Not a fancy hotel by any stretch of the imagination.  I got a free upgrade from a regular king room to a studio "suite".  The breakfast spread is great.

It is not too far from downtown key west.  I think it would be at least a 30 mins walk.  I do like like the convenience of driving to one of the garages and be right in the middle of all the duval street and historic old seaport action.

Charming Fairfield Marriott. We loved the large pool and Tiki bar.  The staff was wonderful and very helpful. Smallish rooms -- our room didn't have a closet. Our room faced the back so it was nice and quiet. We used our Marriott points and stayed there for two nights before staying at Southernmost on the Beach for 3 nights. I liked the location of this hotel since it was away from the Duval crowds but taxi rides were cheap so the distance was a non-issue.  I would definitely stay at this Fairfield Marriott again -- loved the staff!

We few in from San Francisco a few days before to attend a ceremony at our daughter's medical school at the University of Miami.  She wanted to go to Key West, so we took the long drive there and stayed at the Fairfield Inn, mainly because we are Marriott Rewards members.  It is located a couple of miles from the main "action" of Key West, but that is okay because we didn't have to walk.  I did notice a preponderance of weekend Harley riders, probably middle age businessmen trying to act like Marlon Brando in "The Wild One".

We stayed in room 249 with a nice balcony (with seating) overlooking the pool and just above the seating area for the continental breakfast.  When we checked in, the clerk stated that there will be no partying allowed - maybe because this was Spring break. That was a relief, as I didn't want to be awoken but drunken people who think only of their loud boisterous behavior.  Our room was entirely tiled which is a changed from many carpeted rooms.   The room's rather loud cycling of the air conditioning was a bit annoying.  The sofa bed was uncomfortable, but luckily I didn't have to sleep there.

The next morning, we had our continental breakfast which is not as good as other Marriotts.  For example, the highlight was a frozen Jimmy Dean sandwich of an egg and ham that had to be microwaved.  In general, this wasn't too bad since it was high season in a tourist area. I gave it 3 stars, though I may be a little over generous.

Not a bad place to stay.  My only complaint was the size of the room.  I mean tiny.  2 oversized double beds and hardly any floor space.  Clean though.  I really enjoyed the continental breakfast, one of the best I have seen, and the pool area.  We had a late check in and this was the last available room.  This may have had something to do with the fact we got such a small room, I dont know.  It gets 3 stars.

If your looking for a hotel to actually relax in Fairfield inn is not the place. If you want to be comfortable you must get a suite. The standard rooms have major a/c issues 75  degrees is the norm around here. At times it may be cooling properly but the majority it does not. I've been moved 3x. Management is not very hospitable and act as if they don't have these issues.

Stayed two nights during a quiet week. The staff was exceptionally helpful and friendly from check in to check out. Cute beach themed rooms and a beautiful pool. Rented bicycles at a reasonable rate on location which was very convenient. Nice breakfast options. Really enjoyed the stay.  Would recommend to those who like to bike downtown and sleep restfully outside of town in a quiet location.

Like almost every Marriott property I have ever stayed in, this Fairfield Inn is clean and quiet.  There is a decent little bar by the pool.  The place is conveniently located and has pretty good parking for Key West.

The suites are quite large and are comfortable. I especially liked the tile floors throughout the room.  Due to the climate of south Florida carpet kind of grosses me out.

The service was pretty good, all the staff members I encountered seemed friendly and informative.

I will stay here in future trips to Key West.

My wife and I spent the weekend as a get-away from our kids.  The reviews mention it is clean.  I now think "Clean" is not what a hotel should aspire to, when I used to visit Rocky Point in Mexico clean would have been great.  I spent over $300 for one night (I get that it is busy this time of year), so I might look for something more than clean (it was clean by the way).

The room had a tile floor, a bed, no real decor, no view - we were overlooking a dumpster and some neighbor's backyard.

The hotel is about 2 miles from Duval St., it is not on the water.  There was a pool, free breakfast, and a bar which we didn't check out.

None of this was enough to make me want to hang around, and it wasn't great for a relaxing time..we left early.  Were we to return to Key West we would probably risk not getting a room and trying to stay in a B&B closer to town or something.

Nice place, lovely pool, fantastic front desk staff.  Only real downside is that it's too far from the waterfront/Duval area.  We spent way too much on cabs since who wants to drink and drive?  If they tied the shuttle from the other Marriott location in, this would be perfect.

The people at this hotel gave it the extra star here.  It is in an alright location, but a bit far from the action... a big plus is that you can buy a trolley ticket ($28 one day) and it picks up right in front of the hotel, so that was a nice bonus.

I think this is a converted hotel though, because they have a total of four buildings, and two looks really new, where two look like that went under some renovation.  The rooms are a bit small, but lets be honest -- you aren't in Key West to be in your room, so that really shouldn't be an issue.  The tiled floors are nice and cool to wake up to.  The bathrooms have obviously undergone an update, and they look fabulous.  I agree with Robert though -- the AC was a bit noisy, but you didn't really notice it until it switches off and then you realized it was loud.  Breakfast was good -- it is all outdoor pool side-seating though, so just be prepared for that if you are traveling in the summer heat.  When we were there eating breakfast at 8am it wasn't unbearable by any means, but we were also there in September.

So, my positivies, as I mentioned -- the people.  In particular, the front desk.  They were always so upbeat and very giving with their opinions and ideas for what we should do during our stay (see my reviews for Mangia-Mangia and the Ski Key West for some things I did).

I would definitely stay here again.

This hotel is very nice.  The pool is fantastic and the staff are very friendly and helpful.  We stayed in a suite, and apart from the bathroom which was in need of a little TLC, we were very happy.  The a/c was fairly quiet.  The town center is a short taxi ride away.  Despite extensive road construction in Key West we couldn't hear any noise from the hotel complex.  We'd stay here again.

Our Fairfield Inn hosts could not have been more welcoming. The breakfast spread is wonderful -with something for everyone - and that starts every day off well! Only about 5-7 mins drive to the sights, historical attractions and beaches, a great "launching pad" for island activities!  Loved the family (safe) atmosphere, beautiful fountains around the free form pool, and free HD HBO on the Panasonic HD TV.  Would stay here again.  :)

Squeaky clean and very quiet. Really nice staff.  Our Brevard video guy only stayed one night as he didn't have wheels and it was too far to walk to the Key West action. Our job was only a short walk away and that was more important to us.

You kinda get what you pay for. The location is about a 15 min drive (or cab ride) to Duvall St. - where all the happening is.

The staff is friendly and tries to be accommodating, there is free wi-fi, the free continental breakfast is good and the pool is nice - but the rooms leave much to be desired: just plain dirty. The comforter on our pull-out sofa had a blood stain on it. The sheets in the Queen bedroom where dirty (we found hair) and there was hair in around the bathroom sink. I've never stayed at a Marriott with these kinds of problems. However, customer service was great.

Also, it's more of a motel than hotel.

A friend of mine booked a room here for our guys trip. The room was probably around average as far as space goes. Probably just a little bit smaller. There was just enough room for two double beds and an armoir with a TV. The sink was right outside the bathroom, with your standard toilet and a stand up shower. They had complimentary toiletries like shampoo and soap as well as a blow dryer and Iron w/board. The room itself was clean and the beds were comfy.

The complimentary breakfast was OK. The seating is outside under a canopy and within view of the pool. Fresh fruit like bananas are laid out along with bagels, boiled eggs, coffee, doughnuts and batter to make fresh waffles in a waffle iron. There are also have some micro-wave-able breakfast sandwiches.

The pool area itself is quite nice. It's got 3 sections at different depths and some spouting water fountains. There's plenty of patio chairs and the area is not too big, but not too small.

The front desk/concierge people are very friendly and helpful. They have a giant pictorial book with probably every tour you can take on the island and will book a tour for you and answer any questions you have. The lobby is spacious with comfortable couches, there's a small store for basic needs, and a couple of lemon-aid/juice stations to quench your thirst. Complimentary of course.

If you need to print your boarding pass, the business center is on hand with two computers and a printer.

The bad thing, is that it's not within walking distance to Duval street. I would liked to have been able to go out, party and then stagger back to our room in a drunken state. Another unfortunate thing is that the highway or interstate that the hotel sits on is currently going through some construction efforts, and these have apparently been going on for a couple of years now. The drawback is that if you are driving, you have to take this long roundabout way to get back to the hotel. If you have adjusted to island time, it wont bother you.

The plus side to that is that you can just call a cab and it wont cost a whole lot considering the driving proximity to everything. And some of the tour companies will pick you up from the hotel. But then again, they have to take that long convoluted way back to the hotel, but at least you wouldn't be the one driving.

So all in all in all it provides a great stay.

My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights and had an overall very good experience. The rooms are comfortable and clean.  We were greeted at check-in by very friendly staff - Igor and Veronica - who gave us Mardi Gras beads and a delicious fruit drink.  The staff continued to provide us lots of detail on the property and the Key West area.

We were upgraded to a King Suite right above the lobby due to our Marriott Rewards status (Silver Elite).  The room was spacious and comfortable.  You can tell the buildings are older, but they've been nicely updated and maintained.  Our unit had a big walk-in shower, the kind we keep saying we'd like to build in our own house.  Our unit had a balcony with partial views of the big pool.

My only complaint about the room was that it was between the pool and the road, so there was a decent amount of noise.  We were both woken up a few times during each night.  It wasn't excessive, though, a minor annoyance.

The pool is the highlight of the property, along with its tiki bar.  The water is pretty warm (could be warmer) and the fountains drown out the road noise nicely. The bartender is very nice, and his drinks were delicious (but pricey).  He's a Connecticut native, so we could relate on our hatred of cold winters.

My first complaint is that the breakfast was disappointing. Maybe its the Fairfield Inn standard, but the hot food was low quality. We have stayed at other Marriott properties that have higher quality hot food. We pretty much stuck to bagels and fresh fruit. For whatever reason, I'm guessing cost, the hot food felt like it was out of a Jimmy Dean frozen breakfast.

My second (and last) complaint is that the location isn't ideal for a Key West vacation.  The resort doesn't offer a shuttle (unlike the other 2 Marriott properties on the island), so we had to pay a $10-$15 taxi fare each way to get to the Duval Street area.  We knew this when we booked, so it wasn't a surprise, but it did start to feel excessive after a couple days.  There's an island bus service which we thought we might use, but it is very infrequent and not too close to this hotel.  The trolley tour service is pricey.

if the breakfast was bigger, and the transportation easier, I'd give this a 5 star review.  When we return to Key West, we're going to explore other options that are closer to Duval Street, or provide transportation.  Like I said above, the pool and the staff really helped make this experience enjoyable.

(One last note on that staff.  I give them lots of credit for the way they handled a difficult situation while we were there.  We observed on a couple occasions a family by the pool who had a member of their party display behaviors consistent with special needs.  Observing from a distance, the staff seemed to bend over backwards to help them out and make their experience enjoyable.  We didn't have any direct interactions in their situation, and were trying to respect their privacy, but we felt happy with what we observed.)

Clean, bleach-scented room. Beach-like feel. Tiled floor throughout. Painted stucco walls and ceiling: sky blue, sunny yellow, crisp white. Charming shutters on the window interior. No full-length mirror but you're on an island where shorts and flip flops are the norm so usually it won't matter.

The ceilings are low and if you're tall, the shower may be a challenge. I could easily touch the ceiling.

If you're going to Duvall for the restaurants and night life, you'll probably need some transportation (definitely if you're wearing heels). You can take a cab or rent a scooter. Fyi, the speed limit on the island is maxed around 40-45 mph. There's a scooter rental office conveniently located near the pool. Taxis are plentiful on the island.

I was debating 3 stars since I expect more from a resort area like Key West but the continental breakfast and friendly staff pushed it to 4.

It's nice for a short stay!

Based on other reviews, it seems people either love or hate this place.  I loved it.  I stayed in room 236 in February, 2014.

I first want to make note of a nice employee.  Veronice checked me in - she was very sweet.  As soon as I went in my room, a smoke alarm malfunctioned and started beeping.  I called down to her and immediately, I mean within seconds, a guy knocked on the door and fixed it.  That night I found a note in my room from Veronice apologizing for the inconvenience (it SO wasn't any inconvenience at all) and tix for free drinks at the Tiki Bar there in the hotel.  Even though the alarm issue was really a non-issue for me, I thought she was so nice to apologize for it.

I will begin with all that is great about this hotel.  For starters, I love the Key West feel to it.  They keep the décor very Key Westy - love it.  The rooms are painted cool colors, and have "shutter-type" windows that are very nice touches.  My room had 2 double beds (double, not queen).  The beds were very comfortable, and the sheets were crisp and clean.  One thing in particular I liked was that the room was tiled, instead of carpeted - never saw that before.  To me, tile seems so much cleaner than carpet.  The vanity area is outside of the toilet/shower area and the countertops were also tiled - I LOVED that tile; it gave the room very nice character (see my photos).  There was a little cubby hole for extra towels and the coffee pot.  The bathroom was super-clean, and I say that because the shower had glass doors that were spotless!  I liked the glass doors rather than a shower curtain.  There were plenty of fresh, big towels.  My room also had a microwave and a frig.  Even though it was February, it was still hot outside - but, the A/C was very efficient and kept the room very comfortable.

The breakfast area is by the pool and is big, and airy, with nice fans and, again, the Key West-type, laid-back décor.  The breakfast on Sunday was till 11am - I LOVED THAT.  In most hotels, it's only till 9:30am, sometimes 10am.  It's a huge breakfast buffet with anything you could want.  You can eat under the open-air shelter, or out by the pool.  Whichever you choose, it is relaxing and beautiful.  The people who run the breakfast are just so nice (as was everyone at this hotel who I came into contact with).  They are helpful, keep the place clean, and were pleasant and nice.  Great staff!

Now that pool.  The pool here is something you would see in a resort.  It is HUGE, with fountains, and lots of beautiful palm trees and foliage.  There were a lot of people at the pool, but it didn't seem crowded because the pool is so big. Right by the pool is the breakfast / eating area, and a Tiki Bar that opens at noon.  There are also very nicely-kept restrooms right by the pool.  The pool area, even if you don't go in the pool, is really such a beautiful area to relax and chill-out.

The parking for this hotel is free.  There is a LOT of covered parking, but if that is full (it never was for me), then there is plenty of regular parking.  Wifi is also free here, and it is really good wifi.  It was speedy in my room, and by the pool and bar.

The hotel does have a couple negatives.  One is that the rooms open to outdoor corridors - like old style.  Normally, I don't like that, but my room opened to a view of the magnificent pool, so I was okay with it.  Another negative is the room was very small.  With the 2 beds, a tiny table, and the dresser with the TV, there wasn't much move-around space.  It was comfortable for 2 people, but would be tight for 4.  And, the bathroom was really, really small; yet, the shower was very roomy - if that makes sense.  Try and get a pool view room; otherwise, you overlook the parking lot - NOT a nice view.  The biggest negative is the price.  This hotel is expensive!  It was over $200 a night (Feb. 2014), so I opted to use my Marriott points.  When I normally use 10,000 or 15,000 points - this hotel was 35,000 points.  That's New York expensive!  But, in all fairness to the hotel, I shopped around for cheaper and that was the going rate!  Key West is just an expensive place to stay!

The location is decent, less than 2 miles from downtown Key West.  I noticed that there were a lot of bicycles (and scooters) in the covered parking area, so I think you can rent a bike/scooter from the hotel - which would be an excellent choice.  Key West is small and with a bike or a scooter you can get all over the island in minimal time and not have to look for parking downtown (downtown street parking was $2 an hour).  You won't have a problem walking or biking around Key West - it is very laid back and even though there is traffic, the streets are small and it is very pedestrian and bicycle-friendly.

I liked the hotel and would most definitely stay here again.  The laid-back feel, the décor and the friendly employees really made it a nice place to stay.

Although Marriott brags that this vibrant Key West style Fairfield is the closest Marriott property to Duval Street, it is not within walking distance. So you either have to cab it over to Duval, drive and pay for parking or rent scooters (which is what I would highly recommend). If you want to rent scooters don't rent them from the Fairfield since the price tag at the Fairfield is a lot higher than other local scooter rental shops close by like Key West Moped & Scooter rentals- don't worry, they'll pick you up and drop you off when you are done.

Check-in experience was lovely. This Fairfield is the only hotel in Key West who has got it right when it comes to being friendly and being hospitable. We were given a sweet juice drink upon check-in which was a nice touch and front desk staff was extremely pleasant.

Poolside complementary breakfast was delightful: Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwiches, eggs, waffles, cereal, bagels, toast, muffins, etc.  breakfast staff were accommodating and always asking if we wanted refills on OJ or something else from the breakfast so that we wouldn't have to get up.

The resort style pool was a nice oasis getaway from the Key West commotion and debauchery. The pool area is the one thing that Marriott should boast about this property.

Rooms were "eeeeeeehhh" and a bit below average. Rooms were small, but clean. Beds were as hard as a rock and forget about queen/king size beds and prepare yourself to cuddle closer with your significant other/bunkmate because the beds are full size. A part of the bathroom -the sink- was shared with the room leaving the shower and toilet private. Bathroom was tiny and the water pressure from the shower head was like an elephant hose, which I guess is okay if you like a deep tissue massage whole showering.

Parking is free and that is a great thing when you are staying in Key West because most hotels charge for parking due to the lack of parking on the island. Oh, and parking is covered which is an extra plus!!

Overall, I had a pleasant stay at the Fairfield and would stay here again if rates are low and I feel the mood to rent scooters. If you have the chance to stay at The Banyan Resort rather then the Fairfield, then do it because it's more or less the same price and in the middle of the Duval Street action!

This hotel is two miles from duval street so a taxi is required. One time our rate was $16 and another night $9. Not sure how they determine cab fares in this town.

The rooms are clean and updated. Very quiet. Pool area is resort like. Friendly front desk staff.

The free breakfast buffet is plentiful....waffles, sausage, eggs, hard boiled eggs, pineapple, melon, toast, juice, coffee, yogurt, oatmeal. Very friendly breakfast staff. They clear your plates.

At 4pm each day, the pool bar hands out Popsicles.

I stayed here as part of a wedding at a reduced rate. I would prefer to be in walking distance to duval, but the amenities here are great. Lots of free parking....some is covered! Next door there is a great BBQ place and a crossfit to burn it off.

The hotel is very vibrant. Room was ready and clean when we arrived. We stayed in a "standard" room, which was smaller than most hotel rooms I have stayed in. No closet. Staff was very friendly and welcoming, giving us a map of the property and of the island and recommending places to go. Parking is included. All of the rooms opened to a covered outside walkway. The hotel is an elevated two stories, so the first floor is technically parking, and rooms 100+ are up a flight of stairs, 200+ up two flights of stairs (there were some elevators, we did not use them). We got two tickets for buy one get one free drinks at the tiki bar by the pool when we checked in (opened from 12-9pm.) Drinks there were outstanding! We only stayed one night unfortunately. Breakfast was included. Standard hot continental breakfast- eggs, sausage, cereal, fruit, waffles, juice, coffee etc. Pool was not very busy. There were a few kids there. A cab cost about $10-12 for the two of us each way. They held our bags at the front desk after we checked out while we snorkeled. You can also rent bikes and scooters from the hotel.

If you do not stay right on or near Duval St, I would say this is a great option. I am not sure what the draw is to the Marriott Beach Front Resort there, as the beaches are not that great and it is even further from most of the happening places on Key West. Price was about $225 a night, which is what you would expect for a nice hotel in the islands.

This was our first time staying at this hotel and used our Marriott points for a 3 night stay. The reception was very friendly and helpful  with checking us in. Our room faced the nicely designed, large pool located inside the hotel courtyard, but the room wasn't very soundproof and we could clearly hear the noise from all the kids in the pool.  We went back down to the reception and asked about switching rooms and it was taken care of immediately by the pleasant woman at the desk. She switched us to another room facing the residential area which was much quieter. The room itself wasn't huge but fine for 2 people, was neat and clean and the king bed/pillows were very comfortable. Unlike many surrounding hotels, we were glad that parking and the wifi was free.  The free (basic) wifi signal was very good with a strong, consistent signal in our initial 1st floor room and in the one we moved to on the other side of the resort (2nd floor).

The free continental breakfast each morning was basic but decent and had a nice patio area with tables next to the lovely pool area. The restaurant itself doesn't have a restaurant but if you like Vietnamese or Cambodian food, there's a very good little place in the plaza right next door called Sister Noodle House that's worth checking out.  Seeing how many people were in there at lunch time made us feel confident it was a good choice, and it was.  We took our order to go and ate it back at the resort on the outside patio.

All in all we had an very enjoyable stay and would definitely stay here again.

Pros: Very helpful staff. Great pool. Free breakfast buffet. Great concierge. Very clean room and bathroom. Not too far from Duval.

Cons: The room was a little small and the water pressure in the shower wasn't that strong.

The cons were me being nit-picky. I didn't come to Key West to hang out in my hotel room. Great place.

Amenities are good, but it is a little far from all the attractions of Key West.

Just to get it out of the way first, if you want to walk to Duval street, this is not where you want to stay.  Key West may not seem large (1.5 miles by 4 miles) and even though this hotel is approximately 2 miles from Duval street, you wouldn't want to walk there.  Therefore, even though you might save a bit on the room, you might end up paying it with the taxi (taxi cost us $4.50 per person and there were 5 of us).

There is a trolly that stops here and will take you around the island.  However, the trolly only goes one way (so you are stuck on it for 90 minutes if you want to get to the stop right before the Fairfield Inn) and it ends at 4:30 p.m.

The good is this is a very nice hotel.  The pool area is large and there are some great cabanas.  It's very clean and modern.  We hung out at the hotel bar for a bit and really enjoyed it.

The complimentary breakfast is very good.  They have eggs, waffles, sausages, bagels, etc.  It was a great variety.

I probably wouldn't stay here again just because I want to be in the heart of Key West, but it is a great option.
