Cool hotel, but the location is really the best thing about it.  Great restaurant in the front of the hotel with outdoor seating on Ocean Dr.  A lot of fun on a busy weekend night.

I spent about an hour researching Miami Beach hotels before settling on the Pelican Hotel due to its intriguing mix of rooms.  We booked a three-night weekend stay in the hopes of having a fun, positive experience in Miami Beach.

Unfortunately, both my girlfriend and I left with a terrible overall experience of the hotel which unfortunately took away from our entire vacation experience.

The hotel's policy offers guests complimentary bottles of mineral water.  With that in mind, after 2.5 hours of walking in scorching Miami heat, we attended front desk to ask for 2 bottles but the front desk attendant at the time was chatting on the phone.  We then proceeded to visit the bar, asking the bartender for 2 bottles of water and if they could be included as part of the complimentary water offered to hotel guests.

The bartender misheard me, thinking I told him to charge it to the room, and came back with a bill for the 2 water bottles.  Knowing that it was not his job to know about the complimentary water, we walked back to the front desk to explain the situation to the girl who by then had gotten off the phone.  We were immediately confronted with rudeness, a lack of understanding and very demeaning treatment.  The girl wouldn't even take the time to let me explain the situation fully and continually cut me off, telling me she had no authority after the last time she cut me off.

I then asked to speak to the manager, so she called the hotel "CEO", who came to the check-in desk after about 5 minutes, already aware of the situation because the girl in the front explained it to him when she called him.

Up to this point, my girlfriend and I were very cool and approached the situation for all that it was, a misunderstanding between us and the bartender.  However, the "CEO" turned that all around when he came up to me within just a couple of inches, put on his best tough guy face and almost spit at me barking, "What's the problem?"

I responded that there was no problem and before being able to explain further, he cut me off right there and said that's good and began turning away.  As he was turning away, I asked him if he was aware of the situation and he said that he was and that it is what it is and that the rules are the rules and the water from the bar is not complimentary.  He did not give me a chance to explain what actually happened, let alone show ANY sign of sympathy for the situation or concern to us as hotel guests.  He continued to be VERY aggressive with me and finished by telling me, "I'll give you the 8 dollars in the morning," implying that I was trying to in some way be cheap and rip the hotel off, and then turned around and walked away, leaving me stunned and speechless.  I have NEVER been disrespected in this manner by any level of hotel staff in my life.

Needless to say, from that moment on, I hated every bit of moment that I had to spend at the Pelican Hotel.  Furthermore, when we checked out, the hotel did charge me for those 2 bottles.  Fortunately, the hotel General Manager was decent enough to see me that morning and after some reluctance, offered to clear my bill up.

Quite ironically, that same morning after getting out of the shower, I found a cockroach in the bathroom, which struck me as a comical metaphoric clincher to my experience at the hotel.

The bottom line is - I will NEVER EVER even think about staying at this hotel again, and will recount this story to anyone that asks me about my experience in Miami.  I don't care if celebrities have stayed at that hotel.  It does not give hotel management the authority to treat "regular" guests as a nuisance and definitely does not give them the authority to ruin their entire trip experience.

The entire South Beach community could put on a clinic for customer service.  Rarely have I experienced such consistent graciousness.  Standing out among these, is the Pelican Hotel.  My best friend and I now live in distant cities.  Once a year we go somewhere and spend a week.  This year we picked South Beach, not knowing we were placing ourselves in the center of Spring Break, the Ultra Music Festival, Winter Music Conference, etc.  What a surprise!  (We are two old ladies)  Our Executive 50's King Suite at the Pelican had great charm and a lovely panoramic view of the ocean -- but the party, party, party never stopped and we wanted some relief from the constant noise.  We started exploring other options but everybody kept telling us the Pelican would never let us out of our reservation without a significant penalty, enough to deter.  Still, I asked. Could we be excused from our reservation without a penalty?  With all possible kindness, they did!  These people couldn't have been better.  We relocated, but always checked our window fondly from the street -- and were happy to see the Pelican was immediately able to fill our room!

Beautiful rooms, all decorated differently and with their own separate themes. Stay in a suite if your budget allows and enjoy the space and separate lounge area. Bathrooms are decadent and perfect for a sweet afternoon bath for two.
Service is impeccable. Complimentary champagne for newlyweds! Book with the concierge for the clubs you want to party at in the evenings. Be sure to have at least one meal in the award winning cafe.

Superlative service. Mauricio at the front desk is a prince.
If you are heading to South Beach and you need a perfect home away from home, you can't go wrong with The Pelican.

My gf and I stayed in the Me Tarzan, You Vain room and it was really nice and creative. We were there for the month of April, it was hot but our room was cool, thanks to the air conditioner. The bed is also really comfy.

The hotel is directly across the street from South Beach, which is really convenient. Hotel valet parking was worth what we paid, all you have to do is pull up in front of the hotel and hand your keys to the valet guy and on your way to your room. Beach towels are provided by the hotel, and beach chairs as well. All you have to do is tell them your room number when you head to South Beach and they will set up the beach chairs for you. No additional charge.

Your room will always be clean on a daily. They also give you free chocolates and water bottles in the room.

If I ever go back to Miami I would definitely stay at the Pelican Hotel.

Cozy hotel in the 'line of fire' known as Ocean Drive. Good drinks and a comfortable & clean room. We stayed in the 'People From The 50's room.

This place is great.  Reasonably priced and right across the street from the beach.  Free wi-fi, and friendly staff.  The hotel provides free beach chairs and towels (but not umbrellas).  The toiletries were very nice also.  The walls are thin, so we slept with earplugs.  But otherwise, the place was great!!  I would definitely stay there again.

I'm not one for gushing about a hotel I stay in (especially after just one night), but after a brief, but lavish, break at the Pelican in Miami Beach, I figured the experience was worthy of a positive Yelp review.

This Art Deco hotel is owned by world-renowned clothing brand Diesel, and it shows in the gritty slickness of the design detailing and furnishings. We were lucky enough to stay in the Best Whorehouse suite - I had specifically requested it during the website booking process and was delighted when my appeal was granted!

It's too bad my Beloved and I were encumbered by an aggressive bout of jet lag, otherwise, I would have really made the most of what could have been a long evening spent at the cosy bar, or at the very least, gathered myself to order one meal from the imaginative menu at the Pelican Cafe.

The Pelican Hotel is essentially one of those inimitable haunts you recommend to friends looking for an alternative to a Hilton or a Marriott.

Its location on Ocean Drive, I might add, can't be beat (and drivers can leave their cars with the valet attendants at a cost of $22 per night, sans tip). So you can drop off your car, luggage and inhibitions to experience some of the best of South Florida's spectacular landscape.

We had been planning a trip down to South Beach for about 5 months prior to our stay here, for our private destination wedding. I spent a couple of months browsing sites, comparing prices, etc. and hadn't found anything that really called out to me as "the place" we wanted to stay. Then, I stumbled upon a review from TripAdvisor about the Pelican, and within minutes I was sold!

Our experience here was nothing short of amazing!
The hotel is located conveniently on Ocean Drive, near an abundance of nightlife, shopping, dining, etc., all within comfortable walking distance. Anything further was merely a cheap taxi ride away!

The service here was very friendly, yet not overly intrusive. A manager was present and visible to the guests every time we were in the lobby, cafe, or bar area. Upon learning of our recent, minutes old, wedding on the beach, we were offered complimentary glasses of champagne and also a couple of t-shirts from the gift shop. We were very flattered by their attentiveness and warm response.

Each room of the hotel has a different theme, and ours was the Executive Fifties room. The ocean view was breathtaking, and the sliding windows made for a nice flow of fresh air into our room. The wood floors were a refreshing break from the normal abundance of carpet in most hotel rooms. The decor was era appropriate, kitschy, and fun. The bed was large (king) and a dream to sleep on. The suites were seemingly a bit pricey when I booked them, but after our stay, I can honestly say that the stay & room were a great value!

The Pelican Cafe is small, yet elegant and refreshing. Unlike many of the pushy, gimmicky restaurants & cafes along Ocean Dr, it is a quiet, yet inviting, oasis for passersby who have been hassled in their search for beach view dining. The food was nothing short of delectable. I recommend the Steak & Fries with the peppercorn caper sauce. The drinks are also delicious, I had my fill of Bellinis on our stay!

I would HIGHLY recommend staying here on your next trip to the South Beach/Miami area! You won't be disappointed!

This was a great hotel at an awesome location.  Literally right across from the beach, the have south beach right at your door step.  The rooms were very unique and while they were smaller than what we're typically used to, it seems like all the south beach hotels were around the size.  The rooms were clean and neat as was the bathroom.  The staff was also very nice and accommodating.  My favorite feature about this place is that your fees included beach hair and umbrellas out on the beach, which gets pricey if your hotel doesn't provide this amenity.

Other than that, this place is right on ocean drive so you don't have to go too far to experience south beach nightlife when the sun goes down.  You have access to plenty of restaurants, bars, lounges, and shops.

    Excess of everything is bad!!

Excessive decor inside the room made me feel like I am in a jazzy oversized trial/fitting room of an upscale designer store. Would not matter if you are there for nightlife and use the room sparingly...but if you are looking for nice, contemporary and comfortable place then this may not be the best option..

The restaurant is nice and they offer complementary drinks which is great to get started for the evening...

The room was clean and very neat bamboo style. Everything was within walking distance. Will definitely be back!!!

I just returned from a fabulous vacation in South Beach and I know that this hotel added to the wonderful experience.  This place is located right in the heart of South Beach on Ocean Drive.  This is a lively spot but I suspect that most people are prepared for this if staying on Ocean Drive in South Beach.  The cafe/restaurant in the front plays music day and night and when you arrive you will be bobbing and weaving through the waitstaff.  But don't worry, everyone I encountered on staff is so friendly and accommodating.  This is truly a boutique hotel, the decor is very retro, art deco, colorful and trendy.  Each room is decorated around a central theme including names that reflect that theme.  The room is stayed in was called "A Fortune in Aluminum ( pelicanhotel.com/room-a_… ) ".  I really liked the silver theme.

The best part about the rooms is the shower.  The rain shower head is absolutely amazing and I thoroughly enjoyed taking showers.  You are also provided with C.O Bigelow bath samples.

What I hated most about the rooms was that the beds were HARD.  If you like a hard bed, you will like these beds, but they were the only thing that I didn't like about the room.

Another great thing about our room was that housekeeping kept my room clean!  They came twice a day.  We also got chocolates and the next days weather every evening.

Another great thing about this hotel is that the elevator works!  So many  South Beach boutique hotels seem to have elevators but they never seem to be working.  This hotel's elevator worked during my whole stay and could fit a couple people comfortably.

Our stay was not perfect, but the hotel made up for it.  The shower broke the first night, which was quite surprising (it would not turn off) and we were unable to change rooms.  But they did fix the shower the next day and BECAUSE WE ASKED, they gave us complimentary breakfast.  I was quite happy with the breakfast as well.

Also the free wifi connection is weak.

All-in-All this was a nice place to stay and I would recommend.

Located right smack in the middle of the Art Deco area of South Beach. Just steps away from the beach. Great great location. However the front desk was not very helpful regarding local attractions and events for NYE. We checked into the Vegas room which was so freaking gaudy. I felt like I stepped into the bedroom of a Charlie's Angel. I did like the big stand in shower with the humungous showerhead. Not worth the price.

Prior to arriving at The Pelican, my husband and I were beyond excited to be spending our honeymoon so close to the beach, and in a fabulous Art Deco hotel. Wrong! The moment we walked into this dark, dingy dwelling, we immediately wanted to turn and run the other direction. However, we pushed on (bad decision). There were no elevator buttons, instead permanent marker was used to indicate floor number. We then entered our hotel room and were surprised to find that it looked nothing like the rooms displayed on The Pelican's website. Instead, it resembled a dirty drug den. I am no hotel brat. I can stay at a motel 6 and be comfortable. However, our room made the Motel 6 look like the Ritz-Carleton. On top of our frustration with our room, the service was terrible. We ate at their restaurant 4 times and each time it took 20 minutes for anyone to even acknowledge we were there to eat. The ironic fact is that there were only patrons sitting at two other tables and five waiters wandering aimlessly around. South Beach was not a complete bust as we ate at several other hotels along Ocean Drive, and received excellent service.

Really great hotel! Went with 7 friends. We actually ended up booking this place through hotwire. We were originally told by Pelican that because we booked through hotwire, we would be getting twin beds during our stay. Imagine couples on twin beds! However, they ended up providing us with our request for queen beds. The concierge that greeted us was super friendly and actually gave us some cool facts. I guess this hotel is owned by the Diesel guy, which is really great! Each of the rooms has a different theme. My husband and I happened to stay in "The Best Whorehouse". It was so cool! The room was awesomely decorated and very vintage! You could tell they put a whole lot of work into it.
We stayed two nights and took advantage of the happy hour at the bar both nights. Free drinks for hotel guests from 4-6pm. Wow! The drinks were amazing. We tried several, including the mojitos and raspberry crush! One day, the bartender (Chris) even made us his specialty. It was a hot and spicy drink with chili powder on the rim and jalapeno infusions.

We had an awesome experience here and we were treated like 5-star guests from start to finish. I definitely recommend you stay here when in South Beach.

I love the decor of this boutique hotel! I wish I could visit each of the rooms.   We stayed in the Viva Las Vegas room.  Rooms are small as are all in South Beach.  Small but functional for two.  The bed was too hard for me but perfect for my husband. He thought the mattress was perfect.  Usually his leg bothers him at night but not with this bed.   The shower was amazing!  Best shower ever! Rainfall shower head with heavy water pressure.  Perfect location on Ocean Drive for walking up and down the strip.  During our stay breakfast was included, two drinks pp during Happy hour, 2 bottles of water and beach chairs across the street.  We booked through hotels.com 6 months prior.  When I called the night before arrival, the hotel did not show my reservation.   This was corrected promptly and I had no issues upon check in.  Others in our group were staying at The Colony and Avalon.  Comparing notes with them,  we definitely made the better choice for hotel.  Next time, I am visiting South Beach, I would like to stay here again.  Reason they are getting 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the snafu with my reservation and the mattress too hard for me.  An optional pad or egg crate would be a nice option. ...for half the bed in my case.

The Viva Las Vegas room at the Pelican Hotel is a drag queen's dream! Well, maybe a drag queen on a budget.

Not a slight by any means, but a true diva-licious drag queen might demand a bit more luxury out of her hotel room. However for lil ol' me, it was just fine.

Each room at The Pelican Hotel has it's own distinctive, fun theme. I can only imagine what some of the other rooms were like. Although my room was modest in size, it was playful and full of color and flamboyant chachkis.

Just don't dive onto the bed with all of your weight. It's not as soft as it looks.

I also will mention for you claustrophobes, the room felt a bit snifling shaped in a fairly small square with just one small window. However, if you've come to South Beach to live it up, this shouldn't really matter since this will probably become just a place to shower and rest your head. For this, it's all goodies.

Plus, it's right in the mix of everything. Step out anytime after 9pm and there will be tons of action just a few steps past the entry of the hotel.

Definitely a great deal for the dollar!

This hotel should not have 4 stars. If you are used to a 4 star hotel in Chicago, New York or San Francisco  this will be extremely disappointing. The beds are hard, the bathrooms are old and dirty and the free breakfast and happy hour come with terrible service. Maybe a few of the rooms at this hotel are nice because each room is so different, but is that really how a hotel should lure people in? The only bright spot was the free towels and beach chairs. I do not understand the good reviews of this hotel at all.

Pelican, can I please just move in?

Originally, my partner and I were coming to Miami for a night before we left on a fabulous Caribbean cruise. We'd chosen some random, antiseptic Hyatt or Marriott or something quite generic, then Kayak suggested we go for something on South Beach. Knowing next to nothing about the area, I looked at the photos online, saw that they offered a free 2-drink happy hour from 4-6 pm for guests, and free hot (not continental) breakfast the next morning, too, I pulled the trigger and made our reservation.

South Beach is charming, Art Deco-tastic, walkable, and safe. The Pelican is nestled amongst many other Art Deco boutique hotels, but here's what makes it different:

*Someone left the front desk to come get our bags out of the cab, then said, "No thanks, just happy to help you out" when I offered a tip
*The rooms are unique, nicely sized, and are each decorated with quirky retro-vintage decor
*The front desk staff is wonderful, and went out of their way to ensure that our stay was wonderful. This included making small talk with me while my partner primped, suggesting fun clubs to go to that night, and telling me that I look great in orange. (Which, coincidentally, I do!)
*The happy hour was wonderful - the pours were really outstanding, especially for a "free" happy hour for guests. There was no hitch either - two free drinks meant two free drinks. I drank many, many more than two, and they were worth every dime.
*The free breakfast - yum. I still daydream of those mimosas.
*It's about a block away from the beach, which was a really nice early evening stroll for us landlocked Midwesterners.
*Have I mentioned that the staff is gorgeous? Seriously. This is very shallow, but there wasnt an even remotely unattractive person working here.

Special note: The room was spotless, quiet, the linens were soft and clean, and the shower was large and magnificent! Good free toiletries, too.

The front desk staff called a cab at my request, which was there promptly on time. This place is also only about a 15-minute cab ride from the Miami Cruise Port - if you're going on a cruise, I'd absolutely recommend staying here.

We'll be back for a long weekend - I love hotel staycations, and The Pelican offered everything - and more - that I would want in such a situation.

Pelican, we will see you SOON. Keep a light on for us. (Just don't be mad if we don't ever want to leave.)

If you want to be in the heart of the Art Deco District, the location is perfect. The free water, drinks and breakfast each day are a nice touch. Beach chairs and towels are also free. The Hotel staff is very friendly, the cleaning staff does a terrific job keeping a beach hotel from becoming "sandy". We stayed in room 208 and rented 207 for my sister in law. Both were clean and, yes, it's not a new Hilton, it's better. Lots of character, Friendly staff who try hard and an amazing location. HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommended as long as you are not wanting an antiseptically clean generic "Hotel" room.

I don't usually gush, but this place was seriously amazing. My expectations were a little low, because I haven't found South Beach all that friendly to visit in the past. I stayed here for one night before a cruise and nearly everything was great. Arriving at 11pm the staff were still friendly and the restaurant was hopping on a Thursday night. We didn't get our room choice, but loved the art deco theme of our room anyway. I was nervous about the bathrooms because there are few pictures on the website, but I loved the decor and the spacious shower.

Breakfast in the hotel was delicious but dinner was a bit disappointing. It was very expensive ($177 for an entree, a baked potato, and 4 cocktails) and the quality of the tomatoes and cheese in the caprese salad was so disappointing.  The fried seafood platter was lower the Red Lobster quality for fine dining prices. So, despite the great energy and service, I wouldn't bother with the restaurant when there are so many great options nearby.

Still, the hotel itself was a total win. Quirky charm, incredibly friendly people (really, every single person was awesome. I've never seen a hotel manage that before), a fun, comfortable and beautiful room, and a great beach right outside with free beach chairs. I noticed that everyone, regardless of age, size, race or relative hipness was treated with the same charm. That's unusual, and really wonderful to see.

Excellent. Everything was more than I expected. This hotel is close to everything and it's the place to be. It's right on Ocean Drive where the party life is. If you like huge high rise hotels, this isn't for you.

All the management and staff were very friendly and gave me tips for places to go and eat. They were very friendly. Good breakfast included but I only made it twice because I'd sleep in. Happy Hour - 2 drinks per guest. Try the mojito!!!

The only complaint I have are the beds. They are too hard. Other than that everything was good. It's a good small hotel right off the beach. I'd recommend and I'd stay again.

The only way to get a beach view is to get a penthouse.

I'm lucky.  Very lucky.  I booked the Pelican via Hotwire and was so happy with what we got.  My wife and I were graciously greeted by the general manager.  He asked if we wanted our beds pushed together and we said yes.  He asked if we could wait a few minutes to get the bed ready and escorted us to the bar for our complementary 2 free daily drinks.  That free drink menu was extensive and included some spicy concoctions that I of course had to try.  The drinks were eclectic and excellent and we looked forward to 2 more days of those free happy hour drinks!

We were assigned to the Some Like it Wet Room and had a great time living in the lap of 1920s naval luxury.  It's rare to find a boutique hotel with *free wifi, *a room safe and *a mini fridge for all the pre-party booze (and maybe some leftover seafood).

We loved our time in Miami and the Pelican.  I'm just sorry that we didn't get to try the complimentary breakfast because we needed the sleep.  If I ever get to go to Miami again, I'll do my best to stay at the Pelican.....if only Hotwire can guarantee they'll give me that assignment!

    *Tip 1

Need ice for your beer and booze?  I called the front desk and the GM brought me an ice bucket.  Excellent service!

    **Tip 2

Be nosey and walk the halls of the different floors to check out the other eclectically designed rooms

    ***Tip 3

Turn off your A/C unit at 4AM and just enjoy the bumping club music coming from next door and all the partying and screaming from Ocean Drive party goers.   You'll swear you're in Vegas!

First timer in Miami and I am in love.

Pelican, we were so fortunate to have booked you.

Hotwire secret rate landed us here in this Art Deco eclectic boutique hotel sitting right on oceans drive across the street from the beach.

Unassuming checkin tucked inside and behind the restaurant/bar. Easy friendly service.

Perks! Happy hour (2 drinks/person) and breakfast included. I think w these totaled we more than made up for our hotel rate! Not the best cocktails and plebeian bfast options but no complaints from this one, I'm sitting in south beach and it's paying for itself.

Loved the themed rooms, wish I could have seen more of them.

Obsessed w the rain shower head. Literally took 3 showers in less than 24hrs. Awesome products. Comfy bed. It's humid there so slight mildew scent but aircon worked great and it was very clean.

Writing this now I wish I were back. I will be back.

I'm a spoiled Loews guest/customer who wanted to save a little money. After extensive research, I found the Pelican Hotel.

Upon arrival via taxi, the restaurant hostess working outdoors and on the sidewalk, grabbed my girlfriends luggage and carried it to the front desk....then refused a tip. It wasn't her job to help us in that regard. UNHEARD OF in South Beach. Unfortunately, I didn't get her name. Very good customer service.

The front desk was well prepared, specifically Carlos. He was very polite and had all my info front and center. We arrived 3 hours prior to check-in, yet they were able to accommodate us and immediately issued our room keys.

Or room was amazing. Researching the hotel, I found the hotel/ocean front rooms are very nice. I can't speak for the other rooms, but each are unique. Great water pressure, refrigerator, large tv, sound system and nice bed. Many hotel beds are too soft. The bed is on the stiff side, but that's the style. Good for your back and good to my girlfriend...thus good for me. The Pelican Hotel is pretty quiet considering it's location on Ocean Drive.

The Pelican Hotel offers complimentary breakfast, beach towels, beach chairs and bottled water. Oh, and complimentary Happy Hour from 4-6pm. That's a lot of "complimentaries." Is that a word?

The staff is very courteous and helpful. I had a great chat with Brian the bartender (as he was working). Surprisingly, these folks seem to like their jobs, and that attitude and friendliness trickles down to the guests.

The ONLY drawback is no pool, but that's ok. It's worth the savings. I would usually subtract a star, but the staff was over-the-top with customer service.

We'll definitely return and recommend this hotel. And damn, I'm comparing the Pelican to Loews. Great company to compare...when comparing with ocean front rooms.

I am a hotel brat. There, I said it. The least hotel I will generally stay at is a Kimpton brand....and I turn my nose up at anything less.

However, the Pelican was amazzzzzzing! In trying to figure out where to stay, we kept going back and forth and back and forth. The Pelican gave us a fantastic Florida resident rate--our total stay for a night was $212.

Did I mention that $212 included...valet, complimentary drinks for two hours, complimentary FULL (delicious!) breakfast, A-MAZING service and beach chairs AND umbrellas for not one, but TWO days at the beach?

We had a room for two and it (and hotel!) also held up to my boutique standards...each room has a different theme and is very funky, well decorated, with modern, clean bathrooms. The front desk bent over backwards, for anything we needed.

Not to mention the location, right on Ocean, is amazing. Granted, as people said, there is no pool...but when you have that amazing beach in front of you....who cares?

We will definitely be back!  Keep in mind, the rate we had was Florida resident...but from what I hear, they are decently priced anyways!

This is an amazing place to stay right on Ocean Drive and the value is even better.  If you are looking for an Art Deco or boutique hotel, this is it!  Our room was amazing and the whole hotel is decorated magnificently.  The staff are over the top nice; we stayed four nights and everyone knew us and our room number right away.  The food is good too and you CANNOT BEAT free (anything you want) two hour happy hour daily.  Amazing!  We also happened to come at a time where there was free breakfast  daily.  It was great food and a variety of offers!

The location of this place is perfect!  Right near many places to eat and the beach is across the street!  We easily walked all over South Beach to different destination points and clubs (we never took a cab)!  Over all, this was one of the best vacation experiences I have ever had.  Highly recommend them!

I've book just one night so i can try different hotels on ocean dr.
Then as soon as i walked into the room, i decided to stay for another night just to see how different the other rooms are. Each room in this entire hotel has a unique theme with a name. If you're into retro stylish environment, this is the place.

Loved staying here!! The hotel is absolutely in the most perfect local - on Ocean right at 8th, so you can walk across the street to the sand, cruise up to the clubs, down to Nikki Beach, over to Washington or Collins and hit more restaurants, spas and clubs, Walgreen's is just around the corner on 5th and is open 24 hours so you are never without anything.

Every room has a cute little name and the names on every door. You get beach chairs and towels if you want them - again FREE. Wireless internet is also FREE. 4 Bottles of water in your room - yes, it's free too. Oh and  free breakfast everyday AND two free drinks per person every day...love that!

We didn't have any real view from the room, but who cared. We didn't hang out there, heck we practically didn't even sleep there -it's SoBe!!  The bed was firm as others have said, but I found it very comfortable. The rain shower shower head is great too. Each room has a blow dryer, basic lotions, shampoos, etc. The closet was awesome and the dresser was a big help for storage.

The walls in our room were so cool. The vibe was awesome. It was pretty quiet overall. Loved the iPod stereo in the room. Put on Pandora with the free WiFi and was all set with music for the whole stay. Gave us all the towels we wanted too!

    Know before  you go....
1). this is not a new, swanky, modern place..this is old school Art Deco and it's fun and funky. play along and you'll love it.
    2) best location ever, steps from the beach and central to all clubs up and down miami beach
    3) Not the best setup for putting on makeup because of lack of lighting and sink space ended up using the kitchenette table.

Stayed for 4 days and 3 nights. Really good customer service..polite and courteous staff. Nice concept and every room is unique. Our room was 315 - up up in the sky. Pretty decent room and would definitely like to try some other room next time we visit. Perfect location..right across the beach. Perks included - free breakfast, happy hours (2drinks free per person), beach chairs and beach towels. Totally enjoyed it. The drinks were amazing and besides it was free :)
We had evening flight and the staff allowed us to keep our bags there even after check out. They were even very kind to give an extra one hour extension during checkout so we could enjoy more of the beach time. Next time we visit we know where we want to stay.

This hotel is great if you want the ocean drive action at an affordable price. Very easy to find. Its the only bright green hotel on ocean drive. The front desk was extremely friendly and fast. Free breakfast every morning from their menu and 2 free alcoholic drunks from the bar at happy hour. The bartenders were great and deff mix them strong. Dinner at the restaurant is pricey, but so is every restaurant on ocean drive. All of the rooms all have a different theme and you can't choose which one you get so its just luck of the draw. The first room my wife and I stayed in was the Bang A Boomerang room. It was way smaller than we had thought it would be. Barely had room for our clothes. We stayed in this room for a few nights until we had an enormous cockroach find its way in. We complained to the front desk and they didn't seem to think it was a big deal but we demanded a different room. If we have to have most of our clothes in our bags on the floor because there isn't enough room to hang anything, then I better not see giant roaches running around like they own the place. We were shown another deluxe queen suite on the same floor (don't remember the name) but as soon as the door opened my wife said no. The roomed wreaked of urine. Strong strong smell. Yuck. Next room was the Lust in Space room which is a king suite. This room was definitely nicer and way bigger then the other rooms. The problem with this is that they said we could only spend the night in this room and had to be out by checkout in the morning because someone else was checking in. Sure... Whatever... It was already around midnight at this point  and we just wanted to get some rest. It all worked out the next morning because they told us we didn't need to check out of the room and it was a free upgrade. Couldn't complain. I would recommend this hotel and I would stay here again if we return to Miami again.

This hotel is a glorified hostel. it is NOT a 4 star hotel.

    PROS:
    Staff is super sweet.
    Location cannot be beat.
    Free decent breakfast.
Rooms are individually decorated. Quaint, artsy, vintage... very south beach like.

    Cons:
    My shower didn't work.
I waited 20 mins for coffee.
Room are not just small, tiny.
Walls are Paper Thin. You cannot sleep at night,.
Absolutely no view from the room.

    A glorified hostel.

This is the worst hotel experience I've ever had. When we arrived at the hotel we were told we would be staying in a different building down the road, a bad sign. The Pelican has 'one' room a couple doors down the road in an apartment building with dozens of other units full of people that have no association with the Pelican. It had a small kitchen with burn marks behind the stove indicating a prior kitchen fire, your very own water heater in a closet in case you want to change the water temperature, a constantly running toilet, and plain white walls so as to not distract you with anything visually interesting other than the dirt and hand prints everywhere. And the best part, a restaurant balcony immediately next to your hotel window. If you want screaming, drunk people leaning on your paper-thin windows at all hours, this is the room for you. But don't worry, if you don't like the room you can just pick up the phone and dial 0. Wait, no you can't. That won't get you someone at the Pelican. Dialing 0 gets you the front desk for the apartment building, not the Pelican. The most irritating part of all was how the guy at the Pelican kept trying to tell us how lucky we were to get this room. "It's a suite", "you get a kitchen", "other rooms are a downgrade", "you want a downgrade?", "this is a great room".  It was totally obvious he was trying to force us into a sub-par room.

This room had ZERO resemblance to anything on the Pelican's website. Nothing interesting to look at. Zero effort put into making it look nice. Every other Pelican room has a photo shoot on their website. Not this one. They are too embarrassed to have anyone see it.

When we told the desk we didn't want this awful room we were given a constantly changing story. First it was we'll get you another room if you don't like this one. Then it was we would have to move you between rooms each day. Then finally it was this room is what you get. His only offer was to charge us a couple hundred dollars more each night for a penthouse. He repeatedly refused to get us a manager to talk to, saying there was no manager there all weekend. When we called our travel agent to get a refund the travel agent said there were more rooms available at the Pelican making it rather obvious the guy at the Pelican was lying to us and had zero interest in helping us.

The room was booked through Hotwire but we had a very good idea what we were getting when we booked because Hotwire winks at you and says what hotel you will probably get.  We were beyond excited for months about this stay because we had a good time in the Pelican restaurant on a previous stay. This experience was the last thing we expected. Needless to say we will never be giving this hotel or its restaurant another dollar and will be telling everyone we know how awful it is. Bless Hotwire, they refunded us our payment in full and found us a hotel with infinitely more class than the Pelican.

They resolved a booking snafu.  And the place has some personality.  If you like boutique with a bit of fun (my room was themed the Me Tarzan, You Vain...all rooms are themed differently) then this is a good spot for you.
