The internet was constantly broken, and the staff's constant response was basically, "So why is that my problem?"

It is crippling to have unreliable internet access when you are trying to communicate and work on the road.  File uploads get interrupted, MS Outlook IMAP gets messed up.  Messages duplicated or not downloaded from the server.

It's almost enough to stress you out while you're in Key West.  And that's saying a lot.

I guess this is a punishment rating, but they said it was always spotty like that.  Bottom line, if you need internet (and believe me, even vacationers need to look up yelp, and snorkeling packages, etc) - then no way!

If you're swearing to stay away from the 'net, then maybe you can evaluate it on other terms.

I lucked out with a suite, and it was fine other than the internet.

So I read some nasty reviews on this place but I have to say I couldn't more satisfied to be honest.  Location was great if you don't mind driving downtown which is only 7mins away.  Pool/Jacuzzi very nice..especially with the ocean front view.  Free Continental Breakfast a plus!  Very helpful staff, told us all the cool things to do and sites to check out. Tips on parking/renting bikes etc.  I'd def stay here again.  Room was clean too! Bath & Body works soaps, I was very surprised and impressed.. if you want to do key west on the cheap..this is the place to be!

It's clean but the walls are thin. You can hear everything. The cable is poor. Yes, staff doesn't seem that friendly. Internet is slow but ok. Parking is reasonable and there are places to shop nearby. Would I stay here again? mmm...It's cheap and clean so yes.

This was an inexpensive room. We did not stay in the suites. The room had a musty smell. The housekeeping didn't even bother to give us washclothes. At one point they decided to take my personal towel I had brought from home even though I set it aside with my belongings. The front desk was kind of rude about it when I called to ask for it back. It did not have bugs, but I wouldn't say it was the cleanest hotel either.

I had a mixup with my reservation.  At first, the front desk staff was not able to help.  However, once I spoke with the manager (I believe Donna?), she was able to resolve the problem - far exceeding my expectations.  4 stars because of the help given to resolve my problem with a mix up with reservations.

While I won't say this is the best hotel on the island, I will say this place went far beyond my own expectations. It has been converted from an older hotel (Bayside Resort I think) so this isn't typical Travel Lodge fair.

I stayed in the one person, queen room and thought it was pretty good for what I paid for. It had plenty of towels, no bugs, and a cool AC unit.

The pool on site is okay, goes all the way to 6 ft. It does have a hot tub that is good for about 6 people max and that's about all I can say as far as amenities go. I never did get in on their free breakfast.

The previous reviews, at least in my opinion, just seem to complain about crappy wifi. The wifi isn't the best but there are literally dozens of places that offer free Internet nearby. While I don't agree with paying for a hotel and not getting all of the services offered, I do realize this is a Travel Lodge...not a Ritz. I was just happy I got a clean and quiet room! I don't really agree with the paper thin walls but that's just my .02 cents, maybe other rooms aren't built as well as others.

The one negative thing that I will say is that my shower had no hot water by itself. The sink did have hot water so if I turned on the cold water at the sink, the shower would eventually get hot. Not a great solution but better than nothing.

If you're trying to visit Key West on a budget then this place is great! It's 4 walls and a roof. Also keep in mind you're fairly far away from Duval Street but you are also close to the grocery stores nearby, so its a blessing and a curse.

I'll start off by saying that if you need reliable internet access, don't come here. Their speeds are slower than 3g...when you can actually use it. The connection to their proxy slows to a halt often, and file upload/downloads will end up getting canceled. Oh, and the network is unsecured...really. It's an open network in all of it's 801.11b goodness. That's right, 802.11b, the standard from 12 years ago. Christ. In fact, it's so terrible that I'm going to indicate that they don't have wifi on my review.

The price is good, and the location isn't terrible. It's a bit loud outside of our room, as there isn't much insulation around the door (you can see light all around it). So, bring earplugs if you're near the elevators or any common area, as you'll hear everything.

Oh yeah, and remember that gap that I said around the door? Well, that lets in biting insects. So, when you wake up with bug bites all over you, don't say that I didn't warn you. The place seems to be a haven for loud teenage parties too, as evidenced by the groups that got kicked out while we were there.

My best friend was getting married in Key West and a bunch of friends and family rented out several rooms and suites at the Travelodge to cram everyone in together to save some green. I will say this up front: the Travelodge is far from the fanciest hotel in town, and leaves a lot to be desired. However if you can look past the simple ascetics of the place and the electrical tape used to hold the metal staircase in your room together, then the price is worth it. Plus how much time will you actually be spending in your hotel room...you're in Key West, so head outdoors!

We shared a two bedroom suite with the groom (until the wedding night) and his mother. The suite had a kitchen and living area with plenty of seating to accommodate a large number of guests. There was a huge outdoor balcony outside the bottom bedroom and living room that overlooked the ocean...and the massive construction being down on the main road right below!

We took the single bedroom upstairs, which was the size of two bedrooms with all the walls knocked down, making it a massive loft. The balcony in this room overlooked the city, and I preferred the view of the buildings and trees to the ocean and men at work anyways. Some things were undesirable, from the aforementioned metal staircase of death to the loose toilet bowl downstairs to the broken elevator that. In fact, we were all a bit ticked off when one of the elderly uncles arrived to find the broken elevator and had to argue a bit before the hotel sent someone out to help him carry his bulging suitcase up the stairs (why he didn't call anyone in the family for assistance is a mystery to this day.)

There is a free breakfast in the morning, but it's pretty lame, with some bagels, muffins, pre-packaged pastries, and cereal. At leas there was some batter to make fresh waffles, but what's a waffle bar when the only condiment is syrup? Where's the fresh fruit and whipped cream??? The pool also leaves a bit to be desired, and we took a quick dip one afternoon to find it in dire need of TLC, with some dirt floating about on top and even a fairly large tree branch at the bottom.

Still, when it comes to going away, I let things slide if the price is right. Key West is an incredibly expensive place for tourists to visit. !f you can save some cash by staying at a cheesy hotel so that you can spend more of your vacation fund on fun stuff and food, I say go for it! Just watch your step on that metal staircase!

Judging from previous reviews of this place I gather that it used to be a TraveLodge. I don't know if the quality was worse then, but I found it satisfactory compared to what some other reviewers are saying. We had a split level two-story suite with massive bedrooms, huge kitchen, and a nice view. Sure it's a little rough around the edges but for the price it was fine. The railing on the spiral staircase is held together with tape and the fixtures such as the cabinets in the kitchen and the carpet are old. But did I  mention that the rooms are absolutely massive? Also, The Wi-Fi works fine, the air-conditioning was cold, and there were plenty of cable TV channels. The buffet breakfast was about average for a hotel of this price range, and I found the customer service to be friendly. The pool area was great, although the water was a little warm. This is a perfect place if you have a large group of people sharing. The two bedroom suites hold up to six people, which if you split the cost, comes out to less than $50 per person. The location is not central, but it is close to grocery stores and shops, which is very convenient.

Let me start by saying: we pay almost 300.00 + taxes for a room that looks like a 45.00 shitty motel room. . . 2 stars because of location & "not having a pet fee" ... not recommended unless find it really cheap... but for us next time I will sleep in the car and save the money. *Lesson Learn. Hahahaha...

This place was an oasis!  After more than a week of odd little rooms with tiny bathrooms and miniscule showers it felt luxurious to be in a room with a comfortable bed and an adult sized shower/bath!  Everything was very clean, the staff was courteous and the pool, while not as clean as I would have liked, was still miles better than other things we had experienced in the previous ten days.  I will say that the bathroom cabinets could stand replacement and that elevator, frightening, stifling in the sun and gross.

Tiny dark rooms, but who wants to spend time in the room during a Key West vacation?  Decent pool, helpful staff, relatively inexpensive.  Complimentary breakfast is just slightly better than the minimum.
