Whether to award stars based on comparing the RCFL to other properties in Fort Lauderdale, or to peers everywhere, or to other Ritz-Carlton properties, is a difficult question. I'll do a little of all of them. The RCFL is beautiful and well situated to great dining and beach activities. The level of service is very high, although there is a fee for almost every added service (RC mantra: We'll Do Anything You Ask, But There's a Fee For That) and you'll drop a lot on tips. (I normally show up at a Ritz with $40 in small bills for tips.) Rooms are spacious with beautiful baths. Negatives in the rooms include fee-based Internet service (at this price point, it ought to be included); very light colored carpets and upholstery which, while airy and bright, show faint stains in a lot of places; no iPod docking station in the alarm clock/light control unit (it has an 1/8" jack input for iPod, but no charging dock). Pool deck is elevated providing nice separation from tacky county road A1A along the beach. We saw no kids; property definitely seems much more adult oriented than, say, the Marriott Harbor Beach. Wine bar has high quality choices, bar staff was nice and the restaurant is comfortable with good views. Huge, clean, well-equipped on-site gym. I'd return, prepared to spend even more without guilt, or not return if that was a concern. The property was oddly quiet, which appears to reflect the general crash in south Florida business ... at times it was too quiet ... on a Sunday night the bar, lounges and restaurant were virtually deserted.

The best of the best as anyone would  expect from the Ritz Carlton. Look for deals on their website. Impeccable service right on the beach.

If you're blue and you don't know where to go to
Why don't you go where fashion sits,
Puttin' on the ritz.

I have no complaints here. We came here, randomly, for an unexpected and much needed lunch. Considering that we were with ppl who ONLY dine at places such as the Ritz, we were sort of forced. We had a total of 6 very young children with us, so you can see, how I might have found the Ritz inappropriate for this occasion. The view of the ocean/beach is beautiful, and the service is stellar. The waiter brought toys, packaged toys, like a new slinky, cars, a winnie the pooh doll, a toy fishing poll. That floored me. This is very smart on behalf of the service and the management to keep kids quiet.
The bloody Mary's were delish - although - I had to ask the bartender to put olives in it. Really? Who doesn't put olives in Bm's?
Kid's entrees started at $4. Mac and cheese. $6 for 3 chix fingers, $2 for French fries.
I opted for the beet and goat cheese salad. Very creative, loved the arugala and goat cheese were deep fried nuggets. Yum.
My hubbie had the salmon and risotto. Salmon was perfect, risotto, was way to creamy and buttery. All in all - 6 people, 6 kids - $900.00. A pit pricey for a random Saturday lunch.

Wonderful hotel!  What you would expect from a Ritz Carlton.  Perfect location right across the street from the beach and the night life.  Has a nice patio outside where you can sit and watch the ocean, cars and people go by.  Great drinks and food for you to enjoy while relaxing on the lounge style couches and chairs.  Staff is friendly as to be expected and very helpful.  A nice place to stop by even just for a drink!

Had a lovely afternoon and night at the Ritz.  We went for a wedding which was on the pool deck overlooking the ocean.  Lovely setting and the first evening in two weeks it didn't rain until 30 minutes AFTER the ceremony.  Terrific room and bath with all the creature comforts to be expected in a top-class Hotel.   It still amazes me that a $49 room at a comfort inn has free breakfast, coffee and internet, yet for $200+ a nite it's all ala carte.  Plus $32 to park my car for the evening.   Lunch at the pool bar was very nice.  We had a turkey club sandwich and fruit plate.  Staff was eager to please and made minor changes we requested.  Highly recommend the location, beach, and all.

The Ritz and walking-distance establishments were perfect for a weekend getaway.  The hotel felt crisp yet comfortable.  The room commanded a nice view of the pool and beach beyond.  I was disappointed with the size of the pool (not much bigger than many that adorn backyards in Florida) but the bar area was sufficient.  My favorite aspect of the hotel was its proximity to the beach (20 ft away across a small street).  The water is clear and you can see tons of fish swimming around in the calm waters (scant waves).  As far as Ritz hotels go; I'd have to say that the charm and amenities are mid-range... the service however was SUPERB!  The restaurant also surpassed my expectations (great value, great food).  I would enjoy going back here for another getaway weekend.

I used the spa service for a 50 minute massage.  This was the best massage I have ever had.  Every minute from the check in process to the waiting room was top notch.  Everyone was so kind and professional.  I was amazed at the consistent customer service from the spa employees.  Great job! I will be back!

I generally had a good experience when I stayed for a wedding over a long weekend. However, there were a couple things that the Ritz could do better IMO.

First, the food is not good. The food at the pool is especially uninspired and overpriced--I know it's the Ritz and I'm fine paying $18 for a salad there but it should be a kick-ass salad, not a pile of greens with some vinegar and a chicken breast on top. Meanwhile, the service at the downstairs restaurant/cafe was horrible for brunch -- slow and unattentive. The bar was okay - nice ambience but mediocre service.

So why four stars? The room was lovely, the halls and public spaces were very attractive, and they were awesome upon check out. They gave us a locker in the spa and access to all of the facilities (e.g., gym, pool, showers) during the 5 hours between check out and when we had to go to the airport. Lastly, they made the bride very happy so I have to give credit for that!

Service in the hotel is bad! Specially if you go to the restaurant (1 Floor) and the  7 floor (the pool bar) The bartenders over there have a horrible attitude . Maybe they are co-owners and nobody knows!...  there's something wrong with these guys!
Drinks, water or juice?  Not a big difference! :(

I really enjoyed my recent visit to this property, however had a few things that bothered me- this being the Ritz-Carlton and all. For starters, the gentleman at the front desk (a thin-haired and balding agent) used verbiage I have never heard at a RC ('yeah ' vs- 'yes' as well as several other words that one just doesn't hear at a RC). I guess we have been spoiled by the polished staff of the NYC and Boston properties...

As for the pool area- there were tons of kids and limited space away from them (I guess it is to be expected at a Marriott, but  RC??? Really?!?); this place is NOTHING liek the RC SoBe! As for the food- it  was decent but uninspired ( I ordered the Cuban Sandwhich) and a bit pricey for what it was.

On the PLUS side the pool staff was fantastic as was the bar staff. While I would visit this property again, there are other alternatives with equal or greater service I would love to check out (the W Ft Lauderdale will more than likely be my next destination when in FLL). A gentleman from the sales team (Mike) was beyond informative as he was quick  fill in for the oh-too-busy concierge, listing several local points of interest.

I guess I would recommend this property, but would be curious to see what the other luxury hotels in the immediate area have to offer. This is not the RC many expect it to be (perhaps a bit to lax...).

The Ritz-Carlton is conveniently located a street away from the beach. As I drove up to the property, there were about five bell people waiting to unload my luggage and park my car in their garage. This hotel may only have valet service, I did not ask. Upon arriving via a drive from the Miami area, Mary, a PR representative, met up with my brother and I to welcome us.

As part of our Epic week, Mary took us on a tour of the restaurants, the 11 room spa, the incredible wine cellar and finally the pool area. This is where Mary introduced us to Glenda, the pool manager. The pool overlooks the ocean and as Glenda pointed out, the cabana level is separated by a section just below the main pool and is private only to cabana guests. Once we reached the cabana, Martin the cabana captain, was there to take our order. We ordered a shrimp quesadilla, a Cuban sandwich, a mojito and a coke. The Cuban sandwich was cooked enough to melt the cheese to an acceptable level, the fries were warm and the quesadilla, I'm told, was hot and the shrimp were fully cooked. Martin made sure to check in on us many times during the day, but not too much.

After the cabana experience, we headed up to the room. This was an ocean view room that included two queen sized beds, a mini wine and liquor bar in a glass tray setting, a two chair sitting area with two foot rests, a glass desk and a balcony with two chairs and a round wooden table. The room is almost completely controlled with the centralized digital touch screen system, that can turn on and off lights, air conditioning and all normal guest requests like call the front desk.  The bathroom had a dual sink with a small LCD TV in the middle, a large tub, a full stand-up shower with a shower head that's removable that can easily fit a 6ft tall person with room to spare and a separate commode with door.  The giant crown molding plus wood floor seating area adds a nice touch. Many thanks to Mary for the complimentary stay with no request to be positively reviewed here. The Ritz-Carlton Fort Lauderdale was not on Yelp, so I added it.

I don't think you can call yourself a Ritz-Carlton if you don't serve afternoon tea.  Why Why Why??  This is a resort area, so why don't you serve afternoon tea?  It would be so lovely.  But perhaps I can understand- the clientele around here is more of a getting drunk-all-night-and-all-day kinda people, and then there are some who'd wear bikini and shorts to a "fancy" brunch.  Don't you have dress codes?

All the services were great and attentive, except for the maid service.  Our room wasn't clean after we'd been away all day and the sign had been on.  We were out of clean towels when we got back, which we then had to call down for the maid to bring us new ones.

As mentioned earlier, we had the hotel's regular brunch and Italian brunch too.  It was nothing amazing, borderline boring.  For the price, the whole brunch experience felt like one you'd have in a Marriot, not a Ritz.  For example, on the Italian brunch side, you can have a few choices of pre-baked pizza.  Cheese, pepperoni, or ham and PINEAPPLE.  A few pre-made items (more like dinner items) such as deli meats, marinated veggies, roasted vegetables, and pasta.   On the regular brunch side, you have your usual breakfast buffet items, such as omelette station, toasts, sausages, potatoes, muffins, pre-made waffles, etc.  Nothing too extraordinary, or "ritzy".

When nearing the end of brunch hour, there were lots of desserts left at the dessert station, so we helped ourself to a little bit of everything.  I don't know if I should be happy or not that they don't serve afternoon tea, because the desserts taste horrible.  Only one out of the 6 or so desserts we tasted was good, and one (the creme brulee) was not palatable at all.

Overall, 4 stars for room+service.  3.5 stars for food.

First time staying at a Ritz this past weekend.  I was there for a wedding in which all wedding activities were held at the hotel:  welcome dinner friday night, wedding saturday night, and sunday brunch.

Service:  I think the hotel has high and low points.  I echo the other reviewers that the pool and bar staff are fantastic!  They work hard and it shows.  I really appreciated their efforts.  Otherwise, nobody really stood out to me except for one of the girls at the front desk (forgive me for not remembering any names).

Room:  Again, I have to echo other reviewers that the rooms are ok, but the white carpets show every stain!  The carpet was actually still wet from whatever treatment the staff used to clean before we arrived.  If you don't have a pool/ocean view then really you have no view.  We looked at a parking lot and some buildings.  The waterway might have been in that view, but I can't be sure.  The bathrooms were great - spacious, his/her sinks, bathtub and rain shower, tv... But the main room didn't have extra amenities I would expect for a luxury hotel.  It just felt barren.

Food:  The pool menu is actually pretty good, but portions are small (with the exception of the pizza).  Pizza, fruit plate, and chicken salad sandwich are the standouts.  Considering you are eating poolside at the Ritz, I thought the prices were what I expected.  The food at the wedding was ok.  I am pretty sure it was the inhouse Ritz catering.  The passed app's were too heavy.  I really liked the salad with the braised pear and the sea bass was cooked perfectly.  Brunch was very standard and boring.  I honestly think you could get that brunch at any hotel.  Don't bother with that.

Location:  Ideal.  Close to the airport, right on the beach and in the middle of everything.  The walkway along the beach is right across the street and is wonderful for early morning running/walking/biking.

I enjoyed my stay, the pool was relaxing and lovely, but I think for the price, I would want a little more in order to return.

Great spa staff, gorgeous suites, the only thing to keep me from giving 5 stars is the bar hours and food.  The bar downstairs does not open until 3 pm and the pool bar closed due to rain.

Our first stay at a Ritz-Carlton and it won't be our last.  (Our favorite place to stay is almost any Marriott).  Our large beautifully decorated room had a nice balcony which overlooked the pool and ocean.  Even though the weather wasn't great, we enjoyed having our martinis and cheese out there in the early evening.  Spent a few hours enjoying the pool with excellent service from the pool staff.  Though we felt the valet parking was a bit steep ($32 plus tax a night), the valet staff was great.  From the time we arrived, we felt very welcomed and each time we took the car out, the staff could not have been nicer or more friendly.  A nice touch was the bottled water they put in your car each time you went out.  One thing surprised us, they had no sauna or steam room in their spa.  Also, though the bathroom was one of the nicest we have ever had, the shower water leaked over the tub because of the short glass enclosure

All things considered, a very enjoyable stay..

Terrible service. I've been to many nice hotels and Ritz-Carltons and this one has among the worst service I have encountered. Part of the problem is that it was New Year's Eve, so I can imagine it isn't easy taking care of people. The lobby was pure mayhem with many unhappy people. Lots of service problems -- especially rooms that weren't available.

The staff is fantastic ... A team of true professionals.  The valets remembered us by name. Our room seemed to be a bit worn, which for an Ritz Carlton, is very surprising .  The biggest disappointment was the food. Everything from room service to quick service to sit down to pool bar was consistently awful (our stay was 6 days).  If you stay here, be sure to get a list of restaurants from the staff ... You'll need it!

The rooms here are nice and spacious with a flat screen TV, a little business desk with phone, and an awesome patio overlooking the beautiful pool and ocean.

The food here is pretty good. The hamburgers are really good. The sausage appetizer is awesome.

This place should get five stars, except that the Jacuzzis should be nicer and newer, and also it doesn't have a salon.  The location however is killer.  It is right across the street from the beach. It also has its own sky bridge that allows for easy access to the beach on the pool level of the hotel. It is also in the heart of the strip so that you are right in the middle of everything.

Have stayed at a few Ritz' throughout the country, and I have to say this place is more of an old school status symbol than a place that lives up to its reputuation. This stay was with my a friend on her biz trip. Prices are high, but everything in the rooms are old and you can tell. This particular Ritz did have a phenomenal view, if you were lucky enough to get one of the waterfront rooms. If you get a bay view room, its still beautiful but you have the loud ass fans that are located in the back of the building (in the way of the bay view) and its really unpleasent to be outside/enjoy that view. Location isn't bad. Was able to walk to some of the best restaurants in FL from here and the beach is right across the street. The pool is pretty beautiful with a great back drop of the ocean. They pass out stuff by the pool like ice cream clean your sunglasses. Overall and once again, Ritz is not worth it for those prices.

Much nicer place than it appears to be on the website.

We stayed in a 2 br 3 bath suite with a small kitchen and dining room. It was very nice with a great view.

Staff was helpful and pleasant.

What can I say about a place that has thought to include a dog food menu on the room service menu? I nearly accidentally ordered off of it for my son....

Reserving a star given that I haven't actually stayed here yet, but had a pair of separate and grand takes at the patio bar this week, and fell in love a bit with the Ritz-Carlton take on Fort Lauderdale. Ultimately, I dropped in with the hope if not expectation that each patron that darkens the door here might well turn out to be a VIP, and I'd wager that we were treated like that more often than not. Not always, but close.

At any rate, after a cigar, a few beers, perhaps the best tempranillo I've encountered in awhile and a pair of outstanding desserts, I came away plenty amped at how the Ritz operates. I recommend that tempranillo and perhaps the raspberry sorbet they trotted out on our first stop in, but don't overlook the desserts beignets either. The beer selection's pretty pedestrian, but hopefully eventually word will get through to beachfront Lauderdale that it's okay to order something more interesting than the first Heineken or Sam Adams you're offered. We'll still spend the money, just on those brews we crave.

The bartender service was so spot on I'd return in a flash. Here's hoping for another chance to catch catch a rising star when you time it right. Get home safe y'all

This review's based on the service at the pool.

We really enjoyed the service from Alberto Silva. I've been to many hotels in South Florida, and the pool attendant service from Alberto Silva was executed flawlessly.

During a very busy stretch (around the peak hours of 1pm on a Saturday), Alberto was able to take care of us with umbrellas, towels, etc. and check on us every now and then, even though he was helping others!

I really recommend getting to meet Alberto, very friendly guy, and quality service!

If you have ever stayed at a real Ritz Carlton, you will know that this property should be rebranded as a Marriott.  We've been loyal to their brand for over 2 decades and this property is not to their standards of service, food, or culture.  We booked this at the last minute and regret it deeply.

Lesson learned for us: plan ahead a bit better and seek the experience you desire.

This is one of my favorite hotels in Fort Lauderdale.  I love the Ritz-Carlton brand in general, but I have to say I have had exceptional experiences here on several occasions.  From the moment the valet opens your car door, to the second you take a seat at the gorgeous pool overlooking the ocean, this Ritz is amazing.  I live in the area and often come here for dinner at Via Luna or for drinks at the pool bar.  The staff and service are unparalleled.  The concierge is there for you and gladly takes my smart phone to charge while I am getting a massage at the spa.  There is always a polite and gracious face to make sure your every need is met - even if you are not staying at the hotel overnight.  I would highly recommend anyone who wants one of Fort Lauderdale's best beachfront experiences to come to this Ritz-Carlton.  Friendly, not stuffy, and always a relaxing experience.

This was our first stay at the Ritz-Carlton Fort Lauderdale and we were definitely NOT disappointed!

Our 12th floor room had a lovely ocean and pool view, and it was nicely appointed.  The bathroom was elegant and the decor had an island feel with lovely floors and furnishings, a flat screen tv (which we never used lol) and a nice desk and chaise.

The pool is beautiful, and the drinks are strong .  The attendants poolside are outstanding, friendly and prompt.  The spa is wonderful, and I recommend the Swedish Massage.  The valet parking is at a hefty price, and the wi-fi is a daily charge, which I feel should be inclusive and not at almost $15/day.  AMEX offers a  few nice perks with Marriott and its sister-hotels, so if you can, take advantage of that.

Room service is prompt and friendly, and the hotel staff is always available to meet your requests.

We will definitely be returning....a week just wasn't enough here.

This place is awesome. Parked up right on the beach, oceanfront and were talking every single window is oceanfront it seems (no guarentee on every room). Valet is quick and friendly, and the food was tasty. Staff great. Very pleasant work function at this venue, and would come again for sure. The only reason they are not 5 is those are usually reserved for places like Vegas, Miami..ect. Im Biased.

Though I live in Lauderdale I've ended up having to stay here on several occasions in order to chair seminars, conduct business meetings or the like. I remember when it was first built; it was a St. Regis Hotel but only for a couple of months. Rumor was that it didn't meet the five star hotel standards of a St. Regis, which I would have to agree with but it certainly does meet a solid four stars along with the high standards of a Ritz Carlton.

The rooms are spacious with gorgeous views but as a tip, be sure to request an ocean view when booking your reservation.

The service is superb, even on the beach and also at the cabanas. The interior, all marble in the lobby areas, and the assistance with business transactions such as fax, computer, copying & etc. totally top notch.

I have never had a bad experience at a Ritz Carlton and this stay did not disappoint.  I think the excellent service is key to my enjoyment.  This particular stay was a very romantic date my husband wanted to surprise me with. We already live in Fort Lauderdale so we were looking for pampering and relaxation.  This meant room service and an 80-minute couples massage.

Room Service
Room service was an example of service.  Starting from the person who took the order. She sounded genuinely happy to take the order.  Food was delivered promptly and in perfect order.  And of course the food was great.

It was my first visit to this spa and I was not given a tour but I did not notice any amenities however the co-ed relaxation room (since we were getting a couples massage) was very large and comfortable. The massage was professional and very relaxing so spot on.

Note on Service
I cannot over emphasize the excellent service from every person we came in contact with.  And they were certain to use our name and to use it correctly every time.

Great Hotel and staff goes out of their way to please you. The problem I saw was the swimming pool on weekends. There is noone checking to see if you are a guest or not so anyone can go to the pool. You have to put your towel on the chair at 7AM to save it for the day or you might not get a chair. The pool bar was great! Bloody Marys, great guacamole, and chicken salad was so good!  Also the hotel lobby bar was awesome with the most amazing art picture with 3 horses....look for it! I told the bartender I wanted dark chocolate they went out of their way and brought me an entire jar!

We had a great stay at this Ritz Carlton in Fort Lauderdale.

Check In:   We arrived at a very busy time and they had plenty of valet staff to keep things moving smoothly and to greet us.   We had reserved and ocean view room and were given a suite on the 7th floor.  Beautiful room, two bathrooms, bar area, dining table, living room, then separate bedroom with large bathroom.  The bellman that took us to our room was great.

We were celebrating our 20th anniversary on this trip and once we unpacked in our room, went to the pool and came back, a large chocolate dessert and bottle of Chardonnay were waiting for us.  Very nice touch.

Pool:   First thing we did was to head to the pool which was right outside our sliding door.   The bartender was friendly and we ordered two cocktails and sat in the chairs overlooking the ocean.  The pool staff was excellent during our stay.

Dinner:  Oh how I wish we could remember our server's name.  He was EXCELLENT.   Very tall guy?   We sat outside, it was so nice.    At dessert he brought us a very special dessert and two glasses of champagne.  The food was absolutely delicious and the service was the best.

Breakfast:  Breakfast was included in our stay and we had oatmeal and berries from the buffet.  They were fine, we didn't order anything else so not sure about the quality of the rest of the breakfast items.  What we had worked for us.

Stay:  We didn't experience any noise, we had a very quiet room.

Checkout:  Couldn't be easier.   Our flight wasn't until late in the day and we checked out at noon.   We had our bags stored, sat at by the pool til it was time to go, used the shower facilities at the pool and caught our flight.  Easy!

Management - rest assured, you have a great staff at this location.

Across the street from the beach.  Rooms facing the ocean had lovely balconies.  Restaurants were good.  Not too far from the airport.  Customer service was above average.

What is not to love about personalized, professional, friendly service?

I don't trust my vacation days to just any hotel. I have my preferences for which high end hotel I choose. This is really dependent on location.

My suite boasted a romatic view of the water, a great outdoor patio to have meals and wine/cheese to enjoy said view, excellent square footage, well appointed furnishings and amenities. The wines in the room were average, but that didn't stop me from opening a California offering.

My highlights here:

The Italian restaurant downstairs with excellent service and wonderful ocean view

The Cabanas? Get one! For a mere $300 you can have a sexy time in your bikini with refreshments and a butler specifically focused on cabana guests for the day. This also provides 2 free cocktails for everyone in your party.

The Pool Area? You won't be treated like steerage here. Someone will greet you at the sun deck, secure you a lounger, give you towels, and you can have food and beverages delivered right to you while you soak in the rays.

Club Level: You can go to the lounge for food pretty much all day long. I really hate people who are greedy and park their families there for hours and hours. This level also includes pressing of two garments per day, DVD's that you can watch in your room, board games, and all kinds of reading materials (newspaper and magazines). If you are say, my friend and you are not in a club level room, you can still enjoy the club lounge with your club level guest friends for a daily fee.

My favorite staff members were:

Valet: always had my vehicle ready when I wanted it, carried up baggage, and never hesitated to greet me by name

Housekeeping: Extra towels and pillows as I usually request were not a problem. Turndown service is 2 chocolates. Ummm, yeah. I like more than 2 and that wasn't a problem.

Room Service: I order a lot of room service. Usually for breakfast and again for late night dining after midnight. Every staff member who brought my meals were professional, attentive, and friendly.

I had a wonderfully relaxing stay here before we took off for Turks and Caicos.

Thank you Ritz Carlton for another first class stay!

Pricing was reasonable for what you get.

Best place I have stayed at. Stayed on the 12th floor. Large rooms. Great staff, very clean hotel..

great beach service that includes chairs, towels & cold water right at the beach.

Via Luna had great food.

Pool on the 7th floor is not infinite pool, but included towel & chair services, plus plenty of staff. Pool was child safe & always clean. There are cabanas you can rent with a butler for $300/day. The pool has a gear view of the beach as well.

Overall great experience would highly recommend it..
If you want to have a relaxing vacation.

We stay at the Ritz each time we visit Ft Lauderdale.  We recently returned from a great trip and, as usual, the service was outstanding.  Joe DiLeo and his wife love the Ritz!

The ocean view rooms are especially nice....not extra big but very nice just the same.

Massage - Ask for Phu
The absolute best massage I've ever had and I've had many. I like a really deep but relaxing massage and he definitely delivered. I felt so loose afterwards and he used techniques that I hadn't experience before. Not just your average rub back and forth/sometimes use the arm or elbow for more pressure. Cannot say enough amazing things about him.

Hello sir, my name is Leanda Robinson.  I recently stayed at the Ritz Carlton in Fort Lauderdale this past weekend.  I am a business owner and I travel extensively and my experience this weekend was horrid.  Upon my arrival Frantz was amazing so I was expecting a great stay.  Due to no error in the hotel, my spa appointment was rescheduled as my date was late, stuck in traffic.  I was told I still would be charged but could come on another day.  I had dinner reservations at Via Luna and the reservation was at 9.  My boyfriend and I arrived about 8:55pm.  We sat down and we were not greeted for at least 10 minutes by anyone.  Then a bus boy walked by and asked had we been helped, we replied no and instantaneously our server Martin appeared.  We ordered an appetizer and a cocktail.  When Martin brought the cocktails my date informed Martin and showed him a large quantity of crumbs on the floor under the table that was beside us.  Martin said he would get that right away. (Never happened). We had not received our food by 9:55 so we proceeded to go up to our room.  The bus guy saw us leaving and rushed over to us and we explained why we were leaving.  He motioned to Martin and Martin asked what was the problem.  We explained we were hungry and tired of waiting.  He apologized and said he would take care of the check and have the food sent up to our room.

The food arrived by Alejandro
(he was amazing) and the food was cold.  My boyfriend was starving and ate, but I did not.  The walls in our room were paper thin as we could hear the entire conversation from the couple next door.  That evening I wanted to take a bath and when I went to draw the water I saw what I thought to be a bug, turned out to be some sort of rust spot on the marble.
(Photo attached).  The next morning we ordered room service and the toast was burned and the apple juice was left off and brought up later.  Last but certainly not least we ordered a movie and the movie stalled over 30 times and this was very irritating.  I called and spoke to the manager on duty and she apologized and informed me she would pass along this info to corporate to see if they could offer compensation for my bad experience.  Needless to say today is Wednesday and there has been no correspondence to me via phone or email.

I am not looking for anything free, as a business professional that travels quite frequently this was one of the worst experiences I have had to date.  My boyfriend commented he was not impressed with this Ritz after I bragged how great the Ritz was.

The location of this hotel is what I paid for. Right in the heart of the Fort Lauderdale action. There are many decent restaurants and bars in walking distance. The beautiful beach is steps from the hotel's front door.

The hotel itself was average. The rooms are standard. It was the same quality as a Hilton, Marriott, Doubletree, etc. Doesn't even compare to the Intercontinental properties I've stayed in.

Our alarm clock was set by a previous guest for 4:00am on the first morning of our stay. Not the greatest experience. The television in the room was an older plasma. A lamp in the room was not able to stand straight...it had a slight lean to it. The beach access walkway from the pool area was out of service because the elevator was broken.

I'm being picky, but I'm allowed to be when I stay at the Ritz, right?

All in all, I would not choose to stay here again. There are plenty of other options for lower costs.

This is a review from the perspective of a NON GUEST.

Had a delicious meal at the beautiful restaurant overlooking the beach.  The bar is gorgeous and the rest of the hotel, decor wise, is amazing.

Had the blackened Mahi Mahi. For $13 bucks you really can't do any better on the strip.  There are so many mediocre restaurants on the fort lauderdale strip which is typical of a touristy area.

Secured a chair and umbrella @ the Ritz Carlton beach with the bright blue colors.  $30 bucks for 1 chair & an umbrella.  As a non-guest, I was grateful for their hospitality.

In fact, my entire experience today with Ritz Carlton personnel was above & beyond amazing.

Here's the deal:  If you wanted to be treated like you should be treated don't wear the typical touristy uniform.  Be classy, be witty, look the part, act the part, don't be an idiot.

The beach was absolutely beautiful today around 3pm until the thunderstorm arrived.  At that time there was the intercom to the beach, a repetitive annoying voice:  "there is an electrical storm approaching, please exit the beach and seek shelter".  I'm thinking..... "are you kidding me????"  Never have I encountered that before.  I've "suffered" through downpours on the florida beaches before but never has anyone hit the eject button and made everyone get off the beach!!!  Usually the storm passes and the sunshine reappears without any disturbance.

Well......after only an hour of suntanning time I had to leave.....  :-(  On top of that, there is no such thing as serving alcoholic drinks on the fort lauderdale beach.   So you cannot get service for food or drink to the beach.  They are trying to change that law.   It's ridiculous.  If you are a real resort, you take care of your guests.  But all these hotels on the strip are totally strapped down to this ridiculous law.

In summary.... the service was EXCELLENT!!!  I would utilize their restaurant/bar/spa etc..... not sure about staying @ the Ritz Carlton/Fort Lauderdale..... there needs to be a change on how service is done on their beach.

My husband and I decided to do a quick getaway for our anniversary. Work schedules precluded anything long term. The Ritz was able to accommodate our late reservation for club level with no problems. Upon check in we were greeted by India, Juan, and Raul as we valeted the car. Warm and welcoming, they took care of everything.
The front desk clerk (can't recall his name) was SO warm and friendly. Wished us a happy anniversary and pointed out all the important details for our visit.

We went to the club lounge where we were greeted and attended to by Sammi. Let me just say, she makes the stay AMAZING. Knowledgeable, personable, and so friendly. Not to mention, she is one heck of a bartender!

I am a returning Ritz guest. We have enjoyed quite a few of their properties.....the Ritz hires and trains their staff so well and it is reflected in how they treat their guests. The service is beyond exemplary!

I had a problem with the Front Office Manager:

I called the day before to confirm my early checking, there check in is 4 PM.

I requested a corner room North East on a High Floor and its a big deal:   There is a disco on the South East side, the street is very busy, the balcony is huge only on the corner room ONLY.

I had to wait for the room (1208) for almost 3 hrs by the pool, the room (1408) was available, Paula & Robert at the front desk were ready to give me the room.

Linda Mormando the front desk manager, would not give me that room, she claim is was not available anymore ( There was nobody in the room for the first 4 days of our stay ).  She was very nasty and very short!  She try to give me a lower floor with a small balcony, I been at the hotel before, she was not having a good day, she was not very nice with Paula and Robert either.  I didn't see her at the front desk during my stay.

I now understand why the hotel is almost empty, I try to speak to the general manager Mr Greg Cook but all I got is a voice mail.

This is a beautiful Hotel, great restaurant on the first floor.

I had to give 5 stars..  Being right across the beach, this location is ideal! The area is lively with plenty to do & see.
I loved the royal treatment.. Felt like the Queen of Africa! The customer service is seriously  impeccable!
Sunday brunch is excellent; wide variety, from freshly made omelettes to roast beef to flan. You'll definitely find something to WOW your taste buds.
Would definitely recommend to anyone who appreciates the finer things..

Didn't stay here because I have my spot in Fort Lauderdale for a good night's sleep. The Ritz is nice but the location next to the Beach Place bars, on A1A is a bit noisy for me. (loud music at night, lots of crowds passing by and cars). If you are looking to go out, you can walk to several decent (from a tourist standpoint) restaurants and bars.

However, my 4 stars are given to the restaurant on the upper decks near the pool. Although you will pay $8 for a beer and $15 for a WEAK mixed drink (hey ... it's The Ritz ... what do you expect?) I will say that if you are looking for a casual restaurant away from the crowds and with a touch of class, you can't go wrong with the roof deck here.

Most people would probably shy away because of the $8 valet parking charge. However, I can assure you that the food is among the best you will find in Fort Lauderdale for casual type of fare.

They make the BEST burger I've ever tasted. Fresh, thick and juicy. Sure, it's almost $20, but it tastes amazing and even the fries served with it are crisp and tasty. I've had the fish tacos which were awesome ... and one of my favorite dishes ever which they took off the menu, the black bean hummus. It was so good ... served with tomatos and cucumber and pita bread. I don't know why they took it off the menu!

There are several other lighter offerings such as Cevice and a grilled fish sandwich ... and you can substitute a side salad or fresh fruit for fries. They make okay desserts as well.

The real star of this roof deck bar/restaurant is the fact you are 7 stories up and can look out over the blue ocean and the yellow sand beach from high above the street noise. It shares a surface with the pool, however the bar in the middle separates the two areas. There are plenty of silicon wonders to oggle, if that is your thing ... but if you'd rather stare at the ocean, the view is amazing. Tables or bartop ... your choice.

Next time you are in Fort Lauderdale, go into the Ritz and push the 'pool' button in the elevator. And you will have one of the better casual meals you've eaten in Fort Lauderdale.

The rooms are very nice and the property close to the beach.  The people have also been very nice, addressing issues I raised quickly and with a smile.  There are some idiosyncrasies to be noted:

(1) you call for ice from room service (no charge), no ice machines on the floor
(2) read the reservation very carefully for hidden charges.  I used points aiming to have no charge only to find that there was a $50/night "upgrade charge" even though I did not ask for an upgrade.
(3) even though I am Executive Platinum with Marriott, I was told I needed to make a $300+/night upgrade to have access to the lounge for drinks or snacks, a first for me in my extensive travels and and nearly 140 Marriott nights a year
(4) the bath tub enclosure is poorly designed so if you shower, water runs out the top of the tub and all over the bathroom floor
(5) TV is the old style so there is no way to plug a laptop into it for watching content on the laptop.
(6) We had a list of small but annoying issues with the room but maintenance came to fix them quickly

I all, a nice place.  It is very posh compared to the typical business or family traveler stay at Residence Inn or Courtyard properties, but only mediocre compared to other resort hotels.  You may want to check out the Courtyard down the beach when considering this place.

It's a nice hotel in the heart of everything.  My only real complaint is that the walls are super thin and we heard everything going on around us....everything.  The view is spectacular from the balcony and the ocean front rooms were much larger than we'd expected.  All in all a great stay.

I had to write an update review on the Ritz as I was back again (from a year ago) to spend my birthday in Ft. Lauderdale. I am happy to report that my stay was just as wonderful. Here is what I experienced:

Lobby/Check In.

Smooth. We checked in around 11pm so there was no one. We had our car valet parked (one of the guys remembered us!!). Check in was really pleasant and we even got asked if we prefer a room with a King bed, or two double beds. We also got asked what type of newspaper we wanted and another mini-tour of the lobby.

Room Number 915 - Beach View

Our room was exactly the same layout as our last stay, but the only difference was that we were really close to the pool/restaurant level (which is on the 7th floor). Our first night there, we opened our balcony doors and were immediately hit with a strong food odour (cooking smell). Sometimes during the day, you can smell the cooking as well. This might not be a bother for some, but for my parents and I, we really didn't like that and had to keep the balcony doors closed. We wanted to enjoy the fresh, ocean air!

In other words, the higher up you are, the better the view/smell (none)/noise (none). (During the day, you could hear kids and screaming...not a biggie in our books because we were hardly in our room, but just something to keep in mind).

If we had our balcony door closed, we could hear minimal noise. No doors banging, loud flushing-toilet noise, creaks, etc...

I have to mention that the concierge at the Ritz was amazing! Thanks to Detlif for organizing an event for us at the Chart House. He had the restaurant print out a special menu for us, gave us VIP seating, and offered us a free dessert. The concierge certainly have their connections and when staying at the Ritz, it's not a bad idea to utilize these peeps. Case in point - We managed to get dinner reservations (only made the night before) to two very popular restaurants...on the weekends...on Thanksgiving Holiday. Enough said.

Will be back the next time! When my parents and I were eating breakfast at Via Luna, two of the waiters remembered us (from the year before!) It was so nice to see familiar faces The staff at this Ritz are very hospitable and nothing is ever a problem. Everyone has a smile on their face and it just makes you feel right at home. A BIG recommend to stay here!

The Ritz is the Ritz. Not for the budget conscious, but you get what you pay for.

Absolutely stunning location, right on Fort Lauderdale beach. Friendly valet and doormen there 24-7. Check in was fast and efficient and pointed out all the pertinent hotel details (pool, spa, fitness center, etc).

Room was beautiful with an equal view of the ocean and the intercoastal waterway from the balcony. Not sure if the fruit/water/alcohol spread on the desk was due to being platinum members or if that's standard fare, but it was well appreciated. Also love the chocolates on the pillows. It's the details.

Beds are huge and supremely comfortable as you would expect. Can't stand when you have a hotel room (where you're going to SLEEP) with lame pillows or linens. Bathroom also had a huge marble tub that was attached to the shower but there was a separate toilet stall and double sinks. I love this so multiple people can use the bathroom at once. Robes and slippers are awesome too but maybe I'm one of the only people who use them.

We ordered room service around 1:30 in the morning-came up in less than 10 minutes. Super nice on the phone and cupcakes were delicious and so pretty. We didn't use the pool but the hotel does allow you to use towels/chairs/umbrellas on the beach that FTL beach patrol normally charges you for. The sky bridge elevator was broken when we were there but normally you can go across A1A on the bridge and take the elevator down to the beach from the pool level. I believe you need your room key to access that elevator so that random beach guests can't get into the hotel as well.

One thing I did notice was that the wifi was a tad spotty at times when trying to stream video on our ipads. It kept buffering which was a tad annoying but at least it wasn't an extra charge like at most hotels. When you're at the Ritz the last thing you want is to be nickel and dimed for something which is as basic nowadays as internet.

I love it here. I will absolutely come back when I get the chance; they make you feel like royalty.

Love the service, restaurant, bar, and wine speciality room they have (even though we did not actually use it). The location is great as well and the walkway to the beach from the pool is a nice feature as well.

The only thing I could 'complain' about is the pool is open to other hotel guests. Not sure if it is only one hotel (the Marriott) or only certain times of the year but it does add to the crowd poolside. I guess on the positive side, from a business perspective, they are better able to justify the poolside service (which is a big plus).

Spa is lame. I don't even know how they have the nerve to call it a spa. No steam. No sauna. No hot tub. Lounge is not relaxing because therapists have conversations with guests. The therapist was awesome but why make them try to up-sell treatments in the massage room? Do that at the desk! If you want a Ritz spa experience, go to key biscayne. This one is terrible.

I'm a self-recognized, accepted snob.  There are some circumstances where finding a bargain are not only accepted, but necessary.  However, when it comes to hotels, cutting corners is always scary for fear of what could lie under the covers ;).

The Ritz-Carlton always delivers on service, amenities and overall quality of hotel.  This Ritz is no different.  The hotel is beautiful, it is very close to the water and has a rooftop pool.  Our room was beautifully decorated and comfortable.  We had a nice view of the surrounding "islands" and the multi-million dollar homes there.

We enjoyed a breakfast buffet at the hotel, which was one of the best breakfast buffets I have experienced.  The omelette station was incredible, and I thoroughly enjoyed my egg-white omelette with spinach, mushrooms, chili, bell pepper, shrimp and cheese.  There was a great selection of juice, coffee, fresh fruit, pastries, and hot items.

My only real complaint is that the wi-fi here is not free, unless you're a platinum member (kind of annoying when you're paying a significant amount of money to be able to stay here).  However, the front desk staff was very gracious in taking it off our bill because we were close to platinum status at the time.

I enjoyed my stay at this location, as I have with the other Ritz properties I have visited.  They have 5 star service down to a science, and that is never a bad thing!
