History

Established in 1998.

When the late urban developer/preservationist Tony Goldman and daughter Jessica Goldman Srebnick, a former fashion industry executive, tapped innovative fashion designer Todd Oldham to create South Beach's jewel, The Hotel, formerly The Tiffany, a new wave appeared on the horizon. Its historical November 1998 opening marked the first time an American fashion designer had created all of the interior aspects of a hotel and the beautiful boutique property went on to win numerous awards and accolades. In 1999, The Hotel was named one of 31 top new hotels worldwide by Condé Nast Traveler magazine and in 2007 was listed on the magazine's prestigious Gold List.

The best hotel OVERALL in the area of 8th & Ocean. You cannot beat the rooftop pool with any other nearby--certainly the hotel's brightest plus! The view from the rooftop is awesome and the food and drinks are quality...though sometimes you have to approach the almost "shy" seeming staff to get them ordered. The beautiful pool can at times run very warm (almost like a hot tub) so if you find this mention it to the staff--we did and the temperature was back to what you'd expect the next day. The rooms themselves are "decent", everything's clean and works and there's a good selection of channels on cable to keep you entertained should it be raining...a good free internet connection here too. The beds could be improved upon...you'll be hanging off the end of the bed should you be over 6 feet tall, but they are cosy. WISH is always a great experience, one of the best dinners on the Beach! If there's just two of you ask to be seated around the fountain. Biggest minus? For us, it was just how small the rooms run here...a bit of South Beach we can never get over...the bathrooms are a little bit more roomy than an airplane's...they are nice, but I'm a guy and I realize there's no room for a girl to get ready in there. Small minuses: the elevator can be very slow--expect to wait a few minutes quite often even though there's just four floors. SKIP SKIP SKIP the penthouse unit...especailly Wednesday through Saturday nights!!! The penthouse is located right between the Spire Bar (a beautiful must visit at night intimate rooftop bar!) and the elevator and if you're an early-to-bed type you're going to be very annoyed by the noise...and suprised (and scared?) at how many people try the door!  The unit itself really isn't that much bigger than any of the other rooms in the house...maybe an extra 35 square feet? Of course, what hotel on SOBE doesn't have valet problems? With this hotel however we've had problems more than once (which you can't really blame on the hotel)...so definetly call ahead and ASK FOR THE FRONT DESK to call your room when the car is finally PARKED OUT FRONT...one early weekday afternoon it took over 45 minutes--YIKES! The front desk staff have ALWAYS been friendly and helpful in every one of our visits, and Juan Pierre is a very friendly part of the lobby staff so keep your eye out for him! OVERALL again, The Hotel of South Beach is the best there is on the immediate South Beach area--steps away from great Lincoln Road shopping and a block away from all the Ocean Drive action. Best kept kinda secret: there's a shower next to the gym, just off the pool (looks like it'd just be a closet)...VERY useful if you have a late flight and find yourself in need of a quick shower after laying out at the pool after already being checked out of your room.

One of the first places I've ever stayed on SoBe trips and its great.  Great rooftop pool with great breakfast from the restaurant.  Great beach chairs and towel service right on South Beach a block away from the hotel.  You can take some take-out from WIsh at the Hotel or News Cafe a block away to the beach.  There is absolutely no view in any room, but as if you are getting a view.  Now, the sssshhhhh best secret is that the penthouse is the best room, and not outrageously priced.  Great if you are with a group of friends to have a couple stay in the PH, makes for very fun-pre-going out-after-going out fun...Great SoBe Boutique hotel.

LOOOOVED this hotel!  It was right in the center of everything - bars, restaurants, shopping, beach, etc.  So clean, unbelievably friendly staff, and reasonable proices.  The rooftop pool is amazing and the cabannas were perfect!  Also, for staying at the hotel, you get free chairs, cushions, and cushion covers and towels set up for you for free.  You don't even need to take a towel to the beach with you!!!  Just loved this place!!!

WORST hotel experience EVER.  All due to one factor----there is ZERO sound insulation between rooms and the worst, old, creaky floors.  Think the most rundown NYC tenament apartment ever--times ten.  It sounded like an elephant stampede when my upstairs neighbor merely walked and paced about.  It's too bad the rooms are cute and the staff really nice, but they need to invest some money in making this into a real hotel before they should expect people to pay $200/night.  Sleeping in the street would be about as peaceful.

Sure, it's a cute little boutique hotel with a cool restaurant and a nice bar on the roof.  My wife and I stayed here while we were in transit to the islands (both on the way out and back).

But it is soooo loud.  It rivals staying in a hostel.  There are 2" gaps under the doors, and with wood floors in the hallway you really do hear everything.  When the revelers get off the elevator at 2am, you hear everything.  So unless you passed out, you'll probably wake up.

This 40 room hotel on 8th and Collins in South Beach is the epitome of boutique. The staff is truly accommodating and they work hard to make sure you are happy.  James, the front desk guy, upgraded our room so we can have more space. The rooms are clean, sparsely decorated with cool, art deco furniture, and the rain shower is heavenly after a day at the pool.

On Saturday, we didn't even leave the hotel until 1am when we decided to have a few drinks at Skybar. The Hotel has a roof top pool where they serve the best Mojitos. Do not drink these on an empty stomach or you'll be knocked out in 15 minutes. We also indulged in massages given in the cabanas. Ask for Bob. His technique is magic.  There is also a separate cozy bar on the roof top called Spire that has a gorgeous view of the beach and surrounding street scape.

We also ate dinner at Wish, the hotel restaurant. The chef blends French, Asian, and Mediterranean flavors into delicious, exotic dishes. I plan to return to this property again for a relaxing, indulgent escape from Atlanta.

Hotel staff was super friendly and very accomodating. The rooms were a good size. Bathrooms were clean. Roof top pool could have been a tad size bigger. Right around corner from beach, Wet Willie's, 24 hour diner-News Cafe. Downside: housekeeping and/or thin walls made for loud mornings between the door slamming and talking in the hallways. However, would stay again if returned to South Beach.

An excellent value. Small boutique hotel with great location, service and amenities. Very comfortable rooms that are relatively quiet for South Beach. Rooftop pool with ocean view is awesome. The free beach chairs and umbrellas are easily a $40 savings per couple; short walk to beach and directly across the street from great shopping. Gym is small but bright and includes good selection of free weights and tread mills. Housekeeping staff is very thorough and friendly. Some small signs of wear and tear but generally well maintained. Free Internet also saves money.  If you don't care for monster resorts and large price tags, this is the place for you.

I would def recommend staying at this hotel in South Beach.  The decision can be confusing since there are so many to choose from.  This hotel has it all!  The staff is extremely friendly and helpful...from the minute you step foot in the lobby!! The location couldn't be any better...one block from  Ocean Drive, the beach, shopping, restaurants, clubs, etc.  The rooftop pool has a great bar and view of the ocean!  And, yes, also the best mojitos!!  I had to try one since other reviewers raved about them, and Mark does make the BEST!!! They also have chairs reserved on the beach for hotel guests, which were comfortable and saved us each $20/day. The hotel itself was very clean, beds comfortable and quiet.
Once again, I can't stress how friendly all the employees are...from the housekeeping staff to the bellhop, concierge, front desk, bar tenders, etc ....a special thanks to David for being so kind, always happy and smiling, and suggesting some of the best restaurants and coffee shops to us!!!

Not as great as I expected, but a comfy & cozy home base in SoBe.

The good:  Awesome location on 8th & Collins, two blocks from the beach, walking distance from all the clubs & restaurants in SoBe.  The chairs on the beach are great, as is having a beach towel provided.

The bad:  the noise!  The windows did a good job of insulating from Collins, but there was a 1 inch gap under the door.  This meant we heard EVERYTHING from the hall, including all the elevator conversations.

Room Service wasn't really together--I called front desk, and got transferred to the pool bar, which said they didn't do room service.  My boyfriend was more persistent and got transferred a third time to the actual restaurant.  And they are strict about only serving breakfast til 11:30 AM.

We loved the location facing Collins--we had a cozy window seat where we could sit & watch the human scene go by, and our window even opened a few inches.

Discount travelers beware, they will stick you in the basement across from housekeeping. I booked months in advance and that's what I got. No view and next to the kitchen noise from the restaurant inside. The room decor must have been nice when it was new but now is very tired looking full of stains and discoloring. One of the decor details became one guests ashtray since there were cigarette butts and ashes inside despite it being a non smoking room. The bathroom is very cute and uniquely designed with stainless steel, mirrors and colored tiles. Nice shower. Location is very good but somewhat inconvenient to the convention center. To their credit, the staff, especially the bell hops are great. Lovely pool with a view on the roof, but everyone is on display in the small space.

A self-described boutique hotel, this place certainly has more character than the average hotel and I enjoyed my stay. Location is perfect for exploring Miami Beach, close to interesting streets and beaches. Room design and furnishings were bright and attractive. Hotel staff were notably friendly and pleasant to deal with.

Total cool points for snagging us the last room in the hotel (and perhaps all of SOBE) when we got stranded here thanks to a cancelled flight.  NYE out by the airport wouldn't have rocked at all.  Being right here at collins and 8th was party central (sorta).

wasn't our first time staying here - and the place hasn't aged well.  What was once cool and funky 4 years back is now that "ridden hard and put away wet" kinda look.

And not sure if it was the holiday week, our goofy mood, or the clientele, but dammit if this hotel didn't feel like a cruise ship....long, narrow halways - thin, tinny walls -  a rooftop pool that felt like it should be called the Lido Deck - and I may have spotted Charo.

but you can't beat the location, and the staff from front desk to rooftop amenities well all friendly (which isn't always a guarantee in these parts)

Liked this place the roof top pool with bar was legit in Miami. This place is the sister hotel to Park Place on ocean drive. I have to say it is pretty boss and less the cost then staying at the delano. There is a bartender on the roof so you can get your miami vice and mojito if you like classic miami drinks. I would come back here again definitely. What can I say liquor, good staff, and roof top pool... PRICE LESS!

Great location. 1 block away from ocean drive on 8th and Collins.  Boutique hotel, clean but what pushed the hotel to 5 star is the service.  The concierege and other stafff really tried to make us comfortabel, they were so friendly, helped us with reservations even during one of the most busy weekends in Miami with boat show, latin grammys and art festival in town.  The price is fair.  Great rooftop pool. What this place lacks in views and trendiness it definately made up in service, location and cleanliness.  I would stay at hotel again.

This hotel is located in the best spot. Only one block away from Ocean Drive and you have everything around you. The workers there are great and they work very hard to accomadate you. One of the guys there, Tony, was superb. He even gave us bracelets to get into this club down the strip for free. We had a great time there and all thanks to Tony. The best part of this experience was the pool on the roof. Great view and the bar was great. The BEST mojitos I've ever had. The drinks are pretty pricey ($10-15) but hey, it's South Beach. We didn't get a chance to eat there but everything looked great. The lights. The flowers. The room was roomy and had a nice retro look to it.

A plus! When you're in the bathroom, try to listen because in the airvent you can hear a light flute playing. I read about it online before my boyfriend and I went and I thought it wasn't true, but it was! It goes to show you they have a nack for detail! I will be staying again!

The only minus was after a storm, we had a little leaking from the roof but they came to fix it immediately! Ohh and no free mini bar.

LOVE this little gem! We stayed for the second time this past week, and the pool on the roof can't be beat for view and "old world charm." Always able to get towels easily and my husband said it was the best gym out of the four hotels we stayed in during our vacation. Wonderful front desk staff and staff in general. Cesar was so helpful; we loved our room and upgrade. Complimentary drinks when we arrived and continental breakfast both mornings. Great location on Collins and 8th. We'll be back!

Fabulous boutique hotel nestled in the heart of South Beach. If you're looking for a sophisticated & trendy yet non-corporate hotel, then this is your place!

* Perfect location! Directly across street from beach where each guest has reserved beach chair & towel included. In the center of all the trendy shops and restaurants located on popular Ocean Dr, Collins St, Washington St.

* Roof top pool, ocean view & bar with yummy blended mojitos (their house specialty). Plus, swanky night time roof top bar, Spire.

* Super friendly & accommodating staff. Each day our concierge made us reservations, provided local advice and gave us free passes to the hot spots....saving us a buck!

* Clean room, comfy bed, cable TV, stocked mini bar, charming tiled bathroom w/ his & hers matching tie-dye robes! Quietness from the busy outdoors.

Coming from SF, I loved how this charming boutique hotel gave us a change from a big city.

We stayed there last week and had a great experience. It's a very cute hotel and the location cannot get any better, you are right in the center of South Beach one block from the ocean. Rooms were very cute and clean. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The rooftop pool was nice and had a bar (yey!). They also reserve beds for you at the beach which saves you money since it costs to rent them if you are not a guest.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to South Beach!

Roof top pool tops this boutique hotel with sapphire ocean views where I watched the cruise ships head back out to sea. ( Insert sad face here...watched NCL "The Epic" leave after we just got off of it earlier that day)

Towels, lounge chairs and umbrella for beach- complimentary.

Robe and slippers in each room. Super comfy king size bed with overstuffed pillows and down comforter.

Stay here if you want to shop (Guess, Victoria Secret, Banana Republic, Gap, Urban Outfitters+ more) , eat (News Cafe is a must) and people watch.

It's central to everything, including Starbucks. A must for a Seattelite. And they are NOT on every corner like I'm used to.

A bit noisy, but a few drinks on the beach and an afternoon of shopping-you'll doze right off without noticing the biker gangs and jacked up base from cars cruisin' the strip.

Loved my stay at this hotel.  Super cute/trendy little boutique hotel, that garners 3 diamonds, and rightfully so.  Situated in a great area, and located literally a hop, skip and a jump away from the beach, one short block away from Ocean Ave., and loads of restaurants and shopping.

They also have a super nice pool on the roof and an even better roof-top bar facing the famous "Tiffany" sign.  If you are there, make sure to go upstairs and check it out.  I don't remember if the bar is open to the public but it might be.

Not that cheap, then again, what is in this town (except the. . .)??  The service was great, everyone was uber friendly and the rooms were the cutest!  All rooms are designed by Todd Oldham and are so colorful!  Even the tiling in the restroom and cloth bags for the blow dryer are cute!  The rooms feature tie-dyed robes, ginormous plush beds and cushions, desks, and huge restrooms that feature the rain-head showerheads (love those!).

only stayed here for one night, so take my review with a grain of salt. I have three items for you:

Esteban, the bellman, is awesome. The guy was always smiling, had a slew of great recommendations for us, and made us feel instantly welcome on Collins Ave. despite the fact that I'm a fat pasty white guy driving an obvious dumpy rental car.

The hotel is beautiful, in beautiful condition, and in a very good location.

Our obnoxious neighbor started up a boom box with horrible techno music in the middle of the night. We called the front desk, and about 30 seconds later, no more techno. I don't know how they accomplished this, but my last thought before falling back to sleep was that I should shake the hands of the night shift desk staff.

Good show, and keep it up!

We stayed in the "new" part of the hotel, which is closer to Ocean Blvd, than Collins....

Here is the good: great bed, good size room (although sparse) Nice bathroom with rain shower, bell staff is good. free beach chairs and towels and a very short walk to the beach.

Here is the bad: Noise, not just street noise, the doors slam very load, we stayed in room 229, this is right next to the laundry closet and the elevator, so all morning housekeeping kept opening and closing the door and it made a odd low pitch moan and then slam!! (About 100 times between 8-11).  The floors in the room above us made a very loud noise every time ANYONE took a foot step. Wet willies parties till about 5 AM on the weekends and this is across the street from room 229.  $25.00 Valet parking is a bit much, check in was a bit slow,

Overall the hotel is nice; we decided before we left that for the price $215++ per night, we would probably not stay again.

This review is for the pretty nice rooftop bar on top of the hotel. The view is not ON the beach, so there are roofs and pipes, etc in your view... but the pool and the bar are fun. It was totally worth going and having a drink here. $13 drink, but two for one. Not too crowded.

The Hotel of South Beach could not have been more of a pleasant surprise. Centrally located it is walking distance from any shop you could want to go to as well as the beach. It is slightly quieter too since it is one block away from the main strip (and wet willies!).

The rooftop pool looked out onto the beach and we basically had it to ourselves. We were visiting in an off season though and pool was not that large. I could imagine it being crowded during the popular tourist months. We had called and asked for a possible upgrade a month prior to going and when we checked in (early) it was available and free so I would definitely recommend just asking- can't hurt!

Concierge was super helpful and gave us great places to eat and go out. The hotel also provided a spot on the beach with towels and chairs so you didn't have to worry about stuffing a blanket in your bag.

Great place and would definitely recommend it!

Nice, clean hotel in the middle of everything in South Beach. We asked for a quiet room when we made the reservation and they gave us one, in the back of the hotel. Loved the 60's decor. Staff were friendly and very helpful.

Nice pool on the roof and a great place to watch sunrise without walking to the beach.

I really didn't find anything to complain about and a lot to like.

I stayed here twice within six months. This time was great. The room was nice, and the pool also. The food at the pool was delicious. I ate lunch there, and breakfast the next day. I rarely write reviews.  I wanted to take the time to state that this is one of the most enjoyable hotel I've ever visited.  It's not fancy, not the Ritz by any means, but it has a lot more to offer:  First and foremost the service is excellent, the staff exceedingly friendly.  Next, the rooms are well kept, clean, bright and comfortable in size.  The location on Collins avenue is excellent.  Right in the heart of everyting  but not on the noisy and crowded Ocean Drive.  Best shopping is on Collins, all around the hotel. Not fancy but far from Spartan.  There's a beautiful and very private roof top pool - with an excellent staff. Great views too. On the gound floor there is a bar and restaurant - both inside and out.  Food is great.  Guests are mostly foreign, so there's not the feeling one gets in a large downtown business - tourist hotel. Much more cosmopolian Only thing that might need improving is the slow internet and some sound proofing.,   Been here twice and will definitely come back again.

clean rooms and professional service with a convenient locations on collins ave that is close to everything. nice roof top pool with lots of chairs and clean towels, with a nice view to the sunset and the beach. we had good customer service the whole time, my only complaints are that

1) the beds are definitely not queen size. they are full size!! we complained but the staff assured us that they are definitely queen. they are NOT!
2) the walls are super thin and we could hear everything, the neighbors (coughing, moaning, packing, flushing toilets, etc) and the hall way (door slamming, people talking, maids knocking)
3) only 1 elevator??? for the whole hotel?

just poor sleep quality!

Great hotel and staff.  David the Maitre'D, was very helpful and a delight (and very funny!).  Staff was super nice and prompt.  Pool and gym were great.  Rooms are nice, but need to be spruced up (Bathrooms are really cool looking tho!).  Was on the first floor as well and you could hear the people walking around upstairs, but it was tolerable.  Very central to everything in South Beach.

Nice boutique hotel right in the heart of south beach.  Started off a bit on a low, but quickly turned around.  Notes below

Pros
- Location - It's right in the heart of SOBE. There is a bus stop around the corner so you can take the SOBE local for 25 cents to Lincoln Road or anywhere up Washington.  There is a 7-11 on 9th and Washington (2 blocks away).  We went there like 10x to get water and snacks.  Tons of food places around the corner on Ocean.
- Staff - They were very friendly and helpful.  We got recommendations on things to do and places to eat.
- Rooms - They are a good size and pretty modern.  Nice comfy bed, tv with HD channels, and a good size shower.
- Pool - There is a rooftop pool that is small but nice.  We got free drink vouchers when we checked in that we used up there on night.

Cons
- Don't get a room on the first floor - We were initially put on the first floor.  Not sure if it's due to the age of the building, but we could hear every footstep of the people above us.  Also, there is a apartment complex right next door so we could hear all the talking and laughing from next door.  We basically couldn't sleep that night.  We asked to be moved and we got moved to the 3rd floor and it was night and day difference.

I had a wonderful stay at The Hotel recently. After doing a ton of online research, I picked The Hotel because of their solid reviews and I couldn't be happier at my choice. I stayed Sunday through Thursday with my sister and friend. From the moment we walked through the doors we were treated amazingly. From recommending restaurants and activities during our stay, to helping us hail cabs, to checking in on us frequently, the staff is awesome and were the perfect example of how to make guests feel special and catered too. I love the fact that the hotel is small enough that the staff remembers and acknowledges you everytime you walk in the door. How many other hotel staffers at big, chain hotels would personally walk outside and hail a cab for a guest? Overall, I felt like the staff really had our backs and made sure they did everything their power to accomodate us in any way.

In addition to the front desk and concierge staff, the housekeeping did a great job of keeping our room tidy and supplying us with fresh towels and refilling our tissues. The room itself was clean, a bit bigger than expected and was perfectly fine for our stay. Another Yelper mentioned that the beds are not queen size but full, and I agree with that. The beds definitely seemed smaller, more like full size but then again that wasn't a big issue for us.

The pool is small but honestly I was fine with that. There were only about five other guests at the pool when we went so there were tons of chairs available. The bar area is very small and somewhat informal and lackluster, but seeing as though the pool wasn't really all that busy, so i don't fault them for that.

Some of biggest perks of staying at The Hotel are - free wifi, free chairs at the beach (but no umbrella though?? hmm) and the prime location of the hotel in South Beach. The Hotel is centrally located, close to the beach (1 super short block), tons of shopping, all of the hot restaurants on Ocean Drive & Collins, Lincoln Road and Espanola Way (about 15 minutes walking) and coffee shops and convienence stores. No car needed at all! Walking around South Beach only further confirmed how happy I was we picked The Hotel because IMO no other hotel's location was as great as The Hotel.

Overall, STAY AT THE HOTEL, you will love it. The staff and service alone is enough to make me come back. John and Dan specifically are wonderful, great guys who are amazing at their jobs! You both made our first visit to Miami very enjoyable.

You have to be either really friggen pretentious or super uncreative to call a hotel THE Hotel. But because I don't rate hotels based upon how much effort they put into naming their establishment, no harm done.

The Hotel is at a great location with all the South Beach staples right at your fingertips: the beach (obvi), Collins and all its drunken glory, and Lincoln Road is not too far of a walk (NOT for nightlife/ heel walking but general daytime is okay). No complaints as far as cleanliness or comfort and I was very impressed (disclaimer: I'm easily impressed) by the thoughtfulness of this one, very strategically placed full length mirror. It must have been designed by a woman because it was the most perfect layout for sitting on the floor and doing your makeup, allowing for you to spread out all your crap on the shelf while getting really close to the mirror as is needed for proper makeup application, all while someone else is showering or what have you.

Here is where shit went down hill and they lost a star

The valet just does not have their stuff together. I know you are dealing with South Beach traffic, but really? 30 minutes to get my car is unacceptable! Probably took so long because they kept mixing up the tickets and clearly have a crap system in place and employees who are down a chromosome or a child of incest who can't get a car from point A to point B in a timely fashion. The one main valet attendant had this constant look on his face...a look as if I was practicing Santeria and sacrificing a goat right in front of his eyes: a confused/mortified/apologetic sort of look.  Not the most comforting face from the person who is operating MY motor vehicle. But at the end of the day I got my car and they didn't steal my auxiliary cable which is more than I can say for some Miami valets, so just note to call down first before making your way outside or prepare to wait.

There are many parts of South Beach that are really big pieces of shit, or places that at first glance are awesome but then turn out to really just be pieces of shit. The Hotel does not make either of those lists, so it would get my personal recommendation for a stay

Great location, beautifully decorated boutique hotel with staff ready to meet your every need.  Rooms are small but a lot of thought seemed to have gone into the amenities, as any time we needed something we found it in the room (corkscrew, makeup remover, sewing kit, etc.).  Rooftop pool has a nice view out over the ocean and the courtyard tables off the restaurant are a pretty spot just to catch up on email.  And as mentioned, the staff went to great lengths to make sure we enjoyed our stay, although I think we knew more about South Beach by the time we left than the concierge.
The one complaint we had, and it was significant, was the noise.  You can expect that some of the rowdiness of Ocean Drive will drift over a block, which is of course beyond the control of the hotel.  But the age of the hotel means thin walls and floors.  We could hear conversations next door and whenever the people above us walked or even moved, the floors squeaked and groaned so loudly that it actually kept us awake.  Worse, our room overlooked the ground-floor restaurant, which for some reason blasted music (with the bass turned WAY up) until 11:00 at night.  The couple nights we needed to go to bed early, we couldn't sleep until the music was shut off.
Overall, other than the one major complaint, highly recommended.

I'm very conflicted in writing this review.  First off, ALL of the staff we met here were super friendly and super nice and really went out of their way to make our stay great. BUT, the reason for the poor review is the management.

I booked two rooms, one for my family and one for my parents.  We arrived Sunday in the afternoon and everything was pleasant. We went out around 5pm, and felt something was amiss...couldn't really put our finger on it, but basically we saw prostitutes outside.  Not thinking much of it, we ventured out around 830pm and right outside the hotel a man was walking towards us holding his eye, like he just got into a fight.  Normally, I wouldn't care about it, but I was pushing my 2 year old in a stroller and that's not the kind of situation I want to be in.  We felt uncomfortable and expressed this to the management.  We indicated we would like to stay the night, but on our second night, we'd like to check out and change hotels.  After going through booking.com twice, both times Mr. Lewis indicated that they required a 72 hour notice for cancellation...and they wouldn't make an exception to us.  Normally, coughing up one night hotel would be fine, but we had two rooms to forfeit, at a cost of over $600!

Anyway, we decided to make the best of the situation and walked down Collins Avenue and I kid you not, ambulances and firetrucks zoomed by because A MAN JUST GOT SHOT in the stomach down the street.  This basically confirmed our gut feeling that something just wasn't right about the location.

Putting that aside, we trooped through our hesitation with the place and noticed that during the day, it was perfectly ok, full of tourists.  Perhaps it was just that particular night and perhaps this hotel is near bars/restaurants that attract a certain type of clientele.

The pool was great, the waiter by the pool was great.  My complaint, like all others here, is that there is absolutely no sound-proofing in the rooms.  We heard every footstep above us and every single conversation outside our door.  It was like there were no doors.

If you book a normal room, it is the size of a closet. We were lucky in room 224 that it was HUGE, and it was. My parents room was so small they paid extra and moved to another building (not attached to the main hotel) and it was super quiet.

Amazing service from the moment we pulled up to the valet and were greeted with an arms-outstretched "Helllllloooooo!" The entire staff was the friendliest we've encountered since staying at Disney World. Actually The Hotel has even better hospitality than Disney.

The concierge spent a good half hour giving us tips, restaurant ideas, directions, and ideas of things to do here and in Key West. The front desk staff welcomed us home every night and asked how our day was and what we had been up to.

The breakfast and bar staff both downstairs, and at the beautiful pool were also super friendly.

Upon check in, we received two certificates for free drinks at the pool or restaurant. The pool was amazing! Its about 40 feet by 10 feet, warm and inviting, and there are Jacuzzi jets at one end of the pool.  The cabanas were free to use for hotel guests so we had lunch delivered up there every day, and the drinks were great too. The music was just the right volume for a fun hip pool vibe without being too loud.  The beach views and soft cushioned lounge chairs were just perfect. The staff would walk us to the lounge chairs and put on soft terrycloth covers for us and leave a couple of towels. We weren't given a chance to lift a finger. So relaxing!

Our room 224, was huge, clean, bright, and very Miami Beach Chic with Blue, green, & white coordinating colors on the walls, bed, couch, even the bathroom tile. The modern walk-in shower with a rainfall shower head was wonderful too.
Now for the bad part... The Hotel is an older building with wooden floors and no sound proofing, so we heard every step, chair move, and door close from the room above us.  We were literally awoken every night, several times a night, from the sound of people walking around, talking, and squeaking floor boards.  It was like there was furniture being dragged around right above our heads all night.  If we didn't take naps at the pool and at the beach I don't think we would have survived.

Despite the noise problems, the entire experience was amazing. I'd highly recommend a pair of ear plugs and staying again at The Hotel. It was wonderful!

This is a really great place to stay. It's in the heart of South Beach and you are literally in the center of all the action that's going on there.
We have been lucky and got one oceanfront room at the oceanfront building. These rooms have a balcony that overlooks ocean blvd and gives you a nice view of the sea.
On the other side you need to be ok with it that you might have noices from the street all night. But if you are expecting silence, ask for a room at the back.
The service and politeness of the staff was outstanding and friendly.
The room itself is very specious and modern equipped.

All in all a place where I would for sure stay again if I get back to south beach.

This is a nice hotel, very accommodating.  It is on the south end of SoBe on 8th st. Yes the walls are thin, but we only heard the neighbors on Friday not Saturday night.  Pick a high floor for sure, there are only 3 floors.  The staff is very nice, switched my room to a high floor.  You get a free drink card upon arrival.  The pool was great, cabanas in the corner, a bar, great sun exposure, no blockades from the other buildings.  I loved it up there!!  Yes drinks are standard prices 12-15.  The hotel gives you free beach chair and towel...so worth it.   AND it was my birthday, and they left a bottle of champagne in the room for me!!! how nice!  We drank it at the pool.  Great stay, thanks to Melvin at the front desk, the man who walked me across the street in the pouring rain with the hotel umbrella, and hotel staff for hustling a cab for me during peak travel to airport time :).

It's a decent vintage place. The major problem is NOISE. We had people in the room above us who loved to party all night every night. They were large people so that might have contributed to us hearing all their walking around---we heard every step all night long as well as their rap music, which ended about 5am.  When it wasn't them the music from the downstairs bar was relentless until 11pm, just when our friends were waking up. UGH. Pool is VERY TINY. On the plus: housekeeping was decent and the beds well appointed. Sink badly designed, water goes everywhere so I had to constantly wipe it down to keep it under control. Close to the beach and great food. Concierge absolutely worthless, LOL.  Wouldnt stay again unless I was on the top floor.

I stayed at the hotel for 4 nights while I was attending a convention.  It was perfect. The staff is friendly and really does go out of their way to help you out and fulfill any request. The rooms are nicely decorated and the bathrooms are so art deco! I'll definitely recommend this hotel.

When we decided to go to Miami, I said it had to be South Beach for the art deco buildings and color (I'm an amateur photog). My wife found this gem. She was a little concerned due to the age of the building.  However our stay dispelled any concerns.  You are staying in architectural history and a building that was renovated in the original 1939 style.  There should be no expectation that the inside of the building look like a 2014 Marriot.  It's original but new (if that makes sense).

The staff if FIRST RATE.  From the time we checked in to checked out, service could not have been better.  The word that comes to mind is genuine.  The bell captain quickly became our buddy giving us tips on what to see and where to eat and how to economize (park in the near by garage rather than valet).  Our maid was a delightful, little Cubana lady.  They provide evening turn down service (who even does that any more???).

As they say in realty - location, locat...      This is in the epicenter of SB. Being a block off the hyper busy Ocean Dr., it is quiet, with out street noise.  Even up on the roof top pool deck.  The view from that pool side is wonderful with many art deco buildings and the ocean.

Near by is luxury shopping should you not want the hub bub of Ocean Dr.  There is a small Cuban neighborhood diner down the street (Puerto Sagua) for local color out of the tourist zone.

My favorite memory is if the roof top.  We had breakfast at pool side.  It can be a little warm as it faces into the rising sun. There are alcoves (canbanas) that get you out of the sun while still offering a way to ease into the day.  There is also access to another deck where you can see the famous Tiffany spire up close (this deck is used for special bookings but is open when not in use)

Added to my list of "I hate franchises"

The service at this hotel was on point every day we were there. Love the decor and feel of the hotel. The rooms were nice also. The walls were thin though and you can hear almost everything so make sure to get some ear plugs which we did. Also the pool is ALMOST perfect. Everything the the drink prices. Holy cow are they pricey! Other than that, loved our stay there. If they had better specials on drinks, even a HH or something, I would've given 5 stars

The hotel really made the vacation.  The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating, and the concierge, John, was always ready with a dinner or entertainment recommendation.  We did our research on this hotel before booking our trip and expected it to be good, but it exceed our expectations.  We had breakfast on the pool deck almost every morning, because you just couldn't beat the view and the food was actually delicious.  The fresh fruit bowls could not have been fresher and looked just lovely.  The French toast, pancakes, smoothies, and yogurt and granola and coffee were all excellent.  The waiter at the pool deck in the morning was wonderful--I am sorry I did not get his name to commend him.  He remember our orders and room numbers and was very attentive.  We also had a couple lunches here, which were also very good.

Cannot overstate how accommodating the staff was.  I was working in the lobby early one morning before the kitchen opened, and the front desk staff brought me coffee, on the house, even though the kitchen was not open, and absolutely refused to take a tip for it.

The rooms were great.  The beds were very comfortable.  We had two rooms, both facing the street, and did not have a problem with noise.  One room was standard size, and it was not spacious, but we did not need it to be.  The upgraded room had two beds, a walk in bathroom and a large shower, and was very spacious.  The wifi was reliable on my laptop, which is very important to me.

I would unequivocally recommend this hotel.  It really made our vacation great.

This chić boutique hotel was the place we called home during our brief stint at south beach Miami. Sticking with the color schemes that define Miami, the  hotel has all white exteriors with colorful vibrant room interiors.

You can feel the Spanish influences from the minute you step into this place: from the open concept lobby area to the luscious green outdoor seating and warm hospitality. The hotel screams of luxurious comfort. We were greeted by wonderful hotel staff upon arrival and received two complimentary drink coupons of a delicious cocktail called "spite fire". This can be redeemed either at the lobby bar or the poolside bar.

The hotel though located on Collins avenue( a block from the beach) has an newer building on ocean drive ( on the beach) however they are not connected which can painful as your baggage need lugging for a block to the that building but the main reception staff, all the hotel amenities( pool, gym) are in the building on Collins avenue.

Upon arrival we were informed that our room weren't ready and would be a 25 min wait, but the staff was polite and kept us entertained with information with places to eat, alternative things to do etc. I do feel the friendly staff is a big strength to this place. They are extremely accommodating and try their damn hardest to keep you happy.

Our room was trendy, brand new and clean. I loved the spacious bathroom with the amazing rain shower.  Oh the delights of having a gorgeous bathroom!

The one thing iffy about this hotel....is the housekeeping.  After checking in we went to the beach for a bit and returned to find some of the things reorganized...the towels were folded once again. Upon questioning, we found out the housekeeping came in to check if we had enough towels(weird!). The following day we returned to find a few quarters( probably 75 cents) missing from the side table. Thought it's not a huge amount it's the ethical part of it which is bothersome. We ended up keeping all our bags under lock and key when we weren't in the room.

On a lighter note, the ocean drive building has a cafe that is open 24 hrs and which is supposedly amazing... but we didn't try it. The rooftop heated pool is a show stopper.  Though small, the pool has a jacuzzi on one end. The view from the top is pretty stellar! The lack of the noisy teenage beach goers makes it a nice respite!

Overall a wonderful experience & definitely worth staying at!

So -- we stayied at The Hotel of South Beach at the end of October 2014.

Love it !  Love it !

The staff are soooo nice, front desk clerk, bellmen (big shout out for David, who always had a smile for me and a quip or two -- and yes, remembered my name - every time).

Loved the large King Atelier room (we were in the bldg. that fronts Ocean Drive).
So comfy -- lots of space to kick around in -- premium toiletries - big screen TV and rarely have I seen a room with SO MUCH closet and drawer space.  We did not even use half of it!

Loved the roof-top pool with the side cabanas -- awesome mojitos too!

My only disappointment is that the restaurant Wish is no longer there (we loved the food).

But if you are looking for a great stay in South Beach.  Love boutique style hotels --- stay here -- you'll love it!

PS Wifi was great in the hotel -- but spotty by the pool.  But who cares -- you hopefully are on HOLIDAY!   LOL

Eh. I mean it wasn't what I expected. It didn't reach the names potential.

Just by the look of the hotel, it wasn't up to par. The place looked a bit rugged and dirty.

The room was small with tiny corners. The bed was like a twin size, the bathroom was too small and it's awkward looking at yourself while sitting in the toilet (large body mirror on door), shower is tiny, etc. I ended up waking up with spider bites on my right leg; 5 to be exact.

I personally don't like this hotel but the best part was being able to wake up and automatically be on Ocean Drive. This was the only best part; being able to walk and party on the strip without driving. A couple feet away and you're already on the main strip Ocean drive.

I also did enjoy the rooftop pool and gym area too. I met a lot of friendly people up there. You can catch a good view of the beach and strip from on top! There is also a bar up there for good mojitos!

Awesome week in Miami at SOBE (South Beach). Stayed at The Hotel of South Beach at 801 Collins Ave. & 8th right smack in the middle of all the action, fun, and shopping. Our hotel was a little gem- one of the many boutique art deco places around this area, but not cheesy like so many of them. It is a very clean 3.5 property with 4 star service. It is one block back from Ocean Drive, about 1,000 yds from the ocean and park, which is a plus for noise and cleanliness. Ocean Drive is a wild, fun carnival of action, drinking, people watching and lots of laughs and you will want to be there, but it's nice to get away from it, too.

There is a very nice rooftop heated pool with gym and bar- what could be better? The drinks are really good pours and they even give you a welcome coupon for a free drink and hot popcorn in the late afternoon. You can feel part of all the SOBE energy up there without all the tourist-smack.

A couple of suggestions to our friends at The Hotel- you have a beautiful lobby and garden area but it looks desperate to have the tables set with paper placemats and in the main lobby, the weird dining set up looks like it's out of an abandoned 1950's movie. Why not get some nice furniture and move your bar in there to create some real action. All of the other bars around you are a sketchy- it's not that hard to shine in a classy, polished way. You could have a great scene there with the energy from the street and your nice porch. Also, if you are going to use straight up martini glasses and you are charging $15 bucks for a drink, please fill the glass to the rim, that's how it is done (ours were 2/3 full).

I would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to my pals.
It's a great location and lovely place to stay.

Pros:
- one block away from the beach.
- lots of shopping and restaurants around.
- not that expensive.
- swimming pool.
- beds are comfortable.
- bathrooms are clean and work well.

Cons:
- paper-thin walls and doors.
- street noise will drive you crazy if you have a room that's facing Collins.
- gym is tiny.
- swimming pool is very small.
- hotel is a bit old and could use renovations.

We had a room that was across the elevator and facing Collins Ave., it was an absolute nightmare. We called the front-desk at 2:00 AM and asked for a room far away from all the noise and they were very accommodating but that definitely made me regret my decision to come here. I should have gone back to the Betsy but this place was slightly more affordable. You get what you pay for.

I'm leaving a review as soon as I got to my room.
I was amazed and impressed by how happy and nice the people here are.

Before checking in, I was stressed out and they made everything better !

The front desk lady - Mila was just a happy, sweet and bubbly person. She was very helpful and made everything very easy and she even upgraded the room for me !
And the bell man - David was also a sweetheart.

The hotel offered a free drink after checking in, (yes, the drink was good) , the room is nice ! And the hotel is quiet just how I like it.

I just know that I'll be enjoying my stay here !
If you're looking for a nice , relaxing hotel near ocean drive and the beach and shops this one is it ! Great pool, view, location and people ! I can't describe how satisfied I am.
