i found this motel online. good deal at $80 per night considering location. this is a budget motel so dont expect fancy towels or anything like that. this is a room, with a decent bed, good a/c and a small fridge. friendly service, free wi-fi.

Tropical hideaway? Probably not. Decent motel? Yes.

I stayed there with my wife and a friend last week. There were only a couple bugs and I didn't get raped once. Not even a little.

I would recommend this place to someone that wants to stay in the old part of Key West and isn't a stuck-up bitch (girl or guy bitches).

Oh, there was also a kitchen in the room and a courtyard for smoking fake Cuban cigars.

This was my first time staying at a motel and we had a great experience! The rooms were clean and comfortable all of us were happy. They have a little table just outside the room and the pool area is nice. The location is great too very close to duval I would recommend this to my friends.

My lady and I headed down to Key West on a whim with no reservations. We showed up to the Spindrift and the guy behind the counter gave us a room for $89/night, which is very reasonable in Key West, even in the offseason.

The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The swimming pool is nice and there are a few chairs set up outside of each room. Free wi-fi.

The best perk is definitely the location. You can walk out of your room and be on the main drag of Duval Street in less than 5 minutes.

This is a place where you get what you pay for - if you are on a budget and looking for a solid spot to crash this is it. I would recommend and will probably be back here next time I'm down in Key West.

I am giving it 5 stars because of what it is in its category, not because its comparable to The Waldolf Astoria.

I relocated to the area temporarily for work, and was placed here by my company until my apartment was ready. I am a hotel snob, when I book a room its Hilton or better. So I was a little annoyed when I saw where the cheap bastards had booked me.

With that being said, my room, room 2, was super clean. Yes, there was one random hair stuck to the sink, but I never saw a bug. The tile floor was mopped and clean.

The best part was the service. I was not going to get there until after 9pm, due to driving from Orlando. The front desk (Chad) called me and made arrangements for me to check in and told me where to park so that I wouldnt get towed, since their lot was probably going to be full.

I, the hotel snob, would stay here again.

2.5 out of 5 - The rooms were big and the beds were big too. They were not that comfortable. The whole place could use some serious renovating, but it is a decent location for tourists and it is budget-friendlier than other hotels. If you're looking for a cheap place to use as home base in key west than this might be your place, but it won't be adding anything to your trip. Pool and parking is a plus.

Stay away from this place at all costs. The money you save will not be worth the experience you have to endure. The room reeked of bug spray but apparently it wasnt enough to killl the DOZENS OF BUGS in the bathroom. The room looked clean at first but we found plenty of hairs scattered about. Oh, and the dried bloodstain in the middle of the bedspread was an added bonus.

When I explained these conditions to the desk clerk he told me "i'm not the owner I'm just a low paid employee. They're tearing this place down in August and, I'm out of a job and a place to live. So I really don't care if you had some bugs in your room."

Hey buddy, so things aren't so great for you  right now. But the reason you're pushing 60 and you're stuck in a dead end job is that your attutude and work ethic suck. and the public will be better off without your "service."

Just a gross, nasty experience from start to finish. Don't say you weren't warned.

My Fiance and I stayed here the week of 7/14/14. We were in room 7. The room was pretty large. It inluded a king size bed, with nightstands on either side. A large dresser with attached mirror. A table with 2 chairs. There was no close so they made one. It was a rod attached the wall on one side and 6 compartment tall shelf. I stored our clothes in there and it worked nicely.

The bed was hard but good enough. I didn't have a problem with it. My fiance wasnt a huge fan though. The bed came with 3 flat pillows. We just folded them over on to themselves to make thicker. The A/C worked very very well and was decently quiet. IT is a window unit. The only window in the room is the one where the A/C so really there isn't much of a window if you desire one.

The reason I didn't give the motel a 5 star is because of the bathroom. The toilet had no lid, so if you drop something in the tiny bathroom, it mind end up in the toilet. I found this strange. The toliet paper roll holder is very sensitive and we made it fall off the wall about 10 times in 4 days. The shower is a bit tight  but doable. There is no shelf in it for shampoo. There is a soap dish however. The water pressure was fine and the height of the shower head was good as well. The sink was a pedestal and every so often it had little tiny bugs running on it. I just smooched them and moved on. I expected this seeing as its Florida and its a cheap motel . This did not bother me.

The front desk was nice enough. It was a very simple check in process and a 10 second check out. The pool was a decent size and no one was barely in it. We went in everyday. It was very hot, but what do you expect when its 100 out and the sun shines directly in it. There was an outdoor shower. There is a chair and table with an ash tray outside your door. You can park your bike, scooter, motorcycle in the court yard which was convenient.

The location was fantastic. One block to Duval, 2 blocks to the ocean. I paid $129 a night. The Wifi was not working when we checked in and I attempted to use it once and it still wasnt working but I didnt care, you dont come here to use the internet. I would stay here  again for sure!

This place had so much potential. And failed so miserably.

I've stayed in inexpensive hotels in high demand locations on several occasions and none have ever been as disappointing as the Spindrift.

The location is perfect, the layout of the rooms around the pool is cozy and charming. What's horrible is the complete lack of service from the front desk and housekeeping and the lack of in room amenities.

The front desk was only manned from 9am to 5pm. What?! Who works those hours? Apparently not even the guy working the desk at Spindrift. We called the front desk at 4:50pm on our last night and he was already gone for the day. So we were forwarded to the sister hotel trying to get some more clean towels since our room hadn't been cleaned during the entirety of our 3 night stay. The guy at the sister hotel told us to call the front desk (ha! So helpful) then directed us to find the housekeeping cart and grab some towels for ourselves.

As we walked out to dinner we passed the cleaning guy. I guess someone told him to stick around and clean our room after all. After a really amazing dinner, we came back to our room to find the trash can was finally emptied and sitting on a night stand, the beds had not been made, and our makeshift second trash can we made for ourselves was still sitting next to the rusting out fridge.

I could go on and on, but I'll stop here and ask you one question: what other hotel have you been to that doesn't have an ice machine?

I can't believe my hole in the wall motel in Key West is being torn down. I am very sad today. This was my retreat, my happy place. I could sit here all day either with family or friends or even by myself and it just felt right. I know I'm being over emotional but this hit me harder than I thought it would. This totally sucks. I know this wasn't the cleanest place, or the best place but it was my place. I only stayed here went I went to KW.
