I made one night's reservation through Orbitz and the other through the Holiday Inn website. Neither site lets you know there's renovations happening and what to expect. It wasn't until we arrived that we saw a sign for the renovations apologizing for the inconvenience. During our first night, they didn't start drilling until 1 in the afternoon so it wasn't a big deal. We had to move rooms though because they were renovating that floor so that was annoying but since we had added on the second night after we got here, it was understandable. The whole reason for adding on a night was so that I could finally catch up on some sleep for the drive home. Too bad that didn't happen since they started drilling at 9 in the morning the next day. When I called the front desk I was told they would be drilling from 9-5 that day and they were sorry no one informed us. And no, no one informed us. Had they done so, I wouldn't have paid $100 to stay another night. It's absolutely ridiculous that I'm paying a hotel to sleep there and they start drilling at 9 in the morning. It's totally unacceptable, and I can't believe they are still charging people a full night's price and not letting them know until they arrive. If you can't just shut down and do renovations, you shouldn't charge the full price, you should let people know ahead of time what to expect, and you could at least wait until 11 or 12 before drilling so that people could maybe finish their night of sleep. This was our favorite hotel in Tampa (prior to it becoming a Holiday Inn), but I doubt we will ever stay here again.

Avoid during remodel. Hotel is undergoing restoration on the ninth floor. DO NOT accept a room on floors 8 thru 10. You will have noise until 5 or 6 pm. Other than that, the hotel and staff are accommodating, and the location is not terrible...unless you are thinking beach (that's a long way off).

Came to Tampa originally planning on staying at the Hilton just up the road, however when we arrived, they were filled to capacity. We called nine or 10 different hotels in the area, only to find everything filled. Not sure what to do, we doubled back and pulled into the Holiday Inn that we had passed just a quarter of a mile back. Walking in, I figured even if they did have a room, the price would be through the roof since obviously they would be the only place around available, and they would know they had us over a barrel. That was not the case. The price for our room was only $10 more expensive than what we had been quoted over the phone for the Hilton. The room, however, was way nicer. Front desk was very friendly and helpful, and sent someone to our room to bring us a crib for our young baby. When the bellhop (is that what they're called?) arrived with the crib, he was nice enough to take away the luggage cart which I was just about to bring back down. Beds were extremely comfortable. The view, while not necessarily all that important as it was night, and we were checking out early in the morning, still ended up being very nice. Also, there were free M&Ms in the lobby. Also, check out was at noon however right as we were about to leave, the baby decided that she needed to be fed right then and there. As I went downstairs to get the luggage cart, I informed the front desk that we might be a few minutes past check out due to having to feed the baby, and the two girls at the front desk assured me that it would be no problem, and told me to take our time. We ended up checking out about half an hour late, and there wasn't even a flinch on their part.

I am only giving this hotel 3 stars. One for the good location as it is in the Westshore district. The other for the M&M dispenser in the lobby. The third for the free wifi.

Okay...I actually prefer to stay at the other hotels in the area, but had to compromise as there was some convention or something in town. Anyway...so I'm in this older hotel and when I check into my room, it has some sort of odor. It wasn't musty like smokey or anything, but I could tell it was recently painted. When I went to check out the bathroom, I noticed that the new brown paint from the door must have rubbed off on the white shower curtain. I guess no one had a chance to make a note about how bad the door now looks and to replace the shower curtain. After walking through the hallway and actually seeing other shoddy work, I thought to myself, "Wow! A contractor really got over on this hotel." I'm not trying to be rude or mean, but it was pretty disappointing.  No amount of M&Ms can make up for that.

Updated lobby and hallways have brightened things up a bit though I'm not sure it really needed it.

Same good food downstairs. Beware, breakfast buffet ends and 0930.

Hopefully the branding stays put for awhile. Solid choice for an airport hotel.

The good: Nice staff, free M&Ms at the front desk, decent gym, good outdoor pool area, and it's close to a lot of stores/restaurants.

The not-so-good: Rooms weren't clean, awkward layout (you have to go outside to get to the fitness center...), thin walls.

Just another hotel...

Great smiling attitudes as soon as I walked in. Very welcoming!   The hallways were a tad cold but if that's the worst of it I'll take it!  Rooms very clean spacious & most importantly quiet.  Free wifi easily accessible and room service was fast & courteous!  I would highly recommend this hotel if you are in the area.
