This review is solely for the sunday brunch. I did not stay in the hotel room so I can't base this review on that. With that being said, let me tell you,The brunch here was fantastic! And the view is AMAZING! Seriously check it out. Great place to go with your significant other or guests from out of town. Has a Key West type of decor and feel. There was many types of bread, toast, steak salad,pesto cheese salad, jumbo shrimp,prime meat, custom omellete,Belgian waffles, crepes, dessert station and so much more. It was about 30-35 a person, I dont drink but it also includes bottomless mimosas ans bloody marys. Nice decor inside and out. You can choose to eat inside or outside on the porch with an amazing view of the ocean! There is even rocking chairs you can sit in afterwards and gaze at the ocean. I can sit there all day!

I attended a wedding on the top floor.  There were beautiful views of the coastline in both directions.  I didn't spend the night, so I can't say much about the rooms (which may be the only reason I didn't feel right awarding five stars), but the hotel is very nice and has an upscale, yet relaxed, beachy, Florida Keys-type decor.  For example, they have rows of old-fashioned rocking chairs looking out at the ocean.  Everyone loved it, so if you are looking for a place to have a wedding reception, you should give them a call.

We came here on our honeymoon, and I still dream of being able to stay in that room again.  Booked through hotels.com for a fraction of the regular price, just after this place opened.  We had booked a street view room but ended up with a beach view room.  Two rooms divided by french doors, with two separate tvs. (isn't this what married couples need?)  Bed was a wonderfully comfortable pillow top.  The lobby is beautiful with great furniture and overhead fans.  The back deck has many rocking chairs to sit in while enjoying the ocean.  Down on the beach there are many beach chairs, while pool facilities include a "lazy river" tube ride.  I just loved floating around daily.

Attended family wedding the last weekend of June to enjoy this wonderful value hotel on Fort Lauderdale beach. Reserved second floor rooms with hugh interconnected balconies overlooking the ocean. The on-site lazy river with a "bucket" was very enjoyable. The ocean was quite warm this time of year.

Great view, consistently bad service, and WAY overpriced. I live close by and have been coming here for years solely for the beautiful view from the back patio lounge area, it's a great place to sit on their rocking chairs and have a few relaxing drinks overlooking the beach. That being said, every single time I have come here the service has been terrible, not just a little bad, but flat out terrible. Some instances are of course better than others, but as a whole it's been pretty lackluster at best.  Every time I come here the bartenders have also always been extremely slow, even when there's hardly anyone at the bar. They always seem to be frazzled and just basically lost in general. They also recently changed the name to the outside lounge area by the bar, which is EXACTLY the same as the old lounge, just with a different menu which is now twice as expensive as the old one (A cheeseburger used to be six dollars, and now it's twelve... for the same exact sub-par cheeseburger and cold fries...). This place has such great potential (side note: the pool area has a lazy river, which could be pretty awesome), hopefully someday they'll get their act together, but I doubt it...

I visited the grille for Brunch and it was great. So much variety and the service was great our servers kept those mimosas coming. The Banquet Chef I think his name was Daryl was really funny. I mistaken the prime rib for roast beef and he was not having it. How could I mistaken the two ..LOL. Its an older crowd with families but I enjoyed the great food!

The Pelican Grand Beach Resort is a perfect getaway for those who want beachfront property without the "cheesy" Ft. Lauderdale strip to interfere with the view.  That said, this property is not in walking distance to anything besides the beach.  It's great for a getaway from almost everything.  The staff here is attentive and personable.  The rooms have a sitting area and a balcony which adds immensely to ones comfort.  I love the beach front dining area for breakfast.  The pool is nice...and they also have a lazy river.  As long as you have a car this hotel is a great stay on the beach in Lauderdale.

I recently stayed here for three nights before beginning a cruise on my honeymoon. The hotel is very beautiful, as the previous reviewer mentioned. The deck area is very nice, especially at night. We were here at Christmastime so they had decorations up. Our room was nice and our bed was HUGE. It was the biggest bed I've ever seen. Bigger than a California king. The only problem I had with the room was that our shower drain was realllllllllly slow. We also had trouble at times getting ahold of the concierge on the phone. Also, the lazy river was down for repairs while we were there. It looked really nice though. The staff was very nice, and I really liked the bar service on the beach. The pool is WARM! Overall, we had a very nice stay. I highly recommend staying here if you're in the area.

I found the Pelican Beach Resort on the BocaRaton.com and Bites Network websites and I thought I would give their restaurant a try.

I went there for Sunday brunch and the spread was FABULOUS. My guest and I had all you can eat eggs benedict, Belgium waffles, bacon, roast beef, fish, pasta, salad, cheese, shrimp, and pasta. I also had a couple Bloody Marys and Mimosas. The total price was $30.00 for each person.

$30.00 a head is a steal! There is also a wonderful view of the beach.
I felt like I was eating and drinking in Hyannis.

Currently here, at the Pelican.  It's been a couple of cold days, so I've been adding content to Yelp's Ft L section which, quite frankly, needs it.

Anyway, rooms are clean and decent sized.  Bed is in great shape.  Fridge and microwave in the room. Beach is a bit narrow.  Decks are small.  Ice cream at the coffee shop is good.  Internet is decent.  The guys down at the valet deserve some props.  They've been pretty responsive to us, which is great.

Location wise, it's a little further north than the main tourist area, so you are pretty much either going to be staying here, getting in some serious walking or renting a car.

Excellent Sunday brunch! $34/adult but it includes lots of food and unlimited mimosas! The servers walk around with pitchers and fill ur glass constantly. The seafood pass with clams, mussels, and shrimp would bring me back in a heart beat!

Nice hotel on the beach. Ocean view rooms are at the corner with one window in the corner to an otherwise city view. But you can walk out onto the beach and hang out on the porch in the rocking chairs and a drink.

A total disaster. Yesterday we had a brunch reservation for 12.30 pm and we got our table at 1.40 pm. I still don't know why we waited that long, I guess it is because we drove all the way from Miami to get there. The buffet set up was clostrophobic and the food selection was poor. The service was fair but they were unable to find us a spoon for our coffees. What a shame to have that beautiful place and such a poor organization. I will not go to that place again.

none of the rooms were ready at 3 pm checkin time. we went to the bar and food there is good and cheaper than dining room. Bartenders were very personable. We were "upped" to an ocean- view corner suite which was huge & clean. fridge, microwave come in handy for bringing food back since hotel menu is very expensive. (Store on Sunset) The dining staff were horrible with their obtuse, dismissive personalities. Valet was friendly, reception great and friendly. Veranda with rocking chairs was sweet. It is a 2-3 mile walk S. along beach to restaurants/shopping (A1A @ Sunset & A1A @Las Olas). $6 - $8 cab ride. There was a city bus but we walked. Beach was cleaned every a.m. and other than the slight slope downwards was a blissful event. Did not hear any traffic at night. Breakfust buffet is $14-lame since I cannot possibly eat $14 worth of breakfast. They charge $2 just for a coffee to take to your room. EAT OUT, keep muffins/juice in the fridge for a.m.- dinner was ok but nothing special & expensive. Other than the food thing.  I would stay here again.  (11th floor great for outdoor weddings/party)

Very good Sunday brunch. But at abt $39 per person before tip, I think they just don't want people going there for brunch any more. After tip and whatever else they put on my card, it was $50 for a one person brunch and I didn't order anything extra. Really, $50 per person for brunch? It should be served on pure golden plates at that price. Also, the car valet service is very slow. I am giving 2 stars for the price. If the brunch was $20-$25 that would be more reasonable. If people want free booze, charge them extra.

Great place for brunch...The food is as delicious as the view. Brunch is a flat fee of $40, which includes all you can eat of a variety of tastey food and all you can drink mimosas or bloody marys. The service was great too...servers came around often with more drinks and to remove dirty plates. If you go, you should definitely sit outside on the patio.

What a beautiful view, probably the next best thing besides sitting ON the beach!  The place is a little small inside, and for Sunday brunch the lines were pretty long.  But really good food, bacon was fab, and the shrimp and cocktail sauce really did me in!  Not to mention the fact that the wait staff continually fills up your mimosas,so you have no idea how many you've had!  Beautiful view from the roof top too...make sure you take a look before leaving!

I just returned from my stay at the Pelican and it was fantastic. The view of the ocean from my room were breath taking. The staff are very courteous and helpful. The food and gift shop items were extremely pricey. Why spend $30 on a hat when you can get one for $10 from one of the shops on the strip? I'm sure someone will buy it...not me. I purchased calamari and a salad from the restaurant for $25...silly me. The food was good but I only ate once from the restaurant during my stay.  The grounds are maintained pretty well for the exception of a few things.  Nothing, too big to mention. The beach is small but you can get to it directly from the resort...very quaint and cozy. My husband left a few articles behind and the staff were helpful in locating and getting them shipped to us. Thanks Lisa and Ken.

Stayed overnight on a quick break in Ft. Lauderdale, the Pelican Grand Beach Resort is a very cool hotel.  It's large and yellow with direct access to the beach.  While many hotels on the strip are on the west side of 1A, the Pelican Grand is on the east, right next to the water.  

Rooms were long and large with two super king-sized beds leading to a sitting room with couch/chairs.  A shared balcony looking out on the water completed the scene.  Two TV's, a fridge, microwave and separated bathroom finished the space.  For amenities we're talking about a long porch with rocking chairs, bar/dining area and a pool complete with looped, tubing area.  This restaurant bar was good and service was excellent overall.  

While the Pelican Grand may not be cheap, it's a great deal for everything you get.  Between the decor, size of the rooms, access to the beach and amenities, you could pay more and get less.  Wouldn't hesitate to recommend it for a honeymoon or small family, you will be happy!

The Pelican Grand is close to being fantastic. The hotel's location is great and the ample amount of outdoor seating around the resort was a pleasant surprise. The $24-per-day valet charge was a bit annoying, but that's par for the course for beach resorts in Florida.

The Sunday brunch was a frantic adventure. Understandably, it's a hard job to predict when guests are going to throw in the towel on an all-you-can-drink, all-you-can-eat extravaganza, so it wasn't that surprising to see plenty of guests who had been waiting far too long for a table to open up. Even if you had reservations--like we did--the wait was a problem. The brunch is great, but it clearly needed better organization.

The pool area has a lazy river that's peaceful and fun. The private beach isn't huge, but it's enough to accommodate the hotel guests. It was a bit odd that you have to walk right by the diners on the veranda when you come back from a swim in the ocean or the pool... but whatever. The bar has your typical beachy beverages and does 2-for-1 deals from 5-7.

I met up with an out-of-town friend and her family at this resort, and we spent the evening taking in the bar and the menu.   First off, one expects to pay high prices at any resort, but for the amount they were charging for entrees, you come to expect a certain level of service and quality (I believe they charge $45 for a filet mignon). The drinks were all just fine.  Mind you, we were only drinking beer.  We did have to wait awhile to be served those beers, though.   We started with an appetizer of the fish dip, which was my favorite.  The dip was topped with a pickle relish, that when combined created an extraordinary flavor.  This was a winner.  Now on to entrees, I ordered the scallops originally, to find out at $31, there is only the actual scallops, no accompaniments.  Everything is a la carte.  No problem here.  I changed my order to the gulf shrimp and safron rissoto, also $31.  The food came out fairly quickly, though 2 of our table's orders were the wrong type of fish.  The server was quick to correct that situation and even comped us our next round of drinks.   As for my shrimp, they came out very tasty and succulent, and a generous size.  I believe there were 6 shrimp in the order.  The risotto, however was absolutely disgusting.  I wouldn't feed that to my dog.  I don't understand what the kitchen was thinking sending something that awful-tasting out to a customer.   All in all, if you are going to charge 5-star dining prices, every detail of the food should be perfection.  This missed the mark by a landslide.  What a stupidly overpriced meal for not much food, and poorly cooked risotto (I'm biting my tongue here).   We won't be eating at this resort again.  I'm sure of that.  I'll gladly direct my visitors to many of our other fine seafood restaurants in the future, and they'll spend half that amount.  I guarantee.

I travel about every other month.  
I have stayed in the best hotels in the country.
This resort is the best.  
The staff is outstanding,
The rooms are perfect.
The view is incredible

Went for my 50th birthday, the only downside was having to leave, and even that was great.
They let me use the resort for the few hours between checking out and the flight back.

I have stayed here before and it just keeps getting better.
Treat yourself and have the breakfast on the deck of the restaurant.  

We will be back.

Thank you for a great vacation.

Couldn't check in until 4:30pm very short staffed. The 28 dollar parking is extortion per day. So called exorcise facility is a joke. Two treadmills, one broken ,broken eliptical machine and a stairmaster from the 90's. The staff is very nice, but you can see they are on the edge. Just wanted a quiet vacation. Waste of money.

Great location, one of the few places that you actually eat on the beach and not across the street, the food is good, a little bit high priced but your paying for location. The menu is not that big, but I would still recommend it highly, very classy.

Awesome!!! The location is right on the beach and they have these rocking chairs that omg! You feel like your at grandmas house on the porch!! They have an old school ice cream parlor with the white marble counter tops- soo cute!! My suggestion is get a ice cream cone and go rock out on the rocking chairs!! O! Also they have a lazy river by the pool which is fun too!!

Southern class at it's best! I had the pleasure to stay at this hotel a few years ago on my birthday and I was so impressed by the overall exprience. I came here more recently for a drink with some friends and I was pleased to find out that not much has changed over the years. The lobby is beautiful and looks as if you stepped back into time. It's very old Florida! This would be the perfect place for a wedding, weekend getaway or family vacation.

Don't get me wrong...this is a gorgeous hotel. The rooms are gorgeous and huge and the views of the beach from your balcony are amazing.

The reason I am bombing this hotel is because of the service. As I was walking down to the beach there was a broken stair and I happened to step on it just the wrong way and I badly and very painfully sprained my ankle...to the point that I nearly fainted and couldn't walk well at al the rest of the trip. One would think that if you're paying $320 a night AND $24 dollars a day for parking that you should get five star service if something like this happens. Not even close did I receive that.

I went up to the counter with my fiance and I was very nice and polite about what happened. I work in customer service myself and I know that being a jerk about something is rude and uncalled for. So I nicely went up to them and told them what happened and they were like...Ohhhh did you want to fill out a complaint form? Ok um first of all what is a complaint form and second of all of course I do! I'm on vacation and just hurt myself on your broken stair. So I filled out this form and the guy told me that the manager of the hotel would call me. Did he call? NOPE.

The following morning I went to get coffee and I asked the receptionist where the coffee was . She said the coffee is in the gift shop and it's complimentory. So i go in there pour myself a small cup of coffee....I started to walk out and the lady in the shop goes..Excuse me mam that is 3 dollars. And it tasted like crap by the way.

Oh and the cell phone reception in there is horrible...none in the room AND the Wifi they have doesn't work in all the rooms. I was able to connect to it in the lobby and random parts of the hotel but not in my room...which is where you primarily want it. I went to use the hotel computers as well since the Wifi wasn't too good and the hotel BLOCKS sites that have no need to be blocked...one site in particular they block is this website...Yelp!

Probably because they don't want you to bomb the place....like I just did. Stay elsewhere..seriously.

I came here for their Sunday brunch for a friends b-day and it turned out to be the perfect brunch location.  Although the food was good, which I will get to in a minute, the view was perfect.  We sat right outside on the porch overlooking the beach and it was a great location.  The weather was perfect, which is probably adding a star to their review, but it was still a great little spot.

As far as the food, it was perfectly "brunch".  They had omelet station making great omelets, lots of cheese choices, fish choices, fruits and veggies, salads, and plenty of dessert options.  

The service was also friendly and fast.  Our drinks kept coming throughout the meal without interruption.  I would highly recommend this place and will certainly make a trip back.

We spent 4 nights during the week here. It was a fabulous place to stay. Our room was ocean front with amazing views and a spacious bathroom. The cleaning crew did a great job everyday. The pool and lazy river were a lot of fun. The best part by far is the beach access.

We did have breakfast there one day and the food was ok. Our server was amazing- giving us advise on places to go in the area.

If we ever go back to Fort Lauderdale we will definitely stay here again.

Came here for their Sunday Brunch, around $33 a person with unlimited mimosas and/or bloody marys, a nice spread for brunch with a carving station of prime rib, waffle and omelet station, cheeses, fruits, salads, chicken, fish, eggs benedict, cute small desserts...one small downfall was our server, she would disappear for minutes on end, with us having to ask someone else for help. there was a gentleman who was as peppy and helpful as can be with the other tables, filling everyones glass nonstop. view outside was gorgeous while we enjoyed the food and drinks

Just spent April vacation here and loved the location and facility--both are stellar!  Old Floridian-charm feel--British colonial décor and very clean--pool, lazy river, and location are wonderful.  Why I am not giving this resort more stars is because of corporate greed and mediocre, over-priced food.  First my husband and I had no idea we had to pay $30 a day to valet the car-outrageous-second, I honestly would prefer the option of getting it myself instead of having the stress of "Do you have a couple of bucks on you?" every time one wants to leave the resort, which you will want to do because the food is not nearly comparable in quality to the amount they charge--$42 for a pretty good steak without any sides.  Unfortunately at night there's only one restaurant with such over-priced, mediocre food--if you can't do shrimp right in Florida, well, there's a problem--grilled shrimp was not good--my six year old ordered a mini pizza which isn't kid-friendly in that it's very heavy on the sauce and light on the cheese-just not that good-bam-ten to fifteen bucks down the drain.  With a tip, a poolside Mai Tai will cost you $17.  Even the Emporium which is cute with a retro-charm had mediocre ice-cream--this same company owns La Playa in Naples, and like The Pelican, it thinks far too much of itself.  When my hubby, daughter, and I "slummed" it for a night at Lauderdale-by-the-Sea and ate at Ocean 101, we had the best meal for far less--my daughter devoured her $3 oversized New-York style pizza...so yes to the ambiance, friendly service, cleanliness, grounds, and fact that there were other children for my daughter to play with in the pool, but we will be returning to our usual Naples gig next April.

Meh... I'd give it 2 1/2 stars but feel it is closer to two than three. I don't think it is a bad hotel but for me personally it did not deliver considering the price.

The hotel is located away from most destinations, so you need to rent a car, pay for valet parking, and drive around if you want to see more than the beach, small pool, and never-changing menu.

Service and staff are variable. Most folks are very nice and helpful but too many were not. I'm not one for overly smiley service but I'd expect one in the service business to be at least as polite to me as I am to them as a customer. Some of the staff was, some was not. A good hotel would make sure that the latter is an exception.

Food was great on first day but the quality dipped considerably throughout the week and one dinner was terrible. Annoyingly there is practically no light in the outdoors restaurant at night (two candles per table), so you'll not be able to see much of your food.

WiFi only worked on the first floor and was quite slow. On-Demand TV didn't seem to work either and the TVs were Cathode Ray, a technology I had not seen in quite some time.

You are much better served by staying next door at The Sun Tower for half the price and with same beachfront access.  The plus here at Pelican is enjoying Breakfast or brunch on the large outdoor porch over looking the surf.

Limited outside seating and of course the open ocean can be windy or rainy. So considering that you are inside a lovely hotel and have a nice brunch, this would be ok except for the price.
I've had so much better. I just thought it was ok, it wasn't memorable, wasn't special and I'd never go back. Nothing was bad, nothing was good, it was forgetable and since I was treating a friend, it was $80 plus tax and tip/ nearly $100 (I'm pretty sure)

This is a very upscale resort right on the beach. It is the only resort that has direct access to the beach. No walking  across the street just walk out the front lobby to the amazing veranda and boom!!!....there is the ocean. The service there is great. The food is so-so. The price is a bit expensive but the place is very nice so I guess you just need to be prepared to fork out some cash. The drinks are very pricey. $8.50 for a well whiskey soda.
The rooms are amazing. We had two queen beds with a little suite room next door. Full couch seating with an extra television. This was connected to  the balcony overlooking the ocean. The view from the 8th floor is spectacular! I highly recommend staying here if you aren't worried about the money and just want a nice relaxing vacation.

If you are looking for the perfect brunch by the beach, this is your place.It's a traditional Florida-style hotel that has the best porch in the world !  There is a row of rockers to sit and take in the view of the ocean. The food is delicious and the mimosas and bloody Marys are included. Only thing missing were eggs benedict. Pricey at $47, but worth it.

Excellent Resort! We ended up here at 3am after a terrible experience in a close by hotel and couldn't be more pleased with it!
It is a 5 star resort priced as 3 star. All the staff were extremely nice and friendly all the time, doing small talk every opportunity they had. A lot of international employees, it was fun to hear their histories!
The bedroom was very nice and although we didn't get one with an ocean view, we had a beautiful one of the city as well. We had a little balcony to enjoy the view. Everything very clean and comfortable. The bed was plush but firm at the same time.
The beach is right out of  their veranda together with a nice restaurant North Ocean Grille, a swimming pool and an ice cream parlor. We couldn't have been happier with our stay!

Rooms are fantastic, veranda with rocking chairs is great and very kid friendly with a lazy river pool and ice cream parlor. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the bartendar at the bar was not very agreeable and we had mosquitos in our room. Had to sleep with one eye open and didn't rest well due to being eaten alive. You would think that for $350 a nite, they would've figured out a way to keep mosquitos our of your room! I would recommend for families tho, just bring netting for your bed.

Hands down one of the best brunch spots around.  
I don't believe there is a negative thing that I can say.

For $40, you get access to their amazing brunch buffet, with unlimited mimosas or bloody marys, along with an unbeatable ocean views. The view is stunning.

From  MTO omelets, waffles with whipped cream and berries,  fresh fruit, blintzes, and bagels and muffins galore to an assortment of cheese, salads, jumbo shrimp, fish, chicken, and  MTO pasta, everything is great...and I can't forget their amazing dessert table full miniature desserts.

This is a great location.  We found the restaurant to be great.   The waiter was great.  The property is great.  My biggest complaint was that they put plastic on the beds.  Thus getting a good night sleep is impossible because every time you move you wake up from the noise of the plastic.  Anytime, someone moves in the adjacent bed....same thing.  It it was not for the horrible nights sleep, I would have rated this much higher.  I travel a great deal and have never encountered this anywhere in the world.

I came back as a return guest from a stay in February. I was hoping for the same type of service that we came to expect. Not this time.
No friendly or accommodating front desk help. Check took 20 min to get our bags. Really and the hotel us only 3/4 full.

The Resort is very beautiful ! The 2000 Restaurant though lacks any choice for those who eat Vegetarian. The only thing available, were a few vegetable side dishes, salad and a sesame pasta appetizer which ranks as the WORST pasta I have ever eaten in my ENTIRE life. Very DRY. This is 2014, a simple pasta with Garlic an oil would be easy to fix and offer. The Desserts were good.

We are staying at the Pelican Grand Beach Resort in Fort Lauderdale. It's our first time here and we absolutely love it. We walked in to our room tonight & found this beautiful wine & cheese tray on the bed with a lovely letter from the staff saying "Thank you for staying with us". All I can say is "Wow". The staff here are truly the best of the best. They truly know how to treat a customer. They truly are making us feel at home away from home. Customer service like this is hard to find. Special thanks for Andrew, Enrique & Kathy for making our stay so special. Looking forward to coming here again soon!!

I'm reviewing the restaurant. I read that breakfast was great, so I went for breakfast and it just was not great. Service was fast but the food itself was bland. I got the eggs benedict and I just wasn't impressed at all.

Crap is the only word I can say that encompasses our experience two weeks ago at their brunch. Not only were items on the buffet crap, their service and overall attitude was crap. We are locals, and have been going here for years. Back when the price was 35, 45 with tax and tip. Expensive, but the food and mimosas's were with it.

The crab on the buffet were completely frozen still. Even after they thawed they were awful. The items in the serving dishes were gross and dried out. Only the made to order stations were good. The watier didn't bring us drinks for 30 mins. They used to bring just champagne without OJ if you asked, no more. Instead, they brought out a bottle and proceeded to pour everyone a 1/3 glass of champane after we complained. Geez thanks, you know we are paying 60 bucks a head now.

The last 30 mins, the watier disappeared. When he came back he said no more mimosas because the breakfast was over. People in his section, including us, were getting up and refilling their own Waters!!! Guess that's what happens when you auto-gratuity your tables at 20%!!!! Then, to try and appease us after we ask for a manger again, he brings a pitcher of OJ with a splash of champane. Really??? Our bill for 10 pp for breakfast was over 600 bucks!'n

Asked for a manger three times, and watched the real manager send over a watier instead. Hello, I'm not blind or an idiot.

Best of all, I went to the front desk to explain how we were treated. She took my number and no one called me. WOW. Honestly they could have cared less.

Not one of of the people in our party will be back. Half of us have spent the better part of thier youth waiting tables, including me 10 years. To get me o complain, you really gotta be awful.

Stayed here back in August and the exact vacation that I was looking for.
  Stayed in a double queen ocean view and it was the best feeling ever to wake up and drink my coffee while sitting on my own personal balconey.
  Everyday my boyfriend and I would lay on the beach and order drinks. The beach was a good size so we had had no trouble finding space in the water where we felt like it was just the two of us in the water.
  Was a little worried about hallway noise as our room was right off the elevators, but for the 5 nights we were there we never heard a peep. The food at the bar was outstanding. We ate breakfast on the porch and it was wonderful. Ate one night at the restaurant and it wasn't the best experience, but the manager was very nice and more than made up for the poor service.
  If it weren't for missing home would have loved to stay another week.

Their biggest problem is the food and service. Had chicken that was rubberry, vegetables with no flavor, shrimp that was too fishy, and slow service. On top of all that they charge a high price. Not worth it. Needs new management. This place has great potential, lost on poor employees.

Our trip was outstanding. The hotel was a smaller boutique feel. Our room on the beach was large with a living room attached. Best view ever!
The manager Aaron was very helpful in making our stay so fabulous. Crisanne at the front desk was knowledgeable,friendly and helpful.
Set far enough away from the scene, yet you can still walk everywhere.
We will definitely go back!

I had high hopes for the Brunch after reading so many positive reviews.  I took my cousin here for her birthday today.  The mimosas were weak, for the first half they were poured on a regular basis, but the second half the refills were very slow, and we had to ask 3 times for a coke refill for the one person not drinking at our table.  

I guess the buffet isn't terrible if you eat seafood, I don't.  There were oysters, shrimps and snow crab claws, a seafood Paella and maybe some other stuff - I can't attest on the quality.  Now for the non-seafood stuff:   The danishes tasted like the regular supermarket kind, not terrible but not great either.  If I am paying $47 + tip per person I expect a nice array of breads and cheeses and meats....so I was very disappointed to find the bread options consisted of generic English muffins, white & wheat sliced bread and bagels, where are the croissants?!?!? the rolls?!?! or the Artisan breads as the brunch menu claims?!? No where to be seen, a total let down.  Same with the cheeses, the brunch menu claims international cheeses, there were maybe 4 types of cheeses  and they were not great, and the baked brie was bland and disappointing.   The Quiche tasted store bought and reheated, the veggie frittata was chewy.  Standard waffle and omelet stations, nothing special, the only thing I can honesty say I enjoyed was the Roasted Prime Rib Of Beef, it was delicious, however the guy serving it served tiny slices, and even when I asked for a bit more he was very careful to ration it.  I wish I could comment on the pasta station but I didn't get a chance, there was always a wait, since all of the stations are extremely small.  

Each served station only has 1 person tending to it, and the stations are small and lacking assortment, so small I asked several times if this consisted of the whole buffet, I was wondering if there was another section I missed....there wasn't.  The dessert followed the same disappointment, I didn't see any Petite Fours as the menu stated, and there wasn't much of an assortment, I had a slice or carrot cake, it wasn't good.

Our server went MIA for the last 45 minutes, and we asked for the check 3 times.  The ambiance is wonderful, we sat outside which overlooks the ocean, it is a wonderful scenery, however I couldn't get past the small stations, the small assortment of food, the weak drinks and low quality food.  I expected a lot more, there are too many other wonderful buffet options in Fort Lauderdale.

For the perfect spot to to see Ft Lauderdale like a spoiled relaxed native this is the place for you. For you locals...... stay cation is my word for you:) Remember to tell Stephanie that Dan sent you and Stay Hungry!

The hubs and I stayed here for a little anniversary getaway. I said I wanted to stay somewhere "uber-Floridian" and not your run-of-the-mill hotels ala Marriotts, et al. So, we stumbled upon this place and couldn't have asked for a better experience.

The hotel is literally on the water. No crossing streets, no going around the corner. Literally walk outside, and POOF there's the beach! The hotel is immaculate, with the employees truly caring about the hotel itself and the enjoyment of their patrons.

Food options are limited to one restaurant and one bar, but both were great. Outside dining is available for both, as well.

The rooms are a little dated, but certainly nothing terrible. And, if you spring for one of the king ocean view suites (which, by the way is totally worth it) you have your own private balcony, a sitting room overlooking the water, and a separate sleeping area. Spectacular!

Everything is a quick cab ride away, so I'd recommend not renting a car if you don't need to as I believe parking was about $20/day.

Definitely a Five Star location being located right smack on the beach. It has a wonderful porch overlooking the beach and ocean with outside dinning, rather good food, a very nice well appointed indoor restaurant, bar, pool, attractive lobby, polite and attentive staff and spacious clean rooms. If you get an ocean view room, you couldn't have a better view of the ocean because of the fact that it is located right on the ocean.

One of the nice features is that the bar and pool area are at opposite ends of the building from the restaurant. Hence, you can enjoy fine dinning without the noise and hassle that goes along with a bar and adjacent pool.

Though other area hotels, such as the Ritz, the Hilton, the Atlantic and the W may charge more, they don't have the location or the ambiance of the Pelican since they are separated from the ocean by the four lane A1A highway. There is a big difference between being "on the beach" and being "right on the ocean;" terms so loosely and confusingly used in resort towns like Lauderdale.

I called the hotel for directions and they put me on hold 5 different times no one knew where the place was and they work here !!!!

I wanted to take my best girlfriend for her birthday to an amazing brunch. I had researched for weeks and finally decided on the Pelican Grand Beach Resort. I was so disappointed by what $50 bought us there. First of all it was extremely packed in a medium size space and I even asked if the AC wasn't on. The waitress was sweating as well as my friend and I She said it just gets very very hot due to the omelet station that's in doors. . We asked to be moved to another table or maybe outside for fresh air. I was told those seats were reserved. Our view was of the back of a sign (they are doing upgrades to the resort so they have a huge sign announcing the upgrades that blocks the window so we didn't have a view although we were by the window. The food was nothing out of this world you could have a better brunch at the million choices we have in Ft. Lauderdale and probably pay much less. The mimosas were delicious, but gave me a huge headache. My husband says that happens if they use cheap champagne. I wouldn't recommend this to brunch to anyone.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel back in January 2012, my first time to Florida.  I believe we stayed 4 nights, 5 days? There were some good things about this hotel and a lot of not so good. I want to focus on the good, FIRST. Absolutely LOVED the view. The ocean was so beautiful. I believe ever room has a view of the ocean so it don't matter what floor you are on. The room was very large it had a little living room you could call it, a large room with two beds in it, the bathroom, room to store your clothing. I fell in love with the heated LaZy pool!!! Everyone at the hotel was very nice. The beach boy was out there to hand out towels and they handed out free ice cream. Seriously, whats better than ice cream on the beach?! :) They also have a little cute café type area its super small but they offer some good icecream just make sure the seagulls don't snatch it out of your hand like they did to me!!! Stay inside and eat your food :p

Onto the bad..............the bed, not very comfortable. The food was so expensive we didn't eat at the hotel one time :/ We're talking 30$ for a buffet I believe? Or more. Crazy expensive and NO discount either. We spent good money to stay here so I thought we should have had SOME type discount on food especially since we were no where near any restaurants. We did have a drink at the bar, I enjoyed the atmosphere but honestly it was super packed so we just sat in the lobby and drank. The alcohol was not very strong and the prices were like 11$ a pop or higher. They did garnish my pina colada with a cute flour though =) The hurricane apparently hit this area pretty hard as they were working on the actual building during our stay =/ There was very little beach. There was NO gym. It said gym but I think maybe one tred mill? The sun was unfortunately minimal our entire stay. The main thing I was unhappy with was that we wern't informed about the valet parking that was 28$ A DAY - until we got there.

Advice - if you DONT drive here, I wouldn't advise you to rent a car, instead take the BUS better yet, walk! take the water taxi. I feel this hotel is out of the way of all the stuff there is to do so if you plan on going places other than the beach I suggest looking into some form of transportation.

Don't waste your money.  First, I'm a New Yorker and I like things clean and tasteful. The rooms smell like mildew and retirement homes.  The bedskirt was literally falling off my bed.  The chairs on the patio of the room were dirty, too dirty to sit on without cleaning first.  The service at the hotel was terrible. I asked for a hardboiled egg for breakfast and it took 30 minutes, was literally RAW and then they charged me for it on top of it all.  The place is too expensive for the level of mediocre service and the decor is like a bad motel 6.  Go somewhere else if you want a fancy, chic place.

Perfect spot! Greeted by Alex, one of the hotel staff who was friendly and took the time to let us know where the pool, restaurant, bar and beach access was before we went up to our rooms. His friendly demeanor set the tone for our whole stay. Beach, pool, bar and restaurant all within 30 seconds of each other! Poolside service was great, Desi our waitress was always keeping an eye out for that empty cocktail, Kyle and Akeem the pool attendants, were very friendly and helpful. The hotel restaurant was a mind blower! We expected mediocre and over priced food but we were WAY wrong. Food was amazing and the service impeccable.  Loved it. I loved that this place did not have a chain hotel feel. I don't need to have a mall in the lobby and impersonal sterile feeling rooms.  I wanted a certain familiarity and comfortable feeling and this place hit the mark big time. The entire staff absolutely nailed the balance of good solid service combined with a friendly relaxed attitude.  Will be back and several family members will be heading there based on my recommendations.

My husband and I had a small destination wedding here, and our wedding ceremony at the Pelican Grand was absolutely beautiful. We purchased their $2,000 destination wedding package, because it came with a wedding ceremony musician, a champaign toast following the ceremony, an officiant (that we ended up using because we had our own), padded chairs, the option of getting married on their private beach, and a photographer (which we ended up booking for the reception as well).

When I arrived (the bride), I was given an empty hotel room to stay in for an hour before the ceremony started. This was not part of the package, but was a very generous addition on behalf of the hotel staff. Janeth is the Pelican's event coordinator, and she guided the entire ceremony smoothly and professionally. Our ceremony ended up being on the hotel's rooftop, as the beach had been damaged by Hurricane Sandy, and our view was breathtaking. We took photos after the ceremony on both the rooftop and on the beach, and they were stunning. For a northerner, my winter wedding ceremony at the Pelican in Fort Lauderdale was a wedding in paradise!

We had our reception elsewhere, because the Pelican's reception prices were not in our budget, but I bet the Pelican puts out a fantastic and tasty spread!

We went to this hotel for a wedding and stayed a three nights.  The view and beach were amazing!  When you walk out of the back you are standing on the beach.  We sat on the beach and had lunch.  The food and service was great.  We will be back!

The wife and I wanted a good brunch for the family this past weekend and we are happy we picked Pelican Grand! This is the real deal of buffets. Omelette station, waffle station, some other hot food station, Stone crabs, oysters, shrimp, salads, carving station, a bunch of other yummy goodness and desserts as well.

It costs $50 a head so don't come with a buffet appetite and a Denny's budget!!

Visited with my family for my grandmother's 90th birthday.   There was 16 of us.  The youngest was my daughter who is 4 years old. The resort is nice and the staff is very friendly. Kyle by the pool is extremely nice and very attentive
 The price of the food is expensive and the quality is ok. I recommend eating meals away from the resort one night the cost of dinner and drinks for all of us was over 1200 which is crazy.  The rooms are spacious and nice.  Tonight my wife ordered a 8 oz fillet and requested it to be cooked medium.   It was served well done so she sent it back. Then they sent a new one this time it came rare so we sent it back and they took it off the bill. Yesterday 5 of us wanted over 45 minutes for lunch. The. Kitchen seems very slow.  Over all 3 stars.  Gorgeous views and rooms service is slow and food is over priced.  The staff is great

By all accounts the Pelican Grand on the surface looks like a very nice hotel. However three days later I'm not impressed. It is one of those hotels that wants to cater to the exclusively wealthy but lacks the fine details necessary to do so. The Pelican Grand offers all the amenities one would expect but delivered in an overall package of unsavoriness.

By this I mean, the general living quarters was not maintained to a higher standard/ my standard which may be unreasonable. But on this stay at 325 / night in a hotel rated at 1200.00 a night my expectations were certainly higher than a typical suite at the embassy suites. First and formost I am not a fan of staying at a hotel where everything is a la carte, and I mean everything, even a second cup of coffee will cost you here. Mandatory valet parking is nice, but at 25.00 for this service it leaves me saying "no tip", Even though we tipped anyways. Sometimes three times a day.

The room was clean, yes, but the fine details were not. The corners in the baths, a repaired section of door latch that was just slathered on joint compound. Lower corners of walls and edges that were disintegrated and not smooth and finished. Sticky doors, which is to be expected in an ocean front room, but not at the Ritz Carlton for the same money.

I approached the front desk one time and was ignored for longer than I thought was reasonable. However the girl in the ice cream shop made up for that oversight with perfect attentiveness and graciously opened a can of sweet corn for me without expectation of reward.

Overall I rate this hotel a 3. That is two points for the view and one point for the ice cream shop attendant. They've got some work to do by my standards if they're going to expect me to come out of pocket again. Give me a 300.00 a night room and I'll gladly pay it. But if they're selling rooms based on the view, I think we could've done better.

Lest I forget, they had water problems at 0900, resulting in a stoppage of water for roughly an hour which of course made getting the family moving all the more difficult and we were still expected to vacate the room on time.

Best best best vacation ever!  Location is Grand!  We drove to Miami beach for the day-what a waste of a day.  No comparison to this resort & beach!  The Pelican has a wonderful long veranda with rocking chairs that even my 17 year old son enjoyed hanging out at night!  It has its own private beach & the staff pamper you like royalty!  They set up lounge chairs, umbrellas & towels wherever you like on the beach & as if that wasn't enough.. A beach waiter serves you hotel food & drinks with a warm smile!!!  Ice cream parlor... Sade made my son a HUGE sundae for his birthday!  JoJo is by far the best waitress there; and everyone is outstanding!  She went out of her way to serve us & was so kind!  We're from California but will definitely be back!  We haven't even left yet & I'm telling my Cali friends they HAVE to visit The Pelican!  Seriously, you can't pass this place up!

Nice place right on the water - clean hotel and location is great.  Close enough to the business but set back far enough from the rifraff.

Food here was very good in the pub and the main dining room - nice take on american classic cuisine and the calamari is very good.  Service in the main dining room was...ahhh...trying way too hard.  

Bellman tipped us off to a very nice Italian bakery within walking distance.

Tip: go to the hotel next to the Pelican and get the fish tacos.

They did have valet parking, but we didn't have a car - VIP yo.

I really enjoyed staying at this resort, it's an ocean front. There's a spectacular view with a lot of great restaurants next to it. The pool is super cute, it's right next to the beach and there's also a lazy river. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We brought our own floaties and they blew it up for us without charging us anytime. They used coconut mango scented soap and shampoos. I'm in love with that smell!

Beautiful hotel. It looks kinda retro. Went there today to have my Cabin Crew graduation. Loved the amenities, it looked retro and tropical. Services are good and the staff is friendly.
Would definitely return. A bit pricey though.

Amazing stay! Beautiful property, great location right on the water, excellent service, friendly staff and the restaurant was incredible. They also bring you cold watermelon as you sit on the beach :)  lunch and drinks can also be served without having to leave the beach (private beach). We will be coming back very soon. The best quick getaway ever!

I love this place.  I will not stay anywhere else when I am in Ft Lauderdale.  The staff is great, the beach is right there and beautiful.  The only down side is that there are little repairs everywhere that need to be done.  During my most recent stay, I noticed grout missing in the bathtub, railings that needed a fresh coat of paint, etc.

Absolutely the worst hotel ever!
The maids scream and yell down the the hallways in some African language screaming at one another, they had screaming children at work with them .When I asked them to be quite she screamed at me in her horrible shrill voice! and I'm the Guest? The water in the toilets is yellow! There where spiders in our bathroom. and pubic hairs on the floor.All the furniture is banged up. There is never a manager on duty, and they apparently don't have names or schedules.  The piña colada that we ordered beach side was  undrinkable. Stay away !!! At $500 a night?, what a joke!! A disgusting property with horrible service, its too bad it has a great view.

Just wanted to share my thoughts about this resort. My wife and I had just stayed there last week and we had a great time there.  The location was great. Service was even better.  Although we had noticed that the resort was going through many renovations, even our room on the 7th floor ocean view corner room had a visible crack in the window, we had a great time.  Another thing that we noticed was the resorts workout equipment on the 10th floor seemed pretty outdated.  I would definitely recommend this place to all my friends if they are looking for a nice weekend getaway.  Oh I forgot to mention... if you rent a car and are planning to stay at this resort... please be aware that you will be charged $30 per night for your vehicle.  In my honest opinion I think this fee should be waived because your already staying there as a guest.  Hope this info helps anyone that reads these reviews.

This place is trash!!!! My husband stumbled upon this place for a great price. Once we arrived we were given the wrong room number, placed the  key and come to find out that there were already people assigned to the room. The view that was assigned to us was trash just like the Hotel! Our key wasn't working to our room!!! Don't go to this place!! If you want to enjoy a good stay, this isn't the place for it. Horrible service!

I've waited 1 hour for engineering to come and replace a smoke detector battery. The hotel is under renovation. It means you can't sleep in because the workers are making noise!

Great Place!! We had such a great stay !
The service was wonderful,the food was tastey and we loved the heated pool,lazy river and the very warm beach!! Sade in the ice cream shop is the sweetest!

I will say, for what it is, it's just about as good as it gets.

Our room, an ocean view king suite, was simply perfect. It seemed very recently renovated, with fresh carpeting and paint, and nicely appointed furniture. We had a nice office/living room with its own TV, and our own private cute little balcony. The king size bed was divine!

A few other things I want to point out -

1.) People on here say the construction is really bad right now. We were there over a long weekend and didn't hear a peep! I asked the front desk and the construction only goes on during the week.

2.) While the beach attendants and service staff here are incredibly kind and gracious, the beach itself isn't much to write home about. It's very narrow! Like only 10 feet from the steps to the water. Worried this place might get swept out to sea in 100 years. +1 though for the nice fruit infused water they have for free. We didn't spend much time in the pool so I can't really comment on that.

3.) There is a cute little ice cream shop/snack and concession stand inside. This is very convenient. You will also need it as there is nowhere else really in the immediate area to buy these sorts of things offsite.

4.) The restaurant was fine - good, but slightly overpriced for what it was. My scallops and shrimp curry were divine though! And Steve, our waiter, was a real gentleman.

5.) If you're here for more than a day, you'll want to get offsite at some point. If you can help it, don't bother bringing a car. Uber is only ~$10/ride to and from the "Las Olas" downtown area, and you'll save on the valet parking fees at the hotel.

If you are coming here for a nice relaxing vacation and want to get away from all of the fuss of the cruise ship scene or the parties of South Beach, it can't be beat. It has a real, elegant, old-Floridian vibe that you just won't find in some of the larger corporate chain hotels (I'm looking at you, Westin, W, etc).

Great hotel and amazing staff!! Actually ended up getting married on the beach on 12-13-14 and it was just how we wanted it to be! At first they originally set us up right in front of hotel by everyone with families and after we requested a different spot they moved us down the beach further which was more private for what we wanted! The only other downside during our wedding day was the cake. DO NOT order a cake if you want a nice simple elegant wedding cake and instead go through a bakery that does wedding cakes. The cake came out looking like a birthday cake you buy at grocery store and more expensive. Didn't even bother with it and ending up sending it back.

Other than that though, everything has been amazing! The staff makes everything pleasant, food is great, beach is relaxing and just overall feel of the place is great. The one downside is the construction, however it hasn't affected us that much and it's just a small inconvenience and will make it better for next time we come back!

Here on a business meeting and we have found that the cellphone service is very spotty, specifically in the  new meeting room. Drains the battery and is difficult to make calls or send out/receive texts. The beach is amazing. Event food is as imagined. Employees are very diverse and friendly.

We stayed here one night prior to two nights at the Ritz for a wedding.

The beach was BEAUTIFUL and so was the room.  Super friendly service and charming decor.  Our daughter had her first taste of the florida crystal clear water and gentle waves and it was magical.  They set us up with umbrellas and lounge chairs and the beach was private and not crowded at all.  Best part of the stay.

HOWEVER.  There was construction on the second day.  Started at brunch (on site restaurant) where it was just constant noise.  We were able to escape a bit when we went to the beach but forget about the afternoon nap.  That was a bummer and they should really give people a heads up.  We had actually canceled our reservation at the hard rock because they were having construction that weekend.  

Still, I would stay there again for the beach alone (I would call and ask about any construction though!).

I wish I could give 0 stars. One of the worst experiences I have ever had. After a long day all I wanted to do was enjoy some drinks with friends. While having drinks on the patio we experienced one of the rudest  waitress. She was confused with what wines were available. She would just repeat 2 names (which I was not familiar with) over and over. The wine selection is already limited but to have 3 wines that I had selected all to be unavailable is crazy. My friend ordered a glass of Rose which took 45 minutes to arrive. We were then given 3 bills which were all incorrect (items that we had not ordered were included or someone else's bill entirely).  I was then overcharged on my final bill. The manager came out only to question us and not to resolve any of the issues.

Friends booked wedding at pelican 6 wks ago only to have mgr call and say they couldn't get married there because they didn't go through the banquet dept.  Of course the banquet dept  wanted it to jack up the prices.  The wedding was for 10 people not 500.  They waited until 4 days before to drop this bomb.   Not good!   Mgr said it wasn't his fault - IT IS his fault he is the mgr!!!

After searching hi and low, I realized that the Grand Pelican is really THE ONLY hotel on all of Ft. Lauderdale beach that is actually on the sand.  All of the hotels in Ft. Lauderdale advertise that they are "on the beach".  Reality is... the only one that can make that claim is the Pelican Grand.  I've been to other hotels that are beautiful in Ft. Lauderdale beach but none offer the ability to go from your lobby to sand in just a few steps.  

The grounds of this hotel are pristine and kept immaculately.  The rooms have a very colonial feel to them with a very clean, white type of styling.  The lobby is beautiful and offers a gorgeous view of the Beach from the second you enter the front doors.  I had special requests from concierge and they met every one of them perfectly and with pleasure.  The brunch on Sunday's is to die for especially with the outside seating that is beach/ocean front... nothing like it on all of Ft. Lauderdale beach... I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to stay... "On the Beach".

I'm not much for detailed reviews but I thought this place deserved one.

Pro's
Service - the people here go above and beyond to be helpful. Everyone we encountered was friendly, kind and non-pretentious.
Location - Hard to beat being right on the beach. Beach was nice and I'm glad it wasnt in the heart of Ft. Lauderdale.
Room - While some things could use updating, I find the room clean and comfortable and spacious compared to many hotels.

Con's

Construction - this was my only complaint. We were informed construction was occurring on the 11th floor. We were on the 2nd floor room. However, construction is being performed in many parts of the hotel. Each day we were awaken at 8 AM with hammer drilling, etc. This made it difficult to sleep in or even nap/relax during the day.

That being said the Hotel did adjust their rates with the construction in mind, and they offered to move our room if one was better. Honestly though, you can hear it throughout the building.

So if sleeping in and noise don't bother you, book now and enjoy reduced rates. if that's what you want/need in a trip I would wait till after the spring when it's completed.

Don't read this review as a negative or a knock, loved the place, just wanted to offer some further insight on the construction. Oh, and bring money for tips. The people here work hard and you will want to take care of them.

Having a business meeting here and staying a few nights.  This is my second visit at this hotel.  Would recommend staying here the rooms are nice, ocean views and roomy.

I didn't stay at the hotel, I went there for brunch. And it was a really great one. I think the view alone pushed the experience up a few notches for us. There was a nice range of options for the brunch offerings: waffle station, omelette station, seafood station (amazing), salads, sweets, fruits and bottomless mimosas. It was a party of about 12 girls and service was very good. Parking is always an issue on that side as the street ones full up easily. The hotel offers valet parking specials for persons just coming in for brunch but for a 2 hour period. We stayed over the 2 hours because we were having so much fun so then had to deal with the $14 valet. If you are going as groups I suggest carpooling.

I have added this place to my brunch venues. Will be returning for sure!

Not sure why people would stay here, other than it being on the beach, there are SOME good traits:

*high ceilings
*separate rooms, living, bedroom, bathroom area
*two tvs, but the one in the room is a boob
*balcony, looks right out onto the beach
*good cs

BUT it's so old and DINGY.  $250/nt incl. taxes.

Have been staying here for the past 4 years. Great experience in the past but pretty bad this year. Major construction going on - drilling 8am - 8pm. They give you a letter at the check in. Had I known this would be the case, I would have chosen to stay elsewhere but you don't really have a choice when you learn about this during your check in. After I complained that my daughter could not even take a nap due to the noise, they were kind enough to move us to the lower level, however, we had to be careful stepping out on the terrace as the stuff was falling down (little rocks) from the floors above.

To add to the ruined experience, we had noisy neighbors upstairs who continued to be noisy after we called the front desk, runny toilet that continued to make noise after an engineer attempted to fix it and the cleaning staff forgetting to put toilet paper in the room. During our 6 days there the beach was cleaned only on the day of our departure. It was full of cigarettes, junk and weeds. There were also a lot of smokers on the beach, although the hotel says they are a non-smoking resort. Despite all the issues nothing was offered at the check-out to make us feel a little better. The complaints were simply ignored. Will be looking for another destination. Too bad, as it used to be a great place.

Great hotel! Booked through Hotel tonight (apple app). Hotel room, Host, bells and cabana beach/pool attendants are great. Resort fee was only $15/day but valet was too pricey $30/day. Love the beach/pool access. No extra charge for umbrella and lounge chair. Hotel attendant even upgraded our room since i only booked a king bed but needed 2beds instead. Great view of the water. Will def be back!

I stayed here the night before my cruise departure at Port Everglades. We were upgraded to a suite which was nice as it had a sweet balcony overlooking the ocean. The room was clean and spacious.

This hotel is located directly on the beach. I didn't have a chance to enjoy that but it was nice to look at in the morning as I ate breakfast in the hotel restaurant overlooking the ocean.

This is about a 15 minute drive to the Port.

Just spent 8 days at the Pelican Grand. Couldn't ask for better service at the pool/ never saw anyone work as hard as Kyle and David. Found the front desk staff a little cold and very unaccomodating with some simple requests. In particular Calvin - front desk manager. He is very cut and dry and basically dismissed my requests and made me and my travel companions feel like we didn't matter or count as a repeat guest staying for an extended period of time - seemed his goal was get them in and get them out. Poor attitude to be in guest services.
Otherwise the Pelican is a wonderful oceanfront property.

This is my second time staying here for a business conference and it is great to say the least. With two restaurants (a sit down nice restaurant and a bar) they have great food to offer.

The rooms are great, clean, and a view that is amazing, if you have a beach front view.

The only thing that is a pain is the internet is a little spotty and slow. And also service n the rooms are not that good. It's nothing the hotel can do, but still a reason why it's not 5 stars.

I seem to have a love/hate relationship with the Pelican. Over the last few years I have stayed here quite a few times, going back to before this place was bought by Noble Resorts, a luxury hotel chain designed to maximize profit by removing public areas and replacing them with food/beverage sales areas. On paper from a business sense, it adds up to lots of revenue but removing rocking chairs and adding restaurant tables does take away from the guest experience when they cannot get a chair to watch the sunset during crowded times.

My real reason for a 2 star review ... The construction!!! Since Noble took over the resort, the room prices are doubled. Gone are the days I could get an oceanfront room for $200-$300 per night in winter. I head down to FL for the same weeks each winter and I have watched the rates rise to $400-$600 per night! (The only hotel which was as expensive during my stay was the Ritz Carlton). Having said that, I do choose The Pelican over the Ritz even if it means paying for a room vs. Using my reward points at the Ritz because I like how beautiful the ocean is The Pelican being right on the water.

The construction is terrible ... Currently, they ate painting the deck for 4 days, which is my favorite part of the hotel. Relaxing on rocking chairs and listening to the ocean makes the $15 pins coladas and $8 beers worth every penny. The deck is closed ... Oddly they chose to close it off and paint it during peak season, the first week of March when New England is buried in snow. Why not wait a few more weeks vs. Taking away the number one reason most guests stay here?? They also closed this deck on another day due to a private party. Seriously? Guests are paying to be shut out of prime areas?

The top floor is being turned into a penthouse suite, ballroom and spa. Which means drilling and jackhammering from 8 am - 5 pm on weekdays. Forget about sleeping in on vacation as this can be heard on most floors. Scaffolding and cranes are in front of many rooms and ugly black netting is draped over the whole top of the building making it look more like The Tower of Terror than a resort.

They even have scaffolding and a black draped curtain over the steps which lead to the beach destroying the panoramic ocean views. I can't believe how many eyesores there are this time ... Oddly they are all in public guest areas. The restaurants/bars and gift shop where you buy things re immaculate.

On a good day with no renovation or construction, this is one of my top places to visit. And I travel all over the world in both budget hotels and the finest resorts. I hate to give a 2 star review to a place which has given me so much joy, but I feel like they really ruined my current stay. I've spent hundreds of dollars in drinks and meals here over the last 2 days because there is not much around here that isn't a $10-$15 cab ride. But no advanced notice of construction anywhere except when you get here and see the signs is deplorable when a resort charges these prices. Had I know the deck would be closed for painting and private events, I would have passed this time around. Could HV dealt with the noise and unsightly construction if not for the deck closures.

I have loved my experiences here over the last 8 years or so. (Except one other time when they closed the patio for painting in Feb.) But I have to reevaluate if I want to keep rolling the dice to pay big bucks to stay at a place which seems to be an ongoing noisy and unsightly construction site at any given moment.

Sorry to do this, old friend but I am upset about this stay. I feel like I'm trying hard to make this a relaxing stay which should not be the case at a $300-$500/night resort.

Spent three nights here in March; a Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evening.

PROS:
- The common areas are beautiful, and feel like a nice Fort Lauderdale hotel should.
- The onsite restaurant (Ocean2000) has a great menu, and seating on the deck overlooking the beach.
- Speaking of the beach, it is relatively narrow, but nice.
- Nothing beats sitting on your own balcony listening to the waves only a few feet away.
- Staff was helpful, speedy, and courtious.

CONS:
- Rooms were nice, but 'faded'.  The bathrooms could be updated.
- Lots of construction going on; definitely detracted from the experience  The good news for everyone else is that it's supposed to be done soon.

Bottom line, a beautiful hotel right on the beach with a relaxed out-of-the-way feel.
