My wife and I got the shaft, getting the smallest room on the floor.   There was hardly any floor room at all, it was difficult to get from the uncomfortable bed to the bathroom without tripping over the coffee table.   Parking was somewhat difficult to find in their parking structure on the weekends but was ok during the week.   The common areas were very attractive as was the pool but there is a very limited amount of shade available. We expected too much from this place I think I only found out later that this is the companies highest end hotel, they own a number of fleabag motels in the same area.

I stayed at the Plaza Resort & Spa for a conference last week, and while the accommodations were satisfactory, it's the customer service that I'm most pleased by. I rushed out to catch a rescheduled flight on Monday morning and realized as my plane pulled away from the gate that I left three dresses hanging in the closet of my hotel room.  I contacted the hotel, and they confirmed that housekeeping found my garments and had them set aside. They shipped them back to me the very next day in perfect condition and were very kind and understanding as I frantically called trying to straighten everything out. It's wonderful to know that a hotel values their customers so highly as to go out of their way to do this, and I really appreciated it.

Beautiful hotel in a great location.  Seemed strange that a 4 star hotel was self park only.  To boot the parking was only accesible by walking out the back door of the hotel.  But suring our stay there was a wedding in that hall meaning I had to walk out the front door and around the block to get to my car. The lounge made a great Bloody Mary, but the restuarant staff was inatentive during breakfast.  Can't complain I got a great rate online.  I would stay there again if the price is right.

Do not waste your time especially groupon buyers. I attempted to make my reservation with the groupon I bought since I have only 2 months to use it after purchasing it. Got the room, all the info etc then when it was time to book it, I was told I could not use my groupon for those nights and they were booked solid through all weekends until January, Gr8 that was when it expires. They did list blackout dates on the groupon when i bought it but when you call they have even more blackout dates for groupon users. I am getting my money back from groupon, what a shame.

The amenities and location are better than the rooms. The pool, spa, lounge, and conference rooms are superb while the room was only average. The staff is courteous. Parking is a little difficult. The resort fee is $15 per day.

I made a reservation by phone for my boss.  When I made the reservation I told them I would not be staying there, that it was for someone else.  They said it would be no problem and proceeded to get my card number, etc...

Then three hours later my boss calls and says the hotel needs an authorization form faxed and a copy of my credit card (front and back).  So I drive all the way back to work and take care of it.  I complained and threatened to the manager, but she was unconcerned.  It would have been fine if they had told me all of that originally.

The reason they get two stars is because it's probably the least gross spot in Daytona.

Found this place via Priceline.com for $85 per night (not incl tax and "resrt fee"). Right on the water, beautiful place, clean room. Loved it, would stay again.

My wife and I stopped at the Plaza Hotel just for a brief overnight stay on our Florida vacation and loved the hotel.  We were driving form Key West to Orlando with a overnight in Daytona Beach to tour the Daytona International Speedway.

Upon arrival our check in process was smooth and the looks of the hotel was very nice.  I was a bit taken back that not bell or valet services were available but I did not really care as I am a big boy and can park my own car and carry my own bags.  Entering our room we were surprised at how nice the rooms were as we had heard nightmares about hotels in Daytona Beach.

We were just about the only people in the hotel as we arrive during the slow season in Daytona Beach and to our disappointment the hotel bar and lounge was closed for the night. I guess because of having no guests the staff at the front desk was a little relaxed as we tried to contact them by phone for 25 minutes to find a local place that was chill and close to get a drink and snack.  After they answered the phone (they were watching baseball away from the front desk)  we were directed to a great place.

So, for the one night we were there at this beautiful hotel it was a great experience.  A fast check out aided us in getting going on our days adventures and the view from our hotel room was great as well.

Came here with a Groupon for a weekend.

Pros: kitchenette, microwave, large TV and on the beach - wifi is good too

Cons: Older decor, walls are either paper thin or the place was noisy. Neighbors either had a loud TV or stereo. After three calls to security, they offered to move us (11pm after a 3 hour drive here)
Beds are ok, but the sheets are paper thin and the thread count might as well be -200

Will revise throughout the weekend. 1st impression is not good.

Saturday - We were given 2 free breakfasts each morning of our stay. Read carefully though, it is a breakfast they choose. Not cool.

Trying to regulate the room temperature is a joke with their antiquated system.

Sunday: originally scheduled to stay through Monday but have decided to go home a day early. This is not worth another visit, especially given the off-season rack rate of $144/night

i decided to go ahead and book my room at this hotel since a conference i was attending was located here.  i wish it would've been better on several fronts:

1) my room's floor.  OMG, once i exited the elevator, the stench of the hallway hit my nostrils...HARD. how can i describe it..."wet, fishy smell"??  i held my breath until i reached my room and was relieved my spacious room did not share the same smell.  but every time i'd exit the room, i was hit with the nauseating odor. EUWWWW

2) the resort's selection of food options.  beside the one restaurant, Magnolia's, there's really no place to eat.  even the restaurant's menu didn't have much to choose from, especially for vegetarians.  i had the pasta with mushroom sauce and nuts.  it wasn't bad but i wish they had more choices available.

3) the cleaning service.  there seemed to be a gigantic cockroach (approx. 6 inches in length) smashed on the bathroom floor next to the toilet.  yeah, yeah, i know that Florida have bigger roaches than other places secondary to the temperate climate; but if a cockroach that big was smashed before i got there, that means the cleaning staff had seen it, killed it, but failed to clean up the remnants of the rotting insect. GROSS!!!

other than these main concerns, there are a few pros to coming here: i actually enjoyed the catered food provided during the conference lunches/breaks and the seasonal decor in the lobby and conference area; my room was quite roomy; the bed was comfy along with the linen being soft; and the front desk staff was friendly and accommodating.  but if it came to sanitation and noxious odors, i'd check into a different hotel.  such a shame:  the hotel has the potential to be a great place to stay and currently a wonderful area to host a conference.  i just wish i had more positive things to offer about this venue. *sad face*

I picked this hotel for my sisters bachelorette party and I couldn't have been happier. The room was clean and comfortable and we were given a corner oceanfront room which gave us two balconies.

The location was also a plus. We were steps from the beach in the area that no cars can drive so it was nice. We were also walking distance from the shopping "mall" which has alot of good restaurant choices, and many clubs and extras for a bunch of girls looking to have fun!

The only problem we had with our stay was there were no sheets for the pull out sofa bed and once we called the front desk it took almost 30 minutes for them to bring us sheets. I will grant them slack for it since it was almost 4 in the morning when we called, but it was annoying to wait when we all just wanted to go to sleep.

But regardless I will not hesitate to stay at The Plaza again.

Go for the Hilton down the street - seems like the only half-way decent option in this part of Daytona (there's not much to choose from).

The Plaza's rooms are dated and in slight disrepair (notch above a low-end motel), pool area is small, only one small "cafe", and not much within a short walking distance.  It's right on the beach, but so are all the other hotels in this area.

On check-in, the valet staff tried to turn us away since they were "too busy".  Only after complaining and saying we were trying to check in did they take the car.  They didn't have sufficient parking to accommodate everyone at the hotel and cars were stacked all the way from the entrance to the street - many guests can't unload by the front door and have to drag their luggage uphill to the entrance.  It's just as hard to get your car back (had to plan on at least 20 minutes).

Very old building, not worth the price if almost $200 per night. The hotel badly needs updating, gym equipment is antiquated. Doors are almost falling apart, sliding door doesn't lock. Amenities are lacking.

Hotel was not the nicest, but it was alright. Could be a lot nicer if some work was put into it. Stayed here for Spring Break and had a clean room with a nice view. The location is pretty good. The spa was very nice. The people working in the lobby and the woman who cleaned my room were very friendly. The daily "resort fee" was silly in my opinion. There was a broken elevator that made my friends and I nervous to use the elevators at all, which was not good. Overall, not the best but not the worst.

For what we paid I expected more. There were cockroaches in our room and stains on the carpet. The other reviews are correct in saying that the walls are paper thin. We were right by the elevators and could here them opening and closing all night and kids running up and down the hallway. Also the maids came in wicked early in the morning. Only pro is that it's right on the beach. Overall there are better places to stay in Daytona.

One star hotel, not a resort by any stretch of the imagination. Why? Here it goes...

I am writing this review over a month after my stay, because a month after my stay I was charged, for the third time, for my stay at the hotel (I will continue to use hotel throughout my review, because the experience I received here was comparable to a crappy hotel).

I was there with a a large group and there was also another large group staying in the hotel at the same time. Immediately at check-in I knew that things were not going to go well, having been quoted one price for the room and having a surprise 'service charge' upon check in: great.

I paid cash for my room, cash cash cash, and they took my card for incidentals. Common practice with hotels, no harm there...except they put a hold on my card for the FULL price of the room. Phase two of me being irritated. I called down to the front desk, told them I paid cash, they said alright and reimbursed my card (that took several days, of course). Cool, back to things being OK.

Then I took a look at the peoples other rooms in my group: huge, full kitchen, two beds, couches, etc, and for LESS than what I was paying: back to being pissed.

I called the front desk and asked them why I got shafted on a room, they gave me a bunch of excuses (after being put on hold) and told me to go fly a kite, pretty much.

Fast forward to after my diner reception and we are all on the beach, awesome time! Until SOMEONE PULLED A PISTOL ONE OF MY BROTHERS..! I swear, I can't make this up. Our group left the beach, unharmed thank God, and I told the people at the front desk after called the police. They laughed, LAUGHED at me and said: "Yeah, we have got a few calls about it..".

***I will pause so you can laugh, breath, think about all that has happen***

Fast forward a month...

I go to the ATM after work to make a withdraw before I head down town and the balance was significantly less than what I expected. Odd.. Called my bank the next morning: THE HOTEL CHARGED ME FOR MY STAY, AGAIN!

Called and asked for a manager, front desk person sent me to his voice mail. Left him a message, but he didn't bother to call me back(why would he, he is only in the hospitality industry after all...).

Got a call two days later from the accounting department who didn't wouldn't listen to a word I said...

No worries. I Yelp, use Google reviews, and I am very familiar with the Better Business Bureau.

My mom and I stayed here from July 24-26th.  Staff was polite and I thought our first room was great except that there was no shower liner! (no balcony) but our second room was not so great.  The towel bar was falling out of the wall, the bed linens left a lot to be desired and the carpet was gross.
*Location! Location! Location!  The beach and sand is gorgeous here and there's an IHOP & a Walgreens within walking distance.  We had great service at the IHOP all 3 times we ate there.
*Staff was pleasant and even upgraded us to a balcony room the next day free of charge because I asked nicely.
*I thought the beds were comfy.  Of course, it could be that I was too exhausted from the beach to notice that they weren't... but I stand by that they were comfy.  Plenty of pillows.
*Plenty of towels.
*Checked in early, went really well, no one gave us any grief.

*Pool was gross.  Foggy gross.  No way I was getting in that!
*$15 resort fee PER DAY.  This is NOT a resort.  Claim the fee is to cover valet and use of the facilities.  (What facilites?!?)
*Damage on the outside back of building looks dangerous.  Definitely need to repair!
*Valet was ill prepared for anyones departure.  After waiting 15 minutes behind 3 families I grabbed my keys and got the car myself.
*Not family friendly.  I would NOT take my kids here.  Just don't do it.  There's a couple other places down the way towards boardwalk that would be better suited for kids.
*Power outages.
*Elevators are SCARY in their (dis)functionality.
*"Free" Internet very seldom worked.

I got a pretty decent deal on Priceline, however, I would NEVER pay full price to stay here and if I had known about these "$15 resort fees" per day prior to booking, I wouldn't have booked to stay here either.

We had a heckuva time locking down our rate.  It took several phone calls to reservations before giving up and speaking to the front desk (Lucy was quite helpful.)  This really put kind of a stink on things even prior to our arrival.

That being said, the hotel is pretty dated with a strange lobby layout. The location is actually pretty good but with a lousy parking situation.  We did not use the valet and from what I saw am glad for it.  The elevator situation was horrible, there was a South Korean group there creating waits of sometimes 4 elevator before there being room to get on.  Ugh!

The rooms were spacious and pretty darn comfortable, especially the beds, the hotels one saving grace for sure.  The bathrooms were updated and I found the room pretty clean.

The employees were professional and polite but you could tell that managements attention to cost controls had was affecting the employees either directly or more probably indirectly.

The hotel was not bad for the rate we paid but if we had paid the full rate I would have NOT been happy at all.

Not so great---There are nicer places to stay near by for the same money. This hotel is old and it's kept up ok but you can definitely see the signs of age like holes in the exterior dings and dents here and there and the elevators scare the crap out of me because they're old and rickety. The thermostat quit working the day we got here and the maintenance man basically "fixed" it so that we have to work one thing for heat and one for air and it's a pain because they are on opposite sides of the room so it's back and forth and I was like "how did he say to do this again?" (In florida you will often require both in the same day) then when we ran out of coffee for the tiny pot I called down to ask for some and never got it...
you can hear everything in this hotel from the people in the halls to the people outside seven stories down at the bar or on the beach; WITH the door shut. The staff are all very nice but over all for the money, I would NOT recommend this place to anyone. The only pros I've found are, free wi fi and parking on site though it's a garage which I think they charge for if you aren't on a group rate. If you have kids, don't stay here, I'd be terrified of the balcony and with the paper thin walls, there is way too much noise (construction during the day, party goers at night etc)
Another thing, for older people there is not a grab bar in the bathroom and there is a huge step over onto the balcony that could cause you to trip Like I did TWICE-  and beware that our sliding glass door is very hard to open and close. I couldn't do it without both hands and tugging super hard.

The beds are super uncomfortable and the linens suck. The free wi if is spotty..soooo wish we were somewhere else..I wanted to like this place because we come every year for a convention and I would have liked to stay at the same place each time but I won't be booking this again. this is only a 2 star because it's close to everything and if you can overlook cosmetics, it has a great ocean view.

I give it two starts only because of the great location and pool area ( directly on the beach). This hotel is very outdated and sort of rundown. Valet service was horrible and so was the parking situation. The rooms were ok but the bathroom was like  showering in a closet. Also, be aware that they charge you a $17/day resort fee when you check in, on top of your daily room rate. I hated the fact that for a few extra dollars I could have stayed at the swanky Wyndham Resort right next door.

Oh and there is no great view of the beach! Your view is the parking lot!

The pool area is pretty nice though. You can literally walk on to the beach from it. They have a tiki bar with a dj spinning in the afternoons. That was pretty cool and relaxing.

If your going to be barely in your room and on the beach the entire time, this place will be perfect for you. The location is awesome. BUT if you're like me, and like to have nice rooms with awesome amenities, this may not be for you. Keep looking!

The hotel and amenities are beautiful, but they were overrun with children for our entire stay. We didn't go near the pool because of all of the kids everywhere. Also, we were put in a room overlooking the lobby (VERY noisy). When we requested to move, we were placed next to an elevator... not a big improvement. The valet staff was very friendly, but the service at the bar/restaurant was not great. For what we paid, I expected a much better stay.

Pretty nice rooms, awesome pool, nice location, nice pool bar. Nice parking which is free self park. Nice staff. Not a bad price if you get it on sale. Only complaint I have is the hotel restaurant is absolutely horrible and it's hard to find a working soda machine with cold sodas. Also the elevators can be slow sometimes but they have stairs that are nice.

This hotel was a disappointment. The lobby area, valet and location were good, however the rest... not so good. It is a "historic" hotel and it smells like one the smell in the rooms and hallway is overpowering! I am not sure if it was the carpet or the walls but the smell was just awful. The beds are average to poor. The location is amazing, the beach is beautiful and just steps away. There was a nice pool and basketball area. This hotel needs renovations!

I have stayed at The Plaza many times being a Florida resident it was always a nice get away and i never had any complaints. In August I made reservations for a stay in October for my birthday weekend. I paid the one nights stay for the deposit - a hefty $230.00. I was pleasantly surprised by my sister of a quick cruise so I emailed and called to cancel my reservation over a month in advanced. I received a refund of my deposit in my bank for $194. I was a little puzzled about why i did not receive the full amount back. I went onto their website and looked for any fine print i could find about cancellations - i did not see anything. I did go back to my email and AFTER they received my deposit and sent me the confirmation is where i saw "outside of 72 hours there will be a $30 cancellation fee" Outside? Most respectable places say within 72 hours there will be a fee. Also to my calculations they kept more than the $30 because $230 - $194 = $36.

I can honestly say that if you feel the need to charge people for canceling i would expect it to be within a reasonable window of time - like 2-4 days prior to the stay. But to actually TAKE money from someone who cancels over a month away is ridiculous and unethical. I tried to call and speak with the manager but i never received a call back.

As i stated before - I was a frequent guest at the plaza but i will never stay there again.

What a COMPLETE DISAPPOINTMENT in customer care!!

We reserved a room for one night for Father's day weekend 3 months ago. When we tried to check in, they had made us aware that they had overbooked their hotel and that our room was given to someone else.  I even called the day before to confirm our reservation.  They did manage to arrange a night for us in a LOWER QUALITY hotel next door and offered us two bar drink vouchers.

Very unprofessional of them not to have the courtesy to call and inform us of the cancellation.

I'm not sure of what their hotel was like inside, but will not be returning and will not be referring friends and family to this hotel.

We got this hotel for $71.00 plus tax and a $20 dollar service fee which was for wifi / pool / gym access. I don't think I would ever pay full price to stay at this hotel, but my boyfriend and I loved it!

I'm not one to drop 200 dollars on a hotel considering the time spent in the building involves sleeping or pre-gaming. The staff were super friendly, takes us less than 40 seconds to get from parking to our room, the view is not phenomenal... we can see the beach, but the ac units were right in the way.... for 71 dollars we weren't even expecting a balcony so win!

The beach is literally right out back. The deck area Is awesome! Beautiful pool, pool side bar, corn hole, life size chess/checkers out back, and out the gate, bam! Right on the beach. The great part is that the location on the beach takes you right beside where the car section ends so to the left is pretty packed with jeep and truck beachers... and the boardwalk is about 5 minutes across the sand to the right, so it's pretty full down towards that way. We were here on Tuesday/ Wednesday afternoon and aside from a few other guests (most people who were here it seems stayed by the pool) we pretty much only had to share the beach with 10 other people

We loved this hotel and considering that we got a room with two double beds for that price? We definitely plan on coming back here with friends again and again! As far as the reviews that mention "dated," decor... The place looks much better than any holiday inn/ best western that you stay at. If you're looking for a place with chandeliers hanging from the ceiling for your stay at Daytona beach... what's the matter with you? Lol

Where to start? ok best thing is don"t stay here!!! first off what ever price they quote add 22.50 per day for resort fee. Resort fee is for swimming pool, valet parking, and fitness room. Of course most hotels offer that as  bonus for staying with them.
Anyway the reason why this place sucks so bad, first very thin walls and doors, i have never stayed in a more noisy place, you can hear everything from the hall ways, anytime a door is shut the room rattles, and door to the hall let in a lot of light around it we hung towels up to block it out,   so don't expect a good nights sleep.
Next our tv would not work i called and had someone come up to fix it, he said he could  not fix it but he was able to switch it from digital to analog, which cut down on the amount of channels.
then the one day we decide to use the swimming pool that we are paying $22.50 a day for ,someone decides to take a shit in the pool, now it is closed for the whole day, but of course the hotel will not give us back our resort fee,or offer a free drink, or meal or anything.
basically this place blows,DON'T STAY HERE!!!!

Booked a long weekend getaway in early December, knowing that the weather would be variable.  Only 11 people in the hotel, but for some reason we were all given rooms with bad views on the 3rd floor, with no possibility for an upgrade.  The restaurant dining area was closed, except for the bar.  But there was no signage to indicate that the bar was serving the full menu food, so we didn't know it until halfway through the stay.  No room service, although some of the staff was just sitting around, bored and with nothing to do.  We were told at the front desk that for $10 we could use the hot tub in the spa, but upon inquiring in the spa we were declined that privilege.  Rudely.  By Amy.  Although the staff was friendly, obviously management policy was not accommodating to off season guests.

*****We'd like to give 5 stars to Robin,Joe Joe, their managers and the valets for outstanding service.  Their helpful suggestions and knowledge of the area helped us find things to do, and their friendly professionalism made our stay pleasant. Also Robin and Joe Joe make some of the best drinks I've ever had! ******

My first time staying at this hotel and I was a little worried because of some of the reviews however, this was a beautiful hotel with a lot of history.  The room was very clean and beds comfortable.  Each and every staff member we met was friendly and courteous.  The bartenders were great and the food was very good also.  We could walk to bars and restaurants and this hotel is located directly on the beach so we could sit by the pool and watch people walk by.  We've already decided to stay here again next year!
We would like to thank Valerie, Craig and Mark!

On top of that I left the shirt in the room they had me speak to housekeeping they told me they call me back within an hour no phone calls!

This place would have received 1 star if weren't for the sift action and cordial attitude displayed by the staff at the time of necessity. Our allotted room looked really nice and prim until my wife spotted a dead cockroach. Given that, I had already set up bedding for our infant, I disposed the dead insect.

In sometime, we went on a roach hunt and found 4 other dead cockroaches. This lead me to call the guest services. In 5-10 minutes time, they had us move the new room. They inspected the new room along with us which was thoughtful. Apart from this gross incident, the room and the restrooms were clean. The
room services did a good job in replacing used towels.

The parking is an issue here especially if you checking in here at night. The beach is a stone throw away from the hotel.

Bottom line: Good hotels with amicable staff. But, if you are lucky as I was, you might dead roaches
