I'm not sure why, but this place fills up.  Totally.  During the week, they say it's the business people, and on the weekends, it's the conventions.  All I'm saying is, book it a few weeks in advance, or end up staying by yourself in a smoking room across town while your four colleagues relax in their non-smoking rooms right by where you need to be anyway.
Free wi-fi!  Great for those people with their own laptops and a wireless card, but otherwise, there is only one lonely desktop for everyone's use in the lobby.  Make sure you sign out, because for some reason it keeps you in the system whether or not you checked the "yes this is my computer" box.  Tsk tsk, lady-whose-ebay-account-I-was-in!
The facilities are ok, nothing amazing or new but decent.  The breakfast is the basic coffee, cereal, biscuits, with a rotating hot tray of sausage, egg pucks (these can NOT be real eggs), egg hash mix (don't do it) and it seems on Thursdays, sausage gravy (not great but not bad).  There is no exercise room, but there is a pool, and all in all, it's pretty quiet.  The staff is very friendly, and here are a few more perks: a popcorn machine in the lobby; fresh baked chocolate chip cookies in the lobby in the evenings; fresh lemon water and cucumber water in the lobby in the late afternoons.
Watch out for old televisions!  Some of the sets have that I'm-about-to-give-up-the-ghost whine of old electronics that is sure to give you a monster headache.  My last visit didn't have that problem, but the plumbing screamed so loudly, I was afraid the faucet was going to explode and take out one of my legs.  Try and explain that to your co-workers when they have to come find you.

This was a great hotel! I made my first visit to Jacksonville and made my original reservations in downtown Jacksonville by the North Riverwalk. I arrived to find my only parking options were Valet (an additional $20 for overnight) or the Parking Garage (additional $10-$15 for overnight). I was unaware the hotel charged this so we cancelled our reservations. After driving to 3 other hotels who charged for parking, we drove less than 2 minutes across the bridge to the Hampton Inn. We were greeted by an exceptionally nice concierge and got a room. He did inform us of the thefts that had been going on around downtown and to ensure all valuables were brought in or removed from view. The hotel also offered a complimentary breakfast, cookies and popcorn. The next morning we received our check out receipt under the door so we didn't have to go to the desk. We did go for breakfast and were greeted by two more exceptionally friendly employees. This hotel was great, especially for the price. I'm currently in the military and with the discount the rate was $80 (and the free parking) which definitely was a steal since less than 2 miles away the rates were at least $100 a night plus the additional $10 per night for parking.

We drove into the parking lot only minutes after the start of a torrential rain shower.  So it was a welcome sight.

I generally love Hamptons...clean facilities, free breakfast, & reasonable prices.  This location was perfect for the weekend activities we had planned...visit the Cummer Museum, the Riverside Arts/Farmers Market, the Landing, San Marco Square, & Cuba Libre dance club.

The staff was friendly, helpful, & attentive.  The room was modern, clean, & comfortable.  We had a newer flat screen TV...40" I think.  There was a small pool.  For breakfast we generally had oatmeal, raisin bran, fresh fruit, coffee with milk, waffles, yogurt, with an occasional pastry.  They also had eggs, sausages, bacon, pastries, & pancakes which we did not try.

We had a great time in JAX while staying here, & heartily recommend this Hampton.

Another great stay at a Hampton Inn. It was clean and not worn out, the breakfast was great, and service was friendly.

Free parking is nice. Not a lot of restaurant options in walking distance, but there is the lovely Treaty Oak park next door. The waterfront is about a 10 to 15 minute walk.

If I'm in Jacksonville again I'll definitely stay here.

Very nice mid-level hotel that caters to business people.  Great breakfast buffet in the morning.  Awesome customer service.  Good location near hospital.  Very clean.

I had a hard time giving this a 4.  I really was thinking 3.5 stars.  The hotel seems to have been recently renovated with new carpets, sheets, and 40" LCD TV's..Not to bad.  The service was also very good.  But I just don't love the location.  While it's close to downtown, it's not close enough to walk, and the skyway is not open on the weekends..real bummer.  The wi-fi speed was decent, ad the pool was just OK and outdoors.  Not a bad location for the price.

Omg  maybe I was a little to geeked to be in Jacksonville for the first time but this was really the best hotel ever. We were there for three days and even though i didn't the maid to come clean our room she always checked to see if we were ok or needed any new towels. The wifi is fast and I was geeked because I was watching Netflix movies allll Night Long. the breakfast is served from 6am until 10am. Waffles are soo good i wanted to take they waffle maker which makes perfect waffles everytime!! The staff was nice and the price was nice. it was about 366 for 3nights and four days!!!! Right in the center of it all and not far from public transportation.

Usually like to stay at Hampton and this one did not disappointed. Its very well located in downtown Jacksonville.

The room was real clean and the room was cheap for a Saturday. The staff was all real nice and helpful. Free Wifi is in the hotel and thats a great perk since some hotels still try to charge or it.

Definitely stay here if you're in the Jacksonville area, I will again for sure.

Just stayed here this weekend (July, 2012) and couldn't have been happier.  Great price, clean rooms, the decor is updated and the place just looks/feels new.

THe room was very clean, comfy bed, big flat screen tv and WiFi worked great.  Fridge in room was a nice plus.

Late afternoon snack (cookies) were nice touch and typical Continental plus warm foods breakfast provides more than enough choice.

I stopped two doors down at the Wyndham and my in-laws and it was a DUMP - made the Hampton shine that much more.

    Great job!

Clean rooms , no foam pillows.
Hot Breakfast sucks... Cold turkey links and egg chunks.

Not up to the standard Hilton family experience.

If not for building up my points bank, I would not come back.

To be honest, I have had a most difficult time finding a suitable hotel for me in JAX.  I have stayed at the Omni, it's nice, however they nickel and dime you, and it's a hassle to get in and out because of its size.  Fairfield is clean and nice, but I needed someplace more centrally located

So, I try Hampton because the Wyndham Riverwalk seems like a disaster from the reviews.

I made the right choice.  This hotel has easy access--fairly easy to get in and out of, if there is no traffic blocking the entrance.  So, JAX people, it's nice to leave an opening at a business entrance in traffic instead of blocking me.  Just be nice.

Everyone is super friendly here and helpful.  Someone went out of their way to find deodorant for me as I left mine at home, and someone else got me hot water to make hot chocolate.  They serve cookies and popcorn for snacks in the evening, and I got to choose my snack based on status with Hilton.  Very nice.

Rooms are clean and comfortable, breakfast is nice, and they allow me to check out late.

Ok, I'm somewhat puzzled.  This Hampton Inn seems to get some great, if not almost RAVE reviews.  Is it possible that there is another Hampton Inn nearby?  Or maybe I've finally succumbed to a nasty bout of Hilton Itis?

I'm really comparing this to other Hampton Inns, and it still comes up 2 stars in my book.  The rooms have that odd smell of humidity and sweat.  The heating/cooling system featured a fan that turned at the blistering speed of one revolution per minute.  The place was remarkable in its utter unremarkable.  Maybe the location is convenient for downtown visitors, but to me it is worth throwing in the convenience for other offerings near some nightlife and restaurants.  The most convenient option here is the BP across the street (they sell a killer pre packages Italian sub....expiration date is a year from next tuesday).

When I return to Jacksonville, I think I'll pass on this property and check out the Hilton Garden Inn just a stop up the road further.

This place was nicely located right next to I95. Although they tried to get me far from the highway, the fact is -- I was still next to the highway and heard the traffic through out the night. Service was friendly.

The hotel looks like it went through recent renovations. The lobby looks up to date and great. The carpets in the hallway are nice and clean. The rooms and bathroom were all decent. They have these new mass printed notes that say your sheets are clean for your arrival. I don't know how that changes my outlook but I still am aware what goes on at a hotel.

Breakfast is available as with all Hampton Inns. Each floor had a great ice machine great for refilling for travelers. The direct TV was a little unreliable but of course a bad storm hit while I stayed there.

I am surprised that so many people like this hotel. The hotel could use a major update. I checked in on a Saturday and stayed two nights. The first day someone was having a baby shower in a private room on the first floor. I was hanging out in the lobby waiting for a family member. They were so LOUD and obnoxious.

The room I stayed in was clean, but the carpet was worn in spots. The bed was comfy. I went to bed early the first night. I could hear someone outside my door with a dog barking. Also heard people talking loud and slamming their doors. The second night I could again hear doors slamming. That morning people could be heard early talking loud and again slamming the door.

Next time I think I will go to the Hilton. This property is not for me.

Very Very pleased with this hotel ! Samantha and Yolanda at the front desk were so polite and accommodating! They provided a free wine opener and gave us tips and hints on where to go and what to do. Was there the weekend of Dec 13-Dec 16th. The breakfast was delish -- love the make your own waffles! So fun! Whatever you do, DO NOT GO TO THE WINE CELLAR restaurant across the street. We got 2 cocktails and a bill for 41.00!  I asked how 2 cocktails (jack and coke and gin and tonic could be $41, and I was told "this is a 5 star restaurant sir". Steer clear!).

Hotel was very clean and smelled fresh. The bathroom and toiletries were Nuetragena. The bed was so soft and comfy. The pool was cute and the grounds (entrance, plants, etc) were very clean and well kept. The BP gas station across the street was a little shady, but the prices were fair.

The river walk and river taxi 2 blocks behind hotel were great! so easy to access! Also - we ate at the SAKE HOUSE 2 blocks behind Hampton and it was absolutely delish! HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!!!

Best hotel for the buck. You will be pleased!

Really enjoyed our stay for our son's hockey tourney. Very nice place.. great location. Service was very acceptable. We were upgraded because of number of kids, they did not charge us! very classy. Close to everything. If your staying in Jacksonville, FL, I would stay here again. Shopping close, good food, everything close by. Enjoyed it. Price is very reasonable for location.

My husband and I got married across the street at Treaty Oak Park and rented out a room to get changed in after we were done decorating (and yes, we spent the night...after a drunken post-reception party with some close friends). Everyone who worked there was SUPER friendly and completely helpful in every aspect (Sigourney, Key, Winston - sorry I really tried to remember the names I hope I'm at least close!) Even after all my worried phone calls during the previous two weeks before we stayed there, they were all professional and courteous.

The hotel is very nice, clean, and spacey. Had nice TVs and a fridge in the room. Also had an iron with ironing board, hair dryers, coffee pot, etc. If you forgot a toothbrush, toothpaste, or really any of the basic necessities, you could just call the front desk and get it. Coffee was almost always available in the lobby and breakfast is served everyday between 6am-11am. Great location and by some cool spots in San Marco :)
