Beautiful room, spacious, clean & wonderful HD TV.  Shower was fantastic.  Wish we could have stayed longer.  Quiet, no problems or issues at all.  Don't know what everyone else is complaining about.  I travel for business  so I'm on the road at least once a month - this is a really nice hotel.

This hotel has the MOST comfortable beds I've EVER experienced at a Hilton.  Yay to memory foam!  Plus, it has an incredibly friendly concierge who shared his story about his time in the Air Force with me. ;)  Well, that and information about the nearest casino cruise!

I stayed at the Crowne three times in three consecutive months. All three times my bill was correct at check out, only for extra charges to be added afterwards. The extra charges included the complimentary breakfast, is it really complimentary if you pay for it.. and once the total cost of my stay was duplicated. The charges were corrected, after time, but this was a corporate accounting nightmare. The rooms were ok and the breakfast was good. I still travel to the area once a month. I just choose stay someplace else.

Horrible hotel!

Wednesday, March 9th I checked into the Crowne Plaza hotel in Jacksonville, FL on the south bank. When I got in my room I was disgusted with the disrepair of facilities. Room 712 had a number of issues including:
- Mold on the ceiling in the bathroom above the shower
- A broken desk chair that had you leaning back
- The smell of cigarette smoke in a non-smoking room

I was also irritated to find that:
- The hotel doesn't provide insulated cups to take a cup of coffee with you when you're running out the door in the morning.
- When I ordered pizza in because it was pouring down rain the front desk wouldn't let the delivery driver bring it to my room. Also, the front desk wouldn't call up to my room to let me know my food was there. The driver had to call me (long distance) on my cell so I could come downstairs to get it.
- When I came back Thursday my room had been cleaned but the tissues hadn't been restocked and the coffee pot still had coffee in it from that morning, without fresh coffee grounds for the following morning.
- Lastly, at the time of my check in the woman at the front desk asked me if I needed a late checkout. I told her 1:00 on Friday and when I went down to confirm on Friday morning before heading to my meeting I was told it wasn't noted.

All in all, this was the worst experience I've had with a hotel within the Intercontinental Hotel Group. I was lead to believe that this was un upstanding hotel but it's more of a trashy Holiday Inn.

I have to say...  Over a week later now and the above was sent to their corporate office and all I got was a form letter response stating they were sorry.  Save your time and your money...  The Hampton Inn is two blocks over and half the price.

The Crowne Plaza in Jacksonville was a really solid property. Having stayed at a variety of Crowne's around the Southeast, I can say confidently that this was very much in line with a typical Crowne.

The major plus was the restaurant - the American Grille was really tasty, and of course, the fact that they have a Ruth's Chris in their lobby is amazing!

I would definitely recommend this hotel if you are looking for a good deal on the river.

Needs renovation really bad.

Front door guys know good place to eat, very knowledgeable and I give them five stars. Front desk was friendly, but thier knowledge of city was not as good as front door boys.

What led town was the lame gift shop who won't let me charge to my room, and old old old room.

Make sure to book and ask for rivew view. My reservation was made for rivew view but when I got to my room it was th ugly road side. They didn't have other room ready yet, so I ended up with ugly view. Oh well.

A good rate for a downtown hotel.  It has a great view and the room was fine for the low cost.  Not luxury - but a good rate for a downtown hotel.

As the first yelper here, let me share my pre-dinner debate of staying in the tub or getting steak and lobster downstairs at Ruth Chris' Steakhouse.  The tub wasn't bad, but dinner on the river called, and great that I didn't have to leave the hotel, which is one of the reasons I choose this hotel.  The other reasons for choosing this hotel were:

-Free Wifi (which seems to be hard to come by in hotels around here)
-View of skyline (the hotel is not downtown, but faces downtown
-Potential for being quieter since it isn't downtown, and being from Atlanta, we have lots of weird people on the street and I figured this would minimize that problem, just in case.

So considering all that, it was pretty nice.  It was definitely worth paying extra for the river view, and they kindly gave me a room on the top floor, though it still seemed overpriced. I used my AAA discount, which did help.  And, I saw the drawbridge go up and that just about made it worthwhile.   But beware that there is about $15-20 in taxes that isn't factored into your rate until check out, either.

There is some traffic noise on the river side from the bridge, but the curtains help some and they do provide earplugs, but if you need to provide them, that is somewhat of an issue.  I could hear hallway noise fairly well too

As far as the room itself, the wallpaper seems a little outdated and the bathroom was ok...not super large, but functional.  The TV is a little old...not flatscreen, though I don't stay in hotels very often and don't know how updated these places should be.  My hotel in Sedona was bigger and nicer and about the same price, just saying.

The gym is really less than ideal...very small and not any mats or balls for core, but just a couple cardio machines and some combination weight machines that looked a bit confusing.  The pool is also much smaller than the picture portrays, not the warmest even though it is heated, and no jacuzzi, which would be nice.  And the Ruth Chris steakhouse bar overlooks the pool, so you might have some extra eyes on you while you take a dip.

What is really nice is that the river taxi stops just outside the hotel (which goes across the river to downtown) and there is a wonderfully quaint wooden riverwalk that runs by the hotel and the river.  The MOSH science/history museum and the maritime museum are also in walking distance, and you can also walk across the bridge to downtown too.  I guess you are paying overall for the location and view. So, depending on what you're looking for and what amenities, the hotel may or may not be right for you.

The more accurate rating of hotel is 3.5 stars.  The view is nice, but it seems a little overpriced, especially as the only high quality amenities are the view, restaurant and riverwalk (well, and Internet), and less of your typical hotel perks like nice gym and pool facilities.

The other hotel I considered after research was the Hyatt Regency just across the water if you want to explore another riverfront hotel.

The front-desk staff was really nice.  The bed was pretty good but I am not convinced that it is a Tempurpedic like they advertised (if so, it's the thinnest memory foam mattress I've ever seen.)  The whole hotel is really beginning to show its age.  There was mold all over the ceiling in the bathroom (room 508).  The desk in the room was a little too large are placed in an inconvenient place.  There was no refrigerator or microwave (something I think any hotel at this price range should have; the Best Western we stayed at the night before was $50 cheaper for the night and had both.)  The view of the river is really nice so stay on that side if possible, although chairs on the balcony would have been nice.

Had a just fine experience staying here for work recently.  Front desk staff were friendly and efficient, room as clean and in good shape, had a great river view, breakfast was okay, servers at breakfast were outstanding.  It did not blow my doors off, but it was solid.  I was very impressed to find free wi-fi.  You don't see that very often these days in hotels like this.  That was a very nice unexpected bonus.  I'd probably stay here again.

This is a Crowne Plaza. That means it was once upscale, but hasn't been remodeled, updated, or refurbished in years. There are tears in the furniture, scuffs in the walls, and everything looks sort of dingy. The whole building looks a little sad.

But, it's still a good bet for downtown Jacksonville. The location is great, right along the water, it seems safe at night, it's easy to get to, and there are plenty of dinner options nearby. And, the WiFi is by far the very best I've ever had in a hotel - 10Mbps down, 7Mbps up, great ping times, strong signal, free, and no annoying logins.

Unfortunately, the walls are very thin (surprised my neighbor was watching *that* at 5:15am) and the pipes are noisy. So, not perfect.

For $60 a night, though, will likely stay here again.

The first night was good. However the second night had some rowdy people screaming at 3am and no one came to stop it. It went on for about an hour and was ridiculous. Could hear entire conversation through the wall as well as some cranked up music. At one point I even heard someone say "we have no neighbors". I think people should know that at 3am in a hotel is not when you scream and carry on, you always have neighbors, be courteous. This may not be the hotels fault, however very thin walls if I could hear them so clearly. Also they charge for self parking as well as valet and there's no way around it, should be built into the price, not a hidden fee. Most likely would have stayed some where else had we known it would be an extra 28 tacked on.

This is a very wonderful hotel! Nice pool, bar, Starbucks Coffee post, everything was great here! I stayed two days. The underground parking is nice and keeps your vehicles cool and protected! My only complaint, was the ice machine did not work on my floor. My room view was the Fountain! Beautiful. $25.00 for a fridge, and $20.00 extra for pool view room. They also have a breakfast buffet for $13.00. I did not go. My other complaint was I ordered room service (breakfast), a fruit dish. It had three pieces of cantelope and an apple. I guess they ran out of fruit. I ordered late. I should of rejected the fruit.

Terrible customer service! I booked to stay here via their website, in my distraction I didn't review the dates. Upon receiving the confirmation email and noting my mistake, I IMMEDIATELY called the hotel to change the date. (within minutes of booking!)
Not only were they unable and UNWILLING to change the date, the cancellation of the reservation cost me the FULL NIGHTS RATE! I am utterly disappointed that a compromise was not made. I understand I made the mistake on booking the date, but to not be able to change it or cancel it is unacceptable! I WILL NEVER DEAL WITH CROWNE PLAZA AND ENCOURAGE OTHERS NOT TO EITHER

The location is good and parking under the building for $10 is not bad. I stayed here for a work trip and received the per diem rate, so I never expect to get a priority room. The room was fine for the night, but I would not want to stay here for personal travel.

The walls are very thin like other reviewers said, but also the door did not fit properly and light could be seen through all door cracks. At one point a woman had a cell phone conversation in the hall and I heard every word. The patio door did not lock securely and was retrofitted with a lock lever screwed into the door. The hotel needs a renovation. There was mildew on the ceiling above the shower and the walls and furniture are all badly worn.

The gym was less than desirable. The breakfast buffet was fine, I only ate there because I had an early meeting.

Overall if I kept with IHG I would rather stay in a newer holiday inn express.

The staff is are great, the location is amazing.  But you can tell it needs to be Renovated.  It needs some TLC, from the pool to the halls, the lobby,  to the bathrooms and rooms themselves.  But I did like it here.  The view is beautiful  and go for a walk!  I walked over the bridge and had an amazing time while I was here (only 1 day).  It is the second time I've stayed here and I will come back again.  Don't forget to go to Ruth's steakhouse, that place is amazing.

I picked the Crown Plaza to stay at on this years trip to Jacksonville to Welcome to Rockville. When I checked in the clerk told me she put me in one of their newly remodeled rooms. I opened the door and OMG it was immaculate. Everything was new, carpets were new, beds were so comfortable and new. The gorgeous renovated bathroom was perfect. There wasn't one bad thing I could say about my room. I really applaud the Crown Plaza for what their doing at the hotel. Yes there is a lot of construction going on in the area but at least the Crown Plaza are remodeling, trying to make our experiences great. I say they succeeded. There was this little balcony you could walk out on, look out at the city at night. It was just gorgeous.I loved the fact that there was a Starbucks in the lobby. The American grill is a great place to eat. I loved the River Taxi, it's such a great way to get around downtown. And it's so relaxing.

I made a business class reservation for a river view room with a king bed. When I checked I they had no river view rooms left. I guess house keeping didn't get the memo. Then the room they gave me was too far from the wi-fi signal to get a usable Internet connection. Ok so the end of the hall is very quiet but no internet. So much for business.

Other than that, well the staff seems to want to help what little there is. They comped me some freebies to make up for the room. The place is pretty empty - no surprise. I would have been better off paying a bit more for a room on the north side of the river. Next time I'll try the Omni. I won't be back here.

The great part: the pool where no music was playing, a breeze was blowing from the river, and giant fish fountains were emitting sparkling streams.  I could choose sun or shade and plug in my cell phone and practice qigong in peace. More great parts-- a nice business area with multiple tables (sometimes they are teeny and crowded) very nice staff, better breakfast than the one in Orlando, though it was ostensibly the same, it was just better.  Parking underneath with an easy entrance to the hotel. Would totally go here again, it was good.

Oh pretty views from the pool area, sea birds, water, boats. The adjacent boardwalk was cool, a good place to exercise. Felt safe here.

I've stayed at the Crowne Plaza a number of times for work.  When I had to travel to Jacksonville I was working downtown and this is a short hop across the bridge to work.

On the plus side the location seems safe, the lobby is nice, the rooms are nice (if showing some age) and so are the staff.  The rooms on the river side also have a great view of the city.   They have on side parking so you can easily park in the garage and get to your car.  Also, if you have enough points they do have the extra special high points people stuff like the happy hour (I forget which day of the week).

They have a good breakfast buffet and Starbucks coffee downstairs as well as Ruth Chris restaurant for dinner.   Personally I'm not a fan of American steakhouses like Ruth Chris but hey it is good for that kind of food if you like it.

On the minus side there is almost never a fridge in your room, the walls are thin, and the sliding glass doors on the bridge side don't block the whir whir noise when people drive over the bridge.  Of course, a lot of hotels have thin walls so this isn't unique to the Crowne Plaza.

This place was chosen for me for accommodation and I was very impressed. I loved that it's right by the waterfront, which had a nice small boardwalk running along it.

The rooms are big and clean. Odd that there was no mini fridge in there though.

The hotel food was decent. It's hotel food after all.

Service was great. Easy to check in and out.

I found a cockroach crawling through on the carpet on my last night there. I was told that it's a running joke that it's Florida's state bird. Um, ok but seriously, fix it. I'm not that grossed out by roaches but it does say something about their sanitation.

I thought Crown Plazas were supposed to be nice hotels. The one I stayed in in Orlando was exceptionally nice! This one however, is substandard. It's old, which is ok, but it is not up to par with the Crown name. It's not updated in the least. It does not appear to be clean at all. If you open the balcony door good luck getting it closed again! The bed is like quicksand...good luck getting out of it or even turning over on it! I would never stay here again!

Cracked marble, slow draining tub, decent views if request one.  OK outdoor pool and couple tolerable dining options but backup plan at best for Downtown Jacksonville accommodations.  I'd hoped the three star reviews were wrong but actually it is generous in my opinion...

My guy and I chose this hotel for a quick Birthday Getaway due to his raving about the Shrimp and Grits that he had here....last year. I booked a Riverfront King room and was blown away by the view we got. We ordered room service once we arrived and he absolutely loved the Shrimp and Grits. I got the Triple Play or whatever it's called: Potato Skins, Mozzarella Sticks, and Chicken Tenders. They were very, very good. The woman who took our order and delivered was extremely nice. As a matter of fact, the entire staff was very nice. The bed and bathroom were clean. The bed was a dream to sleep in. We also had breakfast added to our stay, and the buffet was very good on both days we were there. My only issues: The elevators smelled like swamp. Ew. The River walk near the hotel was closed due to renovation. I don't think the hotel had anything to do with that, though. Overall, I definitely enjoyed our stay and look forward to coming back.

I'll overlook all the petty gripes that were swirling in my head and highlight a few good points. My room was facing the river and the view of the Acosta Bridge was a pretty sight and the comfort of my bed was all I needed to put me at ease after a week of long days at the office. I'm just not sure I will ever stay here again. I'm a night person and for some reason this part of town turns down way too early for me.

Of all the staff I encountered during my stay, Melissa was the most courteous and engaging. I explained my mishap with apple pie a la mode on a night I was having a sweet tooth and she insisted on complimentary cocktail on the house. I didn't dispute the offer because that would be rude. She was a gem.

This review is solely based on the decor and cleanliness of the hotel. I noticed while walking to the check in desk that the elevator doors was horribly ugly. It's an awful gold color. They need  to totally revamp the decor in the hotel and modernize it a bit. I'm just going to list all the wrongs in this hotel:
1. The bathroom had rust on the handle in the shower
2. The glasses on the table were dirty and had water in them
3. The headboards are super small...almost child like or for a twin size bed
4. The bed was super uncomfortable, the middle on the mattress was sinking
5. Construction noises

Good thing we were only staying one night

OK so I'm gonna go ahead and update this. After we'd expressed some disappointment we were moved up to one of the top floors where the rooms had been renovated. Much much better. Of our 7 hotels in a 12 day trip, the bed here was one of the most comfortable. We had a river view and could see the Jaguar stadium and the city skyline. The Landing area is across the bridge, where there are a lot of little restaurants and shops. We went to the San Marcos area - easy to get to from the hotel. Don't take the private cabs in front of the hotel- just call a regular cab company. It is cheaper.  The river walk path is right outside the hotel as is the water taxi. Room service was very accommodating and when we were leaving they were there in a flash to get our bags. Parking was easy. For the value, this is a really good  place to stay and if I am back in Jacksonville, I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. It is not luxury like the Ritz but it is all you need in a great location for a great price.

So our game booked a room for the night while staying in Jacksonville and to our great surprise our first room was just nasty. Staining on the walls, roof, wallpaper peeling off the walls, the business leather chair was ripped, room smelled funky, and the list goes on.

However I did go down to the lobby and explain our situation and they placed us in a newer renovated room. So yes they made us happy. But not sure if we would stay at this hotel again.

No kids channels for the little ones (cartoon network, Nick, Disney, Etc)

Update **

So after being moved to another room which was updated, the shower (tub) was completely blocked up, and the plumbing in the sink was blocked up and caused a mini flood in our bathroom. Our experience was just flat out ruined and will not stay at a Crowne Plaza ever again.

I have to say the customer service here and the location are awesome. We were greeted by a very nice lady who graciously accommodated our requests. The hotel is situated on a dock where you can take the river taxi to nearby restaurants. The location really cannot get better than this. The customer service rivals that of some nicer hotels.

The rooms, oh boy, here is where it gets a one star rating. We upgraded to the executive junior suite and it was awful. The fixtures and furniture were horribly disgusting and the bathroom made me want to take another bath. I could not believe the rooms were in such poor condition. The bathroom had a glass door that made me believe it was going to crash down at any moment. The amount of mildew and calcium buildups were inexcusable. The beds had dirt in between the sheets but the mattress was fairly comfortable.

We were traveling with a family who reserved four rooms all together. Two of the rooms had updated bathrooms but similar main rooms. The third room was completely renovated. The bathrooms had slate tiles with modern upgrades and the main room was completely refinished with new carpet and tile on the balcony. Unfortunately we can only speak about the room we had to stay in and it was none of the above. We want to rate this hotel higher because of the exceptional customer service but just cannot based on the quality of the rooms.

A perfectly reasonable, mostly(?) renovated albeit still dated, hotel right in the middle of Jax.  My room was fine, with a renovated bathroom, new everything (no stains, smells, peeling wallpaper, etc as mentioned in other reviews), and what I think was a posture-pedic bed mattress.  Odd choice for a hotel bed, but I did sleep well.

Tip.  At the breakfast buffet, order an omelette or pancakes from the kitchen; they are included in the price.  Service was good overall.  There's no way I can give this place five stars, but certainly a comfortable convenient enough place to stay in Jax.

We booked this hotel for a night and I thought it was going to be a beautiful room for the price. The location is perfect if you have plans for downtown Jacksonville and the view was gorgeous, but that was it. When I went to open the door with my key it was shakey making it seem that the door was not a good fit for that entryway. The restroom did not have any counter space and there was some shoddy work done in there. The chair that was in there to relax on was not comfortable at all and they chair at the desk so cheap and uncomfortable. The view for our room was beautiful we slept on the 10th floor and they had a balcony which would be nice in the summer. Overall would not stay there on my next visit to Jacksonville.

I had a great stay. The front desk staff was extremely accommodating and hospitable. I asked to have my room moved, because I was displeased with the view I had from my first room. The hotel staff was really busy with other guest and multiple large conferences when I checked in, however the front desk staff still found time to accommodate my needs. The view of downtown Jacksonville is amazing from the Crowne Plaza, and the fact that I also got great service with it made it an even better stay for me. The rooms were clean, and had a pleasant smell upon entering. The beds were also really comfortable. I would definitely stay here again or recommend to my friends and family.

No early check in (very rude about it), got in to the room and the bathroom was still not clean and I stepped into the shower and got a piece of glass stuck in my foot. Looked down to notice additional glass in the bottom of the shower.
Notified the front desk, got some hydrogen peroxide and a band aid,
Left for dinner arrived back and guess what bathroom is still not clean.

It's very rare I have an occasion to stay in a hotel in the city I live in. Moonbeam Bash ( yelp.com/biz/yelps-moonb… ) was definitely one of those occasions. Check in was a breeze and I made my way up to my room to drop off my stuff.

I did appreciate the parking garage being under the hotel, making it accessible from the elevator. Typically self park is NOT that convenient. I wasn't on the river side, but the view of the Southbank buildings was nice from my balcony. The bathroom was smaller than some hotels I've stayed in, but since I was only there for one night it would suffice

I've stayed in nicer Crowne Plazas, but it looks like this one is definitely undergoing some renovations. Definitely a hotel I'll keep on my radar when needing a crash pad downtown.

Why 5 stars? Because it was everything I needed.

  ---   ---   ---

Either the room I stayed in had some intense reservations done, or I just have a different taste in hotels than most.

My room was shockingly inexpensive when you take into account the swankiness, the central location, and the view of the water/downtown. For any future trip to Jacksonville, it will be hard to avoid staying at the Crowne Plaza again.

There's even covered self-parking. It may have been free, but it certainly wasn't a memorable expense... so let's go with cheap or free! Score again!

Why is this hotel rated 3 stars?

We stayed here for one night as we passed thru the city. The location is amazing, right on St. John's River and adjacent to Main Street, so you've got a great view of the Main Street Bridge if you stay riverside.

The premises had been renovated, but still was obviously dated. Despite their best efforts at updating (modern lighting, new flooring and wallpaper, nice new furniture), you can tell the hotel is from last century. Uneven floors, outdated exterior, fading paint, etc.

The riverfront pool was a nice touch, but hadn't been pressure washed for the season (even though it was Spring Break season- high 70s to 80s), so it was surrounded by a layer of mud, which was disappointing. There were no lounge chairs nor a towel service. It wasn't viable for our stay at all.

They must have often heard about the issues with the need for renovating, because they were doing construction in the hotel during our stay. In fact, it was right above our room. At 8 in the morning. They were hammering directly above us and using a pressure washer at 8am. Naturally, hearing this was enraging, and when we called the front desk, they merely told us it would be over soon.

Despite all this, the hotel was VERY clean. The sheets were really nice, and smelled amazing. The restrooms were spotless. The furniture was dust-free. The carpet was good enough. The common areas were just as pleasantly clean.

The one fully updated feature they had were the restrooms in the unit, which was a great feature. The sink was beautiful, there were just enough shelves for all traveling toiletries, the glass shower doors were a nice feature, lighting was ideal, and they had great complimentary soaps/shampoo/etc.

The hotel has two restaurants: a Ruth's Chris and "The American Grill." I visited The American Grill for dessert, which was spectacular, and then the breakfast buffet, which was even better.

The best part about the restaurant was the staff. Our waitress, Michaela, was very nice and accommodating. She went out of her way to make sure we had absolutely everything we needed and more.

The rest of the staff, including valet, bellhops, front desk personnel, and housekeeping were all helpful and kind. We knew nothing about the area, and everyone on staff was willing to help us navigate Jacksonville.

One final comment, which is necessary in this day-and-age, is that the WiFi was atrocious. You can connect to the network easily enough, but once you do, nothing loads because it is so slow. It was like time traveling back to the dial-up days.

Overall, this was a nice place to stay for one or two nights, especially considering the staff and cleanliness.

I've only stayed in a few hotels in Jax, but bang for the buck this has been my favorite. You can book a room here for maybe 100 bucks online (a little less on hotwire), and you'd have a hard time finding a better view of downtown. Half of the rooms have an awesome view of the St. Johns river, while the other half overlook San Marco. I'd recommend requesting a river view if you plan on spending any time in the room.

The rooms seem modern. Certainly much more so than other hotels in the area, and I was very impressed with the decor, the comfort of the beds, and the bathrooms at this price point. Parking is a breeze. They have a deck underneath the hotel that has an elevator that will take you right up to your room.

Checking in was easy. The girl at the front desk was accommodating in putting us in a room near the top of the building to get away from road noise. The hotel is on the South bank of the riverwalk, but the segment in front of the hotel was under construction as of 11/14 so we weren't able to take a stroll.

Another bonus point is the fact that Ruth's Chris is located on the ground floor of the hotel. You can enjoy a nice dinner with drinks and ride the elevator home for the evening. Score!

The following review is in present tense, but was actually written between 2 and 3am last night.

The PROS: The staff is friendly. The view on the "good side" of the hotel is fantastic. The complimentary shampoo smells amazing.

When I stay at a hotel I want my suite to be as clean as--if not cleaner--than my home. And I expect certain levels of quality. So when I walked in earlier today and saw the carpeting spotted with paint and coming up from the floor, it was the first sign that this was going to be a subpar experience.

Housekeeping was not notified that I had checked into my room and since I didn't immediately think to put up the Do Not Disturb sign I was walked in on within the first ten minutes of my stay so that extra toilet paper could be placed under the bathroom sink. I wish they'd brought a working hairdryer too, since mine didn't work--even after I hit the test and reset the buttons on both the outlet and hairdryer several times.

My dad and I are traveling together. He's travels a great deal and is a VIP of sorts, so he has a large suite with the swanky riverfront and fountain view. I am on the opposite side of the hallway and have a spectacular view of a parking lot and a highway ramp as well as the sounds of frequent passing trains, construction during the day, and drunken idiots on the street. A sliding glass door leads to a decent sized balcony--with not a table or chair.

Just a few minutes ago the entire cast of Sons of Anarchy was outside revving their crotch rockets and screaming out into the night. The paper-thin walls separating me from my neighbor have me incapable of tuning out the sound of the television. Another train is rolling by as I type this and the whistle (or whatever you call the sound a train makes) is so loud I fear I may never sleep.

They have sacrificed counter space in the bathroom for a more "modern" sink, which is a real pain in the ass if you're somebody who brings more than three toiletries. There is also only one tiny place to put your soap in the shower. Speaking of soap--they placed an already opened bar of soap on the soap dish in the shower, which I have never seen done in my three decades of existence. A fresh bar of soap from a box would seem to be a more hygienic option.

The bathmat in my room had an unmistakable hole in it, so the quality control inspection process is lacking to say the least. Maybe there is a rule for how large a hole has to be before they send one to Towel Heaven.

The glass doors of the shower were covered in what I am going to assume are water spots but a less kind reviewer could probably make a decent argument for mildew.

My dad's bathroom was especially spacious--yet there was still no storage space to set anything. There is an entire side of the bathroom completely bare. It's enough space to seat three people at a card table for a game of pinochle but not a single counter top. Why make the bathroom that large if you're not going to put something useful there?

VIP Dad received the luxurious amenities of cotton balls and q-tips, which I am grateful that he so generously donated to his pauper daughter. His one complaint aside from the lack of storage space in the bathroom--there are no movies available for purchase here. He likes to watch out-of-theatre, pre-DVD releases (which could be a euphemism for porn, but that's gross none of my damn business) whenever he's away from home and was surprised that was not offered here.

If you think I have been unnecessarily snooty and unkind in this review, go ahead and discount everything I stated prior to the next paragraph.

The worst part of this entire experience was indisputably the Internet service. Utter garbage. There is a network for every floor but they seem to only exist for show. Decorative effing WiFi! Once I was in my room (or my dad's room) it was a complete dead zone. My Macbook had full bars yet not a damn site would load completely. Not even the most simplistic of sites (so even if you're looking for a Craigslist casual encounter--you're gonna have a bad time). As someone who runs a website and relies heavily on hotel Wi-Fi anytime I travel, this was what ultimately earned this establishment a one star review. I had to HotSpot from my phone for my entire stay, which was--thankfully--only one day and night. I have never had to do this at a Courtyard Marriott or a Holiday Inn Express.

My dad informed me that this hotel is to be turned into a Hilton within the coming year. One can only hope that they will dump the crappy outdated furniture in the rooms and downstairs in the restaurant. They should gut and update all the bathrooms and tear every inch of carpeting from the floors, take them outside, douse them in gasoline, light a match, make some s'mores and watch it burn.

Crowne Plaza? More like Frown Plaza.

Excellent front desk staff is the only reason I'm giving them one star other wise it would be none. Checked reviews seemed under rated so we gave it a chance. Got a nice deal (military discount) and had a standard king river view room on the 10th floor.

After having a nice dinner downstairs at Ruth's Chris time for bed. The mattress was one of those memory foam bricks. The sheets were like paper and no real blankets just layers of linens. The bathroom was nicely re-done except for the shower glass door that's on a rolling track that comes off easily.  There is no real AC in the room, the thermostat is stuck at 70. Needed to open the balcony door for cool air. The balcony had a nice view but not even one chair. I almost couldn't get the balcony door to open it was so old and stiff. Also the pool was completely closed.

Finally fall asleep only to be woken up all night by the traffic sounds and the train whistle! Plus the fountain can be heard way up in the rooms. Then early AM the maids started slamming doors. Not like just once and you are startled but can go back to sleep..... REPEATEDLY the hair raising sound of a door slamming on the arm bar left in the locked position. Guessing the maids are too lazy to open and close a door normally. This sound shook the room right outside our door. I often thought someone was trying to come into ours. I woke up panicked and pissed off. My nice relaxing evening was the complete opposite and gave me blood shot eyes as I went to interview for a new job the next morning.

Lastly I hung the breakfast selections on the door and hand wrote to please include catsup and hot sauce if possible. Breakfast came on time but had neither of these items. The "hot" water for my tea was luke warm and wouldn't steep the tea. I could have got way hotter water outta the bathroom faucet! So very disappointed in this out dated massive hotel. Sorry Crown Plaza but your golden days are long gone.

My room here was fine though I wish there was a tub and not just a shower. The fitness center was just a few treadmills and ellipticals though at least there were free weights too. The breakfast served downstairs was pretty good and my waitress was like the nicest waitress on the planet. And parking is free there too which is cool! Nice riverfront location and you can walk across the bridge pretty easily. So why the low rating?

The Wi-Fi was AWFUL!! Seriously?! For the price and for wanting to cater to business travellers I haven't had internet that bad EVER at a hotel. I had to turn it on, open my email server, and go to sleep, hoping that my messages had downloaded by the morning. How difficult is it to set up a better wireless network?! I will never travel there again for a business trip because the wi-fi made it impossible to get any work done.

For a supposed nice hotel they need to handle rowdy guests better. There were numerous groups that were partying at 3 am. Gave us a room next to one of them. Called front desk twice to get security to get them to stop. Elevators were going up and down with a dolly being thrown out of one of them. The room doors were being slammed as people went in and out. Drunk people walking up and down the floors loudly at 3am. They repeatedly knocked on our doors. Worst night ever. You need to better manage your guests.
The location is great with nice water front. However I got the street room and the sliding glass was not soundproof. I could hear cars and train horns at night even with it closed. The bed was ok, regular sheets no down comforter. The room was clean.
I won't be returning to this location and even if I must definitely not getting street side.

I enjoyed my stay at this Crowne Plaza and would definitely consider staying here again the next time I am in Jacksonville. I do agree with some of the other reviews that the rooms could be a little more modern; however, you can tell prior to booking that this probably isn't the standard CP. For one night I paid $110. I've spent more than $110 at some Holiday Inn's! This place is a great bargain, especially since many CP's start at $180/night. The bargain kind of gave away to me that the hotel was probably a little older.

Now, onto the room. I found the beds to be pretty comfortable, although I wish the pillows were bigger and the sheets a little fluffier. The room itself was VERY clean and the bathrooms had recently been updated. I really liked the sliding doors as opposed to the traditional shower curtain for the shower. It makes the whole bathroom feel cleaner in my opinion. I also liked having a balcony. Although we didn't have a room with a great view, the balcony was still a nice feature.  The parking situation is a little confusing at first, but once you realize how to get into the garage, its fine. The parking fee is $10/day.

Overall, I give my experience at this Crowne Plaza four stars because every aspect of this establishment; from our room, to the hallways, to the lobby, was CLEAN. The location is perfect too if you're planning on doing anything in the downtown area.
