Hemingway's fishing expeditions from "Cayo Hueso" to the coast of Cuba are portrayed in many of his writings. The culture and cuisine of these areas are where we find our inspiration. this is one of my favorite restaurants in orlando. everytime we stay at the hyatt regency grand cypress we eat here.

they have fantastic fresh fish flown in daily and their scallops are to die for. their drinks are well made, the appys are always well done, the entrees are always delicious and the desserts, especially the alaskan key lime pie, provide a great ending to the meal.   oh yeah, the service is pretty good too:)

i highly recommend you check it out the next time you are staying in orlando.

This is some of the best food that I have had in Florida, barring of course the Cuban cafeteria style places and Checkers (mmm).  We attended this restaurant to celebrate our engagement with my fiance's family and the food was delicious, extremely well prepared, considering always that this is Florida.  I love the ambiance, simple, gorgeous Florida stye which highlights the lovely if hot and sticky nature outside.  Special, calm place. Try to get seated in one of the rooms off of the main dining floor. This place is expensive but special.

Hemingways is situated on the grounds of the Hyatt in Orlando and reservations are recommended.  However, I encountered no wait for a table and received the table I requested quickly and promptly.

Started off with drinks, the signature drink the Papa Doble was good -- yummy I would call it.  The story goes how Hemingway downed 16 in one sitting.  Though I would have liked to partake in the challenge, I knew I wouldn't make it into the double digits.  This is one I'm going to order again.

The Kobe beef was delicious.  The portion just right, cut was perfect, cooking, perfect, flavor perfect, texture perfect.  The ahi tuna was another dish which was done just right -- repeat as for the Kobe beef.

The seating can use a little work as trying to catch a table with a view of the sunset is difficult if not impossible as the foliage outside blocks the sunset over the lake by the Hyatt.

Ambient noise is just right, with louder families and children relegated to enclosed patios which completely block offending noise.  There are just enough tables in the certain areas to keep things interesting, but it is definately not too busy to pay attention to any company you have.

Desert was chocolate.  Not too much to spoil dinner, and definate was the consideration to the different textures, flavors and intensity.

Overall it was a really good experience and I would be happy to visit Hemingways again.

Enjoyed a wonderful dinner with the family.  The waiter went out of his way to make the experience terrific.  Enjoyed the scallops as an appetizer.  Shared a salad with my husband and loved the fresh ingredients.  We both orded the filet mignon.  Wow!  The kids enjoyed their meal as well.  The family ordered two different desserts to share.  Amazing as they melted in our mouth.  The best had to be the scallops which were perfectly cooked, but everything was very good.

Fantastic seafood, amazing service, and a very nice ambiance.

Our waiter was very accommodating of several dietary needs in our group  (Vegetarian, no pork, etc), and allowed us to order several items off the menu/adjusted to meet our needs.  Very friendly service all around, we really felt like honored guests.  The waiter even jumped up on a ledge to take our group picture, not once but twice!

I highly recommend them for a special occasion or even just to meet a seafood craving!  It was a nice escape from the chain dominated culture in Orlando.

I was in Orlando for a conference and hoped to eat at a couple reasonable restaurants while I was there. This restaurant's name hit my radar from a few different places and wasn't too far from my own hotel.

On a positive side, they include valet parking when you validate it at the restaurant. I also received excellent service and attention while I was there, and not the nosy bothersome kind but the friendly, don't mind talking to you kind.

But the food is where things started to fall apart, or at least not meet my expectations. The butter that came out with the bread was pale and flavorless, not something I wanted to put on top of bread. I ordered a Caesar salad, and although the lettuce was crisp and fresh, the croutons were overly stale. There was also probably a bit more dressing that I would have liked, but that's a personal preference.

My main course was salmon with black risotto. The risotto was actually the best part of the meal, though it was a little saltier than I would have preferred. The extra salt, however, balanced out the bland fish. The biggest faux pas of the evening was the overdone and dry fish.

In the end, not a great dining experience. Maybe they do shellfish better, since it dominates their menu, but I cannot go there.

The signature house Salad was great and th food well executed.  For NYE the service was good, with the exception of misplacing the reservation and doing little initially to make up for it.  A weakness at the front desk was definitely made up for by the food and attentiveness later in the evening.
The restaurant has some good views but because they lost the reservation, we were placed by the kitchen.  Our server was moving fast and friendly but was still a little over run.
We brought our own wine ($25 corkage per bottle) so I did not look at the wine menu.
The food, as previously mentioned was executed well, but not outstanding.  The peekeytoe Crab salad  was a little MAYO heavy (c'mon if you are going to copy a Jean Georges recipe, just copy it, you are are most likely not going to make it better).  Fried Oysters were very good with agreat presentation and the Black Grouper was once again prepared well but not fantastic. Overall a great menu with good execution.
I know it seem like I did not like it.  I did and always do. This is definitely a place to go for great seafood with an incredible atmosphere start to finish.  I just get critical at a certain level of price and pretense.

We planned a mini vacataion for NYE 2009 that included staying in a villa at Grand Cypress and dinner at Hemingway's.  I planned this 2 months in advance, and confirmed the reservations on my own in advance.  Well, when we arrived at 8pm, the hostess, who was obviously not trained very well in the ways of the lost art of customer service, proceeded to tell me that our reservation was actually at 7pm, and that they couldn't seat us, and that we may not be seated at all.  Needless to say, I was not a happy camper.  As a business owner and one that prides himself on going above and beyond when it comes to customer service, I was fuming.  I asked the hostess why they never called to see where we were at 7pm, since we were literally right across the street at our villa.  She said "Oh, we don't do that."  Hmm.. That's interesting.. How about a confirmation call the day before, or the day of, like most fine dinning restaurants do?  I finally had a chance to talk to someone that actually knew how to deal with an unhappy customer.  I suggested a free round of drinks, and that they seat us ASAP.  He agreed, ordered up a round of drinks, and seated us in their comfy Key West styled lounge.
Now that we have that out of the way, I can actually review the true dinning experience.  Starting with the drinks, the Key Lime Pie Martinis were the best mixed foo foo drink that I've ever tasted.
We brought in 2 bottles of wine, and were charged a $25 corkage fee/bottle... I thought it was a bit steep.
We started out with a sampling of appetizers: conbread crusted oysters, scallop dish, and crab.  I had the black grouper with truffle foam.  It was cooked perfectly!  For desert I had the coconut ice cream.  As far as the service was concerned, it was decent.  The waiter was obviously short handed and extremely rushed.  We had to remind him about missed items several times throughout the eveningt.  The atmosphere and surroundings of the grand cypress Hyatt were beautiful.  The restaurant itself is very cool, with the old Key West feel.  I will go back and give them another try  sometime soon.  It just won't be during a holiday.

Wife and I ate here trying to avoid the typical chain restaurants with crying kids.  Hemingway's was very quiet and the staff was extremely helpful and attentive.  I had the crab cakes and the snapper which tasted very fresh.  It would have gotten 5 stars but the desert didn't have that freshly made feel that the appetizer and entree had.  If I'm back in Orlando I will definitely go back.

Went here for a nice family dinner after Christmas. We've been going here for years, and even celebrated a 50th birthday there with 30 people. Sadly the place has changed, and is nothing like it used to be. Our waiter ripped us off by bringing the wrong wine, which was double the price per bottle. When we complained upon seeing the bill (an extra $160 in wine), the rude manager informed is that we "were presented the wine and accepted, and we should have known it was different". Food was boring and uninspiring, and service was dismal. We love the Grand Cypress, but won't be going back to Hemingway's.

Although the food was good, don't expect to be served in a timely manner. Three hours from sit down to finish for dinner is just unacceptable. Our experience also had significant noise issues as we were stuffed in a small room with two large parties.

I was really excited to visit this restaurant because I love Key West and I love seafood.  Unfortunately my anticipation was much more thrilling than the meal.  Don't get me wrong, this certainly isn't cafeteria fare.  But it isn't all that great either.  My crab cakes were completely forgettable, as was the salmon my wife ordered.  Really the only yummy thing was the coconut shrimp as a starter.

Do yourself a unexpected favor and stick with the cute little bar/lounge area just to the right when you walk in.  Or, better yet, visit Nine18 at the Villas of Grand Cypress (sister property of the Hyatt Grand Cypress).  That restaurant is missing the atmosphere of Hemingway's, but you won't care once you take your first bite of food.  All I can do is let you know.

Hosted a client and his wife at the upscale but very reasonable and easy going restaurant located in the Hyatt Grand Cypress, Hemingway's is a very good restaurant with attractive ambiance. Our waiter was a pro and explained that the fish is always fresh. Told us the Chef will throw out any fish that he deems to be frozen as he finds this unexceptable. I'm not sure I buy-that but whatever. I started with the cornmeal crusted oysters. Fried in crusted corn meal and substancial the oysters were well presented on a bed of salt which was poured into  the half shell. The Oysters were filled with blue cheese and crisp bacon but were not topped with chimichurri. OK appetizer, with a better presentation than taste.

Next enjoyed the Medeteranian Sea Bass - Simply outtanding. Perfectly prepared and FRESH as promised. I'm picky about fish and only order when I think I have a chance of getting FRESH and well prepared fish. They exceeded high expectations.

Everyone else enjoyed a variety of beef and fish meals.

Highly reccomend.

I had dinner at Hemingway's last weekend during the Magical dining program for the month of September.  The service & the meal was outstanding except for my entree.  I had what was supposed to be the blackened Mahi Mahi.  The Mahi Mahi had 3 grille marks on either side of it but there was no seasoning at all.  Not even salt & pepper which I added.  I don't know if the Chef forgot or what but it was very disappointing. I should have sent it back.

We love this spot.... now our 5th time here!   The service is fantastic great seafood.  The rib eye is great with a truffle sauce.  The Key Lime pie is amazing. Victor is the best server and really loves his position.  The menue recently changed and it was still delicious.

The fried green crab cake stack was layered perfectly, and next time we go we will try the red snapper!   Looked amazing.

Hemingways is truly an oasis in Lake Buena Vista's plethora of generic, quick dining eateries.  The experience starts with a pleasant walk thru beautiful gardens leading to this hidden venue. Once inside, the many windows provide views of seemingly endless natural beauty. The menu is diverse and interesting.   The ceviche was fresh and flavorful. The crab cake was the best I've had! And all priced reasonably. Will definitely by back!

Dining in Orlando may be easy for some people, but I found it very challenging. My goal was to find a non-chain restaurant that serves decent food. Not that I have anything against chain restaurants, but I wanted to try something local. Apparently, the concept of "local" does not exist in Orlando. Wtf is wrong with this town??

The hotel concierge suggested we go to Hemingway's. He said they have great sea food. Alright then, let's do this!

Located in the Hyatt Grand Cypress, Hemingway's is a decent restaurant with an upscale ambiance. We started with the cornmeal crusted oysters. Hearty oysters on the half shell crusted with corn meal, topped off with chimichurri,  blue cheese and crisp bacon. Excellent appetizer, 5 stars. The presentation was neat.

Moving on to entrees, I got the black grouper and my dining partner got the wasabi crusted tuna. My grouper was a little rich than I expected, the alba white truffle foam was a little over the top for this dish. Nevertheless, I scarfed it down in a flat 4 minutes. The crisp seared skin of grouper added a great touch to the dish. I love crispy fish skin, and this dish was perfect to my taste. The grouper is served on a bed of potatoes along with mussels and scallops. It was like a seafood explosion in my plate.

My dining companion's tuna was excellent. Creme fraiche and jasmine rice added a nice touch to the flavors.

Being the glutton that I am, I ordered the coconut ice cream stuffed with dark chocolate for dessert. It was a mound of coconut ice cream with a dark chocolate center. It was not great, the ice cream was too sweet for my taste, and there was not enough chocolate. I couldn't eat it after a few bites because it was very sweet.

Overall, it was a nice dining experience. We got to discuss some business, eat in a quiet setting, and the service was spot on. Even the maitre d came to check on us a couple of times.

BEST part of dinner: NO CHILDREN!!!
I was afraid of having to knock off screaming children, considering this is Orlando, but Hemingway's was more adult-like and offered a quiet environment to enjoy our meal and converse.

I will definitely go back to Hemingway's if I EVER make the mistake of going to Orlando.

Came here for dinner during Magical Dining Month. Service was a lil slow, but the food was good. I had the rock shrimp chowder, crab cakes, and chocolate banana fallen tower. The shrimp looked regular size in the chowder instead of like rock shrimp, which I thought was odd. Seemed like they used regular shrimp; maybe they ran out of rock shrimp that night. The crab cakes were very good, barely any filler which was great. The dessert just tasted like chocolate cake.

I generally avoid hotel-related restaurants, but I know better now.  Loved Hemingway's and would highly recommend.

The layout zig-zags and the elevation and many windows make you feel like you're in a treehouse.

I had the shrimp chowder and appetizer BBQ scallops, both extremely yum.  The rosemary cheese loaves were devoured.  The wine fans at the table were satisfied by the breadth of the wine list.

Tip: save calories for the rich, wonderful chocolate peanut butter mousse.  I can still taste it if I try very hard ...,

I visited the restaurant with a group of nine on 11/5/2013.  It's a relatively small restaurant.  Acoustics are terrible.  It was very difficult to have a conversation with people just across the table.  Food was great.  Expect small portions and high prices though.  I ordered the Mahi Mahi.  It was a fillet about 3 inches by 4 inches, served with about five mini stalks of asparagus.  Watch your receipts carefully.  They erroneously charged several other customer's orders to my account.  Simply sloppy payment handling.  Overall, it was an okay restaurant.  Would I go there again?  Probably not.

SERVICE: 5
Suzanne was awesome and everyone was friendly. Fast service with attentive staff but not annoying..

FOOD:4
Bread was incredible and made it really hard for me to resist. My dining partner had two baskets I swear.
Snapper entree was flavorful and perfectly prepared albeit a tad salty.
Swordfish was amazing and well prepared.
Crabcake had NEXT TO NO FILLER. Rare for crabcakes and man were they good.

DECOR: 3
Nice enough nautical theme I guess with nice views of the pool. Fairly standard for a hotel restaurant.

VALUE: 3
Pretty pricey. 208 for two with tip, though we did have glasses of wine.

Overall: 3
Exceptionally average. Would almost qualify for a 4, and I would recommend given the overall poor quality of Orlando dining relative to other major cities.

One of my favorite dining spots when visiting in Orlando, FL! We typically go the week before Thanksgiving and enjoy a fantastic meal every time.  The menu items are fresh and seasonal.  The chef has made a few modifications based on a request for something I had there and was happy to accommodate.  Yes, service was a little slow but since we were not in a rush and the food was superb I did not deduct any stars!
The scenery getting to the restaurant is serene and someone really likes riding the hydraulic elevator when we go. No lines for this ride!
Definitely recommend having a reservation also!

Hats off to the chefs, local catch was prepared flawlessly, great combination of flavors, wine list was easy and the recommendation was spot on, dessert was passed on because the entree was so good, was surprised at the bar while having an after dinner drink with a small sample, which was perfect. Great food, a little expensive but good sized portions. The atmosphere was horrid though. It was quite noisy but the real problem was a large table of drunks that were yelling and pounding on the table. Yes, pounding. A number of guests complained but management did nothing which is inexcusable. We went on my daughter's 18th birthday and our bill was over 200 dollars for 4 people. I was expecting ambiance a little more refined than a Hooters but I didn't get it.

They did have the most amazing, tender calamari, but I can't recommend this place to anyone unless you've done some serious drinking first.

I visited for Magical Dining with my Dad and brother. I thought the service was so-so and a little slow for the restaurant not being busy. The food was good though. I had the Longboat Key Salad to start which was great and packed with goodies like bacon and avocado. The main course of Cuban Criollo Chicken was tasty and flavorful however had too much garlic. The portion was enough to eat for two days. The creme brulee (the gluten free dessert alternative) was light and yummy and the raspberries were a nice touch. The Key West style atmosphere was pleasant and relaxing. A walk by the pool after dinner was a nice way to end our evening.

I read the reviews about Hemingway's and decided to go there for my birthday while on the road for business. Unless I am missing something I am not sure how this restaurant is getting rave reviews. Don't get me wrong, but in no way is this restaurant exceptional.
The restaurant is old and is showing wear and tear. Only one bartender on and she was soooo slow.  The kitchen took 45 minutes just to get out my salad, then another 30 for a dozen oysters.  Took about 2 hours for a light dinner.
Overall, there are better places.

Have been to a couple of parties here recently, so it deserved a review.  Hemigway's is good, but is a little long in the tooth and overpriced.  At one point it was probably a great choice, but there are so many good seafood places I have to pass to get here, it's not worth the effort.

When we have a special occasion we always make it Hemingway's.

The wait staff is very attentive, helpful and friendly. We have had Mike, David, Victor, Jeannie, and Suzanne wait on us the many time we have visited Hemingway's. They always make up feel welcome. Lindsay, the manager, always stops by to say hello and makes sure everything was great.

The chefs here really take their time to create an artistic plate, not just putting food on a plate. Which we all appreciate! From the salads to the entrees to dessert!

They have something for everyone on the menu. The crab cakes are always a must! They are the best because it's mainly jumbo lump crab and a little breading to hold it together. Unlike other restaurants that use mainly all filler and a little crab. We always get a sampler platter of appetizers that way we can try a little bit of everything. The calamari fries are thick cut and breaded perfectly. The soup is awesome...it's a rock shrimp chowder which is a little twist on chowder. The key wester salad is lovely...crispy Applewood smoked bacon, capicola, avocado, Maytag bleu cheese dressing. I am not a fan of bleu cheese but I enjoy this dressing.

We have 16 year old twins and they love coming here. One always gets a fish dish and the other one always gets steak. The fish is cut fresh daily and is cooked perfectly
The rib eye steak is a generous portion and you won't go home hungry. The chefs always put different combinations together with the entrees like sweet corn grits, fingerling potatoes, battered crispy onions, and sweet pea risotto.

When looking for a spot to celebrate a special occasion or a nice quite dinner make sure you make a reservation at Hemingway's.

Went here for a large group dinner. It was a great experience. The service was attentive and doing a great job. The acoustics of the room left quite a bit to desire. It was hard to have a regular conversation.

The food and wine was fantastic. We had a fixed menu. I had the filet mignon which was cooked to order. My table buddy had a salad that had meat in it was not ideal for a vegetarian. A few details to sort out. Overall fantastic food and great wine. The service was great, the acoustics for a big company was a challenge. Will come back for a smaller dinner to enjoy the food.

So, it was a Tuesday night with a party of 12.  I read the reviews on Yelp, prior to going.

Maybe I was influenced.  Service was friendly, but slow and inconsistent.  We are for 3 hours.  Yeah, I guess that is ok, but there was a lot of just waiting.

Appetizers were plentiful and tasty.  Oysters were very good.  Crab cakes went fast as well.   Just took so darn long form the order to be taken and for them to show up.

I had the steak.  Well prepared.  Found it interesting the server described the plate as hot, but the meat was tepid.  Taste was  great and well seasoned.

Desserts were standard fair.  No one complained about them.  Nothing surprising or interesting.

Would I go back, yes.  As long as I have the time to sit and enjoy the company of another- no worries.  If I was by myself, pass and try another opportunity.

I had a great experience here trying their magical dining month menu. The restaurant is close to downtown Disney. I met up with a group if friends to try it we had a party if six but our waiter was always attentive of all our needs. He also took special note of any allergies in the group. I can't eat shrimp and another if our party was allergic to shellfish. For magical dining month you get an appetizer, entree and desert. I chose the key wester salad, cuban criollo chicken, and peanut butter bombe. All of the portions were fairly large and I was stuffed halfway through my desert. The salad was super tasty with bits of bacon and my desert was excellent (my favorite part of the meal). It was like a giant peanut butter cup. The chicken was pretty good. It was mostly boneless and they gave you two pieces. The sauce was good but I didn't like having to deal with the skin and bones. Overall a super great deal for a excellent meal.

Merry Friendsmas! A few of us got together before the holiday for a fancy dinner here at Hemmingway's.

They sat us in a little private room. We closed the door and pumped some Christmas music.

I went into the dinner wanting the filet but then the scampi caught my eye. I asked our server which was better and he strongly recommended the scampi. Great choice. It was DELICIOUS. The truffle pasta was unbelievable.

We got a bunch of apps: The tomato mozzarella, the calamari and the french onion fondue. All three were fantastic.

For dessert we split the chocolate/peanut butter mousse dome of delightfulness and the coconut ice cream pouch. Both were heavenly.

Tried the crab cakes during Yelp's Magical Dining event! So tasty, you don't mess with a 30 year old recipe. The breading was perfect, not too much and the crab was so tender and fresh. I'll definitely be back to try these crab cakes! Maybe even during magical dining month!

Wow! I was lucky enough to come to this restaurant to celebrate my girlfriend's dad and uncle's birthday.

First, we were seated in the "glass room," which is a small little private room with glass walls. I know, original name! But the nice thing was that closing the doors shut out the noise from the restaurant and a nice private atmosphere.

The calamari appetizer was too die for. I have never tasted calamari this good. The octopus was cut perfectly and breaded in an amazing batter. And the aioli dipping sauce, forget about it. I honestly would have eaten two or three more orders of this alone.

For my main course ... the crab cakes with coleslaw ... wow! Delicious and excellently made.

Everybody at the table truly enjoyed their dinners, and not one complaint. Everything was truly seasoned perfectly to the point that no salt or pepper needed to be added. I believe a very good testament to the flavoring and prep work done in the kitchen.

The service was also very good. The upgrade to the "glass room" was courtesy of the staff at the front of the restaurant that knew birthdays were being celebrated. And our waitress was exceptional. She was very attentive and knowledgeable of the food being served. Never a long delay in between plates.

Overall an excellent dinner!

It's hard to resist the tasty offerings of Magical Dining Month at Hemingway's.  It was worth the drive out to Grand Cypress on a weeknight!

Upon arrival, the guys at the hotel lobby valet were kind enough to let me know that parking in the self-parking lot would actually get me closer to the restaurant. Then the hostess at Hemingway's provided us with the wifi password so we were free to take tons of pictures and post them on Facebook. The start of this experience was already in the positive.

Our server, Victor was awesome! He was polite, knowledgeable and very funny. He didn't pressure us to make a selection outside of the Magical Dining menu, which I appreciate.

For my starter I selected the shrimp chowder. I didn't expect to find whole shrimp embedded in the soup, but there they were. And they were very tasty morsels. The crab cakes entree was also very good. Both types were full of crab with minimal filling. The steamed asparagus was cooked just right and was not a bit stringy. Finally I closed the meal with the key lime pie tart. I like my key lime pie sweet with a touch of sour and this fit the bill.

Excellent service all around and fantastic food make this place a must return even during non-magical months.

My return visit to this awesome restaurant was even better the 2nd time around. I ate the delicious Key Lime Ceasar salad and had the Duvall Street Shrimp Scampi. The scampi had a generous portion of the most delicious Tiger Shrimp; simply melts in your mouth with fried green tomatoes.
For dessert there were so many delicious choices but I settled for the raspberry creme brulee.
The dinner was delicious and the service was attentive and wonderful. Matt was a great waiter.
When you are in Orlando and near the Hyatt you must dine at Hemingways.

Bravo Hemingway's!!! Ambiance, food, service--all IMPECCABLE! A group of 7 of us enjoyed dinner here for Christmas Eve and we were blown away. Our server, Tom, was genuine, knowledgable, (extremely) patient and kind. The seared scallops on sweet potato risotto, crab cakes, calamari, Blue Point oysters and paella were all among the very best I've ever had (and I know food). Beautiful desserts as well. Shawna, the manager, also assisted us with grace and generosity. This is by far the BEST RESTAURANT IN ORLANDO! We will be back! Thank you Hemingway's!

I absolutely adore this place!!! Def. over-priced but the service and the food really proves itself. Makes me feel a little better for paying $30.00 a dish.

I've been a handful of times so far, so I can't really name all the food I've tried, though it's   been almost half the menu (I normally go with 6 or 7 people and the menu isn't huge.)
Def. tried the thick cut calamari, the crab cakes, stone/king crab dish, grouper... And I can't recall the others.

Seriously, if you get the chance try this place out!!! I can't wait to return :))))

First trip here and it was OK.  To start the hostess was less than accommodating because we arrived 10 min before our reservation.  We also noted this response to each group after our arrival as well.  BTW we had reservation at 1800hrs which is the first seating.  The service was ok, the food was ok, and the establishment itself was ok.  For the money there are many more places I would rather go.

Have eaten here for 20+ years. Service is good and atmosphere and views great. Unfortunately, food is just average. Got the stuffed lobster and it was mushy and not warm enough. My mother got the salmon and it was undercooked and bland. For the price it just isn't worth it.

Reservations for a holiday brunch can be hard to come by, so we were extremely lucky to score reservations at Hemingway's just a couple days before Easter. They only offer brunch on holidays and from what we saw they really seemed to go all out.

The buffet was decorated for Easter with candy peeps, chocolate eggs, etc. The Easter Bunny was roaming around the dining room. It was cute.

Don't let the holiday cute fool you though, this is a fancy buffet. There were several stations set up with cheeses, seafood, salmon and sushi, salads, breads, and desserts.

The seafood station was noteworthy. There were three kinds of caviar, shrimp, oysters, and crab claws. I was in heaven. My only gripe was all they offered with the oysters was lemon and cocktail sauce. I'm more of a mignonette sauce kind of girl. But the oysters were still good (and I ate a bunch, trying to get my money's worth.)

With the buffet came your choice of entrees. At our table we tried the Ricotta Pancakes, Chicken Marsala, Lamb Osso Buco, Lobster Crusted Sea Bass, Barbecue Rubbed Broiled Mahi, and Seared Beef Medallion. (OK, so we tried ALL of the options.)

The favorite at our table was the sea bass. The lamb was a massive portion and very good. My daughters both ordered the ricotta pancakes and they were good, but a little dry. We asked for extra syrup with them and that really helped. I had the Mahi and it was fine, but I loved the grits that it was served with. So yummy!

Service was very good. Our server, Mike was always there when we needed him.

Overall it was a great experience. We are going to go back for Mother's Day brunch (make your reservations now!)

I feel like the price is high... but live it up and drink all the mimosas you can... I honestly was full for most of the day after, so it was a bit of a splurge but it was worth it.

Gorgeous restaurant inside the Grand Cypress Hyatt Regency, definitely the place to celebrate a meal. The staff are a well oiled machine, each one briefed on their tables without it seeming forced. The manager remembers people (my surprise 2 days later when he greeted me while passing him at the pool!). The food is beautifully presented and I recommend the crab cakes and the Shrimp Scampi, they are the best things on the menu. Desserts range from refreshing to downright decadent. We had two meals there, the day after we arrived and then on Christmas Day, both times were busy and yet it all seemed to be relaxed. The air conditioning can be a little cold in there, but nothing that detracted from the meal.

Hemingway's is one of the few restaurants in the Orlando area that I would drive 1/2 hour to dine at.  I had been here once before for a Yelp Elite event last year. When Magical Dining approached, I decided to plan a mid week dinner with some friends and made a reservation on Opentable.  I did call the number on the site a few days before to find out the parking situation. The person who answered didn't seem to have a clue and had to put me on hold to ask. And then when I asked her how much valet was , she had to put me on hold again.  That is basic information that should be on hand for the person answering the phones.     We were not told that there was construction going on in the hotel but , thankfully, a friend who arrived at the restaurant early gave me the heads up to self park and that it was actually closer to the restaurant.

Our dining experience was wonderful from beginning to end. The restaurant decor is very "Old Florida" but in no way dated.  I was part of a group of 6 and our waiter took great care of us. He referred to me as Ms. from beginning to end and I thought it was cute and soon became a running joke among friends. Most of us started with cocktails/wine. I decided to go with the signature cocktail, Papa Doble. It was a fruity concoction. Tasted like I was on vacation.   We were given regular menus but I had to ask for copies of the Magical Dining menus. The 3 course meals were such an excellent value. Most of the prix course menu were seafood dishes but there was a chicken entrée thrown in.    I went with the Florida rock shrimp chowder as my first course- Zellwood sweet corn, potato and black pepper in a thick, hearty soup that didn't disappoint.  It went well with the complimentary bread and butter on the table. I would also like to mention how careful our waiter was about noting any shellfish allergies that some of my friends had. He asked each and every one of us when taking our order so that the kitchen would be careful when plating dishes.   For my entrée, I decided to go with the Duvall Street shrimp scampi. According to the menu, Ernest Hemingway founded the "Royal Order of Shrimp eaters" in 1948 in Havana, Cuba. This is Hemingway's take on the classic with jumbo tiger shrimp, a bundle of pappardelle pasta in the center of the dish, fried green tomatoes(!!) and a garlic wine butter sauce. Fellow Elite Yelper Meghan R and I were both in awe of this dish. Beautiful and delicious!  And I was pretty impressed how perfectly crispy the fried green tomatoes were.

I was pretty full when it came time to pick a dessert but that was an easy choice. I had to go with the theme meaning the key lime tart!  I couldn't believe how large the serving was and what pretty plating!  This restaurant does not skimp in portions , not even for Magical Dining month.   I took a few bites but had to throw in the towel and ask for it to be boxed up.

This meal was oh so glorious and the service was spectacular. It wasn't fancy and pretentious either which I appreciated.  Probably one of the best overall experiences in a restaurant that I've ever had.  I will always have fond memories of this restaurant and hope to bring my husband back soon!

It's easy to imagine you're in Key West, only the food is far superior!!!

The restaurant is designed to replicate a Conch House and you get that Key West kind of vibe throughout each room. The views are beautiful and the lush tropical trees & plants add even more to the atmosphere.

From the moment you walk in you are treated royally by everyone even referring to you by name. Table service....well, it's classy. My server Thomas was spot on with menu knowledge, great service (without hovering), professionalism and over all information. It could not get any better.

Food:

Crab Cakes: They could not be any more perfect unless the crab was caught that day. These are the best I've had in the state as there were no fillers at all...just pure goodness. Add to that they are nestled on a bed of coconut grits and topped with a corn salsa and it's a recipe for perfection.
Rock Shrimp Chowder: A decent sized cup of chowder that has a very good amount of rock shrimp in it. Definitely filling.
Tiger Shrimp Scampi: This is a misnomer as it's not a typical scampi and there is so much more to it. It's a tomato based coulis topped w/4 portions of fried green tomatoes. The 4 jumbo tiger shrimp are on each portion of the tomatoes and in the middle is pappardelle all rolled up topped w/truffle oil and garlic slivers. Who ever designed this item is pure genius.
Peanut Butter Bomba: A sphere of frozen peanut better mousse covered in chocolate ganache is for those with a definite sweet tooth. It's served with a bit of fresh fruit to cut through the sweetness.

Try to take advantage of their Magical Dining Month at an incredible value of 3 courses for $33. If not their menu is still reasonably priced but remember to make reservations through Open Table.

I'm so glad Hemingway's participated in MDM because if they have not, then I probably would have never heard of them. Living on the east side of Orlando, I have close access to some really awesome restaurants. So, for me to venture off to the area of Mouse House for dinner is really rare.  Hemingway's will now be an exception to that statement.

I made reservations for Saturday night and was seated shortly after arrival. We were seated in the main dining room near the open kitchen. I was amazed to see how that small kitchen was the same kitchen used to prepare everyone's meals! Those chefs really run a tight space, literally!

We took our time looking over the menus and decided to order the calamari, Key Wester salad, chowder, crab cake entree, shrimp scampi, and the 2 desserts. The wine selection was part of the menu, but the cocktails were listed on a separate one. I requested the cocktail list and immediately the Cypress Punch caught my eye. The punch was a perfect drink to keep me going for the duration of my dinner!

Our courses were spaced out perfectly so we were able to enjoy our dinner at a leisurely pace. Our meal started off with these amazing asiago rolls with some whipped butter. Next, was our calamari appetizer, which was surprisingly tender! This dish was easily our favorite calamari app ever! My chowder was too rich and sweet for my taste so I gladly gave it to my bf. I think either the corn was really that sweet or my taste buds were off.  The crab cakes were more like perfectly rounded mounds of crab meat! My shrimp scampi had 4 huge shrimps, fried green tomatoes, and a small roll of papperdelle.

Our server was nice, but forgetful. I think he was overwhelmed with his section because he seemed all over the place. In the end of our meal, we surrendered our plate and asked for our leftovers to be boxed. We were so full that we didn't even attempt dessert and asked for it to be packed.

All in all, it was an enjoyable evening. YAY for awesome dinners!

I LOVE this place! It is a happening spot for vacations and weekends so make sure to book a little earlier in the evening or a little later to miss the rush. The crab cakes are the best around, their seafood and steak are top of the line, their shrimp is amazing, BEST OYSTERS EVER, AND don't leave without a rum runner and one of their fine deserts. If you are a cat lover, you can walk out back of the restaurant and meet some of their healthy (and well fed kitty cats) that live a luxurious life around the grounds of the resort. Walk the pool, grotto, waterfalls and suspension bridge under a starry night, and enjoy a cigar and after dinner cocktail with an incredible view!

Best crab cakes ever!  I had crab cakes in san francisco, jacksonville, napa, new york city, etc., and none of these places can come close to these crab cakes. It was full of crabs and less bread. they weren't overcooked or undercooked. Just right.  I love the decoration.  The view was nice, oversaw the island lake.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my time there.  Was very pleasant.  Did not feel rush to order, eat, and leave.  Had a relaxing dinner.  Was expensive, but the prices were well worth it.

I came with my fiancee for an early birthday dinner.  The setting of the restaurant is nice but casual at the same time.

We decided to go with the magical dining month menu and ordered an additional appetizer, red snapper ceviche, off the main menu.

The red snapper ceviche was more of a salsa with raw red snapper.  Not your traditional ceviche, but it worked really well. It was served with thin plantains to eat with the ceviche.

Fiancee's Dishes:
Key Wester Salad
Shrimp Scampi - Served with fried green tomatoes and thin sweet potato shoestring fries.
Key Lime Tart

Mine:
Florida Rock Shrimp Chowder
Crab Cakes - The potatoes could have been seasoned a bit more, but everything else was great. The crab cakes are full of lump crab meat and don't have much filling, if any.
Peanut Butter Bombe - The  chocolate ganache on top was very rich.

Overall everything was great from the food to service.

We went to dinner with some old friends. This place was a little pricey, but turned out  to be well with the price. We started out with the the thick cut calamari. We are very picky when it comes to this appetizer, most places have too much breading and not enough calamari...no issues with that at Hemingway's!!! It had the perfect combination of the two, accompanied by great flavor. My wife ordered the Diver Scallops over sweet pea risotto. She was so happy with her selection that she took tiny bites to savor their deliciousness. She has actually mentioned several times that she would like to return for another run at the scallops. As for me I selected the Duvall Street Shrimp Scampi and WOW was I happy with the selection! The shrimp was superb and extremely fresh! If you want to take your date to a great romantic place...this is it!!

Some of my friends decided to visit several restaurants for Visit Orlando's Magical Dining Month.  The first of these restaurants was Hemingway's, which is located in the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress.  Most of us had been there before for a Yelp event the previous year.  The menu looked delicious, so we were all excited to dine there again.

First up, the matter of drinks!  I'd tried the Papa Doble during the Yelp event and loved it so much that I ordered it again.

I briefly checked out the menu, but I already knew what I wanted.

We started off with a bread selection (and I actually ate it!  The top was onion-y flavored I think!)

Next was the appetizer.  I had the Florida Rock Shrimp Chowder which is Zellwood sweet corn, diced potato, cracked black pepper, crispy potato.  MMM!  So good!  I only wish there had been more shrimp in it.

Then the main entrée...Hemingway's "Cayo Hueso" Crab Cakes--two of their famous recipe crab cakes, local sweet corn coconut grits, corn salsa & steamed asparagus.  The crab cakes are what I remember most from the Yelp event.  I couldn't get enough of them!  And tonight was no different!  The crab cakes were delicious!  I'm not a fan of coconut so I didn't particularly like (nor eat more than a few bites) of the grits.  I should have asked for mashed potatoes or something.  But those crab cakes.  I will get those EVERY.  SINGLE.  TIME!  (although a few of the girls got the shrimp scampi and the shrimp were HUGE!!!)

For dessert, I was one of the few who didn't order the Key Lime Pie (I don't like tart things).  Instead, I got the Peanut Butter Bombe.  It was a house made peanut butter mousse, cookie crust, chocolate ganache, with peanut butter coulis. It tasted like a giant Reeces Peanut Butter Cup.  I devoured it!  And proceeded to look around and see that all the other girls only ate half of their desserts and were taking it home.  #I'mAPig

Hemingways was such a great choice!  If you love seafood,I  definitely suggest it!

The view can be amazing - like being in Hawaii or the Keys. The food is mediocre at best. Conch soup had been cooking too long, Prosecco was sweet, scallops were cold and the key lime pie did not seem fresh. Should have been a 2 star but my waiter was beyond good, very attentive and all around good.

My wife and I had a wonderful dinner at Hemingway's tonight and I highly recommend it to all you Yelper's.

My wife ordered the Cuban Chicken which was cooked perfectly. Very moist and tender inside with just a little "crispness" to the skin.

Our very professional waiter Tom steered me towards the seared Ahi Tuna and it was awesome!! It had been flown in fresh that morning and I could cut it with a fork. Great call Tom, thank you.

Overall this is a top notch restaurant with top notch staff serving good quality food. Since Tom gave my wife a free class of wine our bill was only $70.00. You can't beat that.

I guess I'm what you'd call a long-time customer since I've been going here for almost 30 years. It's a magical little oasis outside the Grand Cypress hotel, completely surrounded (and high above) the rock work waterfalls that feed the elaborate pools. Every room is essentially a glassed in veranda, and one is screened in for those balmy evenings.

The food is reliable and tasty, and the service is friendly and accommodating.

Over the years many menu items have changed, but one constant has been my favorite salad, the Key Wester, and complex combination of a mild blue cheese dressing, ham, bacon, a few olives, and other goodies. Highly recommended.

Walk past a little waterfall for steak and seafood!

Really enjoyed Hemingway's at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress. First, the decor is beautiful with wood, glass, and that Florida vibe going. Second, the apps were a hit around our table. While I thought the calamari and shrimp dishes were only okay, my colleagues couldn't get enough. They especially raved about the calamari being a great balance of breading and flavor, with the sauce giving a nice added mix of sweetness. My tastes were in the minority.

Next, the main entrees were superb. My t-bone was cooked perfectly and was scrumptious. The other folks at our table commented that their bass, filet mignon, and crab cakes were marvelous.

Service was good. Not as stellar as I would have expected, but way better than your average sit-down. They timed courses well and didn't let us go empty on drinks for too long.

We were so stuffed that none of us has space for dessert!

Definitely will visit again, on my next stay...
