    Despite many, many attempts to contact management and promises via email....they made NO attempt to try to resolve their down falls. Horrible! They downgraded our reservation without asking. The waitresses at the restaraunt never came to our table. The floors in the room were really dirty. The white sheet had black stains. The rooms were dingy and outdated. The rooms were nothing like the pictures. We talked to managment, but he didn't care. It reminded me of hotels in Mexico. The area is awesome, just stay at a different hotel in that area. This one was not good! I I would Never send friends or family there!

    My folks just stayed here a week ago, so I am baseing this review on what they told me!  First and foremost my folks were flying red eye from SFO to FLL for a funeral, and when I booked the hotel I asked the booking agent if the could get checked in early, not only were they allowed to check in but they got a room too!  Considering they arrived in Florida at 7:03 am, on a Friday of Thanksgiving weekend, I was happy for them.  My folks said the staff was kind and nice upon checking it!  So on those two things alone I would book this hotel again.  They had a Marina view room and next time they would like to opt for the newer section of the hotel.  My folks who aren't beachy people made it apoint to go for a walk on the beach the whole time there were their, they enjoyed the pool, which is only accessable by key card so you don't have all tourist glamming onto the beach.  They enjoy breakfast at the places to eat at the hotel.  My folks have stayed at the Pillars and the another hotel on the beach and they loved this place!! So while I am a OCDer when it comes to hotel and reading reviews I am happy I booked them here.  It was close to where my uncle lives and they had a good time considering they were attending a funeral!

    This is nothing more than a three star hotel - although, it is in a great location.

    I got this place for $90 a night on priceline.com - which was a hell of a deal considering the prices that were publicly available.  Staff was extremely friend, the room was clean, has easy beach access, and a pool.

    They screw you on the parking - $18 a day, but considering the deal that I got on the room, it all worked out.

    You cant beat the location - right on the beach and within walking distance of Las Olas bars.  It is pretty touristy in that general area - consider taking a taxi down Las Olas to scene that can be found right in by the city - lots of bars and shops.

    We had a cute room overlooking the ocean. Staff was friendly and accomodating, housekeeping did a great job cleaning our room every day. Awesome location, you can go wrong being right across the street from the beach, with a walkway over the street to the beach. Took advantage of that every day. 4 stars only because you have to pay an additional 19 a day for parking and drinks were a bit pricey. Otherwise we had a great stay here.

    Went for a low-key bachelorette with 10 girls in 3 rooms.  We loved the hotel for what we were there for.  It's not a luxury hotel or anything, but it is clean and nice enough, and it's a perfect location.

    We camped out at the pool with good live music, and had really good access to the beach too - and we really appreciated that we could use their towels for the beach too.

    The people could be a little quicker and a little friendlier, but all in all it was a good experience and I'd definitely return.  Comfy beds.

    Also, run across the street to "All About Food" deli to avoid a $17 B-fast...  grocery store was a $10 cab ride.

    I did not have that great of an experience here.  The rooms pretty much suck.  I guess in a down economy you have to deal with what you have and for the price maybe it was fine, but I was not very happy with the place.  It is so old and I guess the owners are just slacking.

    For the price, this hotel is fabulous! If you want tons of things to do right near the hotel, continue your hotel search. If you want complimentary bath robes and bright white grout, continue your search. Try the Westin. This place has no other hotels within 1/2 a mile, north and south. Therefore, bars and restaurants are limited, BUT, the beach is worth it. Compared to the rest of the beachfront hotels, Bahia's beach isn't crowded whatsoever, at any time of the day. With a direct walkway over Seabreeze Blvd, the beach is a breeze to get to. We were upgraded to an 8th floor oceanfront room, so our view was fantastic. The hotel is quiet--no crazy shenanigans, so spring breakers should check out a hotel up north on the strip, or just head to Miami. The saltwater pool was refreshing, clean, and never so crowded that we couldn't snag a couple chairs. The bar there is decent. In our room, the first light switch by the door didn't work, and turn down was really late one day (around 7pm). Other than that, the room was clean, beds comfy, and AC nice and cool. Also, with the marina next door, you can hop on the water taxi after having a nice breakfast at Bahia Cabana. :) I would definitely stay here again!

    I attended a cocktail hour and seated dinner here. I was the +1 of L & L to the Black Tie & Blue Jeans affair. Interesting. A ballroom full of people dressed in formal tops and jeans was as interesting as the boots & black tie inaugural ball I breezed thru during the election before last.

    I have no complaints about anything. Everything was completely average. The cash bar. The cheese cubes. The teriyaki salmon dinner. The key lime pie dessert. It was all as expected. Servers: as expected.

    It was a-ok.

    In town to attend a wedding here. This place needs to be updated. Room keys did not work at all during our weekend stay. Security escorted us to our room without asking security questions. It looks like the Hilton just purchased this property. Time for them to update this place including replacing the aging elevators.

    I really tried not to expect too much from a three-star hotel, so that's all they get.

    Ryan is right, it is a great location because all you have to do is cross the bridge to get to the beach and it is straight up in front of the marina.  The pool was pretty chill, but if you don't like families or tiny children this ain't the place for you my friends!  

    I got into a huge argument with the manager of the hotel upon check out because some fucking dumb shits at the pool bar charged some drinks to my room.  That fucker tried to tell me what my signature looked like so I pulled out my driver's license to compare it to the receipt and it clearly held no resemblance.  I told them to view their surveillance tapes from the pool.  I didn't order those shitty drinks at those times.

    The rooms were clean, the staff was friendly, but the security of charging shit to my room really sucked.

    Why the fuck would my midget ass drink Smirnoff or Seagrams? Bitch, please.

    Somewhere between a 2 1/2 and a 3........just because Bahia Mar has been around 'since whenever'.....the stalwart Ft. Lauderdale marina location (sister to Pier 66).

    My stay/visit was to attend a boating weekend with friends. We arrived aboard a friend's yacht, were greeted most warmly and our berth was most fitting and convenient.

    Check - in @ the Lobby went smoothly, appreciatively. We were afforded a room in the Tower building - thus we had views (and a small balcony) overlooking the Marina and south to the Cruise-ship docks, and beyond.

    Rooms are 'dated' but clean and the per night rate was less than 200.00.....no mini bars, but ice machine and pay-per-pop on each floor near the elevators. Bed's are 'comfy'.....with plenty of pillows and soft-as-silk duvets.

    We ate/drank at the lobby bar/restaurant each morning, some afternoons. All fine; seriously. You can grab a 2-top, 4-top and pick a bar stool without a wait.

    Attended one evening banquet dinner and we were satiated. The kitchen/staff provided and serviced a buffet line as competently as any major hotel! Chicken, fish, salads, deserts - bar stations with all of the usual brands.

    Bahia Mar is due for a remodel at some point. But, presently it still offers a decent product at a decent price in Ft Lauderdale's finest marina location.

    Hope you enjoy; we did.

    Ok. This best thing about this hotel is its location. The place is literally attached to the beach. That was the best thing about it though. The rooms were clean. Beds were comfortable. Not a lot of food options on sight or in the immediate area. Balcony can't fit a chair on it so don't get excited that you are getting a balcony. Housekeeping never came to my room to clean it. I was there for 3 days.... um what? Bathroom has an awkward set up. Someone didn't thing that one thru. I stayed in a king room. I payed WAY too much for this place. I will not be back unless it is for significantly less.

    This is my second time staying here and I think it is great value. Both times we came were off season and thought it was great value. We got the partial ocean view which isn't much ocean view but shows a great view of the marina with the mansions and yachts.

    I would recommend staying here on the location and price alone.

    Arrived in a garden room to find huge stain on the floor, mystery smears on one wall, a towel rack falling off the bathroom wall and a big stain on one of the to plastic lawn chairs at the only table in the room. As the shower curtain was falling into the tub during my kid's bath my wife called for a better room. The first room offered had an identical stain on the floor and was in similar shape. We demanded something else and ultimately got a room in slightly better shape than the first two. Other downsides: free WiFi required re-signing on if you left your computer for a couple of minutes, satelite TV channels unavailable (like Nic, a huge problem with three kids), the "restaurant" was a bar with some tables arranged around it, and I always feel ripped off being charged $25 day to park my car. i'm giving one star because they got us out of the first room and the beds were comfortable.

    Stayed on a Sunday night on the 11th floor.  Partial ocean view was great because you got ocean and intercoastal view.  Nice staff, comfy bed.  $25 to valet ($21 to self park) seems a bit high but it is across the street from the beach.  No complaints, will stay there again.

    Checked in to this hotel on our recent trip to fort Lauderdale. Friendly staff. Hotel doesn't deserve its 4 star rating on tripadvisor. This is an old hotel and it shows. Clean but aged bathrooms. Needs some serious renovation. Overall ok experience

    Like everyone else before me, this hotel provides a great bang for your buck.  It is not luxury, but is more than adequate in getting the job done. They were going through a renovation during my stay, which should make things a little better if thats your thing.

    There was a mix up in my room due to the renovation, but they remedied it to my delight.

    It is the perfect location as it sits directly at the start of the A1A split, so you can easily walk down the strip to all of the various restaurants as well.  

    My only negative, while the food at the cafe was pretty good, the bill was a bit too much.  All in all, I'd have no problem coming back.

    Stayed here over President's Day Weekend- no other hotels available that were "ocean front" so we settled for this one.
    Hotel is nice- clean- decent hotel service. Nice pool (though "pool bar" had pretty slow service- but drinks were decent).
    The one thing about the "ocean front rooms" is that one has to know that there is a  4 lane street between the hotel and the ocean (which is common in this area and there is a walking bridge that can get you over to the beach quickly)- Nine feature of this hotel.  Room balcony was very small- and because of the traffic on the street-loud in the evening (would have fared better with a room facing the marina).
    Hotel is walking distance from a lot of great restaurants (so no need to settle for "hotel restaurant food"). Overall not a bad place for the price- and once you are on the beach- it is all good.

    We stayed at the Bahia Mar for our wedding on June 23, 2012, as did our family and friends.  Our guests received excellent rates and exceptional service. Contrary to what Lesley F. says, everything was walking distance (local bars less than 1 block away, Coconuts Grill is fabulous, right behind the hotel next to the International Swimming Hall of Fame, as is Greek Express-best Gyros in Ft. Lauderdale!).  Water Taxi Drop-Off is there, as well, so easy to hop over to Las Olas via Water Taxi.  Only 3 minutes from Port Everglades, where our Cruise Ship (The RCI Allure) left, so easy for our family to get there, and inexpensively.

    Our wedding at the Bahia Mar was everything I could have hoped it would be, and more.  We had a destination wedding, which makes for a nervous bride and groom when you are unfamiliar with the area and planning things from afar.  Trish Miracola and her team (Debra, Julia, etc.) really went above and beyond to make everything so very special and were equally as attentive to our many, detailed needs. We stumbled upon the Bahia Mar when we found it on Hotwire and stayed there on our first "scouting" trip to Ft. Lauderdale to hunt for venues.  We were so impressed with the service, amenities, and beach location of the Bahia Mar, that we asked for an impromptu meeting with Trish...and the rest is history!  We were sold instantly, and the price was absolutely the most reasonable of any of the Ft. Lauderdale venues had to offer for our party of 80 (and believe me, we met with 15+ hotels along the beach!). From the start, any questions we had, Trish was there to answer. The groom and I must have emailed her a 100 times throughout the process, and she was so helpful with everything.  She got everyone at Hilton involved - from Sales, to catering, all to accomodate our wedding party smoothly.  She is very experienced at what she does, and her experience shines through, as we saw on the days leading up to the wedding.  She was very flexible with any last-minute changes, and kept a great "can-do" attitude throughout the whole process. We are all truly grateful for all of her hard work and that of her team and everyone at the Bahia Mar.  They truly go above and beyond to take care of their guests.  We've stayed in many Marriotts, Hiltons, Wyndhams, Westins, and Sheratons in over 12 nations worldwide, and I will say that the customer service at the Bahia Mar far exceeds many of the hotels where we have had the pleasure of staying.  I can't say enough about this amazing venue!!!  Thank you again, from Katy and Mehdi Rais!

    Came to watch the game and have some food at the lobby restaurant. They wasted their money on the crappiest TV I've ever seen. It los like its a 50 inch but its resolution is horrible. I looked up the model online and its only 1000k contrast. There are calculators with better contrast! I don't think I'll ever come here again. Especially for a game. The blonde bartender was really nice though. Great drinks and great service. Horrible TV! I can get good service elsewhere.

    This hotel is dirty and ghetto - don't stay here.  It's a prime location but the  staff  general leaves MUCH to be desired!!  The valet guys are antisocial and almost seem bothered when you pull up - when you say hello or thank you,they do not respond!!!  The keys for the room continuously stop working and you have to make frequent trips to the front desk for a new one after you realize you can't get in your room...AGAIN!!  I think the best tip I can offer for this hotel is to STAY FR AWAY FROM THE RESTAURANT!!  The food is disgusting so take my advice and opt for a place that makes fresh food with higher quality ingredients!!!  There are some really great places to eat around here that won't serve bread with mold on it or soggy tortilla chips!!!

    This place is in a fantastic location.  You can go on an over street walk-way and be
    right on the beach. We arrived early in the a. m. and wanted to check in early.  Our room wasn't ready so we received a complimentary up-grade to ocean view.
    They have a beautiful pool & other amenities.  The rooms are so so & certainly not more than 3 stars.  The restaurant is not a place to go.
    If you like mega yachts, you will be surrounded
    by them @ close by marinas.  This isn't the
    Ritz Carlton, but the price is right if u go to
    Expedia.com

    After reading a few of the other negative reviews I had flash backs! As a Hilton Diamond I travel and stay in many of Hilton's property's throughout the Southeast and a beautiful view they have indeed. However the property is FAR BELOW STANDARDS. From the one elevator that was soooooo slow and un air conditioned to the staff that struggled at times to remember that the customers opinion does matter. Don't waste your time folks, after checking out and getting a copy of my folio my credit card was billed for an additional "12" nights. SERIOUSLY

    Good location and ocean view. Breakfast could use more variety and change up occasionally (especially for regulars or long stays).

    I got stuck in the marina building once that felt like a time warp old hotel/motel room and wanted to leave. It didn't help having a run of teenage girls from Brazil on their equivalent of sweet 16 here.

    Location is great for beach access, especially the skywalk over the busy street.  Also easy to jump on the Water Taxi for a trip to Pier 66 marina or downtown Ft Lauderdale.  Bahia Mar Marina provides great boat and yacht viewing from your room.

    The rooms are just ok.  We stayed in the 4-level building across the parking lot from the main building.  Our room keys stopped working 3 times in 2 days, and the walk to and from the main office for new keys was a pain.

    Price at $259/night the week we stayed was alright; we could have saved a bunch by staying a few miles away, however the Bahia Mar Resort's proximity to the beach, skywalk and water taxi were strong positives.

    This hotel was very disappointing, I've never heard of a restaurant/bar closed at peak lunch time. Service was terrible anyways. Servers and bartenders are inexperienced. The only area open was the pool bar at 1130 which Wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't pouring with rain. That bar also closes extremely early ! This hotel is good if you plan on only sleeping in the hotel and hopefully it's not raining !!! Rooms are old pool is old bathrooms are old, wouldn't stay again.

    I stayed at the Bahia Mar this past weekend and was extremely disappointed.  It is very hard to believe this is a Hilton hotel.  It was a disaster from the minute we arrived.  Three of my friends got stuck in the elevator (one of them being pregnant).  Once we got them off the elevator, we found out we were in the wrong tower - there were no signs anywhere outside or in the lobby indicating there were two towers in the hotel and which rooms were located where.  We had to travel across the parking lot with our loaded luggage cart because no one would help us to the older tower and take another, even older elevator.  Our room was clean despite the water stains on the ceiling; however, throughout the weekend the air conditioning was not blowing cold air.  We had it set at the lowest setting but it just never cooled off and was very stuffy.  Not to mention, the two guys working the valet/cab stand were extremely rude to our group of eight women.  When we asked them to call a couple of cabs, they immediately copped an attitude and muttered foul language under their breath, as if we were putting them out by asking them to call us cabs.  Lastly, I cannot believe the hotel parking is $23 per day and you had to park in an uncovered parking lot, with very narrow parking spaces.  I would not recommend this hotel and will think twice before booking another Hilton hotel in the future.

    We booked a room from Hotwire at a great price and this was the hotel that we got. The "regular" room rates were twice what we paid but I'm guessing that's why we ended up in the 4 story older Marina Building vs. the high rise hotel. If I had paid full price for the room we received, I would have been disappointed but we received a decent room at a great price. The hotel is across a road and parking lot from the beach but there's a bridge to the beach. It's also 1/4-1/2 mile from the main beach bar/restaurant strip.

    Well let us begin by stating the moment we arrived I knew it was bad. Upon waiting for the valets to appear we witnessed a girl get assaulted by another guest (both girls from a prom party at the hotel) while security watched and did nothing. We should have left then but instead we continued to check in from being tired from a long day and drive from another Hilton property, The Conrad. After checking into our room we went to dinner locally (see review: Coconuts) and then returned to the room. We showered and my girlfriend went to sleep while I watched tv and attempted to sleep. The air conditioning was so noisy it literally rattled the sliding glass door. Then I noticed a potato chip laying right next to the bed. Nasty considering it wasn't from us. Normally I would have checked out right then but my girl was already sleeping and I didn't want to tell her. I took a picture of it and tweeted and posted to Facebook the picture. Hilton Honors contacted me after noticing I posted it and tried to rectify the situation. The manager was notified by Hilton Honors after I checked out and responded with this email:

As a business owner that deals with over 200 nightclubs, bars and restaurants I can positively say this is the worse management staff I have encountered at Double Tree by Hilton. The location is nice but only because of the beach, not the property or dining on site. Dirty room, noisey air conditioning, clueless staff, false statements so overall a definite no go!

    Just returned from a three night stay at Bahia mar. It was ok. We were in the annex, and our floor had a distinct smell of pee. On the first day we told the front desk that a lightbulb was out and that the safe didn't work. Neither were fixed. But the location was great and the beach was great. Enjoyed the pool and the great happy hour specials. Overall not the best hotel but I would stay there again if I was traveling on a budget.

    I would spend the night enjoying the Spring Break crowd at Fort Lauderdale Beach.  I stayed at the Doubletee Bahia Mar.  I love this particular Doubletree.  It has that perfect distance from the bar scene so that you are still within walking distance but away from all of the riff raff.  There is also a short walk over the bridge that takes you down to the beach.  My room was on the corner of the fourth floor and it overlooked the Marina.  You also had a partial view of the beach and a full balcony.    The air conditioning unit sounded as if it was struggling to keep up in my room, but it was still kept cool, just a little loud.

    We stayed the night here before our cruise and it was just "okay". The room itself was fine, with some newer furniture and was definitely plenty big enough for the two of us. The building was very dated. For the right price we would probably stay here again, it is very close to the beach and sits on the marina.

    This place earned 5 stars for what it is. It's not a 5 star hotel, but after comparing it to other hotels around, it offered the most for our money.

    We showed up early, about 1, and didn't expect to be able to check in but they took care of us right away. We reserved a regular room online and paid a $20 upgrade fee for a room on the 11th floor when we checked in. The staff, from the valet to the front desk, were all very helpful.

    The room was clean, comfortable, and had a gorgeous view. It had a small step out balcony, but it was enough to take in the ocean breeze.

    The water taxi stop was 7 minute walk around the marina. Not right there, but not too far.

    Had a nice resort shop onsite in case you forgot toiletries or need a snack. The woman I spoke with in there was friendly. The bar in the hotel is fairly small, but seemed to always have a few folks hanging out. Would love to see some locally brewed craft beer served here.

    In January 2014 we stayed in the tower and had a beautiful view of the ocean & Marina.  The room was large, clean, quiet & comfortable.  The staff was very helpful with holding our luggage until check-in time and answering any questions we had.  Get a map  and the app for the Sun Trolley and ride all day for $3.00.  Or take the water taxi to the same areas.  Walk to the beach and tons of restaurants & shopping.  We read some horrible reviews about this place but booked a room there anyway.  So glad we did, we will definitely stay here again

    Let's start with the positives:

    This place is in a fantastic location, right across the street from the beach, everything on AIA, lots of dining, and shopping, etc.

    The workout facility has tons of equipment.

    The pool and pool bar are great (although drinks at the pool bar are a little pricey- but that's pretty typical for any hotels on the beach).

    Unfortunately the list of negatives is longer:

    Upon arriving at approximately 9:00 p.m. on a Monday night I was checked into a room. I had noticed upon entering that the room smelled kind of like paint, but didn't think anything of it since I had noticed that the hotel is going through some renovations. However, after having been in the room for maybe 10 minutes, I realized that I had a giant paint smear all over the sleeve of the shirt I was wearing. After closer examination, I realized it had come from one of the door jambs. So I called the "care line" and asked to be moved to a different room.

    After about 20 minutes the bellman came up with a new set of keys for a room right across the hall. Right on. I get settled, go about my business, and everything is fine for the moment.

    Let me interject here, to explain that my trip was for business not pleasure. I travel a lot for work and when I travel to the east coast, the time change messes me up a little bit. I have a hard time getting to sleep at a normal time at night, and then still have to wake up early in the morning.

    So- approximately 12:30 a.m. I am beginning to doze off and I HEAR MY DOOR OPEN. So, you know immediate adrenaline rush, I sit up in bed, yell some expletive, and scare the crap out of the man who thought he was entering an empty room. He apologized saying he had just come from the front desk and they checked him into this room, and left.

    So I get it, someone didn't make a notation that they moved me to a new room. I am a pretty easy-going customer for the most part. But just as I am beginning to doze a second time, at approximately 1:30 in the morning (!!!) there is a knock on my door.
    It's security, wanting to verify who is in the room. I have to get dressed, go answer the door, and tell this guy, my name, and the whole story.

    And after all of this, I got 4 crappy hours of sleep, was exhausted the entire next day, and didn't even get an apology. Like, I definitely did not get a "can we reimburse you for the clothing that was ruined by our error", or a "can we give you some free drinks at the pool bar for the inconvenience".  But no one even said "WE'RE SORRY".

    Bahia Mar staff, first of all, GET YOUR SH*T TOGETHER! Second of all, are you kidding me? Speaking from the perspective of someone who's job description revolves around customer service, I get that people make mistakes. Heck, I make them a lot. But it is UNACCEPTABLE to not acknowledge that a mistake was made and then try to rectify it. This isn't rocket science. It's customer service 101.

    My husband and I recently stayed here for my beach wedding,early October. The location was ideal because I walked across the hotel's skywalk to my wedding. The staff was nice and at the last minute I was able to use an unoccupied conference room to host a meeting for my wedding party. I am still very grateful for that. The elevators are small and sort of creepy. I made people ride up and down with me the entire time. I used about 10 rooms and the rates were great. My family stayed in the non tower section and their rooms were average. I had an ocean view room on floor 15 and it was extremely nice. The restaurant called Breezes in the lobby area was excellent. We ate there 3 x and the gift shop had everything you needed. I would stay again:) Thank you to the staff who made my stay excellent. Oh, I had a door incident, our door would not close and I felt comfortable enough leaving security and maintenance there to tend to it. When we returned much later everything was in tact and the door was fixed

    Reading the reviews before I had gotten here I can't see why the rate is so low. Hospitality great,Room great,view great,beach great,just a wonderful place all around.an cabs water taxi to take you where you need to go or just walk .....Great Hotel!!!

    What a sad way to spend your money. This is basically 1960s vintage Motel 6 type of property and the only thing that was done more recently was a bad coat of paint. Pathetic. Shabby tired fixtures, furniture, public spaces decor--everything. Disgusting lobby lit up in fluorescent lights that give me the jeebies. For our $182 a night room, the only thing we got for sitting in the room is two straight-back chairs. Yeegads! Not to give the guests even a single comfortable chair is really disturbing. You are basically paying (high) American prices for a hotel which would be more typical of what you'd find in Mexico. There, at least the rates would be lower and the Mexican food would be better.

    The only upscale place to eat dinner in the neighborhood is Coconuts. We went in, got told there is a 90 minute waiting line for dinner, and left to eat at a sandwich joint, which was not our desire.

    I stayed here 6 days. My sheets were never changed. I called on 2 separate occasions to have the room cleaned since housecleaning never came and they said they would send someone..no one ever came either times. This hotel felt more like a motel and the famous cookies were dry and not good. The pool is small and doesn't have a kids section. The beach access however was great. Breakfast was okay. Location excellent. All in all a mixed bag.

    Not a bad place, but it needs some updating and when stacked up against all the new hotels in the area, Bahia Mar just doesn't stack up very well.

    The service is friendly and attentive and the rates reasonable if you don't stay there during certain special events such as the annual Fort Lauderdale Boat Show, which is held right there at the marina that surrounds the hotel. It does have a really great location with a bridge to walk over A1A highway to access the beach, but if you come by car, you're going to get hit with some rather high parking fees. I'd check out their parking fees before booking because they seem to be forever changing.

    So checked in hours ago n I'm so comfy in the room it's hard to leave and I thought to myself I have to yelp about how happy I was.. Staff was all very helpful at front desk lady and the guy helping me with my bags * at first I was disappointed getting the marina view opposed to the ocean view but once in the room it was nice having things to look at.. Not all rooms have a balcony but I requested 1. I would recommend this place to friends. It's owned by Hilton/doubletree and u get the cookie at check in! There's a microwave fridge and flat screen. Free wifi and they inform u about different mini cruises that depart right next store (my  marina view) I'm hoping to get on the 630 dinner cruise 40$ .. And the room total was $120 and they took a $50 cash security deposit instead of a credit card on file which is always nice to avoid extra little fees!*

    A decent place to get away to for a few days. I wouldn't call it high class or overly friendly but it's a comfy bed close to the beach. The guys that fold towels for the pool area are a bit overzealous about their precious towels and if you are looking for impressive, Ft Lauderdale Beach as a whole is probably best for the air and sea show,  not a vacation.

    First off I am a loyal hilton patron... Double trees across the US have been way better than this hotel hands down.  We were placed in the motor lodge across the street which looks like hilton bought as an afterthought .  It seems a hotel next door went under and hilton bought it.  Property was really run down and the room I had smelled.  

     Nice marina views and parking was great.  Overall I expect more from a hilton branded hotel..  I will not be going back as there are much better hotels and deals on Priceline.  Save your money and stay at a real hotel on your vacation.

    I have stayed here twice now and hope to return to the Bahia Mar. I like the location and the rooms are not too shabby. Not brand new of course but as a traveler it is above average for other doubletree hotels. The pool and restaurant are nice as well. Walking to many other places is super easy.

    Totally just a 3. Slowest elevators ever. It's 5pm and we still have not had our room made up.  Additionally car parking overpriced.  Not hilton standards.  You cannot get a cup of coffee in this place before 7am.  If you want to watch sunrise, go for a walk or run, it's a decent location on the boardwalk strand if you want to watch people getting arrested at the public beach it sits in front of. So disappointed in Hilton for attaching their name to this.  It does explain why it is $100 per night less than other nearby brand properties.  You get what you pay for folks.

    I travel for a living... I enjoy myself wherever I go...love the location, people are friendly... BUT if you give someone directions please be clear do not try to test my intelligence at 5:30 in the morning when I just want to work out... guy gave me a map and circled stairwells when security came to escort me he said you used the staircase...   so for that individual at the front desk he gets no stars... I'm here till Friday...

    Fantastic location with easy and SAFE access to the beach. Came on a 5-day business trip, with a little perk of being in FTL!
    Yes, the rooms are outdated, but you shouldn't spend much time in your room In a beach town.  The beds sleep like a dream...the pillows are almost worthy of smuggling home in my suitcase.  The pool area is very clean and inviting. The staff keeps up the area to the best of their ability, although it does get busy around happy hour.  Good music and nice family-friendly atmosphere. Will absolutely return again.

    Nice enough hotel at a great location.  Nothing really stood out, either in a good way or a bad way.  Workout room is adequate, the rooms in the marina building are a little dated, but clean and comfortable.  Like some of the other hotels in the area, there is a skybridge to the beach.  Self parking is $21 per night, and valet parking is $25 per night.  The hotel conveniently arranges trips to the Everglades (the 3rd largest National Park in the contiguous United States, and one of my favorite places to visit), and the food at restaurant in the main hotel building (Breezes) is good.  The hotel is conveniently located near the intercoastal waterway, and easily accessible by water taxi, making it fun and easy to visit area restaurants and other points of interest.  I'm pretty sure I will be back.

    Stayed in one of the suites. It's bare bones no rugs no paintings. It looks unwelcoming and unfinished. There's no mini bar not even water in the room and I went to 3 different vending machines all of them were either out or not working. Not very many Tv channels. Overall just under impressed. Staff is nice and they give you cookies when you check in.

    Outstanding guest service and extremely friendly and helpful. Élan the concierge was amazing and attentive to every need and extremely knowledgeable of the area.  Kristine at the front desk was also just as amazing. Super friendly and went out of her way to ensure that we had an amazing stay.  We stayed a total of 6 nights and enjoyed every bit of our stay. Awesome location too.  Just minutes from down town, airport and cruise terminal. This will be our first choice to stay in the future when cruising out of port Everglades.

    I keep juggling whether this is a 3 or 4, either way I thought this hotel was nice.

    Its older and used to be owned by a different company so the upkeep isnt necessarily up to Hilton standards but not terrible either. The $25 valet service sucks balls but the beach is literally across the street so fairly understandable (although they could add a comp service for room guests or at least HHoners members). The free HH breakfast was cold, but for $6 you can upgrade to the full breakfast.

    This place has an awesome front desk staff! The view from my room 1401 could be one of the best I've had in a long time. (I hate when people say they love a room and dont list a room #). A great look and feel from the balcony.  Wifi was free and decent speed.  Anyway all in all it gets a 1 out of 2.

    The Bahia Mar is an inexpensive place to stay in Fort Lauderdale.  The rooms are basic, but clean. The a/c works well.  There's access to the beach.  Parking is around $23 per day.  It's in a great location.  I usually stay here when I go to FLL to scuba dive. If you're into luxury, keep looking.  If you want something clean, convenient and reasonably priced, it's perfectly fine.

    I am a Hilton Diamond member... I am the duke for this hotel. I have stayed at this hotel 8 times in the last 2 years.  They have pissed me off before but being right in the beach I am willing to accept the older dirty rooms!  I showed up at 4pm, they did not have the room I selected online ready.  They did not have any rooms ready.  Would have not cared but the whole point of the online check-in is that they have the room ready..  They made me wait about 30 min then found me an average room.  They gave me an ok room on a lower floor then I requested.  I made my only second formal complaint and they made it right..  

    The reason they got 1 star because I have had issues with this hotel in the past.. After the above issue I was ready to just move on and enjoy my trip.  So it was Election Tuesday!  I wanted to watch CNN or Fox for live results.  Long story short the only news channel my TV would get was MSNBC.. They spend 3 hours trying to get it to work.. This might not seem like a big deal to you but election night for me is like the Super Bowl to me..  I had to spend the rest of the week with only half the available channels and only MSNBC for news!

    You want a cheap room on the beach this is the place.  You want a nice room stay at the Hilton Marina right down the road.

    Great location and plenty of services close by. Good restaurants, bars and walk to the beach on a private walkway from the hotel. Dive shop on location as well as other shops. Great place to relax at for a few days and just stay at the hotel. No need for a car if you don't want to drive. Very close to FLL so a short taxi ride and enjoy the beach for a few days.

    I had a great experience here. It was a little shaky at first, but it ended up pretty well. There are some concerns though:
    1) no wifi
    2) no shuttle to or from the airport (the shuttle we took was ten dollars/person, and the drivers were sketchy).
    3) you cannot order a movie from the tv in your room like most hotels.
    4) elevators we're slow
    5) expensive breakfast
    Though these seem alarming, it is made up for by the beautiful scenery, the tremendous front-desk service, and proximity to the beach and pool. I had a great time there, but it could have been a magical week had the five cons above not occurred. ASK FOR COOKIES FROM THE FRONT DESK, THEYRE DELICIOUS!

    I'm part of the HHonors so always book Hilton brands when I get to town 2-3 times/year. My favorites in order are Hilton Beach (best location and great rooms but expensive), the other Doubletree Galleryone (great rooms but quieter location, moderately priced), and then this one (very good location, mediocre rooms, moderately priced).

    Pro: location is at the start of all the action and a $20 cab ride to FLL, nice walkway to beach, poolside bar, full breakfast (buffet) is $6/person upgrade (HHonors), friendly front desk, good toiletpaper and water pressure, comfy beds (though see con), cost is usually very good (as little as $99)

    Con: small-ish rooms, if you book a room with 2 beds, you get two full beds, slow elevators, tiny decks (more romeo/juliet decks)

    I'd say this is a 3 star hotel but location kicks it up one star. It's definitely worth a try if you're not looking for resort quality. Another relatively inexpensive spot and great location is the Silver Seas up the road.

    Great location literally a hop & skip from the beach. However being such a tourist trap they have unnecessary fees such as parking. 21.00 for self parking and 25.00 for Valet (not including tip). Our Concierge Ellen was not very welcoming and had a rather BLAH personality.
       The rooms seem clean and have a pretty nice size restroom. We had some difficulty finding outlets to charge our devices. The room has a small fridge,microwave and a coffee pot(ask for more sugar)
       Overall I doubt we will return to any hotel along this strip, because they extort you for parking fees. THE END.

    I'm not sure why the reviews for this hotel aren't better. Maybe my expectations are a little more realistic than others'. Anyway, we had a flight and hotel package deal, and of all the hotel options, this was our best bet. More importantly, it was across the street from the beach. We were scheduled to arrive around 9am, and we knew check-in was at 4pm. We had called to find out if we could leave our luggage if we couldn't check in when we arrived. They told us we could indeed do that, but to ask if we could check-in early when we arrived. When we got off the taxi, a nice man greeted us and brought our luggage into the lobby and showed us to the front desk. We were able to check-in at around 9am with no issues. The concierge gave us a map of the hotel and its surrounding areas and showed us where to go on the map. Unfortunately, they ran out of cookies lol.

    The room was nice, clean, and roomy. We had a half marina, half ocean view. I was good with that. The coffee maker may have been just a little dusty, but that's minor. We checked out the pool area which was very nice. The lobby has apples, and lemon water for guests. Loved the private sky walk to the beach. Plenty of restaurant options within walking distance. We had breakfast twice at their restaurant, Breezes. It was good. If I ever come back, I would absolutely stay here again.

    Customer service was fantastic!!! Suzanne was amazing!!!!!!! Wifi is not present, outdated movie service, they do have hbo! And elevators have issues! Bar was great Ashley was incredible!!!!     I wanted to like this hotel way more than I did.  I'm going to go with a pro-con format as well.

    Pros:
    Great beach access
    Pretty close (15 min) to airport
    Close to high quality restaurants
    Clean room with a GREAT view
    Honestly, I love whatever cleaner they used in the room, because it smelled citrusy and sweet.
    Decent quality menu offerings at the restaurant

    Cons:
    Uninformed staff (we were misinformed about rental hours, bar hours and status)
    Limited menu at dinner at the restaurant
    Bit of a dated feeling

    I would return for a discount, but not necessarily at full price.

    This is a great place to stay unless you want good customer service.  Beach and pool towels available when you need them.  A refrigerator that works and a restaurant that adds an 18% tip to your tab no matter what the service was like.  But don't worry.  Nobody that works there cares.  I am Hi,ton Diamond.  I stay at Hilton properties up to 100 nighties a year.  If this is up to their standards I will be changing motel chains.

    We requested Oceanfront with balcony.  Very disappointing room.  The balcony is only 20 inches and you cannot sit out there.  You can walk out and stand there, if you want.  

    The pool is noisy, they play loud Pop Rock, morning noon and night.  I just want to sit by the pool and read and relax.  The barmaid refused to turn off the music at 11 o'clock in the morning, when I asked her.  She did lower it.  

    Also, why have a poolside bar?  If you're not going to offer people refreshments?  We've been here 3 days, and I can't wait to leave.  I would not recommend this place, if you want quiet and relaxation.

    The beach is beautiful, but you have to pay for chairs and umbrellas.

    So I normally stay at a different major chain.  However this time I was in town for work, and my family (wife and 2 girls) were tagging along.  I picked this place because of it's location although I had heard "ok" things about the hotel itself.

    Location: GREAT! walkway to the beach (dont have to cross the street).  Short walk to the bars (if you enjoy that) & restraunts.

    Building/Rooms: ok; certainly the place needs an update.  I am not one to change rooms, however our first room looked like it had been barely cleaned or not used in about a week.  Also 2 doors to the closets were broken.  The pool can use an update/repairs around the surface.

    Food: onsite SUPER expensive and not worth it.  Right across the parking lot though, the place called All About Food has EVERYTHING you can need and they are friendly and the prices are very reasonable.

    Service: cleaning & valet people are AWESOME, friendly and very accomodating.  Front desk is ok; if you are used to a certain Diamond member type service, you may have an adjustment.

    Overall for the price & location, it's ok but honestly middle of the road if I would go back.

    We paid a higher price for oceanfront with balcony. It was literally the smallest balcony I've ever seen. No room for a chair to enjoy morning coffee looking at the ocean. The hotel was very clean but very outdated and seemed subpar for a Hilton hotel.

    Location, location, location... that said, the rooms need updating, however, you're on the beach in south Florida,  go outside and enjoy the area. I would stay again for the proximity to the water on both sides, the water taxi, and the boat rentals. If the water is not your cup of tea, why are you staying here to begin with? It is a Hilton, I do expect more, but it's not a terrible place, just slightly older.

    The rooms are a bit overpriced and mediocre but that isn't the problem. The service that I have received has been horrible. I cannot believe that I spend hundreds of dollars to stay here and The bellboy who took my luggage to my room was rude and lazy. But honestly I would have to say the worst experience I've had staying here the last couple of days is when I went downstairs next to the hotel to have a cigarette and I was standing in the corner smoking and a security guard from the hotel comes up to me and in an extremely hostile and rude way says "do you have a room here?" and I reply, "yes why."
    And he says "what room?"
    And I reply with my room number and again ask why he wanted to know.
    At this point he demands to see my room key and has yet to give me an explanation to why he is basically interrogating me for standing outside of my hotel smoking a cigarette, by the way it is a gated entrance to come into the hotel/parking lot to begin with  and it is staffed and requires key access.

    I ask him again why he needs to see my key, and he continues with his aggressive hostile and rude demeanor so I show him my key at which point he tells me I have an attitude problem. I would like to point out once again I was standing next to my hotel smoking a cigarette that requires a gated access to enter to begin with. The ruse demeanor that I experienced at the expense of hundreds of dollars to stay in a mediocre hotel is extremely offensive and disappointing.
    I do not suggest staying here unless you're getting a $400 room or more. My room is nearly $300 a night,small, unclean and the staff has been phenomenally rude.

    Unless you're using the water access for a boat it is not worth the trouble, time harassment or money.

    I have a gorgeous ocean view room- bed is comfy room is clean.
    That's where the joy ends though.
    The kitchen for food by the pool closes at 5.
    The ice machines were broken on my floor, so I had to take the EXTREMELY slow elevator to two other floors ( taking literally 20 min ) just to find out those ice machines were not working either. Requested ice to be sent to my room, it never was sent.
    Trying to find something to eat seemed easy enough, there was a menu in the room and names of the restaurants but room service was for lunch/dinner only ( and you only had one menu for one restaurant with dinner options only) - other than that you could pay 22.00$ for a breakfast Buffett per person!
    I have a beautiful clean room, so I am happy with that, but customer service should be improved so I don't feel like a burden asking for ice or extra pillows.

    Police woke up my friend, JB, in the early morning telling her that the room was not paid for. She was called once ahead of time, while she was attending a leadership conference and not given a proper chance to explain in order to resolve their mistake. It is worth noting that she was the only person not having an all-night rager on her floor and that this sort of intimidation was a senseless public humiliation.

    AVOID AT ALL COSTS. If the resort sees the error in their ways, apologizes, and generously compensates for their abusive behavior towards her I will amend my review to reflect this. Until then, I would recommend not setting foot in this resort.

    Dingy hotel in serious need of a makeover.

    Room accomdations were very poor. No desk, terrible lighting and odd bathroom arrangements.

    Elevators were excruciatingly slow and the lobby was spartan and anteseptic.

    The slimy restaurant off the lobby doesn't offer room service but they still try to stick you with a gratuity charge when you pick up. Classy.

    Only reason this is not 1 star is the front desk help was cheerful and pleasant.

    Two star quality hotel at a five-star location with easy beach access and above average (albeit old school) style gym near an ok pool at this dated facility.

    The reason the ratings at this property are all over the board is based, I believe on the expectations of the guests.  It all depends on what you value in a property.  If it's most important to you to have fantastic beach access- then this is the place for you.  If however, you value nice amenities and an opulent property, this is definitely NOT the place for you.  I will have to give them props on an above average workout facility where you can pretty much workout any body part you choose.  It's old, rickety equipment though- so be warned.

    Staying here served the purpose of my trip, which was spending a single night prior to boarding a cruise. I stayed here on Hilton points so that made it ok. I would definitely not return, especially if I had to pay cash. This place is not recommended as a destination hotel.

    This place is ok as long as you don't need anything once you're checked in. Clean enough to sleep comfortably, but definitely not the cleanest. The tub was pretty gross. I parked with Valet, who NEVER answers the phone. After trying for 10 minutes, I called the "care line" and explained that Valet is not answering the phone and I need my car, and all they did was transfer me to the Valet who again did not answer. Now I have been trying to call down for in-room dining, whose line has been busy for 10+ minutes. I can't get through to anyone for anything!

    This is truly a 2 star hotel in a 5 star location. My mind was blown when I checked in at 3:30pm and was informed that my room was NOT ready. They also informed me that check out was at 11am the next day. I was given a hotel with a "premiere marina" view.  If you need clarification on what that means, it means that I could see boats but a pillar was in the middle of my view. I also had to walk outside to get to my hotel room. If you haven't been to Fort Lauderdale, just know that it's super humid and not very comfortable to walk outside after a long day of work. When I got to my room, I noticed that my lights were not working. Root cause? The lights were not plugged in. The only issue is that there were no outlets near the lights....

    Bright side, it's across the street from the beach and it's a wonderful beach. Yay.

    I just stayed at the Bahia Mar with my husband for 3 nights. The location of this hotel is great. It is a quick 10 minute, $20 cab ride from the airport. It is located directly across the street from the beach, with a walkway leading from the hotel to the beach. The hotel is also walking distance from an abundance of restaurants, bars and shops. The pool area is very nice with a bar and several lounge chairs.

    The room that we stayed in was good, but nothing special. There was definitely plenty of space and the small balcony gave us beautiful views of the ocean. The bed and pillows weren't the most comfortable and the decor wasn't that great. The hallway on our had a pretty unappealing smell to it.

    Our stay came with complimentary continental breakfast since we are Hilton Honors members. There was plenty of fresh fruit, pastries/muffins and yogurt/granola options.

    Given that we were in Ft. Lauderdale for the beach, this hotel was great for us. I would definitely return if we are ever back in the area!

    We are Hilton Honors members so we have a lot to say ;). Roll with me.

    Pros - it's a Hilton property.  The front desk staff is good. Very professional and took card of the two girls on our trip with extra cookies while their room was being prepared. Breezes cafe for complimentary continental breakfast was good for a $6 up charge you can get access to hot food options. Pool was fabulous. Big and kid friendly. Fitness center is good and adjacent to pool outside which is nice. Everything is outside vs the gym inside the main property.  Shower and faucet pressures are good. Housekeeping staff - great! Very friendly and professional. Bed is comfy. In room safe is awesome and not listed online (boo - this is important and needs to be!) Our room had a micro and fridge with an ocean view .

    Cons - one of our two rooms were not ready upon check in. Took almost until well after 5 pm for room two to be ready.  Get it check in is at 4 pm but there were other room challenges getting those ready fo other guests  as well. It's an older property. Judging from the elevator notification it was once a Radisson property. No stairs with everyday access from floor 1-16 and there are only two very slowly moving elevators. Get ready to stand around a lot.  It's an older facility and the stairs are reserved for emergency only. The bar at the pool - AUTOMATIC 20% gratuity added to your bill. Infact - most of South Florida operates this way.  So much for the concept of paying for performance.  Our understanding is there are visitors from other parts of the world where it's customary not to tip. Get it but not a fan of employees not having to earn it. The Bartendar this week at the pool bar - eh. No personality. No extra effort.  I would gladly have added more but didn't see more.

    Decent location a small walk from the super busy part of A1A.  Would stay again.

    Stayed here for a business trip and it's an OK place.

    The location is great as you are across the street from the beach and witching walking distance and plenty of restaurants and bars.

    The hotel itself is a little outdated and in need of a clean up. The lobby is small and the rooms are standard. No balconies but the sliding door opens with a small ledge to stand on.

    Pay for the location, not the hotel.

    This place could pass for a CRACK DEN!  Seriously...the only thing my room is missing are the chalk lines outlining the dead body.  For the price my company paid to stay here, I would have expected more...like some modern amenities, i.e., FREE WiFi in the rooms.  Why, in present day, are hotels STILL charging for this?  Fortunately, I don't need WiFi to Yelp this dump.  OK, onto the review.

    ACCOMMODATIONS:  
    The rooms are outdated and are need of SERIOUS upgrades.  The only thing inviting is...well, actually there isn't.  Upon entering, I was greeted with old stucco walls that have been painted over.  As I went further into the room, it became warmer and warmer.  And by "warmer," I don't mean inviting.  I mean to say that it was noticeably warmer on the other side of the room!  There isn't an electronic thermostat with an AUTO setting.  It's either Low, Med, High, or Off...but even on High, the HVAC was not strong enough to cool the entire room.  How about the ceiling in the halls?  It's a DROP CEILING circa 1980's basement!  It's sad...so so sad.

    And then there's the pool.  This takes me back to the early 1970's when the family would stay at a cheap motel, replete with wrought iron fences surrounding the perimeter.  Well, in order to access the pool, you have to walk passed though one of these gates.  They have an outdoor bar by the pool.  But I'm still baffled as to why the Front Desk clerk called it a "Tiki Bar," as there is nothing "Tiki" about it.  I would prefer to call it a "Tacky Bar."  C'mon!  This is the ol' "lipstick on a pig" situation:  You can put lipstick on a pig - but at the end of the day, it's still a pig.

    SERVICE:  
    The only thing I would applaud is the service.  Friendly service was abundant from the valet attendant, to the bell captain, to the front desk staff...even to the bartender in the main lounge.  I would give Bahia Mar more than one star on the service alone.  However, the accommodations are severely keeping them from running with the "big dogs."  

    OVERALL:  
    If you are a young "Spring Breaker" looking for a place to crash, this is a great place for you.  But if you're like me and have more discriminating tastes, for about $50 more per night, you can get a serious upgrade to the Renaissance Ft. Lauderdale Plantation Hotel.

    Bahia Mar was about what I was expecting. We paid $144/n via Hipmunk (YSB discount) and I wouldn't pay more than $150/n for it. Another YSBer actually Googled it because she had a theory that the smaller building we stayed in wasn't originally a Doubletree, and she was right - it used to be a different hotel/motel until they converted it over.

    PROS:
    .very good service. Front desk plus "careline" were very efficient. Warm cooking upon checkin, though my roommate got in at 1am and no cookie for her, apparently.
    .rooms were clean and beds were overall comfortable, though a little lopsided it seemed.
    .microwave, fridge, and safe in the room! (Not mentioned online)
    .could be a pro or a con - no dressers, but you have these laundry basket-type things instead. Still plenty of space for clothes, but everything is visible vs. in drawers.

    CONS:
    .very thin walls. We didn't have an issue with this bc our hallway was relatively quiet, but other YSBers had some loud neighbors.
    .I didn't really like that we weren't in the main building.
    .bathroom light flickered for a good 30s before turning on. Meant to call maintenance about this but never did.
    .shampoo/conditioner bottles were tiny and also hard to squeeze out.
    .NO FREE WIFI. Hilton HHonors members get it (but you have to be diamond/silver/double diamond whatever, lol) for free. I happened to luck out because AT&T U-verse customers also got free WiFi, and a friend of mine had given me his login a while back for HBO GO, so I was able to have WiFi for my iPad. Otherwise I would not have been pleased.

    I was kind of shocked to see Bahia Mar rooms going for $225+ per night on the other "discount" sites (Expedia, Orbitz) - I definitely wouldn't pay that much for it, though it's possible that the rooms in the main tower, especially the marina view ones, are nicer. (We had a "courtyard" view, aka parking lot, but there were also palm trees so no complaints about that.)

    I'd stay here again if the price was the same, but based on other hotels I visited when in the area, my top choices would be B Ocean or Marriott ... I believe those were like $300+/n though so you get what you pay for.

    I started looking for a room for Yelp Spring Break 2015 and should have known when the hotel kept popping up on all the discounted hotel travel sites that I would probably not be impressed.  I have gained no Hilton Honor reward points in years, and visits like this remind me of why I fell out of amour with the chain.

    I was able to get a marina view room for $138 including tax with some points I was able to use from a different program I belong to.    

    We checked in during the middle of the night about 2am and went directly to the desk, there was one guy working, he didn't offer a hello, or smile but did hand over two warm chocolate chips cookies upon check in.  I told him that I had a reservation, he pulled up my information and I asked if it was possible to upgrade to an Ocean View room, he said no, and offered no explanation (ie, we're booked, you can't upgrade because of this or that etc), so I asked if the room I was getting was still the marina view, he never said yes or no, just stating that I would like the room.

    He explained that valet parking was $34/day or I could self park for $21/day.  I went with self-parking.  He directed me to park behind a smaller building that was not part of the building I was standing in, but I paid that no mind as it was 2 in the morning and I had just completed a 9 hour road trip.

    The security guard had to tell me twice where to park, as once I got back in my car, I realized the desk clerk had just said park on the other side, but didn't really give any directions to getting to the other side.

    I finally made my way into the smaller building and immediately was turned off by the smell.  It like there is a stench in the hallway, but maybe its just the building is old and there is no way to disguise the smell.

    Thankfully, the Hilton brand allows you to connect to your own wi-fi service if you are an AT&T customer, so after calling AT&T and getting my user name and password, I was able to have free wi-fi.  Otherwise it was $5 per day.

    After finding my room, I crossed the street and was directly on the beach, so if close proximity to the beach gets the hotel 5 stars.  

    The room was clean and basic, there was a bed, a chair and a desk and a TV.  The bath tub had some rust around the metal parts of the tub and there is little counter space in the bathroom.  I didn't hear much throughout the nite, but keep in mind that I arrived at 2am and once I had the stroll on the beach, and a nice warm shower, I was knocked out until about 7am when the sun came through the window and I realized that my marina view was actually a view of the parking lot.

    I called the front desk and inquired about changing my room and was told that I could not, so that was enough to make me check out after finding another hotel with close proximity to the beach, a newer hotel with better amenities and only $30 more per nite.  I also asked if any sort of continental breakfast was available, and was told that the Breezes cafe would be open til 11 and I could buy breakfast from there.

    The hotel's website states that all the rooms have balconies. My room, again, in the smaller building across from the main building did not have a balcony or a window that opened.

    Again, the location is top notch, but the smaller building across from the main building is old and outdated.

    When you're coming to FLL, your main choices to stay boil down to which side of the Causeway you want to be.  If you're wanting quick and easy access to the beach, even staying barely a mile from the beach can be a long journey in traffic, especially if you keep catching the drawbridge going up.  So, coming to Fort Lauderdale for Yelp Spring Break 2015, I chose the Bahia Mar - DoubleTree primarily for its location.  I didn't realize how good a choice it was, location-wise, until I was there a bit.

    The pedestrian bridge connecting the hotel's second floor to the beach was great.  And it's really a small property.  My room was at the far back of the building, and it was still only twenty-five steps to the elevators.  250 steps from my room got me all the way across the bridge, to the steps leading down to the beach (see yelp.com/biz_photos/bahi… ).  In Vegas, 250 steps sometimes doesn't even get you from your room to the elevator.  It is just at the south end of the main strip of shops and restaurants along the beach. So, an easy walk to most of it,  but without so much of the drunken mess happening right on its doorstep.  I really enjoyed my sweaty two-mile-each-way "run" across the beach's boardwalk each day, and I could also grab a bite from several decent places within a 10-15 minute walk.  I will say that the website's statement that the "the shopping, dining and nightlife of Las Olas Boulevard are two blocks away" is a little overly ambitious.  (see: bahiamarhotel.com/locati… )  It's more like two miles.

    Now, I was in the "main" taller building, which looks like it has some advantage over the other building on the property (which I never ventured to).  So, I was able to see more than just the parking lot from my sixth floor room.  Amenities included an empty "dorm"-sized fridge, great for keeping your necessary hydration chilled, a microwave I didn't use, a safe large enough for my laptop, and a sliding glass door (that actually opened) so I could peer out to the beach or watch the cruise ship comings and goings. The gym (overlooking the pool, and outside the main building) was a nice surprise, with three or so ellipticals, treadmills, stationary cycles, and various free weights and things.  Being able to exercise with the distraction of a pool view helped. :)  But I only went there the first day when I was in a time crunch, as exercising along the beach itself was much more fun.

    Let's face it.  This is a beach property.  And not a new one.  There was nothing there that gave me any impression it had been renovated in years:  from the carpet, the bathroom fixtures, the "popcorn" ceiling, etc.  (see yelp.com/biz_photos/bahi… )  In the lobby, there is a faded poster for the 1984 International Boat Show hosted at the Marina next door, which I imagine has been hanging there ever since.  The only drawer in my room was the tiny one in the nightstand that the Gideon's Bible was in.  So, if you're like my wife, and like unpacking into a drawer, you won't like that. (see yelp.com/biz_photos/bahi… )  It had the feel of a decent motel, with just a lightly wider room, not like other DoubleTrees I have stayed.  

    But I found it safe and clean enough, and at a fair price for my slightly discounted about $170 a night after tax.  And they didn't try and nickel and dime me to death.  I didn't have a car, but luckily was able to rely on Uber and the kindness of friends/strangers to avoid the $21/day self-park fee (valet even more).  That would have hurt, to pay that much to park a $13/day Priceline rental.  When I asked about the wifi at checkin, I was shared the HHONORS code for free service by [desk clerk's name redacted, in case they weren't supposed to do that], saving the $4.95/device/day fee.  And when I inquired about water, four bottles magically appeared at my door five minutes later.  Sometimes you get slapped with a $30 resort fee for access to a gym and pool towels, a fridge filled with mini-bar $8 VitaminWaters that you pay for if you just breathe near them, and a fee to "rent" another fridge to be able to put your own stuff into.  Having $0 in "incidentals" was cool.

    Sure, there are nicer properties along the beach.  For example, the pool beach front pool/bar area at the Marriott just a half-mile south was amazing.  But you're going to pay for such niceties.  This place hits the sweet spot between cheap/sparse/scary, and the pricier options like the nearby Westin/W/Marriott.

    I'm a little mixed as to this review.

    I had the most fantastic time in Florida at YSB15, and the location of this hotel was spot on (G&B forever). I just wasn't all that pleased with the actual space.

    We had the pleasure of hanging out at a couple other hotels during the events we attended. Marriott had a utterly gorgeous pool area + bar, and B Ocean is literally right on it's own private beach. Both are walking distance to and from Bahia, and I probably would have chosen either and spent just a bit more per night.

    We had a very pretty Marina view, but at $169/ night the space was a tad subpar. The far side of the 1st floor carpet reeked of mildew and urine and only one side of the hotel had an elevator. Power and water went off without warning at least once and parking was extremely difficult during the day as the Bahia parking lot is shared with the Marina nearby. We just wish we'd ubered in and nixed the car for the amount of effort it took to park every day.

    We also went through Hipmunk, which we probably wouldn't use again. I'd never used a third party side before (discounts only) and we lost out on 5 nights of HH points for using the third party site. Our room was also paid in full before we even checked in, which I wasn't a fan of.

    All in all we slept very well (Doubletree mattresses are awesome) but since the hotel was not built as a Doubletree and was bought out, the walls were paper thin, and you could easily hear room tv's as you passed doors in the hall.

    I'd stay here again if only on a serious budget, and there's no way I would ever rent a car while staying here. There's just no point with it's central location and serious lack of parking spaces.
