I'm staying here on a business trip- so I can't comment on the price- but the rooms are really lush and comfy, the staff is friendly and nice and the overall experience a nice one.  The only 4 stars is the BS of having to pay to use the gym- that really threw me for a loop and the overall higher price that you have to pay for a cup of yogurt.  I guess that is just how it is in these kinds of areas.  Overall though- I would def. recommend the hardrock- and it's a quick walk to the parks!

Just stayed here for 2 nights over the weekend and had a blast! The staff was great, rooms were nice (shower was unbelievable!), and the location can't be beat! The pool scene was awesome as well, although it was a little difficult find a good place to lay in the sun because of the abundance of palm trees shading the area. The only annoying thing was that there were high school cheerleaders & dancers EVERYWHERE (there for a competition at Universal), so be wary of this time of year if immature teenage girls aren't exactly who you like to be surrounded with. I felt bad for all the pool waitresses running back and forth for virgin daqari's all day long. Other than that, it was a delightful experience!

Great spot to stay while in Orlando. Rooms are a decent size, price was reasonable, pool area is fun. Staff is friendly and attentive. Food is ok but a little on the pricey side as you might expect. There is a Palm restaurant onsite as well.  The water shuttle to Universal is super convenient and a no stress way to get to the park. Really enjoyed my stay here.

This place gets 5 stars, just for the staff alone! Incredibly friendly, attentive, and polite.  The room was a decent size; plush, comfortable and  with the hard rock memorabilia in each room.  The pool is awesome too.   They show movies poolside at least once a week. City walk is either a short walk, or a pleasant boat ride away.  If you're being the tourist and going to the parks, I would definitely recommend this place to stay.

It's been nearly a month since I was here and I'm STILL trying to get someone from accounting to call me regarding my bill - I've left 8 messages so far. I've been told that their billing department doesn't actually answer the phone when you call. The only thing you can do is leave a message and they will call you back. Well, I've left 8 w/o 1 call back. All they keep doing is re-emailing me the same, INCORRECT bill. I know that I should have checked the bill more carefully before leaving the hotel, but I was running very late for my flight. I will not pay $6 for using the intercom to tell them that I was stuck in the self-park area because my room card didn't work (yes, they actually charged for that!) Nor will I pay for internet service that didn't work at all (call to reception 2 days in a row got a "yes, we've been getting calls like that all day"). This place is unbelievable and the horrible level of service leaves such a bad taste - never again!

Overall a good experience, but I was there on business and the staff's attitude was a little too laid back for my liking.

The room was nice, but I was expecting a better decor.  The stark white walls weren't very inviting.  Great location!

Here's some highlights from a recent visit.

I really wanted club level pool view and even called hotel just prior to stay.  They mentioned that the room would be available, but to arrive early so it wouldn't be assigned to anyone else just in case.  With a 1:30 arrival I learned that the room was never really assigned to me and would never be available.  Got a 6th floor room instead with club entry (good, but not quite the same).

Rooms are relatively standard fare for Orlando parks.  Parking is $15/day plus tax - this should be free, especially for club level rack rates.

Anyway, pool is very shallow.  I read all about the underwater speakers and was disappointed that they play so quiet.  These are hardly worth the advertising.

Club lounge is very small holding 50-60 at most.  Chairs are cheap plastic.  Food servers looking for tips.  Again, for club level I'm paying for this and it is expected.

Neighbor room was fighting out in hallway, not good.

Lastly, no bill under the door.  Guess they haven't heard of this concept yet.  Had to stop by front desk and sign out.

All in all, I was expecting more.  I didn't feel the vibe upon entry and never really found it.  Advice - stay at Portofino club level instead (they have much better atmosphere, larger lounge, better food/wine/etc.).

Super expensive but well worth it for the room key. Room keys allow you to skip the lines in both Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure. Great location to both parks (maybe 5-10 minute walk). Pool is huge but very shallow, only 3-4 feet. Overall, a great place to stay.

Great Hotel for all ages.  The linens in the room are always crisp and clean. Pool area is always happening and the loud rock music they play in the lobby is just fun.  You can't beat the location..5 minute walk to the park.  The kitchen restaurant by the pool area is surprisingly good.

we stayed at the hotel to be near Universal's Islands of adventure theme park and take advantage of the extra hour to spend at the park.

Things we liked
walking distance to universals theme parks
free boat/ferry  rides to the them parks
Beautiful ambience & decor of the hotel and rooms all neat and tidy
an extra hour at the theme park
Outstanding service - all staff were experts and nothing was too much trouble
Late check out was no problem
squirrel spotting was fun for us as we don't have them back in Australia

only drawback - our room was across from the ice machine room which made quite a bit of noise
I would definitely stay again but in a different room.

Solid Hotel, and clearly meant for families because its based in Orlando. Doesnt have the same edge as other Hard Rock Hotels in other cities but still a solid venue and good pools.

This is your hotel if you love music history and appreciate attentive staff.  The rooms are modern and have cool pictures of famous musicians.  The bathroom was clean, the beds were comfortable, and the hotel was easy to get around in.

The water taxi makes it easy to get to Riverwalk, but the walk over is not long so do it at least once.  Pool area is fun and they are always playing music.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here.

Pros: The calamari at the hotel restuarant is outstanding, walking access into Universal Studios Parks, pool is top notch with "dive in movies" for the kids, very clean hotel with lots of staff that were helpful.

Cons: Very small rooms, pricey, parking lot always seemed full.

A great hotel that is a blast to hang in. Check out the costumes on the walls of real rock stars.

I recently stayed in this hotel to escape the cold of Chicago.

This is an amazing hotel from start to finish; definitely one of the best ones to stay in.  We stayed on the club floor, which had its very own private lounge which served food all day long.  It even distributed free alcohol during happy hour.

-AMAZING housekeeping.  Not only would they clean my room multiple times per day, but they also would add their own unique touch, such as organizing our toiletries and leaving my gfs stuffed animals at the head of the bed.  She was so impressed.
-Incredible pool.  It is very large and music plays underwater.  It is surrounded by white sand on one side and even has a slide.
-Two hot tubs.  One for everyone and a more private one just for adults.
-Variety of dining choices.
-PERFECTLY manicured plants and trees.
-Free boat service to other Universal hotels and CityWalk.  This can be romantic in the evenings.
-Hotel key can be used as an express ticket at Universal theme parks to get to the front of lines.  A++ idea.

-We arrived in the early afternoon and our room wasn't ready.  Although the staff said that they would place a rush on the room, it wasn't ready until the normal check-in time.  Somewhat annoying.
-Lots of kids.  Much more than I would expect for a hotel like this.

Overall, we were both extremely impressed with the place and I would definitely recommend staying there.

Waaaay OVERPRICED.  For the almost $500!! I paid for one night, I was expecting luxury, and got a room similar to a Hampton Inn, which I would have rather stayed/saved at.  The 'deluxe' queen had a poor layout (I was expecting a separate area with the couch vs one big open room), and the walls and several areas of the room were bare and boring.  The public areas were shut down by 11pm, which after a show at the Hard Rock Live was disappointing. Thought this was a 'Rock n Roll' Hotel?!

The only things I liked about this hotel was the fact that music is playing everywhere, the rock n roll memorabilia, and the slide at the pool was fun.  But the room-disappointing for the expensive price.

I thought this place was gonna "rock". I was going to a concert at the Hard Rock Live inside the Universal property so why not stay at the Hotel as well. The location was great the hotel was okay, but the rooms were garbage. Felt like a budget hotel which is fine. Fine except that it was $350 a night. Not a budget at all. Plus my room was very damp. I will not be back.

It's expensive, but hey look where you are... There are some perks though. For one your room key is a fast pass... That made going through lines at the universal parks almost painless. There was a ride me and my brother rode, while at the same time a family entered the line at the same time. We rode the ride 3 times and that family was still waiting in line... #2 perk they comp you the party pass for the city walk... That was nice not having to pay a cover for each of the many clubs there. #3 they open the new Harry potter part of islands of adventure at 0700 for hotel guests. A whole hour before the commoners lol are aloud in haha. It let us ride the forbidden journey 3 times before 8am. Unfortunately that's the only ride on island of adventure your fast pass doesn't work... But it still makes up for it with all the other rides.

Great property and perfect location.  This was our second time staying at this hotel which is conveniently located on the Universal property and is a quick walk to the theme parks.  Our housekeeper was pleasant and our room was well appointed and clean.  The beds were cozy.  We stayed on the Club Floor (7th Floor) which provides continental breakfast, snacks, drinks and hors d'oeuvre throughout certain times of the day.  There is a nice gym which is included if you stay on this floor and has steam and sauna.  The pool was beautiful and well staffed.  The property also has 2 restaurants, The Palm and The Kitchen which are great.  An ice cream parlor and The Velvet Lounge.  All in all this hotel has everything you need and is very nice.

Great hotel.  Almost everything was great.  We stayed in a suite on the Club level, worth it because there is continental breakfast every morning as well as snacks and drinks throughout most of the day.  The room was good but the water pressure in the bathroom was weak.  Service calls were promptly addressed.  The public areas of the hotel are nice.  First class.  Smallish health club but good array of machines.  Pool is nice.  Rock music is great.  Memorabilia everywhere - great!   Bell services -great.  The location is very convenient to Universal/IOA/Citywalk.

It's pricey but worth it because the fast passes are included and you can get into Harry Potter 1 hour before the park opens.

95 degree weather in Orlando, I was ready to just be hot and miserable.  But Universal Orlando and the Hard Rock made the vacation and visit worthwhile.  We have teen kids and  they demand a more adult environment than Disney.  Hard Rock delivers with contemporary rooms, themes, and environment.  Room service was quick and friendly.  Staff says hello in the halls (we love it when employees do this).  We stayed on the Club Level at the hotel giving us access to morning, snacks, and drinks.  A bit over crowded but the staff was focused on delivering for all the guests.  The hotel should probably make it more exclusive instead of inclusive.  When you think Club Floor you don't normally experience a long wait to get a drink or some snacks.

We rented a pool side cabana and loved it.  Fan, TV, water, soda, fridge.  Right near the pool.  The kids loved this best.  You could lay in the sun, inside the cabana, etc.  They felt very Hollywood.

This is a great hotel, for tourists or for a local getaway. the layout is amazing, a built up parking area so you walk in on the second level to the lobby and go down from there. This is amazing for Florida, where everything else is flat. The pool is beautiful, as are all the public areas. If you just want to go for drinks, the bar folks will give you parking validation. Easy water taxi to City Walk and Universal. Your room key gets you express pass access to universal. Just a fun, fun place.

Great property!  Fun atmosphere.  Really cool rooms.  Probably not the best place to go if you have young kids, but I'm sure kids 8 or above would enjoy it.  It's also a great place to go if you don't have kids(like me).  It's a very nice 5 minute walk from the property to Universal studios.

After reading a lot of reviews mine is pretty similar, however my biggest problem and reason for such a low rating were the gentlemen 'assisting' with your car and luggage. As soon as we pulled up a guy was opening our car and it wasn't even in park. As my husband and I were digging for the reservation papers he kept rambling on his 'speech' which we didn't hear and felt overwhelmed. My husband said he was going to check in and the guy demanded the keys. Uh no you don't need the keys, we're going to be parked for 5 mins, so that was odd?! Then he opened our trunk and we had to tell him 4 times to stop that we didn't want his help because not all of the luggage was coming upstairs, and we had several souvenir glass items wrapped in boxes. Finally after my husband had to raise his voice, the guy got mad at US and walked away! Later when we rolled the cart over to load our luggage he came over and told us that only he was allowed to push it. So we abandoned that.  Later that night after walking back from dinner at CityWalk we passed him and another car-guy counting their cash tips in front of people! I work in the Conference Service industry and their job in the customer care cycle is first impressions and welcoming. They were not hitting the mark, and instead put a sour taste in our mouth for the entire hotel experience. The hotel only had a couple cons that I mention below and the pros definitely outweighed them, except these guys. The Hotel manager needs to reconsider their roles and ATTITUDE. Their role is to do great customer service because it is the right thing to do...not for tangible rewards aka tips.  Their job becomes solely driven then by greed and money.

- wifi not included and expensive
- on-site parking is expensive (self-parking is $18/day)
- our outside food was thrown away by housekeeping (granola, cookies)
- towels were rough and 3 of ours had yellow/brown stains
- on-site restaurants were overpriced and not too impressed with quality - for the money we opted to dine at city walk

- check in and check out was quick
- bonus fast passes and early admission to Universal parks
- very close to universal and can easily walk, or have water taxi options
- bedding was comfy
- daily housekeeping
- replaced soaps daily and left the previous days too so didn't have one bottle for entire stay
- pool area was big and absolutely beautiful (liked the sand portions and adult-only hot tubs)

I'm a local, and I love "getting away" to this hotel. It's just so welcoming. My husband and I enjoyed being kids again playing guitar hero in the downstairs foyer, sliding down their water slide, jamming to the music...everywhere!

They have comfortable beds and a nice welcome CD when you check in as a momento from your visit.

Also, the skipping ahead of the lines with your hotel key card was pretty cool too!

Cool rock and roll memorabilia everywhere in the lobby and the bar ("Velvet")...Elton John's glasses, Madonna's concert outfit, guitars, gold records, etc.  Really friendly and helpful staff at the front staff, luggage services and at the business center.  Cool musician quotes written everywhere too...on the walls, the napkins, the little notepads by the phone, etc.

The individual rooms are surprising beige for a rock and roll hotel.  I thought there would at least be purple carpets or leopard armchairs or something...more like the lobby or bar area.  Though the Beatles photos on the wall were great- I love the Beatles.  But otherwise, the rooms are just like a really plain, low-grade Sheraton or Hilton.

Pounding music in the lobby is great when going to the bar at night but not at 8am when heading toward a meeting, or trying to fit in a conference call outside the meeting rooms.  Also weird- huge U-shaped leopard patterned seating lounge area in the bathroom off the lobby...what could this be used for?  I don't think I'm rock and roll enough to know.

The restaurant "The Kitchen" is awful...sooooo slow that I almost missed my meeting and I had to eventually take my food to go.  I ordered a caesar salad...how long could that have taken?  40 minutes.

Really nice grounds and a very short stroll to Universal Studios and Citywalk.  The room key card can be used as the front-of-line express lane for the rides.  I was here for work and the resort arranged a fun corporate team scavenger hunt throughout the theme park.  Meeting space and the lobby dining area was flawless and perfect for our use.

Other than the hiccup with The Kitchen restaurant, everything else went without a hitch.  I prefer the Royal Pacific polynesian vibe more when I vacation so if I came back, I would go there instead.

Just came back from a 4 night stay here with the family. Everyone loved it. The pool has a neat waterslide that kept the kids happy and the poolside live music kept the parents happy. Plenty to see and do.

Great location just 5 minute walk to the theme parks. We took the boat once but found it easier to just walk.

Dinner one night at the Kitchen was pleasant especially b/c both Homer and Bart came by the table (twice each) to say hi.

Overall, premium price but well worth it to be close to the parks and take  an easy mid day swim break to recharge our batteries.

The Hard Rock Hotel has its pros and cons.  I liked the room and it was clean. Free in room coffee with the "K" cup was nice also. It is close to Universal and I enjoyed getting into the parks an hour before the regular park guests. The check in was fast and my family and I loved the pool area. Where the hotel falls short is the "be treated like a rock star" motto.  It never happened.  The bell hops must have been on break so we signed in and parked the car in the lot we were told to then we lugged our bags up several steep stare cases to get to our room. By the time we were done I was dead and did not enjoy our first day at the park. We had the same problem when we left. If you want to stay at a hotel this is a nice one but don't buy into the experience. It was just a hotel to sleep in between the fun filled days going to Universal.

Rooms are FOUL. We stayed "Club Level" - top price, and I was very disappointed when we walked into our damp little room. It really is all about location I suppose. I would not recmmend this place to anyone.

On a good note, the staff was very friendly and helpful.

We stayed for 1 night - if I stayed any longer I would've asked to switch rooms, although I don't think any other room would've been significantly better.

My friends and i came here after enjoying the magical wizarding world of harry potter all day to have a drink and smoke some hookah. They have an awesome martini list if you're into that kind of thing (I'm into that kind of thing) ranging from about $11-15 each. All of the martinis i had were delicious...not that i had that many. And the hookah was very fun, $25 and then $15 for an additional puck thing. The highlight was probably our server, her name was Robin and she was great. Very willing to help and talk to you, 5 stars for Robin!

I only wish Velvet Bar or any bar in Orlando stayed open until 4.

Hard Rock has a great location walking distance from CityWalk, Universal and Islands or if your not able to walk willing or not you can take the water taxi or bike taxi. Nice ammenities the pool has a slide for kids and bar for adults, a weight room, the Italian restaurant has pretty good pizza and I can't forget there is a Hard Rock store located in the lobby area. One thing I love about almost all Hard Rock's they really do live by their motto of "love all serve all" possibly best customer service I have ever had to deal with.

The rooms have large comfortable beds and a dock for your mp3 player, flat screen tv and the bathrooms are large and very clean. I hope you enjoy your stay as much as I have here and if you're not staying here just come by and check it out the friendly staff I'm sure will be more then happy to answer any of your questions.

I'm typing this in the lobby of the hotel!

My family is asleep and I made myself an "awesome" cup of coffee and found a nice cozy spot on one of the sofas in the lobby. All while listening to The Stones, ELO and other great rock music.

Whenever we come to Universal, it just makes sense to stay at one of the Universal hotels. You get front of line guest status, that alone just makes everything more enjoyable.

Now for the reviews:
Lobby - Fa-king awesome! You get to lounge like a rock star with free wi-fi and cool music.

Rooms- Nice clean rooms, they make the beds with some snap to them! Everything is nice and clean. Great free coffee selections. Don't drink the bottled water! Why do ask? Because the Big Fiji water cost $7 bucks!

Restaurants - Here is where I want to take off a few stars. very expensive. I'd rather eat at City Walk.

Pool- Again, I want to take off a star. Yeah, movie night is cool. But seriously, the deepest part is under 4 feet ? WTF People?

Dogs - Yes, you can bring your dog here! I am a dog nut and I would love to bring the poochies here but, I'm not sure they would travel well.

*Bonus - this hotel is so hip they give you free iTunes downloads. I had to fight to the death with my teenager for thoses mamasitas!

I want to take off a star but the hotel is so friggin cool that I give it 5 stars from me,  BillySalts seal of approval.

Rock on!

I would really go to 3-1/2 stars if possible and I rounded down because the negatives, while pretty minor, are so annoying that they keep me from rounding up to a 4 star review. First the positives. Beautiful property with great music and decor throughout. Well maintained rooms, comfy beds and a great housekeeping staff. Friendly, helpful staff. Walked us through all the theme park perks. Decent food. The water taxis are a great way to get back and forth to the parks and they also have rickshaw service, which is really nice. Or you can just walk over to the parks in a lovely tree covered walkway. Really beautiful. The pool is also very nice and we grabbed a drink one night at the beach club and also hit the pool on our last day there. Very nice.
Now, you may be thinking "Why is this just a 3 start review if you love all that stuff." The reasons are as follows. Little nagging things and expenses that really take the whole experience down a notch. First about the room. The doorknobs are nearly impossible to open. Once the green light goes on to enter you have to put in a major effort to open the door. I heard others struggling so I know it wasn't isolated. Shower head was awful, spraying all over. Now my major issues. The expense. $4 for a croissant? Drinks $9 or $10 for a beer or glass of wine? They do give you free Keurig (2 a day) but charge if you want a microwave or fridge. And every fleabag in the country now offers free wifi. But not here, nope. That's pretty inexcusable. And finally $18 a day to park at a hotel I am staying at?!? PLUS TAX??!!!  That is something I have never heard of. At check out they said I had a $30 charge to the mini bar, which I never opened. Glad I called to ask before leaving. But they did take the charge off.
So, overall a pretty positive experience. The things that are wrong should be fixed and this place would be a perfect destination. If you go, you will enjoy the place and the theme park perks. Just watch your wallet and you'll be OK. Oh, and enjoy the Butterbeer, it's awesome.
We were there from May 1 thru May 6, 2013.

We stayed at HRH for a convention for 2 days. From our initial contact , the staff was great. Easy check in at front desk . The rooms ( garden facing) were clean, quiet, modern and well maintained. All the usual amenities. The bed was comfortable , and the CD player in the room was a nice touch. All the staff we came across had a smile and greeted us warmly all the time. We had grab and go breakfast at Emack and Bolios which was good. The best advantage includes the express pass and early entry to WWOHP which made the stay an excellent choice. We had lunch at the kitchen and drinks at the poolside bar once and the service was spot on . Best was the checkout , the front desk was great and the valet gave us a free ride next door to portofino where we planned to stay for the next 2 days. I would definitely stay here again and recommend to others.

I have been to Disney World several times before and I was kind of bored with it so when hubby had a conference in Orlando again we chose the Hard Rock because it was close to Universal and because it just looked fun! What a great place.. not fancy schmancy but location is everything. 5 min from Universal.. take the free water taxi.. what a deal! I'm not much into thrill rides so haven't done the Harry Potter ride but with the express pass given to hotel guests I guess that makes the stay worth while ( if you're going to do the ride). The hotel is fun.. had some glitches with room service ( as in.. they forgot our breakfast so we missed eating!) and the little coffee store seems a bit short handed. The breakfast buffet in The Kitchen is a whopping 19$ and  not really outstanding. The happy Hour Bloody Mary there was still 7$. haven't been to the beach pool area yet so cant comment on that. The Velvet Lounge is great. watch for little geckos skittering about the sidewalk during the day. They are cute. Once you notice them you will see them everywhere! Love the fact that rock music is playing everywhere all the time.. would I stay here again? YOU BET!

Warning, Hard Rock Hotel likes to double charge your credit card. I attended wedding, the hotel room was billed to the master account. Yet, my card on file was also billed for the cost of the room. After notifying the hotel, it was removed only to be recharged again, 3 days later. This time, it will be a charge-back dispute with the card company.

Beyond that, the hotel room was clean, but dated.
The pool area is nice, and it's close to Universal.. but that's about it.

Stayed here a while back.  Its a great hotel. Really good room rates and also a short walk to both Universal Studio parks which is good.  The best thing about the hotel is their chocolate milkshakes they serve.  Definitely try a milkshake when staying there. Best milkshake I've had.

Our stay at the Hard Rock Hotel was interesting.

Close to Universal Theme Parks
Rooms were nice with lots of space
Free Express Passes
Pool area was very nice

Room keys NEVER worked. Had to be redone multiple times, and still some of them never worked. Very frustrating!
They tried to put us in a room that smelled like they had to disinfect for some reason. They were trying not to let us in the room. I think they were hoping the smell would subside. It didn't. You needed a gas mask to walk in that room. We called to the front desk to see about switching to a different room. Talked to 2 different people who couldn't provide an answer. We finally gave up and went to talk to someone in person. That person was totally clueless so we got another lady who finally agreed to put us in another room.
When we left our bags with them for the day before we were let into our room the guy dropped a backpack on a tile floor that had a laptop in it.
Our room wasn't ready at the check in time. We had to wait an extra three hours before our room was ready.
The shower curtain and rod fell down and when we called Star Service we were put on hold for 20 minutes. We finally hung up and had to go back to the front desk and talk to someone in person. The complete lack of any kind of customer service was disappointing.

We love this Hotel. When we arrived Ronnie James Dio's "Rainbow in the dark " was blasting throughout the lobby. This made me very happy and even got some great air guitar from my twin 12 year old boys even though I'm fairly sure they are not familiar with Ronnie's work.  The hotel is nice, the staff are happy and friendly. The place is clean, we'll maintained and for the music buff there are memories to be had around every corner. We stayed on the club level, which I highly recommend, it has a rock royally lounge that is open several times a day. They serve breakfast in the morning complete with mimosas, horderves nightly for a couple of hours. A variety of different things each night, also a selection of beer and wine are complimentary at the open bar. Later in the night they serve churros and cookies. Everything is expensive, but worth it. Not a bad meal to be had, no bad service to be found. We left our do not disturb sign on our door all day one day and the housekeeping staff left us a message at the front desk asking us if we needed anything. There are too many towels, too much soap and other toiletries in the bathroom. Two robes, an umbrella. Everything you could need is there. And get this, they offer complimentary guitar use. That's right, you can order from a menu of lead or bass guitars(all fender) and they will deliver to your room with a headphone amp. And... There are guitar lessons on the TV 24 hours a day if you so choose to spend your time that way. You can walk from the Hard Rock Hotel to universal, where as the other hotels need a water taxi. There are also rickshaws waiting if you don't feel like waking, but it's not far. The pool and hotel are so nice, it seems like a sacrifice when you leave to see the theme parks, but we did it anyway. If any of you think this is not a family hotel , you are Wrong!!! And if your family is juuuuuust a bit unique, then you are even more welcome at this super fantastic hotel. Six thumbs up from us wanna be rock stars...

This is our favorite Universal hotel. The other two are beautiful, don't get me wrong, but this one seemed to suit us better. We ate at the Kitchen one of our nights. I ate the Tuna; some of the best Ahi Tuna I have eaten. We loved the pretzel bread, yum. We enjoyed the pool and slide. The pool bar was not so bad either.  ;)
The room was nice some of the decor was very appealing. The staff was, for us, extremely attentive and welcoming. Anything we asked for they provided immediately. We liked the free drinks in the lobby great idea for guests checking in. We came up for Halloween Horror Nights. (Not bad, definitely not one of their best, but better than last year). We will stay here again the next time we are up. It is just too convenient not to stay on property.

We stayed at the Hard Rock two nights. It was a very pleasant stay. The staff was super friendly which made me feel happy the entire time. Beds were comfortable and clean. We stayed in the Club 7, which included breakfast, snacks, and happy hour during the day.  Fun ambiance and conveniently located near universal Orlando. There were free ferries taking you to and from the entrance of the parks which was very helpful especially at the end of the day.

I also loved the random song lyrics displayed.

Overpriced, gimmicky, dingy rooms, worn furniture, worn bed coverings, musty smell, dirty hallways, obnoxious workers at the front desk trying way too hard to be cool, and that was my observation within the first half hour I was there.

Now the worst part: Upon checking in, I noticed the bed in my room had dry blood stains and what appeared to be dead bed bugs in the creases (I always check before settling in).  I complained to management who gave me a hard time (they denied it at first), until they offered to switch rooms.  I demanded a refund instead, for which they gave me even a harder time.

A crap hotel charging high-end luxury prices.

I personally prefer going to the portifino due to the fact that the hard rock is very dirty on weekends with large crowds and sometimes the workers don't seem to into their jobs so it seems they don't care.  The unlimited quick q is very good for busy days or else you may be waiting in longer lines than the regular lines.  Also the only popular ride it doesn't work for is Harry Potter (the castle one).  It even applies to some shows.  The whole deal with hearing music under the pool wasn't executed well the only way to hear it even enough for it to be good is to put your ear up to the speaker. The water slide is definitely fun but as alway at this hotel it has a huge crowd (normally) and then you are freezing.

Some good family programs do exist but I wouldn't suggest dropping your child off thee while you go to the park you should bring your child along if you go to the park.  The walking distance is a good 5 minute walk into the park or take a water taxi right out your hotel.  The work out room facilities does cost money. 10 dollars for a day!!!  Not that good for family but ok for certain people if you like hard rock hotels you will like this but it is by far he worst on universal property

Its a great location if you are planning to roam around city walk or any of the Universal Parks. Their bathroom could of been more cleaner, and their mirror about the sink definitely needs a good cleaning.

I was brushing my teeth to grungy stuff stuck between the grooves of the frame of the mirror. Not a pretty site when you first wake up. Makes you feel everything around you is dirty too.

They do have a nice keurig coffee machine for you to brew you up some coffee, tea or hot chocolate.

I want to start off by saying this is a beautiful hotel. It has a fun atmosphere and definitely owns up to the Rock and Roll vibe. Unfortunately our experience there was extremely disappointing.

As the Maid of Honor for my best friend, I thought it would be a fun weekend to travel to Orlando. I called the Hard Rock and they assured me that their hotel was perfect for a Bachelorette party and they would love to host us.

We showed up to the first disaster of the room keys. The front desk girl ended up printing our room keys out 3 times before getting it right. This took a good 45 minutes. We then went to the rooms to find out that one set did not work. We then had to go back as find out how to fix that.

We got ready for dinner that night and went to Kitchen, the restaurant within the Hard Rock. It was just alright. The food was not worth the price.

Later that night, we went back to the room for some drinks before going out. We put on some music and were having a good time until security came telling us we were being too loud and we would be kicked out of the hotel if we continued. They told us we had families and children around us and at 10:30 we had to be quiet.

The hotel had led me to believe this was a more "adult" hotel than the other surrounding ones. They were well aware that we were a bachelorette party coming to stay with them and booked our block of rooms around families and young children.

At the end of the weekend I was quite upset with our stay. If they had been up front about what kind of hotel they were we would've found somewhere else.

They get a star for the actual location and building of the hotel and one star for one great staffer who helped bring us chairs and took some pictures with us. Other than that, the thousands of dollars our group spent there this weekend was not warranted in the least.

If you are part of a big group, this is not the place for you, although they will probably tell you it is.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay here but I do think that the level of service was lower than what I expected considering the high room rates.  None of the staff seemed particularly friendly or helpful. Checking in was quite an ordeal because they didn't have our room ready even though it was about 7 at night.  We ended up having to check in and then move to a different room the next day.  Which was particularly weird because both rooms were on the same floor and were the same size with king beds.  I think the first one was a nicer view than what we paid for but I don't know why they couldn't just let us stay there the whole time instead of having to go thru the hassle of changing rooms since it was their mistake not having the correct room ready for us.

The restaurants and bar here are nothing that exciting. The best part of the resort was the swimming pool. They had a nice pool area with a sandy beach and plenty of chairs and umbrellas. There was a bar and servers walked around to take food and drink orders starting at 11am. I also liked the fact that they had an adults only jaccuzzi and there were life guards on duty to keep the kids going down the water slide from getting too rowdy.  The rest of the property is pretty much just a basic hotel, not really a resort.  There is no spa and the workout room is pretty small.  The decor in the lobby looks like it has been updated but in the room floor hallways it was dated and a little worn.  We were on the club level so it was nice having the daily breakfast, snacks and happy hour but overall it was not really worth the extra money. The area was usually a mess and even though there was supposed to be a dedicated concierge, the people who were there in the lounge were pretty clueless.  The other annoying thing was that one of the days they did not come and clean our room until the late afternoon when we were returning back from the theme park and wanted to shower and get ready for dinner. I think it is just a large property with a lot of people staying there and they don't really have the staff to keep up.

Also, the main perk for staying on property is that you get to go thru the express lines at the theme parks but the machines to print out the easy pass at the hotel were not working three out of the four days we were there. We were told by the hotel staff that we could just show them our room key but at the park they told us that we needed to have the paper tickets. There were machines to print the tickets at the park as well but those wouldn't read our room key.  What a pain!

You can probably find cheaper hotels in the area that are just as nice but it was convenient to be so close to the parks and to be able to take the water taxis every day. I would stay here again if it wasn't so expensive.

I am checking out today (11-13-13) and have been here for three days. I must say that everything I have run into has been wonderful. From the service, Stephen at the concierge , all the way to the food. I ended up eating at "The Kitchen" twice, just for convenience. Both times the service there was great. I attempted to eat at the Palm, but was unfortunately not feeling well at the time. However my family did and they informed me that everything was awesome. I will certainly return here, hopefully sooner then later. The only issue I had was an over sweetened mojito at the pool bar. Which was a $10 mojito that I ended up tossing. Just because they had closed by the time I was able to really taste it. I have no doubt they would have made me a new one.

Vacationed in Orlando for 8 nights in September 2010.  We chose to stay at the Hard Rock hotel for the first half of the trip so that we could have the privilege of skipping the lines at IOA and Universal.

We booked a standard room. Plenty of space, clean, modern room but small bathroom. The hallway to our room was SO long. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

The pool is awesome! I could spend an entire day relaxing there. But the best part about tge hotel is the LOCATION! Literally a 5 minute walk to Universal. Plus the Express Line Pass is worth the higher priced stay than the offside hotels nearby. We rode rides over and over and over all before lunch in one day. Next time we will just stay 2 nights here and the rest at Disney.

We ate a breakfast and lunch at Kitchen. Breakfast buffet was large but nor worth the price to us. BUT the lunch was fabulous! Awesome sandwiches. The best lunch if our trip!

I highly reccomend this hotel if you plan to go to both the parks.... It's worth the cost!

So I started this review on 2/16 and am just now finishing it up 2 months later! I know I know, terrible Yelper. So this is a review for a stay in Orlando the week of Feb. 9th to 16th.  Slept in the most comfortable bed ever on the Rock Royalty level! Of the people who work in the clubhouse of Rock Royalty, Steeven (with two e's) was by far the most polite and helpful. They were all great but if you need anything, seek him out for sure. The snacks and cocktail hour, although the offerings were very basic, it was still enjoyable and complimentary with your stay on that level.  I felt the shower was a bit on the small side. I was okay with it but would prefer a bit bigger but my husband was annoyed since we paid extra for that level and he likes roomy showers because he is a larger size and stature. One of my favorite features of the room was the enormous vanity sink area outside of the restroom! This enabled me to use the sink and counter and giant mirror while still allowing my husband to use the restroom's toilet, shower, and additional hand washing sink unhampered with my morning girl necessities. The hand washing sink also had a mirror, so he could shave there too. This is great for harmony in the morning or before going out in the evening! The in room Keurig was a nice touch but the selection of coffee was terrible, too weak in strength for my taste. Terrible terrible tasting mouthwash, stay away at all costs! The other toiletry products were not very good quality products either, but I'm a licensed Esthetician, so I probably have higher standards. All in all, a pretty positive experience despite any drawbacks and I'd stay there again if I were back.

Awesome. Friendly staff...
Our club room was not ready and we had pets with us.  They cared for the pets in another hotel room....while they sent  us with the kids to the park. When we returned...our dog and cat were in the new room...had been well taken care of and were happy.  We love these guys. A sweet treat was waiting for the kids too.

4. Room was bottom floor and landscaping occurs way too early
5. Price

My husband and I stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel for four nights from January 20, 2013 to the 24th. We chose this hotel for two reasons:

1. The purpose of our trip was to go to Universal Orlando. We wanted a hotel that was within walking distance to the parks.
2. We had stayed at the Hard Rock resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic last year and were impressed with the quality and details of the hotel.

As for our experience with the theme parks, I'm very happy with the benefits from the hotel. We had no problems getting the express tickets and these tickets made our days at the parks much more enjoyable. The hotel quoted a walk of around 10 minutes from the hotel to the parks, but it was actually closer to 7 minutes. When we got soaked, unexpectedly, on one ride, it was convenient to be able to walk back to our room to change.

As for the quality of the hotel itself, I found myself disappointed. The rooms seemed dated and they were quite bland. At their hotel in Punta Cana, there were some details that added to the overall effect of the hotel, such as embroidered guitars on the pillow cases. In Orlando, there were no details like this so, other than the standard literature on the hotel room desk, it could have been any generic hotel room.

Other reviews have noted that they charge for everything extra and this is true. Internet is advertised as $10/day. When purchasing the internet, I was offered higher quality internet for $15/day. Because I knew that I would not be in the room much, I chose the lower amount. For the entire four days, though, popups frequently appeared trying to upsell me to the higher package. The connection was also slow and dropped often.

Overall, if I were to go to Universal again, I would probably try out one of the other two properties on the resort grounds.

Gotta love the Hard Rock Hotel in Orlando for the 10 reasons:

1. Walking distance to Universal Studios and Island of Adventure and CityWalk
2. Length of stay express passes (i.e. no waiting for lines at the theme parks)
3. Concierge level has good food and drinks
4. Beds are comfy
5. Pool area is fun for adults and kids
6. The steak restaurant (Palms) is awesome
7. The multiple bars serve great drinks
8. Valet parking is quick
9. The Rock and Roll theme is fantastic
10. I celebrated News Year Eve here and the price was cheap

Walking into the hotel, we were all really amazed.  The pool was awesome and we made sure to come back to the hotel after the theme parks and spend a few hours there.  There are pool area hosts that held dancing and hula hoop contests during the day, which the kids enjoyed.  There is a nice sound system in the pool and they use it to play evening movies poolside in the evening.  Service from start to finish was great.  The hotel is so close to the parks, we often walked there.  Especially after having a few drinks at City Walk.  There is certainly no need to worry about the bus shuttle service as in Disneyworld.
A BIG bonus is the fact that you have early admission into the parks AND it includes the Express pass to get you to the front of the lines!!!!  The negative, of course, is the price.  At $400/night, it wasn't cheap.   Although if you travel during the low season, it may be cheaper.  That's what we'll do next time.

Like the hotel, the staff, the lobby and restaurants. This is my 2nd trip to this hotel. One issue prevails and it was the same issue last year. Housekeeping isn't great. The beds get made and room gets straightened up well enough. The main issue is the general sparkle of the room. There is none. Bathroom is main concern here and I don't think this is a housekeeping issue but more of a maintenance issue. Lots of mold visible in tub area. You know how mold just appears in the white silicon grout?, well there is much. Floors are dirty especially in the corners and I don't mean you have to use a microscope to see it. Tissue box looks like it has been handled many times and not cleaned ditto for the haze on the mirrors and pictures. Sitting here in room and looking at the entrance door, it looks like a Hotel 8 room. I may sound like I'm nit picking but when I see mold anywhere it just freaks me out. Now on to the good parts of hotel. Pool area wonderful. Pool staff very attentive. Front desk friendly and courteous. Everyone is totally accommodating and friendly.

A recent review triggered my review.

We stayed here, basically so we could get into Harry Potter earlier then the rest of the park and try to avoid some of the line for the ride. It was about 9 months after the ride came out and lines were much bettter by staying in the hotel, and getting early entry.

Also yes, they have a boat that will bring you to the parks and other locations where you can eat. Those restarants arent cheap so be prepared. But the ride is pretty cool at night. Be prepared to wait for the next boat out.

The pool area is pretty cool, it is made to look like a beach, it was also pretty cool walking in the hotel and seeing items and pictures from the musicians.  The price can always be cheaper, but we used discounts for the stay as usual.

Its the kind of place where you start thinking maybe you will see someone in the entertainment field. But most likely they never interact with the local guests.

The good- pool, location, amenities.  The bad- rude people, kids behaving badly (I was there with well behaved kids), expensive, parking and Internet is extra, upselling- they try to upsell you to higher price room- fell for it first night and it was a mistake- be careful!   Overall, it's a nice place in a great location if visiting Universal.   You also get fast pass which is a must if visiting Universal.  Found out that you can buy the fast pass so you Don't have to stay at one of the 3 Loews properties to get the fast pass.  For this kind of cash, I refer the JWMarriot or Ritz Carlton.  Same or less money!  Yup, get the AAA rate at the high end hotels many times before!

After debating between various accommodations near Universal Studios (Hard Rock Hotel versus Loews Pacific Royal... then even versus the budget hotels), I'm very glad we splurged for the Hard Rock Hotel.

What I liked:
- Express pass.  One hour early admission to Harry Potter.  This is apparently worth $80-90 per person.  I don't think I can go back to normal after this.  Only thing is you may have to take breaks between rides because there's no waiting in the express lines to wear out your motion sickness.
- The resort with the shortest walk to Universal Studios (less than 0.1 miles).  It's nice that there's the option of the water taxi every 20 minutes but you might as well start walking cause it's so close!
- Free delivery of items bought in Universal Studios back to your room.  Yes, you can impulse buy all day and not have to carry your items with you :)
- Free internet in lobby only
- Spacious rooms

What would have been nice:
- Free internet in the rooms.  I think the charge is about $10 per day.

What was not impressive:
- I called concierge for help with a "normal" taxi.  The representative was totally flustered.  She even proceeded to tell me that it was odd that this was not in their manual.  She asked me to look at the hotel information that was in the room.  Well... the hotel information said that the valet could help with a taxi.  They pulled up an black luxury suburban that didn't even have a dashboard to advertise rates.  I know, we should have RAN away then.  Anyhow, I thought it couldn't be too bad because we were only 1.2 miles away from our destination.  Luckily or unluckily, we paid $14 for a 1.2 mile or 3-4 min trip to Universal Blvd (to go to a Lighthouse Lobster Feast.. yes tourist trap I know)...  I think next time I'll take a chance with Mears Transportation Taxi to compare rates.  Oh, walking back wasn't too bad.  Location is great.  I know I sound like I'm complaining but I've been to other 5-star hotels where they do help you track down a "normal" taxi... or at least, give you the option of not getting robbed.

Wow! Amazing place. I didn't stay in a room here but did visit and explore the resort. The pool is fantastic surrounded by foliage, a pool bar, restaurant, and cabanas (for rent). It's either an easy walk over to Citywalk or a quick water taxi. From there, you can get either to the other resort hotels or to the parks. There is music/musician memorabilia all over the resort with small plaques to explain what it is that you're looking at. They have a quick service cafe on the lower level that is perfect for a quick breakfast of coffee, egg sandwich or danish. There are other offerings as well. All staff I ran into were pleasant and helpful. This hotel seems very popular with the younger set. It has more action than Portofino Bay. There is rock music being played out by the pool but the level of volume is pleasant and not obnoxious. As a warning, you do have to pay for parking.

If you like classic rock and you're willing to splurge a little bit on a hotel, STAY HERE. (It might not be splurging for people who aren't poor recent college graduates though...)

I stayed here with a friend in just a standard two queen room (I can't remember what the official room names are) and it was perfect for us. Everything in the room was very nice and well-kept. I LOVED the pictures of the classic rock bands hanging on the walls instead of the boring standard landscape pictures most hotels have. The bathroom was nice because the water closet (the toilet and the shower) was separate from the vanity and it also had its own sink.

The pool was awesome. It almost had a beachy feel because all of the beach chairs were off to one side in a sandy area and the pool itself had a kind of gradual descent like an actual beach. The week we were there, they showed a Harry Potter movie every night on a big screen at one end of the pool, which was awesome, since I was mainly in Orlando to go to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

The little store on the bottom floor was nice when we needed to grab something quick for breakfast on our way out in the mornings. Kinda pricey, but thats what you get for staying in a resort.

My two FAVORITE parts of my stay were the fact that there is ALWAYS rock music playing in the lobbies and the elevators, and the boat system they have to transport you to Universal Orlando so that you don't have to walk or drive. VERY convenient.

So yes, you should absolutely stay here if you're planning a Universal Orlando vacation.

Great service from the front desk (Emmanuel - you rock for figuring out my reservation problems and then comping breakfast for the troubles!).

This is the updated lobby design....more contemporary with touches of hard rock.  Large and inviting ....gives you the sense of arrival at a hard rock....friendly bellmen and front desk peeps.

Room was large, clean and had all the amenities.  Not much more than any 4 star hotel except for the addition of the CD player to "rock" your own hits or request cd's from their library.

Small but comfortable gym with fresh fruit in the morning.  A good selection of restaurants.  Nice pool area with lighting and speakers in it.  Lots of the signature hard rock cabanas around the pool.

If you self park....be prepared to haul your bags up a flight of stairs....best to valet it.  The best thing about this location is that it is connected to the CityWalk and Universal Studios theme park.

Excellent hotel!  The room was very clean and was ready for us at 10 AM when we arrived.  The staff at the hotel was very friendly, courteous, and helpful.

There is a safe in the large closet, the bathrooms are nice and you have 2 sinks.

The only thing I didn't like is that you need a key for the fridge due to the minibar.  I was afraid to open the fridge for fear that they would charge me for something.  I was also afraid my boys would get into it.

Very nice rooms and property!  The rooms are spacious and clean.  The staff are all friendly.  Never had a bad experience with them.

Pool area is beautiful.  The pool closes at 10PM (and they actually do throw everyone out, unlike some hotels where it's an unenforced policy), which is a little lame for night owls like me.

Drinks/food are good  but overpriced.  They do the "souvenir cup" thing where you buy a cup and then get a discount on subsequent drinks.   Not worth it in my opinion... and it's annoying to have to carry the cup around.

Access to the gym costs $10 a day or $20 for your whole stay.  It's decent but nothing amazing... some cardio machines, weight machines, dumbbells, and a Smith machine.  The gym needs a better ventilation system... it was extremely hot in there.

There's a small fridge in the room but no mini-bar.  You can order mini-bar packages from room service.  There's no convenience store or liquor store within walking distance, but the hotel does have a small cafe with Starbucks, ice cream, and snacks.

AC in the room didn't work very well.  I like the room cool at night but couldn't get the temperature to go below 75.

The wi-fi sucks.  It kept dropping connection and making me sign in again.  Phone service is also kind of spotty on the property.

I did not get to stay here.  We came and ate at the bar by the pool and explored the grounds.  The landscape near the lake was beautiful.  It was astonishing how quiet the grounds are despite Universal Studios being right next door.  All of the gardens and landscaping was immaculate.  The food at the bar was great and the drinks were great.  Staff was also very friendly.

If you are planning to visit Universal Orlando Resort and nothing else and could afford staying at the Hard Rock Hotel, I highly recommend doing it.  My wife and I stayed there and it was perfect.  You don't have to leave the Universal property at all.  You have Citywalk for food and nightlife entertainment and both theme parks within walking distance.

We've been staying at the Hard Rock at least once a year for the last several years.

While  it's not a "five star " luxury hotel in the traditional sense, it's likely the best option for anyone visiting Universal Orlando. It may cost more than other local hotels but when you consider what you get, it's worth it.

Firstly the hotel itself is always very clean. It has a really cool vibe and adds some excitement beyond just being a hotel. The staff is friendly and helpful and not stuffy. The rooms are very comfortable with great beds and features - even if a bit smallish. My only two minor complaints would be 1) you have to pay for wifi. 2) the bathroom/ water closets are too small. It's good that they separate the sink/mirror from the toilet/shower, but the water closet is so tight that you practically have to stand on the toilet to open the door. This time we booked a larger "deluxe queen" which gives you more room and a pull out couch. Well worth it for the extra space.

The hotel has good restaurants- the Kitchen has really good food and is open all the time. Emack and Bolios is basically a Starbucks with ice cream and the hotel has The Palm if you want high end (I reviewed this too).

The two best features of this hotel (and what really makes it worthwhile) are the pool and proximity to the parks.

The pool is among the best hotel pools I've seen. It's like a beach, has great music and entertainment and you can have drinks! The only downside is the cost of those drinks (if you're there for a few hours, have a few margaritas and beers be prepared to hit $100).

The proximity means you can walk to the parks and get there in 5 minutes. Of course you can take the water taxi or bicycles but of you don't like waiting, it's the shortest walk of the three on site hotels. When you're rushing to make it to Harry Potter before the park opens, it makes a difference.

Overall, when you consider the time you save by staying so close, the early park entry, the express pass and the fact that you never have to leave the Universal property, in the long run the cost is worth it. The express alone is a big value (that actually works well, not like Disneys fast pass).

For this trip I had some minor issues I never had before. I had a problem with the minibar that seemed to be broken. When I called the operator she was so busy lecturing me on not putting anything in the fridge, when I asked her to stop talking for a minute and listen to my problem she hung up- never experienced such rudeness there. But any other minor issues I had (such as housekeeping taking all the souvenir glasses from our room ) were quickly fixed with no problems.

We've looked at and into staying at the other properties on site but always end up coming back to the Hard Rock.

Great hotel! Walking distance to both Universal Parks and City Walk. They also have a complimentary water taxi to take you to and from City Walk. Everyone is friendly and attentive. We ate the buffet breakfast almost daily at their restaurant: The Kitchen. Staff there is very friendly. The food is fresh and delicious. Wide variety of food.

If you're a group of (nerdy) girls going on a bachelorette weekend to Orlando to visit Harry Potter world, then the Hard Rock is a pretty legit place to stay!

Here's a few details of our trip:

On our way to Orlando, my friends and I picked up an extra friend; I thought this would change the price of the hotel room because we had 5 instead of 4. We were able to check in early. They immediately brought a roll away bed to our room, but said it would be 25 dollars extra a night. Thankfully we weren't charged for that (maybe that was their mistake though).

We stayed in the Club level because it included breakfast and early admission/express lines to Universal. Not only did it include breakfast, but afternoon snacks, evening drinks/apps, and late night snacks. The breakfast was good, no bacon and eggs, but oatmeal, danishes/bagels/donuts, mimosas, cereal. The only other thing we attended was the evening drinks. They had coconut shrimp, pork skewers, cheese, veggies, and salad. The drinks included beer, wine and champagne. I was told every evening was a different theme night - very nice!

The early admission was worth it for us because we knew Harry Potter world was going to be packed. We were able to get in at 0800 and immediately rode the ride and did it again without a wait. The express pass got us first in line for most other rides within Islands of Adventure.

We didn't go to the Velvet Lounge or eat at any of the restaurants within the hotel. We did walk through the store but didn't purchase anything. All of the staff are extremely friendly and helpful.

There's a water taxi outside the hotel you can use to travel to City Walk or wherever you're going within the theme parks. Or you can take a pedicab, which are free, but run on tips!

The only complaint that I can think of is that they charge for wi-fi. Really? It's 2013, come on Hard Rock. You're making enough money on hotel rates to not have to charge for wi-fi.

My friends and I have already been talking about coming back next year for an annual girls trip, and we'll definitely be staying at the Hard Rock for all the extra amenities!

Another 4.5 star worthy review, but I'm rounding up here because it was such a fun and unique experience.  I was fortunate enough to be staying here at a nice discount thanks to my brother, at full price, perhaps would give a 4-star review.  I will list the few negatives at the end.

This Hotel is amazing.  I LOVED the rock n roll theming.  The constant music adds so much to the energy and atmosphere.  They played a great variety of music to appeal to almost everyone.  The staff was fun and friendly, the cashier in the gift shop did a magic trick for me!

I love when hotels pay attention to detail and there was rock n roll detail all over the place, which made it fun to explore.  Each staff member had the name of their favorite music artist on their name tags which invited fun interaction with them.

The room decor was chic, I personally did not find the decor outdated as some previous reviewers did.  The photos of The Beatles and Tom Petty on the walls was a nice touch.  The room was also very clean and the bed was super soft and comfortable.

Probably the highlight of our stay was the time spent out by the pool.  My 2-year old had a blast!  The pool is very big, but allows for shallow entry perfect for small children, they also have free life jacket rentals, and a pool just for small children.
Some of the lounge seating was on a sandy area, and that was fun for my little girl as well.  There was also pool side food and drink service by a very friendly and attentive staff.  Best of all, was the entertainment.  I really enjoyed hearing loud rock n roll music while lounging by the pool.  The DJ's played a great mix of music and got the kids involved in fun games.  Loud music by the pool may not be for everyone, but that's why there are other hotels nearby like the Lowes or Portofino Bay.

There are a couple of things I think they could improve upon especially to make the experience worth the full nightly rate:

Our shower/bath water was either cold or super hot, getting it to a comfortable temperature was near impossible.

Charging a nightly rate for WiFi doesn't seem fair in a deluxe hotel with lots of people staying there for business purposes.

The nightly rate for parking $18 is way too high!!

Overall a great experience.  I can't wait to stay there again!

Good walking  location to City Walk and Universal Studios. Very good service and staff. The pool and the pool entertainment were very good. There were always clean towels and cold water for the guests at the pool. I liked the fact that you get Express Passes by staying at the hotel. Those were so helpful and reduced wait times at the park. There is in and out privileges for parking as a guest.  Overall it was a very good experience staying at this hotel and will come back again.

For our visit to Universal Orlando we thought we'd check out the Hard Rock Hotel.  We got season passes to the parks and thought for our first time visit we would take advantage of staying onsite.  My husband wasn't very thrilled of packing up for an overnight when we live just 15 minutes away, but in the end it was worth it.

Our stay was at the tail end of the holiday season.  We had booked a garden view two queen room, but we ended up with a nice view overlooking the pool.  I was very pleased with the size and shape of the room.  There was plenty of space and it was nice having a table and some chairs for seating.  There was enough space for the roll away bed.  The room had a mini bar filled with goodies, but we didn't bother trying any.  The Keruig Coffee maker offered plenty of coffee, tea and cocoa.

The Hard Rock Hotel is a beautiful space.  The lobby has a hip, but comforting feel about it.  There are chairs and sofas for guests to relax in while waiting for rooms.  The hotel is like the Hard Rock Café; you will find plenty of music memorabilia scattered about the hotel.  It can be fun learning tidbits about musicians.  To add to the rock and roll theme the hotel has music played throughout the grounds.

I've visited the other two Universal resorts before, but this was the first time I had seen the Hard Rock Hotel.  I loved the location.  It's very close to Universal and walking there is a breeze; Islands of Adventure is a bit farther, but the water taxi to CityWalk helps when you're a bit tired.

While the majority of guests are here for the theme parks the hotel itself is worthy of a visit.  The pool area is gorgeous.  There is plenty to do while spending time at the pool.  My daughter claimed the water slide here was the best she's been on!  In the afternoon there are some pools games for the kids and at night they have a nightly Dive in Movie.

If you'd like some drinks or eats while lounging at the pool you can head over to the Beachclub poolside bar.  If you prefer to stay out in the sun you will find servers coming around the pool happy to take your order.

The Hard Rock Hotel offers two other restaurants; The Kitchen and Palm Restaurant.  You can also get some grab and go snacks down at Emack & Bolios Marketplace.  If you're looking for more options CityWalk and the other two resorts offer a number of dining choices.

The Hard Rock Hotel has a gorgeous Velvet Bar where you can grab some drinks & appetizers.  This stylish lounge is a great place to top off your night.  The last Thursday of the month is Velvet Sessions where it's a nice intimate musical performance from various know musicians.

I really enjoyed our stay at the Hard Rock Hotel.  It's beautiful space with great amenities and a friendly staff.  It's a wonderful place to lounge around.  Well worth staying here to take advantage of the On-Site Hotel Benefits such as Early Park Admission and Skip the Regular Lines.

This is my favorite hotel at Universal Studios. It has such a great atmosphere. It is great for kids and adults. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The only problem I have with the rooms is that they don't have balconies. It would be nice to have some fresh air. I am sure there is a legal liability or something that prevented that. It is very close to the parks and City Walk. If you don't feel like walking, you can always take the water taxi. You can also catch one of the guys on the bikes. I highly recommend staying at the Hard Rock.

Totally a downhill slide for this property - and so sad to watch.  It was never better than decent, and this latest visit was an absolute train wreck.  We booked a huge suite on the club level, and walked into our room (midnight, tired from a long drive) to find the room over 80 degrees, a large professional drying fan at full blast, and a soaking wet, flooded carpet in the second bedroom.  Are you kidding me?  What moronic housekeeping manager approved that room to be put back online for guests?  Seriously?!  What was I supposed to do when I found a professional dryer on the carpet and my socks got soaking wet? Then, a fire alarm went off at 2am, and the operator admitted they didn't know how to turn it off!  Finally, next morning our club access cards didn't work, and we were in a hurry to have breakfast and get to our tour.  Nothing done right by this horribly trained crew.  Totally unprofessional - with any hint of management an absolute joke.  I will never stay here again.

Just got back from a glorious three day stay at the hotel. The service was impeccable. Especially the bell staff and the pool/cabana staff.  They were always pleasant and helpful. The property is well maintained and so much to enjoy. You can park your car and never get back in it until you go. So much to do on site or just take a nice scenic walk or water taxi to City Walk. It's such a magical and happy place. Stress free the entire time we were there.

We stayed 4 nights for our 1 year wedding anniversary, and let me tell you the problems started the second we walked into the hotel.  Being our anniversary, I booked the "club" level, which is supposed to be the nice level.

Right away, we see we have to use our room key to get to the 7th floor in the elevator.  No one told us that, so we had an awkward shuffle for our key while standing in the elevator.  The key never worked properly the entire stay at the hotel, and a few times we rode up and down with other people going to the other floors watch us struggle to get the key to work. Fun.

The first time we made it to the top floor, we were assigned a room number that didn't exist.  Big thanks to the blonde concierge that made us ice cream sundaes while she sorted that out.  End of day #1.

Day #2 starts off fine, but when we get back to the room it was 72 when we set the AC to 66. I think the AC only starts when you are in the room, which makes it uncomfortable every time you come back in.  We went to The Kitchen for dinner, where we had some of the worst waiter service I've ever had. End of day #2

Day #3 and so far it's really only been little things. We come back to our not-cooled off room and when I pull down the sheets there is what I really hope wasn't a poop stain and a clump of hair stuck to the sheet.  This was, needless to say, disgusting.  I called downstairs and they took about 15 minutes to send someone to do something to help.  She obviously wasn't told it was a "code-brown" because even the maid scrunched her face when she saw the sheet.

Day #4 was the anniversary day.  The hotel knew this.  No champagne, no chocolate strawberries, no acknowledgement at all that it was our anniversary.  Honestly, I don't even know why they asked me when I booked if we were celebrating something if they weren't planning on doing anything for me.  Also, we took a cab to Discovery Cove to swim with dolphins.  The cab the hotel called for us charged $30. It was only $25 from the service at Discovery Cove to get back.  So someone is pocketing cash.

Day #5 was checkout.  The front desk lady asked how our stay was and I let her know everything in this review.  I had pre-paid for the stay, but I had about $500 in room charges, so she took off $100.  I was ready to leave so I accepted that SMALL token and left. She said she hoped we would give them another try, but I let her know that was not going to happen.

If you are looking for a luxury hotel, this place is not it.  If you want sub-par facilities and poor service, I would recommend you give these guys a try.

Gorgeous Hotel and grounds. Walking distance to Universal Studios. The Restaurants are wonderful. Well prepared food, courteous staff. Our room was a standard  two queen bed room , clean, well decorated, nicely prepped. I would say the only drawbacks were the Desk staff not being as well versed in the How, What  and Where of things that are going on in the Hotel and with Universal packages. I didn't know about the $20.00 a day fee for parking , which as a Hotel guest I believe is ridiculous.

I went to this lovely hotel during Christmas. I  had a great time. At the time they had a Florida resident special. I was able to get a room in the fancy floor number seven. The employees were very helpful, always someone there ready to help. Valet is worth it. So invest in that. However, we stayed at the hotel mostly. There is a ferry in the back that takes you to the parks. Recommended

This should be 2.5 stars as 50% is a fair grading.
First impressions were ooohs and ahhhing as the entrance and lobby are very beautiful and the valet was very accommodating.
Check in was very quick and getting the express passes was easy.
I'll list the pros and cons to our hard rock experience then a short summary.
- Internet is $9.95 perday!
- Internet didn't reach the pool area and was only available on 3 devices, them you had to pay another $9.95
- if you need to cool your own drinks, medicine etc you have to hire a fridge
- to re-heat room service you have to hire a microwave
- food service was terrible. The steak fries were limp, the creme brûlée was made with condensed milk and they have the audacity to include a 22% gratuity plus delivery charge them you have to pay a tip! 22% is definitely on reserved for fine dining restaurants when they do a good job.
- the room. Was an absolute joke for $360 plus 12.5 room tax plus regular tax. It was old and dingy and was generally worn down. If you compare this to say the marina bay sands in singapore (much more expensive place than usa and a 6.5 billion dollar hotel) for the same price this hotel is surely delusional as it should be $50-60 per night. The beds were comfortable and served there purpose and the flat screen had some good channels for the kids, although it cut in and out a lot.
- the restaurants are very poor with generally overpriced and average food.
- $25 per day for valet plus tip plus tax or $18 per day plus tax for parking, crazy.
- The pool area is quite nice with fairly white sand to give the impression your at the beach, although that might no be everyone's preference when at a pool.
- the gardens and entrance is beautiful
- express passes included is a bonus
- location to park is handy as its a short walk
- water taxi was a nice way to travel to the parks

So summarizing this hotel is average at the very best and far from good value. All the negatives bring the hotel to a place that is purely for the absolute due hard fans and it should be avoided unless you have a desire to get ripped of at all stages during your stay and don't mind sub standard rooms

The WORST luxury hotel ever! Day 1 - no AC, no wi-Fi. Day 2 - no housekeeping, poor wi-Fi. Day 3 - beds made and towels left but no toiletries or coffee refilled, tub stops draining, cold shower. Calls to front desk each day -told manger would be informed and never heard back. Heard other guests complaining about wi-Fi and found out complimentary wi-Fi poor but if you pay an extra $14.95 it's suddenly great. Staff was not always courteous. Pool was nice! I will NEVER return.

Hard Rock Hotel is expensive, but possibly worth it. Here are some key points...

1. The property is beautiful with immaculately manicured grounds, a sparkling lobby, and a large pool/lounge chair area that is perfect for a break from the parks.
2. Aside from some occasional framed posters in the rooms, the hotel is more "Symphony Orchestra" than "hard rock". It has a genteel understated elegance about it that is much more upscale than anything else.
3. Fast passes come with your stay. These are very worth it if you have limited time or desire for waiting in long lines.
4. It is about a 5 minute walk to Universal Studios and maybe 5 more to Islands of Adventure. You can easily stay here and skip the rental car. If you need it, there is a water taxi and a bike cart that transports from the hotel.
5. The staff are very good. I was most impressed with the luggage services staff. They are the definition of professional.
6. This is still Orlando. The walls are a bit thin and the park opens at 8 for hotel guests. This means that you will hear kids screaming and talking in normal excited five year old voices in the hall at 7:30 a.m. If you stayed out at CityWalk too late the night before, this can be rough.

- nice pool
- refrigerator in the room
- comfortable bedding
- close to Universal
- liked the restaurants
- wifi included (but it was too slow to watch Netflix at night)

- have to pay to use the gym. really?!
- wish they had an option like some other hotels where you can hang your towels as an indication that you don't want new ones, and can place them on the floor if you want them replaced. It's a way to conserve resources when guests stay for several nights in a row.
- they make recycling difficult
- very thin walls
- price
- far away from restaurants and nightlife. Orlando is just about the least walkable transit-friendly city I've been to, so this was a problem for me. Cab fare got ridiculous.

Honestly, I'll likely be choosing one of the common 3-star chain hotels next time. Far more bang for your buck. If you're spending all of your time at Universal, this may be worth it. If not, look elsewhere. You pay enough for the room itself and then you're gouged for everything else on top of it.

Stayed here with my family from 1/3/15 to 1/7/15. Great hotel on the property of universal studios. The parks and citywalk are a short walk away (through a nicely landscaped path along the water) or you can take the free water taxi. Another great perk is the free express ride pass. This was a life saver, we did not wait in any line to get on rides. You should definitely take advantage of the hour early entry into Harry Potter, we did not and regret that. It is the most crowed place in the park. We all felt really comfortable at the hard rock. Its very casual and the staff were very friendly. The first day we hung out at the pool and beach club restaurant waiting to check in. Our waitress (Kiki) was great! Food was good. The weather was amazing, kids swam while we sat at the beach club listening to live music. They also did some contest with the kids that they seemed to enjoy (kids are 10 and 12). They did check us in about an hour early, which was very nice. The room was clean and had contemporary decor, mini fridge, kureig coffee maker, hair dryer, flat screen, etc....We got a pool view, which was ok. The hotel knew we were there for my sons birthday, and left him surprise cake in the room. We did not rent a car, which was fine for the four nights we were there because there are plenty of places to eat at city walk/hotel/parks. If we stayed longer I would probably rent a car and see some other places. There is SO much to see and do in this area.

There is no other place like the Hard Rock Hotel in Orlando. To wit , have you been to the Hard Rock pool on any given Saturday ? say... during Spring Break for example ? It is something that must be experienced!
I think that the fact that the staff is allowed to freely express themselves with their hairstyles, tattoos, jewelry and more reflects on how they genuinely treat the guests and make them feel at ease.
Additionally, the fact that you are a mere five minute walk from the entrance to Universal and few extra steps to all the City Walk fun, just makes your stay extra sweet.
Highlight and bold the benefit that you would enjoy the most while staying here, which is the Unlimited Express Pass to enjoy when you visit Universal Orlando's theme parks and your stay is as unique and special as you want it to be.
The Early Park Admission also for hotel guests is amazing and the proximity to the parks really allows you to enjoy the destination to its fullest.
Totally worth it! Amazingly fun times, just give in to the whole rock and roll atmosphere and enjoy !!!

This is a great hotel. Lots of fun. I've been coming here for approximately 6 years straight. This is the first year that I wasn't satisfied. I never rented a car here before but this was my first year. I was surprised they charge you $ 20 a day to park. Especially since your paying an absorbent amount because it's spring break. Love the hotel, kids love it but the charge for parking left a bad taste in my mouth..

I went on a vacation with my mother to Universal and this was the perfect hotel to stay at! The other available hotels either seemed to be more family oriented, or more for couples...both looked great when we walked to them, but still was great.
The Hard Rock hotel is only a 5 minute walk to Universal, but if you don't feel like walking, or are heading to the boardwalk, go ahead and take the water taxi! But no matter what you do be sure to take the water taxi at least once! The Hotel is so close, you may be tired when you're done at the park, but its a faster walk, then walking over to the water taxi that's on the other side of the bridge. As well as taking the Water Taxi once, be sure you go through the BUTTERFLY AREA! It is on the walk to the park, and a great place to walk through!
There is great memorabilia all over the hotel! Also, the Kitchen is a great place to go and eat, be sure to try the Macaroni and Cheese, but it is a bit pricey

THE BEST PART of staying at a Universal Hotels is that you get a Express Pass FOR FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is amazing because that means you get a separate line for you and the others with the Express Pass, and get on the ride in half the time! I'll give you an example: We went on one of the water rides at noon on a super hot day, thinking we'd have to wait but it would be shorter wait...nope! It was right onto the ride!

My girlfriend and I stayed here for 4 nights in mid-November and really loved it. The hotel itself is great and our room was comfortable and clean, al beit a little small. The pool area was a big bonus too!

The biggest advantage though is its proximity to the parks and CityWalk (about a 4-5 minute walk), and the express lane pass that you get from staying at the hotel. We didn't wait in line longer than 10 minutes all weekend and were able to enter the WWoHP 1 hour early, ahead of the uncomfortable crowds that kind of spoil the magic of the place.

We would definitely stay here again and look forward to planning our next trip!

We were here for three nights, paid a little more for the pool view - worth it. You get  pool and palm tree views, plus out in the distance some of the rides at Universal Studios. Room was comfortable, clean, fresh, and modern, plenty of outlets for charging gadgets. Pretty spacious. The drawers were clean, no dusts.

The pool area was fun and big enough for the many guests. Only con, the deepest part, 4ft, was small, makes it harder to really swim. The staff poolside was friendly and helpful.

Very clean and well maintained grounds. Nice walk to universal studios if you wanted to walk, the water taxi was nice too. We never experienced much wait time for them.

Loved the express passes and early entries to Universal Studios.

We would definitely stay here again.

This place is amazing! We stayed here for a few nights before heading to the Bahamas. Hotel was nicely decorated and styled in line with the other Hard Rock venues. We stayed on the top floor (think it was 7th) and it was soooo worth the extra money. They offered snacks and drinks, including alcoholic beverages, during certain times of the day. Wasn't expecting too much for the snacks, but they actually had a good variety and not just chips, but actual hot appetizers too. The area where the fix and drinks were served was nice, had some tables and TVs to watch if you are there, we took most of our goodies to the room.

Also loved staying here because of the close proximity to Universal Studios. There's a water taxi that goes back and forth between the hotels and the park all day and night. The walk wasn't bad though, pretty scenery and didn't have to wait for the water taxi if it wasn't there.

However I haven't even gotten to the best part of staying here... You get fast passes for staying there which you can use in the parks to cut the lines. We all know how amusement park lines can be crazy long but most of the rides in both parks have separate lines that you have access to with the passes. Added bonus was seeing people's faces as you stroll by them and get on the ride right away while they've been waiting in line.

My girlfriends and I took a little 'staycation' for my sister's bachelorette weekend and we stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel. We had stayed in the Royal Pacific Hotel last year for another friend's bachelorette so we wanted to change it up a bit.

The check-in was a bit crazy in that there was a long, slow moving line. This is to be expected from a hotel in that area, and particularly right around check-in time, so it was not a problem.

We had two rooms but as soon as we got in the first room (dubbed our 'party room') we realized that we could have probably all stayed in one room. We got the 2 queen bed option, plus the room has a couch (which I imagine is a pull-out bed as well). We slept two in a bed comfortably, so we probably could have fit 5-6 girls in one room.

Here are my big highlights:
- Apparently you can have an electric guitar sent up to your room (with a refundable deposit) and we took full advantage of this! This is a true Pro-Tip since they don't advertise it (we only knew because one of the girlfriends works for Hard Rock Corporate).
- The rooms are huge and very well decorated!
- Want to watch movies but avoid the pay-per-view fees? Request a dvd player to be sent up to your room! We did this and got to watch a bunch of girly movies (not porn....!)

Here are the ~eh~ moments:
- The fitted sheet that covers the mattress was actually just a regular sheet tucked in... I don't know if it's just me, but it kind of freaked me out when one of the girls inadvertently slept under that sheet - directly on the mattress cover which had a stain or two...
- We couldn't get the DVD player to work and after calling the desk to get someone to help us (the operator wasn't the most pleasant), the guy came and immediately made it work. When we asked how he did it (since we'd spent almost 30 mins trying to get it to work) he said that you had to turn the TV to channel 90. . . . This would have been great to know prior to spending a bunch of time trying to make the damn thing work. I'd suggest that they get a label-maker and put that on the DVD player! ~grrr~

Overall, we had a blast! The facilities are awesome, it has a boat that takes you directly to Universal, and the electric guitar was a total treat (we got some ridiculous pictures of us jamming out in our jammies!).

My husband and I stayed for four nights with our 11- and 5-year old grandsons during their Spring break from school this year.  We were pretty disappointed, on the whole, considering the price of this hotel.  $20/day for self-parking seems rather exorbitant .

The hotel was clean, but there was no soap in our room when we arrived.  When the maid cleaned the room the first time, she didn't empty the trash.  We had to call for replacements for the fridge, the Keurig coffee maker and the iron because none of them worked.  it took two days to get a functioning coffee maker.  We didn't mention the ironing board, but once set up, it wouldn't go back down because the latch was broken.

We did enjoy the express line passes that came with our package.  They made the lines for most of the rides at both parks a breeze.  The pool and water taxis were great.  Even though the walk to the parks is only about 5-10 minutes, we had walked between 7 and 9 miles each day, and our little guy was tired.

We had no problems with food or restaurant service onsite, but the prices were high for what you get.  We will probably visit Universal again, but we will not stay at the Hard Rock.  Hopefully one of the other onsite resort hotels is better managed.

Beautiful hotel and grounds.  The rooms are spacious and have THE best electrical outlets I've seen in a long time.  The outlets near the bed even have data ports, made charging our iPhones a breeze.  There are several restaurants on site and if you aren't interested in visiting the amusements parks, the hotel is fun to hang around.

Not happy with the housekeeping staff, they seem disorganized and pushy.  Our first night here we had dinner and finished the evening and went to our room.  It was around 9pm.  There was insistent knocking on our door, I went to the door and there was a housekeeper there with linens in her arms, she actually started to walk into the room.  I said, "can I help you", she says, "I'm here to make your sofa bed".  I said, "that won't be necessary, there are only two of us".  Since hubby and I were here on our anniversary and the hotel knew this, because they wished us Happy Anniversary upon check-in.  Did they want us to sleep on separate beds?  She just stood there and stared at me and says, "you don't want?"  NOPE I don't want....  The 2nd night there around 5pm, we had come back from the parks and were showering and getting ready for dinner, this woman showed up again.  She wanted to CLEAN our room, she didn't get to it all day while we were gone.  Hubby answered the door this time, and once again, she tried to push her way past him.  HELLO, why did she want in to our room so bad?  Later that night after dinner we noticed our message light blinking, we had a message from housekeeping saying that they had tried twice to clean our room and that we refused.  I told the operator, I have a message for housekeeping.  I said if they could come at a time that isn't at night, then maybe they could actually clean the room.  The operator apologized for their behavior and asked what time we would like them to come the following day.  I said, please have them come at noon.  They showed up at 10am, WHATEVER.   Housekeeping gets a BIG BIG zero at this hotel.

The rest of the staff has been A M A Z I N G.  Check in was a breeze and very pleasant.  Room service staff has a sense of humor and are super professional, setting up your table and everything.  The TV guy who showed up had us fixed up in 10 minutes.  And EACH AND EVERYONE of them asked for permission to enter our room.  They actually use the words, "may I enter your room".  Did the housekeeping staff miss that training session??????

We ate several times at The Kitchen and were very happy with the service and staffing there as well.

Ok, back to pleasant items.  These grounds are beautiful.  Make sure to bring a camera and take time to walk the grounds.  They even have a butterfly garden and there is plenty of wildlife.  Many tiny lizards, that are as curious about you and you are about them and squirrels.  The walkway adjacent to the waterway is just stunning and peaceful so take some time and explore outdoors.  The hotel is just minutes from all of Universal and just a 10 minute drive from The Premium Outlet center (if you like to shop, it's a must stop)

Just outside of the Hard Rock is a water taxi stand that can take you to either of the two parks and City Walk, it's so easy and fun.  The BIG bonus of staying at hotel associated with Universal is that you can shop till you drop and not have to carry one bag.  Ask the cashier to send your packages to your room and VOILA, the next day they magically appear in your room.  It's THE BEST (ok so I may have a shopping problem).  I bought all my gifts in the park and never had to worry about carrying them, storing them or whether I forgot one on a ride or not.  It really is a huge advantage of staying on site.

I will never stay at this location or another Hard Rock hotel again.  There were so many bad things and no upside at all.  The customer service staff is rude.  The first night I called room service and they told me 45 mins.  I said is there anything that takes less time and they said the Turkey Club, I said how long, they said 20 mins.  I sad perfect, but then they said 45 mins.  I have never been in a hotel room that wouldnt extend the checkout and the front desk manager, Raj, was so rude and didnt do anything to make me feel wanted.  Food and drinks were way too expensive and not good.  All in all, dont stay unless you want to be treated poorly and taken advantage of.

Expensive?  Yes.  Worth it?  Depends.

Best benefits include (1) complimentary fast passes to the Universal park(s) - up to 4, I believe.  If you counted on paying for those, remove them from your room charge and it's considerably less expensive and (2) proximity to the park.  You can ride the water taxi for fun but the walk to Universal Studios is quick and scenic (and you might just beat the water taxi as well).

Here's a jumbled list of things I remember from my stay:

*Pricing with discounts - call.  There are seasonal discounts, Universal Annual Passes discounts, Florida resident discounts, military discounts and more.  Their website...well...it sucks (This is the one on the Universal Studios page btw).  There is a spot to enter the discount code but good luck finding any of them if you're trying to book online.  Best bet?  Call them and ask what discounts they have.
*Universal website sucks.  I can't say it enough.
*Valet and self parking ($18/day)
*Fast passes to the park
*Water taxi (~every 20 mins)
*Gym - $10 - WTF?!  This, in my opinion, should be included in your room charge.
*Hard Rock shop inside
*Work parties
*Wifi isn't free
*Mini Bar but no fridge - surprised by that one.
*Can't use the luggage carts - bellhops only
*Within 5 minute walk to Universal
*Watch out for bikes on walking path - the touristy ones and the taxi ones both.
*Room keys are personalized with your name.
*Make sure to sign up for your Hard Rock rewards card so your purchases count

My family and I stayed at the Hard Rock December 15-19.  Overall good hotel.  Service though is eh in some areas (mainly the restaurant The Kitchen.)  Our check in was very quick and full of enthusiasm (Amanda.)  We were checked into the 7th floor which they refer to as Rock Royalty (club level with club privileges.)  We asked for a view of the park but was told that they had none.  Definitely ask for a pool view.  That will give you the pool and Universal.  If we had that view and the restaurant service was better, it would have been a 5 star...low 5, but 5 nonetheless.

The club level gives you access to a small club area that offers a little more than a continental breakfast, snacks midday, evening hors doeuvres, and a late night dessert snacks.  Plus all the water, soda, and some alcohol.  This is a GREAT feature and I recommend it to everyone.  The food was also very good.  Because the room is small and everything is free, it does get a little crowded at times.

Our room was at the end of a small hallway so private and convenient at the same time.  The room was a standard room.  Pretty comfortable, except for the hard beds.  The other thing that was strange was that there was no counter space in the bathroom, just a rolling table.  A little hard for more than two people.  Housekeeping was great...we left for the day and upon return a ready room!  We also had turndown service in the evening.  The housekeeping staff an easy 4 star.

We had lunch and dinner in The Kitchen located on the 1st floor (different days.)  On both days, we experienced so-so service.  Not very attentive, but took care of things if you asked.  We had a very bad experience  at dinner, but that we be covered in a separate review of The Kitchen.  Food taste and presentation, an easy 4 star, but a bit pricey.  We understand hotel pricing, but a few dollars less would make it so worth it.  Nonetheless, easy place to eat in the hotel.

We chose to self park for $20/day vs. valet.  The parking is very easy and accessible to no biggie.  I bought a watch from the lobby store.  Staff very helpful in there.

The best feature, we thought, was the easy access to the park.  Easy 5 minute walk to and from.  Then of course we had the early admission for staying on property...that in itself is priceless!  We have done this twice now and different hotels and it is well worth the price!

We did make use of the pool on one day, and that was an easy 4 star.  The pool is a wading pool no deeper than 4.6, and lifeguards galore.  It also has a decent slide.  The only complaint was that the Jacuzzis were not hot enough. There is one for adults only and one for everyone.  Great layout and a pool side snack (restaurant) to boot.  Although we did not eat there.

Tip: Use the short cut through the pool area to go to and from the park.  Stock up on water from the club for the park.  Use your early admission...it makes all the difference!  Trust us!!  The water taxi is also a nice way to relax your tired legs, but the hotel is so close that you don't need it.  Sign up for Hard Rock Rewards and ask for your late check out.

If you want an upbeat hotel, this is your hotel.  We would return on a good deal.

I really liked this hotel.  Like, really.  The music was probably the best part.  So if you're a music buff / junkie (classic rock lover) like I, you'll enjoy it.
The rooms are pretty spacious and the decor is nice!  Love the clean, modern feel of the rooms.  Also, there is a sink and mirror in the bathroom, plus one outside.  So if you're staying with other people, getting ready should be less of an issue.

Love the convenient location of this hotel.  It's an easy walk to Universal Studios and that whole area.  Or, you could be lazy and take the water taxi...  Although, I will admit...it's kind of a nice "drive."

Anyway, if you're looking for a nice hotel to lodge at, Hard Rock is an option!

The Hard Rock Hotel Orlando at Universal Studios is probably one of my families favorite hotels in the state of Florida. We've stayed in nearly every category room with the exception of the Graceland Suite, but our last visit was the best ever. We were able to secure one of their infamous "Family Suites" which is hands down one of the best kid friendly hotel rooms we've ever stayed in. The entire "bedroom" that is attached to the room is for the KIDS. There is even a separate entrance to the bathroom from the kids room & a kids sized sink! When you add this great room with one of the best pools in Orlando (12,000 sq ft with underwater music & a water slide...does it get much better?) You get one of the best hotels in Orlando. If you are staying at Universal...this is the BEST hotel on property....much much better than Portofino Bay in my opinion. You will not be disappointed!

I won a trip here from a local radio station back home so we didn't have much options as to where we could stay but after arriving to Orlando we had an overall great experience.  The hotel was great. I enjoyed the pool bar and server running around the pool. Both were friendly and quick to serve.  If I make it back to Orlando I'll make this my first option.  The nice part about this place it's close to other bars/hotels where you can go to the other hotels and enjoy their pool and bar.

Great hotel.  It's just a 5 minutes to walk to the entrance of Universal which is incredible.  The staff is very friendly and helpful.

A great added bonus is getting an express pass for the parks at no charge with my stay. Those cost over $100 a day if you have to buy one.

The only complaint I have is the parking. They charge $20 a day to park at the hotel. It is an upscale hotel and the prices reflect that which is no problem.  I just don't like being charged for parking. It seems a little like taking advantage of the guest.

Absolutely stunning hotel.  I've traveled the country for work and leisure for years and stayed in a lot of higher end hotels and this one takes the cake for sure.

I first stayed here back in June for the annual SHRM (HR) conference.  I flew in from North Dakota at the time, obviously before I moved to Orlando, and chose to stay away from the work nonsense and stay at the Hard Rock.  I had stayed on Universal grounds before (Royal Pacific) and didn't think anything could top that.  I was very wrong.

What impressed me first was the rockstar greeting from the moment I got out of my car.  They bellman offered to help with the luggage, which I declined, but go me in the door and pointed towards the front desk.  Upon walking into the Hard Rock Hotel it's amazing.  Great rock music playing, staff full of smiles and a great diverse vibe of people having fun at their jobs and seemingly more working a passion.

Upon checking in, the front desk agent upgraded me to a room, without asking, facing the pool that was recently renovated.  I was informed of The Kitchen, their onsite restaurant, of the bars, gift shop, pool, pool bar, fast pass upgrades, and all of the other amenities.  I was impressed with the level of customer service.

I wasn't quite sure what to expect from the room.  At some of these resorts you get a killer hotel with a ton of amenities but the rooms can suck.  Not here.  My room had a beautiful view of the pool, some type of Keurig type machine for coffee (but not a Keurig), two queen beds, a great TV, a cool mirror with celebrity heights etched in, high end soaps, and an amazing shower head with one of the best massaging shower heads to pound away at the migraine the next morning.  It was great.  One of the coolest things, to me, was the do not disturb sign.  It read something like "not now, my ego needs a rest".  Fitting.

The pool was great.  They show movies outside at night and have pool servers that will keep you fed and dehydrated on booze all day, if that's your thing.

The pool bar was probably my favorite.  Sat out there a few times on the trip.  The bartenders were great.  There was one bartender, I can't remember his name, that was a former Marine (as am I) and he was cool to chat with and made excellent drinks.  They also sell cigars down there and have some TV's if there's a game or anything you want to watch.

Ate at The Kitchen once and it was excellent.  Of course it's pricey, as expected, but you definitely get what you pay for here.

The hotel has transportation to Universal for guests. I recommend the boat as it's fun and it sure beats the heck out of walking, even though the walk only takes about 5 minutes, if that :)

Now that I've moved to Orlando, I've been back to the Hard Rock Hotel for drinks on a couple occasions.  Even when they know your local they still treat you like it's your first time there.  Great customer service.

Awesome hotel.  Definitely worth the price and a must-see in the Orlando area.

We have two teenage boys that love both parks at Universal. They are at the age now where we don't have to be with them all the time.  It is nice for the wife and I to sit by the pool and have a frozen drink while they enjoy Dueling Dragons for the 5th time.  Being able to walk to both parks and CityWalk is well worth paying $50 more a night for this hotel. They just remodeled some rooms and turned out great.  Try to get a room on the first floor, garden view so you can walk right out to the pool or path to the park. Rooms 1125-1149.
The pool is the best of the 3 hotels by far. I have to go down the slide at least once a day when there.

One of the best hotels ever. I loved staying here- I wish we stayed for more than a night. The staff were amazing - always so helpful and friendly.
The room was gorgeous with lots of quirky and cute touches. Super clean and super luxurious.
It was such an easy walk to the park, or you could get a water taxi.
The hotel had so much going on already- you could spend an afternoon exploring it!
I would definitely stay at this hotel next time I head to Orlando (which hopefully will be soon!)

We were looking forward to a weekend stay here last December.  My mom, who has COPD, tagged along.  Upon entering the lobby - the scent machines in use are the first thing we noticed.  By the time we finished checking in, it was clear we had a problem.   Hoping the scent machines were confined to the lobby, we went to the room and at that point she had to take several puffs on her emergency inhaler.

The hallways and room were just as bad.  We quickly took her outside to a bench to get fresh air while I went with the bellman to look at a second room.  No luck.  They are pumping the entire property with high amounts of this (toxic smelling) scent + ionized air.  Even by the time we left (I'm a healthy non smoker) my lungs were burning too.  Literally takes your breath away.  Within the hour, we were checking out and going in search of another hotel.  She was embarrassed and felt horrible, but we assured her it was the hotel's problem.  A clean hotel should include clean, fresh air to breathe.

The staff was nice!  Very helpful in dealing with the situation and were more than apologetic.  But even as much as they were helpful, I'm sure if we went back today, there would be no change in the amount of scent they are pumping in.  When I questioned why there was so much scent, they seemed a little numb to it - Like they have been in the gas chamber so long, they no longer smelled the fumes.  They suggested we might transfer to one of the Resort's other hotels, but since all are owned by Loew's, they felt sure that scent machines were being used.  Like in the old coal mines, HRH might think about installing a birdcage with canaries in the lobby.  LOL.  I'm not exaggerating when I say it was extreme.

Without a doubt, the way it irritated my healthy lungs is an indication that it can't be good for the body.  Loews and Hard Rock Hotel should really reconsider the use of these machines throughout all of their properties and limit the amount of scent they are pumping into the lungs of their guests and staff.   None of this seems in keeping with the Hard Rock brand.

I stay at the Hard Rock Hotel at least once a year.  I absolutely love everything about the hotel.  The rooms are always clean and beautifully decorated with rock n roll memorabilia.  The location is perfect- even better than Universal's Portofino Bay.  The Hard Rock is a five minute walk from all the excitement of Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure and the City Walk.

A stay at the Hard Rock also includes a "fast pass" for all of the rides at Universal (you get to go in an Express line and rarely ever wait in lines.)  The pool is tropical and beautiful.  The hotel is always playing great music.  The restaurant, "The Kitchen," is also incredible.  We always enjoy our meals.  There are also great pool bars that serve fancy cocktails and appetizers.

There is always something going on at the hotel.  There's lots of events, movie nights and live music.  I would recommend for children and adults of all ages.  My only recommendation would to avoid this hotel if you prefer a quiet setting.  This hotel is very popular and exciting.
