Stayed here since other hotels were way overpriced due to " high season".

Reserved two Non smoking rooms on hotels.com .  When we got to hotel owner said we booked smoking rooms and they had one non smoking and one smoking room left.  Took them and did blind draw on keys for rooms.

I got lucky and got non smoking room.  Clean room with great beds and pillows. Checked my res on line and confirmed I did book two non smoking rooms. Oh well hope my buddy' s room was not too bad.

Next day he called me at 9 am and said he had to get out of his room.  Told me it reeked and there was black mold in his bathroom as well as red fingerprints on walls.  WTF?

Gave the hotel four stars since my room was great.  His new nickname is princess since I think he may be a little high maintenance?

Tip--- get the non smoking room.

When I visit if I need a room I stay here. They are usually much cheaper than the competition, very clean rooms, and they give me two bottles of water a day. Family owned by people who care.

It would be really easy to just drive past this place--in a sleazy area of the historically sleazy "north trail" corridor of Sarasota. But I called around on the weekend and even moderate places wanted like $170 a night. I saw a couple good reviews and took a chance. I got:

A clean room for three nights for about $70 a night when taxes were all added up. The manager or owner and his family run a tight ship. They seem decent and organized and the place falls into line from them. I don' t think they would tolerate any BS.

I didn't notice much noise from fellow guests, perhaps the AC drowns this out.

Are the towels thin and decor out-dated? Yes. But I took got the smoke-free room, 204 if you must know, and it was clean with a decent bed.

This place would not be by first choice again but it's a great place in a pinch. And watch out for mai-tais at the Ba Hi Hut down the road.
