Its too bad, because the hotel the potential to be so much better.  The pool is a bore and the rooms are OK, but not worth their price tag.  The location is great, right on Ocean and the food from the restaurant makes for great breakfast and lunch.  If staying here, you really need to utilize the concierge who can get you much of any reservation around town.  This hotel was way overhyped and is now dated.  Really only worth it if you get a good deal here, and that seldom happens.

Tides is located right in the middle of the main stretch of Ocean Drive but it still has a relaxed and subdued feel to it.  The rooms are very comfortable and simple in decor but upscale in amenities. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The building itself is beautiful and would gladly stay there again. There is a small open-air gym on the 9th floor with a great view of South Beach and the hotel offers breakfast pastries in the morning in the lobby.

This is modern deco minimalist hotel. The interior of the lobby is white with modern furniture. I like it. Its spacious and really open. The environment feels extremely clean. They play this jazzy lounge music in the lobby area and outside on the patio/entrance of the hotel.

We went to this hotel to eat on two occasions while vacationing. The first time we had cocktails and dessert. The alcoholic beverages were rather pricey. I enjoyed the dessert menu. They make all the ice cream in house. Some of the flavors were really interesting. I recommend trying one of the flavors at least once.

On the second night, we perused the eats up and down Collins street for about 30  mins. After sitting down and getting up 5 minutes later from an Italian themed restaurant, we decided to go back to Tides for dinner.  Dinner was really good and the presentation was done very well. I especially liked the service and how all of the waiters and waitresses were polite.

I would definitely go back to this hotel for dinner or to stay next time.

The  Tides is the best hotel I've ever stayed in. The location is amazing on ocean dr. The staffing is alway more than helpful and super friendly. The best service i've ever experience. We stayed in the amber suite which is upscale and amazing view with a private balcony. I recommend this place to everyone.

From the entrance to the bathrooms by the pool this hotel exudes elegance.   When walking into the Tides resort you get a sense of freshness that lingers with you through out your stay.  Everything is clean and tidy including the personnel who work there.  There is a lot to be said for being greeted by your name every time you walk past the lobby, a nice sense of belonging when you are away on vacation.  The bedrooms have ample closet space and the shower doesn't trickle down on you but really washes the sand away.  However there were a few things about the hotel I was not thrilled with one being the gym (yes I am that annoying girl who works out on vacation).  The gym was small and not well air-conditioned, if there were more then 4 people in there it would be too tight, yes you are correct I always found myself alone but none the less for the size of the hotel I would expect a more impressive gym.  However let me send out kudos for the Kettle Bells! My favorite work out and they had bells of varying weights *Bravo*.  Now as far as the pool, it was very well maintained and the chairs were very comfortable however there was no bar, no staff... I mean I am not saying I need to drink by the pool.. okay maybe that is what I am saying when I am on vacation.  All in all I would definitely be staying at the Tides on my next trip down to Miami, party on the strip and rest in the lap of elegance.

So fantastic!  So wonderful!  We stayed at the Tides for our honeymoon last week and it was hands down the best hotel experience I have ever had.  The decor is beautiful.  The rooms are spacious and comfortable and have and amazing view of the water.  The service was fantastic from room service, drinks at the pool, drinks at the terrace, and dinner at the restaurant.  They went out of their way to make the week special for us--providing complimentary champagne and chocolate covered strawberries on arrival and a glass of champagne at dinner.  I highly recommend the Tides and personally, I can't wait to go back!

Lovely, art deco exterior and terrific lobby.  Rooms a little spartan, service well-intentioned but not always perfectly competent.   Bizarre bathroom set-up; the toilet is not private, and only a partially opaque screen separates it from the rest of the room.

Room service is pricey but the food is superb.  We'll definitely stay at the Tides again, but it might be a good idea to send the staff in for just one more day of customer service training.

This place was amazing. I just came back from Miami (South Beach) last night and I stayed at the Tides hotel for 5 days and 4 nights.  They have just renovated (and is still in renovation with the pool and the new gym etc.. etc..) the hotel and I got to stay in one of their new OceanView suites.  The concierge service and the staff are so wonderfully pleasant.

You can get room service and full menus and alcohols 24/7.  My room came with a free espresso machine and bottles of VOSS water daily (or whenever I requested for more water)  They have an iPod radio that I could plug and charge my iPod in... and the bathroom is wonderful. It's a little silly cuz its a glass window looking in on the shower/bath but it's fine for couples and single sex friends :) Hehe, the bath and the toilet area has no "door" tho, just a single door to the bathroom area.

The heat/ac is controlled by you :) Which I LOVE, and the bed is SOOOO comfortable.  I LOOOOVE IT.

I ate here every morning for breakfast and ate dinner on the last night.  The food is delicious and amazingly fresh.  I reccommend the whole breakfast menu :) Haha.  And they accomodate to your every needs.  Less of this, none of that, more of this.  Try a fruit platter, the banana pancakes or some french toast and waffles.. or to be "healthier" some muesli, egg whites, etc... they even have lobster benedict for breakfast!!!  Dinnerwise, the chef was amazing (I misplaced his business card but I'll tell you guys his name asap when I find it) and the pear tarte dessert is to DIE FOR. The grilled scallops were the best scallops I've ever tasted and so was their salmon.  Try some spicy littlenecks as an appetizer as well :) The entrees come with a set of 3 sea salts (volcano ash, regular and clay red, I LOVE the clay one) for you to sprinkle onto your liking :)

The lounge (outside and inside) is full of people at night.  The popsicle martinis are to DIE for.  Try the blackberry one, delicious.  A little fruit popsicle on a cinnamon stick that you can eat, lick, suck on and melt into your fruity martinis.  There's a whole slew of different tropical ones to get.. along with a full bar and their famous mojitos!

I will definitely be staying here again next time I visit :)

This is by far the best experience we have had at a 4+ star hotel in South Beach. The staff were all outstanding Lenny who greeted us, Raj and Francisco the concierge staff, Miguel who facilitated a late night meal, the food and beverage manager, the valet who delivered Advil - All of the staff without exception were awesome. The room far exceeded our expectations, wonderful view, huge for South Beach, clean and tastefully decorated. Location was fabulous a classy hotel close enough to all the action.  We were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary and couldn't have enjoyed it more. Thanks King and Grove Tides and staff - well done!

Strictly the bar:

This Art Deco icon is worth spending the extra bucks to life a little better.  The specialty drinks form the bar and a couple appetizers will have you and your guest thanking you for the good times.  I had the passion fruit popsicle martinis they come with a passion fruit popsicle wrapped onto a stick of cinnamon, my guests had the Everglades champagne which was the house champagne with some midori in it.  As for food we ate alligator ribs and the calamari, both were prepared very well.  The interior delivers an old timey feel of class, the front side porch gives you a Sobe Hollywood feel.  Overall this place is above average price range but worth the pennies.

This hotel reminds me of Bali - a clean and minimalistic approach an earthy biege, gold and giant turtle shell theme decorated tastefully. Outdoor "seen and be seen" seatings facing Ocean Dr and the beach. An in-house DJ spinning some low tempo lounge music. In the foyer there is a small lounge and bar area. I ordered the passion popsicle martini. The popsicle is just a nice touch for the humid and hot climate of South Beach. Apparently at happy hour it was $8 and usually it's $16. It was nice too a waiter came by with little snack size of amuse bouche and he wanted me take more!! haha. Good service overall. I would like to stay at this hotel sometime!

The Tides is definitely the nicest hotel at which I've stayed on South Beach, though that's not saying much because I found the rooms at The Delano, Shore Club and Loews to be mediocre at best.  But the rooms at The Tides are lovely - mine was big and very nicely appointed with a very nice bathroom.  The common areas leave a little to be desired (kinda yucky elevators, the pool was small with unappealing views etc), but I really liked my room.  The hotel staff was wonderful - efficient, friendly and very helpful.  The restaurant staff could learn from them since the service there was horrendous - SLOW and confused.  The food was fine -not great, but far from bad.

So why only 3 stars when I thought the rooms were so nice?  The price.  my room was $695.  For that price, the whole experience should have knocked my socks off and it definitely didn't.  The right price should have been a couple hundred bucks less.  It just wasn't twice as nice as other places along the beach - it just wasn't.  It's certainly better, but not enough to charge that price.  I likely won't be coming back.

Again, this review is strictly for the bar.

Tucked away in the back corner of the hotel lobby is a beautiful little bar they call the Coral Bar.  Cesar, the bartender, makes both amazing drinks and great conversation.  I enjoyed a lychee martini with him while lambasting Bush and those aholes who voted for Prop 8 in California.  I also love that they serve small dishes of olives, almonds and parmesan cheese cubes gratis.  A little yummy something to munch while sipping something strong.

The decor of the bar is jaw dropping. Truly astonishing.  Pop in here for a little treat. The people next to me were all having one of the many versions of a popsicle cocktail. the house specialty. It looked too sweet for me, but most things are being that I am hardened and bitter.  If you pop in here on a trip to SOBE, try one of Cesar's concoctions.  You will be glad you did.

Nice modern yet minimalist hotel with well-decorated indoor lounge that matches those of its outdoor lounge.  Didn't stay in the hotel but I did enjoy drinks with friends right on Ocean Drive.  It was a day or two before Christmas so the crowds weren't heavy at all while we were there.  I loved the ambient lounge music they played and the neutral palette of the plush seating that made people watching and breeze-enjoying more comfortable.  While the drinks were creative with exotic martinis accented with accompanying popsicles on cinnamon sticks, $15/drink was on the steep side for me.  But that's what you expect for SoBe, eh?

I especially love how pretentious this place is with the rental ferrari they parked right in front of their entrance in hopes of luring the more affluent into their lounge.  My goodness people - if you're going to fake impressive at least hire someone NOT wearing your hotel uniform to drive your rented bling car!  Typical SoBe mentality that I cannot handle living here but I'll tolerate as a visitor.  It's what you expect when visiting so it's all good.  Not bad for Ocean Drive, but for what is there and what I pay for, it would get more stars if it were not as obviously pretentious and closer to the beach.

OMG!  This place I really love, it has a beautiful view of the ocean on Ocean drive and the outdoor seating area is so luxe and cool.  I came here for dinner a couple times I loved it so much.

We sat outside on the balcony, so Ocean Drive is a full-on view!  It was evening so the sunset was amazingly romantic!  The seating is very comfortable and inviting, makes you want to dress up and look sexy for your date, and "go out"... know what I mean?
The wait staff are extremely professional and gracious.  I asked for my fave martini and they made it perfectly, two of those babies and I'm ready for lots of fun!
We ordered from the appetizer menu, had the Australian Wagyu beef sliders, calamari and the organic baby arugala salad.  So delicious!

It is a little on the expensive side, the appetizers were normal price actually, the drinks were expensive though, but the best I've had in a long time.  I will definitely come back and next time with a hot date!

Stayed here to celebrate my wife's birthday. Great hotel -- ocean views, well kept (nothing tired or worn) and amazing service from the entire staff. The Tides exudes luxury, class and high-end service amid extremely tasteful art deco design and architecture.

The room was spacious, had a great balcony and a offered stunning view of the ocean and surroundings.  The personal assistant / customer-focused model is more than just marketing speak here -- definitely a throwback to a bygone era. The entire staff is truly at your beck and call.  (Though there was no pressure for gratuities from anyone during the entire stay, remember that all service professionals rely on tips.)

In terms of negatives, there is nothing they could do better; however, being the nicest hotel in the area, by definition, means that there are several lesser quality locations surrounding it.

This review is only for the restaurant the King and Grove - not the Tides hotel.

Wanting a nice, relaxing lunch during our honeymoon, we stopped in here because the patio looked nice and we liked the fact that were weren't being hassled to come and sit down.

At first the service was fine, the coconut ceviche was great, but after that, things went downhill. We both had sandwiches, I had a chicken sandwich and my husband some sort of fish sandwich, I don't exactly remember. They were both flavorless and really nothing special for the price. We had between 4-5 different servers who all acted like they couldn't be bothered. My water glass was empty for most of the meal and no one could be bothered to refill my $4 diet coke - pricey even by SoBe standards.

The only good thing about the meal was the ceviche and in general the food was sub-par, way over priced, and the service was among the worst we had during our trip.

In my opinion, this is probably the best kept secrets on south beach. There's rumors of $20-25 drinks here on 'the strip,' but not here. Coming from LA I fully expect $10. The drink were very creative and reasonably priced. We all enjoyed the outdoor seating.

The Tides Hotel is absolutely one of the best boutique hotels we have stayed in.

The Tides is definitely worth every penny. The location alone on Ocean Avenue, in front of the beach. The hotel's decor, the service, the cleanliness, the rooms!

We spent five days at The Tides and upon arrival, we were greeted by the friendly doorman, checked in and escorted to our room with the impeccable view of the ocean. Provided yummy welcoming drinks.

Our room was exactly like the website. It was spacious, clean, and purely heavenly.

The happy hour at the Tides start at 2pm daily. Special drinks that include martinis, champagne, red/white wine, mojitos start at $2 at 2pm. $3 at 3pm and so forth.

The menu is delicious. Try their crab cakes and burger.

The concierge! My husband and I were already in love with The Tides but Francisco titled "personal assistant" was the cherry on top. Not only did he recommend the most delicious restaurants for us, he really took that extra step to help make our anniversary special.

We definitely be a guest at The Tides in the future.

This review isn't for the Tides hotel. It's for the Coral Bar inside the Tides. Yelp decided the Coral didn't deserve it's own listing and I can understand why.

Basically, the operators of the Tides took a storage closet, dressed it up with a couple of leather seats, a beautiful glass breakfront, an nice wood bar and a big screen TV. Then they decided to call it a cocktail lounge. The place is so small that 8 people might be the capacity of the room. It is so small that the bartender takes your order and then goes someplace else to make your drinks. My studio apartment in Manhattan is bigger than the Coral, but the Coral looks much nicer.

The good news is that the drinks that they make (wherever they really make them) are very good. Add to that very good (if slightly confused)  service and the ability to take your drinks to the lush patio in front of the hotel and you will quickly forget the storage closet and focus on the good things in life.

Have fun.

I had a great time on July 4th, sitting here sipping beers and eating delicious sliders on the Ocean Drive front patio.  This place had excellent views of the fireworks, and seems to always attract people from all over the world.  In the 5 hours we spent there, I met a family from Leon, France, and a group from Italy and Germany.  Not to mention, there was a beautiful family sitting near us from Venezuela.

The tiered levels of the lounge area is quite extraordinary.  And the interior of the hotel, well, certainly represents 'tides'.  Lots of beach wood accentuated by some rather interesting modern sculpture.  Don't fear the turtle shells on the walls (I almost had a heart attack) -- they are made of fiberglass (and very, very well done, might I add... they look authentic).

Our waitress was lovely, and took my German friend's constant battering 'Where's the Miller Light!' all night.

We stopped here mid afternoon for drinks and apps mid week. It was the only place not obnoxiously pestering people on the sidewalk to come in. Great relaxed view, good drinks, and nice seating area. Guac and chips were good. Service was a little slow, but we got an awesome surprise when we got out check and all of our drinks were half off for happy hour!

King ands Grove will be my default location for fine food when I come back to Miami Beach.   I was there for 3 days and had 3 meals, and they were all great.

The outdoor seating allows plenty of people watching while you eat.

The wait staff was very professional and helpful.

It is not cheap, but you definitely get what you pay for.  Great food and great service.

They automatically add an 18% gratuity to your bill, but honestly, I did not mind.

Lovely boutique hotel.  Rooms are awesome

The only downside really is that unfortunately its located in a crazy loud part of sobe , there is a really loud techno drag beach show on the front sidewalk every afternoon with lots of heavy drinking, loud music and people yelling.  It's a shame because the tides people really get it, the decor is beautiful.  I think creating more exclusivity of the property would serve them well( I e block themselves off from the street more with terracing ).

We had 3 meals here , 2 were ok 1 was Soso.   Breakfast bacon was undercooked and not tasty, buttermilk pancakes were fabulous.  The club sandwich was good not great.

We love the pool area, very quiet and exclusive.

Room was beautiful. Service was mostly good.  I think they need more business to pay for great service.  I really hope this place makes it.

One thing that's annoying is they say they have beach umbrellas , but it's just outsourced to a company on the beach that you have to walk down 200 yards and then wait in line to get an umbrella.  Not the most relaxing beach experience, there are a lot of people littering and drinking on this part of the beach, so it's not what I would call "exclusive".

We visited Miami in September 2011. We booked the Tides South Beach after reading a write-up in a Wallpaper Travel Guide.

The hotel is located far enough up South Beach to be away from the tacky sea front restaurants and bars, yet close enough to walk back to after a night out.

The front is a huge stepped terrace, with smart seating and sun shades. Staff in white shirts buzz around, tending to guests and replenishing drinks. It feels special.

We were checked in in our actual room. The girl on the front desk came up with us, closely followed by two complimentary house cocktails. The room was a standard ocean view double, but it felt more like a suite. All marble and natural fabrics and a high, ceiling with exposed beams. Massive, plush bed. Walk-in wardrobe/dressing room. Large sofa and armchair. And as for the view ... incomparable.

A walk from our room to the sea was under 10 minutes.

The room came with a daily breakfast of limitless fresh fruit, yoghurts, pastries, coffee, teas, mineral water. We had this sitting out on the front terrace, watching Miami wake up. One we were there and a shower rolled over. Without a word, umbrellas were brought out to us so we wouldn't get wet when we walked back to the hotel. Another time we expressed an interest in a day trip to the Everglades. We were wary of the kiosk sales guys doing excursions. The hotel organised a trip for us, for less than the kiosk guy's rate and charged it to our room. We we waited out front to be picked up, a member of staff chatted with us and then went and got us bottles of water for our trip. The service was understated and faultless. And the staff all had a great memory for faces. They greeted us as guest all the time.

The Tides has a lovely, medium size pool for guest and they serve delicious bar food there. There is also a huge roof terrace.

The hotel isn't showy or glitzy, but it has real style. I can't wait stay with them again.

Please read this review thoroughly and carefully to grasp a full understanding of what your experience may be when residing at The Tides Hotel.

First, understand that the hotel and the restaurant are separate entities. This review is for the hotel only. I reviewed the restaurant below my hotel review.

* every room has an ocean front view (based on how the hotel is built.)
* our room was exceptionally HUGE (beyond the size of a nice, standard hotel)
* the closets and bathroom are also sizable
* front desk staff are very friendly and accommodating (hotel review only)
* Our room had a Nespresso machine in it. I don't know if all the rooms have that, though. You may want to ask the front desk.
* The hotel is an FHR hotel (Fine Hotels & Resorts). This is an American Express program that allows Amex Platinum members to get certain perks at hotels that qualify as FHR hotels. If you don't have Amex Platinum, then ignore this bullet point.  If you do have it, then please expect to be disappointed by the typical FHR experience you are used to.

* the hotel was built in the 1930's so there are NO balconies in the rooms AND you CANNOT open the window to enjoy the beach air.
* For the average price per night, the hotel overall does not "feel" expensive or high end. It is well done with nice decor, but I have experienced much better for  a bit less money
* The location of the hotel is near the more southern end of the beach and there are a lot more of the "rowdy" Spring Break type people kids on that end. The beach is within steps of the hotel but Ocean Drive sits between the hotel and the beach. Therefore, you will have to cross two lanes of traffic to get to the beach. However, you are still closer to the beach than any other hotel.
* The hotel is old, so the elevators are slow and small. Also, the walls are paper thin. You WILL hear every sound all the time, including the extremely loud music which pumps from the restaurant all day until at least midnight.
* there is NO privacy in the room. So,if you are traveling with your spouse, no problem. But if you are traveling with a friend or a family member, etc....be prepared to watch the person showering and using the toilet via the huge, clear window that separates the bathroom from the bedroom. AND the toilet area has no separate door, sooooooooo.......yeah, enjoy that.
* Gym is very small and not that well equipped. My husband and I have a bigger gym in our own home.
* The pool is also small and there is no Jacuzzi. Very simple poolside experience. No music, no energy. Just a rectangular pool with poolside chairs. That's it.

* Bring your own pods for the Nespresso machine. Otherwise, be prepared to pay $2.00 per pod that they provide. Also, run water through the machine at least 10 times to clean it out before you make your actual cup of coffee.
* Rinse the dust out of your cups as well. No, housekeeping does not do this.
* BRING a set of noise-cancellation headphones. Not those cheap wire ones. I'm talking BOSE headsets that require a battery to block out the noise. If you don't do this, you will NOT be able to sleep or function. The hotel is LOUD.

* Food is basic, not worth the money at all. Drinks are weak but average around $15 each, service is HORRIBLE ! Do not eat, drink, or spend time at this restaurant.

Really good. It was citric, had hints of jalapeño, mango, and guava fruit bits.  The coconut milk lightly coated the thin strips of fish, calamari, and plump prawn.  A nice starter.

Seafood and Grilled Jicama Salad:
Awesome.  The calamari was crispy, the squid tentacles were tender and not fishy, the prawns were simple, boiled, chilled, and split in half.  Served with avocado mousse, orange, and radish on a bed of arugula.

Lunch Pre fixe menu:

1. Lobster Bisque:
Creamy tomato base soup with a couple lobster ravioli topped with fried tortilla strips and paired with a roll.  Descent.  It was too hot for soup that day though.  My friend liked it because she was sick.

2. Shrimp Scampi:
Shrimp sauteed with garlic and spices with linguini.  I liked the flavor of the shrimp, but the sauce was just melted butter and it pooled at the bottom of the bowl.

3. Key Lime Pie and Mango Sorbet:
Ok.  The pie could have been lime-ier.

Freshly squeezed fruit juice!  The apple was my favorite.  My friends got carrot and orange.  You could make any combination you want.  Delicious.

Service was excellent.  Our server was really attentive and accommodating.  Her timing was good and she was really polite.

I liked this place because the menu was different from the food offered at all the other restaurants on Ocean Drive.  Great service.  Nice decor, and a nice experience all around.

The Tides South Beach was probably one of the best hotel experiences I have ever had . Every employee was so attentive, friendly, professional and genuinely caring and treated us like royalty. The service itself I could give 5 stars.

They are conveniently located on Ocean Avenue, a beautiful beachfront hotel. The lobby, hallways, and room were all really nice, modern and clean. The cleanliness itself I could give 5 stars also.

They even provided complimentary beach chairs and umbrella and towels.

The Tides South Beach is an amazing hotel. It's completely underrated.

I worked with K&G for months to put on a 2-day event for the Trustees of a science non-profit. It was the nicest room I had ever stayed in and even a life-time Trustee said it was the best he had ever been in for these annual meetings. The basic room which they call "Oceanfront Studio" -- every room in the hotel is oceanfront -- was breathtaking and enormous. The bathrooms belong in a design magazine; the quirky pieces, such as the zebra rug (fake, if you are concerned) and "petrified tree-stump" coffee-tables, do not take away from the relaxing resort feel; and rooms are even equipped with walk-in closets. Much of the event was held in the "Tides Suite," the top-floor penthouse, which is even more impressive.

Every hotel staff member I encountered scored extremely high in customer service. Actually, it was the best customer service I've ever experienced. They really went out of the way to fulfill my requests. The rooms include a drink cooler but no refrigerator. However, upon request, staff will provide one to your room at no extra cost.

This place had one of the best Mojitos i've ever had.

The staff is really friendly and the outdoor patio is really nice.

If you're going def stop for a drink albeit pricey but totally worth it.

The Tides Hotel has the most incredible service I've ever experienced.  The staff makes it a point to anticipate and attend to your ever possible need.  They also refer to you by name and are very warm and genuine.  The hotel rooms and property is also superb. There's absolutely nothing I can say negative.

This review is for the bar/restaurant.

Miami mojito is excellent. Different take with grapefruit and orange juice.  Other cocktails as well as appetizers were good.  Chips stale but the guacamole was great.  If everything was $5 cheaper this would be a 4-5 star review.  Great seating area outside, upgrade from the typical crowded/touristy South Beach bars and restaurants.  Would be particularly great to hang out with a group on a nice day or evening if you can afford it.

Stayed at this hotel this past weekend on a super last minute weekend trip to South Beach. Amex set the reservations up and offered a deal with a free meal and late check out. Considering the options nearby I think we chose the best hotel. The hotel is right on Ocean Drive STEPS from the beach. We were upgraded to a larger room when we got there. The room was big and had a king size bed. The bed was comfortable. The view from the window was the beach, couldn't beat that.
I loved the small pool area this hotel has. I like that the hotel is small but feels very Grand. The lobby and all the decor throughout was really nice. Actually reminds me of what I am trying to accomplish with my apartment with all the modern and natural wood elements.

Every staff member we encountered were friendly and helpful. The drinks here were really good, they sent up two welcome cocktails to our room upon arrival and they were delicious! it was a cantaloupe martini soooo good!

I loved all the details of this hotel, from the basil and lemon infused water pitchers by the pool, the decor, and just general feel to it.

I would definitely stay here again.

When we arrived in Miami, we checked into our hotel, walked to the beach and had to put our feet in the water. After all that, we were starving, so we went to a place my sister had been once before.

When I arrived at the Tides, I checked in and was offered a free Mojito. Sure we were having breakfast, but what better way to start the day with a fresh mojito. It is my BIRTHDAY vacation after all.

We ordered a pot of coffee and both went for the Eggs Benedict, my sister had the one with smoked salmon on top and I ordered the regular ham version. Both came with a side of grilled asparagus. It was really good. We were pretty hungry after our flight.

We sat and people watched while enjoying the patio. Music blares from both neighboring restaurants but it's so nice out there, we could have stayed there all day. The hotel is really nice too, loved everything about this place and the location rocks!

We came with high expectations and we were still blown away!! The level of service is truly incredible. By that I mean that the Tides greets you with such warmth and enthusiasm you really feel welcome. It is not a pretentious greeting, just very intimate and inviting. Leslie met us at the curb and that is when our vacation really began. Leslie is an absolute treasure for this establishment. He whisked our bags away and guided us in to meet our personal assistant who took us to our gorgeous rooms.

The Hotel is an historic Art Deco property and as such is relatively small in scale and the elevator is aged and tiny by today's standards. That only made the experience more special in my mind but be aware this is not some new property with state of the art building amenities. We had two very large adjoining rooms on the 7th floor. The kids had two queen size beds and a big window overlooking Ocean Drive and the beach below. My husband and I enjoyed a large King bed room with a sofa and two windows looking out to the ocean. The furnishings were as pictured on their web site. Very fun and relaxing all the same...with huge flat screens which the kids loved. We were supplied with delicious cocktails to enjoy while we unpacked.

I have to tell you that our needs were met in every way imaginable by the Tides---from dinner reservations, beach chairs and umbrellas to a late checkout and Voss bottled water!!! While we did overhear one couple complaining about noise we never had any trouble with noise. The Tides is located right smack on Ocean Drive so some noise may be inevitable but with the quiet hum of the air conditioning at night we never heard a peep! On a positive note the bed sheets felt like silk and the beds were like feathers --they were amazing! I wouldn't stay anywhere else now that I have been to the Tides!

The service at this restaurant was horrible. After  being seated by the hostess it took about 20 minutes to see our waiter. It took 15 minutes for the drinks to come out and another 45 minutes for the meal to arrive. Our waiter apologized for taking a break during our service, which was the reason our food was cold by the time it reached the table. We did get our meal for half the original check, but we were still charged full gratuity for the awful service ($24.50 for a $65.00 check).

This review is with regard to their restaurant.

Be aware that the restaurant which serves the hotel's guests is arguably the worst establishment in south beach.

Absolutely terrible service matched with horrible food.

It will come as no surprise that while neighboring restaurants are busy, this place is nearly empty. To add insult to injury- they tack on an automatic 20% tip. I suspect that experience has taught them that the only way to get tipped for bad service is to make tipping mandatory.

You've been warned.

Ok here's the situation. This is one of the nicest hotels in the thick of South Beach! Unfortunately - it appears to be poorly run. The pool area is sweet and truly a benefit - HOWEVER there are rarely fresh towels and upon requesting more towels - they just plain don't deliver. There was fresh lemon water by the pool but two days straight no cups. In addition, the pool area is showing signs of being "run down". I almost went around the pool and picked up used towels that were sitting there since am? But there was no bin to place them in (and really I'm a paying guest at a sweet price - must I?). Rooms were nice with water views. They charge for the Nespresso pods at $2.00 a pod (really? I use them at home all the time they run about .75 each). The restaurant food was "ok" not bad but the service was extremely slow. I don't understand who has their eye on the ball? I travel a lot - all over the world - I would be hard pressed to recommend this place or return. Sadly.

My husband I had wanted to stay at this hotel for many years.  We were able to book the room 2 days before.  We were not disappointed.  This is a beautiful boutique hotel. From the moment the valet met us in front of the hotel till the moment we checked out we felt welcomed and cared for.  This is a great hotel because of it's location and the cafe seating on the steps to have a cocktail or a snack and watch the day go by. We also had a light dinner on the sidewalk and enjoyed live music of a  flamenco duo of dancer and guitar player.  It was magical with a warm breeze blowing, music in the air and all the pretty people walking.  When we returned to our room there was a faint sound of music but it just added to the ambiance  I loved this hotel and would return again.

My review is for the restaurant.

We came on a Friday night and tried to call the hotel and make a reservation for dinner and the front desk kept hanging up on us. So we walked up and there was no wait. The food was good. We ordered the wings which were delicious. Then I ordered the chicken carbonara pasta. I honestly don't think the price matched with the portion size at all it was a small portion .

Our waiter however was so SLOW! He took about 20 minutes to bring drinks!!! The food came 40 minutes after the drinks. The food temp was luke warm, like as if it was  sitting out for a bit. He seemed busier talking to the other waiters instead of focusing on us. Mind you this was a slow night. The dinner took close to 2 hours for a party of 5. I guess since the tip is already added to the bill, he didn't bother giving great service.

We arrived at our hotel, King and Grove, by 1pm.  Our check in time was 3pm so we planned to leave or bags at the front desk and to enjoy a late lunch but to our surprise they let us check in early.  We were shown to our room which was amazing!  From the moment we checked in we were treated like VIP and the room made me feel like a million dollars.  We stayed in room 302 on the third floor. I know reviews warn to stay on a higher floor but I was so thankful a room was ready early that I didn't say a word and I'm glad I didn't.  What makes room 302 special is that the window opens and it has a little ledge beneath.  I read in other reviews that the windows on the higher floor don't open so we enjoyed this and we enjoyed all the noises.  The club next door is super noisy but it's amazing (nightly drag queen show) and does quiet down around midnight.  Pros and cons of this hotel/room?

Pros = The window opens, iPod charger in room, free beach setup with luxury loungers and beach towels. Noon checkout!  Free water by the pool, free welcome drinks, and the friendliest staff.  The room is beautiful, the bed is comfortable, walk in closet, right on the strip, gorgeous views, and the security!  Not only do they have attentive staff in the front lobby but you can't actually access the elevator without a hotel card.  There are so many pros, I would recommend this hotel without hesitation.

Cons= There are cons of course.  They were not deal breakers for me but here they are so you can decide.  No privacy in the bathroom as there is a glass window from the shower to the bedroom.  South Beach is very segregated.  We had some super hot gay men nearby but in our section of the beach we had a lot of bums and gangsters.  The people watching is part of the fun but since we went with our 6 year old I would have preferred a different section of the beach.  We walked down to the end and found a family atmosphere farther South near the beach that connects to the Hilton.  The noise wasn't that bad from outside but the noise from the hotel hall was unbearable at times.  The hotel should provide a fan or a noise machine to drown this out.

**Tip** drink the in room coffee which has a modest $2 per packet charge.  This is half the price you will pay for coffee in the hotel restaurant.

This is our second year in a row staying at the Tides. We came for a girls vacation last year as the result of a package deal being offered on Travelocity. We loved it so much that we returned this year!!!

This is one of the nicest, cleanest, largest hotels I've ever stayed at...and I've stayed at a lot of five star hotels. It's just top notch. Everyone is helpful and polite. The lobby area is beautiful. The room is chic and comfy. There is a walk in closet with drawers and plenty of space to hang things. There is a safe available. The King size bed is huge and sooooo comfortable. The views are amazing and I LOVE that you can actually open the window and get a real sense of everything going on outside. But at the same time, as soon as you close the window, you can barely hear anything even with all of the shenanigans still going on down below. All it takes is a sound machine, some soft music or the tv being on and you won't hear anything at all. And they have to cut everything off at a certain time anyway, so this doesn't go on all night. My Mom is a very light sleeper and we were concerned that the nightlife would bother her but it didn't at all! Additionally, the blinds they have darken the room so the lights aren't bothersome, either!

The housekeeping crew will get you absolutely anything you need. They do an excellent job on the room. When we first walked in after check in, our room smelled of bleach which is such an awesome, clean scent to me! They provided extra towels upon request. They have a turn down service. They mop the tile floor every day. They were excellent.

We arrived an hour before check in time but were still able to get into our room right away. Mike brought our bags up for us immediately and told us a little bit about their accommodations. We were given a ticket for 2 complimentary signature drinks which could be used at any time during our stay. We used them on our last night and chatted with the bartender for a while who was super friendly and provided excellent service. We actually intended on going outside with our drinks but we enjoyed him so much that we stayed.

You get chairs, chair sheets, an umbrella and towels every day when you go to the beach. You just give your name and room number and the Boucher Brothers do the rest of the work and set everything up for you which is awesome! Please tip these young men! We saw so many people not tipping and felt awful. It is HOT out there and they are busting their hump for hours dragging chairs and canopies back and forth...show them some love. They earn it.

We love the location of the Tides on Ocean Drive. It's in a great spot. The decor, both inside and out, is so classy and beautiful. It is next to the Palace which for me, is a HUGE plus because I love watching their shows every night!

We also like the security of the elevator/hotel. When you get on in the lobby, you have to put you room key in before it will move. This ensures that no random people are wandering the halls.

This year our shower did leak. I had read reviews about that last year and it didn't happen but this year it definitely did. I'm not talking a little leak, either. It's kind of a half shower door so the water squirts out somehow. It's definitely a design flaw. There's nothing you can do about it and it won't really be a problem for you since you aren't the one cleaning it. It's unfortunate but like I said, there's nothing you can really do. Other than the leaking, the shower is gorgeous! Great lighting, a ledge that makes shaving super easy. Excellent water pressure. There's a shaving mirror inside for men. And they provide C.O. Bigelow toiletries which I really enjoyed. I usually hate showering in any shower other than my own but I LOVED taking showers in here after a long day at the beach. Again, so relaxing. And they have two robes in each room so after you're finished, you can get cozy and relax.

If I had to say one negative thing about the hotel it would be about the food. It's just not good. And not fresh. That's the one thing I think they need to improve on. They have beautiful seating inside and outside and I think they would have so many more guests for breakfast, lunch and dinner if the food was actually good. I will say the orange juice was so fresh that it tasted like I stuck a straw into an orange and started sucking. The Belgian waffles were just ok. The turkey bacon was just ok. My mom liked the French toast. Last year we had the hash browns and they were awful so we avoided them this year. Last year we also tried the fried calamari and pizza and they both tasted totally frozen and awful so we didn't bother with trying any other meals here other than breakfast one day. The server we had was very nice but service is very slow. I remember it being slow last year as well.

All in all, this is a gorgeous hotel that I would HIGHLY recommend. My Mom and I even talked about making this an annual girls trip because we love it so much.
