Eden House in Key West, FL

Eden House specializes in providing a clean, comfortable room at a great price for Key West visitors. We have been doing so for over 30 years. We are locals, we know this town like the back of our hand, and can provide insider tips for the best places to eat, drink, and have fun.

The Eden House is Key West, Florida's original hotel. Built back in 1924, the hotel has been owned and operated since 1975 by Mike Eden. Now fully renovated, the original art deco hotel building is joined by several renovated conch houses, making for a lovely property with a full range of accommodations - from apartment suites to semi-private rooms, and everything in between.
Amidst a tranquil, peaceful setting with all the amenities and none of the attitude, Eden House sits in historic old town Key West, just a short walk from the Harbor's Wharf and Duval Street. Eden House hotel offers affordable rates, a heated pool, bubbly Jacuzzi, elevated sundeck, waterfalls, hammocks, swings, garden happy-hour, complimentary coffee and tea, wi-fi, and friendly service - all in a lush, tropical setting.

Established in 1975.

I'd like to welcome you to the Eden House. I bought the hotel in 1975 from Jack Gibson, whose grandfather built it in 1924. It was called the Gibson Hotel.

Originally, the Eden House was only the main building. The surrounding buildings were added over the next five or so years.

My idea of running a hotel would be simple: keep the rooms clean, the beds comfortable, the prices reasonable, and have a friendly staff (people who care). How could we go wrong? Respect is essential! I respect my guests and I want this same respect for my hotel, my staff, and my other guests. I know this is not a universal view. That's why we have chain hotels. All they want is your money.

I hope you enjoy your stay with us, and I hope you enjoy Key West as much as I do. I've often been told, "Key West is a bowl of granola. What's not fruits and nuts, is flakes." Thank goodness & take your pick.

-Mike Eden

We got a free upgrade and we were very happy with our room, however the cheaper rooms seem a little cramped. Its a decent location, 15 minute walk to duval street. They also have bikes that you can rent relatively cheap. We love the grounds here, there's a beutiful water fountain, pool open 24/7,  hammocks and a grill. We stayed at the Key lime in for our first 2 nights and we were much happier at the eden house. The staff is great!

This hidden gem defines the eccentric city of Key West! Unique, quaint interiors can be expected along with friendly staff and occupants. The price is right, accommodations are above average, and the service is top-notch. expect a tour at check-in if so desired, free happy hour party and all the local dining, and bar info you desire. Highly recommended!

Nice place to stay with alot of character.  Our room was a bit small, but perfect for a short stay.
The staff was friendly and helpful.  Nice pool and hottub, good parking, and convenient bike rentals.
Great location, perfect for walking or biking around town.

After seeing a lot of other quests houses, I thought this place was the best. Room was clean and A/C worked great. The place just has a great combination of the things you want: pool (with some shade and nice gardens), hot tub, private smoking deck, restaurant that is attached (and delivers the pool). Great place to be for happy hour drinks, which they do daily. The check-in beer gets you off to a good stay in the Keys.

Found this place through google reviews and was shocked to see all the great reviews of this place that I didn't even see on Hotels.com . We did the 'Fun in the Sun' package for 7 nights and really feel it was a great value. The best thing we like about the hotel are just the little free conviniences they have...free filtered water (don't need to buy any), free 24hr tea and coffee bar, free suntan/sun block/ bug spray, ice machine (duh), library and TV near lobby where you can watch your own movies.

The only negatives we experienced was paying a $240 deposit for the bike rental, even if it is included in your package. It was never mentioned to us over the phone when we booked. That and not having a microwave in the lobby to heat up things like leftovers.

All that said, we plan to go back for labor day weekend....I CAN'T WAIT!!!

Just the ticket for a Key West experience that will be unforgettable. Quirky and charming yet comfortable, clean as a pin and close to the action.  A real gem at a reasonable price.  (Reasonable only in the Key West Old Town area.)

A perfect location!  Just far enough away from the craziness of Duvall St.  , but close enough to easily walk in less than 10 minutes.  Closer to the Green Parrot, the best place for music on the island anyhow.

The rooms are a bit small but delightful.  The staff is absolutely fantastic.  I came here for one night but keep on adding nights. Prices are simply too high everywhere on Key West, but considering the accommodations,  perks such as free happy hours,  24 hour hot tub and pool, and location this place is a steal.

Ultra-relaxing environment, friendly and helpful staff, awesome pool and hammocks, FREE Happy Hour! from 4:00 to 5:00... Close enough for easy access, far enough away to avoid the noise of Duval Street... Many room upgrade choices from value to deluxe.

Far enough off Duval that you don't wake up through the night to the sounds of the drunken hoopla but close enough that when you are a part of the hoopla your drunken journey will not be too long.  The hotel was comfortable and cozy, well maintained, and full of friendly staff.  The pool was open 24 hours as was the hot tub.. The lay out fresh beach sized towels for you and provide a free happy hour everyday of mixers and liquors.  We didn't get to take part in the happy hour since we were there mostly to work the beer fest.  They have a great selection of cable tv channels (important when you're relaxing after being out in the sun all day) and a small fridge and microwave.  They didn't mind that we had our own beer when we were in the pool and they even provide a discount if you go to the restaurant next door.  We brought our own bikes so we didn't rent theirs though they offer it and everyone seemed to be pleased.  They also offer plenty of bike rack space out front to lock up your rentals or personal rides.   Great experience, great guest house, and I will definitely be there again.

We love Eden House.  Happy hour by the pool every day!  They offer you a beverage right away at check-in.  Right around the corner from Duval but quiet & cozy.  It's easy to hang out at Eden House ALL DAY.  Our favorite place to stay in The Keys.

Fabulous place.  Have been here twice now, and I hate to write this because I don't want them to raise their rates again.  Both of the rooms weren't particularly big, but the public spaces--wide wraparound porches and swings, hammocks, little garden walkways, and of course the pool--more than make up for it, as does the location in a lovely and very walkable part of Key West.  Very relaxing and friendly vibe; also very clean.  Like a lot of the other reviewers, it's hard to see staying anywhere else in Key West after being here.

We had a great time during our 2-night stay at Eden House.

We were offered a free drink (water, pop or beer) when we checked in. They offer free water and free sunscreen while staying at the hotel. They rent bikes right from the front desk at very reasonable prices. Our room was comfortable, modern and secure. We even had our own porch with a swinging chair.

The bathroom was clean and the shower had great water pressure and steady hot water (not always the case in many hotels!).

The pool area is also nice: they have spread hammocks and chairs throughout the pool area, so you can sit in the sun or in the shade and enjoy the pleasant quiet atmosphere poolside. The pool isn't huge, but it's more than enough for a few people to dip in to cool off. They also have a jacuzzi, though we never went in it. They also have a sun deck in case you want the rays.

At 4pm they offered free drinks (happy hour!) poolside: not just cans of Bud Light mind you, but rum & coca-cola & mixers & vodka & even snacks.

When you're in Key West, you don't spend much time at your hotel, but with Eden House, you don't mind if you do. We'll definitely stay again.

Oh and we had nothing but wonderfu, helpful service from the whole crew, no matter what time of day we stopped by the front desk (even at 1am).

It's not the cheapest place to stay, but we felt that it was well worth the money.

What a great spot.  This quaint hideaway tends to the details of a luxury brand while maintaining a simple, relaxed atmosphere. During our stay, friendly staff, complimentary poolside happy hour and a peaceful setting minutes from the action all added to a fantastic experience.

"Guest House" -- not a B&B, not a big hotel -- maybe 40 rooms.  Cozy and comfy.  I had a charming room in the main building - 2nd floor.  Small microwave and fridge in room.  A/C and ceiling fan both worked well.  Staff was super pleasant, helpful, friendly.  Just terrific.  GREAT coffee in the a.m., afternoon cocktails, Saturday morning mimosas.  Truly enjoyed the pool (did not try the hot tub); lush and beautiful gardens and plants.  Staff worked night and day taking care of everything.  Generous supply of sunscreen and bug spray available.  Clean.  Nice. Terrific location - far from noise yet easy to get anywhere.  Good Value.  Would HIGHLY recommend and I would personally stay again.  Thank you to Mary Beth, Doug, Randy, Bridget.  A super special shout out to Elizabeth who I did NOT get to meet but who was the reason I stayed at Eden House.  Thank you so much.

My fiancé and I just had the pleasure of staying at Eden House this past week down in Old Town Key West and will definitely be keeping this place in mind for our next trip back.

The location is fantastic located just a few blocks from busy Duval St. where all of the action is. The immediate area around the hotel is quaint, quiet, and beautifully maintained. Walking around this area was a complete pleasure. You also get 20% of breakfast at the restaurant next door - Azur, which was delicious the two times we dined there for breakfast/brunch.

Staff at the hotel was beyond pleasant - Being from New York it was a nice change. We never lacked for anything which included many laughs and cold beer upon arrival. There is fresh, free, and absolutely delicious coffee in the lobby every morning/afternoon (babyscoffee. com) - This is what everyone will be getting for Christmas this year!

The outside pool area is really pretty, updated, and clean. We really loved the Coy pond when you first step outside. Plenty of lounge chairs as well as an elevated sun deck. Jacuzzi, outdoor shower options, and a HAMMOCK LOUNGE?! There were times I wondered what the monthly rent at this place would be... Do yourself a favor and don't miss the happy hour by the pool every day like we did

Only thing I would change is this: The room that we stayed in was small, cozy, but enough for us as we didn't spend too much time indoors. The bathroom door however was the challenge. What I mean is this - It wasn't a solid door, it's a slated door which means basically no privacy when in using the toilet. We had to take turns going out into the lobby or front porch when the ugly side of nature called... We laughed about it but it was still kind of odd..

I could go on forever but seriously: great place to stay, reasonable rates, super clean, great staff, free coin purses and stickers (and condoms), library, gift shop, cheap beer, hammock lounge, and a relaxed & chill atmosphere, who could ask for more when visiting Key West?

We miss you Eden House, can't wait to return!!

I have stayed here 3 times, the last time being right before Christmas. I will always book a room here when I go to Key West! This is such a beautiful place and very quiet and relaxing. The staff is amazing and actually recognized me the last time I was there. If you plan to go to Key West I highly suggest staying here!!

I stayed here for the first time this past weekend. And what a lovely suprise! The rooms are nothing fancy, but if you want more... pay more and go someplace else. I had the standard small room. Perfect for me. no frills, no tv. But i'm not here to sit in my room all night so rooms aren't such a big deal. i'm sure the larger rooms which cost more have more amenities.

What gives this place a top-notch for me... is the common areas. What a cool place to chill. I wish I had more time here without a hangover so i cold spend time chilling in the pool. The pool is sized very large for key west standards. Most hotels here house a 3' by 3' sized pool, but this one was much larger! They had several porch swings to chill out on, and several chairs around the top level decking so nobody has to stand. It was really beautiful!

So to my suprise that i've only just discovered this place. It's minutes walk from Duval.

I want to come back just for the common areas.

O yea, they offer free polar water and coffee 24/7. Super friendly staff as well!

After a relaxing four night stay, this place feels like home. From beginning to end, the staff was super friendly and helpful. Serene atmosphere with an oasis of foliage. Lots of shops and eateries in walking distance. {Attn VEGANS ..& vegan enthusiasts.. this place is in walking distance to 3 fantastic vegan cafes/juicebars/restaurants. (Help Yourself, Sugar Apple Foods, The Cafe)} Housekeeping and groundskeepers were quiet and efficient. We had a deluxe room with porch swing. Perfect size for a couple. Microwave & refrigerator for drinks & snacks. Cozy yet up to date room with flat panel TV and cool stone flooring for those humid FL days. Bathroom was very clean and shower operated perfectly. Shelves for toiletries. Patio had table and chairs in addition to porch swing which overlooked hammocks and lush foliage...lovely. Felt like we were on our own private island in the Eden House..even though we could walk to everything! Spent every day out at the pool which was very nice - tropical area with lounge chairs, umbrella tables, gazebo, hot tub. Very clean heated pool with rock fountain. Also a bathroom right in the pool area. Happy hour around 4:30/5 each day. Music plays in the pool area all day starting at 10..very nice, not too loud. Small gift shop with $20 soft hoodies and inexpensive gifts (mostly Eden House stuff). Library and computer/printer. Free WiFi access throughout hotel. Quirky signage. Free ice cold beer at check-in. Eden House has personality which really sets it apart from chain hotels. Very laid back. I think it's the perfect place to stay whether you're doing a lot of sight-seeing in Key West or just relaxing at the hotel in between meals. We will definitely be back!

Nice place with a friendly staff and, for Key West, it's reasonably priced.  The property is made up of several old houses and there's a pool in the middle of the buildings. They also have a complimentary happy hour booze cart where you can make your own cocktails by the pool. The only thing that keeps it from five stars is the lack of any soundproofing. You can hear people in the halls walking by and talking in the morning.
It's only about a quarter mile to Duval Street and is in a residential area. They also offer bike rentals for $10 a day.

This place has been a long-time favorite since innkeeper Michael related the story of how he got "sand in his shoes" and ended up running this place, which unbelievably was an old Havana ferry docks hotel and later euro-style just one step shy of a hostel hotel in the 1980s. Until he renovated and added the luxury loft suites around the pool we stayed in. Great sense of community (expect many europeans), salsa and reggae and Brazilian samba around the pool.

What a fantastic place to stay!

We were on our honeymoon, as part of the experience we decided to have two nights in Key West.

On check in they provided us both with a cold soft drink and then showed us to where our room was. The room was beautifully decorated, the bed was comfy and it was lovely and quiet.

The facilities were fantastic- happy hour by the pool every afternoon, as well as the pool there was the spa and places to sit and sunbathe.

Duval street which is the main street is a short walk away, which is extremely handy. At the same time when you are relaxing by the pool you could be a million miles away from everywhere. Fantastic.

Loved this place. Want to return. Just need to convince the hubby to get us there.

My husband and I were visiting Key West while on a trip to Hollywood, Florida.  We decided to stay overnight and are we ever glad we did!  Eden House is the most beautiful place we have ever stayed.  The staff is amazing, the grounds are beautiful, the room was comfortable, and the pool was perfect.  The only thing we regret is that we only had one night spend in this beautiful place.  A short, 5 block walk to Duval Street adds to the experience.  You can walk to Duval and the party life and then return to your own private piece of paradise.  Thank you Eden House and staff for making our trip to Key West the first of many.

Yes, the room and shower in our second level room were small, and the bed is just OK, but I couldn't help liking this place.  Parking was easy for us, the pool is nice, the access, and the staff are very helpful and friendly to get you to enjoy the place the islands have to offer. Bike rentals, tea at tehlobby, wifi, and all were of great use.

Look. Key West is WAY too expensive, all the hotels are way too expensive, Eden House is way too expensive. It's like "WHAT? that hotel costs WHAT? but.. I'm not the 1%! ".  So if you've made it past that hurdle and still want to go to Key West, here's my review.

"Eden" is a great description for Eden House. Lush, beautiful, serene, a little decadent. The setup reminded me of Cottages on River Road in CA where we stayed last fall (I reviewed) - sort of communal, but also private: a self contained little paradise. Immaculately clean, a comfortable bed and REALLY comfortable pillows - so much so that I pulled the pillowcase and pillow protector off of one and took a picture of the label so I could purchase the same one for home use later (FYI they're  "New Generation - Zone" pillows from Harbor Linen. omggggggg awesome. If you think I'm pushing a product for some reason, fee free to look through my other reviews, I don't do this sort of thing.).

The room was small, I take it this is more or less to be expected in Key West, where real estate is at a premium. Well appointed, with fridge and microwave, free and quite good coffee is available in the lobby, and I didn't feel self conscious padding there in my pajama shorts and bed head to get some. Large bathroom relative to the bedroom. One big complaint: I understand understated and minimalistic decor, but I think while they were putting the bathroom together they went to Home Depot and asked "please could you give us The Smallest Shelf Imaginable! Make sure it's the SMALLEST!" and then they took that back and cut it in half, too, before putting it up to hold your toiletries. Oh and then they stuck a bottle of soap, lotion, plastic wrapped plastic cups and a business card holder talking about environmentally sensitive towels or something but by that time I was way too annoyed with the lack of space for my toothbrush and legitimately concerned about electrocution because the only place to store my hairdryer and curling iron was IN the sink. I'm pretty sure that's how I'm going to die, by electrocution. Conversely, I'm also certain the Eden House will be shut down one of these days because of a tragic electrocution accident. ANYWAYS, I digress.

The location is slightly off the beaten path, but close to a couple of great restaurants, a few bars and bakeries. A short walk will get you to Duval St, but if you want to drive on insane Key West streets (a chaotic jumble of cars, bikes, rickshaws, scooters and pedestrians, half of whom are drunk, all of whom have a minimal grasp of traffic regulations) there's also parking for your vehicle. The Wi Fi is quite shitty. The porch swings and chairs out front are super comfortable. Super favourite feature for the germ freaks: "clean" remotes ( check it out cleanremote.com ) if you have a bottle of purell with you, you can dump some on it with a clean conscience and wipe it down easily. LOVE it.

I hate to give a good review because I don't want them to hike their prices :) but I just adored this place. The communal style isn't for everyone, but you don't have to interact with anyone if you don't want to. If I had to use one word, it would be "serene". In my memories, Eden House is green, beautiful, sweet smelling, comfortable, amazing.

I have never had a staff member slam my own hotel room door on me when my door was open. We were late to check out, by 15 min, the front desk girl (with short hair) unlocked our room and came in extremely irritated. She was clearly having a terrible morning and took it out on us when we paid more than double other hotel rates to stay there. We were going to stay an additional night for my birthday but left after her tantrum. The girl the day before with the long braids was extremely nice and helpful. Too bad the other girl ruined our experience there.

Usually hubby picks, but Eden House was my choice.  I wanted to be near the bight, and near our fav restautants.
Our room is small, yes.  We got the last available room on very short notice, so maybe we'll get a bigger room next time.  The bathroom was surprisingly large, they apparently did a renovation and I loved it.  The tv stand / open dresser was perfect, I was able to semi-unpack and stay halfway organized.  The hammocks are comfy.  All the other reviews about friendly and clean - spot on.

My only concern is being able to get our next reservation, if everyone realizes how special this place is!

Eden House was an amazing experience!!  When my girlfriend and I first arrived we were informed that we had been upgraded to a nicer and more expensive room for free.  What a great way to start your vacation right?  Once we checked in, we were given a tour of the hotel which included a free drink while we were shown around.  Our room was toward the back on the hotel with a private porch surrounded by hammocks.  Quite secluded and romantic.  The general environment of the hotel was very relaxed and cheerful.  The staff was always friendly and helpful.

There were all kinds of amenities included that were not mentioned on the website.  Every day between the hours of 4:00 and 5:00 is happy hour.  The staff brings out a cart with different types of juice and liquor for the guests to drink as much as they please.  There was also a small library my girlfriend took advantage of while we were there.  Eden House has a reading hammock way in the back where its quite and peaceful.  The bikes they rent out are hand painted and reasonably priced.  The staff is small so you see the same people all the time and get to build relationships with them.  Eden House is the perfect hotel if you are looking to experience the real Key West.

This was my third stay at eden house so my expectations were high because I had such excellent stays before. The placard in the rooms said that they will be cleaned between 8a and 2p. Im not sure if there have been budget cuts but my room wasn't cleaned until 3:40pm, even after asking the front desk twice if it could be cleaned earlier due to dinner reservations. My boyfriend even asked a housekeeper on the floor two rooms down if they would be cleaning it soon. They said they went to get someone to clean it. But an hour later, it was still not cleaned. The second time I asked a little over an hour later the girl at the front desk even glared at me. I had never had bad service here before so it was surprising. I was also disappointed to see that there were three rooms on my floor that were cleaned before mine due to supposed "check ins" but as of 5:00 am the next day- the rooms had their blinds open with rooms in pristine condition, no one had checked in to these rooms. I'm not sure why you would ignore someone who requested to have their room cleaned two hours earlier who is actually staying that night but prioritize rooms that no one will be in until the next day. When it was cleaned, it was not done well, the towels were stained and they didn't refill our soap. It felt like they didn't clean it on purpose because we requested it. They still got two stars for the great coffee, fruit in the morning and the relaxing pool but poor service will overshadow even the nicest touches. It's a fundamental expectation of any hotel/guesthouse stay.

What a quaint romantic little place!

My wonderful BF and I spent our one-year anniversary in Key West and stayed at Eden House.  The staff was extremely helpful, friendly, and professional.  The room was clean, neat, and smelled amazing.  Our room had a nice hammock/swing on the balcony which was a really romantic touch.  Wish we would have had more time to spend on it.

The only thing I would change is that I wish they had white towels in the bathroom instead of brown ones.  Other than that tiny change everything is perfect :-)

The front desk gave us amazing recommendations for food and entertainment. Rent a bike and head to Santiago's in old town. You would never know about it -  tapas and great Spanish wine! White Sangria was awesome!
Everything we ordered was awesome! Nice bike ride there And back!

We absolutely loved our stay at the Eden House and will definitely stay there during our next visit. We loved our room which had a porch that overlooked Fleming St. The iced tea/water that was available all day and the HH was a nice touch. The grounds were immaculate and had such a welcoming feel. Our only small problem was during check out when the guy wasn't trained on how to check people out. I guess they don't normally have people leaving at 6:00am. It wasn't a huge problem as we had already paid so we left our keys and had to leave to catch a flight. We had a wonderful experience and can't wait to go back.

Great place to stay while visiting Key West!!  Nice staff and well maintained property.  They have iced tea and water available at all times (as well as coffee) and towels for the pool.  They are very big on recycling which is a plus in my book.  We were very comfortable in our little room which really was only for sleeping purposes.

Our favorite place was to sit on the swing under the "gazebo."  There's also hammocks and lounge chairs everywhere.

There's not a lot of parking but that is everywhere in Key West.

We were impressed with the happy hour offerings and the other amenities.  If we ever get back to KW, we will definitely stay here!

I am absolutely obsessed, in love, and in awe of this hotel. First, we got there and were offered a complimentary beer upon check in (yum). The hotel clerk gave us a tour of the property and informed us of all the perks, one including a complementary happy hour everyday by the pool where you can make your own mixed drinks (unlimited).

The property transports you to another land, there is so much greenery everywhere like if you had walked into a Costa Rican jungle. They have an abundance of hammocks throughout the property where you can lay and contemplate how you got so lucky to be there in the first place.

Our room was extremely nice and right off the pool, literally, we opened our doors and the pool was two steps away. The staff is very nice and helpful, I had a lot of questions and they were able to answer all of them. You can also rent bikes with them which is cheaper vs going with a third party company.

Also, the hotel has it's own restaurant which is said to be very good and guests of the hotel get 20% OFF if you eat there. To top everything off, a couple of days after the GM sent me an e-mail thanking us for staying with them! A very nice touch and a first for me!

Highly recommend!!!

Don't stay in the Rutledge room - the wood walls are full of mold! They moved us to another room which is ok - the Conch room - it's nice, private jacuzzi, but right next to a restaurant where music blasts all night and people stand on the street corner telling all night. Walls are paper thin. I wouldn't ever recommend this place to anyone. WAY over priced for what the level of service you receive.

Ok - nice of the Eden House to respond but unfortunately our stay was VERY uncomfortable and we were never offered any type of compensation for our discomfort and inconvenience.

Also, the restaurant never turned the music off at 10. We had to ask them to each night even after they had closed. The manager "forgot" each night.

Again I'll reiterate, for the price this place charges, I shouldn't have any of these complaints.

Disappointed, uncomfortable and unhappy.

Take a beautiful destination and add the most guest friendly place I have ever laid my head and you have Eden House in Key West, Florida.
The hotel property is perfect. KOI pond, lovely pool, lush vegetation providing a nice blend of sun and shade, hot tub, gazebo, swings, hammocks, comfy seating in and out of the pool. The rooms are very well done with a more contemporary feel. Plenty of towels, toiletries, and storage.
They were so accommodating with storage for our luggage before and after our reservation. We were able to use a well stocked shower room after check out since the Key West Express didn't leave until later in the day. We got 2 full days of fun and exploring because of this flexibility.
The staff was always friendly, willing and able to answer our questions and provide suggestions. The other great extras included a free drink at check in (perfect for weary travelers). Coffee, iced tea, and water all day. Happy hour every day from 4-5 by the pool...FREE drinks for one hour, did I mention free? Bicycles to rent too.
This is a must stay place. We hope to return some day. Last note, we were here with our 2 teenage kids who were just as happy as we were.
