I have stayed at this hotel many times for business but my last stay was horrible and after I contacted the front desk who did nothing and wrote priority club a letter and the hotel management did nothing.  I checked in and was upgraded to a "cabana" suite out by the pool. About 1 hour after being in my room I saw a large roach scamper across the tile hallway and up the wall.  I managed to capture amd kill it and put it in a paper cup. I called the front desk and asked for a manager but he sent the maintenance man on staff. He was a very nice man, who brought some home use bug spray , mentioning that this room was due for the exterminators. I asked if I could move rooms and the manager at the desk was like no we don't have a room. I was angry because I was booked for a room in the tower, not the cabana.  I then agreed to stay in this room unless I see another bug. I ordered pizza and was waiting for delivery and I found 5 more roaches and a large spider that was all killed during the bug spray. I then called the front desk and said inhad to move to another room or hotel.  Magically they found me a room in the tower and I ,over. My pizza dinner was ruined and I was moving at almost 10 pm. The from desk offered me another free drink coupon and I asked if I could use it for a bottlenof soda or water in the lobby. The front desk said no , only for a drink at the bar( wine or beer) my reply was I do not drink.. They said then you wont be using these? Like they wanted to take them back. They didn't offer to send me dinner from room service after my pizza was cold, amd didn't care that I was 1000% unsatisfied!! I don't reccoment this hotel to anyone !!

The Crowne Plaza is a nice hotel and my experience is not the norm. That being said, my stay was a nightmare. Unfortunately, there was a front pushing through Florida the night I was staying at the hotel, bringing with it 35+ MPH winds. Worse, there was a four-story palm tree just outside my window. The palm fronds whipped at the window and the cacophony of sound kept my wife an I up the entire night. We got no sleep whatsoever and I was in town for a half marathon the next morning. As the hours ticked by and my mental health deteriorated, I had thoughts of breaking into a Home Depot and going chainsaw crazy on the 40-foot noisemaker. If you are going to stay at the Crowne Plaza and the desk attendant offers you room 423, remember this review and demand another room or recommend a good tree trimming service.

Pretty hotel, wonderful buffet style breakfast. Small workout room, did not see any free weights. Super comfortable bed. Too rainy to check out the pool but it is nice and big.

Update 5/18/2011:

Unfortunately the CP got knocked down a bit this stay, and I also sent an email to IC's customer service with no response yet.
No hot water to be found :(  A cold 4am shower isn't much fun.  Speaking of the shower - the shower door wouldn't stay closed and there was mold in the shower.

As always though, the staff is very friendly and very helpful, they let me print my boarding pass on the printer behind the desk since the business center printer was malfunctioning.  Airport shuttle is always a nice setup.

Disappointing to knock them down from a 5 to a 3, but this was definitely an 'average' stay and not an exceptional stay.

I hosted a corporate meeting for 40 people this past week and it went very well.

Debra, Jaci and William took such good care of my group and constantly checked back throughout to ensure everything was in order. I had numerous changes right up to the day of the event and the reacted great and could not have been more helpful.

Check in was seamless for every one and they did a great job with shuttle service to and from the hotel.

The buffet breakfast was above the standard hotel fare and was kept well stocked each day.

The meeting room was stocked and well maintained.

The buffet catered lunch was well worth the money and received compliments from the entire group.

They have a great bar off the lobby that was a perfect spot for after meeting drinks.

I had a cabana suite that was clean and in great shape. I was the size of a one bedroom apartment with a separate living room.

Very nice pool area and was the perfect place for a couple of adult beverages.

All of the staff in this Hotel had a smile and greeted you at every opportunity.

I HIGHLY recommend the Crowne Plaza Westshore for your next meeting.

As the Duke of Crowne Plaza, I urge my loyal subjects to return to the homeland and share in the bounty!  The staff of my illustrious hotel will care for your every need, and be sure your room is well cleaned and arranged for your stay.  Each day my minions will prepare you a well stocked buffet for breakfast, and bring you juice and coffee to go with.  Be assured that if the Duchy's HD television is not providing you excellent reception, they will correct it posthaste

Have you ever seen a hotel get everything right except for a fountain?

The Crown Plaza Westshore does a great job of providing a lovely surrounding for all of your whatever-the-hell needs. I was there around two weeks and saw a great variety of people leave the front doors very pleased.

We saw some insurance people and some pyramid scheme people as well as some pilot people; all co-mingling around the one draw back of this lovely hotel, the fountain in the courtyard that makes an awful noise from about 9 am to about 10 pm.

Other than this terrible study on broken water mains the stay here was quite lovely. The conference rooms were always stocked with water and some sort of un-nameable mint thing that was delicious. The pool was great for a business hotel. And who can forget Amanda...

I stayed here for a week.  The 1st night I was there I woke up about 2 AM with and jumped out of bed because something was crawling up my leg.  I tried to kill this BIG bug and it left black fluid on the sheets and did not wish to die.  So I trapped it.  What I found was a cockroach, or as the front desk insisted calling it, a palmetto bug.  When I called and told them about, they accused me of bringing it into the room with me, and at 1st refused to give me another room.  They argued with me that this never happens in their hotel and I shouldn't worry about it, its really no big deal.  They eventually gave me a different room after much debate and did nothing else about it.  I looked closely at the bedding after that phone call and found slight black stains on all the pillow cases and sheets.  Looked to me like they had that problem all the time.  After I left I went to the ihg web site and tried to write a review about it.  They WOULD NOT post it, even after I complained via phone and email several times.  I no longer stay at ANY of the ihg groups locations and I will NEVER go back to this place.

Absolutely delightful!  Five star all the way.  For those of you who don't know Crowne Plaza is a high end Holiday Inn.  Because my fiancee travels for work we get to stay in Holiday Inn's for free with his points.  This was definitely the nicest one I've been in.

We stayed here the night before our cruise and also had it booked for the day we got back to the port.  The fist night they upgraded us to a "Cabana Suite" without us even asking.  This suite would have been the prefect condo for us, just add a kitchen.  The room was spotless, updated and very modern.  Huge flat screen and leather couches in the front room.  Nice big bathroom with a huge shower and great water pressure and shower head.  King sized bed that was dangerously comfortable and a flat screen in the bedroom.  Walk out the door to a beautiful pool, palm trees and little cabanas.  So so cool.

The second day we stayed we weren't upgraded but the room was still very nice.  Same bathroom, same comfy bed, lavender spray and sleep mask on the pillow - the whole nine yards.

The front desk employees were extremely friendly and helpful and when we checked out (about 10am) she called to one of the employees to drive us to the airport.

I'd definitely stay here again and I know we will when we cruise out of Tampa again!

Check out the pictures I added!  :)

The rooms are a little on the small side, but very clean. The bathroom looked like it's been remodeled, and instead of a bathtub there's a standing shower. The bed was very comfy and everything worked in the room. However, one thing that I didn't like was the water pressure, it was too low.

After going to bed, we were awakened at 3:30am with a very loud alarm saying to evacuate immediately due to an emergency. After standing in the hotel lobby for about half an hour, we come to find out that some drunk idiots decided to pull the fire alarm so it set off the whole hotel. UGH. Of course this had nothing to do with the hotel so I don't blame them. But, when it was cleared and we were trying to go back up, there was no way to get upstairs! The stairs we took to go down can only be opened from the inside. So we had to wait until the elevators were functioning to return to our room. I thought that this was a ridiculous and stupid set up of the hotel.

But overall, the hotel is decent. It's not anything spectacular, but if you're looking for an affordable hotel that's in a great location, I'd recommend staying here.

I love the clean, white minimalist feel of the rooms. Very cool. The light sensors caught me off guard, but those you can control.

There is a grab and go eating area in the front that's nice that serves Starbucks coffee, however it is not a Starbucks.

Room service was great and on time, nothing out of the ordinary. The Mezzo restaurant was just ok and slow. If you're in a hurry, go someplace else.

Great spot that I would love to visit again if in the area.

Came here for a corporate event and I can say they did a good job.  They kept the conference rooms stacked with soda, water and goodies.  Breakfast and lunch buffets were decent.

The hotel itself is an older hotel that was remodeled.  The rooms are big, modern and clean, but in a way you can still see it was remodeled.  Kinda retro.  Beds were decent, nice TV, good sized shower.

For a quick stay, good service, decent food, pool, lounge and good location.

Not bad, but also not perfect. I stayed here for five days, on business, in a cabana suite. The room was incredibly spacious, but very stupidly set up. There were so many light switches in the room! Some did turn stuff on and others did nothing. A switch halfway down the long hallway turned on the bathroom light? Really. The cabana suites are all located on an outside "annex" near the pool. I wasn't really fond of this. It had a motel feeling to it, and it lacked privacy you normally get from an enclosed room.

A few problems with service - told there was only a $10 deduction fr my debit card for incidentals, but it was $40. Asked them to mail something for me, assured it would, never arrived at the destination. I did, however really enjoy the free van to take us around town. Timmy and Doug were very cool, and personable.

Housekeeping was invited in once during the five days and they did a very slack job. Didn't vacuum, not changing of the sheets. Basically appeared that they made the bed, gave a new towel, and left.

The bar/restaurant had some service issues as well. One night order hummus, never came. Another asked to see a menu and never saw the bartender again. The $5 tapas deal wasn't a bad deal, but you get what you pay for. Drinks in the bar are overly expensive.

Overall, not a bad spot to lay my head but not the best. Parking was always a pain in the ass as well. Park in the back if your room is back there.

I absolutely love this hotel. I was upgraded to a cabana suite. It was spacious & clean. The service was exceptional for both the evening & morning shifts. The Mojito restaurant had latino night the night we stayed at the hotel. Fun, fun, fun...margaritas, food & dancing. I would have given 5 stars but I had only one issue with the ouside noise from the airplanes. The hotel is located near the airport so that was expected. From what I understand they have a "quiet zone." I can't wait to visit Tampa again. I will book my stay here & pack my stilletos. They do have a free airport shuttle.

Price was reasonable, location is close to the airport but not so noisy that you can't sleep, etc. Very close to the mall that has a few options for eating (Seasons 52, etc.) and they have both a free shuttle 24x7 to the airport and then a shuttle that will take you to close places (mile or 2) that you can pre-arrange during the day (in case it is too hot to get to the other side of the mall).

People were pretty nice, but 2 things to keep in mind. No vending machines in the hotel (upstairs or down) so you can only get a soda if you are hungry at night. They have a little stand right next to the front desk, but more beverages with a couple small food items.

The mini Starbucks doesnt have any food either, so no donut or bagel that you can grab in the morning for instance. They do have a restaurant on site for dinner and a place for breakfast. Didn't try either of those, but surprised to go to a place where you couldn't get a little snack at some point in the day.

Overall a nice place, room was comfortable, decent TV selection, wired and wireless internet for free in some rooms, etc.

Probably not the best place for a family stop, but for a business travel, pretty good.

This is a nicely renovated hotel. The rooms are nice very with modern layout. My only issue with my recent stay is very minor but yet reflects something more significant. Attention to detail is severely lacking at this hotel.  Case in point: wonderful in room coffee machines but the disposable cups that go with the coffee machines also come with a lid on the cup however the lid does not fit the cup it's about three sizes too big.
The restaurant in the lobby downstairs for breakfast is a zoo but not a very nice zoo. Service is hard to come by at peak hours.  When I ask for cream for my coffee the server turned around picked up a slightly used cream dispenser from the neighboring table (which had not been cleared off from the previous guest)  and put it on my table and walked away.
When my final bill came I was surprised to see that my complimentary drink was not included in the bill. However $.91  of tax for that drink was on the bill. I'm not sure how you text something that is complementary.

The meeting space is good. Overall, the hotel is quite nice, but it's these little issues that can dampen an otherwise good stay.

Booked this place for four nights and five days while visiting for a conference. I frequently stay at the Crowne Plaza in Concord, CA as it is one of my favorites. I expected things to be the same at the one in here in Tampa. The staff was very kind and always helpful and the grounds the hotel sits on are absolutely beautiful. The pool area is modern, relaxing and very clean. The rooms, however, were very small and walls very thin. I could hear my neighbors cell phone vibrate with the TV on and on the other side of the wall. The shower leaked a ton of water whenever it was running, the ironing board was broken along with the iron itself and to top it off, the place was packed so instead of getting a king bed like originally requested a week in advance and what I got was two small twin beds and one towel.

In general, I thought this hotel could have been, should have been, much more. The room was spacious and pretty nice in that "sparse, modern" kind of way, but the beds felt as if they'd been slept on a few nights too many. They had a little of the indentation thing going on, which drives me nuts. They were among the poorer hotel beds I've slept on in a while.

Now, the shower stall was excellent. Luxurious, even. That was some damn fine showering, I must say. I wish I had a shower anywhere near that at home, though if I did I'd probably never leave it.

I read a bunch of complaints about parking, but it wasn't an issue. Beyond the saggy beds, the biggest issue here was an angry toilet that made a bunch of noise. Not cool.

There's a breakfast buffet downstairs, but apparently you have to pay extra for it. If you go down there and start helping yourself, you know, as per usual at almost every other comparable hotel, you'll get scolded. No bagels for you! That's lame. Not to mention, the buffet didn't even look like all that. I've seen better complimentary buffets at other hotels in this class.

In a nutshell, better beds, a silent toilet, and complimentary breakfast would make this a five star Tampa lodging option.

How would you like to stay in a room with electrical plates falling off the sockets, a lamp with an electrical plug showing exposed wires, and an extension cord laying on the floor next to your bed?  Come stay here and get all that andore in an outdated and poorly maintained hotel with poorly trained customer service staff ("a half a glass of ice isn't enough?") ... yes, the front desk staffer really said that to me.

Crowne Plaza Tampa is not a bad choice.  The room is spacious enough, clean, has a nice flooring.  They have a big shower stall.  The water system can be a bit noisy tho.  You gotta be careful with the door.  It is cheaply made and shuts really loud and could wake up the whole neighbor, if you don't try to close the door very slowly all the way.  There is no mini fridge and that was a bit of disappointment.  This place is not gonna wow you but if you are looking for a clean hotel around $100-140, then this place will do just fine.

There are a lot of good reviews already so I'll go to the point.
Room: Clean big and well decorated.
Bed: Good but not great.
Noise: Pretty quite despite having a couple of conventions going on.
Room Service: Really good burger, fires and key lime pie. Worth the $23.00
Customer Service: Great
Appearance: Fair to good. The place just looks tired.
Price: A little to high but not so much that a person would consider going to another hotel.
Overall: A-OK

Welcome to "East Berlin."  If you wake up before the sun comes-up, you should be fine.  However, since there are no curtains to darken the room (only a "sun shade"), and the fact that the rooms are painted a "slate/blue/grey," the feng-shui vibe of this place is unsettling, in spite of it's roominess and cleanliness.  It helps to pretend you work for an organization named "Spectre" and are designing a secret "laser" to put on a sharks head.  Maybe even have an invisible son named "Scotty." I dunno...

The breakfast bar/happy hour services down stairs seems like a "nickel & dime trap," although the personnel are extremely helpful and courteous.

The plus?  The bathrooms in the room.  The commodes are higher than normal, you won't blow a rib reaching for the TP roll mounted one inch above the floor, and the shower is one of the BEST I have ever used at a hotel!  Towels are soft and all of absorbent awesomeness.  If your toiletries consist of a small bar of soap, a toothbrush and a comb, you might have counter space in the sink are to place all of them down at once (it's a little crowded).  Move that coffee machine under the sink ladies.

Speaking of coffee, the "breakfast bar" had to scramble to produce a cup of coffee at 6am.  I had to evaluate my proactivity (?).  It was a good cup though.

Parking was not an issue - easy access all hours of the day (no added cost).

Summary:  In town for business with the intent of using a hotel for sleeping from 11pm to 5am?  Don't mind people being able to see you in your room through the "sun shade" at night?  This might be the place for you.

I don't think I've stayed in a Crowne Plaza before so I was pleasantly surprised. My recent stays have been ok but not great at the other hotels. I'm not saying that this was GREAT but, for the $135, it was pretty darn nice.
The staff were all accommodating, there is free wifi throughout the hotel and the offer a free shuttle to the airport.
My room was pretty spacious and the pool looks pretty nice (but of course I didnt have any free time to go in).
I don't know when I'll be back in Tampa but I'd definitely stay here again.
