There is something up with the vibe here. It feels like the staff are being micro-managed by corporate policy. They aren't allowed to dim the lights in the crappy bar area?  Also I had to teach them how to make a martini. Yikes. Otherwise rooms are nice and clean. Microwave food only.

I am staying here while I transit to my new location for my job. The facility is wonderful. Great furniture, friendly staff, and comfortable beds. My stay so far has been a wonderful one, and I would stay here again in a heartbeat.  The pricing is not too bad, but then again I get the corporate rate so it may vary.

This is my first experience with Hyatt Place hotels.  The staff is extremely friendly and very helpful.  I love the layout of the room -- large enough and well-appointed enough that it really is very comfortable to stay in.  Large sectional sofa, large flat screen - complete with audio/visual breakout box installed where you can easily access to connect computer, iPod, etc.  Breakfast and free wireless.  I will definitely be returning on my next trip to Sarasota.  Like the other reviewer, pricing was very reasonable - at least at a corporate rate.

Great staff. Enjoyed Diana and Greg most of all. Continental breakfast is great. Pool area small but comfortable. Rooms are OUTSTANDING. Comfortable beds, sofa in room with desk and mini bar area. Convenient to airport and $25 cab ride to area beaches. Free shuttle to downtown area. Had a great stay.

I recently stayed at the Hyatt Place in Sarasota for a work trip and it was great. The lobby was bright and airy. The rooms were clean, roomy and comfy. The pool area was great. I loved that they had a nice outdoor sitting area. Plus, it's a really convenient location -- literally across the street from the Sarasota airport and a short drive away from the downtown area. If I come back to Sarasota for business or pleasure, I'd definitely stay here again.

For the price you pay for the hotel. The lady who checked me in was very pleasant. She was new and I asked for a room on the second floor and she did so without hesitation. Rooms are big and spacious. However the shower head is full of lime deposits and that grosses me out. The rest of the room can be perfect but if the shower head is disgusting then I can't feel clean using it. A shower head doesn't cost much to change especially if it starts looking nasty like that. And because of that I am moving across the street to the Hampton for now. When I called down to ask for an early check out the night lady who took my call told me to come down to the desk in the morning and let them know that I am checking out early. She was just being lazy and didn't want to deal with it. When I asked her why she couldn't just check me out for the morning she said then that would mean I would need to leave now (which was 9pm in the evening). Excuse me...I've never had a problem when I asked to check out the next morning. She sounded annoyed and put me on hold for a few minutes only to return and tell me that she has it taken care of. Obviously she was able to do it but just wanted someone else in the morning to deal with me.
On another note, I went down to the front desk at one point to grab a snack and a tea. I bought a peanut butter cookie that cost $3.25 and a cup of tea. She asked me if I wanted the small or large tea. Ummm it's tea...which means it's water. I didn't really think there was going to be a difference in charge until I got the bill. She handed me a cup of hot water and a tea bag and the cookie. It all came to $7.76!! WTF?!! even Starbucks doesn't charge that much. I'll understand if this was a sit down restaurant with it served to me in a fancy tea pot with a metal spoon and a wedge of lemon, but cmon, most hotels offer complimentary tea, not to mention sometimes cookies too! Anyways I paid the $7.76 and went up to the room only to find that the water was only half full in my large cup. I didn't want to bother going back down and asking her to fill up the water. I felt double ripped off. The cookie was stale.
Also the lobby had a weird smell. Smells like the casinos in vegas.

This place cost about $120 a night but I got it for $60 a night using the priceline name your price deal. Win for me!

Great Hotel right by the beach...Airport is .5 miles away.

I am a big fan of the Hyatt Place line, the rooms feel large and the layout gives you a great feeling of separation between the sleeping and the working/tv area (with the big sectional).  It feels very comfortable.

The rooms were clean, the bathroom is a little cramped but workable.  The staff here were very friendly and the shuttle service was great.  The continental breakfast was good as well, with hot offerings as well as the usual continental fare (no, I am not talking about those make your own waffle machines from the Super 8).  I didn't have a chance to try out the pool or hottub.  The location is great and I will definitely use it if in the area again.

This place was nice, especially for 60 bucks a night through a priceline express deal. That's the way less nice Super 8's rate if you're lucky.

Your room is kind of a mini suite. With one half being a TV room with a big couch and desk and the other being the bedroom. Clean and good smelling. The AC unit was the quietest I've run into in Sarasota so far. The airport runways are positioned in a way that no planes ever fly directly over the hotel so you don't hear anything. You can sit outside and watch them take off and come in though which is nice if you have some free time to burn. My only beef was the third floor ice maker didn't work two nights in a row so I had to go to the second.

After booking I checked Yelp and noticed the reviews mentioning the scam, so I made sure to take a detailed video of my room right before I checked out. So far no bogus charges on my credit card. So either they aren't scamming anymore or didn't find me worthy. Or I just haven't gotten charged yet. :p

I stay at this particular hotel in Sarasota frequently.  I am a fan of this chain.

Pros: Pleasant and helpful front desk staff. Snacks available for purchase. Big flat screen TV in rooms.  Nice clean rooms with a contemporary flair.
Cons: Every time I stay the internet is so slow it is basically impossible to use.  For a Hyatt I would expect better.  They say it is because so many people are using it but I travel often but don't experience this problem at other hotel chains.

All in all, a nice hotel for tourists.  Not ideal for business people or anyone who needs to use internet during their stay.  There are hotels with much better internet connection setups for guests.  Also, haven't had a problem with the $250 damage fee other guests report but now that I am reading about it I will probably take photos of my room before checking out.

Apparently the manager of this establishment can just write a short and without evidence "cuz I said so" letter to a credit card company saying you put a hole in a wall (when you didn't) and charge your credit card $250.

However, the management can never call or email to discuss such a matter at the time it supposedly happened nor do they bother to return two messages to discuss after they ding your credit card.

Please read the original post to understand what a scam this is.

I hope the manager, the owner, and the Hyatt corporation understand that they have now lost more than $250 in future business from me, my family, and my friends and likely some of those that read this update.

Poor poor poor customer service.

I was able to book a last minute two night stay using my American Airlines frequent flyer miles.  Like another reviewer noted, there is a charge to have a dog and there is also a weight limit to pets, 50 pounds.  If booking with your pet is an issue, there is a pet boarding place not too far from the airport called Bayside Pet Resort.  This hotel charges $75 for up to 6 nights with a pet, but the charge is the same rate of $75 even if you only stay one night.  Bayside was going to charge $36 a night for pet boarding for a dog my size (over 60 pounds).  In any event, I found a friend to watch the dog so all of this was a non-issue for me, but I am posting the info because like the other reviewer noted, when you book online using a service like the American Airlines frequent flyer miles Advantage program or some other online service, it only says the hotel allows pets but it doesn't disclose a fee or a size limit.  Buyer beware and call before booking to see if your pet is welcome and how much it might be as an extra charge.  It might be cheaper for short term stays to board your pet elsewhere while in town.

The hotel itself was very clean and welcoming.  The elevator went out one morning while I was there, but they posted clear signs so nobody was trapped or inconvenienced too much. The daily breakfast was adequate, about what you would expect- some fresh fruit, coffee, juices, some industrial looking pastries, a place to toast your bagel, yogurt and choices of cereals.  The room was very nice, a suite style with a living room type area and two queen beds.  Beds were very comfortable and I never heard a single plane even being across from the airport.  The soundproofing is excellent for both planes and random sounds within the hotel corridors.

My one suggestion for area of improvement is the two computers in the open lobby area that serve as the business center.  There was a sign posted that no one under 21 was to use those computers, but there were several times I went to try and use one to check my email and there were kids or young teens parked on them playing video games or doing Facebook for hours on end.  This is irritating if you just need a computer for 10 minutes and it is awkward for a guest to approach a kid sitting there and ask them to leave. It would be nice if staff monitored that area a little better so kids are not hogging computers.  Other than that, I found this hotel very nice and I would stay there again.

We stayed here for five nights and we had a good time. There were four of us. Two adults and two kids. We all loved the area very much. It is a good location with the beaches about ten minutes away and downtown about five minutes away. There are plenty of food choices in the area. But with free breakfast buffet in this little hotel, we saved a lot of money. We will stay here again in the future. PS the customer service in this hotel is very very good!!!!!!!!!

Nice, spacious rooms (double queen). Quiet hotel with very friendly and accommodating staff. I went into their employee room (to use their safe - unfortunately there are none in the rooms) and saw their customer service mottos pasted on the walls - handwritten instructions on how to handle guests. I can't think of a single person who didn't say hello or greet us on the way in or out.

Two minor complaints - 1) no safe in room (see above) and 2) breakfast is mediocre. The selection is not great - there were usually 2-3 hot foods and no breakfast meats (sausage, bacon, etc.) except on the weekend. They will get you a few strips of bacon if you ask, but otherwise, don't expect a full spread. There are also cereals and breads. It was what I would call an adequate, but uninspired breakfast.

We came down for a weekend in May.   We enjoyed our stay. No complaints at all.  Of course, our requirements is pretty simple.  We just want a clean, safe and quiet hotel.  I'm pretty allergic to the world so I can tell if a room is actually "clean".  I didn't have any issues with my allergies at all.

Hubby accidentally ordered a movie but the front desk was able to remove the charge for us.  (No, it was not porno. Ha!)

On the Sat. night there, parking was an issue.  I had to make a myself a spot in the back by the side of the fence.  I don't know it this happens a lot but the front desk said that the hotel was booked to capacity that weekend.

Free wifi.  There is a small (really small) bar by the front desk that is open late.  Food service is available 24/7 which is awesome but we didn't try it.  The breakfast selection was great for what we had that one morning.  I had an English muffin with egg, ham, cheese and spinach.  Yum!

We'd probably stay there again.  The airport is pretty much across the street. (You can't hear the planes.)  Can't miss a flight by staying here.

My room is large and super comfortable. I love that you can order food 24/7 from the 24/7 Gallery. The food wasn't bad. The Flatscreen TV in my room is at least 42 inches and the decor is modern. Breakfast is included as well! I'm totally staying hear again.

DOG FRIENDLY not!!  They are dog friendly for an extra $75.  Had I known this I would have never booked it on priceline.  Priceline does show this hotel as pet friendly, I had no idea they ask $75 extra for one nights stay, that is the same price as the room cost.  No way is this place EVER getting my business again!!!

I have stayed here before but without my best friend and have seen dogs but what a crazy charge!  I could see paying an extra $20 a night but seriously.  You guys are nuts!!!

NEVER AGAIN will I stay at any of your properties.  F*^cking crazy charge!!

This has generally been my go-to hotel in Sarasota. It's got everything you'd want (fast, easy wifi) and none of the useless crap (tip-mongering bell boys, mints on the pillow). The rooms are spacious with big couches and giant flat screens. The staff is nice. The free breakfast is pretty good, though I must admit that my last stop at their buffet gave me a bit of upset belly. To be sure, it is all ready-made heat-and-serve food. One complaint is that they didn't honor my Hyatt Gold points because I'd booked through another web site. Hyatt does not understand how to operate a proper loyalty program.

I've stayed at many Hyatt Places around the U.S. and my favorite aspect about them in consistency. It doesn't matter what state you're in, they are all the same -- which I find a good thing in a hotel chain. I should say right at the beginning of this review that although I have stayed in nice hotels, I prefer to save money on my hotel so that I have more to spend on doing fun things.

We were welcomed by the front desk staff, who always seem very cheerful. We had reserved online, and check in went smoothly. I love knowing the layout of the hotel (where the elevators and bathrooms are, etc.) upon arriving because it's the same in every Hyatt Place! Our room was $92 a night, which isn't the best deal I've ever gotten (at a Hyatt Place or otherwise), but it WAS the best deal I could find in Sarasota for this particular weekend trip.

The rooms are definitely a big highlight of Hyatt Place. They're clean, huge, and they feel very faaancy (say this with a faaancy person accent). When I used to travel a lot for work, three of us girls would share Hyatt Place suites and it worked out so well -- We'd get 2 beds and then in each room the couch pulls out to become a third bed. This time, it was just me and my husband, so we got a king and lounged on the couch to watch TV. The TV swivels so you can watch it comfortable from couch or bed!

The only thing about the room I wasn't crazy about (and don't remember from previous stays in other places) is the shower. It has this weird half door and I'm not sure what the inspiration was behind that. The shower splashed beyond this little door, which seems obvious because it's like taking a shower with the door open. I didn't get it... But other than that the shower pressure and everything were fine.

The other thing that I like about Hyatt Place is the restaurant downstairs. The have some cute little name for it, but the reason I like it better than other hotel restaurants is because it's not expensive (if I want to treat myself, I don't want to eat inside my hotel) but the food is pretty good. I am a fan of the tomato bisque. I also tried a chicken caesar salad, which was massive considering I was doing the half soup half salad combo. My husband got some sort of Mediterranean sandwich, which he found delicious. However, it was about the size of his little finger, so it functioned as more of a snack!

This hotel is very conveniently located. We walked over to the Ringling Museum, which was on our to-do list. We were also extremely close to Tamiami Trail, where it seemed like a lot of restaurants and bars were that we wanted to try. There's a hotel shuttle that they offered us as well, which sounded like it was a great way to get around. I would definitely inquire about that if you're not in the mood to drive!

Before staying here, I had read the reviews about the extra charges, and I'm pretty sure that was a one-time mistake or misunderstanding. No problems for me! Overall, I found this a very pleasant experience and we will stay here next time we visit Sarasota.

I really like the Hyatt Place brand and frequently stay in them.

There was an especially friendly staff at this hotel. It's not a "full service" hotel, but from what I could see the only things missing were valet car service and room service (although they do have a 24/7 kitchen, you just have to go pick it up).

Free wifi, gym in the building, and a free "continental +" breakfast (it's like halfway between continental and buffet).

A good hotel for a great price, and this one didn't disappoint or fall short of the Hyatt Place brand's standards.

Friendly front gallery staff. Very helpful. You will not get room service here, however you will get basic good food that you go down stairs an pick up.

There is something on the menu for everyone. Burgers, chicken, soups and salads. Even a few tasty treats for dessert.
They do have beer and wine here to be able to enjoy a drink after work.

Moderately priced hotel with a small gym with two tread mills and an elliptical machine. Also a nice set of dumb bells from 5 pounds up to about 50 pounds. Clean and neat.
A small pool about 25 meters if you want to swim. The rooms are spacious and clean. Each one has a coffee maker and refrigerator in it.

Great place to stay for business.

Everything you need in one place.

I'm not a fan of having no one at all to help with my luggage but at least they provide rolling carts and they actually happened to be available instead of all missing like they usually are so I was happy.

Staff seems to be friendly as a general rule.

Room seemed to be clean from top to bottom.  Bed bugs?  Checked.  Didn't see any. Check bedbugregistry.com if you want to see if your hotel has been reported as infested.  You will be surprised how many of them are.

At these cut rate hotels I NEVER get a chance to utilize their free breakfasts.  It seems like they all have it in for me.  They serve super 'effin early and end early.  How convenient for them!  Besides .... eggs?  forgetaboutit.

Went over to the Ritz Carlton to check it out and also get a bite to eat at the bar.  Great cocktails, great bartenders, good crowd.  Not what you'd expect for a Ritz Carlton, it's weird... you'll see, but I had a great time chatting and eating.

It's ok. I feel like I should of liked it more considering it is Hyatt and everyone stays here.
It's not too old, but not new either. Lobby is beautiful, they also have pool, jacuzzi and exercise room (not control over thermostat, which is inconvenience to sweaty runners in 5am in the morning). Free continental breakfast, nothing outstanding.
Happy hour at the tiny bar next to the reception desk 2x1. I mean it is not really a bar, seems like an afterthought.
Room layout is awkward. Huge amount of space in the living area, but at same time it's almost mission impossible to close bathroom door without stepping into the shower itself. Speaking of a shower, whoever got a brilliant idea to install pretty European half door in the shower probably did not realize those meant for the bath tubs and not standing tower? Water everywhere is so not my idea of fun. (Wait, may be it is?)
Lastly, customer service here is pretty bad. "We run out of lotion. No, we will not be getting any more soon", "it was not me who did it", "I really do not want to push wrong button" and "we'll return your money (wrongfully charged) in 3-5 business days" is not something you want to hear from hotel employees.

We are Hyatt reward members and honestly are not impressed with this location, sadly to say. We had two separate reservations while vacationing here and in between had visited Disney.
The staff for the most part are friendly but don't expect anything more than that because they are not outgoing. They will avoid eye contact or talking to you if they can.
The rooms are fairly clean but if you walk around barefoot in your room you'll find your feet will turn black. The showers are alright, the shower in the first room we were in had a clogged tub. The second bathrooms shower head is loose and rusting. The floor tile in front on the tub is dirty as well.
The pillows are mediocre, bed sleeps well but youse want to double check if the sheets are clean. I found some leftover wrapper piece from a pill in the sheets and some questionable bits of who knows what by the bottom of the bed, under the covers.
If you want to hang towels or dry clothes, good luck, there's no place to hang your towels other than over the shower rod.
Then finally, the worst: breakfast here is disgusting. Even eating a doughnut can't be eaten by our 6 year old, it's just so cheap tasting that you can taste how generic the food is. The fruit is out of a can, or at least not fresh cut. The skillet food is not worth even putting on your plate. Then, each morning, the tables are dirty, food or utensils are low or running out. The Seattles Best coffee is the worst, just a blah brew. In fairness to the staff, they need someone else to assist. I saw a manager just staring at the screen at the front while patrons were sitting at dirty tables. Overall, it's low quality food that if you eat it, its only to fill your belly but not to enjoy the taste.
I will not recommend this Hyatt or return, it was a waste of our money and our points. Something needs to change because this is unacceptable of Hyatt.
