The guys that own the place are really great.  Very inviting and really care about your experience at their establishment.  The place has a less-anonymous feel to it than the chain hotels.  The grounds are beautiful, the pool is great (though not heated), and our room was a breath of fresh air.  It had a nice bed, great linens, table and chairs, kitchenette, lounge chair, TV.  The room had an old Florida feel but was contemporary and very clean.  This is a gay AND LESBIAN resort, but is straight-friendly as well.  It's the only gay resort that isn't boys only in Ft Lauderdale.  And, it's a block from the beach!  A little slice of paradise.

Bottom line.

Don't stay here it's a rip-off.
They should sell the rooms by the hour, the rooms are simply not nice.
I felt icky sleeping in the bed that felt as if it was older than my grandmother.

Management doesn't care enough.

And, yes, I am the person who saw a ROACH the size of a small rodent.  It's dead now.

As a local, I'm find myself often making recommendations on where family & friends should stay during their visit. I just recently discovered La Casa del Mar & it is now my go to recommendation for many reasons.

1. Beautiful, private pool/garden area .... The pool is a little small, but since there aren't a lot of guestrooms, you feel like you have it to yourself!
2. Very reasonable prices.
3. Easy walking distance to all Fort Lauderdale Beach attractions.
4. Super friendly & accommodating owner & staff.

Stayed here with my friend Annie who had stayed here before.  It's very laid back and nice to be so close to the beach but not that Spring Breakers vibe.  The rooms are pretty simply adorned and the internet here is awesome :)

It's not super fancy or blingy so if that's what you are looking for, maybe look somewhere else.  If you want a chill place to make your home base while you're in FLL though, this is a great spot.  It includes a parking spot too so if you've got a rental car, it's nice to not have to valet every time you visit (like so many other hotels, etc.)

Great location!  Nice outdoor seating. Drinks and food were very good. Didn't go for the 2 for 1 "GIANT" drinks though many others did. Pasta dishes were good and reasonably priced. Only "complaint" would be that they didn't have a lunch menu/portions.
