    I have stayed at this W two times and both times were really as they say WONDERFUL.  The first time I stayed in their mega room suite which I have to say the bathroom alone makes you just want to stay inside the room alllllll day! It had a seperate batchtub big enough for 2 and the shower was oversized with seats just in case you want to sit and be lazy and take a long shower. The view is amazing of the ocean with an oversized balcony with really nice loungers. This last time I went we down graded and stayed in a wonderful room so we can stay recession free and it was still really nice. We still had a fairly good view and a balcony. The shower is a cool feature if your staying with your significant other because you can see into the shower while in the bedroom area but I guess it could be a little weird if you are there with friends. Also this hotel as a pretty extensive dvd and cd library where you can borrow and return for no charge.  If you don't return its $30.  They have 2 pools one for the "common" area and another pool in the other tower which is more exclusive and most do not know about. The main pool is the place to see and be seen. It gets ridiculously packed very early and it is on the 5th floor so you have a nice view of the ocean. The bar at the pool is pretty expensive with avg $14 cocktails. On Sundays the pool is open to the public and they have a dj playing techno type music....I personally would prefer top 40's like the Hilton pool plays next door. Their exercise room is nice but small. They have lots of areas to sit and hang out throughout the hotel like whiskey blue, living room where there's free internet, and an area with pool tables. My only complaint about the hotel is their mandatory valet parking of $30 a day.

    Considering I only paid $149 per night, this place was awesome. The room had amazing ocean views. The views from the pool area were also great. The only negatives were minor... such as there was no entrance from the main beach street and it was annoying to have to insert your hotel card everytime on the elevator. You also have to pay for your internet usage by MB (not a flat rate). I thought this was kind of ridiculous. If I was paying $600+ and was getting nickel and dimed for the internet, then I would be pissed. But overall, it was awesome and I would definitely go back.

    The hotel is gorgeous.  The rooms are extremely well appointed and comfortable.  But the pros and cons of this hotel are equal which cause me to think I would probably choose differently the next time.  With every positive there is a negative to challenge it.  I loved being in my room but it was the only place in the hotel I actually wanted to be.  The main pool was gorgeous, perfect temp, breezy deck, comfortable lounge chairs but it was just ridiculous on the weekend.  It was loud and just felt totally sleazy.  The dj's music drowned out any chance for relaxation or conversation.  The people there were tacky, as were the waitresses who were obviously only there to look good as they served very little other purpose like getting you food and drinks or any other typical waitress type activities.  The drinks were extremely over priced as was pretty much anything "extra" at the hotel.  It is whatever/ whenever service, yes, but it comes at a steep price.  Everyone working there was polite and nice.  Paying for parking at this place was outrageous.  Then having to tip the valets every time you wanted your car made it even more awful.  If you were lucky enough to find the other pool on the weekend like I did you got a nice quiet pool but no breeze and hot, almost steamy water in the pool.  They had a huge party the first night I was there in the bar and it was horrible to try to get anywhere in the hotel.  And you weren't allowed to be at the party as it was an invitation only event for people outside of the hotel.  i struggle with this review because I didn't have a bad stay,  there were no kids or families.  the rooms were quiet and comfortable and luxe.  The pool was horrific and loud and the prices for any extras were just ridiculous.  Would I recommend?  I am in my 30's and was looking for a relaxing trip.  I got the lack of children and the high end room that I desired from this hotel but I didn't get the relaxation from it because of the atmosphere.  I would go again on a weekday in the off season, yes.  I would never ever go on a weekend again.

    Beautiful hotel, friendly and helpful staff. On site steak house has a very limited menu and not too good- skip it! I didn't go to the spa, but I did buy some bliss body butter from the spa- love the lemongrass scent (you get a free travel tube in your room). The pool bar food is very good, and I like the Sat. "pool party", once you get a chair you are good to go all day. The actual pool bar frozen drinks are yucky, but the other drinks are ok, though expensive - $12+(you can bring in whatever you want though, so if you are on a budget just bring some liquor and juice or your fave beer and do your own thing- I saw some girls doing this). The pool is 24hrs- wonderful, late at night my girls and I went to sit in the cabanas- had a blast at 3 am LOL. The jacuzzi is the same temp as the pool- warm. The pool was a great temp, and refreshing, no getting used to the water, but the jacuzzi needed to be warmer esp. at night. The beds were SOOOOOOOOOOO comfy, down comforters and soft fuzzy blankets- GREAT! Good sized balconies as well. Right across from the beach. A couple of blocks from food down the main strip- there is a CVS, Fat Tuesdays, Hooters etc. there- great time in Ft. Lauderdale!

    I decided to take a  last minute trip with my boyfriend, and used Priceline. I ended up getting booked here for $100 a night, and wow was that a great deal. The rooms were fantastic- we had a balcony overlooking the water, the bed was insanely comfy, the shower was insanely sexy. The pool was amazing, my only complaint is that they had a shortage of lounge chairs as everyone was there having a great time. The Living Room becomes a sort of club after hours. We weren't very impressed with the crowd but the space is nice and the outdoor area, especially the fire pit was nice. I'd stay here again, if I ever happen to find myself in Lauderdale.

    Great location the facilities are beautiful they open the lower 3 levels including the pool deck as a club, 1st floor is hip hop 2nd and 3rd floor dance music ,It was OK way too crowded  form my  taste ,drinks are around $10 to $15.00 , the outside sitting areas are very inviting specially the pool deck.

    Decent spectacular room with full ocean and full bath room view.  Clear glass showers.  Interesting.  Room service was wonderful.  Steak 954 was superior with good service.  The Living Room Bar during the day was a busy and one bar tender made it hard to get noticed - not so spectacular.  The constant buzz of techno all throughout the hotel was annoying.  I don't need that much music piped into me to feel trendy.

    I stayed in this hotel for 5 nights. It was supposed to be a treat for my mom on her birthday. I had never stayed in w hotels and I was really excited. In reading the reservations they make it clear in no uncertain terms that they are resort hotel and check in/check out times are nonnegotiable. We flew in at 1 but never called to check in earlier. We killed time and at 4 came to check in. I was told our room had not been checked by a manager and we would have to wait. I had given the front desk my credit card and ID at this time. They gave me a $50 adjustment so we went over to the living room to wait and she stated she would call. 15 min came and went. At 40 minutes I went to check on the room because at this time I just wanted to sit in my own room and decompress. She called the manager and was told the marvelous 2 bedroom suite was ready and then asked for my cc and ID again. Minor annoyance. She writes that we are in 1902 in tower 1 and tells me that. Once you get into the elevator you have to use your room key to get anywhere. Up we go and no room. We call down and we are supposed to be in tower 2. It is now almost 5. As we walk to our room the smell of French fries is gross. There are 3 room service trays outside the room. Ugh!  The last reviewer that talked about how dark and cold the hallways were is not kidding. If you have any vision impairment I would not stay here.  The room looks promising. Both rooms are separated by pocket doors, the kitchen is lovely though seriously under stocked, and I run out to the balconies. The description is of 2 balconies....the widest point of the biggest balcony is maybe 3 feet. There is one chair out there without a seat cushion. The balcony is triangular shaped and pretty unusable. I was planning on sitting out on my balcony....bummer!  The beds are ok. First night in the second bedroom and there is hair on the shower wall. I am now grossed out. The floor in the bathroom was not cleaned while I was there.  The pocket door are good in theory but don't work at all. You can hear EVERYTHING through them!  I could hear my dad walking and eating cereal. Normal noise totally came through the doors. I had to get earplugs to sleep there!  The tv was another saga...the first night and morning the ESPN channels became pixelated and froze. We called that morning and was told that they would come right up. We left to go shopping, walking by the food trays and smell again!  We got back in the afternoon and the food was still there!  I couldn't take it so I went to the front desk to ask them to clean the halls. The stench was unbearable. The next day, and the tv was still not working. Repair man came again and told us it was a splitter. It initially worked but stopped again that night. We called down and was told it was a "tower problem". We call again the next day and they finally replaced the tv!  Fixes the problem...on day 4!  Now on to the key issue. You need a key to get anywhere in the elevators. You can make it to the ground floor and the 4th floor where the welcome desk is, but when the card doesn't work and the doors close on you it is a little scary!  My parents were trapped after they went to work out. They had to go get new cards and the guys they were on the elevator with (keys also didn't work) told them they had to get new keys every day. My key last one more day until all of us were in the elevator and none of our keys worked. We went to the front desk and the lady scanned them and told us they were fine but she would reissue the cards!  They are obviously not fine!  She wasn't the most pleasant and we brought up that other people have also had card issues. She told us that the cards were better than before. The gym isn't they best I have ever seen. It has some cardio machines but mostly machines for weights. If you come from tower 2 you have to run across a pitch black outdoor patio to the other tower. The valets are very nice and did a very good job. If you are a single girl I would not stay here. It is too dark with too many hiding places. They obviously have a great bar but I think they have had trouble too. They have security everywhere on the weekends and most doors locked down.  I got my bill emailed to me and it told me to use the kiosk on the first floor to check out. Shockingly the kiosk didn't work so I had to go up to the front desk!  It was the cherry on top for the stay. I wouldn't recommend this hotel.

    This was a nice hotel, but it had numerous issues that took away from the experience. First, the good things...the W is brand new hotel in a beautiful building, probably one of the nicer looking buildings on the beach. At check in, the lady was very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and had a great view (17th floor). Modest travelers should be warned, some of the rooms have see through glass showers, so if you're traveling with someone you don't want to see in full, maybe this isn't the hotel for you. I just considered that part of the contemporary vibe of the hotel, however. The biggest problem with this hotel seemed to be that they did not know how to properly allocate their staff. For example, out by one of the pools one afternoon, the pool area was EXTREMELY dirty...there was trash everywhere (beer cans, napkins, random pieces of bread...all over the ground!), and nobody in sight cleaning this stuff up. There were a couple people working the pool bar, but they were not leaving the bar to clean. The coffee tables in the "Living Room", their lounge/bar area near the lobby, were also consistently dirty. Sat down one morning and there were crumbs all over the table - late that afternoon they were STILL there! While all this is going on, you will see dozens of staff dressed in black suits aimlessly roaming (or standing) around everywhere, not really doing anything except looking pretty. I don't really understand this. The front desk seemed consistently understaffed - I saw people checking in late one afternoon and there seemed to be a 20-30 minute wait to check in. The tower we stayed in only had 3 elevators for over 20 floors, so there was often a 5 minute wait for an elevator to come, and they were usually packed. One morning, at checkout time, there was a line of 15-20 people down our hallway on the 17th floor, just waiting for an elevator!! How ridiculous - this must have been stressful for these people, many of which I'm sure had flights to catch. Housekeeping was slow, often not servicing the room until very late in the afternoon (many nice hotels have done 2 rounds of housekeeping by that time of day). The restaurant had its issues as well, which I will put in a separate review. I realize this hotel is only 2 years old, and new hotels can have some kinks to work out, but my god people, get your act together!

    This hotel rocks.  There is nothing close in  Fort Lauderdale.  We had a huge 2 bedroom suite with an amazing balcony overlooking the ocean.  Everything was hip and designed.  The staff was hyper friendly.  When they answer the phone  "what is your wish?" the are dead serious.  Every random member at every level of staff was smiling and went out of their way to make you smile!  The food throughout was top notch.  Great pool, with good, no great dj all day!  Every sense was pampered to by both the staff and building: sight,sound, smell, touch, taste.  I would highly advise everyone to get on a plane and go to this hotel NOW!

    This is probably one of the cheesier W Hotel locations.

    Decor was bland, service was OK although not on par with other W Hotel locations, location is great if you had already planned a FLL trip.

    What is the big deal about the pool? It's just stairs running into the pool. It's also not a real "infinity" pool that flows out overlooking the ocean, it's an infinity-edged pool.

    Whenever, whatever service seems to be clueless when simply requesting a pair of slippers and toothbrushes.

    Enjoy the awkward/forced conversations and corny jokes with the bartenders in the lounge.

    Now I know what the "W" stands for......WOW! that is what my review will consist of just WOW!!! This place is amazing. It is a little pricey, but worth it.  You have an ocean view from the pool. and bars right around the corner. The best part of the hotel is the plexi glass entrance into lobby you literally walk into the pool to get to lobby.

    At night, the place is a solid night club.  Young crowd, no cover, about $10/drink, crazy cars parked outside the door, people were dressed more casually than similar clubs elsewhere in the country so worry too much about that.  Staff was great

    I like the W a bit more than the Gansevoort. (But can't complain because I get hooked up at the Gansevoort). The pool layout is completely different. Besides the fact that it's not on a rooftop it's a bit more lounge like and relaxed. The rooms are nice but as I feel in any W hotel I don't want to think about what's previously happened in those rooms.

    Fabulous Hotel! Excellent everything! The view, decor, bed, concierge, staff, and housekeeping. Close to everything and right on the beach. if I had anything negative to say it would be that parking was $30 a day, but in all fairness, I guess that is typical for the area. This was a great hotel.

    Solid staff, know they are there to serve. Good food and drinks. Lobby bar is very nice and again, our servers were very fun and attentive.
    The room: nice for what this hotel is. I love the huge shower and my ocean view from the 15 th floor was great!
    The pool: Sweet! Lots of very big lounging beds, and it's on the 3rd floor so you can see the beach. Nice poolside service, although I HATE having to go to the pool desk and get my towels! Put them on the chairs, better yet, prep my chair with a few towels so I can just crash!

    My wife and I stayed here for our babymoon.  As always, we try to stay in W's wherever we go.  We really enjoyed this one.

    Here are some highlights.

    First off, we got a complimentary platinum upgrade to an ocean-facing suite (room 1230).  We're talking two balconies overlooking the pool and ocean, large sized bedroom, and a large living room.  Also, two complimentary bottles of Fiji water each day.

    Room service was fast, and tasty.  We ordered a grilled cheese and a burger around midnight, and it was delivered before 12:30a.

    The pool staff was very gracious.  They were proactive in helping us find chairs, and get towels set up for us on the chairs as well.  Also, the cocktail servers came around fairly often to check on us.

    Breakfast at Steak 954 was delicious.  We had the french toast and cuban egg sandwich.  The jellyfish tank in the restaurant adds a nice touch to the place.

    Valet parking was great- they always had our car available within a few minutes of calling down, and always offered to provide directions.

    Housekeeping service was slightly inconsistent in terms of refilling the toiletries and bath products, but no big deal- we just asked for them separately.

    Note: I am on a personal mission to stay at every W Hotel in the USA (and then hopefully branch out to worldwide!)

    Reservation staff, welcome desk & valet's, excellent. I love the living room & stairs to the poolside bar, DJ @ the pool spins great high energy house tunes I had a special request for towels for my wife's tanning products for her bodybuilding competition, they were brought up immediately along with my request for a fridge.  I used the W2Go service for boarding passes, it was excellent.  My wife & I will return for vacation here! Our trip was for her competition, the W passes with flying colors on our other special requests as well.  Acura MDX shuttle is a fantastic ride, their representative was such a great help on concierge requests.  I ate room service, in Whisky Blue & at poolside bar, service was quick, prices fair and food tasted superb. My wife & I noticed that the staff is very courteous, professional & engaging, 10 foot rule in effect & because I was there many day's everybody called me be name, impressive! This is the best, coolest, hippest place to be in Fort Lauderdale! Last but not least my suite was bright, spotless, everything worked, I love the huge shower & the biggest walk-in closet I have ever seen in any hotel room plus the 2 decks made this a most memorable stay!

    The hotel is brand new and very mod.  The shower has a glass enclosure that looks out into the room so if you're staying with a business room mate - definitely not recommended.  
    The pool was a bit intimidating on the weekends.  It was like LA moved to Ft. Lauderdale.  DJ and lots of fake everywhere if you know what i mean....  Same with the bar scene - very expensive.  $12 for a glass of house chardonay.  There is a Bliss spa located in the hotel which was nice - I had a facial and a pedicure that ran me $400.  Would I stay at this hotel again?  NO

    Ohhhhh...I grew up in Hawaii and love this W in particular.  The infinity-pool is a SWEET place to have cocktails in the day time.  It is gorgeous with a DJ and hot tub overlooking the Atlantic in the backdrop.  In the room, the shower area is completely see-through from the sleeping area.  

    Best of all, the Bliss spa was heavenly!  Get a facial from Stacey.  Not only did she provide the best facial ever, she made me totally relaxed and like I was on another planet.  

    Did not hang at the Living Room lounge in the evening during high time, but did complementary breakfast there.  

    All in all, I would be back at this hotel in a flash.

    This is probably the most impressive, best hotel in Fort Lauderdale. Hands down. Everything from the service to the decor is impeccable. Very pricey, but if you can't afford a $17 glass of wine at the bar, then maybe it's not for you. Great atmosphere everywhere you go in the hotel. I rented a room here for my 22nd birthday party, so I brought all of my own liquor. I booked the room months in advance, and I took a tour of my different suite options before I confirmed my reservation, because I was very picky with having a second bathroom, how big I wanted the balcony to be for my guests, a great view, and if not a full kitchen then at least a wet bar, and this room had it all in it. I decided to go with the Fantastic Suite. It was $500 for the night. The view was breath-taking, direct ocean-front view with a huge wrap-around balcony (I requested the end unit.). Flat-screens everywhere, beautiful bedroom and bathroom, everything was very modernized, an exact fit to my taste & style. I booked the room for the Saturday night that happened to fall on my birthday, as well. I get there the day of check-in, I get my keys, go up to the room to check it out and make sure that everything is how it should be. The first thing that I looked for was the wet bar, this particular room did not have it in it for some reason, although it was the same suite number that I requested. I did take the tour months in advance, so maybe I didn't notice it at the time, but in the room description, it states that there is a wet bar in it. I immediately went downstairs to let them know that it's not what I was expecting, and the guy at the front desk told me that he would look to see what else is available. He then says, "I have a 2-bedroom flat available, which is about 4 times the size of the room that you're in now." I said, "okay great, but what is it gonna cost me to upgrade to that?" He said that it would be a complimentary upgrade. I was amazed and very impressed with the professionalism by not only him but by all of the staff members throughout my visit. This new room was incredible. Not only HUGE, but it had a FULL kitchen with an island in it, bamboo flooring, a jacuzzi in the master bedroom along with a stall shower, and a gorgeous view. The guest bedroom also had it's own private bathroom, as well. It wasn't a direct ocean-front view this time, or as big of a balcony as the first room, but I was so in love with the actual room itself, that it didn't make a big difference to me. The only thing that I wasn't impressed with about this hotel is their incidental fee that they hold on your credit card ($200 a night), and the $32 a day parking. My party turned out to be everything that I imagined it to be, and the staff treated me with the utmost respect throughout my visit. Whenever I would call downstairs to request something, they would call me by Ms. and (my last name) and then they'd promptly bring me whatever I requested. I will definitely be returning to the W Fort Lauderdale and would love to experience the other hotels by Starwood in the near future.

    Dark Hoad Hotel. The Steak House has outrageous prices, and its so dark you cannot   read menu!  Beds are ok, I ve slept in better Hotel beds. NO doors on bathroom.
    No cafe in this place, only open sertain hours of day, room service is horribly late
    Its a very dull sedate place.

    Though the W in the name is a small reference to the luxury portfolio of hotels in the 'Westin hotels and resorts' brand owned by Starwood, I've come to conclude that W actually stands for WONDERFUL!!

    I've been staying at W's for the past 6 years, and the experience is always exactly what I expected for the money I'm paying. The rooms are pristine as is the service offered by the hotel. The front desks are extremely knowledgeable and it seems that they are never lost for an answer, no matter what question you may have about the facility. If they can't help you, they quickly route you to the concierge desk, equipped with yet another fountain of information waiting to assist. The only down side to the W in Ft. Lauderdale, it's become a little too popular for it's own good, which makes waiting for and riding the elevators a NYC style subway experience. Give yourself an additional 10 mins just to get from your floor to the main floor.

    Very nice hotel.  Great place to take a gf or wife if your trying to impress them.  Rooms were very nice with a spacious balcony.  Got a great deal on hotels.com for a free 4th night if you pay for 3 so thats why we stayed there.  Not a place really for older people, lobby plays club music all day long and is def going for a "hip vibe".  For example the showers have a glass pane window that shows into the area w/ the bed so you can see right in(not exactly the place to go w/ your boys unless you want to see each other shower).  Restaurant at hotel steak 954 was very good and overall it was a very good experience.

    Very nice rooms
    Concierge made it very easy to have flowers delivered and were very helpful with all needs
    Very nice balcony
    cool pool bar area
    Right on the beach, walkable to bar areas and area restaurants as well as water taxi.

    Cons-
    Didn't have a car but mandatory valet parking at 30 dollars a day is quite high
    Drinks at pool bar were pretty expensive especially considering the poor service
    Very hard to get a chair at the pool, too small for the size of hotel
    Elevators get very busy during peak times, found ourselves taking stairs on a couple of occassions.

    This hotel is beautiful, great location by the beach, and very hip....maybe too hip for some and I'm the most un-hipster person around. It is on the pricey side but that is to be expected for the W. The pool was wonderful and the service is top notch. The extras are expensive but in line with other hotels the area.

    Amazing hotel!

    Can't get any better for Fort Lauderdale. Across the street from the beach. Can rent loungers and charge them to your room - towels provided. Only con: apparently there is a rule of no drinking of alcohol on the beach... but when I threw my water bottle in the recycle - all I saw was beer bottles so not sure how much they actually enforce the rule.

    Hotel Features:
    Decor is modern and beautiful - Whiskey Blue (bar) has blue hanging LED lights and comfy furniture. Great meeting rooms (a little torturous though, as I sit in my suit and gaze out the window at the parasailers and beach-goers). Living room area bar is huge and the bartenders are great! Very spacious and open feel.

    Rooms:
    Rooms have a sweet white alligator plush that eats your TV remote daily, sitting area with small couch and table, spacious bathroom with tub, typical W furnishings, and Bliss toiletries of course!

    Pool:
    The pool area is phenomenal with a view of the beach, live DJ spinning music; even during the day, pretty purple beach towels, heavy duty luxury lounge chairs, great drinks (they know how to make a double pina colada!), super cool stairway that leads under the pool so you can see the people swimming.

    Food:
    Yummy! Even the meeting room catering was good!

    Valet:
    Fast and courteous even when hotel was at capacity!

    Same as it ever was...

    Check out:
    I don't really want to but I miss my JRT and unicorn back in Seattle!

    I would definitely stay here again - loved it!

    What a beautiful place. Go there. Drink there. Stay there.

    Spent some time at Whiskey. Love the vibe and layout.  Gorgeous hostess. Cool crowd, but a few too many people. This lounge has a wrap-around bar, plenty of little tables, and a patio. It was a little hard to enjoy since it was so packed. I think when the newness, and hence the crowd, wears off this would be a great place to catch a drink.

    Good location across from the beach, walking distance to all touristy things.  Well equipped weight room.  Do not stay on 5th floor, as this floor accesses the weight room and pool deck, both busy destinations.  Some staff very attentive, others aloof.  Some areas of hotel mood lit too dark, slipped down stairs between street level and lobby.  Mood music can be loud at night in lobby and lounge, and during day at pool.  there is even music in the elevator!  you cant escape the music, Refreshing showers, and delightfully comfortable beds and pillows.  Please note that the bathroom doesnt NOT have a door, it has a shower curtain, and the sower has a glass wall w shutters that can be shut for privacy.  Hall sound does not emanate into rooms.  Room sanitation could have been cleaner with more detail orientation from hotel staff. We saw rust and dirt in corners and in missed areas, it seemed the maids did a quick job without much effort.  Its a very trendy hotel.  
    Valet exceptionally efficient and polite.  of NOTE:  $32/day for parking, however parking is tight in this area so you have to pay and they know it!  
    The BLISS spa was GREAT, however you could stay at another hotel and still go to the spa.

    So we had the pleasure of staying at the W for our  honeymoon. Thank god, I was blessed with wonderful in-laws. Everyone was super nice there. They were very pleasant, remembered our names, etc. We stayed on the 21st floor, ocean front. It was an AMAZING view. The food was super tasty...Room service was fast and 24 hours. And the rooms was really cool, very european looking.

    We didn't however like that everywhere we went, they played horrible music. It was like this trendy, techno, european music. Nothing we have ever heard before. The other thing we weren't too pleased with were the prices. Everything was super expensive. A hot dog, burger, and two cocktails $80. Ok, so I understand we are at the W, but really, $15 for a hot dog is a little much. Yes it was a big dog, but pricey.
    Lastly, when we checked out, they charged us for the breakfasts at Steak954. We had to call and dispute it. They did take it off the bill, but it was just the hassle. For a moment there we were worried that the $50 breakfast for two (which added up to over $150 for 3 days) was going to up our bill. Not to mention $30 to valet park.

    Overall, it was a beautiful hotel. Would I go out of my way to stay there again, no.

    I had high expectations for this hotel.  While my higher-floor room was appointed nicely with a nicely Florida modern flair and had a beautiful deck overlooking the Atlantic, a couple things just turned me off about this W.  

    First, I felt highly marketed to.  For instance, everything in the room from the Bliss soap to my pillow was for sale (and too obviously so).  Even my room key had an advertisement (for an Acura).   It was all so Las Vegas.  

    As well, the decor in public spaces was a bit "ikea."  While beautiful now, nothing about this hotel looked like it would survive the test of time.  There is no focus on longevity.  In a plastic fantastic society where consumerism in fads creates massive garbage in the  future, the W Ft. Lauderdale will become a relic sooner than most of itscontemporaries.

    Nice modern hotel with large rooms and balconies - what you expect from W. Very professional and courteous staff. I liked the layout of the "living room".

    Many people had problems with the paid internet connection in their rooms. This was a persistent problem that eventually was fixed (and you can bring your laptop to the living room for free internet in the meantime) but many guests are here for business (convention center) and really need internet for work.

    The main entrance is somewhat poorly designed. The two towers create sort of a wind tunnel. It's a bit amusing seeing everyone's hair and dresses whipping in the wind - unless it's your hair or dress.

    Beautiful, modern hotel. Really nice staff. Great pools. The clientele was reminiscent of the Jersey Shore cast, but that added to the amusement for me. The hallways were really cool - felt like you were underwater.

    Only negative is the mandatory, disorganized valet parking for $30+tax/night. I hate when hotels do that.

    I have stayed here several times in the past year. Love the free pool (both the billiard room and the swimming pool).  Overall, it's a great hotel with excellent service and friendly staff. The valets work hard to make you happy.  Not too impressed with the bars.  They are small a bit overpriced.  Excellent food in the steak house. Rooms are small but nice.  Love the HD TVs.  The munchie boxes are much too tempting and I would recommend having it removed from your room unless you enjoy paying $10 for cashews. Great views of the beach.

I dont know if the employees think that working for the W Hotel is a privilege or what but man you guys were awful. The pool staff was horrendous and i mean absolutely atrocious.

    Awesome hotel!

    Service = pretty darn good (call ahead for your car, it's takes the valet a while to get it)

    Rooms = typical W Hotel rooms except the showers are all glass and in the middle of the bedroom...very sexy and hot!  I've stayed here a total of 10 nights in the past month and always on the 18th floor overlooking the ocean...nothing better than to wake up and fall asleep to that view and sound of waves.  Awesome!

    Stunning, beautiful, unique and contemporary are all words that come to mind when I stayed here this past memorial weekend. The design of the space is utter genius. Having a design background, I really thought the designers of this space truly played up on the Wow factor. From the moment you walk into the space you are greeted with a sense of cool and the vibe definitely plays this up even more. The staff was extremely nice, they even offered us a free upgrade to one of their suites because they had run out of regular rooms. Getting hooked up is an understatement!

    The two bedroom villa was amazing. Huge stainless steel kitchen, dining room, living area and two bedrooms. The master bedroom had that "oh so sexy" vibe,  with an immense tub that overflowed into the rest of the room without any enclosures. The shower is completely see through adding to the sexiness of the room.

    Although the hotel was a great place to stay, it is really pricey. Do not come here if you plan to be on a budget. SPLURGE, SPLURGE and SPLURGE are the only words that come to mind.

    Only downfall of the entire hotel is the pool area. It is a bit small and if you do not reserve a lounge chair, it is nearly impossible to get one.

    I booked a room here for my birthday a couple weeks ago, I was really stoked about it but it turned out to be awful from start to finish. I would not reccommend this hotel to anybody, ever.

    I went to check into the room around 7pm and the girl at the desk just looked at me like I was an idiot. She was like "are you SURE that it wouldn't be under any other name?" So I politely stepped away to call the company that I booked the room with to see what the problem was. I assumed I made a mistake because I thought there would be no way that this nice of a hotel would've missed a booking. Bookit.com told me everything was fine but the W desk girl told me that I had to have them send a fax with my reservation. 30 minutes later she has the faxed paperwork, finally booked the room in front of me (which took forever) and then asked me for a credit card. I don't carry credit cards so I gave her my debit card. She ran a $200 hold  that was declined because there was not enough money on the card. I had just used that same card to book the room so there was only about $150 on there at the time. I asked her if she could lower the deposit amount and she refused. I spoke with the manager and he also refused. I have been in this situation before because I don't use credit cards and no matter how "luxury" the hotel is they will always offer a lower deposit amount or take cash instead. The manager flat out refused and told me that it was a strict policy that he couldn't budge on. At that point I was told I could cancel the reservation if I wanted to but they couldn't give me my money back because it was in the hands of bookit.com . I was stuck. Fortunately, a friend of mine was near by and I was able to use her credit card to check in.

    After all that, I really expected the room to be amazing...and it was not at all. VERY DISAPPOINTING. It was a standard with no upgrades. The bathroom is the first thing you see when you walk in the door and it is completely open. No door whatsoever on the bathroom. Not even a curtain. I was like...really? God forbid you have to use it while you are waiting for someone to come in. I had people on they're way over to celebrate my birthday with and I was kind of embarrassed that the room sucked.

    I wake up the next morning to realize that there was NO COFFEE MAKER. What kind of hotel doesn't have a coffee maker in the room??? Seriously? I called for my car in the morning and on my way to check out I was greeted by a very potent and extremely gross stench of vomit. Someone had probably just threw up all over the hallway the night before but it smelled like it was still there or they just DID NOT clean it up properly. Classy.

    After finally checking out of the hotel (On the 4th floor instead of the Ground floor...trendy),  I waited for my car about 15 minutes before I asked about it and was told that it was never brought up. Then I waited another 20 minutes only to be approched my a manager type person in a suit wondering what I was doing standing outside of the hotel. Really??? What does it look like i'm doing? Trying to leave!!! Luckily, my car pulled up seconds later and I got out of there happily.

    Considering the competition on Ft. Lauderdale beach, I will NEVER go back there again. The staff is rude and stuck up and honestly you can find a room twice as nice for about half the cost. I would recommend the Hilton or Double Tree Gallery One each about a mile away, or the Ritz Carlton just down the block. You WILL have a much better experience at any of those.

    This was one of the best hotel experiences I've had thus far.
    Will agree with everyone's comments about the hotel decor, rooms, the amazing pool and service.
    Ran out of toiletries, and when we called the desk (who answer: What is your wish today? or smthing bn those lines), 2 mins later I kid you not a guy knocks on the door with a basket full of toiletries in his hands. Whatever, Whenever LOL

    The only cons: $30 parking and the bartenders at the lounge/bar areas at nights. Clueless about drinks and absolutely Slow, Slow, Slow.

    The hotel is beautiful. My parents would say it's dim and too "modern" for their liking, however if you're a 20/30 something, or a 40+ who is hip to modern decor, this will be your cup of tea. I got the pleasure to stay in a suite for my birthday weekend last month. The suite looked more like an apartment because it had a FULL kitchen, 2 bathrooms, 2 living rooms and more space than we knew what to do with. The hotel is super chic and the staff is very welcoming. HOWEVER, Itook off a star because of the horrible service we received from one of the valet guys.

    My friends and I pulled back into the hotel after an evening out and were greeted by the valet "gentleman". My friend asked him a question about billing the charges to a credit card, rather than the room. As he was "helping" us a Maserati pulled up and he said to us,
    "Sorry, but I gotta make my money where I can." and ran over to the expensive car.
    We waited by our Charger for 10mins for him to return. When he finally returned he said, "Well I got good news and bad news! The bad news is I can't do what you wanted with the billing of the valet" So we asked what the good news was.
    "I just saved a bunch of money on my car insurence by switching to Geico!"
    SERIOUSLY?!
    I have a good sense of humor and I am all about joking around. HOWEVER, when I am at work and a customer comes to me with an issue, even if I cannot solve it, I try to make them feel like I care and I tried. This dude was a jerk on all levels. It soured my otherwise perfect evening for sure.

    We just returned from a long weekend at the W-Fort Lauderdale. All in all, it was a positive experience. It's true that most W's are are pretty much the same. They do have their formula down.

    The downsides: Anything you do costs money. If you drink that bottle of Figi water in your room $5. If you order a Lemonade by the pool $5. If you want wi fi it's $15 in room or $7 in the biz center. (I've never been to a hotel that charged you for internet in the actual biz center) If you forgot your toothpaste you must buy some-no free rides here kids. Our neighbors woke up at 9am listening to techno music and did it again from 5-7pm. My husband thought they were listening to the same song the whole time, but I had to explain it was different songs with the same pounding beat. The gym is small and the equipment is low-end.

    The upsides: We had a "Fabulous" room and it was really nice. We had a breathtaking view of the ocean and the pool and could open our patio doors super wide and get a nice breeze in the room. The pool is gorgeous and I really enjoyed being out there. The restaurant (Steak 954) is amazing. We ate there 2 nights in a row and when we ventured out to a recommended local restaurant we wished we had gone to Steak 954 a third night. Bliss spa is there and we had some great treatments. The best part is that if you really don't want to leave the hotel you don't have to. The "living room" bar and lounge is relaxing or you can club it up a little more in "Whiskey Blue" downstairs.

    I probably won't go back to Fort Lauderdale just because there's nothing really special about it. It could be any beach anywhere. It's very crowded and we only went there because we booked a last minute trip to somewhere (anywhere) warm. But, it served it's purpose and the W met our needs.

    You know what I love?  6am flights.  Love em.  Especially when they're business trips.  FML.

    So I went to south Florida to meet with a client.  Other than the fact that I was operating on 8 hours of sleep combined over the course of two nights, it was actually a pretty good stay.

    The W Ft Lauderdale was very nice.  The staff is artificially polite, but whatever, give me my room key and then leave me alone.  Thaaaaaanks.  I did have an interesting interaction with the guy checking me in due to the fact that the room was booked on our CFO's Starwood points, which means that the room was defaulted to being booked in both of our names.  When the guy asked if I would prefer two queens as opposed to the king that I had booked, I got an interesting look... and had to proceed to explain that our CFO was not in fact on the trip, and that I was flying solo...

    The interior of the hotel is nice... what you expect of a W.  The lobby is whatever, but the pool is pretty fantastic.  You walk up in the middle of the pool... literally.  It's a glass walkway that runs up in the middle of the pool... so if there are bikinis in the water, you can admire ;)  Not that I did... there weren't any in there... but you COULD...

    The room was small but very nice.  Sitting out on the balcony doing some work, if I looked left I was 50 yards from the beach, and if I looked right it was 100 yards or so to the lagoon... beautiful.  The bed was very comfortable, although I was so buzzed and tired by the time I got to sleep that it didn't even matter... could've been a bed of nails.  I also liked the shower in the middle of the bedroom... nice touch, interesting use of small space.  I appreciated the flat-screen on the wall and the nice ipod stereo... made my trip almost feel like home.  Not really, but still, it was nice.

    All in all, I'm going 4 stars, although I'm not factoring price into this since a) I don't know what the prices of the rooms were because b) I didn't pay for the room ;)  That's the best setup in my book!  Nice hotel, great location, comfortable (cozy) rooms, nice infinity pool, well-stocked bar.  Sold.

    We have been traveling down to south Florida for the last 20 plus years and always stayed at the Ritz.  My preference always is the Ritz Carlton in Fort Lauderdale, but sometimes we have stayed at the Ritz in South Beach when the Ritz in Fort Lauderdale has been booked up. This weekend the Ritz in Fort Lauderdale again was booked up and I just did not want to stay in South Beach, all my friends and favorite shops and restaurants are up here. So we thought what the heck let's try something that's not the Ritz, it can't kill us at least we will still be in Fort Lauderdale.  Well I have to say it has been the best surprising experience that I was not expecting!  Maybe we have just closed our minds to trying new things because we thought we had found the best why try anything else?  Well the Ritz being full up was the best thing that could have ever happened to us because we will never stay at the Ritz again!  Mainly because of one gentleman Ryan Thomas, one of the managers at the W hotel. He has made our stay at the hotel epic and like I mentioned has changed my husband and mine vacationing habits of 20 years.  He explained to us at here at the W anything you need or you want they get it for you at ANY TIME!!!! As long of course that it is not illegal or immoral.  For example my husband wanted a very specific brand and flavor of ice cream, which is very difficult to find, and don't you know Jonathan Estrada, one of the pool attendants was sent out by Ryan Thomas to fetch the ice cream.  Jonathan had a hell of a time but did not give up he found that specific flavor and delivered it to my husband on his pool lounge chair!  My husband was in heaven!  You can't buy service like that, either you get it or you don't.  The only thing that saddens me is that I know Mr. Ryan Thomas will not be in his position for long if his superiors are smart, or his competition should swoop him up and bring him up to the top. Because after all he converted die hard Ritz customers in less then a whole weekend, cause the weekend is not even over yet. Also I hardly ever take the time to blog about something or someone they or the place really have to earn it, the W, Ryan and Jonathan really did!  We will not stay any place but here when traveling to South Florida not to mention everything else was right up to par to the Ritz of course all the amenities and the services, etc. but better.  Cause the pool is open 24 hours and there is two pools instead of one.  Also another upgrade is they have an excellent Restarunt on property Steak 954.  I forgot to mention at our first meeting of Mr. Ryan Thomas he handed my husband and I each a business card and pointed out that his cell phone number was on it and that anything we needed or wanted we should not hesitate to call him at any time, and he was dead serious! That is the best customer service I have ever experienced and never at the the Ritz.

    Background.  I stayed in this hotel 30 nights this year. It was a home away from home.

    The good:  The pool faces the ocean and has a great view.  People watching is fantastic.  The hotel does put forth effort in making sure that you are happy.  Most of the staff appears new.  You can tell because during check-in they follow a standard script.  If you are a platinum member try and request an ocean front room on one of the 5 highest floors.  These rooms have a living room and huge balconies.  You can also request a condo in Tower Two.  Having a kitchen is quite nice when you are there for a full week.  The only downer in Tower Two is that view is sub-par.  The location of the hotel is fantastic.  You are close to shops, bars...and the beach.

    The Bad:  The valet is nice and courteous, but they are horrible at there job.  My car was lost twice, and my colleagues cars were lost multiple times.  When I say lost I mean they couldn't find the keys, or they just left the car in the lot and never took care of it. The hotel layout can also become annoying.  If you enter the hotel past 6pm you have to enter on the east side and go through the check-in area.

    Stayed here for 4 nights last week.  It was great.  The rooms are awesome.  We spent each night partying in our hotel room.  The balcony. The seating area.  Awesome.  

    We even had problems with our iPod player in the room and they sent one of the technicians up to fix it.  She did it with a smile and was totally accomodating.  We ordered room service twice.  Both times, the food came promptly and it was delicious.  I love the WhateverWhenever service.  And most of all, i love that it had its own bar area with microwave.  

    This place was a total SCENE.  The first few nights was cool, but after awhile it was just plain annoying that you practically needed a blood sample to walk in and out of the place to prove you were staying at the hotel.  Also, it was annoying that on Sunday (we as paying guests) wanted to lay out at the pool.  It was about 530pm.  They said we couldn't and they were closing up for an event.  Really?  If this is a case, they should have  a newsletter for their guests letting us know what is closing early for the day, etc.  Inconvenient.  Minus a star.

    Dispite that, I would totally stay here again......and i know i will!!

    Very very very disappointed.  First off, our room had dirty bedding-I'm talking love stains all over the sheets, comforter, etc.  When we complained about our sheets, we were told that someone would be there immediately to change them.  Almost one hour later, the housekeeping manager came to our room, apologized, offered us champagne, and sent someone to change them.  The champagne was nice, but at a 4 star hotel why should bedding be dirty?  When our sheets were changed, the new shirts had stains as well! We did not have any amenities in our room upon arrival either (e.g. soap, shampoo, etc.).  Was the hotel even cleaned when we arrived???
    The pool is much smaller then the pictures show.  The spa was broken-the water was cold.  
    It was a beautiful hotel, the see through shower was amazingly sexy, but overall very disappointed.

    This is a huge place - feels more like a carnival mega-ship than a hotel.  At high season the place fails in service:  lines for everything, over-crowded elevators (we had to wait 10 minutes for an elevator that had room for the two of us and our carry on bags).  Enormous area was mobbed. Weird, coldly designed bar areas.  But here's the topper:  Bathrooms have no doors, are fully visible from the room through a huge window.  This means that you can see everything that your room partner might be doing in the bathroom from just about any point in the room.   What idiot architect designed this place?  Our "wonderful" room wasn't.

    In my opinion Starwood Hotels are the best...especially W...and this one definitely held a high standard of luxury.  Yes you will pay $$$ but it's worth it.  I will be returning.

    I love this hotel.  From the staff at check-in, to the overall look and feel of the hotel, it's a great place to stay.

    The rooms are awesome.  I'm a fan of the bathroom.. with the window/shower.  Yeah, others complain, but I think it's fun :-)

    My only complaint was the fire alarm went off in our room randomly, apparently because it needed a new battery (no, not a beep every once in a while, a crazy "you better get outta here" buzzer).  They took care of it right away, and then helped us plug in the DVD player which somehow got disconnected, or was never connected in the first place.

    Oh, the view, what a view!

    I stayed at the W Hotel Ft Lauderdale this past weekend and was highly impressed, and I travel a lot! The service was above and beyond especially Joseph our bellman. He was great from the moment he greeted us upon arrival until he was helping us with directions to Key West upon our departure...does he work 24/7...he was always there to help...only complaint he is a Dolphins fan...Go Jets! Everyone else was fantastic too! The hotel itself...although we were not there very much was clean and beautiful. Would highly recommend this hotel to anyone and would stay here again for the friendly helpful service alone!

    I love the W Hotels..always have ...from NY to Miami, I've enjoyed the ambiance of the lounges at several locations and have always gotten top-notch service, atmosphere, and cool design to gaze at... Fort Lauderdale's location is no different.  

    Mind you, this review is strictly for the lounge area...haven't stayed here.

    When you pull up to the valet you're under these white neon orbs of light that seem like they're ready to beam you up into another (water) dimension..  then you enter the hotel, and it's exactly as if you've arrived in that otherwordly place.. such cool art from steel wall hangings, cracked glass temper and other things that show various depth, color, and life to this unique place that replicates the beautiful blue oceans of the area.  

    I sat near a painting of a full moon wrapped in the ocean's waves which is located on the 3rd floor (lounge area) right under the pool.  there's beams of blue and white lights and other swirly lights that make you feel as if you're "under the sea" with little nemo.

    if you look up you can view the pool above and the swimmer's in it through slots in the ceiling as well as glass along the staircase leading to the pool... great for oggling hot bodies splashing about.  

    From the bar I ordered the grapefruit basil martini made with some cucumber vodka that the bartender recommended instead of the gin in the original recipe.. was yummy!  came with fresh basil in my glass.  I also ordered some tapas that included fresh made hummus with olives, cuban pork fried rolls, fresh spring rolls and mahi mahi tacos.. all was very delish and perfect portions for sharing.. i always prefer tapas as it's more fun to have a party of flavors in your mouth than eating just one meal..

    minus the lonely drunk woman who sat next to me and talked my ear off for about a half hour, I had a good time, and besides she was sweet and missing home which i heard all about!! (apparently kid rock is her neighbor and their kids play together).  

    I love it here and will be back often.  great for a date or hanging with a group of friends.

    oh, one funny thing about it is they have a sort-of co-ed bathroom...you walk in and it's one large room with women on one side and men on the next with the only thing dividing the two is the sinks in the middle... it's a bit disorienting at first!!

    My stay overall was pretty nice, but there were some major hick-ups.  In terms of the location, it is great, and the hotel is beautiful.  It is clear that the designers paid great attention to detail and it is well maintained (at least the visible parts).  

    When we arrived at about 6 our room was not ready, which is a little late to be having that problem, however Bobby at the front desk took care of us, got us set up at the bar, and moved our room in short order.  So, no problem here.  Bartenders and front desk were great and friendly.

    Our room was very nice.  The listed view is inter-coastal/city (1 br condo) but we could see everything.  All needed items were there (towels/utensils/etc).  The only real problem was the light in the shower was out.  Not a big deal but is a detail that could be improved.

    Maid service the next day was very early and subsequent days we had to call to get it.  Leave a couple bucks to ensure you get plenty of towels and everything is nice.  Went to the pool and it was excellent.  People were friendly, service by Sarah was attentive and entertaining.  Water was excellent.  Drinks were a little pricy but worth it.

    Went to Bliss Spa.  Very nice.  Especially Sam for facial and Mary Luz for nails.  

    Last night there stopped into the bar before bed (it was Sunday) and it was somewhat busy.  Rachel (I think) was great and met some entertaining and friendly people.

    Here is where things kindof went south.  The hotel had lost power on one of its towers, which included my room.  When I found out I ended up waiting 45 minutes at the front desk for someone to be available (this was at 1am and 5 hours after the outage occurred so not really a good reason for the wait).  An aside, I would have expected an electrical issue to be fixed in 5 hours since the issue had to have been a single point issue.  When they were available I was moved to a much smaller room, and they offered to pay for the night.  This is clearly the least they can do in this situation and I think they could provide more (especially if the room is not equivalent).  The point of the W is to offer a flawless experience, not just a room, and you pay for it.  Moving rooms in the middle of the night to an inferior room destroys that experience.  I would be understanding of electrical problems, for the most part, but it should have been handled better.

    The next morning, I get my bill and instead of providing the promised free night, they charged me $800 (several times what I had been paying for the better room).  In addition they charged me for valet every day although I had no car (Ft. Lauderdale is small and taxis are cheap and plentiful + no driving!).  All in all, they had overcharged me by about $1000.  I had to trek down to the front desk and straighten it out, and they have yet to fix it properly.  

    Mostly this was a nice stay and exceeded service expectations, but a couple of glaring issues moved the rating from 5 to 3.  Handling issues is important for hotels.  If the outage had been handled well, I could have still given 5.

    A note, I like the see through glass showers.  Sexy, but definately not for children/families.

    Just got back from my 4th stay at the W and regret to say it's really starting to go down in quality.

    The place is in a great location, the design elements of the hotel & rooms were originally really cool and trendy.  Downside is you can really see the 'wear & tear' these days.  Believe me, this place was AWESOME...otherwise I wouldn't have kept coming back - BUT I regret to say this may have been my last time.

    Check-in was smooth for us, the 'Living Room' area had a great bartender who made FABULOUS drinks, the pool is always a scene on weekends and was really comfortable....BUT...the rooms really are getting worn down and the maid service was NON EXISTENT!  2 days in a row, the maids didn't come...we called the front desk, let them know and they said someone would come while we were out to dinner and they'd let the manager know.....well.....no one ever came and no manager ever contacted us.  We had to call down AGAIN for towels which took over 20 minutes for them to bring up.

    I really want to 'STILL' love this hotel, but I'm really disappointed in the condition of the rooms, the maid service & the lack of response from the management team.  It was 4th of July weekend and I know they were busy, but dirty rooms are never acceptable and when your at the pool/beach all day and want to shower before going out at night...TOWELS are a must!  Very disappointing.  : (

    One positive for the ladies...Bliss Spa treatments were awesome! Had the carrot sesame body treatment & triple oxygen facial....very pricey, but very worth it!

    Great concept hotel with trendy and hip elements throughout - from the design to the dining/bar/workout options.  Rooms at this W have a white stuffed alligator on the bed and a see-through shower (so don't plan on coming here with anyone other than someone you  want to have watch you bathe).  The pool is open 24 hours, has a beautiful infinity edge and has lines of glass in the bottom that allow you to see into the lobby - cool.  Great views of the Ft. Lauderdale beach.  Bliss spa didn't have any availability the day we checked in - that was the only disappointment.

    Spend over 50 days a year in hotels.  I can clearly state, I will NOT be back to this W.  The entire Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) may never see my SPG card again.  Preferred guest does NOT exist at this location. The Living Room acts as if they are doing a favor to serve you a drink.  The help is good-looking but needs to learn how to serve.  I needed to ask for martini's SEVERAL times before being served.  The help must be extremely wealthy or be looking for Mr. or Mrs. SugarPants, but barmaids and servers they are NOT !  Sad for the W, many of the groups of people there were NOT impressed by the service.  The Bliss Spa was a saving grace to my stay.  But NOT enough to bring me back, sorry W, you get a 1 !

    My first time ever staying at a W and man was i impressed! I had a great view of the ocean, a comfy bed, and super polite staff! Andrew checked me and even got me to sign up for their rewards program! I got there before 3 and was so happy my room was ready and since I signed up for the rewards I got upgraded to the 20th floor! The only kind of weird thing is the shower has a glass wall so make sure to keep the blinds closed while showering! and be comfortable with the person you're staying with if you don't stay solo like i did. I realized after being at the beach all day that I had forgotten my phone charger in my car so I went to Valet and told them my situation and they said no problem where's it at?! So i explained where it was and while the guy went to grab it Jay from BROOKLYN went and got me a water. ( how sweet!!  ) I needed that water too since I had been at the beach and drinking Margaritas from Fat Tuesdays all afternoon. I seriously loved all of my 24 hours spent at W and can't wait for my return! Also the pool! OMG the pool is so badass. YOu can see into it from the Living Room and it has a staircase in the middle of it that leads you from the living room to the pool deck. The gift shop also has GREAT jewelry and its less than retail :). I bought an Amrita Singh necklace for 138 including tax when the necklace retails at 150 w/out tax.

    totally worth it

    the -30 and -31 numbered rooms are the best other than the suites of course.

    the shower is walled in by glass so you can shower and look out to the ocean. the balcony doors both open making practically the entire wall open to walking out on the balcony.

    they couldnt offer me a 4pm checkout so i had to leave by noon. you cant request the late checkout until the day of, so plan accordingly.

    there is no overnight parking in the area that isnt comparable to the hotel. its valet only and its 31.80 which is a drag, but suck it up and do it cause theres nothing else available.

    pool. jacuzzi. oceanfront. 5 or 6 blocks from starbucks.  

    i had a huge amazing cute stuffed alligator doll awaiting me on my bed when i arrived. nice touch, W. nice touch.

    Our daughter treated me for my birthday week 5 days at the W hotel in Ft Lauderdale.
    Here's a picture of our tv on espn on day 3. Despite repeated calls to the front desk for service the tv remains in the same frozen pixel fixated pose   Tonight we were told the problem was the tower. Really!!  Every day we have to get our "access cards" reissued. Fun especially when you are caught in the elevator. Whatever service resulted in setting up golf for 3 at a public course that cost more than the published rate. And oh by the way no clubs to rent that would fit the females in our playing party.  And the 4:00 check in time. Forget about it. At 4:40 our room was ready after we went and asked. Took us almost an hour for the "whatever" staff to bring the luggage. The bright spot.  Well of course it is the valet service.  Impeccable. And for the 2 bedroom suite with kitchen. Stocked with 1 pan. 3 plates 2 bowls 1 knife and a wine opener. Couldn't ask for more!  And 1 chair on each tiny balcony. Would I recommend this hotel to you?  Just kidding.

    I have been fortunate in my life to travel frequently.  I've been overseas and across the country and have stayed in a bevy of hotels.  Some nice, some not so nice, and on the short list of spectacular ones, I will now be adding the W.

    Every single member of their "talent" was pleasant and easy to work with which was helpful in planning my company's yearly meeting.  They provided nothing but help and sincerity.

    The food was delicious and stood out as top quality.  They offer a gorgeous steak house and a swanky bar but nothing in between so if you're looking for casual dining, you have to go off the property.

    The rooms were clean, modern, and created exactly what you'd hope for in a hotel room--a comfortable and clean place to rest your head while you're traveling.  And they do it in style.

    I rented it here as part of my graduation gift to myself.  Although I only stayed one night, it was awesome.  The minute you walk into the hotel you know if have walked in to an upscale hotel.  

    My room was AMAZING.  It had a balcony with an ocean front view.  The bathroom had windows so that you can see the view as you shower.  My first thought was "this is a great honeymoon place."  

    You can rent here and never leave your hotel.  There is a lounge and restaurant downstairs.  The pool was beautiful and it has a full bar.

    There are pool tables free of charge.  And the tables around the hotel all have games like Tic Tac Toe and Chess.

    The W will see me again.  :)

    This is a Great hotel. The service at this hotel is top notch. As you walk in the hotel it smells amazing and the decor is really up to date witouth trying too hard. The walk to the pool is pretty cool because you basically walk up to the pool from the bottom of the pool(you'll get what i mean when you go threre..lol..). the drinks at the pool bar are ok. Management didn't mind us being at the pool late at night as long as we were not too loud which was really cool. drank the night away in the pool and hot tub. after the pool went up to sleep on the most amazing bed ever. it is really the best bed i have ever slept on. all in all this is one hotel to stay at and experience.

Kitchen and Laundry in the room, just can't beat..it was hard for me to leave the room, I felt so at home. The pool area was fun, had an ehh dj but was relaxing and packed! Can't wait to return...

    This hotel has it all. From the moment you arrive, you are greeted by valet and personnel that will take you to the front desk to check in.  I arrived 4 hours prior to check in, and they didn't fuss, gave me a room with an ocean view and told me to contact them if I needed anything.  The pool is amazing and the gym will get the job done. There is a shopping center within walking distance if you decide to venture output side of the hotels restaurant.

    I might be biased because my room had the most amazing view possible, but this looked like it was straight out of a magazine.

    rooms are fun and the bathroom shower glass wall is playful and unique.  the service is unparalleled.  I called Whatever/Whenever for several items and they were so incredibly friendly each time and delivered what was requested in such a short time frame.

    Security, Keith, was maybe the most friendly person encountered there, he showed me how to use the safe in my room and genuinely seemed to want my trip to be great so he asked several times if there was anything else I needed during my stay and if he could be of assistance.

    Great hotel, beautiful views, amazing service--what more can you ask for?

    REVIEW W/HOTEL (Bliss Spa below):
    Nice hotel, but extremely overpriced when considering the cost versus cheap elements throughout the hotel - rooms and otherwise. It's unfortunate, but classics like the Ritz seem to continue to prevail when paying the same/close/oddly at times, even more, seeking a more "current" high-end hotel/amenity experience. The pluses are easily seen/felt, but the negatives are as well, including the over-abundant staff stating they wish to meet every need/desire, but often fail to follow through in earnest!  This requires something unnecessary and annoying, which is less about money and more about respect/consideration - excessive tipping to cover the multiple staff at specific points in your stay that visibly exceed the norm. One could do with much fewer car/luggage attendees, especially when one is paid - heftily - who claims to handle the delivery of luggage, and another shows up with it in the room. Seriously? One small example of a frequent annoyance.

    The main issue at the W-Hotel (@least Fort Lauderdale) is the attempt at telling you how wonderful the experience is, without actually providing it. The entire hotel, bar, and restaurant areas are far too dimly lit, even during the day time. It is a constant complaint heard by guests. What are they hiding?!?!  I assume it is some of the inexpensive furniture/accessories that are shockingly low quality. No joke-if you sit outside at Steak954 after sundown, forget about reading the menu, seeing your food, or god forbid your date/partner. Maybe this is a service provided for many who prefer not to look too close?!

    The rooms feel very cheap, even the so-called upgraded rooms - we paid for "one upgrade" and were supposedly given a "second upgrade" to a "Whatever Room". They've somehow told/convinced visitors this is something special, which it certainly is not at all. Basically you may as well visit an Ikea store and you'd see the best of what the W claims to provide in their "luxury" suites. The rooms contain poor pocket doors, pathetically inexpensive furniture, and lack even a simple coffee pot one can expect at a Hampton Inn. The TV cable/digital TV is so slow its unbearable. They charge for EVERY LITTLE THING!  It's sad and disappointing to be raked over the coals for basic TV and bottled water in a room that costs over $400 a night for, with no extra anything-even a pillow. The beds are not comfortable and the entire suite sparse and cheap.

    The staff are helpful and nice, despite the undeniable focus on tip generation beyond that expected at a high-end hotel. I know everyone says-I tip well...but, well, I tip WELL! So it pains me to feel hit up more than necessary, because I recognize how the system works and that these, usually wonderful, folks need tips to survive. There's enough to do to focus on specific tasks for customers, without all swarming to the same one for a small thing. I blame the hotel, not the staff!

    Don't expect to go to your room and knock on the door for your hotel-visiting partner to let you in, either. If you forget your key-you can't even go to the floor, unless by some miracle another guest has their key and already selected your floor. Ugh!

    Ritz Carlton-you do indeed remain one of those hotels that I too am going to spend a good amount of money in, but fail to feel as though it is being suckered out of me.  I am most looking forward to the high-end service and furniture/amenities, along with basic, humble respect and consideration. Oh, yes-and being able to actually see inside the hotel, rooms, and restaurants - nothing to hide, there's no need to do so.

    REVIEW BLISS SPA (altho the star rating is primarily for the hotel & overall experience, of which the spa was a small part-maybe 3 stars itself):
    The Bliss Spa is nice. I've been a BlissWorld.com customer for years. Visiting was a natural pleasure for me and I was primed to have a good experience.
    The staff are nice, but not terribly attentive/professional at the front desk. The salon staff talented and attentive and I enjoyed the services overall, however over-priced they were for what I received. The facial wasn't quite the best-but the aesthetician was extremely nice and it was more about the Bliss-service, not her skillset, which left me not eager to return for another facial.  The pedicure was one of the best I've had, primarily due to the niceness and attentiveness of the "nail stylists". Feet never so smooth in my life, with the add-on callus remover treatment. I bought a diamond tool they sell (bought online @bliss, probably offer in store though), which does the same thing. The chairs are not comfortable though. No massage, but that's fine. They are deep seated and being just over 5 foot, I had to put pillows behind me. It was pricey, but I returned for another being local, even when not staying at the hotel. Not a regular thing I will do, but if convenient I'd do more nail services at any bliss spa.

    The W Fort Lauderdale.... they need an award of some sort, which they probably already have.. But in one word .. SEXY!
    Service from the valet to the front desk to the maids.. EXCELLENT.
    It's a grown up hotel. Very modern, very chic. Don't go expecting cheap prices, it's not a motel. $30 for parking is fine.
    The see thru shower, does 2 things... Its sexy for couples and it prevents friends from sharing a room and cheating the hotel.
    The hotel is great for a weekend getaway. The bars, lounges and restaurants in the hotel are top notch and first class.. Great service, great views, great food and great drinks.
    Again it's a hotel for the young at heart and in my opinion not great for kids.

    I had a great stay for the most part, really a fabulous hotel and great location!!!

    I only had 2 issues which were big, but being all about service I'd just like to call them out.

    Sat. when we returned to our room at 430ish pm, it still had not been attended.  we had left the room at 9am so there was ample time to finish it. i called front desk and they were very kind and alerted the housekeeping staff immediately.  we left the room and came back and it was done finally, but they also didn't refill our towels, which was fine, we had 1 that we shared, also our bar of soap was not refilled for our sink b/c my husband used it for the shower so we needed one for the sink area.  It's just little
    details that i expect from such a fabulous hotel like the W.  

    My husband wanted steak 954 ceviche to eat b/c it was to die for.  he asked the pool staff for it, and she said that she couldn't help but to try whatever whenever b/c they were not affiliated.  Which i do understand that, but it would have been very easy for her to just dial and assist us with it because she was not busy at all, She could of kindly said I'll call and have it del. to the pool area but you will need to pay for it separately.  Steak 954 is the restaurant downstairs from the W.  Either way my husband ordered it, but thought the waitress could help as she was really not doing a lot the whole time but standing there and really only waiting on us.  

    Other than that i LOVE W hotels and would certainly keep staying at them b/c they are clean, fun and usually provide excellent service and I'm all about that :-)!  

    Thank you and can't wait for my next stay in NY in a couple of wks.

    Nice hotel.  Great location right on the beach.  Rooms are comfortable and clean.  As with most W hotels, parts of the bathroom are open to the room.  The hotel setup is alittle odd - you have to take 2 elevators to get to your room.  Kinda of a pain.  Not to much in walking distance, but cab options available.

    Let me start out by saying that this hotel is very beautiful. The decor throughout is awesome; indoor waterfalls, modern deco all over, granite and slate, as well as the glass bottom pool.

    When we checked in, we arrived early. The room wasn't ready, as expected, but the people at the front desk were nice enough to give a key that got us to the pool as well as the gym. We went up to the pool to take a look around. Beautiful people, girls in bikin's and shorts walking around serving drinks and plenty of good "people watching" material. An hour after we were there, we received a phone call letting us know that our room was ready.

    Walking in to the room you, we were stunned. The view from the balcony was wonderful. It seems that every room at this hotel has an ocean view. The stuffed alligator on the bed was a nice touch. The room was amazing at first sight, but upon further inspection, we found some issues. The floor was very dirty; long dark hairs, sandy and very slippery. There were chips of paint missing around the door frame, and the peek-a-boo glass window on the shower had a bit of lime/rust/mildew on it. Our toilet seat was broken, and the water in the toilet always seemed dirty (slightly yellow after every flush).

    The pool was fun, as previously stated, but trying to find a lounge chair to sun bathe on was nearly impossible. If you want to hang out by the pool and relax, make sure you show up early to stake out your spot. Also, the guests are of the younger "Jersey Shore" crowd. You'll find a bunch of meat-heads that just want to fist pump and drink...a lot.

    This hotel is very proud of their alcohol. So proud that they feel 2 bloody mary's should cost $24. If you plan on drinking alcohol here, don't plan on keeping it cheap.

    The weekends here are nice. Seeing all the people that think they are something special is pretty entertaining. The clubs (Whiskey Blue, The Living Room, and the pool) are very posh and full of "The Beautiful People". Getting a drink at these places isn't as hard as you'd think, but its probably because everyone there isn't interested in blowing a house payment at the bar.

    The DJ at Whiskey Blue was horrible. That's really all I can say about her. Just terrible. The DJ upstairs in The Living Room was much better and wasn't playing the music that he wanted to hear, but rather the music everyone wanted to hear.

    All of the staff here, aside from the people at the front desk, were awesome and very helpful. The bartenders at the pool, the bartenders in The Living Room and Whiskey Blue were awesome. If you're looking for something to do or wondering where something is, don't go to the concierge desk; head to the Valets. They know everything about the place and are more than willing to help you.

    All and all, the pictures on the site are a bit misleading. At first site, the place is amazing, but the longer we stayed, the more annoyed we got. I mean for a hotel that charges $300/night, you'd think they could afford some better toilet paper and to put a coffee maker in every room, but I guess like the government, budget cuts have to come from somewhere.

    If you do want coffee every morning, you can either pay the $14 for a french press full of wholesome goodness, or ask to have a coffee maker brought up to your room for no charge. We found out about the coffee maker after the room service server brought up our coffee.

    We didn't try Steak 954, because after talking to some other guests, they said it was "just goodish" but have had way better out on the town.

    If you're not a fan of Techno, you'll hate the music played throughout the lobby and by the DJ at the pool.

    The hotel is in a great location for daytime fun and nightlife. We spent more time away from the hotel than near it. Great places to eat: Rocco's Tacos (everything here is amazing), Sangria/RockBar/Route66 (all the same place but a few different things on the menu), and Asia Bay (some of the best sushi I have ever had in my life).

    Everything is within walking distance. No need to rent a car. If you really need to get across town the cabs are reasonable and very clean. I lost my iPhone in a cab, and had it back the next day, thanks to the find my iPhone app and the very friendly cab service.

    Final thoughts: If you've got the money to blow and want to feel like you're in an episode of Nip/Tuck, this is the place for you. If you want something with a really chilled out place with reasonable prices, try somewhere else. We probably won't be staying here again.

    Oh and one last tip, if you're a smoker, DO NOT smoke in the room. It's a $200 fee. You can close the balcony doors and just smoke out there.

    Whatever, Whenever. You know you're in for a great time when the front desk tells you to "Enjoy your Experience" instead of "Enjoy your Stay". W in Fort Lauderdale is a hotel geared towards the younger and hip crowd. We were blessed with a wonderful wedding gift from a good friend which allowed us to stay for a couple of nights right after the party and we had an amazing time. The rooms are fantastic, the pillows and bedding are amazing, we had a nice balcony with ocean and inter coastal views, an oversized tub, beautiful shower. Everything is done in impeccable taste.

    We tried a nice breakfast the next morning, with a frittata, roasted tomatoes, and grilled asparagus, chicken sausage, pancakes, scrambled eggs  and the most amazing roasted potatoes I've EVER had, with coffee and tea, freshly squeezed orange juice with the works. All had on the awesome balcony with a nice breeze. That's not just a breakfast, it's a memory that I won't soon forget. At night we made sure to test out the W's slogan and ordered a banana split which is completely off the menu. They sure did deliver. Raspberries, strawberries, chocolate sauce, just awesome!

    They have two pools actually. The crazy party pool with the glass bottom that has an obnoxiously loud DJ at all times and the almost hidden from view, smaller infinity-ish pool with a spa to relax and chill out. I recommend the latter, possibly rent a cabana if you'd like.

    The location is also great, only a short walk away from beach place, and a bunch of restaurants to try out, and steps away from the beach. Just lovely. We're coming back soon hopefully just for kicks, it's a little pricey but definitely worth it.

    I came to the W Hotel in Fort lauderdale and I came across a small piece of heaven. It was GORGeOUS!!! The staff was really nice. I booked a standard room and upon check in the staff member upgraded my room for a few bucks more a night for a suite. When I got to my suite, my mouth literally dropped . Everything was white. The bed, sheets, furniture, floors, sliding doors throughout the room, with clear sheer curtains. Two words I thought of when I walked in the bathroom... Nirvana and Serenity! Again sliding doors throughout the bathroom as well, gorgeous tub in the middle and private toilet room and a private shower. Ocean view was remarkable. The pool was a Blessing. It was beautiful. Whiskey bar in the hotel a plus. Decent night life in the hotel. Great  shops on the strip. No nightlife on the strip. Very college/surfer feel on the strip. This Resort is Heaven!! A++++

    I think this place has it all.
    Smart layout, action filled nightlife, a guest lounge with pool tables, fabulous restaurants. I am impressed by the look, feel, quality, and service.  

    The W is a trendy hotel, and some of the rooms have the most outstanding balcony's and views.  Ask and you may get one.  Everything about this hotel screams sexy getaway.  

    Check in, spend the day beach and pool side, relax in the afternoon, dance in the evening, sit bon fire style in one of the courtyards, have a romantic hotel stay, and get down stairs and enjoy brunch or breakfast.

    As a designer, this place has all the bells and whistles to accomodate anything, and if you appreciate fine interior finishes and details, this spot is one to admire.

    I have no complaints with any of the above. Our room was ocean view with a balcony! Food / drinks were excellent. The service and facilities were impeccable.

    The only reason this is not a 5 star rating is due to the hotel location. The hotel was too far away from the main strip that had the stores, bars & restaurants. It was a solid 10 minute walk. Then again for two girls who went to haagen dazs multiple times per day this probably isn't a bad thing.

    Good: stayed in one of the condos for a week ($700 a night or $188 if you are a Starwood Platinum member) and enjoyed having a kitchen to make our own breakfast/lunch and to store evenign leftovers.  Also enjoyed having a washer/dryer to do our laundry prior to having a pile to tend to when we got home.

    Great service from pool staff and Bobby (management team).

    NICE: Free Wi fi for starwood platinum members.. otherwise $14.99 a day or free in the 'living room' area.

    Bad: Arrived at hotel at 1:30 and had to wait until 5pm to get into our room. We checked in on Sunday of Memorial Day weekend and apparently the room got TRASHED the night before and it took four hours to clean. I was expecting to find used condoms, beer bottles etc when we entered the room but it was clean (GREAT and RELIEVED!)

    Not happy: didn't have any utensils for the kitchen and had to call whatever/whenever for assistance. had  a hard time with language barrier requesting a pan and measuring cups..Took him three tries but he eventually figured out what we needed.

    Miffed: Guess you can tip the pool boys to reserve a chair for you on busy days.. learned that AFTER we came down to the pool at 9 am and the majority of the chairs were 'reserved."  it's nice to know the 'game' beforehand.

    Refreshing: complimenary green apples at the gym, checkin area and pool along with fruit unfused ice water as well. Nice touch!

    Odd: We were there for a week and the Whiskey Blue bar (inside the hotel) was a bust... no action.. no posers. no wannabees... Unless the bar started getting wild after midnight which could've been the case.  Husband had to go to the :"living room" bar to get the port he wanted. AFter a few days the bartender at Whiskey Blue remembered and gave him two glasses... complimentary.. which was not expected but NICE

    Overall a fun hotel for hip people.. we'll see you again next year!

    Valet lost my car keys, The hotel de activates your room key if you exceed your incidentals hold.  Which was only $150 and I blew past that at the 954 restaurant.  To apologize they sent us a fruit basket covered in fruit flies.  I travel for work staying in 5 star hotels over 100 nights a year.  This was by far the worst experience I have ever had in my 14 years of traveling.  Stay away, goto the Hilton

    Hard to decide between the 3 and 4 starts here.

    Certainly a quality upscale hotel.  Bedding was nice and balcony off of the room had great views for us.  Staff at the front desk, valet, bar and restaurant typically went out of their way to be helpful.

    When checking in I mentioned I was a Starwood Member.  Rather than asking for the number the  front desk "Alison?" looked us up.  Nice touch.

    When leaving we told the valet our stay was over.  "Can I give you directions to the airport"  "Anyplace you need to stop on the way?"  

    Very nice "W  Hotel" GM your staff are great!

    Rooms are on the small side.  
    Didn't get our paper daily as promised.
    Despite the above staff service at the pool while friendly was rather slow.  This was not a busy day either.

    And it is SPENDY!  I know it's the W and all but I don't get why upscale hotels charge so much for Wifi and others allow it for free.  Sure it's available in the lounge but not everyone wants that Starbucks vibe when working on a computer.  If i did......I'd go to Starbucks.

    Parking is $32/day.  Most hotels in the area charge for parking but with the price you pay with all of these add on's ruins some of the enjoyment.  Makes you feel like a lemon they are just trying to squeeze as much as possible until there is nothing left.

    yea...........I'll say 3.5.........

    My wife and I stayed at the W Fort Lauderdale from October 4-7 for our 3rd anniversary weekend. We found the hotel through Expedia. We have always like the W brand and felt comfortable staying at any of the W properties and we were not disappointed with our visit to the W Fort Lauderdale! We were greeted by Mr. Ryan Thomas at the front desk and upon check in told him it was our anniversary weekend. Mr. Thomas went out of his way to ensure that we had a great weekend! He upgraded our room to a wonderful ocean view and gave us access to a beautiful pool cabana while our room was being cleaned. We felt like celebrities! There was threat of rain prior to our arrival due to a hurricane in the Gulf, but we didn't get any rain and had a fabulous anniversary weekend. We had a great time at the W Fort Lauderdale thanks to Mr. Ryan Thomas and look forward to our next visit! Ryan exemplifies the meaning of service and hospitality. His thoughtfulness made our weekend very special. Ryan is a great ambassador for the Starwood brand.

    This hotel is amazing!  I love W Hotels and this one stands out.  The rooms are a great size.  I just came from south beach Miami at the Delano and the rooms were so small in south beach.  My bathroom at this hotel is the size of my entire room in South Beach.  The tub is so swanky and cool.  Great walk in shower.  Room 811 has a nice partial view of the ocean and large walk out patio so you can enjoy the view.  I will definitely be back.  Great hotel, friendly staff, beautiful rooms.

    My stay at the W was in a word....Luxurious.

    This hotel is bad ass! Everything about the service, from front desk receptionist, the room service and especially the concierge's service is spectacular. They really go out of there way to give their customers a 5 star experience.

    Yes its expensive but if you want to treat yourself to a job well done...splurge...live a little and stay at the W.

    Beautiful hotel- ocean front! This is the 2nd time coming here and 1st time the experience was not great.

    We wanted to have a nice night dancing and having drinks at the lobby bar because we heard they had really good berry mojitos. They were a little to strong but delicious. The bar over all was very packed. It was very annoying to try to get a drink there.

    The music was great!! we were right by the DJ and the atmosphere was very cool. The outdoors section was amazing! They had a bond fire and lots of seating around. You can hear the waves. Very relaxing.

    Really enjoyed a fun night celebrating and dancing the night away with my friends. Definitely coming back again!

    Great hip hotel right across the street from the beach in Ft Lauderdale. Staff was friendly, helpful, and the oversized rooms are fashioned in typical up-market W style.

    The best part of the hotel though by far is the pool. It's one of the largest glass bottom pools I've ever seen. There is a glass enclosed staircase that goes down through the center of the pool, leading to the lounge/bar below. It's a trip to watch swimmers from the side and below!

    Biggest downer was the parking fee....valet is the only option and it'll set ya back $30 a day!

    Can't comment too much on value as I used star points, but I would stay here again.

    -1 Star for the Lady who checked us in and Authorized 2 of my Credit Cards. In fact, It's still pending on 1 of the cards right now and was placed on the 17th. For some reason she told me the card I originally wanted to use was Declined...So I called my Credit Card Company and they told me that it was Authorized. I told the company how I had to re-use another CC so they took off the Authorization...but when it was time to check out, they had no reference of the other credit card they authorized and put it back to the one they said was declined.

    Staff: Friendly and at your Service....from Valet, to when I got locked out of my rooms since our keys weren't working and my boyfriend fell asleep so well on those beds he couldn't hear me call...One of the guy workers came up and opened my door and later brought me new keys.

    Spectacular Room was pretty darn Spectacular...Love the Peek-A-Boo Glass Window Shower door, Room Layout and Balcony. I even wanted one of those darn Alligators that were on the bed..but when I found out they were like $50, nevermind...LOL!

    Pool Area: Cabana was a lil pricey to rent out..$150 for all day. We were checking out noon that morning we went to the pool so, it wouldn't have been worth it. Hot Tub was just perfect temperature. Pool was freezing cold tho. Love  the set-up and even the hotel purple beach towels.

    We were there only for a night, but loved it. Would definitely come again! Our 2nd W Hotel Experience..1st one was n San Diego, which we loved but this one was way far better than our 1st experience....We actually got to use the pool and it wasn't closed. Wish it wouldv'e been more like the Fort Lauderdale Sheraton Beach Hotel tho...Like literally right on the beach not across the street.

    I love the W's. They make this old man feel like he is hip and young again.

    This specific W is a real beaut. It faces the Atlantic Ocean- which is nice cuz it's a jump, hop, and skip across the street. So you can slather on  your sunscreen (it better be 70 or higher) and go play in the waves.

    If the ocean is not your thing, then the W has two pools. And what is nice about these pools is that each one has a different personality. One has the DJ, and the girls with lowcut tops that show almost all their boobies, and tan stallions walking like brave soldiers. I didn't particularly like that side.

    The other side seems hidden and out of the way. It was a fairly quiet oasis from the JerseyShore-esque hub bub of the other pool. Plus, i met a few nice people while I was on that side. And we played billiards later in the lounge -which looks gorgeous but can get pulsatingly loud as the evening progresses.

    My main complaint about this specific W were the see-through showers. I don't want people (ie: friends, family, even significant others) viewing me washing and scrubbing my no-no zones.  

    Just a thought... You can tell me to shove it. But it is how I feel. Other than that see-through shower, I really enjoyed my stay at the W in Ft Lauderdale.

    We were just at the W hotel for a family reunion and it was fabulous.  We had two beautiful rooms....totally cool view of the ocean and intercoastal waterway...We could have just sat on the deck for two days and been happy.  Food excellent and the service so good...everyone on the staff was so friendly and nice....pool outstanding and entertainment was too.....go there and skip the other hotels...this was a totally great experience.  Phil H

    This is a nice hotel.... especially if you are 30 or younger and ready to hit the clubs or bars in Ft. Lauderdale.. the lobby here seems really popular on a weekend evening.  The hotel itself is pretty much what you expect from a W Hotel.... a bit worn... but a nice size room and basically clean.  Service was very friendly.

    We stayed here for 2 nights to end our honeymoon. We had a great time, Stefanie at the front desk sent us up a bottle of champagne and strawberries that was unexpected and a great surprise! We had a great room, the cozy corner room with a huge giant balcony and perfect view of the beach/ocean. We could watch the sunrise from bed each morning. We ate the first night at steak 954, its on the first floor and the next day had drinks by the pool. The pool area is amazing as well, only things I think that could make it better would be to keep the pool open past dusk and have a coffemaker in the rooms. Otherwise its a really great hotel, of our trip it was the best in Florida that we've ever stayed at or I've stayed at..we'll be back for sure!

    If you want a burger at the pool $16, if you want fries with that another $8 if you want a shot of Jack Daniels you get exactly an 1 1/2 oz (2-sip) pour not more or less $12...  if you want to vallet it $32/day... great location, pretty darn good service but it's no the RItz Carlton service. Gym was good, pool was nice and servers were very friendly and attentive. We moved here from another property (Pelican) as we needed better internet connectivity and it has cost us a pretty penny but was the only available local. I really don't think we'll stay here again. Just too spendy for what you get in return. Oh if you want a drink at Whiskey Blue, look for waitress, then stand in line and get ignored...

    At the managers cocktail party, Raul Lopez, who said he was the manager, asked me to let him know if there was anything I needed.

    Soon thereafter, I needed towels at the beach area, and asked the whatever wherever desk, but received none. I emailed Mr. Lopez twice about things I "needed" and received no reply.

    Overall, the hotel seemingly was not built to high standards. Floors in the room are laminate; bathrooms are concrete; ceilings are textured. Much is simply low quality construction. Pool showers are not temperature controlled.

    It seems as if the hotel chain has given up on this property. Much is in disrepair. Pools have chunks missing from their floors. The phone in my in room did not work properly. Siding doors to the bedrooms in my suite could not be locked. One sliding door would not work until an engineer worked on it for hours. He said it was typical. The room's stereo would not work until an engineer came to the room to input a code. The engineer said that was the hotel's system. My suite's door to the exterior terrace would not always fully close and was one floor above some type of noisy children's play area, even though i was promised a quiet room. The toilet paper holder was broken. Many of the pool chaise cushions were ripped or stained. There was often a problem with the elevators and I had to use the stairs. The bed linens were not always changed daily. The kitchen came with two poorly maintained, low quality pans; there was not one pot.

    And, when I arrived, my room but not ready by the stated check in time and i was told, incorrectly, three times, that it would be just another half hour.

    The west pool had no service, or towels.

    This was not the vacation I was expecting. And, it was not inexpensive.

    Worst stay EVER!  Considering I've stayed in 3rd world fleabags (with prostitutes, chickens and outdoor bathrooms) that's really saying something.

    This was the only hotel we could book on a busy weekend.  We were entering the US from Miami and I couldn't bear six more hours on a plane back to California.

    We tried to check in at seven pm and were told by the hotel "insider" Tokyo that our room had to be inspected and that it would be a half hour.  Not what I want to hear but fine, we can sit on the terrace and have a drink.  We didn't get into the room for an hour and then another long wait for the valet (despite our telling them upon arrival we would be leaving shortly) which made us very late for dinner.

    The room was an unacceptable mess.  There was a cigarette lying on the table with the Bose remote.  This was supposed to be a nonsmoking room, I know this because there were three pre printed post its on the dirty bathroom mirror warning me about a 200 dollar fine for smoking.  

    The lovely sliding glass doors from the bathroom to the balcony were covered in palm prints.  I don't even want to know what went down to cause the big smudgy smeared body marks between the handprints....  I should probably be grateful the dirty window blocked the view of the brownish yellow water that filled the bright white bathtub.  Brown Florida water isn't really the W hotels fault but maybe they should consider different lighting in the bathrooms because the tub looked disgusting.

    So I won't complain too much about the eighteen dollar Matt Damon movie I watched on tv or the thirtyone dollar and eighty cent valet charge.  I won't even complain about the eight dollar Fiji water.  I will complain about a poorly stocked mini bar and the attempt to charge us forty dollars for whatever the previous occupants ate/drank.

    I will mention the fruit bowl they sent up was filled with inedible waxy unripe fruit some of which was covered in a sticky unidentifiable substance.  

    The icing on the cake was when an employee used his passcode to burst into our room (without knocking!!!) to demand when we were going to check out. ( it was 3 pm we were supposed to leave at 4).  Abject apologies from the GM and a crapton of starwood points helped placate the raging beast but at the end of the day I'll never set foot in the W Fort Lauderdale ever again.

    I just wanted to provide feedback to the Haunted Hotel event this past Saturday.  This was the BEST Halloween party I've ever been to.  I'm familiar with the W FLL, as a friend of mine got married there, and I'm a frequent guest at BlissSpa.  But I didn't do the hotel any justice when it came to morphing the hotel for Halloween!  The W Hotel staff members provided an excellent location for a Haunted Hotel, overlooking the beach, plenty of areas to explore during the party, outdoor fire pit on balcony overlooking the ocean, the huge lounge with bar, 2 floors, cheap entrance fees.  Not to mention a GREAT crowd!  LOVE LOVE LOVED it, can't wait to sign up for next year!  The only thing I wish was cheaper were the drink prices, but even those I can't begrudge the hotel since getting in was really cheap!

    Two things I care most about at hotels are: cleanliness of hotel/room and comfort level of beds.  

    Beds were fine but rooms are nothing exceptional. Room and all general areas of hotel appeared to be very clean.

    For a W, thought the chaise/lounger cushions at the pool appeared a bit rough.  Saw at least two with bird feces, staff walked right past and left them out.  Some of the cushions had obvious wear: sunken in around where a person's rear end would rest.  A little faded. Towels were in decent shape.  

    Hot waitresses at the pool are very sweet and zero attitude was a real plus.

    Overall style of the hotel is fantastic, but don't look too closely at the details and you'll be just fine.  Lobby is gorgeous.  Pool is busy and decent...just needs some attention.  Didn't hit the bar...

    Happy to share my raving review of the W Fort Lauderdale...just a short taxi ride to Las Olas and a 15 minute drive from Ft. Lauderdale Int'l Airport.  A modern, clean, and fresh building located on Fort Lauderdale Beach/A1A. Friendly, polite, and helpful staff that will ensure you're comfortable, relaxed, and enjoying yourself. Stunning views from any balcony...actually from anywhere on premises.  You'll quickly discover that even the bathrooms are distinct! Private cabanas available on the sundeck boasts a pool that is simply sexy and the hot tub nearby- with a view of the sea- is hot fun.  Note you can fly in on your chopper as they have a helipad ready for your landing. The W offers several dining options on premises, bar/lounge areas, and nightclubs, all of which promise to be a good time with great sounds and some pretty people dancing the night away. I've enjoyed a bit of everything The W has to offer over several visits and it has been a wonderful experience on every occasion.

    36 W-Hotels in the world going to 50 in the next few years and I couldn't be happier! Do yourself a favor and become a member of SPG and start getting those points. Great locations, great hotel, very cool hip vibe always the center of all the action in whatever city your in.

    Fun fact: the W Fort Lauderdale has glass showers which overlook onto the bedroom with no curtain option!  Great for couples, might be interesting if traveling with friends.

    Stayed here for a weekend in one of the Cool Corner Rooms (2124) with a ridiculous wrap around balcony.  Loved the hotel and would definitely check it out again - loved the corner room and the balcony was great with loungers and dining table.  Honestly barely felt I had to leave the room.

    Ordered a burger by the pool and was disappointed - recommend ordering to your room.  Probably the same kitchen but was cheaper, better prepared and with sides (they charge for fries by the pool).

    We loved the W Hotel for a quick getaway and the hotel just felt comfortable and relaxing and the staff couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful.  

    The first day we rented a cabana by the pool to invite my father-in-law down to celebrate his 80th birthday.   With the help of Whatever, Whenever staff, balloons were picked up, a banner was put up and we had a nice lunch that felt really special and they just did it.  When a tip was offered, it was suggested that we give it to the pool staff and we did.  

    The pool was amazing - it was one of those pools where the water flowed over the edges and the view was spectacular as we were across the street from the beach and the ocean, the view was only of the ocean and the architect should be complimented, it was very, very cool.  The pool even had a DJ playing music that was just loud enough and kept the feel young, hip and fun.  

    When you arrive there are way too many valets there but the impression is pretty cool as they are friendly, fast and very attentive as are all staff in the hotel - and it feels authentic.  My favorite was when I was walking out to our car when we left and I saw through the frosted glass 2 attendants run to open the door, yes a little overkill but it was really cool.  

    The shower was the talk of our stay.  The first night we were kind of shocked at the window into the shower and showed our guests, shared on Facebook the indescribable show that this shower would create and then we just judged everyone we saw on whether they were "shower-worthy" and there were quite a few including our waitress at the pool who would have done that shower justice.  

    The second night we asked for Blackout curtains, we are over 50 :)  Not quite what you expect and they fell down three  times.

    We learned that the window of the Wonderful rooms in the rooms with Queen beds had shutters to cover the window, not the ones with the king beds.  Interesting...

    It was a great stay and we will go back, soon i hope.

    A beautiful hotel with a great location.  Amazing suites - some with ENORMOUS terraces over looking the ocean (I was lucky enough to party in one one night and it could have easily accommodated 100 people outside alone). The service is top notch like all W Hotels, and the vibe is chic, young and beautiful but not stuffy.  Love the pool bar to have cocktails and mingle with new people.  Gorgeous location overlooking the Atlantic.  Also love Whiskey Blue the lounge downstairs, and Steak 954 - where they serve succulent Kobe beef!  A very nice place to stay right on the beach when in Fort Lauderdale - and if you are a local like me - a great place to come for the afternoon or evening.

    Decent W hotel on Ft Lauderdale beach. Rooms are updated and comfortable- however, do not recommend unless you are solo or here as a couple- the shower is completely open to the room so unless you're with someone you want to see you shower, don't stay here- your business partner might find it awkward. Also, while the hotel is beachfront and a short cab ride to the airport / cruise port, there's not a whole lot in walking distance, so plan on cabbing it or get a car ($30/night for parking)

    I had an amazing 3 nights and 4 days in the Fantastic Suite. BEST getaway recently.

    Very happy here.  I recently stayed at the comparably-priced "B Ocean" a little ways down the beach and the W is far superior in terms of amenities.  The gym is a miniature version of a "real" gym, the rooms are stocked with Bliss toiletries, and the pools and onsite restaurants are a big draw.  I was in room 2312, next to the elevators, and heard some mechanical humming fairly consistently but never noise from adjacent rooms.  The one downside here is the only free wireless internet is in the lobby.

    Perhaps a when it was brand new it was a nice hotel, but other than a nice ocean view this place kind of sucks.  I booked a cool corner room and took advantage of their concierge services.  I followed up several times including 2 hours before check in and they still screwed up.  I was planning on proposing and had made detailed arrangements, but apparently there was a miscommunication. ..bogus.  They messed up and sent me a cheap bottle of craps wine to appease me.  Their are no cushions on balcony chairs making balcony uncomfortable and useless.   This place really just sucked....waste of money.

    After recently staying at a W, I was pleasantly reminded of how amazing and wonderful these hotels are!!!!!! I slept like a baby for the first time in a week of my Fort Lauderdale/ Miami trip, the night I stayed here in one of their beach view suites. Everything about this hotel is cool and extremely comfortable. By far one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in on the Fort Lauderdale strip.

    FABULOUS!  Talk about HOT!  The W-Hotel combines comfort, luxury, sophistication, and class in a way that I rarely find even at the finest of establishments.  From the valet, hotel staff, wait staff, and the pool, there are far and few between that compare to the quality of customer service that is bestowed upon you at the W.  

    I checked-in for a stay-cation while on the other side of the property my cousin was hosting a surprise birthday party for her boyfriend.  I stayed in a standard room, and my cousin tented out one of the lavish condos that they have on the premises.  While the room was fabulous including a shower, and tub in the center of the room where you could look out onto the ocean the Condo was even more impressive.   The rooms were lavishly furnished with lush couches and tables and chairs.  Plenty of room to have at least 40 people for a private party.  

    Be sure to wake up early to get a spot by the pool.  When I went you needed to be a hotel guest in order to get into the pool area.  There was a bouncer at the door, and once you checked in received a bracelet to let you in and out.  By the time I got there, 11 am, there weren't any chairs left, but it didn't take long to get a seat.  The towels are super cute and purple.  The pool is like a fish tank and the view is amazing.  

    The lounge downstairs is very comfortable and serves drinks into the wee AM hours and has become a pretty popular night spot.

    We were only going to be staying here for one night.... I unfortunately was on the tail end of the flu and after our flight I was looking forward to crawling into bed and staying there.

    Pulling up to the W is where the magic started. The friendly valet greets you at your car, helps you figure out where you are going and gets you on your way. In our case up to the 4th floor for check in. First things we noticed is how good it smelled, the complimentary strawberry/orange water and the gorgeous lobby.

    Up to our room we went. At this point I was rather happy I was still a little illin' because with a room this pretty who wants to leave?!?! It didn't hurt that we had an amazing view of the pool and the beach. It also had the most comfortable hotel room bed ever and Bliss products.

    Later that night we ended up ordering room service (didn't see why we should leave the room) and while I stuck with the chicken noodle soup (homemade by the way) my sister indulged in other dishes and claimed it the best room service ever served.

    The next thing that we noticed was the "gift" shop at the W. The best freaking boutique ever stocked with plenty of local designers as well as international. I bought myself several treats and wanted more. Seriously one of the best shopping experiences I've had in a long time.

    We also, on the recommendation of one of the employees- had breakfast at Steak 954. It was a fantastic breakfast that we ate on the outside patio. Truly glorious.

    I think what makes W hotels stand above the rest is their customer service and employees. Yes their hotel is beautiful, many hotels are. But at this W everyone is gracious and kind and helpful. Literally everyone we came in contact with. Not a single person was pretentious which was what I was really kind of expecting. A few examples of outstanding service:

    Room service- We had to call and check on our order (they were over a half hour late delivering). The woman we spoke with was awesome, explained that they tried to call us (our phone wasn't hung up correctly) they were backed up with orders, but that because of the delay they were going to give us 40% off our bill. Wow thanks!

    Security- I left my coat in the closet of our room. I realized this after check out. Not only did they immediately go get the coat but they held it at the security office right by the valet so all I had to do was pull up and not hassle with running back in. The gentleman in the office even apologized that I had to come back to the hotel. Are you kidding? Any excuse to return!!

    The W is well known for contemporary beauty and sophistication.  This W is certainly beautiful but a fell a tad bit short.  The pool id beautiful, however they apparently let in locals that take up all the pool chairs not leaving any open for the paying customers.  
    The room we were given was very beautiful but did not have a working tub.
    I had an overall good time but they need to improve just a little bit in those areas.

    Pretty great hotel, location is outstanding! They have a really cool bar and lounge, and a nice pool area. However the valet staff and the concierge staff might need some extra training. It took them about 40 mins to get us a car to go out to dinner. (We weren't the only ones saying this) And be advised there is no coffee maker in the room and no ice on the floor, they want you to have them bring both to you, fine but it shouldn't take 30 mins then. Overall I liked it a lot and would consider a stay there again.

    1: despite assurances at time of booking, my room was not ready upon arrival and instead they offered me a sub par room. After my insistence, they offered the room I had booked originally but had to wait to have it ready. 2: Despite i was in the 20th floor, we could hear the drums banging and the base of a wedding party that was happening in the bottom floors. 3: the following morning we left the room at 9 am, only to return at 530 pm and finding our room undone, without clean towels soap or shampoo. When calling, the service operator,(whatever, whenever--??) she told us that we should not expect early room cleaning unless requested. Never heard that an hotel of your category had such a policy and that was in effect even after 530 pm. Housekeeping came to offer clean towels, only to find them soiled with black greasy spots on them as if they were used to clean the floor, the housekeeping representative said that she was sorry, that those towels were the only available and that they were understaffed.  
    4: fitness room is kept un clean, wo supplies.

    This place is not at all what I expected and perhaps that is the point.  We used Starwood points to book a couple of days after a cruise and were hoping for someplace nice near the beach.  What we got was a whole lot more.

    The decor of this hotel is very chic and non traditional. Almost (W)ierd. When we got to the front desk, we were checked in quickly.  With little fanfare, we were upgraded from a room with two queen beds to a palatial flat with two bedrooms, living room, full kitchen.  (W)ow.  

    The pool is awesome, the beach is right across the road and the staff is great.  No request has been denied.  The kids are playing scrabble provided by the hotel, the five year old is watching little mermaid - the hotel has the dvd, and my wife got a ride to the supermarket in a brand new Acura MDX driven by a hotel employee. Awesome!

    I suspect the food and spa are as trendy and good.  Just a whole Lotta wow from me so far.

    This is a pretty great hotel, and I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.  I was here for work for a few days last week.  The facilities, cleanliness, and service were all top notch.

    The only knock on them was that whenever there were thunderstorms (which was most of my stay, unfortunately; it also caused me to have to pay the $32/nt. parking rather than look for street parking), the high def TV channels would go out.  C'mon, when there's thunder and lightning outside, what else am I going to be doing but watching TV?  Oh, and I wasn't a fan of how COLD the a/c was.  Either I was warm in bed and wriggling out of the sheets, or the air was on and my arms were freezing.

    It seemed like not too many people knew about the smaller west pool, so check it out in the afternoon when the nicer east pool is in the shade.

    They charge for wifi in the room.

    Excellent hotel! I am staying here for a weekend getaway to Fort Lauderdale and booked this in a vacation package through southwest vacations and got a fantastic deal! I am so happy with this hotel. The staff is AMAZING- every single staff member that I've encountered here has been really nice and accommodating. They open doors for you, assist with carrying your luggage, and are willing to help you with ANYTHING! They're also super informative about the area! The overall cleanliness of the hotel and the room is great, and the decor is on point :) The beach is literally right across the street, and within walking distance there are lots of little eateries, shops, and even a mall! My favorite part would have to be the pool though. It is a beautiful (outdoor) infinity pool the fifth floor. There are tons of lounge chairs and couches and a poolside bar! The view of the OCEAN is spectacular too. They sometimes have a DJ who plays really really good music and everyone has a good time! Next to the pool, is the fitness center... It is so nice and they have a lot of exercise equipment in excellent condition! They also have apples, disposable headphones, and little refreshing towelettes for wiping off sweat available for people to use! I'm sure if I actually went to the gym I would love it even more! I have really been enjoying my experience here at the W Fort Lauderdale! I definitely recommend it to everyone :)

    Wow! Very impressed. Easily the best W property at which I've stayed (about 5-8) -- perhaps because this one has "resort" classification.

    Pretty good service across-the-board; great pool area; nice/spacious rooms -- most all with ocean views. Lots of comfortable space to lounge in the lobby area on the 4th floor. The whole place smelled good, was clean and still felt pretty new.

    I was staying here on business on 2 weeknights, though it seemed like most of the clientele were staying there on vacation. The only potential drawback (other than the W prices - $20 Internet and $14 cocktails) is a few odd things in the room design: the same lightswitch controlled the shower/sink/toilet areas, and with a peek-a-boo shower, you're bound to make the room bright if you turn on the "bathroom" light in the middle of the night. Also, the door to the toilet area in my room was frosted glass (not entirely opaque) which could potentially be a bit awkward if you're sharing a room.

    The beach is right across the street; though the pool area is so huge and spacious, it's equally inviting.

    I really like the W Hotels - they have a great feel, customer service is a big deal for them and they have a great attention to detail. Couple that with the fact they normally have a Bliss Spa attached - what's not to like?

    This place has a young feel to it, thumping music and a dark edgy look. The check in process was smooth and they welcomed me as a Starwood Preferred Guest - it was slick, courteous and professional.

    The hotel comprises (from what I saw) two buildings, the main building which had a restaurant, one pool, Whiskey Blue and the lobby. The other building was where the guest rooms were, it also has another pool and jacuzzi.

    The room was excellent and is definitely designed for a younger audience. The toiletries were of course those from the Bliss Spa which happen to be my favourite. The bathroom was divided from the bedroom area by a glass screen which may not to be everyone's taste! My only complaint was the coffee table - it had quite sharp corners and I ended up scratching myself on my shins a few times.

    The pool areas are excellent at this location - the main pool area gets crowded and they also let non guests in so expect the pool to turn into people soup at the weekend. In my opinion however the best pool area is the one in the main building that is a little tricky to find and as a result has far fewer people. There's a great jacuzzi there too which is perfect late at night or early in the morning.

    Like all of the W Hotels it appeals to a younger crowd and can be quite noisy and busy. I will return the next time I am in Ft. Lauderdale!

    Location and size wise this is the most beautiful, the most grand W I've been to! Right there on the beach the 3 stars were knocked down from it because we went there for valentines night which my bf prepared a suite with rose petals on the bed and good quality champagne all prepaid and when we get there not only we have to wait in line to check in then after waiting at the counter these idiots gave our suite to somebody else!!! U can imagine how mad my bf was and how much longer we stayed at check in fighting for the simple right to have our expensive pre-paid bottle of champagne back! Forget decorations surprise factor etc...or yeah next day we went to spa to get massages and tho the massage spa was amazing my masseuse was the worst ever! I told him not to touch below the knee several times but he was on a mission to hurt me and "cracking" his finger joints (a sound worse than snapping your fingers right next to someone's ear) every five seconds when he finally got to work on my back then off course told me I had a billion cellulite and tried to sell me an overpriced gadget and bs creams to solve all my problems! Nice try body! I have a mirror at home!!

    Spiffy, modern and clean with a great restaurant. It's one of my favorite hotels in Fort Lauderdale. The service is top notch and their restaurant serves some of the best food in town. Plus, I love seeing a fish tank containing nothing but jellyfish; a totally unique departure from the norm.

    The only drawback, which is the same with so many of the newer hotels along the A1A beach strip is that you do have A1A highway located between the hotel and the beach.

    I might add that the rooms are great, spacious, with most offering spectacular views but the hotel can become confusing since check-in isn't on the usual first floor and though you may think the main hotel bar on on the first floor, it's actually on the first. Also though you might not at first notice, the second floor wash areas of the toilet facilities unisex with a big balcony and gorgeous view, then there are certain lights which I understand that they now rarely turn on which makes the wash area into a near disco light show.

    The service here isn't as great as I would have expected. Maybe it's because I've stayed at the W in Hong Kong, and service in Asia is generally better, but seriously, this place needs work.

    We didn't get the room that we reserved (a nice Fiore Suite), but we were forced to stay the night despite our uncomfortable situation- it was also completely filthy. I was expecting for the manager to give us some sort of compensation for our inconvenience, but he didn't. Even after blatantly ASKING for some type of compensation, we got nothing. Pretty disappointing.

    The only good memory I have of this place is the entire experience itself because I got engaged that weekend! BUT, in terms of hotel, I think that we could have stayed somewhere cheaper with better service.

    Great experience. Wonderful staff. Very über chic atmosphere. Right across from the beach. Everyone (check in, valet, pool staff) were friendly and not a bit of snobby attitude.

    As SPG members, we got an amazing ocean view.

    Gym area, lobby with pool tables, and free morning coffee were nice perks.

    Even check out on a very busy Saturday was quick, and the valet's really hustle.

    The pool scene is young, with a really good Muzack collection playing so you dont even need your own iPod/phone.

    Stayed 1 night, and it was our first time staying here for our anniversary. Everything was great! The staff was friendly and attentive to every need. The only thing that happened was we couldn't get our keys bc the system was down, but as soon as we went to dinner we stopped by the front desk and got our keys with no problem. The room and style was amazing...loved our balcony. We stayed in the cool corner room with a huge balcony. Pretty view. Would come back, but only for special occasions because it's expensive. You get what you pay for though I suppose :)

    Color me impressed! I pulled in with my Chevy Cobalt rental and asked them to not scratch my car since I didn't get the insurance. Felt food to say since I pulled up next to a row of Ferraris and Maseratis. Be smart and book through Expedia! My room should of been $750 a night and eneded up around $250, A bargain for such luxury! Also no one swims on the rooftop pool between the apartments and hotel area, so have at it after hours!!!!

    Amazing location, great to relax, get the ocean view room and chill at the large pool. A must!

    Great experience wherever you go. Got upgraded (SPG) to an ocean view room in the 10th floor. Enjoyed the huge heated outdoor pool and great ambiance in the afternoon with hip background music. This hotel offers a small cafe style breakfast at the bar upstairs or full breakfast or dining at the restaurant downstairs.In the evening you can enjoy a drink on the terrace (perfect even in November with 75 at night) or at the bar which is very lively. Will return soon.

    What a disappointing stay, and I can concur with Melissa L's review of this hotel.  The service SUCKS.

    A friend of mine and I, both who share the same birthday, opted to go to Fort Lauderdale for our birthdays.  From the moment we checked in, we should have seen the red flags.

    First off, service.  When we arrived, we inquired about the location of the ice machine.  We were informed that they are in the process of changing the ice procedure away from machines from the floors, and that they were going to send up ice.  Time went on to close to half hour no ice.  We called back, and no update.  Little to find out the ice machines are still on each floor and working perfectly fine.

    Then we have housekeeping.  We had to call for housekeeping a few times.  And it took them hours before they came to clean the room.

    And to top it off, the billing.  We checked in with one credit card.  And at check out, opted to switch to another.  We even have the receipt for the charged new credit card.  A couple of days after, they reversed back to the charges to the first credit card.  Called 4 times now.  2 times they have promised to reverse the chages.  It's been a week.  Still not fixed.  2 times they have promised to call me back.  NO call backs at all.  

    I am not holding my breath.  Must be the lackadaisical Floridian lazy attitude that shows the lack of service, and unfortunately, at a nice property.

    Definitely looking to stay elsewhere next time.

    I stayed here for my birthday weekend and was well taken care of. I had been to the pool here before when I lived in Florida, but never stayed overnight. Champagne was waiting for me when I checked in with a note wishing me a happy birthday! Great way to start off my celebration.  I had a huge suite with a kitchen that was equipped with everything you could possibly think of. The bathroom was large and clean. The service was 5 star and I would definitely come back here.

    I am a true blue Card carrying Marriott fan but the W knocked it out of the park and it has inspired me to open a yelp account after years of using others reviews. Hello, yelp! So, the quick $25 cab ride to the property finds me heading to the 4th floor for check in. Lighting is very dim, design is cool trendy, and I say to the front desk Shawn that I don't think I am cool enough to be a guest.

    I bet I won't be able to capture the why but I found the W Team to have a natural elegance, grace, and kindness about how they took care of me. One night I opened up a container of cashews from the mini bar and thought they seemed stale. I called the front desk to tell them and they said "no problem" and I didn't think anything of it until a few mins later, a bell person knocked to bring up a new container.

    Wake up calls are by a real person. The reminder one resulted in another knock on the door because I hadn't properly hung up the phone. I glanced at the clock and saw it was 7:03 and so in 3 mins they realized they couldn't get through and got someone up there!? Impressive.

    The meeting I was there for was lovely and we kept rolling good chairs out of another meeting room and replacing ours with them. You may want to order the good ones. Service and attention to us was gracious and attentive.

    Wi-fi was my main and only challenge but you call the extension 5000 and they remedied the situation. I called at least 3 times overa 4 night stay and could have called more but was too annoyed and just dropped it after awhile.

    I didn't find much in the way of coffee shops, restaurants, or places to spend money in the vicinity which seemed surprising for it's ocean front ness. Being a business trip with non-stop meetings though might not have made me the best scout.

    Not sure how they did it but the people wow'ed me over and over with their attitude and heart and I really applaud them.

    this W hotel is not one their best.

    while location is great the rooms are just ok.  I found the beds surprisingly uncomfortable.  other w hotels have much more heavenly comfortable beds.

    the rooms also look slightly dated. while I like the open concept a glass wall for the toilet is simply odd.

    also for the price asking extra for wireless is simply stupid

    however service was really great and the pool area is awesome.  hence the 3 stars

    This hotel is old looking with beat up furniture over 25 years old. The upholstery is stained and ripped. The pool is very nice. The staff is nice too. The view is pretty if you have an ocean view room. However, the rooms are old looking. The furniture and tv needs updating. The carpet is worn and stained. The walls need a fresh coat of paint.They charge $34 for parking daily. They seem to charge for everything that other hotels include and they charge at the high end. For example, they charge $15 if you take the laundry bag. They charge $3.00 for a bagel and $4 for a yogurt.This hotel is no longer trendy. Save your money and stay someplace else.

    My airline chose this as our extended overnight hotel in FLL. It was my first time at a W. It's like no other hotel I've seen (and I live in Las Vegas). First, it's DARK. It's lit like a night club, even in the lobby (4th floor). This hotel made me feel fat and old compared to the other peeps who were in the lobby/bar.

    The room was very contemporary as I'd anticipated, but not so practical. No bathroom door, just a curtain. The shower is behind glass, almost in the middle of the room. But shutters can give you privacy.

    The toiletries were a bit on the cheap side. I was expecting something with more class than a lemony shampoo & soap. It is the citrus state, right?

    Just across the street is the beach. From the balcony on the 4th floor of the lobby, they have a nice area to sit and enjoy the view. The location is key. Great location and architecture. It really stood out when I was walking on the beach and comparing it to other hotel designs.

    Be prepared to pay $33 a night for valet.You really do get what you pay for at this hotel. Its very classy and the staff is always in a great mood. Its my 6th or 7th time staying there. Spent 4th of july wknd here with family. Soon as you check in their offering you a free cocktail. The rooms are a furnished apt pay the additional for the balcony with the ocean view so worth it. They have amazing pools over looking the ocean. They have bars though out the place also hot night clubs. Its called the W because it means whatever whenever. Whatever you want whenever you want it. Nothing is free though so get whatever your heart desires just be prepared to pay.

    Stayed here just to get away from the everyday same old same old. The hotel was super nice. Dropped off our car at the valet and never saw it again until we left. Everything thing is in walking distance that is important the Beach and places to eat and drink. The pool is really nice and the pool deck at night has a few fire pits to relax by at night. Cabanas are available to rent which is nice on those super hot days.

    I'm a Starwood Preferred Guest and I've stayed at a ton of their hotels, but this was my first stay in a W. It's like classic Lewis Carroll meets chic, modern design.

    I redeemed some starpoints for a night here as a birthday treat. I was originally booked for a Wonderful room and upon check-in, was upgraded to a Spectacular room with a big, BIG balcony and partial ocean view. I was also able to get late checkout at 1 PM and then extended to 4 PM after a couple of front desk calls.

    I felt like I could just melt into the bed like it was the marshmallow in the middle of a giant campfire treat. Mmm... s'mores... The toilet had its own closet and the shower was all glass with venetian blinds on the side facing the bed. All the bath products are their spa's Bliss brand. I felt and smelled pretty savory after scrubbing up with said lemon+sage scented products.

    The attention to design is incredible, even down to the details like the salutational rugs in the elevators that change throughout the day. The ambiance and the furniture in the lobby/lounge is fabulous, with the pool doubling as the roof, casting rippling shadows on the floor.  

    My only major complaint was the valet. Whichever one we handed our ticket to disappeared into thin air and we waited over 20 minutes before we were able to approach another valet to go get our car.     I may not be the most consistent with writing reviews but this one is worth writing about. I go to many hotels. But when I stay at the W it makes the others look small in every aspect . The ambience is amazing. Awesome decor and the service everyone provides no matter. What role like Danny the late night security went above and beyond his role and I appreciated it. I will always recommend this hotel and it's franchises to anyone. Just simply amazing.

    This Hotel gets 5 stars & I'll explain why. I've never been to Florida & for a first impression This does it's justices . I'm completely obsessed with the amount of great customer service I received; their pool was open 24 hours & so was customer service if I needed a blanket at 4am it would be at my door by 4:01am. Completely obsessed I would definitely come back to this location or another country or state . 5 Freaking stars !!!

    I can't wait to stay here again. three nights was just not enough!  The pool is great and the beach is just a step away.  I utilized the gym every morning, it was small but satisfactory.  The service here is impeccable and the staff is very cordial unlike some high end hotels in which I've previously stayed.  The food at the pool is delicious along with the breakfast in the steakhouse downstairs, I still dream about the blueberry pancakes!  I highly recommend this hotel to anyone, in fact a client of mine went two weeks after I got home per my recommendation and equally loved it.  The scene at the pool is great, especially on the weekends and there's  even nightlife at the hotel for nights when you don't feel like venturing outside. Stay here!!!

    A hotel must have two basic things in order to get more than 2 stars. Comfy beds with clean linens; and functional showers with hot and cold water.
    This hotel has failed on one of the two, and it's inexcusable at a hotel chain with the prestige and hip reputation of a W.
    First, i wanted to take a bath after a very long day of working and the shower-over-tub was only sending water through the shower head. I looked at the assembly and could not figure out how to get the faucet to run. An engineer finally came up and had to use a pair of needle-nose pliers to pull a button out and force the water through the faucet. Voilá! Finally, a bathtub. The water was yellow, as it also was in the toilet, but it was hot water...
    In the morning, I turned on the shower and the water was lukewarm - for ten minutes. The toilet water was also yellow (yes, BEFORE I used it).
    I called the front desk and let them know I had limited time and wondered if it was a problem throughout the hotel. They said that they would send someone up "right away", and I said I could only wait five minutes then I needed to just get in. They apologized and I was hopeful. I turned off the shower and began to pack. After ten minutes, I turned the shower back on. A few minutes later, I slapped the Do Not Disturb sign on the door and locked the bolt and got in the lukewarm shower. Halfway through the shower the water got fairly hot (while turned to the hottest setting), but never as hot as it should have been. I later found out that none of my four coworkers had hot water either.

    Biggest problem: no one ever showed up (I left the room about an hour after my initial call), and no one ever called to follow up. This is a fatal mistake for any hotel or motel. And at a W, it's truly an abysmal failure.
    So, this hotel has an ongoing water temperature and color issue. If you like hot showers, this hotel may not deliver.

    The management seemed far too laid back to care, and when I went to the front desk and mentioned that no one had ever called or showed up to my room, they empathized and apologized but offered no solution or resolution to the problem.

    This was my first visit ever to a W Hotel. I will certainly not be back to this one, and I don't expect much at others unless they have tons of positive reviews.

    The staff members are truly hospitable and exude a genuine sense of pride in their hotel.  My room was a New York City size room in Fort Lauderdale, but I don't need that much space in a hotel room, and the balcony offered a great view of the ocean and the intercoastal waterway.  The fitness center is one of the better ones for a hotel.  Overall, I really enjoyed my stay and will definitely be back.

    Great views of the beach, comfortable beds, talking rooms (well they actually don't say anything but there are little notes that make you feel like you are with someone when no one else is there I.e. a note on the mirror that says you look good or the note on the glass shower that says peek a boo or the note on the bottled water that reminds you to hydrate yourself) all in all a great stay and I will tell my clients visiting the area for a cruise or a land based vacation to stay at the W.  I failed to mention the great staff like Derrick Nelson and Bruna of the insider team.

    I had a short stay here and we truly had a great time. The hotel is very trendy and beautifully decorated. They had a great restaurant which was very yummy and we really enjoyed the pool and the great service. The room was very nice and spacious and I loved everything about it until I saw the shower..completely incased in glass..for an almost eight month pregnant woman this isn't sexy..lol..let's just say I took showers in the dark. Everything else was sheer perfection and we will definitely come back for an adult weekend. This is not a very kid friendly place but great for some alone adult time.

    All I have to say is OMg.. This place is bad a$$.  Got an upgrade to a balcony overlooking the ocean with great sunrise, ocean, and beach views.  The hotel is incredibly clean and all of the staff is extremely friendly.  The lemony smell throughout the hotel is amazing and makes everything seem brand new.  The bar downstairs is very trendy so expect to spend around $12 for a vod soda.  The pool is relaxing with water views as well.  The only thing I wish the same as other Starwood hotels would be the heavenly bed that is offered at the Westin.  Other than that this place is great.

    A little tired for a W. Was upgraded, but to a very small residential suite - could not find any samples of pictures showing this style room. All furniture and upholstery is dated and worn - with stains on most and tethered fabric on all outside furniture and scratches on most inside furniture. Poolside was a  zoo, and given the money they are probably making, I understand why they would not do any upgrades. But the place was just dirty and old - broken furniture, tethered umbrellas, cabanas were grossly dirty - found two used band aids in mine. Staff all seemed exhausted and lazy. Asked for a couple of minor things and the pool staff were literally making up lies to not have to help me. "Oh, only the big cabanas get a fridge." "Then why do three of the smaller ones have one." "Oh, because they were requested." "You, in fact, less than ten minutes ago offered one of those very cabanas to me." Just pure laziness, unfriendly service. The maids cart was visible in the hallway in tower 2 for four days. No attention to service, cleanliness, just desire to rake in cash. If you like Spring Break crowds, go here.

    Amazing, beautiful, fantastic!!!  THE place to stay on Ft. Lauderdale beach.  I felt rich & famous staying there.  It was just a short one night stay & I didn't want to leave.

    Very chic lobby with amazing fresh flowers in huge vases.  Flavored water available near the check in desk.  A little too heavy of a perfume in the air.  I loved how they changed the rugs in the elevators to say Good Morning, Good Afternoon and Good Evening.  

    Beautiful rooms.  Very comfortable & spacious.  The glass wall shower to the room is a little startling.  You will want to make sure your drapes are closed unless you are an exhibitionist.  I personally didn't care for the strong lemon scent of the Bliss toiletries.  I think the tiny Conair hair dryer did not fit with all the other luxurious amenities in the room.  It should have been an Andis Ceramic full size dryer.  Water pressure in the shower was a little los & the shower head was mounted very high on the wall.

    Fantastic pool & sun deck.  The clear staircase leading down into the lobby is so unusual & the hot tub in the corner overlooking the beach is perfectly placed.  

    Did not make it to the gym.  Chose instead to walk on the beach.  Did not eat in house but instead went to Lulus Bait Shack, yuck and Coconuts, YUM!!

    A solid choice for a stay in Ft. Lauderdale. Great service, great views, decent food and decent rooms.

    As a few people have already mentioned, this is more of a "young, hip" hotel than a family spot. But that's ok because I came here for a girlfriend's getaway, and we found the hotel to fit our requirements perfectly for that. We even got a complimentary bottle of wine from the concierge!

    Besides the staff, I loved:
    -The beds. Oooooo so soft and cozy, I just wanted to bring all that bedding home with me!
    -The balcony/view. Awesome.
    -The pool and all services related. Ample towels, always fresh, and nice citrus-infused water available self-service style.
    -The stairs that go UNDER the pool. So neat.
    -Free coffee/tea in the morning
    -The rooftop lounge-y area. A great place to end your night of dancing at 4 am...
    -The Bliss Spa toiletries in the bathroom.

    Didn't love/needs improvement:
    -The lunch options. Food was ok but way overpriced for the quality (I guess to be expected at a hotel offering poolside dining options)
    -The bathroom. So, so cramped. The shower also had horrible water pressure. And there were no towel bars! Not good when you need to hang your a) towel and b) wet bathing suit to dry.
    -The whole entrance/crossing to the other side business. It took me a full day to get acclimated to the place and confident in being able to find which elevator to take.

    We got a good deal here, and if I find myself in Ft. Lauderdale again, I wouldn't mind having another stay at the W.

    Absolutely gorgeous hotel with just as amazing staff. They go out of their way to say hello and ask how your day is going. The views are spectacular from pretty much any room. The beds are very comfortable and you truly feel like doing nothing but relaxing in this place. I've stayed here twice and have no complaints whatsoever. My boyfriend and I got room service this past visit and it was relatively fast, courteous with some really tasty food...they even bring it late at night. Also if you need anything (they even claim they would fill your tub with hot chocolate if you so desire) they are very quick to bring it up to your room. I rate this place as 5 stars. Also, heads up...check out the smaller, less know pool on floor 5 of  tower 2. Its much more serene and relaxing then the party pool above the living room area.

    Hotel is great and the staff is super friendly.  Toiletries are from Bliss which is also located on the 4th floor.  I was planning to get a massage there but saw it got mixed reviews and didn't want to pay a premium if I wasn't guaranteed a great service.  We got a suite and saw the tub and sink had some light brown spots in it but didn't bother us since we were not planning to go in the tub anyway.  The other thing to note is the internet which is (on and off) super slow.  We wanted to stay at Starwood hotels and found W to be nicer than the Westin which is just a block away.

    The W Fort Lauderdale is amazing. I love the rooms. I have stayed in multiple rooms and they all have been awesome. The two bedroom suite is like a huge condo. The staff treats you like royalty. The pool has a great atmosphere. Every time I have been there, there has been a DJ. The view of the Atlantic is awesome. You get a nice breeze coming off the water. It is a bit pricey, but what do you expect? It is the W.

    One thing that I thought was very funny is that they change the rugs in the elevator. They have a good morning rug, good afternoon rug, and good evening rug.

    Anniversary.  Walked into our room they were playing our wedding song  also had our favorite snacks.  Roses on the bed. Amazing staff, Amazing room, mega suite two balconies,  amazing bathroom.  I would recommend this hotel to anyone.  I rarely write reviews but this hotel was great.  W fort Lauderdale,  facilities,  staff, and attention to detail was top of the line, forget ritz carlton,  the W was excellent

    We are here for a bachelorette party and are very upset about how long it has taken to get our rooms, which we booked months in  advance. We arrived promptly at 4pm (check in time) and waited another 2 hours for our rooms (which we still don't have). Very disappointing, especially for a long time fan of the W. My recommendations is to stay at the Hilton across the street.

    From the moment you walk, it feels as though you've stepped into the upper echelon of boutique hotels. Everything about the W feels chic. Even the staff gives off that "cool vibe".
    We were given a complementary upgrade to a room with a balcony. Wow! what a cool room. It had that standard items you'd expect to see in any hotel room, but the quality was next level.
    I did get to use the fitness center while at the resort. It was a solid set up considering this was a hotel gym, and not your usual.
    We had drinks at "Living Room". This was a very cool concept with regards to lounges. Service was really good. Drinks were priced accordingly.

    Wish we had more time, but we were only in town for one night because we were going on a cruise.
    Would I come back?

    In a heartbeat!

    getting up to are room and opening the balcony window with the noise too load to keep the door open.  due to the fact they had a air condition vent running all night.  plus for the price and the extremely dirty carpet were your socks would get dirty, I would never consider staying at a W ever again.  shoulda stayed at the Hilton across the street maybe when we brought it to there attention about the extremely dirty carpet they would have listened.

    This hotel is amazing!!!! The rooms are nicely decorated and the views are beautiful! The pool is lot of fun, open 24/7 and has a dj on the weekends!
    I would have given five stars but we had a very bad experience at the living room bar. The bartender, Ray was extremely rude and coming from someone that works in the hotel industry, I know that is totally unacceptable! Other than him, the customer service was great!
    Another downfall to this hotel is the room service. They take a long time to clean your room.
    All and all I'd highly recommend and I will definitely be returning!

    Rooms are ok. Balcony ceiling could be cleaner, and neighbors could hold off on smoking pot. No privacy in the shower since it's just clear glass, or toilet for that matter, since that's just foggy glass and you can hear EVERYTHING. Talk about romance down the drain.
    We were sure about getting ocean view with our Spectacular room. Nope, just a peek and a whole bunch of buildings. Service is good, however, they will nickel and dime you even for the apples at the coffee bar (to clarify, apples are free at the pool, gym, and front desk) : they are a dollar at the breakfast bar!
    We were also sure that we had a private beach with umbrellas based on online photos, however, those aren't free and the beach isn't private. The umbrella is $20 per day and each chair is additional $15 per day. Pool is ok, minus screaming kids and inappropriate intoxicated couples.
    One last thing, restaurant 954 had great food and service, jelly fish tank was awesome, BUT we were seated next to a table of about ten people who were so drunk and so loud, I couldn't hear myself think. Should have bought them a complimentary drink of STFU.

    This is a nice hotel. Very modern with a professional staff. The pool area is very nice complete with a great hot tub. The bar is nice. Drinks are pricey but not unreasonable for a hotel of this quality. I'm not crazy about the lack of coffee in the guest rooms.

    Disappointed.....  I figured going to a "W" for $300+ per night. A Sauna would be available.   If you stay here. Make sure you don't get stuck on the 5th floor. This is a high traffic gym/ pool level.  They also stuck us into a handicap accessible room (room 511 tower 1).  The shower head was 5ft tall.  That's below my neck.  You have to blow dry your hair in the toilet room!  No outlet by the vanity mirror.  The furniture was dated and worn.  The receptionist was really unfriendly and unwilling to move us.  Eventually after multiple tries of bickering that we are not handicap, we were switched the next day. They said the new room will be ready by 11am, then 1pm, then finally at 3pm!   I will be posting pictures.  Maybe SPG corporate or Management of W Fort Lauderdale will actually read this and make some changes.  I'm a BIG fan of SPG hotels.  Just not this one.  Will I come back to this specific hotel?  Likely not until I see change.  Refund plz!

    To start with I never write reviews but I have to express my stay here at the W Ft Lauderdale

    We originally tried to book at the South Beach location and they were completely sold out so Ft Lauderdale was our next best option. It worked out great as well considering our 20 y/o son had training camp in Boca

    To begin with we checked in on Dec 26. It was a gloomy rainy day and when we arrived our hotel room was not ready. This seemed to be the story for all the other people waiting in the living room too.

    We decided to grab a bite to eat at the bar while we waited. Shannon was the bartender and she greeted us immediately and was a delight to sit with while we waited for our room. She gave us some great suggestions during our stay and introduced us to Derek whom we loved as well. Derek was able to set us in the right direction as far as reservations and the Water Taxi. Anything we needed he was the go to guy

    The food was above average and we were highly impressed considering it was bar food. The fries were addicting and the chicken caesar salad was phenomenal

    Joe checked us into our room and considering the crowded line he was patient and nothing but smiles. Hes very nice and welcoming

    Once we got in our room the views were amazing! One thing I do have to complain about is that when I booked online it never said that we were booking the condo side. The room was more than spacious and we would have preferred to stay on the ocean front side. The website really needs to be updated to let the guest know exactly what they are booking.

    Saturday was a gorgeous day so we decided to do a pool day. Im not really sure when W's became kid friendly playgrounds but this hotel was overflowing with little kids. This was a huge disappointment for us as we just wanted to relax and its hard when the kids are screaming and the parents are yelling over the kids. Going in the pool was completely out of the question unless you wanted to get splashed in the face over and over again

    Hillary was our server and we adored her. She was great and checked up on us regularly and was prompt with our orders. We only had drinks with her and our stay was short at the pool due to the kids.

    The bad at the pool was the parent changing the diapers at the seat next to us when the bathroom was 5ft away. Also who's bright idea was it to give all these kids popcorn? It was everywhere! In the pool, the hallways, the floor EVERYWHERE!  We decided to leave the pool when my husbands drink got knocked over twice

    We headed back down to the living room for lunch and Shannon was our bartender/server again. We sat outside and ordered food. Shannon is great! Shes prompt, sweet and great at what she does. Shes truly an asset to your company

    The only reason Im giving the rating I did was due to the employees you have working there. They can turn what could have potentially been a horrible vacation into into a good stay.

    We're not really sure if we would stay here again due to the kids but we would visit again for drinks and dinner and the great staff

    I booked a Cool Corner Oceanfront Room for our stay. It was for my honey's birthday. We were very pleased with the room. The only drawback to this room is the tremendous waste of space to enter in. There is an extremely long and wide "L" shaped hallway inside leading you to the suite. They used the bathroom to separate the entry to the sleeping area, but then put glass everywhere for the shower so when your sleeping and your mate is showering they might as well be showering in bed. VERY odd. Out side of that the room and wrap around balcony were great. Actually the balcony was bigger than the room. I guess that is another design flaw in my opinion. The staff was very professional and attentive. We will return if the occasion calls for it but we are also looking at property so we may purchase a second home in Fort Lauderdale. We'll see. I definitely recommend this hotel.

    Absolutely disgusted with the billing practices of Whiskey Blue lounge and its parent hotel, the W in Fort Lauderdale.

    My sister got married next door at the Westin on 12/20/14.  The groom had weeks ahead of time placed a pre-authorization on his credit card for a table with bottle service at Whiskey Blue for the wedding after party.  I was in charge of corralling our party together.  Well, the bartender and manager both insisted that this pre-auth was not enough, and that a second credit card would also be needed.  The groom is in his elaborate Indian wedding outfit and does not have a wallet on him, so I pay instead.  The table minimum is $300, which is what the groom had agreed as the max on his card from when he'd done the preauth.  So instead, I put down my credit card after an extensive conversation with Craig to make sure the groom doesn't get charged (which would be a double charge).  I don't leave it open, I sign and pay for the bottle which comes with table service.  Because of how suspicious this interaction had been so far, I luckily photographed my receipt for $300 Grey Goose + 18% included gratuity = total $354 (see attached photo).  This was charged to my Amex (see first part of statement).  

    The groom is away on honeymoon, so I haven't checked whether he's also been charged yet, but I wouldn't be surprised.  But that experience, and the 30 min delay for our bottle service, left me with such a bad taste in my mouth that I checked my Amex statement today, four days later.  Lo and Behold, a secret second charge placed just under the name "W hotel" rather than "Whiskey Blue."  And what does it amount to, but ANOTHER 18% ON TOP OF THE ALREADY INCLUDED SERVICE CHARGE!  (see second part of statement).

    Nice hotel....typical W. Big room, comfy bed, lovely bathroom with Bliss amenities.

    But the place is damn dark! My room had no floor lamps or overhead lights, only table lights.  But everything else outweighs that.  

    I was very happy with the nice sized bathroom, but I found it weird that there was no door to the area that had the shower and so if you were sharing with your kid or something, you would have no privacy once you stepped out clean, but in the buff.  Otherwise I was pleased with the shower and loved that there was a nice robe to step into.

    My room had two queens, a tiny "couch" and table, a desk, a small flat screen and a decent little patio with a view of the ocean.  Bonus!  I was on the I LOVE SPG floor but didn't really see that it afforded me anything different than any other floor.

    There was a nice sized workout room with treadmills, bikes and elliptical along with weight machines and punching bags (!).

    But best of all is being right across the street from the beautiful blue ocean and there are a lot of restaurants nearby if you want to escape the hotel.  That said, there is a good lobby bar and steak house here so why leave??  Just enjoy the fresh sea air and have yourself a mojito!

    I ended up staying here recently for a night as a surprise birthday gift. Having stayed at other W hotels around the country, I'm definitely partial to the brand's quality, service and attention to detail and had very high expectations. Across the board, the staff is polite, courteous and interested. The facilities are as you'd expect.  Finishes are amazing and always in immaculate condition. Our room faced the ocean and with the glass-walled shower, if was almost like you were showering on the beach. Room service was great (except for a snafu with our coffee order the next morning, but it wasn't enough to detract from the experience). If luxury and service with an ocean view are what you seek, you just found it. Perfect for travelers and staycationers alike!

    This hotel owes me a sincere apology. I am a 21 year old female and was staying for one night as a layover to catch up on some rest before heading back to the airport in the morning. At 3 AM I was woken up by some shouting. It only took me moments to realize that the guests in the room next to me (conjoined room with locked door) were shouting very inappropriate things. I figured it would be over in a few minutes, but after 45 minutes I called guest services. I nicely stated that I needed a room change because the couple next to me was shouting very inappropriate things loud enough for me to hear every single word (loudly) as if they were in the same room. The guest services representative put me on hold only to say they could not switch me rooms. She offered for security to check out the situation. I said yes. At 4 AM I looked out the peek hole to see security had arrived and after watching them stand there for 5 minutes not handling the noise, I opened the door. I told them to please address the situation, and they said they would. (they could hear the couple too) I locked my door and they knocked on the rooms door next to me. No answer. They knocked again. No answer. They called the room, and the male voice answered "hello?" They asked him to come to the door and he cussed at them. Security left and DID NOT handle the situation. The noises, moaning and explanation of what sexual things they were doing continued. WORST HOTEL EVER. To let a young girl listen to this in tears, I should have called the police saying it was borderline sexual harassment to listen to that and not allow me to switch rooms.

    This particular W seems to be showing early warning signs of poor management and poor up keep. I have stayed at this particular property many times over that last 2 years and have witnessed a steady decline in the operations and finishing details which are significantly below the W standard that I am used to. Most of the rooms are not being maintained properly and are looking tattered and in need of a little TLC. The night managers seem to be under experienced in handling and taking care of their top tier clientele.

    The bars and entertainment staff are the only reason I would stay at this property again. Hopefully this property will get its act together in the near future.

    Weirdest. Bathroom. Ever!!!! We were in a king room and the shower is the divider between the bedroom and bathroom...and it's a glass shower!!!! Luckily I was sharing a room with my husband, not a friend. I wouldn't stay at another W because of this, just too weird. Otherwise, the hotel was nice.

    Some W's are awesome and some are disappointments. This one is a great example of the later. I do not recommend this property.

    Disappointments:

    The room - long hairs in the bathroom that clearly didn't belong to me, leftover toiletries from the previous guest in the shower, what looked like mildew in the shower.  

    In room dining - fruit clearly wasn't fresh, potatoes undercooked, forgot to include cream or a spoon, arrived 15 minutes after the requested time, the most annoying salt and pepper shakers you will ever use (the holes are too small to allow pepper to come out).

    Dining at the bar - ordered yogurt with fruit and a hot dog another day. The plain yogurt came out semi frozen and once again, the fruit was not fresh. It also absorbed the flavors of whatever it was sitting next to in the fridge. The hot dog was the most boring hot dog I've ever had. I received a bun, a hot dog, a packet of ketchup/mustard and some potato chips. There are more condiment options at your local movie theater. You would just think that a W would be capable of being the least bit creative... even with a hot dog.

    Bonus - there were some shady looking characters roving around the 4th floor during the afternoon and evening where check in and the bar/terrace is located.  I have no idea if they were guests or visitors but their behavior attracted my attention and I was surprised that it didn't seem to attract the attention or notice of hotel staff.

    Pros - great location and views but there are better hotel options in Ft Lauderdale (with the same great views & location) that don't require you to sacrifice cleanliness, comfort or good dining experiences.

    All together... It made for a disappointing stay. Unfortunately for this property, there are some W properties out there that set the bar very high which explains my disappointment with the W Fort Lauderdale.

    I did inform staff of the issues I experienced. I was provided 3000 Starwood points for the inconvenience. That band-aid just wasn't enough to resolve the issues that would prevent me from wanting to stay at this property again in the future.

    I've been to this location a few times now and most recently for a wedding.  I have to say they've really got it all down right here from the second you pull up at valet, the service and attention to detail is incredible.  You'll hardly ever open the door for yourself upon entering as the doorman is eager to greet you and open it for you.  Ambiance is very soothing from the moment you enter with calming running water and dim lights in the entrance foyer, from there you go up to the second floor for check in which is also access to the bar with a gorgeous patio that overlooks the beach.  You also have access to the remarkable pool as well that also offers incredible 360 degree views of the Beach.  

    The rooms are very nice and very modern, service is always impeccable and the food options for dinning out or ordering room service are all very good.  NO complaints at all here except the price tag but hey... you get what you pay for!

    This hotel is breathtaking! They have a lot of amenities to offer. The hotel is literally across the street from the ocean. Beautiful view!
    The balconies are very big and overlook the ocean! The rooms are really nice; the bathroom has a glass wall so you can see everything (literally) in the room.
    The staff is outstanding! Super friendly and at tentative to you. Steak 954 is the prime restaurant here and it's so good! Not a complaint to offer! Our waitress was so great! She felt more like a friend. The service was quick and the food was to die for!
    The hotel has 18 floors I believe. The restaurant is on the 1st floor. On the 4th there is a bar/lounge area. We came here after dinner. Some night they lite a huge fire pit. You sit across from the ocean, so even at night the view is beautiful! The drinks are a little pricey but for the hotel your in it's average.
    On the 9th floor they have a huge endless pool and an endless jacuzzi. They have cabanas and massage tables.
    This hotel was amazing!!! Enjoyed every second!

    Definitely NOT worth the money I am EXTREMELY dissatisfied with this hotel. The room I had was horrible and the hotel was at capacity so I could not switch to a room with a balcony after paying so much per night. The beds are VERY uncomfortable and there is not an ice machine so obviously no ice buckets I had to wait  15 minutes for ice. This is THE WORST W hotel I have ever been to and will NEVER stay here again.

    Second time staying here, even more impressed this time around! My boyfriend and I came for our anniversary, not only did we get an amazing upgrade since I'm platinum, but we checked in and had chocolate covered strawberries and a hand written note waiting for us!! The balcony is amazing. Drinks at the Living Room and at the pool during the day are fabulous, highly recommend the cucumber margarita. We will definitely be coming back again... Service has been fantastic.

    A fantastic location and property. I highly recommend the pool if you get a chance to visit it.

    Overall the "W" doesn't disappoint. I would say that this location is a bit brighter than most I have visited -- which is a plus. I had the pleasure of being upgraded to a 2 bedroom condo unit the first night of my stay and was blown away. The attention to detail with the decor really shows. My standard room was also pretty clever with a glass wall between the bedroom and bathroom which allowed the sunshine to brighten the room (not recommended for families that need privacy :) )

    In addition to the fantastic rooms, I was able to sample their food because the conference I was attending. I must say that I was very impressed with the 'hotel' food.

    I would be very happy to stay at this location again --- whether business or pleasure.

    I should title this review The Good The Bad And The Ugly!
    The Good: Great location on the beach. Staff that actually work (front desk, housekeeping, waitstaff.) Hotel has woderful rooms and views. The pool at the front of the hotel is hip and well kept.
    The Bad: $40 for beach chair and umbrella?? Really?? $32 a night for parking....that was insane.. And the pool in back of the hotel is in seriously bad shape...bottom kf the pool is crumbling tiles are breaking.  No towels dirty cups and garbage all over the place. Horrible.
    The Ugly.  Was double charged for my room and took a month and a half worth of phone calls and emails to get it resolved.... which turned a nice little getaway with the wife into a freaking nightmare.....Hey fancy upscale W...you guys suck...

    I will start with the good.  Great location with large rooms with great views. The food was really good.

    The bad. Way to expensive to have rude front desk and concierge. Rugs in room were disgusting and dirty. Every table in every restaurant and cafe was also sticky and dirty with stuck on food. Even the sitting areas and pool side. Pool bottom was also gross with what I hope was rust stains by the filtration that is on the bottom.  Gym smelled horrible, why couldn't they clean and air it out.

    Enjoyable Food, Outstanding Service and Sensational View.

    This last weekend I attended a conference being held at the W Fort Lauderdale.  The usual expectations of a "rubber chicken" lunch, cold continental breakfast and "I'll get to you when I get to you" service were paramount in my mind after many years of such experiences.  Not at the W.

    The breakfast was  buffet style with shirred eggs done perfectly, breakfast potatoes that were a joy to eat and bacon cooked just right... just slightly short of rigid.  There were at least 6 types of muffins, croissants and a fruit bar with berries, melons and breakfast parfaits.  Bottomless coffee and orange juice rounded out the morning fare.

    Lunches were hot and again, not a rubber chicken found anywhere.  Chicken was the main dish on Sunday but cooked to tender and moist, served on a bed of stuffed mini pasta tubes.  Salad and clam chowder soup weer also served(running out of adjectives but both were flavorful, enjoyable and I noticed no plates were picked up with any of the salad or soup not consumed.

    A word of warning for the W Fort Lauderdale.  You do realize you have raised the bar unbelievably high for other hotels hosting conferences, don't you?  I don't think some of the other hotels are going to like this.  You might need to watch your back... door.

    Thank you for making the conference extra enjoyable.  However, it is going to be disappointing in the future when the next conferences return me to reality with the cold breakfasts and usual lunches.  Thank you again for the "other world" experience.

    What a beautiful hotel! I stayed here for a weekend with a friend as a mini vacation even though I live fairly close. The decor is very contemporary and so visually appealing everywhere you turn.  The pool is on the 5th floor and you can look into the pool from the staircase and from the Livingroom on the 4th floor. The hotel is maintained immaculately and the staff is very professional.  The view is just wonderful and you really feel like you're on vacation when you look out the balcony and see the ocean.

    Friendly staff but lots lacking for a hotel in this price range. Common area tables, chairs and cushions are not clean, pool area very busy on a regular Monday in February. The pool is on a terrace so limited space leads to sun chairs being very close together. Long check in line. We got a room with two small beds (not queen size) and were told nothing else was available, even if we are gold and booked well in advance. I agree with another reviewer of a slight moldy smell in the shower. The hotel entrance is odd - feels like the back entrance. No one was holding up the door etc. I can open the door myself but at a 4 star hotel you kind of expect that someone will open it.
    The staff is very friendly and nice. Good location, nice ocean view and free pool tables. Fitness group classes huge plus.

    Trendy hotel in a great location on Fort Lauderdale beach. Upgraded rooms offer an amazing view of the beach.

    Service is helpful when asked but does not anticipate needs. For example: if you see a customer with a baby, odds are that this customer will need a crib and perhaps a stroller.

    Hotel relies a little too much on the "cool" factor and should step up its Whatever Whenever service. However for the price, a much better deal than the W on South Beach.

    Two pools: one where you can see the beach, and another secluded one on the other side of the hotel.

    Only downsides:
    - Pool was crazy packed all day
    - Check-in and check-out services were extremely slow (apparently if you check out super early, they can't generate a bill for you)
    - Cafe not always open so no quick place to pickup coffee/snacks inside

    Tips:
    - Starbucks with limited selections is available inside hilton across street
    - Full-size starbucks available about a 5min walk down street at Westin
    - CVS also ~5min walk

    The vertical and horizontal layout of the property takes some learning, especially if you're in one of the towers. But the complexity is genius, putting the pools, decks, bar, restaurant, and of course the rooms exactly where'd you want them, each with perfect views. A second pool that's more intended for kids and families keeps everyone happy; it boasts views of the intercoastal waters instead of the ocean.

    There's a bike share station right at the hotel. Great way to get around. If you're staying for more than a day and enjoy even an occasional ride, I'd recommend getting a membership, which costs the same as five rides. You can buy a guest pass at the station, but a membership has to be purchased online. Five trips may sound like a lot, but there isn't much located within a couple blocks of the W. That makes for some nice beach walks, but the bike is a great mode when you just want to get to point B or check out downtown or Lauderdale-by-the-Sea.

    Based on my experiences with W Hotels, some W hotels are amazing, and some can be a huge disappointment. This W is a little bit of both.

    We were in Ft. Lauderdale for a short weekend and decided to stay at the W Hotel because we're hotel snobs and also Starwood Preferred Guests.

    The hotel itself is a like your typical W: super trendy, fun, with beautiful views. There is a Ted Gibson salon on the first floor, and a Bliss Spa on the 4th floor. The pool is gorgeous, and there is a beautiful view of the beach from the hotel.

    We arrived to the hotel a bit early, and were half-heartedly greeted by a man at the front desk. I am truly tired of people treating me as if they are doing me some sort of favor by actually doing their job, but anyway, that was what his demeanor was like.

    He reminded us that we were early, and we asked if it was possible for us to have an early check in. He said he would check on the rooms and let us know. Let's just say, he did not let us know. We waited around for two hours, and had to approach him multiple times. At one point he physically "went to check" and then disappeared. Ridiculous. We get it, we're early. At least get back to us and let us know what's going on. We ended up being helped by a different gentleman who was able to get us a room after waiting around for two hours. Luckily there is a pool table, and outdoor terrace to keep people occupied.

    So we finally got our room. We had a "Fantastic View Suite" of some sort. It was basically a one-bedroom suite on the 15th floor with an excellent view, a living room, two balconies and a huge bathroom.  As we walked into the living room, I had to hold my breath. It literally smelled like a homeless person. It was absolutely disgusting.

    My husband went down to speak to someone at the front desk, and during that time, the housekeeping manager came to follow up on the room. He was actually super nice, and I explained the situation to him. The minute he walked into the room, he agreed with me. He was extremely apologetic and said he would get us a different room. In the meantime, my husband got us a different room on the floor above. Although we were told that we received an upgrade, we actually ended up in the same room for the same price, which was close to $500 a night. There is also an additional charge for valet for each day.

    The hotel itself is nice, but they are lacking in customer service. I would think of returning only because of the amenities in the area and the location, which is across the street from the beach. On the flip side, they offer fitness classes including yoga on the beach and are a quick walk to Starbucks, and many great restaurants on the strip. It is a party hotel at night, which most Ws are, with Burlesque dancers and such getting down dancing on the bar.

    Room smelled like a kennel.  Carpeting
    was dirty.  Chairs were stained. Couldn't
    get a hold of a manager.  Was promised
    a call back in a half hour.  One hour later
    still no call back.  I had it and left.
    Also don't go by the pictures shown
    on the Internet.  It's amazing how angle shots make everything look bigger than
    it really is.  All in all a horrible experience !!

    I stayed here the weekend for my birthday and I must admit considering that I have been to the restaurant and it is excellent I thought that the hotel itself was going to be amazing. The hotel for the price you pay a night is pretty rundown. My cousin rented at La Casa Boutique just down the street for $100 a night and I swear the rooms were of better quality. I had two other friends stay at The W the same weekend as I did and their rooms were not that fantastic either, I thought maybe I was just unlucky and got a bad room. For a luxury hotel I really do think they need to work on upgrading rooms and details. I gave it two stars because I must say the staff was incredibly attentive, super on point.
    I recommend staying anywhere else on Fort Lauderdale Beach then here if you're going to spend over $350.00-400.00 a night.

    Really nice hotel if your expectations are in check. It's been open for nearly 7 years so there is some general wear and tear. The staffing seems a bit low as we have had to wait for check-in and it took a while to get service in the "living room".

    The pool is a blast for kids. The glass stairwell running through the middle of the pool is unique and fun.

    The location is excellent, just across the street from the beach. The only dining in the hotel is fairly expensive but there is a Starbucks at the Westin down the street and plenty of walkable options.

    You can tell that the original construction was good but not great. Our family of four has been very comfortable in a one bedroom suite with a room for the kids with two sofas that convert to twin sofas beds.

    What a great hotel.  I have been here many times to enjoy their great restaurant, Steak 954, but have usually stayed down the street at the Westin.  Very glad we decided to spend a few extra dollars.  The service at the W is top notch.  Every employee stops what they're doing to address you and say hi. We rented a cabana at the "east" pool, a more sedate and quite version of the "party" west pool overlooking the Atlantic. The pool attendant, Andreas, could not do enough to make us happy.  He continually asked us what else he can do for us.  Actually brought some buckets, a skip rope, and pool noodles for our nieces who were visiting from Weston and Miami.  We really received Four Seasons service here.  Our ocean-view room was great and made up by housekeeping early every day, a rarity these days.

    I would stay at the W Fort Lauderdale any time and recommend it to anyone wanting a better experience than the W can offer.  I think the only major hotel that can compare presently in the neighborhood is the Ritz Carlton, but a Four Seasons and Conrad are under construction within a block, so the competition is heating up in Fort Lauderdale--finally!

    My boyfriend and I flew into Fort Lauderdale to travel to the keys. On our last night of the trip I booked the W to celebrate our anniversary and because the location was close to the airport for our early flight the next day.

    I'm an SPG member, and I've always been really happy with the hotels, until this particular stay. We spent our day traveling and arrived at the hotel probably two hours after check in. When we got to the front desk everyone was very unfriendly. I walked up and one of the guys said "Yeah you need to wait one minute." He then proceeded to walk away and never return.

    When a woman finally helped us she let us know our room wasn't ready and that we'd be given $50 to use for food and drinks. She said that we'd get a call when we could head up and took our bags for us. Normally I'm pretty laid back, but at that point in the day we had spent four hours in a car, trekked through the Everglades in bug spray and almost died on the Miami interchange. So really all we wanted was a shower and our room but we still stayed positive.

    We headed to the patio bar right off the fourth floor. Since we didn't look like we had money (flashback to Everglades trip) we waited probably 20 minutes for a cocktail waitress to even acknowledge us. She walked past us numerous times before asking us if we'd like anything, and there was a group of people on a couch across from us who were having the same problem as well. When the woman came back with our drinks she pretty much demanded a form of payment immediately. I gave her my last name and told her to charge them to the room and she responded with, "Wait one minute I need to make sure you're a guest." When she came back she smiled and said, "Yes, you're a guest and it worked!" Uhm..thanks I know. Overall the staff at this establishment is incredibly rude.

    After we finished our drinks we headed back to the front desk because we still didn't receive a call about our room and we weren't wasting any more time on that patio no matter how good the view was. When we got to the front desk the guy said, "Oh yeah..your room is ready..sorry no one called you. Your bags are still down here too..do you just want to carry them up." I politely told him I would like someone to bring them up. We had two large suitcases and a duffel, but he was acting like it was more of an inconvenience for them to take care of it.

    Everything in the hotel has an upscale grunge feel. I don't know how that even happens, but it could all use a good deep clean. It's like they bought really nice furniture etc when they first opened and then never touched any of it ever again.

    The room was fine and the partial ocean view was nice. The patio was filthy and again could use a deep clean. The water in the shower is yellow and the liners should really be changed. Either way we were happy to shower and relax. We had plans to go out in Fort Lauderdale but we figured that if the W staff was a reflection of the people in the city then we'd be better off ordering room service.

    When we ordered room service we ordered straight out of the book, I was ordering the chicken sandwich and the woman on the phone kept telling me she didn't have that on her menu. Well..then have the hotel update the room service menus. She did finally say that they could make me the one I was trying to order, and I'm glad she did because it was the best part of the whole stay. She told us our food would be up by 8:55 pm but it didn't arrive until 9:30 pm. So you can have "whatever..whenever" at the W, but it's always going to be on their time. Even if it is just a couple of sandwiches.

    When we were leaving early Sunday there was an older gentlemen working the valet and he was the best person we encountered at the W. He was very friendly and asked about our trip. He had the car pulled around very quickly and helped us with our luggage. Honestly give him a raise because he's the saving grace for your hotel.

    Never ever again will I do the W Fort Lauderdale. Too expensive of a hotel to be treated so rudely.

    I can't rave about how about the quality of service Starwood Hotels in general provides, but The W Hotel in Fort Lauderdale truly raises the bar.

    I've stayed here twice in the last year and both times had a wonderful experience. From the personal attention the staff gives you to the attention to detail the hotel exudes it's just an amazing experience. I've never had any issues during my stays, but I know if I ever did the "whatever, whenever" team is just one phone call away.

    I've stayed at quite a few hotels around the nation and I can confidently say the W is at the top of my list. Sure, the Four Season or St. Regis are luxury brands and also come with amazing staff but I'm still in my 20's and the W just feels more "with it" for someone like it. It's modern, they have multiple dining options and bars at each property and are consistently impressing me with their service.

    ***the verdict: always stay at a W hotel if it's an option, always!!! :)
