    Exactly what you'd expect from a Days Inn-- a decent, clean, affordable place to stay for the night.  A non-smoking room with two double beds cost us $99 a night.  My friend and I checked here after dinner and a stroll in historic St. Augustine.  We stopped at two separate Best Westerns closer to the historic area but they were both completely booked for the night.  

    It's within a 10 minute drive to the historic area, the manager at the front desk we polite, the room was clean, there was free Wi-fi and the beds were comfortable.

    This place is awful. Not because of the rooms but the things they let happen. At 2:00 the people above us has their cars music on the max with loud bass. These stupid guys started banging on our window then when we let our dog out someone came and pissed right next to him. Then in our laundry someone put their dirty boxers in with it! This is only one night getting in at 7:30!!!!

    I'd choose somewhere else given the chance, mainly because it was overpriced for the room condition.  The floors and sheets were clean and the bed was comfortable, but there were some pretty gross things about it.  The room smelled musty.  The door stuck so badly we had to kick it in.  The coffee maker was disgusting, as were the light switches - embedded dirt.  Floor boards were falling apart.  Wifi was slow, and the vending machine on one side of the place had nothing in it.  I'm not picky, but for this price ($100) I expected a lot more.  Everything else was full but next time I will drive a ways out to go somewhere else.

    Questionable... Ants, maybe a roach, dirty, dirty dirty!  Hard to tell if it was New Year's Eve fireworks or gun shots... I saw a dope needle on the sidewalk.  But it's cheap and close....about a 10-15 minute walk to historic downtown.  Will definitely pay more next time to stay elsewhere....never staying here again.

    This place needs a deep cleaning. The room smelled moldy. The room was humid and the carpet disgusting. The bathroom was not very clean and did not smell good. I've stayed at other days inn and never had such a bad experience. I brought the issues up to management and was told I could not be moved to another room. I went to a neighboring La Quinta booked a room and had a much better experience. I was so upset by the way I was treated by the days in management that I went ahead me called corporate. They said they would take note of it but the days inn are independently owned and they could not do much for me. I them went ahead and called my credit card explained what was going on and they agreed to declined payment to the days inn. I do not suggest anyone stay there. There are other better hotels in the same area for the same price.

    This place could use a good power-washing.

    For the money (we paid $65) it wasn't a bad place to stay. It just wasn't very nice. Call me crazy, but I think a hotel can be inexpensive and still be nice. The outside door to our room seriously needed to be repainted. The shower (in the VERY small bathroom) at some point had been repaired and the caulk job was poorly done. There was gum stuck to the carpet near our bed.

    The cable, attached to the bulky, out-dated TV had many channels that were out of service or had a picture but no sound.

    On the upside, the pool area was nice, and having a Denny's on site was a bonus. (We ate there and the food was pretty good.) Overall I give our stay a resounding, "just barely ok."

    Booked off Priceline. Expected something worth the over $100 I paid to stay, but found the room worse than a no star hotel. Not only is the room rundown and the bed lumpy and noisy, the bathroom and sink had hair all over, near the coffee maker, on the bathtub (which had caulk and yellow stains all over) and black hairs on the bath towels. Dusty in a lot of spots, dark and muggy like a jail cell, cold tile floors with chips in them, messy plywood instead of an actual cupboard on the front of the sink, and horrible lumpy pillows. I'd say they should be paying me to stay in this room for a night. I'm scared to even look under the bed...

    The beds in this place are so bad that we felt like we were trying to sleep on something left over from the Spanish Inquisition.  Hard, lump, broken down.  The shower got water on everything but the person trying to take a shower, I've had better showers in a truck stop than we had here.  For the price they ought to at least have some kind of free breakfast.  We stayed there during the 2014 Pirate Gathering and the only good thing about it was its proximity to a great place for morning coffee, City Coffee which is right across the street from them.  I will never stay there again.

    The night before coming to St Augustine (for the first time) I began to search for places to stay (near or in historic district) and I began to think either there is a special event going on or this is a very popular town... because I can't find a room.  I was able to find rooms by a couple of Interstate 95 exits (15 - 20 miles away)... no thanks.

    Turns out there was a special event going one which is why it was so hard to find a hotel room in the historic district;  Flagler College was having their graduation ceremonies that same weekend.

    I ended up finding a room on the AMEX travel website for the Days Inn Historic Downtown.  Searching info on the hotel didn't scare me off but then again it certainly didn't excite me either.  Then again this was less than a mile from the action so I rolled the dice.  And oh boy, did I "crap" out.

    Entered the lobby for check-in... other than it looking a bit dated, it was clean and the two girls at the front desk were helpful, friendly and offered to be available if  had any questions or concerns or needed any recommendations.

    The room wasn't terrible but then again I was just hoping the room is mold and bed bug free.  Of course the traditional musty smell (like many of these old hotels) was present.  Basically it was a typical room like any other older Days Inn.

    If I stopped here I'd rate them a 3 star (keeping in mind 3 stars is not bad;  after all it is "A-OK")... unfortunately there is a but in there that dropped me to a 2 star and I think my 2 star is being generous.

    My issue had to do with an outside stairway near out 2nd floor room.  This hotel is an old style hotel with no interior hallways (all room doors are exposed to the outside).  After I turned in the keys and checked out, I returned to the room, grabbed my bags and shut the door behind me.  When we turned a corner to enter the stairwell there was a lot of water accumulated at the top of the stairs... And yes, I lost my footing and yes, I fell down the stairs.  Luckily my good reflexes and with my quick thinking I grabbed a rail before any real bodily damaged occurred (though one of my bags did get a little wet).  I was shaken up but other than uneasy nerves and embarrassment I wasn't injured so I left.  I did noticed they had one of those yellow warning signs but of course it was off to the side and not noticeable coming around the corner to the stairs.  

    In hindsight, I should've told the clerk on-duty so an hour later I decided to call and let them know... not for a discount, not for a refund, not to threaten a lawsuit... I called so they could prevent someone else from getting injured or worse yet killed (which is not far-fetched).  I got the manager and he attitude was SHOCKING... took no responsibility and would not acknowledge anything wrong.  He just said I should've come in if I had a problem.  I agreed but take care of the problem, put a better sign out, put more than one sign, put a warning at the bottom of the stairs too, find out why the water was there in the first place, just do something.  He was just defensive and nonchalant of the whole situation.  Terrible manager.

    We've stayed in other Days Inns before. This was by far the worst. Sign out front said "new look". That meant a fresh coat of paint, poorly done. Paint splatters all over fixtures, light switch covers were dingy and didn't cover holes in wall. Shower needed complete replacing, but only had a patch job. Price for one night exceeded the appearance and quality. Don't expect a lot of you do stay here. You can put lipstick on a pig. But, it's still a pig. Front desk staff were meh. Didn't even ask how our stay was when checking out.

    So good so far. Friendly staff. Melinda greeted us.

    However, it pretty much went downhill from there. The location is pretty cool and located next to a coffee shop and really not too far from downtown. We parked at a parking deck downtown and it was just as far to walk to downtown from the deck as it would have been to just walk from the motel to the deck. We could have saved ourselves some money I guess.

    The king-size bed is "like our old bed" as my wife put it and that means she did not like it. She also does not like that the sheets do not fit very well. I have to agree. They keep coming off the bed and it's hard to get them go back on. I think they are perhaps a size too small.

    The front desk has a sign that states there is a safe in the room and a dollar is added to the room fee for this "convenience" because they have had break ins before. There is no gym on the premises in case you didn't look very hard.

    There is no breakfast because there is seriously a Denny's restaurant in the motel right by the pool. It is so right by the pool that the diners get a view of the pool. I was not happy about that. I don't want people eating and watching me swim and I don't want to eat and watch people swim. I don't understand why this was a good idea. It just makes me think some old pervert was thinking about watching some girls or something while he enjoyed his bacon and pancakes. Really creepy...

    On top of this there was a large group of young people (think about 9-12 years old) all here on charter buses. They were swarming the parking lot when we returned and all in the way. They were all by the pool at 9:30 at night. You could hear them going up and down the outside hallway at night.

    Just not a great experience thus far. The staff are all friendly still, but there are a lot of irritating things about this motel. There is a pretty nice coffee shop next door, but the place is also pretty expensive.

    The internet is pretty awful. The first night we were here it was very, very laggy and it is not secured at all.

    The motel is located within walking distance of downtown, but you can expect a pretty decent hike.

    Having spent years in the hotel business I know what it takes to run a hotel and how hard it is and it is very unlike me to write bad things about hotels because I know first hand that "things happen" and I am extremely forgiving.  This hotel was just about the most disgusting hotel I have ever been to in more ways than one.

    I'm not going to write a book so here are my issues:
    -Clerk wrote down my whole credit card number on registration paperwork (major no-no and total breach of security procedures)
    -Seedy clientele
    -Room was filthy trash from previous guest, floor not vacuumed, sticky stuff, just gross
    -BLOOD ON THE MATTRESS!!!!
    -Called to complain to the manager, no response, called corporate, no response

    Don't let them ruin your vacation...

    The bad reviews here are not very fair. It is clean and despite being close to the road it is quiet. Staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms must have been recently remodeled because they are more modern than the images suggest. I would stay here again, for sure.
