Excellent customer service by hotel staff.  Very clean room.  The swimming pool area was nice but get there early to get a seat.  Buffet at Charley's was very good.  Music was always good.  Lots of activities and amenities.  Went as a couple but would also come back with kids.

To Rich's point, I stayed at this hotel while at a business conference. The hotel is beautiful and their rooms have some awesome views. Actually, you have great views from the pools or the lounge areas, too. Wi-fi is included and it worked well.

Unfortunately, you need a car to get anywhere and there don't seem to be any night/dance clubs nearby. You can boat to Sanibel Island but there isn't much to do there either. It may be convention oriented, but it's not close to the airport, which I found kind of annoying.

If you just want to stay on one property for relaxation, this may be a good hotel to stay at. Otherwise, not so good.

The hotel is beautiful and I wish I could give it a higher rating, but there are hotels in other areas with the beauty but without the inconveniences.

Staying here for four nights over the Easter weekend.  Hotel is crowded as should be expected.  However, the management is unprepared.  Each day are room has not been made up until after 5 pm and not until we called down to complain.  We returned from a day trip to Naples to find the pool exceedingly crowded.  The second, quieter pool was closed for a private function.  A hotel should not offer an amenity that is not available due to a private function.  This is a very expensive vacation.  There are no pool towels available and we were told they would not be available until tomorrow.  A disappointment to say the least.  We just heard a child was involved in a near drowning earlier.  They do not have a life guard.

I am Staying here right now and the staff is incredible!!!! They call you and ask how you are doing and make you feel so at home. last night i ordered room service and the staff called me after i was finished to ask me how my food was. incredible value and it is not pricey for the quality of resort.

I visited recently for a business meeting.  I was in town for 3 days, 2 of them all-day meetings and one solo "fun" day.  

-  Atmosphere - Beautiful, serene, peaceful, with a fun pool scene.  My room looked right over the pool and the ocean and it was wonderful just to sit out there with a coffee in the morning.

Other reviewers have noted a lack of nightlife or things to do in the area.  I didn't have much rec time, but I enjoyed every minute.  Rent a convertible and drive over the causeway to Sanibel and Captiva Islands - the scenery is gorgeous.  And the hotel itself seemed to have a pretty decent crowd at the bar in the evening.  

-  Food - sampled two of the restaurants and had breakfast and lunch catered for our meetings.  Everything was consistently great.  I'm tough to please when it comes to steak, and the one I had at The Cove was fantastic.  This is also a great place to hold a meeting - we had a sit-down lunch the first day and cold cut platters the second.  Everything tasted fresh and yummy, no boxed lunch feel to it at all.

- SERVICE - Here's where this hotel truly sets itself apart.  Someone is doing something right in training these people.  Everytime you approach the reception desk, someone is looking up to see how they can help you.  Doesn't seem like such a big deal, but think back to how many times you've stood there waiting to be noticed while the person chats away to a coworker or on the phone.  Right?   At this place, it seems like they must have some 2nd string bench just waiting in the back to swoop in and help you if the QB is otherwise occupied... it's pretty awesome.  

I had the opportunity to speak with one of the employees there, as she was driving me to the airport since my cab was running late (seriously!)  She said the reason the service model worked so well was because each person was empowered to do whatever necessary to help the customer in that moment.  In other words, help first, figure out the details later.   I LOVE the fact that even though they are owned by a large chain, you will never hear the phrase "the computer won't let me do it".  

This great approach to customer service combined with the exquisite atmosphere = a return visit from this yelper in the near future.

Yes it's overpriced - you pay for this location but there aren't many better spots. I thought the rooms were fine and the staff are very outgoing. Good gym, tennis and BB courts too (just bring your own ball for hoops). Also go GO to the island for dinner unless you want to trek to old Ft. Myers. The hotel eatery IS a gouge fest and nothing on the main road

Stay away from the Captiva Tower. Others reviewed were correct. Your not going to experience the Marriott over here. We waited 2 hours for a blanket and Pillow. The pool may be nice but no service. For the high price of this room you should expect a view and better service. Disappointed.

I have only good things to say about this resort.  Not the best Marriott resort I've stayed at (the best award goes to the J W Marriot in San Antonio) - but...this was nice.  Clean, staff very attentive, security good, drinks a little weak, view great, towels a little on the week side.  If you are going here and need anything from the outside world....get it before you get to the resort or plan on drinving quite a ways to get what you need.

If you stay here, stay in the Sanibel tower. The Captiva tower is forgotten by the management.  All the restaurants, concierge, bellmen, and service is over at the Sanibel. The management doesn't even staff anyone at captiva after 4, so you'll be on your own. Also, be prepared to wait over an hour if you order anything.

I have stayed here probably 100 nights over the past few years, and I have never had a bad stay whether it was for business or pleasure.

Probably my two favorite places at the Resort is the Cove Bar at the pool and Charley's Cabana Bar. Great drinks and good pool / upscale bar food. The flatbreads at Charley's are great and they typically have live music 2-3 nights a week (definitely on Friday and Saturday).

I have gotten to know a lot of the bartendars and some of the management staff over the years, and they really do an excellent job of treating me like family but I have also seen them go out of their way for all visitors.

The only problem with this resort is that it is not on the gulf and there is no beach. However, you really don't even notice it.

The Steakhouse over near the tennis courts also provide a great romantic meal.

I also think that they have an agreement with Enterprise rental car now in case you wanted to rent a car for the day and drive over to Sanibel and Captiva.

I have stayed at this hotel twice now.  I love it here - the pool area and service at the pool area is awesome, the atmosphere is great - the restaurants are good and it's convenient enough that if you want to take a ride over to Sanibel Island, it's not a far ride at all.  Only thing I would have the issue with is that it is pretty pricey and you get charged for overnight parking - I hate that.  For some reason I have a real issue with paying for a room and then having to pay for parking - either include it in my room rate or get rid of it - it turns people off.  The hotel itself is clean and I think the rooms are beautiful - I have enjoyed my stay both times and would not hesitate to go back.

I have stayed at Marriott hotels for over 10 years and was a Platinum Marriott rewards member until this year.  I booked a stay at this hotel for my anniversary weekend. The website shows a beautiful picture of the hotel and when I made my reservation it said I was booked in the captiva tower.  Little did I know, nor was it disclosed ANYWHERE on the website that the Captiva tower is a separate building almost a 1/4 mile from the main hotel.  Needless to say, anything I wanted to use at the hotel was a long walk from where my room was.

Worse yet, we actually went to the room to see the accomodations.  The room was so musty and moldy smelling we turned around as soon as we opened the door.  To add to the luxury when we got into the elevator to go back to our car it creaked so bad we thought it was going to get stuck.  

Bottom line, if you are considering a stay at this hotel be aware if you book the captiva tower you will have no food, bar or a decent pool anywhere near you.  The hotel does not have a beach and in my honest opinion stay at the Residence Inn up the road and take the savings on the room rate and use it for gas and tolls to the beach.

The people who work at this hotel are pathetic. My wife and I booked a room for our first night in Florida using Marriott points. Our connecting flight out of Chicago was delayed so we called to confirm our reservation. We were told our room would be available. Yet when we finally arrived at the hotel at 1:30 am a stupid bimbo at the reservation desk cheerfully told us they were oversold and we would be staying at a Residence Inn down the street for no charge. Unbelievable! She denied knowing that our room was confirmed already that evening. The fact is they sold our room to a paying customer rather than give it away to someone using points. So I can see why Gabe A. had a bad experience - they do not care about loyalty. The only goal is to squeeze every dollar out of the customer while they have a chance. They have basically adopted the airlines' customer service model.

I have been to Lots of amazing spas all over the US....this was NOT one of them! I am sorry I wasted $225 for a facial--really and the Air was not even working while we were getting showers and changed. I mentioned it to the nice employee folding towels and a member of the club...they all said I should say something to management, because it has not been working for months--of course she was NOT there, but told the front end staff....IT WAS JUNE in FL--why would you not have the air going?

Such a waste of money...The only thing I have to say was my facial lady was super nice and I received a mimosa for my birthday!

The pools are nice. I think the rooms were newly renovated. Air quality in the room seemed a little musty.  Drive to Captiva island is about 30-40 min.  Food was okay, typical conference/ meeting catering for a big group.

Horrible hotel and I agree with most of the other reviews they don't care . On our first night we found out that they told us on the phone there is a microwave and a fridge in which they didn't and we needed them cause our new born was with us and needed to sanitize his bottles with something so after arguing the manager agreed to send us a small fridge to store the formula and a small microwave . Second night we decided to eat in the room the we ordered couple burgers my wife ordered a steak and a bottle of wine so when they delivered the food I asked if we ordered a bottle of wine and they said oops I forgot it and when they got it we sat down to eat my wife realized that there is no sauce on her steak and on the menu it said a red wine sauce it comes with we called them again and they were apologetic but by now the food was already cold and now it's colder so on an average 1 to 10 I give them a 3 on the food so on the third night we woke up went to the pool around 2:00PM started to rain so we came to our room and housekeeping came around 3 to do the room so we asked her to come back in an hour and we left in an hour and came back around 9:00PM to find out she didn't do anything so we called again and they were apologetic which was too late and promised they will do a better job tomorrow in which we are leaving in the morning so never again to this hotel in which we stayed before in so many Marriott but this is a first to us which was disappointing .

NEVER EVER stay in this property! I am a Lifetime Marriott Rewards member with more than 3,000,000 lifetime points and 1050 nights. This is the absolutely worst Marriott property, worldwide. If you expect basic customer service, clean hotel rooms, rudimentary hospitality in the restaurant, your expectations will not be met. Avoid this hotel at all costs.

This review is mainly for the spa.  I have been coming for about 10 years now, and always ask for Melanie***.  She is the best masseuse I have ever had, anywhere.  She is always attentive and proactive in her approach, which I appreciate.  She does exactly what you want.  The facilities are calming, relaxing, welcoming -- everything a spa should be.  I always arrive early and take advantage of everything -- the whirlpool, steam, sauna, pool, lounge area.  Afterward, go for a delicious lunch on the outside patio off the lobby of the hotel.  There is an amazing view of the pool and water, and it's a great way to end the day!

***No, no, no!!!  Melanie has moved away!  But the spa still rocks ..........

A great hotel.  I came here last week for a software conference and received pretty decent rates ($99 per night).  There is a $15 resort fee that basically covers your in room WIFI and a newspaper in the morning.  I ended up staying in one of the suites, really relaxing and comfortable.  There is a nice 42" Flat Screen HD TV in the room with about 25-30 cable channels.  The views of the Gulf were great.  Ended up one of the nights on the Sanibel Princess Yacht for a dinner cruise which was relaxing as well.

The hotel went over so well that the organizers are talking about coming back the following year.

Amazing!!! From the moment we arrived here we were treated with the best customer service we ever experienced and it did not end! Jim h. From Akron, Oh was our shuttle driver and he made sure we had everything we needed, from the best taxi service by Carlos to the best pool experience! We stayed in captiva tower and it was perfect! Much love too sanibel harbor Marriott!!! Muah!

Great Hotel....absolutely great.  I checked this out in anticipation of organizing a winter class reunion.  The rooms are nice, the views are great, the restaurants are good and the location is nice.  

It has not beach, but a great pool area and a few good restaurants on property choose from.

We live about 4 hours away and this is a perfect get-away.  We stayed 3 nights and wish we had stayed a week.  
Peggy in concierge did a wonderful job of directing us to restaurants and making other recommendations.  We were able to rent a boat right on their dock!
We were on the top floor with a beautiful view of everything.  
The pool was absolutely perfect, and the wifi was free!  
There is a very nicely supplied workout area as well.
If I had to make any suggestions it would be to not play the outdoor music at the same time you are showing kids movies at the pool.  You can't hear anything with both blaring loudly at the same time.
We will definately be revisiting here!

If you're a Marriott Rewards Platinum, don't expect anyone who works here to care.

I'm a Marriott Rewards Platinum member with 540+ nights in the last 5 years. My first impression of the hotel was great. The grounds look well maintained, the pools look excellent. It should be noted that we booked a room in the Sanibel Tower.

After I made my way to the room I was assigned, 968, I found that it was directly across the hallway from the elevator and that I could hear all noise from the elevators and people in the hallway. I'm not sure why you would pre-book one of your top tier elite members into a terrible room. We gathered our things and went back down to the desk, to request a new room. We were moved to another room, 688, which was fine.

For Marriott Platinum members, one of the benefits of staying at a Marriott is to be able to get a free amenity (your choice of points, food, drink, etc) at check-in.  I normally opt for points, but since I was on vacation, I requested wine & cheese. Immediately after we got to our room, I called the front desk to make sure that our food wouldn't get lost or placed in the wrong room.  I was assured that it would be fine. About 30 minutes later, I called down to ask why it had not been sent up and was told that it would be shortly. After another 30 minutes, I received a phone call apologizing for the delay and saying that the food would be up shortly. After ANOTHER 30 minutes (90 total), I still had not received anything and since I had dinner plans, I had to leave.  I left the room and told the front desk that I had waited too long and had to leave - I requested points instead. No apology from the front desk, either.

On the second day of my stay, I received a voicemail from the general manager, welcoming me as a Platinum member and inviting me to contact him with any questions. I returned the call and left a voicemail, describing what had happened. I never heard any response during my time at the hotel.

After I left, I sent an email to the hotel including everything above and received NO response. It's completely unbelievable and I have never received such poor service from a Marriott ever after calling and emailing.

The hotel charges a premium rate, I booked a premium room (Sanibel Tower/2Q/balcony), and I do not feel that I received service on par with the $2000+ that I spent. I'm deeply disappointed by the check-in experience and even more so by the lack of anyone caring. There were many people that could have corrected the situation along the way (in-room dining, front desk, general manager) and none seemed to care.

A lovely location, and wonderful amenities for hosting a business meeting, conference, baby or bridal shower!

The rooms are comfortable, but not luxurious enough to blow you away.

The signage for parking and valet is not very clear, so keep your barrings.

The view is breath taking if you catch the sunrise or sunset at just the right time to see the pink and gold sky!

If you are in search of the casual Island vibe, then this is the place to be. However, be prepared for a bit of a drive to the Island's restaurants and attractions.

Celebrating our anniversary, the hubby and I spent the weekend at this wonderful Resort.
The resort has everything u need for a romantic and relaxing stay. Starting with the breathtaking views, spacious and comfortable suites, spa, hammocks, private beach, 3 restaurants , to a small yacht option for dinner.  
We tried the Tarpon House for breakfast, the poolside restaurant for lunch and the bar at night for tapas and drinks. Overall a great experience!. The service was top notch! I can surely say our stay was a true delight.

Cha-ching cha-ching. Sadly, at every turn here there is an extra charge. Rather unexpected since this is the Gulf Coast of Florida and not New York or the East Coast.

Example 1: valet parking is $20 per day. Okay. No problem, we'll park it ourselves and walk. Sorry! SELF parking is $12 per day.

Example 2: we had a diet Pepsi (there was no Coke) from the bar in our room. Cost = $3.50. Fine. When we checked out, the rang it up for $4.45! Why? The tax couldn't possibly have been that much.

Example 3: The bill includes a "resort fee" of $15. This is in addition to the room charge. This is nothing more that a greedy attempt to make more money without disclosing it in the room charge. Not cool.

What else? The rooms are tired and need some serious upgrading. The coffee pot in the room works and will provide exactly one cup of caf and one cup of decaf. Okay.  But, they only provide one coffee cup and the plastic lid for it does not fit the cup.

The elevator door on the elevator looked like it had been through a fire or reclaimed from a salvage yard.

What keeps this place from a lowly one star is its truly stunning location and the outstanding flatbread carnivore pizza we had in the bar.

This place needs some help and a more sensible billing policy.

I felt like I was in a mini city, driving around this Marriott. Did not go in, but the staff I encountered were really friendly and helpful. I was picking up someone who happened to be doing an event at this Resort & Spa, and Sanibel Harbour was very accomodating.

Beautiful resort hotel right before the Sanibel Captiva toll road.
Pool area with cabana boys servicing you, private beaches and comfortable beds make this a great getaway for relaxation. We watched dolphins and beautiful sunsets from our deck, and utilized the 2 restaurants inside the hotel (one night for descent tapas and pizza and the next morning for a really good breakfast buffet for both reasonable prices). They could benefit from a little updating (the AC is outdated and can't really monitor the temperature and it'd be great if we had a jetted tub in our suite, but I'm spoiled). They minus a star for not cleaning our room until 5pm and by that time I told the maid not to waste her time and for the self-parking you have to pay for, that should definitely be included since you've got to pay $6 every time you want to drive over to Sanibel. Overall, it was a great time to relax and would definitely recommend it.

This is not Sanibel it's actually Fort Myers so learn from our lesson and read the details! Totally disappointed on how run down and old this property is for a premium Marriott property. The pool area and the gym are in really bad shape and rooms are not any better then a Holiday inn.
Also for not being in premium shape they have no problem charging premium The Ritz type prices. $150 for a 1hr massage that 5 minutes away at a much nicer salon you can get same for $80. Brunch buffet for 3 of us today $150 for average food. We will be eating much better food of property for much less.
I will say that the staff is very friendly and helpful but until they update this place and change more reasonable prices I would take my money elsewhere.

I am a Rewards Member and have been to many Marriott hotels. This one is old. Lobby is new and very nice.  Rooms are ok but you can just tell that the place is older.  Plumbing a little slow and funky.  A/C not as cold as is like.  Waterfront is really nice.  Parking garage is dated.  Just needs an overall upgrade.  Not the nicest one ever.  But not the worst.  Very close to Sanibel and Captiva which is a big plus.

Note that I am not well traveled. We went for my cousin's beach front wedding. I am a vegan, but went vegetarian for this weekend trip because any vegan friendly places were not close by.

I think many of the amenities are overcharged. Breakfast can cost $14, before any drinks. $5 for a glass of orange juice. Breakfast buffet costs $19 per person. Snacks in the mini bar are very expensive, $7 for gummy bears! We didn't buy anything from the mini bar. They also charge a service charge on top of the high item price. They charged us $12 per night for self parking when we didn't have a vehicle. The shops are also very expensive even for basics like sun screen. The spa is priced about right, still a little high but not terribly. They charge gratuity 23% for just about everything.

We went on the Princess Sunset yacht ride with buffet. $55 per person, but there were some expensive foods. I wish it had been more vegetarian/ vegan friendly, even the mac and cheese had crab in it. I ate many of the side items, salad, and blistered asparagus. The ride was lovely though with a great sunset.

Our room was nice with two queen size beds, restroom, and balcony overlooking the pool and Gulf of Mexico. The divide between carpet and tile flooring had a sharp bit in it, which we found rather quickly when we were barefoot. They also do a quick run of cleaning the room, I found garbage under one of the beds our first night... it stayed their all weekend. I looked because I was finding a shoe.

Customer service overall was fair. For the life of them they couldn't get our last name right, being a hotel I do not understand this. They take in people from all over the country, diversity in names shouldn't be so hard to deal with. They let me keep a bag in one of their freezers for breast milk storage, one of the connoisseurs would retrieve it for me every night.

We also had problems with the elevators and doors. If the air pressure was just wrong the elevator doors wouldn't close all the way. This kept them from moving. You also have to have the strength of an ox to open the doors to go in/ outside due to air pressure.

The spa was nice, we had a couples massage that felt very good. The place overall is lovely and well kept.

They have a Starbucks, although it's basic. Serves various pastries, fruit/ yogurt/ granola cups, and ice cream.

Cost of a taxi from the airport: $44 before tip.

Overall, we stayed here because this is where our cousin was getting married. We had fun, we spoiled ourselves rotten, and my cousin had a lovely wedding. Would we return? Probably not. The place is fair and not close to any other place to dine or visit without a taxi. I guess we're spoiled by having public transportation everywhere, and a bit too cheap to taxi all over the place.

It was Pretty

The staff moved me rooms in the morning, from one with a fridge to one without. I called ahead to make sure it would have one but instead all of my refrigerated items were left in a bag on my bed til i got in at 9pm that night. A mess.

The banquet staff was nowhere to be found. We would not get our rooms refreshed, or more coffee when we needed it, it was a nightmare.

Getting assistance for anything was a nightmare.

Its only saving grace is that it was pretty.

NOT a family vacation spot.    They have clearly geared their services for business clients.    Everything is overpriced, nothing convenient.    And housekeeping services sucked.   Be prepared to over pay for everything, including parking, which is $12 to self park,  and $20 To valet. Beautiful sunset views though.    Spa service was great, but the facility is just eh.

My wife and I planned our wedding at this place bc judging by the website it looked great, amazing in fact. We chose a marriott because I do a lot of traveling for work and always stay at Marriott brand and have always had great luck and service with them.

When we showed up we were in awe the hotel was beautiful. We checked in and had issues with our key cards as did all our wedding guests. First night wasn't bad we just went and found some of our locations for things and relaxed.

Second night the wife was complaining about bites on her legs I figured sand fleas, I've been bit by them before so I figured no big deal we will just use some spray or something when we went to their "beach."

3rd night I was getting bites, 4 night it was the same just worse. She called down and asked them to change the linen because we kept waking up with more and more. They changed the linen and no more bites.

The day of our wedding was a nightmare. My wife wanted to decorate and was told she could the day of the wedding. She was told the day of the wedding she couldn't decorate until 2-3 hours before the event. Well she had hair to get done and pictures so that was a no go. 2 hours later after some serious complaining they gave us a room to build our centerpieces and decorate our tables.

That's when we found out that the hotel had booked our reception room (the island room) for a party before our reception and that's why we couldn't get into the room. The staff told is to put the stuff together and the would set the room up and take it down for us. That didn't happen, we also had to take down our sand ceremony stuff and a couple other little things from the "beach" we got married. They took them once we got inside and told us we could get them in the morning (that took over an hour because the "misplaced them."

The officiant we used was on the approved vendor list at the start of the ceremony called my wife the wrong name. So it was the icing on the cake.

I will never stay at this hotel again. I suggest no one else ever stay there if your planning an event.

Stolen iPad charger from my room and when I brought the issue to the front desk, twice, I was mostly ignored. Not even a sorry.

I expected more from this hotel especially considering the circumstances.

Booked the Steakhouse for a group for Valentine's day.  Our reservation was for 8:00.. We got to the host at 7:50 and requested to be seated.  We were all dressed for the ocassion and when the host brought us to the "supposedly steakhouse" it ended up to be the "Tarpon room".  Not realizing that they had done that we sat down. We noticed that everyone around us was wearing jeans, etc.  We were totally overdressed..  Come to find out we weren't in the (steakhouse) fine dining area at all.  Didn't realize what they had done until we were already served our drinks, at which point, we decided to just stay where we were and not make a big deal of it,  but were very disappointed that our night wasn't as we had expected.. They need to pay better attention to their reservation lists.   I must say the food was pretty good, but don't think we'll be going back all to soon..

Hard for me to relate to the negative reviews.  Our stay was pretty close to perfect. It was our first stay here and we loved it.  The room was great and the food was very good.  We were glad the restaurants on site worked out b/c there aren't a lot of options nearby.  Tarpon House was consistently good during our stay.  Service was great throughout, including poolside.  Everything was very clean and the staff was obviously very well trained.  They were always pleasant, greeting us every time we encountered them and always asking if we need anything.  Free wi-fi was nice.  As for the location, its a pretty good spot on the bay.  its right next to the causeway that takes you over to Sannibel, so about 10 minutes from the beaches and great shell hunting.  we filled up a couple buckets.  For us, it was all good.  We'll be back.

Below average.  This hotel is off on its own, with nothing around, unless you drive over the bridge to Sanibel. Room was very spacious, but time for a remodel.  The $20/day for parking and $15 "resort fee" is enough for me to not stay again.

This is a beautiful hotel.
Very clean, and the staff were friendly.

Upon checkin, we were put in a two queen bed room when we requested one king bed. We immediately went downstairs to notify the front desk and they were so accommodating they upgraded our room.

The room had a gorgeous sunset view and was very clean. We had no issues.

We were planning on going on the Princess cruise but it is only available on the weekends.

The next morning we had a buffet style breakfast down at one of the restaurants. It was superb. A lot of variety and our waitress was the sweetest.

It does cost $12 to self park and $20 to valet but overall it was a pleasant experience and we would definitely return here.

First -- don't be fooled.  This hotel is NOT on Sanibel, it is in Ft. Myers and overlooks Sanibel.  The good part is you don't have to pay the $6 toll to go over the bridge to Sanibel.  The bad part is there are no beaches here.

The hotel itself is beautiful.  Very modern and well-kept.  The views of Sanibel harbor are fantastic.  I love the atmosphere here -- with lots of windows and balconies overlooking the intracoastal waterway.

The rooms were nice and modern -- pretty upscale.  Furniture and bedding were very nice.  Great towels.

The staff is exceptionally friendly and eager to please.  

Garage parking is nice -- whether you valet or self-park.

All in all, this is a very nice resort hotel.  I would definitely stay here again.

Worse experience ever, we booked two conecting rooms in the main building, and when we got there the told us that the did not had anything on that building and that what we was not enoght and the maneger nanmed nick went to the expidia web where we booked to see for how much they have their room there , when we had booked our rooms a week before and their rate ware highier when we ask why he was wasting time looking for what we had paid he said that he wanted to educating us about their rooms rate wish was so innapropiated and unprofectional of him he was soo rude , then he offer a different building and a room with a conecting suite we got there and had to go back because there there was not suite niether conected durty room ,so he said that he had made a mistake and he finally give us the conecting room whish one we had to wait for them to clean.
 The pool sitting area couches at the entrace are durty with are belive is rat poop or some kind of animal the floor is durty and the couch are stain it loocked like a abandon building rooms are dusty.  Tha manager experience was careless about his guess ,his job and the hotel it sad sad .

Place is ok, although I agree with other comments, this property is not conveniently located near the beaches.
Staff in general is great, but the ones serving at the pool bar; who are extremely rude and look like they hate their jobs.

This resort is amazing!

We went for the princess cruise boat dinner.

Valet parking is perfect!

The pool area is legit! They even have a pool. Lift in for people with disabilities which is such an amazing amenity.

The grounds are clean and amazing!

I'd love to come back and stay here sometime and relax!!!

I imagine the spa is amazing!

The hotel had a beautiful view. However, we had to switch to three different rooms throughout our stay because we found extensive MOLD in the showers, air vents, ceiling, under the bed and in the sinks. We were extremely dissatisfied with our stay especially considering the price. I would recommend going there for the pool not the room. We stayed in the Captiva Tower which seemed older than the main area. Please check your room before you sleep in it.

This hotel needs quite a bit of work, but it is a favored place to stay when I'm in Fort Myers for business.

The positives include the enormity of the resort and the number of things you can do. There are several suitable dining options at the resort, including a steakhouse, a seafood restaurant, and a cabana bar/restaurant. There is a jogging/nature trail with amazing photo opportunities. The property is 85 acres in total, much of it navigable by foot and a delight for nature lovers. There are multiple pools, basketball courts, tennis courts, spas, and a nice-sized gym. The lobby is beautiful.

What keeps me coming back is the hospitality and the location. The management and staff at this resort make you feel welcome and important. The hotel was enormously accommodating to a request for a late checkout when I brought my family with me and needed time for my meeting to finish and get back to pick my family up and check out.  

The location, next to Sanibel Harbour, is excellent. You will not see many Southwest Florida sunsets more captivating than the ones you can see at this resort. Usually, my business takes me several miles away from the property, with several other hotel options available, but the Sanibel Harbour Marriott feels like a true escape from the stresses of work. It is secluded and remote, yet also not far from Fort Myers Beach and Tamiami Trail.

So why three stars? Although some of the furnishings are fairly modern, it masks that the rooms, AC, and bathrooms are in need of renovation. The housekeeping is spotty - I do not think they change your bedsheets between days. The spa/basketball court/tennis court/gym area is also in need of an upgrade.

That said, on the whole, it is a very pleasant experience staying here.

Beautiful property but poolside service lacking attention. Staff preferred to socialize among themselves. Put flags up for service with out any notice then asked the towel guy walking by to send server. After ordering she still failed to check on us. This is confusing to me since their salary depends on tips. Not the service I would expect from a Marriott property

Quiet getaway here with wife for January weekend.  Staff very friendly and attentive. Stayed in the tower which we had to walk to, because we wanted bigger room, bigger bed, fridge, and microwave. Great view of bridge and sunset.  Our room initially had a funky smell but they came and changed the a/c filter and that solved it. Rooms are a little dated and i expected a little nicer for the price, but it was servicable. Pillows were small and super soft, we had to request more.

The main pool area is nice and relaxing, and the gym was pretty large...had all equipment that a full gym would. We were hoping to get massages but after seeing the prices, we weren't prepared to take out a second mortgage to get the expensive service.  I'll say it again, all staff were very nice.

Great views, great pools, great restaurants, great atmosphere!  This is a legit Marriott property.  We came in via boat, harbor is nice and half moon shaped with a good breakwater to keep it calm when the winds pick up or wakes from the nearby channel roll in.  Overnight dock fees were a little overpriced.  Both pools are very clean and well kept, hot tub is huge!  Wrap around porch offers length-of-hotel outdoor seating in a relaxed atmosphere.
Water view is worth the couple extra bucks per night = great sunsets from your balcony.  Room was clean, but typical behind the bathroom door area was not.  We had housekeeping do a little extra cleaning after we reported it and also found a cottage cheese container in the mini fridge.  Housekeeping needed a little more attention to detail or I would easily give this hotel a five star rating.

I visited my daughter, son in law and granddaughter in fort Myers and stayed here for a week for the fifth time and can't say enough good things about it and their remarkable staff
It was a cold week on December so I should have been miserable
It was only warm enough to be in the pool for less than an hour a day
But the facilities are fantastic, the pools and room Lovely and the grounds remarkable
I always love my stays here and the staff always makes it perfect

Terrible. We are Marriott Rewards members, and have stayed at Marriotts all over the globe. This one is by far the worst. We checked into our room, which is not in the main building. We don't have a fitness facility in this building, so I'll have to walk to it (which is fine) but we also have a tiny pool, while the other building has two. From what I have seen, no one even works in this building to greet you or give you restaurant recommendations, you have to go all the way to the main building to talk to anyone. First, I got into the shower to find hair balls on the shower curtains. Also, the bleach they used in the tub was so strong that my eyes started burning and I had to get out very quickly. Then, we laid down to go to bed feeling a sheet wrapping around our feet? So we checked and its a queen size fitted sheet on a king size bed. Obviously does not fit, you can't even get it to touch the corners of the bed, and they just left it like that? And put the comforter on top. So I called down and the guy said "We don't have house keeping on duty right now. I can send security up to give you a king size sheet." I asked if that means I have to make my own bed while I'm paying well over $250 a night to stay here. Yep. There is no snack bar or fridge in the room, and the room overall is very dirty. Also, it's not close to anything! Makes us want to switch to Hilton properties.

This joint clearly sucked, I'm fully in agreement with other negative reviews here.

House keeping is a joke. You call "at your service" line, takes several calls in short 4 hours to get a towel delivered...on what is considered slow hour at under 60% capacity hotel.

Hotel claims "Marriott resort" which translates as they would charge for air if they could. Room lacks some basic amenities.

Because this place is "resort", there is no concierge floor or marriott member incentives. Marriott resort is a new name for motel 6 in marriott group.

Concierge desk is completely out of touch with outside world, if the hotel has "Sanibel" on name, know what's going on in Sanibel! Not all guests would want to spend $150 for an hour spa at hotel.

Pool section is big, but packed with all the poor mannered guests fighting with hotel security and other guests for a reclining chairs... (So ghetto). Pool...don't put your face down in there, it's nastier than Hudson river. Pool area has tiki bar and all, but food was awful. Service was fast though.

Yes this is a conference / biz oriented hotel where people are expected to get shit faced on over priced liquor and get nails done at 11:00 in the morning on corporate dime. But as a "resort", this is total failure and wouldn't want to take family here.

What saves from zero star is the good people working here, Jim the van driver is hardest working guy, and ladies working in kids activities, they are saints. All the rest needs to think career change, not knowing what's happening in town, especially like a basic thing like Fourth of July event makes them look so unprofessional.

Wow. I loved this hotel. The staff was great and the room was incredible (1073). We had a gorgeous view and a huge sitting area. When you entered the hotel, the beachy aroma alone made me want to come back again. The Tarpon Dining Room had excellent food. I also had snacks and drinks at the bar overlooking the ocean. What a view. The food was excellent. The sunsets were beyond amazing.

My only small complaint was that both my mother and I felt there was NO alcohol (and I mean NONE) in the drinks we ordered.  We did not complain because the waitress was very busy and we just did not care that much.    

I would stay at this resort again in a heartbeat.

The resort and spa are quite nice, and can be recommended.

Room service and attending qualities are dreadful and cannot be recommended.  We called the concierge to ask for a corkscrew ... which never arrived.  

Then we ordered room service, which took 90 minutes to arrive and the order was incomplete (i.e. sauces and dressings left off).  Indeed, the food arrived quite cold, and beyond all of those maladies it was not of good quality.

We had an EXCELLENT experience here. EVERYTHING was perfect from staff to rooms to ambiance. You can't go wrong with this little gem just off the island. I liked how close it was to Sanibel but you didn't have to pay the toll every time you want to leave the hotel. That was pretty cool.

I am surprised that so many people say that this place needs work. Although I do have to say that the spa and tennis area could use a reno I can't say that about the rest of the place. Our room was nicely appointed and up to date. Best of all it was CLEAN! The bed was ultra comfortable and the TV was great. We had a wonderful ocean view which we really enjoyed. The pool was beautiful and well maintained.

What really impressed us was the service. Most of the staff what we encountered was great. The front desk staff were all friendly and they were able to accommodate us with a late checkout without even batting an eyelash. I was stung by a yellow jacket at the pool and the bartender rushed to get me Benadryl. He made sure I was ok and was very kind. The front desk staff went above and beyond by allowing us an even later checkout and getting me ice bags and making sure that I had everything I needed. They really went above and beyond.

I am extremely picky when it comes to not only hotels but service as well. I am not liberal with my stars so giving this hotel a 5 really says something. I don't think this place will disappoint...at least it did not disappoint us.

We were disappointed by what looked like an awesome resort. We are both very frequent business & pleasure travelers, and have stayed at all types of rooms in North America, Western Europe & Asia, but this is the only room I've ever had missing basic things like two soaps (we expected one for bath and one for sink), more than one wastebasket (only a very small one in bathroom), and not ever a spare role of toilet paper!
The resort itself is beautiful and we enjoined long walks around the property. Our room in the Captiva tower was the equivalent of an average Hampton Inn. (even down to a parking lot view & a dirty coffee machine), but I would expect the main building to have much better rooms as the lobby was five star.

Does this resort and spa appear to be nice? Absolutely.

However, room service, housekeeping, and concierge were disappointing to say the least.  

When we arrived, there was not a single person to help me with my bag up the stairs, as there was no ramp. When I checked in, they didn't have my room ready. They said they'd call when it was, but never did.

Housekeeping never changed the sheets or made the bed during my stay... I didn't realize I needed to make my bed each morning! There was dirt on the other bed, and the floor was not vacuumed.

I called room service for dinner one evening. I told the woman on the phone I wanted to order from the kids menu -  she proceeded to laugh and then scold me for ordering from that menu. I thought she was kidding so I laughed it off, but come to find out she was very serious. For paying a pretty penny for the room, I didn't realize I wasn't allowed to order what I wanted for dinner.

The conference rooms during our meetings were nice, and the breakfasts and lunches were a nice spread for different tastes in the room. Outside the resort was nice, but oddly placed. You almost got a workout in just to get to the fitness facility! Pools were nice, just wish there was more of a beach area like the condos next to the hotel.

Very beautiful on initial appearance/impression, but once you start to look closer the cracks show. Undoubtedly the location is great and a lot of the amenities are lovely but for me and wifey, it was the details that mattered.


*Getting a room with two uncomfortable queen beds instead of the king we requested (and booked) months in advance. we did not sleep well
*Coming into the bathroom and seeing, first thing, a clogged sink
*Crappy A/C unit that was either way too hot/nonfunctional or freezing cold
*Paltry amounts or missing toiletries - NO soap, no backup TP. Luckily we were only staying one night...
*Pathetic food options (especially late night). I'm under the opinion that all inclusives/resorts should have at the LEAST, sandwiches, pizza, etc available past midnight. Considering that the surrounding area closes early, this is unacceptable
*Attendants continually harassing people from the wedding group during breakfast the morning after the wedding, asking for vouchers and room cards. Many were asked multiple times (including members of the bridal party who were none too pleased) and people were definitely taking notice. Considering we were all eating in a separate dining area and the wedding group was provided with breakfast as part of the deal, this was completely unnecessary. The groom's father took note and was annoyed.

Luckily we booked our lone night on points. If we'd paid real money (even at the wedding group rate) I'd be pretty upset because it is not cheap to stay here. You do better booking elsewhere.

I thought the service was fantastic (aside from the girl at charlies who though  nice, made a complete mess when it came time to pay--not closing out correctly, swiping card a few times, ended up having to make a room charge. At the end of the night we thought all was fixed, only to realize that our final hotel bill reflected someone else's food charges, not ours. This woman was very sweet and all, but her mistake would have costed us about $15 had we not checked).

Remaining staff was very polite, went the extra mile to please everyone in our group, was attentive at every turn.

Some examples:
-We stayed at captiva tower. They young man at the bell stand offered us a cooler, chairs, toys for kids, umbrellas, for us to use while at the beach. Great EXTRA nice touch.
-Gentleman who drove us to and from main hotel to captiva was funny/nice
-Pool staff brought out an umbrella for us (side pool at main resort area) when he saw we had kids and no umbrella.

The food at the hotel was priced adequately, but portions were small for the price. Examples:

-Fish tacos (pool side) were about $14 and only brought two. Ended up returning them.
-Lobster quesadillas (charlie's) about $15 were great tasting but very small
-Chicken pizza (charlies) about $15 was great tasting but very small

Main hotel: bathrooms were not kept up. The bathroom near charlies had paper towels all over the floor, this can be solved with putting in larger trash bins.

The pools could use a renovation for sure. The hotel has some amazing views, but definitely needs a facelift in pool areas.

Rooms: Clean, spacious. Nice decor. Free coffee at lobby of captive until 12pm.

For the price of stay, I wish that the hotel was more "up to date" on amenities such as pool/ food quality. The staff and great view were the main reason why my stay was pleasurable.
