Overall, I generally liked this hotel.  Every single one of the front desk employees I encountered was friendly and helpful...I wish I would have gotten their names to give them proper kudos.  My room was decent...small and basic but clean and the beds were pretty comfy.  I'm a budget traveler, so I wasn't expecting anything fancy, besides who the heck goes to South Beach to stay in their room anyway?  The continental breakfast was just okay, but it was included in my rate so I won't complain too much about it.  The very best thing about this hotel, is the amazing location...it's smack dab in the middle of all the action on Ocean and the beach is literally right across the street.  Oh yeah, the yummiest Cuban restuarant, Puerto Sagua, is only a block away.  I really wanted to try their seafood restaurant, A Fish Called Avalon, but like I said I 'm a budget traveler so I opted for cheaper eats elsewhere...it sure smelled good when I was passing thru the lobby at night though LOL.  Anyhow, I would have no reservations about staying there again...I'll be going back to Miami around the same time next year.

Location is great. Rooms are tight and not sound proof. Staff are not friendly.  Hotel can really be a great hotel with some improvements and staff changes. Paid 140.00 but won't pay more the 100.00.

This hotel is somewhere you stay to strictly get sleep. nothing grand about it.  The receptionists we talked to throughout our trip were pleasant as was the security guards who were in the front of the hotel throughout the middle of the night.  The hotel website shows you pictures of rooms with different views of the street, beach, ocean, etc. but the first thing i do when i get to a hotel room is throw back the curtains and check my view..... ours was of a wall! like i said, strictly go here to sleep.  the bathrooms were super tiny and i swear i couldve peed on the tiolet while sticking my foot in the bathtub haha.  The walls are paper thin because i could hear my friends laughing and conversating next door while i took a nap. I could also hear when they had their radio on and we didnt. It didnt bother me because they were my friends but that could cause problems for strangers.  the air conditioner is weird.  Everytime it comes on, it sounds like a down pour of rain is coming down outside.  you have to listen for a few minutes to be sure it's just the air and not the weather haha. Overall, its a nice hotel and walking distance from ALOT of stuff. it's directly across from the beach also.  They give complimentary continental breakfast in the morning but we didnt get in before 6am everyday so clearly, we werent up to get it haha.

This was my 5th trip to Miami and 1st time staying at Avalon.  We had an ocean view room, which had the best view of the beach and the activity on Ocean Drive.  The room was nice and clean.  Typical South Beach boutique style.  The staff was very friendly and helpful, especially Anna. We enjoyed the restaurant.  We also enjoyed the fact that the outside of the hotel isn't set up for dinner service until the evening.  That allowed the opportunity for us to sit on the porch during the day, have a drink and people watch.  It was great.  I would definitely stay again!

Just had an overall pleasant experience here.  It's in a great location.  The prices weren't bad at all.  And the staff and all was phenomenal.

There's no specific examples that I have for this.  Other than, every time I had any dealings with anyone working here, from the desk to the cleaning women, I felt appreciated as I hope they did also.

We just stayed here for a night and had a really horrible experience. We originally booked the south seas hotel and we were were called two days before we arrived and told the south seas was sold out but that they would relocate our reservation to their other hotel the Avalon for the same price. We had no choice but to accept because all other good hotels were booked by the time they told us. We had a car which we wanted to valet and after waiting ten minutes for valet to show up outside I went in and asked the front desk for some help and he told me to wait for the valet as they were just busy. After driving around for awhile I finally illegally parked the car and took my luggage out. No one offered to help with the bags although about eight employees watched me struggle with them up all the front stairs. The man at the front desk could not have been more rude.  And the parking? We had to chase the valet man down at the hotel next door (same valet man for ten hotels on the block) and beg him to take the car.  He took his time getting around to it.

When we checked out the next morning, they tried to charge us over $100 more then what we were supposed to pay at the South Seas. We refused, and were told a manager would contact us about it.  While this was going on, I felt something crawling on my foot, looked down, and saw a GIANT cockroach.  It was really the last straw.  Not to mention the hotel desk is their supposed 5 star restaurant "a fish called Avalon"  I'm sure they would lose their stars if the health inspectors knew about the cockroach problem.

The rooms are small and in need of an update. The walls are thin and you can hear music all night along with everyone below and above you.  Yes, location is ideal- right across from the beach and in the center of clubs and shopping and cafes, but do not let that trick you into staying here.

We called and complained and eventually got the manager on the phone and were charged the correct price.  They also did not charge us for the valet after we told them what a nightmare it had been, but I still would never stay in this hotel again.  Go to the Catalina or hotel Victor, they are much nicer for the same price.

I would stay here again if the price is right. The location is 7 and Ocean which is hard to beat....Right behind all the shopping and a $5 cab ride to most clubs except LIV thats about $25 but anywho rooms were clean, maids were quick and you can go to south seas in miami beach eat n chill....the front desk chick was okay but i'll let it slide....Service was better at Clevelander but thats why its a better hotel ;) Rooms could use an update but its not raggedy....but yea great location and just enough if you just need somewhere to put your head at night....

this place was OK. we stayed there 5 days and it was just alright. The staff was very helpful, accomodating and honest. I left my cell phone at the hotel. i was willing to pay shipping for them to send it back to me, but the receptionist was very nice and sent it back to me free of charge.

The actual hotel was pretty small and had a weird smell in the elevator/hallway, but considering we just slept there and were out and about most of the day anyways it really wasn't that big of a deal. the nice staff made up for it :)

I stayed at the Avalon for a week getaway while it was cold in Chicago, so at this point anything that didn't require a jacket was great.  I think the Avalon had a great location but the rooms were a little dated and small. It definitely was a boutique-esque hotel. Compared to some of the other hotels that I've stayed at in SoBe, I suppose it was pretty standard. I'm just glad it wasn't loud like the Clevelander or Catalina Beach Club.

I agree with some of the other Yelpers that this is a hotel that you want to just sleep at. I couldn't imagine having to stay there all day. With that said it is very close to the beach. In fact, it's right across the street. Being located on 7th, it was also very convenient to most of the SoBe restuarants, bars and clubs. Overall we had an enjoyable stay here. If I stay here next time, I'm requesting for an ocean-view room. I'm not sure if it's because we booked through Orbitz but we got a view of the alley.

We stayed here in oct 2013 and enjoyed our stay. If you are looking for a high end hotel this is not it. If you are looking for a nice place that has great rates, a very friendly staff and a free continental breakfast this is the place
Of all the rates I found on the strip this is the best value

Amazing service!! Throughout our entire stay the entire staff was attentive and willing to go the extra mile to provide for their customers from the front desk (Edith was a sweetheart) to room staff. The rooms were a bit small but we had an amazing frontal ocean view and did not mind (it's also a beachfront boutique hotel which is expected going to have smaller sized rooms).

Don't expect a luxurious ritzy hotel, but the room was clean and simple and in working order. The continental breakfast is a plus :) Location is impeccable in hard to beat. Definitely will be back to stay here if we are in Miami beach again.

If you have some money saved up, try the restaurant downstairs. Its amazingly delicious.

I just stayed at this hotel for 3 days and LOVED it. This hotel aims to please. I can't think of one thing to say that isn't good. The service, the rooms, the bar downstairs, the restaurant and the breakfast every morning was delightful! We are already planning another cruise next year and will stay here again :) Thank you Avalon for making my trip even more enjoyable!

I was happy with the Avalon. The price was extremely reasonable for a hotel on Ocean Drive (about $1,500 for four nights in late winter, booked through hotels.com ).

It's not 5-star luxury - don't expect the Delano - but it's perfectly comfortable, quiet and well-maintained. The staff was friendly and housekeeping was diligent in cleaning the room every day. My only complaint is that the rooms were small and somewhat cramped. It was a tight squeeze between the dresser and bed; could hardly swing a dead cat without hitting a wall (probably didn't help that we had three people staying in the room).

The location is perfect. We had a partial ocean view, and it's only a 10-15 minute walk to Lincoln Road. There's a beach entrance right across the street.

There's a restaurant on the ground level, but we did not have any problems with noise on the second floor.  The restaurant also clearly caters to a more adult and professional crowd than other nearby hotel bars and eateries. The hotel provided a complimentary and pleasant continental breakfast.

This hotel is located perfectly on the corner of 7th and Ocean Drive.  The staff is very knowledgable and accommodating.  The elevator wasn't working for most of our stay but the stairs weren't bad.  There is complementary wifi and continental breakfast each morning until 10:30am.  The room comfortably fit four young women for two nights. Excellent hotel and would definitely stay there again!

Nice little hotel. On arrival the hotel looks nice with a classic car parked out the front giving it a bit if a retro theme.
The lobby is small but to the point with the check in desk right in the middle. The dinning room in to the left as you walk in, offering a small but nice continental breakfast which is complimentary to all guest and well worth checking out. We did not eat at the evening restaurant as we found it a little pricy for what it offered, we walked down Collins street which has plenty of places to eat at reasonable costs if you go during their happy hours. Drinks can be nice and cheap during these times.
The room we had was near the back of the hotel but still fairly nice. The bed was comfortable and clean, the bathroom fairly small but functional. They had a safe for use and they offer a fridge but if you are planning on cooling more than a six pack or two don't waste your time as it is very small.
The location is fantastic right across the road from the beach, the hotel will provide beach towels for you, you just need to ask down at the desk and they will provide them for you.
Staff are very helpful and knowledgable of the Miami beach and Miami area do if this is your first visit I would recommend using them for recommendations on where to eat and what to do.
For the price this hotel is well located, maybe a little dated and in need if a renovation but definitely a good place to stay.

I don't think I would want to stay at this hotel again.  It's horrible.  We stayed here overnight because our flight to Costa Rica wasn't until the next morning.

First of all there's a restaurant in the lobby of the hotel called, "A fish Called Avalon".  The restaurant seems like a popular spot, however, the room we got was three or four doors down from this restaurant.  The means and women's public restroom was basically neighbors with our room.  Because of this, the hallway smelled of fish, bathroom, and oldness.

The room was dingy and basic, NOT worth what we paid for the room.  Another negative, when I picked up my luggage the next morning from the floor there was a huge roach on it.  Gross!

DO NOT be fooled by their website.  Their rooms are ABSOLUTLEY NOTHING like the pictures; Far from it.  I would rate the rooms pictured on their website as an 8 or 9, and the actual rooms we got a 4... out of 10.  Find another hotel!

Their complimentary breakfast was decent and customer service was good but I still would not come back here.

I'm from California and took a celebration trip to south beach. We did a "bid" on Priceline.com and this is what we got. And I was a bit nervous about what to expect but do not regret getting this place one bit! Jorge, at the guest service desk was OVER THE TOP of amazing!!! (If you stay here, LISTEN TO HIS ADVICE! we didnt and regret it!) I would definitely give this place 5stars if it wasn't for the power cleaning going on at 230 in the morning in the alley under our window.
The rooms could use a make over but they seem clean
    Bed was comfy
    The view
    Distance to the beach/bars/clubs
    Continental breakfast

    Thin walls, noisey alleys
Valet only (boo) $27 a day
Traffic at certain hours can delay the arrival of your car via valet. (Plan ahead)

I WILL stay here again! But Book through the hotel (not a third party ex Priceline or kayak etc) it would have been cheaper for us. But it was the perfect place and so simple with over the top on customer service! The noisey alley really killed it for us, but the pros out weigh the cons by far!

Stayed here for one night and I'm glad that's all it was!

After getting bumped from the Casanova Suites down the road, this is where we ended up. The lobby is decent enough, spacious and the receptionist was friendly. It was the rooms that were lacking. I could tell they recently updated a few of the items in the room: the TV, lamps, bed headboard, and a couple of the bathroom fixtures. It was the flooring that needed to be redone. The wood was creaky and uneven and there were multiple stains.

The bed was very uncomfortable. I kept wishing for morning to come because I couldn't sleep! Noise from the street didn't really bother me but if you're a light sleeper, bring ear plugs. But, you have to expect it while staying on Ocean Drive.

The breakfast was below par. Some fruit, baked goods, coffee...that's really it. Valet is $27 for the night.

Location is the key to this place, right off of Ocean Dr., less than a minute to walk to the beach. Most of the staff was nice but you just have to continue to remind them a few times about things. The hotel is a little aged, but well maintained, and the rooms are small. But overall, I would come back and stay again.
The only thing that I would complain about is that we stayed for 4 days, 3 nights, and on the last night we were there, housekeeping DID NOT stop by and clean our room and bring us towels. Consuela gets a thumbs down :-(

My wife and I stayed at the Avalon for about 4 nights. This hotel is older but very well taken care of. After walking down the strip of hotels on ocean dr, we realized we had picked the best one. There are too many reasons why but you have to trust me on it. Every hotel here has a restaurant or bar in the front. Beware of all the employees trying to reel you in as you walk by. It becomes very annoying. At the Avalon, there is no bar or restaurant until 6 pm. It is a very classy and candlelight restaurant. They will not stand outside and beg you to come and eat like the other hotels do. The hotel is very nice on the inside with an all white theme. Free wifi all day. Free breakfast in the morning, great channels on the tv, and everything is restocked every morning. The bed is made with new sheets, they bring new towels, new soaps, lotion and you can't forget the k-cup machine. If we come to south beach again, I would pick the Avalon for our stay. We loved it.

Places like the Avalon have an amazing opportunity to be the experience tourist crave when they come to Miami Beach. But sadly its an opportunity lost.

    Let's start with the Pro's
Location, Location Location, great spot nestled along the beach. The walk to the water was about 45 seconds and the concierge was helpful enough to give us some towels as we strolled out the front door. Which leads me to our the service of the concierge which was amazing. So helpful, energetic, courteous and seemed to be someone who really enjoyed their job.

Attempting to use the valet service I would compare to establishing peace talks between Israel and Palestine. Circling the block not once, not twice but three times all resulted in no valet service. We ended up giving up and finding a garage 3 blocks away. If your looking for a place to actually sleep I would suggest staying anywhere but here. The heating and cooling unit (HVAC) turned on and off about every 15 minutes. This would have been fine for me if I were accustomed to sleeping in the same room as a running lawnmower but since I am not it was a real nuisance. If you have plans to sleep past 5 AM I would suggest looking somewhere else. Being that this establishment is on a corner the trash pick occurs right outside your window. If your not awake from the HVAC unit, a two ton garbage truck this will certainly do the trick.

Conclusion-  Unless you sleep like a hibernating grizzly or plan on falling into a coma while staying at the Avalon I would suggest looking elsewhere. If you do end up staying, bask in the service of the front desk and ask for earplugs.

Great location close to everything and across from the beach. Staff was the best, so caring and helpful...very accommodating! The rooms and halls are outdated and a little musty, but we only had the room for sleeping because we were always out and about, and the beds were clean and comfortable so it was okay.

Roaches. Roaches. Roaches. One the first night, two the second, and about 5 the third. Plus little crawly critters in the bathroom at all times. Rooms are small and bare bones - not as pictured on website. Staff was nice, but roaches are inexcusable.

    Love, love, loved it here!

Let's start with the location, right on Ocean DR, in the midst of all the restaurants, bars, stores and across the street from the beach! It's a great location we didn't have to take a single cab to get anywhere expect the airport.

The staff was amazing! So friendly and helpful. We arrived on a Saturday around 11 and they let us check in early. The gentlemen in the front (wish I remembered his name) was so hospitable. Gave us recommendations to things in the area, always greeted us with a smile and remembered who we were.

First day, we did have a toilet over flow.... I called the front desk literally in a the matter of a minute, we had three crew members in our room resolving the issue. Take about customer service!

They also have a guest computer room to print out boarding passes or just go online or whatever you need.

The rooms were small! We stayed in the oceanfront room, four girls and it was tight with our luggage and all. Barely any space to move around but we weren't in the room long enough to care. The downside to the oceanfront rooms is that you are facing ocean drive... Loud music, loud people, you hear it all. No afternoon naps over here.

They also provide continental breakfast to all guests. Bagels, croissants, toast, boiled eggs, fruit, yogurt, etc. huge plus!

I would stay here in a heartbeat. Great location, amazing staff, and feet away from the ocean.

This review is to thank George for his great customer service on the one phone call and simple request of a simple pastry and note to be placed prior to my daughter check in on 3/12/2015, George with NO hesitation said YES!!! and asked that I contact him to confirm my request was taken care of.

I am one where "Customer Service" speaks for itself and when you receive that at any place, that is the place where I want to return.

George!!! THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!!!

    YOU ROCK!!!
