Just spent 5 nights at Hotel Ocean and had a great time. Location is great for going out at night, heading to the beach and hitting restaurants. They even have chairs and towels for the beach! Rooms are clean and well kept overall. Shower leaves a little to be desired but works. There us a band that plays in the courtyard at night but they are done before midnight. Then again - why would you go to bed before midnight anyway!
Will stay again when I am in the area.

this was the absolute worst hotel experience of my life!

1) rooms have mold in them! beware, the bathrooms are filled with mold in the shower. the air conditioning vents are also filled with mold. the rooms stick of musty mold!

2)no room service!!!! the maids will either not clean your room / change sheets at all or only after 3pm.

3)windows in hotel rooms are off the hinges with no screens. bugs, flies, mosquitos flying around room.

4) leaky windows, rain comes in.

5) 100% filthy

6) noise level is off the charts!!!! live band playing everyday  until 11pm. so loud you feel like the band is in your room with you!

7) free breakfast is served from a musty smelled moldy room. stale bagels and muffins.

8) roaches

9) windows have an inch of dirt on them

do yourself a favor and don't go near this place!!!!!

This hotel is horrible. The pictures on the website are for the penthouse room (only 1). I had a jr suite with an ocean view. The view was blocked by construction. Upon entering the room, I thought I had entered a junk yard. The linens on the bed were brown (yes, they were supposed to be white); the mattress was sliding off the box spring which was also brown and torn. The floor was dirty, the towels looked as if someone used them and hung them back up. This hotel has a no refund policy which apparently hotels.com is unaware of; so if you check in, go view the room, are dissatisfied and call hotels.com and if the agent advises you to check out first, DON'T!!! You will still be charged for all of the nights that you booked. This place is horrible and should be torn down. Let's not even begin to talk about the hotel management. RUDE is an understatement. Very, VERY UNPROFESSIONAL!!!!!!!!!!! Needless to say, I didn't stay in this pig sty and had to spend more money to get a room at another hotel. That was $465 lost!!!!

I fell in love with this place. Discrete non ostentatious, off the street primo location- the staff is very nice as well. Stay here PLEASE.

Also they do provide beach chairs and beach towels.
Note of caution - just don't eat at the restaurant downstairs! It's a tourist trap, among several others on this street. You have been warned.

I was not impressed with this hotel for a number of reasons.

My husband's 30th birthday was this weekend, so we decided to split the penthouse cost ($530 after tax for one night) with 5 of our friends. The website said it slept 6 with two day beds and one king, and we figured we could have the one extra person on a couch, because well, it's a penthouse, so I'm sure it has at least one couch, right?

We arrive and find one king and four cot beds which don't even have bed skirts on them to cover the dirty and stained box springs.

I wanted to head down to the "pool" advertised on the website, and when we called the front desk, they rudely told us "No pool. The ocean is right across the street."

I also wanted to make a bean dip for everyone to snack on before going to the bar, but forgot my can opener. When I called down to the front desk to see if they might have one, they (again rudely) told me, "Your friend already asked us, we don't have one. You could come down to the restaurant and ask if want." I'm sorry, but if I'm paying $530 for one night at your hotel, you should go do that for me. With a smile on your face.

Lastly, the "city view" is of an alley and dirty rooftops. The ocean view was the only decent thing about this room.

Won't be staying here again, that's a promise.

Unimaginative name aside, this hotel wasn't that bad. Proceed with this review knowing that this is more of a three-and-a-half and not three star rating. Here's why.

First, the good:
- Location, location, location! It's right on Ocean Drive a couple blocks down from the club scene but still right in the middle of everything. The beach is across the street (Hence, the name?) and, as another reviewer noted, there are beach towels and chairs available. Bonus point: Starbucks is a five minute walk away.
- Price. My friends and I booked four nights in a two bedroom suite in July for under $1000.
- Friendly staff. The front desk was mostly run by people in their 20's, but for the most part they were helpful and knowledgeable of the area.

The bad?
- Location! [Yea, yea, contradicts the above. Read on...] Every night there is a performance downstairs with LOUD live music and dancing. It wouldn't have been too bad if the rooms were more soundproofed.
- Be weary of the alley behind the hotel. Now, this isn't really the hotel's fault, but that little strip smells putrid. Imagine: garbage, human waste, food scraps, and other mystery scents heated to a toasty and humid 95 degrees.
- Paltry supplies in the rooms. For a two bedroom suite, I found that the towel, toilet paper and tissue situation were lacking. Calls for extra seemed to be left unnoticed (though eventually the stuff was delivered).
- It may just be a characteristic of the room I was in, but there was no TV in the living room, but one in each bedroom. Bad idea for groups sharing rooms where half wants to sleep and half wants to watch a "Jersey Shore" marathon. :(

Wasn't bad, wasn't outstanding, but I wouldn't mind staying here again if the price were right.

So I lucked out and somehow ended up with a 2-day work trip to Miami. Since the meeting itself was fairly short (2-hours), I thought I might as well bring my puppy with me and enjoy the beach.

I found this hotel completely by accident while searching for pet-friendly hotels in the area. Their website looked clean, the rooms looked enormous, and the rates weren't too bad for being on Ocean Drive, right across the street from South Beach.

When I arrived, I was pleasantly surprised that the rooms ARE humongous and completely renovated just like they looked on the website. My "Ocean View" room, which meant that it was facing the cafe downstairs but you could still catch a view of the ocean if you looked out the window at the right angle, had all hardwood floors, huge king size bed, a shower separate from the full bath, a living room, 2 flat-screen tv's, and an actual bar area that could seat 4!

For $150 after tax on a Monday night, this has to be the best hotel deal I have found yet from all my travels. As an added bonus, my 3lb puppy sat quietly in my purse when I checked in and was really well-behaved the entire time so front desk didn't even know I had a pet with me! This saved me $55/night, which I thought was fair because Yorkies don't shed or smell and she is completely potty trained to go on the puppy pad I put in the bathroom...I later snuck her on to her first beach experience, where she proceeded to dig a hole in my shadow to hide from the heat, lol.

I just came back from South Beach and stayed here. I must admit I wasn't impressed with the ocean view suite (our view was the courtyard of the hotel) our shower caddy was filthy and the shower seemed to have mold in the corners. The furniture wasn't that great either it looked like it was purchased at Ikea.

The only reason I'm giving it a 4 star rating is the staff was extremely helpful and nice, the location of the hotel was perfect. right in the middle of everything within walking distance.

The hotel bar was great, both Bruno and Mario were amazing. I dislike fruity drinks and they both created drinks to suit my taste buds. Mario makes a delicious blackberry martini while Bruno makes an outstanding Pomegranate martini. You need to try both.

overall it was ok and I would stay here again.

Booked a regular suite and were upgraded to the penthouse . The penthouse itself was ok  . But Beautiful view.  Absolutely loved it . Excellent location, right in the middle of the strip. Very nice restaurant attached  to the hotel which has live music. Good food. Can get loud in the room at night.... But then you re not supposed to be holed  up in the room !!
Absolutely loved the place. Will return in the future to this place !!

We should have known this was going to be bad when we got to the hotel about an hour before check-in and told us the room wasn't ready (mind you we called at 10am and they said to come in any time since the room wasn't ready).

We should have known this was going to be bad when we walked up to the hotel and smelled sewage.

We should have known it was going to be bad when we had to leave our belongings in the lobby since the front desk clerk guaranteed it's safety and in the next breath, talks about two bikes being stolen from them.

We should have known it was going to be bad when we get to the room and saw the stains on the box springs since there were no bed skirts.

We should have known it was going to be bad when we walk around in bare feet and end up with black soles for the rest of the night.

And we definitely knew it was bad when everytime we called the front desk, we were hesitant to because we didn't know what the douchey clerk was going to bark at us.

The only upside to this place is if you stay on a Saturday night, you get to hear live Spanish music and watch flamenco dancers (if your view isn't of dirty Miami rooftops).

Otherwise, stay away.

The hotel is undergoing renovations...however room 304 has severe structural damage. The entire room is slated towards the center of the floor. Bathroom door slid open while using the toilet and partner was sitting on the edge of bed...weird moment. No toilet paper or holder...I had them install a holder and bring up tissue before I went back in the room. However, for $219.00 per night in South Beach...what can one expect? A structurally sound room! The breakfast was great and so were bar drinks...nice and stiff because you'll need it after you see room 304! I would stay again as I was able to see other rooms and they looked decent. However, I would not stay in room 304 again and would preface that in my reservation. The did knock off the $15 per night resort fee. On a brighter note... the beach bikes are new as well as the beach towels and chairs which were included in the resort fee. Room 304 needs to be looked at by an engineer...seriously... even the hall leans, at some point this will need to be addressed. If that building had been in California it would have been closed down. Lastly, I dare management to dispute this review as I took pictures and my review is quite becoming considering the detailed photos. They need to be up-front about the condition of the 3rd floor across for the check-in desk as they have two towers.

Stayed at Hotel Ocean from March 28-March 30 and we absolutely loved it. We had a renovated room with an Ocean View. Everything was recently renovated. The room had a king size bed, 8 drawer dresser, safe, fridge, huge desk we used to put on our makeup, closet, large bathroom with a Jacuzzi tub and stand alone shower. We were there for Miami Music Week and even with it being a busy weekend the noise levels didn't really bother us. Just a warning they do have live music downstairs which starts at about 4 or 5 which prevents afternoon naps. Also a light music is put on in the morning but nothing that bothered us. They offer a great free continental breakfast for hotel guests. Eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes, cereal, yogurt, fresh fruit, coffee, juice, and ice cold water. Also free cookies, water, juice, and coffee is offered all day long in the lobby. They offer bikes, beach towels, and chairs for the hotel guests as well. The staff was very friendly and helpful upon check in and check out. They also held our bags for us as we weren't leaving South Beach until 5pm and check out was 12pm. Overall we loved Hotel Ocean and will return.

I. LOVE. THIS. HOTEL!!! Ellie(sp??) was probably the most amazing customer service representative that I have ever had the pleasure of working with to plan a hotel stay. We started off rocky as she accidentally hung up on me due to the "busy" ness of the hotel but called me right back and promised me the time of our lives if we stayed in her hotel. Well, we were not disappointed. Our hotel room had recently been renovated and it was GORGE!! We over looked the spirited walkway of Ocean Dr and were right above the plaza where the best Gypsy Kings impersonator was playing his guitar. The central location of the hotel made it super easy to access from everywhere that we went in Miami. We didn't eat there as we actually travelled into Miami proper such as the Bay and LIttle Havana. Both were a short drive from the hotel, as was North Beach, although you need to have a little more time on your hands to actually make this trip and we only had a few hours. Oh did I mention the free towels, beach chairs, cookies, juice, coffee and BIKES!!! Yes, we went bikeriding and it was awesome!! Janina(sp?) was super awesome as well as she let us change in her office as we got there so early!! There was a jacuzzi in the room although we didn't have time to utilize it and honestly, the ocean was outside so we were ok. All in all, I've been to Miami 4 times and by far this was my best trip. Maybe it was because of my boo, but maybe it was the great service at this hotel too!!!

Great location, Clean rooms, kind of small but it gives it more the south beach feel. We got there very early and they got us in our room right away and they were able to give us an upgrade. I will def be returning and recommending to others.

We stayed this past weekend after purchasing a groupon but then upgraded to the penthouse for my husband's bday. We got to the hotel 30mins before check in & the cleaning lady had not even started our room cause she thought it would be easier to wait for the linens that were late. NOPE!!  We finally got into our room around 5pm. The only positive thing is the girl Mercedes who worked the front desk alway had a smile on her face & was a joy to work with. When we finally got into our room the room was not that clean that it should have taken an Hour to clean. But the room was beautiful & so were the views. Made the wait slightly worth wild!  The shower door had no wheels & one of the cords on one of the shades broke but nothing that impacted our stay. The hotel had good music at nice(except they need a new singer,  she really wasnt in tune) Got a nice hot breakfast the next morning,  even at 1030a. But would definitely stay again!!

We loved it here. They have large and spacious art deco rooms, with huge balconies with fantastic views of the ocean. They have complementary bikes for use, folding chairs, and towels and 24 hour snacks and beverage.

The staff is amazing,  especially Janina, who"s from Berlin.  Everyone was beyond helpful.  They even carried our bags for us to the bus stop.

I really can't say enough positive things about the accommodations and staff. In the room we also had a huge tub and a separate shower. Classic art deco beauty.

Wondering about the pool? They have a deal with breakwater hotel and we got to use it. The pool is open from dusk to dawn.

This hotel is central to everything.  It made our stay that much more amazing!

Good location if you want to be in the heart of the buzz of Ocean Drive. What I liked about the location was the hotel itself is set back from the curb so the noise you'd typically get from a hotel on Ocean Drive was decreased.

Can't ask for much when staying in South Beach. Most of these art deco hotels have small rooms; you're paying the most for the location.

Surprisingly, the room was quite large and so was the bathroom, definitely bigger than the other hotels I've gotten in the same area - Chesterfield, King & Grove, Blue Moon. The room was perfectly clean, too.

Front desk staff was friendly. We arrived early and the room wasn't ready so we left our bags in their back office and went to eat. Lots of complimentary amenities that we didn't get to experience, but nice to have that option.

For the right price (~$200), I wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

The front desk lady wrote my room number so poorly I went to the wrong room and waited an hour for it to be cleaned. Then I found the right room and saw the wrong baggage in there. They didn't check the bag tickets properly and gave me someone else's stuff. Be warned, don't leave valuables in their hands as they could wind up with someone else. Also the lady was rude and ignored me at the desk to have several long conversations in Spanish with staff that came in and out while I waited to check in. There was little acknowledgement. Only thing she did nice was get me in a little earlier than normal 4pm check in. Still she seemed more worried about getting in trouble with her supervisor then taking good care of me.  She didn't apologize for the poor writing or sending me someone else's baggage. Instead she was argumentative and posted the blame on me.

This hotel is at a great location, right on ocean drive, across the street from the beach. It has some nice amenities like free wifi, beach towels and beach chairs, as well as bikes that you can check out for 2 hours at a time.

They have free breakfast, but the food doesn't look appetizing and the serving dishes look dirty ...which leads me into the negatives about this hotel. Although the room is nice and modern, it seems dirty. The cleaning staff doesn't do a good job cleaning and one of our un-used towels had a stain on it. Cleanliness is key in hotels and this one is not clean.

Bring your party attitude.  There's loud music in the courtyard at night.  If your room faces the courtyard (about half the rooms do) you don't have to go downstairs, the music will blasting thru the walls into your room.
Don't expect to sleep until about 1:30am when the place finally clears out.
When I expressed my dissatisfaction that I was put in a room so close to the noise without the staff indicating anything about it, I was told that I should have read the reviews on the internet.
So I will make it my personal mission to make sure anyone who reads a review about this place on ANY site that, it is clear;  IT'S A NOISY HOTEL.

Last minute booking on Ocean Drive - Yes Please!

My husband and I had initially decided to visit Orlando but decided to skip for more fun in Miami. We arrived in Miami around 8pm and I booked this hotel from my phone as we were driving to Miami from West Palm Beach - and it was a fantastic choice. This hotel is pet friend and is directly across the street from "South Beach". Hotel Ocean has a beautiful "patio", a fantastic Italian restaurant out front, and offers bike rentals, orange juice and cookies. Our room was on the third floor and we could see the ocean from the window. The bathroom was gorgeous with a frame-less shower and a large shower head, it great to unwind after a long day of shopping and hanging out on the beach. The hotel even let us use our hookah out on their patio.

I absolutely adore the hotel and staff!
