Hotel St. Augustine is terrific.  The rooms are nice sized, well decorated and comfortable.  The bathrooms are amazing, with the showers being the highlight; side jet showers and sauna with ample space for all your showering needs.  It's nicely located close, but not too close to Ocean Drive (2 short blocks and you're on the beach, but it's still pretty quiet).  And the staff is fantastic and Bailey the dog is a comforting plus.  I'll definitely go back.

Hotel St. Augustine is in a good location, close to south beach.  The lobby of the hotel is beautiful as well.  However, the customer service is by far the worst I have ever experienced.  The hotel staff was not knowledgeable about hotel policy nor was customer service a priority here.  We printed out a hotel confirmation and still ended up paying an extra $40 a night.  The hotel staff was also very argumentative.  We had to go downstairs to pick up towels when we needed them, the hotel does not have an elevator so we wheeled our luggage up two sets of stairs.   Items that were shown in pictures online, were not in the hotel room.   Overall, our experience was terrible.

The dogs are so cute here.  They have great service and went above and beyond to let me know my rental car ligths were on.  It's no Deleno but for a girl that pays her own bills, doens't have a trust fund or some db man or husband to deal with it works out ok :)

We recently stayed at Hotel St. Augustine because we were attending a wedding at the near by Fisher Island.  At first I was disappointed that the Island hotels were too expensive for me but I ended up being happy that I stayed on the mainland.

The hotel is right in Miami Beach.  You can walk to everything.  Beach is one or two blocks over.  We aren't beach people so we didn't experience that.  It's a boutique hotel, cute and updated.  They have steam showers in every room and we loved that!  The rooms are nice, clean and have. contempory decor.  The TV was older but didn't really matter as we didn't watch it much...to much to do!  They have a continetal breakfast everyday which was nice.  Fresh bakery items.  It's in the "bar area" but I don't think they use it for a bar anymore although I didn't ask.  They have off street parking but was VERY full and hard to get out/in of.  You have to leave your keys with the desk incase they need to move your car to fit others in but I think this is typical for hotels like this.  Just didn't really like that but better than street.  We didn't have a problem with noise at all which some of the other reviews say...not sure why, we were there on the weekend.

The one thing that I didn't like about the hotel that there were a couple of front staffers that weren't nice at all.  I felt like an outcast in someone's home.  Hated to ask for things like extra towels etc which shouldn't be a big deal.  We hated to go down to the lobby (which is small b/c of the size of hotel) because we just got a look and ignored.  We could have used some suggestions on where to eat etc but didn't want to "bother" them.  The lady during the day who checked us in was nice though.

The price was great and I would most likely stay there again if I could get the same rate.  Like I said, the most disappointing thing was the staff and would be one reason we wouldn't go back.

You have to love a place that has a dog in the lobby. Bailey is old but  has lots of  energy to follow the owner around looking for a treat
This hotel was a nice surprise. Rate was reasonable. I had absolutely no problem with the desk staff. Ricardo went above and beyond helping me book excursions and he was friendly.
I have to agree that the walls are thin and I was awakened by people partying. There was some odour in the hall but I think its just an older place.
Having a steam room in the room was a definite bonus...so relaxing. Beautiful shower area with extra jets on the walls all working well.
Breakfast bar in the lobby a very nice touch. Cereal, oatmeal, juice, coffee, yogurt, and pastries. Very cozy and easy to talk with others about their adventures.
I will definitely return to this fabulous hotel that is in close proximity to all the action

Noisy noisy noisy. Don't expect to sleep well here. Between the paper thin walls, the loud plumbing, the early yappy cleaning staff, and the freezing screaming  AC, I spent three nights with earplugs and no rest. Spend more and go to a real hotel with walls and sound insulation. Also, the famous showers are OK but there was no water pressure for the side jets to run and there was only one setting for the main shower: hot. Perhaps to complement and compensate the AC. I was not happy with my hotel choice. At least the location was OK and close to the beach.

We ended up staying here after my friend and I were tired of the hostel we were staying in, lol. Had one night here, and it was great.

We loved the lobby and the dog that hung out there! So cute. The breakfast was good but a tad limited. The room itself was beautiful and very 'expensive looking' for what I was paying, which wasn't too much. It is made for couples really though, since the shower is right out in the open, but my friend and I just hid off to one side when the other had to shower :) Loved this place!

Stayed here for thanksgiving week.  Overall a good hotel.  We booked on Expedia for $85 per night.  Close to most everything in south beach and the 25 cent bus picks up right outside.  The room was small but nice and the shower was great.  The continental breakfast had cereal, milk, juice, coffee.  Good enough for me and the pastries were tasty.
I read the previous reviews so was expecting terrible service but didn't...had friendly front desk staff that helped us with a map and recommendations for restaurants.  I would stay here again...the only downside was the walls were a little thin but not horrible.

For what we paid (I think $59), it was not bad at all.  I think every meal we had cost more than one night here.

The shower was amazing.  I would come back just for this feature.  Still, you need to be very comfortable with your roommate since everything in the "bathroom" except for the toilet is out in the open.

Location was convenient and we didn't hear T-Pain blasting until 4 am.  The bar was closed the entire time we were there though.

This hotel was amazing and I would recommend it to anyone. It is a great choice for someone looking to be close to everything-- but not too close. It is about a 3 minute walk to the beach and surrounded by some great restaurants, Walgreens/CVS, and nice stores like Victoria's Secret, ZARA, Tommy Hilfiger, etc.

Not only is the location great, but the rooms are clean, beautifully kept, and the shower is amazing. The hotel manager is so accommodating, and the continental breakfast is perfect.

For its location, great staff, and beautiful rooms, this place is definitely worth 5 stars!

Great location and funky rooms. The walks were a little thin, so we heard the partying crowd well into the morning. But that's expected I guess in South Beach. The shower is way cool - four heads and it doubles as a steam room. Breakfast was eh. Cereal and pastries, juice, milk and coffee. easy to get anywhere though - great location and with of the beaten path to be relatively quiet (except for the partying Russians in the room next door)

My fiancé and I stayed at the Hotel St. Augustine one Saturday night in May.  Other reviews do a good job describing the place, but here are the highlights and lowlights from our experience:

    Highlights:
-AMAZING steam bath (think personal Turkish bath/Hammam sized for two).  The steam bath also doubles as a wonderful shower with four nozzles and plenty of hot water. Definitely the highlight of the hotel.  I've been lucky enough to stay in a number of luxury hotels and never found a shower or in-room steam bath like this.
-Free breakfast: it wasn't luxurious, but the hotel provides plenty of fresh, delicious pastries (croissants, danishes, stuff like that) as well as OJ, Coffee, and cold cereals with milk.  No hot food, but plenty to eat to give you fuel until lunch.
-Free beach towels and umbrella (the hotel will provide you with these)
-Free parking right next to the hotel (I think--this may have been included in our Groupon deal, though, so you might want to check this).
-Location--at the quieter end of South Beach (so there's less noise--we stayed on the street side on Saturday night and didn't hear much) but also walking distance from the big clubs if you want to party.
-Room: spacious, plenty of room for two people to spread out.
-Staff: We found every one of the hotel front desk staff to be very friendly, professional, and helpful.  All their recommendations for restaurants and other advice was spot on (and sometimes more helpful than sites like TripAdvisor and Yelp!).
-Size: This is not a huge resort--it's a small hotel with maybe 10-15 rooms.  Was therefore much quieter and less corporate feeling than the big hotels. Most of the guests appeared to be couples without kids.

    Lowlights:
-Facility Maintenance: from the slightly dirty white walls in the room, to finding small paint chips on the carpet, to the holes in the window screen to the toilet paper holder that was falling off the wall, there were signs everywhere that the hotel was somewhat lacking in care and maintenance.  It's really too bad, because the hotel could be almost luxurious with just a few alterations/updates to room décor and maintenance.  Lights could be a bit brighter in the rooms as well.  I'm not sure if this was intentional or simply another manifestation of poor maintenance (i.e., failure to replace light bulbs).
-Location--a couple blocks from the beach.  Really not a huge deal if you're ok with carrying some beach stuff for what is maybe a 5 minute walk, but if you want to be RIGHT on the beach then you should go pay more for somewhere a block or two closer.  On the plus side, there is a CVS and Walgreens (with liquor store) both a block or two away.
-Price: We were able to stay at the hotel for ~150 through a Groupon.  For that price, it was about right in terms of pricing.  But I'm not sure it would have been worth it if we had paid the advertised price of around $250 or so.  I get that South Beach is expensive, but this nice but not-luxurious hotel is not worth spending that much money.

Bottom line: hotel's in a good location, has some wonderful amenities to recommend it, but could really benefit from a lot more TLC from its engineering/housekeeping/maintenance department.

Love the steam showers! It's the perfect ending after a day at the beach and running all over Miami. Our rooms were comfortable and clean, the toiletries are actually of good quality and the staff are super nice!

Their unofficial mascot Bailey is so cute! He's a cuddly, chubby ol' chocolate lab and he's a great addition to the staff :) The staff was very knowledgeable and helpful and always friendly. There was one super cute guy who recommended all our night time outtings for us. Wish I knew his name!

It's a short distance from the beach, only 2 blocks and there's plenty of restaurants and tiny markets for all your food needs. Shopping is close as well, cabs are everywhere so it's easy to get around.

If you are a group of Asian women, you will be very popular and experience a lot of harassment, bike revs, car revs, "oooooo!!!! chinas!!!!!! HOLA!!!"s, attempted kidnappings, and drinks!

I'd definitely stay here again next time I'm in Miami!

    The kinkiest hotel ever!

Boy, talk about hardcore. This hotel has one of the kinkiest layouts I've ever seen. And that includes the Radisson Hotel in Orlando that has a jacuzzi next to the king size bed.

The rooms are very wide and spacious, there's a glass door leading directly to a private shower/sauna that is also very spacious, a bit too spacious for just one person, or even two ... There's a cupboard with a selection of beauty and higiene products (sort of a spa minibar). There's a well stocked regular mini bar with reasonable prices. Everything is always pristine and the decor is tastefull except for the main hallway (first floor) that lacks any.

Another thing I appreciate about this hotel is the small car park on the back (self-parking), quite practical.

The staff isn't particularly friendly and that's probably the least appealing characteristic of this hotel.

Anyhow, I suspect members of the swinger community are sure to find this hotel interesting.

Hard to beat the price for the location. South of Fifth Street (SoFi) is a nice quiet part of South Beach to be staying in. One downside to this is 5th street can be a pain to cross since it is very busy and the pedestrian walk signal comes on very infrequently.

On the positive side the restaurants near the hotel are not like the ones on Ocean Drive where they almost chloroform you and drag you into their restaurant. They are not aggressive at all and seem nice.

The room is very basic as others have said. The bed is pretty hard but I slept fine on it. They only gave us two pillows plus one extra one in the closet. Hardly any towels as well. The best part about the room is the shower definitely. A good shower is so important in the beach since you will probably be showering often to wash off the sand and sea salt after swimming. The bathroom has a fan which is nice. You'd think that is a given but I've been in so many hotel rooms that did not have bathroom fans. One amazing feature is the shower has MUSIC inside it. Turn on your radio and then walk into the shower and you'll hear the music. Really fun little element!

Word of caution, it has no elevators so you have to haul your luggage up the stairs.

The lobby is very very pretty and the bar area where they serve the breakfast is also pretty. The breakfast was VERY basic. Cereal, some bagels, orange juice (but be warned this is some crappy OJ, go get some fresh-squeezed Florida OJ just about anywhere else), watery coffee. But hey it's free.

The service is excellent and friendly. Generally this is a very good value, you get a lot for your money and are so close to everything. I did not experience the loud air conditioning problems others complained about, and I enjoyed the view out my window.

This place is great for what it is, a boutique hotel on south beach.  Got an ideeli coupon to stay here for a stay-cation anniversary.  The room was a decent size and the hotel had a good number of guests.  Located conveniently on Washington allows for you to get anywhere easy and fast on the beach.

The shower, WOW. It turns into a steam room while the water is on and has a bench inside.  We sat inside with the steam and just cracked the windows that were also in the shower for a bit of cooler air and it was just an awesome experience.

Missed the continental breakfast but from the looks of it, nothing was left. The parking situation is weird being in the dirt lot and limited.

The room was very clean and the design modern.

Had a family vacation recently and stayed at this hotel and I can't complain.  The room was decent and clean but the comforter looked old.  The bathroom was a big plus! because of the shower.  The bathroom was huge and had lots of space but I didn't use the steamer because Miami is too hot for me.  The room was pretty small and didn't have any drawers?  Hmmm?  Also, there was free breakfast every morning such as pastries, coffee, cereal, and juice.  You must be there early to get some of the pastries cause it'll run out fast.  The pastries were good and everything else was ok.  At least it's there for you in the morning.  The air-conditioning in the room was pretty noisy for one night!  The other nights were just fine but ruined my sleep for that one day.  That was weird.  The desk also gives you towels for the beach which was two blocks away.  The location is great because you are faraway from the crowd and the noise but close enough to walk to the beach and the restaurants.  We took the bus a couple of times to go down to Lincoln Rd. and further down in Washington to visit touristy stores and shop.  The bus stop is right in front of the hotel which was great.  We had a rental for just a day because the parking fees everywhere was crazy!!! Plus, it's pretty hard to find parking.

Anyway, you get what you pay for and it was decent enough.  I would've given 3 stars but the manager, Michael, was extremely helpful in showing us and telling us where to visit since we were first timers in Miami so I gave an extra star for him.  He was very kind and provided execellent customer service.

I travel quite a bit so you might say I have some mighty high expectations of the hotels I choose. These include but are not limited to:

    - The ability to get a restful sleep with minimal interruption
    - A bedside lamp
    - Electrical outlets in close reach of the bed
    - Natural light

Based on these elements, I got what was probably the worst room in the Hotel St Augustine. The noise from the street was loud and the windows offered zero insulation against it. My room was essentially situated atop a bus stop.

There was no bedside lamp and none of the electrical outlets were close enough to the bed to allow me to charge my laptop or phone while using it.

Because this was a corner room there was an abundance of natural light. However, because the window coverings were not well thought out you had two options:

    - Light-filled and on display to folks waiting at the bus stop
    - Dark and private

Sunny AND private would be so easy - all the Hotel St Augustine would have to do is add a filmy layer of window covering beneath their blackout shades.

Instead, you'll check into your room at 3:00 in the afternoon to find it pitch black with the lights turned on, despite the abundance of sun on Miami Beach.

The few redeeming qualities of the Hotel St Augustine include Bailey the dog, H2O+ bath products and the multi-headed steam shower with bench inside.

Given a choice I wouldn't choose this hotel again.

I've stayed at this hotel twice and I loved it both times. I've only stayed one night each time because I live only a few zip codes away and can't justify a two night stay at a "local" hotel.

The location is on the "other side" of 5th on South Beach, not very loud and crazy, but very laid back and quiet. The hotel is very small and cozy and the hotel staff is very nice. They serve an extensive continental breakfast free of charge (who doesn't like free?!)

St. Augustine is within walking distance of a few restaurants or a short cab ride away from a good time (i.e. The Cleavlender) The rooms are VERY nice, the bed is large and cloud-like, it sits low to the ground so if you roll off in the middle of the night you won't fall to far. The bathroom is exquisite and is seen in higher-end hotels, the faucets sit a little to low into the sink in my opinion, but they get the job done. The shower....OOOOOHHHH.....the shower. It's a steam shower, it's surrounded by glass, it's the kind of shower that if you had it in your house, your water and electric bill would be sky high! My advice, turn on the shower then adjust the water temp BEFORE you get in the shower (yes it gets THAT HOT!) The steam control is to the right of the shower door on the inside....it took me a minute to figure that out LOL

The price isn't ridiculous, if I came from out of town and was looking for a relaxing hotel, this would be my pick. St. Augustine provides beach towels, parking (at a discounted price), breakfast, free wi-fi and a real quiet, enjoyable atmosphere for you to relax in.

I can't wait to stay here again

Meh. Noisy air conditioner, tired looking room, shower door the cleaning staff have given up on.

The location is great, with easy access to SoBe and a cab ride anywhere else your heart desires. I would have preferred sleeping in a tent to the room with the insane air conditioner - a large ceiling unit that cycles on and off without an option to run the fan continuously. It was either dead quiet or jarringly loud, switching just often enough to prevent any restful sleep. Made for a very cranky morning.

The room itself has seen better days, the walls are kinda thin and dingy with poor paint coverage and the maple furniture is worn. The remodel hasn't held up well aesthetically. Also, there isn't a bedside lamp... how are you supposed to get to the bathroom in the dark after all those drinks without killing yourself on the angular furniture?

The bathroom isn't separated from the rest of the room with a door which makes washing your hands or showering impossible for your companion to sleep through. The toilet does have a door in case that matters to you.

On the spectacular end is the steam shower, which does live up to the hype. Even on a hot day a good steam still feels amazing, and you can take a cold shower after for an extra *zing!* Sadly, the glass door looks to have not been cleaned in a bit, which made the shower seem a bit ... used.

And ew, I always wash the room glasses before using them, ours were visually "clean" but dirty inside to the touch. Gross.

Skip it unless you get a screaming deal and bring earplugs.

My experience was good. Upon check in the guest service was helpful and made it very easy to do business with. We did have to self park for $20 and you had to squeeze your car thru a passage way. Anyway it's a two story building we were on the first floor and you can pretty much hear everything! The Only complaint other than the noise and loud a/c would be the smell. We had to spray the room with perfume!! Lol but the room itself was a double the beds were clean and comfy. It was a nice room. Loved the bathroom and the shower. Nice Miami feel to it. The price was great and the next morning we had coffee which was really good and the lady bartender was very sweet!! Overall I would stay here again! It was a short walk to the beach and all the hype!! Plus they gave us free towels!!!!

Most of the time, I stay in chain hotels if only for the consistency. In places like Miami Beach, though, chain hotels either aren't abundant, or too pricey, so found these guys on TripAdvisor.

I'm also picky about things like a modernistic and clean decor, and from looking at the photos, they were right up my alley - esp for the price in comparison with the rest of Miami Beach.

Through the website Bookings.com , they quoted me at an average of $137 p/night if I pre-paid my stay (i.e. non-cancellation policy). Fair enough.

The great things about this place -

Great location, but not on the loud streets.
    Art Deco architecture.
Modern room decor not more than a few years old.
Great bathroom with travertine marble shower and accents.
Simple, no fuss, no muss - for the price being right.
Coffee and water in the lobby all day long.

Free continental breakfast with simple items such as juice, yogurt, cold cereal, high-quality bakery pastries, and coffee.

The not-so-great things about this place -

They need a fresh can o' paint inside and out.
Even though the upgrades look recent. the place is looking tired, including the furniture.
Dark Brown carpet in the hallways is not conducive to looking clean.

A coffee pot and alarm clock in the room would be nice; to me, those are simple standards that every American hotel room should have.

The giant steam shower that they tout wasn't functional. All they had was a simple timer for it on the wall, so it's not like I couldn't figure it out.

The walls are thin. I really don't think that the neighbors were intentionally being loud; it's just that I heard them all the time!

I stayed here for three nights, and was NEVER able to log-in to wi-fi, even with the password. I went downstairs to ask for a hard network cable.

They have this modern looking modular shelf unit in the room on which sits the small old box of a 19" TV at the very top. It's really hard to watch a TV elevated to a non-realistic eye level, even if you are not watching porn from the bed!!!!

Even though they were clean, they weren't clean enough for me. Their standards might be OK in a normal person's house, but definitely not in the hospitality industry. They clearly don't clean the clear-glass shower door, cuz it had water stains all over it.

i.e. their desk space in the room had a slightly sticky film, which I cleaned off with my towel.

    they tout non-smoking, though then I first opened the room door, it definitely smelled like nicotine;

Dunno what else to say here, except that they definitely don't deserve more than 3-stars. If they were to do some really simple things like paint, maybe polish it up a bit, and do some deep cleaning everywhere, that could go a long way.

Also, perhaps, get some new TVs for the room, and go in and make sure everything such as the steam showers are functional and have been maintained well.

All-in-all, I'd only stay here again if the price was right. ;-)

I come to SoBe for 2 weeks every winter and have stayed at the big name hotels (Fountainblu, Eden Roc). I agree with all the previous positive comments made here by others. I want to add that what makes this place special for me are:  location (x3), the attentive staff, and the relaxed atmosphere. I have made acquaintances with several guests either at breakfast or reading the newspaper out in the porch. This place is obviously a "word of mouth" place from what I gathered in conversation.  I came here to relax and I have accomplished just that. I walk to the beach every morning (2 blocks) and walk to many restaurants and stores with ease. I will come back and stay here from now on.

Right on Washington if you're interested in being about two blocks from the beach. As for nightlife, you have Mansion, Cameo, and Dream further down the block.

The hotel itself is a small two-floor hotel. The front desk is pretty courteous, but the place is nothing stellar.

Agreeing with other Yelpers, the steam room/shower is pretty spacious and nice, but the beds are average and beach towels are a bit raggedy.

If you want to have a better time in Miami, I'd check out Collins Ave. and Ocean Ave. for more vibrancy.

Got king room 105 first night. Nice modern. Must be comfortable w your significant other as bathroom is real open. Lots of light through bathroom milk glass if you need pitch dark to sleep. Wasn't a problem for me and we liked hotel so stayed another night. They had all king rooms booked so moved to queen room 201 on second floor. This bathroom was way more private. Also dark at night.
    Loved breakfast pastries.
    Staff real nice.
Good value as we stayed at Loews the week before and although they have a nice pool, we payed double there and we went for beach anyways.

This was one of the best hotels we stayed at in South Beach! We were impressed with the hospitality, guest services, rooms, comfort and security. Wonderful, helpful front staff. Best shower ever, it had steam options! Beds were extremely comfortable too :) enjoy
