay 7 days.  :)  Keep up the good work employees of El Caribe, Daytona Beach South.

For the price it would be 5 stars...only thing wrong was a very slow elevator as mentioned by others. we stayed there this week got a great price through a 2nd party website. the hotel is an old building but very clean and up to date. the room overlooked the beautiful daytona beach,,it had a balcony. 2 beds in room, a kitchenette room, and bathroom. the pool was clean except the tiles above. the staff was friendly. free continental breakfast too. we will definately stay here again.

Although the hotel is old, the rooms are pretty nice and the staff is extremely friendly. I've done a lot of research until I booked this hotel. Our ocean view room had a full kitchen so we did a lot of cooking on our stay.

I'll give it 2.5 but we'll round it up to 3 stars.  I've been staying at the El Caribe now for different times ranging from 20 years ago up until now.  Not much, if anything has changed during this time.  The hotel has a few things going for it, which include its location right on the beach, the very large rooms with kitchens and large refrigerators, large balconies, free WI-FI, and the price.

As for the downside, the continental breakfast is about as continental as it gets, the rooms are rather dated, and the cleanliness, while they try, is definitely not in line with high end hotels.  Overall though, it is a decent place to stay, and the price is right.  Don't go here expecting something worthy of your awesome family vacation or a honeymoon stay, but do go here if you want a decent place to be at a good price.

Haven't even been here a full night but I already give this place 5 stars. Two pools (one heated) & a kiddie pool, bbq pits, courtyard, sundeck, ocean-view balconies, continental breakfast, guest laundry, ice machines and vending machines. Lots of parking. Perfect location. Close to lots of shops and other restaurants. I'm currently listening to the ocean waves as we speak! Love this place, will definitely be back (:

The room was clean, comfortable and obviously well cared for. Yes, it's an older place but it didn't seem dingy. Breakfast was pretty decent for being free. All the staff were nice and friendly. The grounds and amenities were great. Lovely place all around. My only complaint is that the walls were thin and our neighbors were pretty obnoxious. There were certainly a number of families and older couples who were staying long term that seemed perfectly content so I think we just got unlucky. I'd definitely stay again but I'd request to be kept away from the partiers if possible.

Great place to stay, especially if you need a full kitchen or suite.  Fantastic place for a meeting, wedding, reunion, or small conference. There are two pools, keeping it from being super crowded. They also have shuffleboard and public grills in their grassy knoll area, which is a great place to hang out if you aren't on the beach. Speaking of, there are two volleyball courts on the beach outside the hotel wall. The beach atmosphere is very laid back and quieter than other locations in the area. The Caribe is also great because there are on-site laundry facilities, several good restaurant, a grocery store,  and Congo River mini golf within short walking distance.
