This place is great!  Excellent balcony room with a view of the pool and boats.  The pool is very nice with a waterfall.  Staff friendly would stay here again if in the area.

No review on Yelp for a while so I thought I would post on our recent 5 night stay.

Appearance : The hotel was been subject to a major renovation that has been done very tastefully. The lobby, hallways and rooms are all done in mostly white, and pastel pinks and greens. It's obvious though that this is an older building because the renovations couldn't fix a few things.... more on them later.

Check in : at 3am, no problem. They also have a self check in machine if you are feeling anti social

Room : 1st floor with Balcony. Very clean and comfortable. We didn't get much use out of the balcony due to the unseasonably cold weather, but can't blame the hotel for that.

Bar : "OK", the usual hotel bar. Good for a drink on the way out or the way back in, but not your main destination for the evening.

Restaurant : Didn't try. Looked nice, but was also pretty expensive and difficult to choose to eat in the hotel when there are so many other places around in Sarasota.

Gym, conference, room service, concierge : We are very easy hotel guests as all we want is a room, and seldom use any facilities. Housekeeping deserves a special mention though because we stayed in the room quite late some days till 1 or 2 pm, and were not disturbed, but even after a short trip out (around 1 hour) the room had been cleaned. The Hyatts environmental policy seems a little aggressive, ie they claim they will only replace towels and bed sheets if you specifically ask them to (as oppose to other hotels who give you the choice.... put the towel in the tub, we'll replace them, put the card thingy on the bed, we'll change the sheets). However, we found we got fresh towels and sheets every day anyway.

Noise : I was initially a bit concerned about having a low floor, but that turned out to be a non-issue as our room was nice and quiet, even though we had other guests all around us. As mentioned before, it was unseasonably cold during our visit, which meant the pool, which was directly outside our balcony, was empty, so I can't comment on whether there would be noise from the pool coming into the room or not.

Parking : Either on the quiet dead end street right outside, assuming you can parallel park, or in the hotels lot. Easy and free.

Opportunities for improvement : 1) We had a strange issue in the bathroom where every time we took a shower, despite being very careful with the shower curtain and the shower head nozzle, we always ended up flooding the bathroom floor. After some further inspection of the wooden sideboards and the watermarked tile floor, it seemed this was a regular occurrence. Hopefully this was a room specific issue, and not a general bathroom design issue. 2) It would appear the recent renovations did not stretch to knocking down walls and making the bathroom bigger. The tub/shower and WC were in their own very small, cramped and dark room off a nice dressing room. 3) Again, a "feature" of the original buildings design that perhaps couldn't be addressed in the renovation was the elavators locations. There are 3, 2 on one side of the lobby, and 1 on the other side. They are all operated by the same up/down call buttons and for the first few days we were puzzled as to why the buttons would go out, yet there was no elavator appearing..... this was because the single elavator had turned up unannounced (no bing bong, no lights) but we didn't see it because we didn't know it was there for the first few days. Either fix the bing bongs and lights, or maybe turn off the single elavator altogether, as they were never busy during our stay, even with the hotel at full capacity. 4) Charging for WiFi is just annoying these days, and the major hotel chains shouldn't be able to get away with it any longer when the el cheapo chains (ie Motel6) offer free WiFi.

Tips : 1) There is a computer and printer for guests in the lobby where you can print out your boarding passes, which was very useful 2) There is a very nice secluded "nook" in the lobby, round behind the elavators which would have been very nice to sit in with our guests of an evening, but it was too cold to be comfortable during our stay.

    Would go back, would recommend.

I've stayed here twice in the past three years, and would again in the future if the need arose. The grounds of the hotel are gorgeous, and the bars and restaurants are fantastic as well. The pool area is resort-like, and usually busy but not too packed.

The first time I stayed, I booked the regular guest room which I found a little cramped (lack of storage for luggage, etc). The bathroom was awkwardly small, but the toilet and shower were the only things in there - the sink was outside of the room, which I didn't care for.

On my second visit, I stayed in one of the two-story suites. That was much better, very spacious and I liked having the separate bedroom upstairs. The views from both rooms were fantastic, but it was nice having a balcony on my second visit to enjoy the weather.

This is one of the cleanest and most attractive hotels in the area, perfect for any Sarasota vacationer...

We loved our stay at the Hyatt.  The kids had a blast at their pool and my husband and I felt relaxed enough to close our eyes while they played.  The rooms were perfect for the whole family and recently upgraded.
The restaurants were filled with great , affordable selections.  Happy hour, live entertainment and a great fitness room too.

We will definitely be back again and again.

Booked during the week of the fourth.  Original stay was to be through Sunday.  Balcony was so small that one would have to stand up, so that another person could slide the door to go outside.  Toilet handle had to be held down to flush.  Housekeeping didn't replenish toilet paper.  Children were permitted in the pool in a DIAPER!  Fellow guests were permitted to walk throughout the hotel( inside bar, elevators, hallways)  bare foot, soaking wet and without cover ups.  Amazing experience when sharing an elevator with one.  Called front desk several times to switch rooms, even upgrade and received the run around.  Ended up checking out 3 days early due to the horrible service and went to the Ritz.  Never recieved an apology.

Recieved an email from the hotel with a generic apology email specifically asking that I contact them.  I sent an email stating that I was willing to give them an extra chance and wanted assistance in ensuring the room I recieved would not be the same.  Never got a reply.  Went on Trip Advisor and wrote a review and received a voicemail from the manager that he had no idea that I sent an email and to call him.   Which in the 21st century, when one has a direct email address, it doesn't disappear.  You just batch delete or don't read it.

Returned the call and left voicemail.  No reply.  The topper was that I spent an hour today on the phone with my credit card company because a $825 charge was applied to a credit card that I used over year ago when I visited the hotel.  Charges were determined to be fraudulent.   I attempted to contact the hotel directly again to find out why they would hold on to my credit card information from a year ago and once again, No Manager available.   Now, I'm considering cancelling the Visa that I used during the July 4th stay.

    BEWARE!

For an extra 50 a night, one is better off staying at the Ritz and recieving amazing customer service.

We had a pleasant stay at the Hyatt Sarasota.  We selected this hotel as it was the closest to the Van Wezel Theatre.  It was within walking distance, I'd say about 5 minutes walk.

The hotel is very clean and modern looking with lots of bright colours depicting colourful Florida.  I love the colours of my room - white, bright fuschia pink and chatreuse green.  There is a bay window with a rattan sofa chair nestled in it.  We were facing west and the sun came streaming through the window and it was perfect to just sit and read or watch the world go by downstairs in the marina and pool area.

The only problem I have is the bed - just a tad too small.  We had the double bed room.  The other thing is the sink is on the outside of the bathroom.  Why do hotels do that I'll never understand!!

All in all, had a nice stay.

If you collect Aeroplan points, you must produce your card or the number.  They may not know what Aeroplan is; say Air Canada and you'll get 500 miles just for staying there!!

Breakfast buffet was delightful!  The staff in the restaurant were so happy that you will feel that you will have a great day with all that bubbliness!!  Great buffet with scrambled eggs, quiche, sausages, bacon, oatmeal, fresh fruit, cold cereal, danishes, includes juice and coffee or tea.  The buffet is about $19!  If you have AAA or CAA, you can get the buffet for free.

This place is excellent. The people who work here really push the rating up. Yes, some items are a little overpriced for the product. But the totality of the service, the views, the pool, and the location really make for a great get away spot. Once again, I must say that the staff, and all the little services, like someone waiting at the main door with cold bottles of water for people returning from a morning run, really go above and beyond. Very friendly and very responsive while we were there. We will be back.

A beautiful hotel. The staff is friendly, the rooms clean, comfortable and just nice to be in. I loved that they have an ipod doc in the bedside table, so you can just plug in and play your tunes.

The location is great. It's walking distance to the Marina and downtown area.

There is no need to visit the restaurant unless you are so exhausted that you just can't make it out. The food is edible, but that's about all I'm going to give it. They do have a nice happy hour though. It's from 3 - 7. But other than that, go somewhere else.

With a modern look and feel, this is definitely a great hotel to stay in.

I just came back from my nephew's wedding in Sarasota Florida and Stayed at the Hyatt Regency Sarasota.  It seemed a bit older in decorating, but I understand the pool area has recently undergone a renovation.  The pool wasn't the largest I've seen, but it was very welcoming and I loved the hot waterfall that fell into the hot tub  (the water was actually hot from the waterfall) - that was cool!  There were also several waterfalls poolside that made it very relaxing and a poolside bar with lots of yummy drinks and good food.  The rooms were really big with lots of space and we had a room with a balcony that overlooked the pool and bay/marina area, which was just beautiful to wake up to every morning - such a treat for a Northerner.  There were 2 small drawers for clothing, so make sure you bring mostly clothes that can be hung or plan for hanging up most of your clothes. The bathroom itself while clean and functional was really! small  -  it's a good thing I'm on the small side.
Every staff person I encountered was extremely friendly and helpful!
And the place is hopping all the time which felt great!  I loved the overall ambience, it just felt like Florida :)  The hotel is a short drive to Lido Beach and St. Armand's Circle and not too far from Siesta Key (rated #1 beach)  Check them ALL out - Don't miss anything!!!!! And at St. Armand's Circle I recommend The Columbia Restaurant and get their 1905 salad if you love salads.  The Blue Que at Siesta Key Village had some fabulous daily specials and was a fun place.    And if you're looking for fun nightlife and more great restaurants, check out Downtown Sarasota - it's got it all!  Have fun in Sarasota!

This is a review for the banquet/hospitality area only as I did not stay in the hotel.  I attended a wedding at the Hyatt, one of 3 weddings going on that day in the main lobby/ballroom area.  One of the managers ( I make that assumption based on the earpiece he was wearing for communication within the hotel) was in the hallway discussing the "Bridezilla" in one of the event rooms.  I am sure that conversation was not meant to be heard by a guest like me, but it was and it was a huge turn off on the level of professionalism of the staff.  She may well have been a "Bridezilla", but then again I am aware that weddings are not cheap and they are stressful and that no paying customer deserves to be dissed by the staff paid to handle the event.   I didn't notice anything else after that comment-- I'm sure the room was well appointed and the food was good but that comment stuck in my craw like a chicken bone in my windpipe.

This place is beautiful.  Everyone that works here are absolutely amazing.  The pool is just amazing, I wish I could of stayed here longer. Rooms are really great I got a room without a balcony but had a bay window with a chase chair, it was way batter than the balcony!!! I didn't eat in the restaurant, but there are a TON of places on Main St to eat.

dear hyatt regency sarasota, i have two words for you - FITTED SHEETS.
i confidently speak for the rest of your guests when i say that we would all be much happier if our feet weren't hitting mattress every night because you insist on masquerading flat sheets as fitteds.

it's too bad, because the rest of my stay was really nice. the staff is friendly and quick to help; from the front desk to the pool staff to the person refilling your water glass. all the rooms seem to have a balcony or window seat and are decorated in beachy-feeling pinks and greens. the hotel restaurant, currents, offers seasonal fare, with seafood that is often local and sustainable (i had some truly fantastic key west pink shrimp with cheddar grits and peppadew relish). and the pool area is equipped with chairs and towels, and features a waterfall for those in need of a high pressure shoulder massage.

but the main point of a hotel is to offer me a place to sleep, so if you can't get that right, i just can't award you 4 stars. (and because you charge $9.95/day for wireless.)

Wow, I cannot believe the other reviews here.  The Hyatt Regency Sarasota has (apparently) recently undergone a renovation and is quite nice.

The hotel is decorated in a beautiful, modern, minimalistic style.  There are a couple of restaurants on site, which I didn't have a chance to try.  I gave the bar a try, they had reasonably priced drinks ($5 for a pint of Blue Moon) and apps (I tried the yucca fries, which were awesome).

Each room has a flat screen TV, desk, a small chair and half-sofa near the window.  The bathroom is separated into two areas -- one with a shower/toilet and one with just a sink.  My only complaint is that the shower is tiny.   Some rooms have a small balcony, but those have a higher nightly rate.  There is a large pool area with a waterfall, a poolside bar, and a guest laundry facility.

The hotel is a short drive from the beach.  The Sarasota beaches were amazing, we loved them.

If you can judge a hotel based on the parking lot, that alone would get this place four stars; we saw Ferraris, Hummers, and other nice cars during our stay.

Comfortable hotels with decent rooms, but I was surprised that this was a Regency-the may need an update or two.  The pool area was nice, but kind of small.  The bar staff was not the nicest-if you're a loud group, I'd suggest going elsewhere to have drinks or going outside.

This hotel is very nice. After a very extensive renovation the feel is as close to South Beach as you will get in Sarasota. I was here for two days for a corporate seminar.

The service was excellent! We had lunch from the restaurant menu both days and the food was very tasty, well presented and very fresh.

Definitely worth an off season stay-cation if you are in the Tampa Bay area.

We stayed at this hotel in "off" season and really enjoyed our stay. Room was great, very clean. (no small thing these days). Pool is incredibly nice and well designed. Food is great (though incredibly expensive..go downtown or to Lido). Great central location for a short stay. If you are looking for more beach/longer stay I would suggest renting a condo. Also, I can imagine in peak time that this hotel is a major pain-super difficult to get the elevator or a chair at the pool..just something to keep in mind.
Overall, in June, a nice place to stay.

Spent a week here and I can honestly say that this hotel has the BEST pool of any hotel I have ever visited; the pool area is AWESOME!!!

Staff we encountered (front desk, pool, housekeeping) was very nice and the overall hotel was very well kept and clean although it would better suit for a less loud and cheesy hallway carpet and color scheme as well as a less blah/boring room decorum and color pallet; especially for the prestige and price-point of this hotel.

The bathroom is very small and compacted, but it works well enough and didn't give us any problems.
Bed (we had a King) could have been softer for our liking (it was pretty firm), but not a deal breaker.
TV channels available are a joke with really bad reception, but we really didn't go here to watch TV as the pool, local beaches, and nearby restaurants and shops should keep one out of the hotel room as much as possible.

Hotel restaurant/bar is atypical overpriced for everything they serve, but that is easily compensated by the availability of MANY outside dining options nearby.

My only real gripe mirrors other Yelp reviewers in that there is no free wi-fi here; HONESTLY, for the price of this place, free wi-fi should be a given!!!!

The Fiance and me would gladly return for another stay here (this was our second visit) mainly for the pool and convenience to the downtown Sarasota shops and nearby beaches, but only for the discounted price we reserved the room with (thanks negotiator man). Add free wi-fi in the deal and this place will get a 4 star rating, but until then, I have to give it a solid 3.5 mainly for the pool and friendly staff.

Overall, the entire hotel seemed newly updated and was very modern and clean.

I had two full beds, a TV, a small fridge and a coffee station in addition to a fantastic view. The room and closet were quite large, but the bathroom was pretty small. The sink was outside of the bathroom (more like a vanity), and the shower/tub and toilet were squished together in a small room. It was very cramped and didn't have great ventilation for a very hot shower.

Just an FYI - they charge extra if you want to have more than two guests in a room. I think it's $25 extra per person per night.

just a wonderful hotel at a nice place.
the room was big, clean and very convenient.
they provided also an internet corner with printer.
    very nice pool

breakfast buffet was nice, but a bit expensive.
boat renting was very expensive and not transparent.
internet (WIFI) only available for free at the lobby.

    but two very good things:
    a) very friendly and professional staff
    b) go running in the morning and when you come back you'll find apples and water just for refreshment; very nice!

This is our new favorite hotel, in our new favorite city!  Being new to Florida, we visited Sarasota for a one-night stay this past week.

Service, cleanliness, amenities, LOCATION and accommodations were all top-notch!  LOVE the Lilly Pulitzer-esque decor throughout the hotel - all bright green and pinks set against a white palate.  I recommend requesting a room with the marina view - we could see the marina, pool, and it was unbelievably beautiful!  The pool had a waterfall, outdoor bar, and plenty of lounge chairs.

As we are always looking for ways to stay budget friendly, we loved the computer area in the lobby even though we brought our laptop (saving $9.95 on WiFi in the room), and the self-parking option which was free.  The bar and restaurant in the hotel have happy hour from 5pm-7pm, which includes $4 flatbreads and $5 house wines... yum!

Sarasota is one of those towns you never hear much about... but we were blown away!  The downtown area had tons of restaurants, pubs, wine bars, and shopping... you could spend an entire day on Main Street.  3 miles from the Hyatt is St Armands, a shopping and dining circle that is one block from Lido Beach.  Go a few miles from there, and you'll be on Longboat Key Island... amazing!  We're already planning our next trip back to Sarasota and the Hyatt Regency!

This place has the trappings of a nice hotel but don't be fooled. It is a lot more style over substance. There were a few good things but enough hiccups that I wouldn't choose to stay here again.

When we got there I went to check in and they couldn't find my reservation. I asked them to recheck and she did and said no luck. I start scrambling through my information in a panic thinking I had screwed up. About 3 minutes in (long time when in panic mode) she goes, "oh wait, here it is...it was misspelled." Uh, I don't misspell my own name. Then she went on to inform my wife and I that they were out of rooms with king beds (as we requested). We took a room with two doubles because we didn't have a choice. After all this they could have offered me something but they didn't.  So we start with a sour taste in our mouths!

The rooms were nothing special. Not enough of the right sized towels. Valet was nice but slow.

I would not choose to stay here again.

A very nice and somewhat overpriced hotel that was in a great location for our purposes.

Shared a room here before the Sarasota First Watch Half Marathon in March 2013. We picked the hotel because you can literally see the race start from the front door.

The reservation process was seamless, although I will say we booked through the race website so I did not deal with Hyatt directly. Check in and parking was very easy. There is free parking within steps of the hotel. Our room faced the Van Wezel Performing Arts Center and we could see the intercoastal waterway as well. The room was tastefully decorated and impeccably clean. It was obviously recently renovated. I was very impressed with Hyatt's sensitivity to people with allergies. Their detergents, cleaning products, towels, sheets, etc. are free from harsh chemicals and easy on sensitive skin. Love that!

We spent some time exploring the hotel but did not use any other amenities. The pool area looked beautiful and the seating areas in the hotel were comfortable and well taken care of.

If I was to do this race again, I would seriously consider this hotel even thought it was almost $300 for one night. The cleanliness and convenience are hard to beat!

This is no way a four star hotel!!!!!!  Property is very dated and Room Service food is mediocre at best.  9.95 for Wi-Fi and you can get it free in most one or two star hotels.
Breakfast buffet was no better than the standard Hampton Inn, whats up with that.  Just because the sign says Hyatt doesn't mean it is four stars.  Save your money.

In Sarasota for business, I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Hyatt Regency along the water. I had only made my reservation about a day in advance, and was happy to know that they'd honor my corporate rate (and save my client some money).

Upon arrival, the valet was kind enough to let me leave my car in the drive while I checked in, since I'd decided to self-park. Valet is an option for an additional $19.

While I hadn't specified my preferred bed type when I made my reservation, I was given a room with two double beds. Unless you need the extra bed, I wouldn't recommend this option, as the beds were pretty small. Very comfy, but small.

My room was overlooking the marina, and while some of the rooms along that side had balconies, mine offered a bay window with a bench where I could soak up some sun from the comfort of my room. I'd try to get a balcony room next time though.

Neither breakfast nor wi-fi were included in the price of the room, which is something I don't understand in hotels that cater to business travelers. Wi-fi was $10 for 24 hours, which wasn't terrible, but when you're already paying north of $125 for the room itself, throwing in an amenity or two might get you the repeat customers you need. Just a thought.

Overall, the Hyatt was pretty conveniently located for where I needed to be for business. The availability of a self-park option let me take my car out to scrounge up some food without paying room service prices, which was a nice option. The room was spacious, and the beds were comfy. I'd consider staying here again if in town on business, but I'd definitely do some comparison shopping first.

I can't say a single bad thing about this place and the people who work here:) The pool is bliss! I love standing under the waterfalls. Who doesn't love a free massage? Plus the hut (poolside bar) has this drink called the "Category 5 Hurricane" it has five shots of different alcohol but tastes like fruit punch! They are deadly good! Room service is lighting fast. The restaurant is has delicious food. The only complaint is that the wi fi isn't free. I've had such a wonderful time here though, that I'm willing to overlook that one negative fact about this Hotel.

Stayed here for 3 nights on a girl's weekend at the beach. The hotel was extremely clean (the main thing I look for in a hotel) and must have been recently renovated - the fixtures and decorating were very bright and modern. I rarely see things in a chain hotel that I would want in my own home and yet there was quite a bit I liked at the Hyatt - a very pleasant surprise!
The hotel service was fabulous. As they say, people are nicer in the South. I am from the Northeast, where the service is brisk and can even be completely rude. At the Hyatt, we were always greeted with smiles and offered more than what we asked for, which is really great. On a lark, my friend and I asked the front desk for a blender for our room and the request was handled with such professionalism that we were incredibly impressed! We didn't get the blender, but the front desk person called the restaurant manager and was told that we could bring any ingredients we wanted to the kitchen and they would happily blend them up for us - amazing!

Through AAA, I was able to get a package that included the free breakfast buffet each morning and I HIGHLY recommend you do the same. The breakfast buffet offers your standard hotel breakfast items, but you can also order eggs prepared however you want from the kitchen. The potatoes were fresh and you could smell the rosemary and onion they were cooked with. The sources for all the meat, fruit, etc was labeled. The fruit was sweet, the coffee was hot and again, the presentation and service were miles above your average chain hotel breakfast buffet (we got a server named Millie a couple of days in a row and she was wonderful!).

Some drawbacks: the hotel offers a shuttle to Lido beach (which is not the greatest beach in the area) and St. Armond's Circle (a shopping/restaurant area that errs on the "high-end" side), however, the shuttle schedule is determined daily and is not very regular (every few hours if you are lucky). There is also a shuttle available to/from the Sarasota Airport (about 10 mins drive from the hotel), but again, it is not regular and unless you book it well in advance, it is probably useless to you. Moral of the story: rent a car. There is free and plentiful parking at the hotel and at all the public beaches and restaurants, etc in the area. Plus, you'll get much more mileage (pardon the pun) out of your stay.

I would love it if 1) the hotel offered more regular shuttle service to all the area beaches and say, Main St (where more shops and restaurants are) and the shuttle schedule was pre-determined, so you could plan your day around it and 2) if the hotel offered "beach care packages", i.e. lightweight beach chairs and umbrellas and towel service for travelers. I'd definitely pay a premium if those were offered.

Hyatt is becoming my brand of choice.  I used some reward points to stay here for a few nights.  I feel like Hyatt points go further than the competition.  It's a beautiful pool that the whole family will enjoy.  Views are good not great, but it's not terribly far from Siesta Key so it's not a problem.  Great customer service here.  They absolutely treated me like a king, and they didn't nickel and dime me with fees.

Very nice room. We have a king room with a balcony overlooking the marina and pool. We booked on Priceline, so we got a pretty decent deal. Had a couple minor issues: shower not draining properly, our room didn't get cleaned until after 4 pm one day. Both were responded to promptly. The hotel staff has been great, helpful. We've really enjoyed the very nice pool. Workout facility is nice. Location is good, not great. You're 20 minutes from siesta beach. Overall, I would definitely stay here again.

This is the best hotel in the area from floor to ceiling. My family and I travel to Florida every year for vacation and we just happen to Yelp Sarasota Hotels. We're glad we did because we will be back to this hotel every time that we are in the area. Thanks Hyatt!!!!!

My husband and I just returned from a fantastic weekend getaway at the Hyatt Regency Sarasota. Our first pleasant surprise was they offered free self parking. They also had the valet option for a charge ranging from $8 or $22 depending on day or nightly parking. We never had a problem finding a close spot for our rental car.

Next, from the moment we walked past the two cascading waterfalls that spill onto smooth black stones right before you enter the lobby doors, we immediately started to relax and feel right at home. It was a lovely ZEN touch we fully appreciated. We stepped inside and were greeted by soothing jazz music and a bright and spacious area with floor to ceiling windows and beautiful view of the marina in the back.  It was hard to believe that the hotel was built in 1975.  The recent renovations made the hotel lobby, bar and restaurant look and feel fresh and new.  At the front desk, Pami checked us in and couldn't't have been more helpful, courteous and friendly. She informed us our room was on the 9th floor and overlooked the marina and we were thrilled as that is what we had requested in advance. When we asked for a recommendation for a seafood lunch nearby she recommended Barnacle Bills which ended up being a delicious meal at a very reasonable price. She also advised us of the "$15 per day resort fee" which included a long list of amenities such as two free bottles of water, complimentary kayak, SUP (stand up paddle-board), and paddle-boats rentals (it is as simple as going down to the dock and checking them out), as well as free in room wi-fi.

Our room was well appointed, had a coffee maker with plenty of Starbucks packets which for us was a big PLUS, and great smelling soaps, lotion, conditioner and shampoo and even a travel size tube of toothpaste and very plush towels.  The balcony had two very comfortable chairs and a small table. We enjoyed the panoramic views watching the sunrises and sunsets and all the water in every direction. But I think both of us agreed the best part was the incredibly sumptuous Grand Hyatt Bed with the fluffy feather pillows, down comforter and pillow top mattress. We slept like babies. They also had a long list of complimentary amenities you could request, as well as many items to use during your stay, such as the flat iron they brought right up after I called. I felt like their motto was "all you have to do is ask". Another thing they took care of immediately was we were unable to get our TV to come on with the remote. The maintenance man was able to fix the loose power connection and get us up and running in no time. Something else that was impressive was we had our "privacy please" card tucked into our door slot and the hotel policy required him to call us first before knocking on the door.   One other thing we truly appreciated was the hotel has what they call "quiet time" from 10p to 7a to try and keep noise at a minimum for a very relaxing stay. During the day when leaving they offered complimentary bottled water, apples and towels which was such a nice touch. And in the evening from 4 to 6 pm they had a happy hour, which we happily took advantage of.

We spent some time at the tropical lagoon style pool with its multiple cascading waterfalls, which, by the way, offer an amazing back massage if you stand under them. And tucked farther back is a grotto like spa which felt heavenly on any sore muscles we may have had.  The atmosphere with the tiki torches, Hurricane Bar (which will deliver your favorite drink to you right in the pool), swaying palm trees made us feel like we were in a secluded island paradise. At night, there was also a comfortable couch which surrounded a fire pit for extra ambiance. The Currents Restaurant offered Marina style dining serving fresh, seasonal and sustainable ingredients. Once again, another "home run".

General Manager, Bruce McDonald, and all his staff did an A+ job at exceeding all of our expectations. They provided a casually elegant experience and we felt genuinely welcomed in every part of the hotel. Special thanks also to Front Desk Agents Richard and Justin for all their assistance, and our Housekeeper, Veronica, for keeping our little slice of heaven so tidy. We hope to return to this thoroughly enjoyable resort again soon.

Nice clean hotel with Florida decor.  Bright and modern, staff very attentive and friendly.  Not a very large property, but good for a business trip.  Bathroom is small, and wish there was a robe :)   Ran out of a couple toiletries including shave cream and the front desk gave me two cans for free.  They have a whole list of items upon request.  Very helpful considering there is not a store withing walking distance. Gym very clean.  Free shuttle to main attractions is nice.  Staff has been great!!!
Restaurants decent as well- Mahi Mahi tacos at pool bar very good!!

Great place to stay and have lunch/dinner at whether you're visiting or live in Sarasota!!  Location is prime on the Bayfront and in proximity to Downtown Sarasota.  Staff is friendly and courteous.  Food and drinks at the restaurant and bar are good.  And the atmosphere is fresh.  Hyatt is also a regular host for several local events.

This review is for the banquet facilities.

I attended an event with my husband and I must say I was pleasantly surprised with how well the food was prepared.

Our evening started with a seared scallop atop a lemon risotto and finished with micro greens-nice.

For our entrees we had the choice between filet, mahi or a wild mushroom cannaloni.  Patrick selected the fish and I opted for the vegetarian selection. Both were exceptional and showed the chef's creativity with the accompaniments:  mine was topped with Swiss chard and white truffle sauce. The mahi was served with a sweet potato chorizo hash and parsnips.

I would definitely consider holding a future event here. Quite impressed.

This is really your basic Hyatt, and in need of updating.  For some reason, they have been able to keep their "Regency" designation, which they've had for over 20 years.

The best thing about this hotel is its proximity to town.  The hotel has a good sized ballroom, and does a lot of events, as there are a severe lacking of venues of similar size in Sarasota.

Another major plus, if you get an odd numbered room, is that those rooms face the harbor, and thus a water view.

Bedding is excellent, but bathrooms need help.

I decided to stay at Hyatt's Regency Sarasota property based on a Fodor's review, and I booked my reservation though my travel agent. Neither the review nor the booking confirmation mentioned the hotel's mandatory "resort fee." That fee added materially to the nightly rate that I had contracted. It represents an illegal unilateral change in the booking, and, put simply, is deceitful. Surely the hotel would have charged me for at least the first night had I simply walked away from the registration desk following our arrival. So, upon checking out, I paid all of the charges that were just, due, and owing for our stay, but I charged the resort fee and associated taxes separately. As I demanded, the hotel reversed it.

My best description is:  "Meh" it's just slightly better than ok

I like the area but for the price I would say it's not worth it as a "Resort" - it's ok though but seen better 4 star

Beware the daily resort fee of $15 (surprise) didn't object - not even sure if mandatory but front desk sure made it seem that way.

Also beware the wifi included in the resort fee - if you want more than high latency unencrypted (use your VPN!!!) 1.5 MBPS (ancient T-1 speed) you have pay an extra $5 a day - for comparison teething to my LTE iPad gave me 15/14 MBps - which will you choose when running

Staff is nice, put out free apples and water in the am which was nice after a long run.
You really should use encrypted wifi Hyatt

Anniversary weekend with my wife and daughter August 2014.

As far as the location, it was very easy to find and there was parking readily available on the street in front of the hotel and self parking a block away for those that do not want to valet their vehicles.

I read that the hotel received a large makeover, although I have not stayed here before, I can say that the renovation brought a nice contemporary flair and feel, and even though it is in the price-range of the Ritz, it sure competes well with it.

    STAFF:
Sunny, informative and interested.  We arrived a few hours before check-in, approximately at 1pm and were not discouraged to wait until the 4pm time.  We were greeted with smiles and warm body language.  Christy, our host attendant was very attentive and offered my wife and I a complimentary cocktail and lemonade for my daughter.  Very nice touch!  This made us feel appreciated as all guests should feel within a hospitality-based environment.  She checked us in and invited my daughter for the 8pm screening of The Little Mermaid.

    ROOM:
Although our room was on the 1st floor, we had access to the balcony overlooking the Marina.  The room was nicely laid out, contemporary furniture, tasteful décor, a decent-sized flat screen and comfortable beds.  We opted for the double-room because of the little one, and she felt right at home.  In regards to the flat-screen, which was a 32 Inch LG TV, one small pet peeve is the lack of the hotels HD-screening of television shows because of the lack of available programming.  This must stem from the hotel contracting with a non networked cable provider.  Receiving Standard Definition via coaxial on an HD compatible TV is horrible.  Chains should understand that the in-bedroom experience should match the overall resort-feel of the hotel.  The television was controlled by a black box in the back connected via phone cables.  This security connection restricts access to the inputs and menu functions.  To disengage, simply disconnect the grey phone cable into the in slot to access the HDMI connections.  Use only if you are going to stream from an HDMI compatible device.  I streamed Blu-Rays from the laptop and this brought the TV to life.  Please keep in mind that this modification is not recommended and disengages the remote control.

The closets had extra pillows and covers, iron, ironing table, and removable wood hangars, not stationary ones like in most hotels.  The bathroom had a separate vanity area with complimentary toothpaste, shower gel, body wash and conditioner.  The only drawback was the tub-based shower instead of a standalone shower like you would expect at the Waldorf or Ritz.  It does feature walled tiles however, continuing its premium feel.  The shower head was decent, and the water pressure was great.

    AMENITIES:
The hotel featured a beautiful and spacious lagoon style pool with multiple waterfalls, one for the Jacuzzi, one for the main pool and several above for the stone décor.  The pool overlooks the Marina and features Category 5 bar.  The bar had a decent mix of available drinks, a few good craft brews on tap and an interesting 1 per person Category 5 specialty drink.  I wasn't brave enough to order it, only because I wanted to go out to dinner and had been drinking the whole day.  Food can be ordered and brought to your niche sunbathing location.  The pool averaged decent depth, averaging 4 feet in most areas and as deep as 6.2 in the middle.

I did not get a chance to spend time in the gym, as I was on vacation, not programmed to place my body under stress before attempting to relax.

The hotel did have an internet/café adjacent to the check-in area for those who do not have a smartphone to access internet.

The bar inside the main reception area was adequate and drinks were priced on par with most other establishments.  Another pet-peeve was finding out Sarasota had an enforced "blue-law" restricting alcohol sales prior to 12pm on Sundays.  The hotel did offer a full buffet and a continental breakfast, however I opted to go out to eat.

Do take advantage of the $15 per day resort fee as it includes access to bicycles, paddle boats, complimentary WiFi and water.

    PROXIMITY:
There are shuttles available every so often to provide access to the beaches and downtown.  I would have taken advantage but I prefer to drive and explore the city.  I do not engage much in touristic habits and tend to find my own path.  This is the best way to explore a city and reap its benefits.

The hotel was close enough to many restaurants scattered on US-41 and within walking distance to the Cultural Arts Center and other attractions.  The city is not large, so don't get discouraged.  For out of towners, do not try to walk your way throughout the city if you are not used to Florida weather.  Sarasota is geared towards the over 55 crowd, so its Segway-friendly.

    OVERALL:
    Excellent hotel.

I unexpectedly needed to extend my stay at the Hyatt Regency -Sarasota . What began as 5 or so day stay  became an extended stay. ALL the staff members I interacted with ( and there were many) were friendly, helpful and courteous.  Some standouts - Justin, Tommy,Pami,Kathy-Front Desk.Ryan-Bellman/Valet. Ivan, Tryggvi, Darlene -In room dining. These individuals go that extra step to provide seamless authentic hospitality. They genuinely made me feel welcome and when you aren't feeling well ..its the little kindnesses that make a world of difference. Also, Chef Kory and Chef Ian .

Stayed here over Labor Day weekend 2013.   This hotel just had a $22mm makeover and it shows!!

Modern and clean decor characterize this now swanky bayside hotel.   Furnishings are all new.

    STAFF:
Helpful and kind.  We arrived after a long travel day at 1am.   We were delighted to find a bellhop/valet still outside ready to unload.   We walked in and found two receptionists available.  Both were pleasant and professional, despite the late hour.   They helped us locate our Rewards numbers, upgraded us and placed us in rooms adjacent to one another.   Our room overlooked the marina and pool- Gorgeous and inviting!

    ROOM:
Clean, new furniture and linens.   Modern Decor with bright fuschia throw pillows.  Our king bed was plush and comfortable.  Extra pillows available in the closet.   Mini-fridge, bar, safe, iron, bench, seating area and balcony to enjoy the view.

    AMENITIES:
A gorgeous lagoon style pool with waterfall sits on the marina.  The pool is spacious with dozens of little areas to feel like you have an area to yourself.
Free Wifi in the lobby only.
Quiet Fitness Area with all the basics.

    PROXIMITY:
There is a restaurant or two right across the street, as well as the Ritz just across the water. Walkable to the Performing Arts Center.

Located a short drive to St. Armand's Circle (just over the bridge!) and Siesta Key.  There is a jogging path over the bridge that will take you to the Circle as well, so I presume it is walkable.

Close enough to some downtown areas that you could walk, but given the construction between the two, I wouldn't recommend it.

Great hotel.  Will likely stay here again if we return.

I think I'm going to vacation in Sarasota more often, just so I can stay at this hotel.

The room decor was beautiful, view of pool and marina amazing, and it was one of the cleanest 4 star hotels I had been to in a long time.

Tip: they don't have a covered walkway from public parking to the hotel, but there is valet.  you don't get charged the $22 valet as long as your car is not parked in valet overnight.  This means you can go in and out of valet all day long for $8, then just park in self parking overnight.

Yet another tip: Hotwire usually has these rooms at 50% off.  They don't disclose the name until after booking, but it's fairly obvious which one is the Hyatt as it's the only 4 star hotel with a $15 resort fee that's disclosed upfront before booking.

Really nice lobby, hotel was updated in bright, beachy scheme.  Pink lemonade upon check-in.  Our room had a great view of the bay from our window seat.  Area surrounding hotel looked run-down (under construction?) so hopefully that will improve in time.  A few restaurants nearby are walkable and it's just over the bridge to St Armand's Circle, Lido Key, Longboat Key.  Nice!

We enjoyed the gorgeous pool (great view of little marina), watching birds swoop down for fish, great to have lunch by pool (thanks to Mike our waiter for going above and beyond to check on gfree options and follow-up with servers to ensure my food was safe)!!  Made my week to be able to enjoy a salad and truffle fries by the pool like a normal person.

The only reason I give it 3 stars (not 4) is the cleanliness of rooms could be better.  Linens were clean but I noticed dust everywhere and dust/hair (not mine) along the floor/walls.  Gross.  It's attention to detail that makes the difference, especially for the price you pay for this hotel.

Great pool, free parking, good location (need a car, though) great pool staff, beautiful lobby, enjoyed nice little touches (lemonade, free popsicles by pool)...but rooms need much better cleaning.

As far as the Hyatt Regency brand goes, this is definitely one of the nicer Regency hotels I've been to. It's modern, sleek, open and beautifully laid out. The firepit and pool with the bar are nice amenities and overall I found the staff to be very helpful. I used the fitness center twice and also was directed on several outdoor running routes by the concierge. Tried the flatbread at the bar in the lobby - delicious. Excellent happy hour specials. Found the service at the pool to be very slow and inattentive. Didn't really matter that much to me though, because I was so astounded by the sunshine that the warmth was all I could focus on. If I had some here for an actual beach-type vacation, I probably would've been a little irritated by how slow the service was. The rooms were spacious and clean although not luxurious. Great view of the bay and over the green water. Gorgeous sunsets. Thought that the hotel was overall overpriced but I used Hyatt Gold points for the majority of my stay so it ended up being pretty affordable. Very centrally located to everything - would definitely stay here again!

Stayed here for a little weekend getaway and had a superb stay.

From the customer service at check in and valet, to servers at the restaurant and bars, everything went perfect.

I used points and since Im a premier member was upgraded to a deluxe king water view with a stanby request for a suite. Since the hotel was sold out I did not get my suite but my room was fine anyway. Gorgeous view of the marina and the gulf ,plenty roomy with a small balcony and large sliding doors you can open wide up and enjoy the breeze coming in.

We had drinks at the lobby bar and the service was spectacular, as was it in the restaurant for breakfast the next day and the pool bar that afternoon. We lingered by the marina and watched the boats come and go as my point status allowed a 2:00 checkout.

the hotel is very modern with a nice water feature as you walk in and a gorgeous pool area. Very sleek and Miami feeling.

I'd return here anytime for any reason!
