Location is perfect.  Beach a few steps away, hotel pool and patio are  perfect for the sunset views.  Shopping and restaurants a short walk.

Been staying here since 1983. It's an older hotel but they have updated rooms, lobby and elevators.  Still a GREAT location. Across from beach and minutes walk to St. Armand's Circle.

This hotel needs serious updating. Everything is old and worn out. The sink in our room stank of wet hair in the drain. The ac is an old wall unit that rattled and barely kept the room cool. Take a pass on this place unless you're a spring breaker.

The 2 stars are for the location and views. It is also a quick walk to St. Armand's Circle which has great shops and restaurants (Columbia and Tommy Bahama's just to name a couple).  This hotel NEEDS updating. The owner needs to understand that to make money you need to spend money. The bathroom tile was falling apart and painted different colors.  We had multiple problems with the key cards to our room. The balcony was very hard to open. The restaurant on the 7th floor smells and looks old. The tiki bar at the pool is sad. I would not stay here again. Stay at the Lido Beach Resort or if you are looking for Holiday Inn stay at the Clearwater Beach Holiday Inn instead.

You know what you are getting with a Holiday Inn, which is why I booked it for this business trip.  The rooms are more open than most and quite clean for a beach hotel.

The common areas do have sand and what not, but its a beach hotel...  If you are looking for a crowne plaza or ritz buck up and pay for it or be reasonable in expectations.

It would be average, but since its in this area, it gets an extra star from me.

I've been coming to this hotel for a while and it's starting to show its age. While this hotel is right on the beach and steps from St. Armand's Circle, that's not enough to make up for the old, worn interior and the lack of cleanliness. On our most recent visit, there were numerous hairs in the shower and sheets before we even used them. There was also some dirt (crumbs, something?) on the sink. The past two times we've stayed, our room had a bad smell when we arrived, like sewage. The pillows are horrible, lumpy messes. Another pet peeve is the fact that the hotel bar is only open until 9, which seems quite early for vacationing beach-goers. However, the staff has always been very helpful and friendly. So I'm giving two stars for the staff and the location, which really can't be beat.

Not a bad stay for one night, probably should be only $99 a night in off-season, but you are paying for the view/balcony if you chose that side of the hotel. There was some water issue during our stay, but that turned out well because they provide unlimited bottled water. That was nice, but who the heck drinks tap water anymore. Decent view of sunset from bar which does close way too early and free beach towels are nice touch. You probably can walk to the bars if necessary. Beds were fine and they only have two queen beds on 2nd floor, but despite thinking that was too low to see the Gulf, it wasn't and the view was great.

Booked a room with a view for one night and was very impressed! Our view is breathtaking, the staff is great, and I am very pleased! This will be a hotel for us in the future!

This place gets 4 stars for the food!  3 stars for the hotel.  It is in need of some updating and remodeling, but it's on the beach and walkable to St Armand's Circle.
The staff was nice and helpful and did a great job.  They also have a small lobby/pool bar, which gets food from the upstairs kitchen.

Speaking of the food, it was outstanding.  I stayed there the first weekend of their new menu, and wow!  They had great pizza, and I'm a pizza snob.  It was really, really good and made on site.
You have to try  the pulled pork sandwich, it's sooo yummy.  Just great!  recommend.
And the burgers were great too!  Delicious sides and fries.  Just wonderful.

I really like this area of Florida and St Armand's Key has some great restaurants.  Which I enjoyed this time too.  But, I kept going back to the Holiday Inn for their food!

    Give them a try!

I understand that this hotel can charge what it does based on its location.

However, my very large room was.... shoddy. That's the best word I can find for it. I was traveling on business, so perhaps some folks that are just visiting the beach find it to be nice. I'll look for other lodging next time.

Nice hotel! The price wasn't bad for being across from the beach! The room was small but it was clean and comfortable and it had a little balcony that we enjoyed. We had a fridge but no microwave.

We just ate a terrific breakfast on the 7th floor of the Holiday Inn across the street from Lido Beach.
We had there asparagus and cheese egg omelette with a side of fresh slices of honey dew ,cantaloupe and pineapple. The food was very good, but the view of the beach and ocean is fantastic.
We had walk from south lido to Armand Circle and discovered the only place to eat breakfast was the Blue Dolphin which had a long line to get in. We ate there yesterday and it was good, but for my money the Holiday Inn is much better and easy to get in. Have not tried dinner there but hopefully it is just as good.
    The service was also terrific.

It is very conveniently located in walking distance to St Armand's and across the street from the beach (but not right on it like some hotels south in Lido Key). The food is pretty good here but the rooms are showing their age and as a result could be more appealing. That said we enjoyed it here and the location makes it interesting. I understand that in June 2013 they will start to remodel the rooms, one section at a time. That is certainly needed.

    Worn.  Beat.  Shoddy.

Wonderful personality from the people behind the front desk.  I particularly love how they mean mug the guests.  Makes me feel welcome.

Carpet is filthy throughout the hotel.  Unidentifiable stains line the hallways and are tastefully placed throughout guest rooms.  Bathrooms sinks smell like a sewage treatment facility when the water is run.  If you like taking baths, you'll be right at home here since the drains in the showers don't work.

Definitely recommended for those interested in voyeurism as you can hear everything--down to people snoring--through the paper thin walls.  I leave the rest to your imagination.

The only positive about this hotel is the proximity to the beach.

We had a group of 8 of us from Target headquarters in Minneapolis down to Sarasota to visit some Target stores. We showed up at the Hotel and everyone was checked in quickly.

They are right across from the beach and we sat in the gulf for a couple hours every day after about 10 hour days. The water was like 80 degrees and perfect.

The room was clean and perfect every day after I returned home after a long day traveling to 3 stores a day.

They had a ton of channels on the TV, it would have been nice if every room had a refrigerator, but that is a small complaint.

The pool was nice, but could have used more chairs around the tables as we were constantly looking for them with a large group.

The offered free beach towels and beach chairs for those who wanted them, which was another big plus.

They had a lot of good beers on tap as well and good happy hour specials. $3 taps.

They also had wi-fi, which was great to do work emails after the day was over.

Overall, for the price, I would be back here in a second. No big frills, but it was great for a beach hotel that you aren't going to be in the room too much.

The staff here is very accommodating. This hotel is dated but beds are very comfy and the location is amazing! Gorgeous gulf views with a restaraunt on the 7th floor overlooking the ocean. Check out the bar at Kokonuts downstairs by the pool and see Debbie! She's very sweet and pours amazing drinks!

Did not stay the night, but attended a wedding on the top floor. Separate elevator from outside to the top floor and a separate area/opportunity for cocktail hour. The view from the smaller room/elevator looks into the bay area of Sarasota - lots of beautiful homes and water! The view from the main room is gorgeous - it looks right over the beach and we saw an incredible sunset! It is absolutely beautiful and they did a wonderful job. It's a smaller room, but definitely sat 75+ comfortably. The dinner was absolutely fantastic. They had a fish dish, pork with sweet potatoes, and a chicken - everyone raved about them all. Definitely one of the better wedding dinners we've ever had!

This hotel served it's purpose. It definitely has it's flaws but overall it was a fine place to sleep.
My biggest problem is that they use satellite so during the rain we couldn't watch any TV. I don't know about you but when it's raining and you're on a vacation, all you want to do is snuggle in bed and watch some trashy tv. That's vacation! This hotel made that experience not an option. I was super annoyed.
The bathroom is old and there is water damage on the floor and tiles but the bed was extremely comfortable and I slept like a baby.
Our ocean view was amazing and since we only stayed one night I can't complain too much.

We were here out of season: Aug 22nd for 4 nights.... The staff is amazing... they were cheerful and helpful.  You definitely want an ocean view room here.  We were on the 4th floor and the view was killer. The rooms are outdated, a little dirty but were fine.  We did have some ants and a few other bugs running around but they didn't really bother us much.  There was a refrigerator in the room but I don't think all the rooms have one so make sure you ask.

The toilet overflowed and filled up the bathroom but they came and fixed it quickly - cleaned it up.  Overall... this is a great spot... great pool with the beach and ocean behind it for a fantastic view.  It's right across from the beach on Lido Key and you can walk to the shops and restaurants at St. Armand's Circle... You have to go to the 7th floor and take pictures of the ocean and beach... I got some seriously amazing photos up there.

Well worth the money to rent the breathtaking Ocean -side, for its view!

Originally, I had booked a room for a night at the Longboat Key Hilton.
On the day before my stay, a representative had called me to say that their hotel was accidentally overbooked. But gave me an alternative to stay at one of their other hotels with an ocean view!
Needless to say, after he had offered me a room worth approximately $150 more a night. I agreed to the change.

First time staying Holiday Inn Hotel of Lido Beach.
Before this transaction, I was always curious about this place and their price but never before stayed here.

I must say,  I was impressed!
The hotel itself is a little old but very clean inside.
Their service was friendly and highly accommodating!
The manager of the Hilton had set me up for an ocean view stay for the sudden changes.

Well worth being on the ocean side!  Beautiful view of Lido Key!
Watched the amazing sunset from the balcony!
The stay was comfortable and convenient!
The pool was a little over crowded but I rather be at the beach,  just 100 yards across the street.

In part of the Hilton's managers accommodation, he delivered us two free complimentary adult beverage drink at their indoor or outdoor bar.

Two thumbs up for service and accommodation!
Another two thumbs up for the convenience and view!

I highly recommend this place, well worth making sure you have the ocean view.
A little more money, but worth the view!

Also.  Try their rooftop their restaurant. Yet another breathtaking view from above!  Their breakfast buffet was awesome!

BTW- per employee:  this place will go under renovations soon, but will still be open for business!

Rude staff, old rooms. Arguing (loudly and with profanity) at customers at the check-in counter, right in front of other customers. We were all stunned.  Worst part? Liars. Web site says: Every room has refrigerators. They do not. You are expected to call back down to the front desk and beg them for one and then wait around for room maintenance to being one. Ridiculous! When I called to ask where the fridge was, I was told that I was supposed to know this and this was a common hotel practice. Not at any hotel I've EVER stayed at. Worst of all was then being unceremoniously and without apology or explanation transferred to some "management" phone extension; like they'd be in after 8:30p on a Saturday night.
Never again. Too many other newer, and most importantly nicer, hotels around to stay here again. YMMV

I'm giving them four stars largely based on the service and the size and comfort of the room.

When I checked in the lady at the front desk was very nice and cheerful. She quickly checked me in and recognized me as being Platinum.

The rooms are very outdated, they feel like 1980-1990 decor. The room, though outdated, was comfortable, spacious and clean. I also like that the room has a balcony with chairs. There were signs in the elevators alluding to the hotel being renovated, but there was no noise or any other signs that renovations are actually being done.

The internet was God awful, which is the main reason for losing a star.

The location is excellent. It is directly across the street from the beach and just a five minute walk from the circle with lots of shops and restaurants.

At check out the guy was nice and efficient.

If in the area again I would most likely stay here. I just hope they renovate the place before then.

We stayed here three nights. The gulf side is the way to go. Balcony on the beach. Having said that, it's a three star at best hotel. Updates are needed! But the price was good for  beach front. Close to shops and restaurants- meaning a three minute walk to St.Armand's Circle.

The only thing this place has going for them is the super comfy beds and the amazing ocean view room...which you pay an arm and a leg for. But the room itself is nothing to brag about. They're dirty ... and our room was an end room, so apparently it was super small.  If I wasn't in search of a great ocean view this weekend, it def wouldn't be worth the money at all
Oh and there's not even a refrigerator in the room!

I am shocked by these reviews! What a great place!!

My family was in a recently renovated room, very nice with a gorgeous view of the Gulf. Beach access is right across the street with some of the softest sand! A short walk to St. Armand's Circle for shopping and restaurants. The restaurant on the top floor of the Holiday Inn is great. Wonderful views and a great place to eat for sunset. The staff at the hotel are always friendly and greet you with a smile. Our room came with a fridge and we asked for a microwave which was brought to our room in ten minutes. This was perfect for keeping dinner leftovers and heating up the next day for lunch. Pool at the hotel is wonderful also with extensive hours of 7am-10pm!

Can't wait to plan another vacation here soon!
