It is a good location they have pools and are right on the beach.  As for the actual hotel room it was worn down and showing age as is much of the hotel.  I am happy at a hampton inn for quality, value, etc.  My feet stuck to the floor in our kitchen.  In short it wasn't a horrible place but I wouldn't stay again.

If you care about wildlife conservation, specifically sea turtles, do not patronize this resort!!!   If it were possible, I would not give this resort even the single star.

Though it is against the local Sea Turtle ordinances, they leave furniture on the beach at night--i.e., tents, barbecues, tables and chairs--which present obstacles to the turtles.  In addition, the employees who drive the carts around the beach (to pick up chairs, etc.) are very reckless as they maneuver around any staked out turtle nests...and they drive the carts around long after sundown when they could be running over hatchlings, etc.  There have been times when debris has been thrown on the nests as well, and they drive so fast and so close to the nests, I have seen times when they came close to knocking down stakes.

Clearly, they have no regard for the turtles.  We should all remember that we SHARE our beaches with all the wildlife and we need to be much more respectful.  Since Lido Beach Resort relies on a beautiful beach to attract patrons, their cavalier attitude is not only appalling but shocking.

lido beach resort is very nice. two pools, one of which is for adults. rooms were a little slow being made up but they probably had to clean the rooms that were turning over first.
most of the customers were friendly like the staff.  the pool bar closes down at 10pm so that heleps keep the noise down.
i will visit again.

It's hard to beat this hotel's location. It's on the beach. Literally. Any more towards the water, and the lobby would be submerged in fish and seashells. Parking is limited but they have access to a next-door garage. The room is okay. Tight, feels more like a motel than a hotel at times, with sand everywhere. The room service is a nice touch though. Not lavish, not ornate, but it does the trick. Honestly though, what offsets this completely is the quick access to the beach. Hop outside and there's Lido Key. Beautiful white sand beach and relatively deserted. Kick back, enjoy the sunset, and relax for once! (Note: Siesta Key is close by, make sure to stop by there too!)

Rooms need updating.  Kitchenette disappointing.  Not a great value for what we paid.  $20 per day resort fee excessive given normal hotel ammenities.

While the location is lovely, the cancellation policy is not. Due to a family emergency, my visitors had to cancel, and did so 90 minutes after the 48 hrs. I was trying to help and offered to cancel for them. I spoke with 3 employees (working my way up the chain) and not only were they utterly condescending, they were absolutely inflexible. On top of that, they told me I would be automatically charged after the 48 hrs went in to effect and there was nothing they could do about it. I know this is a blatant lie! I live in this area, and will not recommend this hotel to anyone-i will offer my house before sending them there. They did however, offer me a "one time courtesy change" which meant my visitors had to decide within a day when they would be returning to the hotel and book their reservation within 24 hours. I tried to explain that this would be impossible-how could they plan their next vacation when a family emergency had halted this one?!

i visited the nearby siesta key every summer growing up and i never knew there were hotels on the beach in this area.
which is such a nice advantage over renting condos or timeshares where you dont have the option of letting someone else set up your beach chair or worry about the laundry or order a pina colada by the pool!!  hotel amenities are always important!

this hotel was really nice, there were some things that were a little outdated but for the most part it was great especially for the special rate we got 150/night.

daily happy hour specials by the pool, shuttle service to and from st armands circle, free beach chairs (but umbrellas are rented for a small fee) and a staff that is helpful and willing to serve. overall i really liked it and definitely plan on going back!!

We have been coming to Lido for the last 4 years and have had nothing but nice things to say. Fantastic service by the pool side, at the bar, and the restaurant. The rooms were clean and they were being updated.
During our last visit I have to say that the service, quality, and staff to clientele ratio has declined to the point that next year we probably will not come back here.
1. There were garbage everywhere by he poolside - cups and straws on the floor, pistachio shells strewn around, cans floating in the pond. Now I understand that this is caused by the guests that are staying at the hotel however one poolside staff looking after a packed place is not sufficient to keep up with picking up the garbage people leave around. While the poolside rules clearly state "no coolers," there were families with gigantic coolers taking up the entire side of the pool - clearly disregarding the rules and not being enforced by the staff.
2. Main pool was just grimy by 2 pm even my daughter who would never care about the cleanliness of a pool did not want to go in. In fairness there were a lot of people in the water, but again this speaks to the staff - clientele ratio.
3. We stayed in the north tower for the first time during our last visit. Maid service didn't come until after 4:00pm (which by the way I had to call to call the front desk to see if someone can clean our room), there were hair in the bath tub, and the soap in the box was clearly used and reused/recycled. I don't know if my room was an exception to other rooms but this was never my experience in the past at Lido.

I'm so bummed because this used to be my family's favorite escape every year. I guess we'll have to find another accommodation or rent a house.  I still give it a 3 star in the hopes of improvement in the future!

Great location. Very relaxing spot. Proximity to st Armand's circle is great. The beach and pool service is 4 stars. The bartenders at the tiki hut were top notch and very friendly. They work hard and take very good care of you.

The front desk on the other hand is like checking into a run down motel. Extremely rude and unprofessional. For what you pay to stay here you would think they could train the staff at the front desk to be like a 4 star hotel.

House keeping in north tower was terrible, hair all over the place. We complained and they still did not clean.  They need a manager in this place that audits their service.

If it were not for the guys at the tiki hut and the view, I would have given this place 2 stars. The hotel has huge potential, the attention to detail and customer service are a must and need improvement.

Great location on the beach and close to St. Armand's Circle.

But the hotel itself is very run down and tired.  The rooms are small, the bathroom fixtures are loose, the tubs are kind of dirty, the sinks don't drain etc.

If you're not going to spend a lot of time in the room, this place is fine, otherwise it can become a real downer.

I can not recommend the older half of the resort, the newer addition seemed very nice. Our room had a broken lamp. Who leaves a large broken floor lamp in a room, placed right by the front door where a guest can bump into it as they enter a dark room at night? Lido Beach Resort apparently. Those pranksters! Then brown toilet water from the unit above us leaked down through the ceiling and into our bathroom. When I spoke to the manager about this her response was, "Well, some things are out of our control." hmmmm, again what a great sense of humor these folks have.

The elevator in the older wing was described to us by one weary couple as "the world's slowest elevator" -- and they weren't kidding please set aside 20 to 30 minutes of your life and give it a ride. plus, budget an extra $20 bucks for your stay because that's what Lido will charge you for a bottle water and a small bag of microwave popcorn.

I think everyone who works at Lido knows that the old wing of the resort is in desperate need of repair but they are too busy charging their suckers, er, guests nearly two hundred dollars a night to stay in those rooms.

Not sure how anyone rated this 'resort' anything more than 2 stars. I am agreeing with those that say it is just like a motel. After complaining about the state of the room and asking to be reimbursed in order to go elsewhere, we were upgraded to a room in the 'newer' tower, which was better, but still NOT worth what we were charged. On top of that, when checking out, we were charged an additional $20/ night 'resort fee'. Do not book based off of photos online as they do not truly reflect current conditions of hotel. Would recommend exploring other options in the area.

Came back a year later, and love it all the more!  This time for a ladies / moms getaway weekend; we had 2 junior suites with sweeping views of the gulf, and couldn't ask for a more serene sight. Staff was welcoming, rooms were kept impeccably clean and the scent of coconut delicately finishes the touch of this little slice of paradise.

Perfect!! Hosted a wedding at the resort on 8/2/2014 and the Lido Beach resort made it absolutely perfect. From the check in to the food we had wonderful wedding and stay. Plenty of room at the pools. Rooms were clean and comfortable with great views from our patio. Staff was awesome from check in to the Tiki bar and all the restaurants. Big shout out to Sharon and the staff in the upstairs restaurant for hosting our wedding dinner. Food was fresh, hot and delicious. Keep doing what you are doing!! We will be coming back for many years!!

The building is very old and requires maintance, we did not like the place at all.
It was presented very nicely in the photographs and brochures therefore it was a dessapointment for us.
We do not recomend this resort, there are many places at a better rate and with much better quality premises.

The location is beautiful as is the stunning views of the Gulf. However, the decor is VERY dated, and they really should upgrade the rooms so it's not 1980s decor. The beach and pool are great, as well as the service at the tiki hut. Food was pretty good too, since i was in FL i went with the Shrimp Po' Boy. I was also pleased with how there was a "kids area" and "adult area" for the pools. It definitely makes your time more relaxing if you are sans children. Service at the front desk I'd say wasn't as friendly nor attentive compared to other hotels and resorts I've stayed at.

I love this resort!  Yes, the rooms could use a decor update, and to earn 5 stars they'd need an overall renovation BUT I can't complain about a 2 room suite directly on the beach with a beautiful view, good food, friendly service, shuttle to the Circle.  Great vacation spot!  This is not our first time here and certainly won't be the last.

My family of 3 stayed here for 3 days on our first trip to Florida.  It was recommended to us by a co-worker who had a winter home in the area.  When I looked up the resort online I had sticker shock, it was so expensive so I ended up booking thru a third party travel site and saved over 50% per night.  With that being said we went into it not knowing how many beds, or other room accommodations we were getting.  Had I known in advance that our suite had a FULL kitchen, including dishes, dishwasher, stove, and full size fridge I would have planned accordingly.  The meals at the resort were expensive, omelets were like $17, and there isn't a lot of other options nearby for breakfast so the budget conscious traveler would be wise to plan to prepare some meals in the room.

Although our room had a full kitchen it only had one bed so we had to get housekeeping to bring up a stowaway bed which made the room  a bit tight, but my daughter said it was comfortable.

The maid service seemed overly busy the days we were there and we constantly had to hunt them down to provide clean towels.  The first day our room wasn't cleaned until after 6pm.  Room service was slow, expensive and I would not recommend ordering the pizzas.  Although they sound good on the menu, they're small and not practically tasty and extremely overpriced.

The grounds of the resort were beautiful and we took full advantage of the beautiful weather spending as much time as possible outside on the grounds and on the private beach.  Not having to lug around chairs and beach supplies were an added bonus and worth every dime of the "resort fee".

On the negative the wifi service was horrible, and the service on their computers very slow, expect to be "unconnected" for most of your stay.

Overall our stay was very enjoyable.  Pictures do not do the outdoor space justice.  It has the most beautiful, well maintained grounds I've ever seen.
We have already made plans to stay again next year, and knowing about the full kitchen will surely make a trip to the grocery store (a bit of a drive) on our way down.

As for the review by Jude about Lido Beach Resort not caring about the native turtles we found that to be untrue.  Not only were the chairs put in storage every day around 6pm every morning there was staff patroling the beach.  I know this because I was engaged in conversation with a staff member one early morning during my shell excursion who told me he patrols the beach every morning looking for landlocked turtles.  We stayed for 3 days in early June 2012.

If you are considering staying at this resort  I would recommend not booking with them directly, as overall we saved close to $200/per night booking from a travel site (even months in advance).

This is a very decent hotel located right on the beach in Sarasota, FL.  Part of the property is obviously a little dated, but everything was perfectly clean and orderly.  The tower is the newer addition, but we stayed in the older 4-story building and had no issues.  The room was a good size, with a king bed, mini-fridge, microwave, Keurig coffemaker, safe, and bathroom with a shower, no tub.  Everything was spotless and housekeeping was prompt.  The resort fee covers two very large bottles of water, a bag of popcorn, and two Keurig servings each of regular coffee, decaf, and English breakfast tea (I will recommend that if using the Keurig, use the bottled water, not water from the tap, because the tap water tastes truly awful and you can taste it in the coffee and tea).  The resort fee also covers other things like poolside towels, etc.

The restaurant on the 8th floor of the tower was truly excellent--wonderful service and really fantastic food.  We were here for dinner on Friday and brunch on Sunday morning.  The brunch spread was not cheap (I think $35 per person) but it was an overwhelming amount of food--omelet station, carving station, waffle station, sausages and grits and biscuits and gravy and shrimp cocktails and all kinds of desserts--and a mimosa included for everyone.  Southern Living named this one of the top 5 Sunday brunches in the state of Florida for good reason.

The shuttle to St. Armand's Circle was very convenient, though truth be told the circle was not a bad walk from the resort, and you can do pretty much the whole thing along the beach if you'd like.  A good way to work off some of the inevitable weight you'll gain on vacation.

I'm not giving this hotel 5 stars for a few reasons.  First off, it's perfectly nice, but it's not what I would call luxurious or anything.  The pools and hot tubs and tiki bar and beach access close at 8 p.m. due to local laws.  Couldn't care less about the bar but it sucks not being able to go in the pool or on the beach at night.  The tiki bar was not my cup of tea--didn't have many liquor or beer options, and told me they couldn't get basic things like Guinness or amaretto--I later found out from the bar upstairs that they do, in fact, have access to these things, it's just that the tiki bartenders don't like completely stocking the bar and just claim the hotel doesn't carry certain things out of laziness.  They also REALLY overpoured in a bad way--if I want to taste straight liquor, I'll order a shot.  If I order a mixed drink, it's because I DON'T want it to taste like straight rum.  They also gave me a little bit of shit for asking them to not overpour, like, "What, can't handle your liquor?"  Um, I just don't want to be wasted by 6 p.m.

I also was not a fan of all the kids in the adult-only pool.  There was some young sports team there, lots of boys aged maybe 10-12, and they were obnoxious and loud and running all over the resort all day, inevitably ending with them running in from the beach and doing cannonballs into the adults-only pool and hot tubs.  This always happened right in front of a member of staff, who didn't say a word.

I would stay here again, but I wouldn't choose this hotel if I wanted a really luxurious vacation.

The Location of the resort is wonderful, right on the beach, and the staff, specifically Justin, were helpful, friendly and welcoming, so if our stay was based on those two things, I would have given more stars. Unfortunately, the room was not what we expected. Our room was over the pool with an ocean view, awesome, but awesome stops there. The room is antiquated and well worn. The bedding and furnishing was the same. I pulled the bedding out of the closet to make up the sofabed, and the blanket was horrible, worn, stained and had several holes. We called down to get another blanket, which they promptly brought and it was much nicer. But, that blanket in the closet should have been retired years ago! Bathroom and kitchen seems clean, just old. This hotel needs a remodel, until then, I don't think I would come back.

It's not a 5-star, luxurious hotel but it is nice enough for a beach getaway.  It's clean, the staff is friendly, the rooms are spacious, it's on the beach, the beach is private (just for those staying at the hotel), the food is pretty good, the prices are fair, and you're not too far from downtown by taxi (about $10)! There is also a shuttle that will take you to St Armands Circle where there are restaurants and shopping.  I would definitely go back and would recommend this for a family, couples or a low key getaway for a group of friends.

Well there is something to be said for scarcity value. the beaches in Sarasota aren't known for hotels, they are known for condominiums and houses. So that's how you find a situation of paying first class hotel rates for what is basically a motel on the beach. Sure, the Tower version of the building does have nice suites, but they're incredibly expensive if you book the rack rate online. The low rise Motel, which is like something out of a 1982 Holiday Inn commercial, has merely "very expensive" rates not "extraordinarily expensive" rates like the suites. Those motel rooms are in dire need of an update, as I kept expecting to turn on the TV for an episode of Bosom Buddies as I stood on the linoleum tile floor and tuned out the whir of the Motel 6 air conditioner. For what it costs just stay at the Ritz Carlton.

Well I figured I should give a more balanced view, don't get me wrong, the main building is still to be avoided at all costs but at the end of the day the location, the extremely friendly and helpful staff and the beautiful beach means this place is well worth visiting - if you can get the new wing of the hotel you will be delighted (5 stars for he new wing, 1 star for the old)

For the price they charge here it's not what it should be. The beach location is great, staff was good and service was acceptable. We had a " gulf view room" yea if I turned 90 degrees and strained my neck. I had a great view of the building to the south!
I know I'm on the beach, but there were ants on the counter and ugly bugs on the floor.
The rollaway had a dead fly!
So if you are hard up for a beach hotel and want to way over pay then stay here.

I was hesitant to book because I didn't know the area but very glad I did. The resort is in need of a remodel but it is very clean, nice staff, great shower with no curtain which is a plus. Beds are comfy and cold ac. Beautiful view of the gulf. What more can you ask for

Shuttle takes you to Armand's circle which is an added bonus. Jacqueline is a pleasure when you call the resort. Actually all of the staff are great.
Would come again looking forward to the remodel.

I'm a resident of Sarasota so I don't stay at the resort overnight, but I do frequently visit the 8th floor for their perpetual Happy Hour. I say perpetual because it runs everyday from 6-8pm. Half price drinks with a beautiful view of the sunset is hard to beat from the 8th floor. The bartenders know our names and our usual drinks too! My girlfriend and I are regulars and will continue to watch the beautiful sunsets from the 8th floor bar.

Didn't stay at the hotel but came for the brunch on the 8th floor. Which was absolutely beautiful. Even though it was a buffet the food was still nice and fresh. Great atmosphere - plan on staying for quite a while and for the meal to be an entire event.

I stayed at this resort during a business trip. This resort was a perfect spot for our business meetings and events. I was pleasantly surprised at what a beautiful location this is, so close to the beach, beautiful view of the ocean/Gulf, and great breakfast spot.

I was surprised that the rooms were accessible from the outside like a motel, but once I got inside I was pleasantly surprised. A half kitchen, great space, and a wonderful bathroom. If I was on vacation for pleasure I would be happy with this location and I would have had a lot more fun! I know some of my coworkers stayed in the newer tower, and had nothing bad to say about their rooms. I'm sure they were adequate.

The meeting rooms were wonderful and the crew that supplied us lunch and dinner were absolutely amazing! I really enjoyed the bar at night after our meeting times. The bartender's were nice and really accommodating. I can't really complain about this place and would like to come back sometime.

The other great thing about this resort is the location! It is right on the beach, a wonderful view, and it is minutes away from some great restaurants in the little square and the specialty boutiques. Great resort.

Came for the offshore racing, so it was really busy and really expensive. The rooms are dated and overall crappy. Staying here 2 days made my back hurt, and I sleep on hotel bed about 35% of my life, hence that's saying something. The bar service is horrible, it takes forever to get drinks all the time. Overall this was a good location, nice beach, but horrible service.

Oh yeah they run out of towels, chairs, etc every day. Get extra everything since they will likely not have anything later in the day or even the next day. It's always a 15 minute wait, but even 4 hours later it's a 15 minute wait.

Excellent pool and bar, the pool behind the main bldg is an adult only area and has more comfortable poolside chairs. Be sure to arrive by 10-11. They have a shuttle that goes from the resort to the circle so don't worry about driving after you arrive. The shuttle driver, Efram I think, was always excited to get to take someone in the shuttle. It's a Mercedes Benz bus, pretty cool. Our server at the beach area was Tiffanie and at the pool it was Dan, both gave  GREAT service.

The adult area also has 3 hot tubs. Both swimming pools are heated and a few chairs have umbrellas. They serve food and drinks. The pool par closes at 8pm and has happy hour from 5-8, half off drinks and appetizers. Don't miss the sunset!

We ate at the restaurant on the 8th floor on Thursday night and it was perfect for view and food. I believe they also honor happy hour at that bar but I'd double check. You're going to love it! The shuttle will take you pretty much anywhere you need to go, but you won't want to leave.
