We drove down from miami and did not arrive until 10pm and were tired and ready for bed.  As soon as we entered our room the mildew smell was overwhelming.  After much complaining on our part,  hotel had to replace the air conditioning unit.  While this was going on, we went to the drugstore and purchased Lysol spray to try and get the smell out of the room enough so we could sleep.  It was midnight before we able to get into pjs and lay down.  By spraying the room every hour, we were able to sleep a little.  By the next day the smell was gone and we looked forward to a little r and r.  The pool was awesome, great drinks, good service and live reggae music.  After a couple of hours of the loud reggae music and drinks, a nap would have been nice, but the music was too loud and could even be heard in our room.  Oh well, we can sleep tonight.  Alas,  the hotel had a wedding with speeches and music blaring so we could not sleep or read or think that night.  I am laying in bed trying to read with a pillow over my head.  Maybe tomorrow we can get a good night of sleep on our vacation?  Don't come here for peaceful r and r and come prepared with Lysol spray and ear plugs.  The grounds were beautiful and the rooms tastefully decorated and bed comfortable.  Can't understand why they must have all music so loud it can be heard from all rooms and why they cant maintain ac and change filters often. At this rate this is unacceptable.

We just got back from our Key West First Anniversary Vacay, and I LOVED Southernmost Hotel!!  It is a bit expensive, but I think it's worth it.  The location is great if you're trying not to be in the middle of all the action on Duval.  I'm pregnant, so this was perfect for me...we could walk to everything but weren't overwhelmed by the crowd and noise and drunk people all over.  We were debating between this hotel and a few others on Duval, and I'm so glad we chose this...it was soooo clean!  I feel like the other places are sort of older and musty.  A lot of reviews from the other hotels complained of old furniture.  I know they have recently renovated Southernmost, so we must have gotten a renovated room because everything pretty much looked clean and new.  They upgraded us to a King Superior room that overlooked the pool at a discounted price.  I wish we got the upgrade for free, but the discount was fine.  The hotel is literally like a minute walk to Southernmost Beach hotel, so we pretty much went there everyday.  The pool area at the Beach hotel is much bigger, and they have a live band that played that was really good and made it more lively.  It's hard to get chairs with an umbrella though if you don't go early.  I would say to stay at this hotel and not pay the price of the beach hotel since it's literally across the street.  We didn't eat at the hotel at all, so I can't comment on the food.  The service was great and everyone was super friendly (especially compared to Miami, where we went next)!!  We got a nice little box of chocolates with a card on our bed for our anniversary.  I only gave it 4 stars because the beach is a little misleading.  Southermost beach hotel has it's own "private beach" which is just some sand in a very small area, then a pier with a ladder you walk down that takes you to the water.  So it's not really a true beach.  There is a public beach right next door which they help maintain, and have a beach cafe on.  That beach is very sea-weedy and also pretty small.  It would have been so much better if they just cleaned up the sea-weed daily.  It doesn't have to be perfect, but it would have helped.  Esp for such a small beach.  After seeing that, we just stuck with the pool and waited till we got to Miami for our beach time.  I heard the beach cafe has a good happy hour, but we didn't partake.  All in all, I would DEFINITELY stay here again if I came back to Key West, and I would tell my friends too!  The cleanliness was key for me!

We were able to get a great deal for a weekend stay here at the last minute.  The hotel was nice and clean and very conveniently located.  The best part was Alan, the concierge who was super friendly and incredibly helpful.  He helped us find restaurants and a fun day of affordable activities.  I will definitely stay here again!

This was a great place to stay in Key West. It is on the other side of Duval Street, so its a little bit of a walk to Sloppy Joe's and Mallory Square, but it is also much quieter and peaceful. Not that you can hear anything in the rooms anyway, I swear, they've got some kind of soundproofing in the walls or something. It was awesome. Really clean, not too fancy. They have a great Tiki Bar right at the pool - very convenient - and the bartenders are the greatest. If you want to swim in the gulf, guests can get free chairs on the private beach right there plus, there is a really nice tanning pier with stairs that go right into the water. Definitely try the Southernmost cafe around the corner. We had some amazing meals there, plus, its right on the beach/water.

Hint: we got a great deal on our stay from Travelocity.

I pulled all my wedding guests from this hotel because of their terrible customer service. I had contracted a special rate, but when my guests went to book, they encountered nothing but trouble. One friend booked just fine, but TWO AND A HALF WEEKS later finally got a confirmation that had him in the wrong type of room. When he called to fix it they said they couldn't because they didn't have any more of that type of room. Another friend was also told they were out of that type of room but their website said they had rooms available. There are plenty of other hotels on the island so we found another, with much better service.

Great hotel. Fantastic customer service!
we stayed at Southermost on the Beach as well and it was just such a treat! the rooms are brand new, furniture's elegant and I absolutely love how they've found ways to help you conserve energy!
the shower was huge and the balcony very relaxing.
their pool area is great, the sand area by the beach could've been bigger I suppose. We didn't get the chance to eat at the hotel because of all the restaurants that Key West has to offer! but overheard here n there that their food is great. I was on vacation for over a week in Miami/key west and the bartender at this hotel was the one who made the best drink I had during the whole vaycay!
Front desk is super friendly, concierge is knowledgeable.
Crowd is more young couples..
loved this hotel! will definitely go back =)

We recently stayed at Southernmost on the Beach and loved it! We split our stay between this hotel and the Marriott Beachside hotel, and were surprisingly sad to leave Southernmost for the larger resort.

The Good:
-Location - right near Duval but at the 'quiet' end. You can walk to Mallory Square in about 30-45 mins
-Charming, quaint, and homey
-The beds!! We have a heavenly bed (westin's brand) in our house. This bed was comparable and definitely better than the Marriott's. Super comfy!!!
-The best part of the hotel is the 'beach' area tucked in the back. It's not an actual beach (although there is one right next door). This is more of an area they have filled with sand, which has palm trees, hammocks, beach chairs and a fabulous pier you can lay out on. While the pool is nice, it's more crowded and louder/active. This area is so relaxing and the view of the ocean is perfect! It definitely made the stay feel more tropical lounging here versus the pool. We came back to lay out here even after we had moved on to the Marriott.
-The pool bar drinks and food are both nice
-The decor of the updated rooms is attractive and enjoyable
-Staff is super friendly/helpful
-It has a very quaint feel to it, unlike larger hotels. It is not as fancy or commanding, but there is something really nice about that while staying in Key West

I usually go for swanky and bigger is usually better for me. However this place was just right! I would absolutely stay here again. While the Marriott was very nice and I would also highly recommend staying there as well, there is something so charming and relaxing about this hotel that would keep me coming back!

We requested a high floor and they gave us an upgrade to an oceanview. We stayed in room 657 which was wonderful!

Beyond exceptional! This was my first time in Key West, as well as the entire family. We had flown down for my wedding. My three favorite staff members were Inga from the front desk and Johnny B. & Tim from the Pineapple bar. Both Johnny and Tim made it so much fun at that pool bar that our group skipped going out on Duval a few nights just to stay and have drinks at the hotel. Inga was more than exceptional for upgrading myself & my husband, as well as my sister-in-laws to better rooms (one sister for poolside construction, the other sister for being a newly wed, and us for our upcoming wedding that Saturday). We frequently had breakfast at the Beach Cafe and it was always delicious! Everything from checking in to booking activities was made easy and relaxing thanks to the exceptional staff. Any future visits to Key West will include another stay at this hotel collection!!!

This is a review for the southernmost hotel ( not on the beach): It was an absolute pleasure staying at this hotel. When trying to book, the hotel was coming up as "sold out" on sites such as Expedia, orbitz, etc. however, we called the hotel directly and there were still rooms available, and at the prices listed on those discount websites. We were overly pleased to see how clean and accommodating the southernmost hotel collection was. Our room ( described as a small queen) was no where near small! It was quite roomy and beautiful. The staff at the hotel were extremely helpful and we would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone. Perfect key west location, looking forward to coming back!

Great hotel. We stayed in the Southernmost on the Beach and we took full advantage of all of the amenities daily. The beach cafe made good food for reasonable prices, the private beach was clean and well tended, the pool was great and so was the Shores Bar right next to it. Pricey drinks but great service. If Kevin the bartender is there at night, be prepared for awesome conversation that will keep you talking for quite a while. I will definitely go back to this hotel next year. The staff in every part of the hotel was incredibly friendly and hotel.

My family stayed in the separate house. We rented the entire thing and the privacy was lovely but the room that you can only access from the outside has an unbearable mold problem. Other than that everything was lovely...what's not to love it's Key West!

My partner and I just stayed at the Southernmost last week and we were pleased with the experience.  I would stay there again.

Pros:
*  The room was clean and in generally good order - it was a MUCH nicer place than expected for the money paid (our deal was $119 per night + tax).
*  The decor was attractive and the balcony was a nice addition.
*  The room had a mini-fridge and a microwave - terrific for leftovers.
*  The location is stellar - at the end of Duval (quiet but close to the action).
*  They provide terrific Eco-friendly bath products.
*  We had a minor maintenance issue and the repair was quickly and efficiently handled.
*  They had bike rental on-site - $25 for 4 days (bikes weren't terribly attractive, but they worked and were actually pretty comfy).

Cons:
*  The room was musty smelling and became very damp if the AC wasn't cranked ... So we could open the balcony door to eliminate the smell, but the bed became very damp until we closed the door and turned up the AC.
*  The tile floor appeared to be clean but was actually pretty dirty - the bottoms of our feet were black when we didn't wear flip-flops in the room.

Notes:
*  There is currently construction on the pool area and it's closed off.  Not a problem for us since we prefer ocean swimming, but it's something you should know.

Tip:
*  We found a pretty good rate online but decided to call and ask some questions before booking.  We asked about specials during the phone call and got a rate that was $30 cheaper than what we found online.

This is one of the most pleasurable experiences we have had with a hotel/vacation in a very long time.  I cannot recommend the Southernmost enough and am amazed at their wonderful accommodations, customer service and location, location, location.  The rooms are beautiful and the showers and beds are amazing!  Hotel amenities are top notch and anything we needed during the time we were there was taken care of immediately and with a smile.  The first day we called for help with the air conditioning unit because we weren't sure how to operate it and within 5 minutes there were three technicians at our door who immediately fixed the problem.  The attention to customers is unequalled.  Each pool is gorgeous with either peaceful waterfalls (the tranquility pool), fountains and plenty of activities for both children and adults.  The Tiki Bars are fabulous and staffed by bartenders who really pay attention to detail and get to know their clientele.  The location is on the quiet end of Duvall but within walking distance of everything anyone would need including two cafe's, restaurants and bars.  My husband and I didn't want to leave and we plan on making this a yearly ritual!

Great hotel. Nice tranquility pool, very close to the beach, and near Butterfly Conservatory.  Only complaint was that their satellite tv was out several times over a two day period due to rain.

This is for the Southernmost on the Beach on South Street. This resort is on the beach., two Beach's actually with a very nice pool.
We had room 739 which has a beautiful balcony looking out onto the ocean, our taxi driver said the best room on the island. Not sure if that is true, but is was very nice. House keeping was excellent, the hotel beach side restaurant was very good for breakfast. Poolside drink service was also very good. The only complaint was the long delay at check in, we got there at noon and did not get into the room until after 4 pm.
Location was good , the far end of Duval and about a 15 minute walk to Front Street. A small grocer across the street for low cost pop, beer and snacks.

This review is for The Southernmost Hotel on the Beach.

Stayed here for 5 nights in May, and I was impressed with this hotel from my first interaction with them. I called to make my reservation, so I could select the right room. The lady on the phone was so patient, showing me photos on the website that correlated to the rooms I was considering.  Ended up booking one that was on the first floor, facing the water.

Upon arrival, we were greeted warmly, and quickly checked-in. I appreciated that they did not force the concierge on us, and just noted that she was there for assitance if needed.

Our room was exactly what we had hoped for, updated, modern, well lit, and right out our window was the ocean.  The grounds were beautiful, spacious and inviting.  We spent many afternoons lounging in the hammocks.

The location is great - we rented scooters for the week and were able to get around the island easily and quickly.  Also, after seeing the hotel I had considered on the other end of Duval, I was so pleased with my choice when I saw the gigantic cruise ship blocking that entire hotels view of the ocean.  We had gorgeous views with no interruption at Southernmost!

Very nice. Saved a bunch of money staying here instead of the southermost on the beach. I was worried I would look like a cheap-a to my girlfriend by booking the "lesser" hotel, but they didn't let me down.

I didn't think we missed out on any of the amenities. Beach access, towels, 3 pools...two with nice bars.

In general, the beaches in key west suck. Southermost is one of the bigger / better beaches on the island, but they just can keep up with the smelly seaweed and there isn't any good beach snorkeling.

If you want a nice beach, pack a cooler, and make a 30-45 minute drive to another more remote key. Or better yet, up the annie and go to the Caymen Islands for the PERFECT beach experience.

We found this hotel by looking at reviews on yelp and tripadvisor, and they were overall very positive, so we booked before seeing the hotel in person.

We were happily rewarded- arriving late at night, we checked in for our economy king room, around $179, and were given an upgraded room with a balcony overlooking the nice fountain for free, for our anniversary. (Note to those checking in late- make sure to check out at the front desk and get a receipt if they offer you a free upgrade. The computer didn't register that the upgrade was free, so they tried to charge us for the full amount, but then corrected the error.)

The room was decorated with dark wood paneling, and was sophisticated and relaxed. The balcony was outfitted with two cute wicker chairs and a small table. The breeze coming off the fountain was soothing.

The bed was luxurious, the room was quite clean, and the bathroom had a wider rain shower. The provided in room shampoos and soaps were of nicer quality than most hotels, and they smelled quite good.

The cleaning staff did bother us a bit after we'd confirmed a late checkout, but I think that was because they didn't speak english. They weren't belligerent.

We didn't get a chance to go to the beach or use the amenities much, as we had to leave the following morning, but the hotel is only a block from the southernmost point in the US, so we walked over and snapped a few pics. There was quite a line for photos!

I think if I went back to Key West I would probably stay in one of the smaller Inns to mix things up, but this hotel is a good bet for anyone looking for beach access, amenities, and clean rooms. Nice staff as well.

Stayed at the Southernmost Beach Hotel on 11/30 and 12/1.  Had a horrible room.  The room had no hot water for 2 days.  The iron was broken and leaked all over my shirt as I tried to iron my shirt.  I complained to the hotel and the iron was never replaced.  The hot water valve was replaced only to give us warm water, if that.
Overall the only nice thing about the hotel was the friendly staff at the front desk.  I paid $260 a night and could of gotten a better deal a mile away.
Even complaining to the manager, I only was given 1/2 off one night's stay.  This is still not worth the value or price.  Key West is a small city with plenty of better places.

I got married here in Nov 2012 and my guests (all 110 of them!) could not say enough good things about this place. The venue, pool, food and drinks were amazing. The hotel collection is rather large and allowed for guests the option to stay on either side of the street. Rooms on either side of the hotel were beautiful and updated. We cannot wait to come back and visit for years to come!

This is a nice property and one of the few with an actual beach, albeit a small one - about 200 feet.

I would normally give a place like this 3, possibly even 4 stars. They got a 2 from me because every time you turn around they're reaching into your pocket. Want a beach chair - cha ching. Oh, you want an umbrella too - cha ching.
They charge enough for the rooms without hitting you over the head every time they can. If they need more than that just charge a couple if bucks more for the room and stay out of my pocket.
Now I need to temper those remarks with these facts.  Later in the day they came around and offered cold towels to everyone who rented a chair or umbrella.  Later yet, they came around and offered a popsicle.

so not worth the money. I called about 4 months ago to make a reservation as the majority of the wedding guests were staying there and asked for the room to be near a fellow bridesmaid. When I arrived at the hotel the front desk staff was blase and I was told that my room was on the other side of the property due to my "Rate class" (yes $20 a night off your normal rate is a deal!, not.) We go to our room and it stunk like moldy, dirty feet. I go back to the front desk and was told they could change the air filter and run the ionizer for an hour and that MIGHT help, but we can't be in the room. Mind you, we had just arrived and needed to get ready for the rehearsal dinner. After about 10 minutes of complaining on my part as they wanted to downgrade our room, they finally "found" another room to put us in. The room was large, decorated well and didn't smell which was nice.
We went to the bar to grab a snack,  where there was one bartender who was nice, but moved at a glacier pace and couldn't keep who ordered what straight (I was 1 of 2 and there were 4 people next to us, who she charged us for their drinks)
After the rehearsal dinner I went to use the bathroom in the room and there was a large palmetto bug in the bathroom, that made me feel wonderful about the cleanliness.
Even though we had the AC running all the time, the room would get very humid when we weren't there, I live in Florida and don't have that problem at 90% of hotels or my home.
We never saw any staff except for the front desk staff.
Upon checking out I noticed a few extra charges from the bar on my bill, after waiting for almost 20 minutes for the receipts to be pulled, they were removed as the receipts weren't signed.
We couldn't even check out without issues.
This is supposed to be a "Resort" it was more like a hotel and I have stayed in many places in Key West for less money, with better service and cleaner rooms.
Won't be going back.

i had a wonderful stay at "southermost at the beach"  (their other hotel)

had an issue I took with the reception at the hotel, behind the counter sat two hillbilly couple and was very unpleasant. our conversation was taken from a brother cohen movie

I went instead to the reception at the "southernmost at the beach" and they solved my problem in a simple way.

Tried the bar aswell, bartender was very nice but the drinks was not good

would never stay at this hotel

I Stayed at the Southern Most Hotel (not the one on the Beach)
and I wasn't sure what to expect, as these are a triad of 3 hotels all owned by the same people and right across from each other, mine was the slightly cheaper one (but at $190 a night, I wouldn't call it cheap!) and I was wary of it. But no need! The hotel was really cute and charming.

I will say, I did end up switching rooms because my original room was TINY and I get claustrophobic, so for $25 more a night, we upgraded to a room with a balcony and got A LOT more space for the buck. Plus it overlooked the pool, so that was great! The hotel staff were gracious, the pools were awesome, you get access to the 2 other hotel pools and their bars. That made the whole experience even better.

I wish the pools didn't close at 11pm, but c'est la vie!
We mentioned it was our anniversary and we got 2 complimentary drink tixs for their bars, and wifi is free with their password.
I would come back in a heartbeat.

Will be back soon!
this was my first time staying in the keys so i can not compare to any other property but I had such a pleasant stay. The location is perfect and do not need a car. The property has every amenity you need while spending time in paradise i.e. pools, beach, pool bars, swimming pier, snorkeling, all day activities, restaurant / bar on beach, complimentary waters everywhere and towels. Customer service was excellent to boot.
Cant wait to go back and get a water view room.

The Southernmost Hotel is actually one of two sister hotels making up the "Southernmost Hotel Collection". The two hotels are actually right next to each other. This is the hotel which is NOT directly on the water.

The hotel is located perfectly for those wanting to be close to the action of Key West without being right in the middle of it. Located on the south end (the quiet end) of Duval St, you are a block away from the beach, across the street from a car, bike and scooter rental place and close enough to the crazy Duval St to walk to easily.

The hotel rooms are nicely sized and you can either choose to have a patio or a balcony (for a fee, of course). Each building is right next to a pool, though you may not have a view of it. The pool and tiki bar next to our building were closed for renovation during our stay (which was during the off season).

That was fine though - one of the perks of staying at either of the Southernmost Hotels is that you get full access to all of the amenities of the OTHER Southernmost Hotel. So, stay at the cheaper one, and you still get to use the pool, bar and beach of the more expensive one which is just a short block away.

Your room card also gets you a free beach chair rental (normally $5 each) at the small beach right next to the hotels.

As mentioned, this is the quiet end of Duval, but that doesn't necessarily mean everyone nearby is quiet. Step onto your balcony, and you might hear cars, loud motorcycles or just drunk party-goers passing by. Close your door though, and that noise is gone. I don't know how they did it, but with all our doors closed, we could barely even hear the construction going on at our pool. Inside the bathroom, however, is a different story. There is a small window that has a privacy guard, weather guard and a screen - but it seems that you couldn't completely seal it shut - so noise always came in through there. Sleep with your bathroom door shut and you'll be fine.

Price here is very reasonable. Staff was very friendly and helpful. As a last bonus, you get free parking  - something that can be hard to find in the area.

I'm not really sure why you would stay anywhere else.

My fiance and I stayed at the southermost hotel for a few days and had a wonderful experience. It's one of the best deals you can get for your $ in Key West.

I looked into a lot of resorts to stay in and they were either too far away from Duval Street or had hidden fees. This hotel is directly on Duval street which made it super convenient that we could walk everywhere for dinner, the bars, or events such as jet skiing that we did. Also no fee for parking, wi fi, or any resort daily fee...most all the other resorts had these fees.

We paid $260 a night for a balcony king size bed room and it was a beautiful room. It was very clean...the hotel does a fabulous job with keeping it updated and worked on.

My favorite part of this hotel was actually the bar by the pool...the Shores Pineapple Bar...for a few different reasons. One being that the bartenders there are excellent. They are so friendly and make you feel right at home. They make fabulous drinks and the chairs are comfortable. I liked this bar alot too because it's nice and quiet. We were there every day and there were only a few people there at a time.

If the beach is more your style do not fear! Their other hotel is right across the street called the southernmost on the beach and you can use everything there too..the beach and the beach cafe. I personally preferred hanging out at the pineapple bar at the southernmost hotel because the beach and cafe at the southermost on the beach was always alot more crowded.

I did not stay here, however for $10, you get admission to the beautiful pool right on the water as well as a complimentary drink ticket.  We took advantage of this 3 days during my stay in Key West.

Our first day Scott was the bartender and we were here for a good 5-6 hours.  It was great.  Cozy, pleasant, not crowded or obnoxious.  Two hammocks sit under palms with the ocean breeze to cool you off.  Scott had played music using Pandora which completely set the mood for this fine day.  Unfortunately, Scott was not around the 2nd and 3rd visits, and neither was the music.  ANY music.  It was actually a huge let down.  The other bartender said it was against the rules for us to donate an iPod/iPhone to play music.  So, that was a bit disappointing.  Had we the music, we would have stayed longer and drank more, and she would have made more money.  Something to think about.  Still, a beautiful spot and seemingly hidden gem of Key West.  Very few tourists here.

Stayed 4 days for Fantasy Fest in the Hotel section. A pool view with balcony newly remodeled.
The room was excellent with nice and functional decor, lots of storage, a fridge and nice if not large bath. The balcony is a little small. Wife loved the bed. Satellite TV was nice once figured out.
You have access to the entire complex and all the pools including the private topless beach which is quite nice for Key West. They also have nice bar areas.
Service and check in were all excellent.
Pricey for Fantasy Fest week, but inline with other properties.
It is at the quiet end of Duval, and there are lots of nearby restaurants. It is a bit of a hike to the other side of town, but they have bikes for rent on site and we rented them for the entire stay and that makes everything a quick and easy bike ride.

We recently stayed here and we were very impressed. The amenities were perfect, the location was terrific, the restaurant convenient. The staff was more than helpful. Our room was a nice size and I enjoyed watching the sunrise from our balcony. My only complaint is the heavy smokers using the adjoining balcony . I look forward to returning soon.

Twice we tried to stay here and twice we had to cancel because of illness.  While we were aware there was a cancellation policy, we were led to believe that we could again schedule our anniversary trip and actually stay here.  Several weeks ago we tried to make reservations for a third time and were told that we could not reschedule and that nearly $500 had been forfeited because we cancelled twice.  We did not find staff understanding or pleasant or willing to change "policy".  They did not return our calls in a timely manner and did not answer their phones when we called (we had been transferred to their extension, so suspect they were in their offices).

We certainly understand policies are required to manage an organization. However, we never felt that anyone cared anything about us as potential guests.  They seemed to only care about following the rules and keeping our initial deposit and the additional fee we were charged on top of that for rescheduling at a different and more expensive date.  We will go to Key West as other establishments are honoring our deposits.  We will not stay here.

Loved this hotel. Staff were incredible and friendly and the rooms were clean and super comfy. The location is at the quiet end of Duval. I recommend renting a bike from the super nice concierge and asking them about activities. They didn't steer us wrong. The only suggestion... Stay as high up ass you can. We were on the bottom floor and it sounds like a herd of elephants above you. Really loud....

Great place to stay but a little pricey, although you are paying for the location, not the room.
The service at the front desk was outstanding and you can't beat the location. Would definitely stay here again.

We stayed 7 days and we did not have one problem. Meh rooms were cleaned, the grounds were neat, the staff were nice and helpful, the bartender had a heavy pour, the guests were adults, the restaurants were nice, can't really think of a thing that we had a problem with. We will definitely stay again. A wonderful stay, which in these days it is uncommon.

The rooms are all recently renovated giving the room a luxurious feel. The rooms weren't all that big, but honestly, when you are in Key West, you shouldn't be in your room often anyways!

Pros:
-empty minibar where you can actually store your own beverages without being charged a small fortune along
-bathrooms and newly renovated showers
-parking
-relaxing pool(s) with bars, free towels, and live music

Cons
-room entrance from the street. I know it's relatively safe in key west, but there is something about having first floor windows opening to the street that makes me slightly nervous
-the bathroom doors - they open in. so when you are in the bathroom you are forced to have the door shut - which for a guy is no big deal - but us women need the bathroom mirror to get ready. And being stuck in a steamy bathroom (post amazing shower) trying to do your hair and makeup is not ideal.

Overall - if you are looking for a resort atmosphere in KW, i highly recommend the Southernmost

This review is for The Southernmost Hotel on the Beach.

I was lucky enough to have my wedding in Key West and Southernmost was our hotel choice for the event. They were very helpful, we recommended that our guests book with this hotel. Southernmost gave the bride and groom a discount depending on how many people booked with them, we ended up getting 25% off our stay. We had the room facing the ocean. It was absolutely beautiful, the room, the view, everything. The bed was facing the doors to the balcony. It didn't hurt that it was the most beautiful weekend, full of bright blue, shiny skies. The light coming into the room made it sunny and bright and beautiful. Our bed was extremely comfortable. The bathroom was also very beautiful. The room was as clean as a whistle. I mean, for me, it couldn't get any better.

The hotel pool was really nice too, our guests enjoyed it A LOT while we were running around the day before the wedding making sure everything was ready.

This hotel is in a great location, right on Duval. You could can reach Mallory Square walking, a nice 30 min. walk. I also had my horrible manicure (from the one of the only nail salon's in KW) fixed by the technicians here. They did a wonderful job. However, it would have been nice for the spa/salon to be slightly bigger.

Great customer service. I just love, love, love this hotel. Can't wait to go back.

We had a very nice stay here at the Southernmost and I'd give it 5 stars if not for the somewhat steep price.  It seems that all accommodations on Key West are pricier than they would be elsewhere, most likely because of the remote location and limited space and options.  In other words, this same hotel in, say, Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, or Naples, would likely not be as pricey.

The room was spacious, very clean, and the bed EXTREMELY comfortable, and the hotel is meticulously well-maintained.  If you're going to stay at a hotel (as opposed to an inn or B&B) on Key West, this is likely your best bet, as it boasts one of the Key's very few actual beaches, and it has several attractive and heated swimming pools, including the quiet Tranquility Pool for adults only and at least two bar-side pools (one with live music adjacent to the beach) in case the beach isn't your thing, and ample parking for registered guests.

The hotel's pier is a perfect place to watch those spectacular Key West sunsets without tourist sailboats blocking your view of the last few moments before the top crest of the sun plunges below the horizon, as they do at the over-crowded tourist trap Mallory Square in town, where you're sure to have at least 3 tourist-toting sailboats cut off those final moments to a booming chorus of boos from disappointed landlocked spectators.

There's also plenty of outdoor lounging space, be it on the very tiny beach, or anywhere on the hotel grounds where you can grab a lounge chair and umbrella.  They were readily available the four days we were there.  Lunch and dinner at the hotel's convenient Beach Cafe, right on the quaint beach, were tasty and filling, though you may have to wait for a table at peak times.

All in all, the Southernmost Hotel is a great place to stay - friendly, informative concierges, too - and offers hard-to-find amenities at a premium, amenities that would be pretty standard practically anywhere other than Key West.

If you have your heart set on Key West and you're looking for a top-notch hotel that you're willing to pay a premium for, this is your place.

We stayed at La Concha for 3 nights and came to the Southernmost Hotel on the 4th night of our trip.  It was love at first site.  The staff where SUPER friendly and accommodating, the free room upgrade was a great bonus.  After a few drinks at the bar we where booking another night because we could not bare the thought of leaving.
The room was HUGE.  Clean, new, modern.  The pools where amazing, the beach although small was awesome because of Fletcher the awesome beach attendant (those guys work for tips so take good care of them).  The food at the beach restaurant is great and the price very reasonable to a hotel restaurant.
Overal it was a great stay and I would never stay anywhere else in Key West.

If you are thinking of vacationing in Key West, this review should give you a quick rundown of why I love the Southernmost Hotel Collection.  We have stayed here for 3 consecutive years.

2011:  I decide to book Southernmost on Duval based on Yelp Reviews for several reasons. # 1 was the price.  This was the less expensive hotel because it was not located on the beach.    Location:  Located on the Southern part of the island, away from the tour ships.   By staying at the street/ Duval location, your room rates will be cheaper but you will still have  access to all the upscale amenities of Southernmost on the Beach.  Southernmost on Duval has a great pool:  The Pineapple Bar, live entertainment daily (every year they have a great Steel Drum/Jamaican guy who we also enjoyed playing live at Blue Heaven).  So if it's your first time to Key West and you are in a little sticker shock over the prices, I highly recommend the Duval location.

2012:  Being the family travel agent, I make an executive decision to upgrade and book Southernmost on the Beach, because, what the hell, you only live once.  Now I don't have to walk across the street anymore.  Slightly nicer pool called:  The Shores Bar with waitress service so you don't have to move a muscle to get your awesome Mojito. Live entertainment/musicians are top caliber. They have lots of fun activities that you can choose to participate in if you like:  My son went to the free paddleboard lessons, my husband went to the Beer School and was Valedrinktorian.  Rooms are nice, everyone is so service oriented and friendly.  Just love it here.

2013:  This year I splurge for an upgraded room at Southernmost on the Beach with a balcony and ocean view.  My mantra is work hard, play hard.  ( room is approx $400/night  but worth every penny).  The grounds are gorgeous.  The room and bathroom are spectacular.  Beds are ultra comfortable.  All and all an outstanding experience. Also: they have an incredible tanning pier that extends out  to the Gulf of Mexico........you can tan in a lounge chair and then walk down the stairs and be 100 feet out in warm, shallow water.  Bring some googles or a mask because the fish are beautiful.

Finally , there are 3 pools at the Southernmost Hotel.  I mentioned The Pineapple and The Shores.  In between both hotels is a "Tranquility Pool"  In 2012 it had a sign that encouraged no yelling or noise at this pool.  So my son decides he wants to check out the pool again this year.  As we enter, I notice there is now a sign that says "Adults only"......and then I see these 2 beautiful topless girls (they looked both real and fabulous....I was jealous) sunbathing  in their lounge chairs.  I turn to my 14 year old son, (who now has a great story to go back and tell his friends at school), and tell him "Go tell Daddy to come check out the tranquility pool."

Amazing. We stayed at the hotel nearest the front entrance. The decor and furniture was so gorgeous and the bathroom was even cooler! Has 3 pools, awesome bars and bartenders at each one, private beach for the hotel guests. Very close to the south end of Duval which made our Fantasy Fest vacation so much more fun and easier. We are definitely keeping this hotel on the list for the next time we come by the Keys for a vacation!

The service here is unbelievable. We can't say enough about bartender, Brookey. Spent time telling us what's great about Key West and what to watch out for. Spoiled us rotten with exceptional service at The Sand Bar. We're from a hospitable state (Texas). He'd fit right in. All are great here. The housekeeper, Benita, just a sweet. Front desk people were so welcoming a nice. They went through the entire sit map with us. They hire right at Southernmost.

I have stayed at many hotels and resorts all over the place and off the top of my head, I'm tempted to say this was the most impressive. At first glance, it's beautiful, but beautiful shouldn't be too hard in paradise. The difference here was the little details. The tanning pier was the most amazing place I've ever laid out in the sun. It was peaceful and never a problem getting a chair. And the stairs leading down to the ocean were so convenient. Staff was so accommodating. One day by the pool a guy walked around with a bucket of ice pops. Those are the kind of things that make the difference. How much do freeze pops cost? 10 cents each? That 10 cent cost to them was worth me taking the time to write this review.  I can't say enough about how amazing this place is. I would 100% recommend this hotel to anyone looking to pay a little extra and feel like it was worth every penny!!

Crystal clear, that is how this review will be.  The location couldn't be better.  The problem was at the front desk, where we encountered an imprecise and slightly impolite receptionist.  He kept referring to our "room type" code for cheapo who used Hotwire.  I am not ashamed of being thrifty, but it was off-putting to have him refer to our "room type" three times during check-in.

The room type that we finally got was a nice room in an older hotel that had been refurbished and branded with the Southernmost Hotel logo.  Clearly, the room type was less stellar than the rooms at the other sections of the Southernmost collection (there are three different sections).

The room was decent.  Plenty of towels, a comfy bed and nice toiletries. The air conditioning unit, however blew...  right into our faces as we slept and had to be covered with one of the towels.  It happened to be Fantasy Fest, so it was very noisy.  Otherwise, the place was just fine.

Amenities:  the three pools were nice.  The fitness center had therabands and TRX equipment, which I really appreciated.  Plus the precor machines were nice.  The private/public beach was quite nice, but also quite a scene.  The front desk re(de?)ceptionist told us that the water at the beach was always crystal clear...  After wading through turgid water speckled with flotsam and jetsam, I am still waiting to see his point.

This was the worst experience of our traveling lives. We thought we were headed to a nice family friendly resort, but what we ended up in was a chaotic dirty experience. We thought from THEIR website that it would be a quiet, family friendly, and a relaxing stay. When we arrived, it was like spring break in Mexico with a bunch college kids. There was a couple half dressed rolling around in the sand. NOT a single place to sit down and relax. Over an hour wait for lunch at the beach restaurant. I will NEVER go back to Key West. BTW, they kept our $500 deposit even though, we left just 2.5 hours after arriving in Key West. We NEVER even saw our room!! Nasty Place for a vacation!

As far as the hotel our stay was for the most part extremely pleasant, my daughter drying her hair at the same time the guest in the next room was doing something at the same time I guess tripped a breaker while I was in the shower and I had to finish showering in the dark maintenance came after they finished in the room next door. The rooms were clean, cool, equipped, (yet needed a microwave) the pool I visited was amazing. 2/3 pools they have happened to be closed during our stay for a photo shoot that I never seen happen in the pool right outside of our room which I could have missed being in the other pool. The Cafe, I will also rate separately but here as well.  The food was awesome. Not sure who is suppose to care for the beach access but they are not doing it at all. There was seaweed everywhere and the smell would about knock you out. It smelled like pure sewage and the water was not crystal clear like I expected, and hated the seaweed being left to rot. They need to be combing the beach daily to clean that mess up.

First time staying in Key West and this was the perfect hotel for my wife and me.  The location is great - on the water and a 5 minute walk to Duval Street.

The hotel has three pools, all of which are nice; two have bars, but the other one also has drink/food service.  The staff was nice enough during check-in, etc.

The room was recently remodeled and offers enough space; the fit and finish was very nice.

I would recommend and stay again.

I originally booked a room at La Mer. As soon as we pulled in we saw that it was a bed and breakfast, which just isn't our style. We're young and stay out late. I would hate it if we ruined someone else's vacation because we were too loud. Wally at the front desk was so pleasant to work with. Upbeat attitude and in general very friendly. He was able to move us to a room within the hotel at no extra charge. It's service like this that will have us staying here every time we visit. There's just no better place to stay! Beautifully updated rooms and very comfortable beds.

Cons: the rooms are almost too comfortable. We found ourselves getting more sleep that we ever thought possible. Very relaxing vacation. :)

Staying here was a last minute option, but I'm totally glad we did. I didn't realize from the website, but the hotel has three different pools, a private beach, a cafe and tons of things to do. They have activities that range from beer school to bingo (most of which are free), and they had great happy hour specials at each of the pool bars. Most importantly, the rooms were spacious and clean. The hotel also had excellent customer service, and will let you store your luggage before and after checkout, which was a huge plus for us since we went there on a boat. We will definitely be returning next time were in the keys.

This hotel was nice, but what i liked most about this place was the service. Such great service, especially after coming from South Beach.  I must mention Terry the concierge. He was the absolute best. On our drive down we called him to get a reservation at a romantic restaurant. He was so excited to help us. He got us the best table right on the water at the best restaurant on the island. The next morning we went to thank him and rent bikes for the day. Again he was so happy and positive he told us all the best places to stop and we had a wonderful time. Thank you Terry!!

We stayed here for 4 nights for our wedding last August and it was a nice hotel with friendly staff and lots of amenities. Another 15 or so of our guests stayed here as well and we all had an enjoyable experience. They weren't able to save us a room block or group rate, but we are still glad we chose the Southernmost Hotel.

It is not exactly what I would call "upscale" and the outdoor/buildings might throw you off as they look a little older but I would describe most of what I saw in Key West the same way. We paid about $200/night and were pleased...there was no way we were paying the $300-500 at fancier places such as the Hilton. The rooms here were clean, spacious, and had a beachy feel. Some family opted to stay at Southernmost on the
Beach which was a bit pricier, and you could tell it was nicer, newer, or both; but we had no complaints about our room. They even upgraded us to a suite when they found out we were getting married.

There are 3 pools and access to a private beach with a beach volleyball court and nearby beach restaurant, which was very good. There were also several fun activities available for guests such as beer school, a newlywed game, and yoga on the beach. The happy hour prices were decent and the service at the pool was top notch.

The day after our wedding, Hurricane Isaac came (HA - true story) and the island was being evacuated so the Southernmost was forced to kick us to the curb for the final night on our reservation, but they refunded us with no hassle. We look forward to coming back for an anniversary trip in the future :)

I'm posting this review in advance in part of a recent discovery in making a reservation. My family and I have stayed at Southernmost on the Beach a couple of times since 2011 and are planning to visit again at the end of July 2014. We have always enjoyed the hotel and amenities. We always request two queens with partial ocean view. I made the reservation earlier this month (June 2014). The woman that spoke to me was very pleasant. Once I gave her the dates of our stay and requested the accommodations, she repeated the stay and cost. It took me a few seconds to respond as I was in disbelief the increase in cost of the nightly stay!

In July of 2012 we paid $998.78 for 4 nights and our stay this year at the end of July 2014 for 5 nights (same type room) will be a total cost of $2018.20. Now what has happened in the last 2 years that could have made these drastic increases in cost? From my findings all three Southernmost properties were sold. The prices were then increased. They also have imposed a somewhat hidden fee. $25 a night charge they say is a resort fee tacked on in addition to the nightly room cost. What an absurd fee. According to the web site the fee includes your access to 3 pools, 2 beaches (one beach to my knowledge is a Public Beach next to the restaurant) with beach chair use, tanning pier, fitness center, 2 pool bars (not open bars you still have to pay for drinks), oceanfront dining (again you have to pay anyway), fitness center, spa (again you have to pay anyway) and concierge services, resort activities, parking (which is not a secured lot), and wi-fi! This is also taxed at Florida & Monroe County which is classified as "Other Taxable Transaction" per room per night at %7.5.
So here's my breakdown of these new nightly rates.
$334.90 Night
+12.5% Florida & Monroe County Accommodation Tax
at $41.86 Night
$376.76 Total Night w/t Tax
$25.00 Per Day Resort Fee
+ 7.5% Florida & Monroe County Other Transaction Tax
at $1.88
$26.88 Total Night w/t Tax
$403.64 Total Per Night
x 5 nights
$2018.20 Grand Total............
I will update this posting pending our visit and experience. We will be open minded in experiencing if there were any changes to the property from both a negative and positive perspective. Stay tuned in August 2014. This may be our last time we will stay at Southernmost due to the high increase in prices. I wish the new owners the best of luck in maintaining customer & resident retention as well as any new resident stays.

++++++++++++UPDATE+++++++++++

So I stayed here for 3 days. The hotel is really nice, there are multiple pools, there is a private beach, it is located at the end of duval st, so the noise of the crowd isn't loud, and the rooms are very comfortable.

The nicest person I met was a security guard named Michael. He gave me a tour of the hotel by walking me around and was very informative. I only wish the people at the front desk were as nice. The woman who checked me in was very rude to my family and kept talking to them in a very condescending manner during the check in process.  If there is a language barrier, there is no need to talk to people like they are dumb. But it was late at night, and I didn't want to make a fuss.

The other bad thing is the wifi. It was very slow in the bedroom.

All in all its not the worst place I've been too. But it is really expensive! I've been to a lot of high end hotels, and this is the first one that I've been to that doesn't have room service. For $300 a night, breakfast in bed is really important!

Feb 5, 2014 Wednesday night
Paid: $336 including tax for king bed, room 284

Pros: most comfy bed I've ever slept in. Nice tv, room was clean and nice. Pools were perfect temperature. Good location. Great shower w seating in shower. Great views from deck.

Cons: their beach is small and a public beach. NO SWIMMING SIGNS. It was dirty, cut my toe and the shore was littered w bottles and seaweed, all which should've been cleaned. Not many television stations. No smoking allowed on the balcony. Not allowed own food or beverages any where poolside or on beach. All pools close at 11pm. No microwave. I walked around the block and a guy on the street said to me "mmm can I get some of that, are you available". That was disturbing and scary. Then I heard gunshots at 3am across the street from the resort and police were there after. We were told that after checkout that all amenities were ours for that day bit they took out entry card which prevented access to bathrooms. The tried to tack on an extra fee for no reason and said it was a mistake but it was stressful and timely getting it removed. Air system was noisy. View of parking lot from balcony

This hotel is absolutely wonderful. I stayed here for a long weekend during the lobster fest. It was a bit pricey but so worth it!!! The hotel was pretty quite and calm. It is very close to The Butterfly museum, Ernest Hemingway, and a little private beach that is not much to write home about. It does great pools one quite pool with a no kids allowed policy. That's awesome!!! In walking distance to anything in town or bike riding distance.

This is a beautiful hotel with the best location! The rooms had a modern-tropical feel and were clean, spacious and comfortable. The grounds on the property were well maintained and even though the hotel sits right on Duvall, we weren't bothered by late night noise. We loved the pool and poolside bar and cafe and that is was just steps from South Beach and Duvall Street. There is a small resort fee but it was well worth it and it covered parking, bottled water, beach towels and lounge chairs at South Beach.

We stayed at the Southermost Hotel for a week.   The room was spotless and was comfortable.  The maid service was very good as was maintenance which came to our room to fix the fan a few minutes after we reported it.

On the positive side the property employs some great singers by the pool.  The pool and bar were fun at night.  However, we felt ripped off by the $25 a night "resort fee".   Yes you get the beach towels and beach chairs included but the public can rent the same beach chair for $10.   I would consider this a very nice beach side hotel but not a resort.  There is not even a hot tub at this "resort".

Most of the staff including people who look like managers walk by and never say hello to their quests.  Nobody knew our names despite staying a week and spending a good deal of money on the property.  Most of the front desk staff were nice but some are unsophisticated and need retraining.  I would probably stay there again but the resort fee may keep me away as a matter of principle.

First off, you will spend money staying here.  So I cannot argue on what was spent. It would be nice if he prices did not rise a lot every single year.

That being said.  This place is the best hotel in Key West.  The rooms, the property and the staff are top notch.

They went above and beyond for my wife and I on our honeymoon.  Everyone was friendly and it was perfect to come back to every night.

The pools and bars are great and the food is made to perfection. And if not, they will fix it.

Great and we will be back for a third time.

Pleasantly surprised.  Our room had been recently renovated.  Very spacious room with two queen beds could easily accommodate 4 people. The bathroom was also generously sized.  There were three pools to choose from; we enjoyed walking down to the beach and pier at the Sand Bar. My only disappointment was that the in room coffee maker made a terrible cup of coffee.

A few girlfriends and I decided to spend a long weekend in Key West and wanted to stay close to Duval but still have a little quiet time to relax around the hotel pool.  Southernmost Hotel turned out to be a perfect place and was able to meet all of our needs. We almost booked online through expedia.com but were able to save over $50 a night by booking directly through the hotel website!

The hotel is right off of Duval and maybe a block or so from the Southern Most Point.  It is at the quieter end of Duval which is really nice.  You are able to rent bikes on-site as well and it was very easy to do and very convenient since biking is the easiest way around the keys.  You can also book several excursions right in the lobby from sunset cruises to diving and snorkeling trips.  They really made it easy for you, all you needed to do was pick what you wanted to do and they set everything up.

The room was newly updated and very nice.  Bed was super comfy and the bathroom was really big!  Perfect for 3 women to have enough room to get ready.  The TV was so nice as well it seemed almost 3D but we only used it a little at night before bed.  There were 3 pools and they were all really nice.  The bartenders were so amazing and friendly.  One bartender remembered me from the day before and made sure the next day the 3 of us never had an empty drink by the pool.  He even made us some amazing shots a few times!  We definitely had a great day hanging by the pool.  On Sunday they also had a woman playing acoustic guitar singing top pop hits and she was really good as well.  It really added to the relaxing vibe of the keys.

Small tip the Adults Only pool is now an all age's pool.  We hoped it was there since it was part of the reason we booked the hotel.  We didn't want to have to worry about screaming kids but the pool by the lobby turned out to be a perfect safe spot for us.  This overall was a great hotel to stay at in the keys.  They had everything including beach access.  I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

Disappointed in the furnishings of the room, bed gave us a back ache, walls so thin you could hear every noise in the hallway, swamp cooler was SO loud, very very small room, overpriced, not a five star experience at all! For example: at 4 pm they had not "refreshed" our room with clean towels and made the bed. The maid in the hall did not speak English so we had to go to the front desk and request this service. The front desk person said "what is it you want"? He acted like I was asking for something special. We complained because our neighbors were partying and very loud. The front desk staff told us it would cost us "significantly more money if we wanted to change rooms." What happened to good old fashioned customer service. I would have thought at this high-end level of resort they would want happy customers. The food at the Pineapple bar was such poor quality it was not edible. Why do they not offer you a menu from the Cafe Restaurant with fresh quality food? One good thing I can say is pools are nice and yoga on the beach awesome! I would not stay here again. I have stayed at Ocean Key and I prefer that hotel over Southernmost.

Great place to stay in key west.. We have visited 5 times previous and this was our most enjoyable. It is close enough to everything that is "happening" and yet far enough away to make you feel secluded. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The only, and i mean only, downside is the room was very small.................but your in Key West, so if you are spending time in your room, your prob pretty lame anyways. That said the bed was comfy and the ac cranked. Pools were perfect, and it was close to the quieter beaches on the island like Smathers.. Hope this works for you

The property was lovely. Stay here for private beach access, activities such as beer tastings, 3 pools, hammocks, and piers that offer a great view of the sunset.

Don't stay here for a nice comfortable room. My room was small and dark.

Stay here for peace and quiet.

Don't stay here if you want access to the party scene; which is on the other side of the island.

This is a great property and has practically everything you need onsite to make your stay in the Keys memorable, the accommodations and amenities are some of the best the island has to offer. I've stayed at a number of properties off of Duval Street and our experience here was definitely impressive. It's a lot quieter on this end of Duval and if your looking for a few days of relaxation this is a great place to find it and still puts you close enough to enjoy the restaurants and bar scene.

Whether you prefer the ocean or a choice of (3) pools there are plenty of options to get wet. Just a short walk to the private beach with chairs and umbrellas for hotel guest and a cafe / bar to keep you hydrated. The room was very clean and spacious with a very comfortable bed, refrigerator, microwave, wall mounted flat screen TV and safe. There is plenty of parking by permit only so it's easy to find a space close to your room. The staff at check in was very friendly and willing to share tons of information, if this is your first visit to Key West they will hook you up.

Directly across the street is a scooter and mini electric car rental store (just beware if you rent a mini car parking on Duval will still be a challenge). We always choose to walk unless we decide to go off of Duval then we take our car. I definitely will stay here again, its really one of the best values in the area if location and quality are important to you.

I just got back from a quick 2 night/3 day stay at the Southernmost on the Beach and thought it was wonderful. Check in was smooth and the front desk staff were friendly and they provided a map of the property and of  Key West. When walking to our room, we were impressed by the grounds, it really is a beautiful place, flowering trees are everywhere, birds were chirping, palm trees swaying in the breeze etc etc. The resort has a nice blend  of quality and casualness to it. Obviously the pricing of the rooms is such that spring breakers etc would choose to stay elsewhere.

The room was very well appointed, it was bright,  the king bed was very comfortable, there was a small sitting area, very large, perhaps 50 inch flat screen TV, large bath and shower, decent quality furniture and room amenities. We had a 2nd floor balcony room and i slept with the balcony door open to let the sounds and fresh air in.

As i mentioned, the grounds are impressive. Bougainvillea, Plumeria, Hibiscus and many other plants were in bloom and the tropical scene was what i was looking for. The sun tan pier that extends into the ocean is a great spot to watch the sunrise, the hammocks along the ocean were a nice addition. I loved the pools, although i only swam in the Beach property pool. There were plenty of lounge chairs and a pool side waitress.

For me, the location was ideal. Yes....we found ourselves walking a fair amount to get the other end of Duval on occasion, but  this wasnt a problem as the walk feels very safe at any time of day and window shopping, picking up a smoothie or a beer en route etc is all good fun. I very much prefer the quieter area around the Southernmost.

Prior to booking at the Southernmost, i had looked at several other hotels on the internet. Once arriving in Key West...and seeing those hotels in person as we were strolling around, made me realize how disappointed i would have been to be staying anywhere else. The hotel is pricey, but i also came to find that property values in Key West are very high. I saw a 500 sq ft condo that was for sale for $525,000. At around $1000 per foot, that pricing is similar to many other high end locations of hotels in major cities.

Ive been disappointed in the past when trying to save a few dollars on vacation and selecting a budget hotel. This was not one of those times. I paid a little more than my ideal target, , but my vacation was that much better because of it.  I cant find anything to complain about, i had a great time and am very happy about returning to the Southernmost again in the future.

So this review covers a Mon-Fri stay at Southernmost from the view of a family with a four year old.  I want to start with the bad because though I feel it should be mentioned I don't want the bad to be the last you read about this place because it is really a nice place/deal.  Housekeeping was a bit of a problem here with our room being skipped completely on two different days, one despite speaking specifically to a cleaning woman who promised a four o'clock visit we made sure to clear out for.  With four people in the room towels subsequently became an issue that was, in their defense, remedied within 30 min of our call to the desk.
Now the good.  Great location, away from the crowded section of Duvall but close enough to walk there.  The length of Duvall street, which cannot be missed, can relatively easily be walked in a short afternoon.  Further, the grounds.  Staying at the Southernmost gets you privledges to the nearby Southernmost on the Beach property which includes the second of three pools between the properties, this one with live music.  For a quieter pool stay in the "Pineapple" on the main grounds or the adults only "Tranquility" pool.  There is also access to a small beach at the adjoining property, it's not a great beach (waterline is a bit rocky and seaweed filled) but it IS a quick way to enjoy the ocean.  Nimerous hammocks, bars, and piers are also accessable from this area.
All things considered this hotel was a great destination for both families and couples (though Key West in general would be probably more thoroughly enjoyed without kids).  One warning, be prepared for the added $10/day parking and $25/day hotel fees.

The room is really nice. The price is high and our view from the balcony is of the hotel roof. Thought for $400 a night I wouldn't be sitting on my balcony looking at a ROOF. Parking isn't bad for another $10 a night. Nice lobby and our check was with
A very nice and knowledgeable clerk. Will write more tomorrow, so far disappointed.

Well Cindy really took care of all our problems. Changed rooms to beautiful room with a nice view. The staff has been great throughout the resort.
