Royal Sobe is not the Ritz but damn was it convenient to everything and comfy!  Beach 2 (?) blocks away, Mangos close enough to stagger home from and still catch a "call me a cab" at Wet Willies, we even made it to the Delano, Tequila Chicas, little havana, I only remember a fraction of the places =  ]
I do remember the bed was so comfortable!  White down comforters felt great with the ice cold air.  The hot tub was fun.  Party party party!
Actually we sat in the hot tub in the morning drinking incredible fresh tropical fruit smoothies from the corner coffee shop/deli spiked with dark rum.  As we chilled we watched the men work their way down the street with their long pole saws sawing off the coconuts right at our eye level.  So that's how it's done!  lol
Shopping, entertainment, gorgeous beaches and clubs.... oh my!
Will definitely stay here on our next trip to sobe
The staff at the desk were very helpful.  Didn't agree with her choice of "best cuban" but hey it was all good.
We parked our rental for 3 night and walked everywhere!
Oh and the news cafe was perfect for great food and people watching.  Very underrated.

My friend and I stayed here during ultra music festival. It's very convenient to the beach, a variety of shopping and several clubs. There's even a club downstairs, but that turned out to be more annoying than anything else. It's not a female-friendly club and the bass pounds till 5 am, so bring ear plugs. The room was totally spotless and had access to a sunny, clean terrace with a hot tub. The other guests were loud and belligerent one night, and as far as I could tell the security guard didn't try to intervene. The desk staff were very friendly and courteous. Good spot for folks on spring break but I think older vacationers might want to find some place calmer.

Yay Royal South Beach!  Definitely not a luxury hotel and the pictures on its website make everything look more modern and chic than it is, but it's clean and has the basics we needed for a 3 night crash pad.  It's perfectly located within a couple blocks to the beach, shopping, attractions, public transportation and everything, although its main entrance barely around the corner on a side street was usually a little deserted at night.  I'd read mixed reviews about the hospitality at Royal South Beach online, but our experience was good.  Mel was the woman we met first at the check-in desk and I was initially put off by her surliness, but after she saw us around a couple times she warmed up and was a real sweetie about giving us recommendations for clubs, etc.

The bathrooms and room itself were a bit tight, but the two twin beds were ok and noise from Washington Street fortunately didn't keep us up at night.  It was also a nice plus to have a fridge and microwave in the room, which was great for noshing on reheated leftovers after a night of clubbing.  The internet terminal in the lobby is also nice to have, although the thing is a dinosaur and is so slow and wobbly.

Overall, I'd recommend Royal South Beach Hotel.  If you're looking to save money and just have a clean place to crash at night, this is the place to stay.

As others have said, not the ritz but a great value. Wonderful location, room was clean and comfortable, and the service was really good. Very helpful with getting a cab for us when we were heading out and following up with the somewhat loopy Miami cab companies.

The location is about the only thing this place has going for it.  Maybe I have high standards, but I've had better rooms in $30 per night motels in Absecon NJ.  It's pretty dingy, the rooms are small and the TV is not more than 17 inches.  In addition, there is no parking so you have to pay for valet parking service and there are an additional $30 per night in hidden charges.  There was also construction going on all over the place during our stay in March 2011.

It IS a great location, but I'd recommend taking a pass...

I bought a Groupon good for 2 nights at this hotel. The pictures on Yelp and their website make this place look WAY nicer than it is. It looks more like a hostel than a hotel. The bed sank in the middle, the toilet wouldn't flush, the shower had no water pressure, the noise was insanely loud from all of the clubs at night.. After spending one night here, we couldn't wait to get home. We forfeited our 2nd night and will never go back.

I used it to shower, sleep, and as a home for my bags. It served purpose. The lady at the front my first day was more than courteous. The beds were comfortable, rooms very clean and the location was very convenient. Great price. Will stay there every time I go back unless I become a millionaire and get a vacation house lol

Very bizarrely charged my credit card before I arrived.

Like others have said, the pictures on the website do not match up with the reality. Definitely felt a sense of being let down, which is not a good way to start a trip.

Then the front desk guy was weird.

What a fabulous weekend! Highly recommend this hotel!
Location is amazing. You can walk to beach, clubs, etc. We even rented bikes and rode all around town.
Rooms are very clean and comfortable.
Staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable.
Rooms are spacious and the beds are very comfortable.
And the sandwich shop on the corner that is open 24/7 is the best! We went there twice a day. Best shakes in Miami!

Do not listen to those bad reviews!!! Some reviews scared me too! But here's the truth:
    1. You get what you pay for- not luxury but the hotel is nice and CLEAN
    2. Rooms include a little kitchenette, with a fridge, microwave, and dishes- which is awesome if you wanna save money on food or alcohol
    3. THE BEST LOCATION!!! I went to Miami with 2 girlfriends for our birthday. We walked everywhere- clubs, the beach, pool parties, shopping! And being that it was us 3 girls, we felt safe even walking to the hotel at 5 in the morning. Ocean drive is like 3 blocks away, Collins and Washington are great streets right before Ocean Dr. as well
    4. I loved the staff! They were all friendly, answered any questions, and gave us tips on where to go! Mel was great:)
    5. The sandwich shop on the corner- AMAZING! And it's open 24 hours!
    6. We got back to the hotel after 5am every night, so I cannot tell you if the hotel is too loud at night, but we all slept comfortably and will definitely re book another stay here!

My honest suggestion is that especially if you are young and going to party in Miami, STAY HERE! You won't regret it, I promise:)

This place was way better than expected. Stayed here after a cruise and wished we stayed here before as well.  It doesn't look like much on the outside, but very cute once you get to the rooms and the Solarium. It is a budget hotel, but I was extremely surprised. Everything was sparkling clean, the staff was very friendly, the location is PERFECT for Ocean Drive, Lincoln Road Mall access and the beach was just a few teeny blocks away.

I'm a fan of Gordon Ramsay's Hotel hell and, I have to say, I did not hesitate anywhere in terms of cleanliness. Would stay again for sure!

Tip: The Local area #150 bus drops you off from the airport to about 1 block away from this hotel for $2.50 (I was a bit nervous about doing this because I'm unfamiliar with where I was going, but TRUST ME, Soooo Easy!)

The Royal gets a huge "A" for effort.  The owners have turned a dump  into a very nice hostel-like property.  What you get is a private room and bathroom that is clean and comfortable.  The rooms are small so I would not consider cramming four adults  into one during spring break. The noisy a/c unit helped drown out the noise from Washington Avenue during the night and I slept great.  The unit also kept the room cool despite the noise.  The bed was comfortable.

If you want to come to South Beach but don't have unlimited funds, the Royal is your spot especially if you're only using the room to sleep, shower and change.  In my case, this was a one-night business trip and I found the accommodation a pleasant surprise.

What could be a great find because of the price and location was ruined because of the lack of cleaning. There were dead bugs on the floor upon first checking into the room, and a bed bug was found crawling through the sheets. We left once we saw that. This place needs a thorough sanitation and bed bug exterminator, and then maybe an upgrade in the daily cleaning service. Also, there's no parking. You need to find street parking (impossible) or pay $20 for a garage 2 blocks away. As it is now, you don't want to stay here.

This place is a shit hole. Paid for a studio suite with kitchenette and got a room with a microwave. What a joke... Front desk guy was a total douche bag who gave lame ass answers just so he could finish watching his game. Their description of on site parking is ridiculous. What they should say is "circle around the blocks until you find a metered street parking spot, good luck." Their "free continental breakfast" is not free. There's a sign posted by the elevator that says "$5 before serving yourself".... If I could rate with no stars, I would.

The pictures are nothing like the actual hotel. Came down with a group of girls for a bachelorette party and was unable to get adjoining rooms or even rooms next door. Our room was large with two beds, one being in a separate room and a bathroom. The room also had a sink, refrigerator, and microwave. Basically it had the necessities, which is all I really needed.

The good things about this hotel were the location and the beds were clean. We were able to walk almost everywhere, including the beach. A dead roach was found on the step, which was gross.

Overall I have paid less and gotten better. Location wise this is great and the staff is friendly.

I have no idea how this hotel gets all the good reviews. Based on the yelpers, I booked this hotel, stayed 2 nights and felt betrayed. Stop posting fake reviews!!!

    First of all: pros
The location is okay, but you will see a ton of other hotels much closer to the beach.
The bed was kind of comfortable.
    The bedsheets were clean.
    The staff members were decent.

    Ok. Here are cons.
This hotel is a total ghetto. I was so dissappointed and embarrassed when I found myself walk into the ugliest/dirtiest building in the area.
Still I put my hope high and went into the room. There were 2 uncomfortable plastic chairs, dirty&dingy furniture, tiled floors, a 15"or 17" small tv and run down walls. They all looked depressing.
I paid $150 per night (after tax) and could find a couple of 4 star hotels lower than the price in the area.

The pictures and the reviews completely fooled me.

The location is top notch and the price is too.  It's an AirBNB type place so it has some cool little odd things not found at normal hotels like a bunch of DVD's all with Miami themed movies, a football, several half used bottles of suncreen, beach towels, a beach chair and other stuff.  That's the good parts.  The bad parts will now take on the rest of the review.

1st off there is nowhere to park.  Street parking if you are lucky(I was not) or 25.00 per night parking garage 3-4 blocks away.  No biggie since you are paying a cheap rate for the hotel.  The room is small but has a certain vintage appeal.  I kind of liked it, it felt like I was in Ralph Cramden's apartment in the Honeymooners. I would later hear Norton and Trixie shouting at each other all night(more on that to come).  The bed was small and basically a glorified futon.  I still feel the bars in my back from that night.  I literally got out of bed the next morning stiff in some spots and numb in others.  In hindsight the floor would have been better.

The entire night there was a couple in the hallway screaming at each other. Like "F YOU!!!" then "I love you" in the next breath.  It was comical if I wasn't trying to sleep.  Yeah I know it's South Beach and I should have been out partying but I'm old and wanted to sleep!

The front desk guy was some Eastern European that wished no one would ever come in.  Different guy when we checked out but the same vibe.  It felt as if though some shady shit has gone on here.  Like Dexter may use one of these rooms when he wraps up one of his kills in Siran wrap.  Like Crocket and Tubbs have been on the scene to check out a double homicide.  Ok those are jokes, I never felt scared or anything but it felt shady.

Come here for the location and price but make sure you get drunk enough that you don't feel the crappy bed or hear the jackasses.

This is perfect location, clean rooms.. Nothing fancy but if you're in south beach miami for spring break you will barely spend time in your room anyway! Microwave and mini fridge in our room. ANTHONY was at the front desk and he was absolutely amazing. So nice and helpful in every way possible. He made our stay Amazing!!! Bc of him we will be back. Thank you!
