History

Established in 1942.

Built on Miami Beach in 1942, The Betsy Hotel Ross stood out all the more for its stark yet graceful contrast to famous architect L. Murray Dixon's Art Deco oeuvre.  After a complete refurbishment in 2009, The Betsy Hotel's exterior stands as the lone surviving example of Florida Georgian architecture on Ocean Drive. Contrary to typical colonial design, the interior design is bright, open and connected, and Dixon took liberties with proportions while interpreting the colonial form. In that slight re-conceiving of textbook colonial, Dixon created not an opposite that didn't fit, but rather a counterpoint that did then, and still does.

Definitely a classy and pleasant experience given the fact that this hotel is right smack on the strip in South Beach. The rooms are extremely tasteful, the staff was helpful and the colonial vibe was much needed in a sea of seaquins and tatoos usually strolling on Ocean. I would stay there again and would enjoy it.

I stayed at The Betsy for 3 nights/4 days in April for a mini-vacation.  Overall, it was a really good experience and I would recommend this hotel to others.  Here are the positives:

- Fantastic location - far enough from the Ocean Drive douchery hotel and restaurants (and there are many, many, many of them), but close enough to walk by the douchery to get a good laugh.  I love that The Betsy feels very private in comparison to the other hotels on Ocean Drive
- BLT Steak - need I say more?  Ate here one night during my trip and the food was just phenomenal!
- Amenities - Frette linens (these are the type of sheets that cost $200 per sheet) and the bed was outrageously comfortable.  I slept really well every night.  They also provide you with chairs and towels for the beach (but do charge a $30 resort fee for that per day), wi-fi, cable, the other basics are all there
- Decor - very chic and beachy.  You feel relaxed the moment you walk in.
- Rooftop deck - great views, you can lay out up there, and they will bring your drinks to you!  Yay!

Now for the negatives:

1) I got into town on Day 1 around noon.  I didn't expect to check in at that time since check-in is technically not until 4pm (which is a little on the late side), but I let them know and I would say 90% of the time I have ever requested an early check-in at any hotel, they have accomodated me.  I didn't get to get into my room until 2:30 that day.  That was annoying.  You cannot tell me that even though check out is at 11:00am, a room wasn't ready (or that they couldn't get it ready) any sooner than that?!  If I wasn't paying anywhere between $350-$450 a night, this wouldn't have bothered me as much.  But for that kind of money, yes, I expect to be accomodated with requests like that.
2) Bartenders at the Lounge Bar in the hotel - they are kind of assholes.  And by assholes I mean they apparently don't like to make or serve drinks.  They just like to do bar prep all day (cut up some fruit, refill olive bowls, stock up the beer and wine, etc.).  I literally went there every day to have some afternoon drinks, got the same bartender(s) just about every time, and had the same experience, so I know it wasn't just an "off" day.  I had to flag them down to get a drink (umm, even when I was the only person at the bar) and they never, ever ask if you want another drink, a refill, anything.  Instead, they walk by you about 10 times, look at your empty glass and just keep on their merry little bar prep way.  Anytime I wanted another drink, I would practically have to lay across the bar to get their attention.  WTF is up with that?  However, I will say, they have some signature drinks and everything I had was good - I was particularly fond of the Dark & Stormy.  To sum it up - drinks good, bartenders bad.  Very bad.

The Betsy is a unique hotel.  It's very well done - and you are definitely paying top dollar, but after walking by other hotels in the area, I have to say - it definitely seems worth the money.

The Betsy hotel is one of a kind. It was re-modeled a couple of months ago so we were the second guests to stay in our room. Cozy and luxurious. Very elegantly decorated. I loved the behind-the-mirror lcd screens in the bathrooms and the ipod/iphone speakers in the room. The staff members were knowlegable and friendly. They recommended the best places to go to in South Beach from clubs to restaurants to beaches. I particularly enjoyed their free wine tasting events. Great wines.

It's located on Ocean drive so it's right across the beach. Makes it a very convenient location. It's also a very short walk from most of the good restaurants.

The Betsy is the first 5 star hotel with a 5 star restaurant (BLT Steak) that I've been to. Excellent food. I recommend the dry aged rib eye steak.

I cant wait to stay there again...

If absolutely nothing else,  anywhere with BLT Steak of Prime automatically is wonderful!  The hotel itself is beautiful!  The concierge, Rio, is a dream come true.  Above and beyond all else, the Betsy is very generous,  having just hosted a benefit for Hedge Funds Care, an organization for the prevention and treatment of child abuse.  I will absolutely be back to the Betsy!

I gave it 3 stars because it's on Ocean Blvd and I didn't contract herpes or Hepatisis C from their beds (I contracted it from the $8 hookers waiting at my front door).

But I digress & itch.

It's a hotel on Ocean Blvd that's affordable and semi-clean.  And by semi-clean I mean the stains on the sheets are barely noticable.

I would stay here again...

This last weekend I stayed at the Betsy Ross and I had an absolutely wonderful experience the hotel staff was very accommodating and pleasant at the start of each day I would go over to the beach and I was greeted by some very nice helpful group of young people, Jasmin and Lesly the girls in the booth greeted me with a great morning and got me signed in quickly and when the beach attendants came up to set me up they introduced themselves as Zack and Calvin they mad small talk with me as the efficiently took care of me they come by and ask me if I needed anything. At the end my brief beach relaxation I would go back to the hotel and lunch which was scrumptious. I absolutely loved my stay there and the way I was treated so I would most deffinately suggest my friends stay there and I my self can't wait to go back.

I didn't stay here, but I was fortunate enough to attend a party at the roof top bar for the Food Network during the South Beach Food and Wine Festival. The drinks were amazing and the view from the top of the hotel is incredible.

The crab claws were great and the service was spot on for a hotel on Ocean Blvd. All in all the roof top bar was amazing and the atmosphere  and views were great.

Very nice hotel and views.  Unfortunately the staff at the hotel helping us with airline check in made a mistake and we had to get to the airport an hour early, forcing us to miss breakfast.  Very bummed about that. Mentioned this when they asked how our stay was and there was no apology.

The hotel is just beautiful...classy and clean with a boutique feel even though it's quite large.  We had our 9 month old son with us in the suite, and after check in, the hotel immediately brought up a mini white terry cloth robe and organic baby soaps and lotions.  I almost died - it was so cute.  We had a beautiful room with two beds in one room and a pull out sofa in the sitting room which my mom slept in.  They don't get 5 stars though because my mom fell through the mattress and ended up hurting her back when she fell on the floor.  Darn sofa bed was broken.  When I notified the front desk the next day, he gave me a little attitude for not alerting the staff when it happened.  It was 3 am and I wasn't about to call hotel maintenance at that hour especially with a sleeping baby.  He didn't seem to like that explanation and didn't offer any kind of resolution or even asked how she was doing.  I realize staff come and go, so Betsy still gets 4 stars from me.  The front desk guy gets minus one star.

We stayed here a few summers ago.  I have never had a worse experience at any other hotel any where else I've traveled in the entire world.  The person at the front desk was impossibly rude.  Our room wasn't ready until after 5pm.  After we finally were allowed to check in we proceeded down to the pool where, not long after we got there, a couple began having relations in the water. The rooms on the second floor were blasted with music from the bar until after 11pm.  Stay any where else but here.

We loved the location and the suite we had overlooking the pool was enormous.  We are planning on coming back to south beach but we won't be returning to the Betsy.  While a pleasant place, the room smelled of smoke, which we asked them to address and they ignored it. The room shower (room 105) is open concept, so you're cold and end up with a wet tile floor.  We didn't get turn down service and we didn't get ice.  Finally the room was noisy with what sounded like a tap dancing convention on the second floor.   The price is too high for missing so many details.  Sorry Betsy. Not good.

Cheers to a job well done Betsy Ross, this place has thought of everything. Being a resident of Miami Beach, I had never stayed there, UNTIL last night. I recommended The Betsy to all people coming in because of its amazing location, uber chic decor (picture David Bowie and Chateau Marmont, but Key West Style), and incredible philanthropy programs, however having just stayed there, I must say it is deserving of the highest star rating. Down to the last detail, they have it all. Dylans Candy, Soft batch cookies, smoked almonds, crazy good products (Malin and Goetz), all the technology you could ask for and a truly expert staff. One thing I would like to point out, that not many people know about is how much they give back to the community of Miami Beach, offering their space periodically for free to charities.

I love this hotel. I think it is one of the cutest hotels in South Beach. It's warm and inviting while still having the right amount of South Beach chic. The hotel bar is divine (part of BLT). I had one of the best cocktails I have ever sampled at the lobby bar: Hemingway's Daiquiri.
Valet is $20 and you can leave it there as late as you need to, the front desk will fetch the keys for you.

Pros: location, BTK steakhouse, newly renovated.
Cons: the rooms are quite small. I was in a suite and it was tiny. No tub in the bathroom. The pool area is small and enclosed and the hotel has no views or balconies. The phones were broken and the answering service didn't work and the remote control was out of batteries. This took 1 entire day to fix.  Lastly, the staff is minimal and when there is more than one guest checking in you have to wait for the one bellhop to bring your bags, check in ur car and anything else you might need. I liked the hotel but they are too overwhelmed to provide good service.

We had our corporate party here back in Feb 2012 and I must say it was an excellent experience.The party started at the roof top overlooking Ocean Drive for cocktails and bar snacks. Then dinner at BLT. The food was amazing!  Started off with freshly baked house bread and tuna tartar..wow! My advise, use tuna tartar with bread as a filling..you wont regret it :) Then the seafood sampler came and the selections, oyster, shrimp, ceviche, are fresh as the Keys. Our main course was the filet and was cooked to perfection. Crusted and melts in your mouth. So back to the suite after dinner and still couldn't get over of how much room we had. Marble bathrooms with double lcd screens built inside mirrors on double sink, sep living room, corner ocean view, timeless decor and black out classic wooden shutters. Oh, there's also a walk in closet. We loved that night so much that we came back 2 weeks after just to stay at the hotel and have another fabulous dinner!

There are no words for our wonderful experience here!  The staff is beyond kind and helpful; the amenities are top notch; the suite was a dream; the pool is phenomenal; the roof top lounge and bar is perfection; the restaurant (BLT) is damn delicious; the downstairs lounge is totally cool and trippy; the location is prime; the reserved beach area is luxurious.  In short, everything about this hotel is wonderful!  Do yourself a favor and stay here--it is not one bit cheesy like the rest of South Beach can be.  It's just, really, the best hotel in Miami!  Bravo, Betsy!

Absolutely loved the look and feel of this hotel, very chic and sexy decor with a hint of southern charm.  Service was top notch and housekeeping kept the towels well stocked in our room.  You get an unobstructed view of the ocean from the roof deck.  Another added bonus is having a tv in the bathroom mirror! I will miss having a tv and being able to listen to the news while I shower!  

However, we also had a roach problem in the bathroom.  Management was very apologetic but am not sure if this is a one off incident or if it's a recurring problem for them.

What a fantastic hotel for families and couples, alike!

We loved our stay here...every moment.

The room was large band perfect for our family, it was clean and the service was attentive.

The bellman service was very slow, especially getting our bags to our room.  I wasn't very clear why.  

Our view, however was not the greatest view ever.  But we truly appreciated the beach, the staff and the room.  We would stay here again.  It was also the only place on Ocean Dr. that did not heckle you.

A luxury breakfast like nowhere else.

Let me start by just saying that I've never spent a single night at this hotel. Rather, I have for several times indulged in what I believe is one of the very best breakfasts around.

Expensive? Very. Totally worth it? Oh yeah!

The menu seems quite plain and there might me this inclination to order more than one dish. But no matter how hungry you think you are, don't do it.

The servings are humongous and very ellaborate you'll be full half-way through it. The service is excellent (gorgeous looking girls!) and the ambiance divine.

Don't go through life without having breakfast here at least once. And bring a friend.

This hotel has a perfect location. In the middle of everything in South Beach. Located in South Beach at the North end of Ocean it is close to all the major restaurants, bars, nightclubs, Collins, and the beach. The rooms are very clean and Miami Chic with a white Art Deco archeticture. As for the rooms...the bed is very comfortable, cool Malin and Goetz toiletries and I love the TV inside the mirror in the bathroom in the rooms. Scared the crap out of me but cool. They also have a BLT restaurant on the first floor. Its directly accross from the beach so its very convenient after spending a day in the sun.

I knew I should have booked my own room but a friend recommended booking through his travel site to get a better rate. While I certainly saved $$ booking through his site, I can only assume that booking that rate is why I was given one of the worst rooms in the hotel, 116, even though I had emailed the hotel prior to my arrival and requested a quiet room (as this was my last vacation before a surgical procedure).

The room overlooked a scenic alley where I was awoken every morning by the cacophony of garbage trucks/pails and the shower had one temperature, scalding. Not very peaceful or relaxing. Also, during my stay the hotel was in the midst of putting up some new artwork in the hallway. It was lovely to hear the banging of nails going into the wall right outside my room for two days.

The hotel itself really is beautiful and in a fantastic location. The restaurant is top notch in terms of food and service. Marco, one of the managers of BLT Steak, went above and beyond to compensate for the bones I found in my Dover sole. Yes, I do realize that fish have bones, but for $50 I expect the filleting to be properly done.

The drinks at the bar were fantastic. I ordered the "Mr. Black" daily and I would have continued my 2-4 drinks per night at the Betsy had the bartender not made the egregious choice to provide me with a drink that was missing one of its key ingredients without informing me. For $15 a drink, plus an 18% gratuity, please give me the choice to change my order if you cannot properly make my drink. Needless to say I did not drink that drink and as no offer of a substitute drink or refund was offered (he did say sorry), I subsequently chose to have my drinks elsewhere.

I will not even delve into my checkout experience. Suffice to say that I was unceremoniously thrown into a cab, albeit very cheerily by the hotel bellmen, when I was not ready to leave.

Could it be that paying a cheaper rate was what got me a room in a sub-par location and that somehow I was marked with an invisible "scarlet letter" during my stay? Given all of the other glowing reviews, it certainly seems plausible. However, if that is the case, the hotel should err on the side of caution going forward. You never know who your "value paying" guests are or who they might know.

To be fair I do want to mention that I never lodged a single complaint with the front desk or hotel management. I'm low maintenance and I wasn't looking for any freebies. I simply made lemonade with the few lemons tossed my way.

Saturday was my bf's birthday so I decided to do something special and booked a room at the Betsy.

While checking in, the girl at the front desk, Amanda, noticed our Miami address and inquired as to why we were there.  I told her it was for my bf's birthday and she said, "good to know" and smiled.  Hmmm.

The room was small but beautifully done and the bathroom was equipped with a TV in the mirror, walk in shower, and Malin + Goetz toiletries. Very nice!

Within just a few minutes, Amanda called the room to make sure everything was okay. No problems here.

We took full advantage of the lounge chairs on the beach and the deck on the roof of the hotel. Amanda had actually mentioned that the spa was up there and we got excited, thinking she was referring to a hot tub. Not the case, oh well. Silly us!

As soon as we got back to our room, there was a knock on the door and we received a complimentary bottle of prosecco (which they were selling  for $60 at BLT downstairs), dessert and a hand written card for the birthday boy.  Worthy of an extra star right there!

Had dinner at BLT and went out, partying into the wee hours of the night/morning.

We asked the guy at the front desk if it would be possible for a late check out, he smiled and gave us a 2:30 checkout at no charge!  I would have been willing to pay, so that was the icing on the cake!

It was one of the best nights of my life and the Betsy played a big role in that! I highly recommend!!

5 star hotel when compared to other boutique hotels. Perfect location. Beautiful views. Great toiletries. Great service. They have it all (with the exception of a hot tub). We loved this place and will definitely stay here next time we visit SOBE. Rooms are all white, clean, and nicely lit. We appreciated the attention to detail that was evident in this hotel. Very impressive. Will return. You cannot be disappointed with this place.

My girlfriends from college and I get together at least once a year to see each other and recharge.  Normally we meet up in one of our hometowns, but this year we decided to go someplace new to all of us.  We ended up here at the Betsy and we had an AMAZING experience.  The hotel is beautiful -- a completely remodeled Art Deco building right smack across the street from the beach and Lummus Park.  The location is perfect.  The staff are amazing -- from the guys who open the main doors for you every time you come & go, to the front desk staff (they even printed my boarding pass for me on my way out), to the housekeepers -- everyone is there to make sure you have everything you could possibly need.  Lorrain was the housekeeper taking care of our room and she was so sweet, checking in on us to make sure we had enough towels and robes and toiletries & stuff.  The rooms are beautiful and modern, and the beds are really comfy.  Shit, I'd stay here just for the shower stuff alone!  Normally I don't use hotel toiletries, but the shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and lotions here are Malin + Goetz which, if you are familiar, are incredible products.  The pool area is also kept nice & clean, and the lounge chairs are comfy.  The citrus-flavored water is refreshing and perfect.  And the roof lounge is fucking awesome.  Oh, and free WiFi  :)  I can't say enough about this place....the girls and I have decided we're going to make this a new annual tradition.

How do I describe the Betsy Hotel...well just to be matter of fact it was a wonderful experience, and I like it more than any other hotel I have stayed at on South Beach.  It is a boutique property on the North end of Ocean Drive (the good part) and it is beautiful inside and out. Classy beach chic with an  almost old world glamour.  Amazing lobby bar with killer live entertainment most evenings.  Perfect location.  Only 61 very special and unique rooms and suites.  I stayed in a one bedroom suite with separate living room (not on the ocean side). The staff as a whole and individually were beyond friendly, professional, and made me feel like a celebrity the entire 5 night stay. The suite was gorgeous suite had beautiful finishes, from the ultra comfy beds and beyond cushy amenities in the bedroom, to the large couch and chairs in the living room, to the glitzy bath with glass steam shower and televisions built into the bathroom mirrors.  Th  More than any human being needs - even one trying to forget about life for a few days.  Everyone was so gracious and kind to me - I cannot stress that enough.  No attitude here. Very accommodating and VERY relaxing yet upscale and close to perfection.  AMAZING rooftop deck overlooking Ocean Drive and South Beach. Easy beach access with covered chairs, towels, and umbrellas provided.  A great place to tan, have cocktails and of course nearly half of the rooftop was dedicated to spa services.  These included facials, massage,out door mani/pedis while staring at the ocean, and even medical spa treatments (botox, juviderm etc).  There was always someone there when needed but no one was ever pushy.  And as a guest, you feel very special.  Very relaxing yet ultra professional, and more than every detail covered.  I can't say enough about this hotel - it makes staying at the much larger Ritz- Carlton SOBE seem impersonal and something I don't want to do again.  The only suggestion I would have for someone wanting to stay at The Betsy is to book an ocean side room - not just for the obvious benefits of views, but because my suite was on the street - and although it would have taken the Apocalypse itself to wake me most mornings, you can hear trucks rattling through.  I was on the 2nd floor so maybe that was part of the problem - although there were only 4 floors.  I wouldn't say this was much of an issue and that although this was only a 25 min drive from where I live - it was like a  full blown vaca that most people would fly forever to get to.  A++ I won't stay anywhere else in SOBE again!

The Betsy Hotel in Miami Beach, FL is TOP NOTCH.

My girlfriend and I visited The Betsy at the beginning of June. We stayed for five days and loved every bit of our visit. We stayed in the "Classic Suite" on the second floor. (There are only three floors I believe.)

We flew Southwest (which doesn't fly into Miami) into Fort Lauderdale, FL. I hate the Fort Lauderdale Airport Shuttle Service. To take a shuttle to Miami from FLL, it's around $25 a person and you might have to wait up to 30 minutes! The car service (Lincoln Town car with driver) is around $75 (but you should tip as well) but you leave right away. So getting to and from Miami Beach if you fly Southwest is a PAIN, just FYI.

As soon as we arrived at the Betsy, we were greeted with the employees taking our bags and helping us get checked in. One employee, Micheal, helped us out by giving us a tour of our room, getting us ice, etc etc. He was extremely helpful and a nice kid. The concierge and front desk are extremely nice and helpful, and the housekeeping staff cleans your room like clockwork. If you need them to come back, just tell them a time and they can do it. Great staff at the Betsy.

The pool is quaint, but nice. Towels, chairs and water (to drink) are all at your mercy. Very little sunlight and it closes at 8. But if you're in Miami, GO TO THE BEACH.....

BLT, the restaurant in the hotel is another story, catch my review on that later.....

The Betsy is literally a two minute walk to the beach. We got an "all inclusive" package through Jet Setter, so we were set up with The Boucher Brothers as our beach service. They set up beach chairs for you, get you towels and umbrellas. This staff is very nice and helpful too. Great experience with them all around.

The ONE and ONLY gripe I had - our room was right near where the hotel had shipping and receiving. We were woken up by a truck backing up (ya know?! BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP!) at least 2 out of 5 days. Now, if you're an early bird, no problem, you'll be up and at 'em before these trucks get there. Since we were on vacation, our schedule was: wake up at noon, go to the beach at 12:01, so these trucks were our alarm clock.

Overall, great experience here. When we come back to Miami Beach, FL. We will be checking in here!

the only reason this hotel doesn't get that coveted 5th star from me is due to the fact that the wifi in our room was spotty at best. my girlfriend had to conduct a Skype meeting with her client and we had to plug into the dreaded ethernet cable. The Horror... but seriously folks, this hotel is otherwise top notch, the rooms were clean and cozy and really comfortable. the staff was super helpful, Emmanuelle at the front dest was a champ. the food is delicious and the bloody mary's are a must. its perfectly located on 14th and Ocean. cant beat that. will definitely be back to The Betsy Hotel.

This hotel was awesome!!! I mean, there's a TV in the mirror of the bathroom, how cool is that?!

The hotel is gorgeous, the staff is super nice and helpful, it really was a wonderful stay! The rooms are a tad on the smaller side, but if you're only staying for a few days it's not really an issue! The pool is in the middle of the hotel so it's pretty shady and therefore it was pretty chilly in mid-December, but other than those two small things, it was outstanding! I loved the ambiance, the bar, the lobby, the restaurant, everything was so awesome! And it's location can't be beat!

Make sure you try the restaurant too, BLT, regardless if you stay there or not, it's outstanding!! I would absolutely stay here again!!

One of the best hotels we have ever stayed in. Perfect location at the top of South Beach with easy access to the beach including complimentary padded lounge chairs and an umbrella. The hotel was beautiful. Loved our room. It was on the small side but I was expecting that for a hotel on the beach. But it was just perfect for me and my husband. The shower had a rain shower head and there was a tv in bathroom mirror. Loved our room decor as well as the lobby decor. There was comfy outdoor seating overlooking ocean drive with heat lamps making it more comfy at night. A perk I wasn't aware of when I made the reservation was a Starbucks literally 30 steps from the lobby. We rented a car for the long weekend but we ended up walking everywhere. The roof top lounge was breathtaking. It was gorgeous in the afternoon because you overlooked the beach, but at night it was really relaxing looking at the stars and the boats out on the water. The staff were amazing, everyone was just so nice and helpful. The night my husband and I checked in they sent up a wonderful fruit and chocolate mousse cake from BLT for my birthday. My mom also called the concierge before our trip and there was a beautiful tropical bouquet waiting in the room for us. The room smelled wonderful. I unpacked our clothes this morning and the clothes smelled just like the hotel room -- so good.  I can't wait to go back.

This hotel is gorgeous! Service is fantastic. The rooms are a bit pricey so if nothing else, stop in for a drink. They were hosting a cigar and wine tasting during the SOBEFWF (food and wine festival) and the rooftop location was beautiful. It almost makes me love Miami.

If I could put a 0 star, I would. Where do I even begin? They didn't carry our bags into the hotel, we had to carry them only to the second floor, thankfully. The hotel smells of mold which gave me theeee worst allergies. The security of the hotel did our turn down service which obviously turned out horrible. The air condition conked out in the middle of the night. The drain in all our sinks was clogged. To top it all off, their customer service was beyond horrible.

Definitely not a "5 star" treatment. Worst hotel experience in my life. I would never recommend this place to anyone. Thank god there was an available room at the Delano which is superb!

Stayed for an $800-plus room fee one night experience on MLK weekend.

We had reserved a poolside room.  On check-in, we were told we would be getting a "Classic View" room instead.   Classic means a view of the next door balconies, apparently populated by sloppy surfer dudes.   Front desk appeared indifferent, bored.  We were told we would be getting a comped breakfast in exchange for the downgrade (corrected room rate not mentioned).

When we got to our comped breakfast, we were given a restricted menu - it was a good breakfast, but why bother emphasizing that they don't want to deliver their best, or even what they promised?  

Beware the room size is very small - at least ours was.

We expected a top experience - but even if we drop our standards a couple of rungs, The Betsy is a miss.  

Do walk by or drop in for a drink - it is a beautiful exterior.

This hotel was wonderful. I stayed here last weekend, and it was perfect. A little boutique-y and the perfect size. I loved how the hotel was decorated-tons of beautiful black and white photos of the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, and other celebs. The lobby has chess and checkers set up with comfy couches.
Highlights:
The restaurant in the hotel (which I will review separately) was awesome.
The pool was in the shade almost all day (which, for a red head with freckles is a blessing!), It wasn't huge, but it was adequate and never crowded.
The roof deck was gorgeous and had beautiful views--we had a drink there one night before going to dinner.
The shower products are all Malin + Goetz which was awesome.
The room we stayed in was a suite--two rooms, a living room and a bedroom with 2 double beds. The bathroom was all marble and had a great shower. It was decorated beautifully and the beds were super comfy.
The hotel has an agreement with a towel/chair/umbrella company on the beach, so we went to the beach each day and were treated like royalty.
The staff at the hotel was really helpful (dining suggestions, activity suggestions) and nice.

The only weird thing was the TV. We had 2, and both were HD, however the cable was not HD, which was weird and looked terrible when we were trying to watch the Red Sox before bed. Also, our schedule and the cleaning person's didn't synch up. We wanted to shower after the beach and before going out, and we had towels from the pool, so we ended up calling for towels and leaving our soaked towels in the hall and letting them know. We couldn't reuse them b/c they were SO damp, unfortunately. I think this was just b/c we were up early and in bed early (ahh, being in my 30s... I'm such a blast, ha).

OMG the bookmark which has been put on the pillow definitely surprises me!!! It says it is embedded with wildflower seeds and either could be used to mark or moisten it, plant it in soil and watch the windflowers bloom. Awesome!!! I love that!!! And the book on the shelves are inspiring!!! The only cons is that the space is too small as we couldn't move freely when we pass by the beds. We arrived after 11 PM and the staff is still very efficient. It seems that they are waiting for us to check in as the receptionist speak out my name without I telling him. Will come again.

Eating outside overlooking South Beach.  I would stop there because that is usually enough.  Besides the beautiful people, it is not every day you get to see a guy back into a fence trying to park a red Ferrari.  While I didn't stay at the Betsy, I did grab lunch.  (next time I will stay).

Service and Food was great - Cuban Sandwich (what else) drinks were on the beach, sun sand, wrecking car...  Yeah I am repeating myself.  It was just a fun afternoon.  Did I mention I was smoking a cigar too???

What a lovely boutique hotel!! We stayed at the Betsy for three nights this past week and loved it.

It's a beautiful beach front hotel located in the famous architectural district of Miami. At first sight the rooms appear small and cramped but once you settle in you realize that there is plenty of space in the room. The rooms are beautifully designed with lots of closet space. The decor is all white with a touch of color like green or orange. Everything is color coordinated and very comfortable.

I loved the attention to detail in the room. It was very well planned and comfortable. The best part was the small personal In-Room Library with autographed books by major writers. In fact the hotel is so committed to Arts and philanthropy that they have a separate writer's room.

The marble bathrooms are well stocked with (MALIN+GOETZ) luxury apothecary bath amenities.

The hotel itself if small but very cozy and well maintained. The staff is excellent! I'd like to give a shout-out to Paul from the concierge who was excellent and helped us with various dining reservations. Thank you Paul! The housekeeping was very helpful and prompt too. They did provide us with extra slippers, toothpaste and bandage when needed.

The hotel itself has a lovely roof deck facing the Atlantic ocean. One can enjoy the beautiful sunset stretched on a chaise lounge. They do have a private pool and a spa for pure relaxation. The hotel is located beachfront on Ocean Drive at 14th Street and offers beach attendant service to provide chairs and umbrellas. If you are a guest at the hotel you get 2 chairs and an umbrella on the beach for free.

Thursday evenings they have live music in the lounge. We sipped some wine and enjoyed a game of chess while listening to the band.

The BLT steak is an excellent restaurant at the hotel. We dined three times on separate occasions. The Brunch was delicious. They have the biggest French toast I have ever eaten. It's HUGE and delicious! All the meals were scrumptious and left us very happy and content.

My favorite part about this hotel are the wonderful black and white photographs of the Beatles band. Adorning the walls of the hotel are these lovely photographs of the band taken in their early years. They are simply beautiful and add a special touch!

I am very satisfied with my stay at the hotel and will highly recommend it. Needless to say I will come back for more!!

This is the best kept secret in SOBE. Combining the timeless elegance of a private club with the top notch service of a much pricier venue, it is perfectly scaled for the energetic pace of the area. With only 3 floors, you won't spend your entire stay waiting for an elevator or in one. A serene little paradise with a fantastic soundtrack and the best smelling hallways around. Don't miss the rooftop lounge - it is a dream.

This review is for the rooftop bar. The stars are for the quiet, the view, and the courteous service, plus great furnishings and ambiance.  The mixed drinks were expensive, as expected and is only right for the location, but they were from a mix. You could avoid this by ordering wine instead, but the list is generic (cab sav, merlot, etc.) so that's not a safe bet either. May be best to go with something simple like gin & tonic or something brand name on the rocks.

This place visually remarkable! But the one complaint I have is the price for mixed drinks. $20.00 for a subpar Mohito! Really??  I'm in awe from the bill for one sorry drink! Don't they know if the drinks are priced reasonably, they will sell more which means increased sales.

I stayed at the Betsy for three nights over MLK weekend.  I was really happy with the majority of my experience at this boutique hotel.  Highlights for me included the location, the pleasant staff, the beach (just walk across the street and staff will set up chairs and towels for no charge), the restaurant (BLT steak = a pretty great hotel restaurant with a terrific brunch) and the Malin & Goetz products in the bathrooms.  

However, I was less than thrilled with my experience at the Betsy's rooftop "spa". There are no actual spa facilities -- just curtained areas on the roof for procedures.  I arrived on the roof for my 1-hour massage and there was no one there to greet me.  The masseuse arrived around the same time I did with a rolling suitcase, accompanied by a man in a tracksuit.  The man handed me a robe and gestured for me to go back into the hallway, where there was a small bathroom for me to get changed.  There was no waiting area, locker room or other spa-like amenities to enjoy, either before or after my massage.   I was given a straw basket to put my clothes and jewelry in.  

Although the massage was very relaxing, my masseuse spoke very little english so it was difficult to communicate with her about my preferences.  There was music playing for part of my massage, but then it abruptly cut off midway through.  When the massage was over, my masseuse indicated that I was to go get changed in the bathroom.  At this point, I was covered in massage oil and didn't particularly feel like putting my clothes back on before heading back to my room.  I asked if I could take the robe back to my room and return it later, which caused a lot of confusion due to the language barrier.  The man in the tracksuit emerged with a clipboard for me to sign for my $180 massage.  I found the whole experience pretty un-spa like and disappointing, especially given the price.  Too bad, because the rest of the hotel amenities and services were fantastic!

A boutique hotel in South Beach tucked in a semi-private corner, the Betsy was exactly what we were looking for during a recent staycation in December. We're locals to South Florida - we live just across the border in Fort Lauderdale, so it is often that we will look for a place to spend a day or 2 while experiencing the nightlife of Miami Beach.

The biggest things I liked about the hotel were the location, the boutique nature, Sonoma Cutrer chardonnay can be ordered by the glass (triple bonus points), and their roof deck area were all highlights. WE did not dine at BLT Steak but let's face it - I'm fairly certain that would be a hit as well.

The service was great! We were treated well especially by the front deskman who checked us in. I would have to disagree with the review about the bartender making the experience. IF anything - he was the weakest link of all. Still, no complaints overall with our service.

We would stay here again without question and would recommend to other locals or people looking for a more intimate hotel (no corporate feel here!), in an excellent location to spend a day or 10 in South Beach.

This review ONLY applies to the bar.  I figured since I spend half my life there, I should maybe write something about it.  Why I go- Dave is the best bartender, and like me, from the north.  He is great at interacting with anyone who sits there (the bar), which is a MUST if you like to frequent bars alone.  Nothing worse than a bartender who doesn't speak!  So..I can order food at the bar, which is the same food from the restaurant side.  I also like the booze, and even though the rare times I order tea or coffee I do get made fun of, they are still available.

I like the atmosphere and find it relaxing. Dress how you want because who the hell cares. It is easy to strike up conversations with those around you or do the whole "keep-your-eyes-down-so-no-one-talks-to-me" thing.  Plus, once you become a regular, I find I am at least watched over so no creeps creep around me.  Speaking of being a regular...you cannot beat walking into a bar and they always know which 3 things you are going to order and exactly what you like for dessert. This gets an A in my book.

On certain nights there is live music-something else I like. I have yet to hear anything I don't like. My only complaint is that the music is always too loud, making it difficult to talk to those next to you.  Most people who go tend to agree, so I am not sure why nothing is done about it.

Otherwise, what can I say? They have my favorite green beans out of anyplace I have been and it is like a second home. No judgment on that last part, please.

Great bar with great service.

Great location but service is lacking.   On the first I visited BLT for a late afternoon lunch.   Ordered sushi which came out a tad on the warm side.   It didn't matter because the server never came back around to check on me and went missing when I needed a check.   Not one staff member asked if I needed a refill or if my food was ok.  For dinner that evening I headed to the bar and service there was exceptional.  Room service was also terrible.   On one of my room service breakfast orders items were missing when they arrived.   Same thing happened again today.   Is it a nice hotel? It has character and for South Beach I suppose it's ok.  But the rooms are tiny and service is not on par with a luxury hotel.    Staff needs training IMO.

This hotel is beautiful!  Cannot wait to come back.  Spent two nights here on a girls getaway and it was awesome.  We we stayed in a double with an ocean view.  Windows open so you fall asleep to the sound of the ocean.  Great location right across from Starbucks on north end of Ocean. Super clean and comfortable.  We will definitely be back. Highly recommend.

Pretty cool hotel.  We went to an event which was held at the Rooftop Lounge.  When we walked in, the front desk clerk told us where to go and was very friendly.  They currently have an art display of vintage Beatles and other musician photos all over the hotel.  It's really cool to look at the pictures.  Additionally, the entire place is very tastefully done and isn't over the top like so many places in Miami.  The Rooftop Lounge was beautiful and offers a comfortable place for an event for about 100 people and amazing views of the beach and ocean.  The restaurant was crowded and smelled great, even though we didn't eat there.  The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is that the one elevator was super slow and super cramped, but it does give you a good reason to take the stairs.

My bf and I  stayed at The Betsy the nights of 4/3-4/6. There's no shortage of hotels on Ocean Drive, but The Betsy was in a class of it's own. It oozed elegance and sophistication from the beautiful building to it's lobby, to the quaint room we stayed in. The front desk was warm and welcoming, and they were eager to assist us with making dinner reservations, calling for cabs, etc. Everyone who worked at the hotel greeted you with a smile and a "hello" as you passed by them.

We stayed in a classic King room. The room was small but you don't need a humongous suite when all you need to do is pass out at night. The bed was comfortable and the sheets were super soft and warm. Our room included a closet, minibar, and a lovely, sleek bathroom. Even though the Betsy is located on Ocean Drive, it's far enough from the really loud bars and restaurants for you to get a good night's rest. The only sounds we heard from our room was the occasional car honking, and the service vehicles in the morning.

We had free breakfast with our room rate, which consists of coffee/juice, 2 eggs any style, home fries, a choice of sausage or bacon, and a small side of fruit. It certainly filled us up enough to skip lunch and save room in our bellies for dinner. You can walk across the street to the beach, where you get a free umbrella, 2 towels and 2 chairs when you mention your room number at the hotel.

The only downside I can say about the hotel was that the roof deck was closed to the public during the weekend for private events. However, the hotel staff left a letter on my door apologizing for the inconvenience and they offered us a free cocktail each at the bar. Speaking of the bar, the bartender at the main lobby made me the most exquisite chocolate martini. That alone deserved 5 stars! All in all, I definitely recommend the Betsy. I felt like I was treated like royalty, and I definitely will be staying here again on my next visit!

Stopped in for a Bloody Mary after walking along the Miami beach Boardwalk. The Bloody Mary is a little on the small side since it wasn't a pint glass and was nothing special. It did have a little bit of an Asian flavor which I could not put my finger on but reminded me of something I have had with sushi. Maybe seaweed. For $14 the Bloody Mary was over priced but you do get to enjoy it in a very nice outdoor atmosphere.

Almost everything about this hotel was amazing. The staff is incredibly friendly, helpful, and attentive. The Classic King room was better than the last Ritz Carlton I had been to; the bathroom and shower was a bit cramped and got quite warm inside because of what I assume was poor ventilation but overall I really liked my room. Bathroom shampoo and what-nots are actually pretty nice. There is also a lighted mirror for the lady and a safe to leave your valuables in.

Location is incredible, it's right at the start of Ocean Drive which means you're right in the middle of everything South Beach has to offer. You go left if you want Collins Avenue and Lincoln Road for shopping. You go right if you want touristy-samey-samey "restaurants." I wouldn't recommend drinking or dining on Ocean Drive except at The Palace for brunch; they have an MC, put on shows, and give you unlimited/bottomless mimosas (which actually taste good by the way).

The beach is two minutes away walking distance from the hotel's front doors. You just have to cross the street. Beach was clean except for the occasional cigarette butt here and there.

When I go back to SB I intend to stay at the Betsy again. Highly recommend it for the location/price ratio alone.

This is my second stay and I have the exact same feeling leaving there as I did the first stay...FOUR star decor and THREE star service.

I can go on and on about the problems I experienced with the staff but do not feel like boring you nor myself by repeating them.  Bottom line is they do not practice high end service befitting of being included in the Small Luxury Hotels of the World group.  Not at all.

The decor, however, is another matter.  Everywhere you turn has something interesting to witness and gives you great decorating ideas.

The rooftop deck is purely idyllic.  Oh, here's an easy little example of the poor service - no one bothered to tell me about the wonderful deck where you can order off the full menu and have wine and drinks looking out over the ocean.  I only stumbled upon it while getting a massage up on the roof top deck.  Had I been informed, I would have spent all my dining money at the hotel and never left that particular stay.

The spa up on the deck in the open air is another plus to the hotel.  I love getting treatments outside.  I had both a massage and a facial and they were great.  OH, now I remember, I was given a half torn up robe.  I planned to post the pic but never did.  It's still on my phone.  Can you believe that robe in a "high end" establishment?

Love the restaurant and the lobby bar.  I can't wait to return and try some of the desserts.  They look beyond heavenly.  Oh my God, the fresh popovers straight from the oven at dinner?  Oh yes!  Idyllic.

The location is FIVE star.  I appreciate being right across from the beach and close to Lincoln Road Mall and Espanola Way.

Finally, for beach lovers, they have cabanas out on the beach for you.  Yet another snafu I encountered and will no get into but you pay a $16 daily fee to stay at the hotel and have use of the cabanas.

Will I stay here again?  For the right price as the location is very convenient for my needs when visiting Miami.  I know what to expect and adjust accordingly.

Our concierge was so accomodating and gave us spot on recommendations. This place is litered with rolling stones photos of their time spent im the hotel. If it's good enough for the stones it's good enough for me. The rooftop bar over looks Miami Beach and is beautiful at night. It is a great place to stay as all of the trendy bars, hotels, and clubs are no more than 5 minutes away but the hotel itself is quiet and serene.

Oh and starbucks is right across the street.
