This is a 3 star hotel, but the location is super. It is right on the train line (both of them) and is within walking distance of the ripley's and the fort, and even the shops. Staff was courteous and friendly, but maintenance is not there in the evening and night. We found our phone pulled out of the wall and it wasn't fixed until mid morning the next day. Breakfast was ok. Facility was clean. But if you want wifi, forget it. We were in the room right over the desk lobby, and signal was very weak, and available only about 5 percent of the time -- it was luck to have a signal for 5 consecutive minutes, and then you could spend a long time trying to get it back -- I usually gave up after many failures. No one in the evening had access to the router to try to reboot it

I think one of the best places to stay in the City. It's near everything and there is no need to drive and pay for parking in the city. The rooms are always clean and well stocked. The pool is clean and the staff is very friendly.
After staying at this location the past umpteen times I feel like they treat us like family. Also a plus is free wi-fi, in the office the coffee flows till 10pm. IN the morning they have breakfast till 10am, and as many little coffee pods as you can ask for.
Downside, no in-room movies, or HBO. Stuck watching very basic cable till the wee hours if you don't bring a portable dvd player.

One of the biggest reasons we chose this motel was the proximity to the Historic attractions. The other big draw was free breakfast. Turns out that the location is good, but the breakfast is not.
The area available for breakfast is TINY. I felt like I was taking tea in a miniature playhouse with seven of my closest friends and neighbors from the other rooms. The selections for breakfast are awful, with the best thing going being the waffle maker. Unfortunately, the other customers are waiting in a tiny little line in the tiny little room to use the waffle iron.
The parking lot next to the pool is very small and difficult to maneuver in. (although it is bigger than the breakfast room).
Overall, this place will do. Next time I visit St. Augustine, though, I'll be looking for something better, unless this location has some REALLY special deals going on.

1. Walking distance to everything downtown, only a couple of blocks from Castillo and shops.
2. Room was clean and as expected of a Best Western
3. Front desk service was friendly
4. Free wi-fi
1. We were in front of the pool and kids were noisy early in the morning.
2. Smokers not smoking in the room congregated outside the pool deck which was outside our room.
3. Breakfast was OK, had a waffle maker and some french toast in a pack that could be toasted but no hot items (I think we got spoiled in Provo, UT)
4. Pool area was very small and hard to maneuver around

Reasonably priced, and only a block away from the touristy stuffs. Plus their newly remodeled rooms (2013) are clean and comfortable. Would stay here again.

Stayed here for 4 nights. Clean room. Very close to the tourist attractions. Nice pool. Great high speed wifi (most of the time). Only negative thing was the tap water smelled pretty awful...had a sewer stench. I'm not one who usually buys bottle water, but I certainly did during my stay here. Regardless, I really liked this hotel and would certainly stay here again if I came back to St. Augustine.

Where do I begin?
Okay, we arrived around 4:30 P.M. on Thursday, and were greeted by the manager and desk clerk. They were both very outgoing and friendly, and promptly got us to our room. The manager explained that the hotel is newly renovated and painted and that there is a residual paint odor. When we arrived at our room, he was correct, Very strong smell from a freshly painted door...oil based paint, yuck, but he was upfront about it. The room was in Perfect order, very clean. After some time we acclimated to the paint smell. BTW, the man who painted all of the doors there is a Real Artist...beautiful work. All went well that evening.
8:45 a.m. the wonderful sound of a 2 cycle gas blower right in front of our room, but, we needed to get up and get our day underway anyhow. Next thought...COFFEE!
I head down to the lobby to grab a couple cups of luscious hot "C", walked up to a coffee "machine", placed my cup under the spout, poured and out comes Light Brown Coffee Colored Water!! WOW!
I spoke to the manager about it and his reply was; "Yeah, that's the way it is. I don't drink that stuff either. I have a coffee maker in my office that I use". I couldn't believe it!
So I asked, where can I find a REAL cup of coffee? Reply: " Well, there's a Dunkin' Doughnuts about a mile up the road". Let me just say this: I was rudely awakened, NEEDED, NEEDED a cup of coffee and THIS is what I get???
We stumbled out the door in a surreal manner, staggered down the sidewalk, and LUCKILY, right across San Marco Blvd., is a Very Nice french pastry shop with REAL coffee.
Okay, so that was that...end of dilemma.
We went for a walk in the historic district and had a great time.
We came back a little later thinking we would relax and go online for a bit...NOT!
During our entire 2 day stay (too long ), the internet did not work properly.
I again, spoke with the manager and his reply was..as if canned.." Yeah, sometimes it's like that", but he did reset it.
The ladies at the front desk were very apologetic after the next few times, and I believe that they did their best with what they had to work with, which was basically, nothing.
We stay at Best Western quite a bit, and were staying this time on points earned from previous stays.
I WILL say this, the general manager contacted us after hearing of our dis-satisfaction, and returned the points from the previous night's stay.
The staff there are very courteous and try very hard to make your stay a pleasant one. We were basically told that the issue with the coffee machine was "How it is" and apparently they have no intention of changing that, so be warned...plan on getting your coffee elsewhere, unless you like hot water with a splash of coffee.
SECURITY ALERT!!! There is a gap in the curtains at this hotel. I noticed this when walking to our room; when someone is walking along the walkway ( upstairs AND downstairs), they can see basically everything in your room. There is a mirror which is perfectly located so that a person can look into the gap of the curtain and into the mirror and get a full position angle of the bed....NOT GOOD!
I brought this to the attention of the night clerk on Friday night. She said she was noting it. Be sure to clamp your curtain so as to avoid this security breach.
Again, the staff was awesome and the rooms clean. One can hope for some good coffee in the future, and a change in the attitude of the manager because in MY opinion....When there is an issue, That's just NOT how it is.

The only saving grace to this hotel is location and cleanliness of the rooms. They advertised free wifi and upon arriving the wifi was not working. They said they would get it fixed and never did. We had to take cold showers because they claimed they did not have an adequate water supply for a full house!! The only thing they were able to do for us was waive the 5$ daily parking fee. One of the worst hotel stays ever, which says a lot for us because we travel the country for 6-10 months out of the year staying in many different hotels.

If you're looking for a place with a bed and a central location, all for one low & reasonable cost in St. Augustine then this is your place. This review gets 4 stars simply for being in the right place and doing the simple things well.
You won't get luxury but your wallet will thank you for it. This place is right across the street from Ripleys and the tourism trams. Down the street within walking distance you have the Fountain of Youth to your left and the Fort and storefronts to your right.
There is a complimentary breakfast. Nothing to brag about but it will save you from walking far and can do the trick if you're in a pinch or not too picky. Waffle machine, yogurt, cereal, etc.
Biggest complaint? Parking. The lot is small and kinda hard to find. If you're coming past the Fountain of Youth into St. Augustine towards the BW and take a right at the light (to the BW), you'll probably think you should pull into the lot immediately to your right after you turn. Don't. Even though there is a BIG BW sign there, it's actually the tourism center. Go down the road a short distance and you'll see the BW on your right. Weird sign placement.
