I managed to find an old complaint I had written about this hotel regarding our stay in November of 2006.
================================

I generally enjoy my stays at Marriott hotels.  However, our experience at the Fort Lauderdale Courtyard Marriott this time was marred by a few unpleasant occurrences:

1) The bathtub in Room 302 did not drain.  We showered throughout our stay ankle-deep in dirty bathwater. I called the front desk for assistance and they were not helpful -- e.g., they indicated that they would "send someone up" but never confirmed as to whether anything was done.

2) Loud conversation in the hallways by the cleaning crew at 7:30am on Friday morning, 11/10.

3) Loud construction 2 floors directly above us (room 502) at 8:47am on Friday morning, 11/10.

There was, in addition, a very musty smell in the room that only a concerted airing could assuage.

================================

To their credit, I received a certificate for a free night's stay at any Courtyard Marriott.  The other redeeming quality was the hotel location - it was really close by a magnificent restaurant called Eduardo de San Angel.

This hotel is decent, but it's been declining over the years and could use a little more attention and TLC.

I remember staying here several years ago and I was impressed with the cleanliness, upkeep and overall quality.   But things seemed to have slipped a little since then.  With businesses closing all over Ft. Lauderdale (even the next-door restaurant, Topanga!, is boarded up), the area just appears to be struggling.

So, I stayed for several days this past week and I had a nice enough room on the first floor facing the pool.  The room had a slightly odd, musty smell when I first arrived, which I attributed to cleaning products and/or the muggy day with the A/C turned off.  I never noticed it again after day one.

The decor is fine, but not quite as nice as what I remembered. The bed was comfortable enough for me, but I could sometimes feel the springs.  I was smart enough to request a bunch feather pillows, which was very nice.

Okay, I think I'll go into Pros and Cons to make the rest of this review a little easier to read...

PROS
* Good rates - sometimes as low as $69 without discounts
* Good location - on the corner of Commerical Blvd and Federal Hwy (US1) - minutes away from the beach and central enough to most everything else
* Clean - no mold, no stains, nothing to gross me out
* Spacious rooms
* Ground-floor private-ish pool-side patios with chairs  - easily accessible from your own sliding-glass door
* Free parking - lots of spaces, even if they're busy
* Secure building - the rooms are in an adjacent but separate building, which can only be access by your room key card
* Full Breakfast - moderately expensive, but available in the lobby with made-to-order options (but Denny's is just across the street)
* A kiosk of sandwiches, snacks and beverages (including alcohol) in the lobby for convenience
* Free/included internet - wireless and wired.  It's okay, but I found the service to be somewhat slow and unreliable with certain sites like Google Maps.
* In-room safe - free to use, if you wish
* Mini-fridge and coffee maker
* Gym - minimal equipment, but at least it's something.  Also, fresh towels and packaged earbuds are provided.

CONS
* Noisy interior - the doors are thick, but even the softest noise somehow get's through from the hallway.  Doors slamming closed, people talking and even a baby crying in a room several doors down could be heard.  It can make sleeping in difficult for the easily stirred.  This might be worth asking for the quietest room in the building... away from as many guests as possible.  Also, avoid room snear the exterior side doors, which slam the loudest.
* Vending & Ice Machines - Not available on the first floor (but on all others) and bottled drinks are $2.
* Bugs?  - Not sure how airtight the rooms are, but I found a couple mosquitoes and almost stepped on a centipede one morning.  Thankfully no spiders or cockroaches!
* Housekeeping starts EARLY!  Be sure to hang your Do Not Disturb sign.  I was woken up at 8:30 one morning when a housekeeper knocked and started to come in.  They appear to start at 8 AM.

With all this being said, I would probably stay here again.  It's not perfect, but it's cheap and a lot nicer than other hotels under $100/night.  And next time I'll have the knowledge I need to help make my stay even more enjoyable.

Worst hotel I have ever stayed at! They oversold their rooms so they gave us a family of four a room that had a king bed and a couch. The room was old and smelled funny and the bathroom doesn't have a fan/vent. The front desk staff was atrocious and had the attitude that we were more than lucky to even have a room considering they were overbooked. I'm sorry but that's just not my problem. I paid for my room like everyone else. The hotel is under construction so you can forget about sleeping in any day they start promptly at eight am. They shut off the water almost daily and failed to give us a courtesy call or note to inform us of this. Imagine coming back from the beach or pool and hopping into the shower to find out the water has been turned off! And when you call front desk the answer is oh yeah, they do turn off the water occasionally. Excuse me were you going to ever tell me that? Another day they shut off the hot water and it took the engineers over two hours to figure out what was wrong. Other than the convenient location (it is right off of route one and five minutes from the beach) this hotel had no pluses. Never coming back and this hotel left a bad taste in my mouth about Marriotts which I have generally loved in the past.

Pretty typical Courtyard here and in fact, I like the bed more than I normally do at a Marriott property (I'm more of a Hilton man, myself).  The room was quite spacious, had no problem doing cartwheels and deep knee bends in the middle of the room (joking).  The bathroom is pretty small, and alas, no vent fan to evacuate the steam from a shower.  It's south Florida, the last thing I need is more humidity.

The breakfast buffet is typical (omelets, normal cold stuff, biscuits and gravy), but not free like normal.  The guy who runs breakfast might be the nicest human being ever, taking great interest in where we were from and why we were here (at 6am, no less).  Front desk staff was helpful in finding a good seafood restaurant, but didn't mention the bridge to get there was out.  It's a good location on Federal and near 95 and there are lots of cool lizards walking around outside (if you're into that sort of thing).

So-so hotel. The room is simple but clean. The breakfast options are limited to fruit, bagels, yogurt, & cereal. It's about 6 minutes from the beach which is not bad. Meh, whatever.

My family came into town to visit and I needed to find a nice reasonable place for them to stay.  This hotel has been remodeled and is in GREAT shape.  Everything from the landscaping, pool, hallways, and rooms looked great.  The staff were very attentive to our needs and always made time to greet and acknowledge the two toddlers we had with us.  The kids felt like they were a prince and princess and called it their castle.  They stayed on the first floor facing the pool and it was very convenient and quiet.  That was very impressive seeing how the hotel is at the intersection of 2 major highways.  The pool was great for kids and adults and my family really enjoyed a great stay.   The hotel is very centrally located and just a quick drive to the beach (less than 5 mins) and much more reasonably priced than the hotels on the beach itself.  It is close to shops, restaurants, and easily accessible.  My family will definitely stay here again.

This hotel was really old, gross and creepy.  I'll not stay here again.  The rooms I stayed in appeared to have been part of a hospital, condo or something else prior to being a hotel.  The ceilings were really low and the walls/ceiling was covered in stucco.  The carpeting was old and dirty.  Everything else was clean, but it just felt dirty.  Linens were soft and bed was comfortable.  Bathroom had an institutional feel.  The TV signal didn't work properly.  There was a in-room safe that was cut into the wall in a strange way.

The Courtyard brand strives to be standard, and they have done it here. The hotel was recently renovated (we were told our room was brand new) and I was happy that the hotel was as-expected. I like that I know what to expect and they came through.

Pros:
Clean room, flat screen, new "courtyard" bathroom (black counters, new tile bathroom), full service breakfast, fitness center, good service, a couple miles from the beach/everything, completely free wifi.

Cons:
Not the most attractive pool. We were by a stairwell door that led to opening/closing all night: the walls and doors do no bock patron sounds.

Not a bad location for Ft Lauderdale Executive airport. Restaurants nearby. Rooms were decent and I think price was good for the area. Friendly staff at front desk. Parking area was good with lots of lights, seemed secure. Would return again.

Newly renovated, lobby, rooms are very nice! Easy access to downtown, they have a van that will take you around to dinner or beach.  They serve Starbucks in the lobby, have computers in lobby and free wifi on property. Robin Lewis checked us in and she was very helpful.

We prefer to stay at Marriott properties because of their non-smoking policy and the amenities. This Courtyard provided clean and comfortable lodging for us for a week. The staff is very forthcoming, helpful and friendly and made us feel welcome every step of the way. They are renovating and notified us via email prior to our arrival. As compensation, they offered a free continental breakfast a la Fairfield Inn properties. The breakfast at Courtyard by Marriott properties is generally not included with the room rate so we appreciated the gesture. The breakfast attendants were a very friendly and fast working couple who kept all the items well stocked from beginning to end. Best breakfast service I've ever seen in a place like this!

The beds in the renovated rooms were still a bit on the soft side but despite our concerns for my wife's back we slept very well all week. From the top floor it is not possible to see the ocean but that was not really a surprise since the hotel is one mile from the beach and only five stories high. Noise from the hallway unfortunately is quite noticeable. So, if you have children or prefer to stay up late, know that each door you open and each word you say while passing through the hallway late at night can be clearly heard by those already in their rooms.

Hopefully the elevators will be renovated as well, just like the lobby and rooms are being taken care of right now as one smells pretty awful and the second one was out of service for most of our stay. The hotel is located so conveniently to the beach, shopping and restaurants along US-1 that any of the noted inconveniences quickly became minor ones. The hotel provides a shuttle service within 3 miles of the hotel but we didn't use it as parking at the beach was not expensive. Overall, this Courtyard offers welcome, reasonably priced and very convenient lodging in the Fort Lauderdale area.

I thought this was a good hotel. I had a nice room. The shower was nice and the bed was comfortable for me. I did find that not all of the programmed TV channels worked. Some were major channels. They were doing some painting on the outside of the building while I was there. I think the only downfall of this hotel is that it is on the corner of a major intersection. Cars and sirens going at all hours of the night. This would be a problem if you were a light sleeper. That's why I give it 3 stars. Overall a good stay within close proximity to restaurants and the beach.

Although we didn't stay there (long story), this hotel deserves 5 stars. Mary Apple was absolutely wonderful. She deserves credit for all her help.

The rooms are really nice and renovated. Although it wasn't the right hotel for us due to the location, anybody that stays there would enjoy it.

3.5 Stars

Pros:
Nice looking place, very well-kept, great staff, good location with lots to do within walking distance, nice spa and pool- both heated and open late, good amount of towels and amenities provided in rooms, nice view if you face the pool.

Cons:
Wifi for Mobile does not work- it asks you to login and then does not load so you can't use wifi here. The ice-machine was broken on our floor so we had to go up one floor for ice. The dining area (like most at hotels) is overpriced. The bar claims they have a happy hour- savings guests $2 off their $16 drinks- win? No free continental breakfast.

I would stay again because it's clean and the staff is courteous. Other hotels have better amenities and working wifi.

The rooms were updated, clean and comfy! Staff was friendly.  Balcony was nice, but when opened it was a little noisy as the hotel is located on a busy street corner.  The water in the bathroom was yellow and emitted a foul smell.

Really nice and clean hotel! Very friendly staff at the front desk. Nice small gym and outside pool. They have beautiful entrance with Bistro and Starbucks coffee, even free popcorn made fresh for game nights. There is also free parking outside and free shuttle that takes you anywhere within 3 miles (Ridge Mall, restaurants, beach, etc and runs until 9:30pm). More important, the rooms are really modern and cozy with very comfy beds (and I'm so picky in mattresses!) Love the washrooms, beautiful shower cabin and the WI-FI fi works perfectly. Highly recommend staying here! Would love to come back!
(This Courtyard is not comparable with poor service at St. Petersburg location Courtyard).

Stayed here for #yelpsb2015 weekend. It was one of the more reasonably priced hotels that wasn't beach front.
This hotel appears to have been renovated recently as everything appears to be newer including the lobby and the rooms. When I arrived I was only picking up the key because my roommate had already checked in. The staff greeted me nicely and showed me how to get to my room.

The rooms are a nice size. All have a balcony. Please note that only the ground floor rooms have a table and 2 chairs on the patio. Thought that was a little odd. Housekeeping did an excellent job of cleaning. We had a light out in the bathroom and didn't event have to ask for it to be repaired. It just happened. Towels were plentiful. Beds and pillows are comfortable. The bathroom doesn't have a hairdryer so bring your own.

Our room had a super small closet that allows you to hang some clothes. It has houses the ironing board, iron and small coffee maker.  The room itself has a mini fridge, Bose alarm clock, desk and chair.  One thing I wished that they had more of was more electrical outlets. I had to work one of the days while visiting and it was a little bit of a challenge finding an outlet to plug my laptop, phone and portable printer. The walls are a little thin so you will hear people talking, taking showers etc.

We ended up having breakfast at the Bistro which is located in the lobby. The food was decent. They have Starbucks coffee which is a perk :-). The food is cooked to order. Again the staff was excellent!

Make sure you use the complimentary shuttle to go to the beach or anywhere in 3 miles! Great added service. I will be back to this location as I feel its centrally located and its a good value.
