Are you kidding me?!? I've stayed in Motel 6s that were nicer than this. We booked the tickets online after seeing all the beautiful pictures (which were all generic I'm sure) and after arriving, I felt violated spending $140/night. And they didn't let us cancel the reservation...

This hotel/motel is very clean. Looks like they renovated the rooms. Pool area very nice small jacuzzi. Tiki bar at pool nice and bartender was very friendly. Breakfast was included but very scarce, only breads and coffee.. View from pool area very nice, a little far from Duval st. About 2 miles.

Beds where hard as a rock, breakfast was not what I expected, the view of the bay was nice, and it was not to far from the action. So 2 stars for view, and nice staff, but beds need to be updated.

The place was ok. Paid $99 a night for a two full size room in mid dec. I was a bit paranoid about the other reviews about bed bugs but I had no problem at all. The place could use a good update but its decent. It is recommended if your are trying to save a little money in key west. It's about 2 miles from duval so it's not in walking distance but not too far either. Boat docking is a nice option.

We tried to get out of our reservation here. I'm not a posh chick by any means. I don't expect fancy this and that but I do expect for $150 a night a clean room with a comfortable bed. I think the room was clean but the bed was the equivalent of sleeping on the floor. I woke up with sore shoulders from tossing and turning all night. I decided to ask the front desk for more pillows since the king sized bed only had 4 small pillows on it. The front desk couldn't locate any pillows in the entire resort to give us. After two nights of sleeping on concrete..I couldn't wait to get home to a blizzard to sleep in my bed. Go somewhere else!

    Wow...where to begin.

First off, there is some *serious* Photoshop trickery happening on this hotel's page on all the travel web sites.  It doesn't look like that.

We got to our room (#209 by the way, in case you happen to be the next lucky resident), and it had that "hotel smell."  In the one light fixture in the room, two of the four light bulbs were out.  Lots of chipped, cracked paint in the main room, and the bathroom was in DESPERATE need of re-wallpapering.  Everything at this place was dingy, run down and dirty...and not "Key West run-down-and-dirty," just regular-kind.  It was gross.  On top of all that, the blinds were a wreck, our coffee pot was missing the carafe, the temperature in the shower wouldn't hold steady...this room was a disaster.

Skip forward to the following morning, we leave our room to go to their continental breakfast, which was just sad.  A couple of bagels, some bread, and breakfast cereals in a dingy room that no one even attempted to make look nice.

Furthermore, the location of this place makes it a pain to get to the downtown area.  Yeah, it's only 2 miles, but if you're walking it means you're walking over US-1, over a hill, etc etc., which is a pain when you're already going to be walking the rest of the day.  You'll either need to hire a cab ($10 to get you to downtown), or rent bikes or something.

For the price I paid, I feel seriously taken advantage of.  Had I realized it was so far away from downtown, I would have taken the money I ended up spending on cabs and spent it on a better place closer to town.  The people leaving positive reviews on this place either work there, or have really, really low standards.

    Stay away!!!

If you are in the Keys, you shouldn't be in the room for majority of your stay to begin with, but would have to agree with most posts on here with my recent stay... Decent location and staff, but they really need to update the rooms at least the carpet and the walls.. a fresh paint job and new carpet would rid of that musty smell.... I'd come back if this were to be updated.  Wifi in the rooms would be nice too..

We just got back from the Banana Bay Resort. The only reason I gave it two stars because the staff was nice, outside the hotel was nice, the bed was comfy and there were no bugs crawling on me at night (which I fully expected there to be after I entered the hotel room the first day).

Thankfully, Key West was so amazing we barely spent any time in the hotel.

The reason this hotel pisses me off so much is because it has such potential. I have this suspicion that the owners pocket all the money and don't spend any of it on the upkeep of the hotel unless they absolutely have to.

Things I saw at the hotel that prompted me to give this two stars: cracks everywhere in walls and floorboards, window curtain would barely move across its tracks, nasty tub - no mold but the bottom of the tub had worn down so bad it was pink, musty smell in the room, no door on the closet, no carafe in the room's coffeemaker, wallpaper peeling off walls, carpet probably hadn't been replaced in decades.

This was not just in the rooms. Although a better maintained than the rooms, if you look close in the lobby, you'll see the cracks all over the walls there too.

Was going to give it one star but was so relieved I didn't experience bugs crawling on me at night that I felt generous and added some points.

Don't stay here - stay in one of the little bed and breakfasts on one of the side streets (off Duval) in downtown.

At the entrance to Key West sets this very tranquil but comfortable resort. It has the most secluded private beach with hammocks, chairs, wedding gazebo, trees, and seclusion. The Tiki bar serves up tropical cocktails. At night the pool comes alive with soft LED lights of various colors. The accommodations are a combination of private villas along an inlet and a couple stories of rooms.  There is a dolphin sightseeing tour that leaves from the property. It is also one of a handful of adults only resorts in the Keys. Meaning the pool is all topless. It is pet friendly.

We stayed in room 209 with a small view of the pool and waterfront. The pool/jacuzzi area is nice and clothing-optional.  The waterfront is good for relaxing briefly but there is no sand or water activity here; it is NOT a beach.  Breakfast is included but limited to bagels, muffins, cereal, and a waffle machine; they were out of coffee both mornings we went.  The room included a cute canopy bed, TV, fridge, microwave, and small balcony.  The bathroom was small with a stained counter and fidgety sink faucet.  There was free wifi in the lobby but no wifi at all in our room.  The walk to Duval is a bit long so we ended up renting a scooter (which I highly recommend!!).  There are no obvious good food or grocery options within short walking distance (the closest was a Checkers across the highway).  Overall, we enjoyed our stay and the pool/waterfront area, but next time we will probably spend a little more to be closer to Duval.

I stayed at this place a few times last year and loved it. The rooms were huge! the decor inside the rooms slighly outdated. They could use a modern duvet on the beds and make all the difference, but if you want that... stay someplace else and put your greedy hands in your pockets.

Cause this place is lovely! Never made it to breakfast so I can't review on that. But the outside area is lovely being right on the water. Pool area is rather decent for Key West stardards.

The rooms are HUGE, got a beach and pool area. Great value for money!

And don't let anyone tell you it's far from the action cause its less than a 10 minute walk to Duval Street. Unless you have the leg strength of a turtle, you get to Duval in less than 10 minutes!

My wife and I didn't know what to expect at first. We read positive and negative reviews from various hotel websites and forums. Banana Bay Resort was my first pick due to the price and distance from all attractions.

The resort was located on the main road and easy to get to. My wife and I were very surprised once we were inside the resort. The room was super clean and the view from our balcony was amazing. Surrounded by palm trees and great views to the pool and private mini beach. The whirlpool and the tiki bar was a surprise we didn't know about till we wondered around.

Our two night stay was great with no problems at all. I will recommend and will look forward to this place next time around.

Worst experience with a hotel ever!  Bed bugs not only at the hotel, but also came home with me.  What a nightmare!!  If you look at The Bed Bug Registry site you'll see that I was not the only one that experienced bed bugs at this hotel. Wish I would have looked at that before making reservations.

Also the pictures on their web site are far better than the hotel itself.

    Stay far away!!

Came here for a weekend getaway with my boyfriend.  Location of resort not bad and less than a mile from everything (although the whole island of key west is not huge or anything).  Concept of "resort" is just not executed the right way.   "Beach" had rotting old chairs, tiki bar was out of service (big letdown), pool chairs old and gross- grounds upkeep not the best: grounds weren't upkept very well.  Hotel accomodations are outdated: there's that musty smell in the rooms, moldy bathrooms, wallpaper peeling from the walls, furnishings circa 1990s and beds are creaky like woah! Most likely would not stay here again...

Tropical environment and furniture is pretty nice. Our room has a sun deck where we can see the pool and the Caribbean sea. The room is large and there are refrigerator and microwave. I am gonna to enjoy breakfast now. I might choose here next time. Happy new year.

This is not somewhere that you want to spend more than $50 a night! I travel constantly because of my work, and I stay at 4-8 hotels a month...this one makes my "NEVER AGAIN" list in spades.
The room smells old and musty, the paint is cracking and peeling everywhere, the beds may have to be registered as "Antique" along with the decor, the TV is straight out of the early 90's with no RCA jacks, the A/C is pathetic (and I'm here in December!!), the mini-fridge smelled like straight-up death, the ceiling fan (on "hi") barely moved any air and the bathroom looks like an afterthought.
All in all, if you want to relive your broke dorm room days while spending entirely too much to do so, come here. If your looking for value for your money...STAY FAR AWAY!

First thing he said was sorry this is the last room and it's a bit dated. Room had lizards and poo on walls and floor, went to tell guy he handed me 2 more room keys and said check these out, both were gross for 250 a night 125 max worth. Left and disputed charges and won, they have a nude pool tho

The only reason I stayed here in the first place was because pets could stay with no additional fees. Once getting the room it was decsent considering the reviews already on this "resort" and considering I wouldn't be spending much time in the room anyways. Well no. There were bugs crawling all over the bathroom area and kitchenette area. What were they. I'm not sure... apparently neither was the housekeeping staff. They simply said they aren't sure what they are and wiped them all up. When I notified the front desk they said all issues would have to be taken care of through booking.com so that's what I did. After checking out of the hotel with bug bites all over from who knows what and feeling like there is bugs in all of my belongings banana bay refused to give any sort of compensation. Not  only that but couldn't even get a phone call from the "resort" apologizing for their service.

Let me preface this by saying, Key West is not known for its high quality hotels. And I've been there many times and stayed at a large variety of hotels for work. That being said.

This hotel was once new. It was likely before my birth which explains its poor maintenance conditions. The adult only restriction was its only saving grace. The pool was in rough shape. The hot tub was in really rough shape. Both were clean, but it's well past the time for resurfacing. The amount of moths that somehow got into my room at night was enough to actually use the screen on the bed. Never thought I'd have to do that in my hotel room.

ADA access was non existent. They had stalls and a ramp to the main lobby and main part of the hotel and that's it. If you wanted their poor quality breakfast, you would need to crawl down the stairs or find someone to pick through the minimal breakfast offering.

If you are in a pinch and don't mind third world conditions, this is the place for you.

Perhaps a bit overpriced, but we enjoyed a quality stay at Banana Bay.

The room itself its your average hotel room - we had a double - with a southern tropical flair. Nice, sizely balconies with a decent view, even from the first floor (which is actually a bit raised off of street level). I would suspect that very few of the rooms actually have a beach view, although the views of the pool and even the parking lot (with its lush, tropical foliage) is quite nice. Very clean rooms, though they could use a little touch-up/remodeling soon... Not that anything was bad, just some parts of the room are showing their age (scuffed walls, etc). Would prefer if Internet access were included in each room, especially for the overall price to stay here.

The pool was quite nice, though I was very disappointed the tiki bar was not in service and that the property had no beach hammocks, as pictured on some of the websites. Also, we had to go all the way to the front office to get pool towels, which was inconvenient. Spacious surrounding pool areas, new looking lounge chairs.

The grounds closer to the water looked well maintained and were quite pleasant to lounge in. I spent several hours down by the water with the whole area to myself.

Breakfast was your typical continental; outdoor seating area is nice. Saw an iguana while eating.

We did not walk to Duval or surrounding areas as the road outside the Resort is under construction. It was a short drive, less than 10 minutes, and we had no trouble finding free parking.

Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at Banana Bay and found it very relaxing.
