This was the most awful experience of my life. I went for my 27th birthday. The big headed bouncers at Wall security took my ID, pulled me out of the line, accused me of having fake identification, held me in security in front of wall, called the police, degraded and talked down to me, and not once apologized after the 90 minutes of complete harassment and embarrassment when the police confirmed my information was indeed right and checked out. I've never felt so disgusted in my life. Spending $700 a night for the room does not guarantee you the WOW service they preach, maybe WOW WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY. Not only is the service rude, disrespectful, and awful, if there is a celebrity at the pool, you can expect to never get your food and $18.00 cup of ice, but they also add a 20% automatic tip for "your convenience" paying for their arrogance. I am so disappointed I wasted a vacation here. The did however move me to another hotel because I was so upset and still haven't dropped the $2,000 hold on my card for one night. I will NEVER go back there. Disgusted

Amazing. One of the most beautiful, comfortable, fun hotels I've ever stayed in. I cannot say enough about the enormous rooms. When you walk in, it will take your breath away - big bed, big lounge area with bar set up on the table, the curtains blowing open to show a gorgeous ocean view. Big bathroom with lots of Bliss products. Stay here.

The hotel is a great property, but definitely depends on what you want.  If you want an upscale party place, it's a great hotel.  Like most of the newer W hotels though, the initial impression is high end, but the construction is somewhat OK.  In the rooms, you can hear doors closing, chairs moving, etc in other rooms, so I'd say the quality is OK.

Regarding the Wall Lounge though that's associated with this hotel, while they try to build it up as a very happening, high end spot in South Beach, I'd rate it as very mediocre.  It's more of a teeny bopper place.  We were there on a Tues night, a night that was supposed to be one of their "hot nights" and it was very disappointing.  If you want a place where it's mostly a 20's crowd all trying to be someone they definitely are not, then this is the place.  The DJ was poor, would play one or two good songs and they really lose the crowd.  We were at the Florida Room at the Delano over the weekend and I'd rate that much better than this place.  Also, the door man were pretty rude on the way in and on the way out.  In general, I'd say the entire group thought they were "the shit", but they could take a lot of lessons from a lot of other clubs in town that we've had a much classier experience at.

Like the hotel, the pool and staff, but won't go back to The Lounge.

This hotel is amazing.  Great location?  Check.  Huge, beautiful rooms?  Check.  Great bar scene?  Check.

I would definitely come back here to stay again.  The cabanas poolside are great during the day, and the Living Room is a perfect place to start a night.  Mr. Chow was OK...although I wouldn't recommend it unless you're too lazy to leave the hotel.

Overall, this is a great place.

Like any other W's, this W is equally chic and modern. Great view of the beach (and Gansevoort next door). Rooms are gorgeous, with a gold pig sitting on a table (huh?), two flat screen TV's because one just can't do, plush bed, and clean big bathrooms. The pool bar and indoor bar are connected together, and plenty of fun crowd. I'm going to W if I'm down in Miami Beach.

Just spend 5 days getting some sun in SOBE.  This new W rocks.  From the art on the walls to the babes at the pool it can't be beat.  I like it better than the Setia.  The food could be improved at the pool, best thing on the menu is the flatbreads. Request a room on the south side, it gets more sun and has better views....

W South Beach is amazing... This property is by far the best W hotel I have ever been in... The service, the pool, the rooms are like no other. If your trying to decide on two hotels and your contemplating on where to stay, spend the extra money and stay at the W. The second you check out and walk out the door, you immediately pull out the calendar and start planning your return trip.. Seriously.. this place is awesome!

Didn't stay here but probably the best hotel on Collins Ave.  Came here for drinks with friends (veryyyyyyyy pricey, $20 a drink) and then partied at their night club, Wall.  Probably the best time I've had in a long time.  Well it better be, cause my wallet def saw a good time.  If they lowered their drink prices it would def be a 5 star in my eyes.  Their bar prices def drive people to want to pre-game in their rooms like back in college.  Not my idea of vacation.  Want to have a good time without breaking the bank.

I absolutely enjoyed every minute of my stay at the W South Beach.  If you want to really enjoy your vacation and splurge...this is the place for you.  The staff is very attentive, the hotel is very chic, the pool and beach were amazing.  We really enjoyed the pool/beach menu, very healthy choices.  They also offer a complimentary Acura to drive you within a 5 mile radius, which is pretty nice.  The rooms all have an ocean view and the decor  is very Miami.  If you really want to experience South Beach, I would definitely recommend this property.

BEAUTIFUL HOTEL! From the moment I stepped in, I was in awe of this place. From the adorable Sanrio characters outside, to the lobby area, to our room, the pool and their beach, I LOVED IT ALL!! My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary and decided to stay at the W from reading all their rave reviews.  It definitely lived up to the hype.  They even upgraded our room and sent us a card and chocolate congratulating us on our anniversary.  Our room was very clean, even had house music playing when we walked in :) The showers are amazing and I love their Bliss products!! W has such beautiful decor giving it the chic and modern feel to it all... very South Beach! And I loved how Mr. Chow's was just downstairs! We took advantage of the Acura service which was so convenient and our driver really gave us great recommendations and suggestions to try out in Miami.  They give you complimentary beach chairs and it feels so exclusive having access to the beach right behind our hotel.  I didn't even realize their gift shop til I was leaving but they have all the brands I love: Siwy, Naven... FABULOUS!! Overall, you pay for what you get and W definitely did not disappoint! I highly recommend this hotel and will come again!!

South Beach must be the perfect location for a W-Hotel, and so I was a bit surprised to find out that this is actually a brand new W Hotel. But nevertheless, W and South Beach are a perfect fit. The hotel is amazing, and it easily tops my list of W hotels and other hotels. It is fun, relaxing, and has great staff.

We spend four four nights there last weekend and it was one of the most relaxing vacations I have ever had ... and while Miami one reason for that I have to say that the W was a big part of that.
The hotel looks great, its not too big, not too small. the marbles hallways feel clean and cool, which is nice in the summer (and probably in the winter too). the rooms are big, huge. it felt a bit like having two rooms the way they separated the sleeping area of the room from the sitting area ... plus the two TVs gave it an additional separation. The bath was large as one can expect from a W. But what topped all of this was the balcony which was the size of a NY apartment with amazing views of the ocean and Miami.
Staff was great. Always helpful, never pretentious. There wasn't one point where we had any problems with the staff. to the contrary: we initially got a room on the sixth floor but noise from the pool area was a bit loud, plus our balcony door didn't close properly. Without any hassle did they provide us with a new room on the 16th floor.
the pool area, and the beach were divine. I have never been a beach fan, but this trip made one out of me. it was probably a mix of the friendliness of the W staff and the fact that the beach was not too packed because of low season that it was just extremely fun to have a seat at the water.
food was also great. we ordered a room service salad once which was extremely good.
so overall, i can't wait to get back to the W South Beach. I can't recommend this place enough.

btw, someone said the beach is dirty, that is true... there was a band of sea weed between the end of the beach and the very beginning of the water ... once you made your way through that a couple of feet into the  shallow, warm water you were fine though ... plus this seemed to be a problem of South Beach since I saw that pretty much everywhere.

    1st day:
-Check in as Platinum members and it's our honeymoon.
-Our last names got a bit mixed. Not too big a deal...just added  another 1/2 hour to check in.......   -I understand.
-Champaign was promised to be waiting.... not there.   -Not a problem
-Call to the front desk for the champaign.......
-2 hours later, got sick of waiting for champaign.....  -No problem.
-Took a shower to clean up after a long day in the airport. Only hand soap. -No problem....
     - First time without shoes. The floor was slathered in some kind of slippery lotion. To the point that we were sliding and losing balance in places..(I know the hotel is on the beach, and people go back to their hotel afterwards with lotion on, but we kind've expect to have a clean room when we checked in). The Room is actually kinda nice   -Still, no "real" problem.
-We're out if the shower for a good 10 min. and someone unlocks the door and walks in (no knocks at all.)..We're naked and scrambling to get our towels on to fend off our intruder....It's our champaign.- Not pissed, but a bit annoyed.
-Champaign was had, and we stayed in to recuperate from our previous week in New Orleans.  -A bit annoyed, but I come from a service industry background. So, not annoyed enough to create an issue.
-We go to sleep in the extremely comfortable bed, with visions of a fresh start...

    2nd day:
-We were woken up extremely early, due to the fact that we were placed in a room next to a family with 2 kids. The kids used their patio as a playground in the early morning.  -Not happy, but I only had a few hours of sleep, and I'm insanely grouchy
-Room service knocks on our door while they're opening it. I point out the "Do Not Disturb" sign hung on the outside of the door and I try to fall back asleep. A complete lost cause.
-No shampoo, soap or conditioner (The slippery floor starting to make sense).  -My wife calls to have them sent up..... She waited 2 hours and went to get them herself.
-Wearing slippers at all times now to avoid the floor.

    3rd day (Tonight):
-Woken up again by room service opening our door while we're asleep.      -I'm now feeling like a dick because I'm pointing at our "Do Not Disturb" sign to a woman that can't understand a word that I'm saying.  -I'm starting to get pissed....I call the front desk to clarify that their staff has the week off from our room.
-I can't fall back asleep.  -My day is shot.
-The clothing dresser tips over because we apparently can't have clothes in all of the drawers while open and expect it to maintain it's own balance.  -I'm just plain frustrated now.
-After dinner, my wife waits for me outside while I run upstairs to drop off our to-go food and grab some cash. Up to the lower penthouse on the 19th floor and my key doesn't work. Go back downstairs to have a new key made. Since our names were mixed up when we checked in, I now need my wife's ID for a new key. Find my wife, get the key, go back to the room. Key doesn't work........Back downstairs and have 2 more keys made. Go out for a calming dink.
-We have to wait in line to get back into the hotel lobby, since the hotel entrance is the same velvet rope-lined entrance for whomever decides to" club it up" at the W...... -I'm now wanting to switch hotels and knife the douche bags that are too cool to remember where they buried their old Affliction shirts...

All being said, this particular W sucks. Their "Whatever, Whenever" slogan being stuffed down your throat at every turn, falls short. Especially after the stunning cast from the W in New Orleans......It's a nice room if you're used to staying at a Best Western or Holiday Inn. But if you're used to staying in a 4 star or above, I'd recommend a Red Roof Inn over this place......

My girlfriends and I came to play at the W in South beach. It's a great hotel to lounge around in. The rooms are sleekly layered in textured décor. The sheets on the bed is nice and soft touchable to the skin. The bathrooms are huge there was enough space for my girls and I to prim ourselves for the evening. The lobby was decked out in cool art work. The living room bar was a great place to get the cocktails started but it very pricey.

I haven't actually stayed at the hotel yet...I've only partied poolside at the cabanas. This place is stunning! I had such a great time relaxing on the cabana beds with delicious lychee pisco's. The pool view is huge and with the lights that they have it looks breath taking. I can't wait to get back to the W to party some more...and I wouldn't even think twice about renting here for the weekend with some friends to have some fun.

What could I possibly say that is bad about this hotel?  The rooms are gorgeous, the pool is full of beautiful people, there is private access to the beach..... Loved this hotel.  I have platinum status with SPG and this is, by far, the best SPG property I have ever visited.  I was upgraded to a huge suite and they even gave me a couple desserts for free because I was celebrating my birthday!  The rooms are a bit pricey (even if you use Starwood points), but it is worth it if you want to live in luxury for a couple nights.

This was probably one of the best hotel experiences I've had.  We loved it so much, we extended our stay.

    THE HOTEL
The W is brand spankin' new, so everything in the building was clean and sparkly and the staff were all on their best behavior. The air conditioning in the lobby is pretty intense, but if you're coming in from the muggy Miami heat it's actually pretty nice. The design is modern without being cold or harsh, and it makes you feel swank just standing there looking at everything.

    AMENITIES
The fitness center was terrific - free weights, weight machines, elliptical machines and treadmills. They also have yoga mats and exercise balls. Everything is brand new and clean, and it makes you want to work out, even after you've been sweating all day outside. They also have a basketball court and a tennis court outside, but there was no way I was going to run around out there and die of heat stroke. It's probably a nice option for the cooler months.

Unfortunately, the Bliss spa wasn't open yet when we went  - I would have loved to go, but I hear it's not opening until October. But they provide mini Bliss products in your room, and it was really hard not to hijack the housekeeping cart and grab a few dozen more tubes of the lemon and sage body butter.

Take advantage of the W's Acura ride service if you didn't rent a car. We didn't use it until the last day and we were kicking ourselves once we finally took advantage of the service, because we had been walking from the hotel to various places in South Beach and it was effing hot. The hotel has an Acura MDX and driver that will drop you off pretty much anywhere in the South Beach area and, depending on availability, in other parts of Miami. You have to listen to an Acura pitch while you're on your ride, but it was still worth it. The W isn't that far away from most South Beach attractions, but it feels a lot farther away when it's 90 degrees outside and you're from San Francisco, where a hot summer means that you put on a sweater instead of a coat.

The pool is great - it doesn't get any deeper than 5 feet, so don't plan on diving. But the cabana guys will set you up in lounge chairs with plush white towels wrapped around the cushions and rolled under your head as a pillow. The water is the perfect temperature, and the poolside drinks were delish, if a little pricey ($15 per cocktail).

The W also has nice beach access - towels, lounge chairs, umbrellas, drinks - the whole thing. The service was great and the water was warm.

    ROOM
We stayed in a suite on the 16th floor with an amazing view. The rate is normally over $1100 a night, but my husband found a deal through his credit card and we got it for $250 a night. The deal he found also included some free desserts that were brought to our room, and a "free sunscreen application" by the pool, which we both thought was a little weird and didn't take advantage of. But the room was clean, modern and comfortable. Our balcony had lounge chairs and a view of the ocean. The bathroom was beautiful and spotless - marble, glass and chrome, with a power shower (but no tub). Two flat screen TVs, comfy bed, office area and couches. Robe and slippers.  Fridge and microwave.

While this W is gorgeous, it only gets 4 stars, since I like the ft laudy one a bit more. South Beach W is huge and has a great layout. The pool area is beautiful and therapeutic in a sense. The look is more like a mini lake than a pool, combine that with cabanas and a bar and you are in for a good time. If you rent here you don't have to leave. There are a few restaurants, and also a club. The W chain of hotels is on the top of my hotel list...

I stayed here with free Starwood nights just a few weeks after it opened, and absolutely loved it. Beautiful, sexy rooms, a sexy pool, and beautiful people. The drinks were ridiculously expensive (believe I paid $17 for a whiskey diet) but that is South Beach for you. My other qualm would be that they didn't have rooms with 2 beds, so we had four people with 1 bed. But they did have a large L shaped couch so we were able to sleep on that.

The towel guys on the beach were a bit annoying in that you felt like you had to tip them. Oh, and in the middle of our stay they decided to start charging for beach umbrellas. A little declasse - they should have grandfathered us in.

As far as modern hotels go the W South Beach is the best one on Miami Beach.  The architecture is amazing, colors are beautiful, service is top notch, the hotel smells like orchids, and rooms are extremely comfortable.  The beds are lush and extremely comfy.  Each room has a TV for the desk and a TV for the bed.  Somehow using tricky architecture they managed to give EVERY ROOM A VIEW OF THE OCEAN.  The pool is beautiful and the beach is in a quaint spot with not a lot of riff-raff in the area.
The W Hotel takes Whatever, Whenever to heart too.  You need a pen at midnight, they will send it up.  Pack of cigarettes, done.  Shirt pressed, done.  Private chef, done.  Computer fixed, done.  Box shipped, done.  It is this service that makes the W so great.
Two things keep me from giving the W a perfect rating though:  1) The crowd is rough.  While you will meet some nice people the hotel is fill with a lot of rich jerks, ghetto punks, and Euro-trash.  2) Cost.  It feels like breathing in the W costs money.  They stock the fridge and cupboards with munchies that cost a dollar at the local CVS but charge 10 times that amount.  Four drinks at the bar will cost you $80 easy.  And $15 a day for internet?
A great hotel, but with soo many choices on Miami beach, many that are much more cost conscious, I cannot give the W a five star rating.  Consider it a very strong 4+.

Hands down the most beautiful hotel I have ever stayed in.  We stayed here about 3 weeks after opening day, and it was PACKED.  It took me a few tries to even get a reservation here... but when we checked in, they upgraded us to a suite at no charge!

We stayed here for free since I'm a Starwood Member (and used the free weekend nights promo).  If you aren't a SPG member, you should be.

The only down-side for me (and it wasn't that big of a deal), is that the beach is kind of dirty.  My husband and I were taking a dip in the ocean, and I stepped on a BEER BOTTLE.  Good thing it wasn't broken.

I'm sad to be writing this review, it means I just got back from Miami today.
WOW! no kidding. This is the kind of place where you want your summer condo to be. I could have stayed in the hotel most of the time. Weekend girlfriend getaway ( we did sneak some work in with a trade show), we arrived at 6:00 AM. from a red eye, of course to be expected our room wasn't going to be ready, but we were the first on the wait list for check in.
Pitch black still, we went to explore the grounds, pool side was very cool and we found a little lounge water fountain area that we laid around until the restaurant was to open. Only to be attacked by mosquito's. BEWARE! if your one to get bitten by bugs they found me throughout the weekend.
The hotel is considered a Boutique hotel, they want to be more sleek and sophisticated. AND they did not disappoint. We opt for a suite that had 2 bathrooms, a kitchen and a living room. It was a freakin apartment. The view was stunning and the lounge chairs in the afternoon on our balcony was a perfect spot to read or to take a nap.
The service was top notch and I have to say, the criteria of working there must be TAN, MUSCULAR and HOT IN A BLACK SHIRT!!!
The beach is right there and you have lounge chairs that the guys set up for you, you don't have to go back and forth to the hotel if you want drinks or food, they do it for you. Once again, the W hotel did not disappoint and am looking forward to another sizzling weekend!

Uhhhh...this place was out of this world. Went with some wealthy friends who got us a large suite. The suite was amazing!!! It had a living room, dining table, mini kitchen, guest bathroom, master bedroom, and master bathroom.  The master bathroom was HUGE! It was the size of most normal size hotel rooms. There was no door to the bathroom which was a little odd. And the glass to the shower was clear so there was a view to anyone else in the bathroom! They have one of those cool buttons that you can press if you need anything at all. And the BALCONY! Oh man...what a view! It had an amazing view of the ocean, and had some nice lawn chairs to lay out on, and even a shower outside to rinse off. Honestly, one of the top 3 hotels I've ever stayed at.  Now if I had to front the bill, I may feel a little differently, but ignorance is bliss, I loved it!

As always, the W hotels are a really nice place to stay. But maybe I had too high of expectations for this one...because overall, it fell short.

    The good:
    - Private beach area for hotel guests that is literally outside the hotel. You get two complimentary chairs but have to pay extra for umbrellas or extra chairs. The staff out here is great!
    - The check-in staff was really helpful and polite, as expected.

    The just-okay:
    - I have platinum status at SPG so I was surprised that I wasn't upgraded at all! We ended up with a basic room that was nice, but not entirely up to the W standard that I had expected. It was spacious with a balcony...but it mainly overlooked the parking lot. It was loud at night (because of the traffic downstairs...lots of cars honking), and the bathroom wasn't entirely as clean as I would expect from a W.
    - The rest of the staff! The cleaning lady knocked on our door around 9:30am and when we asked if she could come back in maybe 30 minutes, she was downright RUDE. She gave a huge sigh and reluctantly agreed to come back...it's like we were inconveniencing her and her precious time. When we left (probably like 15 minutes later), we asked for some extra towels and she rolled her eyes at us, turned away, and said "Maybe later...I don't have any now". Um, definitely not the kind of service you expect at the W.
    - The concierge staff was also just meh. I went to ask them some questions, and I felt rushed the entire time...like they had more important guests to attend to.

Overall, this place is a nice and comfortable hotel. But based on my experiences at other W hotels, this particular W felt really impersonal and cold. Maybe it was just a particularly busy weekend, but I didn't receive the top-notch service that I expected. And based on the prices at this hotel, you definitely deserve more than what we experienced.

So I went to Miami to celebrate my friend's 30th Birthday, and we decided we'd stay at the W.

The location of the W South Beach is perfect if you're looking to be on the ocean, as well as within walking distance to Lincoln Road where all the action is.

From the moment we pulled up to the hotel, the car door was opened for us and we were greeted by extremely friendly bell hops. Our room had a phenomenal balcony which had breath taking ocean views.

While the bell hop was unloading our bags and showing us around the room, he asked what brought us to Miami. I simply told him we were there to celebrate a friend's 30th Birthday. Shortly after, we left our room and headed to the airport to pick up another friend. By the time we got back to our hotel room their was a bottle of champagne on ice and a note wishing my friend a happy birthday! This was on the house!! How can you go wrong with that?

Also, the Kobe Beef burgers on their room service menu were AMAZING!!! Expensive, but amazing. I think I had 4 over the course of my stay.

The only thing that irked me about the W, was their pool/beach service. They had to seat you, you only received one towel per person, and it just seemed a little too uptight. When I'm on the beach or at the pool I want to sit where I want to sit and not feel like I'm waiting to be seated at a restaurant. Maybe that's just me.

All in all, it was a phenomenal experience and i'd defintely head back to the W South Beach my next trip to Miami.

The W South Beach is, in my opinion, the MOST BEAUTIFUL HOTEL in South Florida hands down. I've been there for drinks on 2 occasions now and have been wowed both times by the decor and the crowd that this place attracts. Yes, the drinks are a tad bit pricey, but it's definitely worth checking out on a special night.
Both the interior and exterior of this hotel are perfectly designed in a very chic, sexy, Miami kind of way. Although I am not a big beach goer, I will definitely be returning for drinks at this exquisite hotel.

W sobe did not disappoint! Room was spacious and ultra posh, 2 tvs! Not to mention an amazing ocean view. I will say that the whole hotel is a bit over priced, but you get what you pay for.

This is a great hotel!  Employees are extremely well trained, not to mention very good looking and their concierge and front desk really go out of their way to make your stay a good one.  The concierge got us reservations at all the hot spots with complimentary limo and they know where to go for clubbing, eating whatever.  The hotel has an awesome pool with great pool service and food.  It's a total scene and great place to enjoy the views....just come down looking good!  We had an insane suite with ocean views.  The decor was out of a "Design Within Reach" catalog...really cool artwork and furniture everywhere.  This was a 5 star experience all the way except for their cleaning service.  It was a little spotty and inconsistent.  Other than that I highly recommend it!!

W South beach is amazing. I was in Miami Beach for a conference....all the conference hotels were sold out and those that weren't were super pricey. So I was beyond thrilled to get my group into this hotel. Everyone in my group 15+ people raved about the rooms. Their standard room is like a suite in most hotels. And 80% of the rooms have a view of the ocean. My co-workers also had a meeting there and the coordination and set-up was a breeze. Nothing but great things to say about the W. My only regret was I didn't stay at the W in NY the following week. Oh one more thing...maybe it is a Miami thing...but everything you order at the W automatically adds a service charge. Doesn't matter to me either way...but it can through someone off if they aren't used to that.

Went last night for drinks and loved the hotel. The style is gorgeous and sleek with attention to detail. The outside pool area and hidden courtyards are very South Beach chic. The drinks at the bar were high 2 fiji waters and 2 glenlivets were $50 including the 18% gratuity, but it's expected in the beach. I peeked into one of the bungalows and thought they were so beautiful with the clean lines of decor.
Tried to see the wall but left when we saw there was a line outside complete with the douchy bouncer who lets in the euro friends and trashy tourists.

can i just copy ana cristina's review? i 100% agree with everything she said!! this is just from visiting one night, i have never stayed there.

yes it beautiful, gorgeous, chic, fabulous, spectacular, and just about any other synonymous adjective you can think of. but......

there is a red velvet rope to get into the lobby and another velvet rope to get into the pool area (which is how you get to the wall)
i mean really w, from what i saw you let everyone right in, so whats the point of the show with the ropes?

the pool area has become a club of its own, plenty of cabanas, lounges, and beautiful people. a dj and all, i guess they have to entertain all the people who cant find or get into the wall.

the wall is hidden off behind a garden trail. once you find it guess what... another velvet rope. lol. so my friends and i were in no mood for a club, we much preferred the pool scene, but wanted to at least see the inside of the infamous wall, and see what all the hype was about. so after a less than 5 minute wait, we didnt get in. the bouncer said it was for table service only or his personal friends. alright asshole. i have zero tolerance for south beach attitude, waiting in lines behind a velvet rope, and bouncers who act cool, when they are really 40 yr old losers.

so w see ya when i see, im in no rush to go back.

I didn't actually stay here I just rushed into the gift shop to pick up a Liquid Metal bracelet.  However, the valet didn't charge me to just leave my ugly minivan (production minivan!) in the front to run in really quickly and the girls in the gift shop totally helped me pick out the right bracelet even though I came in dressed like I was going to the gym and that night there was a Pro Bowl party and all the other women were walking around in mini skirts and stillettos!  Boy did I feel out of place!

Great customer service!  And what I saw of the hotel, it looked amazing!

We checked in for a long weekend before Christmas. The front desk staff were great . We checked into our room and wow , it was very nice. The balcony looks out over the pool and the ocean.
Very sexy sun tanners at the pool, problem is in the winter months it does not get a lot of sun and the sun moves shading some areas fast.
We went to their Wall nightclub on Saturday night, Great time , the doors guys were nice and in we went. House music, very hot crowd.
After the club late that night, we were on our balcony and noticed another couple nude and involved on another balcony, So I guess you could say an adult hotel
The hotel is a little pricey but for SOBE, it was worth it

Stayed at the Oasis Suite for 3 nights and had the worst experience ever!

I could overlook the hall bathroom that smelled like used diaper, the slow sink in the main bathroom, the toiletries that were never replenished, dirty silverware and breadcrumb in my coffee during breakfast, and the blonde representative with an attitude problem at the concierge desk.

What was appalling was the fact that after arranging for a late check out for 12:30pm, my girlfriend and I were interrupted 3 times by 3 different employees within the last 30 minutes while we were in the bedroom. Even with the do-not-disturb sign out, the second employee tried to get into the suite!  I did not understand why they couldn't simply get my check out time from the front desk!

Requested to have the manager looked into the matter when I was checking out but I had not heard back from the hotel at all.  Sent an emailed to GM.WSOBE@whotels.com to the same effect.

The "W" has redeemed itself.  I went to the "W" in DC last summer. Totally terrible, either the girl at the door was hating or they had to different standards.  I was told my one W employee that I could go up to rooftop and then the girl said "No".

I went to the "W" S. Beach for New Year's this year.   I was treated very well.  Received excellent help in the lobby, bar, lounge areas and pool areas.  Everything was open and was admitted into everything with no issue.

The "W" in DC could learn a lot from the one in South Beach on how to treat clients.  I will definitely go back  to have lunch on the deck overlooking the boardwalk and the ocean.

This is the best of the 3 W Hotels that I have stayed at (South Beach, NY, SF).

Our room had an awesome view of the beach and we were high up enough that the music from the pool (which turns into a lounge at night) didn't bother me at night.

The pool is great, I think it's heated just a tad so it's not a complete shock to your system when you get in but it's cool enough to keep you cool on a hot summer day.  You can get these little day bed things and just lounge around and drink all day.

The service is excellent... at no point during my stay did I ever have to look for a waitress, bellboy, etc.  Everyone is extremely helpful.

Drinks are pricey, but there is a reason.  They add a tip to each drink you buy, so the price is with the tip already included. (For example a Kettel One martini was about $25).  This was odd to me but I guess the wannabe ballers in South Beach were stiffing the staff so much that they had to implement this policy (unfortunately).  But, if you can afford a $600 room you shouldn't be complaining about drink prices.

Also the food at Mr. Chows is super good.  I have no idea what I was eating but it was the best of whatever it was.

If you make nice with the concierge dude/dudette, they can get you into whatever bar/club/restaurant you want to go to.  No waiting in line.

I want to move in. Oh, do I love Miami.

Big gorgeous lobby, gardens and common areas, big rooms, big views, big soft bed, big luxe bath, big sunny terrace, big boozy mini bar, 2 big screen TVs, big quiet beach, big sceney pool, big posh gym, big yummy olives at the bar and verrrrrry big staff to guest ratio. Also a big bar scene, duh. I don't always like BIG, but boy does it work here.

My one complaint - there are NO non-suite/ regular rooms with double beds. Most are suites with king beds, making it very difficult to share a room with a friend and really taking a chunk of your Starwood points.

    Would i stay again? ABSOLUTELY.

The property was chic, the rooms were large and swanky, but the service was a buzz-kill. The staff was unfriendly and looked annoyed if they had to do their job (even checking people in at the front desk. Seriously!). There was quite a bit of security everywhere to make sure only hotel guests were inside, giving the W an exclusive feel. However, if they are going to put so much energy into keeping people out, they should put just as much energy (if not more) into taking care their guests (you know, the people paying on the inside)!

It was also a pain to get chairs by the pool. You have to get there early, and people save multiple chairs for hours (even though no one is using them) because chairs are such scarce commodities. And because the area by the pool is so tight, the chairs are literally touching each other...it's like laying in a really wide bed next to a bunch of strangers. I'm frustrated by beach resorts that have such poor chair-to-guest ratios - laying out is a key reason why people are there!

Their bar, The Living Room, was pretty cool though. Their cocktails were fabulous - unique and sophisticated flavors. Probably the only redeeming factor about the hotel, aside from the rooms.

I really liked the rooms at the W South Beach, but I doubt I will stay here again. For what they charge (twice as much as the average W Hotel), it's not worth it for horrible service and to have to fight for a chair by the pool.

I'd have to say this is one of the filthiest and most unclean hotels I've ever stayed at in my life. The rooms. The common space. Just gross. I needed to lysol wipe everything and it seemed the room was not properly cleaned in months including the bed headboard and all surface areas. The service also was poor with attitude. I'd never return and would warn anyone I knew to stay at the Ritz Carlton or elsewhere.

9/8 - 9/13  Suite rm 631# gorgeous straight ahead ocean view, corner suite with huge balcony, pretty nice as the W goes, but missing alot of little things, missing remote, only 1 cordless phone that didnt hold a charge, outside shower broken, no ice bucket, no glasses, or silverware it basically was a nice 1br apt

its called "Fabulous Studio" rack rate on door was $1999
Non-smoking, Ocean View With Balcony, 800sf Studio And 240sf Balcony, Additional Outdoor Rain Shower, Stove, Microwave, Fridge, Sink

    Pros:
    Great location on Collins
easy access to beach and ocean.
great wait staff at bars, Mr Chows. and pool area.

    Cons:
had to beg twice for 2pm checkout (best they could do fro a Platinum).
$40 per day valet (no self park options)
    horrible "whenever/wherever" staff.

We complained 3 nights in a row about neighbors coming home from partying at 4-6am and continuing their partying in their suite and on their balcony (next to our bedroom) woke us up 3 nites in a row and security came each night, the 2nd & 3rd nites they came twice.

Saturday morning 3:50am woken up , so I called Front Desk and complained about loud group 6-8 folks screaming on balcony, fighting, swearing. 4:30am it stopped.

Sunday morning 5:10am woken up , so I called FD and complained about loud group 6-8 folks screaming on balcony, fighting, swearing. 5:30am I called a 2nd time it stopped 5:45am

Sunday afternoon I went and spoke with the Whenever/Wherever staff about the problem, he said those unruly folks where thrown out. Ok, so this sounds good.

Monday morning 4:30am woken up , so I called FD and complained about loud group 6-8 folks screaming on balcony, fighting, swearing. it stopped at 4:45am , so woken up again at 5:45am so I called FD AGAIN and complained about loud group 6-8 folks screaming on balcony, fighting, swearing it stopped 6am

Monday afternoon I stopped to speak with "Whenever/Wherever" and asked for mgr, she told he was busy what can i do, I told them went thru this 3 nites in a row. This woman was atleast honest, she said they had NOT been thrown out ,but maybe the people making the noise were asked to leave, but the same occupants still have the room. I said what are the chances I have 4 BAD nites in a row, she said honestly she wasn't sure.

Later before dinner I left pool to change and it was 5pm and the unruly group where partying loud having a good time on their balcony and i triuly didint care because it was 5pm and i was leaving for the Patriots game anyways, while leaving my room I was pleasantly surprised watching security and mgmt throw the occupants out right then and there, the occupants were complaining about where they were gonna stay?, they cant do this, etc etc, and the last thing I heard was, "The next thing we do is call Miami Dade police. so that ended the argument" and no surprise we slept well the final night.

How does the W SOBE  mgmt allow this to happen 3 nites in a row when other customers are complaining and security is sent up there a half dozen times? We had 3 HORRIBLE nites of sleeping.

it was a TERRIBLE stay and i would have to think that W Sobe mgmt dropped the ball and didnt handle this correctly.

Amazing service! We checked in on a girls' weekend, and the front desk manager not only upgraded us to a huge 2 bedroom suite, but sent up a bottle of champagne. So thoughtful, we felt like rock stars. Someone was always there to help us, service was top-notch. The beach is gorgeous, and the pool has a great vibe. The food at the Living Room leaves a bit to be desired, but we had a great night out at Wall. Would definitely recommend to people looking for a fun stay with great service.

The biggest downfalls with this W were problems with the room itself. We got a standard room with an upgrade, which consists of a king bed, sitting area, and balcony with a partial ocean-view.

For super trendy rooms, the place was not that clean. Without the rooms being spic and span, the "trendy" look wasn't really pulled off. The housekeeping also wasn't very good. For a six star hotel, I would expect that our beds are made, rooms tidied, and toiletries replenished. However, each morning and at turn down service, our room was still left a mess; the only difference was that the bed was made. We also never had one of each toiletry- always missing a soap or conditioner.

Our room was also missing the Bose speaker system that was set up in our friends' "identical" room, so we could never turn on music. The clock in the room also had the wrong time and could not be changed.

The beach and pool were nice. However, the beach was technically a public beach, so it was not private or serene as I expected it to be. There were still a lot of random people who set camp in front of the hotel's cabanas and effectively eliminating our direct view of the ocean.

Definitely not the best hotel we've been to and probably will not come back here.

The line, "whatever, whenever", should be changed to "whatever...never".

One night after check in, my friend's credit card was frozen because the W double charged for the entire stay.  What should have been $9000 was then charged as $18,000.  Since it is a debit  card, the amount was not going to be released until well past our stay so that put a huge damper on the vacation.

Then, anytime we used the "whatever, whenever" service, we basically waited longer than it would have taken for us to run the errand ourselves.  We asked for extra keys to be run up and the keys never showed.  Then we asked for some stuff from the CVS across the street, and that only took about two to three hours.  I'm not one to snap my fingers and expect rainbows...but don't advertise the service if it can't actually deliver.

The Wall, the onsite club, was also pretty sad.  It was all table service, but with 30 tables or so, it ended up just being four walls with 30 tables and no room to dance.  It was sad to see girls roaming around, waiting to see which large, wallet-endowed man was going to invite them to sit at their table.  Perhaps that's how things generally roll in Miami.

The poolside service was pretty awesome, and there was delicious food both in the restaurant and in the bar.  However, by our last day, the hotel basically "whatever-ed" us and gave us a hard time about poolside chairs, then gave them away within an hour of leaving them empty (which on previous days had been fine).

I can't say that I was too sad to leave.  The rooms were beautiful and the pool and beach were awesome, but the service was lack-luster and awfully pretentious to the people renting ridiculously priced rooms.

I loved staying here. I used to visit Miami Beach often, and I have stayed in a few other hotels. This trip was our first vacation as a couple and we spent an amazing long weekend at the W South Beach. We arrived very early in the day so we had to wait for a long time to check in, but like I said, we did arrive very early. Once we were let into our room, it was so beautiful. We didn't even want to leave the room. We stayed in either a wonderful or spectacular studio (can't remember exactly because they seemed the same in the description when we booked.) If we came back, we would want to try one of their suites. The noise level was fine, and we didn't hear a peep from anyone staying around us. (Shore Club on the other hand was VERY loud when we stayed there, and you could hear every step on the tile/marble in the hallways.) We played music pretty loudly in our room with no complaints every night before we went out. The outdoor bar near the pool was great to relax and have a few drinks before going out at night. The bartenders are very friendly and informative, maybe more so than the concierge (sorry! :P). And the drinks they made were amazing! I can't remember what it's called, but there's a drink made with papaya and something spicy, and it's so delicious, I would have one right now! Staying in the hotel makes it easy to go to Wall, the club located inside. It's pretty neat. Low-key and worth getting a table at (as there isn't really anything else to do there if you don't) and also the decor and lights are worth seeing. The pool area gets exciting at night, and the crowd was pretty mixed (age-wise) but all classy and friendly people. In the morning, we went down to reserve chairs super early in the morning, which you MUST do if you want to lay out at all, but once you do, it's yours as long as you stay at the pool. Or you can buy a daybed, and as I remember the rates were pretty reasonable (but you'd have to call and check for yourself.) The Setai is right across the way, which is also a great hotel to check out for drinks , and is easily within walking distance. The shopping and dining on Lincoln is also walking-distance away, about 5 blocks. But we are big on walking, so if you're not, you can just hail a cab. On the other side is the Gansevoort, with Louis Bar inside (Opium group) also worth checking out! I was sad when it was time to check out and I can't wait to go back.
Oh I almost forgot, there is the cutest little store inside that sells plenty of cover-ups, suits, heels, jewelry, and lots of other random stuff that you will want to pick up while you're there :) at least I did!

It's not the Delano but it is a W! And with that always comes great lounges. This review is actually not for the hotel but for the hang out areas, specifically The Living Room Lounge. My friend and I were invited to a party there so arriving a little later than expected (1a), the crowd apparently started to thin out. There are so many different sections it can feel like a maze. The bar was jumping, the music was strange and our drinks were mediocre. I kept it simple with a Riesling but my friend, who ordered a Caiphrina, said it tasted more like a Mojito.  For $16, it should have tasted like an amazing Caiphrina.

Great for people watching, we finally made it to one of the comfy couches and soon found out why couples were posted on them as though home. They were truly some of the softest couches and pillows my behind and back have ever sat on and leaned against. Had we been there sooner, maybe the feeling would have been different.

Very nice hotel overall  - would give 3.5 stars - new and nice, but not a 5 star hotel.  Called from airport to see if room was available for check-in so that we could dine instead of going to the hotel directly in case it wasn't ready - but they will not tell you if its available by phone.  I was looking forward to playing tennis but the tennis and basketball courts were receiving maintenance.  It would have been nice if they would have told us that ahead of our stay - we did receive an e-mail regarding there policies in advance.  We were told at check in it might be ready the next day but in fact it was closed all week.  One night the pool and outdoor lounge were closed for a private event  - would have been nice to know that as well ahead of time.

The maid service was so-so - the window seals were very very dusty, we had to call for towels and wash clothes that were taken but not replaced one day, the coffee was replaced one day out of five.  This was a condo with full kitchen with tons of alcohol for fee in the frig but the only glasses in the place were the two small glasses in the bathroom.  They might sell more beverages if they actually put glassware in the rooms.  No plates, bowls, etc. , but there were utensils, cookware, and a blender - strange.  Drinks are very expensive and small.

The internet was come and go - was transferred to tech support each time and I later saw that each time I was charged for the phone call as well as taxed for it.  The charges for the call were later dropped when I raised the issue.  Things like that truly make one feel "nickled-and-dimed".  If you face the ocean expect NO cell phone connection - you WILL be out of touch (which may be a good thing actually).  The hotel is 0.8 miles north of Ocean Drive so its not exactly in the middle of things - expect some walking.  Parking is difficult everywhere we went in SoBe, valet at the W is about $37 a day not including tips.  I was definitely not a fan  of the perfume smell in the lobby - some kind of lemon sage, a little on the putrid side - more of a negative than a positive - needs to be reworked - may want to consult with Steve Wynn on that one.  We did not have a scale in the room as it was supposed to have.

The pluses are floor to ceiling glass with great ocean views, nice garden in the back and pool area; however, the cabanas do not offer full privacy and there was no adult pool for European bathing.  We had breakfast by the pool and the food was fantastic!  Lastly, the Staff we encountered were all exceptional  - they were friendly and a simple phone call usually took care of the problem.   We had a food & bev credit with our reservation and called to see where we were on that.  The computer was down and they were going to call us back but did never did.   With that said, ideally there would be no need for phone calls.

    1. House keeping did a great job cleaning up our mess after going hard in the paint at the room each morning haha.
    2. Towels were plentiful and the room was restocked with toiletries and new sheets.
    3. Got locked out of the room and a really nice Spanish lady looked at me and said I looked trustworthy so she got her master key and let me in :-) Thank you!! it was cold out there in the hall!! haha

    Amenities:
    1. First thing is first...the BOSE sound system was bangin' the beats all weekend...great clarity and hard on the thumps.  Don't know how we didn't receive any complaints all throughout the night and morning, but good for us! ha!

    2. Looks very high class, modern style with some crazy looking lamps and decorations in excess (could've had more room to party but these floor to wall lamps were in the way).

    3. Shower was siccckk...three way with the handle also...gets you up top, middle, and down low low low! Felt great after a the long nights and feelin' like c*ap in the mornings.

    4. Mini-fridge area...perfect to stock up the sodas, alky, sandwiches from La Sandwicherie, and some White Castle! There's also a microwave btw...oh yea....the simple things in life!

    5. Gym: FULLY stocked and very well equipped.  Includes squat bench, flat bench, standalone benches, dumbbells up to 50lbs., Eliptical & treadmills with full huge LCD screens on each machine with ipod docks!, full stocked fridge with cold waters, towels, headphones, bathroom, and a tv to get your G on while watchin' Jersey Shore

    6. You can put in a time to get the Acura service reserved for you.  Free service to take you anywhere within 10 miles! How great is that?!

    Cleanliness:
    1. Cleaned up each morning very nicely with floors wiped also (don't ask why that needed to be).
    2. New sheets supplied and the maid even made the sofa with sheets and pillows also.
    3. Gym was very clean and well maintained.

    Convenience:
    1.   A short distance to Lincoln Rd. for the Halloween madness.
    2. Right across the street from a Rite Aid to pick up to-go cups and water.
    3. A few blocks away from a full stocked Liquor store to get your pre-dranky drank on.
    4. Close enough to get Delivery from La Sandwicherie (best sandwiches in MIAMI IMO...prosciutto and mozzarella! Thanks Ashley!)
    5. Pool is way chill...and if it's packed then you can just walk 1 minute to the sandy beach and grab a couple chairs and towels there!

    Nightlife:
    1. There's Wall at the W which is more of a lounge than a club.  Didn't check that out, was too busy elsewhere but I heard it is nice.  There's also a bar off the lobby.

I would definitely consider staying here again, but next time I want to definitely give other Hotels a shot...maybe Gansevoort? Fontainebleu? Delano? :-)

Wow! This hotel really is first class. EVERY room has an incredible ocean view.

I have high expectations for W hotels and this one does not disappoint. The rooms are very spacious, comfortable beds and sitting areas.

If the humidity doesn't scare you off, you can dine outside on the patio amongst the palm trees and luxuries pool. If you prefer the ocean, the W stocks their section with comfy lounge chairs and umbrellas.

    You won't regret staying here!

It KILLS ME to only give this place two starts. Frankly I just spent a few minutes waffling between 2 and 3. It kills me because this place is stunning. The decor is superb. Every room has an ocean view (some have even more interesting views, which I will get to in a minute). The front desk, doormen and concierge staff are A+ and the location can't be beat. They have a great courtesy suite where you can get changed in private if you have time to kill between checkout and the airport and want to chill at the pool or whatever. The shower is made for dirty vacation sex.

    However.

Things went bad, quickly. A friend of mine found a used condom on the shelf over his bed. I came back from dinner and discovered that my hairbrush, which was clean before I left, was mysteriously full of coarse, black, curly hair. I have straight, smooth chestnut hair. The only person in my room besides myself all week, let alone during that 5-hour span, was housekeeping to do turndown service. PS - My Clarisonic went missing from the bathroom, too.

Normally I wouldn't have anyone come in the room period, but I had no privacy sign for the door and none ever showed up despite my request. Turndown is almost mandatory regardless, because the blinds on the window require both an engineering degree and the patience of a saint to operate. If you don't close them because you don't have 20 minutes to spend twirling a rod in endless circles, you risk becoming part of the Miami Beach peep show. One night, while sitting on my beautiful balcony listening to the ocean waves, I saw a topless girl ironing in her room. Directly below her was a couple going at it on their balcony (missionary position, totally boring). One of the private cabanas was being renovated and some sort of saw was being used until after midnight.

My final complaint: I ordered a drink on the beach - a simple Grey Goose & tonic - and was charged $18!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11eleven
Are you kidding me right now? I expect to pay a premium at high-end places but that is absolutely mind-boggling. The f-ing Oak Bar at the Plaza in New York doesn't even charge that much. Plus, the waiter didn't bring me the correct bill at first and seemed put out when I asked for the right one because, as he said, "The price is the same."

But it's sooooooooo pretty : (  This hotel is like a guy you only keep around because he's super hot, then you kick yourself when he uses your hairbrush and steals your Clarisonic.

most good looking W i've been with serious art in lobby - Hirst, Warhol, Basquiat et al. very cool designed poolside and lounges too. but the scene feels a bit highfalutin, the bar sketchy with single booby blondes and aging arab-euro lotharios.

Absolute luxury... the one vacation spot I was sad to leave.  We were the very first occupants of the Oasis Suite, and we squeezed every bit of pleasure out of this property - wasn't difficult - it oozed, out facilitated by the freshly trained staff chomping at the bit to finally entertain some guests.
The suite was simply elegant with white hide carpets, full kitchen, three flat screens, two balconies, and a washer/dryer.  The zero edge pool and colorfully upholstered "beds" were gorgeous.  Tony made them up with towels just perfectly - he and the cocktail girls in their cute beach cover outfits were so down to earth and friendly (we discussed S. Beach's rep for rudeness).  If only I were a lush so I could order more drinks from them!  Oh, you don't have to - they supply a jar of fruit infused ice water by the beach gate.  The guys down there are pros at lounge chairs, towels, and umbrellas too.
Free wi-fi is available in the "Living Room" furnished with cool chairs and art books.  The concierge provided us with a basketball and some tennis balls for the 7th floor courts -  exhaust fans up there make it irritatingly loud, and we ended up looking like we'd sat in a sauna rather than lazily rallying a bit.
There were a few kinks to be worked out like no coffee packets which they remedied by sending complimentary room service with a charming coffee set that they forgot to pick up - I restrained myself from stealing the cutting-edge china.  We did receive a pretty purple bag that made a convenient beach tote.
It's a little further from the Lincoln Road Mall and other shopping/entertainment streets - take the paved beach path for a more pleasant walk.
Wow, now I'm depressed that I may never have a reason to go to South Beach again...

I think my review is pretty closed to Stephanie I's... Overall OK, but not stellar.  Yes, the pool and beach were great, the lobby was fantastic, and the views were pretty awesome.

I was less than impressed with the food, however, and the drinks were fundamentally overpriced.  And as a platinum guest I was expecting some sort of upgrade, not their "no promises" attitude.  The staff was also very much "get the hell out" on check-out day; it was like pulling teeth to secure a noon check out time, despite having guaranteed 4:00 check out.

Worth a visit?  If you're in SoBe it's the place to be.  Worth the price?  Not at all.

The W South Beach encompasses all things Miami including the chic and stunning decor, the beaches and the price. I stayed here for a bachelorette party with three other girls and we had an absolute blast!

I caught a flight out after I finished my last final at school and didn't arrive at the hotel until almost 3 a.m. The reservation was not in my name and my friends were already sleeping in the room. When I checked in, I simply gave my name along with the name on reservation and the concierge started to call the room. I immediately told her I didn't want her call and wake everyone. I called my friends' phone from my cell and after she spoke with her, I was given a room key. While I appreciate her being courteous, I was surprised at how easy it was to obtain a key given how many high-profile celebrities stay there. Who knows who was really on the other end of my phone? The next day at the beach, my friends and I even ran into a paparazzi who had snagged a picture of Russell Brand.

The beachfront is gorgeous. Cushioned lounge chairs and umbrellas are available to guests, for a fee of course. There is also a menu serving snacks that sounded pretty tasty. We ordered a couple of items but they were never brought to us. After waiting for literally two hours and not getting so much as an apology, we cancelled our order and asked a different server for drinks. While not upset, it's not the kind of service I expected. They had no problem charging us the full $60 for 3 small mojitos we ordered.

The lobby of the hotel smells heavenly of gardenias. So heavenly that my friends and I asked where we could purchase the scent, only to find out that its a coveted W signature. The overall atmosphere is relaxing until things heat up in the evening. We went and explored outside of the hotel at night, but by the time we left the bar looked pretty packed.

The rooms are as beautiful as the lobby and conveniently stocked with and array of overpriced snacks and bar beverages. I fell in love with the ultra comfortable bed. Other perks in the room are the large open shower with three different massaging spouts, bliss spa toiletries and ocean view.

The small complaints I have about the service weren't enough to make me take away the fifth star, rather it was the price. I knew to my wallet would be hurting, but even for South Beach I considered it pricey. Be prepared to shell out a nice chunk of change for any and all services offered.

I didn't stay here, but I hung out here at night during Art Basel.  It was hopping and the lobby was beautiful.  Mr. Chow was having a huge bash, so things became a little cramped when the overflow flooded the lobby bar (Living Room).  I found out the next day the party at Mr. Chow was hosted by Diddy (he's an art fan and bought a neon sign earlier in the day for $70K). Too bad I wasn't on the list.

Spacious rooms. Our room had a spacious terrace facing the ocean with gorgeous unobstructed views. The hotel is located right on the beach with convenient access and service on the beach.

Beach staff are very friendly and helpful.

Pool area is nice with ample chairs.  The only challenge with laying out at the pool area is that you can really shift the chairs with the sun.  The chairs are so tightly packed in that you can't really move them around.

Hotel is located about 6 blocks from Lincoln Rd. It's best to walk on the boardwalk behind the hotel versus taking hectic and crowded Collins Ave. It's just a much more relaxing walk on the boardwalk.

    Complaints:
    1. Umbrellas on the beach cost an additional $16 per day. I think this is outrageous since the hotel already charges a resort fee. The umbrella should be a part of the resort fee, don't you think?!

    2.  Doormen are typically grumpy and act like it's a real chore for them to open the door for you as you enter or exit the hotel. However we did encounter some really nice ones :)

    3. On club nights, they rope off the entrance to the hotel and treat you like an outsider. Of course they have to let you in since you are a guest of the hotel.

    4.  Room cleaning was far from what I expect from the W.  When we arrived, we fund an Oreo cookie crumb on the floor next to our bed.  One day, we left our room at 10 AM and returned at 4 PM and the room was still not serviced.  There was even a day where the cleaning staff took the only trash can we had in the room.  Bizarre!

Very hip, trendy, seductive vibe and I love it.  The staff is so accomodating and have reached out to me several days prior to my arrival for my special requestes, assistance  in making dinner reservations, spa etc.  Upon my arrival, all my expectations were met, down to the amounts off pillows on my bed!! I've been to many W Hotel locations and so far this one is my favorite.  Beautiful artwork throughout, gorgeous lounges indoor as well as outdoors.  Modern pool and nice beach.  Beautiful suites with fantastic views.  The Bliss Spa is simply divine.  The people here are just gorgeous!!

While I did not stay at the W, as a SoBe resident I feel compelled to write a review about the bar scene. Went there for "Wet Thursdays" recently with an out of town friend. The interior design of course is awesome. The inside bar scene was kinda dead so we went to the outside pool bar.

Even though they weren't busy I had to ask the bar back for a drink menu after they pretty much ignored us for a minute. Drink selection was disappointing, they had all but 5 well drinks to chose from. Don't order the iced tea and gin cocktail, it tastes like tap water. We ended up with a $39 bill for 2 small drinks- they add 20% gratuity automatically for the 30 seconds it takes them to make the drink and pour it into a plastic cup. They also don't call it gratuity, it says "svc charge" or something so it's easy to miss.

Around 12:00 PM the night owls start rolling in. The crowd is definitely much classier than other places even though I have the sneaking suspicion that many of the stiletto and short-short mini skirt clad chicas are well under age. How is this possible on a school night?

We walked over to Wall, the night club, as I had RSVPd. When we saw the under age crowd and heard the music from outside, we decided to pass. The music pretty much sucked compared to the outside DJ. I must really be getting old!

Overall a cool place to hang out but sub par service and overpriced.

I do admit w/ the other reviews that being SPG Plat, the front desk attitude is slightly stuck up and annoying when it comes to room upgrades.

This is also the first hotel where you had to wait for your room when you checked in at like 2PM (since checkin at 4PM) and mandated a 11AM checkout.  I asked for 11:30AM check out and they wouldn't give it to me.  I've honestly never been at a hotel where they've been this strict about the checkin and checkout times.  The checkin thing is extremely annoying when you've just gotten off a redeye flight, and don't have your room ready.  I don't think they were even sold out.

    Hence not 5 stars.

    The rooms:
There are no bad rooms at this hotel.  All the rooms are slanted towards the ocean view, although the best rooms are the few that are located directly facing the ocean.  One thing that I love about this hotel is the fact that all rooms (even the studios) have a small kitchenette area with at least a microwave, toaster and a pretty good sized fridge.  The cupboards and drawers also have plates, bowls and silverware.  This is hugely convenient for like breakfast.  The suites also have in addition to, a stove (2 burners or full depending on room)!

Suites are configured like a one bedroom apartment with a bedroom door for privacy, although the bathroom is only accessible via the bedroom.

Tip about the blinds: there are 2 "folds" in the blind crank.  Fold it once, and turn to adjust the angle of the blinds.  Fold it twice (in opposite direction) into a hand crank shape, and start cranking the thing (like you would with a car jack to jack up your car) to lift up or close the blinds.  It wasn't immediately obvious when I first saw this :)

    The club:
Drinks are expensive, a double goose tonic cost me $37 at the living room, that's pretty pricey, even for a double. I don't remember the W in Hollywood even cost that much, or maybe they do.

Can't remember the name of the club attached to the hotel but I guess I'll write a separate review for that.

I just back from my stay at the W in South Beach...and I already miss this place. My overall experience was fantastic. As you enter the lobby looks very chic and modern...everything is designed to perfection. As we entered our room...I almost started jumping with joy. The décor was fantastic...and the view was just what we wanted, overlooking the ocean.
The service is unbelievably great...quick set up of the chairs and towels by the beach and the pool. Don't forget to try their cocktails by the infinity pool.
We ran out of some toiletries and within 5 minutes they came and delivered us a bag full of toiletries...not that we needed so many...wouldn't mind saving few to take back home...it's their bliss collection.
Don't miss to check out their club- Wall, great music!!!
This is what I call a W(onderful) experience. Will definitely go back again.

I'm going against the 5-star grain here...

The W Hotel is gorgeous.  It really, really is.  The outdoor area with cabanas is posh and beautiful, and the inside is majestic (high ceilings, granite/marble everywhere, fancy fountains and clear glass walls dividing the men's/women's restrooms).  I cannot take away from any of this.

But since it just opened, EVERYONE is there.  Such a see-and-be-seen crowd, it reminds me a little too much of an episode of The Hills or Gossip Girl.  I had a great time when I went, but I prefer more laid back spots where there isn't a line around the block just to go have an overpriced drink and say you've been there.

If I ever stay there as a hotel guest I'm sure my review will deserve an update, but for now it's just OK.

Why 4 out of 5 stars?

    Service: +1 star
    Rooms: +1 star
    View: +1 star
    Features: +1 star
    Location: no star

Would I stay there again when I next visit Miami Beach? Enthusiastically, yes!

I'm a SPG Platinum member, but this doesn't mean much at a hotel like the W South Beach. Still, I was able to get a nice room on a top floor with a view (all rooms at the hotel have a view of the ocean). While the room is small, measuring 570 sq ft + 100 sq ft balcony, they've done a GREAT job with the layout. It feels much more spacious than it actually is. Miami Beach is a party city, but the room has a pure, peaceful feel that is great for relaxation and recovery.

Most of the staff is very friendly. Some are a bit reserved, but none were even close to rude. Service on the beach was great. It's a reasonable price to get a cabana, though a bit pricey for food and drinks.

We were unable to get into Wall Lounge, but understandably so: a popular DJ was performing, and only people with table reservations could get access. Even groups of only girls had trouble getting in: the very attractive girls were allowed in (solid 9s out of 10), but the average girls that would normally be allowed in (6-7 out of 10) were not.

My only complaint about this hotel is the location. It's a bit north of the "real South Beach" - shopping and dining. Still, it's the nicest looking hotel in the area.

Some suggestions: Skip Mr. Chow if you want to go there for food. Instead, admire the luxury cars sitting outside. If you're driving, there's a public parking lot just in front of the hotel. For 24 hours of parking, it comes to about the same price as valet, but you get access to your car much more quickly, and save a couple bucks on tips.

Almost tempted never to leave the ground.  Between the room, the balcony, the downstairs bar and the pool, we found it hard to leave.

They take very good care of their guests here and let you get away with just about anything, so enjoy.

(they make some delicious cocktails off menu downstairs so let them get creative)

This hotel really went above and beyond. Yes the hotel is chic and modern but there are so many trendy hotels. What really made this hotel different from the rest was their customer service. They really cater to you. The concierge service "whatever whenever" is pretty self-explanatory. They will literally do anything for you at any time. I rate this hotel a solid 5/5 based on my experiences.

Experience #1- My friend misplaced her camera. She did not even know her camera was missing. However, she got a phone call saying that her camera was found. How did they do this? NO IDEA! She did not report her camera missing. She did not leave a contact number. How did they even know which hotel room we were staying in when the room is under my other friend's name? It shows that they really do pay attention to every guest.

Experience #2- They are FAST! When you call for something, they deliver it to you room in just minutes. Normally, I feel like I have to wait forever before receiving my requests. I call for towels and they delivered them to my room in 5-10 minutes! In addition, they would hand me a bag of additional toiletries such as shampoo, lotion, etc. They were very considerate.

Experience #3- When we went out for lunch, the hotel provided us free transportation! It was amazing! They had a car ready for us to take us anywhere close to the hotel. The best part, it's free for all hotel guests. This is unheard of! I've been to many topnotch hotels and this was definite my first. I've had hotels drive us around but never was the transportation free.

Experience #4- I "misplaced" my purse. Now this was a big deal for me. I was out for lunch at the Standard Hotel and realized my purse was missing. They surprisingly found that too. They assured me they would do whatever to find the purse. They even said they could check the surveillance cameras to see where the purse was. Or if someone took it, they would know who took it. In just minutes, they found it and held it for me. When I returned, I didn't even have to go to the concierge or front desk to retrieve my purse. Someone personally handed it to me right when I walked through the doors.

Experience #5- On my last day in Miami, my friends and I went to lunch at Zuma. We were running late so we called and asked if our suitcases could be delivered to the Epic hotel. While we were lunching, our suitcases were delivered to us! All 7 pieces and all we had to pay for was the price of the taxi fare. Amazing!

I really think their service was superior. They literally will try to fulfill every guest's needs. I wonder what their most extreme request was. I highly recommend this hotel and I will definitely be back.

Staying here gave me a strange right to scoff at all those buff d-bags w/ aviators cruisin' the streets with their maseratis, lambos, and loud-ass mustangs.

This hotel is top notch and damn expensive, but so worth the stay.
    *3rd Floor Suite
     - king size bed
     - huge bathroom w/ tub & accessible shower, which leaks water EVERYWHERE
     - comfortable sectional sofa
     - huge balcony w/ lounge chairs + outdoor shower
     - microwave, stove, oven, utensils, plates, coffee maker, everything!

    * 18th Floor "Studio"
     - TWO plasma TVs for surround sound football!!!
     - bose iPOd dock w/ awesome speakers
     - small balcony w/ 2 lounge chairs - amazing view of the beach
     - utensils, plates, coffee maker, scale
     - bathroom with separate toilet, and a see-through frosted-glass shower. for sexy getaway couples only ;)

Outdoor pools are both amazing. Beach is footsteps away. Concierge is friendly (and mostly HOT!!!). Green apples and fruit water are free-flowing.

Love the Bliss spa products as well. Body Butter is my best friend.

My only complaint: their beach/poolside mojitos are WEAK...and for $90/pitcher, yuo're better off bringing roadies.

I stayed here for a week with 2 friends in a "Bungalow" room and we had an AMAZING time.

The bungalow was huge, furnished nicely, beds were comfortable, and we loved having our own plunge pool.

All of the staff that we encountered were super friendly and warm, they were also pretty good looking.

I spent most of my time on the beach, which is full service. Yes the drinks were $16 a pop for a plastic cup, but they were delicious. I cannot recall the name of my favorite drink, but it had some jalapenos in it and packed a nice kick. I was pretty embarrassed that I would drink a pitcher of it to myself, but it was just that good.

Bliss Spa gets booked up quick, so make sure to book your reservations in advance.

My only complaint was that the room service was lacking majorly. The food was not that great, and they would not come to take the cart back after you called them. It took 3 calls one time to finally have someone take it from the room. However, SOBE has tons of good restaurants and there is no need to be ordering room service.

Overall I really liked this hotel, and I am trying to get my family to buy one of the residences in the hotel!

Been to the W South Beach the last three years. And thanks to my SPG Platinum status I've used free nights instead of paying $600+ a night. But it's tough to beat the W versus other hotels in the area that are much older.

    Pros:
Great location- walking distance to lincoln road
Swanky- when sitting down in the lobby you swear you stumbled into a modeling convention
Views- All the rooms have balconies and the ones facing the water have amazing views
Food- Mr Chow is fantastic, the waiters are borderline used car salesman but the food is first rate
Transportation- Acura Experience takes you free one way up to 6 miles as many times as you want. Beats the hell out of a beat up Miami Cabbie smelling like arroz con pollo

    Cons:
Pricey- Wouldn't pay regular rate and would only go there on free nights or SPG points
Bitchy- Front desk people/conceirge are very stingy with early/late checkouts & room upgrades. Because this is a SPG resort property a lot of the things as a Platinum member that you expect don't happen. There is a certain snooty nature to a lot of the staff, I lived in Miami so I get it but tone it down a tad.

Overall a fantastic hotel oozing sobe swank and it's pricey/bitchy nature is par for the course when going to a place that caters to the jet set crowd.

Ok...first off i've stayed at W hotels many times....and for the most part I love them.......the last time i was in Miami i stayed at the Gansevoort which is now called Perry's.  As always i typically fly in on a red eye from the west coast....and i'm accommodated with a room even earlier.  This particular time was Labor Day weekend!  I arrive at the hotel at 730am......on Sat 1st.......their are like 4 dudes out front drunk...yelling....laughing and carrying on like idiots.....the door men are laughing with them and no one even offers to take my bags...in fact they don't even open the door.......can you say GHETTO.....i swear it was just embarrassing to walk in to this hotel....especially when i heard so many great things about the place.

Next the front desk girl tells me that my room won't be ready until 4pm....but i'm beat and need a place to stay now.........she offered me some community room to shower and relax but tells me its a shared space.....this was strange.....then i think she is giving us a private place and she is asking me if there is anything i want to remove from my suit case to take to this shared place.....i'm like what is she talking about.....NO I DON"T WANT TO UNPACK IN THE LOBBY....and walk about around like a vagrant.  So all she has available right then was the worst room in the hotel on the lowest floor just above the front canopy.  She says look if you take this room....i'll switch you to floor 4 or 10 by 4pm.......but this is not what i booked.....i was told high floor.....over 15th minimum when i booked.   plus i was getting a suite not just a room......but then she says ok....if you stay in this room tonight.....i'll put you guaranteed 19th floor tomorrow....i blocked it off for you and we will call you tomorrow to make the switch.  So i'm like....fine.....no view, low floor.....it is a holiday weekend...ok.....i won't be difficult.    Ok...so we get back to the room after dinner at Scarpetta in the fountain blue....drinks out and about...its like 2am.....my room is right in front.....people are still going to the club/bar in the w hotel the place is crawling with people.  All you can hear is 20 cars lined up in the front with every "I"M THE COOLEST GUY IN THE WORLD" sitting around revving their engines........this hotel seems to enjoy people treating the front of the hotel like the daytona 500.....this is the W not the motel 6.......is there anyone with a brain working here?  How about a little behavior control.....you have guess staying in the hotel trying to relax....why would we want to listen to this?

The next day......nobody calls about the room switch...i finally call around 3pm....they tell me sorry sir we are 100% booked and there aren't any notes about switching rooms.....l'm like great.....i'm %$&#*@!  Then after arguing with the Whenever Whatever staff........they tell me.....this is what we'll do.....stay in that crappy room for one more night....and we will upgrade you to the next best suite tomorrow night.....at the time i thought i was staying for two more nights.....but it was only one more night....so i agreed like an idiot.......

That day we went to the beach and got beach beds......when the guys set them up...i tipped him a $20 and asked for a waitress.....YES SIR NO PROBLEM SIR HAVE someone right over.......30 min later still no waitress.......i had to walk back up again....and ask......needless to say the beach experience was not very service oriented.   We go out that night.....have dinner....hit some clubs.....come back around 3am......go to the room....all of a sudden a fight breaks out in front of the hotel.....cops show up and are everywhere.......they proceed to sit out front for 4 hours...flashing all the lights.....well my room is right over the front canopy....so the lights are flashing right into the room no matter how i adjust the blinds.......torture!

Oh..i almost forgot.....earlier in the day.....they put these nice bose stereos in the rooms.....with really nice thick bass......i had the music playing....during the DAY.....it wasn't even that loud.....and two security guys come to the door.....i didn't even turn it down because it wasn't too loud....and they tell me that someone complained about my music....if i don't turn it down....they are gonna have to "REMOVE ME FROM THE HOTEL" who talks to guess like this......i swear this place was soo ghetto at times......

DAY 3.....supposed to do room switch and finally get to relax.....no one calls....finally i go to the front desk...and see the original girl i checked in with.....i tell her how we were forgotten about and she replies....oh...i'm sorry.....I WAS OFF YESTERDAY....i'm like....how about notes in the system....etc......she was like...im not sure what happened.....i explain whats happened....i even let her watch 5 min of video of the police lights flashing in the room....and the cars revving...and noise...etc....she offers nothing in return for the inconvenience.  (Continued)

This review is for the hotel lounge, otherwise known as, The Living Room.

Yes, as a local, this is my favorite "bar" on Friday and Saturday nights.  I'll bullet point for quick and easy reading :-)

     - plenty of parking:  YES, parking on South Beach can be quite a hassle (and quite expensive).  There is a large clean lot right in front of the hotel.  There are also street parking right across from the hotel.   Of course valet is available, or park your whip up front.  You'll be in good company.

     - ambiance: bookmatched marble floor to ceiling walls.  Vertical stacked stone columns.  Flush recessed lighting fixtures.  B&B Italia fabric sofas (so comfortable that it inspired me to get one) Alpaca and mohair chairs. Fragrance is piped through ventilation system.

     - the bar:  of course, the bar.  If you're wanting a drink, at least try some of their signature cocktails.  Check out a mango ginger mojito, or a blueberry acai martini.  Not familiar with acai?  Come find me and I'll intrigue you.

     - the people:  I've always found the most intriguing people are those that have traveled extensively.  You will find people from all over the world here.  I've always had great conversations, and most of them I can remember!  Of course, the men are well tailored, the women could be on the cover of Sports Illustrated.

If after a few drinks and you're in the mood to hit the dance floor, the hotel's nightclub, Wall, is 20 steps away.

So if you're looking for a classy upscale evening, don't hesitate to stop by the Living Room.

Wow is all I can say. This review is for the bar not the hotel as I did not stay in a room, but man would I very much like to. Really I did not think any hotel could top off the Delano but this place is quite impressive.

Marble floors, nicely lit without being typical South Beach white, very classy and seductive, it exhilarates passion, class, hot, sexy, upscale at it's best. It is beautiful to walk through. We hung out at the back bar overlooking the gorgeous pool area. The drinks were sponsored by Bombay Sapphire, and oh what a drink! We each had the 'Miami Smash" it had Bombay Sapphire, raspberries, blackberries, lemon juice, and fresh mint, OMG how refreshing and the mixologist were awesome. They were friendly and really knew how to mix some damn good drinks.

If you ever have the opportunity to come here it is well worth the trip, this place is one of the nicest hotels offering a few high end restaurants inside, bars, sitting areas, just a great place to come have dinner, stay (dreaming), or chill at the bar with some great company.

A big thank you to Bombay for sponsoring the drinks and event. They have made me a FAN of Bombay in a big way......Can not wait to go back and visit again, maybe catch dinner at Solea, which I hear is the bomb!

-5 Stars if I could. NEVER AGAIN! I stayed there this April. I had my computer stolen out of my LOCKED room while at the beach for 2 hours. Incompetent service and incorrect room charges.

I came back to my room and found the maid in there, who got flustered and left for minute then came back. I realized my computer was gone and all of a sudden she couldn't speak English but, saw a tall man in my room (she claimed). I was staying alone my entire stay.

"Security," also called a Risk Talent Coach-- (cough)  didn't even question her or search her cart. They tried to blame me that the door wasn't locked. Police came and inspected and ruled that out as they witnessed the heavy door SLAM behind you. They also tried to make me then check out or be charged amidst the police coming to inspect.

Then, when I went to get the hell out of there because I did not feel safe, they had pool charges totaling $250 all in Patron shots. I was alone and if I did $250 worth of Patron shots in 3 hours I would be in the hospital!!

Service definitely lacking, throughout this there was not a Manager in sight or anyone but, the Police who were competent. There is definitely some team thievery amongst the staff. I would recommend not giving your actual room number at any hotel now when you get towels on the beach. It is easy for them to talk to you ask you why you are here who you are here with in casual conversation and then tell their buddy you are out of your room. I CANT EVEN IMAGINE IF I WAS STILL IN THE ROOM WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED!!!

Even the day I checked in before all of this, my room was supposed to be ready at 2pm. I get there, no room. I go to the beach and they say they'll call. 4:30 pm, still no call. I go to the desk and wait twenty minutes and then get my room. Mind you, this was not a busy weekend or holiday weekend.

I WILL NEVER STAY HERE AGAIN!!! Unless you want to bring things you do not care about and nothing of value, bolt and latch all doors. THIS PLACE IS NOT SAFE.

I recently returned from Wacation in Miami.

Yeah, I know 'vacation' is spelled with a 'v'. But when you're staying at the W, the entire concept of vacation is truly redefined.

This property is less than a year old and is stunning, even by South Beach standards. There's marble throughout (no skimping here), and most of the lobby is dimly lit to maintain that seductive feel that W's are known for. Our room was larger than most Chicago studios and came equipped with a beautiful terrace. Ocean views are awesome, but how about ocean winds? That's exactly what we got on our terrace in addition to enviable panorama of the beach and beyond.

You're just blocks from Lincoln Road, the toiletries (by Bliss) make you look and smell delicious, the bed almost makes makes you want to camp out in the room, the staff caters to your every want and whim... really, why stay anywhere else?

And the shower head deserves its own sentence... WOW! Best shower of my entire life, and that's no exaggeration.

    Definitely worth the extra dinero!

    CRIMINAL TIP POLICY!!!
Wish nothing but the worst for the arrogant bartenders that get a non negotiable 20% tip on all over priced drink orders and don;t even say or look like they thank you???
So let me get this straigh $16 for a drink +TAX, I get it, its an international hots spot...
I don;t get giving some hipster gebroni bartender a $5.76 tip for taking 9 seconds to make my drink.
And if i dare pick up a round of drinks for a group, I am tipping $15 for the bartender to hand me 5 drinks...
    Its a bunch of BULLSHIT!!!

I am a huge fan of the W Hotels, so I expected South Beach to deliver with as much gusto as the ones I am familiar with back in California.
I stayed the weekend here and loved every fabulous minute of it!
The Living Room and the Wet bar are always a great time, and the dj(s) spin indie-chic music throughout the hotel, so there's never a moment that you may feel out of vibe.
I lounged in my bath robe for most of the entirety of my stay, and everything was pretty much at the tip of my fingers. Service is excellent here. Professional, courteous employees and respectful residents.
W South Beach surpassed my expectations as a luxury hotel, and I am definitely excited to visit again.

    This place is absolute heaven.

I was lucky enough to stay here for a night and it was paradise. We arrived in the early afternoon and went directly to the pool. The outdoor area is unbelievably gorgeous. Drinks are very pricey, but for an unforgettable day like this, they're worth it.

The service at the W is unbeatable. Our server at the pool was sweet and very personable; she was constantly checking up on us. Then again, we also drank very quickly and was in need of refills quite often. When we told her we couldn't decide on where we should go for dinner, she brought over the VIP manager, who laid out the options for us and gave us a review of each restaurant. We decided to try the Meat Market since he highly recommended it. (Turned out to be a phenomenal dinner - review to come.) He calls immediately and booked a reservation for us. We didn't have to lift a finger.

Our room was modern and posh. Our terrace overlooked the beach on one side and the city of Miami on the other. It was perfection.

I would go back to this paradise in a heart-beat. Just be ready to shell out a nice chunk of dough.

I have been coming to the W ever since it was built. So modern and tastefully done. The lobby bar is called "The Living Room" and is very comfortable. Clearly it is not like my living room since there are million dollar pieces of art displayed all over, but still very pleasant to be there. The outdoor bar area "Wet" is spectacular at night with beautiful lighting and a wonderful ambiance. The night club "Wall" is kind of like the Florida Room at the Delano, but with much more door drama at the velvet ropes. The rooms here are beautiful. Every room has an ocean view and is decorated in sleek modern design that will make you never want to leave.

Crazy week in south beach brought to you by the W. This is the pinnacle W experience. I've always felt the style and attitude of the W doesn't fit all the cities they are located but in Miami it's the perfect blend of sexy sophisticated fun.

Stayed here for 6 days in Bungalow #5 which I was told many times its one of the nicest rooms in the entire resort. Calling it a room is an injustice. It was basically a townhouse in the middle of the pool area. 3 levels including a huge rooftop terrace with a private soaking pool, wrap around couches, LCD tv's and a bar!! Place was dope. First level is decked out with a large micro suede L couch, photo shoot modeling light(!), 52" inch LCD w/ Bose surround sound, dinning room table, wet bar, and a big half bath. There are two 10ft glass doors that open to a very spacious private patio with comfortable furniture and an outdoor shower. Second floor has two bedrooms each with private full baths. One of the bedrooms is much larger with a balcony overlooking the pool, walk in closet, and a huge f*** me shower. We have now arrived back at the rooftop terrace with amazing beach and pool views. Room service was some of the best and most consistent I've ever had. Like all high end resorts in south beach everything is super expensive but this town was made to spend money. As expected there were incredible women everywhere since it was Miami fashion week. A lot of the trashy MTV reality chicks were staying there too.

The W South Beach is the best W hotel I have ever experienced. The location in Hollywood disgusts me, Westwood location is nice but alas not the hottest hotel to be at and Fort Lauderdale...well just not the biggest fan of that city overall. Alas, The South Beach location had great decor, great staff and draws in some great guests.

While the rooms are not mind blowing, they are up to par and do offer great views.

The location, is to die for. It's away from the riff raff on the 10 streets. There are a lot of frumpy and semi-ghetto tourists that always linger in South Beach, around the W, I found myself feeling more safe and that all in all, the people were much more classy. Aside from being away from the common street trash, you are close to several great bars, restaurants, shops, gyms, etc. Whether you're trying to go to LIV, Soho Beach house, the David Barton gym, etc. the W is located reasonable distance between them all.

The restaurants on the ground floor are great. The Dutch, has a really cool vibe and draws in a great crowd, I was impressed by that. There's also a Mr. Chows which I don't really think I need to explain since it's a renowned restaurant with a flawless reputation.

The hotel is definitely worth a stay.

Well you walk into the W and wow wow this looks like a real good time. Beautiful art work, funky stores.....but if you happen to visit the Grove Lounge watch out!

Prices on drinks are W high- $16ish, they reflect the current mixology craze, they're good I'm not going to lie. Had the guacamole appetizer- $18 it was only meh. Service hmmm what service. Had to finally go into the bar to find someone to help us. The bartender finally took our order. Finally got some silverware. Finally got our tab. It's what you'd expect for to cool for school if you're just a regular Joe.

This review is only about the pool bar/lobby.

I went there for a friend's birthday. I'll start off by saying it's pretty but the crowd was meh. The staff was meh. The service was meh. The bill was ridiculous! I ordered a glass of champagne and was charged $39.00! $39.00 FOR SOME CHAMPAGNE IN A NARROW ASS FLUTE! I don't know, man, I guess I am not used to those ridiculous prices but whatever.

We lounged around by the pool and had a good time together but I am not sure that I'd go back. But then again, I've only been there once so maybe it wouldn't hurt to give it another shot.

You can't deny that the W is a nice hotel. Great balconies, comfy beds, iPod connections all over the room, lots of suite options that you may want to consider for that girls' trip weekend,  beautiful Pool area, and pretty much direct access to the beach with umbrellas waiting for you....but you have to take a taxi to pretty much every place (unless you dine at Mr. Chows) that you'll want to go since this hotel is somewhat removed from many other Miami attractions and if you opt to dine in the hotel you should be prepared to pay $60 for a salad. Nonetheless a good time was had by all.

As we walked in we had a glimpse of the gorgeous pool at night!! I said to myself..." aww this is why i love Miami!"

W South Beach is one of a kind style service and unique beachy trend setter vibe.

As a local.... there arent too many other locals who prowl around these stomping grounds but its always a nice time when I come.

    Pros-

Hands down the best interior decoration on Miami Beach

    modern sleek design gorgeous furniture

the lounge has great art work, high priced drinks and upper class crowd

this bartenders called themselves " Mixologists"

and take there jobs very seriously but hands down..... the bartenders at the lounge are the best on the beach!!!

Once the lounge closes head to WALL the club on the other side...may be hard to get in at times.. they let people in only ordering to their "looks"

    Cons---

drinks are about $20 so expect to pay top dollar but the mixologists are very talented!

parking can be a hassle depending on what day you go....

PS- if your a Big $$$ baller in a Lambo just pull right up and valet... But dont be SUPRISED  cause there will be four more Lambos in different colors!!! lol

    BooOoo W!!!!!

Let me be clear this review is solely based on the pool bar and lobby.
I have not stayed at this particular W.  However, can we talk about attitude!! Really, red velvet ropes tying off room to room? Is that necessary? There was no one there! Lol!!!

But what really repulsed me was the bar.  I ordered a vodka on the rocks and my boyfriend asked for a black label on the rocks, the bar tender literally measured out a shot...in his tiny metal jigger poured it into our glacier filled cups and gave us a $37 bill.
    WTF!!!!! Wackkkk!!!!!

If your gonna charge me $37 for a drink, at least give me a drink!!!!
Not an ounce of alcohol and charge me the cost of a bottle!

    BooOoo W, boooOo!

    April 2013:
I have been to Miami several times and I have always had the best experience.  It is one of my favorite places to vacation.  This was my first time staying at the W South Beach and it was the worst hotel/vacation experience I have ever had.

On my first day of vacation all of my belongings were stolen from me at the W South Beach Pool.  My bag was practically in arms reach of me on my pool chair and I had turned my back on it for no more than 15 minutes to sit on the steps to the entrance of the pool.  When I turned around to grab my wallet for drinks, it was gone.  The security team claimed to have seen nothing on the video surveillance and the security people checking key cards at all of the entrances claimed to have seen no one with a huge candy cane striped kate spade tote bag.  To say that I was severely disappointed in the way the hotel handled the situation and treated me after the incident is an understatement- especially given that I was with a group of around 70 people paying a lot of money to stay in the hotel.

Even besides this, I thought the hotel rooms were mediocre, my balcony overlooked a street with tons of noise and cars, there was loud construction for several hours a day, the main pool is SO SMALL that if you don't get out there before 11 am there is a wait list to have seat by the pool.  If I am paying all of this money to stay at what is apparently a 5 star hotel, I expect to be able to enjoy the pool.

Even if my belongings were not stolen, I would never stay here again.  I would recommend the Fontainebleau 1 million times over this hotel.

What a joke! On the outside it looks and feels lovely on the inside it feels like everyone is on something...I have a issuing door on one of my closets, the rung is stained the couch is stained...$500 dollars a night and for what? To look good. The staff is and was delightful. Wish I could say it was great. If you want to be seen then go. Expect nothing more than a marriott experience.

I don't think I can stay anywhere else on South Beach---not after having experiencing the W South Beach. I am ruined for the others.

It was my friends bday (Happy Birthday Keri!!!!!), so naturally we stayed in the 2 bedroom suite--I still dont believe how beautiful the space was.

The rooms are plush, contemporary, and spaced out. Beautiful black and white design--everything new and super clean.

The bathrooms were stocked with Bliss spa products which we enjoyed thoroughly.

The balconies (yes, we had two) overlooked the pool and the beach.

You totally can live in these suites (in my dreams)-- I think some folks actually do.

Service was on point in every way--everyone was at your beck and call. Porsche Cayenne courtesy car, for free---yes, believe it.

I even appreciated the smallest of the amenites--like the fresh apples at the front desk every day--gotta stay green :)

My only regret is that I didnt utilize the full kitchen like I could have. Everything was available in there if guests wanted to make breakfast, etc.

I hope to go visit here annually from now on.

    *W STANDS FOR WOWSERS**

OMG. I want to own a piece of this W property.

All 511 units faced the ocean with unobstructed views, all units had 9 foot ceilings, 5 1350 sq. ft bungalows, and all condo owners had the option of participating in the W Hotels rental program?!!

    HOOK IT UP.

The exterior of the hotel exudes modern Miami glam without sacrificing the tropical beach zen-like decor.

At the entrance, a Collection of Sanrio sculptures, 'Hello Kitty', 'My Melody' and 'Miffy' attracted us Asian ladies IMMEDIATELY.

Palm trees swayed and welcomed us as we passed by the chic Mr Chow and Soleá. Was told that there were six cool bars as we lingered and relaxed in the Living Room.

Location was also ideal. Walking distance to nearby restaurants, clubs, and other hotels. Convenient and beautiful? Wow.

We enjoyed laying in the FULL SERVICE pool area with a very friendly staff. We took advantage of the private beach area as well. With reclining lounge chairs and fresh towels, we were in suntanning heaven.

The W South Beach was my favorite hotel in SoBe for obvious reasons: upscale, beautifully designed, and wonderful amenities for the refined traveler.

    HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

The place is very slick, like a well designed office building. We had one of their best suites with a great view. The shower has 4 different ways to shoot water at you, and there were two TVs, one across from the bed and one about 8 feet away across from the couch, love the shower but I don't understand why with the TVs... The staff was genuine and nice and they aim to please, they walk you to places that can just tell you how to get to, etc... The food at The Dutch restaurant was -not- good for dinner, but the breakfast is nice... You never exactly feel relaxed there because it's so sceney, it's a place made for luxury shoppers and parties. It's a great place if you want to show off Puff Daddy style, but, well... why?

The W hotel is a beautiful hotel with a great location by the beach.

Stayed at this hotel to celebrate my birthday with my girlfriends.

    The Good :)
We stayed in the oasis suite. The room was very spacious, 2 rooms 1 and 1/2 bath, kichen, dining area and living room are. There were 2 private balconies, one in living room and 1 in bedroom. The view from the balcony was amazing. It was nice to go out there and relax overlooking the ocean and miami. The room was elegantly decorated and there was a cd playing when we got there, with a good mix of music to get us in the right mood.

There was a note on the dining table with some delicous little french macaroons wishing me a Happy Birthday, it was very cute.

While staying at the hotel, we saw LeBron James, very exciting!

    The Bad :(
There was a waiting list to get a chair by the pool. I gave my number for them to call me when a chair was ready,  I never received a call.

Decided to go to go and sit out by the beach instead, when I got there, they asked for my name so they could look up my room number and depending on the type of room, the amount of chairs I would be able to get. They did not have my information. They apologized and said sometimes the system takes some time to update. The gave me the default number: 2 chairs. After we sat down, I looked up my email found my room type, showed them and they gave me the 3 chairs I was entitled too. It was annoying to have to go get this information for them.

The pool is too small for a hotel this popular. It gets really packed, no chairs, not enough space.

The next day we got to pool early 7:30 am hoping to get a pool chair. By the time we got there 88% of pool chairs had already been taken and there was only about 4 people there??? We were finally able to get some chairs though.

Overall if not for pool situation, hotel was great :)

Stayed at the W, South Beach last year and felt intrigued to write a review because I am planning another trip in Early Fall.  W Hotels can be so hit and miss but THIS location is a MUST!!  The staff was excellent from the moment we stepped foot on the grounds.  They were all helpful and professional, from the sweet man who helped us with luggage to the nice, very complimentary man by the pool.  The location was PERFECTION, I walked pretty much everywhere and yet felt set aside from the chaos.  Friends came and visited easily and were able to meet me at the lounge.  The room was magnificent, the spa was heavenly, the workout facilities were ample complete with tennis courts and a half-court basketball area (plus I was able to get a discount next door at David Barton!)  and it was easily accessible to the beach and the lovely boardwalk.  I have been to the W, South Beach twice, and each time was not been disappointed.  I look forward to returning!

    World class resort.

Rooms are spacious and amazing.  Pool is the best (and one of the biggest) in all of Miami.  Grounds and lobby are welcoming and comfortable.  Service is very good too.

I stayed at the W a little while ago with some friends...The rooms are a really small and kind of dark- not to mention there is practically no view besides a brick wall.

On the other hand- the hotels service was excellent and for that reason alone I would come back.

The rooms have a really swanky vibe, kind of hard to describe. I'd recommend this hotel to groups of friends or younger people...not really a family orientated hotel.

I stayed here in December for one night (Saturday into Sunday) as I was waiting for a friend to arrive from out of town.  Beautiful hotel.  Rooms were spacious and new.  Had a nice sofa and balcony.  Wonderful bed and great shower, which is great for couples or single people.  It might be weird otherwise as it is slightly see-through.

Service had its bright and not so bright moments: Service was great at the beach on Saturday.  Incredibly attentive.  While checking in I left my water and a chocolate bar near by.  I went back to find it but it probably got thrown away.  Someone, forgot who, provided me with a free bottle of water and a chocolate cake pop!!  So thank you!! Sunday the service was horrendous as the server kept skipping me at the each.

I wasn't too impressed with the food at the hotel.  I ate at The Dutch, ordered chicken but had zero flavor.

I'll probably be back, most likely on a Sunday or Monday as it's probably quieter than a Friday or Saturday (impression from other reviews).

Save your money and stay anywhere else.
I'll start off with the positive: we arrived in the morning and got in our room early.
Towels changed twice a day (although this is terrible for the environment)

    The constructive/bad:
No coffee maker (gave up after the 4th call) asking for one that never came
Shower flooded and it took 2 calls and 30 minutes to be repaired.
    Fridge that didn't work.
    Don't expect prompt anything here.
Weak drinks that cost you upwards of $16-18 plus don't forget the 20% gratuity included so slow service plus another 9+% for the taxes.
The pool, we got our spot then came back 40 minutes later to find the b&$$hy pool manager had moved our stuff that was spread across our chairs. (Apparently you can only be gone from your chair for 30 minutes. (Which was not the case the days before and had NOT been told to us) I'm sure if my bag was a Louis Vuitton it would not have been touched.  And the free wifi outside is not free.  I've stayed at other places on south beach and spent less and gotten so much more from better quality more  places.  Would never stay here again. Plus it's close to nothing.

Wow Rooms, Wow Public Areas, Wow People, Wow View.

This is the spot of SoBe.

What's not so Wow? the staff service.

The service attitude at this place can be a hit or miss.  However, this is a typical W hotel attitudes so I am used to it.

I stayed at two different fantasic suites during my separate visit.  Ask for a room with shower / tub combination, The room itself feels much more spacious than the one without.

Very lovely hotel right on the beach.  Loved every second that I was there.  The service was great and the room was to die for!  The lobby was alright, not as inviting as other hotels I've visited.  However, the giant crying Hello Kitty statue makes up for that.  I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to friends.

Love this hotel. Stayed in one of their rooms for a weekend with a beautiful ocean view. The room was very spacious, two balconys, a kitchen with a bar area, two living rooms and an enormous bathroom. The room had nice modern and artsy decor. Very modern, eclectic, futuristic vibe here. Service is excellent and staff are friendly. Enjoyed the beach area, very clean and not congested. Had my own beach chair and umbrella and had a relaxed stay. They have a large public parking lot next to the hotel. Will come back.

LOVED this hotel - and the staff.  Not only is the hotel absolutely stunning, the staff went above and beyond to accommodate our sometimes crazy requests (had engineering blow up a floaty for us, then to our surprise delivered even it right to us on the beach!).  Also taking room service orders past kitchen closing time. Truly blown away by their customer service at this hotel.  This is how you keep people coming back!

My fiance and I stayed at the presidential suite for his brother's med school graduation. We arrived around 1AM and had to leave for the ceremony by 6:45AM. Exhausted from flight delays, we were pleasantly surprised/welcomed with a bottle of red wine, gourmet cheese + crackers, and fruit platter. Our suite was literally a condo unit - 2 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, full kitchen, living room, and 2 balconies. The view from the suite was beautiful - facing South Beach and the skyline of Miami. Made me wished we didn't have a graduation to attend and instead to stay in the suite for the weekend. We ordered room service after snacking on nothing but yogurt pretzel from Delta lounge earlier. My fiance and I shared the beef empanada which came in 4 miniature sized ones in an order. Nothing amazing but it was fresh and delivered promptly. Presentation was beautiful and the server was extremely friendly despite such late delivery. Although I ate the whole cheese and cracker platter all by myself on top of the beef empanada less then 3 hrs before breakfast,  I decided on ordering room service for breakfast the next morning. I opted for the papaya mango smoothie with hazelnut french toast. My fiance ordered the breakfast special which is a breakfast burrito. We asked them to deliver our order at 6:15 and it arrived exactly on the dot. However to my disappointment, they weren't able to fulfill my French toasts order that morning when they arrived with the rest of the food (it's a sign that i should probably give my inner fatty a rest). So my fiance and I ended up sharing the breakfast burrito - which worked out perfectly cuz it was more than enough food for the 2 of us - the burrito was HUGE and beyond amazing! It was the best breakfast burrito I've ever had. Who knew such quality food would come from room service? They even gave us 50% off on the remaining order to make up for the French toasts.  My fiance and I had a really pleasant stay and only wished we were able to stick around for the whole weekend/enjoyed the pool/beach! Will definitely stay in the W here in Miami in the future!

*sigh* Really I wanted to stay here since the FIRST time I visited South Beach.  So this trip was for a birthday celebration and we were ready to do it up BIG so why NOT the W in the middle of the HOT areas of SOBE.

I WAITED til someone contacted me to discuss the issue BEFORE I had these issues.  The best I got was an apology, and was asked to return.   oh okay a few sorry's for my bad time.

Let's start with, when I called I KNEW about the construction next door from the yelp reviews. I inquired and they told me no worries we will put you on the other side. NOT! with my beautiful view I had to see the EYESORE as well as HEAR the grinding construction.

*****BEWARE THERE IS A HIDDEN 13% fee that is NOT included in your quoted rate total****

Now with ALL of this EXTRA HIDDEN 13% WHY when on the beach would you CHARGE me for a friggin umbrella?  REALLY?

The room itself.  EVEN THOUGH it IS a 2 bedroom and I got the 4th night "free" for the total of $3600 I REALLY expected more.  I've been in hotels where EVERYTHING is touchscreen, surround sound and just a lot of FAB small touches.  There are NONE here.

The billing.  I got a COOL 4th Night Free promo, and the total told to me on the phone and emailed was $3057  HA! I ONLY ever looked at the confirmation on my smart phone and ANY OTHER hotel when they email you a total or tell you one on the phone there is NO hidden small asterisk to say oh by the way in that total that does NOT include taxes, fees etc etc.  Are you KIDDING ME!?!?!  so NOW there is ANOTHER 13% that is DUE at the end of the stay.  WHY NOT tell me this upfront.

Now since I reserved the 2 bedroom Sanctuary Suite, I had 2 friends checking in the day before I was to get there.   I asked FOUR different times with FOUR different people on the day of check-in when my authorized guests on this reservation show up WHO'S card will you hold for the incidentals.  They ASSURED me it would be mine ESPECIALLY since if I did not cancel before the cancellation date they would AUTOMATICALLY put on hold and charge one night.  Now I am NO stranger to 4 and 5 star hotels and I KNOW how they work.  I just wanted to be sure my guests coming did not have to use their card.  HA jokes on us!  when my guests check in they had to PAY for the FIRST night.  Now not only did they charge them the FIRST night but decided to put a HOLD on and then Charged for night two.  I have NEVER paid per night.  I normally get a HOLD for the TOTAL amount, then at the end they charge the total PLUS any room service etc at the end.

After charging my friends, they also charged me and put a DOUBLE hold on my card.  Are you KIDDING ME?!  then during the stay they called and left messages TWICE asking to come to the front desk to handle the bill and when I'd get down there they would never KNOW what was happening and tell me it's a mistake.

    COMMUNICATION PLEASE!!!

After all this craziness they gave us a courtesy late checkout at 3pm.  Well at 1pm they are calling me asking when would I check out and was I paying for ANOTHER night.  ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?!?!?

the location is FAB...and the people working doors, bells etc...FAB.

BUT if you want a better ALL around experience...yes SEEK elsewhere for a little less or UPGRADE to the most expensive spot on SOBE.  don't stop here.

I came here after staying at the st regis, so I was spoiled at that point - but it's a great hotel. I love the pools and the landscaping around the pools - it felt like an Alice in wonderland maze kind of! I love the bose speakers, I was blasting music and enjoying the room completely. It came with a laundry and a kitchen (we had a suite) and there was two living rooms. Spg upgrades are great :) beautiful beach view we had. The hello kitty outside and the characters are absolutely adorable too. It was only one night that I stayed but it was good. Hopefully will get to return

Close to Lincoln Road, and after going into the Delano and Shore Club we enjoyed ourselves at the Wall. Decorared with Marble everywhere, and our stop here made our vacation memorable.

And wow, what can I say? People in South Beach know how to party and have a good time. So we sure did too. I've been to a few W Hotels in different locations, but this one is stunning. It definately has a beachy white seductive feel to it.

I had a great time dancing and lounging at the WALL. It was an awesome way to end the night by partying there. We got in without paying no cover and no line so we got lucky!

Everything you would come to expect from a Starwood Hotel in the heart of South Beach. This hotel has an incredible location directly on the beach and the service is top notch. The hotel has 2 great restaurants Mr Chows (Asian) and The Dutch (gastropub) as well as a hotel bar/lounge that gets really full called the Living Room. Don't forget to visit the nightclub attached to the club called THE WALL, it is an incredible place to party all night!

This is the most amazing hotel I ever been to.  I am an SPG snob and a former consultant so I been to my share of SPG properties but this hotel is definitely on top of the luxury/trendy list.

First of all, W hotels are not for everyone.  If you like your hotels "homey" like you're in your grandma's house (*ahem* Marriott properties), this hotel is not for you.
If your idea of a hotel is to feel like you're a celebrity, spend 18 dollars on cocktails, have a server walking around the pool bringing you $18 dollar drinks with a 20% gratuity automatically tacked on, having your own private area of the beach with Cuban workers running around trying to make you feel like a king, this hotel is for you!

Seriously though, if you're on a budget, this hotel is not for you.  I'm not a snob by all means but you have to know what you're paying for.  The rooms are amazing; I've stayed both times and had amazing views of the beach.  The bed is so comfortable, and they have BLISS products in the bathroom.  I'm a dude so I have no idea what this means but apparently my gf tells me BLISS is expensive so awesome!
The bathrooms are spacious; there is a tub for a Jacuzzi, rainforest showers.  They also clean your room TWICE in one day, and come around early evening to offer you free water!

If you can get past the whole snobby I'm too trendy for you vibe, seriously you'll get your money's worth here.  I  mean, you are in Miami after all!

The only bad side is that the hotel is a bit away from the times square vibe of the ocean dr.  But they have a free car service that takes you all over Miami beach for free!  So can't complain about that.

Very nice rooms and spacious balconies which are nicely appointed. Larger fridge and microwave are nice to have.. BOSE system in the living area is cool. But mine just stopped working after the first day.

My critiques are That I had an enormous food stain on my carpet in my living area. It's a removeable rug.Shouldn't they remove it when this happens?

They don't have enough elevators to accomodate everyone. It takes an extremely long time to get to the lobby from an upper floor.
Also- Is it an elevator, or a nightclub? I like hip music in elevators, but does it have to be loud? No bar at the beach, and the one at the pool closes at sundown. They want you to go to the bar inside with it's $16 drinks.

Not much around here except the beach if you don't have a rental car.
Also- a club sandwich (hold the bacon) and a side of stale fries is $38.

Nice place in a great location at the top of South Beach. The staff at the W South Beach is extremely friendly and helpful, and all of the amenities within the hotel grounds are very well staffed and maintained. The pool is especially nice, but come early as chairs are reserved first-come, first-serve. Tip: there's a small side pool on the north end of the big pool that is a bit quieter. Also, you won't want to miss the frozen strawberry daquiri!

Parking is about $38/day for valet (in-and-out privileges); a bit high, but there are few alternatives, so just bite the bullet and live large.

All in all, I'd definitely stay at the W again!

I stayed here for three nights in November 2011 for free in a "Spectacular Studio" having benefited from an SPG promotion and subsequent upgrade.  It was a very enjoyable stay.  The building is on the newer side and is impeccably maintained -- both the rooms and the public spaces were spotless (and you can tell in the rooms, which are dazzlingly white).  Service was warm and competent everywhere I went in the hotel.

My 16th floor room overlooking the ocean at an angle was beautiful - very modern and chic, with a comfortable sitting area with its own flatscreen TV and Bose sound system.  It took me a few minutes to figure out how to lower the floor-to-ceiling wood louvered window coverings but caught on quickly enough (bend the handle and crank).  The bed was huge and comfortable like a W bed should be.  i slept very well all three nights.  The bathroom was beautiful - all gray-and-white marble, white vanity and glass vessel sinks.  The shower (no tub) was huge and had multiple sprays and good pressure.  They were pretty generous with the Bliss toiletries, too.  Went home with a nice amount!  Closet space was generous and the safe is big enough for a 15-inch Mac laptop.

The desk also has plenty of outlets for charging your devices.  My only quibble is that they should have installed two halogen lights in the ceiling above the bed or two LED gooseneck ones on the headboard for reading (it is fairly dark to read.  I guess not many people read there!). The terrace was pretty spacious, but I wasn't wild about the chairs - they were hard to get comfortable in. I will not complain about the $14.95 per night internet charge as they comped me for that, too (I am SPG Gold). Wifi worked great in the room, not so much anywhere else.  AT&T customers beware - their phone signal is almost nonexistent at the pool and bars.

I lounged both on the beach and at the pool.  I vastly preferred the pool.  The beach is OK, but way too many birds appeared when lunch orders started arriving,  Gross - it was like a Hitchcock movie!  Service at the beach was fine, though.  The pool, which you do need to get to fairly early in the morning in order to reserve a well-located chaise, gets crowded but not unpleasantly so.  I found it to be very social and the servers were friendly and competent, which amazed many of us there since the 20% tips are built into the bill.  Food is varied and tasty, if not inspired, and drinks are strong and well-mixed (and at $16 should be!).  The fresh mango juice was outrageously good.

Lincoln Road and Ocean Drive are both walkable from the hotel, and there is a well-stocked 24-hour Walgreen's across the street so you can avoid the minibar charges.

Had a great stay, but I would think twice about paying the regular rates (my room normally goes for $559 a night in November!).  Free is definitely better.

I had no issues with attitude from any of the employees, even though we were there over the weekend during Art Basel, we experienced no problems at all. In fact, we were given 2 hours more on checkout and free internet with Starwood Gold.

Beautiful hotel and rooms, very trendy location. Yes, the drinks/food are really pricey, so buy your own at a grocery and use the fridge you layabouts.

Tip is included at most places in South Beach due to the unfamiliarity with tipping that many of the foreign tourists have with that practice. At least you won't get an escargot in your coffee (I'm looking at you Paris) either.

Would definitely stay here again if I could get a good deal. Highly recommended for a romantic weekend away.

My stay at the W was pleasant. The staff was very attentive to our party as we all flew in for my girlfriend's birthday.  At one time The W was known as the THE IT HOTEL where all the young and on trend people hung out, but in South Beach where the competition is stiff, this award still goes to Fontainebleau and The Perry South Beach Hotel. The drinks here at the W were overpriced, no HH specials in the hotel. This can become an  issue when your already laid out on the beach and you want a Mai Tai, Rum Runner, or Pina Colada while your relaxing....the intention is to stop at one, but we know that won't be the case.

The pool was nice and the amenities that come with the beach; chair and towel service are all standard of luxury hotels, however  I was still fantasizing about The Perry and what a great time I had last year. The rooms are very similar, but if you like the action with lots of options of things to do in your hotel, you may want to look beyond The W South Beach.

The location is great as far as walking to Lincoln Rd and Ocean Drive if you like to walk. A huge plus was the complimentary Acura Car Service, which I thought was nice, particularly when we were all dressed up to go out.  Breakfast was fantastic, the selection is huge....I enjoyed the hotel; overall it is a nice place to stay. And what woman would object to their room being stocked with Bliss Spa products? (I have lemon and sage body butter for days)

I recommend this hotel if you are looking for a nice quiet weekend.

Consistent, amazing service, gorgeous modern accomodations and a perfect location.

This W is the gold standard against which I hold all other W hotel experiences and usually this one manages to remain the top of my list.  The service has always been warm and accomodating, helping us with everything from complimentary contact solution to dinner reservations to nightlife suggestions.

Expect the rooms to be sleek and modern, all with balconies overlooking the beach.  Equipped with its own prestine beaches, the W South Beach has great beach-side service from chair and towel set-up, complimentary snacks and water and an amazing beach-side menu of tasty offerings.  Regardless of when we were visiting (October, April, summertime) there were always ample chairs and umbrellas for us to relax.

The concierge is always extremely accomodating and available and the massive air conditioned lounge is a nice relief from the heat.  We were even able to check out late and leave our bags all day while we wandered around downtown Miami before our evening flight.

Love the complementary flavored water everywhere!

I stayed here with a group of 15 for my recent birthday and had the BEST hotel experience I've had in a LONG time. I am a Starwood gal and have stayed at dozens of their properties wordwide, and this really takes the cake.

The hotel is beautiful - it is definitely the best W property I've been too, and achieves a very impressive mix of swanky hotel and beach resort. The service is impeccable, something you would never find at a comparable hotel in Los Angeles.

I had the WOW! suite which lived up to it's name - it is a massive room with not 1 but 2 outdoor balconies, 2 outdoor showers, and a hot tub on the upstairs balcony. The upstairs balcony also has a full size kitchen (BBQ & fridge), which was great for entertaining.

Several groups in my party had the Oasis suite, which was great for a group of friends, with a bedroom and media room that had a pull out bed, as well as a full kitchen and a nice sized living room.

Even the standard rooms were impressive and offered plenty of space and great views!

The in-house restaurant, the Dutch, was phenomenal - food much better than most hotel restaurants- make sure to get the bagel & lox - and they were very gracious when we wound up staying for several hours several times....

We rented the WOW Cabana one of the days, and had great service poolside as well.

All in all I was 100% WOWed (couldn't help it) with this hotel - definitely go if you have the chance.

W stands for worst hotel I have ever stayed at in my life.

1: Just as another guest reported, our removable carpet was really soiled.
2: Our toiletries had definitely been used and had someone else's hair on them.
    3: No coffeemaker.

We called three times about the coffeemaker and toiletries to get them replaced.

4: Our shower was never warm and flooded our bathroom and into the bedroom. We also had to call three times to get this fixed.
5: You can only leave stuff by the pool to hold a spot for ? 20, 30 or 60 minutes. Depends whom you spoke to.
6: The ceiling in our bathroom leaked.

7: To top it all off, no one apologized or offered us anything until I was asked how my stay was and I said: worst hotel stay of my life. I have stayed at much cheaper hotels and had better service and been treated far better. I will remember this for future trips to Miami and avoid the W. Also drinks are weak and good is terrible. Stay far away!

I encourage you to spend your money elsewhere. Please stay away!

The lounge has the best music, DJ spins great tunes and have you dancing all night long. Pool area was so much fun. Order sangria at the pool and hang for hours or walk down to the beach which is just steps away. I can't wait to come back.

I really enjoyed staying at this hotel. Our room had a great ocean view. The beds were very comfortable as well. The staff was very friendly and go out of their way to make you feel at home. There was one guy in particular that seemed like he never went home because we saw him in the morning helping out around the pool and then again that night (after coming back from a night club) at the door greeting guests. He was really friendly and always made sure we were taken care of when we saw him. I wish I could remember his name but it was about a year ago (early 2013), when I stayed there.

I love the W Hotel brand but this overall experience was a 2 at best.

I give the pool area 3 stars but the rest of the hotel is a joke.

Beware of the incidental charges ahead of time. We stayed for four nights and the hotel placed a $2500 hold on our credit card for incidentals without even informing us. Our cost for four nights was only $1600. How is a $2500 incidental charge even possible? They claim that this was disclosed on our confirmation email but I pulled up the email and handed the staff my phone. This was nowhere to be "disclosed." It was a huge inconvenience for me that I was not informed of this even at check-in and my card was frozen immediately after the $2500 hold for a fraud alert by the bank. After the management realized that my confirmation email did not include any incidental notice for this excessive amount, they removed the hold. That still didn't help the situation with my card still being frozen.

After check-in, we proceeded out to the beach area to order some drinks. Yes its true...they are $18 drinks and by the time the waiter returns to the beach area to serve your cocktail, (approximately 20 minutes or so is the norm) they are completely watered down. We each then ordered two cocktails, doubles and yes....the bill was over $80 - For two double cocktails.

The nights were sleepless as our room was vibrating with noise from the nightclub downstairs. We slept with the TV on every night to distract us from the noise.

We dined at Mr Chow one evening as well and the food was disgusting. The servers were also pushy and annoying. This place is so overrated.
If you want servers who think they are all the shit and then proceed to serve you $200 worth of slop, this place is for you!

Will be going back to the Fontainbleau next time.

Spent a girl's/bachelorette weekend here and we were all very disappointed. I was the first to arrive at 11am. The unfriendly desk staff said the rooms weren't ready but they would store my bags for free while I waited. It took several complaints and 6 hours later before we could get into our rooms (which weren't even that clean). If the staff had been honest and told us the wait would have been so long, I wouldn't have been irritated.

There was a possum running around the pool grounds (which was pretty terrifying) and not one staff member seemed to care. One guy actually asked what we suggested they should do about it?

It took 4 phone calls to room service before we got an extra blanket - why would they assume that a suite that sleeps 4 only needed 1 blanket?

The concierge was generally clueless when you asked for advice on what to do or where to go unless it was suggesting you eat at their way overpriced and not very good cafe and restaurant. $10 for a large latte is just insane.

While one of the rooms had a nice view and lovely balcony, it was above the nightclub and vibrated until 5 am.

In closing, if you want to overpay and get treated like dirt, the W is the hotel for you.

I forgot to add that it is "hotel policy" for them to imprint your credit card information onto the back of EVERY RECEIPT THEY PRINT.  Yes, this means that any thief could easily have access to your information.  The staff couldn't tell us why this happened other than "this is the way they do things."

I stayed here late last year and it was great. I love that the beach is in my backyard, so it was really easy to access. But it comes at a price tag! If you can afford to cough up the extra bucks, this place is well worth it.

We went to the W to the club. I have always liked to stay there. But when we decided to party with them my wife was not allowed in. We are a gay couple and she was not wearing heals. They would not let her in since she wore flats, even though they were Italian leather (very expensive). We will not frequent their again! I am disappointed with the W for their prejudice towards us. Shame on you!

I hardly go on yelp and give reviews but I feel obligated to do this. I came here thu for my friends bachelorette part and stayed in W after first nite I got up with major big bites on my back and all I could think was that these are bed bug bites. So they switched our room but I got up nxt day wore bugs so finally  I went to ER and they confirmed it's bed nite bugs. Let me tell u it's not fun. But what I'm really disappointed w W hotel is how they been handling this. First of all they denied the fact that it's bed bite bug  not even offering to compensate or do anything. So sad for a hotel at this caliber to have this kind of issues

I booked a weekend here and had an ocean view suite confirmed. It was late (9:30 pm) and I was tired, when I got into the room I noticed the "ocean view" was actually trees. I called down to complain and the agent at first said there was nothing he could do until the next day since i was staying in the correct room "type" and they were booked up. Eventually I spoke with a manager who was able to solve the issue by moving me to a higher floor.

The room itself was fine, calling it a suite was a bit aggressive since it was a large rectangle with no wall division between the seating area and bed (usually the mark of a suite).

The hotel pool looked nice, but it's small and there isn't much seating. Your chances of actually lounging there are slim (unless you're an early bird). The beach acts as a spill over for those that can't be accommodated by the pool, but they don't have much wait staff out there so getting food or drink is a pain. Also if you want an umbrella that'll be a separate charge (!).

I also tried to get a late checkout but they couldn't do later than 12. They said there was a "hospitality suite" for changing/showering which sounded ok. When I went to shower there I found a couple others waiting to do the same and it was a pretty small little hotel room, not exactly a luxe experience. Though at least there was a dedicated cleaning person to keep the room from going to hell.

Without the checkin/out snafus it'd give it 3.5 stars, it's ok.

Revised down 1 star at check-out. Called for baggage assistance and car, 20mins later the car had arrived, but no one had arrived to help despite a number of people standing around in the lobby. Tried to take a cart myself and was reprimanded... How about, "I'm so sorry, let me go with you right now and help vs this is our cart, you can't have it, but I'll send someone up." You said that 20mins ago...

Stayed here for Memorial Day weekend and aside from checkout, was treated like a rock star and the place is amazing. Was upgraded to the Ocean Suite and it had breathtaking views of Miami Beach and the ocean. I never wanted to leave the sprawling condo and know why these sell for $3M+. Definitely worth spending at least a weekend here.

    Bedding: modern and comfortable
Bathroom: 1.5 baths. Fully updated, separate shower and large tub
    Wi-Fi: Paid & a bit unreliable
    Parking: $38/night valet
    Nightstand outlets: No!
TV: 3 TVs in living room, media room and bedroom. Colors are a bit bad and I didn't appreciate how they locked the HDMI port. Bose system was cool, but the remotes disgustingly had corroded batteries and didn't work.
    Fridge: Full fridge
    Microwave: Coolest microwave I've seen
    Coffee Bar: Yes
    Hotel Bar: Yes
    Make a Green Choice: No
Other Comments: pool is amazing, with a DJ. Beach is a nice spot and you get 2 chairs free. Not sure why they have to nickel and dime you $15 for an umbrella. Beach service was horrible and severely overpriced, even for the W on the beach ($18 hotdog). Good location, walking distance to the south of all the action. Room also had a washer/dryer.
    Would Return?: Yes

This is a stylish hotel in a great location, not too far from Lincoln road, and by the beach.
I stayed there for a week-end (2 nights) while trying to escape the cold NY weather.

On the plus side: stunning facilities, including a large pool, a basketball court, a tennis court, a 24 hour gym, and a spa. I have not tried any of the 2 restaurants, Mr Chow and The Dutch.

On the minus side: I arrived around 1pm and there was no room available for check-in. They offered to text me when my room was ready. They did not acknowledge my SPG status. Many guest have trouble to get to their floors using the key card.

I was going to a meeting at the W and told the parking guys that i would only be there for 1 to 2 hours. When I went to collect my car exactly 2 hours and 1 minute later I was told it was $24! What?
Then I waited for 20 minutes till they brought my car around. The woman in charge couldn't care less and even the manager noted that I was waiting a long time, but did absolutely nothing.

What a poser hotel. pretending to be about quality and really being about ???

If you're looking to have your belongings stolen and have security cover it up then...be my guest...NOT.

I had checked out of the W South Beach hotel on June 7th 2014 at 12:18PM with a party of 7 other people. We purchased a cabana by the pool and I placed my purse inside the covered part of the cabana to protect my belongings of theft. After hanging by the pool I stepped outside of the cabana to site-see the area and look for some food down the way from the hotel. I returned 30 minutes later at 2:08PM to our cabana to find The W South Beach security personnel at our cabana and my party with shocked looks on their faces.
They explained to me that we had been robbed.
One of the ladies purses had been thrown into the bushes completely upside down with $700 stolen. Another individual from our party had her purse ransacked with $300 stolen.

I started to look around the vicinity where our purses had originally been sitting to discover that my purse was physically gone. I own a brown $350 Michael Kors purse, that included over $3000 worth of belongings including:
    $400 cash,
    my passport,
    driver's license,
    social security card
    a Michael Kors watch,
    Michael Kors wallet,
    my ID,
    checks,
    gift cards,
    hair brush,
    debit card,
    credit card,
    prescription glasses,
    car keys,
    house keys,
    garage opener
work badge, and other belongings that I can't remember because these are all items that had been thrown into my purse due to my recent check out just we had been rushing out of the hotel trying to beat the check out time of 12PM

The security personnel were very suspicious in how they handled the situation.  One security personnel under the supervision of Kennith Richardson refused to show us the tapes and for 2 hours continued to tell us that they were still rewinding through footage from their cameras. After waiting for 2 1/2 hours for the police to arrive, the security changed their story and told the officer that the security cameras were actually being worked on during the time the theft had occurred.

I believe in some way the hotel staff were involved in the theft of my belongings. If it is the case that The W South Beach does not have properly operating cameras then this is an issue of negligence on the hotels part. I ABSOLUTELY highly discourage anyone from staying here. There is definitely something illegal going on within the premises and unfortunately I became a victim of their schemes.

My family and I stayed at the W Hotel for my 21st birthday weekend. We initially booked two rooms, the oasis suite and the fantastic suite. Both rooms were very nice despite being on completely opposites side of the floor. After having some issues with the bedding being feathers, despite our profile stating that we were highly allergic, we were upgraded to the sensational suite. The sensational suite was amazing! The suite is very spacious and comes complete with a kitchen and laundry machines. While the hotel itself is parallel to the ocean, the views are beautiful.

Cesar Arriago and Claudia Mosconi went above and beyond to make sure that my 21st birthday was as memorable as possible. From the free drinks to the cabana to the beautifully decorated suite with balloons, streamers, banner, and dessert, it was a birthday that I will never forget! My family and I will most certainly be back and are looking forward to our next stay at the W hotel in South Beach!

We stayed here for a weekend because our cousin was getting married and though it is really expensive, it is such a nice hotel. Huge rooms with fun decorations (a gold, ceramic pig, a huge, mother of pearl hanging thing, kaleidoscope, etc), turn down service, Bliss products, etc. We lounged on the balcony a lot and while the baby was sleeping, had a fabulous picnic on the very big bathroom floor. You need your key to access the floors, easy beach access and a beautiful pool. The wedding we attended was simple, elegant and well executed. The ceremony was on the beach, cocktail hour was outside in the lounge area behind the pool (my favorite, it was so pretty) and the reception was in the ballroom. Gorg.

Con: No free Wi-Fi which I thought was super lame especially because you're spending so much to stay there.

My friend and I stayed here this past weekend for 3 nights. The front desk staff quickly recognized that we're both SPG Platinum guests and greeted us as such, which is always nice. We asked for a roll-away bed, and were first told that it would be $75. Perhaps my raised eyebrow helped the person helping us change his decision and the bed was provided free of charge. :)

We were upgraded to the Lower Penthouse floor and the view was simply awesome. Great ocean view and really comfortable chairs on our balcony! The hotel staff were particularly nice and recognizing that there were 2 occupants in our room, left extra water and towels.

The pool area is REALLY nice. The crows is a bit on the older / pretentious side, but I guess that is to expect on South Beach. Are the food and drinks overpriced? Most definitely!

We also had drinks at the bar, which was just OK. I thought the bartenders could be a little friendlier - they were a bit too stoic in my opinion.

Overall, I think this is a really nice hotel. If you're looking for a calm spot to take it easy, this is likely not the place.

If you're looking for a trendy, upscale hotel, which most W hotels are, this one definitely fits the bill!

The W South Beach is simply amazing!  I stayed here for 4 nights over Halloween weekend for my birthday. Simply the best! High-end hotel. Check.  Amazing rooms and amenities.  Check. SoBe Models??? Check.

I am definitely not a hotel snob but these days whenever I travel for vacation I always look for comfort + luxury + trendy. My favorite hotel for the past several years has been the cosmo in LV and let me tell you the W comes very close to eclipsing the Cosmo. Maybe it did! Different destinations I know, however the vibe and scenery at the W was just amazing.  Pool scene And service was great.  Food was so-so at the Dutch. However please cut back on the salt guys else you will kill someone. I didnt try Mr. CHOW the onsite restaurant due to poor reviews so Hakkasan @ the Fontainebleau took the business for my birthday dinner celebration. Maybe the W should tell Mr. CHOW to get their act together!  I don't mind blowing $$$$ but food must be good and there has to be value.

Overall I will definitely stay here again.  Staff was really friendly and went above and beyond. Amazing suite - I'll be back next October!!!! Be warned it is expensive but a lot of guests already said you get what you pay for which is amazing service and amenities.

Oh!! Almost forgot to mention the house escalade driver - thank you so much for taking us to areas around the W!

To say that this hotel is a complete underachiever is to say that Ryan tannehill has a decent arm. This place fails on almost every level

No pool chairs first two days. Fine but then you have to pay for an umbrella on the beach. Do not disturb sign on my door. No problem. Please come in uninvited two days in a row to see how I'm doing.

No please don't serve me. For the second day in a row, I had to chase down a server to even get service then proceeded to wait 30+ minutes for a drink.

I had a bachelor party here about five years ago which was fantastic. Since then, this hotel has managed to go downhill on all levels. I would never stay here again or recommend this hotel to anyone. Glad my stay is only a short two days.

A beautiful hotel with excellent service/ I go to Southbeach several times a year and I have stayed at many different hotels. For me the W is the best one. Service was helpful and friendly from the doormen, conciere, reastuarants, pool and the beach. The suites are amazing. I had the Mega Suite. 2 floors, plunge pool, outdoor kitchen  and dining room, 2 sundecks. Great for having company.

I'm here almost every weekend with my boyfriend and by far this is the best hotel in south beach. Rooms are excellent, room service is great they even have pet menu, the restaurant and bar at the lobby are amazing and the hotel location is perfect. Not too south where is too busy and not too north where is too quiet. Close to great restaurants and right on the beach. I guess the only downside is that they don't have enough seating by the pool area, chairs that are in the sun are always occupied and so far we didn't get to enjoy the pool area, but we have eaten there a few times and food is always incredible.

Husband and I came down to vaca here over a holiday weekend.  We did not make reservations as we just roamed the strip and stopped at many hotels.   All of the other hotels were a lot cheaper but for some reason we have agreed to stay here.

This place is very expensive and the $ per night should have at least included a complimentary breakfast at the least.   The restaurant that the hotel provides was very delish!  Loved the service once the server finally got to us.  Which took him about 10-15 min.  But was at it's best after his arrival. Also very expensive.

The pool is pretty awesome to have right outside the hotel. Was never packed and pretty cool as they serve drinks and food right to your chair.  The music was also a plus to the atmosphere.

We enjoyed the beach area with reserved beach chairs as well. That was a nice touch.

The room was awesome! Loved the up to date decor, huge modern bathroom, and great balcony view!

Hotel also has a night club in it that we did not make to but heard it gets pretty busy.

All in all it was an upscale hotel but for the almost 1k per night I would have hoped it would include breakfast, lunch, or dinner instead of the housekeeping coming to clean the room 5-7 times per day.

Worth the stay, deff recommend, make sure you gots $$$$$$ to blow.

I'm not personally all that invested in the W brand, though I understand why some people might be.  As for the W South Beach, it's a well designed but overpriced place with a pretty good location, sufficient scene for the trendy South Beach crowd, and a friendly enough vibe.  The prices are exorbitant, but if you're an SPG member you can get a room for "only" 30,000 points per night - even then that comes out to $600+ based on my valuation of SPG points so any way you look at it you're paying a lot for this hotel.

It's a nicely designed hotel, the rooms are fantastic, and as an SPG Platinum member I got upgraded to a large 1-bedroom Oasis Suite.  Unfortunately, it was on the bottom floor overlooking a parking lot and right near the front entrance so we could wave to the taxi drivers from our bedroom, hear people all night, and be subjected to honking horns at random intervals throughout the day.  Nice upgrade, huh?  The room design was honestly great, but if I had paid $1000+ for this room I would be very unhappy.  The one thing that saved this visit was our W Insider Claudia who was kind enough to have Champagne and a piece of strawberry cheesecake delivered to our room for my wife's birthday which really made the stay.

The issue with the W is that they seem to miss a lot of the small things - which is not what you expect from a W.  The valet space in front is tiny and the traffic was crazy on a slow weekend so I can't even imagine how bad it would be on a busy weekend and I'm amazed we didn't witness an accident during our stay.  Then the same area is where you're supposed to pick up a taxi - which also doesn't work well and half the time there's nobody there to help you get a taxi.  Very strange for a high end hotel.  Also, if you like second hand smoke or cigarette ashes falling onto your balcony from above then this is your hotel.  All the cool kids still smoke, apparently.  And bring their dogs which is generally fine but occasionally you get the yippy little dogs or next door we appeared to have a large German Shepard which went crazy barking at one point during our stay (not sure what it was but it sounded like a German Shepard).

The restaurants & bars are above average, the pool and beach are nice, and everything is about twice as expensive as you would expect.  If you have unlimited money or the W lifestyle is your thing, more power to you.  Even with a free room I'm not sure I would stay a the W South Beach again, but maybe time will change my mind.

Wow, what an amazing hotel. If I had to rank this place with all the hotels I have ever stayed at, this would be number 1.

We had a room on the 11th floor with this gorgeous view of the ocean. The room itself was extremely trendy, clean and modern. I've never stayed at hotel where the room was so nice, I actually wanted to stay and hang out in the room than go out and do vacation stuff.

The staff was extremely friendly and let us check in a bit early.

The location was great because it was close to other trendy hotels, restaurants and clubs. Everything, especially the beach, is in walking distance.

This place is for a young hip crowd. If you are looking for a place with an exciting nightlife and chill pool atmosphere, this is the hotel for you. Yes you will pay more for drinks and food, but this is a luxury hotel and should be expected. You get what you pay for, and that is excellence when you come to this hotel.

there's only one WHITE CASTLE in SoBe (South Beach) and it does NOT serve steamed burgers. it's luxurious and palatial W SOUTH BEACH HOTEL aka the White Castle or White Palace. i prefer White Castle for comedic effect.

    MY 100th YELP REVIEW
1st PRO TIP: look at my photos for this hotel

whether you're Ubering, cabbing, or driving in yourself. first thing that hits you is luxurious WHITE entryway with tons of W staff. W offers valeted parking for your domestic, foreign, or luxury wheels. it's like $40/day. whether it's a ferrari or that topless porsche aka headless horse--these guys have seen it all and will park your wheels with a soft touch.

lobby is enormous with uber-high ceilings and it's decked out with loungey furniture and various desk stations (concierge, purchase a residence at the W, etc.).

first thing that hit me was an avalanche of cold air-conditioning. YES! the reception/welcome area is fairly small and lines can build up. i have only seen like 3-4 people staffers manning reception. i had to wait a bit to check in, but instead of going NYC/Type A/Entitled insane...i walked over to the concierge and just politely asked if someone could check me in. low and behold, the gentleman there said of course...check-in was a breeze. see it pays to be NICE bc i got a double-upgrade on my room. ALSO, it pays to be a SPG member (starwoods preferred guest) and rack up those points like LeBron.

the room:  2000 sq feet. it was completely baller from the door to every corner. giant mirror for gratuitous selfies in the entry hallway. washer and dryer tucked in a closet in case you're staying in the W for a while like me OR you miss the drudgery of Laundry Sundays. least here you don't have to wait or get quarters. Hurrah!

kitchen--steel face appliances (microwave, stove, oven, dishwasher, etc.) in case
you want to cook your own meals or take photos and pretend to friends you have an awesome kitchen. here's your chance! the fridge also contains your typical mini-bar offerings of booze and eats.

the living area had a couch, chaise, chillaxing chairs, flatscreen, stereo, etc. and a whole bar of booze along with cobble shaker in case you are in the mood to shake a drink or throw an impromptu party in the suite. bedroom was baller: TV, plenty of outlets, and a balcony that connects to the living room area. mine overlooked the pool and ocean.

bathroom was gigantic: jacuzzi (i think) tub, two sinks, AND a gigantic shower that could fit a THREE people. PRO TIP: save water via threesomes bc that's the only reason three people would be showering together, right? right? *wink* the bathroom is stocked with everything you need as a guy. no need for toiletries as most stuff is Bliss Spa stuff. who knew smelling good was simple n easy? live n learn. if you need something W staff is only a dial tone away from getting something you need.

the gym? 24 hours by keycard. superclean. pretty legit. tons of free weights. benches. punching and speed bag for you pugilists. bouncy balls for the yoga and core folks. weight machines for spot training. there were about 12-14 cardio machines: treadmills, ellipticals, etc. this gym blows away all those rinky-dink hotel gyms that have one yoga mat, a tennis ball, a log, broken cycling machine and call themselves a fitness center. the W gym is the real deal. PRO TIP: the gym fridge is stocked with complimentary bottles of Dasani water. so when you're thirsty, just grab a couple from the gym.

ALSO on the rooftop there's a regulation size bball court if you want to get your Jordan on. Or just be Nadal bc there's a tennis court as well. there are hotel pro's if you need help.

back to the lobby. plenty of places to lounge. PRO TIP: WIFI is FREE in the lobby. the lobby has a small shop that is open 24 hours. didn't pay attention to anything in the shop except for the ATM which is your only lifeline to cash. Mr. Chows is on the ground level via the lobby--full of fine dining Asian eats. other direction of the lobby has The Dutch, which is Miami's interpretation of a casual neighborhood bistro. lastly lobby also leads to the Living Room which is a big bar lounge decked out as a luxury living room.

the pool is magnificent with tons of lounge chairs. PRO TIP: get up early if you want to lay out or you'll end up waiting for a spot to free up. the beach is public, but W Staff sets you up with chairs, umbrellas, etc. for a fee. my advice: pool. then beach. and bar/eat. repeat til 6 pm. nap. and take on SoBe nightlife!

the staff at the W SoBe are customer service NINJAS. always on the prowl, making guests stays oasis-like. W staffers live and die by the Whenever/Whatever mantra--meaning if you can think it up...they will make it happen! they made my stay a truly PLATINUM BALLER FANTASY ISLAND vacation. 'i didn't check the price 'cause all i did was swipe!'

final PRO TIP: book a room, get here, let the vacay takeover, and paradise cometh. it's that simple.

This is my favorite W hotel that I've stayed in. We had the ocean front view, 1 BR and media room. The decor was tasteful, upscale and in great condition.

Besides the poshness of the W, which is to be expected, here is the list of things that stood out at this location.
1- complimentary morning coffee (Stumptown) down at The Dutch restaurant so skip the nasty in room Starbucks coffee.
2- washer and dryer in the room for your sandy beach clothes
3- nice sized, fully equipped kitchen
4- huge pool and private access to the beach
5- the large fitness room was amazing and equipped with clean towels, bottled water, and a variety of equipment in excellent condition.
6 - there is a basketball court on the roof

WET by the pool , somewhat of a small selection of food but the ambiance and music is nice . Fresh cocktails and diverse menu.

Living room also has a great atmosphere, DJ and nice indoor and outdoor seating .
FRESH garnish and some of the best cocktails and bartenders in Miami !
    Check it out Tuesday, Thursday-Saturday.
The service in the whole hotel is exceptional !

WALL lounge is my favorite small lounge is all of Miami ! The entire staff is friendly and has an international scene.
    I recommend !

A nice hotel but not a great one.

It's on the beach and ridiculously expensive, like the others in the area.  My room had a nice view of the ocean, was comfortable, and had nice decor. The staff is friendly but there were a lot of little problems that shouldn't take place at this price point.

One day, when housekeeping serviced my room they forgot to collect the dirty glasses from the previous evening. Another day, I left the hotel about 10am and returned at 5:30pm and the room had not yet been cleaned.

Bar service in the pool area at night was terrible, yet drinks by the pool is supposed to be one of the highlights of a SoBe hotel. Drink quality was mediocre. In fact, I came to prefer walking to the bar at the Surfcomber--which is about three hotels over from the W--for evening cocktails.

I had a late checkout approved when I checked in, but they didn't code my key for it. On checkout day, I returned to my room after lunch around 1pm and my key didn't work.  So, I had to go back down to the desk and have them recode it.

All these are minor annoyances, but at these rates and at a resort, there should be zero annoyances.

Order the frozen grapes. They are amazing. The chicken sandwich and the Caesar salad are both very good. It is pricey. We ate at the restaurant called WET by the pool. The grilled hot dog was also good. The server was attentive and friendly. Great place to people watch.

The W exudes everything I think of when I think of South Beach.  Trendy, sexy and flashy.  The hotel is modern, gorgeous and certainly has a staff to match.  We were there right before new years and the atmosphere was electric.  I would have loved to have stayed into the new year, alas it was not meant to be :(.  The hotel is on the beach, which is great.  It has a beautiful pool, but beware that snagging spot on a lounge chair can be cut-throat.  If you don't get there early, forget about getting a spot.  However, this might only be true when the hotel is at booked at capacity.

Our room, I mean our bungalow, was a three story townhouse.  The first floor had a full living room, dining room and half bathroom.  There was a front and back (fully enclosed and private) terrace with lounge furniture.  The second floor had two master bedrooms with their own bathrooms.  The bigger of the rooms also had its own balcony and huge walk-in closet.

The third floor, was probably the highlight of the whole suite.  There was a grill, a dining table that could have sat 8, an outdoor shower and private saltwater pool.  The only word that can do the bungalow justice is RIDICULOUS.

The hotel is pricey, but the attention to detail and helpfulness of the staff set it apart from the other big name hotels that are just further down the street.  If you're able to splurge on the bungalow, go for it! However, the hotels amenities and staff alone put this hotel in a league of its own.

Disgusting room and was victim of fraud at the hands of this hotel.   To start out, we arrived exhausted from traveling to Miami at 4 pm.  Our room was not ready.  They said that they would call us when it was ready.  That happened at 5:30 pm.  There was supposed to be a roll away bed in the room.  That did not arrive until after 11 pm.

The sofa was so disgusting I was concerned about sitting on it.  See attached pictures.  The carpet was so filthy that within about 5 minutes of walking on it right after a shower our feet were filthy.  This room was $1,000.00 a night.  The only thing missing in this robbery was the gun!

Got two drinks served to us on the beach for $50 (they include their 18% tip automatically) that did not have alcohol in them.  Apparently the bar tender forgot that part.

Now the big one:   I went to the concierge to inquire about getting tickets to Dave Chapelle appearing at the Fillmore.  They use a ticket broker called My Local Seats.  Guillermo the concierge contacted them and offered us row 3 for $400 a ticket and row R for almost $200 a ticket.  We took the row R tickets.  The tickets were supposed to arrive at 7pm the night of the show.  I was to pick them up from Guillermo.  We were supposed to be at the venue at 10.  It was much after 9 and the tickets had not arrived.  Finally at 9:30 they did.  The tickets were row RR.  There is no row  RR at the Fillmore.  The venue's last row is PP.  The broker stated that the Fillmore added two rows of folding chairs for that show.  The manager of the Fillmore ticket sales said that that was not true.  Furthermore two rows of folding chairs would not fit behind the last row, PP.  It defies logic that I was anticipating buying the third row yet would buy tickets so far back that they actually didn't exist and pay almost $600 for these non existant seats (there were 3 of us).  The W is standing behind the fraud that they and their broker perpetrated upon me.  I am in the process of filing a complaint with the Consumer Protection Division of the Florida Attorney General.

There are so many better hotels to stay at on South Beach, I urge you to avoid this one!

My Stay Here was for a week. The room has an amazing smell and products used are bliss goes well with the smell of the room. We had a balcony over looking the ocean, it was always nice to go outside and sit and have a drink. The pool area was beautiful and you have a private beach right outside the hotel for guests.

The restaurant mr chow was an experience, I'll have to review that as well. This is located inside the hotel so need to go anywhere else for dinner.

This hotel has a personal driver to take you places 5 mile radius ask the front desk!

Great experience, had a lovely time and all the staff were nice and helpful
