a poor hotel experience.  hotel is dirty, ashtrays at entrance not emptied, dead plants, staff untrained.  room had many broken items, one dangerous and, while reported early in our visit, never repaired.  very different from usual Kimpton experience.  disappointing!

Great hotel with contemporary furnishings!  I highly recommend this hotel.  The staff is excellent, location is great, the beach is right behind it and it was very clean.  The customer service was phenomenal!  Thumbs up to Jessica, she made our stay very comfortable.  The rooms are standard, but the bathrooms are small.

Excellent service and, as usual, a great Kimpton property. In the middle of it all on South Beach.  Brian is a tremendous Bell Captain and Marco and Chris were wonderful by the pool.  The Asian Fusion food at the property's restaurant was good.  One nitpick and note to Kimpton...smoke free by the pool would be much appreciated.

Awesome new renovations, great new rooms, heavenly comfortable beds, and the staff from maintenance to front desk are just going out of their way to help out. I would recommend to stay. Mario C. The general manager does an awesome job with this new Kimpton Property. I can't wait to come back for my next trip to South Florida.

I have been in love with the Kimpton brand for...probably a decade now.  No matter where, they really never fail.  Their SOUTH BEACH location just increased the heavenly paradise that South Beach is to me. . .

Fashionable. Clean. Envious decor (I want the pillows, couch, lamps, couches, etc.). Fantastic location. Amazing eats. Great pool.  AND THE STAFF - really.  Ben @ Front Desk. Danys in Housekeeping/HH Duty one day  :) Jamie - pool bartender.  Those are the ones whose names I have/knew, but really all their staff were really great.  Super professional but FUN...the way you'd expect/hope SoBe to be :)

I highly recommend this hotel in every aspect.

Thanks, Surfcomber!!!

PS - their outdoor animal decor proved to be a great photo op both for the cute family we saw earlier in the day... AND for my friends and I a little bit later in the day ;-)

5 stars for the best service in SoBe.  The staff went out of their way to find you recommendations, bring you ice, make you a sandwich at 6 AM...  The rooms and pool were all brand new which also helps with the 5 stars but mostly the friendliest staff ever (bartender, concierge, IT guy, bell man).

Amazing location on Collins Ave., literaly across the boardwalk from  the beach! Everything was great when my girlfriend and I stayed (except the weather) The front desk staff was extremely knowledgable when it came to what to do & where to eat. They were 3 for 3 on their dinner recomendations ( 4 for 4 if you count where they told us NOT to go to and we didn't listen) The pool is gorgeous and wasn't too packed on the only sunny day we had! I would have given 5 Stars, but i'm a smoker and could only have cigarettes outside the front lobby near the valet. Other than that it was excellent, and i will definitely stay there on my next trip to south beach.

I didn't physically lodge here... but I can tell you that the space is decadent enough to house & host an outdoor pool party.  It's located on Collins Ave, just one fence away from the ocean front.  Spectacular view ... and one HELL of a pool party.

One of the very first things I notice about any place is how clean an area is when I first step indoors....and I can tell you that it was superbly and crisply clean.... nice yellow mellow tones and a short meandering to the pool entrance.  Yeah, I know... I notice the oddest things.

Chain of Doubletree hotels, not really a big fan,  so it's very unlikely that this would be my top choice, but I'd definitely stay here due to the convenience of the location if prices are reasonable.  After a while, it's all the same anyways.... I mean really, who comes to Miami to sleep?

Great hotel and fantastic location!

It was a toss up between the James Royal Palm  and the Surfcomber. The Surfcomber offered a better weekly rate than the James.
The room was clean and surprisingly quiet. The room overlooked Collins Ave. I wasn't going to spend my vacation looking out  of the window so it did not matter if I had a view of the street or the ocean.

The hotel borders the beach from the rear and Collins ave. from the front.  Lincoln Road is 2 blocks away.
I spent much of the time on the beach so when i got back to the room  around 4 o'clock the room was already made.
The hotel also offers a Deco Bike rental station on the premises.

Unfortunately, the hotels in that part of Miami Beach have rates that change from month to month. My last stay was in December and I was thinking about a return trip in February. The rates for the Surfcomber basically doubled from the December trip.

I may have to shave off a day or two because of the February rates but I will still hit  that  'Book Now' button for the Surfcomber.

Enjoy your stay!!

Best service ever! Wonderful property right in the middle of South Beach. I left my wallet on the plane and didn't realize until the cab driver pulled up at hotel - the hotel immediately paid my taxi fare and checked me in with no problem (luckily they had my credit card info) They have a nice pool area with a walkway that leads directly to the beach. It's an older "art deco" inspired hotel so the rooms are smaller than what some would expect but they are very clean and modern. All employees smile and look you in the eye and go out of their way to help with any requests. Walking distance to restaurants and shops.

We chose this hotel because we do not particularly like staying in large corporate set-ups which are usually underwhelming and overly posy.  I get more than enough of these when I travel frequently on business.  We like hotels with style and character.  And wow!...we got it with the Surfcomber.

It has a great location, fronting onto the beach, and is very close to Delano's and next door to SLS hotel.  There is a really good beach-side pathway to Ocean Drive on South Beach (10 minutes walk), and Lincoln Road is only 5 minutes walk.

There is a really good pool, with fantastic pool guys, particularly the ever helpful and cheerful Chris.  And if you want to lie out on the beach and relax listening to the surf, the hotel has an arrangement with a private beach operator (K17); you can easily get sunbeds and umbrellas.  Again, the K17 staff are very helpful, and if you have a bit spare time and want something just a little more active than lying on a sunbed, ask the K17 guys for a kite, and you can fly it right on the beach!

There were a number of nice activities when we were at the hotel - I can particularly recommend the art deco tour of SoBe (brilliantly and knowledgeably led by the events manager, Chris), and we loved the complimentary glass of poolside wine at the end of the afternoon - exactly the right tone as the light softens, and the clients chill.

This hotel was built in the 1940's in art deco style, and as a result the rooms are pretty small - but not intolerably so.  The bathrooms are incredibly small, but very well designed and appointed; there is no room for two people to stand in the bathroom at the same time.  But we managed very well for 5 days (husband, wife and teen).  The bedrooms, although small are really well decorated, and the beds are incredibly comfortable.

We did not eat in the hotel, so I can't comment on the food.

And lastly, the staff.  My benchmark for staff assessment is the Four Seasons, and sorry FS, but the Surfcomber leaves you standing.  ALL of the staff are just excellent and very, very helpful.

This is a very positive review and rightly so - the only point that could be construed as a negative is the very small bathroom size, but we did not find this to be the slightest problem.

We had a brilliant stay here and I am sure you will if you choose the Surfcomber.

Addendum - when we returned to our home, I found that we had been erroneously charged for a number of items in the Honor Bar in the room - I contacted Julimar at the hotel by email and the matter was fully resolved to my utter amazement and satisfaction within 6 MINUTES.  FANTASTIC!!  Whatever the Kimpton Group have, others need to follow!

Excellent selection of craft cocktails at the lobby bar. Friendly service throughout the hotel. Reasonable rates when compared to the other hotels along the beach. Pool isn't amazing, but the beach access is wonderful.

Just got back from Miami last weekend for a bachelorette party and have been going to South Beach for years and this was my first time staying at the Surfcomber Hotel.  The hotel was clean, centrally located and an all over great experience.  I never write reviews but felt that need to give a very special review to staff at this hotel.  Jenn at the front desk is amazing and was such a help to me and my friends; Marcos out at the pool took care of us every day at the pool and set us up with chairs without even asking; but i have to give Rachel, the cocktail server, at the pool a FIVE STAR rating... she went ABOVE and BEYOND for me and my friends every day at the pool and we never had to ask her for anything, she knew what we were drinking without even asking after the first day there.  She was so helpful and sweet and i told her i was going out of my way to write this review because of her.  I would DEFINITELY stay at this hotel again

This hotel was awful...we got our purses stolen at the pool while we were 2 feet away. The hotel had a video of it happening, wouldn't show us, the police were also not helpful.  Later we saw the man that robbed us and notified the hotel manager and he offered no help. Also our room was infected with bugs. All they did was comp us $150. I would not recommend anyone to stay here....ever.

One of my friends arrived a day before me and sent me a picture.  The only difference between the pics on the website and what she sent me was a few shadows from the palm trees.  It really is as beautiful as their website shows.  We were here in January 2012 and enjoyed our trip.  I am generally a fan of Kimptons, but there were a few things that keep them from getting that extra star.

One night we dropped off food at the front desk for a friend who didn't feel like going out to dinner and asked that they bring it to her room.  When we returned 20-30 minutes later, the food had not been delivered.  This was around 11ish at night.  It seems odd  that they couldn't find one staff member to run the food up in that amount of time.  While some of the staff was WONDERFUL, especially the pool staff, there were others who had not read the Kimpton memo on opening doors for guests and friendly greetings.  Since it hasn't been under Kimpton management that long, I would be willing to stay here again.  The location is AWESOME, the beds were comfy, and we had functional windows that we could open for fresh air.

Oh, the only other negative - the bathroom was ackwardly designed, with a stylish, yet messy sink.

My wife and I stayed here two years ago when it was run by Doubletree.  Now it is managed by Kimpton and they have done a complete facelift of the place since our last stay.  The hotel has the perfect location on Collins Ave walking distance to shopping and dining on Lincoln Road and Ocean Drive.  The only thing that separates the hotel from the beach is the hotel pool and the walkway between the hotels which line Collins ave and the beach.  The staff is very accommodating and so ready to share a conversation with the guests.  Our room was fitted with a very comfortable king size bed along with a nice size flat screen TV.  The baths have been redone as well with a modernized glass enclosed shower that provided a warm shower at all times.  The bathroom sinks have been upgraded as well.  The property has a pool bar which serves on the beach which they call the K17 club.  The hotel restaurant surprisingly serves very good food and they specialize in cocktails with a mixologist on staff.  They even have a nightly wine hour between 5-6:00 PM every evening serving free wine by the pool.  It is also the only hotel which I found to allow you to use the pool as a non-guest if you were enjoying a cocktail purchased at the pool bar.  The pool is also open 24 hours!  Wi-Fi was also provided free! The only negative things that I did not like was the price to rent chairs and umbrellas on the beach.  I feel that  chairs they should come with the room.  $11.00 per chair/each I though was steep.  Aside from that the the bathroom tissue could stand an upgrade.  Did I mention that the hotel staff was the best!

Recently stayed for 1 night while at a convention in SoBe.  The hotel was conveniently located near the convention center and on the beach.

The hotel itself is a renovated art deco place in Sobe.  The renovation by kimptom is quite modern.  The rooms themselves were quite small with tiny bathrooms and the vast majority dont face the ocean (this the fault of the original build obviously and not the renovation).

The pool and courtyard were very green and relaxing and the location was superb.  The reason for 4 stars is that the service, while good, was not quite at the par of a higher level place (not so helpful with dinner reservations, didnt help everyone with bags, etc).  Overall, this is a solid, clean, modern choice with a great location.

We were lucky enough to have one of our monthly networking events hosted by the lovely staff of The Surfcomber Hotel this past May.

This hotel offers a unique and beautiful atmosphere. It was a lovely backdrop for our event. The staff also arranged for live music and delicious signature cocktails and hors d'oeuvres to be passed around to our guests.

This beautiful venue is a great place to host an event or stay as a hotel guest.

Thanks again for your wonderful hospitality!

Super duper friendly staff , clean rooms, beautiful hotel, peaceful setting ... love the back lounge area where you can just pulp yourself on the beanbags and fall sleep in the shade.
we really could not have asked for more.

only thing is there is construction happening next door, you might want to check on that project before you book

We had a great experience at the Surfcomber Kimpton Hotel and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting the South Beach area.

A few of the best highlights:
- We arrived to find a chilled bucket of beers waiting for us with a nice, handwritten note welcoming us to the area.
- Every single staff member working was helpful, attentive, and friendly.
- The rooms were very nice and clean.
- The pool area is awesome and it is RIGHT on the beach. The best of both worlds!
- During dinner at Lantao (in the hotel) the chef actually came to our table to introduce himself and see how our meals were.

Kimpton hotels in general, and especially the Surfcomber really make it their personal goal to ensure their customers have everything they need and enjoy their stay. Thanks for a great weekend!

This hotel is amazing and so accommodating. I stayed there recently for a bachelorette party with girls coming from all over the country. The concierge was very helpful in helping us set up a massage, coordinating with the bride's fiance to send her a bottle of champagne, and just making sure we were taken care of.

Rooms are a bit small, but clean. Convenient location in South Beach. Can't argue with free wine hour at the pool and all of the staff went above and beyond to make our stay amazing and comfortable. Will definitely go back!

I loved this place. If I was magically wealthy and single and carefree, i would spend a great deal of time at this hotel.

Loved the courtyard and pool and accompanying bar. Very lovely and lush and tropical.

Absolutely loved the newly redecorated rooms. Very, very cool. Modern but with an art deco vibe, which of course goes with the whole place. Fun, funky carpet and furnishings. If you are tired (and believe me I am) of the infinite sea of look alike hotel rooms, this is a welcome change of pace.  More than welcome. Lovely.

The staff was awesome. We arrived a bit early for check in and headed to the poolside bar. After we finished our drinks, Meagan (the best bartender ever) called up to the front desk to check on our room. It wasn't ready so they comped us a drink. Hoorah for free beer.

Super super pet friendly. We had our ferrets with us and they were very accommodating. No pet fee either. Meagan said at a recent staff meeting they were discussing the pet policy and and someone jokingly asked if penguins were allowed. The manager instructed them to offer the guest fresh salmon from the kitchen.

Great location. Great everything. Stay here! Buy a drink from Meagan! Bring your penguin!

Place is amazing but was kinda dead when we were there wanted to have dinner on the property and everyone had closed early because it was dead so with all the bars and food option we had to drive to a local dive bar and get food which i must say was good i guess we missed the party.

Honestly, this was the best hotel experience I have ever had. The staff was incredibly nice and helpful. They always made sure I was enjoying my stay. There was always ice cold water, iced coffee, and free wine from 5-6. In addition to that, the staff walks around the pool with frozen grapes, mango daiquiri shooters, and cold aloe towels. The pool staff always found us chairs when we requested and would often times go way out of their way to make something happen. Check-in to check-out, everything was flawlessly executed.

If anybody has ever tried to rent a beachfront hotel in South Beach, you know it's a harrowing experience and most definitely not a cheap one. And there's nothing worse than paying a bunch of money and then being dissatisfied with your hotel. I can't recommend this place enough. From happy hour with the most delicious spiced cider offered everyday, to the heated pool, and the loaner bikes, this place is awesome. The staff is crazy friendly, and really bends over backwards to meet your needs. Keith was the guy who helped us with our luggage & he was seriously awesome. Like an idiot I had no cash on me & was super embarrassed that I couldn't tip him, but instead of being super rude because of this, he was really nice when I told him & he gave me some info about things to do & see but in the hotel & in the city, which I really appreciated. He was hands down the best staff member we encountered in a hotel whose staff is great. The gym is honestly a little lackluster. Basically a weight bench, an elliptical, and 2 treadmills. They all have a personal tv though so that was awesome. The pool was great & staff there was awesome as well. Delicious complimentary flavored water, btw. We had breakfast at the Social, resto on ground floor of hotel, and my French Toast was delicious. My friend's breakfast wasn't great, she had the Frittata, but did I mention mine was delicious? Cuz it was....I will absolutely come back to this hotel next time I'm in town & I'd recommend it to my peeps without hesitation & I love them dearly but my people are picky pains in the ass, so that tells you how awesome I think this place is...

For someone that does not like Miami much I finally had a great experience here. From the time I checked in to the time I left, I was treated with the best service one could ever expect. The rooms were nice but what made the difference was the hotel staff, Serena was absolutely divine and Steve made me feel like I was back in the Rat Pack days with original drinks hand crafted to perfection, everybody was so very friendly and for the first time I really enjoyed staying in Miami.
This is the only place I am staying from now on when visiting Miami.

For the price we paid was a wonderful location and hotel! I would definitely stay there again seeing that it was in prime location!

The pool was clean and gorgeous.

The staff was wonderful and helpful.

The rooms were the right size.  The bathrooms were a little bit of a squeeze but did the job.

The best part was the party stayed outside. The hotel was nice and calm. No bumping music at 4am and no mess in the halls.  The crowd was  a mix of families and young couples and groups.

We loved the easy beach access.

Glad we stayed here rather than some small boutique hotel disaster.

Paradise bottled up in a delightful boutique hotel. The Surfcomber is one of the best hotel experiences I have ever had.  The location is of course the best part: right in the heart of South Beach, steps from the beautiful beach and all that the area has to offer. Rooms: super clean, wonderful bed and great service
Staff: the nicest hotel staff I have ever encountered. Everyone was always smiling, even when I spilled coffee all over the lobby. At check-in we were given all the information we needed to enjoy every amenity of the hotel. Everyone who worked the door was so nice. Always smiling and welcoming us "home".
Pool: huge and so much space to lounge. Great poolside bar with friendly bartenders. Towel service all day and towels always available for a late night swim as well.
I loved being able to walk down in the morning, get a fresh cup of coffee and then be on my way to the beach were we were given chairs, towels and lots of attention! Beach chairs are included in your room rate so we did not have to pay extra to enjoy comfort at the beach. They have wine hour in the afternoon, which is amazing and all sorts of juices and fun extras throughout the day.
The decor of the hotel is different than any other on South Beach. It is modern meets artsy and all their couches and seating areas are so comfortable. Perfect way to enjoy a drink inside.
The hotel also has bike rentals right by the pool. A really convenient way to get around the area and get some excercise.

I loved loved loved the Surfcomber. Will definitely go back soon!

Once again, the Kimpton pulled off another great meeting for me and my group. From the sales process through to the completion of the meeting was seamless.
The accommodations were immaculate, well appointed and comfortable. The front desk was accommodating and soooo friendly! Every request was met with a smile, kind word and a professional attitude that is difficult to maintain in the hospitality industry.
Conducting my meeting was a great experience. Everything was on schedule and what I ordered. The staff overseeing my meeting was professional and seemed happy to be a part of our group. The meal choices were fantastic and the food was amazing...especially considering it was a meeting. No rubber chicken here.
One quick touch that impressed my entire team. When I sent my rooming list to the hotel, one of my guests was being funny and added to special requests, "I would love to have a cute blonde waiting for me". I forgot to erase that comment and upon our arrival, my guest was greeted with a note stating that the blonde would be arriving soon.
when he returned to his room, he found a picture of a puppy, photo-shopped with a blonde wig! It stayed with us the entire time we were at the hotel and during our meetings. Adding to the amazing service, the team was creative and fun!

I was so impressed by the customer service at this hotel.  I just got back from staying at the Surfcomber during my wedding in South Beach, and I cannot recommend it enough.  Every staff member greeted me with a smile and inquired about my stay. When my limo did not come back to get me for my ceremony, they sat me down, put a glass of champagne in my hand, and arranged my transportation.  The pool being open 24 hours was perfect for our children.  I never walked through a door that wasn't held for me.  The rooms were not extravagant but very nice and very clean.  But the service at the beach, pool, and inside the hotel made it a wonderful stay.

The team here at the hotel are amazing.  From the moment I stepped foot into the door, friendly people were there to greet me.  Everywhere I went on their property, I was able to feel welcomed and at home.  I had the opportunity to chat with a few of the staff members, to find out why they have animals throughout their hotel.  The answer was simple.  They want to be different from the other hotels on South Beach, and they want people to feel at home while they stay there.  They definitely accomplished this.

From the complimentary wine hour the hotel sets up for its guests, to the innovate bartenders at the front bar, everyone is knowledgeable, professional, and amicable.  I love how everything is passionate about what they do at the hotel, and the hotel in general.  You can tell that they accomplish the task of people feeling at home, as other guests stop to chat while you walk around the property.

This is a great place to stay, and highly recommended!

The BEST location.  Located between 17th and 18th on Collins is ideal, especially for my first trip.  It gives you easy access to Ocean drive and Lincoln which gives you access to unlimited food and drinks options along with shopping.

Every day they provide free coffee in the lobby and free wine from 5-6.  The free wine was a big hit for most guests in the hotel, and gives you something to do after a day at the beach or pool.

The hotel itself it not huge, which makes it easy to Navigate.  It has a restaurant in the lobby, service stunk on multiple occasions.  The hotel has a nice size pool and also beach access, both serving food and drinks.  The service can be a bit slow, but it is a nice touch to have.  Being an in-touch members gives you free chair and towel service daily.

The rooms were a decent size and clean.  Not much of a view, but it did its job.  The staff was friendly and helpful at all times.

My biggest complaint was the Hotel held funds on my debit card for nearly 2 weeks even though I paid with my AMEX when I checked out.  I called multiple times to complain about this to no avail.  Next time I know better then to give my debit card.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this hotel. We had a girl's weekend here last summer and it was the perfect location and atmosphere for us.

Everyone of the staff made us not only feel very welcome, but made extra efforts to increase our happiness.  I would like to Thank Jessica, The guest services manager personally for sending the birthday girl a bottle of wine to our room, and helping us
Love the quirky upscale boutigue decor.
Love the food at Lantao.

Our only complaint... they need more lounge chairs around the pool. And the maid knocked on our door every morning at 9am to clean.  Seems a bit early to clean.
Otherwise they entire experience was top-notch, and may have spoiled me forever.

Stayed here with a bunch of girlfriends for a bachelorette weekend. What a beautiful hotel! From the art in the lobby to the immaculate grounds, no place was overlooked. The palm trees had orchids tied to each and everyone of them. Both pool with cabanas and beach were beautiful. Service was at the front desk and the pool and beach was pretty outstanding. The front desk missed to call us when our room was ready, they were very apologetic and offered two free dink tickets at the bar downstairs. Both pool and beach attendants were extremely helpful. They will set you up with a lounger and table / umbrella to your preference. This service does come with an additional $20 charge per night, but is very well worth it, in my opinion.
The rooms are on a smaller side, which is to be expected at a South Beach hotel. They are slightly outdated, but are very charming in their art deco way. There were a few issues with our room that are overlooked by the great overall experience I had at the hotel. The beds and the bedding were very high end and comfy. I cannot speak much for the restaurant, as I only had breakfast there. It was very bland and extremely expensive, also to be expected. The bar downstairs was pretty excellent, in fact I had the best Margarita of my life there. Major props to the bartender. The location of the hotel could not be better. Totally central and pretty much walkable to everything that South Beach has to offer. Overall, if you are looking for a very different experience from your average hotel this would be it!

I travel over 300K miles a year, so I've experienced my fair share of hotels.  Unfortunately most of my travels are overseas so I rarely get a chance to stay in a Kimpton hotel.  Whenever I am on the road domestically, however, I choose Kimpton hotels, even if they are out of the way.  The Surfcomber in Miami Beach is just one example why.

My most recent stay was over NYEve 2012.  I first stayed here with a friend a few months ago during the low season.  Because of a problem with other guests during this stay (something beyond the hotel's control), I managed to get a gift certificate for a one night free stay for a future visit.  I fully expected less-than-VIP service on this stay since I was using a gift certificate for the night, and was prepared to accept less-than-average service.  Man, was I wrong.

From the start, at check-in, the service was impeccable.  We were greeted at the door by no less than 3 employees all of whom were eager to assist with our bags and valet parking.  At the check-in desk, the staff was exceptionally professional and friendly, even though they knew I was using a gift certificate for the night.

About 15 minutes later we were greeted in our room by Jess, the shift manager, and Travis and Travis, who brought us our complimentary wine and a personalized greeting card - completely unexpected.

Throughout our stay, the staff, like always, was top notch.  To say the caliber of customer service at the Surfcomber is world-rate is not an exaggeration.  All too often you find employees at boutique hotels to be snobby, indifferent or too busy to be bothered.  That has never been the case at a Kimpton, especially at the Surfcomber.

The rooms are perfect sized, just big enough for 2 adults and 2 dogs, and always thoroughly clean.  The amenities (gym, wifi, concierge) are all top-notch and flawless.  The location can't be beat.  Right on the ocean, within easy walking distance of everything you could want, yet just far enough away from the action to enjoy a cozy night's rest.

Do yourself a favor, if you stay in Miami Beach look nowhere else.  You will not be disappointed.

Fantastic hotel in the heart of sobo - just blocks from Lincoln street and tons of shopping.

Swanky rooms, free wine happy hour nightly, pool service is excellent with copious water availability, magazines and even natural sunscreen!

No loud south beach music blasting poolside here, the music from the neighbors is just loud enough.

We had a blast.  I'll def consider staying here again if I come back to Miami.

The only thing is, we came during the month of March 8-11th and it was $500/night. So pretty pricey.

Perfectly located in South Beach. Spent a decent amount of time looking at properties and it paid off. Much cheaper than other hotels in the area but still had very nice, hip decor and friendly staff. Rooms are nice but small, not bad if you're on the beach all day. I'd definitely recommend it to others for a South Beach getaway. Close to all the action.

Oh yeah...and free wine from 5-6 : )

I absolutely loved staying at the surfcomber hotel, its right off the beach, convenient location near lincoln st. Shopping center, art deco and the party life of night clubs. The staff are amazing at this hotel; the managers alex and david are very helpful and kind. The hostess of their restaurant denise was extremely friendly and made me feel welcomed, btw their food is awesome, had the surfcomber breakfest which was very fulfilling and delicious and you must order the wings, they were glazed with sweet chile sauce that made it taste sooooooo good!!!! They have complementary wine served in the living room every day from 5-6pm, good way to mingle with other guest from the hotel and the most awesome thing that most hotel dont do beside this hotel.... is that the pool is opened 24/7!!!! I got to meet foxi the pool guy, nice person to talk to and made me feel like a queen! They do have pool parties every other week, I was lucky to catch it the last day of my trip. Also, I would recommend checking out the complimentary bike they offer for guests to ride near the beach pathway!!!!

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Kimpton Hotels.  Like all Kimptons, the Surfcomber ha a funky vibe and a fanstatic staff.  Everyone feels VIP at a Kimpton hotel. The Surfcomber is located right on Collins avenue and is a short walk to almost anything you would want to do in South Beach.
The pool here is great, the beach access is great, and the complimentary Happy hour is POOLSIDE.
Some people have rated here as the room sbeing small...HELLO, all SB rooms are smaller than the norm because beachfront real estate is hard to come by.   We had more than enough room in a King size deluxe for the two of us.  We were very comfortable, the rooms were clean and the service was great.

I just got back from six nights at the Surfcomber Hotel and will try to be succinct with my review.
Nice pool and staff and across from the beach. Can rent bikes.
Friendly staff, kudos to service staff, especially front desk and concierge
Nice hotel lobby and bar
Relaxing, outside of Spring Break crowd
Breakfast is reasonable and tasty
Good location
$20 daily resort fee does not include $ 20 beach umbrellas(which you will need!)
Was asked to leave upstairs cabana on my last day because they were having a pool party and I would have to pay for drinks (what happened to resort fee???)
Charge for wifi unless an in touch member. Had to pay for computer in lobby, regardless.
Free coffee until 10 am, but if you eat breakfast, they will charge you for coffee. Seems like a little thing, but coffee is not mentioned on the menu. I ended up bringing my own coffee to the table. BTW, free coffee will stop if they run out close to 10 am.
Room not cleaned for several days. Washcloths forgotten, vacuuming NOT done well.
Bites on my leg( saw bug) and spider on daughter's bed.
Oh yes, they charged me $200 a night more than my cousin who was staying in an identical room. Wouldn't accept AAA. I complained, and they reduced rate for 3 nights
Rooms are small
Don't go to pool hungry..you will wait forever for someone to attend and then forever to actually get meal. Must ask for salt, pepper and ketchup.
Have fun. I don't know if any other hotels are better.

This review is for the Surfcomber Pool parties during WMC, not the hotel or the pool.

I came here for the Loco Dice closing pool party and I must say, our day started off on a wrong note thanks to the bouncers / door people that work this venue. We got the BEFORE 2pm tickets, and we arrive right at 1:45 with an empty line. The bouncer stops us and gets on his radio. I have no idea what he said, since it was in Spanish but it sounded shady as hell. Then he proceeds to hold up the line till about 1:55 for no apparent reason and then finally lets us in.

Once we get through like 5 doors to finally get to the entrance of the pool party at about 1:58PM, the second door person tells us we have to pay $30 more because according to their watch we were considered late. There was no getting out of it, either we waste our $70 tickets or pay a total of $100 to attend one single event. We had to pony up.

(After thought) - At that moment I should've charged that additional $30 on my credit card or atleast gotten a receipt for it. I could've won a claim through my credit card company for this type of fraud. For future WMC I will keep this in mind when venues try to play dirty.

Overall the pool setting was probably one of better ones out of all the pool parties I went to that week. My favorite part was the rave stage setup in the back beach area where there is plenty of lights and a thumping sound system to keep the party going. tINI and Loco Dice were the high lights of the day. I manage to stay about 2 hours of Loco's 3 hour set before I had to get ready for my next party. I would've had a better time if this venue didn't try to rip me off.

One of the loveliest Kimpton properties I've had the pleasure of staying at -- and I've stayed at several. The service is phenomenal, the food and cocktails are great, and the location is perfect. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the walls are paper thin. It's South Beach; you're gonna need ear plugs. But otherwise, this place is perfection.

We scored a deal at this hotel through one of the discount travel websites. And boy, did we get a great deal.

First off, the staff here is incredible. Every one of them is nice and exceedingly helpful. When my girlfriends and I decided to go take a dip in the pool, one fo the staff members went out of their way to get us some beach balls and floating mats without us even asking. Now that's service.

The rooms are on the small side, but they are clean, comfortable and functional. Lt's face it, you're in South Beach so you're probably not going to spend tons of time in your room anyway.

The pool is clean, and the staff is quick to provide towels, umbrellas, chair covers and pretty much anything else you need to be comfortable at either the pool or the beach.

From table tennis to evening wine hours and mimosa weekends there are events throughout the day to engage the guests and make it fun to hang out at this mini resort. Each room even comes equipped with a complimentary yoga mat to go with their complimentary yoga classes. How cool is that?

Defintely staying here again.

Fool me once, shame on you.  Fool me twice, shame on me.  Well Yelp, you have fooled me for the third time.

"4 1/2 stars on Yelp? The Surfcomber must be amazing!" Alas, we were so, so wrong.

The Surfcomber is a much smaller hotel than most of the hotels nearby and lacks many of the amenities its larger competitors have.  The pool is meh, the rooms are quite small though stylishly adorned, and the lobby is very unassuming, even compared to the non-Delanos and Ritzs.  They stake their success on their hip vibe and supposedly amazing service.

Wait, what service?  From check-in, we experienced attitude and a general disregard for satisfying the customer.  The Surfcomber hosts large poolside parties but didn't make their ticketing policy clear.  The lady who checked us in was very condescending when explaining this to us and completely backtracked when we pointed out something contradictory by telling us that we misunderstood her.  Sorry lady, we are neither dumb nor deaf and you were clearly trying to backpedal by making us feel small.

So since we now were not going to the pool party, we were not allowed to go into the pool area, even to pass through to the beach.  Okay fine, but did I mention that no one told us this and we were stopped and treated horribly when we tried to pass through?  They also forgot to mention that the restaurant Lantao was closed the day before and day after for the pool party.  The lady at the front desk told us, "treat this place like your house."  Bull. Shit.

If you want something from the front desk, such as extra towels, don't bother calling it in as they never responded to our requests until we went in person to the front desk.

Also, housekeeping should know when we are checking out via the front desk.  Waking us up in the morning to ask when we are checking out? Seriously?

Did I mention that the hotel was far from full?  And it was not just us and our New Yorker expectations that was dissatisfied with the place.  After we asked for a bandaid and (surprisingly) received it, the man next to us told us that this was the first time they have actually been helpful to any guests during his entire stay.

Perhaps the two saving graces were the man at the Front Desk whose name I can't remember and the man who poured the drinks at happy hour (Chris, I think?).  They seemed genuinely happy and nice and were actually helpful.  Everyone else was condescending and snappy.

For this price, we could've booked quite a few other hotels of excellent reputation, so I don't understand why the Surfcomber didn't try harder to be the best.  Or at the least to be adequate.  Honestly, the service at lesser hotels in the middle of Indiana was better.

So Yelp, I know I should stop putting so much faith in you, but I can't stop.  So, please do not led me astray again?

WOW! 16 girls stayed here for a bachelorette last weekend and we couldn't have picked a better hotel. Aside from the great location, interiors, and comfort, the staff is like no other I have ever seen. They treated us better than when we stayed in a Vegas VIP suite. In particular, Andrew and Foxy (the graveyard shift) went above and beyond to make sure our group had a great time. I cannot wait to go back to Miami and stay at the Surfcomber.

As stated in a previous review, I liked this place last year. So we returned again this Christmas. As my 5 star review would imply, it was even better!! The staff continues to be first rate, from the bell men to the desk staff to the pool staff, all friendly and professional. The rooms remain immaculate and the showers have been updated, resolving a previous minor problem I had with the hotel. A pleasant surprise was the continued presence of a bearded bartender who makes a first rate martini, unlike James Bond, they are stirred not shaken.... I stand converted. Plus he's a great guy to boot. Went to the Loews down the ocean walk for a breakfast, although the breakfast and staff were great, the walk into the facility through the pool area made us appreciate our hotel that much more. Our pool area was calm and serene, a result of the smaller size of the hotel. No rush for poolside lounge chairs, no crowds. Only a very attentive pool staff who quickly set you up with fresh towels and plenty of easily accessible water and other refreshments. As was true last year, complimentary sunblock as well!! With its central location to the strip and ocean, use this wonderful hotel as your home base of peace and serenity. Not too noisy or crowded, this is a first class place to enjoy all that South Beach has to offer. See ya next year Surfcomber!!!

What a SUPER stay. Boutique Hotel with the service and style of more expensive properties that are close by.
Staff was attentive and always cordial. Chris at poolside was there for all of our needs, wants and smiled upon our return every day.
Rooms are a bit small (NYC style) but you should not be in your room if you are in South Beach.
Location location location. Just blocks from Lincoln Rd., Washington and access to Ocean Drive.
I was also here with a group on business. The group staff, George and everybody else were fabulous. They adjusted to all our needs. Whether we had breakfast outdoors or decided to bring it indoors they were very accommodating.
I would highly recommend the Surf Comber property for a personal or business visit again.

I am a Miami native and so I hold any South Beach hotel to very high standards. And I mean VERY high. You heard it here - Surfcomber and Kimpton do it right, kids.

Great location, awesome restaurants and staff.

Do yourself a favor before you leave here. Go to the hotel bar and ask for Kevin. Tell him to make you a June Bug. It'll change your life, I promise! ;)

If you find your way over the bridge to Epic, check it out. It's also Kimpton owned and they have some deals for patrons who are staying at Surfcomber.

Complete thumbs up.

This was my first experience at a Kimpton Hotel and I have to say they set the bar really high. The Surfcomber Kimptons staff was beyond helpful, friendly and accommodating. The grounds are immaculate. The pool was great, very relaxing atmosphere. The complimentary aloe towels, frozen grapes and mango margharita samplers were an incredible treat. My only complaint would be I wish there was music in the pool area. Overall my experience was wonderful. Wine hour every day from 5-6pm didn't hurt either! I'd absolutely go back and look forward to staying at the other Kimpton locations.

Stayed here many times, the location is great. Beach is right behind the hotel with private access to hotel guests. They have have happy hour....meaning free wine.... just like all Kimptons...luv luv luv.. This is a great hotel to stay at while at the beach, it is small, more personal and less hectic than other hotels at the beach. I have always had a good experience at this hotel. It is renovated, but they did a nice job in making it look a little more modern. Great location!

We stayed at this hotel August 2014.  I signed up for it via the corporate Kimpton website and requested a 'king premier' room with garden view and an early check-in.   We had a lot of issues and was overall disappointed, so read on to get a feel for what I experienced...

Upon arrival at a little after 1pm, I was told our room was not ready - even after requesting well in advance an early check-in.  The staff took my phone number and promised to call me when it was ready.  They suggested a good place for lunch and stored our luggage while we were out.  I noted that they placed us as #4 on the list of people waiting for their rooms.  We returned around 3pm and found that the room was not ready yet - and I noticed the waiting list was longer.  What really annoyed me was noticing that 3 other people BELOW my listing were marked off.  So we waited.  In the moderately cool and HUMID lobby.  We finally get to the room @4pm - which is 'normal' check-in - so I guess they don't really do early check in here.

The room - was a huge disappointment.  In fact, I can't say for certain that I actually received the proper room - it was a king, but if this was 'king premier' I couldn't tell the difference.  I had requested a garden view on the website - and we were stuck in a room overlooking Collins St - which had non-stop music, a lot of traffic, people screaming and horns honking at all hours of the night.  The room was clean - except for the stained lamp shade on the floor lamp.  The bathroom was tiny - nowhere near what I would expect for a $300/night room.  The shower lacked a door or curtain, so water often wound up on the bathroom floor.  The tiny bathmat they provided had zero chance of helping.  The sink was basically my arm rest as I sat on the toilet - I could have literally washed my hands while sitting there - which could be a plus for some, I guess. The shower had a hook in it that was extremely loose.  I hung a washcloth on it - which managed to stay there for at least one night - the next day the whole thing fell off the wall and nearly on my foot as I was showering.  To top it all off - the A/C in our room failed on the second night.  The room temperature slowly rose over night to uncomfortable levels.  It was our last night and we were leaving early - so we didn't bother complaining because being switched out to a new room - even if one was available - for a few hours was hardly worth it.

On the plus side - the bed was comfortable and there are plenty of plugs for various devices you may need to keep powered or charged.  The property itself is very well maintained - is very modern and have a very nice pool/cabana area.  Great access to the beach.  The pool is open 24hr which is nice - just remember to grab a towel on your way down as its not obvious where they store them when the pool area is not attended by a staff member.

The staff was a mixed experience.  The front desk was knowledgable about the area - but seemed unconcerned they had people sitting around waiting to be checked in.  I had to continually 'remind' them I was there by asking about my room every 20 min or so - as they were clearly checking in other people while we were waiting.  The doorman - when he's there is generally friendly.  If another staff member is around, he'll be conversing with him and paying little attention to you.  The wait staff at the restaurant - at least in the morning - leave a lot to be desired.  Extremely unfriendly and un-attentive.  I never received the re-fill on my drink I asked him directly for.  But I found this quite common in Miami Beach area as tips are mandatory and put on your bill before its presented to you.  So they have little motivation to go out of their way to be actually helpful and attentive.

Am a bit annoyed that there is a $20 resort fee - if you're not planning on using their beach services or the wine party they throw ever day - its a waste and in some cases negates and savings you may be via AAA or other sources. Besides, shouldn't this be in the price of the room anyhow?  Also - they do 'authorize' (meaning - charge you right then) your credit card for the room when you check in.  So you are essentially paying up front - which I found extremely odd.

Prior to staying at this hotel - I had spent two days up the street at the Ritz Carlton for business.  The room rate was less than $300/night and the room was giant and what I would expect for that amount.  However, due to the Ritz being booked over the weekend, I couldn't stay there for pleasure.  So seeing first hand how extremely different $300/night looks on Miami Beach I *HIGHLY* recommend you look around.  For me, this hotel is worth $150/night at max - at that rate, I'd have been happier.  For $300/night - total rip off.

This hotel is great if you are in Miami and want somewhere close to the party scene and don't mind the noise.  If you're looking for somewhere quiet with beach access, then look elsewhere

Great hotel in south beach tons of free things, free wine hour from 5 to 6, free beach yoga on Saturdays, free beach chairs, free coffee and tea and free wifi if you sign up for their free in touch program. The room are average size for south beach. Great location. Friendly staff, didn't get to try the restaurant. We did however get room service which as expected was extremely expensive. $40 for 2 cookies and a chicken sandwich! Other than that our stay was perfect!

I had dinner and drinks at the bar just before Christmas and the experience was excellent. Our bartender was Carla, she was professional and more knowledgeable in regards to liqueur and cocktails than any person I have every met, what a treat !  I was introduced to a "Proper" Old Fashioned and I was hooked.

I was told they do cocktail making classes at the bar, unfortunately however there wasn't one scheduled during my visit but I highly recommend inquiring if you are planning to stay at the Surfcomber, I am sure it would be amazing.

Excellent hotel! Amazing location, super friendly staff, cool decor, clean rooms.

My friends and I planned a trip to Miami Beach and were displaced from our hotel. The Surfcomber took us in, and it was a blessing in disguise. We were greeted by the nicest people who brought us free wine (happy hour from 5-6pm) and sent a complimentary bottle of champagne up to our room with a handwritten note saying they wanted our stay to get off to a great start after our issues with the other hotel.

Highly recommend the Surfcomber!

This was my first time staying at The Surfcomber. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. The costumer service was phenomenal. I enjoyed the one night stay. The concierge was helpful and proactive. We received spa services in private cabanas while the sunset and listening to the ocean. Dinner and breakfast was great! The location is a little further down from the "Ocean drive nightlife" but not too far to cab or walk (for those that enjoy to walk). There are nightlife options on that end of South beach also. Rooms were smaller than I thought, but well kept with an up to date bathroom. Included in our one night stay was beach access for the both the day we checked in and the checked out. Beach service was pleasantly exceptional. Everything you need provided from complimentary towels and water to suggestions for lunch on the beach. I can't say enough positive comments about the customer service, it is the best that I have recieved thus far.

Lastly, Brad took care of us and answered all our questions about restaurants, etc. in the area.  This is an absolute gem in South Beach!!

Beautiful hotel on Collins Ave. Right in the middle of all the action & fun. Close to the beach, restaurants, shops, & bars. I really enjoyed my stay here even though I was only here for four days.
I love the modern art deco vibe this place gives off. Its beautiful when you step inside everything is clean. All the hotel grounds are spotless.  I really like the way the place is decorated and I really enjoyed the décor this hotel had. Lots of fun, cool looking carpets & furnishings. Surfcomber is very different then the standard hotel look. Which is definetly nice to see. Almost, like a breath of fresh air. Every morning they had coffee & tea in the lobby area. Every evening they had a wine happy hour where you could have as much white, &/or red wine that you wanted. They had different bottles of wine every evening. The pool area had staff that would lay out your towel on your beach chair &  even put a umbrella up for you if you need some shade from the sun. They also have magazines & sunscreen.
They also have these water jugs in the hotel lobby & at the pool where you can have as much fresh cold water that you would want. The jugs of water either have orange and lemon slices in the water or strawberry, & lime slices in the water. I really liked that.
They also are very helpful. If you forgot your toothbrush & toothpaste at home all you have to do is go to the front desk and ask.
All the staff here are very friendly & they have great customer service skills. The rooms are a bit on the small side but, the bed was incredibly comfortable and everything is very clean.  The bathrooms only have space for one person at a time. But, this place is nice and quiet at night if your trying to get some sleep you won't be up all night with everyone else who is partying. Huge Plus ! That was definetly a huge concern I had.
The restaurant in this hotel is called Lantao. I had dinner there one evening & the food was great !  Check out the restaurant reviews on yelp. This is a wonderful hotel that far exceeded and met all of my expectations. I definetly hope to visit again sometime soon.

Solid. I'd bet it keeps getting better under Kimpton. Clean, nice, affordable.

Not as chic as its neighbors, like SLS, The Raleigh, The Delano. It's the more casual, sleepier option. Definitely probably more kids -- more of a family spot -- than those others. And that probably makes the pool a less-fun option if you're single or a couple. But the beach is fantastic.

One con: Room service/dining here is not quite up to snuff with the others. Overpriced, natch, but also very little variety. A solid bar, though.

Holy frijole, Batman! This place is bonkers good! I mean, seriously, incredibly good.

You know when you meet someone who is so nice and welcoming and friendly that they make you feel bad about how you could never reach that level of awesomeness, and you feel a bit bad about yourself? The people who work at Surfcomber are so fantastic, they exceed that level of greatness, and make you feel awesome about how awesome they are--truly in awe of how seriously they take customer service.

My work requires me to travel about 60 nights/yr (plus about 25-30 for personal), and I spend about a third of those with Kimpton (come on Kimpton, open some hotels in Nashville and Atlanta!). I love Kimpton, and the Inner Circle elite status is insanely good compared to my SPG Gold or Hilton Gold.

First things first, Dorgis is the man. I first stayed at Surfcomber in September, and he helped us up to our room, showed us around, and was super-friendly throughout the two days we were at the hotel. At check-in, we got flutes of champagne, which was a perfect start to the stay. Truly effortless. The IC amenity was off-the-charts on our first stay, with a super cool caipirinha making kit, delicious brownies, waters, and my personal favorite, bagel with lox. It pays to do a lot of Kimpton stays!

I stayed again during Art Basel, and the staff recognized me from the moment I stepped on the property. Both stays, I got upgraded to the one-room oceanview balcony suite, which is one of the nicest rooms I've stayed in over the past year. Tons of space, awesome balcony with lounge chairs and view of the pool, etc, etc. I don't know what the price differential was between that and the regular rooms, but I would totally splash out on the room, if you can. The balcony is the best.

The Guest Services Manager Chris is super-friendly and knowledgable about the goings on at the hotel and in the area. The guys at the pool, particularly Chris (different Chris), are also on-point.

In terms of the rest of the hotel, the pool has a great size for Miami Beach, especially compared to places that seem to have pools more for decoration than swimming (I'm looking at you, Hilton Bentley South Beach!!!). The on-site restaurant/bar, The Social Club, is good, but not great. Cocktails are solid, food is above-average, etc, etc, but it doesn't stack up favorably to my preferred spots in the area, including Yardbird and Khong River House.

The beach is great, with solid food/drinks delivery and friendly service.

If you need a quiet spot, the caveat with Surfcomber is that it's right next to SLS, so you're likely to hear the sounds of their club, Hyde, at all hours of the day/night. I'm a heavy sleeper, so I didn't have a big problem with this.

Overall, Surfcomber absolutely nails it on service, facilities, and location. In terms of price, the value is way better than other options in the area.

Rooms were okay but nothing special. Quite small but I guess that's to be expected in Miami? I'm not sure as it was my first time there. The service was really great though. Everyone from the valet to the front desk to the beach side service was really attentive and made the trip a great one. Chase over by the pool really went the extra mile to make sure our group was taken care of. The lobby was also really aesthetically pleasing. As tempted as I am to give this place 5 stars I just can't due to the rooms. They were by no means bad but definitely felt cramped and the bathrooms/showers/tubs could use a little upgrading. Also, at this price point, I feel like wifi should have been included.

I am in love with this hotel. I want to go back to Miami ASAP and stay here again.

From the moment you walk in, each member of the staff is friendly and accommodating. Decor in the lobby is nice, and it's open and spacious.

Take advantage of the wine hour every day! There's also complimentary coffee each morning. Play a giant game of jenga, then lounge by the pool or head out to the beach. Shoutout to the DJ, by the way! Another shoutout to the pool staff who moved chairs across the pool area, set up umbrellas, and laid out towels for us... all with a smile! :)

You can't beat the amazing hospitality, prime location, and overall good feel of this hotel. STAY HERE!

My wife and I stayed here in Aug. 2013, when we were in Miami for a wedding.

We arrive very early, 6:30am, because we had flown in on the red-eye. The staff was there and ready to check us in. They helped us to our room. Upon opening the door, it was VERY clear that someone had been smoking in the room. We went back to the front desk and asked if we could be switched to a new room. As a result of this unfortunate experience, the staff upgraded us to a ocean-front room with a huge walk out balcony overlooking the pool/ocean!

The staff were excellent, as they have been at all the Kimpton hotels we've stayed at. We enjoyed the wine hour, and all the other little touches at the hotel.

It is in a great location, very centrally located. We would definitely recommend this hotel to others visiting South Beach.

We stayed at the Surfcomber August 2014. The place is super nice. You get what you pay for.  Wine social every day at 5pm. Right on the strip, close to everything. Private beach access. Clean pool. I need to save up some more money for next time we come back. Miami Beach is not a budget destination. Haha.

We also liked that we could bring our puppies.  They even let them on the beach. No puppies in the pool.

I had the pleasure of staying in this South Beach establishment due to a friend's bachelorette party. I don't think a better hotel could have been picked.

Everything was phenomenal. The location (I mean, it's on the beach), the staff, the decor (eclectic, sophisticated, and fun)...the list of phenomenal-ness could rival the size of a Tolstoy classic.

The most standout thing was the service.
1. They happily donated a bottle of champagne to the bachelorette.
2. They happily removed several room charges when they learned that 2 ladies of the bridal party had their entire purses stolen.
3. They happily called every hotel in a 2 block radius when they learned that a package that was to be delivered to me was delivered to a different, but similarly named and no longer existing hotel to see of anywhere else had received my package.

They also had all manner of farm animals that were moved daily into various positions (both compromising and not) by other hotel patrons. Fun for all.

Kimpton hotels generally have a great reputation, and this one is definitely no exception. Highly recommended for all of your South Beach accommodation needs.

I needed a last-minute reservation, and saw this hotel on the American Express site - I trusted the Kimpton brand and was not disappointed.

The hotel is a little dated, but very charming and nicely done.  The A/C in the rooms could be a tad stronger, but it was the hottest weekend of the year.  Good service at the beach and the pool bar.

I have to say checking in was great - Linda (I think I got that right?) was so friendly, and made a fuss over me, making sure I had everything I could want and thanking me for being a Kimpton repeat customer.

Always plenty of friendly staff around, reasonably priced for the neighborhood and private beach access.

A five star stay to celebrate a very special anniversary!    Thank you to all involved in making our stay so special, we really appreciate the Kimpton Hotel group and Surfcomber Miami South Beach.

Valet:   We arrived about 6pm Easter Sunday, things were a bit chaotic (always) on Collins Ave, this is a very popular place to stay and valet was busy.   Kudos to the valet staff.  They were so nice and moved everything along efficiently.  In what seemed like moments we were whisked to the lobby along with our baggage and before we knew it we had a glass of Prosecco in our hands.   Overnight parking is $39.

Check In:  We were told to kick back and relax and our things were being brought to our rooms.   The front desk staff (Luz and the other really nice young woman working forgot her name!) were fabulous.  They gave us some ideas for dinner which we used every night of our stay.

Room:   Great room overlooking the pool and view of the ocean (2nd floor).   We went on the private deck to find champagne and chocolate dipped strawberries waiting for us.  WONDERFUL.  Rooms are small, bathrooms are small, I believe the hotel was originally built in the late 30s?

Grounds:  This place is beautiful.  Take the time to walk around and see all of the landscape, flowers, colorful places to sit, cows (yes cows), cabana sitting areas, pool, bar.  Nice!

Resort Fee:  $20 per day ($22.60 with tax).   We had a card that said resort fee includes access to daily activities ranging from mixology seminars, kids ice cream breaks to guided deco bike tours.   We didn't see any of those but we did take advantage of the hotel's art deco walking tour with Chris that we highly recommend.  There is coffee, iced coffee, tea in the lobby area from 6-10am, resort fee includes 2 beach chairs daily.   Rental fee for an umbrella was $19.   At the pool there is sunscreen, fruit flavored iced water available.   From 5-6pm there is a hosted wine hour in the lobby.

Staff:  As we sat by the pool relaxing our first full day a staff member came by and we started talking.  His name is Chris and he is a great asset to the hotel.  He answered all of our questions and gave us some great ideas about things to do and see during our stay.

Thank you again to the general manager and staff at this hotel, you made our celebration so special.

If you're new to Miami (or Miami Beach), the hotel is as perfectly located as you can get.  It's a block off Lincoln Road which is the premier walkable street in all of Miami Beach (moreso than Ocean Drive, imo).  The hotel is a small boutique hotel located right on the beach.  The fact that it's on the beach and right off Lincoln Road makes it a winner in my book.

The pool is a great sized pool and beautifully set up against the backdrop of the ocean.  With your stay there you get 2 free chairs at the beach but have to rent an umbrella for $20 for the day (norm for south beach).  The lobby is very pleasant and there are cold water containers everywhere.  There's also a free wine happy hour daily!   Customer service is top notch.  They even greeted us with a gift amenity of fresh fruit on a plate in the room with 2 bottles of water - a nice touch!

One complaint I have are the rooms.  The hallways to the rooms are very dark and the rooms are tiny.  The bathrooms are very tiny as well.  We were traveling with 2 kids so by the end of the third day when we checked out, we had a claustraphobic feeling.

The final issue we had was that we left something in the room and nothing turned up from housekeeping.  You may think "well, why is that a knock against the hotel?"  The reason is because I know we left more than one item and nothing was found which I find impossible because one of the items was a pair of children's shoes.  I am doubtful they even looked at all.

Anyhow, aside from this unfortunate experience, I had a very pleasant stay.  Customer service was excellent, amenities were good, and location was excellent.

Surfcomber's a boutique hotel situated on 17th that's essentially dedicated to high-pace, consistent customer service. This place holds itself by a thread because of its employees, the best as far boutique-hotel-service in SoBe goes.

The pool is okay, nothing chic (not that I care), but nothing really discouraging from keeping you from booking. Expect a young crowd, with families here and there; expect booze and chicks with bikinis; and anything that's just in between.

Surfcomber -- I just like saying that.

The Surfcomber is a hidden gem in South Beach. It's a comfortable spot to call home amidst the hi-rises and "thump thump" hotels. The location is top notch, so you can venture out and really experience South Beach, and then return to a place where the staff really care about you. Or you can stay at the hotel pool all day, imbibing the most delicious cocktails and happy hour snacks from the outdoor bar.

Many reviewers complain about the size of the rooms, but they can take it walking -- literally. If you are at South Beach, get outside and have some fun. The pool, the beach, the free bikes at Surfcomber make this all possible. Not to mention the great service and food at the restaurant. I can't wait until my next visit!

I'd also like to thank Maria, who checked in to make sure my stay was superb and Darius who Fed-exed me the charger for my Macbook that I left behind. In today's busy world, it is not often that you encounter this type of unsolicited personal attention.

My issue is with how this hotel is run, their policies, the valet price, the size of the rooms, and resort fees. 1. Resort fee is $28 per day, but during a pool party if you have 4 people in a room, only 2 get passes and they other 2 must pay admission even though they are paying to use the resort! So you have to pay a resort fee but only half the room can use the resort? Unless you want to pay the $100 pool party ticket for both other individuals. The manager refused to waive the resort fee even though half our party was not allowed to go to the pool without paying another $200 per day. Valet $50 a day with tax. Great pool, great staff besides the awful procedures, great little restaurant. For $500 a night you'd expect a bigger room then what you walk in to and free use of the pool for all parties in the room or the resort fee waived.

Pool area is very clean and comfortable. The beach is right up front and so clear and sooooo beautiful. The conference room was clean. The staff did a wonderful job keeping up with the drinks and snacks.
There were random farm animal statues everywhere around the hotels makes it every unique.

Watch your credit card statement. My wife and I stayed there for her birthday recently. The stay was fine. Small rooms, but friendly staff. But a month later, a friend, who called the hotel and had them send us a bottle of champagne as a birthday gift during our stay, has been charged somewhere around $700 since then. When questioned, they claim it is charges from us from after we checked out. After checkout, we went to brunch, which we paid for on a card, not on a room charge. It could be legit; just confused dates and confused which card to bill it to, but regardless, it is now going to be frustrating to understand exactly what happened and correct it.

Another secret spot I stumbled upon from the beach walk.  After we left DiLido, we walked a little more and find a cute little, empty, bar in sand by the beach.  I'm all for trying new places, so why not?

They have alcohol infused POPSICLES here! Never, in my life, have I came across one of these babies! At $10 a pop, they were obviously pricey, but nevertheless delicious! (see photo)

The worst hotel stay I have ever had. Hotel was overtaken for a Victoria's Secret party over our weekend stay and so guests were unable to use the hotel facilities starting Friday night and ending Saturday night. They did not warn guests about this in advance - would rather make money from an event than take care of guests who had paid in advance for their stay and so were stuck with no other option on a busy weekend. We could not even get back to the hotel from the beach. Saw an 80-year old man grabbed by security guards for trying to get back in to the hotel. Deafening music tests went off at 9.10am on a Saturday morning. Hotel overtaken by skanky party guests. Valet lost ticket causing me to be late for a business meeting. Booked an expensive oceanfront room and it turns out that there was no view as set way back from the ocean. Buyer beware; can't come up with anything positive.

We're staying at the Kimpton Surfcomber and it's wonderful. It's our first trip to Miami and we're celebrating our 2nd wedding anniversary. When we arrived at our room the hotel had arranged a free bottle of champagne and Brad even set us up with complementary glasses of champagne at check-in! Staff are all very friendly and welcoming and seem happy to be there!

Hotel has a great modern eclectic vibe. Decor in the lobby, grounds, and in the room is a little funky and fun. We were upgraded to a ocean view king and it's bright, airy, and just enough space. Rooms aren't huge but I wouldn't say it's tight either. Space is used efficiently and the hotel location is perfect - right on the beach, short walk to South beach and tons of restaurants and shopping.

There are also a number of amenities as part of the $20 daily resort fee like a wine hour from 5-6pm, tea and coffee until 10am, afternoon iced tea and lemonade, complementary beach cruiser bike rentals, sunscreen at the pool, beach chairs on the beach (but the umbrella will cost you an extra $19 so politely decline if you don't need it!), and a calendar of other free and fun activities. Needless to say I've taken advantage of all of these during our stay. Sunday's at 6 they have a complementary mixology class at the bar. Leslie was so knowledgeable and taught me everything around using fresh herbs in cocktails (muddling, infusing, garnishing) while making me four cocktails to try! LOVE it!

Wifi is free if you join the Kimpton Karma rewards program (which is also free) and they gave me a $10 free mini bar or bar credit. Score!

Valet parking is $40 although you could try and find a cheaper spot in the surrounding blocks. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon and the $16 for 24-hour lot on 16th and Collins was full and with all the traffic we ended up negotiating a 3-day rate in a back lot for $80. Not amazing but not too bad either. There are options!

If you're a AAA member I'd also check out their specials. We're on our way to Peru so are staying Sun - Wed and got 30% off room rates through the Kimpton website.

Extremely pleased with the hotel and our experience so far and would return again!

One of the best hotels I have stayed in all year! The Surfcomber has a terrific South Beach location on Collins Ave and everything about the stay was memorable and wonderful including the service.

First of all, the pool area is gorgeous! The size of the pool is large and is has ample seating and umbrellas. There are pool concierges and wait staff to take care of your every need. The glorious beach is just beyond the pool, about a 3-5 min walk to get down to the water's edge (if you don't get distracted by topless sunbathers along the way, that is!)

Rooms are modest and many have a limited garden view but this is one of those hotels where your room amenities / view / size matter much less than the overall greatness of the hotel. We can't wait to come back for a longer stay!

Great location.
Terrible everything else. Service, cleanliness, and staff are unacceptable.
Waited 30 minutes for menus this morning at hotel restaurant. Called twice for extra towels, finally walked down to the lobby to ask after waiting for an hour. They insisted the towels had been delivered. Um no, they were not. They put the order in again and they never came.
Waited, waited, waited for our room to be cleaned today, kept checking. Finally told the front desk to please have it cleaned while we were at dinner. Bed was made, floor and shower was full of sand and the bed was full of food from my daughter eating earlier.
Staff has been argumentative and seems put out to do the simplest tasks.
There are a lot nicer hotels in this same price point to stay at. I recommend any of them but this one.

The Surfcomber Miami Beach is perfectly situated ocean front on CollinsAve. and within walking distance of most things Miami Beach. It used to be the Double Tree but rest assured it is all Kimpton now.

The lobby is modern, chic and welcoming with beautiful driftwood planks, burlap poufs and comfortable loungers and sofas. Just off the lobby is Social Club the hotel's restaurant.

The valet is fast and efficient and genuinely hospitable. The reception is hard to miss and is just as you enter. It seems to be the policy not to keep anyone waiting and staff will magically emerge to ensure check-in and questions are addressed quickly. There is a $20 resort fee. This takes care of all the towel service as well as two set up ocean-side chairs. Luz is awesome at the front desk as is Nick in operations who really takes care of customers needs.

I stayed in two rooms during my stay. The first was room 208. This is a double room with a view over Collins Ave. This is a small-ish room, facing the front of the hotel with windows that cannot open on to a terrace. This room is noisy. The windows need to be upgraded to block this out - there are restaurants that go on to the wee hours with music as well as the Miami revelers that are having an awesome time on the street. I had to request robes as these had not been initially supplied in the room. The bathroom is also quite small, so while the room does have two beds - it really is a room that can realistically accommodate only 2 people.

Each morning there is complimentary coffee, tea and iced coffee in the lobby. It was national doughnut day while I was there and there were wonderful doughnuts along with the coffee that morning.

The pool is beautiful with chill music through out the day. It has plenty of umbrellas and food service. Marcus took great care of the pool area ensuring plenty of towels and wonderful fruit water. There is a super cool fountain as you enter the pool and a waterfall in the pool that is fun to sit under. There are plenty of chairs for guests though this is low season so this may different during busier times. There is also a nice beach path that runs for miles and is great for running or walking.

On the second level over the pool there are cool tropical vibe cabanas, staff is super hospitable with a high level of customer service ensuring you have plenty of what ever you need.

Think about grabbing a beach cabana - it is a wonderful way to pass the day away just watching the ocean, swimming and sleeping in your own shaded oasis. Vinnie on the beach was very helpful in making the day very special.

The next room I stayed in was 282. It  has its own patio and overlooks the pool and ocean. This is a king room with a much larger bathroom and a patio with two loungers and two chairs as well as privacy landscaping. Lovely room that has a ton of privacy while allowing you to soak up sun and see all the action in the pool.

There is a pool party on Sat from 1pm to 8pm with some great DJ sounds.

The Surfcomber is a wonderful spot for singles and families with awesome water activities and an ocean just a few steps away with staff who are truly dedicated to ensuring a memorable stay.

Stayed here for a weekend with some friends.

The main plus to this hotel is location, only 1 block from Lincoln Road and you can access the beach right behind the hotel. The pool area is nice, but the entire holiday weekend I was there, no one was using the Cabanas, looked like they aren't used very often.

I don't like surprises with hotels. First surprise, there's an extra "resort fee" when you check in ($20 per day). Not a big deal, but you don't have a choice. It includes free coffee in the morning and a beach chair.

The rooms are small and outdated - this is what I really don't like. If I"m paying that much for a hotel, I expect the room to at least feel clean and not be so tiny! I asked them to replace the towels right away because they didn't look clean, probably been washing the same towels since 1999!

The cleaning staff will knock on your door early in the morning if you forget to put the do not disturb sign up. This happened on checkout day... we were already confirmed for late check-out, why you trying to wake me up!

I really liked the location, but I would search for more modern hotels for a similar price.

We really enjoyed our time at this hotel. We arrived from the airport around 11AM and Alex at the front desk checked us into the room early so we got to enjoy the entire day on South Beach.

We got a room with a double bed and it was enough space for me and my friend. It might get a little crowded if 4 people were to stay in that room, but considering you don't spend any time in the room it wouldn't be a deal breaker for me.

The bathroom was small but functional and worked really well for us. The shower was really unique with a very large head.

There was a dresser which I used for my clothes and a smaller closet which my friend used for his clothes. We did not have a good view - just a visual of another hotel, but that did not affect our trip since we basically only slept and changed in the room.

All the staff we talked with were extremely friendly and always helpful. There was free coffee in the mornings which was good, but only hot coffee was available.

We had a lovely experience at this hotel and would recommend it to a friend. No complaints

Great little Bohemian type of hotel in a great area.  Friendly staff, clean, everything you can come to expect from a SoBe hotel.

The room was initially quite clean but the cleaning people failed to come until after 4pm one day.  I'm usually used to that being serviced between 11-3 in most hotels, no biggie, but slightly annoying when we had plans that day.  Also, they never refilled our tissue box.  I'm not sure why that was.

Very friendly and courteous.  The pool and beach staff were especially helpful in getting us set up by the pool and at the beach.

I took my girlfriend here for dinner (the Social Club) one of the nights we stayed.  The food was decent but very overpriced.  Their happy hour specials were way better.

Also, I'm not sure where the wine happy hour was...  Was it inside?  Outside?  We couldn't figure it out.

Stay here if you can get some sort of discount.  I used my corporate discount and my rate was half of the advertised rates.  For the corporate rate, worth it.  Otherwise, stay at the Delano or Fountainbleau for a few Benjy more.

No real views from the rooms that we could see.  Not worth spending more for better views as I don't the hotel faces the beach all that well.

I'll begin my review with an apology to the exceptional staff at the Surfcomber for my 2 Star review. Alex, behind the desk, Sean at the pool and Dorgis at the entrance were wonderful. They are however, only the people who's names I remember. In reality, the staff simply could not have been better, friendlier or more accommodating. The hotel was also beautiful. The room, while fairly small, was well appointed, modern and clean. The restaurant was also quite nice with a lobby that was spacious and visually striking. Pool was clean and there were plenty of chairs, cabanas and towels both there and at the beach. Again, service was attentive and friendly but never over bearing. Clearly, whomever does the hiring for Kimpton knows what they're doing and does their job incredibly well. Since this was the fifth time I had stayed at one of their properties, I knew what to expect and up until this point, I wasn't disappointed.

Selecting a hotel in South Beach during the grueling weeks of Spring Break can be a crap shoot. The properties can only go so far in creating environments conducive more to families and people who perhaps don't wish to drink themselves into oblivion and party their asses off. Money is also a factor to consider. Higher prices generally act as a filter, keeping away the riff raff and indeed, at the Surfcomber upon check in it seemed that my plan worked flawlessly. Not one drunk teenager at the bar, no one screaming at the pool.  I breathed a sigh of relief and figured if my stay was going to be as pleasant as anticipated, I would return in a couple of weeks for a few more days.

Had I checked out on Friday, this review would have been glowing but on Saturday Kimpton did something so stupid that it almost defies description. They hosted a free Victoria's Secret Pink Spring Break Party that effectively closed the pool, woke 1/2 the hotel up at 6AM with sounds of screaming work crews and obliterated any possibility of the day's enjoyment for any of the hotel guests, the vast majority of whom were families with children. This was stupidity on a mammoth scale and I fail to comprehend just how inept management had to be in order to think this was a good idea. Getting through the hotel or to the beach was a nightmare. In order to accommodate those of us who did not want to participate, they graciously offered to bus us to another hotel's pool. Really?

This all came as a shock and was never mentioned when I booked my reservations last week. It should have been made abundantly clear over the phone within the first minute. Instead, they waited until check in to inform me that there was an "event" on Saturday. On my final day of vacation, I was unable to use the pool and had to wade through a group of 2500 screaming college students to access the beach. I checked out early and left.

A hotel, any hotel's primary concern should be their guests. It's hospitality 101. It's how reputations are made and loyalty is cultivated. It was painfully obvious to anyone staying at The Surfcomber this weekend that management cared much more about profit than their guests. I can't possible conceive of anything they could have done to more effectively and purposely torpedo my vacation. Even if the room was free, I would have chosen to stay elsewhere. In the future I certainly will. Epic, epic fail and the single biggest disappointment I have ever experienced on any vacation in my entire life.

Best bar in SoBe. Brian is an amazing bartender. He can not only make all the classics but you can name a couple ingredients and he'll come up with a cocktail that has them as ingredients. Specialty ice as appropriate for the drink.

Great service, great drinks. Usually not very busy because it's not directly on the beach, but if Brian is working, this is the best place for cocktails in Miami!
