convenient location for coconut grove.  only problem with this hotel now is that since Nikki Beach Coconut Grove is next door, loud music may prevent you from sleeping easily if your room faces that side...of course, turning on white noise will help drown out the bass...

Let me preface this by saying that if I knew beforehand what a bustling dandy time I'd be having in Coconut Grove FL, let alone in getting there with the melee of hurricane season air travel, I wouldn't willfully go there.

But if a work assignment beckoned again, I'd head straight to the Sonesta.  Honestly, in a town where I felt socially marooned, I didn't mind being marooned in the room I had.  Fantastic bed, kitchenette, high rise balcony overlooking the Atlantic.  And superior, courteous service all around; right up there with any 5-star hotel I've been in.

And a pool on the 8th floor overlooking Biscayne Bay.  Niiiice.

    4.5 stars, really.

Lovely.  We stayed there for a conference and everyone couldn't have been nicer.  Even the condo owners who ride the elevators were all very very nice.  Super helpful front area staff, and they were very mellow, bending little rules like arriving at the breakfast at close in the Peruvian place at close, but letting us in anyway.

Lovely art all around, clean modern lines, great beds, down pillows and kitchenettes, bathrooms were ok (could be nicer). The only thing was there were two minor mechanical problems in our room, and they had to come fix them, but were nice about it.

Loved the pool / jacuzzi with the view of all Miami from South Beach to the south side, and the bay and Atlantic in between.  Peruvian restaurant was so good, and so reasonably priced, we had breakfast there daily, and went for dinner once.  Terrific.

And the gym rocked.  Most hotel gyms are terrible. This is above the penthouse, and has a view looking west.  At night the lights are great and in the day, the birds circle the mall below (kind of memorizing).

Basically, I'd be happy to live there, it was so great.

Intriguing, reading the previous review....  I stayed at this hotel for a few nights with a friend earlier this year.... my experiences were quite the opposite.  Check in/out was third rate.  The bell and valet service were decidedly less than one would expect at a hotel in this price range and supposed calibre.  We went to a couple of catered functions, and it was evident that if the customer (the person who hired the hotel to cater the event) doesn't absolutely micro-manage every single thing, then catering itself won't think to suggest it.  Case in point, catering brought out a meal, but had forgotten to remind the host of the need to order something to DRINK with the meal.  As such, the whole catered meal had to be put on hold while catering fetched water, tea, etc.

The restaurant service simply sucked.  It was terrible, but I'm told that's par for the course in Miami now-a-days.

The room was fine.  It is, in fact, a condo-hotel, so the rooms weren't as luxurious as I would have expected, but they were acceptable.  The view was very good.

All in all, I wouldn't stay there again.

Stayed there for a week or so October last year.
    Love te Italian toiletries :P
Room was kinda small but not bad with a little kittchenette.
One down side it that the fire alarm went off (somewhere not in our room) in the middle of the night... I mean 4 in the morning....it was kinda scary but then no one came or call to see if we were okay...you know just as courtesy.
It wasn't a sunny day in Miami the bay was kinda cloudy color.
Oh well.. Staff were very helpful. Valet did take a quite long time.
The hotel is adjacent to the main street of Coconut Grove.
Oh another down side... we had a neighbor and both of us used to hang out a lot in the patio.... since there are really no divider or privacy between the rooms it was kinda ackward and I did not feel confortable sitting out.
    Would definitely go back through.

This hotel is in a great location, walking distance to all the shopping, restaurants, bars, and entertainment of the grove.  The roof-top bar provides panoramic views of the marina and bay.  This is a great location for a family to stay and see the best of Miami, while avoiding the late-night craziness of South Beach.

The restaurant staff was very accomodating and helpful, however I did see one tourist complaining about how long his food took.  This man embarrassed his family and stormed out of the restaurant.  The staff quickly took care of the other family members and apologized to me that I had to witness the scene.  I told them I sympathized, after having worked in several hospitatlity positions, and they gave me a free drink for the appreciation.

The rooms are clean and quiet.  I have stayed there a few times and have never had a problem with noise from my neighbors.

The valet staff is also great - I never waited more than a couple minutes for my car.  Although I know my way around, they always tried to be helpful and give me directions.

I'd recommend this hotel to families and business people.  Spring breakers should stay somewhere else.

A sure let down!  Came here for my honeymoon having booked it through Priceline.  The lady at the front was truly unhelpful as she said she couldn't find my reservation and was making rude comments such as "I wish people knew that booking through the internet is not reliable."  Even though I had the confirmation there she was complaining that she didn't know how to charge me!    She didn't offer to call priceline or to be of any help.  She just gave me the phone and was like, here you call and figure out the problem.  I was shocked!  Finally when I had finished talking to priceline, nobody helped with the bags, she gave me and my husband our room and it was the smalles and the most uncomfortable room ever.  Valet is extremely expensive.  I will not be returning again.  Don't waste your money in this hotel when there are much better hotels in the Miami area.

I've been staying at the Sonesta for a number of years now when I come to Miami on business.  I used to really look forward to it, but I probably will go elsewhere from now on.

The location is great--right in Coconut Grove--and the water views are beautiful.  Rooms are comfortable, and the beds are great.  No complaints!

Here's my beef: I booked my stay as a retreat to do some work in peace and quiet.  Well, I didn't know that there would be construction going on from 9am to 5pm all day.  While I can appreciate that the hotel wants to stay perky, I think guests would also appreciate knowing this in advance--and not just with an email saying that the front entrance has been moved to the back (hard to navigate).  I called the front desk to ask if the noise would be happening all day and I got an obviously canned response of "we are working hard to make our hotel great and keep it looking lovely for the future" etc...well, sorry guys, it's hard for me to care about your anonymous guests in five months when I can't do work because of the drilling.  The only response they had was a "sorry, yeah, it's annoying but they can't stop".  I would have appreciated something like "let's see if we can find a quieter room for you" or a "breakfast is on us tomorrow", but even as a repeat guest that was not offered.  Sonesta, you let me down! Please let people know when they're booking what they are in for--the honesty is appreciated.

came into miami for a business trip.  did not really know where i wanted to stay.  i picked coconut grove for its restaurants and shops.  1st i went to see what Mutiny Hotel had to offer, but it was sold out.  So i chose Sonesta Hotel.  WOW they were almost sold out too.  I got a room for a reasonable price of about $150 a nite.

The hotel is 4 star and i was very impressed with the valet, lobby, front desk, room, pool, restaurant and over all service.  I highly recommend it and will return soon!  shout of to Alex from the roof top pool.  nice guy.

Beautiful Hotel!!!! the views are breath taking , very romantic! I signed up for their mailing list and I would always get special offers. So i took adavantage of it and went with my husband, we love it!!!. The hotel staff was very nice and made us feel special since the moment we arrived, their restaurant Panorama serves peruvian food and it was outsatnding but that is another review. The rooms where good size, clean and beautifuly decoraded. nice choice for couples, very romantic and great location.

At least he lobby was really nice.... my room though, it sketched me out.

It was clean, but the place is an obvious refurb. Nothing was new or nice. Looked like all the "old" was simply painted over. It was also loud. I could hear people coming in and out of their rooms. At 4am this is unnerving. I felt like i was in a dorm.

The view I had was really beautiful and the Peruvian food from the hotel restaurant was really tasty - but these positives aren't enough for me to stay here again.

The people were very nice and views from the rooms were stunning.  They lost a star because I could not access the Internet from the hotel unless they reset their  router.  They couldn't tell why this was happening.  Eventually, I had to walk to the neighborhood Starbucks to get online but by then  I had already missed 2-days to work on a project.

The town was nice.  Lots of restaurants within walking distance.  I was not there very long, but I enjoyed my stay.

This hotel is good. But it's just that. My room was small, even though I had apparantly been upgraded to an ocean view. This so called ocean view was about 10 feet wide between this hotel and an apartment complex. I almost called to ask if I could be downgraded when I saw my friends room. Secondly, the front desk people are not the nicest people, one gentlemen accommodated us really well when we checked in early, but the good treatment ended there. Resturant called Panorama is really good, although breakfast was the same buffet every day and after 8 days gets boring. The gym is aging, although it has working cardio equiptment and weights, the weight machines are in desperate need of an upgrade.

Recently traveled to this location for a long weekend, some good and some bad comments. First, the pool is awesome and the restaurant that is next to the pool was also very good.  The service was good and the food excellent.
The rooms are a bit small, but the beds were comfortable. I do have to say that the shower/tub was very nice.
Parking is expensive at $23/night all valet, this is a heavily congested area and traffic is heavy. It took us about 25 min fr the airport by cab, about $30 ride
The hotel workers were fine, I had no problems with check-in and they were accommodating, you will be charged for anything you eat/drink in your room, I suggest you take a walk and get your own snacks at CVS or a market. They also charge to use their computer/printer ($6.95 for 15 min) so if you need boarding pass printed you might want to wait until you go to the airport.
My room faced the bayside and the view was beautiful, my friends had a room facing the city and it was quite noisy from the clubs below.
It's about a 20 min drive to the beaches and if you want to go to South Beach, you might want to consider valet parking your car, folks stand by to park your car for $20 and you can walk the bar scene & beach.
Nearby is Cocowalk where we ate dinner, it's a small outdoor mall and a lot of the stores are closed down. Overall, OK for a weekend, but not a lot to do in the direct vicinity of the hotel.

My in-laws stayed here for a week over Christmas. They were in love. Every day all we heard about was the great service and staff at Sonesta. They are already going to book a trip back in March. The rooms are very spacious and have beautiful views of the bay. The restaurant, Panorama is one of our all time favorite restaurants in all of Miami. The location is perfect to walk to everything in the Grove. The valet guys were very friendly towards us every day several times a day coming to pick them up. They never gave us any hassle like most places would. Overall, they were extremely pleased.

Mediocrity abounds.  I checked in, seeing a relatively nice lobby and knowing that I was within 1 block of a restaurant where I had  an appointment.

The room was mediocre.  Not dirty, but not exactly hygienically inspiring.  The service was okay.  Seems a bit strange that they had staff (the valet, no less) who had never heard of "Main Highway" when I asked for directions.  I don't expect a valet to know every restaurant within 500 yards, but I figure he might have heard of a main road within 100 yards of the entrance to the hotel.

I went out for a few hrs, and came back to my hotel room door left open by housekeeping.  Was it on purpose or just a screw up?  I don't know, but I was not staying in a hotel where I came home to my door pegged open.  Checked out and left.

    Mediocre and poor security.

We booked a suite here, knowing that nowadays "suite" can mean almost anything. But this hotel did not disappoint. My husband and I could live quite comfortably for years in the 18th floor suite we had. A full-sized one-bedroom apartment, with a huge balcony overlooking both the bay and the skyline; a full kitchen with all necessary equipment and utensils; two full-sized bathrooms (both with full tubs!) and full laundry area. Housekeeping was impeccable, literally hospital standards of cleanliness and shine. Room service was prompt and accurate. The decor is Miami moderne: sleek, light colors, unfussy, gleaming surfaces. Every time we stepped into the lobby we fell in love all over again with the subtle citrus scent. Evenings, the lobby is aglow with candles and great mood music. Service is unobtrusive, responsive, and refined. The restaurant and outdoor bar on the 8th floor provide a beautiful view, great drinks and comforting food. Wi-Fi works like a champ throughout.

But the best feature of this lovely and refined hotel is the location: just steps from everything in the charming Coconut Grove village. We left the car parked in the hotel's garage and walked to four days of exploring wonderful sidewalk dining, dock walks, Peacock park, charming boutiques, gelatos, movies, pharmacy, nighttime entertainments. We loved this place and we look forward to a return visit. Not once in four days did I have even a single complaint. If you don't need flash and an arcade full of shops, this is a simply exceptional hotel.

Really 3.5 stars. Very clean inside & out, pool isn't so big (max occupancy is 32), hot tub is tiny, Panorama is also tiny. Had a few mimosas & Lox bagel pool side in the am that was nicely presented with great service from the Panorama staff. The view on the 8 floor is pretty, typical horizon of the bay with lots of greenery & boats. You can also see Peacock Park which is adorable in October with all the pumpkin patch festivities. Very family oriented area especially on Sundays! Lots of restaurants in walking distance gelato, smoothie King, Cheesecake Factory, some French & Italian places not a whole lot of variety. I'd check it out again. I stayed in room 1005-1 city view not the greatest but I slept well even w/the patio door open. Bed is very comfy! Pressure & plumbing works great in the spacious bathroom. Huge closet space kind of unnecessary unless you're staying for over a month. It's centrally located in Coconut Grove. The Mutiny is next door.

Stayed at this hotel for one night in December.  Our room was SMALL, and I live in NYC!!  But thats fine for us.

Ate at the rooftop restaurant, and the food, drinks, and service were great.  Front desk staff and bellmen were great.

Major complaint about this hotel was the housekeeping.  In the morning, the housekeeper started knocking on our door at 8am.  I am certain we had the "Do Not Disturb" sign out, as my husband always puts that out.  We told her we were sleeping.  Not an hour later, she returned, banging on the door.  "Just checking!" she says.  Then again.  And again.  Until we got up and checked out.

This is entirely unacceptable, at any hotel.

The valet people and housekeeping were super nice but the front desk... not so much. The room was a bit small but very clean. The place smelled nice. :-) The pool was also heated and had a nice view. For that alone I would recommend this place. However Parking is expensive- 23$ a day!

Stayed here for a few days with our 10 month old. Had a 1 bedroom sutie which was very nice - king size bed plus a master bath and a half bathroom and a full kitchen. Crib was very nice. Pool was great - wonderful views, friendly pool attendant. Dinner at Panaroma Sky Lounge was delicious but I also recommend the short walk to TK's at Mayfair. If you aren't into the downtown Miami party scene, and don't plan on staying on Ocean Drive to often, this is perfect. Very friendly staff, clean rooms, nice stay. Only downside was the nightclub or party bar not far from the hotel that plays really loud music to all hours of the morning, but that's not really the hotel's fault. If I were to visit Miami again, I would probably try to stay here again.

Nice, classy hotel. Friendly staff, great location with everything in walking distance including bars, restaurants, Starbucks. My room was brand new with a great view onto the bay. Windows actually open which I like. The bar is on the pricey side but you get what you pay for. Great selection of drinks.

I was very underwhelmed by this hotel. I booked here as a few colleagues I was traveling with made their reservations first and had their rooms here, so I was optimistic that they knew what they were talking about. Walking into the lobby I was quite impressed, the place looked gorgeous, posh and welcoming. The check in process went smoothly and then I headed for my room.

Here's where the disappointment settled in. The room, while nice enough at first glance, was just not impressive. I had a decent view from the window of the bay, but that was through tattered, shredded up, dingy curtains that needed to be replaced long before I got there. The bed was decently comfortable, but I'm used to a variety of pillow options. While there were 4 large pillows here on the bed, all of them would be smooshed down to about 1/4 inch thick after laying on it for just a few minutes- not so comfortable. Finally the floors were just large white tiles throughout the room, which did nothing to add any comfort to the experience of walking around. The final issue I have is the list of toiletries available. While normally these things are free if you forgot to pack something and are staying at a decent hotel, the prices here for forgotten items were ridiculous.

The food and drinks at Panorama were both interesting and well prepared. However, there were also some problems with the experience, namely the service. Or rather, the lack of service. Is all of Miami like this? After waiting for maybe 10 minutes I needed to flag down a server just to put in an order. Any time we wanted to get refills or pay it was the same thing again.

Overall there was nothing overwhelmingly bad about this hotel. However, as the two star rating specifies, I've experienced better, especially at this price.

Was extremely disappointed by this hotel! You walk into the lobby which is by far the best part and assume this will be a great hotel. But my opinion was quickly changed right away after dealing with the staff who were rude and unfriendly. Then the hotel went from bad to worse after checking into the room. Which was the size of a box and just as dirty. The sheets were dirty the curtains were ripped, and the carpet was last cleaned probably ten years ago. After just deciding to just go to bed after traveling and thinking at least it can't get worse my wife and I learned we were very wrong. The music from a nearby club started blasting and it felt like I was inside of the club. My wife and I were unable to sleep till about 3 am. The next day we went to change our room due to the music and the cleanliness and the rude front desk women looked us straight in the face and said there is no club and no music. Only after an argument was she willing to move our room. Btw this was all on the first day. Still have another night to look forward too! Until they make some changes I would avoid this place

My parents come to visit me a fair amount in Miami and on their most recent visit, they decided to treat themselves to a hotel a bit nicer than the Holiday Inn they usually opt for. Their weekend stay at the Sonesta remains their main topic of conversation more than a week later. For someone who frequents Coconut Grove, I had always noted had convenient the Sonesta is to the Grove itself (as well as South Miami and Coral Gables), but never had a chance to try out the hotel itself.

For starters, I was amazed at the large size of the suite my parents stayed in. They expected to have a basic hotel suite with a small living room area, but found upon their arrival that the suite was larger than most one bedroom apartments, with two bathrooms and a kitchen. I did notice however that while most hotels will accommodate guests who forget toiletry basics (i.e. razors, combs, etc.), the Sonesta charges you for them at the unreasonable costs associated with hotel gift stores.

While they raved about the room itself, my sights were set on the pool-- and I was not disappointed. The pool is located on the 8th floor of the hotel, providing visitors with not only an amazing view of the water ahead of them, but also a panoramic view of the city. I couldn't have been more content sitting on the pool deck, where friendly servers offered drinks and food (not as overpriced as I assumed it would be!).

Overall, my parents were incredibly happy with their stay and had wished they had discovered the Sonesta sooner. Both of them are incredibly simple travelers-- overjoyed when they're provided with a continental breakfast-- and the Sonesta gave them a weekend away in a lavish atmosphere, at a reasonable cost.

The Sonesta hotel is located close to the water in Coconut Grove. The location could probably not be better in the Grove. For other parts of Miami the location is also OK, not too much of a hassle to get around. Arriving at the hotel the first problem is to find a place to park. There is a garage next door to the hotel charging $15 per day. The hotel charges $23 for the valet - we had considered parking at the garage but since we were going to come and go several times during the days it seemed easier to go for the valet parking. Still I do believe that they charge to much for parking.

The front desk staff were friendly and helpful upon check-in. We were a bit early but they arranged for another room, a better than we booked, for us. Still I got to say I was a bit disappointed seeing the room. The rooms are fairly small to be in the US (would be considered large in Europe) but they were still OK. The room offer all the things expected but it is clear that it is not new. The TV was a flat screen but looking at the picture quality it is either an older model or a cheap model (the Hampton Inn and the Best Western I stayed at earlier the same trip had much better TVs). The coffee maker was also a bit old and could not really heat the water to required temperature.

The good things were however a nice balcony with views of the water, very comfortable bed and nice bathtub. The room would however benefit from adding some new furniture and replacing TV etc.

The biggest issue I had was however the sloppy cleaning. The first day I did not notice anything special but the second day I dropped my wallet on the floor and when I bent down I also got a good look under the bed and there was a nice thick layer of dust there. That prompted me to check a few other places (under the chest of drawers, on the shelves etc) with equally bad results. It appears is if the cleaning staff only do the quick and easy things and skip the actual cleaning (would of course not be necessary to do every day but the dust under the bed rather suggested it was several months since the last time).

The pool is very nice and has nice views of the water. There is also a jacuzzi beside the pool. We did not try the restaurant but it seemed a bit pricey for what was on offer. The hotel also offered a nice fitness center, it was located at the very top floor with nice views of the city. There are also 2 squash courts in the hotel - a real nice addition but since I did not know it when I booked I did not bring my racket (the ones available to borrow where pretty poor quality).

The exterior of the hotel was undergoing some renovation, did not really disturb as they appeared to be working on the city side of the hotel.

The annoying parts of the hotel were more the fact that they try very hard to be more of a upscale hotel but do not really have the necessary quality to do it. What then remains is more of overcharging for average quality. Still the hotel is fairly decent to be in the Grove

I stayed here last night and while the accommodations were fine, and the rooftop lounge and pool were fantastic, I'm giving one star because of the poor service.

I accidentally left a pair of earrings on the vanity when I left. I called The Sonesta from the road to ask them to ship my earrings. I know exactly where I left them, but supposedly the housekeeping staff couldn't find them.

These aren't exorbitantly expensive earrings, but they are very important and have a lot of sentimental value. The fact that in a two hour window my earrings went missing is highly suspicious.

    3 1/2 Really.

Booked a 1 bdrm suite for decent price ($250) with free valet at the last minute.  This is a renovated old building and remains a bit schizophrenic.  Parts are well done and parts need to be redone, but the view is impressive and you can't beat the location in the Grove.

Service is typical Miami (average at best), but the location is great.  Our suite had a lot of space, great bed, tolerable pull-out, decent 1 and 1/2 bathroom, great balcony, and decent kitchen.  Water pressure was below average and the place didn't seem as clean as it should be.  Pool on the 8th floor is nice, but small area for the size of the hotel.

Panorama restaurant on the 8th floor is great for breakfast, albeit expensive.  The Peruvian eggs Benedict was fantastic, a real must.

Stayed with a wedding party for two nights. Front desk staff was unhelpful and had an attitude which was particularly unnerving when the taxi to take us to the wedding was 30 minutes late. On several other occasions they gave various people in our party attitude and were missing the normal graciousness that has become normal for hotels of this price - and service was slow and you had to follow up twice to get anything done. (Eg when small things needed to be fixed on checkin and when there was a problem with a room safe). On the bright side, the guy working the breakfast buffet was terrific

This is the worriest hotel I've ever been to and to and I've been to and I've been to motel 6 and the travel inn . First we could not get in the room they had given us 6 different card keys and none of them worked. then they gave this ladies room away that was having her wedding and she had to go up there her and tell those people to get out the hotel did want to do anything till it got that far then they gave her the room but you should not have to go through that much trouble . It was nice upon check in that they upgraded my suite to a deluxe suite. When I arrived to my room, it wasn't what I had envisioned. There was Mac n cheese on my glass door that they didn't clean. Then the next morning, I woke up early to the construction that was one floor up and one room over. Upon check out, I saw the note about construction but it would have been nice to have been told at the time of the reservation or at least check in about the construction. Lastly since I couldn't sleep through the pounding and drilling of the construction, I decided to make myself some coffee...only to find out that they didn't refill the coffee from the last person and only placed the empty coffee bag by the coffee pot. The restaurant was nice and they were attentive but other than that, I was very disappointed in this hotel. I won't stay here again.

I recently worked with, and stayed at the Sonesta Hotel in Coconut Grove, FL. My school had a reunion in Miami, and we chose the Sonesta Hotel.  I enjoyed working with my Sonesta contact, Malena Orihuela, on setting up reunion particulars, including getting the goodie bags to our reunion members, getting maps and guides for the goodie bags, and setting up the dinner menu for a dinner event. Also, during our stay, the reunion gang spent a lot of time by the Sonesta pool (very nice, with a spectacular view of Coconut Grove harbor). The Sonesta pool employees were very courteous and accommodating, in particular, Alex Dubon. The rooms were quite comfortable, and the food and drinks were delicious. All in all, I enjoyed my stay at the Sonesta, and found the staff to be especially welcoming and helpful.

Horrible experience.  Came into Miami for a two day event and was booked at this hotel. First room didn't have properly working heat.  There was a shitty wifi connection and gnats in the room. The quality of the rooms fall short of the pictures on the website to say the least.
After calling several times they agreed to move us.  We were moved into a suite with a better view. Next day, I had to call security several times to handle noisy occupants on the 16th floor at 6am.  By the time they finally handled that situation, by 9am, there was EXTREMELY loud construction taking place on the building that kept us awake!  Certainly would have been nice to be informed ahead of time that there would be noise on Monday morning at 9am!  If this is luxury it's a joke. Do NOT waste your money. The common areas are much better than the rooms. The surrounding area offers good restaurants and shopping. The parking at $25 a night is more expensive than the $12 parking across the street. Never again!

My parents got a living social deal here and stayed on the 4th of July. They were lucky that there seemed to be a glitch where that date wasn't blocked out for the deal!

My brother and I came to hang out with them for the day by the pool and catch the fireworks that night from the balcony.

The pool is on a higher floor (not ground/lobby level) and the view is beautiful. The service was superb. We had lunch out there on our loungers and it was surprisingly good for poolside fare. The pool isn't huge, and on a holiday weekend like this, it got pretty crowded. There were people that set out their towels on the ground next to us around our chairs and it was uncomfortable because we felt crowded.

Their hotel room was nice, but small. The area where the bed and desk felt cramped, but the bathroom was surprisingly huge and there was a decent sized closet. I think because of that, it didn't matter that the main area of the room wasn't spacious. The balcony had more than enough room for the 4 of us to gather out there to watch the fireworks. We didn't have to deal with the crowds and we could escape the heat and rain if we had to.

They really enjoyed their "staycation" and my brother and I enjoyed visiting.

The Sonesta forms the very lowest tier of the luxury hotel category. And though the Coconut Grove area of Miami doesn't have quite the cachet of Miami Beach (our original objective), it does have plenty of nice restaurants to visit and shops to browse.  Plus, the same hotel on Miami Beach would cost $700/night (minimum...we checked).  The Sonesta in Coconut Grove was a mere $300.  Thus our re-think in location.

That's not to say the hotel wasn't quite agreeable. The lobby was nicely appointed, the hallways were filled with interesting art, and our room was attractive and clean. We had zero complaints in those areas. As for the hotel restaurant/bar, we were a little disappointed, but that's another review: ( yelp.com/biz/panorama-co… ).

Also, the upper floors on the east side of the hotel had nice views of Miami Bay...Or so we heard. I had paid extra for that view when I booked the room, but when we arrived the front desk staff  mentioned rooms on that side would not be ready for at least an hour, even though it was after 5 p.m.  But they did the right thing, upgrading us to a much bigger, corner suite that was available right away, but that faced inland. (Still, I really would have liked that bay view the next morning; say... over a cup of coffee and a newspaper).

Wi-fi here was a tiered system: you could do basic browsing for free.  But higher bandwidth needs (e.g. streaming) costed extra; seemed very sensible.

The fitness room here was fairly large and had enough machines and weights to keep us interested for a quick workout, but I suggest skipping the treadmills and heading outside. Just across the street and to the left is a trail that follows the bay shoreline north for several miles, skirting several yacht clubs and going through some very nice parks.  There's even a fitness par course along the way. Highly recommended for a run, and a nice way to see the area.

I went to deliver some holiday wine bottles & the service was amazing.
It was so clean & beautifully designed. Everyone welcomed me in and I do really look forward to booking a night or two.

    Rally impressed.

Sonesta Coconut Grove Miami is under renovation and hotels.com doesn't have a clue about the jackhammer sounds that vibrate the room and bed and is so loud we had to leave the hotel each day until construction workers went home.  The room was so dirty for the first time I asked the maid to deliver cleaning products, grease-grime and utter lack of cleaning on the maids part.  The maid wanted to clean herself and in a few minutes the 10 inch rag was black and we just asked her to leave and didn't touch anything without using a Kleenex.  The check in desk said "plastering" was going on and my husband who is an architect said that was a quiet job.  We were misled by the hotel staff so we would not cancel our reservation.  Do not book through Hotels.com they have idea what is happening on site.  Do not trust the hotel staff to be direct about exactly what renovations are going on, if people do not book then they close down....which is exactly what they should do.  People lease rooms and the hotel will not let them out of their leases and they have to live with this construction for over a year.  Sadly our big vacation was disappointing at Sonesta because Hotels.com did not do their job.  People that rate this hotel favorably have no clue what is going on and I don't believe they spent much time on site.

We had a wonderful experience at the Sonesta!
Check in was so quick and easy. I had previously communicated with the front desk about merging two reservations and everything was taken care of when I got to check in.
The room was spacious and had a fully stocked kitchen. The "oceanview" was only viewable from a corner of the balcony, but the Miami skyline is still so beautiful to me so we didn't mind. The bathroom was spacious and the soups smelled like mango heaven. it's location made it great to go out at night and enjoy Coconut Grove. Tons of yummy restaurants near by!

The only issue I had was the valet. I think they are contracted by the hotel, but the wait is RIDICULOUS, it is hard to drive in and the service is abysmal. Not the hotels fault and the public parking next door made it easy to find parking at a great price.

"Have a good night" , said the seemingly cheerful front desk agent as she handed me the keys upon check in. I now know that her "smile" was more like as smirk and she must have been thinking what a poor sap I was for even booking a room at this so called hotel.
Let me explain; I arrived at the hotel at around 1 AM after driving almost for 4 hours and a meeting with a client, so needless to say, I was pretty tired.
The valet, who wanted $27 to park my car a few yards away, was extremely unhelpful in telling where I could self park the vehicle, casually pointing towards the front desk and saying "ask those guys over there". So at 1 AM, I unloaded my bag and then proceeded to take my car to the public garage next door.
My surprise came in the morning when I returned from my run, I was planning to do some work before heading out to my first business appointment. However, the noise was simply unbearable, jackhammers coming from all directions, even with my headphones on, I was completely unable to even respond to a couple of emails before deciding that this was enough.
But it was too late, the hotel already had my money, and judging by the reaction from the front desk lady when I told her why I was being forced to check out early and take my work to the nearest Starbucks, I was simply regarded as the idiot who fell in their trap and I could kiss my money good bye.
Her reply to my comment about heavy construction noise and the lack of advance notice, nevermind the fact that they were still charging full rates, was basically that it must have been my fault, because they have it "in the system".
In the system ? what system ? the solar system ? or perhaps her digestive system, because she simply pulled that response out of her derriere.
Stay classy Miami, stay classy Sonesta.
And, in the event that you happen to catch this review before they take your money .... stop ! and make other arrangements.

I spent my wedding weekend at this hotel, in January 2015. I also had 6 other rooms booked there by friends and family. I realize that's not a huge amount of business for them, but I was a little disappointed that the front desk staff was not super friendly and did nothing to make us feel overly welcomed or excited about being there. The Valet employees however, were very friendly and made us feel excited about being there and congratulated us on our marriage multiple times!
The room itself was larger than I had anticipated, with a full kitchen. Plenty of room for getting ready with all my girls!!
The view was absolutely breathtaking!! The pool deck was beautiful, the lobby was beautiful. Perfectly located in the heart of Coconut Grove!!
    Overall, a rather enjoyable stay!

At first I was going to give 4 stars but honestly... the more I thought about it, I couldn't really come up with a reason to not give them 5 stars.  The hotel has a GREAT location considering what is in the neighborhood.  You're somewhat off a side street so you're a bit off the madness that Coconut Grove can become but you're also a short walk from all the shops and restaurants it has to offer.  The staff was very friendly and accommodating always providing service with a smile, that was appreciated.  I woke up with a bit of a hangover (wedding the night before) so I was on a hunt for some powerade or Gatorade.  I ended up calling the front desk, they directed me to a floor that had a vending machine and I could not find it.  When I asked an employee where it was, he stopped what he was doing, walked me there, waited for me and walked me back.  Very nice touch, hats off to you maintenance man, I wish I would have gotten his name.  Shout out to the valet guys as well for being so accommodating.  I sent him to the car for my sunglasses and accidently sent him to my fiancé's car.  He laughed it off and went to get the glasses again with a smile.  Great job to this Sonesta team, you should all be proud of yourselves for making a regular hotel, quite spectacular because of you, the staff and your service!

My wife and I stayed here for a long weekend and loved this hotel. It is in the heart of the grove and the rooms were modern and clean. The pool was salt water and overlooked the ocean which was beautiful at sunset. The staff were friendly and courteous and didn't have a problem with any of our requests.

Stayed here for a conference for 4 nights. Where to begin...
No carpet in the room and windows and patio were closed up due to construction in our friend's room. Walls are thin and you could hear conversations in the room next door. Everything is outdated and old/dingy looking (maybe the reason for the construction!)
Internet service didn't work at all - which was a huge problem since there was a business conference going on. When we called to ask about it, the front desk confirmed wifi was out throughout the entire building then transferred us to their internet service provider! Apparently we needed to fix it for the entire hotel.
Room service was awful. Not even edible. The bread on the Cuban sandwich was stale and hard as a rock.
Pool area is nice and has great views, but if you want something to drink, you need to go into the bar to order.
Hotel is WAY overpriced. Coconut Grove is a nice area and there are some good restaurants in walking distance, but would definitely stay somewhere else.

We were celebrating our 20th Wedding Anniversary on 4/25/2015. I had a great deal thanks to Mrs. Elizabeth Dubon, who found us a great price for a deluxe room with bay view in an upper floor.
Sonesta Hotel in Coconut Grove has become our favorite hotel.

The gym offers anything you need and a great view over the bay. The pool is great, with view over the Grove and a great service. One of the most relaxing places in Miami.

The Panorama Restaurant is okay. The bar closes kind of early (for Miami) but it's Miami, who's staying in the hotel anyway?

Sonesta's best part is the service and the location. While I never needed anything big, because everything is there, available and well prepared for the guests, the staff at the lobby is always courteous and if you need something they are eager to help.

The location is the best: in the heart of Coconut Grove, it means that if you want to take the car you can be in South Beach in 30 minutes, in any Coral Gables restaurant in 15-20 at most, in downtown Miami in another 20 minutes max, in South Miami in 15 minutes but if you are tired and want to take it easy, like we did one night, you can just walk and go to any of the places in the Grove, like the next door Peacock, like Jaguar, the recently opened La Strada (it's loud but it is real Italian) or you can just stroll to chill at Vinos in the Grove for a glass or two of good wine and some cheese.

The lobby is clean, modern looking, I always say to my wife we don't pay enough attention to it, because we are always on the move in Miami. Rooms are spacious, well cared for and clean. This is a winner. And you can't beat the location that allows to chill, relax and have a quiet time if you wish or to be in the middle of Miami action in 20 minutes.

I recommend that people target this hotel especially in summer, when they offer some discounts due to the low season: relaxing in the pool overlooking the grove is just what you need and deserve: a break that - in the modern lifestyle - we rarely get.

Sonesta in Coconut Grove is a winner in my book, because it is clean, the staff is nice and especially for myself, as I am often stressed out from my sale job, it's a great place to chill, but still very close to everything if you want to have a nice dinner or enjoy some cocktails and the Miami nightlife.

Great staff. Free upgrade. Awesome view.

I'm in Miami for a little vacation and needed to add a room for a night at the last minute. My friend and I used trip advisor to book this room. It was a decent price, $127 I believe. When we got to the front desk we just simply asked if we could get an upgrade on our room, and wouldn't you know they gave it to us! They were super friendly and gave us a few suggestions on local places to eat.

The rooms have a microwave. Two burners  and a mini fridge! I would stay here again for sure.

    Ps. They have amazing candles!
